Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, it's your person thing or whatever, Michelle. I guess
- 0:04Speaker 1: I'm back, I think, right, yeah, this is probably still me.
- 0:09Speaker 1: I'm probably still here. So we're just gonna do what
- 0:13Speaker 1: we normally do, I think, because what else would we do.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Do you have a suggestion, Please don't tell it to
- 0:20Speaker 1: me or I mean you could, but don't because now
- 0:23Speaker 1: I feel like I'm not doing a good enough job
- 0:26Speaker 1: and I'm asking you to fix the show. And that's
- 0:28Speaker 1: not what I'm saying. I'm not really sure what I'm saying.
- 0:32Speaker 1: But that's fine. So obviously we're gonna talk about eighty
- 0:35Speaker 1: six before we do that. I just wanted to tell
- 0:38Speaker 1: you that I just finished watching ORB, that anime ORB
- 0:42Speaker 1: that's also called Chi in Japanese, and I really liked
- 0:48Speaker 1: it up until the last episode and a half, where
- 0:52Speaker 1: I felt like I wasn't smart enough for the show anymore,
- 0:56Speaker 1: and it hurt my feelings. I mean, it's not it's
- 1:00Speaker 1: that the mangaka took it in a direction at the
- 1:02Speaker 1: very end that I didn't understand. Maybe that is its fault,
- 1:06Speaker 1: I don't really know, but there was just a choice,
- 1:09Speaker 1: basically a character design choice, like right at the very
- 1:12Speaker 1: end that I still don't understand, Like I had to
- 1:15Speaker 1: go on the Internet and hope that someone on the
- 1:18Speaker 1: internet would tell me what it meant, because I was like,
- 1:20Speaker 1: am I misremembering the first half of the show? Like
- 1:23Speaker 1: what's going on? And on the Internet I learned that
- 1:26Speaker 1: it's just open to interpretation, but I don't know what
- 1:29Speaker 1: my interpretation is. So I feel not very smart actually,
- 1:34Speaker 1: and I don't really want to watch a show and
- 1:37Speaker 1: feel stupid afterwards. So it went from being a show
- 1:40Speaker 1: that I thought was going to be kind of in
- 1:41Speaker 1: my top like maybe fifty anime I don't really have that,
- 1:44Speaker 1: I have like a top thirty seven but whatever, to
- 1:47Speaker 1: something that I probably won't think of much in a
- 1:50Speaker 1: couple of months, except for the shame of not understanding
- 1:55Speaker 1: the Mangaka's decision at the end there. So I wanted
- 2:00Speaker 1: to tell you that, And I haven't looked at that
- 2:02Speaker 1: hard for people who didn't like the end, but my
- 2:06Speaker 1: research made me believe that I was the only one
- 2:09Speaker 1: who was upset by it. So I'm not saying that
- 2:13Speaker 1: you shouldn't watch ORB at all. I'm saying that I
- 2:18Speaker 1: shouldn't have watched ORB because I am not a good
- 2:22Speaker 1: enough person or something I don't know anyway, that's enough
- 2:26Speaker 1: about ORB. Let's talk about eighty six, I guess. So
- 2:31Speaker 1: we're on episode five, which is called I'm with You,
- 2:35Speaker 1: which is a great title, but you won't know what
- 2:39Speaker 1: it means until the very end, and that's why it's
- 2:42Speaker 1: good because it actually relates to the episode. That being said,
- 2:45Speaker 1: I think all of the episode titles in eighty six
- 2:47Speaker 1: are like, really really good. They're always uh section of
- 2:51Speaker 1: dialogue that someone says, So yeah, but I'm with You
- 2:55Speaker 1: is important, And I'm kind of excited about this episode
- 2:59Speaker 1: because I really like it. There's some really cool directing
- 3:02Speaker 1: choices in it, and it contains some like really interesting
- 3:05Speaker 1: plot developments, so we might as well do it because
- 3:08Speaker 1: for some reason today I'm feeling really uncomfortable talking, so
- 3:12Speaker 1: let's just make me talk some more. So, if you remember,
- 3:17Speaker 1: at the end of the last episode, Lena had just
- 3:20Speaker 1: found out Shin's name, his full name, which is Gene Nosen,
- 3:24Speaker 1: and she had been like, oh, man, I know, like
- 3:26Speaker 1: a chore Ray nos In, and Shin like kind of
- 3:29Speaker 1: panicked for a second and then smiled and said, that's
- 3:31Speaker 1: my brother. So we're not starting in that scene at all. Actually,
- 3:35Speaker 1: we start with a close shot of Lena's eye, which
- 3:38Speaker 1: is closed and we only see part of her face
- 3:42Speaker 1: because we're looking at it through like some sort of window,
- 3:46Speaker 1: and we can see kind of the reflection and the
- 3:49Speaker 1: glow of a fire nearby, and a voice says Colonel Malise.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Lena's eye starts to open, and we see that it
- 3:57Speaker 1: is April thirteenth, twenty one forty two. It's six years
- 4:01Speaker 1: in the past. Someone is like gasping. We see that
- 4:04Speaker 1: it is the pilot of the helicopter. Remember the helicopter
- 4:07Speaker 1: went down, I guess, And he is backed into a
- 4:10Speaker 1: corner of the wreckage and he's firing his gun at
- 4:13Speaker 1: a legion thing that is directly in front of him.
- 4:16Speaker 1: And also everything is on fire, which makes sense because
- 4:20Speaker 1: I guess it went down and maybe the fuel tank
- 4:22Speaker 1: opened and then it exploded. I don't know how this works,
- 4:25Speaker 1: but I assume that's what happened. Anyway. We see the
- 4:28Speaker 1: legion thing raise up one of its like spindly legs
- 4:32Speaker 1: and then bring it down, and at that point we
- 4:36Speaker 1: cut to Lena's eye, so we don't see it crush him,
- 4:39Speaker 1: but we do see blood splatter against the window that
- 4:42Speaker 1: she's on the other side of Okay, So they're separated
- 4:45Speaker 1: by a piece of wreckage with a window in it.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Lena's eyes widen, obviously, and she is looking through the window.
- 4:53Speaker 1: She sees someone lying on the ground and she puts
- 4:57Speaker 1: her hand on the window and she says, father. Unfortunately,
- 5:01Speaker 1: the legion thing hurt her and it turns towards her,
- 5:04Speaker 1: and we see that, like I said a minute ago,
- 5:08Speaker 1: that I forgot it was over here, that she is
- 5:10Speaker 1: just separated by this legion thing, and you know, her
- 5:14Speaker 1: father lying on the ground and all this fire right,
- 5:16Speaker 1: just like a one piece of helicopter with a window
- 5:18Speaker 1: in it, and she's laying down, but she's like trying
- 5:21Speaker 1: to get up because you probably need to run from this.
- 5:24Speaker 1: As you know, the legion approaches the window, and just
- 5:28Speaker 1: then we cut to a juggernaut sprinting forward and we
- 5:32Speaker 1: see that it has a headless night insignia on it.
- 5:35Speaker 1: I think that's Shinn's brother, because we learned last week
- 5:38Speaker 1: that that's a symbol. Yay, we're gonna meet Schin's brother
- 5:41Speaker 1: probably anyway. A voice says, if anyone's still alive, cover
- 5:45Speaker 1: your ears and get down. Lena turns around and she
- 5:50Speaker 1: sees the Juggernaut slide like over and into frame like
- 5:53Speaker 1: really pretty cool, and the Legion thing starts shooting at it,
- 5:58Speaker 1: but the Juggernaut makes a direct hit and takes the
- 6:00Speaker 1: Legion thing out. It's important to note here that Lena
- 6:04Speaker 1: was specifically asked to cover her ears and get down,
- 6:07Speaker 1: and she did neither of those things. But she's a kid,
- 6:09Speaker 1: so it's fine, except that she may have permanent hearing
- 6:12Speaker 1: damage now. Anyway, Lena looks over at the Juggernaut's cockpit
- 6:16Speaker 1: as it opens, and she looks real scared. And then
- 6:20Speaker 1: this dude with kind of longish red hair and glasses
- 6:24Speaker 1: walks over to her. His glasses like shine in the
- 6:28Speaker 1: firelight as he approaches, and Lena gasps as he looks
- 6:31Speaker 1: at her. He smiles and kneels down and says you okay.
