Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: So welcome to Heavy today, guys.
- 0:01Speaker 2: And unless you've been living under a rock for the
- 0:03Speaker 2: last few weeks, you'll be well aware of the massive
- 0:05Speaker 2: campaign being actioned across Australia to save the Black Reef,
- 0:09Speaker 2: with Pirate from the Black Reef being instrumental in uniting
- 0:12Speaker 2: the Australian music community as one to pledge financial assistance
- 0:15Speaker 2: in basically keeping the air.
- 0:17Speaker 1: In the lungs of the Black Reef.
- 0:19Speaker 2: I know you must be under the pump, brother, so
- 0:21Speaker 2: thanks for donating so much time for us.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Oh, man, it's my pleasure.
- 0:25Speaker 3: It's great to chat to you, bro, and I appreciate
- 0:27Speaker 3: you using your platform to help us get the word out.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Mate, anything to help, bro.
- 0:31Speaker 2: And we're actually on the home straight of a month-long campaign, bro,
- 0:34Speaker 2: that needed to raise $ 1 million to ensure the survival
- 0:37Speaker 2: of the black race. So I know you probably don't
- 0:39Speaker 2: want to give too much away, but are we getting closer?
- 0:44Speaker 1: We're sitting at $ 850, 000, man.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Only $ 150, 000 left.
- 0:45Speaker 3: And it's coming out of the wire like it's, what, 48.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Hours to go, basically.
- 0:53Speaker 3: And, yeah, man, it's fucking definitely keeping me on edge,
- 0:57Speaker 3: keeping me on my seat, edge of my seat. But
- 1:00Speaker 3: it's exciting. You know, it's kind of we've just done this.
- 1:03Speaker 3: We've gone as hard as we can. And it's kind
- 1:06Speaker 3: of just up to the fucking universe what happens now, man.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:09Speaker 1: Just excited to see how it will go.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Speaking of going as hard as you can, bro, like
- 1:15Speaker 2: I know from personal experience, some of this isn't an
- 1:18Speaker 2: easy thing, man. Like how much work's gone into, you know,
- 1:21Speaker 2: you see people, you're on your videos talking to people,
- 1:24Speaker 2: you know, everyone sees the happy side of it, but
- 1:27Speaker 2: there's so much goes on with some of this, isn't there?
- 1:31Speaker 1: Oh man, it's been a whole year of work on
- 1:33Speaker 1: this campaign.
- 1:34Speaker 3: So people will see the month and go, you know, wow,
- 1:37Speaker 3: that's pretty fucking incredible to raise a million bucks in
- 1:39Speaker 3: a month. but you could say we raised a million
- 1:42Speaker 3: bucks in a year, or you could say we've raised
- 1:43Speaker 3: a million bucks in fucking 15 years in one month,
- 1:46Speaker 3: you know, because it's like the last year we, you know,
- 1:49Speaker 3: we got that hard word just after blackened, you know,
- 1:52Speaker 3: it was like October last year from the real estate.
- 1:55Speaker 3: They gave us 30 days to vacate the premises, put
- 1:58Speaker 3: us all into a big state of fucking panic. And we,
- 2:01Speaker 3: you know, community meetings and fundraising. And we basically, um, yeah,
- 2:06Speaker 3: it came up with a, plan to allow us to
- 2:09Speaker 3: stay in here under the premise that we were going
- 2:12Speaker 3: to try to purchase it. And yeah, all year, man,
- 2:15Speaker 3: just had so many sleepless nights with just fucking numbers
- 2:17Speaker 3: running around in my head and thinking like.
- 2:20Speaker 1: How do you do this? How the hell do you
- 2:21Speaker 1: pull it off?
- 2:22Speaker 3: And obviously, you know, we saw the Tote campaign a
- 2:24Speaker 3: few years ago and that's where the inspiration came from. And,
- 2:27Speaker 3: you know, we put our own spin on it with
- 2:30Speaker 3: Black and, you know, like Black Reef is important to
- 2:33Speaker 3: our community.
- 2:33Speaker 1: You know, it's massive out here.
