- 1:24Speaker 4: with us.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Yes, yes, thank you, thank you.
- 1:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:29Speaker 2: I am I am forty nine years old today nine
- 1:35Speaker 2: and I and I feel like I have the phaige.
- 1:38Speaker 4: That's the truck. He ever asks me, what's what I do?
- 1:42Speaker 2: I have the I need some click on DNA. Like now,
- 1:48Speaker 2: every morning I wake up and I say which which
- 1:50Speaker 2: d hurts today? Which elbow hurts today? So yeah, that's
- 1:56Speaker 2: that's forty nine. Forty nine's cool. My wife is. I
- 2:01Speaker 2: am one year, one month, and one day older than
- 2:06Speaker 2: my wife, so there's a one month period between now
- 2:09Speaker 2: and her birthday where she's like, yeah, well you're two
- 2:13Speaker 2: years older than me.
- 2:14Speaker 4: No, no, I'm not.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Mathematically you sort of, but yeah.
- 2:21Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:23Speaker 5: My brother and I are like ten and a half
- 2:25Speaker 5: months apart, so there's six weeks for the same age.
- 2:29Speaker 5: And for those listening, I know, you guys know, but
- 2:32Speaker 5: they don't know. My brother has down cinemaon autism. So
- 2:37Speaker 5: for those six weeks, my brother will look at me
- 2:39Speaker 5: and say you and me saying, I know, listen to you.
- 2:46Speaker 4: Yeah, that's great.
- 2:49Speaker 2: So that was my my I don't know if you
- 2:51Speaker 2: heard it. That was my text alert. It sounds like
- 2:53Speaker 2: the Enterprise D computer. All of my happy birthday text
- 2:58Speaker 2: messages are rolling in, so you'll hear that. You'll hear
- 3:01Speaker 2: that sound effect from time to time. Has not to
- 3:03Speaker 2: do with the show Get Confused. There's no there's no
- 3:06Speaker 2: bumper coming or anything. It's just it's just me getting well.
- 3:11Speaker 3: So it was. It was Valentine's Day yesterday and I
- 3:14Speaker 3: got to shore a couple of things that I got
- 3:15Speaker 3: from my my lovely wife this uh, this T shirt
- 3:20Speaker 3: that I'm wearing. It says resistance is futile and a
- 3:23Speaker 3: nice picture of lo cutest with a big heart, a
- 3:27Speaker 3: big heart yep, and uh, in fact, it looks like
- 3:30Speaker 3: I still got the tag. He's still on it. Uh.
- 3:33Speaker 3: Got me a little uh, little little posted sticker book.
- 3:37Speaker 3: I got a whole bunch of different posted stickers in
- 3:41Speaker 3: it of the next Nation crew and then a little uh,
- 3:45Speaker 3: a little little plaque I love you to the final
- 3:49Speaker 3: Frontier and back.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Oh I thought it says. Oh, I thought it said
- 3:53Speaker 2: you're the low cutest boy in class.
- 3:58Speaker 3: That would have been fun too. That was fun.
- 4:03Speaker 4: That's awesome.
- 4:04Speaker 3: So happy Valentine's date. Everybody who everyone who celebrats.
- 4:10Speaker 4: Awesome. Yuh. Do you get any big celebration plans today
- 4:15Speaker 4: for your birthday?
- 4:17Speaker 2: Well, my buddy Ryan, my buddy Ryan, he and I
- 4:20Speaker 2: have the same birthday, so we are going out to dinner,
- 4:25Speaker 2: me and him and our wives. Ah, going out to
- 4:28Speaker 2: dinner tonight. It's nice. You know, when you get older,
- 4:34Speaker 2: it's like going out with friends. It's like it's like
- 4:37Speaker 2: a big deal because it doesn't happen. You know, when
- 4:41Speaker 2: you got kids and jobs and mortages and all that stuff.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Hanging out with friends just doesn't doesn't happen as Allen,
- 4:48Speaker 2: So I'm really excited about seeing them.
- 4:52Speaker 4: So that's cool.
- 4:53Speaker 5: Yeah, A Tree says it should be the cutest inside
- 4:58Speaker 5: of a medical mechanical article.
- 5:00Speaker 3: Heart.
- 5:00Speaker 5: Yeah, since yeah, yeah, he did, he just did it.
- 5:06Speaker 4: Well actually on your Valentine's Day. Well actually actually mm hmm,
- 5:16Speaker 4: totally totally well cool.
- 5:19Speaker 5: Well, uh, you know, we should probably get to it
- 5:23Speaker 5: or no.
- 5:23Speaker 4: Dan wanted to talk about last week's episode real quick.
- 5:27Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, this is the new segment we do where
- 5:29Speaker 2: I where I digest the show for a full week.
- 5:31Speaker 3: We did three days like a like a bite.
- 5:36Speaker 2: Yeah, we need a bumper, We need to we need
- 5:37Speaker 2: to call.
- 5:38Speaker 3: It something like you know, yeah, the dad ships out.
- 5:40Speaker 3: Last week's episode.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Well it's been three days that this episode, so it's
- 5:44Speaker 2: ten days since the last one came out, and you know,
- 5:48Speaker 2: I just I think about stuff. And the whole episode
- 5:52Speaker 2: was about Sam learning about the legacy of Benjamin Cisco
- 5:58Speaker 2: right right, who spent years on Deep Space nine. He
- 6:03Speaker 2: had more involvement in the Federation's interactions in the Gamma
- 6:07Speaker 2: Quadrant than any other officer in start in Starfleet. I
- 6:11Speaker 2: don't think we could argue that, right, Yeah, yeah, first
- 6:16Speaker 2: contact with the Vlorida, for contact with the gem Hidar.
- 6:19Speaker 2: He pretty much won the Dominion war, yeah, which means
- 6:26Speaker 2: he freed the gem Hidar from slavery. Where was Where
- 6:32Speaker 2: was Laura Thock in that episode?
- 6:37Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 6:37Speaker 2: She she referred to herself a few episodes ago as
- 6:40Speaker 2: a freed jem Hidar. Yeah, okay. From from her perspective,
- 6:46Speaker 2: Ben Cisco should be like Abraham Lincoln and she wasn't
- 6:51Speaker 2: even in the episode.
- 6:53Speaker 3: That's a very good point. Yeah, that's a very good point.
- 6:57Speaker 4: That is a really good point.
- 6:59Speaker 2: So that's off my chest. Now we can move on now. Yeah,
- 7:05Speaker 2: as we do.
- 7:07Speaker 4: Oh, I'm sure we'll have other problems, but that's okay.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:11Speaker 3: I had a thought too, Yeah, you know it. And
- 7:15Speaker 3: I wanted to add to I think we're going to
- 7:16Speaker 3: call this this segment Dan Stu, and I wanted to
- 7:20Speaker 3: add to Dan's Stu. I wanted to stir the pod
- 7:24Speaker 3: a little bit, do it. And I've talked about this
- 7:27Speaker 3: before when we were talking about AI writing stuff. But
- 7:30Speaker 3: when you're you're watching an episode of Track and it
- 7:32Speaker 3: goes through like there's a story by and written by.
- 7:37Speaker 3: So when when it says story by, you know, when
- 7:41Speaker 3: the when the credits roll at the beginning of the episode,
- 7:43Speaker 3: that means that somebody went up to the people that
- 7:47Speaker 3: make shows and said, hey, I got an idea for
- 7:49Speaker 3: an episode, okay, And but they're not writers, they don't
- 7:53Speaker 3: know they don't know how to write dialogue stuff like that, okay,
- 7:56Speaker 3: So then they give it off to somebody who actually
- 7:59Speaker 3: write the episode. So I think there's a problem here
- 8:03Speaker 3: where somebody had a good idea for a story, but
- 8:08Speaker 3: then the writers had never seen an episode of Deep
- 8:11Speaker 3: Space nine or vice versa. I think the problem is
- 8:13Speaker 3: that the writers and the story people are not driving
- 8:16Speaker 3: the way that writers and story people did when they
- 8:19Speaker 3: were doing like Voyager or Deep Space nine. Does that
- 8:22Speaker 3: make any sense?
- 8:25Speaker 5: I mean it's possible sometimes written or story bin and
- 8:29Speaker 5: then written is like the original person took a swipe
- 8:34Speaker 5: at the at the screenplay, right, and then he just
- 8:38Speaker 5: it was changed so much as they continue the development
- 8:40Speaker 5: process that it's no longer the original screenplay. So they
- 8:44Speaker 5: go with the last draft as written.
- 8:47Speaker 3: By, because how could you come up with a story
- 8:50Speaker 3: that that hearkens back? So much to Cisco and talk about,
- 8:54Speaker 3: you know, because I thought it was such a cool
- 8:57Speaker 3: idea to have Isla dax it and and I thought
- 9:01Speaker 3: it was such a cool about like the tomato reference.
- 9:04Speaker 3: And then how could you how could you know? Dan
- 9:07Speaker 3: just came up with this thing about how thock? How
- 9:09Speaker 3: could you miss that? How could you have such a
- 9:12Speaker 3: great idea over here yet miss this idea over here?
- 9:17Speaker 3: Where is the disconnect?
- 9:19Speaker 2: Yeah, it's is that he also had another son.
- 9:25Speaker 3: Yeah, totally. Yeah, not a single mention. I noticed that
- 9:29Speaker 3: during the episode two. And I'm like, you could at
- 9:31Speaker 3: least say, you know, and his brother you know or
- 9:37Speaker 3: something you know, or or Jake could have said, yeah,
- 9:39Speaker 3: me and my brother yea, you know because he mentioned
- 9:42Speaker 3: the mom. Yeah you mentioned Cassidy. Yeah, Cassidy and my
- 9:46Speaker 3: mother lived happily ever after, or you know, or maybe
- 9:50Speaker 3: dropped a name and we would have been like, ooh,
- 9:53Speaker 3: that's the name of the broad do we I don't
- 9:54Speaker 3: even know if we ever knew the name. Like she
- 9:56Speaker 3: never gave birth on the show.
- 9:59Speaker 4: No, she knew gave birds. She said she was pregnant.
- 10:02Speaker 5: I feel like I've seen in like in a book
- 10:04Speaker 5: or a comic book, they named the son Ben after
- 10:08Speaker 5: after Ben.
- 10:08Speaker 3: Right, I'm sure there's a book or comic book or
- 10:10Speaker 3: something where he's a starship captain by now.
- 10:12Speaker 5: But yeah, and then there's another one that I saw
- 10:14Speaker 5: that where they named him after the grandpa.
- 10:16Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what I thought it was Joseph, but I
- 10:22Speaker 2: could be wrong. Yeah, it's been a long.
- 10:24Speaker 4: Time getting from there to all right, let's.
- 10:36Speaker 5: Still I'm trying to think of what I can use
- 10:40Speaker 5: for dance, Like should I get some Neelix footage and
- 10:43Speaker 5: you know, edit that round back there you go. Yeah,
- 10:48Speaker 5: all right, well let's let's let's get to the news
- 10:51Speaker 5: because we've.
- 10:51Speaker 4: Got a lot to go through.
- 10:54Speaker 3: Star Trek news.
- 10:57Speaker 5: All right, so our first news story comes to a
- 11:00Speaker 5: from IMDb, and uh, this is kind of interesting because
- 11:03Speaker 5: it's this news is starting to make the rounds right now.
- 11:06Speaker 5: But the headline reads Star Trek, Star Treks Starfleet Academy
- 11:11Speaker 5: sees poor ratings as it fails to hold an audience.
- 11:15Speaker 4: No shit, Yeah, so what's going on.
