- 0:22Speaker 1: I am joined as I am in every episode by

- 0:33Speaker 2: So I'm in Hello hot chat. How are we doing, brother, dude?
- 0:39Speaker 1: We are heading into it. We are like days away
- 0:44Speaker 1: as this podcast is listened to, because we're recording a
- 0:48Speaker 1: little bit early, pulling back the curtain to accommodate my vacation.
- 0:53Speaker 1: You don't take vacation. I take vacation.
- 0:56Speaker 2: No, my whole life's vacation, Chod. I'm literally living the dream.
- 1:00Speaker 1: You are living the dream. You've been in a why
- 1:02Speaker 1: you'll come back home. You'll just bet your face off
- 1:05Speaker 1: until it's time to go to some other exotic location.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Pretty much. I know. If anyone can make it work,
- 1:10Speaker 2: if you can become a multi millionaire in your thirties
- 1:13Speaker 2: and be single and no wife or kids, Chad, the
- 1:15Speaker 2: hype is real. It is truly the life.
- 1:19Speaker 1: You know what though, If you can be in your
- 1:21Speaker 1: fifties and live in the middle of Connecticut, and your
- 1:23Speaker 1: kids are generally out of the house. All the better
- 1:26Speaker 1: then you. By the way, I'm not going to die alone.
- 1:30Speaker 1: That's the difference.
- 1:33Speaker 2: We'll see, we'll see.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Oh my god, we're getting laughter from our friend, our
- 1:38Speaker 1: former colleague, one of our favorite people, a nemesis of mine,
- 1:42Speaker 1: Matthew Friedman. He's going to come on the podcast in
- 1:46Speaker 1: one second. We got a huge, huge show, a huge
- 1:49Speaker 1: football show. We're going to bring Freeman in. We love
- 1:51Speaker 1: bringing him in as reminder of the Favorites. Podcast is

- 2:27Speaker 1: text one eight hundred Gambler Matthew Friedman, formerly of the
- 2:33Speaker 1: Action Network, formerly of Fantasy Pros. He's got a new job.
- 2:39Speaker 1: He's the Brandon Cooks of the Fantasy Space of Folks.
- 2:42Speaker 1: Wherever he goes, it doesn't matter, he puts up numbers.
- 2:45Speaker 1: I'm not telling you what the new job is because
- 2:47Speaker 1: by the time of his airs it will just have
- 2:49Speaker 1: been announced. But we do have live listeners on AMP,
- 2:53Speaker 1: so we don't want to reveal it yet. Friedman, I'm
- 2:56Speaker 1: just glad when you're on. I'm glad no matter where
- 2:58Speaker 1: you're working you can decide to give us a little
- 3:00Speaker 1: bit of time.
- 3:01Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:01Speaker 4: Always, I will always don the old Fantasy Labs hat.
- 3:05Speaker 4: And it's right to come back on the show. And
- 3:07Speaker 4: by the way, you know, this could have been a
- 3:11Speaker 4: really boring show, like we could have been talking about
- 3:13Speaker 4: some really low level stuff. But you know, thanks for
- 3:16Speaker 4: having me on for the mail Bag such an important episode,
- 3:20Speaker 4: So thanks for having me Simon.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Do you sense the sarcasm in Friedman's voice?
- 3:28Speaker 2: Mail Bag is the best you get to learn a
- 3:30Speaker 2: little bit about your own yourself when you do a
- 3:31Speaker 2: mail back questions, Right, Chad.
- 3:33Speaker 1: I love the mail back questions that we got. These
- 3:35Speaker 1: are actually I was looking at these this morning. Great
- 3:39Speaker 1: job by Matt Mitchell. By the way, Matt Mitchell, kudos.
- 3:42Speaker 1: He did some extra special producing. He was sending us
- 3:46Speaker 1: mail back questions last night. He was sending us notes
- 3:49Speaker 1: for the other podcast or recording so I could be
- 3:52Speaker 1: on vacation. The guy was doing his job, and I
- 3:54Speaker 1: know he's doing a lot of other stuff. He's got
- 3:57Speaker 1: a lot of jobs.
- 3:58Speaker 2: My favorite, my favorite fair line from him is it's
- 4:01Speaker 2: always better when one of you guys are prepared for
- 4:03Speaker 2: the show. So if one of you could go over
- 4:04Speaker 2: the questions beforehand, and thankfully Chad did go over the
- 4:08Speaker 2: questions beforehand.
- 4:10Speaker 1: His expectations are so so that if we can get
- 4:14Speaker 1: one person it is the mail bag episode, Freeman, I
- 4:18Speaker 1: would I would look at it as there's almost no
- 4:21Speaker 1: one who could play in this space other than you
- 4:23Speaker 1: because of how much you hate Simon and I and
- 4:27Speaker 1: also your history with the Action Network and Fantasy Lab.
- 4:31Speaker 1: So I'm going to fire away. Here we go. Are
- 4:35Speaker 1: you ready for the first question? Did Simon? Simon didn't
- 4:39Speaker 1: even answer this question in the script. What is something
- 4:42Speaker 1: you bet on during the summer that you have zero
- 4:44Speaker 1: interest in the rest of the year. Freeman.
- 4:48Speaker 4: You can go first, Yeah, basically every sport that's not football,
- 4:52Speaker 4: but specifically NHL, and I do player props. I don't
- 4:57Speaker 4: follow the NHL. I cann't tell you a single name
- 5:00Speaker 4: of a person in the NHL. But I have a
- 5:03Speaker 4: model that's actually been pretty good at projecting how these
- 5:05Speaker 4: guys will do. And so whenever March madisons and then
- 5:09Speaker 4: you know, you got the NFL Draft and NFL Draft ins,
- 5:12Speaker 4: I'm looking to the next thing. What can I bet.
- 5:14Speaker 4: I'll bet some NHL player props. It's ridiculous, but it's profitable,
- 5:19Speaker 4: and then you know, the Stanley Cup finals end, and
- 5:22Speaker 4: then I have nothing until football.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Why do you have a model for NHL player props
- 5:28Speaker 1: if you don't even follow the NHL.
- 5:30Speaker 4: So a few years ago I created the model for
- 5:34Speaker 4: March Madness player props, and once March Madness ended, I
- 5:38Speaker 4: realized that I could actually pretty quickly repurpose that into
- 5:42Speaker 4: hockey projections, and so I kind of did that on
- 5:45Speaker 4: the fly and it ended up being successful.
- 5:49Speaker 1: Hold on, hold on, why, like, why did that work?
- 5:54Speaker 1: What is in the model without giving it away? Sure
- 5:57Speaker 1: that makes it possible to do that in.
- 6:00Speaker 4: The grand scheme of things. It's about just projecting the
- 6:02Speaker 4: number of minutes someone is going to be out there playing.
- 6:06Speaker 4: And so you know, if you have five basketball players
- 6:09Speaker 4: on the court, you're projecting two hundred minutes. If you
- 6:12Speaker 4: have you know, six skaters out there, or five skaters
- 6:15Speaker 4: and then a goalie, you're projecting a certain number of minutes.
- 6:19Speaker 4: And so you just you know, kind of make sure
- 6:21Speaker 4: that you're projecting reasonable amounts of minutes. And then once
- 6:24Speaker 4: you do that, it's pretty easy to project everything else
- 6:26Speaker 4: because it's all just based on the number of goals,
- 6:29Speaker 4: the number of assists, everything like that that a guy
- 6:31Speaker 4: scores on a per minute basis.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Why would you even be comfortable putting money against that?
- 6:36Speaker 1: How long did it take you to figure out that
- 6:38Speaker 1: that actually worked?
- 6:40Speaker 4: A couple of days. I mean it's really just changing. Yeah,
- 6:44Speaker 4: it's really just changing the model, reorienting it, you know,
- 6:48Speaker 4: making sure that I'm projecting reasonable enough top line numbers
- 6:52Speaker 4: and then dividing that out amongst all the players. But
- 6:55Speaker 4: it really didn't take that long because I already had
- 6:58Speaker 4: the bones of it, the infrastructure, but already set up
- 7:01Speaker 4: to do March Madness.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Simon, what do you think of that?
- 7:07Speaker 2: My man? Loves the gamble. He's a true gambler. He
- 7:10Speaker 2: just literally was like, you know what, I could take
- 7:11Speaker 2: some time off here, but no, I'm going to start
- 7:13Speaker 2: diving into NHL. So he's got my support. I love it.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Would you tail him based on what he just said?
- 7:19Speaker 2: Hell no, maybe in a couple of years, maybe after
- 7:24Speaker 2: two or three years of running the model? No, no, no.
- 7:26Speaker 4: No, these picks have been successful and they're in the
- 7:29Speaker 4: Action app.
- 7:30Speaker 2: There you go.
- 7:31Speaker 1: Freeman is a prolific pick tracker. Freeman might have one
- 7:37Speaker 1: of the highest followings of anybody in the Action Network
- 7:41Speaker 1: app in terms of total people following him and his
- 7:43Speaker 1: picks in the app. He's actually very good at it.
- 7:46Speaker 4: It's over one hundred thousand. And by the way, you
- 7:48Speaker 4: guys need to give me my expert status back. I'm
- 7:51Speaker 4: gonna peel back the curtains. Give me that expert status
- 7:53Speaker 4: back so I will be incentivized to make more picks
- 7:56Speaker 4: in the app.
- 7:56Speaker 1: You know who you know who can do that, Matt Mitchell.