- 6:36Speaker 1: He reaches out for her hand and holds on to
- 6:39Speaker 1: it as Lena shakes and tears form in the corner
- 6:42Speaker 1: of her eyes. We got to what I assume is later,
- 6:47Speaker 1: and the guy who I assume is Shore says, I
- 6:51Speaker 1: guess to homeover is on the other end of the parade.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Confirmation complete. Returning to base, Lena is sitting again as
- 7:00Speaker 1: the juggernaut hugging her knees and her eyes are like
- 7:04Speaker 1: just red from crying. In the distance, the sun is
- 7:07Speaker 1: beginning to come up. Suoreret holds something rectangular out to Lena.
- 7:11Speaker 1: It kind of looks like a pack of gum, like
- 7:15Speaker 1: it's something in like an aluminum foil thing like either
- 7:21Speaker 1: like some sort of candy probably, and he's like, you
- 7:24Speaker 1: want some LANDA just kind of exhales, and Schorey continues,
- 7:28Speaker 1: even at a time like this, I thought maybe you
- 7:30Speaker 1: could eat something sweet or do you not like chocolate?
- 7:34Speaker 1: Lena shakes her head no, like she does like chocolate,
- 7:37Speaker 1: and Suorey hands it to her and says good. He
- 7:41Speaker 1: stands up and he starts to walk away, and Lena says, father,
- 7:46Speaker 1: Surerey turns back. Lena looks down and says, said, we
- 7:49Speaker 1: were doing horrible things to the eighty six, So why
- 7:52Speaker 1: are you protecting me. She's looking down at her hand
- 7:56Speaker 1: and it's shaking. Suoreret starts to walk back over and says, well,
- 8:01Speaker 1: we're part of the republic. We were born and raised here.
- 8:05Speaker 1: It's a citizen's duty to fight to protect his country.
- 8:08Speaker 1: It's something to be proud of. I'm not one of
- 8:10Speaker 1: those losers who just talks and does nothing. He tightens
- 8:13Speaker 1: his fist, so I fight. It's kind of cool. I'll
- 8:17Speaker 1: fight to protect this country to the end. Lena just
- 8:20Speaker 1: kind of stares at him. Then his stomach growls, which
- 8:22Speaker 1: kind of lightens the mood. I guess I don't know,
- 8:25Speaker 1: and he kind of chuckles embarrassed, and Lena raises the
- 8:29Speaker 1: chocolate bar back up to him. He laughs and takes
- 8:32Speaker 1: it and says, I have a brother. I guess he's
- 8:35Speaker 1: around your age. He's probably grown up, big and strong.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Lena's like, you haven't seen him. Chore's eyes narrow, and
- 8:43Speaker 1: he breaks the chocolate bar in half and says, no,
- 8:46Speaker 1: I can't go home yet. He gives half of the
- 8:49Speaker 1: bar back to Lena. Lina says, thank you. Chore smiles.
- 8:54Speaker 1: Now they're in the juggernaut, like in the cockpit, and
- 8:58Speaker 1: it's walking back to I guess it's the base probably,
- 9:01Speaker 1: and sure, Ray says, I'm sure I knows in call
- 9:04Speaker 1: me Ray. Lena's like such a strange name. You shouldn't
- 9:08Speaker 1: say that about people's names, Lena. Ray laughs and says
- 9:13Speaker 1: it is a rare name in this country. Lena is
- 9:15Speaker 1: like you're not from the Republic. Ray says, my brother
- 9:19Speaker 1: and I were born here, but our parents are from
- 9:20Speaker 1: a neighboring country. Do you know what the Empire of
- 9:23Speaker 1: Jiod is. I know what that is. Lena's like, yeah,
- 9:29Speaker 1: the country that made the legion exactly. Ray exhales. Lena continues,
- 9:36Speaker 1: aren't you scared to fight? Ray's like, I am. But
- 9:40Speaker 1: if I don't fight, I can't survive. So I won't die.
- 9:43Speaker 1: I can't. I have to get back to my brother.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Lena just stares at him. Now it is June sixteenth,
- 9:50Speaker 1: twenty one forty eight, so present day, present time. Lena
- 9:54Speaker 1: is walking in the moonlights at that memorial, so we're
- 9:59Speaker 1: right after the congress station that she had with everyone
- 10:02Speaker 1: where she got their names. Actually, we're still in that
- 10:05Speaker 1: conversation because she says, what's your brother doing now? Shin's like,
- 10:10Speaker 1: he's dead. Lena gasps. Shin continues, he died on the
- 10:14Speaker 1: Eastern Front five years ago, so not that long after
- 10:17Speaker 1: she met him. I guess a year after or so.
- 10:21Speaker 1: Lena's like, I'm sorry. Shin says, no, it's okay. It's
- 10:26Speaker 1: kind of a pause, and then he says, remember when
- 10:28Speaker 1: you asked if there was something I wanted to do
- 10:29Speaker 1: when I left the army. Lana's like, yeah, Shin continues,
- 10:34Speaker 1: there isn't anything I want to do, but there's something
- 10:37Speaker 1: I have to do. I've been searching for him for
- 10:39Speaker 1: the last five years. Liana's like, you mean for his body.
- 10:45Speaker 1: We have kind of cut away from Lena. The camera
- 10:47Speaker 1: kind of zooms past the memorial stones, picking up speed
- 10:51Speaker 1: as SHINEX hails, and then we slow down and stop
- 10:55Speaker 1: in front of the stone that Lena is at and
- 10:58Speaker 1: it kind of catches the lights as Shinn says, no,
- 11:03Speaker 1: what and then we go to the opening theme, Yay,
- 11:07Speaker 1: what do you mean, no, Shin, what else could you
- 11:10Speaker 1: be looking for? Anyway back from the opening, we see
- 11:15Speaker 1: a red crosswalk signal and it says June twenty fourth,
- 11:18Speaker 1: twenty one forty eight, so this is eight days later.
- 11:21Speaker 1: Lena is standing at that crosswalk that she's always standing
- 11:24Speaker 1: at with a bunch of alvahs, and she doesn't look
- 11:27Speaker 1: super happy. She doesn't look terribly upset like she does sometimes,
- 11:30Speaker 1: but she doesn't look happy. Annette just kind of walks up, yawning,
- 11:34Speaker 1: and she's like, morning, Lena, I did not mean to
- 11:37Speaker 1: yawn there but if I say yaw, I know yawn.
- 11:41Speaker 1: Sorry anyway, Lena looks over at her really surprised, probably
- 11:45Speaker 1: because she's awake in the morning, and Annette smirks. Lena says, morning,
- 11:50Speaker 1: the light on the crosswalk signal turns green, and then
- 11:52Speaker 1: we cut to Lena looking so blissfully happy and chewing
- 11:56Speaker 1: not at the crosswalk, and she's like this is It's
- 12:00Speaker 1: ah good. We see that what she's eating is a
- 12:03Speaker 1: big piece of strawberry shortcake cake, and then Net's like, right,
- 12:07Speaker 1: the cream is artificial, but the strawberries are real. Lena
- 12:11Speaker 1: makes some happy little Lena noise, and Annette sets down
- 12:14Speaker 1: a mug next to her and says, oh right, wanna
- 12:17Speaker 1: go get party dresses next week for the Revolution Festival.
- 12:20Speaker 1: Lena is like, it's that time already. Annette nods, and
- 12:25Speaker 1: Lena says, do I have to go? Do you think?
- 12:28Speaker 1: Anette's like, of course, all the good dressmakers will be
- 12:31Speaker 1: booked if you don't act fast. Fuck they get custom dresses. Huh.
- 12:36Speaker 1: Lena's like, sorry, I'm a little busy. Annette takes a
- 12:40Speaker 1: sip of coffee and says, you haven't been around much lately.