- 2:35Speaker 3: But for people all around Australia, they don't really know
- 2:38Speaker 3: what the venue is and why it's so important.
- 2:40Speaker 1: So we kind of.
- 2:40Speaker 3: Leveraged the festival, the platform of the festival that people
- 2:43Speaker 3: do know and care about and sort of said, you know,
- 2:47Speaker 3: this is why it's important. And, you know, you can buy,
- 2:49Speaker 3: you can support Lackin and you can buy tickets to
- 2:51Speaker 3: the next three events that we're going to roll out
- 2:53Speaker 3: over the next few years.
- 2:55Speaker 1: And, you know, it's all part of the same ecosystem.
- 2:58Speaker 3: And yeah, man, it's, it's, yeah, it's been a lot
- 3:00Speaker 3: like just this month, like I'm doing a lot of
- 3:02Speaker 3: this on my own.
- 3:03Speaker 1: I've got some support from some really close people.
- 3:06Speaker 3: But, yeah, I'm here 12 to 15 hours a fucking
- 3:08Speaker 3: day just melting into this fucking seat. It's not ideal.
- 3:12Speaker 3: It's not good for the fucking self-care, but that's not
- 3:15Speaker 3: the priority at the moment, you know. It's like a
- 3:17Speaker 3: year of work. I've got one month to execute it,
- 3:20Speaker 3: and I just, yeah, I'm just fucking giving it my all.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Fuck yeah, man.
- 3:24Speaker 2: Before we go any further, man, give us some more
- 3:27Speaker 2: insight into the Black Reef and why it is imperative
- 3:29Speaker 2: that this thing is saved. It's not just a case
- 3:32Speaker 2: of a music promoter falling on their own sword and
- 3:34Speaker 2: asking the public to help stop the bloodshed. The Black
- 3:37Speaker 2: Reef is a lot more than just that, isn't it?
- 3:40Speaker 1: Yeah, man.
- 3:41Speaker 3: It started 15 years ago. We started talking about it.
- 3:44Speaker 3: I played in bands growing up here and it never
- 3:47Speaker 3: went anywhere. There was other people that I saw playing
- 3:50Speaker 3: bands and You basically had two options. You could move
- 3:53Speaker 3: away to the city and try to take it, you know,
- 3:56Speaker 3: somewhere down that way. Or you could just fucking, you know,
- 3:59Speaker 3: walk into a fucking wall and go nowhere. And there
- 4:02Speaker 3: was another younger, you know, bunch of bands popping up
- 4:05Speaker 3: at the time. And I just moved back to town
- 4:07Speaker 3: after a few years away and just thought, you know,
- 4:09Speaker 3: there's fucking potential here.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Let's just do something. I spent my whole fucking life.
- 4:13Speaker 3: Jumping in the car, driving fucking 16 hours to go
- 4:16Speaker 3: to Soundwave in Adelaide, you know, jumping on a plane
- 4:18Speaker 3: to go to the fucking Big Day Out, you know,
- 4:20Speaker 3: multiple times a year to catch all the shows.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Spent so much money, so much travel time doing it.
- 4:26Speaker 3: And, you know, I thought, let's fucking flip the script
- 4:28Speaker 3: and see if we can make something here that makes
- 4:30Speaker 3: people travel. If we can bring the bands here that
- 4:33Speaker 3: we want to see as well, you know, and like
- 4:35Speaker 3: just lift the profile of local artists as well. And,
- 4:38Speaker 3: you know, back then, not many people knew about heavy
- 4:41Speaker 3: metal in Alice Springs and yeah it's been you know
- 4:44Speaker 3: a 15 year bloody journey of just pushing pushing it
- 4:47Speaker 3: uphill and just giving it our all to get to
- 4:49Speaker 3: this point and you know now we've got an incredible
- 4:51Speaker 3: festival that people all around australia know about and talk
- 4:54Speaker 3: about and want to be a part of it's always
- 4:56Speaker 3: the obstacle of getting here is the biggest fucking you
- 4:59Speaker 3: know biggest hindrance but it's also part of the fucking
- 5:02Speaker 3: epic fucking scale of it is that you know the
- 5:05Speaker 3: pilgrimage out here is so fucking cool as well.