- 11:19Speaker 5: Is because it takes so long to get the ratings,
- 11:24Speaker 5: we're just now getting the ratings for the premiere episode,
- 11:28Speaker 5: that two episode premiere that started six weeks ago. So
- 11:33Speaker 5: this is just now the tracking for for internet viewing
- 11:39Speaker 5: streaming services, right, And what what IMDb is reporting is
- 11:46Speaker 5: that Starfleet Academy failed to break into the top ten
- 11:51Speaker 5: Nielsen charts. So that that's pretty bad, especially with its
- 11:56Speaker 5: it's just an expensive show.
- 11:57Speaker 4: But what really makes this worse on fortunately.
- 12:01Speaker 5: Is if you remember they did a two episode premiere,
- 12:06Speaker 5: meaning you had double the chances, double the streaming to
- 12:10Speaker 5: break into that top ten. It's not like you were
- 12:13Speaker 5: competing with one episode of another show. You know, it's
- 12:17Speaker 5: one episode of another show compared to the two that
- 12:19Speaker 5: you're releasing that week. So so that hurts, right, the
- 12:24Speaker 5: fact that they couldn't even break into the top ten
- 12:26Speaker 5: with a two episode premiere.
- 12:30Speaker 3: Yeah, going to kill the Tar Trek.
- 12:33Speaker 2: That's that's the tagline for this show, Starfleet Academy.
- 12:37Speaker 5: It hurts, Yes, it's it's pretty rough man, and they're
- 12:43Speaker 5: spending you know, millions and millions of dollars. I mean,
- 12:45Speaker 5: it's one of the most expensive Star Trek shows, if
- 12:47Speaker 5: not the most expensive, and and it's.
- 12:49Speaker 4: Not even breaking.
- 12:53Speaker 3: It.
- 12:54Speaker 4: You can't just there's no copium around this.
- 12:57Speaker 5: It's a bad it's a bad precedent for this show
- 13:01Speaker 5: and we got another season of that coming.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Yeah, well, I feel bad. I know I've said this before.
- 13:11Speaker 2: I feel bad. I come here Sunday. Yeah, I log
- 13:15Speaker 2: in and I spend an hour taking a dump on
- 13:19Speaker 2: this show. And that's not what this podcast is supposed
- 13:29Speaker 2: to be, right, And I feel bad doing that. But
- 13:35Speaker 2: the reality is this podcast is the only reason I
- 13:37Speaker 2: watched this show.
- 13:39Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I didn't finish the accolade. I didn't bother, didn't bother.
- 13:46Speaker 2: So this is this is not for me. I'm not
- 13:48Speaker 2: enjoying this. This is supposed to be entertainment. I'm gonna
- 13:50Speaker 2: go do something else. The only reason I'm here, The
- 13:55Speaker 2: only reason I watched the show is because because I'm here.
- 13:58Speaker 2: M hm. So I don't know.
- 14:02Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm trying to get through Ironheart right now. I
- 14:05Speaker 3: didn't even bother, didn't bother. It's on in the background.
- 14:09Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, I.
- 14:11Speaker 2: Usually watched this show twice. I watch it on Thursday
- 14:15Speaker 2: when it comes out. Sometimes I listen to it in
- 14:19Speaker 2: the car while I drive to work on Thursday morning,
- 14:21Speaker 2: and then usually Sunday morning, I'll rewatch it and take
- 14:25Speaker 2: some notes for this show. I couldn't get through it today. Yeah,
- 14:31Speaker 2: I took a bunch of notes, and when News said, spoonge,
- 14:40Speaker 2: that's the last thing I have in my notes. Yeah,
- 14:42Speaker 2: I was like, all right, I got enough here, Yeah, yeah,
- 14:46Speaker 2: I got enough.
- 14:47Speaker 4: You know.
- 14:48Speaker 2: It's like I wasn't watching the show to enjoy the show.
- 14:51Speaker 2: I was watching the show to have enough content to
- 14:54Speaker 2: do this podcast. And I got to the point where
- 14:57Speaker 2: he said spooge, and I said, yeah, I can talk
- 15:00Speaker 2: for an hour about this show. That that's that's enough.
- 15:03Speaker 3: Let me make it.
- 15:04Speaker 2: Let me go make an egg sandwich for myself because.
- 15:07Speaker 3: And here's the thing, the reason. Let me explain to
- 15:10Speaker 3: the audience why you're happy to apologize. Catch this. Okay,
- 15:16Speaker 3: we're not talking about good Trek being bad, because if
- 15:20Speaker 3: this was good Trek being bad, if this was Deep
- 15:22Speaker 3: Space nine having a bad episode, we would have a
- 15:25Speaker 3: fun time talking about Ala Moraine or some bad parts
- 15:30Speaker 3: of a good episode. Okay, it would be fun. It
- 15:33Speaker 3: would be funny, like trash and like bad parts of
- 15:36Speaker 3: a good episode or a bad episode of a good series.
- 15:39Speaker 3: That's not this, And that's I feel like that's why
- 15:41Speaker 3: you're I feel like that's why why we are having
- 15:46Speaker 3: to apologize, right Dan, I mean.
- 15:47Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, so Star trekh nine, There's there's plenty of
- 15:52Speaker 2: problems with that movie. There's plenty of issues with that movie.
- 15:57Speaker 2: I could do a two hour podcast of all the
- 15:59Speaker 2: mistakes that they made with that movie. But you know what,
- 16:04Speaker 2: I rewatched that one all the time.
- 16:06Speaker 3: Sure.
- 16:07Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's fun and it's fun to watch because
- 16:10Speaker 2: because the good things about it outweigh the bad things
- 16:16Speaker 2: about it. The problem is there's an imbalance here with
- 16:22Speaker 2: this show. I don't enjoy it enough to write off
- 16:27Speaker 2: all of these things.
- 16:28Speaker 5: Yeah, all right, let me get to my next news story,
- 16:33Speaker 5: because yeah, we're still in the news.
- 16:34Speaker 4: This is yeah, yeah.
- 16:37Speaker 5: This next one hurts for me personally. This is coming
- 16:42Speaker 5: to us from giant freaking Robots. And let me bring
- 16:46Speaker 5: up the headline, Star Trek's best writer just threw fans
- 16:51Speaker 5: under the bus. So they are reporting on Tawny Newsom,
- 16:56Speaker 5: who recently did a Ask Me Anything on youtubebe and
- 17:01Speaker 5: she went on to defend start Starfleet Academy because she
- 17:05Speaker 5: is one of the writers and a producer and a
- 17:08Speaker 5: star of it as Dax. But she went on to say, quote,
- 17:14Speaker 5: there is something different with this show because our cast
- 17:18Speaker 5: is so young, and I just want to say really,
- 17:20Speaker 5: I uh just say, really, think about who you are
- 17:23Speaker 5: tearing down. So she is saying that the big criticism
- 17:28Speaker 5: against the show is the fact that it's young, and
- 17:32Speaker 5: not any of the other problems that we've mentioned or
- 17:36Speaker 5: anyone else, Right.
- 17:42Speaker 2: But they're putting young people in adult situations. Well, so
- 17:46Speaker 2: you can't say, you can't say, oh, but they're just
- 17:49Speaker 2: kids when they're they're shacking up with each other, they're
- 17:52Speaker 2: going bar hopping.
- 17:54Speaker 5: M Well, and I would say, I don't think we've
- 17:58Speaker 5: ever even said that, Oh, the problem is shows that
- 18:00Speaker 5: they're young. It's like we we mentioned situations, the writing,
- 18:06Speaker 5: you know.
- 18:06Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I think it's that the show is geared
- 18:10Speaker 2: towards young people. I don't think you're the demographic it's
- 18:13Speaker 2: geared towards Yeah.
- 18:15Speaker 4: No, but yeah, but.
- 18:18Speaker 2: Those people aren't watching it, right, We just got the
- 18:21Speaker 2: We just got the numbers. So the people, the people
- 18:23Speaker 2: you're aiming this show at, aren't watching it. The ones
- 18:27Speaker 2: who are watching it aren't enjoying it. One plus one
- 18:33Speaker 2: equals two. It's time for a course correction. That's what
- 18:36Speaker 2: that says, right.
- 18:39Speaker 5: I I would agree. So yeah, so that that one
- 18:43Speaker 5: kind of hurt me because I'm like, oh, okay, you're
- 18:44Speaker 5: you're not taking responsibility or.
- 18:47Speaker 3: Yeah, how long from the time the rudder turns to
- 18:53Speaker 3: the time the ship turns? Is it from the time
- 18:56Speaker 3: they hear you know, they heard all of the noise?
- 19:00Speaker 3: So if we want you know, uh, what was the
- 19:02Speaker 3: name that everybody came up with for the new Star
- 19:04Speaker 3: Trek show that everybody wants leg we want legacy and
- 19:07Speaker 3: we hate this to the time they hear that and
- 19:10Speaker 3: then make it.
- 19:11Speaker 5: Well, the reports are they did offer Jerry Ryan a
- 19:17Speaker 5: legacy type show, but it wasn't going to be what
- 19:21Speaker 5: they originally planned for legacy. So that's why she didn't
- 19:25Speaker 5: do it, like it was going to just be her
- 19:26Speaker 5: and Raffie and none of the other characters not not
- 19:29Speaker 5: what was the name Jack Crusher? And you know some
- 19:34Speaker 5: of the Legacy TG people pop in every now and then,
- 19:37Speaker 5: so that's kind of crazy. Yeah, oh well, Bill says,
- 19:44Speaker 5: this episode felt like a course correction to me. We're
- 19:47Speaker 5: gonna talk about that. I have thoughts about that. It
- 19:51Speaker 5: did feel different.
- 19:52Speaker 4: I will give you that.
- 19:53Speaker 3: It did feel like thought about this.
- 19:55Speaker 5: Oh nice, I can't wait, all right, And then our
- 19:59Speaker 5: last news story comes to us from what is this
- 20:03Speaker 5: what I forget the name of this website Red Shirts
- 20:05Speaker 5: will Always Die. And we're learning a little bit about
- 20:08Speaker 5: behind the scenes of Starfleet Academy.
- 20:12Speaker 4: The headline is star Trek.
- 20:13Speaker 5: Actor confirms costume was uncomfortable and was a lot more work,
- 20:17Speaker 5: So we're.
- 20:18Speaker 4: Learning more from Gina.
- 20:20Speaker 5: Yes here she plays the Laura Thought the klingon Geminar Hybrid.
- 20:28Speaker 4: Yeah, and she was talking a little bit about some.
- 20:31Speaker 5: Of the improvements from season one in season two because
- 20:34Speaker 5: they are shooting season two right now, as I understand it,
- 20:38Speaker 5: like yeah, yeah, but she's basically saying that the prosthetics
- 20:43Speaker 5: that she uses now in season two, because she's referring
- 20:46Speaker 5: to now, is a lot more comfortable to wear. She's like,
- 20:49Speaker 5: by no means are they comfortable. They're just more comfortable
- 20:52Speaker 5: than what they were before. Poor lady just got to
- 20:56Speaker 5: wear these things were like sixteen hours a day, so
- 20:58Speaker 5: that's pretty rough. Also says that they cost Hume is
- 21:02Speaker 5: like just not comfortable at all either, So she's feeling
- 21:05Speaker 5: all awkward in the entire time that she's shooting.
- 21:09Speaker 4: So that sucks.
- 21:11Speaker 3: And when you get a lead role in track, like
- 21:14Speaker 3: after the excitement wears off, you must have looked down
- 21:18Speaker 3: and go, oh it's a Cardassian.
- 21:21Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, damn it, damn it, I couldn't be.
- 21:26Speaker 3: Yeah or Ti yeah, okay, yeah, well that that's what makes.
