- 0:00I think you're my puppy. I found this letter you wrote to my mom
- 0:05Mona Simpson. Dear God, I always dreamed this day would come, and
- 0:11now that it's here, there are so many feelings. I oh possible,
- 0:17Daddy. I'm sorry, I got a little carried away there perfectly. All
- 0:24right, here's your comeback four finger discount due. Welcome to fourthinger Discount,
- 0:47the podcast where we always fire our guns into the fireplace. This week where
- 0:51here's a review episode h ab F zero three. It is Homer's paternity coot.
- 0:56I am Danda and I am that suave new stranger guy doing today,
- 1:00mister dandel all right, doing very good, fresh off our excursion to Melvin
- 1:03yesterday. That's true. We brave the wilds of super Over. Yeah,
- 1:08ventured among the nerds, the dorks, the geeks and the dorky nerdy geeks,
- 1:14and we blended right in, didn't we. We certainly they said welcome
- 1:18when a this have some juice or some shocking heads. But it was great
- 1:25year. We went to super and over visited our friends up there, and
- 1:26we had a very special meeting with someone that we won't discussed just too much
- 1:30detail just yet, but we're very very very big announce we're coming here soon
- 1:34on the four finger Discount network that we're incredibly excited for, So stay tuned
- 1:37for that one. I know you'll definitely know what I'm talking about when we
- 1:40announced it. It's a pretty big deal. Things are a bruin at four
- 1:44Fingered Discount HQ. Yes, so we're talking a lot about Simpsons HQ.
- 1:47I think we'll be able to start talking about four Fingered Discount HQ in the
- 1:49same breath. Exactly right. Yes, so that's going to be coming up.
- 1:53Yes, I enjoyed my excursion. So basically we have to go up
- 1:55to super over to discuss something of somebody guys like, oh drive, I'm
- 1:57like cool, saves me the hassle. Get up there. We have a
- 2:00good time, and then we went how was the donuts? Because we made
- 2:02a bit of a detra on the way home because guy he had found this
- 2:06cafe, plugged the cafe, why nut go for what was it called peck
- 2:07deck or something? It's called pecks Is it pecks road cheap meals something like
- 2:14that. I'm not sure as pecks. It was a bit of a detO
- 2:16on the way home. But like guy had his heart set on these donuts
- 2:19and they looked delicious. It was very home mares got me to make a
- 2:23half hour detour into the wilds of the Melbourne suburbs. Out of Suburbs because
- 2:29I had a Facebook post that had come up saying, look at these donuts
- 2:31and I'm like, those donuts that were real good. I'm gonna go gets
- 2:35up. They weren't too bad. The strawberry Crawler I had last night was
- 2:38really very nice, oh yesterday afternoon. The Apple Fretter I had this morning
- 2:44not too bad, a little too sugary, and I've still got one more
- 2:46to go. Yeah, because he's like this has been my morning tea for
- 2:49the next week or today. It's like I'm going to spread these out over
- 2:54the week and I bought three and two have already gone. Stame on you
- 3:01for making such great donuts. But the funniest part of it the trip home,
- 3:06was we pull out of this Supermark honestly Ope with cafe, like the
- 3:07little car park area. We turn left and it's a round about right there,
- 3:10and I knew we had to go right to get out, but it's
- 3:13one way. It a bit to turn left. I'm like, I'm assuming
- 3:15we just checking you were here, and then go's like, now Google Map
- 3:16says a bit the straights, where I'm like, that's the opposite direction where
- 3:20we have to go. But oh, I'll just go with it whatever.
- 3:23We drive about two hundred friends at the road, we get to another round
- 3:24about, do a hue, and we get back to the round about.
- 3:28So we could have just hue at the moment. Fuck you, Google Maps.
- 3:31I am. I am very much a twenty first century boy now in
- 3:35that I cannot make up my own mind when it comes to directions or anything.
- 3:38I have to follow what the map. Well, Google Map says,
- 3:42what Google does, what Google says, goes. Yeah, I know Google
- 3:45says, got up there. But common sense sharp avail and say we should
- 3:47just go that way straight away. Look, you gotta listen to common sense.
- 3:53But we're here to review Homeless Paternity Coop. Before we do that,
- 3:55though, I just want to let you guys know that, first of all,
- 3:58thank you for chinning to the show. We do appreciate all of your

- 4:16stars, bang done. We want to try and get our five hundred,
- 4:20five hundred reviews on our Spotify page as well, So try and make that
- 4:24happen this week. I know you guys can make that happen, but so
- 4:27homis paternity. I really enjoyed this episode. I think seven season seventeen is
- 4:30on a bit of a roll at the moment. They're on a winning streak
- 4:32at the moment that we've had a few good episodes in a row. Fingers
- 4:36cross, they keep the street running this Yeah, I really enjoyed this episode
- 4:42felt I know we say this a lot when we are pleasantly surprised by the
- 4:46quality of an episode in a later season, but it felt kind of vintage.
- 4:48It felt like it wouldn't be out of place in the earlier dare we
- 4:53say, better seasons, But then no way. I had a great time
- 4:56with this one. A fantastic guest star performance and a couple of really just
- 5:00neat cameos that were just well, well chosen and well performed, but and
- 5:06a solid story all the way through. Yeah, it wasn't too It wasn't
- 5:11not whacky because I final lately they've sort of had a story about Marge or
- 5:14by whatever, and Home is doing something just completely whacky on the side,
- 5:16because you know, hey, we would have Home doing something this one.
- 5:19Whilst it is kind of whack in the sense that oh I might not Grandpa
- 5:23might not be home as real father, I thought they felt that they kept
- 5:26it quite grounded still, which I really enjoyed. But I just thought Michael
- 5:29York as Mason Fairbanks was fantastic. And he was part of the audio commentary
- 5:33for the episode, and he can just tell by the way he talks about
- 5:35it that he really just appreciated the opportunity to be on the show. He
- 5:41holds the Simpsons in such high regard, which says something you know, for
- 5:44the Simpsons, But he says that he was just incredibly nervous going into the
- 5:46show. He just didn't want to fuck it up, basically, and he
- 5:49didn't. I thought he was really good as Mason Fairbanks. He really didn't
- 5:53know. I mean, Michael York's one of those guys who has sort of
- 5:55been around forever for guys of my vintage. Well, I think it wasn't
- 6:00too long ago, whether it was on four Finger Discount or one of the
- 6:02many other shows on the four Finger Discount network that I was talking about one
- 6:05of my favorite sci fi movies of the seventies, Logans Run. He was
- 6:10the eponymous logan in that one. Yeah, but younger viewers people of Dando's
- 6:15Ilk might know him as Basil Exposition from the Austin Powers movies. Yeah,
- 6:19but he's a He's a guy who has just worked forever. He just from
- 6:25his name, to his look, to his voice, everything about him just
- 6:29says I'm English. And he said that he was tossing up which accent to
- 6:33use. Does he get Cockney and does get Northern? But he just went,
- 6:36I just kind of went my voice just tweet that slightly. He's like,
- 6:40let's not have a complication. Yeah, let's just say that went a
- 6:42British accent. My accent sounds pretty British, like pretty lighty d kind of
- 6:46cliche British. So let's just run with it. You know. I think
- 6:49he added maybe just a little extra plum to it. It's a it's a
- 6:53little bit more plummy than usual, but it really works for this scenario,
- 6:58for this particular character and the situation that that Homer finds himself in with this
- 7:02new father figure in his life. I mean, Homer is, shall we
- 7:06say, the opposite I've sophisticated. So to have perhaps the most sophisticated voice
- 7:12self, most sophisticated voice ever heard coming out of this man who's maybe Homer's
- 7:18father, is just just great comic setup. Yeah, and I like the
- 7:24way that, you know, in a nor situation, you'd go, why
- 7:26would this rich guy want to bring Homer? But it's like, this guy's
- 7:29been so lonely his whole life, he's always wanted to meet Homer. So
- 7:31regardless of how you know the opposite Homer is to what he is and his
- 7:34lifestyle, it's like, well, he's my son. I'm just going to
- 7:36cling onto this gig because I've I've always wanted to meet him, you know,
- 7:40I've in my mind he's always been my son. I know he's my
- 7:43son. Turns out he was wrong, but um, but yeah, I
- 7:46just love the way that you know, he just he's willing to just take
- 7:47Homer in the family because he's like, hey, he's my kid. It
- 7:50was kind of a sweet gesture as well, or a quite a kind of
- 7:54a sweet term because I think we've seen a lot of episodes in the past
- 7:57where there have been family reunions or long lost relations or offspring sort of showing
- 8:03him on the scene and generally being embarrassing or someone is embarrassed by at one
- 8:09at one or both sides of the equation. For example, the Manatees episode
- 8:13where Homer goes to see his random cousins that live on the farm or whatever.
- 8:18Yeah, yeah, yeah, the one that we didn't quite get the
- 8:22episode. We were like, what what's the deal here? But yeah,
- 8:24Mason Fairbanks was a very sweet gentleman. Was He was clearly kind of taken
- 8:28aback by some of Homer's more vulgar qualities, but you know, he didn't
- 8:33judge him on him or anything like that. It was just more like,
- 8:35no, he was very accepting and just a gentleman all around. Yeah,
- 8:39a nice character and a very nice performance by mister York. He did have
- 8:43a good job with the design of Mason as well. I think in the
- 8:46sense that he looked not like Homer, but enough where you go it could
- 8:52be he's dad. You know, it's not. If you look at it
- 8:54now knowing that he's not his dad, it's like, oh, it doesn't
- 8:56really look like him. But there was enough to design just particul the mouth
- 9:00where it's like I can buy this. Maybe also also in the body shape,
- 9:03I mean, yeah, yeah, I mean, homes clearly goes let
- 9:07himself go or just you know, doesn't say no to seconds or anything like
- 9:09that. Mason Fairbanks as an older man who's sort of kept himself in relative
- 9:15shape, but it's like, well, you've got that kind of body that,
- 9:16as you get older, is going to get a little more barrel shaped.
- 9:18And yeah, I mean, I think we're so used to seeing Homer
- 9:22an Abe next to one another, and you know, their designs are so
- 9:26similar. It's like, of course they're father and son. But yeah,
- 9:28you're right, there's just enough wiggle room in the design of Mason Fairbanks that
- 9:33you're gonna get maybe it's a possibility. Yeah, it's great. They they
- 9:39thought a lot of stuff out this episode, not just in terms of the
- 9:43main story, but yeah, and in terms of other things as well.
- 9:48Now that. Only one of the bigger negatives I can have of the episode
- 9:50is that I kind of felt at times Homer was very dismissive of Grandpa after
- 9:54he thought that Mason was his father. You know, he says, Grandpa's
- 9:58raised him my whole life, and it says he tries the thing. I
- 10:00know, they had the moment where he's like, all the things you've done
- 10:01for me, and he tries to think of something. You can't think of
- 10:03anything. It's like, oh, well, you've done nothing for me.
- 10:05I'm going to go lunch onto this guy who's rich he's my real father.
- 10:09But the thing is, I thought by the end of it though, the
- 10:11way he had the flashback and things like that, Yeah, I'm always a
- 10:13sucker for those emotional flashbacks. The one that reminded me of was Lisa an
- 10:18Ice, where but and Lisa had the flashbacks to them looking after each other
- 10:20when they were kids. So why are we fighting? I thought the flashback
- 10:24here and it's one of my favorite moments. I'll spoil it now. I
- 10:26just thought it was just it was lovely. It was really sweet, wasn't
- 10:30it. And I think the thing of it is, with real life,
- 10:33you don't necessarily you can't necessarily call up the most important memories of your life
- 10:39or the most significant ones when it comes to the ones who who love you,
- 10:43who you've loved, who raised you, all that kind of stuff.
- 10:45Yeah, they'll just sort of they'll come to you unbidden, although will you
- 10:48know something will trigger them. It's like, oh, my god, hadn't
- 10:50thought about that in ten years, twenty years, thirty years, whatever,
- 10:54But all of a sudden it comes back, and it comes back incredibly vividly.
- 10:56I wholly bought what you're talking about here. How you know, And
- 11:03at a moment when you least expect it, or maybe even when you most
- 11:05need it, it's going to come back like, oh oh yeah that happened.
- 11:09Oh and suddenly your heart, your heart just expands. Well, they
- 11:13say that when your life slashing before your eyes, when you think you're going
- 11:16to die, that all the key moments from like the important moments of your
- 11:18life to somehow just come back to you. And I thought it was just
- 11:20very nice that in that moment he thought of Grandpa. It was just Abe.
- 11:24Yeah, it was just Abe. And I mean, well, I
- 11:28guess it's because he saw that he was he thought his dad was coming to
- 11:30save me. He's like dad, Dad, Dad's and Dad was on his
- 11:31mind when he when he passed out there. But also I think the episode
- 11:35did a really good job of finally giving Grandpa the character so much needed respect
- 11:39that the character has been lacking for a good couple of seasons now. He's
- 11:43just been a real pathetic, unwanted, unloved old man. That's big.
