- 0:29Speaker 1: How you doing this morning?
- 0:31Speaker 2: Hey, Sean, I'm good. How are you?
- 0:32Speaker 1: I'm doing really good. Great to have you on the show,
- 0:35Speaker 1: folks haven't had a chance. I think it's your first
- 0:37Speaker 1: time joining us. Let's talk real quick, Chase about your background.
- 0:41Speaker 1: You're You're a local boy, aren't you.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Yeah, that's right, Sean. So I grew up in Deerfield,
- 0:46Speaker 2: so small town Deerfield, live there for the most part
- 0:49Speaker 2: of my life, and now I'm in Madison, the great
- 0:52Speaker 2: city Madison, which I love, spending time around the lakes
- 0:56Speaker 2: and just spending time outside with my dog.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Fantastic. Are you bad your fan? Yes?
- 1:01Speaker 2: I am, yes, So I've actually I've had the chance
- 1:03Speaker 2: to go to quite a few bad your fans. My
- 1:05Speaker 2: my family has had season tickets for quite some time,
- 1:08Speaker 2: so anytime we have home games, I I always look
- 1:11Speaker 2: forward to getting out there.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Have you ever got an extra ticket? I know a
- 1:13Speaker 1: guy Jase. Let's uh, let's talk a little bit about
- 1:18Speaker 1: so next Door and Window. I know folks have had
- 1:20Speaker 1: a chance and we've talked with some other folks on
- 1:23Speaker 1: your team in the past about next Door and Window.
- 1:26Speaker 1: I want to talk a little bit about your experience.
- 1:28Speaker 1: What kind of brought you to next Door and Window
- 1:30Speaker 1: and what do you really love about what you do?
- 1:33Speaker 2: Yeah, so that's a great question, Sean. So I actually
- 1:36Speaker 2: had some background in the remodeling area. I worked with
- 1:40Speaker 2: another company in the area here specializing in windows. I
- 1:44Speaker 2: really do love what I do and being able to
- 1:47Speaker 2: help customers out just creating a custom solution and helping
- 1:51Speaker 2: create creating a solution to the problem that customer is having,
- 1:55Speaker 2: whether that's you know, air infiltration, water infiltrations, just looking
- 1:59Speaker 2: for a good update. So the then lucky enough to
- 2:03Speaker 2: work with next Door and Window for some time now,
- 2:06Speaker 2: and it's been a great fit for me just being
- 2:09Speaker 2: that CEO owned company. Nothing but good things to say
- 2:13Speaker 2: about the company overall so.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Far, fantastic. Talking this morning with Chase Kouba's he is
- 2:17Speaker 1: with next Door and Window. He's a design and energy expert.
- 2:20Speaker 1: And Chase, you mentioned working with people to find that
- 2:24Speaker 1: custom solution. And one of the funny things is you
- 2:27Speaker 1: buy a car, you know, if you buy you know,
- 2:29Speaker 1: a Ford F one fifty from one dealer to another dealer,
- 2:32Speaker 1: they're all gonna be the same. You need to get
- 2:34Speaker 1: a new window replaced in your Forward f one fifty.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Guess what, you can go online or the shop can
- 2:38Speaker 1: go online. They order you that window. It's gonna fit.
- 2:41Speaker 1: They're all the same. It's perfect houses, even houses that
- 2:44Speaker 1: are built by the same builder, even houses that are
- 2:46Speaker 1: right next door to each other, they're all a little
- 2:50Speaker 1: bit different. Even within the house, they're a little bit different.
- 2:52Speaker 1: That custom solution part that that is something that I
- 2:55Speaker 1: you know, we talk about. You know what what makes
- 2:58Speaker 1: what you do, Chase so special? Having those custom solutions
- 3:01Speaker 1: to everybody's you know, very unique issue and very unique home.
- 3:05Speaker 1: That's a big deal.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Yeah, No, it really is, Sean, And it all starts
- 3:09Speaker 2: with that in home consultation, right, really really finding what
- 3:13Speaker 2: that problem is that the customers having. So that's the
- 3:16Speaker 2: part of the inspection that I do in the home,
- 3:19Speaker 2: finding what that problem is and then being able to
- 3:21Speaker 2: create a solution to that problem right on the spot.
- 3:25Speaker 2: You know, at the end of the day, Sean, you
- 3:27Speaker 2: can buy the best window or door in the market.
- 3:29Speaker 2: If it's not installed correctly, it's not worth anything. A
- 3:32Speaker 2: lot of problems can stem from installation practices that aren't
- 3:36Speaker 2: done well. But something we do take a lot of
- 3:38Speaker 2: pride in that next Door and Window is the installation process,
- 3:42Speaker 2: and we really do take our time throughout that entire
- 3:45Speaker 2: process to ensure that these windows aren't going to give
- 3:48Speaker 2: you any problems stemming from that installation.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Talking this morning with Chase kubas he is with next
- 3:54Speaker 1: Door and Window the website next Door and Window dot com.