- 8:00Speaker 3: Consider it about it right now.
- 8:02Speaker 1: Yeah, I've tried doing it for people.
- 8:03Speaker 3: I'll take Yeah, I'll take chance away and we'll give
- 8:05Speaker 3: it to you. No problem.
- 8:06Speaker 2: IM get a pro pro subscription. While we're giving these
- 8:09Speaker 2: things out at my pro subscription ran out, all right.
- 8:11Speaker 3: I'll be one nineteen ninety nine. Thanks man.
- 8:14Speaker 1: Matt Mitchell will take care of the pro scripscription. Matt
- 8:17Speaker 1: Mitchell will take the take care of Matt Freeman's UH
- 8:20Speaker 1: expert status in the Action Network ap uh. Simon, what
- 8:24Speaker 1: is the one sport that you will bet during the summer.
- 8:28Speaker 2: It's probably gonna shock you chat it's actually the NBA.
- 8:30Speaker 2: I'll do NBA playoffs, I'll do the finals, I'll do
- 8:32Speaker 2: the draft, and then I'll do futures, and then I
- 8:34Speaker 2: will not look at NBA, no joke and talk after
- 8:36Speaker 2: March Madness. It's just it's a sport I do enjoy,
- 8:40Speaker 2: but I just don't really care about it for the
- 8:42Speaker 2: betting perspective until I'm after I'm done football. I'll take
- 8:45Speaker 2: a little break, I'll do March Madness, and then I'll
- 8:48Speaker 2: slowly ease my way into the NBA. So NBA is
- 8:50Speaker 2: definitely that sport where I get really invested into it,
- 8:53Speaker 2: really interested in it, like love, talking about it for
- 8:56Speaker 2: a couple of months, and then by by July, it's
- 8:58Speaker 2: just as if it never happened. It's like, I'm totally
- 9:00Speaker 2: into football, don't think about NBA until late April. So
- 9:05Speaker 2: it's definitely a weird sport of me where it's like
- 9:06Speaker 2: I really care about the NBA from April till June,
- 9:09Speaker 2: and then I just don't don't really care about at all.
- 9:12Speaker 1: I do love your NBA fandom. It's really fun.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Yeah, it's definitely one of the weirder things about me.
- 9:21Speaker 1: Mine would be golf. I don't think about golf, don't
- 9:25Speaker 1: watch golf, don't play golf except during the summer. And
- 9:32Speaker 1: it's not even because all of a sudden I want
- 9:33Speaker 1: to start watching golf. It's for two reasons. One I've
- 9:37Speaker 1: mentioned on the podcast before my buddy Josh, who is
- 9:39Speaker 1: a rabid golf better and I mean even this week,
- 9:45Speaker 1: he is like doing chicken scratching on legal pads in
- 9:49Speaker 1: his state, tracking the odds for every book and looking
- 9:54Speaker 1: for the advantages. Who's undervalued. He's got very specific theories
- 9:58Speaker 1: about form, about play on courses, about betting the top
- 10:02Speaker 1: of the board and not betting the top of the board.
- 10:05Speaker 1: And the guy has been on a streak like it's
- 10:07Speaker 1: unbelievable how well he has performed. I love following him.
- 10:13Speaker 1: So that's number one and number two the Major's pool
- 10:15Speaker 1: I do. I've mentioned this on the show. I've got
- 10:17Speaker 1: this Major's pool with some other Action Network ogs and
- 10:23Speaker 1: they are all avid golfers, avid golf followers, avid golf betters,
- 10:27Speaker 1: avid golf watchers. I have won, nobody won, Nobody had
- 10:31Speaker 1: Wyndam Clark except for Matt Mitchell, who should tell that
- 10:34Speaker 1: story and this past major. But prior to that, I've
- 10:39Speaker 1: won for the past six major pools that we've done.
- 10:43Speaker 1: Matt Mitchell, do you want to come out and tell
- 10:44Speaker 1: your Windom Clark story really fast?
- 10:47Speaker 3: Sure, I'd be having to. I try to get the
- 10:48Speaker 3: neighborhood involved. We've mentioned on the show before that when
- 10:51Speaker 3: the Bills win a playoff game, the whole block gets
- 10:53Speaker 3: everyone gets a pint of Ben and Jerry's out their choosing.
- 10:57Speaker 3: So I've gotten everyone to be Packer's first bill snack.
- 11:00Speaker 3: And now with big gambling windfalls, which happened typically outside
- 11:04Speaker 3: of football season, when I have no opinions, I will
- 11:07Speaker 3: let the stakes be known that if it's particularly large,
- 11:09Speaker 3: something happens, I'll have a blah bah blah a block party.
- 11:12Speaker 3: I'll have everybody over to the yard for dinner. The
- 11:16Speaker 3: latest one was Wyndom Clark. If Wyndom Clark wins the
- 11:20Speaker 3: US Open, I'll have everybody over. And then I stopped
- 11:23Speaker 3: paying attention because I hate betting on golf and I
- 11:26Speaker 3: would never watch it for any reason. Despite being a degenerate.
- 11:30Speaker 3: He's in the lead, maintaining the lead. Everyone's at his heels.
- 11:33Speaker 3: It's Father's Day and now everyone's hanging out their windows
- 11:38Speaker 3: on my block shouting at me, Hey, you should turn
- 11:40Speaker 3: it on, which I refused. Everyone comes over to my
- 11:43Speaker 3: yard to drink because the next day was Juneteenth, so
- 11:45Speaker 3: everyone's off and we're sitting around a big fire. I
- 11:49Speaker 3: said I'll watch one hole, and I watched the final hole.
- 11:53Speaker 3: He wins that everyone starts hooting and hollering, and the
- 11:56Speaker 3: next Saturday we had a big block party. I tweeted
- 11:59Speaker 3: Wyndham a video, to which you responded, congratulations, he loves tacos.
- 12:03Speaker 3: So uh. Windomania US opened twenty twenty three was a
- 12:07Speaker 3: big success and I look forward to doing it again
- 12:09Speaker 3: next year.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Not only that one woman at the party who was
- 12:14Speaker 1: basically nine and a half months pregnant, you made her
- 12:17Speaker 1: laugh so hard that your wife predicted that she was
- 12:21Speaker 1: going to laugh that baby right out, and sure enough
- 12:24Speaker 1: that night had the baby.
- 12:26Speaker 3: Yes, she produced that healthy baby boy got out to
- 12:30Speaker 3: Griffin Daily. Probably are our newest and youngest listener. Wyndham
- 12:35Speaker 3: was a second choice. He didn't quite jump to the
- 12:38Speaker 3: naming list, but yeah, we wish her all the best
- 12:41Speaker 3: as well.
- 12:41Speaker 2: Congratulating you. Definitely, you definitely should add that to your bio,
- 12:43Speaker 2: Matt Mitchell. I'll make you laugh so hard you'll have
- 12:45Speaker 2: a baby.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Oh my god, that is so funny.
- 12:49Speaker 2: It's more of a threat a threat. Not many people
- 12:51Speaker 2: can say that. I definitely can't say that's right and tried.
- 12:54Speaker 3: If I can actually take up one more minute of
- 12:56Speaker 3: everyone's time, I want to do our next ad read.
- 12:59Speaker 3: You guys don't even know about this yet, but we
- 13:01Speaker 3: are now sponsored by Factor, America's number one ready to
- 13:05Speaker 3: eat meal kit. And you may ask yourself, well, why
- 13:07Speaker 3: would I do that? Ed Read It's because my wife
- 13:11Speaker 3: and I have been using Factor in real life for
- 13:13Speaker 3: almost a full year and we love it, so I
- 13:17Speaker 3: asked if I could do this one because we are
- 13:20Speaker 3: huge fans. My wife and I have this second kid
- 13:23Speaker 3: three years ago and we're like Okay, we no longer
- 13:26Speaker 3: have time with two little kids to like make a
- 13:28Speaker 3: coherent dinner for ourselves anymore. And so we tried all
- 13:31Speaker 3: of the meal plans and meal kits. We did Blue Apron,
- 13:34Speaker 3: and we did Hello Fresh and like. They were fine,
- 13:36Speaker 3: but we were still making dinner, so we didn't like that.
- 13:39Speaker 3: We did things like Splendid Spoon, but they were frozen,
- 13:42Speaker 3: so they weren't always as good. And then we discovered Factor.
- 13:45Speaker 3: And what's different about Factor is they're ready to eat.
- 13:48Speaker 3: There in like little trays. You poke calls in them,
- 13:52Speaker 3: two minutes in the microwave, and they're ready to go.
- 13:55Speaker 3: I couldn't believe how these things tasted, so we've never
- 13:58Speaker 3: looked back. I get stuff like three being chili, you're
- 14:01Speaker 3: like a shredded chicken taco bowl. I eat like an
- 14:05Speaker 3: absolute savage, and it said, I hate this and I'm full.
- 14:08Speaker 3: I just took two minutes and I eat like a
- 14:10Speaker 3: restaurant meal. In my house. We love it. We can
- 14:13Speaker 3: come to my house anytime and see a box of
- 14:16Speaker 3: Factor meals in my refrigerator. I don't think I've ever
- 14:19Speaker 3: had one I didn't love, which is a crazy thing
- 14:22Speaker 3: to say. We were just looking for meals to help
- 14:25Speaker 3: us avoid making worse choices when we're trying to work
- 14:28Speaker 3: all day, you know, corraling degenerates like Simon Hunter. So
- 14:32Speaker 3: you can head to factormeals dot com slash favorites fifty
- 14:37Speaker 3: and use code favorites fifty to get fifty percent off.