- 11:46That's sort of big. That's sort of who he's become. I know that
- 11:50was the gag throughout the entire round of the show, but it's become more
- 11:52harsh in recent years, I thought. And they did a good job last
- 11:56week with the Simpson's Christmas stories with Abe, with his war story with Burns,
- 12:00this one in particular, this one being a cannon one. I thought
- 12:01they did a good job of finally given him some respect again. Yeah you
- 12:05have to. You know, remember that this was a young guy, so
- 12:09this was a man. Oh it still is, but you know what I
- 12:11mean, They've lived a whole life and it's not always going to be I'm
- 12:15shooting by the bins. I can talk to people or something like that,
- 12:18and there's going to be more stories and a little respect should be given,
- 12:22but of course, you know, you can balance that with the ridiculousness that
- 12:26Abe sometimes shows. Hey, my favorite all right, what were your favorite
- 12:31moments from the episode, mister Davis. There are a lot, actually,
- 12:35and they were sort of started all the way through just you know, no,
- 12:37it had a really solid story, but they were but, as is
- 12:41the case with a lot of my favorite Sens episodes, just little bits thrown
- 12:43in here and there that don't necessarily add another brick to the to the overall
- 12:48structure. But you know, just I don't know, I don't knowice a
- 12:50bit of decoration. I really got to kick it out of when Marge is
- 12:54approaching the toll booth for the first time, because you know, she's normally
- 12:58taken the old Cheat Cheek skate trail, which is not normally It's just that
- 13:03she normally takes that road that doesn't have the toll. Yes, that's correct,
- 13:07Sorry, my mistake. That's good advice to people. Always take the
- 13:11old Chief skate trail. That's where that's one guy does UM. But you're
- 13:15approaching the toll booth and I don't know if it was a direct shout out
- 13:18to Um, to Psycho, to the original Psycho, the Alfred Hitchcock movie,
- 13:22but there's a whole do do do. It reminded me very much of
- 13:26a scene in Psycho where Janet Lee is she stole a bunch of money and
- 13:30she's driving and she's sort of like worried about everything. I think she gets
- 13:33pulled over by a cop. But it's got the same sort of visual schematic
- 13:37and the same definitely the same sort of music. I mean, going over
- 13:41the tire, Yeah, she's going over them what do they call the spy?
- 13:46Yeah. I thought it was really good directing by It might be Anderson
- 13:48and that one. Yeah, there really was. Yeah, the music as
- 13:50well. You're right, it does feel like a Hitchcock ass scene. Yeah.
- 13:54Yeah, they're sort of ramping up the tensions. Oh, I thought
- 13:56that was great. Um, the whole you know, inciting incidents go.
- 14:01You know, we talk a lot about incarting into the first five to ten
- 14:03minutes of the episode where it's like all this sets the story in motion for
- 14:07you know, all this to happen. I mean, this felt. I
- 14:11think there have been occasions will be like this is a bit convoluted to get
- 14:15to, you know, to the meat of the story. But yeah,
- 14:18Okay, there's a toll booth. Okay, there's tire spies been set up.
- 14:22Okay, Marge refuses to pay, actually backs up. Everybody blows a
- 14:26tire. The tire fire just gets bigger than ever ever has before. It
- 14:31melts the ice on spring on Mount Springfield, and he's a frozen postman and
- 14:35here's a letter. So that was a lot of work, but it didn't
- 14:37feel like a lot of one and didn't it didn't feel like a waste of
- 14:41time either, did it. No, No, I mean that that whole
- 14:45Yeah, first, a few minutes I have over the minutes of the episode
- 14:48just would have zipped by pretty nicely. And yeah, by the end,
- 14:52it was like he's a frozen postman with a bag of letters from the sixties,
- 14:56Like okay, cool, yeah, lett let's get it on. And
- 14:58that's a the story that they started with though, like because a native had
- 15:03been recently unfrozen and from like a long, long, long long time ago,
- 15:07and they found the body in ice in Sino Man and they're like,
- 15:11all right, so this would be a cool story. Male man gets discovered
- 15:13he's got letters for the people of spring for the one. That's a fun
- 15:15concept, how to be getting really right. Yeah, I just thought the
- 15:18way they got to it, it actually kind of ties into the story.
- 15:20If you want to pull out some straws, is that it emphasizes that the
- 15:24Simpsons don't really have that much money, which is by March doesn't want to
- 15:26pay the seventy five cents, and then they meet and then all of a
- 15:30sudden, Home has got a rich father. I don't know, if you
- 15:31want to find it try and work it all together, but I just think
- 15:33it was just a fun way to get to the main story. Anyway,
- 15:35speaking of new rich relative or something, I really dug about this episode.
- 15:41One of my favorite moments was there when they're on the boat. On Mason's
- 15:43boat was called the sun I never handled, Yes, son, I never
- 15:48knew I hid or something. Yeah. Yeah, and yes, everyone is
- 15:52basically wearing sailor hats. I've got to give a shout out to the Lovely
- 15:56Luis. Not long ago, we were watching a documentary. This may sound
- 16:00like a very tenuous link, but stay with me, folks, say,
- 16:04Lovely Louis and I were watching a documentary on yacht rock, that wonderful genre
- 16:11of music. We'll kind of take it with the story of Captain and Tnil,
- 16:15the seventies duo who sang love will keep Us Together. You mentioned this
- 16:18because we did that episode of The Simpsons where they sing the song at the
- 16:22end. Margin Homer, you've mentioned that, Yeah, that's and we both
- 16:26enjoyed the episode so much, and particularly Captain Sneil that when Lou went away
- 16:30on a girl's weekend to a seaside town, she came back with a lovely
- 16:34gift for me, which was this, Oh, no ship sailor's hate,
- 16:40I'm wearing us. I'm not. I'm putting it on awkwardly end only only
- 16:47listening to this episode. Yes, I've got a captain's captain's hat on.
- 16:51I will be chuck. I will be chucking a photo of that up on
- 16:52the social media for those of you that art subscribe to some pageant to see
- 16:56this. I'll take a proper picture and send it to Dan. But you're
- 17:00can all see what I look like in my cool hat. He needs your
- 17:02glasses too, Love can keep us together. But honestly, terribly sad story
- 17:07about the Captain to Neil, because you know they saying love will keep us
- 17:10together, and yeah, everyone thought, wow, these two are sort of
- 17:12made for each other. I'm not I'm trying to phrase this the right way,
- 17:17but I think the captain might have been kind of emotionally constipated. He
- 17:22couldn't really I mean they were married captains Neil, but the captain couldn't really
- 17:27sort of. He wasn't a very expressive person. He wasn't very demonstrative when
- 17:32it came to affection or anything like that. Tanil was like, I love
- 17:34you so much, and he's like, yeah, I love you, I
- 17:37know pretty much. So and watching this dark One was like, oh,
- 17:42it's really sad Tanil obviously, just you know, I really wanted to give
- 17:45a heart to this guy. And he was like, yeah, okay,
- 17:48great. Yeah. There's there's some like musical duos where like even though they
- 17:51not in a relationship, like for example, like outon John definitely not in
- 17:52a relationship with KII, but it's like, don't go break in my heart,
- 17:56Like these guys are made for each other or John devoted living in John
- 17:59at the end of Greece. It's like, how are these guys not going
- 18:00to be married forever? Obviously they're best friends for well, yeah, I
- 18:04mean Trolta was clearly sad when the Olivia passed away. Yeah, yeah,
- 18:10but enough about that. More about favorite things. I've got more if you
- 18:12don't need to keep talking to but wait, but wait, there's more.
- 18:17I think one of my favorite visual gags was when home is having that fantasy
- 18:21about though this dad, you know, I don't know who my real dad
- 18:23is, has this childhood flashback where he's throwing them the baseball with the questions
- 18:29the window and an exclamation come back. That's pretty neat. That's clever.
- 18:34That was. That was Mike Rees apparently pitched that one. Yeah, that's
- 18:38a really plus. Again the Simpsons guys showing their deepockets. It's like,
- 18:44hey, let's, uh, you know, get the rights to Cindy Lauper's
- 18:47Time after time not going cheap, I imagine, and use it for maybe
- 18:51five seconds and ring a fire. That's true. Yeah. I also got
- 18:53some Johnny Cash in there. Oh my god, look too. Dialogue shout
- 19:00outs. One that is clearly Michael York. I just loved his whoa yeah,
- 19:04taken off of Homers. Yep, that's fantastic. But then I'm guessing
- 19:08it's Dan c doing Michael York Homer please do that in the loop. That
- 19:15is my favorite moment, omma, please do that in the loop. It's
- 19:19like, what was he doing? What was he doing? Firstly and where
- 19:23was he doing? It? All just funny. The mental image you get
- 19:30is funny. Um, the voice that Dan is doing is very, very
- 19:34funny. But then you just think about the Amazon fairback says like just a
- 19:40mench so it sounds like a good dude, like, don't shoot at my
- 19:41floor, please please please do that in the loop. Yeah, so what
- 19:48a lord? Yeah, so much good stuff in this episode. Yeah,
- 19:52I really like Oportunity Coup. But enough about my favorite moments. What were
- 19:56yours, Dando, Well, you've pitched a couple of mine, and I've
- 19:59already mentioned the flashback. Of the flashback was lovely, But the other one
- 20:02that I really enjoyed was I infer from all your knicknacks that you're some kind
- 20:06of fruitcake. Sometimes you go to someone's house and it's like there's a bunch
- 20:11of crazy crap on the walls. I do like it when Home was like
- 20:17that as well. I mean, you know, I don't judging, you
- 20:21know, Yeah, I think we've gotten so used to and being kind of
- 20:25a dumb ass. Yeah, just an idiot. That when he does a
- 20:27moment that's kind of our BUNDI is like this, you know where he's got.
- 20:32He's clearly got a little bit of comments or I mean, or maybe
- 20:34it's just thoughtless nose. I don't know, but it sounds like, Okay,
- 20:37you got this really nice house and a lot of stuff on the wall.
- 20:40You're not really better than me. I think you might be kind of
- 20:41a weirdo. So I feel your gut some kind of a fruitcake that was.
- 20:47Yeah, that's great, that's a great luck. But yeah, we
- 20:49won't go into too much. I have more, but I feel it's gonna
- 20:52go through the whole episode of keeps out favorite moment. This whole episode is
- 20:55like favorite moment. It's not lovely to have a season seventeen episode, but
- 20:56we're just so happy about any more brain busters. It's the blockbuster brainbuster for
- 21:07Homer's paternity coot. The air date was January eighth, two thousand and six.
- 21:11Now mister Davids's got the similar one still in the in the top three,
- 21:15so number one is still the Chronicles of Narnia line, of which in
- 21:17the wardrobe. Number two is King Kong. But I am going to get
- 21:21you try and guests number three, number three, the clue is penis.
- 21:26M hang on you you might be talking about a slang term for a penis
- 21:32though, right, so it's not it's not Willy Wonka, and it's not
- 21:37and it's not prick up. It's not prick up your ears, which came
- 21:40out like twenty years earlier. He's another clue masturbating. Well. I mean,
- 21:49there are certain things you can do with your dick, and one of
- 21:52them one of them is have fun. And you know, if you're a
- 21:56fan of maybe you say Jane Fonder, you can usually be thinking about Jane
- 22:00Fonder while you're having fun with your dick' I think it might be fun with
- 22:03Dick and Jane starring Jim Carrey and m one of guys Hall Pass ladies,
- 22:10Taylione. She was one of those women who I never knew her name when
- 22:12I was a kid, but I had the biggest crush on her as an
- 22:15actress. I was like, this woman is gorgeous. It is one of
- 22:18the abiding mysteries of the late nineties through to whenever. It's like, why
- 22:26did Taylor It become a biggest star? Yeah, I still remember when I
- 22:32was a kid and the movie it was The Family Man, I think,
- 22:33starring Nicholas Cage. There's a scene where he walks in her in the shower
- 22:37and I was just like, she is incredible. Yeah, she's singing along
- 22:41to something. She's just playing a house mum and it's just like, oh
- 22:45my god. She say sexy. Oh yeah, I know was creepy,
- 22:49but I was just she was like, besides Drew Barrenmore, she was my
- 22:52crush when I was a kid. I thought she was just amazing. Yes,
- 22:56we're a team Tayer here at four Finger Discount. We have very pro
- 23:00Taleoni. I remember that movie being a lot of fun. Actually when I
- 23:03went to the movies. I've not seen it since I first watched it the
- 23:04movies. Might have been on a date with one of my girlfriends at the
- 23:07time, but I just remember thinking this, maybe it's fun. I mean,
- 23:10I like, yeah, I like Jim Carrey. Yeah, well this
- 23:12is a yeah, but perfectly fun. I don't know if you call it
- 23:18even an action comedy, more a comedy, but remake of a seventies movie.
