- 0:00Speaking of gatekeeping. If you guys think people are
- 0:05funny about roads, wait till you get to events at car week.
- 0:09Boy, that is a whole shebang. This week on that car show, my
- 0:15M3 rises from the dead. It's back on track.
- 0:18We talk about Dinos and how people feel about them, and
- 0:23Ryan's going to explore the genesis of the family sedan.
- 0:28There's a serious debate about gatekeeping and we share what
- 0:34we're up to next. We're that car show.
- 0:36Thanks for joining us. You can cut that last part.
- 0:39Hey folks, and welcome to this week's episode of that car show.
- 0:43The gang is all back together this week.
- 0:46I think to increase the YouTube following we need to mention
- 0:49things like hardcore drugs. What else?
- 0:55What else do we need to mention to get that algorithm?
- 0:57Human trafficking, cartels. Car theft.
- 1:03AK-40 Sevens. Politics to get into politics.
- 1:08Yeah. And then maybe religion.
- 1:09So the the inside joke there is that we're on YouTube as well as
- 1:13obviously all the the different Spotify and Apple and everything
- 1:16else. But our YouTube channel kind of
- 1:18blew up because I think we have the name Cannabis in the title
- 1:21of the last last week's episode, so.
- 1:24That Brian's got a lot of friends.
- 1:26Yeah, yeah. Why not both?
- 1:29Maybe that's it. Good to have another crew show
- 1:32this week and good to see you folks.
- 1:35What have you guys been up to? I'm fresh off a track day.
- 1:39Today was. That the M3.
- 1:41Yes, it was back out on track for the first time in at least
- 1:45six years, but probably more. Yeah.
- 1:47So Performance, which is the driving school out at Pacific
- 1:50Raceways and they're in Kent, WA, but that's the local track
- 1:55for the Seattle area. They this was their 23rd year
- 1:59doing a women's track day and they call it women setting the
- 2:01pace. And so Don and Donna Kitsch run
- 2:04the school and their daughter Sienna is now in charge of
- 2:07marketing, I believe. And so they were running the
- 2:10event and they did a little kind of look back retrospective of
- 2:15the school and how they got started.
- 2:17And Donna said this was their 23rd year hosting.
- 2:20She said it took, you know, when they first started doing it,
- 2:23there were so few women participating that it was like a
- 2:26couple women and then the rest were men.
- 2:29And she said it took 10 years to get to the point where it was
- 2:31enough women for a full event dedicated just to women.
- 2:35But this year they had two full days, sold out both days.
- 2:40So. And it was like when I pulled
- 2:42into the paddock this morning, I went, oh, my gosh, it's busy,
- 2:45which is a good sign. So it was really fun.
- 2:48I was able to take the M3, which was really cool, you know, and
- 2:53thanks to my super amazing fiance, obviously, for all of
- 2:56his effort. We discovered tonight that the
- 2:59PPF that he finished taking off yesterday, which looked like it
- 3:04was a science experiment PPF, was put on the car in 1998.
- 3:09Oh my God, they had PPF in 1990? Eight well and so I have the
- 3:14original invoice because the original owner is the one that
- 3:16put it on and PPF wasn't a common thing like it is today in
- 3:2198 and and it was not even close to the full car and it was $450
- 3:27in 1998 that. Just sounds like a big roll of
- 3:29sellotape, isn't it you? Would think well and we
- 3:33discovered it was on the headlights too because they
- 3:36looked like they. Had just plastic.
- 3:38It looked like they had just clouded over and then he was
- 3:40like wait a minute this is PPF. Peeled it off and the headlights
- 3:44look good as new. Wow, he's a hell of a guy.
- 3:46I've got a couple of stalled projects around my place if you.
- 3:49Want to? I'll send him to Denver as soon
- 3:51as he's done here so expect him in like 3 years.
- 3:54Well, if you don't know this car was this car sat this was your
- 3:57old track car E36 awesome silver 4 door M3 and it had literally
- 4:02been sitting for how many years? I it was parked in 20/19/2019
- 4:07and then I have towed it with me as as I've moved in the
- 4:11intervening years wondering why I was dragging this giant
- 4:14automotive paperweight with me and like questioning.
- 4:18But thank goodness I did because it runs better than it ever has
- 4:22in my entire ownership. And it was really cool to be out
- 4:27on the track in it today because when I bought it, I was so
- 4:31determined that I had to find a 4 door so I could take people in
- 4:34it. And then then after that, I got
- 4:36into high performance driving and the car evolved into a track
- 4:39car. It now has no back seat.
- 4:41It has a half cage. So Needless to say, I'm not
- 4:43taking people in it, certainly not in the back seat.
- 4:47And it was really, really fun. It was fun to be out on the
- 4:52track period because it's been very sporadic for me in the last
- 4:55few years. And most recently it's been out
- 4:57at Big Willow. So it had been the last time I
- 5:00was out at Pacific. Donna and I were talking about
- 5:02it, I think it was 2020, 2 for another Women's Day.
- 5:07So it's been a few years since I've been out on track there.
- 5:09I've been at Willow in the meantime.
- 5:11But it was really cool because the driving line came back
- 5:14really easily, like the muscle memory.
- 5:17But I feel like I do like, for whatever reason, I now am able
- 5:22to feel the balance of the car better.
- 5:25Like that was always a struggle for me when I was learning
- 5:27because they'd say like, Oh yeah, you know, you'll feel it,
- 5:30you know, wait different ways or like you'll get, you know,
- 5:32information through your seat. And I could never feel it.
- 5:36And I think partly because the car was set up so stiffly.
- 5:39But I think driving the different Mustangs helped
- 5:42because they're heavier enough that it's gave me a sense for
- 5:46that. And so I think I picked up on
- 5:48what I should be feeling and I'm now I can find that in the M3.
- 5:53So that was really cool. And then just learning to trust
- 5:57the car again. And there was a little bit of
- 6:00like when I did the Defender event and we did the downhill,
- 6:03yeah, you have to take your foot off the brake and you're not
- 6:06breaking going down the hill, which is counterintuitive, sure,
- 6:09but it makes you trust the equipment.
- 6:11And so trusting, you know, when the braking zone ends, like
- 6:14trusting the car to take my foot off the brake.
- 6:16And just like, no, the car has the grip, you just have to trust
- 6:19it. So it was really cool.
- 6:22You got you. Went in a brand new Corvette.
- 6:24I don't know you folks have seen the video, but at Laguna Seca,
- 6:28OH. My gosh.
- 6:29The the brakes failed on the Corvette and at the Corkscrew
- 6:34and it just kept going. This is break by wire right?
- 6:37This is. So what went wrong?
- 6:39This was a. Discussion.
- 6:41A line of code. I mean, what had they been
- 6:43modified? I mean, you know, apparently
- 6:45because this wouldn't happen in a 30 year old E36 by the way,
- 6:49when the E36 get to be 30 years old.
- 6:53I don't. I don't know because I'm only
- 6:5435, so that math does. So what what's the consensus,
- 7:00sorry on the on the Corvette? Like what can you describe what
- 7:03happened? Because it was a very dramatic
- 7:05video. Yeah, so at the top of Laguna
- 7:08Seiko, it's you ascend up to the top of the hill of the track at
- 7:11the far back of the track. And then you get, you know, you
- 7:14come face to face with the Corkscrew right, Which is the
- 7:17very high gradient, you know, left turn, right turn that takes
- 7:22you down through part of the track, but at a a large
- 7:26elevation drop. So at this first corner, instead
- 7:29of turning left, you obviously break to to make the corner.