- 5:09Speaker 4: And it's more than just a musical festival man like
- 5:12Speaker 4: it's uh it's the heart and soul and the lifeblood
- 5:15Speaker 4: of the central territory music scene the black race and
- 5:18Speaker 4: like so basically they've just decided to sell the property.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Out from underneath here and you've had to come up
- 5:22Speaker 2: with the money to have to keep the spiritual home base.
- 5:25Speaker 3: Alive yeah exactly like we we don't have a lease
- 5:29Speaker 3: you know after the last lease expired we weren't off
- 5:32Speaker 3: it you know we weren't able to renew it so
- 5:34Speaker 3: It left us.
- 5:35Speaker 1: In a pretty vulnerable situation.
- 5:37Speaker 3: And yeah, man, like this space, you know, over that year,
- 5:41Speaker 3: that decade of evolution of this space, you know, it
- 5:43Speaker 3: started out, it was just these metal bands and we
- 5:45Speaker 3: need somebody to jam and record and we want to
- 5:47Speaker 3: kind of bring it all.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Under one roof finally and stop working out of the backyard.
- 5:51Speaker 3: And we thought we could offer it to the town,
- 5:52Speaker 3: this thing that never existed here before, you know. And yeah,
- 5:57Speaker 3: that journey over 10 years, it's just got like so
- 6:00Speaker 3: many different dimensions, different people that come in and, and
- 6:03Speaker 3: and you know hire the space and put on their
- 6:05Speaker 3: own events and like i always just say to them
- 6:07Speaker 3: you know it's a blank canvas you just fucking go
- 6:09Speaker 3: in there and you fucking paint it how you want
- 6:12Speaker 3: you interpret it how you want you put your show
- 6:14Speaker 3: on there you know and it it supports everything from
- 6:16Speaker 3: the you know the the fucking metal nights to the
- 6:19Speaker 3: rock nights to the dmb nights to the pole community
- 6:23Speaker 3: putting shows on and like it's just.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Yeah you know and it's a rehearsal space that's happening.
- 6:27Speaker 3: And Bans driving in from communities hundreds of kilometres away
- 6:30Speaker 3: to use the facilities, you know, because they don't have
- 6:32Speaker 3: the gear back home and they might have a show
- 6:34Speaker 3: coming up. Yeah, it's crucial, man. It's infrastructure that is irreplaceable,
- 6:39Speaker 3: you know. It wasn't here before. Yeah, we're not going
- 6:42Speaker 3: to lose it.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Yeah, I know, brother.
- 6:44Speaker 2: Now, when we first broke back in March, I'm sure
- 6:47Speaker 2: you were inundated with messages of support and advice and
- 6:50Speaker 2: people willing to donate their own time and money to
- 6:52Speaker 2: help the cause. But I'm also imagining, like, it would
- 6:54Speaker 2: be as easy for you to just sort of say,
- 6:56Speaker 2: fuck it let's try to earn the money but as
- 6:59Speaker 2: much as we all sort of need and love money
- 7:01Speaker 2: it doesn't necessarily mean you're comfortable asking other people to
- 7:04Speaker 2: help you out so.
- 7:05Speaker 1: Was that a was that a bit of a stumbling
- 7:07Speaker 1: block for you initially.
- 7:09Speaker 3: Yeah it really was man it's always been a thing
- 7:11Speaker 3: for me you know i run a festival and a
- 7:13Speaker 3: festival is like a community effort you really need a
- 7:16Speaker 3: community it's it's you know the sum of its parts
- 7:19Speaker 3: it's greater than that like it's You know? But I
- 7:23Speaker 3: just had to overcome my own fucking inhibitions with all
- 7:25Speaker 3: that stuff. And for a campaign like this, when the
- 7:28Speaker 3: stakes are so high, like, I just don't have a
- 7:31Speaker 3: choice but to lean into uncomfortable territory and just do
- 7:34Speaker 3: things that I don't really want to do. Like, I
- 7:36Speaker 3: never wanted to be fucking the guy fucking making reels
- 7:39Speaker 3: and trying to hype up the fucking country. Like, I
- 7:42Speaker 3: got told, I got told, if you don't do it,
- 7:44Speaker 3: you're not going to get through this campaign.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Like, yeah. And, you know, like, all these, like.