- 12:43Speaker 1: Lena kind of forces a really pained smile and says,
- 12:48Speaker 1: h if you're looking for a dress, why not ask
- 12:50Speaker 1: a gentleman to go with you. I heard you met
- 12:53Speaker 1: another prospective partner, and that's like Rudolph right, he was cute.
- 12:58Speaker 1: Lena is surprised by this and says, you have something
- 13:02Speaker 1: good to say about him? Does that mean you're finally
- 13:04Speaker 1: and that cuts her off, not a chance. We cut
- 13:07Speaker 1: to like some crossed out pictures of dudes who I
- 13:11Speaker 1: guess are her suitors from the past, and we're kind
- 13:15Speaker 1: of panning through them, and we stop on a like
- 13:18Speaker 1: a child, like a young child, and then it says
- 13:23Speaker 1: he's five. Yeah, Lena looks exactly the way that I feel, like,
- 13:29Speaker 1: excuse me, what do you mean he's five? And also
- 13:32Speaker 1: that's legal? Is that legal? That's gotta be illegal. I
- 13:35Speaker 1: hope it's illegal to marry a five year old fucking
- 13:39Speaker 1: sand magnolia. Or we have other problems that I didn't
- 13:42Speaker 1: even know we had with this society, which is already
- 13:44Speaker 1: a mess anyway, And that says, I know they want
- 13:48Speaker 1: my family's money, but seriously, yeah, Annette, what the fuck?
- 13:51Speaker 1: Lena's like, why'd you put up all these photos of
- 13:54Speaker 1: your past prospects, and that says, my team did it
- 13:58Speaker 1: as a joke so I wouldn't forget they said, yeah,
- 14:02Speaker 1: what the fuck man. She kind of pauses and then says, Lena,
- 14:07Speaker 1: are you sure you're not tired? Your face is a mess.
- 14:11Speaker 1: Lena puts her hands on her cheeks and is like,
- 14:14Speaker 1: it is. It's not a mess, Lena, you look fine.
- 14:17Speaker 1: An that's like you're over using the pareraide. I told
- 14:21Speaker 1: you that sharing sensory data puts stress on your brain.
- 14:24Speaker 1: Lena's like, I just happened to be up all night
- 14:26Speaker 1: analyzing combat data. Annette's kind of expression falls. She's very
- 14:31Speaker 1: fucking serious now, and she says, I know said this before,
- 14:34Speaker 1: but there's no point in doing any favors for the
- 14:37Speaker 1: eighty six Jesus dude. Lena smiles in the most customer
- 14:42Speaker 1: servicey way that she can muster her and then we
- 14:45Speaker 1: cut to her walking pouting angrily down the hallway. It's
- 14:50Speaker 1: June thirtieth, twenty one forty eight. Shin is on the
- 14:53Speaker 1: parerade and they're just like having a conversation as she
- 14:56Speaker 1: walks down the hall. Strangely often, he says, so you
- 15:01Speaker 1: don't think it's okay to go to the party. Lena's like,
- 15:04Speaker 1: but but if there's a battle during the party, Sin says,
- 15:08Speaker 1: we'll be fine. Lena's like, who puts on a party
- 15:12Speaker 1: during wartime? Anyway? Shin says, nothing that happens inside the
- 15:16Speaker 1: wall to any effect on us. Lena gasps slightly and
- 15:19Speaker 1: stops walking. Shin continues, we appreciate the analysis of the
- 15:24Speaker 1: enemies you provide, but it's not something that needs to
- 15:26Speaker 1: take up all your private time. Lena kind of lowers
- 15:28Speaker 1: her head and she's like hugging her cap and books,
- 15:31Speaker 1: and she says, is my help unwanted? Captain knowsen. Shin's like, no,
- 15:37Speaker 1: analysis from a larger perspective that encompasses the entire theater
- 15:41Speaker 1: is valuable. Your estimates of enemy force composition are accurate
- 15:45Speaker 1: and of particular help. Thank you for that. Lena blesses slightly,
- 15:50Speaker 1: and it's like, I'm glad. Chin continues, but you don't
- 15:54Speaker 1: need to spend all your time on it. Lena goes
- 15:56Speaker 1: back to pouting. Chin says, too much time focusing on
- 15:59Speaker 1: the battlefield and you'll end up like me. Oh. Lena's like,
- 16:04Speaker 1: what kind of joke is that? But then she sighs understood.
- 16:08Speaker 1: She starts to walk again, and she's like, I'll go
- 16:10Speaker 1: enjoy myself with the stupid party and stuffy dress and
- 16:13Speaker 1: high heels. Shin kind of chuckles and says the Revolution festival.
- 16:19Speaker 1: Lena's like, do you remember something about it? Sen says,
- 16:23Speaker 1: I think I saw fireworks in a garden with a
- 16:26Speaker 1: fountain in front of the palace. Lena pauses like she's
- 16:29Speaker 1: processing this information, and she says the palace. Did you
- 16:32Speaker 1: used to live in District one? Sin's like, I don't
- 16:36Speaker 1: really remember, but I think so. Lena's like, oh wow.
- 16:41Speaker 1: Sen says, I remember going with my brother. Lena stops walking,
- 16:45Speaker 1: Sorry I shouldn't have. Sin's like, it's okay, I can't
- 16:49Speaker 1: remember the faces or voices of my family. Jeez, dude.
- 16:53Speaker 1: Lena looks up at the light that's streaming in through
- 16:56Speaker 1: the leaded glass window in the stairwell and says, he
- 17:00Speaker 1: said you'd probably be grown up, big and strong. I
- 17:02Speaker 1: could tell he really cared about you. Your brother really
- 17:05Speaker 1: wanted to go home and be with you again. Her
- 17:08Speaker 1: face falls and she starts to walk up the stairs.
- 17:11Speaker 1: Sheen says, I hope that's true, but just then the
- 17:15Speaker 1: cat starts me owting, and Lena looks really surprised, and
- 17:18Speaker 1: she's like, uh, captain, you're supposed to be on patrol,
- 17:22Speaker 1: aren't you. Fuck The cat meows again. Maybe the cat's
- 17:26Speaker 1: in the jugger, not Lena. Maybe you just don't understand
- 17:29Speaker 1: the complexities of war. Anyway, Lena says, are you in
- 17:32Speaker 1: your room? Shin's like, I apologize. That's interesting that he
- 17:37Speaker 1: wouldn't be out patrolling, right. Lena sighs, well, if you
- 17:42Speaker 1: decided it's not necessary, I'll respect that. But Shin kind
- 17:46Speaker 1: of cuts her off and says, I thought you'd be angry.
- 17:49Speaker 1: Lena is pouting because she is angry, and she says,
- 17:52Speaker 1: I'm not that much of a stuffed shirt. Then she
- 17:55Speaker 1: jumps as she turns the corner at a landing up
- 17:57Speaker 1: the stairs. A couple is standing on landing above, like
- 18:02Speaker 1: on top of each other, like on top of each other,
- 18:06Speaker 1: and the guy says, no one else see us here,
- 18:09Speaker 1: and the girl's like, yeah, this is a public staircase, guys.
- 18:13Speaker 1: The cat mews again, and Shin's like, hey, stop it.
- 18:16Speaker 1: Lena is so like thrown off by all of this
- 18:20Speaker 1: that she gasps and then blushes and Shin's like, sorry, Major,
- 18:24Speaker 1: that it's not why she gasped, and Lena is like
- 18:26Speaker 1: watching them as they're going in for kiss, and we
- 18:29Speaker 1: kind of cut to just their shadows as they're closing
- 18:31Speaker 1: in on each other, and Lena looks panicked for some reason,
- 18:34Speaker 1: and Chin's like, Major, Lena is still blushing and she's
- 18:39Speaker 1: like panicking, and she just rushes off and she's like
- 18:42Speaker 1: it's nothing, really, it's nothing. It sounds like it's something.
- 18:46Speaker 1: Before this can get any weirder, we hear static on
- 18:50Speaker 1: the power raid line, and Lena comes to a dead stop,
- 18:54Speaker 1: totally confused. Chin says, Major, we're beginning preparations for combat what.
