- 0:00Speaker 1: This is a cool move by mom. Yeah, I don't
- 0:03Speaker 1: have any chill, Like, Hey, everybody, Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark,
- 0:24Speaker 1: a Hallmark review podcast. I'm Megan, I'm Wendy, and today
- 0:28Speaker 1: we are recapping The Way Home, episode three. I don't
- 0:32Speaker 1: want to miss a thing. If you'd like to connect
- 0:36Speaker 1: with us outside of the podcast, you can follow us
- 0:38Speaker 1: on Instagram. We are both at Girls Gone Hallmark and
- 0:42Speaker 1: at Megan and Wendy. You can also jump into our
- 0:45Speaker 1: Facebook group Girls Gone Hallmark. Come talk about this show
- 0:51Speaker 1: or any of the Hallmark movies or anything adjacent. Really,
- 0:55Speaker 1: a couple quick things to say about The Way Home
- 0:56Speaker 1: before we jump into our recap. Yeah, I'll starts three
- 1:01Speaker 1: this week. The episode where we're reviewing it pulled in
- 1:04Speaker 1: one point four million live viewers, so they're staying pretty
- 1:07Speaker 1: steady with their views there hasn't really dropped off, which
- 1:11Speaker 1: is great. Yes, I'm very happy to see that. I've
- 1:14Speaker 1: seen a lot of good hype from the community. I
- 1:18Speaker 1: would say around the show. I think it's being well received.
- 1:22Speaker 1: I really like it, so I hope others are enjoying
- 1:25Speaker 1: it too, because I want to see it keep going
- 1:28Speaker 1: me too. I hear we have some behind the scenes
- 1:32Speaker 1: news for episode three. We have a new director in
- 1:36Speaker 1: episode three and it is Namisha mu Kerjee. So far,
- 1:40Speaker 1: she is credited with two episodes, so I think we're
- 1:43Speaker 1: going to get episode three and four director, right, And
- 1:47Speaker 1: she's an award winning director, writer, and producer, and I'm
- 1:52Speaker 1: just excited to have like a female behind the camera.
- 1:56Speaker 1: Actually I don't even know show like this. Yeah, yeah,
- 2:01Speaker 1: but side note, I don't know who directed the first
- 2:04Speaker 1: two Grant Harvey. Oh okay, so it was a dude. Yeah,
- 2:08Speaker 1: And Grant Harvey is more of a TV series director
- 2:10Speaker 1: than a movie director for what it's worth. So looking
- 2:13Speaker 1: at his directing credit, it's a lot of TV series,
- 2:17Speaker 1: which of course is what we're talking about. But he's
- 2:19Speaker 1: I would say, he's not deep in the Hallmark universe.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Was my point there, right, And while Nimisha isn't either.
- 2:25Speaker 1: She is known for her documentaries. However she's done. She's
- 2:31Speaker 1: done shows like Big Shot on Disney, plus a show
- 2:35Speaker 1: that I love of Virgin River, a couple episodes of that,
- 2:39Speaker 1: an episode of a show called The Imperfects. She is
- 2:43Speaker 1: from Canada, so I believe a lot of these the
- 2:47Speaker 1: stuffs she the work she does is Canadian. Yeah, well,
- 2:51Speaker 1: let's drop into our recap of the Way Home episode three.
- 2:54Speaker 1: I don't want to miss a thing. Are you ready
- 2:56Speaker 1: for a synopsis? I am Alice falls in love with
- 2:59Speaker 1: the past and has her first kiss. Kat starts a
- 3:03Speaker 1: job with the local newspaper, and Dell deals with bittersweet
- 3:06Speaker 1: memories attached to Colton's boat. Alice falls in love with
- 3:10Speaker 1: the past. I love that line, do you I do?
- 3:13Speaker 1: I think it's great with what we know happens in
- 3:16Speaker 1: this episode, yes, double meaning, mm hmm. All right. This
- 3:20Speaker 1: episode opens, we have Dell cooking breakfast and Kat comes
- 3:24Speaker 1: in and Dell's gonna Dell. She tells Kat to look
- 3:27Speaker 1: for a job. Kat wants to keep writing. Dell tells
- 3:30Speaker 1: her she needs to prove that she can make money
- 3:32Speaker 1: as a writer. Like that little bit of softening we
- 3:35Speaker 1: got at the end of episode two, it's gone. She's
- 3:38Speaker 1: back to being hard ass Dell. Get your butt to work, Kat. Yeah.
- 3:43Speaker 1: I think by the third episode here, I'm a little
- 3:45Speaker 1: bit tired of this conversation. Like, Kat, it's time to
- 3:49Speaker 1: do something now, or Dell, you need to leave it alone.
- 3:52Speaker 1: But honestly, Kat really needs to do something. You feel
- 3:54Speaker 1: like Dell is right. I do, and I know that's
- 3:58Speaker 1: different from how you feel. Well, I don't feel like
- 4:01Speaker 1: she's wrong. But again, we're three at the timeline. Is
- 4:05Speaker 1: there maybe three days in yeah, before it takes a
- 4:09Speaker 1: minute to find a new job. I think you're You're
- 4:12Speaker 1: soft and sweet. You're gonna be that mom that lets
- 4:14Speaker 1: your adult children live at at your house forever. I think, perhaps, yes,
- 4:19Speaker 1: I am a little I'm a little bit of a softie.
- 4:23Speaker 1: I haven't lived at home since I was seventeen years old.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Alice centers and she's full of sunshine, and she puts
- 4:28Speaker 1: mint in cat's tea. She's been up early working on
- 4:31Speaker 1: the farm apparently, and she says she's going to quote
- 4:35Speaker 1: head out to hang out with Spencer and Zoe dun Dung.
- 4:39Speaker 1: And I don't know about you, but I was like, oh,
- 4:40Speaker 1: she's got friends. I'm so naive you are. I'm thinking
- 4:45Speaker 1: teenager's gonna lie it was. This was kind of funny
- 4:48Speaker 1: because as a mom to a fifteen year old, I
- 4:52Speaker 1: would my little radar would be up if she came
- 4:56Speaker 1: in and was chipper as Alice was. Something is going
- 4:59Speaker 1: on totally well, you know, Alice says, oh, in time,
- 5:04Speaker 1: I found my place again once again. It's been three days.
- 5:07Speaker 1: So while even though we could make an argument for
- 5:09Speaker 1: Cat getting to I do think it is still early
- 5:12Speaker 1: days for Alice to have found her place among a
- 5:15Speaker 1: new group of peers. So I thought that was funny.
- 5:18Speaker 1: But like you, Cat's radar is peaked and she asks
- 5:22Speaker 1: Belle are there drugs here now? Which I thought it
- 5:25Speaker 1: was so funny, and Belle tells her to chill. Yeah, see,
- 5:30Speaker 1: And this makes me wonder, like Delle being so kind
- 5:35Speaker 1: of chill, you know, considering that she lost a child
- 5:40Speaker 1: or a child who went missing, and she's just so
- 5:44Speaker 1: very like, oh, it's fine, Alice is gonna be fine.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Is very sus to me agree, So I'm curious to
- 5:52Speaker 1: see how this is gonna play out. This mother daughter
- 5:56Speaker 1: moment is interrupted by someone arriving at the farm. We
- 5:58Speaker 1: hear voices outside, and Dell and Kat go outside to investigate.
- 6:03Speaker 1: So we have two strangers essentially, and they're like, hey,
- 6:07Speaker 1: we heard about this boat might be for sale, and
- 6:09Speaker 1: we're interested, And then of course we get a flashback scene.
- 6:13Speaker 1: Dell is remembering when Colton brings the boat home and
- 6:16Speaker 1: he's like, look at Delli look at this great boat.