- 3:59Speaker 1: That's next Door and Window dot com. Tell what number
- 4:02Speaker 1: six oh eight three zero two thirty six thirty six.
- 4:05Speaker 1: That's six oh eight three zero two thirty six thirty six.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Great day to give them a call, have chasing the
- 4:11Speaker 1: folks come out, take a look at your home and
- 4:13Speaker 1: uh and talk about some of those solutions for you
- 4:15Speaker 1: and Chase, when you mentioned installation, it feels like a
- 4:18Speaker 1: lot of times with this stuff, it's the things that
- 4:21Speaker 1: you don't see that make a big difference. Maybe all
- 4:24Speaker 1: of the difference is you know, you see a window,
- 4:28Speaker 1: it's a new window, it's been installed, everything's perfect. But
- 4:31Speaker 1: if it wasn't installed correctly, or if the area around
- 4:34Speaker 1: that window, that casing and casement another that the area
- 4:37Speaker 1: around it hasn't been been done. Uh, you've just at
- 4:41Speaker 1: that point, you've got a nice looking window, but you're
- 4:43Speaker 1: not really getting the full benefit that attention to installation.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Is that something when when you're meeting with homeowners, you're
- 4:49Speaker 1: kind of looking at and kind of looking through to say, Okay,
- 4:52Speaker 1: this is this is your home, this is the age
- 4:53Speaker 1: of your home, this is the type of installation. Here's
- 4:56Speaker 1: how we're going to kind of not just what you see,
- 4:58Speaker 1: but we're also going to remedy issues that that you
- 5:00Speaker 1: don't see that actually do make a big difference.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Yeah, it's just that Sean, you know, twenty thirty years ago,
- 5:07Speaker 2: and especially with old homes that you have built fifty
- 5:10Speaker 2: years ago and greater than that, the same installation practices
- 5:14Speaker 2: we use today just simply weren't used that And that
- 5:16Speaker 2: includes the building materials too. What we can really do
- 5:20Speaker 2: to ensure a proper installation is by doing a full
- 5:23Speaker 2: frame installation. There is the option of going with the
- 5:26Speaker 2: insert installation. I like to call it a quick fix, right,
- 5:29Speaker 2: we're not really getting to the root of that problem
- 5:31Speaker 2: because we're essentially just replacing your sashes. We're putting a
- 5:35Speaker 2: frame inside of a frame with that insert installation and
- 5:38Speaker 2: just replacing those sashes, Whereas with the full frame installation,
- 5:41Speaker 2: we're taking out that window all the way down to
- 5:44Speaker 2: the rough opening, and we'll do a full inspection to
- 5:46Speaker 2: make sure. If we do find any rot on that
- 5:48Speaker 2: top two by forced stud we're gonna go ahead and
- 5:51Speaker 2: just replace that sill, just so we don't put a
- 5:53Speaker 2: new window on top of any existing rot. Then from there,
- 5:57Speaker 2: a huge part of this installation process is making sure
- 6:00Speaker 2: we're protecting the customer against any water infiltration. How we
- 6:04Speaker 2: do so is we take flashing tape, ice and water
- 6:06Speaker 2: shield along the bottom and up the sides. It's creat
- 6:09Speaker 2: a nice tight seal against any water infiltration. We set
- 6:12Speaker 2: the new unit in there, and we want to make
- 6:14Speaker 2: sure this window is completely square level and plump for
- 6:16Speaker 2: easy operation for the customer. And then from there, once
- 6:19Speaker 2: we have the window all shimmed, low expanding polyer thane
- 6:22Speaker 2: foam in that window gap just ensure a nice air
- 6:26Speaker 2: tight seal. And then the finishing touches with the interior trim,
- 6:30Speaker 2: nice brand new stained or painted trim that will be
- 6:33Speaker 2: done in our warehouse. Make sure there's no odors left
- 6:36Speaker 2: in the home and exterior. We're going to go heading
- 6:38Speaker 2: cap all the way around that window again to protect
- 6:41Speaker 2: against any water infiltration or air infiltration. So we do
- 6:45Speaker 2: take a lot of steps to protect the customer from
- 6:48Speaker 2: most elements, and we know in Wisconsin we get those
- 6:50Speaker 2: crazy elements.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Be sure, Jason. One of the things I've loved and
- 6:54Speaker 1: getting the chance of talking with you and Joe and
- 6:56Speaker 1: a mirror and you know that education. And I think
- 6:59Speaker 1: as as a homeowner, there's a lot of things we
- 7:02Speaker 1: don't know if done right. Windows are one of those
- 7:04Speaker 1: things that you know you'll maybe have replaced once or
- 7:08Speaker 1: twice in the lifetime of your home if done right.
