- 0:05Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:09access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing genuine
- 0:13issues. Brought to you by the
- 0:14hypnotherapist, Demanded by celebrities, CEOs and even
- 0:18royalty. Adam Cox.
- 0:20These recordings took place live from Evans Clinic in London's
- 0:24world famous Harley Street, so get yourself comfortable and
- 0:31enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:38Hi, it's Adam here. You're about to listen to a
- 0:40hypnosis session all about breaking an addiction by
- 0:44shifting an identity and a lot of people links and habits to
- 0:50the identity level. So if you think of alcohol and
- 0:53cigarettes, people might think of themselves as a as a drinker
- 0:57or as a smoker. And drug use tends to be adopted
- 1:01at the identity level. It forms part of who they
- 1:04consider themselves to be. But that can carry consequences,
- 1:08health consequences, financial consequences, even legal
- 1:11consequences, depending on what the substances and where in the
- 1:14world you might be taking it. So I was working with a client
- 1:17that had had some near misses, had certain things that really
- 1:22felt that they didn't want any more.
- 1:24And that was things about the level of use, how they're using
- 1:27it and particularly where they were using it.
- 1:30So this session is about two things.
- 1:33Firstly, regression, going back to a time where they had certain
- 1:37things that really were part of their identity, and then they
- 1:40shifted beyond that just because they moved on.
- 1:44And that was related to taking a substance, but also how they
- 1:47came across how they actually kind of presented themselves.
- 1:50So it starts with evidence that their identity can change and
- 1:54does change, and then it goes forward to two different
- 1:58timelines, a timeline of the consequences if they stay the
- 2:02same and a different timeline if they adopt A more healthy
- 2:08identity. And this particular client said,
- 2:11well, if they were to replace the substances that they were
- 2:14taking with something else that would be more positive.
- 2:16It would be things like exercise, fitness, eating well,
- 2:20that kind of stuff. So that's why that identity is
- 2:24the replacement so that they can experience what it would be like
- 2:28if they stay the same, but also what it would be like if they
- 2:32carried on their future with a slightly altered identity to
- 2:36take from this element of recklessness.
- 2:41And, you know, carrying risks with an element of discernment
- 2:45so that they only do certain things if if they feel that the
- 2:50risk reward ratio, which is more investment language, but it can
- 2:53apply to other things, is worth. It because.
- 2:57Otherwise, if you're carrying a lot of risk and there isn't much
- 3:01upside, then you increase the probability of an undesirable
- 3:05outcome happening. So if you are a user of
- 3:09substance and you feel like to carry on could actually be
- 3:14either reckless or have some kind of consequence for you, and
- 3:18you'd like to change that, this session might be really useful.
- 3:21Just be aware that the the session itself was created for a
- 3:25specific individual with very specific circumstances.
- 3:29Therefore, this session may have suggestions which aren't quite
- 3:32right for you. So just ignore any suggestions
- 3:35that aren't quite right. Hone into the ones that feel
- 3:37empowering for you. And if you like the idea of
- 3:40working with me directly, there will be a link in the
- 3:43description where you can schedule a free consultation
- 3:45call and then we can explore working together.
- 3:48So I'm your hypnotherapist, helping you specifically.
- 3:51For now, though, this session, even though it was recorded for
- 3:54someone else, may be useful for you.
- 3:56So find a quiet, comfortable place where you won't be.
- 3:59Disturbed. Relax.
- 4:00And enjoy the session. Take a deep breath in as you
- 4:29breathe in, breathe in and resourceful feeling of calm and
- 4:35relaxation. And as you exhale, just release
- 4:42any tension in your eyelids. And as you exhale, feel any
- 4:50tension, any frustration. You're feeling like it's leaving
- 4:54your body there in the outward breath, breathing in relaxation
- 5:05and exhaling tension. Each breath takes you deeper and
- 5:16deeper, relaxed. And I want you to scan your body
- 5:24for any clues of tension, restlessness, or stress.