- 19:01Speaker 1: Lena also says what, and then says no warnings have
- 19:04Speaker 1: been issued here. Sin's like, no, the Legion are coming.
- 19:08Speaker 1: We cut to Lena's reflection as she looks out the
- 19:11Speaker 1: window and there is a black and yellow spider on
- 19:14Speaker 1: the window frame, which I tried to look up what
- 19:16Speaker 1: kind of spider it could be. Maybe it's a yellow
- 19:18Speaker 1: garden spider, which is an orb weaver. But also I
- 19:21Speaker 1: think that this isn't a real spider. Actually, I think
- 19:24Speaker 1: that someone just drew this because it like didn't have
- 19:27Speaker 1: you know, like spiders have two sections of their body.
- 19:30Speaker 1: They got like that front section and then like the
- 19:33Speaker 1: back section. Wow, Michelle, that was a great description. And
- 19:36Speaker 1: this just has the one section, which is sometimes how
- 19:38Speaker 1: I draw a spider when I don't remember how to
- 19:40Speaker 1: draw a spider, So I don't think it's a real spider.
- 19:42Speaker 1: And I'm sorry that you had to listen to me
- 19:44Speaker 1: figure that out. Anyway. From Lena's reflection in the window
- 19:48Speaker 1: on the stairwell, we transition directly to her reflection on
- 19:53Speaker 1: the screen in the control room. It's blurry though, because
- 19:56Speaker 1: the screens are what's in fogus. And we hear right
- 19:58Speaker 1: and say confirm we're ready to go anytime. Theo's like
- 20:03Speaker 1: same with the third platoon, Shin says Roger. Lena's reflection
- 20:07Speaker 1: now comes into focus, and she says, Captain Knowsen, how
- 20:10Speaker 1: did you know the Legion were coming if you weren't
- 20:12Speaker 1: on patrol? How'd you find out so fast? My thoughts exactly.
- 20:17Speaker 1: We hear some more weird static like voices coming through
- 20:21Speaker 1: the power aid and Lena gasps. Shin says, Major, would
- 20:25Speaker 1: you please cut your power aid? Lena's like what? Shin
- 20:29Speaker 1: continues there are a lot of black sheep this time.
- 20:32Speaker 1: It's dangerous to remain sync with me. Lena's like, black sheep.
- 20:38Speaker 1: Shin says, if you're curious, I'll explain later, but cut
- 20:41Speaker 1: the sink, please. Hm. Lana's like, I can't know what's
- 20:46Speaker 1: going on without the power raid, I'm not cutting it.
- 20:50Speaker 1: Shin kind of pauses and then says, I warned you.
- 20:52Speaker 1: Oh fuck, Maybe this is the thing. We cut to
- 20:56Speaker 1: that roster screen that has all of the stacks of
- 20:58Speaker 1: the Juggernauts on it, and Shin's speed like spikes and
- 21:02Speaker 1: we see on the other screen that his icon is
- 21:04Speaker 1: heading towards a massive amount of legion. Lena gasps, and
- 21:08Speaker 1: she's like, Undertaker, you're too far ahead, they'll surround you.
- 21:12Speaker 1: And then we hear a voice say mom. Lena gasps.
- 21:16Speaker 1: The static on the line increases, and it's not just static.
- 21:20Speaker 1: It is super distorted, distressed sounding voices. Lena says, what
- 21:28Speaker 1: the static and voices continue to echo on the line.
- 21:31Speaker 1: Lana's like, this isn't static. Her pen rolls across her
- 21:36Speaker 1: desk and then falls and hits the floor, and ink
- 21:38Speaker 1: starts to spill from the tip of it, and we
- 21:41Speaker 1: hear again, someone say mom, and then help me. She
- 21:47Speaker 1: bends over to get her pen from the floor, and
- 21:50Speaker 1: her eyes widen in horror, and the voices continue, help me,
- 21:55Speaker 1: it's so hot. She starts to hyperventally. She sits back
- 21:59Speaker 1: up her chair and she starts to look around horrified,
- 22:03Speaker 1: as these voices continue to just echo through the power rate,
- 22:07Speaker 1: just kind of constantly, over and over again, and she
- 22:10Speaker 1: puts her hands on her head and she just fucking
- 22:12Speaker 1: screams no, no, and we hear Shin say Major, Major Malise,
- 22:19Speaker 1: she is like not okay enough to be listening to him.
- 22:23Speaker 1: Her pen is leaking out inc onto the floor still,
- 22:26Speaker 1: and the voices are only getting louder, and she's like cowering.
- 22:29Speaker 1: Her hands are still on her head and her knees
- 22:31Speaker 1: are to her chest and she's wincing. Shin says, I'm
- 22:35Speaker 1: cutting the link, Major, and right before he does, we
- 22:37Speaker 1: hear I don't want to die, Lena gasps, and or right,
- 22:41Speaker 1: snap open. That's quiet. Now the line's been cut, Lena says, kaye, Yeah,
- 22:48Speaker 1: what the fuck. We cut to her throwing her bag
- 22:51Speaker 1: down on her desk and then sitting down on her bed.
- 22:54Speaker 1: She puts her hands over her face. We get a
- 22:57Speaker 1: close up on her hands. They slide down a little
- 22:59Speaker 1: bit rest on her cheeks. She says that voice. She winces,
- 23:05Speaker 1: then gasps and goes to turn on the lamp on
- 23:08Speaker 1: her desk. She opens her notebook and starts to reach
- 23:12Speaker 1: to pick up the pararaide, and the light in the
- 23:15Speaker 1: room that was kind of blue because it's in the evening,
- 23:18Speaker 1: just goes red and she just hears mom, Mom, Mom,
- 23:23Speaker 1: it's so hot. Help me. The shot of her in
- 23:26Speaker 1: her room flips upside down and is just bathed in
- 23:29Speaker 1: red light. She full on just panics and she stands
- 23:33Speaker 1: up quickly, knocking over her chair and she's just like what.
- 23:36Speaker 1: She starts to hyperventilate as the voices continue to echo
- 23:39Speaker 1: in her head. We cut to a shot of a
- 23:41Speaker 1: picture of her dad, and then like a stuffed animal,
- 23:43Speaker 1: and then the empty flower vase on her windowstill and
- 23:46Speaker 1: this is all still upside down and the room is
- 23:48Speaker 1: just spinning. Now, this is super fucking cool. And she's
- 23:51Speaker 1: just like no, and she puts her hands over her ears.
- 23:54Speaker 1: Then we get this weird close shot and then someone
- 23:57Speaker 1: reaches out and grabs both of her shoulders and everything
- 24:00Speaker 1: stops Lena gasps. We see the bottom half of a
- 24:04Speaker 1: face as it says, I don't want to die. She's alone. Now,
- 24:09Speaker 1: it's quiet, the room is blue again with night approaching,
- 24:15Speaker 1: and it's oriented correctly again, and she's still just standing
- 24:19Speaker 1: in the middle of it. Her hands fall slack to
- 24:22Speaker 1: her sides and she collapses to her knees. Tears start
- 24:26Speaker 1: to stream down her face. She looks just like so
- 24:31Speaker 1: blankly horrified. Her gaze shifts to the power raids still
- 24:35Speaker 1: on her desk, and she gasps. Then we see her
- 24:40Speaker 1: frightened reflection in the window as she stares at it.
- 24:44Speaker 1: She puts her hand over her face and stands. Let
- 24:47Speaker 1: me go to the title card I'm with you. I'll
- 24:51Speaker 1: just pause because what like that was a bunch. It
- 24:55Speaker 1: was done really really well, her panic and making everything
- 25:00Speaker 1: upside down and read super good. And I doubt I
- 25:04Speaker 1: can really express how well done this was through my
- 25:08Speaker 1: voice alone, but it was really really good, especially like
- 25:13Speaker 1: the pause right before the eye don't want to die
- 25:16Speaker 1: so good and it gave me chills. I wanted to
- 25:19Speaker 1: say that when I was writing notes. Yeah, So what
- 25:23Speaker 1: the fuck is going on? Though? Like? Why did she
- 25:27Speaker 1: hear Kanye why did she hear any of those voices?