- 7:34The car kept going on, went through the the soundtrack or
- 7:37the the stone track and just completely fell apart.
- 7:40Luckily, the guy driving it walked away.
- 7:43Right. But it's not, you know, it's
- 7:46it's all trust in that car is gone.
- 7:48Yeah. Well, and he I think what was
- 7:50so, I mean, the video was so dramatic and obviously it looked
- 7:54like he was going to be seriously injured, if not more.
- 7:57But yeah, the entire right side of the car slammed into the tire
- 8:00wall like almost at speed because the like you said Dan,
- 8:03like the dirt didn't slow him down at all.
- 8:06And I think, correct me if I'm wrong, but it's the back
- 8:09straight going into the Corkscrew.
- 8:11So you've built up a lot of speed and then you need to
- 8:14brake. And so not only was he, did he
- 8:18not have brakes, but he had built up more speed than other
- 8:20portions of the track, I think. So it just exacerbated it.
- 8:24Yeah, you are going uphill before you hit the.
- 8:27So you do lose a little bit of speed, but I'm curious then.
- 8:31So now the PPF is gone, does that mean it's time to put a
- 8:33livery on that BMW? And I think our listeners should
- 8:37tell us what livery you should put on that car.
- 8:39Oh, I like that idea. Yeah, send in.
- 8:42Send in your submissions. I want to see and then we'll
- 8:46pick a winner. Keep it clean.
- 8:49If we're, if we're, if we're saying like anything's on the
- 8:53table. I am partial to the Mercedes
- 8:56that Tori and I saw that was covered in purple Muppet fur at
- 8:59Crystal Co in April. I mean.
- 9:02That's just going to mess with your arrow.
- 9:05Yeah, it's, it's not good. And we saw the day we saw it, it
- 9:07had been raining. And I'm like, oh, if that's ever
- 9:10an advertisement for don't cover your car with fur, yeah, 'cause
- 9:14it, it rains. Yeah, no, definitely, definitely
- 9:16considering like some M stripes or something at a minimum.
- 9:19But you know, I'm, I'm open to people's amazing ideas.
- 9:24So let's let's hear it. Yeah, there were quite a few
- 9:26famous BMW liveries, right? Yeah, things like Ozbeer and
- 9:31Hofmeister and. Do a car do a a Jackson Pollock
- 9:36or something right? Like an art car.
- 9:38Yeah, it'd be cool. I don't think they ever did an
- 9:41E30. 6:00 But that would be the. That's why it's clever.
- 9:45Yeah, I love it. No.
- 9:46I think he's juniors. I'm not saying he's.
- 9:47Not clever. Yeah, because it hasn't been
- 9:49done yet. Right.
- 9:50And maybe that's the plan. You went to art college?
- 9:53Yeah, that's. Right.
- 9:55Guys, I've got five more months of student loan payments and
- 9:59then I'm free. Woo Hoo.
- 10:02I'm 50 I'll be turning it's the day I turned 5th.
- 10:04But no, it'll actually I will have been 50 for a couple months
- 10:08when it's all said and. Done close enough, good enough
- 10:10for government work. So I think maybe, yeah, You
- 10:13know, I try to do like an art piece anytime I move.
- 10:16And so maybe this time the art piece is something that moves
- 10:19and that's the family art project.
- 10:21This summer we splatter the car or.
- 10:25Something like that. Has Banksy ever done a car?
- 10:27Could you do something like terribly ironic that, you know,
- 10:30with commentary on like the state of the world?
- 10:33Just tape a banana on the roof and see how long.
- 10:35You last. Yeah, then sell the pieces when
- 10:41you're right the. Shredder runs.
- 10:44Yeah, yeah. Speaking of shredded, how about
- 10:47that Nurburgring crash with the GT3RS and what was it it Was it
- 10:51an M3? M2.
- 10:53M2 Yeah. And people have been going back
- 10:55and forth about whose fault it was.
- 10:57I think the best sort of most tempered opinion I've heard on
- 11:02this is, is it Misha Choudrin who does the Nurburgring YouTube
- 11:06channel? Yeah.
- 11:07And, you know, basically said it, why does it have to be one
- 11:09person's fault, right? You know, it's a track day.
- 11:12So you have, you know, at least in the Nurburgring, you have St.
- 11:15rules, right? You know, if you get in a crash,
- 11:17it's investigated by the Pulitzi and all this.
- 11:20And so it wasn't one person, it wasn't the other.
- 11:24But yeah. And that's another one where I
- 11:27thought for sure there'd be a death.
- 11:28And I think. Yeah, it did not.
- 11:30I mean, and I've seen pictures of the guy in the 9/11, Yeah,
- 11:34and, and there was some and he didn't even have, he may have
- 11:38had a helmet, definitely didn't have a.
- 11:40No, I don't think he even had a helmet.
- 11:41I think that's is he didn't have a helmet, so definitely didn't
- 11:44have a Hans. Yeah.
- 11:45And his injuries for not having a helmet and as severe as that
- 11:49crash was, I mean, it's incredible.
- 11:52But yeah, I heard some, like some of Misha's kind of
- 11:55evaluation of it too. And one thing that I thought was
- 11:59interesting is he was talking about, and this goes for a lot
- 12:01of events and a lot of driving, you know, if you're the slower
- 12:04car, it's your responsibility to like, obviously not cut over in
- 12:08front of something and that kind of thing.
- 12:09And it looked like that might have happened with the M2.
- 12:13But like, to your point, Ryan, it's your job to just be aware.
- 12:17Like if you're on the track, like I always, I always joke
- 12:20that I excel at traffic management, but it's like
- 12:23joking, not joking. Because really I just try to be
- 12:25aware of where everybody is. And there was a little bit of a
- 12:29like something could have been tricky today where I think it
- 12:33was an honest miscommunication, but the person like interpreted
- 12:37that they were being pointed by when they weren't.
- 12:39And it was at a time where the other car was about to come over
- 12:44into where they were going to be.
- 12:46So like, ultimately it's everybody's responsibility.
- 12:50Yeah, yeah, yeah. So on a different note and a
- 12:54less probably less morbid note, Ryan, the last time I was on
- 12:57this podcast, you were trying to hunt down a specific car that
- 13:01you had promised, been promised for an article, and the car had
- 13:06disappeared. Yeah.
- 13:08Is there an update? Low so many weeks ago.
- 13:12Yeah. Yeah.
- 13:12So this is a car, guys, I didn't even know existed.
- 13:14Do you know about the Genesis G90?
- 13:17Yes. Okay, I don't think I've ever
- 13:20seen one. I don't know.
- 13:21That you see that was it the GX-90, the SUV you see the
- 13:24smaller sedans now and again, but but this is their $90,000
- 13:28plus luxury sedan, right? So at least on paper it plays in
- 13:32the same you know space is like an S class or A7 series even if
- 13:35the price point is lower. This is actually I take it back.
- 13:39This is the one I just saw Lamont.
- 13:41They're they're pretty good looking, you know, and and and
- 13:43Genesis is killing it with these wheel doesn't yet.
- 13:45They're massive, right? They're my doc esque.
- 13:48Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean it, it looks like, it
- 13:51looks like it's an expensive car, right.