- 7:50Speaker 3: I say, back in March when it went public, the
- 7:53Speaker 3: news for the first time, yeah, there was a lot
- 7:54Speaker 3: of bands reaching out saying, hey, we want to do
- 7:57Speaker 3: a local fundraiser for you. Let us fucking, let us
- 7:59Speaker 3: put something on locally and that's kind of what spawned
- 8:01Speaker 3: the idea originally of this Black and Forever show that's
- 8:04Speaker 3: coming up on Saturday. You know, at the time we
- 8:06Speaker 3: were kind of like, fuck, this is going to go
- 8:08Speaker 3: live next week and we're going to fucking have the
- 8:10Speaker 3: crowd fun.
- 8:11Speaker 1: I didn't know what was in it. I've never done
- 8:13Speaker 1: it before and it took, You know, those.
- 8:15Speaker 3: Months were so necessary because so many other pieces fell
- 8:18Speaker 3: into place across that time. And, you know, the timing
- 8:22Speaker 3: just made sense finally, you know, like with all the
- 8:26Speaker 3: support from the artists, with the, you know, with like
- 8:28Speaker 3: Earthless and their management coming on and saying, yeah, you
- 8:31Speaker 3: can put Uluru Rock live at Uluru on a vinyl and,
- 8:34Speaker 3: you know, all these other things that just like, yeah,
- 8:37Speaker 3: were really like crucial parts of the big picture.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, man. You've got to.
- 8:46Speaker 3: You've just got to fucking do what needs to be
- 8:47Speaker 3: done sometimes and put your fucking hesitations aside.
- 8:51Speaker 4: Yeah, damn straight, man.
- 8:53Speaker 2: The response so far has been nothing short of amazing
- 8:56Speaker 2: from across the board, mate. Like, of course, you've got
- 8:58Speaker 2: the music publications and outlets getting behind you. But even
- 9:01Speaker 2: that support from mainstream media, including Channel 7, mate, like,
- 9:04Speaker 2: it must have been humbling to know that there's so
- 9:06Speaker 2: many people out there who support you and what you're doing.
- 9:11Speaker 3: I got such a kick out of them saying death
- 9:13Speaker 3: metal on the bloody mainstream.
- 9:15Speaker 1: I bet you did. What was their bloody intro line?
- 9:22Speaker 1: The dead center of Australia is the beating heart of
- 9:25Speaker 1: death metal. I was like, yeah, we should steal that
- 9:27Speaker 1: and put it on a shirt.
- 9:30Speaker 3: I'm pretty sure it was that journalist that came out
- 9:32Speaker 3: here that wrote all those words and hats off to her.
- 9:35Speaker 1: She was cool. Um, nah, but it was epically timed, man.
- 9:38Speaker 1: That was really fortuitous as well. They happened to be
- 9:41Speaker 1: in town at the time.
- 9:42Speaker 3: You know, fucking we reached out to them. They came
- 9:46Speaker 3: around that night. You know, it got the word out
- 9:49Speaker 3: far and wide. It's just, yeah, it was really, really
- 9:53Speaker 3: fucking lucky, really.
- 9:55Speaker 4: Yeah, man.
- 9:56Speaker 2: What it also shows too is the overall love and
- 9:59Speaker 2: support for and within the music community in this country
- 10:02Speaker 2: mate like it's great to see so many people from
- 10:04Speaker 2: all walks of life coming together with a common goal
- 10:06Speaker 2: like something like that can only benefit the australian music
- 10:09Speaker 2: scene as.
- 10:09Speaker 1: A whole moving forward.