- 25:31Speaker 1: This is obviously though, what's freaked out the other handlers?
- 25:35Speaker 1: I would assume, But why am I asking these questions
- 25:38Speaker 1: when we could just continue reading and find out what's
- 25:40Speaker 1: going on? So let's do that. It's June thirtieth, twenty one,
- 25:45Speaker 1: forty eight, so the same day, but I guess a
- 25:48Speaker 1: little bit earlier. We're passing by a metal wall and
- 25:52Speaker 1: we hear someone say, mom, Shin's juggernaut is like go
- 25:56Speaker 1: in places, is like running around, and Lena's like, what,
- 26:01Speaker 1: it's not static. We hear a barrage of repeating voices
- 26:06Speaker 1: just like we heard on Lena's end, as Shin's juggernaut
- 26:09Speaker 1: jumps into battle like literally like he's leaping, and he
- 26:13Speaker 1: like throws his grappling hook into a mural on like
- 26:17Speaker 1: the side of a wall, and it's that mural of
- 26:19Speaker 1: that woman with the sword again, because she's just everywhere,
- 26:22Speaker 1: and then he swings with it and the other juggernauts
- 26:25Speaker 1: are like firing on someone. I think, I don't really know.
- 26:28Speaker 1: I'm getting confused, and I think Ryden says, you're enjoying
- 26:33Speaker 1: this more than usual, and then addresses Lena are you okay.
- 26:38Speaker 1: The building that's like Shin grapple hooked like falls down
- 26:43Speaker 1: and it like gets some legion and Lena is just
- 26:46Speaker 1: like screaming in the background now and Shin's like major
- 26:49Speaker 1: major malise. He slides out of the way of like
- 26:52Speaker 1: these two Legion things and then he shoots one of
- 26:55Speaker 1: them down and then he uses his high frequency blade
- 26:58Speaker 1: on the other one. Some of the other people are
- 27:01Speaker 1: shooting from like really a pie and a missile gets
- 27:04Speaker 1: shot but I'm not sure by who, and it like
- 27:06Speaker 1: falls right by that knockdown building, and Lena's like, no,
- 27:10Speaker 1: he could stop. Shin, who is still jumping around, says,
- 27:13Speaker 1: I'm cutting the link major. He goes to reach for
- 27:16Speaker 1: the parade, but as he does, he hears I don't
- 27:19Speaker 1: want to die and gasps. With the parade cut, THEO says,
- 27:25Speaker 1: damn it, that's Kaye. Dia is like, how didn't you
- 27:28Speaker 1: torture Juggernaut. Oh, Shin was the person who started the
- 27:32Speaker 1: fire in the last episode, right, and it's like they
- 27:35Speaker 1: took her shit. Shin like seems to be like searching
- 27:39Speaker 1: through the Legion that he can see or something. We're
- 27:42Speaker 1: seeing these flashes of like red like thermal imaging images
- 27:47Speaker 1: of the legion as he's looking through them, and he
- 27:50Speaker 1: stops at one and it says, I don't want to die.
- 27:54Speaker 1: Shin's eyes narrow. He jumps down from a building and
- 27:58Speaker 1: he's like gunsling heading to zero sixty distance eight hundred
- 28:02Speaker 1: the enemy's front rank the third growllf from the right.
- 28:05Speaker 1: Karna's eyes narrow, Roger. We hear I don't want to die,
- 28:09Speaker 1: over and over again, and everybody in Spearhead looks fucking miserable.
- 28:16Speaker 1: Karna steadies her hands on the trigger and shoots at
- 28:19Speaker 1: it three times. Then she says target silenced. We pull
- 28:23Speaker 1: back on a bigger shot at the battlefield and things
- 28:26Speaker 1: are slowing down, and then we cut to some flower
- 28:29Speaker 1: petals caught by the wind in the night sky where
- 28:32Speaker 1: at the barracks it's night. We see a hand putting
- 28:35Speaker 1: down coffee on a desk and it's right In. He's
- 28:38Speaker 1: standing in front of the desk where Shin is sitting
- 28:41Speaker 1: in the kind of common area, and he says, good
- 28:44Speaker 1: work today. Shin's like thanks. He is holding a book
- 28:50Speaker 1: trying to read it. Right In looks over at the
- 28:54Speaker 1: others and then says, everybody was really giving it there
- 28:57Speaker 1: all today. We cut to someone like working on a
- 29:00Speaker 1: juggernaut and the hanger, and then back to them, and
- 29:02Speaker 1: Chin says, they wanted revenge. Huh right, It's like it's
- 29:06Speaker 1: a nasty thing. But you know, I thought they'd all
- 29:08Speaker 1: pass out from exhaustion. We see that all of Spearhead
- 29:13Speaker 1: is just kind of hanging out in the room and
- 29:15Speaker 1: doing stuff like playing hard and throwing darts and writing continues.
- 29:20Speaker 1: Maybe they're all feeling lonely. I think that's what's going on.
- 29:24Speaker 1: They don't want to be alone with the thoughts of
- 29:26Speaker 1: what happened, which is pretty upsetting even though I don't
- 29:29Speaker 1: understand it. Chin turns to look at him. Writing continues
- 29:34Speaker 1: at this time normally he points to his ear. Sin's
- 29:37Speaker 1: like yeah right, in kind of half laughs and says,
- 29:41Speaker 1: no handler's ever called after hearing those voices. No more
- 29:44Speaker 1: report writing for you, huh. He starts to walk away.
- 29:49Speaker 1: Chin goes to pick up the coffee cup and his
- 29:51Speaker 1: hand stops abruptly before he reaches it, and he says, yes,
- 29:55Speaker 1: it's fine, Major, Oh my god, you called. Everyone looks
- 29:59Speaker 1: over We are at him simultaneously in total shock and
- 30:03Speaker 1: Rideing's like I'm impressed. Lena is just talking to Shin
- 30:08Speaker 1: right now as everyone is still going about their normal
- 30:11Speaker 1: evening hanging out stuff. So Lena says, I'm sorry for
- 30:15Speaker 1: losing control today. Shit, Lene, I I think it's okay.
- 30:19Speaker 1: Sin's like, it's fine. There's kind of a brief pause,
- 30:22Speaker 1: and then Lena says, Captain. She takes a shaky breath.
- 30:27Speaker 1: Those voices I heard during the battle. What are they?
- 30:31Speaker 1: Shin's like, once I almost died? What Lena's like? What?
- 30:36Speaker 1: Shin continues, Actually, I think I did die. We get
- 30:40Speaker 1: a quick shot of Shin's neck covered in a bandana,
- 30:44Speaker 1: but if you look really closely here there might be
- 30:48Speaker 1: a little bit of a scar peeking out. We cut
- 30:50Speaker 1: t Shin's eye as he's reading, so it's scanning back
- 30:54Speaker 1: and forth across the page during this entire segment, which
- 30:57Speaker 1: is really interesting because it's like he is siltaneously greeting
- 31:00Speaker 1: and talking to her. Anyway, he continues, So that's why
- 31:04Speaker 1: I can hear them, the voices of the ghosts that
- 31:06Speaker 1: died like I did, but are still here. What Lena's like, ghosts?
- 31:14Speaker 1: But there were just the legion rights. Shin's like, I
- 31:19Speaker 1: think they are ghosts. As well. They're an army of
- 31:21Speaker 1: a lost country with no reason to exist now that
- 31:23Speaker 1: the Empire's gone. Lina's like, so the reason you know
- 31:28Speaker 1: when the Legion are coming? Shin flips the next page
- 31:32Speaker 1: of his book. Yeah, it's because I can hear them
- 31:34Speaker 1: when they come. I know. I always hear them, even
- 31:37Speaker 1: when I'm asleep. Fuck. Lana's like, wait, always do you
- 31:41Speaker 1: hear them right now? Shin looks up and sees that
- 31:45Speaker 1: Karina and one of the other girls are like waving
- 31:48Speaker 1: good night to him, and Lena continues like not just
- 31:52Speaker 1: during battle, even now, shim waves back to them. Lana's like,
- 31:56Speaker 1: how far away do they have to be? Shin says,
- 32:00Speaker 1: I don't know the exact distance, but I'm aware of
- 32:03Speaker 1: every legion past the former borders of the Republic. Fuck.