- 6:19Speaker 1: He's like so hyped for it, and she's pretty stunned
- 6:24Speaker 1: that somebody wants to take the boat from her. I
- 6:26Speaker 1: first want to say high five to the editing team
- 6:28Speaker 1: in this episode. There are so many great flashbacks interwoven
- 6:31Speaker 1: with these scenes, I think, on a greater volume than
- 6:35Speaker 1: we've seen in the past episodes, and it just lends
- 6:38Speaker 1: so much more information. The pacing in this episode is great.
- 6:42Speaker 1: But Dell's reaction surprised me. Not that she was upset,
- 6:47Speaker 1: but she agreed. I think it's time to let her go. Yeah.
- 6:49Speaker 1: I was a little surprised too, but then again, not
- 6:53Speaker 1: because why did she be holding onto this boat for
- 6:55Speaker 1: so long when she has gotten rid of mostly everything else,
- 7:01Speaker 1: and less because it's because it's Colton, But I mean
- 7:06Speaker 1: she did get rid of his stuff too, so or
- 7:09Speaker 1: that it's easier to throw away a box full of
- 7:11Speaker 1: items and much harder to ditch a giant boat in
- 7:14Speaker 1: a dumpster. Yes, and to your note about the editing
- 7:18Speaker 1: and how great they like weave in these like memories
- 7:21Speaker 1: to give us like context and everything. Very hard to
- 7:24Speaker 1: do when you're writing notes for a great on a podcast.
- 7:28Speaker 1: I know nineteen eighty nine, present day, nineteen ninety nine.
- 7:30Speaker 1: Percent day. Well, this is a flashback, but we're not
- 7:32Speaker 1: actually in ninety nine. Okay, okay, okay, yeah, oh my goodness, gracious,
- 7:36Speaker 1: but it's it's done very well. It is. It's an
- 7:39Speaker 1: enjoyable watch. Yes, Then we get our opening title. No,
- 7:43Speaker 1: no opening music, nothing, just the Way Home. Nope. And
- 7:47Speaker 1: Alice the next thing. Alice is in the pond. We
- 7:49Speaker 1: are in nineteen ninety nine, and she comes across the
- 7:52Speaker 1: backpack that Elliott has hidden for her that has dry clothes,
- 7:57Speaker 1: which then solves the problem of her always being wet
- 8:00Speaker 1: when she arrives to Kat's house. Right. Yeah, I wondered
- 8:03Speaker 1: had they had a discussion about that, because you went
- 8:05Speaker 1: right to it, And I originally thought, oh, good job,
- 8:08Speaker 1: you stashed clothes. And then we find out via a
- 8:11Speaker 1: note that it's Elliott's doing right exactly, and he picked
- 8:15Speaker 1: out some terrible clothes for her. Actually, I didn't think
- 8:18Speaker 1: it was that bad. It looked like like a moomoo,
- 8:22Speaker 1: I don't know, a prairie dress, but something was wearing
- 8:25Speaker 1: twenty three. I mean, she had like cute Doc Martin's
- 8:29Speaker 1: on with it, and like it worked to me, but
- 8:33Speaker 1: Cat was horrified when she saw it. Kat was like,
- 8:35Speaker 1: what are you wearing? Kat was horrified. So as Alice
- 8:39Speaker 1: walks away from the woods, we hear there she goes
- 8:42Speaker 1: by sixpence and then the Rich are playing, and I'm
- 8:45Speaker 1: gonna call this our first notice in the nineties moment.
- 8:47Speaker 1: It is background music, but yes, let me I did
- 8:50Speaker 1: a little deep dive on this song. First of all,
- 8:53Speaker 1: it originally came out in nineteen eighty nine by a
- 8:55Speaker 1: band called The Laws. They're like an English band. It
- 8:59Speaker 1: never really charged here in the States. And then Sixpence
- 9:01Speaker 1: None the Richer re released it in nineteen ninety nine
- 9:04Speaker 1: for a movie called snow Day. But for me, this
- 9:08Speaker 1: song how many times have I watched Gilmore Girls. It
- 9:12Speaker 1: is in the first episode of Gilmore Girls, which also
- 9:15Speaker 1: came out in to that two thousand, Okay, so it
- 9:21Speaker 1: was a hit prior to that. Anyway, This is where
- 9:25Speaker 1: I see like a parallel of like two shows. For me,
- 9:30Speaker 1: Gilmore Girls always had excellent music in it, and now
- 9:33Speaker 1: we're seeing this show, which I feel so far has
- 9:36Speaker 1: also had really good music in it. So there are
- 9:39Speaker 1: these like little similarities that I really am enjoying. I agree.
- 9:46Speaker 1: I agree. They're like almost like you know, Gilmore Girls
- 9:49Speaker 1: is kind of the classic mother daughter drama show. It's
- 9:52Speaker 1: almost like a nod to that show that laid the
- 9:55Speaker 1: groundwork for future shows like this. M agree. And and
- 10:00Speaker 1: if you've ever watched and I know this is not
- 10:02Speaker 1: a Gilmore Girls podcast, but if you've ever watched Gilmore
- 10:05Speaker 1: Girls as a parent, it's a totally different story than
- 10:11Speaker 1: watching it as a young adult. We see the boat
- 10:14Speaker 1: in nineteen ninety nine first, and then Alice is greeted
- 10:18Speaker 1: by Colton in Indel and Kat calls to her through
- 10:20Speaker 1: a window, and when she walks in her room, we
- 10:23Speaker 1: get that same Winny reference where she says, what are
- 10:25Speaker 1: you wearing? Yes? Yes, And the best part here in
- 10:28Speaker 1: this whole scene is something I did as a teenager
- 10:32Speaker 1: and what we see Kat doing and she is waiting
- 10:34Speaker 1: for the song to come on the radio so she
- 10:36Speaker 1: can press a record on her tape recorder. Loved it
- 10:40Speaker 1: to make a mixtape. Alice says, mixtapes are so vintage
- 10:43Speaker 1: and cat and maybe my favorite line in the show says,
- 10:46Speaker 1: this is a CD player and a tape player. Yeah, man,
- 10:50Speaker 1: you were balling with a CD player and a tape player,
- 10:54Speaker 1: just like the TV that had the VCR built into
- 10:56Speaker 1: it too, right, Oh yeah, I had one of those,
- 10:59Speaker 1: So of course she's playing Britney Spears Baby Hit Me
- 11:01Speaker 1: One More Time. This was the best selling single of
- 11:04Speaker 1: nineteen ninety nine, still hit in twenty twenty three. I
- 11:08Speaker 1: think I think we need some sort of like notice
- 11:10Speaker 1: in the nineties like music when we have these moments,
- 11:12Speaker 1: because that's definitely a notice in the nineties moment for me,
- 11:15Speaker 1: a one hundred percent. And then we have a moment
- 11:18Speaker 1: where Alice picks up Cat's copy of Alice in Wonderland.
- 11:22Speaker 1: This is the second time we've seen this book in
- 11:24Speaker 1: this show. You know, part of me wonders, is it
- 11:28Speaker 1: just an allusion to the fact that Alice is kind
- 11:30Speaker 1: of like through the looking glass, like she's gone back
- 11:32Speaker 1: in time? Or is this book canna have some greater
- 11:35Speaker 1: meaning that we're not fully aware of yet. Yeah, I
- 11:38Speaker 1: don't know well. And also we never have an explanation
- 11:43Speaker 1: of like how Alice was named to Alice. Did Kat
- 11:46Speaker 1: name Alice after the book or did Kat name Alice
- 11:49Speaker 1: after the friend that she had in nineteen ninety nine?
- 11:53Speaker 1: Cat Alice is named after herself because in the first episode.
- 11:57Speaker 1: I remember she says she named me after me she
- 12:00Speaker 1: had she had been told she was named after her
- 12:02Speaker 1: childhood friend Alice. I know, but why is there no
- 12:05Speaker 1: connection to the Alice in Wonderland book. Yeah, and that's
- 12:08Speaker 1: a good question. I guess we don't know yet that
- 12:10Speaker 1: there isn't. Yeah. Right, And then Elliott comes running in guys,
- 12:14Speaker 1: I got it. And the next scene. Notice in the nineties,
- 12:18Speaker 1: peo pew, we hear the dial up internet sounds of
- 12:22Speaker 1: our youth. Do you remember getting the AOL CD and
- 12:26Speaker 1: the mail? Yes? I do. For me, it was a
- 12:28Speaker 1: hard sell to get my parents to let me to
- 12:30Speaker 1: sign up for it, Like they didn't know what it was.