- 21:33Speaker 5: Yeah, well like somebody like like Doug Jones, right, who
- 21:37Speaker 5: was through, who has been in a ton of movies
- 21:39Speaker 5: under a ton of prosthetics all the time, so that
- 21:42Speaker 5: poor guy is always under it, right, And that's what
- 21:46Speaker 5: you're known for because you'll you're willing to do it,
- 21:48Speaker 5: you know.
- 21:50Speaker 3: I mean Michael Dorn must have just walked out of
- 21:53Speaker 3: his trailer every morning and looked at Patrick Stewart and
- 21:56Speaker 3: been like, I hate you.
- 22:00Speaker 2: Well, when he moved over to Deep Space nine, that
- 22:03Speaker 2: was that was one of the conditions that he had.
- 22:07Speaker 2: Yet you have to figure something out and cut down
- 22:10Speaker 2: the make the time, the time in the chair.
- 22:13Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, well about sixty years and they still can't
- 22:16Speaker 5: make comfortable costume, yeah, because they just have to look
- 22:19Speaker 5: good and it doesn't matter what they feel like.
- 22:21Speaker 3: You know. Well, eventually this is gonna be in ten
- 22:25Speaker 3: five years, the actors probably aren't gonna have to deal
- 22:28Speaker 3: with this anymore. It's just gonna be dots on a face.
- 22:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:33Speaker 3: Maybe maybe like Robert Downe Jr. When he did Iron
- 22:38Speaker 3: Man one, he had to wear the entire costume and
- 22:41Speaker 3: by end game he's like, no, I'm not wearing a Yeah.
- 22:46Speaker 5: The actor that played Yeah, the actor that plays They
- 22:50Speaker 5: cling on on Academy. I forget his real name, but
- 22:53Speaker 5: Jaden Yeah, he did. He did like an ask me
- 22:56Speaker 5: anything on Instagram and he says it took like four
- 23:00Speaker 5: and a half to five hours every day to put
- 23:03Speaker 5: on that makeup and so like he's in the chair
- 23:07Speaker 5: and then he's got to go shoot Like it's crazy.
- 23:10Speaker 3: Also, I have an issue with his name.
- 23:14Speaker 4: Yeah, a lot of people, do you know why?
- 23:17Speaker 3: It's like, okay, you know, welcome to trick Cast with
- 23:20Speaker 3: Dan Yell. You know what the heck?
- 23:27Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, it's it's a little spot.
- 23:29Speaker 3: I'm I'm a cleon Jemadar hybrid names m Yeah that
- 23:36Speaker 3: come on, Jaden? Okay, come on. Writers.
- 23:41Speaker 4: Yeah, well that's all the news stories.
- 23:45Speaker 3: So there you go.
- 23:48Speaker 5: Yeah, tough times, but uh well we should probably get
- 23:53Speaker 5: to it the main topic.
- 23:54Speaker 2: So here we go.
- 23:56Speaker 6: Fun will now come out.
- 24:02Speaker 3: I'm angry because we've got we've got a writer right
- 24:06Speaker 3: here that that does a Star Trek podcast with about
- 24:09Speaker 3: fourteen listeners. It would run circles around all of you.
- 24:13Speaker 4: Yeah, Dan would do a great job.
- 24:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I thought he's the writer, he's the right.
- 24:20Speaker 3: Wait I did on my screen, I'm pointing at Daniel.
- 24:24Speaker 4: Oh yeah, you're pointing to Dan.
- 24:27Speaker 3: Oh.
- 24:27Speaker 4: Some people go this way, some people go that way,
- 24:29Speaker 4: some people go both ways. It's right, that's right.
- 24:34Speaker 3: Uh, this guy, that guy.
- 24:37Speaker 5: So yeah, we had the sixth episode of Starfleet Academy.
- 24:41Speaker 5: The episode was come Let's Away.
- 24:46Speaker 3: It's a Shakespeare quote. Is that what it is?
- 24:49Speaker 2: Yeah, Yeah, it means it means come on, let's go. Yeah,
- 24:55Speaker 2: come let's away.
- 24:56Speaker 4: I thought I thought of many read this comic book.
- 25:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:01Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 25:02Speaker 6: Uh.
- 25:03Speaker 4: So basically what we have is the new version of
- 25:06Speaker 4: the Kobyashi Maru. I guess kind of. Uh.
- 25:09Speaker 5: They have to they have to go on a field
- 25:10Speaker 5: trip to like a ship graveyard and start up a
- 25:15Speaker 5: ship and nobody's done this before. And uh, when the
- 25:19Speaker 5: cadets go to the broken down ship, they get attacked
- 25:23Speaker 5: by some new villains, the what are they called the Reapers?
- 25:28Speaker 2: The Furious from from X Men? Yeah, from from Firefly? Yeah, Firefly, Oh,
- 25:37Speaker 2: I don't know, Firefly. There was there was a there
- 25:41Speaker 2: was a team of villains in like late eighties X
- 25:44Speaker 2: Men comics called the Reverse and they were all I
- 25:47Speaker 2: think they were like cyborgs or something.
- 25:50Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, Reavers were a villain from Firefly and they
- 25:53Speaker 3: were part human part they were humans.
- 25:56Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, well these guys are human and party and cannibal.
- 26:02Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, they were phased, I guess.
- 26:05Speaker 4: Yeah, what's so what is the story with that?
- 26:07Speaker 2: Did they ever?
- 26:08Speaker 4: They didn't really explain it is, well, okay, cool.
- 26:11Speaker 3: Thanks thanks for that.
- 26:14Speaker 4: Yeah, apparently they're from one of the books. They're they're
- 26:18Speaker 4: a villain in one of the books.
- 26:20Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, you didn't read the book. I got it
- 26:22Speaker 3: right here.
- 26:23Speaker 4: Yeah, what's the book called?
- 26:24Speaker 3: Yeah, it's this this book right here?
- 26:27Speaker 4: Oh okay, yeah, it's.
- 26:30Speaker 3: Yeah, that book.
- 26:32Speaker 4: I mean, I think they were a cool villain. I
- 26:34Speaker 4: thought they were.
- 26:35Speaker 2: They might have they might have been if we knew
- 26:37Speaker 2: anything about them.
- 26:38Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know. I don't know about them.
- 26:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know anything about them. I know that
- 26:45Speaker 2: Lieutenant Commander Chaperone's voice was two thousand dubbed.
- 26:51Speaker 4: Oh yeah yeah, yeah, Like it was awkward how obvious
- 26:56Speaker 4: it was that.
- 26:58Speaker 2: It was dubbed?
- 26:58Speaker 3: Yeah? Oh, the uh Marine commander.
- 27:03Speaker 2: Yeah, the guy gets sacrificed himself and and and again,
- 27:08Speaker 2: I'm gonna you know, I'm just gonna.
- 27:10Speaker 3: Says dubbed or not.
- 27:14Speaker 2: No, just the sound of his voice, you could tell
- 27:16Speaker 2: he was in a studio after the after Yeah, everyone
- 27:21Speaker 2: else sounded like this, and he sounded like he was
- 27:24Speaker 2: right up on the mic like this.
- 27:27Speaker 4: But so Caleb.
- 27:31Speaker 2: Was running his mouth and using foul language in front
- 27:34Speaker 2: of that guy. And I know he's a teenager and
- 27:38Speaker 2: he's edgy and whatnot. But again, this is a military academy, Scott,
- 27:46Speaker 2: when you were in basic training, did you like use
- 27:50Speaker 2: foul language a front atil sergeant.
- 27:52Speaker 4: Like like it was cool?
- 27:53Speaker 3: Okay?
- 27:54Speaker 2: What would and what would happen to you if you did?
- 27:56Speaker 2: Regardless regardless of where you.
- 27:59Speaker 3: Were, where it was we could march, they would yop.
- 28:04Speaker 3: If you you to the drill sergeant, the start would
- 28:06Speaker 3: stop the entire company and make me drop.
- 28:09Speaker 2: And yeah, if you could you could be on your
- 28:11Speaker 2: way down the stairs. He would have you do them
- 28:14Speaker 2: on the stairs with your head at the bottom of
- 28:17Speaker 2: the stairs.
- 28:19Speaker 3: Completely unacceptable. Yeah.
- 28:24Speaker 5: Yeah, uh so this episode, yeah, they basically go in
- 28:29Speaker 5: a field trip and we have to start up the ship,
- 28:32Speaker 5: we get attacked, and the only way to stop the
- 28:37Speaker 5: furies is they've got to reach out to Paul Giamatti,
- 28:42Speaker 5: and Paul Gimodi says, I will take care.
- 28:44Speaker 4: Of this for you, for them.
- 28:45Speaker 2: No, that's not that's not the only way. That's not
- 28:48Speaker 2: the other way. The other way they wanted they wanted money.
- 28:51Speaker 4: They wanted money.
- 28:52Speaker 2: Yes, they wanted money. And the captain of this show
- 28:55Speaker 2: was immediately ready to write a check.
- 28:57Speaker 4: Yep.
- 28:58Speaker 2: And if you don't have a problem with that, you
- 29:02Speaker 2: don't know anything about Star Trek or.
- 29:08Speaker 3: The world.
- 29:09Speaker 2: Yeah, you don't negotiate with terrorists.
- 29:12Speaker 3: You do not.
- 29:13Speaker 2: And if you do, you negotiate, you know just right,
- 29:20Speaker 2: the right right, chat.
- 29:21Speaker 3: Thank you for your down payment, and ask for more. Yeah.
- 29:24Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like you're you're a thousand years old. How
- 29:27Speaker 2: do you not know this? Well?
- 29:29Speaker 5: And then the other thing is they all seem to
- 29:31Speaker 5: know that this is a villain, right, Like they're familiar
- 29:34Speaker 5: with these people. They may not interact with them a lot,
- 29:36Speaker 5: but they know of them, right, So like we didn't
- 29:40Speaker 5: have contingencies or something.
- 29:44Speaker 3: Yeah, well, the writers may damn sure that everybody knows
- 29:48Speaker 3: that they're a villain. They did everything to let us
- 29:51Speaker 3: know that they're Paul Giamatti did everything except and I
- 29:54Speaker 3: mean everything except twirl his mustache to let us know
- 30:00Speaker 3: that he was the bad guy, including including say I'm
- 30:05Speaker 3: the bad guy.
- 30:09Speaker 2: So I know he double crosses them in the end.
- 30:13Speaker 2: Everyone knows he double crosses him in the end. But
- 30:16Speaker 2: there's a line where they're they're working on getting his help,
- 30:20Speaker 2: and Admiral poop Apples says, the Federation has suspended his
- 30:26Speaker 2: warrants for seventy two hours. That makes zero sense. You're
- 30:34Speaker 2: wanted for crimes, we need your help. We're gonna not
- 30:40Speaker 2: you come help us. We're not going to arrest you
- 30:42Speaker 2: for seventy two hours. But once that clock is done ticking,
- 30:46Speaker 2: it's game on again. There's still a warrant for your arrest.
- 30:51Speaker 2: What idiot would ever participate in that arrangement? It makes
- 30:58Speaker 2: it makes zero, zero sense, zero sense.
- 31:05Speaker 3: And at the end he's like he's now the Federation's
- 31:09Speaker 3: most wanted man. It's like, yeah, he should have been
- 31:12Speaker 3: in the first place. Mister Yeah.
- 31:14Speaker 2: Well, and then part of the.
- 31:15Speaker 5: Deal was they were away from any other ship. No
- 31:19Speaker 5: ship could come and reach them in time to really help.
- 31:22Speaker 2: Except his well or Discovery.
- 31:25Speaker 4: Discovery's got the instant drive.