- 32:07Speaker 1: Lena's like, isn't it painful? Shin closes his eyes and
- 32:13Speaker 1: puts the book down. I'm used to it. It's been
- 32:17Speaker 1: a long time since it started. Yeah, when someone tells
- 32:20Speaker 1: you that they were used to it, it's painful anyway.
- 32:23Speaker 1: Lena's like, since when Shin stands and he picks up
- 32:27Speaker 1: the coffee cup and the book and he's like walking somewhere.
- 32:30Speaker 1: Lena continues, and did you hear Lieutenant Kaye Tanya's voice
- 32:35Speaker 1: because she became a ghost as well. Shin exits the
- 32:39Speaker 1: room and he takes his sip of the coffee. He's
- 32:42Speaker 1: like walking down the hall now, and Lena's like, Captain, yeah,
- 32:45Speaker 1: he hasn't really said anything in a little while. Shin says,
- 32:49Speaker 1: the Republic government predicts that the war will end in
- 32:51Speaker 1: two years, right. Lena's like, how did you know? Shin says,
- 32:56Speaker 1: THEO heard from the commander you were told about before.
- 32:59Speaker 1: The Legion has a time in a little under two years,
- 33:01Speaker 1: it'll run out right. Lana's like, yeah. The Legion's central
- 33:05Speaker 1: processing unit is model after a human brain. There's a
- 33:08Speaker 1: design that'll cause it to stop functioning in two years,
- 33:12Speaker 1: Shin says, So if it just stops working, they just
- 33:16Speaker 1: need to replace it with another beforehandlanus like, you can't mean,
- 33:22Speaker 1: Shin says, human brains. What what do you mean? Human brains?
- 33:26Speaker 1: Lena gasps me too. We get some really random shots
- 33:30Speaker 1: of like the mural and that dummy outside and like
- 33:32Speaker 1: a rat eating something, and then we see that picture
- 33:35Speaker 1: of the sixth handler drawing the theodid on the wall,
- 33:38Speaker 1: and Shin says, our central nervous systems are more advanced
- 33:41Speaker 1: than other living creatures. We cut two rats eating food
- 33:45Speaker 1: on top of a light fixture that's hanging. Shin continues,
- 33:50Speaker 1: The Republic forbids burial of the eighty six. The brains themselves, Rod,
- 33:54Speaker 1: and I've heard multiple Legion with the same voice, so
- 33:57Speaker 1: it's likely more of a copy of the brainus like. Then,
- 34:01Speaker 1: Shin continues, Kaye is probably still out there somewhere, so
- 34:05Speaker 1: I don't think it's the same as what you'd call
- 34:07Speaker 1: a soul. The original human's mind isn't inside and you
- 34:10Speaker 1: can't communicate with it. It's just a fading echo of
- 34:14Speaker 1: who they were. It's their thoughts copied at the exact
- 34:17Speaker 1: moment of death. Fuck the ghosts that haunt the Legion.
- 34:21Speaker 1: He opens the door to his room. Plane is like,
- 34:25Speaker 1: and those are the black sheep. Chin walks into the
- 34:28Speaker 1: room and says, yeah, the black sheep hid among the
- 34:31Speaker 1: white ones. He puts his book down on top of
- 34:36Speaker 1: a stack of books on that like refrigerator cabinet thing
- 34:38Speaker 1: that I told you about, and continues, of course the
- 34:41Speaker 1: black sheep are more common now. He kneels down and
- 34:44Speaker 1: opens the freezer cabinets major, you're gonna lose this warlaneus like,
- 34:50Speaker 1: what do you mean? Shin takes a book out of
- 34:54Speaker 1: the freezer thing and closes it and says, the Legion
- 34:57Speaker 1: with the new designs won't shut down in two years,
- 34:59Speaker 1: but what about the eighty six? He throws the book
- 35:02Speaker 1: onto the desk and sits down. The only ones left
- 35:04Speaker 1: your children, and they're already fighting. We'll all be dead
- 35:07Speaker 1: soon when that happens. Will you, Alba fight now that
- 35:11Speaker 1: you've learned to push the costs of war onto someone else.
- 35:15Speaker 1: He detaches his holster and lays it on the desk.
- 35:18Speaker 1: Lena is like, well, Shen says, you can't. Lena says,
- 35:23Speaker 1: but there are a fewer Legion now. Shin takes a
- 35:26Speaker 1: sip of his coffee and Lena continues, they're down to
- 35:29Speaker 1: about half of the original number compared to a few
- 35:31Speaker 1: years ago. Schen says, to the degree you can observe, right,
- 35:36Speaker 1: Lana gasps. Shin continues, It's true that the amount of
- 35:40Speaker 1: Legion you can observe has decreased, but that's only because
- 35:43Speaker 1: they are more at the rear. Fuck. Lena is like,
- 35:46Speaker 1: they're conserving and building their forces. That's not possible. They
- 35:50Speaker 1: aren't that smart, Shin stands, or so you thought, that's
- 35:55Speaker 1: the other reason you'll lose. He opens the door. Lane
- 35:58Speaker 1: is like, you mean, Shin, I guess is outside now,
- 36:03Speaker 1: because we got like a close shot of some dying flowers.
- 36:06Speaker 1: I guess in the garden. And he says, the heads
- 36:09Speaker 1: of the dead did the Legion take are all badly damaged,
- 36:11Speaker 1: but the black sheep are still better at processing than
- 36:13Speaker 1: the normal legion. A shriveled up flower falls, revealing a
- 36:18Speaker 1: healthy red one behind it that has like a little
- 36:21Speaker 1: beetle on it, which I thought was a firefly but
- 36:23Speaker 1: was not. Shin continues, so what if they got an
- 36:27Speaker 1: undamaged brain? What? The beetle lifts its wings up and
- 36:33Speaker 1: flies away. Lane's like, is that possible? We're following the
- 36:38Speaker 1: beetle as it's flying now. Shin says a ghost commander
- 36:42Speaker 1: who leads and guides the unthinking legion. We call them shepherds,
- 36:47Speaker 1: and the armies they lead are vastly more powerful than
- 36:49Speaker 1: the others. Shin's walking at this point. Blena says, Wait,
- 36:54Speaker 1: this isn't a hypothesis. They already exist. Can you hear
- 36:58Speaker 1: their voices. Shin is walking down the stairs. I can
- 37:03Speaker 1: their commanders and their voices travel far. He stops walking,
- 37:06Speaker 1: and we get this shot of him, just kind of
- 37:09Speaker 1: the bottom of his face and the top of his
- 37:12Speaker 1: torso framed through the railing of the stairs as he
- 37:16Speaker 1: smiles and says, yes, there's one at the rear of
- 37:21Speaker 1: combat District one. The smile fades and he's like holding
- 37:25Speaker 1: his fist to his chest and it's shaking. Lena says,
- 37:29Speaker 1: but the Republic will lose years from now, after you've
- 37:32Speaker 1: all been wiped out, right. Sin's like, that's true, Lena continues,
- 37:37Speaker 1: So we just need to wipe out the legion before then.
- 37:39Speaker 1: Shin half smiles in a kind of almost condescending, bless
- 37:44Speaker 1: your heart kind of way, and Lena continues, let's fight.
- 37:49Speaker 1: I'm with you, no, I mean, I'll just do my best.
- 37:53Speaker 1: I'll analyze the enemy, come up with plans, anything I
- 37:56Speaker 1: can do. Shin continues down the stairs, says Captain Nosen.
- 38:02Speaker 1: Shin pauses. Lena continues, your term of service is ending
- 38:06Speaker 1: this year, right, so let's win before then and both survive.