- 12:33Speaker 1: What are we paying because you had to pay for
- 12:35Speaker 1: a subscription to have AOL? Right, what are we paying for?
- 12:39Speaker 1: So when I was finally allowed to get AOL and
- 12:42Speaker 1: set it up, and by the way, it took forever, yes, yes,
- 12:47Speaker 1: it was a big day for me too, so I
- 12:49Speaker 1: could feel that moment. I remember. I would take the
- 12:54Speaker 1: like the phone line because at that time it was
- 12:58Speaker 1: a dial up modem. You were using regular like landline
- 13:01Speaker 1: at home, and I would be on the Internet and
- 13:04Speaker 1: somebody would pick up the phone to use the phone,
- 13:05Speaker 1: and I'd be like and it would disconnect me, and
- 13:07Speaker 1: I'd like, damn it, I'm on the internet, you know,
- 13:11Speaker 1: I am high emming. Oh my goodness. It took me
- 13:15Speaker 1: back to hear that modem sound, and it makes me
- 13:18Speaker 1: so sad, Like our children will never understand that. I'll
- 13:22Speaker 1: never understand the struggle. They walk around with a computer
- 13:25Speaker 1: in their hands all day, right. You know. Look, when
- 13:27Speaker 1: I went to college, we had to have a special card,
- 13:31Speaker 1: like a piece of hardware installed in our computers in
- 13:34Speaker 1: order to be able to access the really cool high
- 13:36Speaker 1: speed internet on campus. Like it was no WiFi was
- 13:39Speaker 1: plugged into a wall, and I had to have like
- 13:42Speaker 1: someone from the IT department come to my dorm room
- 13:46Speaker 1: and install my computer. And that person's name was Nick.
- 13:49Speaker 1: Alton is a friend of mine to this day. Oh funny,
- 13:52Speaker 1: but I mean the things we went through to get
- 13:55Speaker 1: the Internet. Yeah, it's funny. It's really funny to be
- 13:58Speaker 1: like to hear Cat say something like why can't you
- 14:01Speaker 1: just call her? Yeah, it was kind of a new frontier.
- 14:05Speaker 1: It was very cool to talk to people like all
- 14:07Speaker 1: over the world, you know. Yeah, Alice says, Yeah, the
- 14:11Speaker 1: Internet is a really big deal where I come from.
- 14:13Speaker 1: Next scene, we are back in present day and Elliott,
- 14:17Speaker 1: what's funny? Just one of Kat's lines? Okay, we are
- 14:20Speaker 1: back in present day and Elliott is at the diner
- 14:23Speaker 1: and Kat is reaching her new book as a Laura
- 14:26Speaker 1: Ingalls Wilder but with cars, and she is immediately hung
- 14:30Speaker 1: up on, which I don't hate it. She's just trying
- 14:32Speaker 1: to get that book deal, but doesn't want to write
- 14:34Speaker 1: the story about Jacob. Obviously. Monica comes refills Kat's coffee.
- 14:38Speaker 1: She basically shades her on drinking more coffee and about
- 14:43Speaker 1: drinking alcohol because Kat says something in how she wants
- 14:45Speaker 1: something harder. But you know they're at a diner. Yeah,
- 14:48Speaker 1: it's clearly the morning, I mean exactly. Monica says, oh,
- 14:52Speaker 1: I used to need alcohol on hard days too, which
- 14:56Speaker 1: you know, I don't know, a little too holier than
- 14:59Speaker 1: that in that moment, I agree. Agree. We cut back
- 15:02Speaker 1: to nineteen ninety nine and everyone's standing around the boat,
- 15:04Speaker 1: and this is where we meet young Danny Sawyer and
- 15:07Speaker 1: we learned that my prediction last week was correct. This
- 15:09Speaker 1: is a buddy of Jacob's, all right, bff. Then Kat
- 15:15Speaker 1: is on team boat. She wants this boat to happen.
- 15:17Speaker 1: Dell's not totally sold. She feels like it's I think,
- 15:20Speaker 1: going to be a lot of work. But Colton has
- 15:22Speaker 1: that gleam in his eye. He's got a dream and
- 15:25Speaker 1: he's going to make it happen. Yeah, that's too much
- 15:27Speaker 1: work for me. Like they're like, let's get this boat
- 15:30Speaker 1: in ship shape. I'm like, what, Yeah, I'm not in
- 15:32Speaker 1: a situation. Who's like, I wouldn't even know where to begin. Yeah, yeah,
- 15:36Speaker 1: you want that to float on water. Next thing we
- 15:39Speaker 1: have Kat. She's at the newspaper on the suggestion from
- 15:43Speaker 1: Elliott that she should pitch to work at the newspaper,
- 15:46Speaker 1: the local newspaper. So she's with Byron and they're talking.
- 15:50Speaker 1: She's telling him what a great, like award winning journalist
- 15:54Speaker 1: she is and blah blah blah. And he's like, you're
- 15:56Speaker 1: Dell's daughter, right, Okay, you're hired. Yeah, it's such a
- 15:59Speaker 1: quick turnaround. Well this is kind of a one man operation,
- 16:02Speaker 1: but you're a Dell's kid, Okay. Yes. And it makes
- 16:05Speaker 1: me wonder, a newspaper or is this a daily newspaper?
- 16:08Speaker 1: Is a one man operation? I refuse to believe this
- 16:11Speaker 1: is a daily newspaper. It has to be like the
- 16:14Speaker 1: community paper that comes out once a week, right, that
- 16:17Speaker 1: that's my guest too. Jump back to nineteen ninety nine
- 16:19Speaker 1: and everyone's on the porch of the farmhouse and Jacob's like, Alice,
- 16:22Speaker 1: why do you only come around sometimes? I don't I
- 16:25Speaker 1: don't know what's happening here, and they tell him to
- 16:27Speaker 1: lay off. But this is a very sweet scene of
- 16:30Speaker 1: Colton playing the guitar. Alice joins in, I really like
- 16:35Speaker 1: these musical scenes. I don't always love a musical scene
- 16:38Speaker 1: in the show, but I really enjoy when Alice is playing,
- 16:41Speaker 1: when Colton is playing and singing. Yes, the way Colton
- 16:45Speaker 1: looks at Dell in this scene when he's singing to her,
- 16:49Speaker 1: I'm like, these two were so in love, like they yeah,
- 16:54Speaker 1: it's yeah. It brought up a lot of feelings. I
- 16:57Speaker 1: was like, the is very sweet the way he looks
- 17:00Speaker 1: at her. Yeah. Jump back to the present day and
- 17:03Speaker 1: Dell is delling and is annoyed that Byron has hired
- 17:07Speaker 1: Cat Dell. You wanted her to get a job, Like,
- 17:09Speaker 1: at a point, did you really want her to work
- 17:12Speaker 1: at the point? Is that really what you wanted for?
- 17:14Speaker 1: I mean, I think so. I think she was like,
- 17:16Speaker 1: you need to give up this writing gig and do
- 17:20Speaker 1: some hard work. I don't know. I th that writing
- 17:23Speaker 1: is not hard work. It is hard work, but I
- 17:26Speaker 1: don't understand Dell's She's like a dog with a bone here,
- 17:31Speaker 1: you know what I mean? Yeah, And I think we
- 17:33Speaker 1: can agree that writing a book is different than working
- 17:36Speaker 1: on staff in a newspaper where you're going to have
- 17:38Speaker 1: a steady paycheck, as opposed to writing something that someone
- 17:41Speaker 1: may or may not buy in the future. Exactly. Well,
- 17:44Speaker 1: Alice returns and Kat notices that she's damp, and I
- 17:49Speaker 1: was like, Alice, girl, you need to leave a towel
- 17:51Speaker 1: behind you. Jump in that one. So when she comes
- 17:54Speaker 1: back she could at least dry off, which she changes
- 17:57Speaker 1: her clothes. But the biggest issue here is her Hey,
- 18:00Speaker 1: her hair is always Yes, that too, Yeah, what a drag.