- 23:21But Dick and Jane, you know, sort of upper middle class types
- 23:26who have been hit hard by the by inflation by the rising cost of living,
- 23:30can't afford their swanky laughstyle anymore, and decide to I think rob banks,
- 23:37or at least rob their their dodgy former employers that like getting you know,
- 23:41multinationals or whatever. So taking a stand against it's the one percent taking
- 23:45a stand against the point zero zero one percent to get some of their money.
- 23:49Um yeah, perfectly, perfectly good fun. And of course it's got
- 23:53some Talione in it. So oh yeah, by the way, I actually
- 23:57big mistake here. I've just realized that it was uber three last week.
- 24:00I'm looking at the last week because there wasn't an episode of The Simpsons last
- 24:03week, right, so that was actually number four for this week and number
- 24:06one. So Chronicles Nue is two, King Kong's number three. Number one's
- 24:08actually a newbie so much just trying to give a clue. Think of So
- 24:12the scene that I remember the most from this involves and Achilles heel. Oh,
- 24:18well, yeah, I do know this because there are three things.
- 24:26Three parts of the body where I cannot hack trauma, one of his fingernails.
- 24:30There's a third which is probably related to what we were just talking about,
- 24:33fun with you know what. But yeah, Achilles tendon is Oh yeah,
- 24:41I mean we all remember evil little Gauge from pet Semetry going buck wild
- 24:47with a scalpel on that old dude's achilles tendon. But in a more recent
- 24:52version of it, it happened in Eli Roth's Hostel. Yeah, horrifying,
- 24:56horrifying, Narlieass movie. I've been just torch upon. Essentially, it's it's
- 25:03kind of what kickstarted the whole. I think this is the movie that a
- 25:07critic coined the phrase torch upon to describe now as. Yeah, it's it's
- 25:12very nasty, but at the same time it is pretty well made nasty.
- 25:17I mean, if you'd like horror movies and you like particularly graphic horror movies,
- 25:21this is kind of a good example of it. I mean, because
- 25:23it's somewhat believable that this could actually happen. It's it's a it's a fantastic
- 25:29setup essentially that dopey American tourists go to Europe thing. It's America number one.
- 25:36We're going to run wild in Europe and you know these guys, you
- 25:38know, they take drugs and have sex with the druver have, but we're
- 25:41going to do it American style and there is. Yeah, guess what we're
- 25:45going to rope you into, um a dreadful situation whereby tourists can turn you
- 25:52into human pinatas or pincushions or you know, just have dreadful, dreadful fund
- 25:57with your exposed Achilles tendon. Ye, not great, not great, but
- 26:02that was number one box office when this episode. Add Our American friends know
- 26:07what they like. They just like torture porn. Yes, torture porn or
- 26:10fun with Dick, both go hand in hand. Next question, you're there
- 26:15eating the beast. All right, mister Davis, it is time for some
- 26:18trivia for homos Paternity Cooper. Before we do that, we of course need
- 26:22to read out some names of those who support us here at the four Finger

- 27:12no, thank you. You're gonna be my kids forever. Welcome to
- 27:15the wonder years. Pickle. Yes, make sure you look after your mum
- 27:19and be nice to ear and don't be a shitty teenager. It's gonna happen.
- 27:22You're gonna be a shitty teenager, but yeah, try to mitigate it
- 27:26a little bit. Beatless. Yes, a happy birthday, buddy, and
- 27:27he's a big support. He really enjoys the show, so thank you so

- 28:27We love them noe with mister Davis, We do indeed, Welcome to the
- 28:30clan, and thank you for the de Niro exactly right, all right,
- 28:34Hit me with your first question for Homer's paternity court. What have we got?
- 28:38The grandfather clock from the firesale shop goes for How much are two dollars?
- 28:45Always get out? There're I loved that opening, by the way.
- 28:49That was pretty. Boxes and boxes of you figure it out action, figure
- 28:56a poddle what we think was a microway. My first question for you is
- 29:02who will Marge be married to in twenty eleven? This is a couch gag
- 29:07question. Oh um, that went really quickly. It was Lenny or no
- 29:12Lenny, and then he wasn't twenty eleven. It was Lenny, then Lenny,
- 29:17then it was Jimbo. Jimbo what one? Yeah, that's right.
- 29:22My next question to you, you can smell the Springfield tie fire in how
- 29:26many states? Forty six four six? Correct? What is Homer's fake radio
- 29:33station. But he's on what one? He is a nine eighty FM.
- 29:38His viewers are very happy about that nine eighty on the AM dial. I
- 29:41said AM, didn't it? He said FM just then? But maybe it
- 29:45was just the zoom fucking up. I meant AM nine eighty AM. Yes,
- 29:48yes, And his viewers are very happy about that. Exactly right,
- 29:52all right? And my final quote, actually, your next question, I'll
- 29:56give you one. Yes, how do you do that? What is may
- 30:00Yon's hat size? Six? Six more than average? And my final question
- 30:04is William H. Macy, who had a really good appearance here. Actually
- 30:07a little story about William H. Macy. We'll get to it when it's
- 30:10at one time of the episode. But so he's going to be working with
- 30:12who? Well, he does say, he says, do you know Nev
- 30:15Campbell? So I'm assuming he's gonna be doing something with Nev Campbell. Yeah,
- 30:19we can talk about that when we get to that. But he was
- 30:22actually in a movie with Nev Campbell. What movie was that? It was
- 30:25a low budget but really really really good movie, a little low budget one
- 30:29that I tend to champion a lot called Panic. It actually came out in
- 30:32two thousand. Okay, so it was before this episode, all right,
- 30:34Yeah, but you know, he may well have done something else with her,
- 30:38and he was actually talking up independent films in that scene as well.
- 30:41He did yeah, what I liked, let's do it now, rather than
- 30:45yeah, let's do it what I liked that. He was really good casting
- 30:51to be what was it called the Bullies Circle or Bullies second bait. Don't
- 30:53know how yeah, the Bullies Show or the Bullies Circle whatever, But do
- 30:56you want to hear how it all came to be? So apparently five years
- 30:57prior at the Golden Globes, they really wanted to Williams Masy to be on
- 31:02the shows. Like four different members across of the Simpsons staff across the night
- 31:04went up to him and say, hey, you should really be on the
- 31:07Simpsons, and he apparently by the last one he was like, yes,
- 31:08I know, I heard you the first time. Just contact my agent,
- 31:11will make it happen. And then they didn't do it for like five years,
- 31:12and then he came on the show and he was just willing to say
- 31:15whatever, And I just thought it was just perfect riding and casting. But
- 31:18yeah, that's how it all came about. So yeah, continue, I
- 31:21just think it's really good casting because, yeah, Wis Macy, I was
- 31:23a nominated actor, a quote unquote star. Yeah, everyone knows everyone knows
- 31:29him. Yeah. Yeah. He also kind of looks like a dork.
- 31:33Yeah, I mean I think is it Boogie Nights where he's a cuck always
- 31:37wife's yeah, Yeah, Yeah, he's very he's very cucked. He's super
- 31:41cucked. Yeah. He kind of looked like the guy who would get bullied.
- 31:47Yea. But also, even though he's reportedly kind of buff and also
- 31:52a guy who you just like, you feel like if you're fucked with him,
- 31:55he could probably fuck you up in ways he don't expect. He has
- 32:00one of my greatest lines of tough guy dialogue and it's and it's great because
- 32:05he don't expect to come from William Ates Macy. He was. He worked
- 32:07with David Mammitt, a loot, one of my favorite creators, the great
- 32:12playwright, filmmaker, all that kind of stuff. And he's in a movie
- 32:15called Homicide with our our man, Joe Montenna, and you know, they're
- 32:21cop partners, and someone says something to insult Joe Montanna, and you know,
- 32:25Macy sort of stands up for him, and this guy says, you
- 32:30want to step outside, and may you want to fucking step outside for a
- 32:32killer ass right here. So it's like he doesn't he doesn't look like the
- 32:39kind of guy who'd fuck you up like that. But I mean, you
- 32:42look at him in the eyes. God shit, he'll fucking do it.
- 32:49I he's probably really tough. You look at some of black professional fighters,
- 32:55they're not like huge, huge guys. It's all about the technique, absolutely,
- 33:00yeah. I mean that's the thing. I think if you're sort of
- 33:01bumped into, like Conor McGregor at a bar or something, you're trying to
- 33:07funk with your little leprechorn, the next thing you know, yeah, you're
- 33:10dead. Tony Saparo, Yeah, stop, all right. I think that's
- 33:21it for Trivia. The four Figure Discount Network is brought to you by our

- 34:04visional air date of Homer's Paternity Coot was January eighth, two thousand and six.
- 34:07Written by Joel H. Cohen, directed by our man Mike B Anderson,
- 34:09chalkboard gag and I want to discussed the intro in the chalkboll gagie.
- 34:13So I thought the chopboard gag was one that I was surprised has never been
- 34:15used before. And I thought it just felt like a very early season Simpsons
- 34:20chalk gag. It's just simply, I am not smarter than the president.
- 34:23But that's just it just felt like a very early nineties bart. You know,
- 34:27I will not waste chalk that kind of thing. You know, I
- 34:29am not smart than the president. Yeah, it felt quite simple. I
- 34:31thought, it's a surprise it took him seventeen seasons to get that one out.
- 34:35There. But also the Cotch gag was one we discussed earlier with the
- 34:37photographs, and it says the year at the top, and it goes through
- 34:39all the different years up to twenty and thirteen March. She's married to to
- 34:43Lenny and then she becomes kyl and then she becomes married to Jimbo and then
- 34:46she thinks she's married to a robot Homer or something like that. But yeah,
- 34:51and also in the intro, the thing I wanted to bring up was
- 34:53that they did a really weird edit that I can't record. They've done before,
- 34:57so we're so used to it now, where they just the Simpsons and
- 35:00it cuts the straight into the driveway but home is about to be run over
- 35:04with someone kind of plays not the full length of the of the intro,
- 35:07but it goes from where it would normally cut to Bart riding his skateboard in
- 35:12front of all those people and then Marge. It just completely edits out the
- 35:15Bart part and just cuts straight to Lisa and then straight to I think it
- 35:20cuts out Homer, then it cuts out Bart and goes straight to Marge driving
- 35:22with Maggie, and it was just a really weird at it. I was
- 35:23like Oh, you've included like an extra five seconds of the intro that you
- 35:27normally wouldn't. For what reason, I don't know. It just felt weird.
- 35:30If anyone that Simpsons HQ has a reason for this, you know,
- 35:35justify your actions. They were sent back the gift of nerd. By the
- 35:42way, the T shirt I am wearing does say genius at work. But
- 35:46the episode kicks off with I think it's just Marge and Lisa actually just watching
- 35:50the ad for the smoke damage outlet store and you know, boxes and boxes
- 35:54if you figure it out, and smoking Joe Fraziers well who playing himself,
- 35:58He was actually smoking Joe. That's what I'm in another great they who only
- 36:02got me here because my name has smoking in it. No, that's not
- 36:05true, smokeing Joe. I can send people to your house, bad people,
- 36:10bad people. I wish I had that power, just you know,
- 36:15with a note, push a few buttons, I can send someone to someone's
- 36:16house to fuck you up. I think we all like to threaten that at
- 36:21some point. I think we've all at one point there lives gone. You
- 36:22know, I've got powers who can fuck you up? It's like, how
- 36:24bet you just do it? Yourself. It's like I can't, but I've
- 36:27got powers. Who can. I think the idea of having a connection of
- 36:31some kind, I think it would be nice because I've never had this at
- 36:36all, never will, but to have someone say about you behind your back,
- 36:42oh, you know, just to have a guy's not the guy to
- 36:44fuck with? Yeah, a John Wick moment. Yes, you get this
- 36:49car out of here. You're fuck with guy. Jesus Christ. What an
- 36:52idiot? And I don't never happen because no one ever fuck with you.
- 36:58Well, that's true. It's like I'm just unlockable that no one's going to
- 37:01do it anyway. Yes, oh my god. Everything we own is in
- 37:07that house. How often have you driven by a fire and thought how can
- 37:10this benefit me? Well, think no more and drive on down to the
- 37:14smoke damage outlet store. Where there's smoke, there's bargains. We've got fire
- 37:17damage furniture, smoke damage smoke detector's action figure, puddle, something we think
- 37:22was an air conditioner, and boxes and boxes of you figure it out.
- 37:27Come in today and meet smoking Joe Frazier. I'm only yeah because my name
- 37:31has smoke, and oh, come on, that has nothing to do with
- 37:35its smoking, Joe, I can send people to your house. Bad people
- 37:42come in. We're going to that store before the next commercial makes me do
- 37:45something else, buy the suit off my back only nine five stop dropping?