- 38:10Speaker 1: Aw As she says this, Shin's eyes narrow and He
- 38:14Speaker 1: looks to the side and then closes his eyes and says, yes,
- 38:19Speaker 1: he looks hurt, maybe crushed even. Can we call it
- 38:24Speaker 1: a night? It slights out here? He starts to walk again.
- 38:28Speaker 1: Lena's like, sorry for keeping you up so late. Good night.
- 38:32Speaker 1: With a call ended, Shin exits the scene, and all
- 38:36Speaker 1: we have left is the window in the stairwell with
- 38:39Speaker 1: the moon framed in it, And then we go to
- 38:42Speaker 1: the ending theme, which is that shot of the moon
- 38:45Speaker 1: framed in the window, and the picture of the scene
- 38:49Speaker 1: is you know, red and the moon is blue. But
- 38:52Speaker 1: that's not the end, because it's never the end. In
- 38:54Speaker 1: eighty six, we cut to a shower head that's off,
- 38:57Speaker 1: but a drip of water runs down the side and
- 38:59Speaker 1: then falls to the ground. Shin is in a very
- 39:02Speaker 1: dirty bathroom. Did they not have time to clean this?
- 39:05Speaker 1: It might just be one of those places that is
- 39:07Speaker 1: just always dirty now, you know, like set in dirt,
- 39:11Speaker 1: like I feel like I've talked about before. But it's
- 39:13Speaker 1: pretty gross in there. And there's like a light fixture
- 39:16Speaker 1: on the ceiling, but it doesn't have any light bulbs
- 39:18Speaker 1: in it, so there's like no light in the bathroom
- 39:21Speaker 1: except for moonlight. So it's kind of blue in there anyway.
- 39:24Speaker 1: He is putting his jacket in what looks like a locker,
- 39:28Speaker 1: and then he goes to untie the bandana around his neck.
- 39:32Speaker 1: We get a close shot of, you know, his face
- 39:36Speaker 1: and the upper section of his chest, and as this
- 39:41Speaker 1: is happening, we kind of lose sight of his eyes,
- 39:43Speaker 1: like the camera drops slightly below that, so we're only
- 39:45Speaker 1: seeing the bottom half of his face now. And as
- 39:48Speaker 1: he pulls the bandana from around his neck and goes
- 39:50Speaker 1: to place it in the locker, the scene turns red.
- 39:53Speaker 1: We have the same shot, but he's a child now.
- 39:55Speaker 1: Hands burst forth from the right side of the screen
- 39:58Speaker 1: where the bandana was and they rab him by the neck,
- 40:01Speaker 1: forcing him back against the wall. We cut to a
- 40:04Speaker 1: close shot of the person who the hands belong to,
- 40:06Speaker 1: just the lower half of their face as they scream
- 40:09Speaker 1: it's all your fault. From there, we cut to a
- 40:12Speaker 1: close shot of Shin's face now as he turns. The
- 40:17Speaker 1: room has returned to the blue palette from before his memory,
- 40:20Speaker 1: but his eyes are still glowing red with the intensity
- 40:23Speaker 1: of that scene. He's turned to look at the mirror
- 40:26Speaker 1: and he's studying his own reflection. In it. The mirror
- 40:29Speaker 1: is cracked and there's a section of it that is
- 40:32Speaker 1: severed right at his neck. We can see at this
- 40:35Speaker 1: point just his mouth, neck, and shoulders in the mirror,
- 40:40Speaker 1: and on his neck is a large horizontal scar. He
- 40:43Speaker 1: puts his hand on the mirror near his neck. We
- 40:46Speaker 1: cut back so we can see his full face. He's
- 40:50Speaker 1: smiling peacefully, blankly. It's not the kind of smile you
- 40:57Speaker 1: want someone to have, not the kind smile that means
- 41:00Speaker 1: good things are happening, the one that means you're resigned
- 41:04Speaker 1: to something horrible maybe, And that's okay. And his eyes
- 41:12Speaker 1: are still shining red in the low blue light, and
- 41:16Speaker 1: he says, I'll be going soon, brother, and then we
- 41:21Speaker 1: get the next episode title card through to the end
- 41:24Speaker 1: and that's it. Yea. Oh so closing thoughts, Yeah, that
- 41:30Speaker 1: was rough for me. I had to redo parts several
- 41:33Speaker 1: times because I wanted them to be cool enough for you,
- 41:35Speaker 1: and they're not. But they're better than they were when
- 41:39Speaker 1: I did the first take, I hope. So that's a lot, right,
- 41:45Speaker 1: That's basically all of it. So we know now why
- 41:49Speaker 1: they were so prepared all the time, and why Lena
- 41:53Speaker 1: was always late to tell them about legion movements because
- 41:56Speaker 1: Shin can hear them coming apparently, and it stated more
- 42:00Speaker 1: plainly in the light novel, But yeah, they're supposed to
- 42:04Speaker 1: be on patrol all the time basically so they can
- 42:07Speaker 1: catch the legion and stuff and see movements and that
- 42:10Speaker 1: kind of thing. But because Shin can just hear them,
- 42:14Speaker 1: they just don't patrol, which actually makes their experience in
- 42:18Speaker 1: Spearhead like really really pleasant and more pleasant than in
- 42:22Speaker 1: their other squadron things that they were in, and more
- 42:25Speaker 1: pleasant than it usually would be in Spearhead if Shin
- 42:27Speaker 1: wasn't there. And that's the reason that they're like hanging
- 42:30Speaker 1: out and like cooking things and like going to abandoned
- 42:33Speaker 1: towns and finding cool food and stuff and like playing
- 42:37Speaker 1: basketball and darts and shits and honestly having a life
- 42:41Speaker 1: that doesn't look terrible except when they're fighting. It's because
- 42:46Speaker 1: of this terrible weight that's on Shin, And I mean,
- 42:49Speaker 1: obviously that is not their fault. They're not responsible, and
- 42:53Speaker 1: it's a really interesting consequence of a really terrible thing
- 42:55Speaker 1: for him. That's, you know, for life can be more
- 43:00Speaker 1: normal than they've been in a while. But yeah, so
- 43:04Speaker 1: we've seen Shinn reading a lot, and if you remember,
- 43:09Speaker 1: and Ju asked him if a book was good or something,
- 43:12Speaker 1: and he said like that he was using it to
- 43:15Speaker 1: distract him basically, so he's just reading so he doesn't
- 43:18Speaker 1: focus on the voices, which is terrible. And I don't
- 43:21Speaker 1: know because it sounds like he like kind of hears
- 43:23Speaker 1: all the Legion voices, which some of them are just static,
- 43:27Speaker 1: but I assume that also means he's also sometimes hearing
- 43:30Speaker 1: like help me and I don't want to die and
- 43:32Speaker 1: shit all the time, which sounds terrible. I'm surprised he's
- 43:36Speaker 1: as okay as he is. And yeah, he's really really reserved,
- 43:40Speaker 1: really quiet. Maybe there's just too much going on in
- 43:42Speaker 1: his head to be kind of loud and boisterous all
- 43:45Speaker 1: the time. But also we have this new thing, well
- 43:49Speaker 1: we saw it last episode two, where something is up
- 43:52Speaker 1: with his brother and his relationship. I mean, obviously his
- 43:55Speaker 1: brother is dead, but something bad happened between them, and
- 44:01Speaker 1: I guess what he's looking for on the battlefield is
- 44:03Speaker 1: his brother's legion eything. We got some pretty good evidence
- 44:09Speaker 1: that his brother or his brother's brain is the commander
- 44:13Speaker 1: of that Legion thing, the shepherd that he was talking
- 44:17Speaker 1: about by the way his facial expressions looked when he
- 44:20Speaker 1: said that, which I think is really cool. It's something
- 44:23Speaker 1: to really focus on about Shin. He doesn't have big emotions,
- 44:27Speaker 1: but he usually has some facial tells, especially as we
- 44:32Speaker 1: go forward. It's something to keep an eye on because
- 44:34Speaker 1: it's pretty consistent in the anime that they will portray
- 44:39Speaker 1: his emotions just with minor facial expressions, which I think
- 44:42Speaker 1: is really cool. Anyway, so we got all that shit happening.