- 14:41Speaker 3: That's favorites fifty at factor meals dot com slash factors
- 14:45Speaker 3: fifty to get half off. Now again, highly recommend it.
- 14:51Speaker 3: You won't be disappointed.
- 14:52Speaker 1: I love it unconditionally like I love Matt Mitchell. Self
- 14:56Speaker 1: love is not selfish. All right, next question continue with
- 15:00Speaker 1: the theme Freeman and Chad put answers into the script.
- 15:03Speaker 1: Simon did not seems like a lot of sharp folks,
- 15:05Speaker 1: including you guys, are high on the Chicago Bears this season.
- 15:09Speaker 1: It makes sense, But is there another team you were
- 15:11Speaker 1: hearing a lot of positives about for twenty twenty three
- 15:14Speaker 1: that you disagree with. I'll go first, Chad jay E Ts, Jets, Jets, Jets,
- 15:21Speaker 1: fade in the Jets, can't wait to fade the Jets off?
- 15:24Speaker 1: The Aaron Rodgers bandwagon not even in my list of
- 15:27Speaker 1: top ten QBS. Preview of the next podcast for next
- 15:30Speaker 1: week Jets, Jets, Jets, Friedman.
- 15:36Speaker 4: Maybe the Broncos, and it's not as if there were
- 15:38Speaker 4: a lot of people talking about them, but like they're
- 15:41Speaker 4: getting enough like positive buzz of like, oh, they finally
- 15:44Speaker 4: have a competent coach there, and Russell Wilson can't be
- 15:47Speaker 4: as bad as he was last year, you know, not
- 15:51Speaker 4: to spoil what we're going to talk about later, but
- 15:53Speaker 4: maybe he can be as bad as he was last year.
- 15:55Speaker 4: I just I don't think that this is actually that
- 15:57Speaker 4: good of a Broncos team, and they play in a
- 15:59Speaker 4: really tough Division two. So I'm just kind of hands
- 16:03Speaker 4: off on them.
- 16:05Speaker 2: I'm one of those people he's talking about me. I'm
- 16:07Speaker 2: all in on the Broncos. Chad, you know this, I
- 16:10Speaker 2: can't help it. I love Sean Payton and I can't
- 16:12Speaker 2: stop looking at the numbers from last year. I think
- 16:14Speaker 2: it was what the hell was it with it? I
- 16:16Speaker 2: think it was through the first ten weeks, if they
- 16:19Speaker 2: had scored more than eighteen points, they would have been
- 16:21Speaker 2: nine to one to start eat the season. Last year, again,
- 16:23Speaker 2: if they had just scored more than eighteen points per game,
- 16:26Speaker 2: they would have been nine and one. So it kind
- 16:29Speaker 2: of makes sense that you know, they're kind of being
- 16:31Speaker 2: talked about the Broncos. But Freeman's right, like that division
- 16:34Speaker 2: is so tough, and you know, means Jet or mean
- 16:37Speaker 2: Chad are lined up. We both were just down on
- 16:39Speaker 2: the Jets. So I won't steal Chad's answer. Everyone already
- 16:42Speaker 2: knows them down the Jets. I'm gonna go Seattle. I'm
- 16:45Speaker 2: trying to look at teams that I think made the
- 16:46Speaker 2: playoffs last year that I could see them not making
- 16:48Speaker 2: it this upcoming season. These are them or Miami, right,
- 16:52Speaker 2: these two teams that if added pieces during this offseason,
- 16:55Speaker 2: most people are gonna bet them to take another step
- 16:57Speaker 2: this year. I got to just go back on watch
- 17:00Speaker 2: to film on Gino, Like Gino was a completely different
- 17:02Speaker 2: quarterback the first half to the second half. The league
- 17:04Speaker 2: really did catch up with that offense in the second half.
- 17:07Speaker 2: The Seahawks. So I do love what they did the draft, right,
- 17:10Speaker 2: they got another receiver, they arguably the best corner in
- 17:13Speaker 2: the draft. But there's a lot of things they did
- 17:15Speaker 2: last year. I just don't think they'll be as lucky. Right,
- 17:17Speaker 2: they caught up a bunch of teams at the right times,
- 17:19Speaker 2: like they played the Chargers after Herbert had cracked his ribs.
- 17:22Speaker 2: So they actually dominated the Chargers where they probably wouldn't
- 17:25Speaker 2: have had that. They had a bunch of backup quarterbacks
- 17:27Speaker 2: they played against. The Seahawks just seem like a team
- 17:29Speaker 2: that's gonna regress this upcoming season. So the Dead selfie
- 17:32Speaker 2: a team that their odds have been moving. I mean,
- 17:34Speaker 2: I won't name the podcast, but a really big name
- 17:36Speaker 2: podcast talked about them. They dropped their odds from plus
- 17:38Speaker 2: two fifty done plus two hundred plus one ninety a
- 17:41Speaker 2: lot of books. They bumped a lot of other teams
- 17:44Speaker 2: that division. The Rams included up to ten to one
- 17:46Speaker 2: to win that division. So we've already seen the Seahawks
- 17:48Speaker 2: are getting a lot of money and a lot of
- 17:49Speaker 2: hype headed into this upcoming season.
- 17:51Speaker 4: Chad the podcast one quick thing, Go ahead, go ahead,
- 17:54Speaker 4: say that thebs.
- 17:57Speaker 1: Oh I didn't even hear that.
- 17:58Speaker 2: Okay, yeah yeah, Bill Simmon said he the Seahawks and
- 18:00Speaker 2: like literally, Bill Simmons moved the number. God bless Bill Simmons.
- 18:04Speaker 2: So I had a bunch of eight to one tickets
- 18:06Speaker 2: on the Rams and won their division thanks to my
- 18:08Speaker 2: guy Bill Simmons. I have a bunch of ten to
- 18:10Speaker 2: one tickets now in the Rams to win a division.
- 18:12Speaker 2: So hopefully the hype keeps going up on the Seahawks team.
- 18:16Speaker 4: You know the Seahawks. I almost chose them. That was
- 18:19Speaker 4: like the second option. It was like them or the Broncos. Yeah, Simon,
- 18:23Speaker 4: I'm with you there on the Seahawks, like they have potential.
- 18:25Speaker 4: But you know Geno Smith, could he regress to like
- 18:27Speaker 4: his career average? Yeah, he could easily do that.
- 18:32Speaker 1: Next question, this is for Chad. Chad Milman. Could you
- 18:37Speaker 1: compare working in sports betting at this exact stage in
- 18:41Speaker 1: its media development to working in some other branch of
- 18:45Speaker 1: media in some other era. Second question, what's it like
- 18:50Speaker 1: today versus your ESPN Behind the Bets moonlighting ten years ago?
- 18:56Speaker 1: So I read this.
- 18:58Speaker 2: I was the name of your showback then with called
- 19:00Speaker 2: Behind the Bets.
- 19:01Speaker 1: Yeah, I didn't like it. I'll tell you what. This
- 19:06Speaker 1: was a big point of contention. I was asked to
- 19:08Speaker 1: do the podcast, and I was trying to think of fun,
- 19:11Speaker 1: clever names to do, and like, eventually my boss, who
- 19:14Speaker 1: was already irritated that someone had asked me to do
- 19:17Speaker 1: this podcast and it was taking me away from doing
- 19:20Speaker 1: like the day to day work, at the magazine where
- 19:22Speaker 1: I was editor in chief. Yet I was thinking about
- 19:25Speaker 1: these names and he's like, fuck it, we're doing behind
- 19:28Speaker 1: the bets. He's like, just name what it is. I'm like, no,
- 19:31Speaker 1: I want it to be more personality driven, have a
- 19:33Speaker 1: little more flavor, a little Nope, nope, behind the bets.
- 19:36Speaker 1: I don't give a shit. If you're a personality, I
- 19:38Speaker 1: don't give a shit. If you're in front of it,
- 19:39Speaker 1: it's behind the bets. So it was behind the bets,
- 19:41Speaker 1: which still exists today. Obviously. I think within the sports
- 19:46Speaker 1: space the development of sports betting right now, the comps
- 19:53Speaker 1: are fantasy and analytics in that all of u sudden
- 20:01Speaker 1: they have become these huge parts of sports in the
- 20:06Speaker 1: way fantasy did probably ten years ago when Matthew Berry
- 20:11Speaker 1: really started to take off at ESPN and Yahoo's fantasy
- 20:15Speaker 1: became so big and the NFL started a fantasy game
- 20:17Speaker 1: to compete with it. In CBS, etc. And analytics like
- 20:21Speaker 1: over the last generation, since Michael Lewis wrote Moneyball, it
- 20:25Speaker 1: has slowly crept into the mainstream to the point where
- 20:30Speaker 1: it was a thing that you know, people who played
- 20:33Speaker 1: stratomatic baseball like Darryl Morey, growing up did to all
- 20:37Speaker 1: of a sudden, it's theo Epstein and a universe of
- 20:41Speaker 1: stat geeks and analytics geeks running teams, not just in baseball,
- 20:45Speaker 1: but in basketball and football and hockey too. And so
- 20:49Speaker 1: this is the stage sports betting is in where it's
- 20:51Speaker 1: caught on and gone mainstream. I think if it's an
- 20:56Speaker 1: industry some other branch of media, it's a little bit
- 21:00Speaker 1: like Netflix. I say this all the time, like the
- 21:07Speaker 1: business of betting is going to consume the business of media.