- 37:51See And then she's driving nam and I noticed that it's a toll fee as
- 38:00a toll sign. What the hell is she never noticed this before? And
- 38:01she's a good nurdicer. Indeed, Sorry, can we just worry one for
- 38:05one second? Because I love the spokesman for the or the sprooker for the
- 38:09for the shops that stop dropping, say, he's really just trying to put
- 38:14himself out more and more death. But that was great, And there are
- 38:19some gags, and this just went on. They felt like they could have
- 38:22gone on a little bit long, but actually the timing on them was just
- 38:23right, or the timing on them was actually kind of exquisite. I thought
- 38:27that was one. This one was like on the verge of being too long.
- 38:30That's just like, oh, nope, you ended it good. Yeah
- 38:31you did a j It was like, oh, you almost at stage,
- 38:35you're welcome, but you didn't ye later on with the fan and all that
- 38:37kind of like, oh, you've got some very deliberate pacing here that he'll
- 38:39be like, I don't know about this, but it was like, no,
- 38:42actually that works, nice work, Mike b Anderson. And she says,
- 38:45what's next to Spatula attacks? And then she finds the old cheapskate trail
- 38:50so she goes down there and Lenny and Carl follow her as well. Why
- 38:52a Lenny and Car not like each other now, Like it's like their friends,
- 38:55but Car doesn't want to be his friends. I hope they get rid
- 38:59of this vibe soon because I'm not a fan of it. Yeah, it's
- 39:00starting to get a little Oh they're codependent or you know, Lenny so needy?
- 39:07Yeah, yeah, Cars, Like it was almost like Car doesn't want
- 39:09him around anymore. I'm like, no, no, no, letting Carl
- 39:12the best buds. That is true. I mean, it's nice to have
- 39:15the odd gag like that, but you need to sprinkle it in every once
- 39:20in a while. It's like, oh, I hope everything's okay with letting
- 39:22a Carl, But yeah, if you do it all the time, it's
- 39:23like, well, why are they even still laying it out? Yeah?
- 39:25Exactly. But then they quimby notices here like no one's using the toll booth,
- 39:31sees the guy a sleepwriding playbooth. I thought it was very funny.
- 39:35And he says they need the money to d python the town fountain, so
- 39:37he tells Wickham to go go sort of out. I got it. No,
- 39:44that turned like those two words mean shit's about to go down. Oh
- 39:47yeah, if someone said to you go do this, no survivors. But
- 39:52I don't think I'm the man for the job. I just don't think I
- 39:54could take a wife. I'm I'm kind of pro survival. Yeah, yeah,
- 40:01I'm saving ants out of the sync. I don't think I'm the man
- 40:04for the job. Yeah, I'm the man who's, you know, coming
- 40:06up with elaborate traps for spiders and setting them back into the antside vice.
- 40:13He's going into the fireplace and it's the next day he Marge's realized that she's
- 40:16been boxed in. This is how it feels driving to Melbourne at the moment
- 40:20from Geelong. You know, you've got all the roadworks and it's just big
- 40:22cement walls just all over the place. It's like, oh man, I'm
- 40:24going to drive straight. But he pays so much attention to it's like it
- 40:28feels like you veered slightly to the right, he's gonna scrash the side of
- 40:30your carl on this concrete slab. I hope you felt suitably confident in the
- 40:34passenger seat yesterday. Yeah. Well, we didn't go that way. Better
- 40:37gone the other way. It would have been scared. You know, we
- 40:39had big trucks next to us at some stage, and you know, I
- 40:42was blearing John Carpenter, you know tunes. There was one point you had
- 40:45your phone up in the air at this trying to read Google Maps and dry
- 40:49at the same time, and you're viewing into the left land. I'm like,
- 40:51you know badly we keep going this way? Absolutely not? But yeah,
- 40:59so basically Marge's boxed in and she got the tire spikes. And I
- 41:01would hate this. I hate it when you've you've gone somewhere and then you've
- 41:06realized you've gone a little bit too far and you can't go back. It's
- 41:07like, ah fuck. They do it with the boozebusters. Obviously I never
- 41:10drink and drive, but it's like they're going to a corner and it's like
- 41:14imagine being a drunk going around. They're like there's nobody go oh no,
- 41:16what am I gonna do? Exactly? They should be doing obviously, So
- 41:21this is you know, Reverend love Joy and Helen loved Joy realized they're boxing
- 41:23as well, but don't wrote this one's on Jesus. Jesus toy. I've
- 41:27never had a little toy like that in my car, at the little bubble
- 41:29head things when I feel like it's been a major distraction for me something.
- 41:32I never had it in my car, but when I was growing up and
- 41:37when I you know, in my teens or something. I know, yeah,
- 41:39I've seen on the show before. I'm not a big believer in the
- 41:43Man upstairs or is one Begotten song. But I've found in our house a
- 41:49little green glow in the dark Jesus statue, not very tall, probably you
- 41:54know about I know, four or five inches tall. And I had this
- 41:59sort of sickly green glow in the dark thing. And I mean I was
- 42:01too old for a nightlight. I was not scared of the dark or anything
- 42:05like that, but I still like, this looks kind of cool to have
- 42:09in the dark next to my bed. So I had it there for I
- 42:13think it in the car. No, no, no, I I wasn't
- 42:15in the car. I've never had it in the car, but it was
- 42:17next to my bed for like four or five years. Wow, and how
- 42:22are you? That was probably like thirteen or fourteen. I was there.
- 42:24It was there till I was about seventeen or so. And not because like
- 42:29you see me Jesus from the Dirk or anything like that. It was more
- 42:31like, at least it was cool. I like a little green glow in
- 42:35the in the night. Yeah, aboue. For me, my nightlight was
- 42:38listening to Simpson's audio commentaries and just old reruns of Simpsons episodes. Just the
- 42:43television was my nightlight. I just went I was one of those kids that
- 42:45went to bed with the TV on every night. Well likewise likewise, and
- 42:50were you when you got a TV in your room for the first time.
- 42:52I'm at that moment now we're with Ali. I'm like, how old do
- 42:54I have to wait until it's a TV? You know? Oh? No,
- 42:57I was in my I was in double figures. I was like six,
- 43:00right, memories of playing NHL ninety four in my bedroom, So that
- 43:05would have come out like ninety ninety five. I would have been six or
- 43:07seven. Yeah, yeah, I would have been maybe twelve or thirteen.
- 43:10And you know, I found like this there was an old black and white
- 43:15TV that was either we found somewhere or whatever, like, oh, I'm
- 43:20getting this. And you know, I didn't have like an aerial thing in
- 43:22the room or anything like that, so I'd had the really showing how old
- 43:27I am. I had a little bunny air antennas like the Simpsons. Yeah.
- 43:30Yeah, and even to the point where I was putting aluminium on the
- 43:36very tips. It's like, oh, this will help me pick up cattle
- 43:38nine no whatever. That was the modern day booster, it really was.
- 43:45But yeah, I was having to do a lot of you know, fine
- 43:46tune. He was like static, Oh I've got Channel seven. Oh,
- 43:51time to watch you know the eighteen. What was that reviewer that used to
- 43:54like when you were younger, the Aussie movie guy Ivan Hutchinson. What what
- 44:01was he on Channel seven? He was seven? He was a seven guy.
- 44:05Yeah, I don't think Channel nine had a movie guy. Channel ten
- 44:07had a guy named Bill Collins, and he's sort of like, yes,
- 44:10he was well known. Yeah, he was a very kind of welcome to
- 44:14the old and yeah he was a big old dorg but smart and also just
- 44:21you know for film neards of my of my vintage. He was like well,
- 44:23tonight we're watching a couple of old classics. I'm like, some of
- 44:27these looks shit, but oh, actually Bill's talking this one up. Maybe
- 44:30I'll give it a well And I know I've got so many good titles from
- 44:34watching that. But Ivan Hutchinson was on seven slightly more sophisticated, a bit
- 44:37more bit more urbane. I was like, my Bill guy or an Ivan
- 44:42guy. I'm an Ivan guy. Yeah, I told you I think I
- 44:45write. I'd wrote him a letter. Did you know I was a kid?
- 44:47Yeah? Yeah, because I was like Avon Hutchinson, just show the
- 44:52impass Jake's back and here's my review. It was really good. But hey,
- 44:54don't don't let anyone to you this Burley. He's like, why are
- 44:59you talking about that? I'm like home at the end of this episode,
- 45:01Daddy, I knew you that was one of my favorite games. You're eighteen
- 45:05when you wrote this letter. But he wrote back, he said, thank
- 45:12you for your review. That sounds like a great movie. I can't wait
- 45:15to see it. He'd already seen it. Like what a good guy.
- 45:20So yeah, shout out to Ivan Hutchinson. If you want to get on
- 45:23YouTube, you're type in his name. You might be able to find some
- 45:27of his um some of the stuff he did for Tea there. Well,
- 45:29our patrons would be well aware of his intro theme music because we music for
- 45:30the movie Guy podcast. Correct. Yeah, yeah, I thought that was
- 45:35one little little callback to guys our vintage, very vintage. But getting back
- 45:43to my mobileo mobile, getting back to the episodes, Yeah, somehow I
- 45:45got from Reverend using Jesus money to that. Don't know we got that,
- 45:52Yeah that's right, Yeah, little little glowing Jesus night like equals TV blah
- 45:55blah blah, but I did like revn loved Joyce Jesus like, I'm very
- 46:00disappointed you're taking my money to pay this toll. I'll be cool for once.
- 46:05And then we get the really good moment that we're discussing earlier with Marge
- 46:07driving over the spikes. Yeah yeah, it's just really, really, really
- 46:10well directed, and you know today seventy five cents in five years eighty electoral
- 46:16outcomepending. And then they get she says not going to pay it, so
- 46:22she reverses and she pops everyone's ties. I'm like, we never actually see
- 46:25Marge get reprimanded for this. Surely she has to cop the fine right absolute
- 46:30mayhem. And the thing too is Spifford only has one road to get out
- 46:37to places like why is everyone driving down this road? Now that's a really
- 46:40good point. Maybe they really want to go to the outlet fire. True,
- 46:45it's it's it's one. I choose not to explore too much because you
- 46:47pull it that thread everything unravels. Yes, but yes, so she pops
- 46:52everyone's tires and we get Ring of Fire before then, though, can't be
- 46:55a season seventeen episod without some side show. Now we'll get at mister Davis.
- 46:59Unfortunately, no, but the prophecy is fulfilled, as he points out,
- 47:02and then Agnes. I think Agnes gets two moments in this episode,
- 47:05doesn't she Yeah, she does a good one a bit later on. What
- 47:08does she say here? Say you have four of anything? But I thought
- 47:12the next one, the next one was really good luck later in the episode
- 47:15with the radio, but this is where they played Ring of Fire and they
- 47:17change all the tires. Has had the tires on the tire fire and all
- 47:21the extra smoke causes the ice to melt, and we discover a mailman from
- 47:24the sixties, Ken Brockman. Here a top mount Springfield, where the melting
- 47:30ice cap has revealed a discovery so gruesome, we'll give you a moment to
- 47:32get the children out of the room. That's long enough. Here it is
- 47:36a frozen mailman, somehow buried in ice several decades ago. For further analysis,
- 47:42here's the one scientist who is always home when we call Professor John Frank.
- 47:45Based on the ice core samples and the size of the mailman's bell bottoms
- 47:52left measure that there, we had determined he was frozen. Sometime in the
- 47:55nineteen sixties swinging for Alex For me, I was making Nay Farm to drop
- 48:02on to nine. The post officers promised to deliver every letter in this forty
- 48:07year old mail bag. Sorry, I'm just you've just can I throw in
- 48:12another anecdote? Sorry, just reminded of my sub editing days at the paper
- 48:19down here in sunny Geelong, The Gelong Advertiser. I believe listeners to the
- 48:22show you're all clean living types, you don't exactly know what a nang is,
- 48:25or maybe our international listeners a going what's a nang? It's like I
- 48:29didn't know what a name is. Oh, it's a little tube of compressed
- 48:34something like nitrous or something. But you know, yeah, sucking you get
- 48:38high. Yeah, but it's called a nang apparently that's a street name for
- 48:44it. And it's a bit like it's a bit like cheapass vaping. And
- 48:49of course there were you know, in Geelong we have a place called Market
- 48:52Square or the Market Square Mall that is supposedly the you know, the center
- 48:57town. The foreign that's whether you link me to get together really knows.
- 49:00It was once it's a crack, then it's where you don't go m And
- 49:07as befitting a place like that, there were little nang canisters left all over
- 49:12the place. Some people done when people were done getting high. And of
- 49:15course city hall decided to go up against this and you know, maybe take
- 49:19action against it. And the headliner wrote for it was called Battle of de
- 49:22Nang. That's actually pretty good. It was good. I don't think we
- 49:27use it. At the end. I'm like, oh, man, come
- 49:29on, that's gold, Come on, man, be cool. For once.
- 49:32It's like getting on the phone to Rippert Murdoch. Come on man.
- 49:37But yeah, again, of the various towns, people are getting some of
- 49:39their letters. So Largo would have got to Juilliard and he shattered about that,
- 49:44and we get mo he finds out he's not alleged to Poland. So
- 49:45he goes and plays with some kids in the park and some skipping. Then
- 49:49this here does. That's the one gag that goes a little too long.
