- 0:08Speaker 2: The World's a Vegeon podcast.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. I was sing a little about
- 0:19Speaker 1: Josh Allen too.
- 0:20Speaker 3: I made the point I think it was yesterday of
- 0:22Speaker 3: like maybe justin Herbert being.
- 0:23Speaker 1: A wild card of mom and I'm like, no, dumb.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Ask bart And. Poland's in the hospital recovering and listening,
- 0:28Speaker 2: so get better. So not bad enough to keep him
- 0:31Speaker 2: from email? Yeah, so we can type. So it wasn't
- 0:34Speaker 2: his fingers.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Only to make a wife of someone's hospital vis him
- 0:37Speaker 1: and talk to text people die.
- 0:41Speaker 4: What you're about to say is wrong, but.
- 0:43Speaker 1: That's okay, go ahead. I was about to say, yeah,
- 0:47Speaker 1: I knew.
- 0:47Speaker 4: You were going to say that.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Did you even read bart from Poland's email after you
- 0:51Speaker 2: made fun of his health? That was his email? That
- 0:53Speaker 2: was That was it. He just wanted to tell us
- 0:55Speaker 2: he was in the hospital listening. He said he was
- 0:58Speaker 2: gonna be fine. Bye, you know, toss in North Carolina.
- 1:03Speaker 2: All right, you don't like that, you don't there for
- 1:06Speaker 2: you du you don't care for it. And Barton poem
- 1:10Speaker 2: says a fight diets on you. Fred.
- 1:12Speaker 1: This is Patriots Unfiltered, presented by Toyota's official website.
- 1:16Speaker 2: For deals, buy a Toyota dot com. All right, welcome
- 1:22Speaker 2: to Patriots.
- 1:22Speaker 1: I've filtered.
- 1:23Speaker 2: It is Tuesday here at a Les Stadium. It's Evan, Paul, Me, Deuce,
- 1:28Speaker 2: Matt and Alex in the back room and we're talking
- 1:31Speaker 2: about Patriots. Of course, a disappointing when surrendering a twenty
- 1:38Speaker 2: one nothing lead, and uh, the AFC East for the
- 1:41Speaker 2: time being. You had that chance for a cap and
- 1:43Speaker 2: T shirt, but there's still time for that. It's not
- 1:47Speaker 2: the end of the world. No, not the end of
- 1:48Speaker 2: the world.
- 1:49Speaker 3: How are you doing, Fred? You came into that postgame
- 1:50Speaker 3: show with your Darth h theater, you.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Know, post game in the moment, I was really really disappointed.
- 1:56Speaker 2: I was dejected. You know, you had it for the taking.
- 1:59Speaker 2: It's right there. It was like I was telling you
- 2:02Speaker 2: guys in the postgame show in two thousand and six
- 2:05Speaker 2: at halftime, you know, you thought the AFC Championship, Okay,
- 2:09Speaker 2: let's make our hotel reservations. We've got this game, and
- 2:13Speaker 2: it just kind of fell apart in the second half,
- 2:15Speaker 2: much like this one.
- 2:16Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, And do you think that how much
- 2:19Speaker 3: of your disappointment is that they had the lead?
- 2:21Speaker 2: I mean, is that everything everyone thought it was going
- 2:24Speaker 2: to be a close game. Yeah, I don't think anyone
- 2:26Speaker 2: was shocked.
- 2:27Speaker 5: Me.
- 2:27Speaker 1: That's all of my disappointment. If they had just gone
- 2:29Speaker 1: back and forth the whole game and they fell short,
- 2:31Speaker 1: I'd be disappointed, sure, But I feel much better than
- 2:35Speaker 1: the way the game unfolded. Yeah, yeah, that's fair.
- 2:37Speaker 6: I actually feel the total opposite. And I'm on an
- 2:39Speaker 6: island on those show, and that's okay. Barthas feels exactly
- 2:44Speaker 6: how you all feel. So I know I'm probably in
- 2:46Speaker 6: the minority here, but I feel like you skated with them.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Again, like, oh, that's the bottom line of the game.
- 2:52Speaker 6: Like I don't really feel I don't know what the
- 2:57Speaker 6: word is, like, I just I feel as though I
- 3:01Speaker 6: feel a lot of people have brought up twenty twenty
- 3:03Speaker 6: one and the feeling of them after the bye kind
- 3:07Speaker 6: of collapsing in twenty twenty one. But when the Bills
- 3:09Speaker 6: came here the second time to play the Patriots in
- 3:12Speaker 6: week sixteen to twenty twenty one, the Patriots got kind
- 3:16Speaker 6: of dominated, Like it was really not a very competitive game.
- 3:20Speaker 6: The Bills didn't punt like that's always the famous one,
- 3:24Speaker 6: but they lost by two scores.
- 3:25Speaker 4: It really wasn't a competitive game. Uh this.
- 3:28Speaker 6: You know, statistically, the Patriots outplayed the Buffalo for most
- 3:31Speaker 6: of this game, and you know they they obviously didn't
- 3:35Speaker 6: win the game, and that's disappointing. But I looked at
- 3:39Speaker 6: it and said, you went toe to toe with them,
- 3:41Speaker 6: just like you did in Week five.
- 3:43Speaker 1: The only idea that they ever in question for me though, so.
- 3:46Speaker 2: Well, the only thing I'll push back on that is
- 3:50Speaker 2: the second half. They didn't go toe to toe with them.
- 3:52Speaker 2: They got dominating in the second half.
- 3:54Speaker 4: They had the ball, they but they dominated the first half.
- 3:56Speaker 2: They did, they did, But there's a tale you win
- 4:01Speaker 2: the games at the second half.
- 4:02Speaker 4: Yeah, they lost the game, no doubt, I mean.
- 4:05Speaker 2: But there's win games in the NFL in the second half, sure, yea.
- 4:08Speaker 2: And they got dominated in the second half. They had
- 4:12Speaker 2: like you know, I know, they had one drive that
- 4:14Speaker 2: was one play, but even if you add that on
- 4:16Speaker 2: the most they would have had the ball with like
- 4:18Speaker 2: ten minutes in the second half.
- 4:20Speaker 1: They yeah, they they when the chips were down.
- 4:24Speaker 2: So you so you have to look at that and
- 4:27Speaker 2: be real about it and say that that can't happen
- 4:32Speaker 2: in the third game. That can't happen in the third game.
- 4:35Speaker 3: Well, I mean to me, it goes to Drake May's
- 4:37Speaker 3: a young player and this is, you know, still something
- 4:40Speaker 3: that he's building towards. I just watched I read Evans review.
- 4:43Speaker 3: I watched the Dan Rolofsky thing on you know, the
- 4:45Speaker 3: dial spinning that the Bills did, and it made me
- 4:49Speaker 3: just think back to, you know, the relationship that Josh
- 4:52Speaker 3: and Brady had and the experience that they had, and
- 4:55Speaker 3: they could go to the sideline and say they're doing this,
- 4:58Speaker 3: you know, or we've seen this before. And so we're
- 5:01Speaker 3: watching Drake May acquire experience and don't guarantee that he's
- 5:04Speaker 3: going to turn into a clutch performer and be the
- 5:07Speaker 3: guy that in the fourth quarter can be like Josh
- 5:10Speaker 3: Allen is consistently, but you know, you're watching his development
- 5:14Speaker 3: and I think these are important lessons to learn and
- 5:16Speaker 3: it's a great reminder. And you know, with three weeks
- 5:19Speaker 3: to go now until the playoffs of how these games
- 5:21Speaker 3: go and the different things that are going to get
- 5:23Speaker 3: thrown at you, and I think we're all here to
- 5:25Speaker 3: watch Drake may develop over the next few years, and
- 5:27Speaker 3: that's the biggest thing.
- 5:28Speaker 2: You know, the ball knowers are telling us that in
- 5:31Speaker 2: the second half, the Bills defense made some really good adjustments.
- 5:36Speaker 2: They dropped more into coverage and kind of took away Hunter,
- 5:41Speaker 2: Henry and Diggs and didn't really leave a lot for Drake.
- 5:45Speaker 2: May you know, it's not like they didn't pass try
- 5:48Speaker 2: to pass the ball the second half, So all this
- 5:50Speaker 2: stuff that they don't conservatives is ridiculous. They only ran
- 5:53Speaker 2: the ball once or twice in the second half. The
- 5:55Speaker 2: whole second half. Now, they didn't have a lot of
- 5:57Speaker 2: opportunities because nothing was working. So Mike, question to whoever
- 6:01Speaker 2: wants to be today's ball nowhere is what could the
- 6:07Speaker 2: Patriots have done to overcome that? Like we all hear
- 6:11Speaker 2: about blitz beaters, what could they have done to be
- 6:14Speaker 2: coverage beaters in this game?
- 6:16Speaker 6: Well, I would just say, I mean you said they
- 6:19Speaker 6: didn't run the ball. They didn't. I mean they ran
- 6:23Speaker 6: eighteen plays and they threw it fifteen times. And after
- 6:26Speaker 6: the success that they had in the first half running
- 6:28Speaker 6: the ball, I don't know how how you kind of
- 6:31Speaker 6: justify that.
- 6:32Speaker 4: Now we'll talk to Josh McDaniel's on Thursday.
- 6:34Speaker 6: And I'm sure he'll get asked that question, and I'm
- 6:37Speaker 6: sure he'll answer it honestly. But you know, you go
- 6:40Speaker 6: into a game against a week Bills run defense, and
- 6:44Speaker 6: you run all over them in the first half, and
- 6:47Speaker 6: then you only run it three times the entire second
- 6:49Speaker 6: half of the game with the lead.
- 6:51Speaker 3: And they start playing more cover two, so they're taking
- 6:53Speaker 3: guys out of the box.
- 6:54Speaker 6: You're playing too high safety, and they're trying to throw
- 6:58Speaker 6: the ball into too high safety.
- 6:59Speaker 4: Look, look, it's harder to do.
- 7:02Speaker 2: So were the Bills doing something where they were showing
- 7:06Speaker 2: run defense and maybe Drake was calling out of plays.
- 7:11Speaker 1: It was a little bit of both.
- 7:12Speaker 6: You know, sometimes they're starting one, sometimes they're starting too
- 7:15Speaker 6: high safety. They did a good job mixing it up.
- 7:18Speaker 6: That's what they do. They're a good disguised defense. You know,
- 7:21Speaker 6: we talked about it all week, and I think that's
- 7:23Speaker 6: probably the frustrating part about it for me, was that
- 7:26Speaker 6: this game plan that they came out in the second
- 7:29Speaker 6: half was a lot like the first half of the
- 7:31Speaker 6: Week five game that gave Drake and the Patriots offense
- 7:34Speaker 6: some problems. So I'm not tooting my own horn at all.
- 7:36Speaker 6: But in game plan, I said, this is what Buffalo
- 7:39Speaker 6: is going to do. They're going to come in and
- 7:41Speaker 6: they're going to play cover two. They're going to play
- 7:43Speaker 6: two man. They're gonna play with the two high safeties
- 7:45Speaker 6: because this is what they did in the first half
- 7:47Speaker 6: against the Patriots in Week five and the Patriots had
- 7:50Speaker 6: six points at halftime, and this is what they're going
- 7:54Speaker 6: to do now. They did it backwards. They started the
- 7:57Speaker 6: game with some more post safety stuff and then they
- 8:00Speaker 6: went to the cover two stuff in the second half
- 8:02Speaker 6: instead of doing it the other way around. But at
- 8:05Speaker 6: the same time, you know, you had to have known
- 8:07Speaker 6: that these were the types of looks that were coming
- 8:10Speaker 6: from Buffalo because this is what they do. And this
- 8:12Speaker 6: is what I think you're going to start to see
- 8:14Speaker 6: teams do more and more against Drake May because he
- 8:17Speaker 6: wants he said, he doesn't want to be a check
- 8:19Speaker 6: down Charlie.
- 8:20Speaker 2: So it sounds to me like you're saying that, you know,
- 8:22Speaker 2: in terms of lessons learned, the biggest lessons in the
- 8:26Speaker 2: biggest people who need to learn the lessons. That's coaching,
- 8:29Speaker 2: not not not Drake May, in the players.
- 8:32Speaker 6: Look, the players got execute and they're the ones out
- 8:34Speaker 6: on the field.
- 8:34Speaker 4: But at the same.
- 8:35Speaker 6: Time, you know, you look at the fact that you
- 8:38Speaker 6: only ran the ball three times in the entire second half,
- 8:41Speaker 6: and then you add that to the fact that they
- 8:43Speaker 6: ran a lot of these two high safety looks and
- 8:46Speaker 6: the Patriots just didn't have any answers. You know, they
- 8:48Speaker 6: just weren't open guys for a lot of these plays.
- 8:51Speaker 6: You know, the fourth down play that decided the game
- 8:53Speaker 6: is ugly, like don't pull that film up, like it's
- 8:56Speaker 6: just a it's just a pack of people in the
- 8:58Speaker 6: middle of the field with no options for drank may.
- 9:01Speaker 2: So the Bill's got the ball to start the third quarter.
- 9:04Speaker 2: Do you think that they're a little panic set set
- 9:07Speaker 2: in with Josh mcgin's like, uh oh, we got to
- 9:10Speaker 2: start putting We got to keep putting points up here.
- 9:12Speaker 2: This isn't about clock management. This is about this is
- 9:15Speaker 2: gonna become a shootout and we need to score. And
- 9:18Speaker 2: he panicked and that's why he didn't run enough.
- 9:21Speaker 1: I think those are all fair points. I think they're
- 9:25Speaker 1: all fair second guesses. Like Evan you know, said, like
- 9:28Speaker 1: you know, how well they ran the ball, I don't
- 9:30Speaker 1: think and I might be given too much credit. Maybe
- 9:33Speaker 1: this is too rosy of a look. I don't think
- 9:34Speaker 1: Josh McDaniels looked at the second half and said, we
- 9:38Speaker 1: don't want to run the ball this half. I think
- 9:40Speaker 1: I don't think that was the game plan coming out
- 9:42Speaker 1: of the locker room. I'm like, they come out the
- 9:44Speaker 1: first drive, Okay, so the Buffalo goes down, makes it
- 9:47Speaker 1: twenty four to fourteen. First play, they hand the ball
- 9:49Speaker 1: off minus one. Okay. So now it's second eleven, you
- 9:52Speaker 1: got to throw, it's incomplete, Third and eleven you got
- 9:55Speaker 1: to throw. You get sacked, so you go three and out.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Obviously not ideal, okay, but no one would argue with
- 10:00Speaker 1: the play selection on that on those particular three plays,
- 10:04Speaker 1: right would anybody say second and eleven you'd run again?
- 10:07Speaker 5: Uh?
- 10:09Speaker 2: Continue, I mean, but it's it's reasonable to say, let's
- 10:14Speaker 2: start throwing the ball.
- 10:15Speaker 1: I'm not saying let's I don't think the decision was.
- 10:19Speaker 2: I'm just talking about that.
- 10:20Speaker 1: On second and eleven, I think, yeah, ninety nine out
- 10:24Speaker 1: of one hundred plays in the NFL, on second and eleven,
- 10:26Speaker 1: you're going to throw the ball. Okay, probably not. I'm
- 10:29Speaker 1: not telling.
- 10:30Speaker 6: You, I'm not asking him to throw the I hate
- 10:32Speaker 6: throwing the ball on second long are running it on
- 10:34Speaker 6: second and that's.
- 10:35Speaker 1: Why I wouldn't do that.
- 10:36Speaker 6: But you still have to look at it as you
- 10:40Speaker 6: know what, what's what's the goal here, Like you have
- 10:43Speaker 6: a seventeen point lead at halftimes, trying to possess the
- 10:45Speaker 6: ball at that point.
- 10:47Speaker 1: Please don't take this as like, oh, he's in the
- 10:49Speaker 1: he's in the pocket for Josh because he likes Okay,
- 10:52Speaker 1: so now you go. You end up going three and o,
- 10:55Speaker 1: which to me was that that was the light switch
- 10:58Speaker 1: in my head that said it's game on now, right
- 11:01Speaker 1: because now it's twenty four to fourteen, they're going to
- 11:03Speaker 1: get the ball back, and now they heat it up,
- 11:05Speaker 1: they feel it, they've scored the last two times they've
- 11:08Speaker 1: had the ball. Sure enough they got on to make
- 11:10Speaker 1: it twenty four to twenty one. Now I think it's
- 11:12Speaker 1: very fair on that next drive. And we talked about
- 11:15Speaker 1: this on Sunday. I went down the list when we
- 11:17Speaker 1: got calls on Sunday said they got very conservative in
- 11:19Speaker 1: the second half, and I said, you're out of your mind. Yeah,
- 11:21Speaker 1: it was the complete opposite. And we went down the
- 11:23Speaker 1: playlist past pass, pass pass pal on that second drive
- 11:29Speaker 1: of the second half, which was really the only drive
- 11:31Speaker 1: they had in the second half. Yeah, they had it.
- 11:34Speaker 4: They started moving sixteen yard to Stevenson in the flat.
- 11:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Yeah. So now this is where I think Evan's second
- 11:40Speaker 1: guests of the run I think is legit, because they
- 11:42Speaker 1: started throwing almost exclusively from that point on. Again, I
- 11:46Speaker 1: don't think that Josh winning at the half and said
- 11:49Speaker 1: we neither. We ran it all over them in the
- 11:50Speaker 1: first half. We don't need to do that anymore. It's
- 11:52Speaker 1: time to throw it now. I think that's just kind
- 11:54Speaker 1: of all of a sudden the game situation. Yeah right.
- 11:58Speaker 1: In other words, I don't think it was anyone fault.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Sometimes we don't feel good unless we can point a
- 12:03Speaker 1: finger and say Robert Splaine didn't play, that's why we lost.
- 12:06Speaker 1: Or Milton Williams didn't play, that's why we lost. Josh
- 12:09Speaker 1: mcdinials didn't run the ball, that's why we lost. I
- 12:12Speaker 1: just think it's I don't there's a lot of things
- 12:14Speaker 1: that happen in this game, and that's why.
- 12:15Speaker 2: The other team is out there too.
- 12:17Speaker 6: I just think that it's it's coupled with the fact
- 12:20Speaker 6: that they didn't have a whole lot of passing game answers. Either, Like,
- 12:24Speaker 6: it's not just the fact that they didn't run the ball,
- 12:26Speaker 6: that's what I want to. Like, I kind of feel
- 12:28Speaker 6: like that's I don't want to call it lazy, but
- 12:30Speaker 6: like it's easy to point to it's low hanging fruit
- 12:33Speaker 6: to sit here and say they only ran it three
- 12:34Speaker 6: times in the second half.
- 12:35Speaker 2: Right, So that's what I want to That's exactly, but
- 12:38Speaker 2: that's how I started, Like what would have been the
- 12:41Speaker 2: coverage beaters in the pass games.
- 12:43Speaker 6: So usually when you play teams that play a lot
- 12:45Speaker 6: of two man coverage, which is just man coverage underneath
- 12:49Speaker 6: with two high safeties, they're going to take inside leverage
- 12:52Speaker 6: because they have the safeties over the top, so they
- 12:54Speaker 6: have help on the outside, right, So what they're what
- 12:57Speaker 6: they're normally what you would look to do is throw outbreakers,
- 13:01Speaker 6: right because you have the guys are sitting inside of
- 13:04Speaker 6: the receiver, so if you run out then you're technically
- 13:07Speaker 6: running away from the leverage.
- 13:09Speaker 4: They did that on the throw to Hunter.
- 13:10Speaker 6: Henry and Drake just missed the throw and Henry got
- 13:13Speaker 6: hands on the ball probably what feels like he could
- 13:16Speaker 6: have caught it as well.
- 13:17Speaker 4: But the throws behind him right, and it's causing.
- 13:20Speaker 6: Him to make a more difficult adjustment and catch than
- 13:23Speaker 6: he probably needed to in that spot. But that's usually
- 13:26Speaker 6: the answer to two man is to throw outside the numb.
- 13:31Speaker 2: So let's go back to Mike Vrabel on Monday. I
- 13:35Speaker 2: think it was people asked him about somebody else playing
- 13:39Speaker 2: better and I think on the defense, and he felt
- 13:43Speaker 2: it necessary to insert that our quarterback need to play
- 13:46Speaker 2: better too.
- 13:47Speaker 1: Yeah, it was an interesting answer, and so you.
- 13:49Speaker 2: Know, I kind of agree, and I said it on
- 13:52Speaker 2: the postgames show. I know this is going to be sacrilegious,
- 13:55Speaker 2: I said, but I don't think Drake may played well. Yeah,
- 13:58Speaker 2: and I you know, I think that bears that out.
- 14:01Speaker 6: Especially great start, especially in the second half, but even
- 14:05Speaker 6: the first half, a lot of it was him running
- 14:07Speaker 6: his runs right, the two red zone runs in the
- 14:09Speaker 6: seventeen yard scramble, which was just ridiculous. But the second
- 14:13Speaker 6: half was not good.
- 14:15Speaker 2: So is this something where you know you're having trouble
- 14:18Speaker 2: finding receivers, you know you have been a little inaccurate.
- 14:21Speaker 2: I mean, he's not stupid. He knows when he's thrown
- 14:23Speaker 2: behind guys. Should he have taken off a little bit more.
- 14:27Speaker 3: That's what I was, well, that's what I was going
- 14:28Speaker 3: to say, and I mean, you know, and I Paul
- 14:30Speaker 3: laid it out perfectly, and sometimes situation in the way
- 14:32Speaker 3: the game unfolds. But again, you know cover two taking
- 14:35Speaker 3: advantage of that like boxes, being able to run the
- 14:37Speaker 3: ball with your running backs, but also with Drake a
- 14:38Speaker 3: little bit. I mean, I think that would be an
- 14:40Speaker 3: opportunity where you've got them playing two man, they got
- 14:42Speaker 3: two guys high and the rest of them are sticking
- 14:44Speaker 3: with their receivers. You know, there might be creative ways.