- 13:53And hopefully they'll drive like when I have driven the SUV, I've
- 13:55driven some of the smaller sedans, you know, but but but
- 14:00Genesis is, you know, I don't know if the styling is for
- 14:03everyone, but they're doing some cool things.
- 14:05I think they are at the top of the the wheel game right now.
- 14:08They're doing some like fractal inspired designs.
- 14:11But anyway, I wanted to get this for a week just to just to see
- 14:15what it's all about. I pitched an article that
- 14:17Autoblog tell me if this is clever or if it's just stupid.
- 14:21But the title Kennedy family dot dot dot sedan, because no one,
- 14:27no one shops sedans, right? No, no family in their right
- 14:32mind in 2025 is buying a sedan, right.
- 14:34And, but, but I, I think even here in Colorado where you know,
- 14:37everyone you know thinks they need an SUV or needs a
- 14:40crossover, I think it's a compelling case because it sure
- 14:43seems to be a hell, you know, a hell of a car, but it's been AI.
- 14:47Guess what I'm getting at is there, there aren't many.
- 14:49I think there's like 1 bouncing around in the press fleet and,
- 14:53you know, right, if I wanted an SUV, you know, would have had
- 14:56one the next day. But I, I want to be, I guess,
- 14:59contrarian and, and try the sedan and, and so I get one week
- 15:04after next to spend the week with it.
- 15:06I'm really excited. That's amazing because I, yeah,
- 15:09it's been a while since I've been in like a luxury sedan,
- 15:12right? Of any ilk.
- 15:14Yeah. And we've had this conversation
- 15:16before. Like what, you know what, what
- 15:18constitutes luxury in 2025, right?
- 15:21You know, it used to be, you know, build quality, right?
- 15:24And then I think it was materials and then it was tech.
- 15:27Well, now everything is built well, everything has decent
- 15:29materials and and and everything has tech, right?
- 15:33So where does that leave this car?
- 15:34So I'm excited about it. Thank you, Genesis.
- 15:36I know it's been a lot of doing to get this and it hasn't
- 15:40happened yet, but I'm excited. This is why this job is good
- 15:45guys, right? This is this, this thing we do
- 15:47has its perks because basically I'm giving this car for a week
- 15:50and basically told to take it, you know, take your family on
- 15:52vacation, right? I I still don't think we'll eat
- 15:54in it much like our own vehicles, but it'll it'll be
- 15:57fun. Do you know anything about this
- 15:59car? I mean what?
- 16:01Outside of seeing it and being, you know, very confused because
- 16:05it looked so my Bach esque, it has.
- 16:08Such a present, yeah. Like, yeah, like I saw it.
- 16:10It was out. There were three of them in the
- 16:12parking lot. Like the field in Lamont where?
- 16:16You are wondering Ryan's getting one of those 3.
- 16:19They're like it has been awesome.
- 16:20Myers makes plane right now. But it, you know, like we saw it
- 16:26from a distance and went, we have to go see what that is.
- 16:29Yeah, we had to get up close. So it definitely, like, has a
- 16:32presence. The design, like, was intriguing
- 16:35enough when we were like, wait a minute, like, yeah, because it's
- 16:38massive. But we knew it wasn't anything
- 16:41we'd ever seen before. No.
- 16:42And you just, again, you never see them.
- 16:44We were talking with their buddy Michael Osasso, who's been on
- 16:46the show before, before this episode, and we were talking
- 16:48about the Hummer HUV. I'm sorry, Evie rather.
- 16:53And you know, when is the last time you saw one of those?
- 16:54We had one at car week last last year and and car week is coming
- 16:58up again and I I think I've maybe seen two or three in the
- 17:01the year. That's, you know, years since,
- 17:02but I'm seeing. A lot of those up here all of a
- 17:06sudden. Up in Seattle, Yeah, Yeah.
- 17:08Well. Leaf stools.
- 17:11I don't know. Yeah, so.
- 17:14Well, I'm, I'm excited about this thing.
- 17:15You know again, I've not been in a luxury sedan like that of that
- 17:19size right of that bulk in a long time.
- 17:22It'll be very interesting. I think the design, the exterior
- 17:27design is a little discombobulated, but we'll see
- 17:31we'll see what it looks like in person and hell, after seeing
- 17:34that new Bentley sedan, this thing looks like Miss America.
- 17:39So I was it was it Lieberman that posted the two cars, posted
- 17:45a a a poll about the was it the, what was the concept?
- 17:49Was it the 1000 over the beautiful Bentley sedan that was
- 17:52kind of like a hyper exaggerated version of the current sedan?
- 17:54And then there is this new thing which looks a bit like Jaguar,
- 17:59the thing that they came. Yeah, yeah.
- 18:03It's now like a reflex. It's not.
- 18:06It's not me. Jaguar.
- 18:07Sorry, Jaguar. Jaguar, Yeah.
- 18:09I even said it today to the head of marketing at Jaguar.
- 18:13So just as a heads up for North America.
- 18:15Nice. Well, you know, I'm a stickler
- 18:17for Porsche, so I probably should be a stickler for Jaguar.
- 18:20There we go. Yeah, I wasn't, Somebody said
- 18:22somebody said Porsche within earshot at Rent Port.
- 18:25And I was like, are we being serious?
- 18:28It's it's Dan, it's it's your countrymen, it's your your
- 18:31fellow British car media people who they hedge their bets and
- 18:34they will actively say both ways in any, you know, production,
- 18:38right, That's funny. We'll pick a, pick a side.
- 18:40I had a press car last weekend so I.
- 18:46It might be cooler than the one tell us about.
- 18:49It might be Quaker, I'm not sure if it.
- 18:50Was luxurious. So I was lucky enough to have
- 18:53the keys to a Mustang dark horse for the weekend.
- 18:57So this is obviously not going to be the most highest
- 18:59performance Mustang what they do, but it's one down.
- 19:03This is 500 horsepower. It was a manual.
- 19:06It had there's a tuning kit for it that the Ford make.
- 19:11So it was about $75,000 and which for $75,000 or even
- 19:1665,000. I don't think there's many other
- 19:19cars you can get with 500 horsepowers there.
- 19:22I can't think of any other. Maybe you get AC-8 for that or.
- 19:27For how much? What's I mean the base, I think
- 19:29the base price of it was like 65,000.
- 19:31I think isn't a Corvette closer to 80?
- 19:35Now. Stripping the screen.
- 19:37Yeah, and maybe, maybe again, we'll ask our viewers and
- 19:39listeners to tell us brand new cars what's the cheapest way to
- 19:43get into 500 horsepower, which in essence is the same as the
- 19:47GT3 right now. It is, it is.
- 19:50And we should probably qualify that with gasoline powered
- 19:54horsepower, right, Because I think they're probably some oh,
- 19:57that's true. Yeah.
- 19:58So probably some electric deals, right which which would?
- 20:00Qualify, which would get you in. That's a really good point.
- 20:02So anyway, I had the stuff for the weekend.
- 20:04Yeah, So what? Did you think?
- 20:06So it was good. I did a lot of Canyon carving.
- 20:12So I don't know. Have you guys been to the Rock
- 20:14Shop? No, only seen in.
- 20:16Pictures. Yeah, this is a location up in
- 20:19the Malibu hills and it's a diner coffee, but it's not a a
- 20:23big place. But all around there, there are
- 20:26some fantastic Canyon driving roads.