- 10:12Speaker 3: Absolutely man like that's something that's just you know it
- 10:17Speaker 3: I'm speechless about it. Like, it's just this feeling of, like,
- 10:20Speaker 3: real community, this entire network. Like, we're so isolated out
- 10:24Speaker 3: here in the middle of Australia. We have a tiny community,
- 10:26Speaker 3: you know, and sometimes it feels that way and we feel, like,
- 10:29Speaker 3: so disconnected from the rest of Australia, you know. I
- 10:31Speaker 3: get to have all these epic fucking friendships with people
- 10:34Speaker 3: because of the festival and because of, you know, music,
- 10:37Speaker 3: you know.
- 10:37Speaker 1: It's really, you know, I've met some of my favourite
- 10:40Speaker 1: people through it.
- 10:41Speaker 3: But this moment, like, in time, this last month, like,
- 10:46Speaker 3: It's gone from, you know, the friends that I know
- 10:48Speaker 3: and the music industry to like just all walks of life.
- 10:52Speaker 3: You know, it's like people that just are passionate about
- 10:56Speaker 3: live music, people that are passionate about the arts, people
- 10:59Speaker 3: that care about, you know, remote Australia and creating opportunities.
- 11:03Speaker 1: And like, yeah, man, like the last week we've.
- 11:06Speaker 3: Been having some big conversations within the music industry. You know,
- 11:10Speaker 3: like a lot came out of Big Sound last week
- 11:12Speaker 3: where there was quite a bit of discussion around it.
- 11:16Speaker 1: And yeah, that's led into like.
- 11:19Speaker 3: A whole nother level of support at a really high
- 11:21Speaker 3: level of the industry where they've been just fucking workshopping
- 11:25Speaker 3: with me. And actually tomorrow, Thursday, you know, the final
- 11:29Speaker 3: fucking Black Thursday push, there's going to be a bit
- 11:33Speaker 3: of a campaign going out from industry as well, just
- 11:35Speaker 3: to get it in front of as many people as
- 11:36Speaker 3: possible and try to generate a bit wider support again.
- 11:40Speaker 1: So yeah, it's extremely humbling. It's like, Yeah. It's, it's,
- 11:45Speaker 1: it's absolutely like, it's surreal. It's a trip to be
- 11:48Speaker 1: sitting on this side of it. You know, I haven't
- 11:50Speaker 1: got heaps of time to sit there and reflect on it.
- 11:52Speaker 3: I'm just kind of still working and, you know, but like, yeah,
- 11:55Speaker 3: I get those moments where I'm like, well, this is
- 11:58Speaker 3: pretty trippy.
- 12:02Speaker 2: We're down to the wire now, though, bro. It all
- 12:05Speaker 2: comes down pretty much to the final day of the
- 12:07Speaker 2: campaign this Saturday, September 12th, when over 30 bands from
- 12:10Speaker 2: around Australia play over six states and venues for what's
- 12:13Speaker 2: being dubbed Black and Forever, the nationwide festival. Win, lose
- 12:17Speaker 2: or draw, and I hope we win, but win, lose
- 12:19Speaker 2: or draw, it's a fitting way to sum up what's
- 12:22Speaker 2: happened for the last month.
- 12:24Speaker 3: Yeah, man, it's just got to be such a vibe.
- 12:26Speaker 3: You know, all these bands... There's literally hundreds of artists now, like,
- 12:30Speaker 3: you know, 40 something bands on the bloody, you know,
- 12:34Speaker 3: Friday and the Saturday, you know, the totes jumped on
- 12:36Speaker 3: for the, for the pretty black and Eve party as well. Um,
- 12:41Speaker 3: and you know, and so many hundreds of people all
- 12:44Speaker 3: around the country coming out.
- 12:45Speaker 1: To support it. Um, I think we're going to do
- 12:47Speaker 1: a live stream as well from central Australia.
- 12:50Speaker 3: So we're going to stream that into the other venues
- 12:52Speaker 3: and feel a little bit more connected that way, you know,
- 12:54Speaker 3: and we'll probably be announcing, you know, live updates of
- 12:57Speaker 3: how the bloody tally's going, if.
- 12:58Speaker 1: We're going to get there or not.
- 13:00Speaker 3: And yeah, and other people around Australia that aren't able
- 13:03Speaker 3: to make it to those shows or anywhere else can
- 13:05Speaker 3: probably tune into that stream as well.