- 14:47Speaker 3: And that's why I just look to this is an
- 14:50Speaker 3: experienced game to me, not only for what it's like
- 14:52Speaker 3: to go against a really good quarterback and it got
- 14:54Speaker 3: to have a type situation, but also just exposing Drake
- 14:57Speaker 3: to more and more kind of coverages and you know,
- 14:59Speaker 3: to have point next time if they play Buffalo, the
- 15:01Speaker 3: game plan is going to include, you know, being ready
- 15:04Speaker 3: for this kind of stuff, whether they do it right
- 15:05Speaker 3: out of the gate or they switched to it at halftime.
- 15:07Speaker 3: But I I it's just you wish they could have
- 15:11Speaker 3: run the ball a little bit more, eat up the clock,
- 15:13Speaker 3: get them out of the cover too, bring them bring
- 15:15Speaker 3: a guy into the box, you know, get them thinking
- 15:17Speaker 3: about the run. And I understand what Paul said the
- 15:19Speaker 3: way and unfolded. It's hard to break and especially then
- 15:22Speaker 3: all of a sudden, it's then it's a three point
- 15:24Speaker 3: game all of a sudden, you know, and then you're
- 15:25Speaker 3: down and the pressure to throw bills and it's just
- 15:28Speaker 3: it's hard to break.
- 15:29Speaker 1: The possess the ball in the second half enough to
- 15:31Speaker 1: do anything. Yeah, well, yeah, I think.
- 15:33Speaker 6: There might have been a few opportunities for him to
- 15:36Speaker 6: run and store. Like by the letter of the law,
- 15:40Speaker 6: it would make sense to run against two men like
- 15:42Speaker 6: That's usually why you don't get away with playing two
- 15:45Speaker 6: man against a mobile quarterback is because it's the quarterback,
- 15:48Speaker 6: because there's nobody left to take the quarterback. Now, Buffalo
- 15:51Speaker 6: did spy him a couple of times, and I.
- 15:54Speaker 1: Thought they were effective. Yeah, in this game doing I
- 15:57Speaker 1: made mentioned a couple of times they had some fatties
- 15:59Speaker 1: that have angled him to the sideline. That guys that
- 16:02Speaker 1: normally said in the game, I said it twice. I
- 16:06Speaker 1: was like, that guy did a pretty good job of
- 16:07Speaker 1: making sure he couldn't get up the sideline. He wasn't
- 16:10Speaker 1: going to sack him because Drake was too athletic. But
- 16:13Speaker 1: he made him throw the ball away or he made
- 16:15Speaker 1: him at one point, he made him just go out
- 16:16Speaker 1: of bounds. And on the deciding play, the fourth down,
- 16:20Speaker 1: I thought Joey Bosa could not have played that play
- 16:22Speaker 1: any better. And you might say, well, he should be
- 16:24Speaker 1: able to beat Joey Bosa in space. Maybe he would have,
- 16:27Speaker 1: but I think he would have slowed him down enough
- 16:28Speaker 1: that Drake wouldn't have gotten the first down. He would
- 16:31Speaker 1: have had to do what he did on the play
- 16:32Speaker 1: that Evan was talking about, the seventeen yard run. That
- 16:34Speaker 1: was just ridiculous. He would have had to make a
- 16:36Speaker 1: ridiculous play. Now, maybe he would have. Maybe he would have,
- 16:39Speaker 1: but I think that you'd be really really being critical
- 16:43Speaker 1: right now if he had tucked that to try to
- 16:45Speaker 1: run on fourth down whatever it was, fourth and six. Yeah, yeah,
- 16:47Speaker 1: and he doesn't make it. Yeah, at least he tried
- 16:49Speaker 1: to make a play. And Joey Bosa, Yeah, and we
- 16:52Speaker 1: give him credit. He's a good player and he made
- 16:54Speaker 1: a good play on that fourth down play. Yeah.
- 16:56Speaker 6: They were kind of I don't know if you want
- 16:59Speaker 6: to call it true droppy, but they were. They were
- 17:01Speaker 6: rushing three guys and they're keeping the fourth guy as
- 17:05Speaker 6: kind of a spy. But he was near the line
- 17:07Speaker 6: of scrimmage. Yes, and Mulato did it a couple of
- 17:09Speaker 6: times and actually got sacks on it because eventually the
- 17:12Speaker 6: pocket just kind of collapsed and and they sacked him.
- 17:14Speaker 6: And you know, they were just kind of hanging out
- 17:17Speaker 6: by the line.
- 17:17Speaker 4: Where they were.
- 17:18Speaker 6: They were in the rush, but they weren't fully rushing,
- 17:21Speaker 6: and they were kind of just mirroring him in the
- 17:23Speaker 6: pocket as a spy.
- 17:25Speaker 2: They had.
- 17:25Speaker 6: The second half was a great plan by Buffalo, like
- 17:28Speaker 6: they their coaches deserve. Krevit body Babbage is a good,
- 17:32Speaker 6: good defensive coordinator. Mcdermot's a great defensive mind, has been
- 17:35Speaker 6: for a long time. Like they they won, they won
- 17:38Speaker 6: the chess match.
- 17:39Speaker 2: The no doubt about these two teams meet again. It's
- 17:43Speaker 2: gonna be fascinating.
- 17:44Speaker 1: That'll be a big part of it.
- 17:45Speaker 2: It's gonna be the ultimate chess match, so.
- 17:47Speaker 1: Real, real quick. And I just I don't think much
- 17:51Speaker 1: of Buffalo's defense in general. I'm like most people like
- 17:54Speaker 1: they get up a lot of points. Certainly you can
- 17:57Speaker 1: run on them, but they do have some things that
- 18:00Speaker 1: statistically really stand out in the past defense. Mike and
- 18:03Speaker 1: I were talking about this as we're walking back to
- 18:04Speaker 1: the cars the other night. Freezing out took us this off.
- 18:09Speaker 1: The first I remember the first game You're welcome. Yeah,
- 18:13Speaker 1: the first game that they played was in my mind,
- 18:17Speaker 1: the most whatever you want to call them, plus throws
- 18:21Speaker 1: or tight window throw, whatever jargon you want to throw.
- 18:25Speaker 1: That was the most of those throws that Drake made
- 18:29Speaker 1: was in the second half of the Buffalo game. It
- 18:31Speaker 1: probably a half dozen that like wow throws. He had
- 18:36Speaker 1: to make those wild throws again in this game, and
- 18:39Speaker 1: like Evan said, a little behind Hunter Henry on one.
- 18:43Speaker 1: That throw in the first game was perfect, tight coverage
- 18:48Speaker 1: on third and twelve, but the throw was perfect, and
- 18:50Speaker 1: Hunter Henry makes the catch or maybe he sees digs
- 18:53Speaker 1: on the sideline on that scramble and makes the throw.
- 18:56Speaker 1: On this game just wasn't quite as shot. I know
- 19:00Speaker 1: I'm gonna sound and that can be the difference.
- 19:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I know I'm gonna sound like what do you know?
- 19:05Speaker 2: But mechanically he just didn't look like he was driving
- 19:07Speaker 2: the ball. He looked a little tentative on his throats.
- 19:11Speaker 6: I thought he just was a little confused about what
- 19:13Speaker 6: he was looking at.
- 19:16Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 19:16Speaker 6: I don't think that they're like I know a lot
- 19:18Speaker 6: of people are, you know, pointing to maybe the weather
- 19:21Speaker 6: or or him just you know, having some sprays and
- 19:24Speaker 6: not throwing the ball particularly well.
- 19:26Speaker 4: I saw a lot of just uncertainty.
- 19:30Speaker 6: The tentativeness, not one hundred percent seeing the field very well.
- 19:34Speaker 6: You know, you see, we saw it back in camp,
- 19:36Speaker 6: like when he does those double clutches, and like we
- 19:39Speaker 6: we've seen him enough now that you kind of just
- 19:41Speaker 6: know what it looks like when he's just first.
- 19:43Speaker 7: Half of the Cincinnati Yeah, a couple of those kinds
- 19:46Speaker 7: of you know, he had one he took a sack
- 19:48Speaker 7: and like Kyle Williams is coming open on an incut
- 19:51Speaker 7: like behind the linebackers, and like if he's feeling it,
- 19:54Speaker 7: he's just.
- 19:55Speaker 4: Layering that thing in there every single time.
- 19:57Speaker 6: And he did one of the double clutches and then
- 19:59Speaker 6: he felt the pressure and he just went down and
- 20:01Speaker 6: I was like, oh, do you think there it is?
- 20:04Speaker 2: You know, during the week it was drilled into too much,
- 20:07Speaker 2: this is a game, we can't turn the ball over,
- 20:09Speaker 2: and that that was in his head.
- 20:12Speaker 3: I don't know, I hope not, because I think that's
- 20:14Speaker 3: a bad way to go into a game against the Bills,
- 20:16Speaker 3: where you just there's gonna be big plays, there's gonna
- 20:19Speaker 3: be mistakes. You just have to kind of cut it
- 20:21Speaker 3: loose and not get too tight, you know. I mean,
- 20:24Speaker 3: I know what you're getting at that he went in tight.
- 20:26Speaker 3: I would say maybe that happened in the locker room,
- 20:27Speaker 3: and we talked about that at halftime, where you know,
- 20:30Speaker 3: it was how we were feeling.
- 20:31Speaker 1: It's like, oh my god, just don't screw it up.
- 20:32Speaker 3: You got a huge lead, you know, but I still
- 20:35Speaker 3: knew that they had a chance to get into it.
- 20:37Speaker 3: But maybe he got a little tight. You know, maybe
- 20:39Speaker 3: it's right there for the taking. Just don't screw it up,
- 20:42Speaker 3: you know, when you get to that mode, whereas you know,
- 20:43Speaker 3: maybe it was tied at halftime, you're going in like
- 20:46Speaker 3: we're in a dogfight, guys, we got to give it
- 20:47Speaker 3: everything we have, and you know, maybe it's a little different.
- 20:49Speaker 1: I don't know, but I think there was a weird
- 20:51Speaker 1: dynamic in sports, but football in particular, when you have
- 20:55Speaker 1: that really big lead at the half, it's almost like
- 20:58Speaker 1: you can't blow this one right, you know, And that
- 21:01Speaker 1: you see it every once in a while. You know,
- 21:04Speaker 1: I'm not telling you it happens all the time. Twenty
- 21:06Speaker 1: one nothing leads go away. But I don't think it's
- 21:09Speaker 1: that rare for teams that are you know, I'm not
- 21:13Speaker 1: talking vople talking about like the Eagles blowing out the
- 21:16Speaker 1: Raiders on Sunday, you know, because there's so much better
- 21:19Speaker 1: than the Raiders I'm talking about, you know. You know
- 21:21Speaker 1: the Patriots and Broncos game that night, Sunday night game
- 21:25Speaker 1: was freezing cold. It's like twenty four to nothing, twenty
- 21:28Speaker 1: four to three. I was there. These are pretty even, yeah,
- 21:30Speaker 1: but I think it was twenty four nothing at one point.
- 21:32Speaker 8: Yeah, twenty four three and a half times, and it's it's,
- 21:34Speaker 8: you know, these are two good teams, Like you don't
- 21:36Speaker 8: expect one of them to be twenty four points ahead
- 21:38Speaker 8: of the other, and you know, like Jesus, we're kind
- 21:42Speaker 8: of blowing them out here, you know, and you see
- 21:44Speaker 8: it like.
- 21:44Speaker 1: There's an EBB and a flow. It's almost like an
- 21:46Speaker 1: NBA game, like everybody makes a run, you know. So
- 21:50Speaker 1: I did think Buffalo would eventually offensively make a run.
- 21:54Speaker 1: I just thought the Patriots would be able to score
- 21:56Speaker 1: enough to keep them at bay, and it just never happened.
- 21:58Speaker 3: Knew exactly what you were saying a half time where
- 22:00Speaker 3: it was like, I mean, it just seemed like the
- 22:01Speaker 3: Bills had no answer for the Patriots, even you know,
- 22:03Speaker 3: getting the field goal right at the end. It's just, man,
- 22:05Speaker 3: they're moving the ball at will they get what they're doing,
- 22:08Speaker 3: you know, it's it's there. They might only score a
- 22:09Speaker 3: couple of touchdowns in the second half, but that should
- 22:11Speaker 3: be enough, especially if you possess the ball for you know,
- 22:14Speaker 3: five six seven minute drive that bubble.
- 22:17Speaker 1: It wasn't even about points as much to me as
- 22:19Speaker 1: it was about you know, just possessed the ball a
- 22:21Speaker 1: little bit and there won't be enough time to make
- 22:22Speaker 1: it control of the game.
- 22:24Speaker 2: My final, my prediction should have come out thirty one.
- 22:27Speaker 2: That should have been the finals prediction.
- 22:29Speaker 3: I mean through that lens though, ev Like, is that
- 22:32Speaker 3: just a really kind of ballsy choice by Buffalo to say,
- 22:35Speaker 3: in the second half we're going to cover two now,
- 22:37Speaker 3: you know, and they run the ball on us a
- 22:39Speaker 3: little bit, we're going to take somebody out of that.
- 22:40Speaker 6: Like, to me, that's when I think of a Sean
- 22:43Speaker 6: McDermott defense. I think of overfronts, nickel and cover two
- 22:47Speaker 6: and like that's that's that's the base of their defense
- 22:50Speaker 6: and has been really since he was in Carolina with
- 22:53Speaker 6: the cam Panthers and stuff like that, and Josh Norman
- 22:56Speaker 6: picking off passes and cover two all day long.
- 22:58Speaker 1: Which surprised me a little bit was just how infrequently
- 23:02Speaker 1: they went after him, because like that's another like I
- 23:04Speaker 1: don't know all of the excess no's that Evan talks about,
- 23:07Speaker 1: but I think is Sean McDermott coming from like Jimmy
- 23:09Speaker 1: Johnson and just being really aggressive and that that's they
- 23:12Speaker 1: certainly went after him in the first game they went out.
- 23:14Speaker 1: Maybe they just looked at it and said, you know,
- 23:17Speaker 1: we can't do that again because he beat that the
- 23:19Speaker 1: last time. Because I don't think they were overly aggressive
- 23:22Speaker 1: from a pass rush standpoint no in the game, and
- 23:25Speaker 1: I think the past protection by the way, I thought
- 23:28Speaker 1: that the offensive line was really good in this.
- 23:29Speaker 6: Game, probably one of their best games of the year.
- 23:32Speaker 6: But just last night this was probably a Catch twenty
- 23:34Speaker 6: two conversation more.
- 23:36Speaker 9: But there's a lot of like above us, no, no,
- 23:39Speaker 9: I took no, not above you guys, just like very nerdy,
- 23:43Speaker 9: uh the there's a conversation right now amongst the ball
- 23:47Speaker 9: knowers about progression reads versus coverage reads. So progression reads
- 23:51Speaker 9: are just a simple one, two, three, right, Like, just
- 23:54Speaker 9: you're starting at one, you're.
- 23:55Speaker 6: Going If he's not open, you're going to two. If
- 23:57Speaker 6: he's not open, you're going to three. Coverage reads is
- 24:00Speaker 6: is it man?
- 24:00Speaker 4: Is its zone?
- 24:01Speaker 6: Is it one high? Is it too high? And that's
- 24:03Speaker 6: where we're going to start the progression It.
- 24:04Speaker 2: Determines, right.
- 24:06Speaker 6: So when you see something pre snapt it, yeah, I
- 24:11Speaker 6: knew you guys would understand.
- 24:12Speaker 4: I just thought it was a little bit jargoning.
- 24:15Speaker 1: When you see.
- 24:16Speaker 6: Pre snap one thing and then the defense goes and
- 24:19Speaker 6: changes the picture into something different post snap.
- 24:22Speaker 1: It's not just the quarterback, it's also.
- 24:24Speaker 6: The receivers, it's it's all everybody in the passing game
- 24:28Speaker 6: has to see it the same way. And even at
- 24:31Speaker 6: the end, I would say with Brady, this McDermott defense
- 24:34Speaker 6: gave Brady some trouble too, because not because it was
- 24:38Speaker 6: taking down Brady, it was taking down.
- 24:40Speaker 1: The system right where they have all.
- 24:43Speaker 6: Of these different types of coverage reads and option routes
- 24:46Speaker 6: and all this different stuff going on. And when you're
- 24:49Speaker 6: on different pages. It's just hard to execute that.
- 24:52Speaker 2: That makes complete sense, which to me lends more to
- 24:56Speaker 2: the idea of making a backyard school, you know, game
- 24:59Speaker 2: and running the ball. Drake just just make it backyard football.
- 25:02Speaker 6: Well, to Paul's point about week five, you know, Drake
- 25:06Speaker 6: just said ef it right and just started playing out
- 25:08Speaker 6: of structure. And I think that that is there's some
- 25:12Speaker 6: truth to that. Now you don't want to live out
- 25:14Speaker 6: of structure.
- 25:14Speaker 1: It's not, but it.
- 25:15Speaker 2: Keeps them honest and now you can get back to
- 25:17Speaker 2: your system right.
- 25:19Speaker 6: And in the first half, I think they just kind
- 25:21Speaker 6: of sat in single high safety. They kind of knew
- 25:24Speaker 6: what was coming, they were seeing it well, and then
- 25:26Speaker 6: all of a sudden the second half, everybody looked confused.
- 25:29Speaker 4: Even Digs a couple of times.
- 25:31Speaker 1: I want to ask you, because there's been a couple
- 25:34Speaker 1: of comments that I've seen from the AT and t's
- 25:37Speaker 1: that have indicated that he didn't look sharp running his routes.
- 25:41Speaker 6: Yeah, him and Hunter Henry were just kind of running
- 25:43Speaker 6: into coverage the entire second half in an uncharacteristic way.
- 25:47Speaker 6: So I just think a lot of this has to
- 25:49Speaker 6: do with, you know, the system and it again specifically
- 25:54Speaker 6: this type of defense that Buffalo runs. But again, like
- 25:57Speaker 6: from what I said at the beginning, I think it's
- 25:59Speaker 6: a good thing that this is what we're talking about.
- 26:01Speaker 6: This is not about the fact that Buffalo just was
- 26:05Speaker 6: the much more talented or the much better team. We're
- 26:07Speaker 6: actually talking about like the minutia of the chess match
- 26:11Speaker 6: at the game, and this is why the Patriots lost.
- 26:13Speaker 6: And I'd say the same thing with the kickoff coverage,
- 26:15Speaker 6: which we can get to at some point too, Like.
- 26:17Speaker 1: That's a that's a definitee catch twenty ten.
- 26:21Speaker 6: This is all like x's and o's that we're disgusting,
- 26:25Speaker 6: which like in the past five years it's been Buffalo's
- 26:28Speaker 6: just much better than us. Yeah right, and there's really
- 26:30Speaker 6: no chance. Yeah, this was they got out foxed a.
- 26:33Speaker 4: Little bit in the second half of this game, not
- 26:35Speaker 4: just a little bit.
- 26:35Speaker 2: So that's why I say that third meeting, if it happens,
- 26:38Speaker 2: will be really intriguing.
- 26:39Speaker 1: Yes, schematically it'd be interesting.
- 26:40Speaker 3: I still came out of this game feeling like the
- 26:42Speaker 3: Patriots defense needs an upgrade and talent in the offseason
- 26:46Speaker 3: and going back to what Houston did, and I mean, look,
- 26:49Speaker 3: I'm not gonna say, they're going to get will Anderson
- 26:51Speaker 3: out there, but you see the impact of a disruptive
- 26:55Speaker 3: defensive vent who is just a problem every single play.
- 26:58Speaker 1: And the Patriots don't have one of those guys.
- 27:01Speaker 3: I mean when it was really clicking with Williams and
- 27:03Speaker 3: Barmore at the early like and Landry was healthy and
- 27:06Speaker 3: Chase was like, yeah, it looked something like that, but
- 27:09Speaker 3: that doesn't matter. Now they got they gotta find, you know,
- 27:11Speaker 3: more talented, you know, deal with these guys for.
- 27:13Speaker 2: Some you know, some weird reason. This game had a
- 27:17Speaker 2: fifth quarter and both teams had time, you know, a
- 27:20Speaker 2: chance to regroup, go to the locker room, come back
- 27:23Speaker 2: out and play another quarter. I don't think it would
- 27:25Speaker 2: have been a lot different. I don't think the Patriots
- 27:27Speaker 2: defense had an answer at that point.
- 27:29Speaker 1: No.
- 27:30Speaker 3: I mean, I've seen Drake have some slow starts when
- 27:33Speaker 3: Paul talked about the Cincinnati game and kind of turns
- 27:35Speaker 3: it around and you know, bounces back and starts to
- 27:37Speaker 3: make some throws. But I but I I think everything
- 27:39Speaker 3: we're saying I agree with it.
- 27:40Speaker 1: Just they felt like they were off they got off track.
- 27:42Speaker 3: It was it wasn't an amount of time, they just
- 27:44Speaker 3: they needed to they needed to find a special play
- 27:47Speaker 3: on defense or offense that they just never got.
- 27:49Speaker 6: I was more disappointed with the defense film than the offense,
- 27:52Speaker 6: because at least the offense had the first half to
- 27:54Speaker 6: hang its hat on, you know, like, all right, we
- 27:56Speaker 6: got you know, kind of worked in the second half,
- 27:58Speaker 6: but that first half was that was cinema. Like watching
- 28:02Speaker 6: that run blocking was really impressive, really impressive. Uh, you
- 28:06Speaker 6: know season highs and yards before contact. Uh, you know,
- 28:10Speaker 6: rushing yards like just all the way down the board.
- 28:13Speaker 1: Uh.
- 28:13Speaker 4: They they really did play well in the first half.
- 28:15Speaker 6: Defensively this game, they were all out of sorts, like
- 28:19Speaker 6: they uh, they were not on their details. They weren't
- 28:23Speaker 6: on their fundamentals. They're busting coverages, the techniques. I didn't
- 28:27Speaker 6: want to go there. They weren't DTF And you know,
- 28:34Speaker 6: A variable talks about it yesterday, like.
- 28:36Speaker 4: The rush coordination.
- 28:38Speaker 1: What do you think it means fundamental.
- 28:40Speaker 6: Their rush coordination on certain plays like where guys are
- 28:44Speaker 6: just kind of running into each other, or like one
- 28:47Speaker 6: line side of the lines running a stunt, but the
- 28:49Speaker 6: other side of the line ain't running the same stunt.