- 49:52It does, yeah, because it doesn't really go anywhere, just slightly.
- 49:54Yeah. I thought. I thought, if he's gonna trip up all something
- 49:58and then blame the kids for it. But no, it's just him dancings
- 50:00like yeah, but he says the rhyme. It's just like that's six words
- 50:05too long. Yeah, definitely. This next bit here didn't quite make sense
- 50:07to me either. So Mason sent a letter to Mona, but he sent
- 50:12it to the Simpsons address. Why would he send it to seven four two
- 50:15Evergreen Terraces in the sixties? Valid point again, don't pull it too many
- 50:19threads. I'm assuming that someone was diligent in the post off and said,
- 50:22well Mona, not anymore. But okay, the next of next of Kim,
- 50:27he's going to be at this address. Drops it off. Yeah,
- 50:31they know it's for Simpsons anyway anyway. But that's why is guy's delivering the
- 50:36mail. I love that, Yeah, ye is Yeah, ran away from
- 50:37all this. Yeah, yeah, what a fool, My dearest Mona.
- 50:44You've just left my arms to return to your husband Abe, and already I
- 50:47ache for you. Mona cheated on me. I don't know how she found
- 50:52the chime with her late night pottery classes and supermarket trips that took all weekend.
- 50:59Lisa, I'm sure that letter is age appropriate reading. What can the
- 51:02government edit our mail like other countries. Oh? I know I'm just a
- 51:08lifeguard, but I want you to run away with me. If you don't
- 51:13reply to this letter, I'll know that you've chosen to stay with Abe.
- 51:16But I know in my heart that the baby you're carrying is mine. Oh
- 51:22love always am. That's ridiculous that with my baby in her belly, look
- 51:28go happy we were what whoa? God reminds me of that mame in the
- 51:36main where it's like, oh yeah, look back at another girl and the
- 51:38guy's like, oh, there's a home. Did I ever show you the
- 51:44Homer version of that? Yes, yeah, there's any one, which of
- 51:49course I loved. Yes. Then Homer says that you know, Grandpa raising
- 51:53he doesn't care what anyone says. Single handled racing. But then he can't
- 51:57think of any nice things he actually did for him. So Lifeguard, huh.
- 52:00We come back from commercial and Hommer trying to think of M. M.
- 52:05Moleman, M Night Sharman, and I think what came out and around
- 52:12two thousand and five that would have caught M. Knight Shamlan so from so
- 52:16much flak. I think was it was it the sequel to Unbreakable? No,
- 52:22no, oh god, that was ten or fifteen years later. This
- 52:24might have been either The Village or Lady in the Water. I thought it
- 52:28was. I thought it was three in there was there was glass, not
- 52:31glass, it was the other one. There's unbreakable glass and split split.
- 52:36Of course it was later, yes, okay, yeah, yeah, but
- 52:37they're all a bit later on. But yeah, because he did six Cents,
- 52:40Unbreakable and Signs and they were all huge, huge hits, and it
- 52:43was like, oh my god, this guy's unstoppable. But then it feels
- 52:45like if you do a twist at the end of every movie, it's just
- 52:47like everyone's just sitting there waiting for the twist then you know. Yeah,
- 52:51and the Village, which I think was around this time. I never saw
- 52:53the waters, never saw it. Yeah, it's getting reappraised of it is
- 53:00years later because twenty years have gone by and now everything, everything crap is
- 53:05gold again. Yeah, but actually it is really good. So but I
- 53:09get the feeling that was probably like, I don't know if this guy is
- 53:13really as good as we thirt he was. No. The thing is about
- 53:15signs is that to me, it was always one of those early early days
- 53:20of the Internet memes where it's like the footage of the alien walking past,
- 53:22get the shit out of everybody. I'm like, god, damn, So
- 53:30I love science. It's one of my it's about to say one of my
- 53:34favorite movies, but it's definitely one's best. Would have been so good.
- 53:38I never would have pitched you for for one of his to beat one of
- 53:42his fans. I would have thought you would have thought his twists were silly.
- 53:45No, No, I mean, you know, twists, if they're
- 53:49done badly suck. If they've done well, they rule, because they they
- 53:52say Mickey had of him in the audio comment chair of this episode, like
- 53:55because because Michael York's like, did he ever file suit for you? Making
- 53:59fun of him here? And he's like they're like, oh well, we
- 54:00can't a suit it. By watching his movies. Ow, yeah, I
- 54:07remember that the big one was always the sixth Sense. There wasn't it,
- 54:10and besides was a big deal. I remember when it came out. Yeah,
- 54:14I think, yeah, I think Signs wasn't even bigger hit than sixth
- 54:15Cents. It was when we all still liked Mel Gibson. Who But anyway,
- 54:23well we up to oh yes, So basically you're trying to think of
- 54:27names. Yeah, shame on, and Grandpa says, no, no,
- 54:29no, you're my son, looking mush up your face and looks exactly the
- 54:30same, and it does, but also does the same thing with the dogs.
- 54:34But then Lisa suggests they do a DNA test and Grandpa says, there's
- 54:37no need. You know, I am his father. I did all the
- 54:40raison. I wake for my apology by the old man bench at them all
- 54:44where it sits by the trash gan and I was like, there's probably people
- 54:46that just do this, and which it's really sad, but you can imagine
- 54:50that there's people that just sit by a pipe bench. No one's gonna be
- 54:52people walking by, so they can hopefully start up A conversation used to happen
- 54:55when I worked in the dally at Cole's. You just get those old customers.
- 55:00It's like, you know, they've got no one to go home too,
- 55:01So if they want to chat for a couple of minutes, I'm just
- 55:02gonna chat for comments. You give you that desperate for your slice chicken,
- 55:06You'll just have to wait for it because this old guy needs someone to talk
- 55:08to you, and I'm going to give them two minutes of my time.
- 55:10I've forgotten exactly where they do it, but I'm I'm guessing there's one of
- 55:15those progressive Scandinavian nations. Yeah, apparently they have like a special aisle in
- 55:20the supermarket whereby it's like, really, this is this is older people who
- 55:25maybe don't have as many people in their lives. You won't have a chat.
- 55:29Be aware that this aisle is going to be slow because you know this
- 55:32the person behind the behind the canter is going to take their time scan very
- 55:37slowly. So are you doing today? You get some male little worst.
- 55:39Okay, that's not bad for you. You might want to go easy on
- 55:42that though, with your heart and all that kind of shit. I thought
- 55:45that's a lovely idea. That's a lovely idea. I mean, Australia has
- 55:49the something different but not dissimilar in terms of love. I'll have hours when
- 55:53you know, the lights will be a little lower and the music will be
- 55:55a little softer for people who are saying you're a their virgent and it's a
- 55:59little different be in a very hectic environment. Like well, it's funny because
- 56:02I saw a video recently. They're talking about supermarket and it's like it's like
- 56:07walking to a billboard. Now it's like so bright and the music's playing and
- 56:09it's just colors and flushes and sales, and it's just like whoa, it's
- 56:13like walking into an advertisement. Yeah, yeah, yeah, but yeah.
- 56:15They apparently have either an hour a day or a certain time a week when
- 56:20it's like we're gonna chill out a little bit, guys. So you know,
- 56:22if you're if you're feeling overstimulated by your normal supermarket environment coming during these
- 56:28hours, yeah, like good on you, good good for thinking. But
- 56:30anyway, Homer, can't you can't sleep as much as you got tummy egg
- 56:34fro those pork chops, No, the onny tummy eggs in my head.
- 56:37And we get the visual of the discussing the question mark throwing the baseball,
- 56:40and then the little question mark throws the ball it's a home or at the
- 56:44question mark, it's home. Homer throws the ball through the window and exclamation
- 56:47might comes out checking his fist. I was like, that's just so genius,
- 56:51that's clever, that's clever. And now at home is at the library,
- 56:53and it's this is such like a cheat way to get to it.
- 56:58But I'm like, whatever, I'm buying it. He goes to the library
- 57:00and finds a book for twentieth century life guards and spriefield. It feels very
- 57:04Simpsons, then, yeah, that just feels like a classic kind of Simpsons
- 57:07gag. Just absurd. But do you want us to spend two minutes coming
- 57:09out of a realistic, good idea or just move the fucking story a lot.
- 57:14He comes up with the only am is Mason Fairbanks, and he's what
- 57:16are these three things that he likes to do? Mister Davis. I love
- 57:20this. I love this so much. He's always a philandering writing letters and
- 57:23make it up for last time. Very good, very well written, this
- 57:31episode, very well written. Yeah, it's I was about as Joel H.
- 57:37Cohen. Yeah, yeah, I think he's got his name on a
- 57:39few good ones. Doesn't he yeah so far. Yes, Yeah, I'm
- 57:43big thumbs up with Joel H. Cohen. And is he the brother of
- 57:46David X. Cohen. Let's have a look. I'm assuming he probably is.
- 57:51I should already know this. I know Simpsons fans. I apologize.
- 57:53He's not Joel Cohen as in the Cohen Brothers who made you know um No
- 57:59Country, Old Man and Fargo and all that stuff. He is different Joel
- 58:02Cohen. Yes, he is the younger brother of one time Simpsons write a
- 58:07Robert Cohen, who penned the season three episode Flaming Mose and He. In
- 58:13addition to his work on The Simpsons, he's also the author of the nonfiction
- 58:15book How to Lose a Marathon, a retelling of his training for and running
- 58:19the New York Marathon. It was released in twenty seventeen, as well as
- 58:22an audiobook on Audible. But he has written. He wrote Trius of Horror
- 58:25ten twelve, Sorry, he wrote The Hecks in the City, Brawl on
- 58:29the Family, Fatten, The Fairiest Today, I Am a Clown, Fat
- 58:31Man, and little Boy, and Home's written slot episodes up to this point,
- 58:37some of which some not some of your favorites, but this one Definitely
- 58:40he's on the right track. He wrote. He wrote last of the Red
- 58:43hat Mumms as well a couple of weeks ago. Nice work, Joel.
- 58:45So, now were at Mason's house and home as approached and he's like,
- 58:47just to stay cool and stick to your cover story until we find out whether
- 58:51it's cool or not. He says he's a reporter at the local paper and
- 58:53he wants to do a story on people who wear sweaters. I believe that
- 58:57as he sat his color story and you know, he's written, Daddy smelled
- 59:00good too soon to hug So I infer from all the knickknacks. You're some
- 59:07sort of fruitcake. No, actually, I salvage valuables from sunken ships.
- 59:13Some call me a treasure hunter. Oh, it is so cool. Shrunken
- 59:19heads. Those are raisins. So you don't have any shrunken heads. What
- 59:23a job. Let's just never happen to work. Just being a treasure hunter
- 59:25your whole life, it'd be awesome. I'm trying to years ago for work.
- 59:30I was very fortunately I went to Africa. You have mentioned this story.
- 59:37You're to Africa. Yeah, and we we're adding Kenya on the Massimara
- 59:44and this couple showing us around Derek and I believe Beverly Joubet, who were
- 59:49sort of like they were basically adventurers, and he hit a business card that
- 59:52basically said adventurer. I'm like, motherfucker, yeah, what a life.
- 59:59I don't think, I actually said to his face. Every day is literally
- 1:00:01an adventure for this man. Yeah, but you may imagine someone mature sort
- 1:00:07of had public accountant, which is a valid job, and you know,
- 1:00:12one that keeps bread on the table and keeps the lights. That's great,
- 1:00:15but at the same time, imagine you're in a cocked up But he's like,
- 1:00:17here's my card, CPA. He hands back on the adventure. It's
- 1:00:21like, UK, you win. It's like someone says, what do you
- 1:00:23do for a living? I'm like, I'm a podcast? Like no,
- 1:00:25no, no, really, though, what do you do? Well?
- 1:00:29Then you said I'm an adventure and you pull out this guy's cart. But
- 1:00:34you know, Homeer thinks the other raisins are shrunken heads, and he's like,
- 1:00:37oh, I do have a SI six head. Homer screamed a small
- 1:00:40right, small than average screams and runs away. Then we got the boat.
- 1:00:45He's shown in the boat and you know this is the girl of my
- 1:00:47life or whatever. You know, it's a boat, right, and it
- 1:00:51says on the side of the Sun. I never knew that's the name of
- 1:00:52the boat. And let's let's talk about this. Where'd that name come from.
- 1:00:54Let's let's let's get more into in touch with that. And he says
- 1:00:59that you know, um. But basically this behome gets caught out in the
- 1:01:00lie because you know, he told me about how he was a reporter,
- 1:01:02then here was a radio DJ and he's a TV host or whatever, and
- 1:01:06it's just, oh, you're you're possibly my daddy and then m and they
- 1:01:09give Hi a big kiss and he gives him back his gum. Now the
- 1:01:13family all watching The Bully Corner. It's called the Bully Corner. Bully Corner.