- 21:12Speaker 1: And Netflix fifteen twenty years ago, whatever it was is
- 21:16Speaker 1: sending me DVDs right, and pretty soon Netflix puts Blockbuster
- 21:21Speaker 1: out of business. And then it evolves and grows and
- 21:25Speaker 1: mores and transitions, and now all of a sudden, it's,
- 21:29Speaker 1: you know, the biggest threat there is to traditional media,
- 21:32Speaker 1: and it's what Comcast, Disney, Viacom. They're all paramount. They're
- 21:38Speaker 1: all chasing what Netflix has created, which is a viable,
- 21:44Speaker 1: revenue focused streaming business, while they're all stuck in a
- 21:50Speaker 1: declining linear space. Second part of the question, what's it
- 21:55Speaker 1: like today versus ESPN? Behind the bets, moon Lighting ten
- 21:58Speaker 1: years ago, side hull, side hustle versus main hustle ten
- 22:03Speaker 1: years ago. I'm doing it. It's something I'm paying attention to,
- 22:07Speaker 1: and a lot of avid betting fans are paying attention to.
- 22:12Speaker 1: No competition. Everyone thinks and no one thinks they are
- 22:15Speaker 1: an expert. Today everyone thinks they're an expert. There's so
- 22:18Speaker 1: much competition. Here's a great example. I mentioned Matthew Berry
- 22:21Speaker 1: of Fantasy, who was a pioneer in the Space Hall
- 22:24Speaker 1: of Famer. Brilliant guy, good friend. I love the guy
- 22:29Speaker 1: to death. Ten years ago, he and I are doing
- 22:32Speaker 1: an invite only panel for ESPN Insiders. We're in Orlando.
- 22:38Speaker 1: We're talking about fantasy and sports betting. He's totally against
- 22:43Speaker 1: sports betting, doesn't even want it in the same sentence
- 22:46Speaker 1: as fantasy. I'm like, dude, there is no difference. The
- 22:49Speaker 1: only difference is like semantics. Today he is a betting
- 22:53Speaker 1: expert for NBC. Right, That is the difference in ten
- 22:57Speaker 1: years side hustle versus made hustle. Yeah, next question that
- 23:04Speaker 1: you do?
- 23:05Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 23:06Speaker 1: Nice? You never agree with me, That's fantastic, Simon. You've
- 23:11Speaker 1: talked about tailing other people at action across other sports.
- 23:15Speaker 1: Who are some of the experts you trust most for
- 23:17Speaker 1: stuff that isn't football, oh man.
- 23:21Speaker 2: I mean, Chad over Here has hired about thirty guys
- 23:24Speaker 2: to cover golf for us, but they're all pretty damn good.
- 23:27Speaker 2: So I would say you can't really go wrong with
- 23:28Speaker 2: any of the guys covering golf for the action, I
- 23:30Speaker 2: would say for the other random sports, Sean Kerner is
- 23:34Speaker 2: just money. Like he's great at player props, He's good
- 23:36Speaker 2: at baseball, He's really good at WNBA like the women's game.
- 23:41Speaker 2: Shawn's really talented at that. So I would say, if
- 23:43Speaker 2: I'm betting big money, I've made a decent amount off Sean,
- 23:48Speaker 2: no doubt. And then during the season again we do
- 23:50Speaker 2: this show every Sunday, I'm really betting Chris Raybond's plays too.
- 23:54Speaker 2: So during the season when we do our show chat
- 23:57Speaker 2: on Sunday morning, I'm putting bets in off what they're
- 23:59Speaker 2: giving me. Because I'm not a huge player prop guy, right,
- 24:01Speaker 2: I really like doing size and totals, but when people
- 24:05Speaker 2: give me any type of edge on a player prop,
- 24:08Speaker 2: I try to make the bets. My only issue of
- 24:09Speaker 2: player props is they limit me, right, Like, if you're
- 24:11Speaker 2: trying to better player prop, it's hard to get more
- 24:14Speaker 2: than one hundred dollars down, especially online a lot of
- 24:16Speaker 2: books just because they cut people off, right, they just
- 24:19Speaker 2: know that's a big edge, better than player pops, just
- 24:21Speaker 2: because it's different than spreading totals. So during the season,
- 24:25Speaker 2: I definitely definitely listen to the other guys. You know,
- 24:30Speaker 2: it's one of those where I know that Sean and
- 24:34Speaker 2: Chris have done the work and that's why I trust him,
- 24:37Speaker 2: where like sometimes some people can bullshit it, right, they
- 24:40Speaker 2: can get away with it for a year or two,
- 24:41Speaker 2: but they'll eventually get caught. Where I know those guys,
- 24:43Speaker 2: especially all the years we've worked together now, like they
- 24:46Speaker 2: put in the work. Hell, and we were in New
- 24:48Speaker 2: York for that whole weekend, Chad, I think Chris was
- 24:50Speaker 2: out parting every night, but he was there at nine
- 24:52Speaker 2: in the morning with his laptop open, busting his ass,
- 24:55Speaker 2: doing the numbers, doing the work. So again, you just
- 24:57Speaker 2: want to follow people that there can assistant and they
- 25:01Speaker 2: do it over a period of time, right, you know,
- 25:02Speaker 2: you don't want to just dive in on something that's
- 25:03Speaker 2: just been doing been good for a month or two.
- 25:05Speaker 2: You want to really see what the longevi is of
- 25:07Speaker 2: their records. So to me, those are two guys I
- 25:10Speaker 2: really do trust that Action network.
- 25:13Speaker 1: Raybon and Crooner party hard, work harder.
- 25:18Speaker 2: Yeah, they do, truth, they do.
- 25:21Speaker 1: Freeman is like that. Freeman is brilliant. Freeman is a
- 25:23Speaker 1: guy on player Props was so freaking good at action.
- 25:28Speaker 1: In his new role, he is going to crush it
- 25:30Speaker 1: and be just as good Freeman. Is there anybody your
- 25:32Speaker 1: tailing for non NFL sports?
- 25:35Speaker 3: Uh?
- 25:36Speaker 4: Yeah, I appreciate that, And so all second with Simon said,
- 25:39Speaker 4: Corner and Raybond are awesome at what they do. Sean
- 25:42Speaker 4: Zarrillo for MLB, He's someone that I think has been
- 25:46Speaker 4: pretty short for.
- 25:47Speaker 2: A long time.
- 25:48Speaker 4: And then, uh, you know Matt Moore for w NBA,
- 25:52Speaker 4: actually not not so much for NBA. Not like to
- 25:54Speaker 4: take anything away from him, but like the edge and
- 25:57Speaker 4: NBA is so much thinner than the edges in WNBAU.
- 26:02Speaker 4: And you know, he's a basketball expert across leagues, and
- 26:06Speaker 4: so whenever he has talked about stuff for WNBA, I
- 26:09Speaker 4: tend to pay attention to it.
- 26:12Speaker 1: Brandon Anderson NBA Futures and NBA alt lines. The guy
- 26:20Speaker 1: has such a feel for betting huge spreads in very
- 26:25Speaker 1: specific spots and he's great on NBA futures. Another one,
- 26:30Speaker 1: Please make a prediction about what NFL QB is most
- 26:35Speaker 1: likely to break your heart repeatedly this season. Chad says,
- 26:40Speaker 1: that's me, Jared Goff, Trevor Lawrence, Deshaun Watson. I will
- 26:46Speaker 1: be a sucker for all of them. Friedman.
- 26:50Speaker 4: Yeah, So I'm approaching this conversation in two different ways.
- 26:53Speaker 4: So one is Desmond Ritterer. I like the Falcons and
- 26:57Speaker 4: I kind of view them as a bet on team
- 26:59Speaker 4: this year, And I can just imagine several scenarios in
- 27:03Speaker 4: which I'm on, you know, the right side, but Desmond
- 27:06Speaker 4: Ritter does something that you would expect out of a
- 27:08Speaker 4: kind of inexperienced second hit in your third round quarterback,
- 27:11Speaker 4: and he ends up costing me. And then on the
- 27:14Speaker 4: flip side, I view the Raiders and the Commanders as
- 27:19Speaker 4: terrible teams that people should be very desirous to line
- 27:24Speaker 4: up against and bet against all year long. But I
- 27:26Speaker 4: could see some sort of situation where somehow Jimmy g
- 27:29Speaker 4: is actually good and he covers more than I would expect,
- 27:33Speaker 4: and that Sam Howell, you know, plays like a latter
- 27:37Speaker 4: day Tim Tebow and like just runs around and somehow
- 27:40Speaker 4: covers spreads that shouldn't be covered and break my heart
- 27:44Speaker 4: that way. So those are the three Ritter, Jimmy g
- 27:47Speaker 4: and Howell Simon.