- 5:32And as you breathe in, I want you to imagine you're breathing
- 5:36in the most concentrated and distilled version of
- 5:44resourcefulness. Not synthetic, not artificial,
- 5:51something real. Imagine it as a colour and
- 5:57you're breathing in that resourceful feeling of
- 6:00relaxation. Imagine that colour going in
- 6:04through your nose into your lungs, and imagine your heart
- 6:09distributing that really resourceful feeling to every
- 6:15cell in your body. And then imagine that any
- 6:20tension, any worries, any stress is melting away and then leaving
- 6:30your body like a dark cloud as you breathe out.
- 6:38Breathing in the resources you need and exhaling any
- 6:44limitations, any dependencies, any reliance.
- 6:52Just allow that to leave your body as you exhale.
- 6:59That's right, breathing in and breathing out.
- 7:02And the deeper you breathe, the more relaxed you feel.
- 7:09And the more relaxed you feel, the deeper you breathe.
- 7:15Each breath takes you deeper and more relaxed than the last.
- 7:21And as your physical body relaxes, your imagination
- 7:27awakens. And I wonder if you can imagine
- 7:33a place outside by a pool near an olive tree, seeing the blue
- 7:42in the sky and just the occasional white fluffy cloud
- 7:47floating by. And I want you to get a feeling
- 7:54that a white fluffy cloud can be like a thought, even a craving,
- 8:04that if you just allow it and don't need to respond to it, it
- 8:11will just float on by. And then if another cloud comes
- 8:18along, there's nothing you need to do.
- 8:23You can just allow it to continue floating.
- 8:27And in the past, these clouds were like triggers.
- 8:37Certain people, certain places, even certain times of the day
- 8:46gave you a feeling that you had to do something.
- 8:52And every time you did, you created a link between a
- 8:57thought, a feeling, and an action.
- 9:03But it is possible to think something, to feel something,
- 9:10and not need to do anything at all as soon as you imagine.
- 9:18Perhaps a lounger, perhaps even something comfortable, maybe an
- 9:30inflatable just floating on a pool.
- 9:34Imagine looking up at the sky, feeling the warmth of the sun on
- 9:39your skin. But feeling completely relaxed,
- 9:47aligned that everything you need to do is nothing at all.
- 9:57As I countdown from 5 to 1, I want you to imagine releasing
- 10:02all the tension in every muscle and imagine what it would feel
- 10:06like to drift off into a dreamlike sleep there, looking
- 10:13up at the sky. 5 releasing all the tension around the face,
- 10:23your jaw, even the tiny, tiny muscles at the back of your
- 10:29neck. That's it.
- 10:32And then four. Focus now on your shoulders,
- 10:40breathing and relaxation, exhaling tension.
- 10:45Just allow all of that to melt away.
- 10:51And then three, just focus on your arms and your legs and
- 10:56imagine what they would feel like if they were limp and loose
- 11:01and completely relaxed just there by your side, just like
- 11:10the limbs of a puppet with no strings.
- 11:14And then two, focus on your internal organs, but
- 11:17particularly the area in your chest.
- 11:22Imagine how that would feel to release any and all tension.
- 11:30But also imagine your heart relaxing, your stomach relaxing,
- 11:35even your lungs relaxing. That's it.
- 11:40And then one just imagine a ripple of relaxation from the
- 11:45tips of your toes to the top of your head and then all the way
- 11:49down to your fingertips as you imagine what it would feel like
- 11:53to drift into that dream. Like sleep.
- 11:58And you've had dreams of going back to the past, and you've had
- 12:03dreams of exploring a future. And I wonder, in this dreamlike
- 12:15state, if you could imagine floating up out of your body and
- 12:21visiting the past from a new perspective.
- 12:27I want you to go back to a moment where part of who you are
- 12:33at your core changed. You never used to dress or be a
- 12:40certain way, and then one day you realized that you didn't
- 12:48need to do that to be who you really are.