- 13:06Speaker 1: And it's exciting, man.
- 13:09Speaker 3: I think it's going to be a massive vibe because
- 13:10Speaker 3: I do feel like we're going to get there. I
- 13:12Speaker 3: just feel like there's too much goodwill, too much support,
- 13:15Speaker 3: too much intention behind this, you know, and like, You know, communally,
- 13:21Speaker 3: it is good for everybody. We want this to succeed.
- 13:24Speaker 3: We want to continue to deliver, you know, what we
- 13:27Speaker 3: do out here in the desert. And we want the
- 13:28Speaker 3: rest of the country to.
- 13:29Speaker 1: Be a part of it.
- 13:30Speaker 3: You know, we're a part of a big fucking national ecosystem,
- 13:33Speaker 3: you know, a big fucking network of, you know, of
- 13:35Speaker 3: awesome creative community doing good shit.
- 13:38Speaker 1: And yeah, it's got to continue.
- 13:40Speaker 2: How are you, man? I was going to name all
- 13:42Speaker 2: the bands playing on Saturday night, but to be honest
- 13:44Speaker 2: with you, there was too many to fucking write down,
- 13:46Speaker 2: but you've got, the shows are going to be in Sydney,
- 13:49Speaker 2: you've got Metro Social, you've got Melbourne at Singing Bird Studios,
- 13:53Speaker 2: you've got Adelaide at the Ed Castle Hotel, Black Wreath
- 13:56Speaker 2: is doing their own one, West Australia's.
- 13:58Speaker 1: Got, what's that place called?
- 14:01Speaker 2: Linus Lounge, Moe's at the Clubhouse at the Gold Coast,
- 14:05Speaker 2: it's represented, there's some of the best bands full stop
- 14:08Speaker 2: in the country playing at these guys, man, like, Well,
- 14:11Speaker 2: I know we've said it before, but it's just so
- 14:14Speaker 2: fucking good. All these bands, too, it's important to note
- 14:16Speaker 2: that they've all gone on a wage for the night
- 14:18Speaker 2: so that everything goes into the coffer to try and
- 14:21Speaker 2: help the black race.
- 14:22Speaker 1: So it's just good to see, man. It fucking warms
- 14:25Speaker 1: your black.
- 14:25Speaker 2: Heart, doesn't it?
- 14:27Speaker 1: Yeah, 100%, man. Like, yeah, it's mind-blowing, you know. Some
- 14:32Speaker 1: of these bands I've never met.
- 14:33Speaker 3: Some of them are old, you know, mates now that
- 14:35Speaker 3: have played out here and, you know, we've played shows
- 14:37Speaker 3: together here and there or whatever.
- 14:39Speaker 1: But, yeah, man, it's just... The level of support's unreal.
- 14:42Speaker 3: The community and, you know, the camaraderie in this country
- 14:45Speaker 3: is just like fucking so fucking next level. It's just, yeah,
- 14:50Speaker 3: it's very special to be a part of that and
- 14:52Speaker 3: just to feel that. And yeah, man, just I'm so
- 14:56Speaker 3: fucking humbled and so fucking proud of what we've achieved communally.
- 15:01Speaker 3: So fucking stoked to see that, you know, It's going
- 15:04Speaker 3: to go down on Saturday, win or lose, you know,
- 15:06Speaker 3: and fucking, yeah.
- 15:08Speaker 1: I wish I could be at every single show.
- 15:09Speaker 2: I was just about to say, man, like you must
- 15:11Speaker 2: be feeling bad because everyone wanted you at their show
- 15:14Speaker 2: and there's only one of you.
- 15:15Speaker 3: Yeah, well, the live stream will be like fucking holographic
- 15:21Speaker 3: kind of clones, you know.
- 15:22Speaker 1: That's the best we can do.
- 15:25Speaker 3: Yeah, it is.
- 15:26Speaker 2: And then tickets for those events too and full lineups
- 15:28Speaker 2: can be found via ChinaURL.com backslash BlackenedForever and people can
- 15:34Speaker 2: get the tickets on the door too, can they, if
- 15:36Speaker 2: there's any left?