- 31:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:28Speaker 3: Yeah, they're making they're they're really trying to avoid talking
- 31:30Speaker 3: about Discovery, like they'll mention Discovery's name, like, oh, Discoveries
- 31:34Speaker 3: and dry dock or Discovery except for Discovery or whatever.
- 31:39Speaker 2: Yeah, it's there's there's plot holes everywhere. So the Admiral
- 31:44Speaker 2: is there via the hollow communicator, right, he's not really
- 31:47Speaker 2: on he's not really on the ship. Yeah he's and
- 31:50Speaker 2: he says to news, thank you for consulting with us
- 31:55Speaker 2: on our problem. So he's not there to physically do anything.
- 31:58Speaker 2: He is there to consult.
- 32:01Speaker 4: Why is he there?
- 32:04Speaker 2: Why isn't he also a holographic projection. There's no need,
- 32:10Speaker 2: there's no need for him to come onto the ship.
- 32:13Speaker 2: And yes, yes, and if instead he was just a
- 32:18Speaker 2: hollow projection, you wouldn't have to have this stupid line
- 32:21Speaker 2: about them suspending his warrants for seventy two hours. You
- 32:24Speaker 2: can't arrest a hollow projection. It's it's just so dumb.
- 32:28Speaker 2: There's just so many things that they do that make
- 32:30Speaker 2: zero sense.
- 32:33Speaker 5: Yeah, I will say the buzz on the internet is
- 32:40Speaker 5: that people like this episode the best so far.
- 32:42Speaker 2: Well, they don't know any better, I guess.
- 32:46Speaker 5: I think, honestly, comparatively to all the other episodes, I
- 32:49Speaker 5: think it is the better one maybe, but that's not
- 32:54Speaker 5: saying much higher.
- 32:56Speaker 3: I think there was one. There was one part of
- 33:00Speaker 3: our guessing game thing, you know, our prediction show, where
- 33:03Speaker 3: we said, you know, does any member of the I
- 33:07Speaker 3: think I don't know if this counts or not, but
- 33:08Speaker 3: does any any of the cadets die? You know? And
- 33:13Speaker 3: there was a it wasn't a it wasn't a Starfleet
- 33:15Speaker 3: Academy cadet, but there was a young ling that that
- 33:19Speaker 3: that died.
- 33:20Speaker 2: Right, So yeah, and I kind of liked that guy.
- 33:23Speaker 2: He was growing on me.
- 33:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 33:26Speaker 2: Yeah. So you know, as this show goes and they
- 33:31Speaker 2: use modern language, modern sometimes inappropriate language like spoog it
- 33:40Speaker 2: all over everyone, Interstellar, Bestie, Space Boo, my mind starts
- 33:50Speaker 2: kind of expecting things like that and sometimes looking for
- 33:54Speaker 2: them in places that it might fit. And and like
- 33:59Speaker 2: most grown men, deep down inside, I'm a twelve year
- 34:04Speaker 2: old boy, and I still have those twelve year old
- 34:07Speaker 2: boy thoughts.
- 34:09Speaker 3: So go on.
- 34:12Speaker 2: Kyle gets injured, Jaden says, this might scar. He says,
- 34:16Speaker 2: what's a soldier without a few scars? And then Jaden says,
- 34:22Speaker 2: are you sure you're not part klingon? And they both smile, right,
- 34:27Speaker 2: and my mind, my twelve year old boy mind translated
- 34:33Speaker 2: that too, got any cling on in you? You want some?
- 34:39Speaker 4: Oh god?
- 34:43Speaker 2: And I can't help it, you know, I said, My
- 34:46Speaker 2: mind goes there. Every man is a twelve year old
- 34:49Speaker 2: boy deep down inside. But when the lieutenant commander bites
- 34:57Speaker 2: the dust, yeah, who's in charge?
- 35:04Speaker 3: There should be a chain of command, a clear the absolutely.
- 35:07Speaker 2: Needs to be an established chain of command. Yes, every
- 35:14Speaker 2: and we just had an episode a few weeks ago
- 35:17Speaker 2: where they have this competition to figure out who's going
- 35:20Speaker 2: to be the team captain or whatever. Okay, every mission
- 35:26Speaker 2: has to have an established chain of command, and they
- 35:29Speaker 2: don't do that. This guy bites the dust and then
- 35:31Speaker 2: they all just they just work together. They just work
- 35:34Speaker 2: together to get the job done. And that's not how
- 35:37Speaker 2: it works. No.
- 35:39Speaker 3: No.
- 35:40Speaker 5: It was interesting to me that they use Sam to
- 35:44Speaker 5: talk to the old computer, like she could talk to
- 35:47Speaker 5: it like a like a robot, instead of.
- 35:50Speaker 3: Like, finally they're using her to do something.
- 35:54Speaker 2: Except she was just yelling at a computer like like
- 35:57Speaker 2: as long as I say it with enough emotion, the
- 35:59Speaker 2: computer will do something different.
- 36:03Speaker 5: Well, I guess I would like kind of set parameters
- 36:06Speaker 5: on what she can and cannot do, because right now
- 36:09Speaker 5: it's just it's magic and whatever they need, she can
- 36:12Speaker 5: do it.
- 36:13Speaker 2: And and you know, well they've also they haven't established
- 36:16Speaker 2: how she manifests, right she if she has a hollow emitter,
- 36:21Speaker 2: where it is, what its limitations are. She took phaser
- 36:25Speaker 2: fire this week and was and was injured. That made
- 36:29Speaker 2: no sense. It might have made sense if they had
- 36:32Speaker 2: had established some rules. Yeah, but they haven't done that.
- 36:36Speaker 2: We all, we all knew, everyone watching Voyager knew that
- 36:38Speaker 2: the Doctor could make himself tangible and intangible at will.
- 36:42Speaker 2: But oh, somebody hit the hollow emitter and it fell
- 36:45Speaker 2: off and he's gone until somebody taps on it and
- 36:51Speaker 2: the damage.
- 36:51Speaker 3: What wouldn't Yes, the guy hit in the chest with
- 36:53Speaker 3: a phaser fire, he'd be like sticks and zones.
- 36:56Speaker 2: Yep. So they haven't established anything with right right.
- 37:05Speaker 3: So I hope they explain it because clearly she is
- 37:09Speaker 3: of a different variety of hollow than the doctor. So
- 37:14Speaker 3: I'm hoping that they explain. Yeah. You know, like I
- 37:16Speaker 3: think everybody's imagining that she's either being projected or that
- 37:19Speaker 3: she's got like a a mobile emitter like maybe inside
- 37:22Speaker 3: of her, like inside of her torso or something like that.
- 37:25Speaker 3: But maybe they came up with something cool, like a
- 37:28Speaker 3: like a nanoonet that surrounds her or something something. Yeah,
- 37:34Speaker 3: visually that sort of makes sense the way she was,
- 37:38Speaker 3: the way it visualized her injuries.
- 37:41Speaker 2: You know.
- 37:42Speaker 4: Yeah, it would just be nice to know just how
- 37:44Speaker 4: it functions.
- 37:45Speaker 5: I'm sure we'll get some sort of book, you know,
- 37:47Speaker 5: ten years from now that explains it all and breaks
- 37:49Speaker 5: it down.
- 37:50Speaker 3: But or maybe the next god, if they say your
- 37:54Speaker 3: nano neet emitters were blah blah blah blah blah, I'm
- 37:57Speaker 3: going to get the biggest nerd alert ever.
- 38:00Speaker 2: It'll say. It'll say written by so and so, based
- 38:05Speaker 2: on a story by Strong Beard.
- 38:10Speaker 4: So question.
- 38:13Speaker 2: Couldet? I don't you know, I don't know these people's names.
- 38:15Speaker 3: So uh.
- 38:18Speaker 2: Yeah, Cadet combat swallower.
- 38:22Speaker 4: Yeah, oh yeah, yeah.
- 38:26Speaker 2: How long until she's expelled?
- 38:28Speaker 3: Do you think she's either out or there's going to
- 38:33Speaker 3: be a pivot?
- 38:35Speaker 2: Well, they got to do something because.
- 38:39Speaker 3: Or a sacrifice. She's out, you'll never see her again.
- 38:41Speaker 3: There's gonna be a pivot in her character, or she's
- 38:44Speaker 3: gonna make a sacrifice.
- 38:45Speaker 2: I would love to see a story where she realizes
- 38:50Speaker 2: that this is.
- 38:51Speaker 3: Not for me.
- 38:53Speaker 2: I have I have something to offer the universe, and
- 38:57Speaker 2: maybe she discovers, she discovers what it is. I have
- 38:59Speaker 2: something to offer, but this, this is not it.
- 39:02Speaker 5: Yeah, that would be an interesting storyline just for the show,
- 39:06Speaker 5: Like not everyone is for the Academy, and which is
- 39:10Speaker 5: not necessarily wrong, it's just.
- 39:12Speaker 2: Which we've we've actually seen that in early episodes of
- 39:19Speaker 2: Deep Space nine that were rumblings that Jake would go
- 39:21Speaker 2: to Starfleet Academy someday to follow in the footsteps of
- 39:25Speaker 2: his dad, And that's not that's not what he did.
- 39:28Speaker 2: And and who did go the criminal the criminals kid, Yeah,
- 39:34Speaker 2: surprised everyone and and and turned out to be you know,
- 39:38Speaker 2: a war hero and dealt with PTSD and and all
- 39:43Speaker 2: of that, and it was great, great, great, great storytelling.
- 39:45Speaker 2: So the idea that everyone has to follow this path,
- 39:51Speaker 2: I don't you know, I don't believe that you can
- 39:53Speaker 2: have good stories that go against what is expected. But
- 39:57Speaker 2: they still have to be good stories, right right.
- 40:02Speaker 3: No, Dan, they have to. It doesn't have to be
- 40:05Speaker 3: about the story. It's about the message and the irony.
- 40:09Speaker 5: Of the show that Led wants to celebrate different opinions
- 40:13Speaker 5: and everything, but everyone's got to do.
- 40:14Speaker 4: The same thing. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, No, it would
- 40:21Speaker 4: be cool.
- 40:21Speaker 5: I mean because it's not like she could go be
- 40:25Speaker 5: a diplomat or a teacher or something else, right, and
- 40:28Speaker 5: that would be interesting just to be like, hey, guys,
- 40:30Speaker 5: this just isn't for me.
- 40:32Speaker 3: Yeah, there might be an episode where it's it's not
- 40:36Speaker 3: just her, like I don't want to see an episode
- 40:38Speaker 3: just about her, but Liker and maybe the doctor. You know,
- 40:42Speaker 3: I'm waiting for a doctor centric episode. Maybe that's it,
- 40:45Speaker 3: like where she has an episode with the doctor and
- 40:50Speaker 3: you know, the doctor is now a therapist.
- 40:52Speaker 2: And and you know, and everyone loves the member berries, right,
- 40:59Speaker 2: So how great would it be to hear the doctor say,
- 41:06Speaker 2: have I ever told you about my friend Nelix? No,
- 41:10Speaker 2: who's your friend Neelix? Nelix was the greatest this in
- 41:13Speaker 2: the world. He was the greatest this in the world.
- 41:16Speaker 2: He was the greatest this that I've ever enlists all
- 41:18Speaker 2: of these things. He wasn't such a great starfleet officer
- 41:22Speaker 2: m h. But we would have been lost without him.