- 12:56And I want you to observe what you were like before, how much
- 13:01time and effort was invested, be what you thought was aligned
- 13:07with your identity. And then one day something
- 13:14changed. And you didn't need to be like
- 13:17that to still be aligned with an identity.
- 13:24It just naturally evolved. You grew out of one thing and
- 13:30linked into something else. And I want you to see how that
- 13:36process unfolded. Maybe all it was was a
- 13:41realization, some thought that says I don't need to be like
- 13:51this. I can be who I want to be.
- 13:59And once you can observe that transition from one identity to
- 14:05another, let me know by nodding your head.
- 14:16That's it. And I want you to really connect
- 14:22with the idea that you are not static, You're not forced to be
- 14:29exactly the same way for your entire life.
- 14:34That it's natural to learn from experience, to make new
- 14:39evaluations, and to change subtly, sometimes profoundly, in
- 14:47positive new ways, and then go to a different point in time.
- 14:55I want you to see the days leading up to a major health
- 15:00scare. I want you to see then there was
- 15:05a time that you associated into positive feelings and
- 15:15disregarded consequences. Maybe think of a time when you
- 15:20were reckless. Intellectually, you may have
- 15:25known about some risks, but emotionally you didn't care
- 15:33until one day something changed. But I want you to observe what
- 15:40happened in the same way that someone else there would have
- 15:45observed it. And I want you to see the
- 15:52reactions of people's faces, the worry, the concern, the care.
- 16:00And I want you to see that at that point happened, something
- 16:07shifted, a new evaluation took place.
- 16:15Something along the lines of it's not worth the risk.
- 16:22Maybe parameters changed, frequency of use, quantity of
- 16:28use? Something changed, and when it
- 16:33changed, you didn't need willpower because the
- 16:39association of that thing had changed.
- 16:44What once was wonderful then became a bit gross.
- 16:52And when that shift happened, notice how more discerning you
- 16:57were. Instead of a regular user, you
- 17:03became incredibly discerning only in specific situations.
- 17:11And maybe there was other things like that.
- 17:14Something used to do a lot in your 20s, whereas now you might
- 17:21pick your battles. And what if this is wisdom?
- 17:29Discernment? What if this is maturing?
- 17:34What if this is not being boring, but being distinguished?
- 17:44I want you to think that some things might be appealing only
- 17:50if they're done sparingly. That if something is done every
- 17:55day, it can lose its appeal because it becomes mundane,
- 18:02predictable. That overuse is itself boring.
- 18:13And as you look at the past from this new perspective, you can
- 18:19extract the wisdom that sometimes changing standards,
- 18:27something you used to do regularly that then becomes
- 18:30infrequent, or something that you used to do, you're not
- 18:34willing to do at all. I want you to imagine what it
- 18:39would be like to have an iron clad boundary, not a rule.
- 18:48You're not forced to. It's a line you're choosing not
- 18:52to cross because it doesn't fit with who you are.
- 18:58And I want you to imagine standing in front of two
- 19:03different doors. Each door represents a different
- 19:07future, a different identity to experience that future.
- 19:15The door on the left is carrying on as you are, and the door on
- 19:20the right is a slightly evolved, enhanced identity of you.
- 19:28But let's experience carrying on the current path first.
- 19:34When you can imagine standing in front of that first door, let me
- 19:39know by nodding your head. And this first door, we can call
- 19:51it business as usual, but I want you to be the observer as you
- 20:00walk through the door, take on a third person perspective.
- 20:05And I want you to see yourself using certain substances at the
- 20:11same frequency that you currently do certain parties.
- 20:17You see yourself using certain situations and places in the
- 20:22world where availability is more.
- 20:28But I want you to see that certain things that you're
- 20:32doing, you're not doing for fun or excitement or adventure.
- 20:40Some of the things that just being trapped in a loop, doing
- 20:45what's familiar. But I want you to observe all of
- 20:49the things that seem to have a new meaning now.
- 20:56I want you to see yourself frustrated at losing a game and
- 21:02then feeling like you need something.