- 18:06Speaker 1: Alice sees the polaroid on the counter and kind of
- 18:08Speaker 1: like freaks out a little bit. But then here's Dell
- 18:11Speaker 1: say that, you know, Delle's gonna sell the boat, and
- 18:13Speaker 1: Alice is clearly upset about it, having seen coming magic. Yes, exactly,
- 18:20Speaker 1: And of course, like Kat and Dell don't understand Alice's
- 18:24Speaker 1: like reaction because they obviously don't know what she just
- 18:29Speaker 1: has experienced back in nineteen ninety nine, like the loving
- 18:33Speaker 1: family and they're very together, and Alice says, like doesn't understand,
- 18:38Speaker 1: like why they don't remember that they used to care
- 18:40Speaker 1: about each other, right, and like what has happened? Yeah,
- 18:44Speaker 1: so con should be happy because she's got her moody
- 18:46Speaker 1: teenager back in this moment exactly, I'm still in the
- 18:49Speaker 1: present day. We cut to the high school. Elliott is
- 18:51Speaker 1: talking to teachers and Alice's never ending pitch to get
- 18:54Speaker 1: him arrested and or fired. She runs up and says,
- 18:58Speaker 1: I found the polaroid, and he says, could you please stop?
- 19:02Speaker 1: I'm doing this. Yeah, it's going to raise too many
- 19:06Speaker 1: questions about their relationship, you know what I mean? Yes,
- 19:10Speaker 1: I mean I see. It comes at comic relief. I
- 19:12Speaker 1: don't think there's going to be anything to come of it,
- 19:14Speaker 1: but it is pretty funny. I like it. It's a nice
- 19:18Speaker 1: running bit. Alice is worried that Kat has figured out
- 19:21Speaker 1: time travel, and Elliott's not worried, but again, great line.
- 19:24Speaker 1: He says, keep an eye on the polaroid. If you
- 19:26Speaker 1: pull a Marty McFly and start to disappear. We have
- 19:28Speaker 1: a problem, and Alice has no idea what he's talking about.
- 19:32Speaker 1: She says, you're so old, quite funny. Has your daughter
- 19:36Speaker 1: seen Back to the Future? She has. Yes, Yes, it's
- 19:40Speaker 1: one of my husband's favorite movies. So my kids have
- 19:41Speaker 1: seen it multiple times. But you can't be like the
- 19:44Speaker 1: flux capacitor. Oh, they would know that. My kids would
- 19:47Speaker 1: know that. I don't know if kids in general, if
- 19:51Speaker 1: it's part of their lexicon. Thank you. Yes, Well, it's
- 19:54Speaker 1: funny because I looked back to see when Back to
- 19:57Speaker 1: the Future came out. It came out theaters in nineteen
- 20:01Speaker 1: eighty five. Yeah, and Elliott, I'm guessing is fifteen and
- 20:05Speaker 1: nineteen ninety nine, so the movie had come out fourteen
- 20:09Speaker 1: years prime. So I think that he would be familiar
- 20:12Speaker 1: with a back to the Future joke, right, Yeah, I
- 20:16Speaker 1: think it's a classic. Yeah, I agree. Still in the
- 20:19Speaker 1: present day, Kat shows up to the Herald and Byron
- 20:23Speaker 1: show her to her desk and it's covered in a
- 20:24Speaker 1: giant stack of books, and he says, yeah, it gives
- 20:26Speaker 1: you a little bit of privacy. And she's pitching all
- 20:29Speaker 1: these columns that she wants to write one about mothers
- 20:31Speaker 1: and John or Z and Byron's like, well, I got
- 20:33Speaker 1: an assignment for you. You're too new. You don't get
- 20:36Speaker 1: to decide what you're writing about. Here, Kat, step back
- 20:38Speaker 1: a minute, and we got to her interviewing a farmer
- 20:41Speaker 1: about the town's biggest cucumber, which is weird. However, we
- 20:47Speaker 1: will get a voice over later on of her article,
- 20:51Speaker 1: which then I feel ties and ties up the episode nicely. Okay,
- 20:56Speaker 1: we're back in high school now and Spencer saciously invites
- 21:01Speaker 1: Alice to his sixteenth birthday party. Now, I'm like, where
- 21:04Speaker 1: is Spencer's girlfriend that we have seen the last two episodes?
- 21:08Speaker 1: Is Zoe his girlfriend? Or are they just buddies? Oh?
- 21:11Speaker 1: Maybe they're just friends. I kind of assumed that they
- 21:14Speaker 1: were boyfriend and girlfriend, but I don't remember exactly. Okay,
- 21:18Speaker 1: I don't know that we've gotten any specific evidence one
- 21:20Speaker 1: way or the other. Okay, So anyway, I think it's
- 21:23Speaker 1: real nice that he invites her to come to the party,
- 21:26Speaker 1: and she, you know, she obviously wants to jump back
- 21:29Speaker 1: in the pond and head back to nineteen ninety nine,
- 21:32Speaker 1: because that's truly like she doesn't even care about present day.
- 21:36Speaker 1: She's really into finding out stuff of the past. You know,
- 21:41Speaker 1: when she says she's found her place, she doesn't mean
- 21:43Speaker 1: in twenty twenty three Porthaven, Right, she's just on assignment. Right.
- 21:49Speaker 1: We jump back to the Harold and Byron does not
- 21:52Speaker 1: love Cat's first article. He says there's no passion. And
- 21:55Speaker 1: I one hundred percent agree with Byron. Here he says,
- 21:58Speaker 1: you know, it feels like you are you're writing like
- 22:01Speaker 1: you're too good for this town, like you are above it.
- 22:03Speaker 1: And Kat says she feels like it's a step back.
- 22:06Speaker 1: And I think that's a real shit move. Kat. This
- 22:08Speaker 1: guy gave you a job, right, don't act like these
- 22:11Speaker 1: people are beneath you. You came back home because you
- 22:13Speaker 1: needed a place to go. Yeah, well, I think that's
- 22:15Speaker 1: the umbrella here is that I think she does. Think
- 22:19Speaker 1: she it was a humbling experience for her to return home. Yes, right,
- 22:25Speaker 1: So the whole scenario of her coming back home, it
- 22:28Speaker 1: feels like a real step back, considering that she's now
- 22:31Speaker 1: divorced and doesn't have a home and you know whatever.
- 22:34Speaker 1: So I mean I think Byron handled it well. I
- 22:39Speaker 1: mean I think he gave her a piece of humble
- 22:41Speaker 1: pie and was like, look, here's where we are. Yes,
- 22:45Speaker 1: show me that you care, is what he says to her.
- 22:48Speaker 1: Now we're back in nineteen ninety nine. Ali, I call
- 22:51Speaker 1: her Ali because that's what I my shorthand in my notes.