- 41:25Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I will say this. I think
- 41:32Speaker 5: that this episode, I did enjoy it comparatively to the
- 41:36Speaker 5: other ones. The other episode, I would say the first
- 41:39Speaker 5: episode was all right. But the problem I think with
- 41:43Speaker 5: those two being my favorites is they're the least focused
- 41:47Speaker 5: on the kids and the least focused on that the
- 41:50Speaker 5: premise of the show was originally right, and so like
- 41:55Speaker 5: when when most of the Internet is saying like, oh,
- 41:58Speaker 5: this was an all right episode, they're not loving it,
- 41:59Speaker 5: but saying it's all right, that's a problem with the
- 42:04Speaker 5: very premise of the of the show, right. And the
- 42:09Speaker 5: other thing is people are saying, oh, and they're finally serious,
- 42:11Speaker 5: they're they're interesting. Yeah, that's also saying you don't like
- 42:14Speaker 5: the tone of the show the way it's being presented.
- 42:17Speaker 5: That that's a problem.
- 42:20Speaker 3: Tone of the show. Can I say something?
- 42:25Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 42:28Speaker 3: I was thinking about the tone of the show and
- 42:31Speaker 3: it reminded me of part of the tone of a
- 42:34Speaker 3: show of Voyage or Dace nine and the Next Generation.
- 42:37Speaker 3: I would like to see an episode, maybe an episodic episode.
- 42:43Speaker 3: Do you guys remember the episode of Next Gen d
- 42:46Speaker 3: Sace nine Voyager where it would just be an orchestral
- 42:51Speaker 3: move in due and then it would say Captain's lock
- 42:56Speaker 3: blah blah blah, and then it would say what we're
- 42:58Speaker 3: doing at this planet, and then there would be a story.
- 43:02Speaker 3: There would be a conflict, there would be a beginning,
- 43:04Speaker 3: a middle, and end along the story. We would have
- 43:07Speaker 3: a b story that would be kind of interesting, not
- 43:09Speaker 3: necessarily a life and galaxy ending story, but would be
- 43:13Speaker 3: an interesting story.
- 43:14Speaker 2: Oh, Brian's getting married, yeah, exactly.
- 43:17Speaker 3: And then while that's happening, there's other stuff going on
- 43:20Speaker 3: the main story. And it was an interesting really you know,
- 43:23Speaker 3: maybe there was galaxy ending consequences, but it was just
- 43:27Speaker 3: a really good story beginning, middle, and end, and then
- 43:29Speaker 3: you tied it up nicely.
- 43:31Speaker 4: Mm hmm.
- 43:34Speaker 3: I'd like to see that.
- 43:36Speaker 2: Yeah, you're not going to see that, though, am I
- 43:40Speaker 2: the only one that wants to see that. I would
- 43:41Speaker 2: love to see that. I've been saying I've been saying
- 43:44Speaker 2: for years, and so I'll say it again. They they
- 43:47Speaker 2: were when when Discovery came along, they were convinced that
- 43:50Speaker 2: the old formula didn't work anymore, so they started using
- 43:54Speaker 2: this new formula.
- 43:57Speaker 3: And then.
- 44:00Speaker 2: What's his name from Family Guy Seth MacFarlane came along,
- 44:05Speaker 2: picked up that old formula and just started making episodes
- 44:09Speaker 2: of Star Trek with a different name on it, and
- 44:11Speaker 2: they were great. They were They were fantastic. So the
- 44:17Speaker 2: idea that the old formula doesn't work anymore is bullshit.
- 44:22Speaker 5: Well, and what's even funnier about that is The Orville
- 44:26Speaker 5: had the modern talk right, the modern way of speaking,
- 44:31Speaker 5: and nobody really complained about it because the.
- 44:34Speaker 2: Episode well because you knew it was seth MacFarlane and
- 44:37Speaker 2: he had he had to sell it to the network,
- 44:40Speaker 2: and he's known for comedy, so he had to. That
- 44:43Speaker 2: was the way he got the show made. But if
- 44:45Speaker 2: you watch the show, as as the show goes on,
- 44:49Speaker 2: it's less funny and more serious star and more Star
- 44:53Speaker 2: Trek very much.
- 44:55Speaker 3: So season three was it was just it was just
- 44:59Speaker 3: a series of It was just a Star Trek series.
- 45:02Speaker 2: That episode in season three where molloy gets stuck in
- 45:07Speaker 2: the past and he finds the girl and he finds
- 45:09Speaker 2: the girl that he fell in love with with the phone, Okay, that.
- 45:15Speaker 3: Is that?
- 45:15Speaker 2: That is my favorite episode of The Orville. Yep, it's
- 45:21Speaker 2: probably one of my favorite episodes of Star Trek, even
- 45:26Speaker 2: though it's not Star Trek. And whenever I try and
- 45:30Speaker 2: sell someone on watching The Orville, I say, watch watch
- 45:33Speaker 2: this episode and then skip forward and watch this episode,
- 45:36Speaker 2: and I give them those two.
- 45:38Speaker 3: Yeah, because at the end of the that episode, your
- 45:41Speaker 3: stomach was a not it's your fist. Yes, yeah, you
- 45:44Speaker 3: were on the edge of your seat, completely invested in it.
- 45:47Speaker 3: You know, you were you were pissed, you were relieved,
- 45:51Speaker 3: you were angry, you were conflicted.
- 45:55Speaker 2: When he's yelling ed, ed please, ed, please, don't take
- 45:58Speaker 2: my family away, it was not wrench.
- 46:00Speaker 4: I'm getting upset right now.
- 46:02Speaker 3: Just think about that.
- 46:03Speaker 4: Yeah, that's that's when it's the best man.
- 46:08Speaker 3: When when about the series that I'm watching right now.
- 46:12Speaker 4: Oh, I'm plenty of upset about it. Not in the
- 46:16Speaker 4: way you're saying.
- 46:18Speaker 3: I mean, I've tried to get excited about it. You know,
- 46:21Speaker 3: there's there's been moments where I've got hey that's Dax. Yeah, yeah,
- 46:25Speaker 3: you know, and I'll and I'll continue to try to
- 46:28Speaker 3: watch it for those moments because it's them.
- 46:31Speaker 2: I said, hey, that's Dax too. But I said, hey,
- 46:36Speaker 2: that's Dax, same words.
- 46:40Speaker 3: That's right. I I thought that was seeing we were
- 46:44Speaker 3: talking about you know, good you know, bad parts, bad
- 46:47Speaker 3: episodes in great series and then good parts and bad series.
- 46:50Speaker 3: I thought that was a good part in a bad
- 46:52Speaker 3: series or good you know, a good maybe even a
- 46:54Speaker 3: good episode and a bad series. Because I also like
- 46:58Speaker 3: Tonny News and I thought they did a good job
- 46:59Speaker 3: on that particular part. I could, you know, if they
- 47:02Speaker 3: could explain away how the Dak Symbians could live forty
- 47:06Speaker 3: billion years or whatever? Right right, right? Twelve unders.
- 47:10Speaker 2: But you know, we're gonna find out that Dak's Dax
- 47:15Speaker 2: was at the Last Supper. Yes, now there was, there
- 47:20Speaker 2: was Stuss Judas Dax.
- 47:26Speaker 3: There was some misinformation going on in the Trill Society
- 47:30Speaker 3: about the Symbians during the run of Deep Space nine.
- 47:34Speaker 3: Remember at first they said, you know, only there weren't
- 47:37Speaker 3: enough Symbians to go around, and then they found out
- 47:40Speaker 3: there kind of were. So maybe there was a lot
- 47:43Speaker 3: of misinformation about the symbianths that we didn't know. Maybe
- 47:46Speaker 3: information from the Sybians could be transferred to the hosts,
- 47:50Speaker 3: and the hosts could transfer their information to new Symbians.
- 47:56Speaker 4: Yeah, I've always wondered if the Symbians can go with
- 47:59Speaker 4: the change.
- 48:02Speaker 3: Who knows? Yeah, who knows how it works?
- 48:05Speaker 5: Because the changings are basically immortal, right, Like, isn't that
- 48:08Speaker 5: what they say that they live forever and ever?
- 48:12Speaker 2: Who knows?
- 48:13Speaker 3: Yeah, let's ask let's ask Alex Kurtzman see what he knows.
- 48:17Speaker 2: Please please please don't give him any ideas.
- 48:20Speaker 3: Let's let's ask him what he knows about trillions and there?
- 48:27Speaker 2: So, how did you watched? How did the first symbio
- 48:33Speaker 2: get into the first host?
- 48:34Speaker 4: I've always wondered this.
- 48:38Speaker 2: Because I always I always think of it if you okay,
- 48:43Speaker 2: so we've watched them be implanted on the show, and
- 48:47Speaker 2: if you think of it as a reverse c section,
- 48:52Speaker 2: uh huh, the.
- 48:56Speaker 3: Guy to watch the egg come out of a chicken's buttes,
- 49:02Speaker 3: I bet, yeah.
- 49:08Speaker 2: You know, when ancient symbios implanted themselves, and once, once
- 49:12Speaker 2: the two minds melded together, it's I imagine the first
- 49:17Speaker 2: thing the symbiot says to the host telepathically is I'm sorry.
- 49:22Speaker 4: Yeah, I bet it was.
- 49:26Speaker 3: I bet it was more of a convenience thing. I
- 49:28Speaker 3: bet the first time it happened, it was just outside
- 49:31Speaker 3: the body. And then after years and years and years,
- 49:36Speaker 3: you know, surgeons said, hey, let's try this. Let's see
- 49:39Speaker 3: if we can surgically implant them.
- 49:41Speaker 2: Oh like it, like it grafted onto their back or something,
- 49:45Speaker 2: or like it just you know.
- 49:46Speaker 3: You held them, and it's like, oh my god, I
- 49:47Speaker 3: can hear your thoughts.
- 49:49Speaker 5: See my head canyon is they used to eat the
- 49:51Speaker 5: symbiods and then somehow like there was a psychic residue
- 49:55Speaker 5: of eating them.
- 49:57Speaker 2: The symbia was the worm and the tequila bottle you swallowed.
- 50:01Speaker 2: You swallowed the worm, and you woke up somebody different.
- 50:04Speaker 4: There you go.
- 50:06Speaker 3: I don't know who is more mentally unstable. Yeah, we
- 50:11Speaker 3: all are, Daniel, You're sick though.
- 50:15Speaker 5: God, well, I mean they're on the planet. There's gonna
- 50:18Speaker 5: be like cave people back in the day. They're gonna
- 50:21Speaker 5: be like, what is that gooey thing in the water?
- 50:23Speaker 5: Let's eat it?
- 50:24Speaker 3: Let's eat it?
- 50:25Speaker 4: Yeah, oh my god. Oh Jazz was with the real
- 50:29Speaker 4: Maybe they got high off of them, maybe, you know, yeah.
- 50:36Speaker 3: Oh my goodness. So there, or.
- 50:39Speaker 4: Maybe going back to him dance in the Cimi, it
- 50:41Speaker 4: was like you got.
- 50:42Speaker 3: You want, you want some just started wiggle's tail a
- 50:49Speaker 3: little bit.
- 50:49Speaker 4: Yeah, look at this turns around.
- 50:52Speaker 2: It's like, you guys need help.
- 50:58Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, How does this episode end?
- 51:02Speaker 4: I don't know, Oh how does it end?
- 51:06Speaker 3: It ends up?
- 51:06Speaker 4: The Paul g mined he tricked them and and.
- 51:12Speaker 5: He really wanted that other ship to leave some space
- 51:16Speaker 5: station or something, and he destroyed it and it was
- 51:21Speaker 5: all a ruse.
- 51:23Speaker 3: Yeah, does he Paul Jimuty's character. He's a bad guy, right, Yes, Okay,
- 51:30Speaker 3: he is a bad guy. I just wanted to make
- 51:32Speaker 3: sure nuts Rakka Nustifer is his name in this. So
- 51:39Speaker 3: Nustfer apparently is a bad guy. The writer, Uh, the
- 51:44Speaker 3: writer's hint a couple of times that he's a bad guy.