- 28:51Speaker 6: And you know, the the Knox touchdown was that like
- 28:54Speaker 6: it just it was not a very well coordinated defense
- 28:58Speaker 6: on Sunday.
- 28:59Speaker 2: So was it just pointing loss, But not the end
- 29:01Speaker 2: of the world. The Patriots can still clinch a playoff
- 29:04Speaker 2: berth with a win next week against the Ravens or
- 29:07Speaker 2: if Houston or the Colts lose or tie, they can
- 29:11Speaker 2: still clinch that playoff berth. Rather do it by winning,
- 29:15Speaker 2: and they can even clinch the AFC East. But even
- 29:18Speaker 2: if they lose next week, if they win the last
- 29:21Speaker 2: two against the Dolphins and the Jets, they can still
- 29:24Speaker 2: have the AFC East. So there's still a lot of
- 29:28Speaker 2: good football left to play here. Even though this was.
- 29:31Speaker 6: When they sees if they win the next two weeks
- 29:33Speaker 6: and the Bills lose to the Eagles.
- 29:34Speaker 1: They win. Yeah.
- 29:37Speaker 3: I like to watch the little of that Pittsburgh Miami
- 29:39Speaker 3: game last night. It made me feel a little better
- 29:40Speaker 3: because coming out of this game, it just felt like
- 29:42Speaker 3: this is all lining up to me, like a game
- 29:45Speaker 3: for the AFC East against the Dolphins in Week eighteen
- 29:47Speaker 3: right here.
- 29:48Speaker 1: But watching the Dolphins last night, they looked a little cold.
- 29:51Speaker 3: They didn't you know, it didn't look like they were
- 29:53Speaker 3: you know, they already got knocked out of the playoffs obviously,
- 29:55Speaker 3: even Pittsburgh. It's like it's not all that impressive, and
- 29:58Speaker 3: you know, you're reminded that the AFC playoff field this
- 30:01Speaker 3: year it's a it's a full of you know, I.
- 30:05Speaker 2: Did want to bring up one point, you know, because
- 30:07Speaker 2: everyone's saying all the bit the best teams are in
- 30:08Speaker 2: the NFC. The only silver lining of the Broncos, you know,
- 30:12Speaker 2: beating Green Bay is that, okay, AFC team one of
- 30:16Speaker 2: the you know, the better teams in the NFC, flat out,
- 30:19Speaker 2: you know, even though it's in Denver, so.
- 30:21Speaker 3: Classic like this a perfect Green Bay, like just perfect
- 30:24Speaker 3: one of their games, Like they kill the bad teams
- 30:27Speaker 3: and then they get into like a team with a
- 30:28Speaker 3: pulse and all of a sudden they just top.
- 30:30Speaker 1: But this year for them, it's been the opposite, is it.
- 30:32Speaker 1: They've lost to They've lost that home, they lost to Cleveland,
- 30:36Speaker 1: they lost that home to Carolina, you know, and beating
- 30:39Speaker 1: the bag out of Detroit, you know, like so this
- 30:41Speaker 1: year it's been a little different. But I said before
- 30:44Speaker 1: the game, I said on Thursday, I'm not a believer
- 30:46Speaker 1: in the quarterback. I think he's very up and down.
- 30:48Speaker 1: Be careful, I know I'm not. I'm not a believer
- 30:51Speaker 1: in Jordan Love. I'm just not in Packers boat Knicks.
- 30:55Speaker 2: I mean, listen, for Denver, that's a that should is
- 31:00Speaker 2: that's you know, I I've always I've thought they'd been
- 31:04Speaker 2: good for a while, but a lot of people really
- 31:06Speaker 2: doubted them. You shouldn't. You shouldn't doubt them.
- 31:08Speaker 3: Now it's a good win for for Denver for sure.
- 31:10Speaker 3: And I mean they're getting close to locking this thing
- 31:12Speaker 3: up to get that that valuable first round by so
- 31:15Speaker 3: you know it's somebody's gonna have to go to Denver.
- 31:17Speaker 1: Fred to two out of three they would need to win, right, Yeah,
- 31:21Speaker 1: so minimum the Patriots, the Ravens, I think it's pretty
- 31:25Speaker 1: much done.
- 31:25Speaker 4: They were down in their game against the Packers.
- 31:27Speaker 6: Didn't watch much of it, but down nine. Yeah, they
- 31:30Speaker 6: were down in the second half, came back there. They
- 31:32Speaker 6: are another team that's kind of been a second half team.
- 31:34Speaker 2: Who is this?
- 31:35Speaker 1: Denver down nine and Green Bay had the ball.
- 31:38Speaker 3: Yeah, Parsons towards a cl I was late, got hurt late.
- 31:43Speaker 2: Who Nick says nuts?
- 31:45Speaker 1: Yeah, Well, I mean he's much better generally with the
- 31:48Speaker 1: game on line. This particular game, he was pretty good
- 31:50Speaker 1: the whole ball.
- 31:51Speaker 3: So how good would your quarterback play if he only
- 31:54Speaker 3: played in his home stadium?
- 31:55Speaker 1: Though, that's true me, it is the Patriot three times.
- 32:00Speaker 6: His first and second half was especially his like even
- 32:03Speaker 6: his first three quarters versus just the fourth quarter. He's
- 32:06Speaker 6: like like bottom ten quarterback in the first three quarters
- 32:10Speaker 6: and then a top ten quarterback in the drake. Yeah,
- 32:13Speaker 6: it's pretty credible.
- 32:14Speaker 1: Yeah, he does give you some chances though, he'll he'll yeah,
- 32:17Speaker 1: you know, he's very to those defensive like he's just
- 32:20Speaker 1: got a very high energy rate to him.
- 32:22Speaker 3: And yeah, sometimes there's there's stores that make you scratch
- 32:25Speaker 3: your head, but then there are other you.
- 32:26Speaker 1: Got away against the Packers. Yeah, a couple of ping bongs, like.
- 32:30Speaker 6: We're just gonna gloss over the last We're not doing that.
- 32:35Speaker 4: Okay.
- 32:36Speaker 1: I went and looked at the told Brandon was back. No,
- 32:41Speaker 1: I don't know. They ran they ran a power in
- 32:43Speaker 1: school or cleaning it up on the kickoff offensive lineman
- 32:47Speaker 1: at the point of attack running duo.
- 32:49Speaker 3: Now I had to see because I mean Brabel said,
- 32:51Speaker 3: you know was yesterday pointed out like that they do
- 32:54Speaker 3: talk the new scheme on him or you know, it
- 32:56Speaker 3: was a new kind of play and so I'm like, well,
- 32:57Speaker 3: I got to see what this looks like. And you
- 32:59Speaker 3: know what, isn't hard to figure out exactly what they
- 33:02Speaker 3: were doing. It's just it's interesting because it's so obvious
- 33:05Speaker 3: what they're doing. But you catch a team unawares and
- 33:07Speaker 3: you get that little angle and they're gone. And then
- 33:09Speaker 3: they went back to just kind of a regular right
- 33:11Speaker 3: up the middle, and then that was the last one
- 33:13Speaker 3: that they had.
- 33:13Speaker 6: So yeah, now he now leads the league and kickoff
- 33:18Speaker 6: return averages. You could probably little juice, yeah, probably could imagine.
- 33:21Speaker 6: But man, they just in all three phases, Like, I
- 33:24Speaker 6: feel like they just got kind of out coached. And
- 33:27Speaker 6: I'm honestly pretty surprised because I think McDermott's a good coach.
- 33:32Speaker 6: I think Rabel's a better coach, and I am surprised
- 33:36Speaker 6: that this was sort of what happened. Like I really
- 33:40Speaker 6: thought the Patriots with Buffalo moving forward, would have a
- 33:43Speaker 6: coaching advantage, and I don't think that that's how it
- 33:46Speaker 6: unfolded on Sunday.
- 33:47Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I said in the postgame show, we are You.
- 33:49Speaker 1: Usually you're talking about the special teams.
- 33:51Speaker 3: It's a miskick or a blocked punt, you know, it's
- 33:54Speaker 3: never usually your kickoff cost three times three times. They
- 33:58Speaker 3: especially right out of the third quarter where already felt
- 34:00Speaker 3: like okay, guys, like you know, we gotta we gotta
- 34:03Speaker 3: turn the momentum around here, and boom right off the.
- 34:05Speaker 1: Bat, it's like, you know what, all right? You know,
- 34:07Speaker 1: they go down and score and make a twenty four
- 34:09Speaker 1: to fourteen and make them take six or seven minutes.
- 34:11Speaker 1: You're give them the ball at midfield and it's like
- 34:13Speaker 1: they're halfway there.
- 34:14Speaker 6: Well, their first two touchdown drives were off of big
- 34:16Speaker 6: kickoff returns and it only had.
- 34:18Speaker 1: To go like forty yards forty two and forty four.
- 34:21Speaker 6: That's the way you get back in the game when
- 34:22Speaker 6: you're down by three scores is just you know, we're
- 34:25Speaker 6: big special team swings and field position.
- 34:28Speaker 2: But you know, the other thing that they just have
- 34:32Speaker 2: to change is this this second half offensive production.
- 34:36Speaker 1: Overall, they haven't been able to score in the second half.
- 34:39Speaker 1: Yeah really all year now. I haven't had good numbers
- 34:41Speaker 1: on that.
- 34:42Speaker 3: And his breakdown too because I because I've been meaning to,
- 34:44Speaker 3: like got to find some tangible like something to look at,
- 34:47Speaker 3: because the eyeball test tells you, you know, even when
- 34:50Speaker 3: I look back on my little book and you see
- 34:51Speaker 3: just the point totals.
- 34:52Speaker 1: But again we always talk about well, but they were
- 34:55Speaker 1: up big, they could take the foot off the gas,
- 34:56Speaker 1: and like now I'm getting concerned, See I do, and
- 34:59Speaker 1: I I do think it's it's important to look at
- 35:03Speaker 1: each game and not just the generalities. The generalities that
- 35:06Speaker 1: they haven't been as good offensively in the second half,
- 35:08Speaker 1: that's a fact. I can't argue against it. I would
- 35:10Speaker 1: say they're not all the same. Like this game, they
- 35:14Speaker 1: were just bad offensively in the second half. There was
- 35:16Speaker 1: no taking the foot off the gas now, none of that.
- 35:19Speaker 1: They just didn't play as well in the second half
- 35:20Speaker 1: as they did in the first half the Giants game.
- 35:22Speaker 1: I thought they played a really good second half on
- 35:25Speaker 1: both sides of the ball. With that huge lead, they
- 35:29Speaker 1: just did what they needed to do to keep the
- 35:30Speaker 1: clock running and get out of there. So it's not
- 35:32Speaker 1: always the same. Even though they didn't they think they
- 35:35Speaker 1: only scored three points against the Giants. They scored seven
- 35:38Speaker 1: in this one. So like you want to just look
- 35:39Speaker 1: at points, you know this would say well they were
- 35:43Speaker 1: better in this game than that game, but they weren't.
- 35:45Speaker 2: Maybe they were able to have a different mindset. If
- 35:48Speaker 2: you have that lead, just keep going, you know.
- 35:50Speaker 1: But I think they did a good job of that
- 35:52Speaker 1: in the Giants game. If we have a big lead,
- 35:54Speaker 1: we're going to possess the ball and we don't care
- 35:57Speaker 1: how many points we score, but we're going to chew
- 35:59Speaker 1: up the clock and we're going to end the game.
- 36:01Speaker 2: He needs to think about scoring points.
- 36:02Speaker 1: In this game. They needed to do something to possess
- 36:05Speaker 1: the ball, and they didn't, like eighteen plays in a
- 36:08Speaker 1: whole half. Is what was the time of possession in
- 36:10Speaker 1: the second half? It was like sixth plus right, Yeah.
- 36:12Speaker 6: Well that sixty five yard touchdown, so you had it
- 36:17Speaker 6: for ten minutes?
- 36:18Speaker 1: Yeah, Bill, the time in the game was thirty thirty five,
- 36:21Speaker 1: twenty one to twenty four to thirty nine.
- 36:23Speaker 2: Oh in the second half, yeah, I don't have nobody
- 36:25Speaker 2: in the second half. I heard it was like six plus
- 36:27Speaker 2: minutes that the Patriots had the ball.
- 36:29Speaker 6: I think, you know, just the So in the first
- 36:32Speaker 6: half they're the best offense in football by pretty much
- 36:34Speaker 6: every metrics, scoring EPA, whatever. Second half they're twenty second
- 36:39Speaker 6: in offensive scoring just points, like not doing anything fancy
- 36:42Speaker 6: on you just points first to twenty second in the
- 36:45Speaker 6: second half, and I've downplayed it because I think it's
- 36:48Speaker 6: you know, it's the Giants, it's the Titans, it's the Saints.
- 36:51Speaker 6: It's like, you don't need to go and score forty
- 36:53Speaker 6: points against these teams to win those games. But this
- 36:56Speaker 6: was the first time that they needed it and they
- 36:58Speaker 6: didn't have it. You know, they they needed to keep scoring,
- 37:01Speaker 6: they didn't have it. You know, McDaniels historically has not
- 37:04Speaker 6: been a big script guy. I've heard that kicked around
- 37:07Speaker 6: the Bills locker room that oh, they had a great
- 37:09Speaker 6: first fifteen plays and then you know, they kind of
- 37:13Speaker 6: ran out of place. Historically speaking, he's not McDaniels is
- 37:17Speaker 6: not someone that calls a game that way.
- 37:19Speaker 4: So I don't know if that has changed just they
- 37:22Speaker 4: might have.
- 37:23Speaker 6: I don't know, but I think you know, you look
- 37:26Speaker 6: at the first in the second half of this game
- 37:28Speaker 6: in particular, where they needed to keep scoring, and you know,
- 37:31Speaker 6: the splits are just are not good. And really, if
- 37:34Speaker 6: you go back now, I don't know six weeks really
- 37:37Speaker 6: to that Atlanta game, they haven't really had a lot
- 37:41Speaker 6: of sustained offense in the second half at all, because
- 37:44Speaker 6: they had really they they've had four touchdown drives in
- 37:47Speaker 6: the second half over the last like five or six weeks,
- 37:49Speaker 6: and a couple of them are Henderson.
- 37:52Speaker 1: House called Tampa in this one, right.
- 37:54Speaker 6: So like they've really only had like one or two
- 37:57Speaker 6: real touchdown drives in second halfs in like a month.
- 38:02Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean eighty.
- 38:03Speaker 3: Like that's I was just to say the kind of
- 38:04Speaker 3: thing you can sweep under the rug when you're playing
- 38:06Speaker 3: bad teams and you're winning, and now when you're stared
- 38:10Speaker 3: in the face with a division rival and a reminder
- 38:12Speaker 3: that this is how playoff games go and you have
- 38:14Speaker 3: to score at the end.
- 38:15Speaker 1: Now, that's why I look at this as as a positive.
- 38:17Speaker 3: As a learning experience for this team and a reminder
- 38:19Speaker 3: of what these games are like, because I do think
- 38:22Speaker 3: it's hard to make like hard judgments on your team
- 38:25Speaker 3: when you are winning and you're in a win streak.
- 38:27Speaker 3: But when you lose a game like this, especially in
- 38:29Speaker 3: a fashion you lost it, it's a lot easier to
- 38:31Speaker 3: turn the screws on the team and really focus in
- 38:33Speaker 3: on Look, these are the real problems right now. And
- 38:35Speaker 3: we've been talking about red zone defense for like three months,
- 38:39Speaker 3: but now we're really seeing it come home to roost,
- 38:41Speaker 3: and these are the problems that have to get fixed
- 38:43Speaker 3: or it's what's going to bounce them out of The fourth.
- 38:44Speaker 1: Quarter is eighty eight to sixty eight. It's the only
- 38:46Speaker 1: quarter they're getting out of score. As a matter of fact,
- 38:48Speaker 1: it's the only the other quarters aren't close. Yeah, the
- 38:51Speaker 1: Patriots is ninety four to sixty seven, one seventy one,
- 38:55Speaker 1: and eighty to fifty the first three quarters. But in
- 38:59Speaker 1: the fourth quarter they get outscored by twenty That's not
- 39:03Speaker 1: a blip. That's fourteen games. You're getting outscored by twenty
- 39:06Speaker 1: points in the fourth quarter. Again, some of those right,
- 39:10Speaker 1: you can garbage point hues. They haven't allowed a lot
- 39:13Speaker 1: of garbage points. No, I'll say that they have not
- 39:16Speaker 1: allowed a lot of garbage points, but they have not
- 39:21Speaker 1: been able to score, you know, as consistently. It has
- 39:24Speaker 1: to change the second half.
- 39:26Speaker 6: I think that you know, I tried to take like
- 39:28Speaker 6: a let's look at things that are actual trends and
- 39:32Speaker 6: not just one off things that happen in this game,
- 39:34Speaker 6: because there were you know, I don't think they're going
- 39:36Speaker 6: to give up three huge kickoff returns in every single game, right, Like,
- 39:40Speaker 6: I think that that was just sort of the way
- 39:41Speaker 6: this game went. But the second half scoring is a thing, now,
- 39:45Speaker 6: like that's a trend. The run defense I talk about that.
- 39:50Speaker 2: Is just that's true.
- 39:51Speaker 6: Since Milton Williams has gone out, that run defense has cratered.
- 39:55Speaker 6: I mean they're bottom five in the league and across
- 39:57Speaker 6: the board since Milton Williams. It's a very very clear
- 40:01Speaker 6: split pre you know, pre Williams injury, post Williams injury. Uh,
- 40:05Speaker 6: with the run defense with or without Robert Spulane you know,
- 40:09Speaker 6: in that mix as well. Uh, and the red zone
- 40:13Speaker 6: defense is also last in the NFL. Yeah, So you know,
- 40:18Speaker 6: these are the things that are not just a one
- 40:21Speaker 6: half of football thing that happened just against Buffalo. You know,
- 40:25Speaker 6: those are the types of things that are keep happening.
- 40:27Speaker 6: And this run defense is going to face Lamar Jackson
- 40:30Speaker 6: and Derek Henry on Sunday night without Milton Williams. Like
- 40:34Speaker 6: we'll see about Splaine, Like hopefully he plays in that game.
- 40:37Speaker 6: But you don't have any time to figure it out,
- 40:39Speaker 6: Like you just gotta, you know, go out there and
- 40:41Speaker 6: do something different.
- 40:42Speaker 2: I guess, is this a game where you tell if
- 40:45Speaker 2: you're gonna beat us? Ravens you're gonna do it with
- 40:47Speaker 2: Lamar Jackson's arm.
- 40:49Speaker 3: I mean, I think it's easy to say that, But
- 40:51Speaker 3: at the same time, it's you know, it only takes
- 40:53Speaker 3: one uh, you know, in other words, we're going to
- 40:55Speaker 3: sell out to stop the stop Even still, you would think,
- 41:00Speaker 3: you know, I I would almost wonder about sitting Spleene
- 41:02Speaker 3: out of this one. Just I mean, I know, if
- 41:04Speaker 3: you guys saw, there's like the odds if they win
- 41:06Speaker 3: or they lose, Like, it's not really an impactful game
- 41:08Speaker 3: for the Patriots overall.
- 41:10Speaker 1: Standing.
- 41:10Speaker 2: Uh, it's impactful for my site.
- 41:14Speaker 3: No, that's and that's totally reasonable, and good teams try
- 41:17Speaker 3: to win all the time and all that.
- 41:18Speaker 1: But at the same time, if he's not healthy, if
- 41:21Speaker 1: he's not healthy.
- 41:22Speaker 3: And you know, he can't play this Sunday and now
- 41:24Speaker 3: we're going to trot him out there to try to
- 41:26Speaker 3: go tackle Derrick Henry. Now I'd like to have him
- 41:29Speaker 3: for the Jets and the Dolphins game and as healthy
- 41:31Speaker 3: as we can get him into the playoffs.
- 41:33Speaker 2: Yeah, obviously they don't want to limp into the playoffs.
- 41:35Speaker 6: The Jets and Dolphins games have more leverage, but this
- 41:39Speaker 6: Ravens game because it is an AFC, and a common
- 41:41Speaker 6: opponent game is not like totally bit with the tiebreakers
- 41:45Speaker 6: is not totally nothing because.
- 41:46Speaker 1: Two, three, four, well, the Bills.
- 41:49Speaker 6: Already beat the Ravens earlier on in the season, So
- 41:52Speaker 6: it's a common opponent game, which is the third tiebreaker,
- 41:54Speaker 6: and it's also a conference game, which is the fourth tiebreaker.
- 41:57Speaker 6: So if they end up finishing with the same record
- 41:59Speaker 6: in this division record, now we start triggering all these
- 42:02Speaker 6: other you know, uh tie breakers. But I just the
- 42:07Speaker 6: one thing about the run defense that really I was
- 42:09Speaker 6: telling Duce this earlier, like watching it, like you can't
- 42:13Speaker 6: just right up the gut, like you know, it's come on,
- 42:17Speaker 6: Like that's to me, that is like not schematic, it's
- 42:20Speaker 6: not that's that's a little bit of pride. Like they
- 42:23Speaker 6: ran it right up the a game down your throat
- 42:26Speaker 6: with James Cook and like at some point, like you
- 42:29Speaker 6: put Barmore and Tonga inside there and you say enough
- 42:31Speaker 6: is enough, Like you can't just let them keep doing that.
- 42:33Speaker 2: And you know, like when they run up there, like
- 42:36Speaker 2: I think they had two runs for eleven, another one
- 42:38Speaker 2: for sixty if something like that.
- 42:39Speaker 1: They didn't break any point, they didn't break.
- 42:41Speaker 2: Any but they're getting first downs on one run.