- 1:01:15That's right with William H. Macy, which obviously they badged him.
- 1:01:22They said, we want to get you on the show. They're big fans
- 1:01:22of William H. Macy. They didn't really come up with a whole episode
- 1:01:27for him, but like, let's just get him on. This had nothing
- 1:01:29to do with the story, but it was just they used to do this.
- 1:01:30They've done this the entire run of the Simpsons just get a guest done
- 1:01:34for a random little bit, doesn't ever stay. It's welcome and it fits
- 1:01:36doesn't like he said, it fits the character of Justly May as a person.
- 1:01:39Yeah, yeah, and shows a weird h macy was a good sport
- 1:01:44as well. So yeah, I'll come on and get beaten up by the
- 1:01:45rest and bullies who are probably just teenagers or whatever. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:01:51teenage kids. I mean. Homer is now very excited. He gets he
- 1:01:53gets home and says, oh my god, I met Mason. Is going
- 1:01:55great brother. He's got a knife and it's just for cheese and home.
- 1:02:00Marge says to him, don't get too excited, Hommer, don't get too
- 1:02:01emotionally invested. You've just met him. And he's like, okay, won't.
- 1:02:05But we're going Daddy's boat tomorrow. And then they're walking around. I
- 1:02:07love it when they get different outfits, like you said, they're all and
- 1:02:09they're like sailor's outfits and things like that, and barays, well, Grandma
- 1:02:13bet on the wrong horse here, and he says, we don't worry.
- 1:02:15The most valuable treasures in here points to his chest, not in his heart.
- 1:02:17It's in this map. The treasure map for the for the famed Emeralds
- 1:02:21of piezo'mhardo. Apparently, I think Piezomhardo means like wet ground or something in
- 1:02:27a language. Oh really, yeah, wet wet floor, maybe wet floor.
- 1:02:30Then he tells a story of how the Emeralds got lost because they were
- 1:02:34nestled in the bosom of a Spanish galleon, and basically, one guy there's
- 1:02:38a big thunderstorm. Of these pirates on this ship, there would big thunderstorm,
- 1:02:40and they're all praying for their lives. One guy wasn't praying because he's
- 1:02:44thinking of a joke he wanted to say, and thus lightning strikes the boat,
- 1:02:46causes the boat to sink, and the Emeralds fought to the bottom of
- 1:02:49the ocean. Before that, though, there's just a really marge line there
- 1:02:53where he brings up emeralds. She's like, if I was born three months
- 1:02:55later, my birdstone would have been emerald. It's like that means nothing,
- 1:03:00but it's exactly what Marge would think. Yeah, yeah, what did you
- 1:03:02say, Like, well, life's funny like that? Yeah, what is
- 1:03:06the line? Did write? Feet has a strange sense of human Then Homer
- 1:03:12invites Mason to dinner at their places, like I once dined with the Prince
- 1:03:15of Wales and killer whales, if only the latter knew how to chew without
- 1:03:20humming, and like they thought, apparently that was just like killer Apparently they're
- 1:03:24just laughing for so long. By the way, a lot of tire changing
- 1:03:27this episode. Here's the next. There's another tire change in the in the
- 1:03:30middle of that, when they're when they're still laughing, you know, they
- 1:03:34go from Mason's place back to the Yeah, and they're laughing in these various
- 1:03:37um situations, and one of them is homes pulled over to change the time.
- 1:03:40Oh did you ever notice that? Yeah? Okay, and yeah said.
- 1:03:44They laugh all the way home and grandpa's there and he's annoyed. He
- 1:03:45thinks that first you stole my wife, and now you're still in my family.
- 1:03:50And then I wouldn't have to And Mason gets some sassin here, I
- 1:03:52wouldn't have to if you've given them what they needed. I'm like burn.
- 1:03:58But the way that York played the role though, it's like he's saying these
- 1:04:02harsh lines, but not to the point where you dislike the character. No,
- 1:04:06you know, I mean it's just sort of one something as well.
- 1:04:09He's been you know, sort of cheated out of cheated out of a son,
- 1:04:15out of his expanding that bloodline exactly. And Marche says, look,
- 1:04:19you know, look at she's look at Grandpa. You make him feel really,
- 1:04:21really sad. And he says, I'll take the test. I'll take
- 1:04:25any kind of tests, and he starts listening are listing various tests. I
- 1:04:28did enjoy, Lisa saying enough, Grandpa, no, never, this kid's
- 1:04:31listing various tests though. It was quite funny. And then he but does
- 1:04:35the test, and we've got one jas says suave news stranger. Another one
- 1:04:41says, same old grandpa, and he's got a T shirt for Homer just
- 1:04:44in case for whatever the results are. One side says number one son.
- 1:04:45The other says, well, it's biggest bastard. Then they're about to get
- 1:04:48the results and Mason says to Grandpa, I hope we could be civil.
- 1:04:51I'll put in your fist. Well, at least I can meet bad.
- 1:04:57He's going up with some singers. Yeah, Mason, but not in like
- 1:05:00a really derogatory way. It's just pointing out the others. Yeah, And
- 1:05:04it's revealed that Mason, apparently at this point in time, is the father.
- 1:05:10I have the results. Oh God, whatever happens, abe, I
- 1:05:14hope we can be civil. Poop in your fist. At least I can
- 1:05:17make both. Oh Omer's biological father is Mason Fairbanks? Who's Mason Fairbanks?
- 1:05:29This guy family in now visiting Grandpa. This was so depressing but so funny
- 1:05:33at the same time, because you just feel like, if this was a
- 1:05:36real situation, this is how actually transpired, this is probably how it would
- 1:05:40go down. Oh yeah, I mean it's like you're just going to pretend
- 1:05:43that they don't exists anymore. It's it's like then when you visit them,
- 1:05:45it's like, oh yeah, but we don't. We're not really related anymore.
- 1:05:48It's like it's weird, like like we still love you, but we're
- 1:05:54not biologically required to well, as I say, no biological obligation. Yeah,
- 1:05:59yeah, it's and then you said it three times. Do do you
- 1:06:01think of something else to say? It's just that's just it's really sad.
- 1:06:05But you were, as you were discussing earlier, the directing, just that
- 1:06:09the pauses between each line there was really well done. Just enough, wasn't
- 1:06:14it. Yeah, very very good timing on the part of the director Mike
- 1:06:16b. Anderson might be directing, is what you might say. Yeah,
- 1:06:21and Mason and Homer are now going on a treasure hunt in their Titanic as
- 1:06:27ships that James Cameron designed. Yeah, that's something I was going to look
- 1:06:30up and maybe I'll do it now. You keep talking. But I think
- 1:06:33Cameron had like some documentary called Ghosts of the Abyss or something that came out
- 1:06:39post Titanic rous like I'm going to go to the bottom of the sea and
- 1:06:42conguer that because I get everything above what they discussed that in the commentary,
- 1:06:46like these are the designs are based on those that are designed by the James
- 1:06:49Cameron and they're like, oh okay. And the boss moment about that whole
- 1:06:53thing is that James Cameron wasn't like I've built these things, go find it
- 1:06:57for me. It's like I'm doing it. Oh fuck yeah. Honestly,
- 1:07:02I mean, I think I wrote something about Cameron a while ago and said,
- 1:07:08I am basically terrified of James Cameron the way I'm terrible. I fear
- 1:07:14and loathe James Cameron the way I fear and loath anyone who has this much
- 1:07:16confidence and capability, because it's like I think anyone who's working with him says,
- 1:07:21you know, he's demanding, but that's because he can do your job
- 1:07:25even better than you can. And it's like you're a hate guys like that.
- 1:07:29But at the same time, I would, of course I would follow
- 1:07:30them into battle. Yeah, it's probably like everyone who's ever been on a
- 1:07:33team with Michael Jordan pretty much it's like, we know we're just like that
- 1:07:39that we're no, we're just on his shoulders. But I want to be
- 1:07:41on his shoulders. I want to be on this ride with him. So
- 1:07:43just fucking do what he says. How many times Michael Jordan just said,
- 1:07:45just give me the fucking ball. It's like, yeah, yeah, but
- 1:07:48I'm a complainant. I don't fucking care how good you are, just giving
- 1:07:51me the ball. But I mean, I remember growing up and I'm col
- 1:07:57People know their names Jacques Cousteau, but I mean it was like, well,
- 1:08:00he was the go to guy for underwater explorations, and so it would
- 1:08:04be a shorthand like, oh, I think a bit of a Jack Cousto,
- 1:08:08do you or as now it's like, you know, you think of
- 1:08:11undersea stuff. When you think of James Cameron's like, oh yeah, and
- 1:08:13he also makes like every time he makes a movie, it becomes automatically the
- 1:08:16top grossing movie of all time. Yeah, like, what the fuck?
- 1:08:21Stop being good at shit? Um, I don't think Sorry, very sweary
- 1:08:29this episode. I don't mean to be. They find the treasure and Homo
- 1:08:31immediately called Lenny and Carl and their ham Radio. This is where we get
- 1:08:34the skinner act this moment. I particularly like that, how do you make
- 1:08:38the same time loses. I thought they're going to get a Steamed Hams reference
- 1:08:43in here, because he goes I'm communicating with my fellow Hams, and I
- 1:08:46thought they're gonna I'm like, oh, there's gonna be a Steamed Hams reference.
- 1:08:49And there's like, ah, I guess how would you kind of work
- 1:08:51it in? Who knows steamed Hams even? I mean, it was it
- 1:08:55was the meme thing. It probably wasn't a twenty two thousand and six You're
- 1:08:58right, Yeah, it wasn't it at all. It feels yeah like steamed
- 1:09:01ham has only become a thing in the past maybe five or six years.
- 1:09:08Maybe maybe a little more, Yeah, maybe a bit more but I'm going
- 1:09:11to be honest, like twenty two Short Films about Springfield is probably still my
- 1:09:15favorite Simpsons episode just before. It's pure absurdity and novelty. But I'm not
- 1:09:19huge on the steamed Hams bit. That may sound silly, but like I
- 1:09:24find it funny, but it's like, I don't understand the level of love
- 1:09:28that scene gets. I think it's just that Simpsons fans seemed to have clung
- 1:09:31onto a scene and gone, this is our this is our moment, and
- 1:09:34this is the one we're going to overanalyze. And this is because for some
- 1:09:39reason it seems to be the one everyone references now to the point where it
- 1:09:42became not funny. Maybe it's just because it was so over used in the
- 1:09:45mean groups. I just got sick of it. I don't know. I
- 1:09:47think that, look, this is me putting an old man hat on.
- 1:09:50Hang on sec old man hate. You know, there's a certain millennial slash
- 1:09:57gem Z type of humor that's, you know, really steers into the absurd.
- 1:10:00And you see all the all the stuff they've done with steam Hams,
- 1:10:03all the reboots and remixes. I mean, I think my favorite of all
- 1:10:06time is the one where it's um, what's the gorilla song? Is it
- 1:10:13Clinicswood? I think that's clinicwood steam hands, I mean, and it's auto
- 1:10:19tuned with all the all the dialogue turning into the lyrics. Apparently it's the
- 1:10:24funniest thing in the world. And I find it really funny. But at
- 1:10:27the same time it's like, yeah, but this is also operating on a
- 1:10:29frequency that I don't quite get. I find it funny, but at the
- 1:10:31same time, it's not. It'll happen to you, that's true. It's
- 1:10:39when you you know, you look at say, here's an example, oh
- 1:10:44man shakes fish to cloud um lose kids? Uh? Watching the TV series
- 1:10:50the TV comedy TV game show Taskmaster. Do you know that one? No,
- 1:10:56there's a UK version and now there's in the strain one. And you
- 1:10:59know the Taskmaster who's hosting in Australia's Tom Gleeson. I'm not huge. No,
- 1:11:04he sucks, sorry guys, but he's no good. No, he
- 1:11:09sucks the whole bit where he's like doing the awkward questions. I'm like,
- 1:11:13I don't find it funny anyway, but Luke kids are hooked on it.
- 1:11:19They've got a whole bunch of episodes on the one. Yeah, recorded and
- 1:11:24just watching episode after episode. Lou and I were, you know, sort
- 1:11:27of in the background, can't you hurry this up so we could watch Nadi
- 1:11:29de Fiance some real television and they were like, we're watching this hilarious look
- 1:11:34at that and they're laughing and we're like not getting it at all. Yeah.
- 1:11:41When I realized that I was so out of touch with the music scene,
- 1:11:44I was like, yeah, I'm getting old. I just when I've
- 1:11:46put the radio on, I'm like, it all sounds the same to me.