- 21:06You'll see yourself caught almost in a predictable loop.
- 21:14Certain rooms, checking a phone, doing something just repeats and
- 21:22repeats like someone's trapped in a moment.
- 21:29And I want you to see that when you do certain things, it
- 21:33amplifies the probability of doing other things that aren't
- 21:36healthy or carry risk. Maybe you see yourself smoking
- 21:42more, drinking more, using more, but from this third party
- 21:49perspective, like you're looking at yourself like a stranger, I
- 21:56want you to see that version of you that's used up their luck.
- 22:05How much luck can any one person have?
- 22:10How many near misses until the near miss isn't a near miss,
- 22:14it's a full on collision. How many wake up calls are
- 22:20needed until you actually wake up that new identity?
- 22:29How many lucky escapes until you don't get to escape?
- 22:37And I want you to imagine following that timeline to a
- 22:40future where you're not so lucky anymore.
- 22:47Maybe it's a random stop, some kind of a test to check and
- 22:53maybe where you're living in the world, you're not lucky as to
- 22:59the rules. I want you to imagine in that
- 23:06timeline, not a guarantee, just a possibility that your
- 23:12livelihood and your liberty is taken from you.
- 23:19I want you to see that you're treated very harshly, and maybe
- 23:24it's months, maybe even a year or more.
- 23:28I want you to see the toll that it takes on that version of you
- 23:35because sometimes when people find themselves in a particular
- 23:38place, they don't get to avoid trouble.
- 23:43Trouble finds them. I want you to see that sometimes
- 23:53life can be like a House of Cards, just one unfortunate
- 23:58thing, then causes another unfortunate thing, and then
- 24:03something else. And I want you to imagine
- 24:07observing the impact on the people you care for and love the
- 24:12most. Maybe people that rely on you,
- 24:16depend on you need you. Just observe as that person with
- 24:24limited options maybe can't help the people they used to and
- 24:33maybe that leads to further consequences, undesirable
- 24:38consequences. And this is just your
- 24:42imagination. But what if you consider a worst
- 24:47case scenario, the worst thing that could happen and yet could
- 24:54be avoided? Allow your imagination to do the
- 25:02hard work for you. These are already your fears,
- 25:07your worries, your concerns. They've always been there, even
- 25:11if you tried to bury them. And sometimes that's what a
- 25:19worry is for Just think of something you don't want in the
- 25:23future, so you get to avoid it. And when you can think of that
- 25:29horrible thing in the future, let me know about nodding your
- 25:31head. But I want you to imagine you
- 25:39yourself now visiting that version of you, telling them
- 25:45that this can all be avoided. Give them some wisdom, some
- 25:50advice, or perhaps a new identity.
- 25:56Maybe it's something as simple as trading in the gratification
- 26:01from a substance, from the real sense of pride, accomplishment,
- 26:07and energy that comes from a new level of health, fitness, and
- 26:13well-being in that horrible place.
- 26:18If they could go back in time and change things, wouldn't
- 26:22they? But before we leave this place,
- 26:26step into that future version of you experiencing that horrible
- 26:33future and feel that the desire to change is stronger than any
- 26:41desire to continue. And when you reach that place
- 26:47where this isn't just worth it anymore and you do anything to
- 26:53change, let me know about nodding your head.
- 27:02So imagine everything happens in reverse.
- 27:05Everything up to that point happens backwards until you find
- 27:09yourself walking through that door in reverse.
- 27:14But there is a new door. I want you to see a slightly
- 27:20different version of you standing in front of that door,
- 27:24looking lean, athletic, healthy. This version of you is still
- 27:32you. It's just a version of you that
- 27:35prioritizes your health and well-being.
- 27:40What if that version of you is addicted to healthy, nutritious
- 27:44food, physical activity, the dopamine you get from winning or
- 27:52accomplishing or new personal bests, rather than the dopamine
- 27:59you get from a substance? And when you're ready, step into
- 28:07that identity in the same way that you move from one version
- 28:15of you to someone else. This is no different.