- 22:55Speaker 1: That's a cat calls her. Okay. So Alice, you know,
- 22:58Speaker 1: emerges from the pie and she climbs on out and
- 23:03Speaker 1: she goes to grab her backpack that stash, but she
- 23:06Speaker 1: notices that it's dirty and then looks up and sees
- 23:09Speaker 1: that the leaves have changed. She has definitely been gone
- 23:13Speaker 1: a while and is confused because it had only been
- 23:18Speaker 1: just a day that she had been there. We find
- 23:20Speaker 1: out she's been gone for two months, and she runs
- 23:23Speaker 1: to Elliott and realize the pond has the ability to
- 23:26Speaker 1: send you forward in massive leaves of time. And this
- 23:28Speaker 1: is when Elliott journals something that he will say as
- 23:31Speaker 1: adult Elliott, but he writes it as a question does
- 23:33Speaker 1: the pond decide where Alice goes? And we know that
- 23:36Speaker 1: to be the case that the Pond decides when and
- 23:39Speaker 1: when she's allowed to go and when she will go
- 23:42Speaker 1: to right. So I wonder are we going to be
- 23:45Speaker 1: playing with this timeline like will Allie? Is it always
- 23:49Speaker 1: going to be back. Is it always going to be
- 23:51Speaker 1: now where we're at, like or is that going to
- 23:54Speaker 1: be like a sliding scale, you know what I mean? Yeah,
- 23:57Speaker 1: And I can't remember exactly the first time, and Alice
- 24:00Speaker 1: is in Cat's room. She does look at the calendar
- 24:02Speaker 1: and we do say that it's nineteen ninety nine, but
- 24:04Speaker 1: I don't remember if we saw what month it was.
- 24:07Speaker 1: That's a great point. I don't know. I don't know
- 24:09Speaker 1: if it matters. Alice is super worried that Cat's going
- 24:13Speaker 1: to be mad that she's been gone for so long.
- 24:16Speaker 1: She kind of like ghosted her basically, So she runs
- 24:19Speaker 1: to Kat's bedroom and she's logizing and she's like, I'm
- 24:22Speaker 1: so sorry I should have texted you. Cat's like texted,
- 24:26Speaker 1: what are you talking about? But it's so funny, like
- 24:28Speaker 1: it's just completely brushed over, like what did you be?
- 24:32Speaker 1: Like what does that mean? Texted? I would be like,
- 24:34Speaker 1: what are you talking about? Else I'm not able to
- 24:37Speaker 1: let things go easily. Yeah, I mean either, And you
- 24:39Speaker 1: know that doesn't the fact that Alice is making mistakes
- 24:43Speaker 1: and saying things like texted or that's so retro I mean,
- 24:46Speaker 1: she's having natural reactions, like that's what she would say
- 24:49Speaker 1: to a friend, she's not used to editing herself for
- 24:52Speaker 1: twenty four years in the past, right. I was wondering
- 24:55Speaker 1: in this part of the show too. I was like,
- 24:59Speaker 1: does she purpose leave her phone behind, because that would
- 25:02Speaker 1: be a real tell tell she had a you know,
- 25:04Speaker 1: an Apple iPhone in her pocket when she yes, I
- 25:09Speaker 1: think whether it was on purpose or not, I think
- 25:11Speaker 1: she does so her mom can't track her because she
- 25:13Speaker 1: doesn't want to leave it on the bank of the pond.
- 25:16Speaker 1: She doesn't want to jump into the pond with it, right, right,
- 25:20Speaker 1: And you know, Kat accepts her apology, and then she
- 25:23Speaker 1: takes her to a bonfire at the point and we
- 25:26Speaker 1: meet baby Monica for the first time. She takes her
- 25:28Speaker 1: to a party at the cove you're as a restaurant.
- 25:31Speaker 1: It's all right, Yeah, she takes her to this bonfire
- 25:34Speaker 1: and we meet Nick. My brain time travel has scrambled it,
- 25:38Speaker 1: and I was like, oh, that's baby Colton. But no,
- 25:39Speaker 1: that doesn't make any sense. So that's Grandpa. That would
- 25:44Speaker 1: be just a real mix of time travel happening there, Yes,
- 25:47Speaker 1: and would be particularly problematic because it's instantly clear that
- 25:51Speaker 1: Alice is crushing on Nick exactly next scene, we have
- 25:55Speaker 1: the return of ritada best friend Rita. She visits Dan
- 26:00Speaker 1: and Dale's working on her boat, and Rita's excited to
- 26:04Speaker 1: have dinner and drink some wine and hang out like
- 26:07Speaker 1: friends do. But Byron crashes in, Actually he doesn't crash in.
- 26:12Speaker 1: He's coming over to give a set of keys to
- 26:15Speaker 1: Kat for the office. Rita is not happy with his arrival.
- 26:19Speaker 1: Rita's gonna Riada, man, dude, what is her deal? She
- 26:24Speaker 1: rolls her eyes. She is just so over Byron. You know,
- 26:28Speaker 1: when Rita arrived, I kind of had that like, Dale's
- 26:31Speaker 1: just not that into Rita moment. She's like, all right,
- 26:33Speaker 1: I mean, I'll take the glass of wine. But Rita
- 26:35Speaker 1: definitely does not want their moment interrupted by new crush Byron. Right,
- 26:40Speaker 1: what's the story there? I don't get it. We're still
- 26:43Speaker 1: in present day and Kat is still working on her
- 26:46Speaker 1: or reworking her article on the cucumber at the point,
- 26:51Speaker 1: and Monica softens here she pours her a drink. They
- 26:55Speaker 1: chit chat. Now I'm a little leery of mine. I
- 27:00Speaker 1: hope her intentions are good. So we watched this episode
- 27:05Speaker 1: together and immediately when he's like, m I don't trust it.
- 27:10Speaker 1: And my immediate reaction naive that I am, although I
- 27:13Speaker 1: do think it ends up being accurate. I'm immediately happy
- 27:17Speaker 1: that she's softening and that we these two are starting
- 27:20Speaker 1: to connect a little bit. Right. I'm happy about it too,
- 27:22Speaker 1: I'm just like and moreover, she Kat does need more friends. Yeah,
- 27:30Speaker 1: And Monica even says that, like, you can't just talk
- 27:32Speaker 1: to Elliott. So now we're establishing Okay, So Kat is
- 27:37Speaker 1: getting comfortable and she is making friendships and creating her
- 27:42Speaker 1: own community. I wonder if Monica knows how Elliott feels
- 27:48Speaker 1: about Kat, and feel like Kat relying on him too
- 27:51Speaker 1: much isn't fair to Elliott knowing that he has stronger
- 27:54Speaker 1: feelings for her than she has for him. Yeah, but
- 27:58Speaker 1: then that's like a real shit move if she's trying
- 27:59Speaker 1: to of like hook a cat up with that other dude.
- 28:04Speaker 1: Excellent point, you know. We cut back to Dell and Rita,
- 28:07Speaker 1: and Rita confesses that she's the one who told the
- 28:10Speaker 1: tourists about the bow. And I believe this is the
- 28:12Speaker 1: moment at which Wendy yield stop meddling Rita. She is
- 28:15Speaker 1: too invested, and and Dell agrees with me. She does.
- 28:19Speaker 1: She says stop using me as a charity case. She's pissed. Yeah,
- 28:23Speaker 1: And this scene is real uncomfortable, right, these two women,
- 28:28Speaker 1: mature women yelling at each other. Enviyron's like ladies like
- 28:33Speaker 1: Rita says, shut up, new guy. Oh so funny. Obviously,
- 28:37Speaker 1: that's like a throwback line to a couple episodes before
- 28:40Speaker 1: when when she called him new guy and he's like,
- 28:42Speaker 1: I've been here six years. Yeah, you know whatever. We
- 28:45Speaker 1: cut back to Monica and Cat and they're bonding over
- 28:47Speaker 1: having teenagers, and at this point they both apologize to
- 28:51Speaker 1: each other. Cat apologizes for acting like the town is
- 28:53Speaker 1: beneath her and Monica apologizes pretending like she has it
- 28:57Speaker 1: all together. And I like that these two are bonding
- 29:00Speaker 1: in this moment. In Walks, Andy Wowie Zowie Alert played
- 29:04Speaker 1: by Alex mllary Junior, who is on the IMDb for
- 29:07Speaker 1: the show, which leads me to believe he's more than
- 29:09Speaker 1: just a casual introduction. He's also on Jenny and Georgia.
- 29:13Speaker 1: He plays the PI on Jenny and Georgia. I can't
- 29:17Speaker 1: remember his name. It's nice to see him on another series.