- 42:44Speaker 1: That's it was all positive runs, you know, you know
- 42:48Speaker 1: they they were doing. And you know, like you know,
- 42:50Speaker 1: Evan when you brought up like forgetting about the things
- 42:52Speaker 1: that were one offs, and I agree, the kick coverage
- 42:54Speaker 1: is the one off. And I think that you can
- 42:56Speaker 1: sort of delude yourself into thinking, oh, well, we're not
- 43:00Speaker 1: going to allow those kickoff returns. Do you honestly think
- 43:03Speaker 1: that they wouldn't have had five straight touchdown drives if
- 43:05Speaker 1: they had to go seventy yards instead of forty yards
- 43:08Speaker 1: or fifty yards or whatever it was the way that
- 43:10Speaker 1: game was unfolding. Yeah, yeah, Like the total yards that
- 43:14Speaker 1: Buffalo ended up with were because there was no more
- 43:17Speaker 1: yards to get right, you know, like they just every
- 43:20Speaker 1: drive ended with a touchdown, you know, for five straight drive.
- 43:24Speaker 2: The more plays you you know, force them to you know, execute, of.
- 43:28Speaker 1: Course you don't. You don't want to give them the
- 43:30Speaker 1: ball at midfield. I'm not suggesting that that was irrelevant.
- 43:33Speaker 1: It wasn't irrelevant. It was it was a problem in
- 43:36Speaker 1: this game. I'm just saying you can make yourself think,
- 43:39Speaker 1: like we'll just we'll clean up the kick coverage and
- 43:42Speaker 1: then we win this game. I don't think you do. No, No,
- 43:44Speaker 1: it's you need to clean up the kick coverage. Yeah, absolutely,
- 43:48Speaker 1: I was more talking about what No.
- 43:50Speaker 6: I know the kickoff coverage is one but that was
- 43:53Speaker 6: one off. I also expect Drake to play a lot
- 43:55Speaker 6: better than he did in the second half.
- 43:56Speaker 2: I got a hole.
- 43:57Speaker 6: That was a one off, and just from all the
- 44:00Speaker 6: things that we have at our disposal, like he's never
- 44:03Speaker 6: struggled that much with cover two.
- 44:05Speaker 1: So like I like to me, like that was that
- 44:07Speaker 1: had to have even.
- 44:08Speaker 6: His rookie season, he didn't look like that against that
- 44:11Speaker 6: type of defense. So you have to hope that that
- 44:13Speaker 6: was just a one off. But the run defense thing
- 44:15Speaker 6: is a real thing. That's been happening really since the
- 44:17Speaker 6: Tampa Bay game, which Milon Williams played in. But even
- 44:21Speaker 6: you know, post Milton Williams is kind of just better
- 44:23Speaker 6: for the.
- 44:24Speaker 2: So I had a prediction last night we had our
- 44:27Speaker 2: company holiday party. Yeah, Evan, you weren't there.
- 44:31Speaker 1: Here's the lab.
- 44:33Speaker 2: So I made a prediction that I'm going to make
- 44:36Speaker 2: publicly here all week. I think Rabel is going to
- 44:40Speaker 2: be up Drake May's ass. It's going to be a
- 44:43Speaker 2: tough week for Drake May. But Drake may will have
- 44:46Speaker 2: a three hundred plus yard game against the Ravens and
- 44:48Speaker 2: he'll get a game ball in the locker room after
- 44:50Speaker 2: the game. Okay, so there you go. I like that's
- 44:53Speaker 2: my prediction. I like, well, I mean, I gotta be honest.
- 44:56Speaker 2: When Rabel said the thing about Drake, I didn't really flinch.
- 44:59Speaker 2: I mean thought it was definitely interesting and notable, but
- 45:02Speaker 2: it was it was a left turn.
- 45:03Speaker 1: Yeah, he didn't have to question was a point Christian Barmore, Right.
- 45:07Speaker 3: Well, and I think he was doing the thing where
- 45:08Speaker 3: you try to talk about all your play all your players,
- 45:11Speaker 3: but but.
- 45:12Speaker 1: Right he talked about the quarterback on the question about right,
- 45:16Speaker 1: but who you go to start playing? Christian Gonzales sure
- 45:19Speaker 1: didn't allow catching, I know, but he didn't like can
- 45:22Speaker 1: we talk about that too? Oh yeah, yeah no, well
- 45:25Speaker 1: well let's wait. First hold that.
- 45:27Speaker 4: I don't know, it didn't my hour to grieve, and
- 45:29Speaker 4: then I like it.
- 45:32Speaker 1: I think Drake needs to have that. Drake needs to
- 45:35Speaker 1: going to say, don't misunderstand me saying that. I think
- 45:38Speaker 1: that there was a directive. It was like a directed
- 45:41Speaker 1: comment that Rabel had with me saying like this is bad.
- 45:43Speaker 1: This is like, no, but I thought it was interesting.
- 45:47Speaker 1: Fred's theory of him being up Drake's backside is that's
- 45:52Speaker 1: probably accurate based on that comment. Yeah, Like I think
- 45:56Speaker 1: he feels like he needs I think he knows that
- 45:58Speaker 1: this kid's incredibly talent wanted, and we need to do
- 46:02Speaker 1: whatever we can to get the most out of him.
- 46:04Speaker 1: We need him to be the best leader he can be.
- 46:06Speaker 1: We need to you know, we need him, We need
- 46:07Speaker 1: him to be everything we need that guy to be.
- 46:09Speaker 1: And all he knows, all Rabel knows is Tom Brady
- 46:12Speaker 1: and how he did it, you know. And I'm not
- 46:14Speaker 1: talking about how he did it physically, how he did
- 46:17Speaker 1: all the other stuff. And I think that's what he's looking.
- 46:19Speaker 2: At, you know. And you could say, well, let's putting
- 46:20Speaker 2: too much pressure on the young kid, And if I'm Verbel,
- 46:23Speaker 2: I'm like, too bad.
- 46:23Speaker 1: Well you want to do that.
- 46:26Speaker 2: Yeah, we're not going to win.
- 46:27Speaker 1: Unless two minutes left in the game. You're down for
- 46:29Speaker 1: that's pressure, Like, you can't.
- 46:31Speaker 2: Too bad you're going to do Like, if you can't
- 46:33Speaker 2: take my pressure, you're certainly not going to be able
- 46:35Speaker 2: to take the pressure of the playoffs. So let's go.
- 46:38Speaker 3: Let's go and I think Vrabel is the right kind
- 46:41Speaker 3: of coach to take that stuff with Drake, and especially
- 46:44Speaker 3: Drake having three older brothers, I think he's used to
- 46:46Speaker 3: that kind of getting called out. I mean, look at
- 46:49Speaker 3: the video we put out right when he was trapped
- 46:51Speaker 3: and his brothers are all calling him names and stuff.
- 46:53Speaker 5: You know.
- 46:53Speaker 3: But I think Mike Rabel is the right guy for
- 46:55Speaker 3: this job. We've heard about them talking about Drake pronouncing
- 46:59Speaker 3: better and talking better in the huddle, and you know,
- 47:01Speaker 3: like these little things that he's going to need to device.
- 47:04Speaker 2: He's no you know, wilting Violet or whatever the saying is,
- 47:09Speaker 2: shrinking Violet. He'll be able to take it. He's not
- 47:11Speaker 2: Tony Easton. He'll be able to take the criticism. And
- 47:14Speaker 2: I would imagine he accepts it. He wants it. He
- 47:18Speaker 2: wants to be coached hard.
- 47:19Speaker 1: He said that, yeah, you know.
- 47:21Speaker 3: And speaking of Tony's and check out the nineteen eighty
- 47:23Speaker 3: five podcast available now on all your podcasts outlets.
- 47:27Speaker 2: Whatever. Oh, come on, you can do better than I had.
- 47:30Speaker 1: I didn't. I didn't land the plane is probably.
- 47:32Speaker 2: Better than that.
- 47:34Speaker 1: All right, I hate it? Scripted?
- 47:36Speaker 2: Have more did you talk about?
- 47:38Speaker 3: Let's talk about go catch but we were in the
- 47:42Speaker 3: press box during the game going like, oh god, I
- 47:44Speaker 3: got torched on that one.
- 47:45Speaker 1: Oh Gonzo, he's a look at step behind on that one.
- 47:47Speaker 1: He dropped it, thank god. Coleman also took his manhood
- 47:50Speaker 1: on that.
- 47:50Speaker 4: Josh, I don't have anything, are you?
- 47:55Speaker 1: Are you worried about rankling the masses?
- 47:59Speaker 6: No, I'm I probably should just I don't have anything
- 48:02Speaker 6: nice to say, so I'm just not going to say
- 48:03Speaker 6: it at all.
- 48:04Speaker 2: Okay, So I guess we'd bob line. He it was
- 48:08Speaker 2: a sneaky, subpar game.
- 48:11Speaker 4: I don't even know it was sneaky.
- 48:13Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, look, you know he got tours three
- 48:16Speaker 6: times in the game, and man coverage busted a zone
- 48:19Speaker 6: coverage got mauled by Keon Coleman on a design quarterback
- 48:24Speaker 6: run where he didn't look too interested in trying to
- 48:26Speaker 6: make a tackle. You know, it's December football, like the
- 48:31Speaker 6: playoffs are coming up. You know, it's you're the number
- 48:34Speaker 6: one corner, Like let's go, like what are we doing?
- 48:38Speaker 1: You know?
- 48:38Speaker 4: I mean, like Josh Palmer, here's.
- 48:40Speaker 6: A thirty two year old Brandon Cooks, Like, come on, man,
- 48:44Speaker 6: you're better than that. Like that's the part that's frustrating
- 48:46Speaker 6: about it is we know he's better than that.
- 48:48Speaker 1: Yeah, you know you do. In the game, we see
- 48:50Speaker 1: Chucky Trees running stride for stride down the.
- 48:52Speaker 4: Side, right right right, and yeah, like I mean you
- 48:56Speaker 4: could art like.
- 48:59Speaker 1: Speak Paul.
- 49:00Speaker 6: They ran the crossers on that first plate of cooks
- 49:02Speaker 6: that he dropped, and like he got picked a little bit, sure,
- 49:05Speaker 6: but like you're Christian Zalvez is, there's all pro corner
- 49:09Speaker 6: Brandon cooks, So go ahead.
- 49:12Speaker 1: Sorry, alright.
- 49:13Speaker 2: So I got an email from a woman and I
- 49:15Speaker 2: apologize because I must have deleted it. But when I
- 49:17Speaker 2: read it, I'm like, hmm.
- 49:19Speaker 1: That you know.
- 49:21Speaker 2: So it was cold, yeah, you know, and Josh Allen
- 49:27Speaker 2: comes out with long sleeves and looked like maybe even
- 49:31Speaker 2: something underneath that, and you know, ready for the cold
- 49:33Speaker 2: and our guy comes out with the short sleeves. You know,
- 49:36Speaker 2: I'm gonna be tough. But is there a less is
- 49:39Speaker 2: there a lesson to be learned?
- 49:40Speaker 1: There?
- 49:40Speaker 2: It's like no warm up, warm up, like get warm,
- 49:44Speaker 2: do whatever you have to do without infringing on your
- 49:48Speaker 2: your passing motion or whatever. But don't you know you
- 49:51Speaker 2: don't have to be a hero that way. It was
- 49:52Speaker 2: an interesting you have to do to be warm.
- 49:55Speaker 3: I I was also noticed that on the walk in
- 49:58Speaker 3: videos a lot of guys were walking in and T shirts.
- 50:00Speaker 3: Mac Hollins of course had pants do it out there,
- 50:03Speaker 3: but it just made me wonder if this was, you know, something,
- 50:06Speaker 3: if that they a message this week of the cold,
- 50:12Speaker 3: but this is Buffalo. But it felt a little bit though,
- 50:14Speaker 3: it felt a little not performative.
- 50:16Speaker 1: Is probably the area, but you know, trying to send a.
- 50:19Speaker 3: Message that the cold doesn't bother us, you know, and
- 50:22Speaker 3: and I don't know, I might be reading way too
- 50:24Speaker 3: much into it, but that was kind of the I'm
- 50:26Speaker 3: not criticizing guy's.
- 50:27Speaker 1: Got a T shirt on coming in. You know, like
- 50:29Speaker 1: each individual guy sort of knows what he's most comfortable with.
- 50:32Speaker 1: So if Drake is just not comfortable with sleeves, like
- 50:35Speaker 1: forget about the weather, like, then I'm perfectly fine the
- 50:39Speaker 1: whole Like I'm macho, I don't have any time for that.
- 50:43Speaker 1: It's offensive line. Nobody, nobody wore more clothes than Tom
- 50:47Speaker 1: Brady when it was cold. Nobody scuba stack and he's
- 50:50Speaker 1: the best bad weather quarterback I've ever seen. So whatever
- 50:54Speaker 1: you need to do individually to make sure you can
- 50:56Speaker 1: perform is what I want you to do. And if
- 50:58Speaker 1: that means you don't wear sleeves, fine with it. But
- 51:01Speaker 1: I don't want you not to wear sleeves because you're
- 51:03Speaker 1: trying to send a message to the other team baseball.
- 51:06Speaker 4: That's exactly how I feel.
- 51:07Speaker 6: Is just you gotta He might need to just kind
- 51:11Speaker 6: of go through some different iterations of his cold weather
- 51:13Speaker 6: here figuring it out, Uh, Will Campbell. I remember that
- 51:17Speaker 6: he doesn't wear a shirt underneath his pads and hasn't,
- 51:21Speaker 6: like since college.
- 51:21Speaker 1: And that's fine if that's what he's comfortable playing.
- 51:23Speaker 6: The Saint Baton Rube like you know, like this is
- 51:27Speaker 6: and he's not playing right now, so I get that.
- 51:30Speaker 6: But you know, at the same time, you know, did
- 51:33Speaker 6: Brady I don't remember, like did he He didn't.
- 51:35Speaker 1: Wear the scuba suit like right away, like that was probably.
- 51:38Speaker 3: Learn you know, what did he wear in the Oakland
- 51:41Speaker 3: game in the playoffs?
- 51:43Speaker 1: You know, the snowball game?
- 51:44Speaker 5: And I think he.
- 51:45Speaker 1: Had would have to quite scuba suit? Yet No, I
- 51:49Speaker 1: don't think he had progressed with I never liked the head,
- 51:52Speaker 1: the head part of it, and.
- 51:53Speaker 4: I don't know if the scuba suits.
- 51:55Speaker 6: The answer for Drake I'm just saying, like this is
- 51:57Speaker 6: unfortunately part of being a young player in the league
- 52:01Speaker 6: is he's also going to have to have some trials
- 52:03Speaker 6: and tribulations of what gear he's going to play in
- 52:06Speaker 6: cold weather. You know, gloves, no gloves, sleeves, no sleeves
- 52:10Speaker 6: like you know, long John's underneath the pants or no,
- 52:13Speaker 6: you know, like you're gonna have to figure it out.
- 52:15Speaker 6: And Brady eventually went to the scuba suit and it worked,
- 52:18Speaker 6: but that might not be he might feel constrained in
- 52:21Speaker 6: the Scooba suit, like I don't know.
- 52:22Speaker 3: I remember in twenty one when Matt came out, I
- 52:25Speaker 3: think it was up in Buffalo, and it was just like, oh,
- 52:27Speaker 3: he looks cold like and he had the scuba suit
- 52:29Speaker 3: on too. That's at least what I'll say about Drake,
- 52:31Speaker 3: like he never really gives a vibe of like feeling
- 52:34Speaker 3: cold like he at least that's on part. But I agree,
- 52:37Speaker 3: I mean, just more experienced stuff he's got to learn,
- 52:39Speaker 3: especially playing in this weather.
- 52:40Speaker 1: And that's kind of the thing that I'm talking about,
- 52:42Speaker 1: Like I if you you can tell when you look, yeah,
- 52:47Speaker 1: that guy looks cold, right, Oh, that guy's comfortable. Like,
- 52:50Speaker 1: so I'm telling you that Drake may look I didn't
- 52:52Speaker 1: think he looked cold the other day.
- 52:54Speaker 2: No, I didn't either. Yeah, I didn't either. But it
- 52:56Speaker 2: was an interesting email that I thought, Oh, you know.
- 52:58Speaker 1: Yeah, just look at how light of the snowball game
- 53:01Speaker 1: and Tom definitely had sleeves. Yeah.
- 53:02Speaker 3: I mean, we'll see in a couple of weeks against
- 53:04Speaker 3: Miami and it'll be you know, January at that point.
- 53:07Speaker 1: So can I say a couple of things.
- 53:09Speaker 4: I feel like there's too many.
- 53:11Speaker 6: A couple of nice things, real quick design quarterback runs
- 53:15Speaker 6: in the red zone. Yeah, there you go.
- 53:16Speaker 2: You're welcome.
- 53:18Speaker 1: Yeah, there we go.
- 53:19Speaker 4: That's what we're talking.
- 53:20Speaker 1: Just like he's like, and after the bye that's when
- 53:22Speaker 1: we'll start running. I was listening to Patriots and you
- 53:27Speaker 1: know what they mentioned struggle you.
- 53:34Speaker 6: Can go like, but yeah, the design quarterback runs two
- 53:40Speaker 6: different design plays for him. Both of them worked. Even
- 53:45Speaker 6: just putting that on film. Yeah, it's good for other
- 53:49Speaker 6: teams to worry about.
- 53:50Speaker 4: That was great.
- 53:51Speaker 6: The whole run game in the first half was awesome,
- 53:53Speaker 6: Like they ran the terrific album unbelievably. Well, that was
- 53:58Speaker 6: the next place I was going to gore on Henderson's
- 54:00Speaker 6: A Star.
- 54:01Speaker 1: I mean, that guy's awesome.
- 54:03Speaker 6: So that run hit up and I know, like some
- 54:05Speaker 6: you know, yeah, like could he hit some more singles
- 54:08Speaker 6: with the Homers Every once in a while. I actually
- 54:10Speaker 6: thought in this game he actually did hit a couple
- 54:12Speaker 6: of singles. Also, you know, I had a couple of
- 54:14Speaker 6: four or five, you know, eight yard runs.
- 54:17Speaker 2: He's finding himself here, Yeah, starting to get it.
- 54:19Speaker 6: That that speed is different, you know, Like it's one
- 54:23Speaker 6: thing to see the backside, you know, open up and develop,
- 54:26Speaker 6: but then to be able to outrun the entire defense
- 54:29Speaker 6: right to the edge to get the best case scenario.
- 54:32Speaker 1: And this is no disrespect to Remindra who you guys know,
- 54:34Speaker 1: I really like his physicality. But if the same exact
- 54:37Speaker 1: play unfolds with Reminder, the best case scenario is a
- 54:39Speaker 1: fifteen yard Yeah, like he slips out the backside, gets
- 54:42Speaker 1: up the sideline, and the safety comes over and has
- 54:44Speaker 1: an angle on it and probably knocks him out of bound.
- 54:46Speaker 1: Whereas Henderson comes out the backside and they cannot he
- 54:50Speaker 1: outruns the angle. I know, it's like the rabbit drill
- 54:52Speaker 1: at training and listen, I know a lot of keeps
- 54:54Speaker 1: it when the rabbits.
- 54:55Speaker 2: A lot of people like oh you know, it wasn't
- 54:58Speaker 2: a very good block. I give a lot of credit.
- 55:00Speaker 2: And I was impressed with Drake may run and stride
- 55:03Speaker 2: for stride with him down there and getting in the way.
- 55:06Speaker 1: Yeah you know, like I love that was like I
- 55:08Speaker 1: didn't have to follow down.
- 55:10Speaker 2: Effort, that's all it was. But okay, I love the effort.
- 55:13Speaker 1: Paul and I were joking that, like it's gone.
- 55:15Speaker 2: For I don't care about effort.
- 55:16Speaker 1: No, no, no, I care about effort. I just I'm not
- 55:18Speaker 1: going to get lost in that play. Like that play
- 55:19Speaker 1: was Tarvi on Henderson. He's a special test was special.
- 55:25Speaker 1: I just love you did not talking about sort of
- 55:27Speaker 1: the reaction outside.
- 55:28Speaker 2: I just love mouth.
- 55:29Speaker 1: I agree with everything you said. Yeah that was effort.
- 55:32Speaker 3: Now, Paul and I were joking that, like the offense
- 55:33Speaker 3: is kind of completely flip flop. Now it's like it
- 55:36Speaker 3: used to be the last couple of years all short,
- 55:38Speaker 3: like you we got to execute twelve play drives.
- 55:40Speaker 1: Now it's like one two play drives.
- 55:42Speaker 3: Like they're all explosive and when they don't get their explosives,
- 55:44Speaker 3: now they fall.
- 55:44Speaker 1: Apart all of a sudden. It's like you can find
- 55:46Speaker 1: a happy middle. What I wouldn't do for a thirteen
- 55:48Speaker 1: player sixty four yard driving. To be able to.
- 55:52Speaker 6: Reverse the field like that in the NFL is impressive,
- 55:55Speaker 6: Like you're not supposed to be able to do that
- 55:57Speaker 6: at this level. That's like a college thing to be
- 55:59Speaker 6: able to do that.
- 56:00Speaker 1: But that was special.
- 56:01Speaker 6: I didn't realize this because we're not we're not betting
- 56:04Speaker 6: folks in this department. But he's the favorite for Offensive
- 56:08Speaker 6: Rookie of the Year at the moment. Yeah, and you
- 56:11Speaker 6: know it's a little bit of a down year for
- 56:12Speaker 6: offensive players, but in general they right now to have
- 56:16Speaker 6: him as the Him and Nibuka and Ted are like
- 56:19Speaker 6: the three front runners.
- 56:20Speaker 1: And Abuka is kind of tailed off, whereas Henderson.
- 56:23Speaker 4: Is really like eleven hundred yards.
- 56:26Speaker 2: All right, I see you on the phones. I see

- 58:38Speaker 5: What nicll, I knew you'd be here.
- 58:40Speaker 13: No, let me just apologize to Nicole and everybody else.
- 58:44Speaker 13: I'm sure I was boring as hell yesterday, and when
- 58:47Speaker 13: you guys heard that the open locker room, the locker
- 58:49Speaker 13: room was open. I don't blame you for one to
- 58:52Speaker 13: take off. And I know you guys got a tough
- 58:54Speaker 13: job to do and it's hard to get those guys.
- 58:56Speaker 5: So I apologize for but I knew you'd be here today,
- 59:00Speaker 5: So go ahead, Karen, I'm great. How are you thank
- 59:06Speaker 5: you for asking.