- 44:46Speaker 1: We know now that the Legion is taking brains human
- 44:50Speaker 1: brains and using them to power their little mech things,
- 44:55Speaker 1: which is real fucked up, and I guess that's why
- 45:00Speaker 1: he shots Kujo in the head. Maybe you gotta do
- 45:05Speaker 1: serious damage to the brain so that the Legion can't
- 45:09Speaker 1: take them. You know. Obviously they just missed Kaye's brain.
- 45:14Speaker 1: I guess. I don't really know why they got Kaye,
- 45:16Speaker 1: but they did, so that sucks. So I guess, you know,
- 45:20Speaker 1: Kujo seeing Shin approach and realizing that he wasn't going
- 45:25Speaker 1: to be part of this horrible after death tragedy zombie
- 45:31Speaker 1: thing where he kills his comrades must have been very
- 45:35Speaker 1: blissful for him, which is why he seems so calm
- 45:39Speaker 1: and happy when he saw Shin even though he was dying. Yay,
- 45:44Speaker 1: so that's good. So this is just a total mess
- 45:47Speaker 1: for Shin. So he's got to like kill people so
- 45:49Speaker 1: they don't become part of the Legion, and he probably
- 45:52Speaker 1: is here and his brother. I don't know what's happening,
- 45:54Speaker 1: but it's bad. And the Legion are not going to
- 45:56Speaker 1: deactivate in two years because they just keep getting brains,
- 46:00Speaker 1: so bad stuff, I think, oh right. And the other
- 46:06Speaker 1: thing is that this is the definitely the Republic's fault.
- 46:12Speaker 1: I think when I originally heard that the eighty six
- 46:16Speaker 1: weren't getting graves or maybe they said buried, I don't
- 46:20Speaker 1: remember what they had originally said in last episode, but
- 46:23Speaker 1: I had just kind of assumed that meant that they
- 46:24Speaker 1: were getting some sort of mass burial or you know,
- 46:27Speaker 1: being put you know, just in a place with no gravestones.
- 46:32Speaker 1: But that's not what's happening. What's happening is they're just
- 46:35Speaker 1: fucking leaving them on the battlefield to just like rod
- 46:38Speaker 1: or be consumed by wildlife, which is really really sad,
- 46:41Speaker 1: Like they don't have any sort of memorial or ceremony
- 46:45Speaker 1: that ends their life, which humans really like. I mean,
- 46:49Speaker 1: I actually don't care for burials myself and that kind
- 46:52Speaker 1: of thing, but it's just really mean to deny someone
- 46:55Speaker 1: like a final resting place and just be like, well,
- 46:57Speaker 1: you're just gonna lay where you died in the middle
- 46:59Speaker 1: of a battlefield forever. It's gross and it's gross to
- 47:03Speaker 1: the people who are around them who have to just
- 47:06Speaker 1: let them go that instant. I don't know, man so
- 47:09Speaker 1: because of them for some reason deciding that they're not
- 47:12Speaker 1: even gonna bury these people at all. The Legion had
- 47:16Speaker 1: just has access to free brains, which is real fucked up.
- 47:19Speaker 1: And I doubt that every unit is as proactive as
- 47:25Speaker 1: Shins is in making sure that the Legion aren't getting
- 47:28Speaker 1: brains like you can't. I don't think they communicate with
- 47:31Speaker 1: each other. It's not like he can go like, hey,
- 47:33Speaker 1: guys in I don't know another unit, like make sure
- 47:38Speaker 1: you make all the brains dead so no one can
- 47:41Speaker 1: make you a zombie and the Legion, I don't think
- 47:43Speaker 1: that's happening, and I don't know, so this is really bad.
- 47:48Speaker 1: It's just constant free brains for the Legion that are
- 47:51Speaker 1: apparently being replicated, so bad shit. Yeah, so I guess
- 47:56Speaker 1: when the voices are loud enough is when they can
- 47:59Speaker 1: be heard through the past, and I'm sure that also
- 48:02Speaker 1: means that all the other Spearhead Squadron members are also
- 48:05Speaker 1: hearing them, which probably really sucks for them when they're
- 48:08Speaker 1: connected to Shin. Yeah, so sorry, I'm just working through
- 48:12Speaker 1: this all. But I guess the only other thing that
- 48:14Speaker 1: I wanted to say is, good fucking job Lena. Like
- 48:18Speaker 1: she is the first person who's ever dealt with a
- 48:22Speaker 1: unit that Shin's been on that hasn't gone crazy or
- 48:25Speaker 1: killed themselves or quit after hearing all those voices, and
- 48:31Speaker 1: that makes her pretty fucking cool actually, and even cooler
- 48:34Speaker 1: that like it was the same day that she was
- 48:36Speaker 1: ready to talk about it. I guess it's probably just
- 48:39Speaker 1: because she is so empathetic to this already that like,
- 48:44Speaker 1: as upsetting as those voices were, they probably weren't shocking.
- 48:48Speaker 1: Like she didn't learn something, she didn't learn that their
- 48:50Speaker 1: last moments were terrible and that kind of thing. She
- 48:54Speaker 1: just was, you know, confronted with an uncomfortable truth that
- 48:58Speaker 1: she already knew about. But I will say that if
- 49:02Speaker 1: I were her, I might not be able to listen anymore,
- 49:05Speaker 1: because as much as I enjoy real fictional people getting hurt,
- 49:11Speaker 1: I'm sorry, I think I probably do. I do not
- 49:14Speaker 1: like real actual people getting hurt at all. And I
- 49:17Speaker 1: don't know if I could hear the last gasps of
- 49:20Speaker 1: life of my comrades or you know, the people on
- 49:24Speaker 1: the battlefield over and over again, I don't know that
- 49:28Speaker 1: I would be able to stay sane. So kudos to
- 49:31Speaker 1: Lena for at least at this point, looking like she's
- 49:34Speaker 1: going to stick with it despite how traumatic this is.
- 49:38Speaker 1: And I'm really interested to see what is the full
- 49:42Speaker 1: incident that ended up with Shin dyeing and might have
- 49:47Speaker 1: had to do with his brother based on the short
- 49:51Speaker 1: little bursts of memory that we're getting here that are terrifying,
- 49:58Speaker 1: by the way, and done so oh fucking well, like
- 50:02Speaker 1: I didn't realize until I was actually reading this that
- 50:05Speaker 1: the scenes where Lena is in her room freaking out
- 50:09Speaker 1: about what she heard on the powerade and where Shin
- 50:12Speaker 1: is in the bathroom taking off his bandana like parallel
- 50:15Speaker 1: each other, where you have person lays hands on the
- 50:18Speaker 1: other person and then a pause and then a super
- 50:21Speaker 1: loud scream at them, but it was done so well,
- 50:26Speaker 1: like so well, guys, So really kudos to the director
- 50:32Speaker 1: and everybody who worked on this for really really bringing
- 50:37Speaker 1: this to life. Because against from a light novel, so
- 50:40Speaker 1: all the visuals are kind of new, you know, so
- 50:44Speaker 1: super fucking cool. Really really liked this episode, and I
- 50:48Speaker 1: hope that you thought it was okay too. I hope
- 50:51Speaker 1: that you don't think this is a weird direction, because
- 50:53Speaker 1: it is a weird direction, but I hope you think
- 50:55Speaker 1: it's weird in a good way. I think that's it.
- 50:59Speaker 1: I thought of something when we were talking, or when
- 51:02Speaker 1: I was talking at you, and then I just totally
- 51:05Speaker 1: forgot what it was. And I spent a bunch of minutes,
- 51:07Speaker 1: like with this pause trying to remember it, and I
- 51:10Speaker 1: can't remember it. So I'm just gonna stop here and
- 51:12Speaker 1: maybe i'll tell you it next week or I'll forget again.
- 51:15Speaker 1: But regardless, I hope you have a really good whatever.
- 51:19Speaker 1: And yeah, I'm sure I will see you next week
- 51:23Speaker 1: if you've come back and I'm still alive and you're
- 51:25Speaker 1: also still alive, So later weeks