- 51:48Speaker 4: Mm hmm.
- 51:49Speaker 3: And that's the problem. My wife and I had a
- 51:53Speaker 3: conversation about this The Best the Best Villains, and this
- 51:58Speaker 3: is where I was going to talk about being a writer.
- 52:00Speaker 3: So take note, Daniel sarcastically is because Daniel is a
- 52:04Speaker 3: great writer, and I have never even thought about it.
- 52:08Speaker 3: The I think the best villains don't think that they're villains,
- 52:13Speaker 3: call themselves villains, don't twirl their mustaches. Lex Luthor does
- 52:19Speaker 3: not see himself as a villain. Magneto does not see
- 52:25Speaker 3: himself as a villain. They see themselves as saviors, and
- 52:30Speaker 3: they're written as seeing themselves as saviors and they're the
- 52:35Speaker 3: best villains. Is there a better villain than Lex Luthor
- 52:38Speaker 3: Thanos and Magneto Joker even even or tortured or tortured
- 52:46Speaker 3: or tortured so Joker uh Darth Vader. Okay, so tortures.
- 52:54Speaker 2: She thinks she's the hero, she's order chaos.
- 52:58Speaker 4: Right, Yeah, so this I did nothing role. Where are
- 53:05Speaker 4: my monuments?
- 53:06Speaker 3: I'm I'm yeah, he he wants to know. He legitimately
- 53:10Speaker 3: thinks there should be monuments with him on bejor I Street.
- 53:13Speaker 4: The Bajorans like children, I guide them.
- 53:17Speaker 2: I love them.
- 53:18Speaker 3: Now, Christopher, Uh, this guy, he literally calls himself the
- 53:27Speaker 3: bad guy. Yeah, and and he I don't know what
- 53:32Speaker 3: child wrote his dialogue in this episode, but he just
- 53:40Speaker 3: he just he just was twirling his mustache and and
- 53:46Speaker 3: talking to.
- 53:47Speaker 4: Well, no, don't.
- 53:48Speaker 5: Don't you remember in in Ratha Khan when Kan tells Kirk, Hey, Kirk,
- 53:52Speaker 5: I'm the bad guy.
- 53:57Speaker 2: Did he No?
- 53:59Speaker 3: That's what I mean.
- 54:00Speaker 4: I'm getting to Yeah, not at all.
- 54:04Speaker 3: I just they're they're trying with my I guess my
- 54:08Speaker 3: point is that they're trying way too hard to try
- 54:10Speaker 3: to make the audience hate this guy. And I guess
- 54:14Speaker 3: they're trying to. I guess they're trying to see if
- 54:20Speaker 3: the commandant will snap or the comment.
- 54:24Speaker 5: I almost wonder if they're like, man, people are gonna
- 54:26Speaker 5: love Paul jim Oni. His character is too much fun
- 54:28Speaker 5: because he's having fun when he's there. You can clearly tell.
- 54:31Speaker 3: He's obviously a good actor. I can't stand him, not
- 54:34Speaker 3: for anything he's ever done. I just hate everything he's
- 54:36Speaker 3: ever been in. Yeah, you know, no, it's I just
- 54:39Speaker 3: hated the movie Sideways. My first experience with him was
- 54:42Speaker 3: watching the movie Sideways in the theater and I hated it.
- 54:44Speaker 3: Andy and I got two friends that I went with,
- 54:47Speaker 3: my friends, Gabe and Steve and I. We talk about
- 54:50Speaker 3: it all the time, and I went to that movie
- 54:52Speaker 3: in the theater with them, and and I hate both
- 54:55Speaker 3: of my friends for this because they took me to
- 54:57Speaker 3: see this abomination of a movie. And Ever said, I've
- 55:00Speaker 3: had this bias against Paul Giamatti. So I'd like to
- 55:02Speaker 3: apologize to Paul Giamatti. I still hate you. But that's
- 55:06Speaker 3: just the reality situation.
- 55:08Speaker 2: I'm gonna find something he was in that you love
- 55:10Speaker 2: that I'm looking it up right now. I'm gonna sue it.
- 55:14Speaker 4: Okay, He's been in so many things.
- 55:16Speaker 2: He was Rhino, yes that I know, the way over
- 55:22Speaker 2: the top accent, straight out of Compton.
- 55:25Speaker 4: There you go.
- 55:27Speaker 3: Yeah, he wasn't straight out of Compton.
- 55:31Speaker 5: Scott's favorite movie, straight out of Compin Scott, were you
- 55:36Speaker 5: more of an mc wren fan or a.
- 55:39Speaker 4: Snoop Dogg fan?
- 55:41Speaker 3: It's more of a Snoop Dogg fan.
- 55:42Speaker 4: Okay, all right?
- 55:44Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 55:45Speaker 4: I always like Wren though, but Ren was good.
- 55:47Speaker 3: But you know, yeah, all right, okay.
- 55:51Speaker 4: Well, anything else we want to say about this episode?
- 56:00Speaker 3: No, Sam is injured? Still? Now? Was that a Is
- 56:04Speaker 3: that a Romulin or a Vulcan that die? Or or
- 56:07Speaker 3: a mix?
- 56:10Speaker 2: I mean they're I I think he's Vulcan, but I
- 56:13Speaker 2: mean they're they're unified at this point.
- 56:14Speaker 3: The female is a rom the female cadet.
- 56:20Speaker 2: Okay, but what you're asking, what you're asking is like saying,
- 56:24Speaker 2: is that guy Italian or is a human?
- 56:28Speaker 3: Right now? Okay? In the thirty first century, that might
- 56:32Speaker 3: be the question. Yeah, yeah, okay, so.
- 56:36Speaker 2: They're both all right, put it this way. The Navarren,
- 56:40Speaker 2: they're both Navarreen. He is from Vulcan descent. She is
- 56:43Speaker 2: of Romulin descent.
- 56:45Speaker 3: Okay, maybe.
- 56:48Speaker 2: Eastern Romulan Eastern l Okay, he's guys Romulin with jellybeans.
- 56:56Speaker 3: But I think they're north and south.
- 56:59Speaker 4: That's right.
- 57:00Speaker 3: Yeah, he's a Northerner. Yeah, okay, all right, so he's dead.
- 57:07Speaker 3: Sam is oh and the and and the that's one
- 57:09Speaker 3: one more point before we bring into a close Uh
- 57:12Speaker 3: get a little bit feedback, can we can the writers
- 57:16Speaker 3: please go back and watch any episode that has to
- 57:19Speaker 3: do with betazoids. Please. Betazoids are telepathic, plain and simple.
- 57:27Speaker 3: They telepathically, can talk to each other, and in a
- 57:31Speaker 3: lot of other episodes, can talk to other non telepathic species.
- 57:35Speaker 3: Half betazoid and half human species such as Counseler Troy
- 57:40Speaker 3: are not telepathic. They're empathic, which means they can't read
- 57:43Speaker 3: people's thoughts, but they can detect other people's emotions. Am
- 57:48Speaker 3: I off base on that a little bit? She she's
- 57:52Speaker 3: super betazoid.
- 57:54Speaker 2: Yes, she can talk to Riker telepathically.
- 57:58Speaker 3: Okay, we've we've seing.
- 58:00Speaker 4: That m hm.
- 58:03Speaker 3: Thoughts. Yeah, she could. They can talk to each other telepathy, yes, yes.
- 58:09Speaker 2: But she also could sense where that ship was in Nemesis.
- 58:14Speaker 2: Wasn't there something she was helping them target the torpedoes
- 58:16Speaker 2: because sense where that was.
- 58:21Speaker 3: I thought you were father and son.
- 58:24Speaker 4: I thought you were getting to the girl, and I was.
- 58:26Speaker 3: Getting to the girl. They said, what did they say
- 58:30Speaker 3: in the episode, We're we're a species.
- 58:33Speaker 2: She can mind sugar, mind speak or something.
- 58:36Speaker 3: She said, no, they're you're just you're telepathic.
- 58:39Speaker 4: That's no.
- 58:41Speaker 2: But but remember she's got the implant in her like, yeah,
- 58:46Speaker 2: so I called her in my in my head, because
- 58:48Speaker 2: I can't remember her name, I call her Beta Max
- 58:51Speaker 2: because she's she's better than v HS, more compact. So
- 58:58Speaker 2: she's betazoid, but she's like super betazoids. So she's got
- 59:01Speaker 2: to wear the the inhibitor. So Beta Max, you can
- 59:05Speaker 2: call her that. It's okay, all ax, Beta Max.
- 59:08Speaker 3: Yeah, so okay, so Beta Max. But can we establish
- 59:11Speaker 3: that betazoids are just simply telepathic. Most betazoids of old
- 59:14Speaker 3: school are just telepathic. Mm hmm okay. Counselor Troy was empathic,
- 59:18Speaker 3: which means she wasn't telepathic with other with most other people,
- 59:23Speaker 3: but she could with other betazoids. She was telepathic with
- 59:27Speaker 3: other telepathy beta betazoid. She was empathic. And here in
- 59:34Speaker 3: the twenty third, twenty second century, it's not in the
- 59:36Speaker 3: script what they can do. And I understand that Beta
- 59:39Speaker 3: Max is a super betazoid who apparently can blow out
- 59:44Speaker 3: your ear drums?
- 59:46Speaker 4: Yeah, that I had a problem with too. How did
- 59:48Speaker 4: she do that?
- 59:50Speaker 2: Because she's Beta Max but she's.
- 59:54Speaker 4: Yeah, and did she blow out everyone else's ear drums?
- 59:56Speaker 2: Do?
- 59:56Speaker 3: No? And I thought I was going to because she goes,
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: don't think you're gonna want to be with me after this?
- 1:00:02Speaker 4: Yeah, clo.
- 1:00:02Speaker 3: She closes her eyes and she does her her Banshee scream,
- 1:00:06Speaker 3: but only the only the the reavers.
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: So because they're part bat, it's like this, It's like,
- 1:00:17Speaker 2: who is the character in the Boys who could just
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: pop people's heads with her mind?
- 1:00:22Speaker 4: Oh? Yeah, Yeah, that's.
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: That's what this reminded. That's what this reminded me of.
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: So to me, it was like, Okay, I take the
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: inhibitor out. The inhibitor is there because I'm dangerous to
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: other people around me because my telepathy is too powerful. Okay,
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: So she pulls that out and then she directs her
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: uncontrollable telepathy towards specific people and it hurts them.
- 1:00:50Speaker 4: Beta Max, Beta Max.
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: And then the Beta Max theme starts and then we fade. So,
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: believe it or not, I didn't really have a problem
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: with okay, with with I did you did?
- 1:01:03Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:01:04Speaker 4: Yeah, I did. Because I was like, how is she
- 1:01:06Speaker 4: doing this?
- 1:01:07Speaker 7: Like through the through the my celial network, but she
- 1:01:11Speaker 7: like yells right and blows everyone's heads up. So she's
- 1:01:15Speaker 7: not there in the room yelling, and she like possessing
- 1:01:21Speaker 7: somebody there and yelling through their vocal co like no.
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: She's no, she's yelling where she is, and then she
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: is projecting that. She's projecting her anguish telepathically and overloading
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: and yeah, yeah, I mean, okay, So if I could
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: speak to you telepathically, Daniel, right now I'm speaking, I'm
- 1:01:47Speaker 2: speaking in a normal volume. If I get excited as
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: I'm speaking to you telepathically, I I I telepathy louder
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: at you, and and you can sense that is a
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: difference in what I'm saying now compared to what I say. Yeah,
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: if I telepathically scream at the top of my lungs,
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: that probably doesn't feel good inside of your head. Now,
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: multiply that by a million, because she's beta max and
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: and it overloads that part of your brain.