- 20:29This has been a bike destination for a long time, right?
- 20:32Like. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 20:34It's a big bike location, so it was manual.
- 20:38They do do an automatic as well, but I had the manual 1.
- 20:42I guess my high level commentary is the car makes you work for
- 20:46it, but it's worth the work it. Should work out.
- 20:51Than a Porsche, right? Yeah.
- 20:52You know, you're having to find your gears.
- 20:54You're having to, you know, really manage that weight
- 20:57because it's a heavier car. Yeah, but it was a lot of fun.
- 21:01I don't know. Lindsay, have you driven a dark
- 21:02horse? I haven't, but I was thinking
- 21:04when you were, it sounds like it may be the modern equivalent to
- 21:09like when they came out with the GT350R because it was in that
- 21:12price point. Yeah.
- 21:14And as far as like getting a performance car for that price,
- 21:18that was one of the few at the time and maybe it sounds like
- 21:22like that's the current. Offering natural, natural
- 21:24progression. But I love that you had the
- 21:26manual. You drew a GT3 comparison, would
- 21:28this sort of be the GT3 to like the GTS Carrera S?
- 21:32Because what are you getting over the GTI?
- 21:33Guess this is my question. The.
- 21:36GT you're getting. You mean the yeah the GT which
- 21:39is the V8? Right, right, right.
- 21:41So. You're getting better handling,
- 21:43you're getting a different gearbox because you can get, I
- 21:45think the V8 in a, but this is a, what's the right name of it?
- 21:49Traumatic. No, it's very.
- 21:52Trimic. Trimic It was traumatic for my
- 21:55passengers for. Trimic, who is your passenger
- 21:58Dan like good on them for? Brilliant flip.
- 22:01Yeah, various, various people that wanted white knuckle rides,
- 22:05But you get a better gearbox, better brakes.
- 22:07It's got big Bosch brakes, you know, Is it Bosch?
- 22:11It's not Bosch is. It Brembo.
- 22:13Brembo I I need. But Bosch makes a mean fridge,
- 22:16I'll tell you. That There we go.
- 22:17Yeah, the. Brakes.
- 22:18They used to make spark plugs. There we go.
- 22:20Yeah. That's right.
- 22:21But in Germany? Right.
- 22:23But it was it was a good car. Like I think Ford have done a
- 22:26really good job with that car. I think it's a car that will
- 22:30appeal to people that like muscle cars.
- 22:33I think people that are looking for something a little bit more.
- 22:35I mean, I guess it would be, it was like a sledgehammer versus a
- 22:37scalpel. So if you want a scalpel, you're
- 22:40looking at something German. If you want something that's
- 22:43got, you know, just, and it gets a lot of looks on the freeway as
- 22:46well. People are like, you know,
- 22:48people in older Mustangs are really giving you the thumbs.
- 22:50And yeah, it was it. Was a big wing and all this.
- 22:53Or yeah, big wing on the back. Big.
- 22:56If you look at it, it almost looks like a horse from the
- 22:58front because it's got big nostrils for air intake and I
- 23:02think it's the first time that a Mustang has had a badge that is
- 23:05a head on picture of a horse. Yeah.
- 23:09Right, we've been the side profile.
- 23:11Had a flattened horse going the wrong way in years straight that
- 23:16was always bothering me about the Mustang.
- 23:18Why is it going to the left right?
- 23:19We all know that to the right means board progress, right?
- 23:22Yeah, so this car is for Ryan, so.
- 23:25Did you? What did you think?
- 23:27I think when you were driving in the canyons, how did it feel?
- 23:30You know, did you notice like, did it feel balanced and
- 23:33responsive? Did you notice the weight
- 23:35shifting a lot? Like what was the feel in the?
- 23:38Canyon. I liked the way the car rotated
- 23:41so it had a good rotation. It's a heavy car though, right?
- 23:44That's the do. We know how much it weighs. 4000
- 23:48lbs. I mean, yeah, that's £900 more
- 23:53than a GT3, right? Yeah, it's not nothing.
- 23:56And it's so much. Bigger, yeah, right.
- 23:58I mean. It's a totally different animal.
- 24:01Yeah, I mean, a lot of the time I was in second gear doing the
- 24:05cabin corners and stuff. There were times when I had to
- 24:07change down and stuff. So you aren't working out when
- 24:10you're driving this car in more of a way than you would be in a
- 24:12GT4? Is it a river or is it I mean
- 24:16like when does the power come in and what's the red line if you?
- 24:18Recall, yeah, I mean, the power's pretty instant, but you
- 24:22know, I think the red line was, no, I didn't hit it a couple of
- 24:25times, but yeah, I mean, this was this was Canyon stuff.
- 24:28So you're you're cornering all the time, so you don't really
- 24:32get to the Revlon. Yeah, yeah, right.
- 24:34You're shopping for a car, sort of in this.
- 24:38Yeah, test drive a four point O So last time I think I was on
- 24:42the podcast, we were talking about me looking at these
- 24:44boxers. Yeah, I did test drive a Boxster
- 24:484 point O, but it wasn't the right car for a number of
- 24:52reasons. And I think for me the first
- 24:56thing is really important is, is the dealership.
- 24:59So before I even got to the car and I, I won't say which
- 25:02dealership, but I didn't feel comfortable in the dealership,
- 25:06which I think psychologically doesn't set you up to want to
- 25:09buy a car. Yeah.
- 25:10No, it's good. To get on the defensive, right?
- 25:12Away. Yeah.
- 25:12And then I got to look at the car and there was a whole load
- 25:15of body damage which they very cleverly hidden in the pictures.
- 25:18No, really. On the bottom skirt like hidden
- 25:21in these pictures. So I still took it for a test
- 25:23drive. It was the PDKII want to try the
- 25:26the manual next, because I I don't think the PDK is right for
- 25:29that car. I think it's right for other
- 25:31cars, but not that car. So.
- 25:34But it's all a great experience, isn't it?
- 25:36Yeah, I like the idea of you. Yeah, I like the idea of you in
- 25:40the GTS 4 point O and I understand they're actually more
- 25:43rare than the GT4. Maybe you told me that.
- 25:45I I can't recall, but it sure seems like a lot of them have
- 25:49been wrecked for some reason. A lot of them seem to have
- 25:53branded titles because once you started talking about driving
- 25:56this car and of course I went down the rabbit hole because I'm
- 25:58not shopping for anything so I have to live vicariously through
- 26:01my friends like you and there are very few around I.
- 26:05Found another one in Houston that was manual but the body
- 26:08work on it was awful. This is like a 22 year car so I
- 26:16guess those cars have been abused a lot.
- 26:18Yikes, that's. Yeah, which is weird because I
- 26:22think generally Porsche drivers are good drivers and I think
- 26:26that's proven by, by insurance rights, right?
- 26:30Yeah, Yeah. So you know, I would, I think, I
- 26:34don't know, maybe the tables are turning in the Mustangs the the
- 26:39Lu proposition. Or there's something about that
- 26:45model that attracts people. That's weird because you think
- 26:48it might be the GD4 just because of the wing or whatever, but
- 26:51that's that's interesting. Well, but in terms of like
- 26:53actually being able to get into one of them, I don't know, maybe
- 26:58that's. Yeah, I.
- 27:00Don't know so. Keep looking.
- 27:02Right, the search continues. Yeah.