- 27:50Speaker 2: I merely though the three guys while are the biggest
- 27:53Speaker 2: future bets on so Stafford, I'm all of them the rams,
- 27:56Speaker 2: Like Chad knows all in on the Bear. So Justin
- 27:58Speaker 2: Field's way up there for him. Like Justin Fields has
- 28:01Speaker 2: a down year this year, I'm going to lose a
- 28:03Speaker 2: lot of money on futures, like I need him to
- 28:05Speaker 2: take that next step. The last one's gonna be Russell Wilson,
- 28:08Speaker 2: like I'm just all in on this Denver team in
- 28:10Speaker 2: the year after. I like being a year after everyone else. Right,
- 28:14Speaker 2: everyone was over the Denver last year. Now their value
- 28:16Speaker 2: is what it should be. Right Like last year they
- 28:19Speaker 2: probably should have been plus four to fifty plus five
- 28:21Speaker 2: hundred win their division. They weren't. They were like plus
- 28:23Speaker 2: two twenty five plus two fifty. That was too much.
- 28:26Speaker 2: Where this year it feels right. So my three quarterbacks
- 28:29Speaker 2: definitely Russell Wilson, Matthew Stafford, and Justin Fields, Like I'm
- 28:33Speaker 2: all in one those three guys.
- 28:35Speaker 1: I will make a bold prediction right now at some
- 28:38Speaker 1: point this year, Jared Goff, Trevor Lawrence, Deshaun Watson, Russell Wilson,
- 28:43Speaker 1: Justin Field, Matt Stafford, Desmond Ritter, Sam Howell, and Jimmy
- 28:48Speaker 1: g will all break our hearts at some point. That
- 28:53Speaker 1: is an absolute given. Also, Friedman Brandon Cohen, also known
- 28:58Speaker 1: as BC, one of our product leads, promises you can
- 29:04Speaker 1: have your expert status back if you promise to begin
- 29:09Speaker 1: tracking picks again in the apps.
- 29:14Speaker 2: All you want.
- 29:14Speaker 1: Matt Mitchell, Matt Mitchell, tell him it's done. I broke
- 29:17Speaker 1: her to deal right here. That's what I do.
- 29:20Speaker 3: Is spoken, So it is done.
- 29:21Speaker 1: So it is spoken, So it is done. You guys
- 29:24Speaker 1: have heard me talk about game Time so often on
- 29:27Speaker 1: this podcast. It's the fastest growing ticketing app in the
- 29:30Speaker 1: United States. I love game Time, honestly, I use it

- 30:11Speaker 1: last minute tickets, lowest price guaranteed. Next question, Aaron Rodgers
- 30:17Speaker 1: recently mentioned and joined the psychedelic ayahuasca and noted it
- 30:22Speaker 1: did not harm his performance as an athlete. Could the
- 30:26Speaker 1: proper use of hallucinogens be the next phase in sports
- 30:30Speaker 1: or sports betting excellence? I don't think so. I think
- 30:35Speaker 1: the process will be widespread acceptance and adoption of marijuana first.
- 30:42Speaker 1: I think, like everything else, it's progress, and hallucinogens are
- 30:48Speaker 1: all of a sudden sort of the drug of the day.
- 30:53Speaker 1: There was just a story in the Wall Street Journal
- 30:55Speaker 1: about how in Silicon Valley so many executives are lead
- 31:00Speaker 1: into the use of psychedelics. I think twenty years ago
- 31:04Speaker 1: that would have been like, oh my god, these guys
- 31:06Speaker 1: are geniuses. I think today, given what we've seen about crypto,
- 31:10Speaker 1: about the tech industry, maybe everyone is not as smart
- 31:14Speaker 1: as we thought they were. But I do think it's
- 31:18Speaker 1: going to start with marijuana and eventually a generation from
- 31:22Speaker 1: now get to psychedelics. Freedman.
- 31:27Speaker 4: I mean, I can barely be profitable with no drugs.
- 31:30Speaker 4: I think if I were using drugs that would destroy
- 31:33Speaker 4: my bankroll. So for me personally, I don't see it
- 31:36Speaker 4: as being the next wave of sports betting.
- 31:40Speaker 1: I am so nervous for what Simon has to say, A.
- 31:43Speaker 2: Couple of nerds, What a bunch of nerds. Yeah, I
- 31:46Speaker 2: haven't been sober in about twenty years, So taking from
- 31:49Speaker 2: someone that is always smoking, loves the mushrooms, love magic mushrooms.
- 31:54Speaker 2: But it's all about moderation, picking your spots. I would
- 31:56Speaker 2: say the microdosing thing has blown up chat Like I know,
- 32:02Speaker 2: like the straightest people in the world that do that
- 32:04Speaker 2: shit now, which blows my mind. Like kids I wouldn't
- 32:07Speaker 2: even drink in high school now are like yeah, Like
- 32:09Speaker 2: I microdos to my wife and like I'm like, what
- 32:13Speaker 2: things are changing? So I would say I wouldn't recommend
- 32:17Speaker 2: it to people, but for me it's a nice reset,
- 32:19Speaker 2: Like if I have a really terrible week, maybe I'll
- 32:22Speaker 2: take the Monday off and go on a little trip,
- 32:24Speaker 2: you know, Chad, a little trip around the world. So
- 32:26Speaker 2: it's it's one of those it's all about knowing yourself
- 32:29Speaker 2: and what you can and can't handle, because some people
- 32:31Speaker 2: can't handle it. I've seen that many of times. Some
- 32:33Speaker 2: people cannot handle the psychedelic So it's one of those
- 32:37Speaker 2: where I would not recommend it to people. But I'm
- 32:40Speaker 2: not shocked by especially when you just talk about Silicon
- 32:42Speaker 2: Valley guys. It's it's a known fact, known fact that
- 32:48Speaker 2: Steve Jobs came up with the iPhone when he was
- 32:50Speaker 2: on psychedelic drugs. So it is one of those things
- 32:53Speaker 2: where if you have an idea and you're stuck, some people,
- 32:56Speaker 2: it does help crack those ideas. In my line of work, Betty,
- 33:00Speaker 2: I don't recommend it like it's I've never made a
- 33:03Speaker 2: bet on any drug. Like I've never gotten smoked a
- 33:05Speaker 2: blunt and been like, all right now I'm gonna make
- 33:06Speaker 2: my bets. You're not out of a clear mind. You
- 33:08Speaker 2: want to do everything with a clear mind, but after
- 33:10Speaker 2: all the work is done, you want to take the
- 33:12Speaker 2: edge off, do your thing. But I'm with freem the
- 33:15Speaker 2: sense that it is so damn hard to win sports betting.
- 33:19Speaker 2: Do not nick drugs in like just because you if
- 33:22Speaker 2: you're doing drugs, you're like, oh that belt, that bet
- 33:24Speaker 2: feels so good and it feels like a smart bet.
- 33:26Speaker 2: It's not you're just on drugs. So I try to
- 33:29Speaker 2: tell people do the work sober and then have fun after.
- 33:32Speaker 2: So that that would definitely be my view on this
- 33:33Speaker 2: whole this whole situation.
- 33:35Speaker 1: Exactly the answer I expected from you. I in college,
- 33:43Speaker 1: all my friends were doing shrooms and they were like, dude,
- 33:47Speaker 1: I'm telling you right now, it's not for you. Don't
- 33:50Speaker 1: even do it, don't try it. They thought I was honestly,
- 33:54Speaker 1: they thought I was already too optimistic and too happy.
- 33:59Speaker 2: That's like the Michael Scott line from the Office. It's like,
- 34:01Speaker 2: I don't think anyone's even offered Michael Scott drugs because
- 34:04Speaker 2: you just you don't seem like you need it. I
- 34:05Speaker 2: feel like you're in the same boat. Chat.
- 34:07Speaker 1: I think I think that's accurate. Listen, question, what can
- 34:10Speaker 1: we expect from the Favorites this season? Same schedule, same platforms,
- 34:14Speaker 1: Bigger and better than ever, no joke, I'm not even kidding.
- 34:17Speaker 1: So everyone knows that the premise for the show has
- 34:19Speaker 1: always been Simon and I are making five picks for
- 34:23Speaker 1: a contest, and we've got to come to a consensus
- 34:25Speaker 1: on the five picks we like the best, and we
- 34:27Speaker 1: generally have crushed it. Every single year years past, we've
- 34:32Speaker 1: been in a contest, a big money contest that we
- 34:35Speaker 1: can't mention on the show because it's never the contest
- 34:37Speaker 1: that is done by our sponsor. This year, we are
- 34:40Speaker 1: doing a contest with Bet three six five. Everyone will
- 34:44Speaker 1: be able to join. You can compete against me and
- 34:46Speaker 1: Simon for the for a best of five season long
- 34:51Speaker 1: pick them contest all season long. So that's number one.
- 34:54Speaker 2: Number two.
- 34:56Speaker 1: We will have shows live Sunday Night in advance of
- 35:00Speaker 1: the Sunday Night football game. We'll preview Sunday Night Football.
- 35:02Speaker 1: Also we will get the review of Sunday and the
- 35:05Speaker 1: heartache and the pain and the joy of Sunday out
- 35:08Speaker 1: of the way on Sundays, usually in that seven thirty
- 35:11Speaker 1: to eight thirty window. It will be live on AMP
- 35:13Speaker 1: Live on YouTube. Then we will do our regular Tuesday
- 35:17Speaker 1: show where we start breaking down the full slate, and
- 35:19Speaker 1: then our Thursday show where we narrow it down. We
- 35:21Speaker 1: do our sort of favorite picks of the week. All
- 35:26Speaker 1: that's going on. The biggest news, I would say, be
- 35:28Speaker 1: on the lookout first Sunday night of the NFL season
- 35:32Speaker 1: in New Jersey, somewhere in northern New Jersey, Simon and
- 35:36Speaker 1: I will be doing an in person show that first
- 35:39Speaker 1: Sunday live show in the seven thirty to eight thirty
- 35:41Speaker 1: window will be live in person in a space where
- 35:45Speaker 1: we can do the podcast and then watch the game
- 35:48Speaker 1: together again sponsored by that three six five.