- 59:10Speaker 9: The defense allowed touchdowns on five straight, what do you
- 59:17Speaker 9: have to do to get that us back on track.
- 59:20Speaker 13: Well, it's not just that unit. I think the one
- 59:24Speaker 13: thing that we've done in victory has been to play
- 59:29Speaker 13: very complimentary. And I would say that to give the
- 59:32Speaker 13: third ranked offense the field position that they did.
- 59:37Speaker 5: Is tough. It is tough.
- 59:39Speaker 13: And again we have to play better defensively to play
- 59:43Speaker 13: much better, play much better in all three phases to
- 59:46Speaker 13: beat good football teams or beat anybody.
- 59:50Speaker 5: So again, we talked about getting the drive stop.
- 59:53Speaker 13: We talked about finding ways to create some turnovers and
- 59:57Speaker 13: continue to hunt for turnovers and hammer and tip and
- 1:00:02Speaker 13: you know, try to have to knock it away from
- 1:00:04Speaker 13: somebody and you know, and then just figure out what
- 1:00:07Speaker 13: we can do, you know when they when they get
- 1:00:09Speaker 13: down there to to get the drive stop. There's too
- 1:00:11Speaker 13: many touchdowns on third down to where we had some
- 1:00:15Speaker 13: positive plays and had everybody in tune and playing well
- 1:00:19Speaker 13: and getting to stop and then you know, giving up
- 1:00:21Speaker 13: a touchdown on.
- 1:00:22Speaker 5: On third down.
- 1:00:24Speaker 13: So that's a that's a long answer to say that
- 1:00:28Speaker 13: I'd said we were disappointed, but not discouraged.
- 1:00:31Speaker 5: And there's a lot of.
- 1:00:32Speaker 13: Good snaps of defense, but you know, not enough, and
- 1:00:37Speaker 13: good snaps offense and not enough, and some good snaps
- 1:00:41Speaker 13: of special teams, but not enough. And give them a
- 1:00:43Speaker 13: lot of credit. You know, we knew that they weren't
- 1:00:45Speaker 13: going to go away, and uh, you know, we weren't
- 1:00:48Speaker 13: able to ultimately, you do enough there at the end
- 1:00:51Speaker 13: of the game, they.
- 1:00:53Speaker 14: Had a big advantage in terms of time of possession.
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: Show did you feel like the defense was fatigued at all?
- 1:01:00Speaker 5: Again?
- 1:01:01Speaker 13: That was I mean, you just don't want to be
- 1:01:04Speaker 13: out there that long against them and against a big
- 1:01:07Speaker 13: offensive line, and that can kind of lean on you
- 1:01:10Speaker 13: and wear on you. And you know, so again that's
- 1:01:12Speaker 13: the complementary phase that we talked about. You know, that's
- 1:01:17Speaker 13: the best defense against the good offenses, being able to
- 1:01:19Speaker 13: possess the football. And you know, we didn't do that.
- 1:01:22Speaker 13: We didn't do that in the second half. We didn't
- 1:01:24Speaker 13: put drives together, we didn't convert when we needed to.
- 1:01:28Speaker 14: Mike, we really bring up special teams unless it's really
- 1:01:31Speaker 14: good or probably really bad. The returns, even when you
- 1:01:36Speaker 14: were doing well, the returns were there, Buffalo. Was it
- 1:01:39Speaker 14: a structural in looking at the plays? Did Buffalo do something.
- 1:01:43Speaker 13: Oh, there was a new scheme then on the first one,
- 1:01:46Speaker 13: and then after that, I thought we did a nice
- 1:01:50Speaker 13: job against the double team over there on the sideline.
- 1:01:53Speaker 13: After the first one, I thought Anthony adjusted really well
- 1:01:56Speaker 13: to that and made it cut back and we tackled it.
- 1:02:01Speaker 13: And then we you know, then there's like a fit
- 1:02:03Speaker 13: here and a fit there. And if they you know,
- 1:02:06Speaker 13: this is not an indictment on the officiating.
- 1:02:08Speaker 5: I know what this is.
- 1:02:10Speaker 13: And if they're going to grab you, and they grab
- 1:02:12Speaker 13: you like this and you're we stand there head to
- 1:02:16Speaker 13: head and nose and nose with them, that that's not holding.
- 1:02:18Speaker 5: It's not holding in this league. And I don't want
- 1:02:21Speaker 5: it to be.
- 1:02:21Speaker 13: And so you have to do enough to cause restriction
- 1:02:25Speaker 13: at the point of attack so that they see that
- 1:02:27Speaker 13: and it gives them a reason to consider throwing a flag.
- 1:02:32Speaker 13: So we have to understand that and we have to
- 1:02:35Speaker 13: be able to shed and we have to be able
- 1:02:37Speaker 13: to you know, create restriction at the point of attack.
- 1:02:40Speaker 5: And we didn't do.
- 1:02:42Speaker 13: That, and then so that they they they blocked us,
- 1:02:45Speaker 13: and we were content with that.
- 1:02:46Speaker 5: Too many times.
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: Laudra had the penalty.
- 1:02:51Speaker 5: That's a bad decision. What's the message to the team
- 1:02:54Speaker 5: when things that does bad decision.
- 1:02:57Speaker 13: That's what I told them in the moment. That's what
- 1:02:59Speaker 13: I tell him again at twelve thirty. There's nothing else.
- 1:03:04Speaker 13: It's what it is. He made a good play, good
- 1:03:06Speaker 13: positive play, like they did anything wrong. Hit him at
- 1:03:11Speaker 13: the sideline and stood there and you know, we made
- 1:03:14Speaker 13: a bad decision.
- 1:03:15Speaker 15: Looked like there was a wrinkle where they had an
- 1:03:16Speaker 15: offensive lineman when you're blocking on one.
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: Of the kick returns. Was that a wrinkle you were expecting?
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: And that changer approach at all when you have.
- 1:03:22Speaker 13: A big man in the game like that, Well that's
- 1:03:24Speaker 13: you know, made a copycat from earlier in the season.
- 1:03:27Speaker 13: They hadn't shown that, but we have to be prepared
- 1:03:30Speaker 13: for things that show up on tape and you know,
- 1:03:34Speaker 13: being able to adjust. And you know again that that's
- 1:03:37Speaker 13: been a strength of ours on the kickoff coverage, and
- 1:03:40Speaker 13: that was a strength of theirs coming in. We knew
- 1:03:42Speaker 13: that that was going to be a challenge at ninety
- 1:03:43Speaker 13: eight year touchdown against the Texans a few weeks ago,
- 1:03:47Speaker 13: and you know.
- 1:03:49Speaker 5: We weren't good enough. And again in that matchup, I want.
- 1:03:53Speaker 3: Them expected was what happened with Robert in the pre
- 1:03:57Speaker 3: roll up this Blane or was that sort of the
- 1:04:00Speaker 3: plan just known.
- 1:04:00Speaker 13: When well, I mean, I just think it was just
- 1:04:02Speaker 13: to see what we can get and she you know,
- 1:04:07Speaker 13: whether he was going to be able to do it
- 1:04:09Speaker 13: or it was going to be in an emergency role
- 1:04:11Speaker 13: and there's not a lot of step there outside of him,
- 1:04:15Speaker 13: and you know, could have had a few guys up,
- 1:04:18Speaker 13: but didn't think that that was really going to make
- 1:04:20Speaker 13: an impact on the game day roster. It felt like, yeah,
- 1:04:27Speaker 13: whether it's the sixth out side linebacker or the sixth
- 1:04:30Speaker 13: receiver or the forced tight end or whatever it may
- 1:04:34Speaker 13: have been. I just didn't feel like that that was
- 1:04:38Speaker 13: going to make that much.
- 1:04:39Speaker 5: Of a difference or a difference at all with Milton.
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: Obviously, you guys have rotation of players.
- 1:04:45Speaker 13: Did thought you pinched Corey repeated league?
- 1:04:48Speaker 14: But there's more of a burden fall or do you
- 1:04:51Speaker 14: expect more from Christian Parmover in terms of his playing ability?
- 1:04:54Speaker 13: And yeah, we expect that in this league. We've said
- 1:04:58Speaker 13: this that your best players have to play good for
- 1:05:00Speaker 13: you to win, and we consider him one of our
- 1:05:04Speaker 13: better players. And just like other quarterback, we expect, you know,
- 1:05:08Speaker 13: quarterback is gonna have to play good for us to win.
- 1:05:13Speaker 13: Whoever we consider to be our best players, they have
- 1:05:16Speaker 13: to play good in this league.
- 1:05:17Speaker 5: That's what this thing comes down to.
- 1:05:19Speaker 13: So we'll we'll continue to find ways to to make
- 1:05:25Speaker 13: production and get production and get stops and show everybody
- 1:05:29Speaker 13: the good ones and the things that we need to
- 1:05:31Speaker 13: improve on.
- 1:05:33Speaker 16: I was just.
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: Curious with the penalties.
- 1:05:37Speaker 17: We planned it.
- 1:05:38Speaker 5: Actually I hate it. I just was like, like, those
- 1:05:43Speaker 5: are the same hats with these.
- 1:05:46Speaker 10: Spoke about the penalties this morning radio.
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: I'm just curious.
- 1:05:49Speaker 6: It's it did seem like some of the players also
- 1:05:51Speaker 6: didn't agree with some of the calls or what's kind
- 1:05:53Speaker 6: of your message to keep.
- 1:05:54Speaker 5: Their head and being yeah, there's nothing that we can do.
- 1:06:00Speaker 13: They see what they see, they call it the best
- 1:06:03Speaker 13: that they can.
- 1:06:04Speaker 5: I'm confident in that.
- 1:06:05Speaker 13: We have to know what it is that they're looking
- 1:06:08Speaker 13: for to call penalties. They have mechanics that they're looking for,
- 1:06:13Speaker 13: and we have to understand that and we have to
- 1:06:17Speaker 13: play to that that no more, no less. And yeah,
- 1:06:24Speaker 13: the officiating or the penalties weren't the reason.
- 1:06:27Speaker 5: That were lost.
- 1:06:28Speaker 10: Okay, you guys have talked about having a coordinated rush.
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: Can you give us any insight as to what happened
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: with the rush on the touchdown pass to time.
- 1:06:35Speaker 13: Yeah, it wasn't coordinated. It wasn't coordinated, and it was
- 1:06:39Speaker 13: not executed properly. Coverage wasn't executed properly. And unfortunately, when
- 1:06:44Speaker 13: you do that against a good player, you know, they
- 1:06:48Speaker 13: make you pay. Any mistakes that you make get magnified
- 1:06:52Speaker 13: against an excellent quarterback.
- 1:06:55Speaker 6: Two minute drive at the.
- 1:06:56Speaker 12: End of the first half. And he thought to be
- 1:06:58Speaker 12: more aggressive there or was the how just seating up
- 1:07:01Speaker 12: the clock?
- 1:07:04Speaker 13: Well, I mean we were trying to be aggressive, you know,
- 1:07:07Speaker 13: we were. We were trying and I don't think that
- 1:07:10Speaker 13: it and we wanted to get going there and make
- 1:07:14Speaker 13: sure that you get the first first down and then
- 1:07:16Speaker 13: you kind of get rolling. And then the decision, you know,
- 1:07:21Speaker 13: maybe had twenty three seconds they you know, I figured
- 1:07:24Speaker 13: they were going to reverse that. Wanted to keep the
- 1:07:27Speaker 13: time out in case of an emergency. We were already
- 1:07:29Speaker 13: in field goal range. I figured that we could use
- 1:07:32Speaker 13: the timeout in case something happens, you get a ten
- 1:07:35Speaker 13: second runoff, all those things. I think it's important that
- 1:07:38Speaker 13: you keep that time out when you can. Went with
- 1:07:42Speaker 13: that decision. I thought it was six seconds and one
- 1:07:46Speaker 13: time out. I thought that was very well executed for
- 1:07:52Speaker 13: Remondra to break free there. I thought about taking a
- 1:07:58Speaker 13: shot and again, and you just is it six point
- 1:08:02Speaker 13: one on the clock or is it six point nine?
- 1:08:04Speaker 13: I would hate to look up there and have a
- 1:08:07Speaker 13: go ball from the thirty yard line and look up
- 1:08:10Speaker 13: and have it be zero and not one, and then
- 1:08:12Speaker 13: look like an idiot. So if it was six point nine,
- 1:08:16Speaker 13: I would have taken a shot. If it was six
- 1:08:18Speaker 13: point one, I probably would have done what we did,
- 1:08:21Speaker 13: if that makes any sense. And you.
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: And now great moments in.
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: History, Paul, I have something to take up with you though.
- 1:08:33Speaker 2: You You just came out with your all time numberless
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: for the Patriots, and I think it's all in fun.
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: I know that. But you've got the number one, and
- 1:08:45Speaker 2: you've got Cam Newton as the person who wore it best,
- 1:08:48Speaker 2: and like he hasn't already, how can you already want
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: it best?
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: I mean, put Tony anybody else wearing it, but he
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: he's already won it. Best silverman shot of him wearing
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: the number one, add anybody else.
- 1:09:04Speaker 2: There should have been a rule that you have to
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: have appeared in at least one game to be able
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: to be on your list.
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: I didn't have any sense of humor at all, freds No.
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: I mean, it's just come on, come on, come on,
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: what about Tony Frankly, maybe Denis Stubberfield should be in
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: there somewhere.
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: You know, my favorite one was forty three? He was
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: ninety nine?
- 1:09:25Speaker 5: Right?
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: Was he ninety two?
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: I don't know. That's another great moment from all right
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: back here and Patriot's Unfiltered A five five Pats five
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: hundred is the hotline podcast at Patriots dot com is
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: the email address. We've got some people that have been
- 1:09:42Speaker 2: hanging on for the better part of it more than
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: an hour.
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: Yeah, sorry, that was therapeutic. No, no, no, we had
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: you know, there was a lot to chew on.
- 1:09:50Speaker 2: I had to talk. So let's start with Herb and DC.
- 1:09:54Speaker 2: What's up, Herb? And thanks for your patients? As no
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: Socks would say, Okay.
- 1:10:04Speaker 17: I feel a little better now, to be honest with you, right,
- 1:10:08Speaker 17: I think the thing is right has to catch a
- 1:10:11Speaker 17: lot of flags, and I feel like it was just
- 1:10:13Speaker 17: an outline performance.
- 1:10:14Speaker 5: Right.
- 1:10:16Speaker 18: Granted, it's not a deal to give up thirty five.
- 1:10:17Speaker 17: Points in a game, but.
- 1:10:21Speaker 18: Ultimately I think that the job description of a number
- 1:10:24Speaker 18: three pick talking about Drake May is he has to
- 1:10:28Speaker 18: be able to come some of those things right. If
- 1:10:30Speaker 18: your left tackle is out, what's the lating is out,
- 1:10:33Speaker 18: the defense having.
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: A bad day.
- 1:10:35Speaker 18: Ultimately, I think he is part of the job script
- 1:10:39Speaker 18: to be able to be able to do it.
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: I think your head coach agrees with you, right, But.
- 1:10:45Speaker 18: Having said that, I want to reiterate my personal confidence
- 1:10:50Speaker 18: in him, saying that he will do this right.
- 1:10:53Speaker 17: That will come another time, whether it's over the next
- 1:10:57Speaker 17: three four games and in the.
- 1:10:58Speaker 18: Postseason where he has to deliver. And I'll just because
- 1:11:01Speaker 18: to me, he's on a mental midget, right, He's I'm
- 1:11:05Speaker 18: basically up bringing everything like I'm apprecive you fine, Yeah.
- 1:11:10Speaker 2: Well that we're all counting on that, that you're right
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: and that he is the guy. So thanks Herban, thanks
- 1:11:15Speaker 2: for holding on. Let's go up to Canada, Sean's and Vancouver.
- 1:11:18Speaker 2: What's up, Sean.
- 1:11:20Speaker 19: I have to preface what I'm about to say by
- 1:11:23Speaker 19: just pointing out that, yes, I am disappointed that the
- 1:11:26Speaker 19: Patriots blew a twenty one point lead, that they lost
- 1:11:29Speaker 19: the Bills, and that they had these huge issues in
- 1:11:34Speaker 19: the red zone and run defense again, but fred I
- 1:11:38Speaker 19: felt the point I have to point out, like, I'm sorry,
- 1:11:41Speaker 19: but the window for the Bills is not close. I
- 1:11:45Speaker 19: was speaking with someone who has no horse in this race,
- 1:11:49Speaker 19: and they said, what a great game goodness was. It
- 1:11:51Speaker 19: was just a fabulous game to watch on NFL. And
- 1:11:53Speaker 19: I think, you know, maybe for the next ten years
- 1:11:56Speaker 19: this will be the case A You're going to see
- 1:11:58Speaker 19: trick Me and Josh Allen games as NFL must watch TV.
- 1:12:03Speaker 19: These could be the two dominant teams in the AFC.
- 1:12:09Speaker 19: And now in terms of where we're going, I think
- 1:12:12Speaker 19: the Bills are going to be the fifth seed and
- 1:12:16Speaker 19: they're going to have to event you know, they'll probably
- 1:12:19Speaker 19: win the game and then land up going to Denver
- 1:12:21Speaker 19: and the Patriots will probably be the two seed and
- 1:12:23Speaker 19: we'll have to face Houston at home in the playoffs. Hopefully,
- 1:12:27Speaker 19: you know, Patriots will prevail, but I don't know. Also, Paul,
- 1:12:30Speaker 19: I want to point out, you know you were talking
- 1:12:32Speaker 19: before last week about how you get things wrong. I
- 1:12:35Speaker 19: want to point out how you get things right. Remember,
- 1:12:38Speaker 19: prior to twenty twenty two's draft, how you put it
- 1:12:41Speaker 19: pointed out how shook. Here is your your long shot
- 1:12:46Speaker 19: for the draft, like I think he went in the
- 1:12:48Speaker 19: fifth round or something like that, and that was your guy,
- 1:12:51Speaker 19: so you got to get props for that. I'll let
- 1:12:53Speaker 19: you go and comment on that, all right.
- 1:12:55Speaker 2: Thanks Sean.
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: Thanks Sean.
- 1:12:57Speaker 6: As as much as I agree with some of the
- 1:12:59Speaker 6: first call said, it did score thirty one points, and
- 1:13:02Speaker 6: if you're gonna score thirty one points.
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: Should be enough to win.
- 1:13:05Speaker 4: You should be enough to win.
- 1:13:06Speaker 6: As bat he did not play well in the second half,
- 1:13:09Speaker 6: and I understand the point that you have to keep playing,
- 1:13:11Speaker 6: you know, scoring, and sometimes you're gonna have to win
- 1:13:14Speaker 6: a game thirty eight thirty five against Josh Allen, But
- 1:13:17Speaker 6: I would you know, this one's just as much on
- 1:13:19Speaker 6: the defense and the special teams as is Day.
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: Oh yeah, it's a total system breakdown, all three phases.
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: Let him down. Alex in Connecticut, what's up, Alex?
- 1:13:30Speaker 20: Hey, guys, big fan of the show. Thank you, I'm listener.
- 1:13:35Speaker 20: I just wanted to say that I didn't want to lose,
- 1:13:39Speaker 20: but I think that the Patriots needed a loss before
- 1:13:41Speaker 20: the season ended. The regular season, I thought it was
- 1:13:45Speaker 20: going to be against Baltimore, But to be honest, now
- 1:13:48Speaker 20: I think we're going to come in and take care
- 1:13:50Speaker 20: of them. I think the defense steps up and maybe
- 1:13:53Speaker 20: holds him to seventeen twenty one points while the offense
- 1:13:56Speaker 20: focuses on running the ball. I think we need to
- 1:13:59Speaker 20: get that. And because Drake seems like he's been some
- 1:14:02Speaker 20: sort of I don't even know the word for it,
- 1:14:05Speaker 20: but I do think that he throws a deep touchdown
- 1:14:07Speaker 20: because we didn't have much of that last game. I
- 1:14:10Speaker 20: think the loss couldn't have come at a better time
- 1:14:13Speaker 20: with three games to go, and that the team needed
- 1:14:15Speaker 20: to really feel that would that be instead? I'm scared
- 1:14:18Speaker 20: about the number one seed and I'll take it off there.
- 1:14:21Speaker 20: Thanks guys.
- 1:14:22Speaker 2: Okay, I mean longot, we're in the back seed of
- 1:14:25Speaker 2: the number one seed. We need a coapse. Yeah, we
- 1:14:27Speaker 2: need Denver to lose a couple of games here.
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: And now they get and as usual Fred, where are
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: those games going to be taking place in Denver? Two
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: of them?
- 1:14:34Speaker 4: And now they get Kansas City without my homes.
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: Right, so it's the one road game.
- 1:14:38Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, so I want to.
- 1:14:40Speaker 4: See it ain't looking good.
- 1:14:41Speaker 2: I'm more I just want to win the AFC East.
- 1:14:43Speaker 2: That's my big thing.
- 1:14:44Speaker 3: Now, Yeah me too, me too, But I just wonder
- 1:14:47Speaker 3: like what are they going to benefit from what they learned?
- 1:14:49Speaker 3: You know, like what is the upshot of losing this game?
- 1:14:52Speaker 3: Like I and I get what he's saying, Like, you know,
- 1:14:54Speaker 3: and I said earlier, you can it's a lot easier
- 1:14:56Speaker 3: to build off of things, I think when the team
- 1:14:58Speaker 3: loses and you have their attention. But it hasn't really
- 1:15:01Speaker 3: changed how I view the team though, you know, and
- 1:15:03Speaker 3: I don't know if they, oh, because they lost this game,
- 1:15:05Speaker 3: now they're going to win a playoff game, Like I
- 1:15:07Speaker 3: still kind of see it the same way.