- 15:38Speaker 1: Yeah, for sure.
- 15:38Speaker 3: If it hasn't sold out, go down and try to
- 15:40Speaker 3: pick up your tickets on the door. They have been
- 15:42Speaker 3: moving fast, especially in the last week. You know, but yeah,
- 15:46Speaker 3: we want to see everyone there.
- 15:47Speaker 1: So don't snooze on it. Come down. It's going to
- 15:49Speaker 1: be the sickest vibe. It's going to be so big,
- 15:52Speaker 1: you know, and yeah. Let's just all get down there
- 15:56Speaker 1: and send it. Head back for a good cause.
- 15:59Speaker 2: Fuck yeah. And, of course, mate, lines are still open
- 16:01Speaker 2: to pledge money. But you don't just have to donate
- 16:04Speaker 2: money to the cause for this. Like, you've also got
- 16:05Speaker 2: a host of goodies to purchase from T-shirts to upcoming
- 16:08Speaker 2: gig tickets to lifetime memberships. So the black race isn't
- 16:11Speaker 2: just asking people to give them money. You're giving something
- 16:15Speaker 2: back in a lot of cases too.
- 16:16Speaker 1: So it's even better like that, you know. Yeah, 100%, man.
- 16:21Speaker 1: We're here to create. That's what we want to do.
- 16:24Speaker 1: We want to create experiences.
- 16:26Speaker 3: We want to create cool, you know, memories and things
- 16:30Speaker 3: that people can hold on to and appreciate. And, you know, like, yeah,
- 16:34Speaker 3: it's so great to work with artists that want to
- 16:37Speaker 3: do that, like the Earthless guys and all the bands
- 16:39Speaker 3: that have jumped on the live Blackened album and, you know,
- 16:42Speaker 3: the T-shirt designers and stuff.
- 16:44Speaker 1: And, like, you know, we've got a fucking three– a
- 16:48Speaker 1: trilogy of black and open air festivals to roll out
- 16:50Speaker 1: over the next few years.
- 16:51Speaker 3: And that's so exciting to take it into new territory
- 16:54Speaker 3: as well and new terrain. And like, yeah, man, like we,
- 16:57Speaker 3: we just want to give back.
- 16:58Speaker 1: That's how this all works. It's a, it's a transfer
- 17:00Speaker 1: of energy.
- 17:01Speaker 3: It's like, you know, we can't do this without the
- 17:03Speaker 3: support that we get. We can't, you know, black and
- 17:05Speaker 3: can't keep growing like it has to, to get to
- 17:08Speaker 3: this point without the people that come that support it,
- 17:11Speaker 3: you know, and everything that we do just goes back
- 17:13Speaker 3: into it. And so we're just, Communally building this, communally
- 17:16Speaker 3: manifesting something fucking awesome for the country.
- 17:19Speaker 1: Yeah, man.
- 17:20Speaker 2: As you say, man, like, there are other events based
- 17:22Speaker 2: around the Black Raid plan for the future, but for now,
- 17:25Speaker 2: I think it's important to focus on the task at
- 17:27Speaker 2: hand with the grim reality that if we can't get
- 17:29Speaker 2: the thermometer line out of the red zone by midnight
- 17:31Speaker 2: on Saturday, then the harsh reality is we're fucked. So
- 17:35Speaker 2: I've got a feeling, though, that the people of Australia
- 17:38Speaker 2: are going to get behind this and support it to
- 17:39Speaker 2: the end, bro, but congratulations so far on a great effort, man,
- 17:42Speaker 2: and congratulations on bringing the community together for a good
- 17:45Speaker 2: cause too, man.
- 17:46Speaker 1: Like, you're a good bloke, bro. Yes. Cheers, brother. Back
- 17:50Speaker 1: at you, man.
- 17:51Speaker 3: You do amazing work and you've given us a lot
- 17:53Speaker 3: of support over the years and I really appreciate it, man.
- 17:55Speaker 1: And yeah, let's go get them. Save the Black Reef.