- 1:11:49I don't get white people like this. I'm clearly old. You had
- 1:11:54you had the stand Marsh moment. Yeah, yeah, I just didn't the
- 1:11:57stand Marsh landslide moment. Yeah, not at all. But but anyway,
- 1:12:00so Home is at the bottom of the ocean. They find the treasure and
- 1:12:01calls up I'm lending and Kyl. Then he gets lost, and I was
- 1:12:03just like this, the idea of being lost, whether it be out in
- 1:12:08the ocean or the water or squash scuba diving or whatever, it's just probably
- 1:12:12the most terrifying thought I could possibly have being I have a few of water,
- 1:12:15so being lost anywhere involving water. Oh my god, I think being
- 1:12:18scuba diving and then not knowing where I am. It just it'd be horrific.
- 1:12:23I just I just couldn't do it. It reminds me of that film
- 1:12:26Open Water, you know. Oh yeah, but holly fuck. Can you
- 1:12:30imagine that being left behind whilst it gets to the surface and they're gone,
- 1:12:34oh mate, holy shit, no way, no thank you. Like just
- 1:12:38yeah, being being lost or stuck somewhere involving water not not my cap telly
- 1:12:43at all. You know, you're damn right. It says it's not what
- 1:12:45you want. It sounds terrible. Yeah, but yeah, but home,
- 1:12:48it gets stuck here and I mean, he needs help. What do I
- 1:12:51do? What do I do? And he gets the claw and scratches the
- 1:12:54front like he's scratching his head, like what do I do? I thought
- 1:12:56it was good, funny, funny visual. Then the oxygen here and we
- 1:12:58get the urge to kill from the shinning gag. Ocyen's going down's going down,
- 1:13:02oxygen slightly higher, oxygen gone, and he starts passing out and he
- 1:13:09said, Daddy, Daddy saved me. And he's sort of fading away,
- 1:13:12and we get the flashback here of Grandpa saying, get grab daddy's keys.
- 1:13:15He grabs it, starts driving the car. I like the idea of one
- 1:13:18baby home or not baby, but Todd the Homer or have got in the
- 1:13:21car, fixes the mirror up before he reverses out, and Homer and joined
- 1:13:27his picture for you. And he's a teenager. That's what a what a
- 1:13:30great was that? What's a quarter? A pan out? I guess you
- 1:13:31could say, I guess, so yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:13:34A great A great little gag there, and then Grandpa, this one's it's
- 1:13:39funny, but it's also more than the emotional side of things. So he
- 1:13:41gives Grappa's giving Homer a march on their wedding date, every last dollar that
- 1:13:44he has. You know, it's not but it's all It's all he's got.
- 1:13:46It's not much, but it's all I've got. And then I think,
- 1:13:47like a hawk or something takes it away. They're saying the commentary,
- 1:13:50they've got that gag. Obviously it's been his before, but the gag reminded
- 1:13:54me, reminded them sorry of a recent winner of the Funny Stone videos where
- 1:13:58a kid was given like a hamster, I'll put him on top of his
- 1:14:00cage or something, and hawks comes down and takes the kid's hamster away.
- 1:14:04No. I was like, oh, but wonderful. Yeah, I don't
- 1:14:09want to watch the video. I saw a video recently of a of an
- 1:14:11hour. I think it may have been a hawk pinched someone's dog and just
- 1:14:14like flew away with it, like a little white dog, a little one,
- 1:14:16and they found the dogs. I was like, okay, I may
- 1:14:18shut the dogs a vibe before I washed it. But then it's like,
- 1:14:21just grabs this dog and they're trying to reach for it, just flies away.
- 1:14:24They've just seen a bird fly away with your dog. That given the
- 1:14:30loun now has this little pappy on puppy that's never going to be that big,
- 1:14:32it's like, oh, yes, you could be prey of some you
- 1:14:35know, wedge day legal or something like that. Exactly. Yeah. Oh.
- 1:14:39I found myself watching some pet rescue video the other day, and I'm
- 1:14:44such an easy mark for those things. I was going to say, if
- 1:14:46you want to get me just anything involving animals being rescued, you've got me.
- 1:14:50Yeah. It's like, look at that little baby elephant in the pit.
- 1:14:53Oh, but here all the elephants come to save it. And this
- 1:14:56one was like a kitten in some pit or something like that. It was
- 1:15:00like, look, this monkey's come to rescue the come to rescue the kitten.
- 1:15:05It was like, normally will be like animal Kingdom working in unison,
- 1:15:11hooray, Hakuna matana, you know, na quenia circular life. Then I
- 1:15:15was like, someone's filming this, why don't you just fucking reach and get
- 1:15:17the cat. Yeah, that's why we wait for that monkey. Like,
- 1:15:20I don't mind if someone filming somebody saving an animal, but when it's just
- 1:15:24like you're filming an animal getting rescued by other animals, like you probably could
- 1:15:27have done this yourself. Yeah, because they're filming the cat, they're going,
- 1:15:30oh really, you know kind of terrified in this muddy pit, could
- 1:15:34drown, Like you could have alleviated that animal suffering any second. Yes,
- 1:15:40yeah, you just to film it. They fall back on that. I
- 1:15:43it was just you know, it's just nature. It's like, fuck off,
- 1:15:46should be in your human agent, human nature to save that thing.
- 1:15:49Correct. It reminds me of people filming ship one Last little anim day.
- 1:15:54I'll they're a bit off topic of you guys, but hey, what are
- 1:15:55you gonna do. It's our show. The listened to another shot. There's
- 1:16:01no other Symptons podcast. I'm worry about it that it was a giant the
- 1:16:05Maleficent Dragon at Disneyland. It's part of like a stage show they do at
- 1:16:10Disneyland every night or every couple of nights whatever, And it's like Fantasia,
- 1:16:13like someone dressed up as Mickey from Fantasia, and that the dragon's supposed to
- 1:16:16breathe fire out and this giant, fucking huge, one of a kind,
- 1:16:19like ten million dollar animatronic dragon. Right, we'll caught fire at the show
- 1:16:24like yesterday and I fucking exploded, like it literally explodes to a ball of
- 1:16:28fire. Right, And everyone's like, holy shit, this person's filming and
- 1:16:30this girl's filming it right, and the new story's got this girl's footage and
- 1:16:32threat the whole video. She's like, oh my god, this is going
- 1:16:35straight on my Insta. And the girl her girlfriend's like, you're gonna get
- 1:16:39so many followers, and I'm like, oh my fucking god, that's where
- 1:16:42we are in a society. Oh my god, this is going straight on
- 1:16:45my Insta. Just run. I'd love it if they didn't attribute this was
- 1:16:56wilmed by someone somewhere we don't know where from, but yeah, it's yeah,
- 1:17:01it's actually it looks terrified. It just goes It's like a fireball and
- 1:17:04all of a sudden just goes boom. It just explodes. And I was
- 1:17:08like, okay, everyone, I'm doing I'm just picturing, Like though,
- 1:17:13that scene from Fellowship of the Ring. I've watched the lot. That's the
- 1:17:16first one, isn't it. It is the case, right, I've seen
- 1:17:18that one, you know. Yeah, it's bill Way Beggin's birthday party and
- 1:17:23Gandal was broad his dope. Fireworks. Oh yes, the fireworks. Yeah,
- 1:17:27and Mary and Pippen get the dragon one. It's like ship up and
- 1:17:30they let it off and everyone's like it's a dragon. Then it explodes and
- 1:17:32everyone's like I can just imagine that people going with them livers and dragons,
- 1:17:40like, oh my god, what a tragedy. Oh it exploded. Yeah.
- 1:17:42The funny thing is it's just like everyone's like, this is not supposed
- 1:17:45to happen. This is not supposed to happen. And I'm filming it and
- 1:17:47he's here to guy with the thing going everyone please leave the area immediately.
- 1:17:51This is not part of the show and everyone's like, nah, fuck,
- 1:17:54you're it going anywhere? Man, We're going anywhere, and then boom whenever.
- 1:17:58I's like, okay, let's go. But getting back to the episode
- 1:18:03once again, followed these guys, so we had ye the flashback of the
- 1:18:06hawk and the hawk or whatever bird taken away the money. Granpausaid, you
- 1:18:11know, I gave you everything and it still wasn't enough. As what he
- 1:18:13says, and this is where he wakes to see the shadow of approaching sorry,
- 1:18:15the shadows approaching him as he's sort of fading out, and he wakes
- 1:18:17up into bed. He's been in coma for three days. He's in hospital.
- 1:18:20He's been fed through a tube. What you think of the tube?
- 1:18:23Gag. I was like, yeah, that's fine. This episode has been
- 1:18:27good enough. I'm willing to roll with this. Yeah. I thought it
- 1:18:30was a neat I mean, they didn't overplay it. No, they didn't
- 1:18:32know yeah, which I thought was good. But the fact that it was
- 1:18:36he didn't fed through an intervenenced he's a turkey. Just chicken comes out.
- 1:18:40I liked it. Wellmer, now that you're alive again, I'll leave you
- 1:18:44with your real family. Great, can we have a moment in private.
- 1:18:47Of course, it's early dying on the ocean floor. I remembered everything you've
- 1:18:54done for me. Hell without stupid DNA test, and it's ninety nine point
- 1:18:59nine nine nine seven percent accuracy. You're my dad, and I love you.
- 1:19:02I love you two Homer. Oh, now there's something I've got to
- 1:19:08tell you. I really am your father. Oh but how after seeing how
- 1:19:16happy you were with Horatio home wrecker, I made a decision. I switched
- 1:19:21the names on the DNA samples. Then I put my name first on the
- 1:19:27list for a new heart. My old one's fine, but you never know.
- 1:19:32Only a true father would lead his son to believe he belonged to someone
- 1:19:38else. Oh, now, why don't you stay for dinner? It would
- 1:19:44be my pleasure, son. Send up two hams. This one's cold.
- 1:19:55This was actually going to bring to something the start. I thought this was
- 1:19:57the best part of the whole episode in the sense that what they did here
- 1:20:00it was have Homer say that he wants Grandpa to be his real dad before
- 1:20:03he finds out. So this is the This is like one of the nicest
- 1:20:08moments we've had from Homer and I reckon seasons where he says, you know
- 1:20:12you raised me. You know when I was when I thought I was going
- 1:20:15to be dying, all I thought about was you. I love you.
- 1:20:16You're my dad regards what that stupid DNA test says, and I was like,
- 1:20:20this is just lovely. But I thought as a really really well earned
- 1:20:25emotional ending, it was indeed, and they, of course I had a
- 1:20:30lot of heart, which we really appreciate and which makes the Simpsons or symptoms.
- 1:20:32But yeah, they also undercut up with a few just neat little gags
- 1:20:36in there, just yea, so it's not overwhelmingly sweet. It's just like,
- 1:20:41yeah, here's a little bit of a laugh, just to you know,
- 1:20:44cut it. So, yeah, I know it was great. It
- 1:20:46got the balance just right. Then they got back to one of those little
- 1:20:49credit scenes again and it's Mason Fairbanks teaching Homer how to the stove is hot?
- 1:20:55Can you teach me at the stover's hot? And it goes exactly how
- 1:20:58you expected to go, And I think that was nice as well. I
- 1:21:01mean, I'm not always a fan of those post credit or those credit end
- 1:21:05credit sequences. You don't we say, but I thought it was nice to
- 1:21:09sort of throw Mason back in just a little bit. I mean, no,
- 1:21:13no, just to remind you, was like, oh, this guy
- 1:21:15wasn't all bad. No, you know, it's not that it's not like
- 1:21:18this is a winner and loser situation. It's more like a he made the
- 1:21:23right choice situation. But you know, it's not like Mason was a villain
- 1:21:27or anything like that. I thought that was I thought it was a nice
- 1:21:29touch. I think the best way to have ended this episode, it's just
- 1:21:32my humble opinion. I thought would have been too because Mason Fairback was a
- 1:21:36good character. I thought, right would be rather than just pretend that he
- 1:21:41doesn't exist anymore, because you know, at this point in time when Homer,
- 1:21:45when Granpa reveals to home with about the DNA samples, Mason still thinks
- 1:21:47that is his dad, right. I thought the perfect way to end it
- 1:21:49would have been Mason finding out that Grandpa did the swap, being sad,
- 1:21:54and then Homer, Grandpa and Mason sharing dinner via the tube at the end
- 1:21:58as a as a trio, as a peace offering. Yes, I thought,
- 1:22:01welcome to the family gesture. Yes, And it's like, you know,
- 1:22:03because he's now going to go back to having nobody again, but it's
- 1:22:05like, no, we'll still be We'll treat you how we were treating Grabath
- 1:22:10throughout the episode when we thought he wasn't real dead, So we'll still come
- 1:22:12visit. You still do cool ship with you. So I thought it would
- 1:22:14be nice to sort of have them together in the one shot together as one
- 1:22:17unit, like like you were saying, yeah, Dando, your opinion maybe
- 1:22:20a humble one, but it's also the correct one. What do we learn,
- 1:22:24Palmer? So what do you learn from the episode, mister Davis that
- 1:22:28I really should do that in the loop, Yes, you really should do
- 1:22:30that. Yes, And what I learned was that never give people the old
- 1:22:35cheapskate trail and they'll always take it, especially myself. Roby. All Right,
- 1:22:44mister Davis, there's time for the new Name Championship here on a four
- 1:22:48figure discount to the Guy Davis New In Championship for season seventeen. The current
- 1:22:51leader board stands at this in first position of Luke McKay on nine points,
- 1:22:56in second position Heath Applebe on seven points, and in third position we have
- 1:23:00a tie between Nora Coca and Fergus Jeff's both on five points. Okay,
- 1:23:04what do we got this week. Okay, one point goes too. Oh
- 1:23:10father, here art thou is David Mott, while I'm David. You get
- 1:23:15the one point four this week that puts you into I won't read it where
- 1:23:18everyone is. We'll wait to be up to the end because it could be
- 1:23:20a bit of a jumble, I said, David Mott. One point.