- 1:15:09Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, like the Pittsburgh game, they turned the
- 1:15:11Speaker 6: ball over a bunch and they did lose, win or
- 1:15:14Speaker 6: learn from that loss in that sense, but that was
- 1:15:17Speaker 6: a tangible thing of like you turned it over five
- 1:15:20Speaker 6: times and that's why you lost. I will say defensively,
- 1:15:23Speaker 6: I said earlier, like you need to be more more
- 1:15:26Speaker 6: buttoned up than that in these big games. And I
- 1:15:29Speaker 6: wonder if this is kind of a wake up call
- 1:15:32Speaker 6: to have the focus be a little bit more like
- 1:15:35Speaker 6: when you're playing the offenses that they had been playing,
- 1:15:38Speaker 6: you don't necessarily need to be on your p's and
- 1:15:40Speaker 6: q's like you do against Buffalo and Baltimore and the
- 1:15:43Speaker 6: teams you're going to play in the playoffs, So hopefully
- 1:15:46Speaker 6: they look at it and say, like, you know, we can't.
- 1:15:49Speaker 6: We can't have all these breakdowns, mental breakdowns. It's one
- 1:15:52Speaker 6: thing to get beat, it's another thing to kind of
- 1:15:55Speaker 6: hand them things right.
- 1:15:56Speaker 3: And then it shines on your lack of talent too.
- 1:15:58Speaker 3: I mean, I think when a defense plays really well together,
- 1:16:00Speaker 3: you can cover up.
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: Some of those things.
- 1:16:02Speaker 3: But when you don't have you know, your best players
- 1:16:05Speaker 3: playing the best, or they're not in there, and you know,
- 1:16:07Speaker 3: and then you realize, like the linebackers look a lot
- 1:16:10Speaker 3: like the linebackers did last year, where it's tough for
- 1:16:12Speaker 3: them to make plays and to anticipate to get off
- 1:16:15Speaker 3: of blocks, and you know, it's just that the performance
- 1:16:17Speaker 3: remind me a lot of last year's excuse me defense,
- 1:16:19Speaker 3: you know, watching the tail plate, watching them, you know,
- 1:16:22Speaker 3: just behind the play, behind the play, you know it's
- 1:16:24Speaker 3: already James Cook's already going. And another point was I
- 1:16:27Speaker 3: think they missed like ten tackles too. I mean, that's
- 1:16:29Speaker 3: a that's a problem from earlier in the season that
- 1:16:31Speaker 3: it kind of rectified itself, and you know, they that
- 1:16:35Speaker 3: I think that's another symptom of.
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: Overall But that's another example. What Evan's talking about is
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: when you've played against teams that aren't really capable.
- 1:16:43Speaker 4: Of taking advantage of bad football, making.
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: You miss attack. There you go, yep, you know what
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: I mean, Like you're playing again. You know, James Cook,
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: he's a little bit better than you know, uh, Travis
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: Tracy or whatever, what's Tracy's name, Tyrone, you know he's
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: a better player.
- 1:16:57Speaker 9: I don't know.
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: I know it's Tracy. I think. You know, Evan Singletary,
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: you know, James Cook replaced Devin Singletary. That was a
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: huge upgrade, you know for Buffalo. You know that that's
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: the offenses they have been playing. Those guys aren't really
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: capable of making your sort of weaknesses exposed.
- 1:17:14Speaker 3: Whether there was no real bad football to take advantage
- 1:17:16Speaker 3: of with the Bills, you know, that's and that's it's
- 1:17:18Speaker 3: a great baseline when you're trying to play a fourth
- 1:17:20Speaker 3: play schedule and win some games and there's going to
- 1:17:22Speaker 3: be bad football.
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: But but there was, you know, but you know, like
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: it was terrible football from the Buffalo perspective. On that
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: sixty five yard touchdown. You can go back and watch
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: aj Fanessa Like I've never played defensive line in my life,
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: and I can tell you that he broke every rule
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: of defensive line play backside defensive end, like gives ground.
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: It goes like three yards upfield, Like I don't know
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: where you were going, but all you need to do
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: is stay where you are and make sure that that
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: guy can't cut back. He should have cut back right
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: into him. But did you see that the replayer, This
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: is what I'm talking about, He like slams down into
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: the pile, gives Henderson no resistance whatsoever. Like that's bad football.
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: In Trevion Henderson took advantage of it.
- 1:18:07Speaker 6: It was almost like a kickoff like the old way
- 1:18:10Speaker 6: because like you, like you always when you talk about kickoff,
- 1:18:12Speaker 6: you don't want guys in the same lane.
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: That's right in your lane. And that's his job is
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: being the backside guy. Don't let the guy come back. Yeah,
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: cut back.
- 1:18:23Speaker 2: Doug Hampshire wants to know. Do you think no splane
- 1:18:26Speaker 2: wearing the green dot led to the disjointed defensive scheme.
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: It could have been part of help, you know.
- 1:18:32Speaker 3: I mean he's he's the key guy in the middle,
- 1:18:33Speaker 3: and I mean another thing that you know, it was
- 1:18:35Speaker 3: more sunshine and rainbows.
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: But it's just you know, his presence.
- 1:18:38Speaker 3: He's a fiery guy, like you know, it's is there
- 1:18:41Speaker 3: a speech in him of all right, we need one
- 1:18:43Speaker 3: stop here and maybe they respond.
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:18:45Speaker 3: I mean, I I just think in a game like this,
- 1:18:47Speaker 3: missing him did not did not help matters at all.
- 1:18:50Speaker 2: Cody writes in Bill's fans have really been backing McDermott
- 1:18:53Speaker 2: after the Mike vrabel blame me the ref's narrative. While
- 1:18:56Speaker 2: I feel Mike's comments have taken wildly out of context,
- 1:18:59Speaker 2: Bill's fans backing McDermott and saying he would never blame
- 1:19:02Speaker 2: the ref is great. I actually think the Bills should
- 1:19:05Speaker 2: give him a lifetime coaching contract due to those facts.
- 1:19:08Speaker 6: Uh just squally quickly on this plain thing that I have.
- 1:19:11Speaker 6: I do want to say something about that. Uh it
- 1:19:13Speaker 6: was playine Like a lot of Paul shows are kind
- 1:19:16Speaker 6: of like we're not giving them splaine.
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: Like you know that's Fred.
- 1:19:19Speaker 6: You know that he's he's out, he's not a good
- 1:19:20Speaker 6: enough player. But when every run is right up the
- 1:19:24Speaker 6: gut where you say that they didn't miss Spalaine is
- 1:19:27Speaker 6: I think silly, but like, especially with the way that
- 1:19:30Speaker 6: they ran the football on them, like that would literally
- 1:19:32Speaker 6: be right at Robert Splaine. And to think that he's
- 1:19:35Speaker 6: not a little bit more equipped to stop that, of
- 1:19:38Speaker 6: course than Jack Gibbons or Christian Ellis, I think is
- 1:19:40Speaker 6: just being short sighted a little bit.
- 1:19:43Speaker 2: Uh.
- 1:19:43Speaker 6: The Bills react fans reaction to Mike Rabel's comments about
- 1:19:49Speaker 6: the refs. So I don't care about the fans. I
- 1:19:52Speaker 6: say this all the time.
- 1:19:53Speaker 2: Oh yeah, no, I don't.
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: Okay, I don't care about the fans.
- 1:19:57Speaker 4: I don't.
- 1:19:57Speaker 6: I like you, you be fan however you want to man.
- 1:20:00Speaker 6: The Bills media has taken more exception to it than
- 1:20:05Speaker 6: the fans, and it's like, why why are you care?
- 1:20:09Speaker 2: Like they don't think our media would do this.
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: It's gonna say, the Patriots media is the one who's
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: bringing up the officiating. That's how do you think?
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: Listen. I love Mike Rabel and I know where he
- 1:20:20Speaker 2: was coming from. I agree with him, but he opened
- 1:20:23Speaker 2: him up for this. He opened himself up.
- 1:20:24Speaker 4: For sure, and whatever. He's a big guy, he can
- 1:20:26Speaker 4: handle it.
- 1:20:27Speaker 6: But I just I'm surprised about how much of a
- 1:20:31Speaker 6: story this has been turned into.
- 1:20:33Speaker 2: It this is the soap opa.
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: I didn't realize that.
- 1:20:35Speaker 2: This is the this is the this is why football
- 1:20:37Speaker 2: is great. You're playing the weekend and during the week
- 1:20:40Speaker 2: it's all this crap.
- 1:20:41Speaker 6: Well, I bet that that is part of what I'm
- 1:20:43Speaker 6: talking about. Like people that cover the bills on their beat. Yeah,
- 1:20:48Speaker 6: I don't know, Like.
- 1:20:50Speaker 2: This, this is the drama. This is the soap op.
- 1:20:52Speaker 4: I have zero time for that.
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: You know, like, if you're the media guy, you're supposed
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: to be covering the game, like not like that the
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: official way a long time. But I know when it's
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: can I be like disappointed? Can I be disappointed by that?
- 1:21:06Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: Like that, no one cares about actually covering anymore. Just
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: the crying over Oh he's blaming the riffs, like just
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: to me, Frere. He comes in and sits right where
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: Mike is right now, and they're they're bombarding him with
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: questions about the officiating, Like that's the best you can
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: come up with. You blew a twenty one point leading
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: You're asking why didn't get caugh holding, But like that
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: was the best the media could come up with for questions. Again,
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: I separate EI in your shows. The friends were asked
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: on the press conference yesterday too.
- 1:21:42Speaker 6: Well, because they were asked yesterday as a follow up
- 1:21:45Speaker 6: to what he said on the radio.
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: Fair that's fair. I think they would have been asked anyway.
- 1:21:49Speaker 6: I just look at the the the radio side of
- 1:21:52Speaker 6: it is a little different than like the reporter beat
- 1:21:55Speaker 6: reporter side of it.
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: I think it's all the same. Now, it's just all
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: raw raw, rossis boom.
- 1:22:01Speaker 5: But do you.
- 1:22:01Speaker 4: Understand what I'm saying.
- 1:22:02Speaker 6: It's a different You got wrong, It's a different it's
- 1:22:07Speaker 6: a different cap like, it's a different type of media.
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: It should be right. On the other hand, just think
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: the officials are incompetent in every game. I just don't
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: think they favor your team with the other team.
- 1:22:17Speaker 6: But that's one thing to say that, which is true,
- 1:22:21Speaker 6: But to then like the response to the Rabel stuff
- 1:22:25Speaker 6: from Buffalo's.
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: Media, has the response from the.
- 1:22:30Speaker 6: Get attacked Now, it's like I did with the Broncos.
- 1:22:33Speaker 6: But this is just like you play that role, you're
- 1:22:35Speaker 6: the band. It's just a little weird, bizarre, like we
- 1:22:39Speaker 6: spent all day crying about it, and it's just like.
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: I don't like that. I think if Buffalo is crying
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: about Rabel's reaction, that's weak. I agree with Evan on that,
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: but like the whole thing, like you, I.
- 1:22:55Speaker 2: Listen. I remember in the win game when we beat them,
- 1:22:57Speaker 2: I don't know what was it, six nothing or whatever
- 1:22:59Speaker 2: the score was, and everybody was all over McDermott and
- 1:23:03Speaker 2: his reaction after the game.
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: Yeah, but it wasn't about the officials.
- 1:23:06Speaker 2: No, no, no, but he just just his reaction, you know.
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: The call that And I know that, Fred, you didn't
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: love the Carlton Davis PI where he tugged the shirt.
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: Didn't really feel like there was much of a restriction.
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: I agree with Fred. I thought it was a little
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: tiki tag. I've been told and I didn't really see
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: this live. People have told me that the flag came
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: out so late because the guy was trying to get
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: the flag out and had a hard time. That's why
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: the flag came out as late as it. Because I
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: was really bothered by the timing as well. You know,
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: I was, you know, I don't know, you guys know,
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: I don't usually I was like, that's ridiculous and I
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: don't usually do that. Wait what So I didn't like
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: that call. And I have no problem with coaching, whether
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: it's McDermott or very abel, I have no problem. You
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: didn't like that call. You you're a big boy, you
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: can tell me you didn't like it. I don't like
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: Harbaugh complaining about the Isaiah Likely thing the week prior that.
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: It's very specific. What I didn't like what Mike did
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: here with Ei was the Bills leave the league in
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: holding calls and you think they would get at least
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: one holding call during the course of the game. Well, what,
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: what specifically are you talking about, Mike? Was there, like,
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: did Osiris Torrents tackle Corey Durden on the eleven yard
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: touchdown run and you think they should have been holding?
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: Then say it? There they two holding calls a game.
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: They got one, he said, they didn't get any. They did,
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: and by the way, it was it was a rather
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: important one that took away a go ahead touchdown. It
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: was they just they just happened to score a touchdown
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: on the next play, so you forget it. But they
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: did get called for holding, and it was an important
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: one and it was a legit call.
- 1:24:38Speaker 6: Right, There were a couple, But there's a couple every
- 1:24:40Speaker 6: single week in the trenches where you say this could
- 1:24:42Speaker 6: have been a hold.
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: You know, what my point is, like, hey, this play
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: right here, they were holding. They held Christian Barmore in
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: this play. They should have called holding on this as
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: as opposed to.
- 1:24:52Speaker 4: Seem sure he has sent that to the league?
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: Has I used Barbore because he has been outspoken. He
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: he actually talks to Evan a lot about it. But bro,
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: don't tell them I'm getting held. I'm getting like if
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: John Harbar is saying specifically, like this play right here,
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: we we think that they missed one here, as opposed
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: to just sort of the generic Well.
- 1:25:16Speaker 2: He wants to know, doesn't want to question a specific
- 1:25:19Speaker 2: call because they'll get fined.
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: He maybe maybe, but if you're going to get fined,
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: you're criticizing the officials, that's what you're going to get
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: fined for. So like I.
- 1:25:29Speaker 2: Just just thought it was, you know, we couldn't figure
- 1:25:32Speaker 2: it out, Like how isn't that right?
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: Right? I just don't think it's all that out of
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: the ordinary for a team that averages two holds a
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: game to get called for one.
- 1:25:39Speaker 4: I just don't understand.
- 1:25:40Speaker 6: Think it's not like they were like why are you
- 1:25:43Speaker 6: why that's baby talking?
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: Like why you.
- 1:25:45Speaker 6: Personally offended that? Verbel said that like I just baby talk.
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: Sorry, if the Buffalo media has take has taken that
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: as a crusade, that's baby.
- 1:25:53Speaker 2: I just created controversy. It's it's ratings and clicks. That's
- 1:25:58Speaker 2: all it is.
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: This isn't something which and this is unfortunately, that's what
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: it's deteriorated to.
- 1:26:03Speaker 3: I just hope they hear the voices that say Josh
- 1:26:05Speaker 3: Allen's awesome and he did Josh Allen things, and I
- 1:26:07Speaker 3: have a lot of respect for him as a player.
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: And the Patriots have to be better to slow down too.
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: But they're really listening to New England than they're not
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: getting a lot of bad They get it here on
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: this show, but they don't get it a lot when
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: they listen to the media around here.
- 1:26:18Speaker 2: Russell and Florida speaking of the refs, just now turning in,
- 1:26:21Speaker 2: What did you guys think of the PI and Marcus
- 1:26:23Speaker 2: Jones on the deep Ball? Seems like Jones clearly picked it.
- 1:26:26Speaker 2: I don't think so, but might have gotten there a
- 1:26:29Speaker 2: bit early. And the call to give Buffalo the reception
- 1:26:32Speaker 2: I think was ridiculous. Also, Friendz prayers were finally answered
- 1:26:34Speaker 2: with the Mahomes injury. The Wannabe Dynasty falls anyway on
- 1:26:39Speaker 2: that play. I wasn't up in arms about that play.
- 1:26:43Speaker 2: And here's the way I saw it.
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: The ball.
- 1:26:46Speaker 2: No one possessed the ball until it was on the ground.
- 1:26:51Speaker 2: And at that point it's like fifty to fifty. You
- 1:26:54Speaker 2: go with the offense on those calls. Now, forget about
- 1:26:57Speaker 2: the flag, Like I'm not even talking about the.
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: Flag, Simontan his catch time.
- 1:27:01Speaker 2: Catch goes to the offense. I don't think either player
- 1:27:03Speaker 2: had the ball while they were falling down. I think
- 1:27:06Speaker 2: it was being negotiated at that point with Fred.
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: I think that play was properly officiated. It's it's a
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: tough call. Yeah, I thought he got there early. I
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: thought he interfered, and I thought Shakir had the ball,
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: and then Jones got it when they were on the ground. Yeah,
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: that's how we ended up with it. I generally agree.
- 1:27:22Speaker 3: I just I still when I went back and watched it,
- 1:27:24Speaker 3: it looked closer than I realized.
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: Very close in the ball too. Like I wouldn't say
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: Shakir caught it, like I guess to your point, like
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: either one they both they both both had it. He
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: took possession of it on the ground like he was
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: fitty when Jones got the ball on the ground. I
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: agree with Fred on the day, Yeah, no, I I
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: it was.
- 1:27:41Speaker 2: That's a tough one. Now, whether or not it was
- 1:27:43Speaker 2: p I, I don't know, but at the end of
- 1:27:47Speaker 2: the day, they called it a catch, so it doesn't
- 1:27:49Speaker 2: matter whether it was.
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: I just like, you know, I just like the way
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: Marcus Jones plays. Oh yeah, I just he's not He's
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: not going to give you a thing.
- 1:27:57Speaker 6: That that play drove was from straight in to watch
- 1:28:00Speaker 6: because they knew it was coming, Like they knew they
- 1:28:04Speaker 6: were going to get that exact play call, and they
- 1:28:06Speaker 6: had a check for it. They had it all like
- 1:28:09Speaker 6: all perfectly covered, and Alan just throws a freaking dime
- 1:28:13Speaker 6: to Shakir and it's like this like simultaneous catch thing
- 1:28:17Speaker 6: and was it wasn't it?
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: And I was like, I go, Shakir did not play
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: that well by the way. He should have put his
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: foot down and jump back into Marcus Jones. And then
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: it's clear and obvious passing effects because Jones was was
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: out of position on the play and not really looking
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: at the time, and they kind of both drifted and
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: I think Shakiro was you know, I give Shakill some
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: credit because instead of you know, being a baby and
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: looking for a call, he was trying to make a
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: play on the ball and trying to catch it. But
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: I think he would have gotten both had he just
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: fought back through the contact.
- 1:28:48Speaker 4: Those are the ones, though, that drive you nuts.
- 1:28:50Speaker 6: Because it's like, you you practiced this all week that
- 1:28:54Speaker 6: they're in this situation, they're going to call him mesh,
- 1:28:57Speaker 6: and you're this is what you're going to get. This
- 1:28:58Speaker 6: is how we're going to cover it. And they were
- 1:29:00Speaker 6: right on it and they just made they made the play.
- 1:29:03Speaker 2: Yeah, Norman Daytona Beach writes in about the Buffalo media,
- 1:29:07Speaker 2: what else would you expect from a four time Super
- 1:29:09Speaker 2: Bowl loser?
- 1:29:09Speaker 6: You're here, I'm I'm an ally of Bill's Mafia too,
- 1:29:16Speaker 6: So I know I know that this is going to
- 1:29:18Speaker 6: come off as a bad thing for me to say no,
- 1:29:24Speaker 6: But I have friends in the mafia and and uh
- 1:29:31Speaker 6: and and I like them for the most part.
- 1:29:33Speaker 4: I just this particular one.
- 1:29:35Speaker 6: I was like, this is really like this has really
- 1:29:38Speaker 6: gotten under your skin that he said that, Like.
- 1:29:42Speaker 3: I saw a stupid internet thing that made me just
- 1:29:44Speaker 3: summed up the Internet and social media for me. It
- 1:29:46Speaker 3: was like a Bill's fan going to Patriots fans with
- 1:29:49Speaker 3: like an AI of Josh Allen holding a Super Bowl
- 1:29:52Speaker 3: trophy and it's like, Drake may will never know what
- 1:29:53Speaker 3: this is like what.
- 1:29:56Speaker 2: Like Josh Allen doesn't know what it's like? Like, what
- 1:29:59Speaker 2: are you doing? That's what we've lost The play Jackie
- 1:30:02Speaker 2: and Abba about cold weather clothing and Brady, uh, he said.
- 1:30:05Speaker 2: Brady once said that his freshman roommate at Michigan taught
- 1:30:09Speaker 2: him all about how to dress for the cold there.
- 1:30:12Speaker 2: He said, there is no such thing as bad weather
- 1:30:13Speaker 2: in Michigan. There is only bad clothing. Jacques Cousteau, you go,
- 1:30:17Speaker 2: I know, Ellen Wisconsin said. Drake actually talked about the
- 1:30:21Speaker 2: sleeve thing on one of Paul's shows yesterday. He did
- 1:30:24Speaker 2: say he's figuring it out, but mentioned he prefers sleeveless
- 1:30:27Speaker 2: because that's how he's used to practicing. Well maybe he
- 1:30:30Speaker 2: in the cold weather he should practice differently anyway, something
- 1:30:33Speaker 2: to watch, Yeah, evolving Drake, good stuff, all right, back
- 1:30:37Speaker 2: to the phones. One eight, what's the number? Eight? Five
- 1:30:40Speaker 2: five past five hundred? There you go, that's the one.
- 1:30:42Speaker 9: Uh.
- 1:30:43Speaker 3: Paul's like, come on, the number of nunumbers are hard?
- 1:30:46Speaker 5: Five? Wait?
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: Two ninety eight O three nine. Yeah, the old number.
- 1:30:50Speaker 2: That was the old number. You get his number, you give,
- 1:30:54Speaker 2: don't it some lady in Wisconsin?
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: And I think that's the number. I think it's just
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: the eight hundred number now eight five five, Vinny, Hey
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: you hear me?
- 1:31:04Speaker 16: Okay, yeah, all right, Yeah, I went to the game
- 1:31:08Speaker 16: on us someday.
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: Sorry.