- 27:04Stay tuned for the next chapter of What's Dan going to be
- 27:07Driving? Before long.
- 27:08Or at least. That's driving.
- 27:10Would you, I mean would in a million years, would you
- 27:11consider the dark horse or was it like a fun car to borrow?
- 27:15I I want a convertible. OK.
- 27:17And there's no dark horse convertible.
- 27:19No. And I think the dynamics of the
- 27:20car, if they chop the top off that car, it wouldn't work just
- 27:23from a dynamics perspective. Yeah, but this weekend I'm
- 27:27heading up the coast and I've hired a Mustang, just a regular
- 27:31one, not a not AV 8 or anything, because I just, I've talked
- 27:34about this before, but they're almost like the beta equivalent.
- 27:37You know, you have it in watch world, you have a Beta, which is
- 27:40a watch you wear. You don't mind if it gets
- 27:42scuffed up, but you're still proud of the watch, right.
- 27:45Well, that's where that's how I see the Mustang as a rental.
- 27:48Yeah, it's, it's the beta of the rental car world.
- 27:52And it it does a great job and you take the top down and.
- 27:55Yeah, so. Is that you have a convertible
- 27:59for the road trip. Yeah, convertible Mustang, so
- 28:01very. Nice.
- 28:02Well, it's such an. Iconic road trip.
- 28:04You know, you kind of picture like, especially going up the
- 28:06California coast, like a convertible Mustang is pretty
- 28:09perfect for that. Yeah, I did look at the
- 28:11Corvette. It was three times the the
- 28:13amount, but they had a mileage limit of 300 miles.
- 28:17Oh, and I'm going to be doing more than 300 miles, so.
- 28:19This hertzer enterprise. This is enterprise who I think
- 28:23need to sponsor this show's enterprise.
- 28:26Well, you guys know that I've been a Hertz proponent for many,
- 28:30many years, right? I have my little hacks and all.
- 28:32That until you get the French cars.
- 28:34Yeah, but I am anti Hertz all of a sudden because have you heard
- 28:39about these scanners that they're using when you return a
- 28:41car now? I think it's probably primarily
- 28:44at airport locations. My little neighborhood location,
- 28:47an E Colfax in Denver probably doesn't have one of these, but
- 28:51it literally scans the car every angle, every surface can can
- 28:56pick up on anything from a curved wheel to a Ding and you
- 28:59get charged automatically. And to me, that just sounds like
- 29:03a nightmare. I'm I'm always the guy out there
- 29:06taking my own video and stuff. But how, how do you argue
- 29:10against that without trying to do a chargeback on your credit
- 29:12card or something? And you know, I've heard the
- 29:13argument too, like it's a rental car, right?
- 29:16I mean, it's going to pick up a scuff or two.
- 29:17I don't think what was the, the Seinfeld episode where Jerry's
- 29:21at the at the counter and he's trying to get a car and they're
- 29:24giving him crap or whatever. He finally gets 1 and you know,
- 29:27and, and the lady says, you know, drive safely and he and he
- 29:29says something effective. Well, I'm going to beat the
- 29:30living crap out of this car, you know, but I think that's kind of
- 29:34the mentality we all go into with the rental car to some
- 29:37degree. So well.
- 29:39I don't know, Stuff happens. Like, yeah, because part of
- 29:44travel is you're in unfamiliar. Right.
- 29:47Parking garages and streets and all of that.
- 29:50And I think you you can be the most conscientious driver ever.
- 29:53You're in a car that's likely not familiar to.
- 29:55You, yeah. With dimensions that you're
- 29:57getting used to, and you might be in a, you know, especially if
- 30:01you're in a city, stuff happens, yeah.
- 30:03And so it takes out the element of like, if you want to go in
- 30:07and say like, hey, I did curb the wheel.
- 30:09I was in this weird garage. Right.
- 30:10You know, like. Takes out the ability to discuss
- 30:13it and sort of find a, you know, an amenable solution for all
- 30:17parties. Right, right.
- 30:18And a curved wheel is one of those things you could
- 30:19traditionally get away with, I think in a in a rental car, but
- 30:24not anymore. But of course, Hertz will say
- 30:25we'll just buy the comprehensive coverage and we're, we're good,
- 30:28right? And help pay for the scanner.
- 30:30I once drove a Mazzarati Quattaporte over a concrete
- 30:35bollard in a car park. I didn't see it.
- 30:38Yeah, I didn't see it, and I just had this massive crunch.
- 30:41Luckily I had the full insurance so I was.
- 30:43That was an interesting. Conversation.
- 30:45Thank you. For your time.
- 30:48You talk about not knowing the dimensions of the car.
- 30:50The last time I had AAV 8GT4GT Mustang GT rental car we had a
- 30:56hailstorm coming and I was going to try to stick the nose of it
- 30:59at least in my garage. Will this hailstorm that never
- 31:01came was was supposed to come and I because I just had no idea
- 31:05about the the size of the car and I, I drove it right into the
- 31:10bumper of my old Cayman and it had two little marks from the
- 31:14license plate on the on the Mustang GT that I was out there
- 31:17with a hair dryer and I could never get over those two marks
- 31:22from the. When you're trying to do the
- 31:25conscientious thing. And prepare for the weather.
- 31:27And protect the car that's not even yours.
- 31:30I know and then for. The weather to never even
- 31:32arrive. Yeah, yeah.
- 31:34And that's the difference between a £3000 car and a £4000
- 31:38car. Now you know.
- 31:39Exactly, exactly. I had I was talking last weekend
- 31:44at a cruise in specifically about some of the events that
- 31:48have happened over the last week in Los Angeles.
- 31:51And in particular there was a death on the Crest Highway and
- 31:57it was on a Friday. And by all accounts the the
- 32:00person that passed was heading to Good Vibes Breakfast Club.
- 32:03And the reason I raised that was because the conversation I had
- 32:06about that with these people were regulars at Good Vibes and
- 32:10they were actually attributing part of the blame for the
- 32:14popularity and how Good Vibes has become more successful to
- 32:19the road and track article. Was it road and track or current
- 32:21driver? Current driver.
- 32:22Vera Rd. Yeah.
- 32:24Rd. Track.
- 32:24Rd. Track.
- 32:25Road and track. And they said that had it not
- 32:27been for that article, that the the location, the event wouldn't
- 32:33have become so popular. And sometimes well kept secrets
- 32:37should stay well kept secrets. Ryan, I know you and I were
- 32:40talking earlier in the week and you mentioned that you've been
- 32:43on this fantastic road and that you really wanted to write about
- 32:46it. But, you know, are you betraying
- 32:49your fellow car lovers? So I just wondered what you
- 32:52folks thought about that in terms of, you know, should these
- 32:54things become sacred and secret or should they be publicized?
- 32:59I think it changes the consideration obviously, when
- 33:02people are losing their lives, but I don't think that's, you
- 33:07know, I mean, unfortunate, unfortunately, Angela's Crest,
- 33:11there have been accidents on Angela's Crest for a long time.
- 33:14Like it's, you know, especially to people in Southern
- 33:16California. Like it's known as like a
- 33:19challenging Rd. To drive in the sense of like
- 33:21you can get over your head quickly if you're not being
- 33:24smart, which I think people have been doing that a lot longer
- 33:28than like because the article is relatively recent like.