- 29:20Speaker 1: Agree and Monica here is couraging Cat to pursue like
- 29:25Speaker 1: you know you're single. Now, single lady, let's let's get
- 29:29Speaker 1: with it. But Cat's like what okay. Cut back to
- 29:33Speaker 1: nineteen eighty nine. They're still at the bonfire and Alice
- 29:36Speaker 1: and Nick are talking, and Nick is talking about the
- 29:39Speaker 1: Red Hot Chili Peppers Californication album Notice in the nineties
- 29:43Speaker 1: and how he thinks that album's really gonna really gonna
- 29:46Speaker 1: have some meaning in the long run. Yeah, so it's
- 29:49Speaker 1: funny here. I received a message from listener Paula about
- 29:54Speaker 1: this particular scene. She says, I love the Red Hot
- 29:59Speaker 1: Chili Peppers reference, although it was the wrong song, and
- 30:03Speaker 1: I was like, what do you mean the reference and
- 30:04Speaker 1: the wrong song. She says that Nick is referencing Californication,
- 30:10Speaker 1: which we know, but episode two was titled Scar Tissue,
- 30:14Speaker 1: which came from Californication. So I think there's just like
- 30:18Speaker 1: some disconnect on that episode was named after the Red
- 30:23Speaker 1: Hot Chili Pepper song. But now it's only this episode
- 30:26Speaker 1: that we're getting, like the reference. I hear me and
- 30:29Speaker 1: Alice tells a beautiful story about why she plays music,
- 30:32Speaker 1: and then we get Nick playing the guitar badly. He's
- 30:36Speaker 1: real bad. I have another notice in the nineties moment,
- 30:39Speaker 1: which is Kat is wearing a string of butterfly clips
- 30:42Speaker 1: in her hair. So you know, it's so bad. I
- 30:46Speaker 1: won those in college. I was in college. Oh I
- 30:51Speaker 1: have photos, my goodness, not the greatest look. So Kat
- 30:58Speaker 1: encourages Alice to play the guitar, and she picks it
- 31:02Speaker 1: up and sings an acoustic version of Britney Spears Baby
- 31:06Speaker 1: Hit Me One More Time. Everybody's excited, totally. I was excited.
- 31:10Speaker 1: That was a great version of that song. I know
- 31:12Speaker 1: it's so good, And I was wondering, does Sadie snow?
- 31:14Speaker 1: Is she an actual singer? Is she singing these songs? Right?
- 31:17Speaker 1: She's she's gotta be Yeah, she's real good. And the
- 31:21Speaker 1: cops arrive and everybody runs. Yeah, but here's a did
- 31:25Speaker 1: you see that moment? I know, we don't do that
- 31:28Speaker 1: in this, in this I love it. Bring it on. Well,
- 31:32Speaker 1: the cops get there and the kids scatter, but you see,
- 31:35Speaker 1: there's a full cooler of soda of soda. It's not
- 31:39Speaker 1: even like they have like red cups or like anything,
- 31:42Speaker 1: you know what I mean, They're just hanging out. I'm like,
- 31:44Speaker 1: why are they Why would they be in trouble? Yeah,
- 31:46Speaker 1: it's still the sun's still up. Yeah, they're just gathering.
- 31:50Speaker 1: And we cut to the present day where Dell's having
- 31:54Speaker 1: flashbacks of the boat and that's all I have about
- 31:57Speaker 1: that moment, me too. Dell remembers Coltman in the boat.
- 32:01Speaker 1: It's kind of weird, like there's nothing really going on there.
- 32:03Speaker 1: Still in present day, we cut back to Alice and
- 32:05Speaker 1: Nick and they're hiding from the cops. The sun has
- 32:06Speaker 1: gone down. The cops are not looking for you. You're
- 32:09Speaker 1: not on the lamb. You do not need to hide
- 32:11Speaker 1: for that long. They're done with you.
- 32:13Speaker 2: They just wanted to break up the party, yes, and
- 32:16Speaker 2: this is a perfect excuse for Nick and Alice to
- 32:19Speaker 2: get cozy and share a smooch.
- 32:23Speaker 1: In this one. I'm like, oh no, Alice, you're missing
- 32:26Speaker 1: Spencer's party because right before it was about to be
- 32:29Speaker 1: broken up, she was about to leave and jump in
- 32:31Speaker 1: the pond and head back to Spencer's party, right, And
- 32:35Speaker 1: so Kat invites Ali to spend the night and Elliot's like,
- 32:38Speaker 1: what do you do? Eat Like, you need to go home.
- 32:40Speaker 1: You gotta go home, and she's like, no, I'm choosing
- 32:43Speaker 1: to stay. Regardless of the trouble. She's going to get
- 32:46Speaker 1: into in present day, and here you have a real
- 32:49Speaker 1: problem because she has to explain her absences in nineteen
- 32:53Speaker 1: ninety nine as well as present day. Yes, although I
- 32:57Speaker 1: do think it's easier to say I have to go
- 32:59Speaker 1: home to Cat than it is to explain to her
- 33:02Speaker 1: mother why she was out all night. Inexactly, you know
- 33:05Speaker 1: where to be found, yes, exactly. Alice and Cat are
- 33:09Speaker 1: in their jammies god thinking about the kiss being fifteen
- 33:11Speaker 1: year old girls, and Alice very humorously wonders if he's
- 33:15Speaker 1: her boyfriend now, and Kat's like, well, I have a boyfriend.
- 33:18Speaker 1: And here's our first nineteenninety nine mention of Braiden slash Brady.
- 33:22Speaker 1: A couple of things, sir. Why do you think they
- 33:26Speaker 1: have nicknames for all of these characters? Oh, it's to
- 33:31Speaker 1: know it's it's it's a little bit confusing for me
- 33:35Speaker 1: to be honest, okay, because we have his name's Braiden,
- 33:38Speaker 1: but I call him Brady. We have Dell, who is
- 33:41Speaker 1: obviously Delilah and Deli. We have Alice who's Ali, and
- 33:46Speaker 1: Cat and Catherine. It's just like a lot of it's
- 33:50Speaker 1: it would be confusing for a person to come in
- 33:52Speaker 1: who didn't know who these characters were. Yeah, that's interesting
- 33:55Speaker 1: to me. It just kind of warms the characters up
- 33:58Speaker 1: that they all because that's real life, that everyone has
- 34:01Speaker 1: these nicknames for people. True, I think, but because there's
- 34:05Speaker 1: so much going on, it can be a little bit confusing. Yes.
- 34:09Speaker 1: I also want to mention that this scene with Kat
- 34:13Speaker 1: and Alice as teenagers being in I think they're up
- 34:18Speaker 1: in the Elliott's treehouse or loft or whatever they're in,
- 34:22Speaker 1: but this scene with the two of them laying there
- 34:24Speaker 1: in bed and just talking really took me back to
- 34:27Speaker 1: being a teenager and those moments like being with your
- 34:31Speaker 1: best friend and you're talking in bed before you go
- 34:34Speaker 1: to sleep, and the giggles and the ah, such a
- 34:37Speaker 1: good time. I was like, this is definitely what best
- 34:41Speaker 1: friends do. Right at this point, and they share secrets.
- 34:44Speaker 1: Kat shares the secret of meeting this boy and how
- 34:48Speaker 1: you know he's a secret from the family because she's
- 34:51Speaker 1: worried that Dell won't like him or his family because
- 34:56Speaker 1: they come from money. And she asked Alice, like, do
- 35:00Speaker 1: you have secrets? And here Alice takes a beat and
- 35:05Speaker 1: tells her that she can time travel, and of course
- 35:08Speaker 1: Kat thinks she's joking, which is the correct response, right,
- 35:11Speaker 1: because what are you going to be like? Okay, cool, cool,
- 35:14Speaker 1: coo cool. Yeah. So now we're back in present day
- 35:18Speaker 1: and Alice is running through the farm early am, trying
- 35:22Speaker 1: to get home. So nobody you know, had missed her.