- 28:18Imagine being that version of you lives, lives for living some
- 28:31of those feelings you've experienced in the path of
- 28:36energy vitality. What if that was because you
- 28:42value energy, vitality, Focus? But if you can get that in a new
- 28:48way, What if stimulation comes from experiences and not
- 28:52substances? And as you step into that
- 28:56identity, walk through the door and imagine what it would be
- 29:00like to just feel that you've changed.
- 29:08But you changing doesn't require that everyone around you
- 29:11changes. You can imagine being at a
- 29:15party, other people are doing things, but it seems to have a
- 29:21new connotation now. You might feel empathy,
- 29:25sympathy, or just observe things that you used to enjoy is a bit
- 29:30gross, a bit disgusting. And I want you to frame that
- 29:39this isn't boring. This isn't missing out on fun,
- 29:45this is living life to a new level of discernment, of being
- 29:51distinguished and connecting with this evolved version of
- 29:57you. And I want you to feel what it
- 30:01would feel like to feel. Then you can exercise more, eat
- 30:08better, and social situations. I want you to feel that
- 30:15discernment is more important than willpower, that there's
- 30:22certain things you just don't want to do anymore because it's
- 30:26not you. And I want you to imagine being
- 30:30in places where you're being offered certain things and just
- 30:34feel how proud you feel when you can say no thanks, that's not
- 30:42me. And feel like it's 100% true to
- 30:48connect to a new evolved identity.
- 30:53And maybe you leave early from certain places, not with a sense
- 30:58of missing out, but a sense of being proud of yourself.
- 31:05Proud that you're avoiding recklessness and risk.
- 31:11This isn't a sacrifice. This, this feels like duty,
- 31:18honour, discernment. This feels like evolution.
- 31:24And I want you to imagine following that timeline, having
- 31:32the option without the obligation to occasionally do
- 31:36some things you used to do, but only and that risk reward ratio
- 31:44seems like it makes sense. I want you to get a feeling that
- 31:52when you cross the road, you look to see if any cars are
- 31:55coming. But if you cross the road with
- 31:58your eyes closed, sooner or later you're going to get hit by
- 32:03a car. And if you are discerning when
- 32:06you cross the road, you can be discerning with other things
- 32:10too. To just feel how it would feel.
- 32:15Not to play that game of whack A mole, but to only do things if
- 32:25it really makes sense. To be free of a time loop, to be
- 32:28free of a prison. To be free of the grossness.
- 32:35And if this identity feels more appealing than anything else,
- 32:41let me know by nodding your head.
- 32:50And now it's time. It's time to leave this future
- 32:55knowing that you now have a choice to be the identity that
- 33:03you've been carrying on, full of those lucky escapes and near
- 33:07misses. Or a new identity where you
- 33:13mitigate those risks but have a new quality of life that comes
- 33:18from something else. Good food, good exercise,
- 33:24activities and accomplishments. Knowing that you can be proud of
- 33:31this version of you. So just imagine standing in
- 33:36front of those two doors with a new ethos.
- 33:44If you've already accepted this new identity, you would then
- 33:48have to choose the old one to go back to it.
- 33:51And all that risk and all of that grossness and all of that
- 34:05sniffling noses and all of that dependency.
- 34:16And if you get a sense that you just don't want that anymore
- 34:18because it isn't, you, let me know by nodding your head.
- 34:26And now you can float back back to that garden, the olive tree,
- 34:33the pool, the blue skies. But you float back at this new
- 34:38identity discernment and higher standards, and that can be
- 34:47boosted by willpower. But you don't need willpower for
- 34:51something that just isn't you anymore.
- 34:55It's time to return from that place to your current place
- 35:00again, taking all of this new identity with you.
- 35:05Take a deep breath in through your nose and out through your
- 35:09nose. Just wiggle your fingers and
- 35:11wiggle your toes. Connect and calibrate into the
- 35:16here and the now as I now count from 1:00 to 10:00 to awaken