- 35:52Speaker 2: Well, let me just say, Chad, you have my word.
- 35:54Speaker 2: People if me and chat start five and oher that
- 35:56Speaker 2: week one and then we have that little party that
- 35:59Speaker 2: Sunday night. First round is on May.
- 36:02Speaker 1: First Round on Simon. If we go five and oh
- 36:04Speaker 1: for week one, let's do it.
- 36:07Speaker 4: You're not throwing Matt Mitchell's neighbors a party.
- 36:14Speaker 1: Matt Mitchell will throw Matt Mitchell's neighbors a party. I'm
- 36:18Speaker 1: skipping one of the questions here because I know Matt
- 36:20Speaker 1: Mitchell pretty soon is gonna tell me we gotta get going.
- 36:22Speaker 2: Uh.
- 36:23Speaker 1: If you had a if you had to drive a
- 36:25Speaker 1: big van of five NFL players across the country NonStop,
- 36:29Speaker 1: who are your five and why? I'll go first Kelsey Brothers.
- 36:35Speaker 1: Uh you know uh, Jason Kelsey is a huge music fan.
- 36:41Speaker 1: I feel like he would do a great job as
- 36:43Speaker 1: sort of the road trip DJ, and I think I
- 36:45Speaker 1: like his style of music. Patrick Mahomes Uh the guy
- 36:51Speaker 1: drink Corzlite like water.
- 36:52Speaker 3: In that.
- 36:54Speaker 1: Golf tournament with Tom Brady and Rogers and Josh Allen,
- 36:57Speaker 1: he just leaving like a baller. Joe Burrow, It's too
- 37:00Speaker 1: cool Von Miller because I think he would say all
- 37:02Speaker 1: the interesting shit. And I'd also bring Mike McDaniel because
- 37:07Speaker 1: talk about having a good time, Simon, he would bring
- 37:10Speaker 1: the good time.
- 37:14Speaker 4: Okay, this is an interesting thought experiment. I think it's
- 37:16Speaker 4: more important to identify the players you don't want to
- 37:19Speaker 4: bring than the players you do want to bring. Like
- 37:22Speaker 4: I don't want any divas, so like wide receivers and
- 37:25Speaker 4: cornerbacks like they are out. But if I had to
- 37:29Speaker 4: identify people actually to bring, I'm with you, I would
- 37:32Speaker 4: go with Kelsey. I would go with Travis Kelcey Wan
- 37:36Speaker 4: Kelsey brothers enough. I feel like if you had two
- 37:38Speaker 4: of them in the band together, they would get each
- 37:41Speaker 4: other riled up. So I want like that Kelsey Aura,
- 37:44Speaker 4: but I don't want it amplified, so want Kelsey. I
- 37:47Speaker 4: would have Kittle. This is cheating a little bit, but
- 37:50Speaker 4: I would have Marshaun Lynch. I still think of him
- 37:53Speaker 4: as an NFL player versus a retired NFL player, and
- 37:55Speaker 4: I feel like the vibe he would bring would be
- 37:58Speaker 4: very good with you, Mahomes, I think he would be
- 38:02Speaker 4: like an all around jokester. And then Jalen Hurts like
- 38:06Speaker 4: I feel like he would bring a little bit of
- 38:08Speaker 4: like solemnity to the proceedings, like in a good way,
- 38:11Speaker 4: like whenever you need just a little like someone just
- 38:13Speaker 4: bring it down a little bit. I feel like you
- 38:14Speaker 4: would help do that. Like he's the guy who brings
- 38:17Speaker 4: a literal briefcase to work every day, so I feel
- 38:20Speaker 4: like he has a sense of humor about him, but
- 38:23Speaker 4: also a certain type of seriousness. And then you had
- 38:26Speaker 4: a head coach. I will go with the head coach
- 38:28Speaker 4: as well. I would bring Andy Reid because I feel
- 38:31Speaker 4: like that dude has some stories and he could he
- 38:34Speaker 4: could cut up for the entire ride.
- 38:36Speaker 1: I think, and he reads a good choice too. Simon.
- 38:40Speaker 2: Yeah, my first my first pig right away was Ricky Williams.
- 38:43Speaker 2: I've always loved Ricky He's actually now in like kind
- 38:45Speaker 2: of the social media world where he does his own
- 38:48Speaker 2: shows and he gives like horror scorpes, like he tells
- 38:51Speaker 2: people like their signs and all this other crap. I
- 38:53Speaker 2: don't care about any of that. I just want to
- 38:54Speaker 2: hear old stories from Ricky, Like that guy has lived
- 38:56Speaker 2: a crazy life. You know, he's gotta have some good stories.
- 39:00Speaker 2: I'm with chat about the Kelchier brothers. I gotta go
- 39:01Speaker 2: with both of them, Like Jason just seems like he's hilarious.
- 39:04Speaker 2: Travis seems like he's funniest hell too, So I like
- 39:07Speaker 2: both those picks. Mahomes is Kenny Powers, Like I don't
- 39:10Speaker 2: know if you ever seen that clip of they do
- 39:12Speaker 2: Mahomes's voice dubbed over Kenny Powers. They literally sound the
- 39:16Speaker 2: exact same and they talk the same, like I really
- 39:18Speaker 2: my companion, So that would be a good one. Mahomes,
- 39:22Speaker 2: He's just a character. This is actually an Eagles guy
- 39:25Speaker 2: though you probably never really like seem talk much, but
- 39:29Speaker 2: he's probably one of the funniest guys in the entire league.
- 39:31Speaker 2: Brandon Graham, Like he is hilarious. If you have time,
- 39:34Speaker 2: go YouTube Brandon Graham talking shit. He is one of
- 39:37Speaker 2: the funniest guys in football, just smack talking and just
- 39:40Speaker 2: in life like he's very happy, go lucky. And I
- 39:43Speaker 2: feel like if you're doing a road trip, you always
- 39:45Speaker 2: need that one happy, go lucky guy because there's gonna
- 39:47Speaker 2: be dark days, right, There's gonna be days you're gonna
- 39:49Speaker 2: wake up, you're gonna taste the night before, and you
- 39:51Speaker 2: gotta drive about twelve hours on the road. You need
- 39:54Speaker 2: that person to keep you in the car. Entertained for
- 39:56Speaker 2: my last one, another Homer pick. I gotta go with Hurts.
- 40:00Speaker 2: I would just love to chill Hertz talk with him.
- 40:02Speaker 2: He just seems like he's so deep, He's so knowledgeable
- 40:04Speaker 2: about life and motivation. He just seems like a good
- 40:07Speaker 2: dude to hang out with. So shocked to know. And
- 40:10Speaker 2: I have three Eagles and then my five guys. I
- 40:12Speaker 2: drive across country with Hey A couple of things.
- 40:15Speaker 4: A couple of things. The Ricky Williams pick, I'm envious
- 40:18Speaker 4: of that pick. Great pick there. If I had to
- 40:22Speaker 4: think of a player that I would sub in, I
- 40:24Speaker 4: would maybe do Justin Tucker because I feel like he
- 40:27Speaker 4: would be like Ry. He would have that kind of
- 40:30Speaker 4: like dry wit where like everyone else has senses of
- 40:34Speaker 4: humor that are kind of more aligned. He would sort
- 40:37Speaker 4: of be like the assassin who comes in with like
- 40:39Speaker 4: a really sharp quip that everyone is just like, oh,
- 40:42Speaker 4: did you hear that? So I don't know why. I
- 40:44Speaker 4: just feel like he would be He would be someone
- 40:46Speaker 4: who would like add a different angle to the proceedings
- 40:49Speaker 4: but still be really hilarious.
- 40:52Speaker 1: Great Ricky Williams story when I was tern chief of that.
- 40:56Speaker 1: When I was edtern chief of the magazine, he's been
- 40:58Speaker 1: in the magazine was the Niners Ravens super Bowl in
- 41:02Speaker 1: New Orleans, and Ricky Williams at this time had retired.
- 41:05Speaker 1: His last team was the Ravens, and he had recently
- 41:07Speaker 1: retired and he had started working as a photographer. So
- 41:13Speaker 1: we hired Ricky Williams to shoot from the sidelines the
- 41:16Speaker 1: super Bowl, including his old teammates the Ravens, and that
- 41:22Speaker 1: Friday night we had a big dinner in New Orleans,
- 41:27Speaker 1: a team dinner, and Ricky Williams joined us because he
- 41:30Speaker 1: was working for us that weekend, and my wife happened
- 41:33Speaker 1: to be at the Super Bowl in New Orleans, the
- 41:35Speaker 1: only super Bowl she ever came to. We have the
- 41:37Speaker 1: twenty five I've been to. It's the only one she
- 41:39Speaker 1: ever went to. And we were all having dinner in it. Now.
- 41:42Speaker 1: I happened to be at the end of the table
- 41:44Speaker 1: with my wife Stacy and Ricky, and Stacy's not a
- 41:47Speaker 1: sports fan. She has no idea who Ricky Williams is,
- 41:51Speaker 1: and so she starts talking to Ricky about being a photographer,
- 41:55Speaker 1: and then it comes out that he had played football.