- 1:23:21You've moved up the leaderboard. That's all I'm gonna say. Nice work,
- 1:23:26Motsky. Two points four. Homer has got a brand new dad. Oh
- 1:23:30boom, that's our man, Adam Woolhouse. That puts him now on four
- 1:23:33points while done with a two point mister Woolhouse, Woolhouse in the house,
- 1:23:38and three points for it's simple, it's sweet, it's effective. Daddy's Homer.
- 1:23:44Well, if there is someone who is usually effective, it's Garrod harrow
- 1:23:47Hill with the three points the grode that has shaken things up somewhat because that
- 1:23:51has now put Garrode in third position. All right, So who Luke McKay
- 1:23:57still in first on nine he would be on seven in second and Grod harrow
- 1:24:00Hill now outright in third position, just one point behind second on six points.
- 1:24:04All right, God, what a come back they're going to make it
- 1:24:06happen. I can see them all the way. Third comes right after second.
- 1:24:10Grog just somehow sometimes goes I'm not going to comment a name for about
- 1:24:13four weeks, and I'll just drop one in there now and then all three
- 1:24:15points in here. Name worries Well, not to pick up in too much,
- 1:24:19but he's kind of like the Michael Jordan of don Yes, exactly right,
- 1:24:23if you just rock up a gaze swish Philip J. Hawkins, Zander
- 1:24:26and grod harrow Hill like the Pip and Jordan combination. Who's the Dennis Rodman?
- 1:24:32I don't know. Well, we'll work that outail here. Guys,
- 1:24:38don't forget our mail bag questions. You can send them through to Simpsons Mailbag
- 1:24:42at gmail dot com. We'd love to hear from each and every single one
- 1:24:45of you. This first question, he comes from Georgia. Catherine Georgia says,
- 1:24:48if you found out you had a different biological parent or sibling, etc.
- 1:24:53Would you want to find slash meet them or would you rather just let
- 1:24:56sleeping dogs lie? I think the curiosity would eventually get the better of you,
- 1:25:00right, I think it would. I think my initial reaction will be
- 1:25:03like nap they don't need to complicate matters any further. But the miniature here,
- 1:25:12it is going to be like, oh you got that got a niche,
- 1:25:15you need to scratch it. Yeah, and yeah, you would probably
- 1:25:18go find this new new relation, find it. We are. You'd be
- 1:25:21curious like you like I think you like to think you are. You are
- 1:25:28a creation of yourself. You know, it's like, yeah, everything about
- 1:25:30me I've sort of built from the ground up, you know. I mean,
- 1:25:32you wonder how much of it is nature and how much of it is
- 1:25:35nurture and me imagine meeting someone's like, oh my god, it's like looking
- 1:25:39in the mirror or oh holy shit, I do that or that's how I
- 1:25:43sound sometimes and like oh oh it's all out of my head. But also
- 1:25:45the element of you spent your whole life seeing yourself in a parent that's not
- 1:25:49actually your parrot as well, make you a question everything about you? Yeah.
- 1:25:53Next question he comes from Kyle Muldoon. What smoke damaged item would you
- 1:25:58buy from the smoke damage Outlet store? Um? A ham steamed hams smoked
- 1:26:04ham a smoked ham from salmon chicken breads? What damaged item? I don't
- 1:26:14know what it's gonna be still functional, right, or maybe it's just sort
- 1:26:16of it's so burnt it's like a cool art piece you just display on the
- 1:26:19shelf. Because smoke damage is pretty fucked, isn't it. That's yeah,
- 1:26:24I mean I'm pretty melted to those things are from that shop especially, But
- 1:26:29i mean even say, yeah, this this cool jacket, it's not you
- 1:26:33know, it's not fire damaged, but it was in the house, that
- 1:26:38it was in the burning house for so long that the smoke is just in
- 1:26:41it. You know, you can send this to the dry cleaners so many
- 1:26:44times, but it skill is still gonna be still smells like a burnt house.
- 1:26:48At the rest of sounding like an absolute idiot, I've just realized the
- 1:26:51whole point of that first scene anyway. I'll just realized the whole point of
- 1:26:55it with the smoke damage outlet, was it? It was the smoke that
- 1:26:59melted the fucking ice. Yeah, So I'm just like, oh, I
- 1:27:01didn't put the talk together that the smoke damage. Eventually Marge does something that
- 1:27:06causes lots of smoke, which which creates the smoke to melt the ice.
- 1:27:11Oh. Anyway, next question here, Andrew JP, do you like Abe
- 1:27:17was a character anymore. He has some strong storylines early on, but now
- 1:27:20he just seems to be a good for a quick gag. We discussed,
- 1:27:24we discussed that earlier. It has felt that way, but I thought this
- 1:27:26episode and last week, with that middle one in particular, I've done a
- 1:27:30good job of sort of reminding viewers. I no, no, he's not
- 1:27:31just this decrepit old, unwanted characters. He's got some substance tone. No,
- 1:27:36we've we've had a good one two punch with the last couple of episodes
- 1:27:39where but it's like, oh yeah, he can't contribute a add something to
- 1:27:43the fabric. Absolutely, yeah, I mean he's like any character. I
- 1:27:46mean, he's just got to play him right. We'll use him correctly,
- 1:27:50and that's not always going to happen. And usually it's like with Grandpa,
- 1:27:54the best stories for him are the ones, whether kids or whatever, go
- 1:27:57oh yeah, you're not just the useless old man. You were once young,
- 1:28:00like you were saying earlier, and you once did shit, yeah,
- 1:28:03or or just a reminders like you know, treat the treat the elderly members
- 1:28:09of our community with respect and afford them dignity. Exactly. It's my one
- 1:28:13of my favorite lines of all time. Coming on, folks, the dignity
- 1:28:15is on me. It's one of the best lines the Simpsons ever wrote.
- 1:28:17And who says that exactly? That's he, isn't it. It's in Yes,
- 1:28:21blood money, but blood not blood money. What's is that blood money
- 1:28:25they called blood money? No, that's not it. No, what's Beatrice
- 1:28:28Simmons old money, old money, not blood money. Old money. Yes,
- 1:28:30that's the one. I knew it was something money. I'm like,
- 1:28:32it's not blood. Blood the blood, the blood the one where Homer asked,
- 1:28:36um, I think it's called blood feud, isn't it? Is that
- 1:28:39the one where Homer bart donates blood and mister burns and he gives them the
- 1:28:42big giant head and Homer is furious about it. Remember that one? Yeah,
- 1:28:45I think so, yeah, yeah, okay, your old money.
- 1:28:46Yeah, that's a that's one of the best endings that you don't hear enough
- 1:28:49people talk about that at that ending. It's just one of the it's almost
- 1:28:53like peak Grandpa moment. I reckon that one. Oh yeah, and yeah,
- 1:28:56as I said, it is one. I'm one of the best lines
- 1:28:58that the Simpsons ever delivered. Yeah, where you know the retirement castles just
- 1:29:00turned into something really nice and it's got the Beatris Simmons Memorial Memorial Dining Hall.
- 1:29:04It's Oh, I'm going to tear up just thinking about it right now.
- 1:29:08Yeah, final question here, Harrison McClure. Harrison says, have you
- 1:29:11ever been out deep sea exploring or in a boat? I'm not. I
- 1:29:15get csick very very fast. I'm not a scuba diver. I just I
- 1:29:19was gonna fear of going under the water. I'd like to do it.
- 1:29:23I just just don't think I could have actually been myself to do it,
- 1:29:25which is a shame, but I just don't don't. I don't like not
- 1:29:27being able to see the bottom if unless I'm in a boat. You know,
- 1:29:30I'm in a boat, I can't see the bottom. That's fine,
- 1:29:31but but yeah, once when I think I've mentioned it in another podcast,
- 1:29:35where when on the boat that goes to the Wineglass Bay and you go sort
- 1:29:39of out in the out and the you get out in the sea for a
- 1:29:41little bit and it was fucking so choppy. I've never felt so sick in
- 1:29:45my life. Yeah, that's just not for me being out in the ocean.
- 1:29:46What about you? I only feel the bath to out the halfway out.
- 1:29:49I don't have a bath ever. I have a few bath it's terrifying.
- 1:29:55Well, I see, I just I shower like I don't have baths.
- 1:29:58I just I hate the idea of just bathing my own filth. I
- 1:30:01love the idea. Yeah, I get ten minutes and I'm just like nicol
- 1:30:05and I hopping the bath again. It's like him, Yeah, that's that.
- 1:30:11The idea is sexy. The biggest myth, the biggest myth that's ever
- 1:30:14been perpetuates like it would be so sexy of a bath together or even a
- 1:30:16shower together. It's like, no, this is my cleaning was fine,
- 1:30:19getting pretty clean, okay, but after a while, it's very nice to
- 1:30:26be in here and also together. But after a while I'm going to be
- 1:30:28cleaning the dirty parts of my body. Now, that's it. I've got
- 1:30:35to maintain that mistake exactly. Right On that note, let's rape up this
- 1:30:42this fantastic There is a fun episode of four figured discaun here reviewing homes Paternity
- 1:30:45had a good time. I hope season seventeen continues on this trail because it's
- 1:30:49been really good for the last month. I reckon it has been indeed,
- 1:30:53we've We've had some good episodes to talk about. Please keep it, please
- 1:30:57keep the run going. Yes, the next tide is called We're on the
- 1:30:59Road to do Where should I say that again? Where are the Road to
- 1:31:02Dowear? Some love that movie that that song is a kid. It was
- 1:31:06in one of my favorite movies, which I know is terrible. I haven't
- 1:31:09watched this another little kid, and I'm not going to revisit it because I
- 1:31:12wanted to stay my memory as the movie that I remembered it was called Little
- 1:31:15Monsters starring Fred Savage, Oh and how Howey Mandel as them as the monster.
- 1:31:20Loved that movie as a kid, and it's like I've ruined so many
- 1:31:24movies from my childhood by revisiting them and going, oh, this was shit.
- 1:31:27So I'm just going to leave that one in the memory bank. But
- 1:31:29that that movie ends with that song, So whenever I hear road to Nowhere,
- 1:31:31it reminds me of that, of that moment. Yeah, it's by
- 1:31:33the band Talking Heads. It is indeed. Yes, So have you seen
- 1:31:36the concert where they build the stage live during the opening song? Is that
- 1:31:41stop making sense? I'm not sure that's what it is, but anyway,
- 1:31:44basically this the stage is empty at the start, and then by the end
- 1:31:45of like the first song or whatever, like there's like a whole setup built
- 1:31:49as they're singing. I imagine that stopped making sense, which is just,
- 1:31:53you know, one of the best concert movies of all time. Let's double
- 1:31:57check that. Yes, but yeah, but we're on the road to dough
- 1:32:00where it is going to be the next episode of four Finger discount when we're
- 1:32:02doing a season seventeen episode. Don't forget. We've got some guy on Springfields
- 1:32:06coming up in the near future, including Barked the Fink with one Alliott j
- 1:32:10O'Neil from The Simpsons Index podcast subscribed to theoy Birthday Boy. This his birthday,
- 1:32:15boy, Yes it did. Birthday and also another happy birthday to our
- 1:32:17man Pickles and his mum Ginger. Happy thirteenth birthday, our man, Hope
- 1:32:21you have a great birthday. What what did you do on your thirteenth birthday?
- 1:32:24Can you remember what you did on your thirteenth birthday? Crack cocaine?
- 1:32:28Crack cocaine, Yes, I had I remember that. It's been defined by
- 1:32:31in my friendship group as Dando's Chicken party, where I think I might mentioned
- 1:32:35it before. My parents just basically, what do you want for your birthday?
- 1:32:39Do you want pizzas or whatever? I was like, everyone's like KFC,
- 1:32:42and they're like, oh whatever. My dad leaves comes back with two
- 1:32:45giant cardboard boxes full of just KFC chicken and one box full of just chips,
- 1:32:48and it's just like go and everyone's like just chicken and chips and video
- 1:32:57games and coke and cocaine. As you were saying, I have coke,
- 1:33:00you have cocaine, and yeah, it's just a great time had by all.
- 1:33:02But that was my thirteenth birthday. But yes, this has been As
- 1:33:04I said, Home's Fraternity Coot. We're on the road to dough Where is