- 1:31:10Speaker 16: It was just a victory just to get there. It was,
- 1:31:13Speaker 16: you know, what a fun first half. You know, I
- 1:31:15Speaker 16: was really loving watching Mndre Stevenson get those tough yards
- 1:31:19Speaker 16: and Trayvon Henderson. And I guess you know, when I
- 1:31:22Speaker 16: think about the second half, yeah, I'm thinking it's a
- 1:31:25Speaker 16: little unfortunate. Defense wasn't able to hold the Bills to
- 1:31:29Speaker 16: a field goal once or twice, but on the offensive side,
- 1:31:33Speaker 16: I'm just curious, And I'm sorry if you guys cover
- 1:31:36Speaker 16: this earn the show coming in late But and I
- 1:31:38Speaker 16: love Josh McDaniels, but do we have any idea of
- 1:31:42Speaker 16: what he might have been seeing or why he was
- 1:31:44Speaker 16: approaching the second half, because I feel like we should
- 1:31:49Speaker 16: have been running the ball more and controlling the clock
- 1:31:52Speaker 16: and keeping Josh Allen off the field, you know, I mean, oh,
- 1:31:56Speaker 16: in all they put up thirty one points, and you know,
- 1:31:59Speaker 16: we saw a lot of interest here with the defense
- 1:32:01Speaker 16: to give up the touchdown on the opening drive, and
- 1:32:03Speaker 16: this was a little bit different. And I'm just sort
- 1:32:05Speaker 16: of wondering if.
- 1:32:06Speaker 20: You guys have any insight as to what.
- 1:32:09Speaker 16: Josh McDaniels was sticking in terms of how he pushed
- 1:32:12Speaker 16: the second half.
- 1:32:13Speaker 4: I'm sure he'll be asked about it.
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: That's money.
- 1:32:15Speaker 6: I mean, we haven't spoken to him since the game,
- 1:32:17Speaker 6: so I'm sure that'll be a question for him tomorrow.
- 1:32:19Speaker 6: I The one thing I will say, and we talked
- 1:32:21Speaker 6: a little bit about it off air, is like, sometimes
- 1:32:24Speaker 6: there's two plays called in the huddle, and the quarterback
- 1:32:26Speaker 6: checks in and out of the play based off of
- 1:32:28Speaker 6: the coverage or what the defense is showing him. So
- 1:32:31Speaker 6: it's possible that they might have had a few more
- 1:32:34Speaker 6: runs like called technically that then we're checked out of
- 1:32:38Speaker 6: into passes. And I'm not saying that that's anybody's fault.
- 1:32:41Speaker 6: It's just sometimes, you know, when you get these questions,
- 1:32:43Speaker 6: you hear coaches say that a lot. Well, you know,
- 1:32:46Speaker 6: they were giving us this, so we checked into a
- 1:32:48Speaker 6: pass on you know, three or four times, and that
- 1:32:51Speaker 6: exkews the numbers or maybe they were you know, RPOs
- 1:32:54Speaker 6: in there and they converted to throws instead of runs
- 1:32:56Speaker 6: or vice versa. You know, there's all these certain different minutia.
- 1:32:59Speaker 6: But it's a fair question that I'm sure he'll get
- 1:33:01Speaker 6: asked about.
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: It is it is.
- 1:33:04Speaker 2: Let's go to Canada. Tony's up there. Hey Tony, Hey guys.
- 1:33:09Speaker 21: That was a hard loss to take on Sunday. But
- 1:33:14Speaker 21: a couple of things. Yeah, I agree. Actually, I was
- 1:33:16Speaker 21: surprised that when we were at the last drive there
- 1:33:20Speaker 21: that we didn't have at least one running play when
- 1:33:23Speaker 21: it was third and five and then fourth and five.
- 1:33:25Speaker 21: But like Alex said, I guess things can change at
- 1:33:29Speaker 21: the line of scrimmage. I think we have to and
- 1:33:32Speaker 21: you guys tell me. I think we have to win
- 1:33:35Speaker 21: out the next three games to finish in the AFC,
- 1:33:38Speaker 21: to win the championship for the AFC East. So that's
- 1:33:43Speaker 21: all I wanted to say. And listen to the rest show.
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: Thanks, okay, thanks any any Thomas No, and I would
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: just say, like the last drive third and five is
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: you know, no timeouts left and you're on your own
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: twenty five yard line down four points. I don't think
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: you can afford to run ball for six yards to
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: try to get a first down. Right, that's not the
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: twenty five seconds or so that that's going to take
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: is not worth the first down?
- 1:34:09Speaker 2: Important question for Paul, says Anthony. During our win streak,
- 1:34:13Speaker 2: quite a few people wrote in to say we aren't
- 1:34:14Speaker 2: playing our best and we need to be more consistent.
- 1:34:17Speaker 2: Paul said that he thinks we are playing as good
- 1:34:19Speaker 2: as we can and it was hard to argue. Now
- 1:34:23Speaker 2: after Sunday's game, I have a question. They scored thirty
- 1:34:25Speaker 2: one points all on offense, no turnovers, no special teams,
- 1:34:28Speaker 2: but it was very clear they didn't play their best ball,
- 1:34:31Speaker 2: particularly in the second half. My question is is it
- 1:34:33Speaker 2: fair to say we didn't play our best game even
- 1:34:36Speaker 2: though we put up thirty one, which was one of
- 1:34:38Speaker 2: the higher scores in weeks.
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: I would say no. I would say that I think
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: people are expecting perfection from a team that is a
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: little bit flawed. You're well ahead of schedule, like you
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: can't score. This is not to be confused with like
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: Kurt Warner's rams, like they're just going to score. They're
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: going to score every time they get the ball. They
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: scored thirty one points. That's a lot, and he's right,
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: there were no defensive points in there that you know,
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: No Marcus Jones return, no returns, no defensive scores. I
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: don't know what you're expecting from mac hollins in Tomario
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: Douglas and Stefan di like. I don't know if you
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: can ask for much more than you got on Sunday. Now,
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: they didn't finish the game. That's disappointing. We talked about
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: it the whole first hour of the show, all the
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: different things that were disappointing, but the very first thing
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: that Evan said, I would wholeheartedly agree with. You're as
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: good as the teams that you're playing against now, but
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: don't confuse that to be that you were better than
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: everybody and that you can just roll and score sixty
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: because you're that good. They played pretty well for large
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: stretches of the game, just not well enough. The other
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: team's pretty good too. Now do you realize that that's
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: three games that they played against teams with winning records
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: one and two. That's I mean, you're playing as well
- 1:36:04Speaker 1: as you can play. I don't think that they underachieved Sunday.
- 1:36:07Speaker 6: Yeah, I just I this is probably a better topic
- 1:36:11Speaker 6: for you know, if they lose in the playoffs.
- 1:36:13Speaker 4: But I think your point about this might be the ceiling.
- 1:36:18Speaker 6: Of this roster, because they might be an offseason away
- 1:36:22Speaker 6: from really having the talent to hang forty one points
- 1:36:26Speaker 6: on the board against Buffalo in a in a big
- 1:36:28Speaker 6: in a big game. You know, we talk a lot
- 1:36:31Speaker 6: about the second half offense, and the numbers aren't good
- 1:36:35Speaker 6: in the second half, But is it possible that the
- 1:36:37Speaker 6: reason that they can't sustain offense into the second half
- 1:36:40Speaker 6: is because they just don't quite have the talent yet
- 1:36:43Speaker 6: to do that. But again, you know, let's see how
- 1:36:46Speaker 6: it goes in the playoffs. Like maybe that that does
- 1:36:49Speaker 6: get corrected for the playoffs. But if we go into
- 1:36:51Speaker 6: the offseason and they let's say, you know, they lose
- 1:36:54Speaker 6: in the playoffs, we're probably gonna say, you know, they
- 1:36:57Speaker 6: they just didn't.
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: Quite have just real yet, just not there yet, and
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: they could win, like they could have won the game Sunday, right, Oh,
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: that's why I want to slink. Like, let's just say,
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: for argument's sake, that they get that run from from
- 1:37:09Speaker 1: Henderson and they go up thirty one to twenty eight,
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: and then the defense holds it out, you win thirty
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: one twenty eighth, So you're suddenly good enough now, like
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: as opposed to not not. Like, if you're Buffalo, I
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: know we you know, we're very patriot centric and we
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: should be. But if you're Buffalo, you're looking at that
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: game in a little bit of a different way. You're
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: looking at it and say, Jesus tell you, if we
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: can just eliminate these big plays, we're better than them.
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: We could have gotten separation from them, but we allow
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: a fifty something yard running, a sixty something yard run,
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: and that allowed them to maintain their their lead. Like,
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: if you're Buffalo, you're looking at we just got to
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: button it up and make sure that we don't give
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: them easy touchdowns, you know what I mean? Like they
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: didn't play well either, Yeah on defense, I mean NA
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: allowed thirty one points. Yeah.
- 1:37:56Speaker 2: John writes in the Hypocrisy of the Refs need to
- 1:37:58Speaker 2: be studied the words of the Great Jim Murray, The
- 1:38:01Speaker 2: refs need to be put in jail, jailed to.
- 1:38:05Speaker 1: Jail.
- 1:38:05Speaker 2: The no PI call for Hollands and the PI call
- 1:38:07Speaker 2: against Marcus Jones has proof someone in Vegas made a
- 1:38:10Speaker 2: phone call. There was substantially more interruption on the Drake
- 1:38:13Speaker 2: May interception intended to Holland's than the call against Jones
- 1:38:16Speaker 2: Vus Shakir, two game changing decisions by the reps. If
- 1:38:19Speaker 2: either one went the other way, the Patris would have
- 1:38:22Speaker 2: held the lead.
- 1:38:22Speaker 4: Well, I I would just like the Marcus Jones won.
- 1:38:27Speaker 4: I agree.
- 1:38:28Speaker 6: I didn't think it was DPI. But it was a
- 1:38:30Speaker 6: catch for Shakill rule to the catch, so like it's
- 1:38:33Speaker 6: gonna be a thirty seven yard play for Shakiir regardless
- 1:38:35Speaker 6: of if it's a penalty.
- 1:38:36Speaker 1: Y So that one, everybody's convinced there was an interception.
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: So that's where you're that's where you're wrong, YEF.
- 1:38:42Speaker 2: But but but you'd have to overturn two things. Now,
- 1:38:44Speaker 2: One it wasn't a penalty, and two it wasn't a
- 1:38:47Speaker 2: catch by.
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: I'm not the Bills. I'm not saying never.
- 1:38:51Speaker 6: The simultaneous catch thing happens like more frequently than.
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: You think often, and it all that's the rule. It
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: just happened the previous week with Alan Rodgers.
- 1:39:00Speaker 6: It's tie goes to the runner like it like in baseball,
- 1:39:03Speaker 6: Like it's that's the rule. So that rule that ball
- 1:39:06Speaker 6: is standing as a catch for Shakira.
- 1:39:08Speaker 4: That one's interfer.
- 1:39:10Speaker 2: The Davis one is the one that I was upset about.
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: So can I just say one thing too, you know,
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: like with the officiating thing, which I hate officials. You
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: guys know that. So first let's go to the first
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: drive of the game for both teams. There's a thirty
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: yard pass down the sideline the Kaishan Boodie that gene seratory. Evidently,
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: and you were listening to the broadcast, Fred said that
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: if this has gone to replay, it would have gotten overturned.
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: There's no expedited replay for some reason on this one.
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: So obviously the officials ruin the take against the Bills
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: because on the next drive, Brandon Cooks makes a catch
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: that he bobbles on the sideline and originally is called
- 1:39:44Speaker 1: the catch. Bills are getting ready to snap the ball
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: and no, no, no expedite to replay. The play has
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: been ruled incomplete. So one play has an expertite to replay,
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: no no challenge necessary. Another play no expertite to replay,
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: and the Bills needed to challenge didn't get a che
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: answer to it because the Patriots wisely snapped the ball.
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: Is that like is that an you know, hypocrisy or
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: is that just in competence? Right? John Hussey's involved, big shock.
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: I mean, there was no control in the game. How
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: many times do we hear from John Hussey?
- 1:40:14Speaker 4: He's not a great Please.
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: Reset the game clock to twenty three seconds. No, there's
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: no runoff, Like, sorry for the confusion. We got it right,
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: you did, We got it right though. Oh I feel
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: much better now, John, you got it right.
- 1:40:26Speaker 4: And the replay assist is kind of broken too, you
- 1:40:29Speaker 4: know what I mean?
- 1:40:30Speaker 6: Every week it's like, wait, are you sure that happened
- 1:40:34Speaker 6: to be watching that play?
- 1:40:35Speaker 1: Yeah? Yeah, I mean there was a first down that
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: the Bills ran for and they called it a first
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: down in the field all of a sudden, No, no, no,
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: the ball has been respotted. I expected a replay. It's
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: actually short of the line the game, So now the
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: Bill's got to run a quarterback sneak to get the
- 1:40:47Speaker 1: first down. Like, there's all kinds of things that you
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: could look at. It's possible impropriety. I don't think it's impropriety.
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: I think it's incompetence.
- 1:40:55Speaker 2: Max and Santa Barbara just a few thoughts. One seeing
- 1:40:58Speaker 2: Nick Daniels and Woodiams. It looks to me like they
- 1:41:01Speaker 2: have a more aggressive set of play calls. Two, Mike
- 1:41:05Speaker 2: and Company have to improve this defense, especially the secondary.
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: Three.
- 1:41:09Speaker 2: If Philip Rivers can come out of retirement after five years,
- 1:41:12Speaker 2: is two outrageous to call Gronk and offer him five
- 1:41:15Speaker 2: hundred thousand or more. Let him work out for two
- 1:41:17Speaker 2: or three weeks, Maybe have him play some snaps in
- 1:41:19Speaker 2: game seventeen and have him ready for the playoffs. All
- 1:41:22Speaker 2: he can say is no. The red zone offense would
- 1:41:25Speaker 2: certainly be upgraded anyway. Let's not let the success of
- 1:41:27Speaker 2: the past spoil things. Now. We are way ahead of
- 1:41:30Speaker 2: schedule on this rebuild. Love the show since three party on.
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: Gronk officially retired though, And I don't think.
- 1:41:36Speaker 2: You know it's come out of retirement.
- 1:41:39Speaker 6: Yeah, Philip Rivers retire press conference with the Chargers.
- 1:41:42Speaker 4: Yeah, and he literally had We'll.
- 1:41:44Speaker 1: Get more of that, I'm sure tomorrow. But he did
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: all right. I mean he didn't light it up then
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: a lot of shot short.
- 1:41:54Speaker 3: I didn't want the Clo win, but he won me
- 1:41:56Speaker 3: over just watching him play. I was like, I want
- 1:41:58Speaker 3: to see Philip Rivers.
- 1:41:59Speaker 1: No, he didn't do like anything special. You know a
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: lot of little short throws. But you know, then the
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: Colts defense obviously played a really good game and kept
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: him in it. But he did all right, he did.
- 1:42:08Speaker 1: I mean, I didn't know what I was expecting because
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: I just I have have a take here too, like
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: have you heard a lot of this, Like what an
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: indictment on the NFL and the lack of being able
- 1:42:18Speaker 1: to develop quarterbacks? And I'm like, how many quarterbacks should
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: the Colts be expected to have? Like they're on the
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: fourth quarterback, Like they can't just take someone else's backup
- 1:42:29Speaker 1: and plug him in. Would that be a better option? Like,
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: uld be a better option?
- 1:42:34Speaker 4: Riley Leonard would have played if he was healthy?
- 1:42:36Speaker 16: Ye?
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: Right?
- 1:42:36Speaker 4: Or Anthony Richardson for.
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: That, if Anthony Richardson didn't you know, have that mishap
- 1:42:40Speaker 1: with the thing that hit him in the face, Yeah,
- 1:42:44Speaker 1: he'd have been the backup quarterback. We wouldn't be talking
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: about this. But you can't just take someone else's backup
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: and play him. Where else were they to be expected
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: to get a guy off the street that would know
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: the offense and be able to play in a game.
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: And at that when you're still in the playoff. To me,
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: you're very much. I look at this is like an
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: embarrassment of the NFL and an indictment on their abilion.
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: That's widespread. That's I guess I'm in the minority on that.
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: But I don't know what else. I don't know what
- 1:43:11Speaker 1: a better option was, especially with the emergency quarterback role.
- 1:43:15Speaker 6: Now, a lot of teams like the like the Patriots
- 1:43:18Speaker 6: are carrying three on the active roster because you can
- 1:43:21Speaker 6: make one inactive, like they have been with Tommy DeVito.
- 1:43:24Speaker 6: So there actually is even fewer quarterbacks on practice squads
- 1:43:28Speaker 6: at the moment because a lot of teams are carrying
- 1:43:30Speaker 6: three on the fifty three man roster, not two in.
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: Well, even if there was like a Bailey Zappi on
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: someone's practice squad, and I don't know if he's on
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: Cleveland's practice squad or acts so, but let's just say
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: for arguments sake, he was on the practice squad. Yeah,
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: you can sign a guy like that off a practice
- 1:43:46Speaker 1: squad and bring him in. Is that a better option
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: a guy who? I mean, if you have a guy
- 1:43:54Speaker 1: that maybe spent some time with Shane steiken H and
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: he's on a practice squad, then I could make an
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: argument that's a better option. But unless you get give
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: me an example of that, I just don't I think
- 1:44:04Speaker 1: look at this as an embarrassment. No, I almost think
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: the opposite is true.
- 1:44:06Speaker 3: I think I mean, I if you go back to
- 1:44:08Speaker 3: the end of Brady's career, that felt like there was
- 1:44:10Speaker 3: no quarterback coming out, no quarterbacks developing.
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: But I feel like it's gotten better. Quarter the league
- 1:44:17Speaker 1: pretty good spot. It is always going to be hard.
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: But thirty two, if you took the thirty two, how
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: many are really good? I think, how many guys are
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: we looking at in the league right now that are
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: that are reasonably good? You know Trevor Lawrence and we
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: think they stink.
- 1:44:30Speaker 6: He's on the practice squad in Cleveland, by Zappi, because
- 1:44:33Speaker 6: they have like seventeen quarterbacks, right, so.
- 1:44:35Speaker 1: If he but if he was on, if he had
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: some experience with stich and you can make an argument
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: for that something like that, But like, what would you
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: rather have if you were a cult span Philip Rivers
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: Bailey Zappi, Yeah, what's the difference.
- 1:44:49Speaker 4: You think Drew's got a few in them if they
- 1:44:51Speaker 4: needed to.
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: They tried to get him a couple of Jacksonville. This
- 1:44:54Speaker 1: is a while ago now and he was already He's like.
- 1:44:57Speaker 2: No, no, no, no, no, jerem I says I saw that.
- 1:45:00Speaker 2: Andrew Callahan said that the Patriots hardly ran any play action,
- 1:45:04Speaker 2: which seems really surprising considering that we had such success
- 1:45:08Speaker 2: running the ball in the first half. Is there any
- 1:45:10Speaker 2: reason why we moved away from it, especially with Drake
- 1:45:13Speaker 2: struggling throughout the game?
- 1:45:14Speaker 6: They ran three play action dropacks, which is low. But
- 1:45:19Speaker 6: when you play you know, certain defenses, play action works
- 1:45:22Speaker 6: better against. Normally, when you play zone defenses, you know,
- 1:45:26Speaker 6: you like to run play action because those players are
- 1:45:28Speaker 6: they dropping into coverage or are they coming up to
- 1:45:30Speaker 6: stop the run. But when you play you know, a
- 1:45:32Speaker 6: team that plays a lot of man to man coverage,
- 1:45:35Speaker 6: it's not it doesn't have that same like effect on
- 1:45:38Speaker 6: the defense because it's just I have this guy, you know,
- 1:45:41Speaker 6: and there's less run responsibilities for those players. So there
- 1:45:44Speaker 6: was probably something like that going on with Buffalo as
- 1:45:47Speaker 6: to what they were seeing from what they were doing
- 1:45:51Speaker 6: that they didn't feel like play action was going to work.
- 1:45:54Speaker 6: I do also kind of feel like people just like
- 1:45:56Speaker 6: use play action as like, well, if nothing's working, just
- 1:45:59Speaker 6: run play act like it's just like, you know, kind.
- 1:46:02Speaker 1: Of whatever their code, whatever they did, and it doesn't work.
- 1:46:06Speaker 1: It was wrong and that and I get it. That's
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: what comes. That's part of the terror, you know. Josh
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: mcden is a big boy. That's part of the offensive
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: coordinated territory.
- 1:46:13Speaker 6: But they were getting a decent amount of man coverage, uh,
- 1:46:17Speaker 6: you know from Buffalo. And there's a dissertation somewhere on
- 1:46:21Speaker 6: the Internet of Bill Belichick talking about why you don't
- 1:46:24Speaker 6: call play action as often against man coverage.
- 1:46:27Speaker 4: That's who I learned it from.
- 1:46:30Speaker 1: So I'll find it.
- 1:46:31Speaker 3: Something else is gonna bite on the running back other
- 1:46:32Speaker 3: than the guy who's got them right, Like right, I
- 1:46:35Speaker 3: mean the safeties, aren't you know.
- 1:46:36Speaker 2: No one's paying attention, right, Chris writes, Uh, sends me
- 1:46:41Speaker 2: a picture that's going around and read it that. He says,
- 1:46:44Speaker 2: Uh proves that Marcus Jones caught the ball. I'm looking
- 1:46:48Speaker 2: at the picture and all that.
- 1:46:51Speaker 1: I don't care didn't.
- 1:46:52Speaker 2: That's all it proved.
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: They proves that both guys have the hands on the ball.
- 1:46:55Speaker 2: Well, Shakira looks like he has his hands on Marcus Jones,
- 1:46:58Speaker 2: but to me, it's still no either one of them
- 1:47:01Speaker 2: has possession.
- 1:47:02Speaker 6: I think our fan base is smart enough to not
- 1:47:05Speaker 6: fall into screenshot.
- 1:47:07Speaker 1: I love screenshots, but it looks like that's the ball.
- 1:47:11Speaker 2: That's his elbow. But no, it's in the part. It's
- 1:47:14Speaker 2: somewhere in there.
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: But who has it exactly?
- 1:47:17Speaker 2: That's my point.
- 1:47:17Speaker 1: I think both of them do. I think Marcus Jones
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: had his hands on the ball. I'm not saying Jones
- 1:47:21Speaker 1: didn't have the ball, but you guys are shot. If
- 1:47:24Speaker 1: it's dual possession, it goes to the screen.