- 33:32You know, I think it's more that the popularity of good vibes now
- 33:36means that there's a lot more cars and a lot more people that
- 33:39are driving more dangerously. Because good vibes used to be a
- 33:42little community, right, of people that everyone knew each
- 33:44other. Everyone was, you know, as it
- 33:47says in the name, Good vibes. Is that quantifiable?
- 33:51Like, I mean, I've been to handful, but I I'm not local,
- 33:53obviously to Lai mean is is you 2?
- 33:57I think probably have been to more than I have, and especially
- 34:00over the span of time. Have you I mean, is that have
- 34:03you actually seen that or is that just you're saying?
- 34:05Is this article just a scapegoat?
- 34:07Or, you know, is this? I feel like the article's a
- 34:10scapegoat in part because it's so recent, because I think like
- 34:15I've known about good vibes for a long time, like well before I
- 34:18had the chance to go because of social media.
- 34:21And I think that was well before the article, but I think, yeah,
- 34:26I, I think the article is a scapegoat that I mean, it's
- 34:29possible that it reached like it did make it reach a wider
- 34:33audience. I mean, it's definitely gotten
- 34:35busier. But my impression before this,
- 34:39you know, take on it was just that that was word getting out
- 34:42over social media and just kind of organic growth.
- 34:47But yeah, I mean, it's definitely, it's definitely
- 34:49gotten bigger, but I think that happens with a lot of events
- 34:54because car people are always looking for something to
- 34:57celebrate their hobby with and meet kind of like minded people.
- 35:01I think unfortunately this one's at the top of a road that can
- 35:06get away from you if you don't drive conscientiously or you
- 35:10know, you can outdrive your talent.
- 35:12Unfortunately. But I'm curious.
- 35:15Yeah. I'm curious what you think, Dan.
- 35:19Well, no, I, I, I just, I, you know this, you mentioned this
- 35:21road that I got to drive on recently and it was it was me
- 35:25and my buddy Colin and, and his his GT3 touring and then our
- 35:31buddy Kurt from eat sleep drive on YouTube and his 9 N 1.1 GT 3.
- 35:37And then there was a 9 N 7.2 GT 3.
- 35:40And then there was a a very cool Audi B7RS4, which is a very cool
- 35:46car, but just was in a was pretty pretty much outclassed I
- 35:49think by the the Porsches is is wanted to happen.
- 35:52But we I was introduced to Rd. I'd never driven.
- 35:56It was fantastic. If you know Colorado roads, you
- 36:00know that most of our roads are good roads are Canyon roads.
- 36:02Second, third gear. This was the rare Rd. that I got
- 36:06into 4th gear a few times in a GT4 with long gears.
- 36:09So we were flying, the road was fantastic.
- 36:12It had a little bit of everything, which is I think one
- 36:15of the keys to a good road. And I want to spread the gospel,
- 36:20but I know that, you know, not that our platform is so huge,
- 36:24but, you know, that's a road that could be very easily
- 36:27ruined. And it's a road much like
- 36:28Angela's Crest where you could really get in and over your head
- 36:30very quickly. And I had a couple of close
- 36:32calls and I, I'd like to think I know what I'm doing.
- 36:34So, you know, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's tough, right?
- 36:39It's, it's, and I think the older I get, the less likely I
- 36:42am to just go driving with people I don't know anymore.
- 36:45I tend to drive with people who I know are good drivers who kind
- 36:48of have a similar skill set, who I know are not going to get in
- 36:50over the heads. You know, it's just, it's not us
- 36:55though, it's everyone else. And that's the problem.
- 36:57I've heard about this from people on motorcycles for a long
- 36:59time, right? It's you can be the best cyclist
- 37:02and, you know, in the world, best rider in the world.
- 37:04But, but it's that other person who's looking at their phone or
- 37:07whatever. And it sounds like maybe that's
- 37:08what happened on Angela's Crest, that the person who was killed
- 37:12was not necessarily the one at fault.
- 37:15No, it sounds like the car that hit them under steered and went
- 37:18into their head on. But I think, I mean, you know,
- 37:22Ryan, you were talking about like, like we are at the mercy
- 37:26of other people's choices, too. I mean, and that's true like on
- 37:29the road on these Canyon roads, that's true at the racetrack.
- 37:32Like, I mean, the number of stories I've heard where
- 37:34somebody comes around a corner on Angela's Crest and there's
- 37:36somebody in the lane making a. 3 point turn or whatever.
- 37:40I mean, like there was that accident within the last year
- 37:43with the 29 Elevens, I think one with the GT3RS and the engine,
- 37:48you know, I mean, the pictures were stunning because one of
- 37:50them, the engine had just been shorn right off.
- 37:52Yes. Sitting in the road by itself,
- 37:56you know, and I think that was one of them was making a turn, I
- 37:59think like in the middle of the road.
- 38:01And so it's, I think I think it's easy to blame the article
- 38:06because I think especially, especially an accident like that
- 38:08where a young enthusiast, you know, loses their life, that's
- 38:12awful. And I think we try to make sense
- 38:14of things like that, which really don't make sense.
- 38:18And so I think it's easy to scapegoat the article, but I
- 38:20think it's more nuanced than that.
- 38:21I think it's like, I think the the word has gotten out in
- 38:26general, like social media, word of mouth, the article, you know,
- 38:30people are always looking for good roads to drive.
- 38:32Yeah, yeah. And, you know, other people's
- 38:35choices, like we all make our choices.
- 38:37And I think that impacts like more than us often times.
- 38:41Yeah, yeah, it's managed risk, right.
- 38:43And and you know, I say I was, you know, in fourth gear.
- 38:45Well, 4th gear in my car is a very fast speed.
- 38:48And should I be doing that on public roads?
- 38:50Probably not, right? And and I, I, you know, I will,
- 38:55yeah, it's, it's tough. It's getting the older I get.
- 38:57That's, that's a tougher sort of argument to make, right?
- 39:00Like that. This is OK, right?
- 39:03Yeah, it's like how much you can justify more easily when you're
- 39:06younger. And, and I think especially, you
- 39:09know, I, I have definitely thought like, am I being a
- 39:12responsible parent to go up and do that?
- 39:16You know, and I'm, I mean, I've been in my SUV when I go
- 39:19Evangelist Crest 'cause that's what I have available.
- 39:21But it's like, am I like, even if I'm doing everything right,
- 39:25I'm aware. Like we're still the other
- 39:27things can happen. And so it's like, yeah, it, it
- 39:30just changes the calculus. Yeah.
- 39:31Ryan, how would you feel if a journalist tomorrow wrote about
- 39:34that road and then the next time you went to use that road there
- 39:38was 20 other, you know, similarly like minded people
- 39:41using the road? I know and I'd like to say it
- 39:44was altruistic, but it's purely a, a selfish thing.
- 39:47I think that I wouldn't want that.
- 39:50You know, it's it's tough, you know, obviously, right, for
- 39:53Autoblog. I'm certainly no Johnny
- 39:54Lieberman or Matt Farah and road and track.
- 39:56But you know, these are, you know, I want to talk about the
- 39:59roads I drive, right? I want to, you know, it's part
- 40:01of the story, right? And and I think that there are a
- 40:03couple here close to Denver that, you know, I mean, they're
- 40:06not secrets, right? So I think it's OK to talk
- 40:08about, but you know, like this one that I was on.
- 40:10I mean, I'll say it starts with AT.
- 40:13If you know, you know. If you don't, you won't.