- 41:58Speaker 1: She's like, Oh my god, that's so cool. Where did
- 42:00Speaker 1: you play? Were you any good? She didn't know he
- 42:03Speaker 1: had won a Heisman, she didn't know he had run
- 42:07Speaker 1: for more yards than anybody at Texas That she didn't
- 42:10Speaker 1: know the dickest story, right, And so he was so
- 42:14Speaker 1: charmed because he could just be Ricky Williams. And the
- 42:18Speaker 1: person he was talking to was not enamored with him
- 42:21Speaker 1: because of football. She just thought he was a really cool,
- 42:24Speaker 1: nice guy who had really great stories to tell and
- 42:27Speaker 1: a really interesting point of view. It was so fun
- 42:30Speaker 1: to sit with him that night. It was fantastic.
- 42:32Speaker 2: I heard the man.
- 42:34Speaker 1: He's great, He's really great. We probably got to go faster. Simon,
- 42:41Speaker 1: can you describe the specific NFL prep you do between
- 42:45Speaker 1: now July and Week one to prepare for the upcoming
- 42:49Speaker 1: NFL season.
- 42:51Speaker 2: I'm done at to this point, Like right now, I
- 42:54Speaker 2: did everything basically, if we went through, i'd give you
- 42:58Speaker 2: all my projections for every team pretty much like I've
- 43:01Speaker 2: already done the whole entire season, each week, went through
- 43:04Speaker 2: each week, I have each matchup, and then basically once
- 43:07Speaker 2: training camp starts. That's why I can start updating stuff
- 43:09Speaker 2: because there's a bunch of new teams. Right if you
- 43:12Speaker 2: have a new coach, that's a new scheme for the
- 43:14Speaker 2: offense vice versa. If it's a new quarterback and a
- 43:16Speaker 2: new scheme. And then defensively, it's a big deal when
- 43:19Speaker 2: different coordinators come in. I mean, is I think Vic
- 43:22Speaker 2: Vangio did he go to Miami? I know he went
- 43:25Speaker 2: somewhere where It's like that's a big deal. Like Miami
- 43:28Speaker 2: now is getting one of the best defensive coordinators in
- 43:30Speaker 2: all football history, and they have a crazy good defense,
- 43:34Speaker 2: Like if you look at their defense on paper, they
- 43:36Speaker 2: have a ton of talent. So right now, that's going
- 43:39Speaker 2: to be an update once I see what scheme's gonna
- 43:41Speaker 2: run with that Miami defense, Because say, right now, I've
- 43:43Speaker 2: heard them projected as a top five defense. Once I
- 43:46Speaker 2: see their scheme, I start getting some numbers behind it,
- 43:49Speaker 2: I'd easily can bump them up to a top three defense.
- 43:51Speaker 2: So that's kind of thing where I'll make adjustments right
- 43:54Speaker 2: once training camp starts and I can start seeing these
- 43:56Speaker 2: different packages, and the beat writers are key, like I'm
- 44:00Speaker 2: that's my biggest advantage I think for everyone that does
- 44:02Speaker 2: social media is you get such good intel from these
- 44:04Speaker 2: beat writers. They're just they're locked in on certain teams.
- 44:07Speaker 2: So to me, that's a big big deal to me.
- 44:10Speaker 2: Over August, especially where July, I'm tinkering with stuff, Chad,
- 44:15Speaker 2: but it's kind of a dead period this time of year,
- 44:17Speaker 2: just because I feel like most better is the same way,
- 44:21Speaker 2: like once the draft happens, then you're just waiting for
- 44:24Speaker 2: the schedule release, and then all of a sudden, it's
- 44:26Speaker 2: like you're literally running through the whole season, Like it's
- 44:28Speaker 2: just you're just so excited you can't help but do
- 44:31Speaker 2: the work. And then I just do all the work,
- 44:32Speaker 2: and all of a sudden, July comes, I got nothing
- 44:34Speaker 2: to do. So this is a little bit of a
- 44:36Speaker 2: dead period before August, which is once August starts, like
- 44:39Speaker 2: that's where it's just never ending. There's never enough information,
- 44:43Speaker 2: like there's never enough work to be done. I try
- 44:45Speaker 2: to enjoy this period, but Chad knows I'm obsessed with football,
- 44:49Speaker 2: so it's like this is the longest month of the
- 44:51Speaker 2: year for me. It really is because it's so close
- 44:54Speaker 2: to football, and I can talk football for days at
- 44:56Speaker 2: this point because it's like preseason is the best because
- 44:59Speaker 2: you can have on here talking about just the fields
- 45:01Speaker 2: as the top ten quarterback, I can't shit on it
- 45:03Speaker 2: because it's projecting out. We're all having fun projecting futures here.
- 45:06Speaker 2: So that's why I just love this time of year.
- 45:08Speaker 2: It's just fill with so much hope before your team's
- 45:10Speaker 2: zero and three in Week three and you're just like,
- 45:12Speaker 2: I fucking hate this sport. So I definitely enjoy this
- 45:15Speaker 2: time of year. It's just so much fun getting into football,
- 45:18Speaker 2: especially the way it is our job now, right Chad,
- 45:21Speaker 2: just as ports betting has grown, it becomes so cool
- 45:24Speaker 2: knowing how many people listen to what we say and
- 45:26Speaker 2: taking advantage of what the information we're giving out. Like again,
- 45:29Speaker 2: we were giving out jaguar As nine to one at
- 45:31Speaker 2: this point last year win their division. There was only
- 45:34Speaker 2: maybe fifty Brave Souls out there that took that bet
- 45:36Speaker 2: with us, and that's what I love that there's people
- 45:38Speaker 2: out there that trust us and know we're doing the work.
- 45:40Speaker 2: So this time here a little bit of a dead period,
- 45:42Speaker 2: but once August starts, you know, July twenty fifth, I
- 45:44Speaker 2: think most teams are fully reported by July twenty fifth.
- 45:48Speaker 2: That's when it's all day every day reading beat writers,
- 45:51Speaker 2: trying to get information on each team, just because it's
- 45:54Speaker 2: so important to know what schemes teams are running, because
- 45:57Speaker 2: you wouldn't believe the Chad. There's just different weeks, there's
- 45:59Speaker 2: different scheme beat scheme, Like, it doesn't matter what kind
- 46:03Speaker 2: of players each side of the ball has, it's all
- 46:05Speaker 2: about what scheme matches up against other teams scheme. That's
- 46:08Speaker 2: why I talk all the time. Belichick is one of
- 46:11Speaker 2: the greatest coaches ever, just because every week he runs
- 46:14Speaker 2: a new scheme and not many coaches can do that.
- 46:16Speaker 2: So definitely enjoy this final month, but I'm ready for August.
- 46:20Speaker 4: Simon, I agree. I agree with almost everything he's had there.
- 46:25Speaker 4: The one a dendum I would add is that you
- 46:27Speaker 4: can shit on anything that Chad Milman says at any
- 46:29Speaker 4: time of the year. I'm going to be pretty insistent
- 46:31Speaker 4: on that.
- 46:33Speaker 1: Know what, that's accurate. I think that's generally the consensus. Yesterday,
- 46:41Speaker 1: there's a new person working in HR in action and
- 46:45Speaker 1: three different people told her to dismiss everything I say,
- 46:48Speaker 1: and all three of the people work for me. Here
- 46:52Speaker 1: we go, Russell Wilson. Question, as promised, what should we
- 46:55Speaker 1: expect from the rest of his career? How is he
- 46:57Speaker 1: going to be remembered? Does he have a camp? Here's
- 47:00Speaker 1: my prediction. He will go to the Hall of Fame.
- 47:03Speaker 1: He won a Super Bowl, got to another one, lost
- 47:06Speaker 1: it not because of his fault, bad play calling, so
- 47:09Speaker 1: many clutch performances, two way threat only player with thirty
- 47:13Speaker 1: five thousand passing yards and forty five hundred rush yards.
- 47:18Speaker 1: I texted my buddy Seth Wickersham. You know, one of
- 47:21Speaker 1: the most prominent sports writers covering the NFL for ESPN.
- 47:26Speaker 1: He's been on the podcast. Great best selling book about
- 47:29Speaker 1: the Patriots is Better to Be Feared?
- 47:31Speaker 2: Pick it up.
- 47:33Speaker 1: Here's from Seth. He's a mix of Boomer Assissin and
- 47:35Speaker 1: Kurt Warner in terms of career, with Boomer really good
- 47:40Speaker 1: but not one of the clearly best of his era.
- 47:43Speaker 1: Like Warner and that he had high peaks and low lows,
- 47:46Speaker 1: although Warner had higher peaks and lower lows, was not
- 47:51Speaker 1: convinced he was a Hall of Famer unless he has
- 47:53Speaker 1: sort of a couple of Warner like peaks.
- 47:57Speaker 4: Freedman, Yeah, I agree with a lot of what Wickersham said.
- 48:03Speaker 4: I don't think he's a Hall of Famer. At no
- 48:05Speaker 4: point has he ever been like the best quarterback in
- 48:08Speaker 4: the league or even like a top two maybe a
- 48:11Speaker 4: top three quarterback. There have always been other guys better
- 48:14Speaker 4: than him among his peers. So I feel like if
- 48:18Speaker 4: he was going to get there, it had to be
- 48:19Speaker 4: a longevity argument like Breeze, like he would have an
- 48:22Speaker 4: extended run where he's not great, but he's good enough
- 48:26Speaker 4: and he can pile stats that push him over the top.