- 1:47:26Speaker 4: Can't you can ever do screenshots that's not It doesn't My.
- 1:47:29Speaker 1: Favorite screenshots on holds, those are my favorites. Fred used
- 1:47:33Speaker 1: to send those to me. All the divester he's wide open,
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: like with no context. Quarterbacks on the on the right
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: sideline and the receivers all by himself on the left
- 1:47:45Speaker 1: side line. Throw it to him.
- 1:47:46Speaker 2: He's opiate, but I like Reddit me too. Let's go
- 1:47:49Speaker 2: to Charles in North Carolina. What's up, Charles?
- 1:47:55Speaker 22: It was one on folks, first time caller, a long
- 1:47:57Speaker 22: time listener.
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: Oh thank you, so I appreciate you appreciate it for me.
- 1:48:04Speaker 22: Quick question. I've been on hold for a couple of minutes.
- 1:48:06Speaker 22: I kind of forgot Okay, Yeah, I know we run
- 1:48:08Speaker 22: a buff fight kind of offense and Drake may find
- 1:48:10Speaker 22: is the open guy and I'm happy with definitely got
- 1:48:13Speaker 22: a lot of players on the team, especially in the
- 1:48:14Speaker 22: wide receiver room. But what do you guys think about
- 1:48:17Speaker 22: maybe trying to get stuff on Digs a little more involved,
- 1:48:19Speaker 22: not trying to force feed him, but you know, maybe
- 1:48:21Speaker 22: say he's our best playmaker, see if he can start
- 1:48:23Speaker 22: making some more plays for us. And another question is
- 1:48:26Speaker 22: how kind of concerned are you guys with Baltimore's run
- 1:48:28Speaker 22: game with Derrick Henry and Lamar Jackson, with Milton Williams
- 1:48:32Speaker 22: being out. I know, Congress Tonkin came back and he
- 1:48:35Speaker 22: kind of helped, but I feel like Milton williams presence
- 1:48:37Speaker 22: in the middle is still being missed. And then we
- 1:48:40Speaker 22: know got Dvaan a Chan and Breese Hall coming up
- 1:48:42Speaker 22: in the last three weeks. So how do you guys
- 1:48:43Speaker 22: feel about our ability to still be able to stop
- 1:48:45Speaker 22: the run coming up here in the next few weeks.
- 1:48:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm worried about that, Charles. I mean, you know,
- 1:48:49Speaker 2: Conda came back, but it didn't look good.
- 1:48:51Speaker 4: Major concern.
- 1:48:52Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it didn't look specially this week Yeah.
- 1:48:55Speaker 6: So Baltimore has been had other issues on their roster.
- 1:48:58Speaker 6: Their run game is as good as always.
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: Now.
- 1:49:00Speaker 2: I've always been under the belief that any NFL team,
- 1:49:05Speaker 2: if they really sell out, can stop the run to
- 1:49:08Speaker 2: a degree if they but what do you giving up?
- 1:49:11Speaker 2: What are you sacrificing goal line? And can you give
- 1:49:13Speaker 2: that up? Can you can you overcome what you're sacrificing
- 1:49:17Speaker 2: by selling out against the run?
- 1:49:18Speaker 6: There was definitely some times in this game where they
- 1:49:20Speaker 6: were kind of running like four or even just like
- 1:49:23Speaker 6: lighter five man fronts where I thought to myself, like,
- 1:49:27Speaker 6: is this really that Buffalo team where like you're so
- 1:49:31Speaker 6: afraid of Alan in the passing game that you know
- 1:49:34Speaker 6: you're trying to stop the run out of light boxes
- 1:49:37Speaker 6: or you're trying you're running four man fronts instead of
- 1:49:39Speaker 6: putting more guys on the line of scrimmage. I just
- 1:49:41Speaker 6: don't know if that is where Buffalo is at, Like
- 1:49:45Speaker 6: Buffalo right now, their best player besides Allen is James
- 1:49:48Speaker 6: Cook and it's not particularly close.
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: Yeah, And so I don't know.
- 1:49:52Speaker 6: If you play them a third time, you do wonder if, like,
- 1:49:55Speaker 6: can you get a little bit bigger on the line
- 1:49:57Speaker 6: of scrimmage. Can you put some more beef on the
- 1:49:59Speaker 6: line and maybe try to stop the run a little
- 1:50:01Speaker 6: bit more that way. But every time you talk to players,
- 1:50:05Speaker 6: not you know, nerds like me that and you ask
- 1:50:07Speaker 6: them about stopping the run, the first thing that they
- 1:50:10Speaker 6: say is that it's a mentality. It's a want to,
- 1:50:14Speaker 6: it's a mentality. It's not They don't talk x's and o's,
- 1:50:17Speaker 6: they don't talk technique. Even they talk about you need
- 1:50:20Speaker 6: to go into the game and say not today, like
- 1:50:23Speaker 6: we're not gonna get run on. And that's what the
- 1:50:25Speaker 6: Patriots are gonna have to do on Sunday night because
- 1:50:27Speaker 6: there Jimmy's and Joe's ain't gonna get any better.
- 1:50:29Speaker 4: Like it's gonna be this group.
- 1:50:30Speaker 2: Right Steven and Fort drum My wife and I are
- 1:50:34Speaker 2: active duty Army. Thank you for your service. And we
- 1:50:36Speaker 2: met in college at Norwich, but she and her family
- 1:50:39Speaker 2: are from Buffalo and our huge Bills fans. We've been
- 1:50:42Speaker 2: together for six years now and this time of year
- 1:50:44Speaker 2: has always been contentious, as my in laws described me
- 1:50:47Speaker 2: as insufferable to the extended family. We recently bought a
- 1:50:51Speaker 2: house and I have to say the worst part about
- 1:50:53Speaker 2: Sunday's loss isn't the twenty one point blown lead, but
- 1:50:57Speaker 2: the fact that I can't bitch about it in my
- 1:50:59Speaker 2: own house all jokes aside by being constantly behind enemy lines.
- 1:51:03Speaker 2: I can confidently report that the Bills fans are scared
- 1:51:07Speaker 2: of the Patriots. For Buffalo, it's super Bowl or bust
- 1:51:10Speaker 2: this year. Anything less is a complete choke and a
- 1:51:13Speaker 2: humiliation for New England. At worst, we are the perfect
- 1:51:16Speaker 2: Buffalo spoiler team, and at best we win a seventh ring.
- 1:51:21Speaker 3: Yeah, I agree, I'd be feeling if I was a
- 1:51:22Speaker 3: Buffalo Bills fan, I'd feel the same kind of pressure
- 1:51:24Speaker 3: I felt when you know, Brady and Belichick were in
- 1:51:27Speaker 3: their prime and it was just that's what it was about.
- 1:51:29Speaker 3: And when you see a year lineup like this where
- 1:51:31Speaker 3: your boogeyman is out of the way, Now, what excuse
- 1:51:35Speaker 3: do you have.
- 1:51:35Speaker 1: I wouldn't feel like that because I feel like they
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: have a guy that they didn't have in all those years.
- 1:51:40Speaker 1: They would go to the gunfight with not even a knife.
- 1:51:44Speaker 1: Now it's a gunfight. They like they can win a
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: game like they did Sunday. They couldn't win that game
- 1:51:49Speaker 1: against Peedy.
- 1:51:49Speaker 6: That is how they win games. That's what I'm saying
- 1:51:52Speaker 6: that this descriptive Sunday is how.
- 1:51:53Speaker 4: They've won all of their games.
- 1:51:55Speaker 1: Well, if I was Buffalo, that's how I would feel like, I, Okay, yeah,
- 1:51:58Speaker 1: he's good, He's really good. Think that Drake May is
- 1:52:00Speaker 1: going to be excellent. I have a guy who's can
- 1:52:03Speaker 1: match him and be better than him. I do agree
- 1:52:05Speaker 1: they didn't have that. They didn't have that in the
- 1:52:07Speaker 1: Brady era.
- 1:52:08Speaker 16: I do.
- 1:52:09Speaker 4: Do you think they're feeling some pressure?
- 1:52:11Speaker 1: Yeah, I.
- 1:52:13Speaker 3: Mean the pressure is no ma homes Yeah no, no, yeah,
- 1:52:15Speaker 3: that's the point I was trying to make sure. Yeah, no,
- 1:52:17Speaker 3: that was the point. And it's going to make a
- 1:52:19Speaker 3: point about the Patriots. I was just saying, we Buffalo
- 1:52:22Speaker 3: Patriots out of it. Just look at Buffalo. What's stopped them?
- 1:52:24Speaker 3: Like now, there's no chance.
- 1:52:25Speaker 1: I I agree with you on that. I'm just I'm
- 1:52:27Speaker 1: just talking about the emailer with we're going to do
- 1:52:31Speaker 1: that again. Wasn't expecting like like we did, like we
- 1:52:33Speaker 1: did on our broadcast it, Yeah, we're going.
- 1:52:35Speaker 22: To do it.
- 1:52:35Speaker 1: That was good.
- 1:52:36Speaker 6: I used the twenty four Celtics comparison I think last
- 1:52:40Speaker 6: week about like the Celtics when they won the title.
- 1:52:44Speaker 4: The Seas like parted for them in the in the
- 1:52:46Speaker 4: in the you know.
- 1:52:47Speaker 6: That Janni's got heart, everybody got hurt or got knocked
- 1:52:50Speaker 6: out by another team or something like that, and they
- 1:52:52Speaker 6: like had this easy, easy path.
- 1:52:54Speaker 4: I'm not saying Buffalo is going to have a cake walk.
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: It's not going to be an easy path.
- 1:52:58Speaker 6: But at the same of time, like they are the
- 1:53:01Speaker 6: They are the best team on paper and the team
- 1:53:04Speaker 6: that has the best quarterback, so they they should win.
- 1:53:08Speaker 1: They should.
- 1:53:08Speaker 2: You're a betting person and you had a really good
- 1:53:11Speaker 2: odds for Buffalo against the field to win to get
- 1:53:14Speaker 2: to the Super Bowl, would you take that bet? Sure,
- 1:53:17Speaker 2: the field.
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: I would take the field because they're going to be
- 1:53:20Speaker 1: on the road, because they're gonna win three road games
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: because they choke. The bigger thing is that they go
- 1:53:26Speaker 1: now to your point, maybe that'll somehow weirdly alleviate the
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: pressure a little bit. Yeah, you know, we got to
- 1:53:32Speaker 1: run three road games for them. I think that it's
- 1:53:35Speaker 1: important that they finish well and slide up to the
- 1:53:39Speaker 1: five spot, which would give them a chance to you know,
- 1:53:42Speaker 1: a decent chance to avoid Denver because then if six
- 1:53:46Speaker 1: or seven can win in that game, at six seven,
- 1:53:50Speaker 1: they they can possibly you know that that team would
- 1:53:53Speaker 1: go to Denver instead. If the Patriots are two and
- 1:53:55Speaker 1: they play seven, the Patriots win, and then you know
- 1:53:58Speaker 1: the three is going to be you know, either Houston
- 1:54:01Speaker 1: or Jacksonville. If that six can beat the three, then
- 1:54:06Speaker 1: they would go to Denver. Yeah, right, and then you
- 1:54:08Speaker 1: get Buffalo, then you get Pittsburgh, Right, they would get Buffalo.
- 1:54:11Speaker 4: Yeah, I definitely think and I know would.
- 1:54:14Speaker 1: Pittsburgh not not gonna win? No, I know, I'm saying
- 1:54:16Speaker 1: for all the same for the Patriots.
- 1:54:18Speaker 6: I know I was kind of making fun of the
- 1:54:19Speaker 6: Bills media earlier, but like you can kind of feel
- 1:54:22Speaker 6: it and see it with the fans and the media
- 1:54:25Speaker 6: in Buffalo that like this is like they're starting to
- 1:54:28Speaker 6: feel the pressure a little bit about maximizing alan.
- 1:54:30Speaker 1: Like you need to like win one. I could understand that.
- 1:54:35Speaker 6: Yeah, And I think that that's some of the Rabel stuff,
- 1:54:37Speaker 6: Like I think that's where some of that reaction is
- 1:54:39Speaker 6: coming from, is that like this is this should be
- 1:54:42Speaker 6: their the year, this is the year for them to win.
- 1:54:44Speaker 1: He's twenty nine years old. I mean, yeah, you know,
- 1:54:46Speaker 1: the time is now. And then the other thing is
- 1:54:50Speaker 1: does Baltimore win these games? Yeah, and is it so
- 1:54:54Speaker 1: if you do slide up to five, do you go,
- 1:54:56Speaker 1: is it Baltimore?
- 1:54:56Speaker 16: Is it?
- 1:54:57Speaker 1: Is it Buffalo at Baltimore? Yeah, which to he changes
- 1:55:00Speaker 1: the whole complexion of things. And then you want to
- 1:55:02Speaker 1: stay sick so you can don't play you know, Jacksonville
- 1:55:04Speaker 1: or Houston. So the bottom linees just don't think about it.
- 1:55:06Speaker 1: You just try to win games.
- 1:55:09Speaker 2: Kendall's in North Carolina. What's up, Kendall?
- 1:55:13Speaker 22: Hey, what's going on?
- 1:55:16Speaker 16: I'm probably going to the Bottomore game this weekend. I
- 1:55:19Speaker 16: know any parties that's gonna be.
- 1:55:20Speaker 22: In there be in the area.
- 1:55:23Speaker 2: There is going to be a huge one and I
- 1:55:24Speaker 2: don't have the information in front of me, so probably
- 1:55:28Speaker 2: by tomorrow's show at noon, somebody will send it to
- 1:55:31Speaker 2: me and I'll announce it on the show tomorrow. Or
- 1:55:33Speaker 2: you can go to the uh Patriots tailgate page on Facebook.
- 1:55:38Speaker 2: I know Barry incioon usually has that all that information,
- 1:55:42Speaker 2: so it's called Patriots Tailgate. It's on Facebook to get
- 1:55:45Speaker 2: it or to listen tomorrow and I'll tell you all
- 1:55:48Speaker 2: about a Kendall. Thanks for the call. Danny's in Daytona.
- 1:55:52Speaker 2: What's up? Danny, Hey, how's it go guys?
- 1:55:55Speaker 15: Can you guys hear me?
- 1:55:58Speaker 1: Hey?
- 1:55:59Speaker 22: So today I just I called it on Sunday.
- 1:56:02Speaker 23: After the whole past couple of days of you know,
- 1:56:04Speaker 23: depressing you know, from the game, and got to realize that,
- 1:56:09Speaker 23: you know, the loss was I guess a good teaching
- 1:56:11Speaker 23: point that everyone's called in and said about. One thing
- 1:56:15Speaker 23: I still want to keep harping on is the special teams.
- 1:56:18Speaker 23: I think that the Patriots should move in a different
- 1:56:21Speaker 23: action with the punter and the coordinator just for various reasons.
- 1:56:25Speaker 23: We've just over the last couple of years, even long
- 1:56:28Speaker 23: before the Jeremy Springer was here, we just have had
- 1:56:31Speaker 23: wild inconsistencies on special teams and for in it like that,
- 1:56:35Speaker 23: it shouldn't be like that. I mean, we look at
- 1:56:37Speaker 23: some of the cross the league with Buffalo, and you
- 1:56:39Speaker 23: look at other teams that have some really, really good
- 1:56:40Speaker 23: coordinators courting special teams. I just really think they need
- 1:56:43Speaker 23: to address that in the off season. It's something that
- 1:56:47Speaker 23: it's been an ongoing thing for you know, three or
- 1:56:50Speaker 23: four years now that it just hasn't seemed to be
- 1:56:52Speaker 23: We have weeks where it looks good and then goes
- 1:56:54Speaker 23: back to like, we know what we're doing, and then
- 1:56:56Speaker 23: we go to another week it looks good again and
- 1:56:58Speaker 23: then goes back to doing what we're doing. So I
- 1:57:01Speaker 23: think they need to change that. As for the defense,
- 1:57:05Speaker 23: I'm hoping that Midlands comes back and maybe he can
- 1:57:08Speaker 23: maybe the run game will get fixed again. Looked, you know,
- 1:57:11Speaker 23: halfway decent, like in the Ricers break part of the season.
- 1:57:14Speaker 23: And the one thing I don't know if you guys
- 1:57:16Speaker 23: noticed that David Andrews and and uh, your guy Bars,
- 1:57:24Speaker 23: he came out of there and mentioned that about the penalties.
- 1:57:27Speaker 23: I was watching it this morning on that Port five
- 1:57:30Speaker 23: four club. He was talking about if you remember in
- 1:57:32Speaker 23: the beginning of the season, there was so many ridiculous
- 1:57:35Speaker 23: penalties and we were all like, this is not a
- 1:57:38Speaker 23: mic Rable coach team, and their penalties just left and
- 1:57:41Speaker 23: right on all sides of the ball. And now you
- 1:57:43Speaker 23: see the task game reminders throwing hands and then uh,
- 1:57:48Speaker 23: Dave Andrews even said during the Giants game that didn't
- 1:57:51Speaker 23: happen there when Ellis hit their quarterback, you saw high.
- 1:57:55Speaker 23: They're professional. So I don't know if you guys can
- 1:57:57Speaker 23: elaborate on that with why the professionals them in the penalties.
- 1:58:02Speaker 23: How that happened?
- 1:58:03Speaker 2: Okay, So I guess he's saying that there aren't as
- 1:58:06Speaker 2: many penalties as there were before or they.
- 1:58:09Speaker 1: Have the season. I think a little bit of penalties
- 1:58:12Speaker 1: have dropped off.
- 1:58:13Speaker 2: I have them not an issue for me.
- 1:58:15Speaker 1: They were an issue on Sunday, but that I think
- 1:58:18Speaker 1: that the penalties dropped off from the from the early
- 1:58:21Speaker 1: part of the season. I think those two plays are
- 1:58:22Speaker 1: very similar. When Christianewis hit Jackson Dart on the sideline,
- 1:58:26Speaker 1: a guy from the Giants came over and took exception
- 1:58:28Speaker 1: to the hit and he got the penalty. This one reminder,
- 1:58:33Speaker 1: Stevenson took exception to the hit that he got on
- 1:58:36Speaker 1: the sideline and he threw He actually threw a punch,
- 1:58:40Speaker 1: and for whatever reason, I don't know if there's gonna
- 1:58:43Speaker 1: be an inquiry on this, they decided to call a
- 1:58:45Speaker 1: penalty on the guy who got punched. And the guy
- 1:58:47Speaker 1: who punched I like that, so they called offsetting that right.
- 1:58:51Speaker 2: Well, Remindre's punch was justified, but.
- 1:58:55Speaker 1: Not if you asked Mike Grabel. I just like Mike
- 1:58:57Speaker 1: Grabel was not happy with reminder Stevenson on how.
- 1:59:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know Robin, we'll end the show on
- 1:59:04Speaker 2: this email, He says, Am I crazy for thinking the
- 1:59:07Speaker 2: Patriots played well? So much of this episode has been
- 1:59:10Speaker 2: people asking what went wrong. I had no idea what
- 1:59:13Speaker 2: was going to happen in that game. Part of me
- 1:59:14Speaker 2: was thinking the Patriots might lose badly. I thought that
- 1:59:17Speaker 2: all the turnovers in the first Bills game might have
- 1:59:19Speaker 2: given us a skewed perception of how good this Patriots
- 1:59:22Speaker 2: team really is. The fact that they almost won means
- 1:59:25Speaker 2: that they belong. Am I crazy for thinking like that?
- 1:59:29Speaker 1: No? I told you right.
- 1:59:30Speaker 2: I've then started the show.
- 1:59:31Speaker 1: I told you I thought they played really well in
- 1:59:33Speaker 1: the game, and I don't know why you thought they
- 1:59:35Speaker 1: were going to get blown out. Quite honestly, you guys
- 1:59:37Speaker 1: have been telling me for ten straight weeks how this
- 1:59:41Speaker 1: how good this team is, and in the back of
- 1:59:43Speaker 1: your mind you thought there was a chance they were
- 1:59:44Speaker 1: going to get blown out. I didn't think there was
- 1:59:46Speaker 1: any chance they were going to get blown out.
- 1:59:47Speaker 4: You skated with them, They just let you let them
- 1:59:49Speaker 4: off the hook.
- 1:59:50Speaker 1: Yeah, Fred, just real quick. I looked it up.
- 1:59:52Speaker 3: So there is a this Saturday night, seven to nine
- 1:59:54Speaker 3: pm at Lucky's Tavern ten Marketplace in Baltimore.
- 1:59:58Speaker 1: There be a fan party. I think it's the official part.
- 2:00:00Speaker 1: Some cheerleaders will be there.
- 2:00:01Speaker 2: I think the Patriots are actually sending uh pat Patriot
- 2:00:04Speaker 2: down there.
- 2:00:04Speaker 3: They've got a picture of pat Patriot on there. And
- 2:00:06Speaker 3: so yeah, seven and nine, all ages welcome at Lucky's
- 2:00:09Speaker 3: tap flight.
- 2:00:14Speaker 1: I don't know that. I don't know that that's good.
- 2:00:16Speaker 1: I don't know Baltimore it's in. Is that where you're
- 2:00:18Speaker 1: staying from. Yeah, there's going to be giveaways, raffles, surprise
- 2:00:24Speaker 1: appearances may just but not me. Paul will be here.
- 2:00:29Speaker 1: Paul be holding down the floor. He's not a man
- 2:00:31Speaker 1: of the people. No, no, behind the people.
- 2:00:35Speaker 2: When I went to Tennessee in Nashville, they a lot
- 2:00:38Speaker 2: of people are saying, what is Evan coming?
- 2:00:40Speaker 1: What do you mean?
- 2:00:40Speaker 4: I'm not a man of the people. We have the
- 2:00:42Speaker 4: show's over.
- 2:00:43Speaker 17: But what is that?
- 2:00:45Speaker 2: You don't like people?
- 2:00:46Speaker 4: You're right that.
- 2:00:49Speaker 1: People not for you.
- 2:00:50Speaker 2: All right, we'll see it tomorrow and cat ten am
- 2:00:54Speaker 2: all right, Hey, this is Alex.
- 2:00:58Speaker 4: Thanks for tuning into the show.