- 35:25Speaker 1: Come on, this doesn't make any sense to me, and
- 35:27Speaker 1: go ahead, and then I'm gonna I'm gonna point out
- 35:30Speaker 1: this is where Megan's gonna Meghan and I would too,
- 35:33Speaker 1: trust me. So Dell sees Alice running through and she's like, hmm,
- 35:37Speaker 1: that's weird. And Alice climbs into her room, gets back
- 35:40Speaker 1: in bed with wet hair, with wet hair, and she
- 35:45Speaker 1: texts Spencer and says like, you know, sorry for flaking
- 35:49Speaker 1: on the party, blah blah blah whatever. Kat comes in
- 35:52Speaker 1: and compliments her, or she basically is like, oh you're
- 35:56Speaker 1: you're still in bed and this is where Meghan went
- 35:58Speaker 1: yesterday when we were watching together. What did she go like,
- 36:01Speaker 1: Cat's not waiting up for this kid, right, yeah, especially
- 36:04Speaker 1: so she went missing like just days before. Also, yeah,
- 36:08Speaker 1: when I was a teenager, I had to my dad
- 36:11Speaker 1: would wait up for me and if for some reason
- 36:13Speaker 1: they didn't wait up. I had to go in and
- 36:14Speaker 1: wake my parents up when I came home. There was
- 36:16Speaker 1: no like sneaking in going to my room, and they
- 36:19Speaker 1: didn't know if I was home or not. Right, Come on,
- 36:23Speaker 1: I know you say, like I'm being Megan here, but
- 36:25Speaker 1: are you letting your fifteen You're going to bed and
- 36:27Speaker 1: you don't know where your fifteen year old is and
- 36:28Speaker 1: you're just like, eh, she'll show up. No, maybe we
- 36:33Speaker 1: could say like, oh, she believed her to be at Spencer,
- 36:36Speaker 1: so she figured she was fine and she just went
- 36:38Speaker 1: to bed. But I don't buy it. Yeah, I understand. Well,
- 36:42Speaker 1: And on top of that, she had Monica telling her like, hey,
- 36:45Speaker 1: she's safe at my house. Yes, don't worry about it.
- 36:48Speaker 1: It's all good. So I mean there's some built in
- 36:51Speaker 1: backstory there of like maybe she wasn't tracking her on
- 36:54Speaker 1: Life three sixty to see like where she was at.
- 36:57Speaker 1: But yes, as a mom to a fifteen year old
- 37:00Speaker 1: that I am likely making sure she's snuggled into her
- 37:03Speaker 1: bed at night. Yes. Anyway, it's just someone to point
- 37:07Speaker 1: out here. I really really love the bedspread. Oh yeah,
- 37:12Speaker 1: Alice's bed here, it's real cute. But anyway, here we go.
- 37:16Speaker 1: Kat's like complimenting her and telling her how how great
- 37:19Speaker 1: she's doing import haven. Remember it's only been like three
- 37:22Speaker 1: or four or five days at this point, and that
- 37:27Speaker 1: Alice is really building her trust back and her mom.
- 37:31Speaker 1: And then Kat leaves and you see Alice feels real guilty.
- 37:35Speaker 1: She does. And prior to this, when she came in,
- 37:38Speaker 1: we saw a bunch of texts from Spencer are are
- 37:42Speaker 1: you are you? Are you coming? Are you running late?
- 37:45Speaker 1: And she lies and says that she was sick. Right now,
- 37:49Speaker 1: I kind of like saw this like foreshadowing moment when
- 37:51Speaker 1: we see Monica talking to Kat in the diner about
- 37:54Speaker 1: how Spencer's hosting this party and Alice is there. I
- 37:57Speaker 1: suspect that this was going to blow up in her face. Well, sure,
- 38:00Speaker 1: like you can't ever count on teenagers not running into
- 38:04Speaker 1: your parents somewhere. You got to cover your bases, right,
- 38:08Speaker 1: especially at small town exactly, And Spencer and Alice don't
- 38:12Speaker 1: have that kind of relationship to be like, oh, I
- 38:14Speaker 1: got to go do something else. But if you see
- 38:15Speaker 1: my mom tell her that I was at your party.
- 38:17Speaker 1: Yeah no, no, we're in the kitchen. We're still talking
- 38:20Speaker 1: about the damn boat. Yeah, Alice still wants Dell to
- 38:22Speaker 1: keep the boat, and we get a flash forward to
- 38:24Speaker 1: Colton on the boat. We find out where the scratches
- 38:27Speaker 1: on the boat came from us. He kind of crashes
- 38:28Speaker 1: into the dock as it were, and he says, I
- 38:31Speaker 1: can't find him. He's gone. We have to be talking
- 38:34Speaker 1: about Jacob, right, we have to assume. However, there's a
- 38:37Speaker 1: line in a minute. Mmmm, that's confusing to me. Okay,
- 38:42Speaker 1: But we finally get another softening of Dell and she says, Kat,
- 38:47Speaker 1: you're a good mom. You're doing a good job. Yeah, finally, Yeah, God,
- 38:51Speaker 1: what do I have to do? No? Kat definitely needed
- 38:54Speaker 1: some reassurance here, I think, and Dell did need to
- 38:58Speaker 1: realize that Alice is her granddaughter. She has a parent here,
- 39:03Speaker 1: so she has to relinquish some of those you know,
- 39:07Speaker 1: parenting moments to her actual mother. Yes, Alice runs into
- 39:12Speaker 1: mister Augustine school and says, when are you going to
- 39:14Speaker 1: tell me that the pond can send me ahead in time?
- 39:16Speaker 1: And he doesn't really want to meddle with what she
- 39:19Speaker 1: knows and what she doesn't know. Yeah. Then we get
- 39:22Speaker 1: Monica and Kat back at the point and inlocks Andy again,
- 39:25Speaker 1: who introduces himself again they just met last night? Yeah,
- 39:28Speaker 1: like really, but Monica's like given the big obvious mime like,
- 39:32Speaker 1: I'm your number, right, They all clock that, and Kat
- 39:36Speaker 1: has andy your number exactly, she writes it down on
- 39:41Speaker 1: a nac can, but give me your phone. Weird. Spencer
- 39:45Speaker 1: arrives at the point, and this is when Alice is
- 39:49Speaker 1: Lie all falls apart because Kat says, hey, thanks so
- 39:52Speaker 1: much for including Alice and your party, and He's like,
- 39:54Speaker 1: oh yeah, too bad she couldn't come. Well yet, did
- 39:58Speaker 1: he seem annoyed to you? Yes, that's why I'm like,
- 40:01Speaker 1: I don't think that's his girlfriend. Yeah, That's what I'm
- 40:03Speaker 1: wondering if, like, is he crushing on her a little bit?
- 40:06Speaker 1: Like truly, why would he text her so many times
- 40:09Speaker 1: like are you coming? Are you coming? Are you? Why?
- 40:11Speaker 1: Are you here? Is everything okay? Blah blah blah blah.
- 40:13Speaker 1: You know, yeah, agree where they were holding hands though
- 40:18Speaker 1: in the first episode okay, but I can't I can't recall. Well.
- 40:22Speaker 1: It also could just be like he's trying to reach
- 40:24Speaker 1: out and feels like, hey, I was being a good
- 40:26Speaker 1: dude and you're not being a good dude in return,
- 40:31Speaker 1: especially because Alice is not terribly well liked at the school.
- 40:35Speaker 1: So Spencer's kind of going out on a limb by
- 40:38Speaker 1: extending this alive branch right. And now this is the
- 40:41Speaker 1: moment I hate because Monica knows that Kat has been
- 40:44Speaker 1: led to They had this bonding moment and she knows that,
- 40:48Speaker 1: oh Cat trusted her daughter and boom, that did not
- 40:51Speaker 1: go well. So you don't like this scene because you
- 40:55Speaker 1: don't want Monica to know. I don't dislike this scene.