- 1:02:19Speaker 4: I get what happened. My thought is how did that?
- 1:02:25Speaker 6: So?
- 1:02:25Speaker 5: Okay, So, yes, their heads exploded because she she did
- 1:02:28Speaker 5: the yelling or whatever. That that's fine.
- 1:02:31Speaker 4: It's just How did the yell get into that room?
- 1:02:36Speaker 4: Is my question? This beta Max right, This is.
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: The same way, the same way any form of telepathy
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: moves from one person's head to another. Okay, there's there's
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: an imbalance of pretendium in her head.
- 1:02:54Speaker 5: Or or okay, or the other thing you could have
- 1:02:58Speaker 5: done is put me in a room with Paul your money.
- 1:03:00Speaker 5: I'll scan his brain and I'll get the information we
- 1:03:03Speaker 5: want out of him, instead of making a.
- 1:03:07Speaker 3: Deal with him.
- 1:03:09Speaker 4: Yeah again writing yeah, yeah, Scott's losing it. Scott's losing it.
- 1:03:18Speaker 4: He's turning red.
- 1:03:26Speaker 3: Oh my god, that's the funniest thing I've heard. Balance pendum.
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: So I use that all the time in Facebook groups,
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: whether whether it's whether it's a Back to the future,
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: whether it's a Back to the Future group or a
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: Star Wars group or a Star Trek group. When someone says,
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: you know, how does the enterprise travel at this speed
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: without the whole ripping apart as it's it's it's coded
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: with an alloy coled pretendium. Yeah, and it always gets
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: a laugh no matter how many times I use it.
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: So you could use that. That's too you you Scott
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: beta max beta max and pretending him perfect.
- 1:04:05Speaker 5: All right, Beta Max, Well we we should get the
- 1:04:10Speaker 5: listener feedback because we talked about her.
- 1:04:13Speaker 4: Yeah, Beta Max, all right, here we go.
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: Listener feedback.
- 1:04:23Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:04:24Speaker 5: Uh, if you want to join us, you can just
- 1:04:27Speaker 5: x up in the chat and we will send you
- 1:04:29Speaker 5: the link so you can join us. We do have
- 1:04:32Speaker 5: chasbits on the line, Scott, did you get that email?
- 1:04:34Speaker 5: We got an email from a listener?
- 1:04:36Speaker 3: You know what? I didn't even check my Yeah, che
- 1:04:40Speaker 3: let me bring him.
- 1:04:41Speaker 5: Chaz Biss and then and then we can do the
- 1:04:42Speaker 5: email after groups. All right, there's jazz biz.
- 1:04:46Speaker 4: Hey there you go.
- 1:04:51Speaker 3: There?
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: Yeah, can you hear me at all?
- 1:04:52Speaker 4: Okay? Now yeah, no can All right?
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: My mic wasn't close enough, I guess.
- 1:04:56Speaker 4: Okay, So would you think did you like the episode?
- 1:04:59Speaker 3: Well?
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: I was out of country and trying to watch this
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: show was kind of hard, so I had to watch
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: it on my phone and roll my eyes several times,
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: especially when he said spooch. Like when he said that line,
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: I was just like, I hope you know Paul Giamanni
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: knows what the hell that word means, you know, yeah,
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: because you know he's older than us, and he might
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: have like, oh, that's probably scientific or something or some
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: kind of slanging them made up.
- 1:05:32Speaker 4: I'm sure he's aware.
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: I'm sure he's aware.
- 1:05:35Speaker 4: But he goes to Hollywood parties. He knows what's up.
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: Yeah, but he is definitely the epitome of a mustache
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: toiling villain.
- 1:05:43Speaker 4: Yeah. I think the actor Paul Jimani is having a
- 1:05:47Speaker 4: blast plane.
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: Oh, I know he's having a blast.
- 1:05:50Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: I don't know if Holly Hunter's having a blast. I mean,
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: there's no telling how much volume they give her because
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: she's laying around everywhere with her feet showing so h
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: and man like that. Whoever's doing the audio on here,
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: it's really hard. I have to put the subtitles on
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: sometimes on some of the characters when they're speaking.
- 1:06:14Speaker 3: You know, Oh, I thought you were talking about on
- 1:06:16Speaker 3: Trek Cast.
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: No, I'm talking about I don't talk about.
- 1:06:21Speaker 3: It's good, okay, good.
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm just saying on Starfleet Academy, like, who's ever
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: doing the editing or whatever on the audio? It's sometimes
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: for all hardly you get the special effects coming through
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: your speakers, but you can't understand what they're saying, and
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: you see that on your subtitle. Spooch, You're just roll
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: your eyes and you're like Okay. Then I told my
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: wife about it and she's like, this is Spoochual.
- 1:06:47Speaker 3: Star Trek and like, yeah, I said, no they don't, but.
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: Well they do now.
- 1:06:54Speaker 4: But yeah, And what are you thinking of the show overall?
- 1:07:02Speaker 4: Are you liking it overall?
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: The last and there's business pieces I like about it.
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: I like this week's villains right right. I thought they're
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: pretty cool. I wish they would have ate the whole
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: cast and it'd have been awesome. And then Martin all
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: the kids die and then well that didn't work.
- 1:07:24Speaker 4: They're eating that one girl. Oh I find his combat
- 1:07:26Speaker 4: inside of her.
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: Yeah. Ye, all this left is the holographic girl. She's like,
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: oh no, they can't eat me, but I'm still alive.
- 1:07:34Speaker 3: So all they could they should have killed all the
- 1:07:36Speaker 3: Starfleet Academy people and just left the military war colleague.
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: I hate to saying. It's like it's sad when you
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: like slither In better than you know Gryffin door, right, yeah,
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: so when are they going to bring in the other
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: two colleges to compete with them?
- 1:07:57Speaker 3: So yeah, Science Academy, yes they have, Like oh yeah,
- 1:08:03Speaker 3: that'd be great. Like, well, I wonder if they are
- 1:08:04Speaker 3: going to bring in something like that, you know, like
- 1:08:07Speaker 3: we've got a visiting you know, Naval Academy from the
- 1:08:11Speaker 3: andorans or.
- 1:08:13Speaker 4: Oh that's kind of cool and.
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: College.
- 1:08:19Speaker 4: Well, the Klingons don't play nice with others.
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: So and okay, why cast a guy to play Klingon
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: and then you have to, like I call him other
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: tune kling On because that's not a zeral voice.
- 1:08:33Speaker 3: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, the decision, like they.
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: His voice to sound deeper and and everything.
- 1:08:40Speaker 3: Now he does. I saw a video of the actor
- 1:08:44Speaker 3: doing the voice addressed that, yeah, Jaden doing and he says,
- 1:08:50Speaker 3: now when I talk, you know, when I do the voice,
- 1:08:52Speaker 3: I talked down here and I did a voice coach.
- 1:08:55Speaker 3: But they do add a modulation to the voice, you know.
- 1:08:59Speaker 3: And I'm like, but why.
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: Yeah, they didn't have to do that with any other Klingon.
- 1:09:05Speaker 3: Why can't he just a single other Klingon, you know,
- 1:09:09Speaker 3: I mean, Michael Dorn never needed you know, a modulation, And.
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: Name any other Klingon that needed their voice modulated?
- 1:09:19Speaker 3: Well, and why would you do it? It's distracting.
- 1:09:23Speaker 4: Yeah, they didn't do it to Christopher Lloyd. They didn't
- 1:09:24Speaker 4: do it too.
- 1:09:25Speaker 3: I mean.
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: Or lor sir beator. Yeah, just think all the actors
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: who played Klingons.
- 1:09:34Speaker 3: If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: Yeah, so just make him sound like his true self.
- 1:09:40Speaker 3: It's like, want to lower it a little bit. Okay.
- 1:09:43Speaker 3: Klingons typically larger, taller, whatever.
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:09:46Speaker 3: If I was playing a Klingon, I would probably talk
- 1:09:48Speaker 3: in a you know, back, you know type of voice,
- 1:09:52Speaker 3: but I probably wouldn't talk up here racist Scott Rais,
- 1:10:00Speaker 3: you can write a letter to the Klingon.
- 1:10:04Speaker 4: I want the ned Flanders kling On now. Yeah. Yeah,
- 1:10:12Speaker 4: time for you to die. Okley buddies, that's awesome. Well,
- 1:10:22Speaker 4: what are you open to see in the last few episodes?
- 1:10:25Speaker 4: Anything that you're open for?
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: What everybody wants? Better writing? And yeah, it's just the
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: way it started. Like they started the show off with
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: the sex scene, right and they're playing this music from
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: Grey's Anatomy and like that right there, text me on
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: the shows like what am I watching? This isn't you know?
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: At least give us like a good star Trek theme
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: or or something to start the show off with. You
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: could have this the sex scene that you're doing, but
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: not like modern music.
- 1:10:57Speaker 3: I've also wanted to address the sex scene. I've reached
- 1:10:59Speaker 3: the age where I want the sex scene implied, but
- 1:11:05Speaker 3: I don't. I don't want to see it. Yeah, I
- 1:11:09Speaker 3: don't know what that means. I don't know what that
- 1:11:11Speaker 3: means for me.
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: You went to fade to black, like they go into
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: the room, hold hands, fade to fly and then start to.
- 1:11:18Speaker 3: Take the shirts off. And then yeah, I don't want
- 1:11:20Speaker 3: to see the actual act. I'd like to like the
- 1:11:23Speaker 3: intimacy coordinator, rocket.
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: Ships or the thing the trend going into the tunnel, and.
- 1:11:29Speaker 3: I want to see the cells shaking a little bit,
- 1:11:31Speaker 3: you know. Yeah, I want to see the warp core
- 1:11:34Speaker 3: kind of rumbling.
- 1:11:36Speaker 5: I mean there, they're supposed to be in a college, right,
- 1:11:38Speaker 5: Where was the sock on the doorknob?
- 1:11:40Speaker 3: Right? You know?
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: So Scott, when you were in basic training, Oh, here
- 1:11:47Speaker 2: we go. When you were in basic training, were there
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: were there female privates with you?
- 1:11:55Speaker 3: Yes? There were?
- 1:11:56Speaker 2: And and were you allowed Were you allowed access to
- 1:11:59Speaker 2: the dormitory area?
- 1:12:01Speaker 3: Absolutely not.
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: What was the penalty if you were found in the female.
- 1:12:06Speaker 3: Dorm Big trouble, huge, huge, huge, huge trouble, matter of fact,
- 1:12:12Speaker 3: matter of fact, on my on my second tour. Okay,
- 1:12:18Speaker 3: we're talking like two thousand and eight, two thousand and nine,
- 1:12:21Speaker 3: when we were in Iraq, we weren't the males and
- 1:12:23Speaker 3: the females were not allowed to be in each other's rooms.
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: Yeakay, yeah, so.
- 1:12:30Speaker 3: Yeah, that's that would not be acceptable behavior in any
- 1:12:34Speaker 3: kind of you know, military. It's called maintaining military bearing. Yes, okay,
- 1:12:38Speaker 3: it's about discipline, maintaining military bearing. That's that's not a
- 1:12:42Speaker 3: person in front of your CEO. That's that that kind
- 1:12:44Speaker 3: of thing.
- 1:12:45Speaker 2: It's it's but particularly this I can remember, there were
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: specific lines like physical lines. You're not allowed down this hallway. Yeah,
- 1:12:55Speaker 2: and if you are found on the other side of
- 1:12:57Speaker 2: this line down this hallway, there will be hell to pay.
- 1:13:01Speaker 3: Oh yeah, major consequences. Yep.