- 40:15You had never been introduced to it as.
- 40:17Something as you do right here, right?
- 40:20Live there like that does to like it's a more, it's a less
- 40:23well known than some of the other.
- 40:24Ones yeah, yeah, I'd be a little pissed.
- 40:26I think, you know, I don't want to dump on, on Matt Farah
- 40:29because I, I feel like this was, it's not like he, you know,
- 40:32uncovered a secret. We're dumping on I.
- 40:37He's more the emphasis of like letting secrets become non
- 40:41secrets through different mediums right?
- 40:43Yeah, but I. Think I.
- 40:46Mean it kind of goes to like, I think that's such an like
- 40:50intrinsic element of the car community is like we find each
- 40:54other because of the love of cars and driving.
- 40:57And I think a big part of that is sharing our cars, but also
- 41:00like, check out this amazing drive I just did.
- 41:03Yeah, you know. Like, that's such a part of it.
- 41:08And I think it's easy to point at the article because it's very
- 41:10visible, but it's. Think of the number of.
- 41:13Conversations you have. Here's the compromise, right?
- 41:16Right. And you drive it in the genesis,
- 41:18you write about it, and then people will either want to read
- 41:21it or not. I know.
- 41:23And that's the thing you have to tell the whole story, right?
- 41:25And and here's the other argument.
- 41:27You know, it's kind of a, a term du jour, but but gatekeeping,
- 41:31right, Right. You know, who are we to decide?
- 41:34OK, I'm going to enjoy this now. I'm going to shut the door,
- 41:36right? There's there's that too, I
- 41:39think. That yeah, because it changes
- 41:41the hobby if we suddenly get like hoardy about like, well,
- 41:44this is my. Rd.
- 41:45Yeah. And if you think about it,
- 41:47that's like very contrary to the essence of good vibes, which FJ
- 41:52and Nicole obviously like went to great pains to say like this
- 41:56is not an official, it's not a club, it's not anything.
- 41:58It's just like we're just, we're going up and if you're up there
- 42:02and you're like minded, we're very happy to have you.
- 42:04Like it's all love and you know. Yeah.
- 42:08So it's it's interesting or it's like ironic, like definitely
- 42:13thought provoking to think that like even something started with
- 42:16that intent. That wasn't like they didn't
- 42:19start it something that had grown you.
- 42:22Know, and this is nothing new. Think about like Mulholland
- 42:24Drive back in the day, right? You know, there were organized
- 42:27races. Yeah.
- 42:30What's that, Dan? That's Taylor the dragon.
- 42:32Taylor the dragon, I mean, you could say that jumped the shark,
- 42:34right? The dragon jumped the shark a
- 42:36long time ago. I and then of course, the
- 42:37argument is there are better roads, you know, miles from from
- 42:41that, right? It's it's, it's, it's tough.
- 42:45It's not a new argument, but you know, cars are faster than ever.
- 42:48More people have access to performance than ever.
- 42:51But I guess who are we to police it?
- 42:52But at the same time, you know, it's, I don't know, it's a, it's
- 42:56a tough. I think if anything.
- 42:58Road to walk. Call to action or like the hope
- 43:01is, you know, just kind of hammering home that like leave
- 43:06your ego at home if at all possible, Like just if we all
- 43:09because if people start not enjoying it responsibly and
- 43:14people are getting people are getting hurt obviously and
- 43:17killed, that ruins it for everybody.
- 43:19And it's the same like on a non fatal scale, it's the same idea.
- 43:25If you look at Malibu Kitchen, like that was an amazing cars
- 43:27and coffee. It got popular and it got shut
- 43:30down. Like look at all at like it's
- 43:32sort of cyclical. It's just unfortunate that Vibes
- 43:35is now experiencing an element of that too.
- 43:38Once it's no longer underground, right?
- 43:40It's, it's, it's, you know, it's yeah, because there's a but
- 43:43something else will replace it, right?
- 43:45Or, or, you know, maybe even those same people will end up
- 43:47going somewhere else, the Ogs or whatever.
- 43:49It's it's, it's just. On Friday at 7:00 AM I'll be at
- 43:54the Rock shop and if anyone wants to join me, I won't be in
- 43:57a Mustang this week but. The end of the new Pied Piper of
- 44:01the LA car scene. The Rock Shop is where it's at.
- 44:04That's. Cool, well I I've never heard of
- 44:07that place so I'm excited to check it.
- 44:08Out it looks cool. Around it there's two different
- 44:11routes. Yeah.
- 44:13Really good routes. Yeah, yeah, I'm excited.
- 44:16To to explore. I guess in the end, there's a
- 44:19time and a place, right? And you know, you can drive
- 44:22spiritedly and safely, right? But you have to take into
- 44:25consideration, you know, who else is on the road, what the
- 44:27weather's like, What Car you're in, what your skill set is,
- 44:30right? You know, it's, it's, it's just,
- 44:34you know, it's not the same formula every time you go out,
- 44:36right? And sometimes, you know, I go
- 44:38out and I'm just not feeling it. And then I start slipping up and
- 44:40I'm like, all right, time, It's time.
- 44:42And other times you're on it and it feels good and it's right and
- 44:45it can be magic, but know your limits.
- 44:48And the phrase respect the Crest.
- 44:50I mean, you know, makes more sense than ever, right?
- 44:53There's a reason they say that. I mean, and that's Ryan.
- 44:56Like there I was thinking about that concept today when I was at
- 44:59the track because that was one of the most like surprising
- 45:04realizations for me when I first started doing high performance
- 45:07driving was realizing like, hey, we're all dependent on each
- 45:11other to monitor our like focus and energy levels and all of
- 45:15that. And so I kind of came up with
- 45:17some like guidelines for myself, like, hey, if I catch myself
- 45:21thinking about anything but the track twice in a session, like
- 45:25go off and get a cup of. Coffee you.
- 45:27Know or something like that. And yeah, it's just, it's like
- 45:32you said, I think there's an element of like when you're
- 45:36younger, you don't want to acknowledge, like you said,
- 45:39maybe you're having an off day or like maybe you're just not
- 45:41feeling it. I think as you get older, you're
- 45:44more willing to go, like, all right, I can come back another
- 45:47day. I was doing some track stuff in
- 45:50that Bradford school. Yeah, it was in the afternoon
- 45:53after lunch, 108°, and I wasn't feeling it, so I just pulled out
- 45:58and just just went into the pits.
- 45:59And yeah, and I don't think a younger me would have done that.
- 46:03No same. Getting older, wiser, yeah.
- 46:08But no smarter. Well, yeah.
- 46:11Well, yeah, I've had, you know, it used to be like going to the
- 46:14track. It was like I had to drive every
- 46:15minute of every session and get my money's worth and maximize
- 46:18the time. And I don't think there's
- 46:20anything wrong with that as long as you're on top of it.
- 46:22But yeah, as I've gotten older, I've sort of given myself
- 46:25permission. Like, hey, if I'm flagging,
- 46:28nobody wins. If I make myself go out for the
- 46:30last session or I, you know, force myself to finish it, like
- 46:34one more lap isn't necessarily positive.
- 46:37Yeah, yeah. So this weekend there are quite
- 46:40a few things going on. Lindsay, I think you're
- 46:44representing in Seattle, is that right?
- 46:46That's. Right, Avance is having their
- 46:48classics on the green and it's the 5th annual event at Chateau
- 46:53San Michelle Winery so I will be checking it out.