- 40:59Speaker 1: I just felt secondhand embarrassment for Cat because another parent
- 41:03Speaker 1: found out that my kid were lying to me that
- 41:05Speaker 1: I was the last to know. I'd feel not great. Yeah,
- 41:09Speaker 1: I hear you, I hear you. Cut back to the kitchen,
- 41:13Speaker 1: Alice is singing Brittany at the table. Dell announces she's
- 41:15Speaker 1: going to keep the boat, and Alice says I'm gonna
- 41:19Speaker 1: go meet up with Spencer and Zoe and Cat does
- 41:22Speaker 1: not bust her. This is a cool move by mom. Yeah,
- 41:25Speaker 1: I don't have any chill, like like, no, you're not
- 41:29Speaker 1: where were you? Lest totally I busted that door down
- 41:33Speaker 1: and be like, young lady, represent no chill. Well she's
- 41:38Speaker 1: definitely well. At this point, I was like, oh she's
- 41:40Speaker 1: trying to set Alice up to you know, expose her
- 41:46Speaker 1: cards or whatever. Anyway. But during this scene too, Cat
- 41:49Speaker 1: shows Dell the article, the new article that she had
- 41:52Speaker 1: written about the cucumber, and we have this voice over
- 41:55Speaker 1: Cat's Cat's basically it's her voice reading the article and
- 41:58Speaker 1: they're talking about trust is what it comes down to.
- 42:03Speaker 1: He didn't set out to grow the biggest cue number.
- 42:06Speaker 1: He just trusted the sillial. I don't know whatever the
- 42:10Speaker 1: main theme there is about trust, and now we have
- 42:13Speaker 1: Kat who doesn't trust Alice anymore, so she is following
- 42:18Speaker 1: Alice out to the pond. You know, I also see
- 42:22Speaker 1: in that moment, in addition to that article being about trust,
- 42:25Speaker 1: a little bit about you know, Kat wasn't necessarily expecting
- 42:29Speaker 1: to find happiness or a place at home. She was
- 42:33Speaker 1: coming home as a last resort. And I think with
- 42:36Speaker 1: the connection to Monica, with giving her number to Andy,
- 42:40Speaker 1: she's with having a job, She's starting to feel like
- 42:43Speaker 1: even what she planned to do is turning into something different.
- 42:47Speaker 1: Right now, before moving on, what is your line that
- 42:50Speaker 1: you didn't like something about the boat? I think it
- 42:55Speaker 1: happens when Dell tells Kat that she's a good mom
- 42:57Speaker 1: and they're on the boat and they're talking about Alice
- 43:00Speaker 1: and Alice kind of pressuring Dell to keep the boat
- 43:04Speaker 1: and Kat says, she doesn't know. We never took the
- 43:06Speaker 1: boat out. Okay, yes, but we see Colton on the boat. Now,
- 43:12Speaker 1: it could be that the only time the boat was
- 43:14Speaker 1: taken out was to look for the hymn in that
- 43:17Speaker 1: moment that we see, which we assume is Jacob, but
- 43:19Speaker 1: we don't know and Kat doesn't know about it? Or
- 43:23Speaker 1: is there something else going on? Right, that's what I
- 43:25Speaker 1: don't know. That's could be nothing. Got it totally understand.
- 43:30Speaker 1: So now we see Kat sees Alice jump into the pond,
- 43:35Speaker 1: and Alice does not come back up, So Kat's like,
- 43:38Speaker 1: what the help? Well, she doesn't say what the hell,
- 43:39Speaker 1: but she like runs down to the pond yealing her name,
- 43:42Speaker 1: yelling her name, and then jumps into the pond after her.
- 43:48Speaker 1: And the question is is it clever editing or does
- 43:51Speaker 1: Cat really not come back up? Well? I saw the
- 43:54Speaker 1: preview for next week. Oh, Kat is back in nineteen
- 43:59Speaker 1: ninety nine. When we were watching this, I was like,
- 44:02Speaker 1: this is really going to mess up the space time continuum.
- 44:04Speaker 1: But she runs into her younger self totally. Everything we
- 44:07Speaker 1: know about time travel says, do not meet your younger self.
- 44:11Speaker 1: So we shall see. But what I like about it
- 44:15Speaker 1: is now we don't just have Alice's line or storyline
- 44:19Speaker 1: of her returning to the past. Now we have Cat
- 44:23Speaker 1: returning to the past, and so it's going to open
- 44:25Speaker 1: this whole new chapter. I feel like, yes, that's a
- 44:30Speaker 1: great point, and I think I like that we're going
- 44:33Speaker 1: to get Cat in on this secret because it's not
- 44:36Speaker 1: sustainable for Alice to continue to time. She can't keep disappearing, right,
- 44:40Speaker 1: And so they both have motivation to want to return
- 44:44Speaker 1: to the past for different reasons, and so hopefully they
- 44:47Speaker 1: can work as a team. Well, I think Kat's biggest
- 44:51Speaker 1: motivation would be to obviously not lose her brother, yes,
- 44:56Speaker 1: or find out what happened exactly. Now, speaking of what
- 45:00Speaker 1: happened last week, I did put a pole on our
- 45:04Speaker 1: Girl's gone Homer. Yes, Instagram. Now, are you interested in
- 45:09Speaker 1: hearing where people what people think happened to Jake very
- 45:14Speaker 1: Here are some responses, and I'm going to tell you
- 45:19Speaker 1: they're all very similar. He is in another time. He's
- 45:22Speaker 1: a traveler too. He jumped into the lake. Obviously he
- 45:26Speaker 1: ended up. Oh, he ended up with Jamie and Clair
- 45:29Speaker 1: from Outlander. I don't watch that show. It's a joke
- 45:31Speaker 1: that I don't give. He's trapped in time travel and
- 45:34Speaker 1: can't figure out how to get back. He fell into
- 45:36Speaker 1: the pond, and he's in the future somewhere. They're basically
- 45:40Speaker 1: all the same, and then there's two very dark ones. Uh.
- 45:44Speaker 1: Oh he was kidnapped. Uh huh. Child abduction. Oh no,
- 45:49Speaker 1: I'm like this would take a real turn. Yeah, which,
- 45:53Speaker 1: to be fair, it could be any of these things. Right,
- 45:56Speaker 1: was there one second and he wasn't the next, So
- 45:59Speaker 1: where I may go? Is it more likely he was
- 46:02Speaker 1: abducted traveling back to nineteen nine right when he can't
- 46:07Speaker 1: get out exactly. I'm gonna side up with abduction. It's
- 46:13Speaker 1: not a bad not a bad choice.
- 46:16Speaker 2: There.
- 46:17Speaker 1: Let's talk about our homie of the week. Yes, ma'am,
- 46:20Speaker 1: we are a warning this week's Homie of the week
- 46:22Speaker 1: to one Miss Monica for making the first move, breaking
- 46:27Speaker 1: the ice with Kat reconnecting these two old friends. What
- 46:30Speaker 1: I'm curious to see, though, is when we meet young
- 46:35Speaker 1: Monica in the past. She is the first Monica that
- 46:38Speaker 1: we meet. She's kind of shady, so When are we
- 46:42Speaker 1: going to see them become friends in the past. I
- 46:46Speaker 1: don't know, because they clearly don't like each other in
- 46:49Speaker 1: nineteen ninety nine, No, they did not seem to. But
- 46:52Speaker 1: right so did they always have this sort of antagonistic
- 46:55Speaker 1: relationship or do they become real friends? That's what I'd
- 46:59Speaker 1: like to see about. Monica. You are our homie of
- 47:02Speaker 1: the week, played by Samora Smallwood. Thank you for listening
- 47:05Speaker 1: to this episode of Girls Gone Hallmark. If you enjoyed
- 47:09Speaker 1: these episodes, we'd love it if you'd share it with

- 47:14Speaker 1: star rating and a review in the Apple Podcast app,

- 47:25Speaker 1: Goodbye bye,