- 7:11Speaker 1: And I think for a lot of folks, as you
- 7:13Speaker 1: pointed out, things have advanced quite drastically over the years,
- 7:16Speaker 1: and what you guys are doing at nextdoor and window
- 7:19Speaker 1: is pretty amazing. I've got a bet, and I don't
- 7:22Speaker 1: want to put words in your mouth, but probably one
- 7:24Speaker 1: of the great things too about your job is getting
- 7:26Speaker 1: a chance to talk with people and kind of give
- 7:28Speaker 1: them that education of hey, look at this is. You know,
- 7:31Speaker 1: these windows may just be ten, fifteen, twenty years old,
- 7:35Speaker 1: but guess what since these windows were installed, we've done
- 7:39Speaker 1: amazing things with science technology understanding better ways to install.
- 7:44Speaker 1: That Education's got to be a great value as well
- 7:46Speaker 1: to the homeowner.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Yeah, that's exactly right, Sean. That's definitely one of my
- 7:50Speaker 2: favorite parts about the entire process is just being able
- 7:53Speaker 2: to provide the knowledge to that customer. You know, ten
- 7:56Speaker 2: years ago, I didn't know anything about windows. I saw
- 7:59Speaker 2: a window and there it is. You know what's beneath
- 8:02Speaker 2: that window? I never even thought about that. So just
- 8:04Speaker 2: providing that knowledge to the customer about the newer technology
- 8:07Speaker 2: that comes along with different materials that the frame is
- 8:10Speaker 2: made out of, like the Infinity window with that fiberglass material,
- 8:14Speaker 2: and how it just performs so much differently than some
- 8:17Speaker 2: of these other materials out there, and especially along with
- 8:20Speaker 2: the glass, there's just newer technology and glass today that
- 8:23Speaker 2: is significantly more energy efficient than the older technology fifteen
- 8:28Speaker 2: twenty years ago. So just being able to provide that
- 8:31Speaker 2: knowledge and answer all those questions is just a great
- 8:34Speaker 2: part of the entire process.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Let's talk about those those Marvin windows that the fiberglass
- 8:39Speaker 1: in the frame there. Obviously, you a Wisconsin guy, you've
- 8:43Speaker 1: experienced it. Most folks listening to us, we've had bitterly,
- 8:47Speaker 1: bitterly cold winters and hot humid summers and springs and
- 8:52Speaker 1: falls with you know, torrential rain, and you know our
- 8:56Speaker 1: our houses, our windows, I mean they take a beating.
- 8:59Speaker 1: One of the cool things about Marvin and you mentioned,
- 9:02Speaker 1: you know some of the products that you guys are
- 9:04Speaker 1: installing at next door and window. These are products that
- 9:07Speaker 1: are built for extremes, which is just the thing we
- 9:11Speaker 1: need for folks here in Wisconsin, isn't it.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Yeah exactly, And yeah, to talk about that infinity from
- 9:18Speaker 2: Marvin window, it's a pull truded fiberglass window. So when
- 9:21Speaker 2: we talk about fiberglass, we know a lot of things
- 9:24Speaker 2: that need to be really strong and durable made out
- 9:26Speaker 2: of fiberglass. Airplanes, so things that need to be durable,
- 9:30Speaker 2: water resistant, and they're just going to hold up to
- 9:32Speaker 2: the harsh elements that we do get so talking about fiberglass.
- 9:37Speaker 2: A really nice thing with fiberglass, knowing it's a naturally
- 9:40Speaker 2: strong material, is we can give you really narrow frames
- 9:43Speaker 2: all the way around that entire opening. The whole idea
- 9:46Speaker 2: of a window to be able to have the most
- 9:48Speaker 2: glass as possible have a really nice viewing picture looking outside.
- 9:53Speaker 2: So that's something we can maintain with the fiberglass window.
- 9:56Speaker 2: Give me those narrow frames, but also we get away
- 9:59Speaker 2: from that expace contraction. Expansion contraction is a really negative
- 10:03Speaker 2: aspect that we see with a lot of windows. Expanding
- 10:07Speaker 2: and contracting is going to warp that window. It's not
- 10:10Speaker 2: staying true it's shape. So now we lose the operation
- 10:13Speaker 2: that was originally there when the window was installed. So
- 10:17Speaker 2: a lot of products out there, different materials like final,
- 10:20Speaker 2: you're gonna see that expansion and contraction, and now we
- 10:23Speaker 2: lose that operation and we lose the energy efficiency that
- 10:26Speaker 2: steal it comes along with it. The best thing about
- 10:29Speaker 2: these infinity windows is they're just built to last. They're
- 10:32Speaker 2: built with families, Wisconsin elements, rain, winds, snow, They're gonna
- 10:37Speaker 2: last you a long lifetime, and the warrantyers are there
- 10:40Speaker 2: to back it up. The lifetime warranties and then that
- 10:43Speaker 2: tenure workmanship and labor warranty from next Door on Window.
- 10:47Speaker 1: Fantastic of a great way to connect with the outdoors
- 10:49Speaker 1: comfort efficiency. Today is today, pick up phone, give chasing