- 46:57Yeah, it's a good event and I know that I'm not sure these
- 47:00have been announced, but Steve McQueen car will be there.
- 47:03That's exciting. And Maya's Mike, Steve McQueen
- 47:05Carr, which would be pretty cool.
- 47:08I know the folks at NILU are bringing a car up.
- 47:11And we got to see that car at the LA Auto Show.
- 47:12We didn't even and me hesher and is this hesher and his wife?
- 47:16Yes. Ena Ena, super nice people.
- 47:19Lovely. People, that's a whole story.
- 47:22If you don't know this car, then neither.
- 47:24Like there's this guy, there's this couple, like hell, I'm
- 47:27going to build my own supercar. And they did.
- 47:30Who did he work for before? Was it Pagani?
- 47:34That sounds right. And that probably helps.
- 47:35Or was it Koenigsegg? I I can't remember.
- 47:37It was something like that, right.
- 47:39So he didn't come in with like a blank slate.
- 47:41He didn't design this thing on an Etcha sketch, right?
- 47:43He. Wasn't.
- 47:44In the back of it, but still, like, that's, that's the thing
- 47:48people used to do. People don't do that anymore,
- 47:50you know, and, and, but he did. They did.
- 47:53That's a beautiful car. Yeah, So that would be good.
- 47:55Ryan, what are you up to this weekend?
- 47:56Much. God, I don't even know.
- 47:57I I've got my sister and her family coming into town, so
- 48:00probably not a whole lot of driving, probably doing some
- 48:02tourist things instead, you know?
- 48:05They probably want to see your new special Rd.
- 48:07That's what I'm saying. Right.
- 48:09All right everyone pile in the seven seater rental SUV we're
- 48:13we're going to a road that starts with AT they will never
- 48:18come back you're. Going to take the long way to
- 48:21the zoo that's. Right.
- 48:23That's right. That's right.
- 48:25I. Realize how far LA is to Laguna
- 48:27Seca, so it's just over 5 hours on a good trip.
- 48:32So this weekend I'll be tracking up to and I'll probably spend
- 48:35more time in the car than I will at the track, but it'll be worth
- 48:38it because I'm going to go to Moto America, which will be the
- 48:41the second one of the season I'll have been to and see some
- 48:44super bikes ripping and yeah should be good fun.
- 48:46Well. We're going to say like the
- 48:48whole area is just so magical and we're going to say it's such
- 48:50a great track and you know, it is, like you said, it is a
- 48:53proper road trip. Yeah, yeah.
- 48:56And it'll be good scouting for Car Week because that's going to
- 48:58be, I think we're 29 days away from Car Week.
- 49:01Can you believe it? Get out of town.
- 49:05You know how much I have to do before car?
- 49:08Like we were saying before we started, there are not enough
- 49:10hours in the day. Oh.
- 49:12No, it's going to be here before.
- 49:14Before we interesting stuff I'm hearing, I'm hearing maybe an
- 49:19electric British car. OK.
- 49:22Gordon Murray has said he's bringing some special editions.
- 49:26OK, OK. To the quail.
- 49:28Yeah. What else?
- 49:31What else? I think they're the main ones I
- 49:34can talk about that I've heard about speaking.
- 49:38Of gate giving. Yeah, if you guys think people
- 49:43are funny about roads, wait till you get to events at Car Week.
- 49:47Boy, that is a whole shebang. I had food for the call back.
- 49:53Yeah, I will say most people have been very, very kind to us.
- 49:56Others. We'll we'll get there right.
- 49:58So who do we need to thank in advance?
- 50:00I know that motorsport, the Monterey Motorsport Festival,
- 50:03yes, has been very kind. Yes, Concorso Italiano.
- 50:08Barnums and RM Sotheby's. Yep, Yep.
- 50:11There we go. Thank you very much.
- 50:13Thank you. The rest of you get with it.
- 50:15I was looking at some of the auction items and the one that I
- 50:19think it sounds really cool is the folks at Mecum are
- 50:23auctioning a 70s Dino and this Dino in period had the track or
- 50:29the the record for driving the cannonball.
- 50:33So. So that's one I want to check
- 50:35out for sure. Yeah, that's.
- 50:37Super. Cool.
- 50:38Do we like the Dino? What do we?
- 50:40What do I mean, of course we like the Dino, but what I don't
- 50:44like about the Dino is it's now a very expensive car that, you
- 50:47know, not that long ago was 5 figure car.
- 50:50Yeah. I know, I think you know some
- 50:53things find you. So when I first started going to
- 50:56car week regularly again, I think in 2021, Dino's were
- 51:01everywhere. And I was like, OK, I don't know
- 51:04what's going on, but they kept finding me.
- 51:05You know, I would turn around and there's one and so, so I
- 51:08have a soft spot for them. Plus they are.
- 51:10They're just so cute in all their bright colors.
- 51:12They are. They are.
- 51:13They're either one of you driven 1.
- 51:15No. No.
- 51:18I'm open to it. Yeah, I think I might get a
- 51:20chance here soon. So we'll, yeah, we'll see.
- 51:22I got a fit in the thing. Now that's watch this.
- 51:25Yeah. Yeah.
- 51:27Nothing like driving a Dino to motivate your health and
- 51:29fitness. Is it grease up the what What
- 51:34prompted? You to get in shape.
- 51:36Well, yeah, yeah, I thought it was going to be Car week, but
- 51:38that hasn't played out like I'd hoped, so it's another year of
- 51:43sweating on. The machine.
- 51:46Pebble. Yeah, with Cindy Crawford.
- 51:49Right, right, right, right. Shoot, Shoot anyway.
- 51:52I love it. Yeah, it's a good time.
- 51:57Is there anything else we wanted to talk about?
- 51:58Do I feel like we should end on something uplifting?
- 52:01I maybe it's maybe it'll be this maybe the plea to our listeners.
- 52:05You know, it's very important that you like and every
- 52:10platform. Apparently we're really taking
- 52:13off on YouTube, which is great, but don't forget about us on
- 52:15Spotify and Apple Podcasts. It is not the listens, it's not
- 52:20the downloads that get us on the charts.
- 52:22It is the the likes and more than ever, the comments, as we
- 52:25learned earlier today. So please take a moment and make
- 52:29sure you do that. Follow us on all platforms,
- 52:31comment, rate, review, all that kind of stuff.
- 52:33We appreciate it very much. Share your thoughts on all of
- 52:36the topics that we have covered today.
- 52:38Right, absolutely. What's Lindsay going to have on
- 52:41the side of the car? Right.
- 52:42Yes, yes. What do we think about whether
- 52:47these best kept secrets should stay best kept secrets?
- 52:51Yeah, How do we feel about Dino's?
- 52:54How do we feel about Dino? 'S who hates a Dino?
- 52:56All right, let's be. You know, there was a purple
- 52:58one. I mean, it still exists, but
- 53:00there was one that was kind of making the rounds and I think
- 53:03Broad Arrow was auctioning. It.
- 53:06Two years ago and it was just the cutest thing ever there.
- 53:10You go that you want. You want a cute Ferrari?
- 53:13Right. Cute purple Ferrari.
- 53:15How? What's not to love?
- 53:16All right. I think that's a show, so.
- 53:20Thanks guys. Until next week, always, always
- 53:24be driving. There you go.
- 53:28Thanks everyone.