- 48:29Speaker 4: But based on what we saw last year, I'm kind
- 48:32Speaker 4: of skeptical he actually ends up having that long tail.
- 48:35Speaker 4: I don't think he's a Hall of famer.
- 48:38Speaker 2: Ban Yeah, definitely an incredible career. I mean it's a
- 48:42Speaker 2: kid that you know, played four years NC State, transfer
- 48:46Speaker 2: of fifth year to what was that Wisconsin, and yeah,
- 48:50Speaker 2: you know that was one of those deals where when
- 48:52Speaker 2: he came out, I don't think anyone projected him to
- 48:54Speaker 2: do what he's done in his career. Where I not
- 48:58Speaker 2: that I give him too much weight for that first
- 49:00Speaker 2: Super Bowl because to me, that was just arguably one
- 49:03Speaker 2: of the greatest defenses ever and you had more Shawn
- 49:05Speaker 2: Lynch like it really was Russell Wilson, don't screw this
- 49:08Speaker 2: up and will win a super Bowl. And the one
- 49:10Speaker 2: time he did screw up, they didn't win the Super Bowl,
- 49:12Speaker 2: So that I will definitely always hold that against him
- 49:14Speaker 2: because everything you hear that's just pure ego, Like that
- 49:16Speaker 2: whole Super Bowl, every guy from that defense, they could
- 49:21Speaker 2: not wait the bad mouth him chat when he left
- 49:23Speaker 2: that Seahawks team, And I think that is a stain
- 49:25Speaker 2: where a lot of these beat writers are the ones
- 49:27Speaker 2: that are going to vote for him. There's gotta be
- 49:29Speaker 2: more to it there. There has to be so much
- 49:31Speaker 2: to it where Aaron Rodgers left Green Bay. If you
- 49:34Speaker 2: heard a peep at a Green Bay shitting on Aaron
- 49:36Speaker 2: Rodgers chat, no, I had not really like it. That's
- 49:41Speaker 2: kind of how it is, where it's like, yeah, Aaron
- 49:43Speaker 2: Rodgers might have been an asshole, he might have been
- 49:45Speaker 2: full of himself, but he was never above the team,
- 49:48Speaker 2: and it seems like Russell Wilson towards the end there
- 49:49Speaker 2: thought he was above the team, right, You really really
- 49:52Speaker 2: let his ego get to himself. So if he can have,
- 49:57Speaker 2: you know, another good run like kur Warner had that
- 50:00Speaker 2: one more run with that Arizona team, if he can
- 50:03Speaker 2: find something like that with Denver, I do think he'd
- 50:06Speaker 2: get into the Hall of Fame. If he doesn't, I'm
- 50:08Speaker 2: with Freeman, like the guy never finished Top three and
- 50:10Speaker 2: MVP voting his entire career. Again, I give him so
- 50:14Speaker 2: much respect because he was a fifth year player in
- 50:16Speaker 2: college and he came out whatever, he was a third
- 50:18Speaker 2: fourth round pick, and he was just incredible. Like his
- 50:21Speaker 2: skill set was so revolutionary for what we've seen now
- 50:25Speaker 2: in football, right that quarterback of get them outside the pocket,
- 50:28Speaker 2: let them create with either their legs or taking the
- 50:30Speaker 2: ball deep. It was just a big transition of football.
- 50:33Speaker 2: So I do think for football he was a big
- 50:35Speaker 2: deal because he's kind of set the stage here for
- 50:37Speaker 2: all these guys Lamar Jackson's of the world. Again, people
- 50:41Speaker 2: want to credit them like vic Vick really never did
- 50:43Speaker 2: much with his town when Russell Wilson did, so I
- 50:45Speaker 2: think he was an opening to what we see now
- 50:48Speaker 2: in the NFL, Like he changed football for the better.
- 50:50Speaker 2: But a Hall of Famer, Chad, that's just such a
- 50:53Speaker 2: big ask for Well, we talk all the time, this
- 50:55Speaker 2: is the golden era of quarterbacks, Like, there's just so
- 50:57Speaker 2: many better quarterbacks over these last twenty years. So I
- 51:01Speaker 2: can't put him in. It hurts the said, I just
- 51:03Speaker 2: can't put him in at this point. But if he
- 51:04Speaker 2: makes another run, doesn't he need to win Super Bowl?
- 51:06Speaker 2: Just get back there. I gotta give it to him
- 51:09Speaker 2: making three super Bowls in his career. He's obviously very
- 51:12Speaker 2: talented players, so he just needs to make one more run.
- 51:14Speaker 2: I can see him getting in the Hall of Fame.
- 51:16Speaker 1: Well, that's what I'm projecting, Like I'm projecting with Sean
- 51:19Speaker 1: Payton and a stellar defense, at some point in the
- 51:24Speaker 1: next two to three years, he makes that one final run.
- 51:26Speaker 2: Because that's it, right, we all agree that's the window.
- 51:28Speaker 2: Like he's got two or three years left and then
- 51:30Speaker 2: it's over.
- 51:31Speaker 1: Yeah, that's exactly you know what, Simon. As we know
- 51:34Speaker 1: and as people will hear on the podcast next week,
- 51:37Speaker 1: I can see into the future. My vision, my field
- 51:40Speaker 1: division is so big that I am willing to take
- 51:44Speaker 1: a risk and go out on a limb based on
- 51:46Speaker 1: what I am projecting, not just what I've seen in
- 51:49Speaker 1: the past.
- 51:50Speaker 2: He was more humble you are, Russell Wilson, mister unlimited.
- 51:55Speaker 1: See I was gonna go after Friedman and you came
- 51:57Speaker 1: after me. Listen last question. It's been discussed many times
- 52:06Speaker 1: in the podcast. My eating habits have been discussed. We
- 52:09Speaker 1: all know that I eat weird, old man bird foods.
- 52:12Speaker 1: Even my kids make fun of me for the bird
- 52:14Speaker 1: food that I eat. Simon eats like a normal thirty
- 52:17Speaker 1: something bachelor who lives as if he doesn't have a
- 52:20Speaker 1: care in the world. Any foods we both can enjoy,
- 52:23Speaker 1: and this is true. I will read to you a
- 52:28Speaker 1: Slack message I recently sent to Matt Mitchell of what
- 52:30Speaker 1: I would need in my rider when we do our
- 52:33Speaker 1: live event in New Jersey the first Sunday of NFL season.
- 52:37Speaker 1: I need unsalted roasted cashews, lesser evil popcorns. I like
- 52:41Speaker 1: it cooked in the coconut oil, not the seed oil.
- 52:43Speaker 1: All natural peanut butter, honey, crisp apples, burl app and
- 52:47Speaker 1: barrel cinnamon. It's a very specific cinnamon. I need oranges.
- 52:51Speaker 1: I need classe, azuol tequila, the big ice cubes, eighty
- 52:55Speaker 1: five percent cacao, chocolate bars, Perrier or Pellegrinos bar, loose leaf,
- 53:01Speaker 1: earl gray tea if it's afternoon, Illy espresso if it's
- 53:05Speaker 1: before noon, along with the espresso maker or teapot whatever.
- 53:09Speaker 1: I need some jigante beans in a light tomato sauce
- 53:12Speaker 1: for a snack. I also like France a Franchi della
- 53:16Speaker 1: cat olive oil. Simon, you can pick anything from that menu.
- 53:21Speaker 2: I got to be left off Chad. It popped in
- 53:23Speaker 2: my head, what one thing we love together? We both
- 53:26Speaker 2: love chocolate. I love chocolate, and I send my guy here, Chad,
- 53:30Speaker 2: the best chocolate in your Charlotte's chocolate. I think Chad
- 53:34Speaker 2: ate the whole bag in one.
- 53:35Speaker 1: Night, which by myself blew my mind.
- 53:37Speaker 2: So I would say, chocolate pretzels. Me and Chad see
- 53:40Speaker 2: eye to eye and chocolate pretzels. We could.
- 53:42Speaker 1: We could definitely do that, Friedman. Can we see eye
- 53:46Speaker 1: to eye on anything? We can't? Usually?
- 53:49Speaker 4: I mean, I guess who says no to chocolate, big
- 53:53Speaker 4: ice cubes, honey, Chris bathols. That's good, those are good,
- 53:57Speaker 4: But like, where's the Where's the beef, you know, like,
- 54:00Speaker 4: put some meat in there. Get some meat.
- 54:03Speaker 1: Are you kids?
- 54:04Speaker 2: This guy? I think he eats meat.
- 54:06Speaker 1: I don't eat if What is the matter with you?
- 54:10Speaker 1: I'm saving the environment. Every day someone doesn't eat meat
- 54:15Speaker 1: is a better day for the world.
- 54:17Speaker 2: I'm literally gonna be dead in ten years. I eat
- 54:19Speaker 2: bacon like every day, which is apparently the worst thing
- 54:21Speaker 2: you can eat.
- 54:22Speaker 1: But you know what the difference is, I eat like
- 54:25Speaker 1: I want to be superhuman and live forever. You're microdosin
- 54:29Speaker 1: getting high and eating bacon. Guess who's going to live
- 54:32Speaker 1: to a riper old age.
- 54:34Speaker 2: Probably I got twenty years on you.
- 54:36Speaker 1: Exactly what I'm saying, all right. As a reminder, the