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: I don't think there's any discipline on this show or
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: anybody's read anything, a handbook, anything like bring in a supervisor,
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: show them how a military college would you know, operate.
- 1:13:19Speaker 3: Yeah, medory like moderate discipline like they've seen. We've seen
- 1:13:25Speaker 3: like court martials, like you'll be reduced in rank and
- 1:13:28Speaker 3: you're going to the brig and we've seen you know,
- 1:13:31Speaker 3: I'm gonna let this slide. I'd like to see you're
- 1:13:34Speaker 3: gonna get a field grade Article fifteen, and you're gonna
- 1:13:36Speaker 3: be doing you know, crappy work for the next two weeks. Yeah,
- 1:13:42Speaker 3: there's there's there's no in between.
- 1:13:44Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: I was hoping that Wesley Crusher come back as the
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: Traveler shown the starbursts from Maneuver and they all crashed
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: intoto each other.
- 1:13:54Speaker 3: And you guys really want to go out of blazing glory?
- 1:14:01Speaker 4: Will Bill not so wild?
- 1:14:03Speaker 5: The sex scene took me, took me out, but them
- 1:14:06Speaker 5: intimacy was important to explain the psychic connection with doing them.
- 1:14:09Speaker 4: Yeah, long on it.
- 1:14:11Speaker 3: Yeah, there's other.
- 1:14:12Speaker 2: Ways they could have opened up. They could have opened
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: up with with the two of them embracing each other
- 1:14:21Speaker 2: and the show and the scene goes exactly the same. Yeah,
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: except you don't see any of the the stuff right right.
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: Right towards you should have. They're in the scene talking
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: to each other, but really they're having sex mm hmm afterwards.
- 1:14:39Speaker 4: Yeah, like they're in the minefield.
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: Yeah, they're in the minefield and they're like, oh wow,
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: they're doing it, but we don't realize it.
- 1:14:47Speaker 5: That would have been interesting, is you just see them
- 1:14:49Speaker 5: walking through this field and you're like, where the hell
- 1:14:50Speaker 5: are these people and they're just talking and then it
- 1:14:53Speaker 5: it's revealed what they're doing.
- 1:14:55Speaker 2: Or or they're in the rec room or some place.
- 1:15:00Speaker 2: Take the sex out of it for a minute, because
- 1:15:02Speaker 2: the point is to show her abilities, right right, right, Okay,
- 1:15:06Speaker 2: So instead they're in the rec room waiting for this
- 1:15:08Speaker 2: assignment to start, they have some time to kill or whatever,
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: and they're they're just talking and he says something to
- 1:15:14Speaker 2: the effect of, I wish we had access to a holodeck.
- 1:15:18Speaker 2: I would love to I would love to show you
- 1:15:20Speaker 2: the such and such river on this planet that I
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: went to. And she says to him, we don't need
- 1:15:26Speaker 2: a halo deck, and she reaches out and embraces his
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: hand and suddenly they're there the place that he wanted
- 1:15:33Speaker 2: to show her. They're there, and he.
- 1:15:35Speaker 4: Says, what what is this?
- 1:15:36Speaker 2: How is this possible? Oh, we're in your mind. This
- 1:15:39Speaker 2: is something I can do.
- 1:15:40Speaker 3: Now.
- 1:15:40Speaker 2: They just they just accomplished everything that they accomplished in
- 1:15:45Speaker 2: this other scene, except it's not cringe. They cut right
- 1:15:50Speaker 2: to the chase. It's actually kind of sweet.
- 1:15:53Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:15:54Speaker 5: The other thing too, is like she's telling them about
- 1:15:57Speaker 5: other species and what they do at one point, but
- 1:16:02Speaker 5: like literally The last episode was all about how he
- 1:16:05Speaker 5: knows about everything and he's so smart and like, so.
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah I'm Jean Gray where she's too powerful in
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: there and she's gonna turn into the phoenix.
- 1:16:21Speaker 4: Well and so.
- 1:16:23Speaker 2: Sorry, no, I was just gonna say, you know, she's
- 1:16:26Speaker 2: super powerful, she's Beta Max.
- 1:16:30Speaker 4: Her brother is there?
- 1:16:31Speaker 2: Also?
- 1:16:33Speaker 4: What is his Yeah?
- 1:16:35Speaker 2: I know he doesn't have the thing, but what is
- 1:16:37Speaker 2: his level of ability?
- 1:16:40Speaker 4: We don't have the touch or the power.
- 1:16:42Speaker 2: Yeah, we don't see him do anything.
- 1:16:46Speaker 4: So I got chasm with that. Oh I know why?
- 1:16:49Speaker 4: You know, Yeah, he.
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: Doesn't have the matrix of leadership.
- 1:16:54Speaker 4: He does not like, he's not gonna go auto box
- 1:16:58Speaker 4: and roll out.
- 1:16:59Speaker 2: Listen, there's a tub right there to my left, sure
- 1:17:03Speaker 2: full of transformers. Don't make me pull them out?
- 1:17:08Speaker 4: Amazing?
- 1:17:10Speaker 2: No, yeah, So what's the deal with him? Does is
- 1:17:13Speaker 2: he a regular Beta's head? Is he like does skip
- 1:17:18Speaker 2: a generation or something? Does he not have the touch
- 1:17:22Speaker 2: at all?
- 1:17:24Speaker 4: Is he ashamed of? I mean, is the dad gonna
- 1:17:28Speaker 4: flip out and they lose Beta's head?
- 1:17:29Speaker 5: Because I mean they we just did an episode about
- 1:17:32Speaker 5: how precarious that realignment was.
- 1:17:35Speaker 4: So she she's not dead, right, She's she's not dead,
- 1:17:38Speaker 4: she's injured. Yeah, right, but what would that be enough
- 1:17:42Speaker 4: for the dad to be like, you can't you're not
- 1:17:43Speaker 4: taking care of my daughter. Look what happened?
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: Weapon? Yeah?
- 1:17:48Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, And then Beta's head pulls out?
- 1:17:51Speaker 6: So is uh.
- 1:17:54Speaker 3: Twelve?
- 1:17:55Speaker 2: What's his name?
- 1:17:59Speaker 4: What's what's this your mom watches?
- 1:18:02Speaker 3: Watching?
- 1:18:03Speaker 2: Now?
- 1:18:03Speaker 3: Hi? Mom?
- 1:18:05Speaker 2: What's his name? The main character Jacob Mirror.
- 1:18:10Speaker 3: Mirror? Yeah?
- 1:18:11Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah yeah.
- 1:18:13Speaker 2: Is he gonna have to so this all right? So
- 1:18:16Speaker 2: here's my prediction, because he's the last one who had
- 1:18:19Speaker 2: who had access to the inside of her head. Yeah,
- 1:18:23Speaker 2: he's gonna does Does he have to? Does he have
- 1:18:27Speaker 2: to go into like Calma World next week to show
- 1:18:31Speaker 2: her the way and show her the way out?
- 1:18:34Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:18:36Speaker 4: Like I can't find my mom, but I can find
- 1:18:38Speaker 4: my girlfriend. Yeah yeah.
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: And you know the secret weapons he's talking about is
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: his mom's Paul Giamoni, Like he has something that he's hiding. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: I bet it's the kid's mom and she's going to
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: do something we.
- 1:18:53Speaker 5: Need They imply something that like because they had sex,
- 1:18:58Speaker 5: that's what makes the connection that they can read each
- 1:19:01Speaker 5: other's lines. He's gonna have a fun time explaining that
- 1:19:05Speaker 5: to the dad next episode.
- 1:19:07Speaker 2: Until until everybody's like, but I could hear her too, right, right?
- 1:19:14Speaker 4: What's going on to work? College?
- 1:19:17Speaker 3: Hear yeah?
- 1:19:21Speaker 4: Boothby is like I hear yeah, Oh that's hilarious.
- 1:19:28Speaker 2: Scott's something.
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: Okay, last week's episode, what'd you think of Tony Knews
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: playing backs?
- 1:19:36Speaker 3: I liked it? Yeah, I didn't like it.
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: I thought she wrote herself in the show for that, so.
- 1:19:41Speaker 2: I uh, she is such a beauty. She is such
- 1:19:47Speaker 2: a beautiful woman. I wish they had picked some better prosthetics.
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: Yes, yes, yes, I thought.
- 1:19:55Speaker 2: I was like, I was wondering if they were trying
- 1:19:57Speaker 2: to hide that.
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: I think they're trying to hide you, trying to hide
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: the trail Scotts.
- 1:20:02Speaker 3: Halfway through the episode, I'm like, wait a minute.
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: They should have given her long hair to cover it
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: or something and covering Actually, yeah, I think they were.
- 1:20:12Speaker 5: Hiding it because we've seen her as Mariner, so we
- 1:20:15Speaker 5: can't we can't have her look too much like Mariner.
- 1:20:18Speaker 4: Okay, that's my.
- 1:20:19Speaker 3: Fact, because that's last That's when my wife ruined it
- 1:20:22Speaker 3: for me. When she like looked it up, She's like, oh, yeah,
- 1:20:24Speaker 3: she's playing Islid Dax, And I'm like wait what.
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: The same thing happened to me because I couldn't get
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: the app to work when I was you know, I
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: was in Italy and for some reason, like when you're
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: out of country, it doesn't work, like Paramount was being goofy.
- 1:20:41Speaker 5: So yeah, that's what happens. All right, Well, thanks for
- 1:20:47Speaker 5: being on Chas biz. We still got that email to

- 1:21:15Speaker 3: of Devaal Yeah, yeah, okay, Hey there, trek Cast, it's
- 1:21:20Speaker 3: your Trekcast New York City Course Freelance correspondence number one
- 1:21:26Speaker 3: with some thoughts on episode six. Devall's out on assignment.
- 1:21:29Speaker 3: I think he's just tied in the bathroom, keeps complaining
- 1:21:31Speaker 3: about crappy crappy rock to gino oh no, first pointing out, yeah,
- 1:21:37Speaker 3: what a great shot of the Stanley water bottles. Nice
- 1:21:39Speaker 3: to know they still exist and survive. The safest place
- 1:21:44Speaker 3: she Knows is a nineties rock music video reminding me
- 1:21:47Speaker 3: of No Rain by Blind Melon. For some reason, uh,
- 1:21:51Speaker 3: this extremely poor judgment with no backup plan just in
- 1:21:53Speaker 3: case anything could go wrong. It's an abandoned ship, so
- 1:21:56Speaker 3: with that, no one could possibly find a place to
- 1:21:59Speaker 3: do their own thing like somebody else could come in,
- 1:22:03Speaker 3: similar to us humanoids exploring abandoned sponsor places. Even with
- 1:22:06Speaker 3: the regards to your students, keeping safety in mind, not
- 1:22:08Speaker 3: having an extra security detail outside or around the abandoned
- 1:22:11Speaker 3: ship you This alien pirate has a horrible wheeze and
- 1:22:15Speaker 3: their potato sack face kept reminding me of The Stranger's movie.
- 1:22:20Speaker 3: Side note, every time I hear this theme song, I
- 1:22:22Speaker 3: keep on picturing an Asian drama and gets my brain
- 1:22:25Speaker 3: disoriented and forget they're supposed to be a star trek.
- 1:22:27Speaker 3: Why is it whimsy? Back on track? I honestly wonder
- 1:22:31Speaker 3: how the explanation to the families went that the students
- 1:22:33Speaker 3: at the beginning of the year died in a prime
- 1:22:37Speaker 3: account of irresponsibility for a team building exercise that they
- 1:22:40Speaker 3: could have learned in some other capacity. Fun fact, it's
- 1:22:43Speaker 3: my first time telling the computer to send this log. Yeah,
