- 0:12Speaker 1: hip Hop dx's ten blog era mixtapes that deserve to
- 0:17Speaker 1: be released on streaming services, and hip hop Goldenage dot
- 0:23Speaker 1: Com does their best of twenty twenty four list. I'm
- 0:29Speaker 1: gonna go over it because you know I go over
- 0:32Speaker 1: everybody else and so why not, y'all?
- 0:34Speaker 2: So let's do it.
- 0:37Speaker 3: Welcome to jip Hop Now, Pop fat if you from
- 0:43Speaker 3: the future, you know what you do show as out
- 0:46Speaker 3: of so disrespect the leg. Let me hip hop can
- 0:52Speaker 3: say this today.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Let's get right into the business whatever, y'all.
- 0:57Speaker 1: I am your host Vegas and this is hip Hop
- 1:00Speaker 1: Now podcasting podcast specifically designed to keep you caught up
- 1:05Speaker 1: on all things hip hop, music and culture that happened
- 1:08Speaker 1: throughout the week. Big shout out to all the people
- 1:11Speaker 1: who have subscribed to this podcast and.
- 1:14Speaker 2: Those of you who are new. Welcome.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Hit that subscribe button, hit that like button in comment
- 1:20Speaker 1: because I do read the comments.
- 1:21Speaker 2: I do respond.
- 1:23Speaker 1: You know, it could be me clicking the thumbs up,
- 1:26Speaker 1: could be me, you know, loving your comment, could be
- 1:29Speaker 1: me responding and having something to say about what you said.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Just be wary of if I don't respond, then you
- 1:38Speaker 1: don't see your comment.
- 1:39Speaker 2: That just means I get your ass out. Okay, But we.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Are on the road to one thousand subscribers here on
- 1:46Speaker 1: the podcast, and I'm not gonna hold y'all. We've been
- 1:50Speaker 1: moving like light speed, okay, which is dope.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Right. We hit five hundred.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Now, where's somewhere around seven hundred down seven oh two
- 1:59Speaker 1: something like that, whatever it may be, something, well put
- 2:03Speaker 1: it this way. I don't know if it's seven o
- 2:05Speaker 1: two is very close to being eight hundred, it's more
- 2:09Speaker 1: that than what I just said. But the road is
- 2:13Speaker 1: to one thousand, So keep subscribing, keep sharing with people
- 2:18Speaker 1: who you know would enjoy this kind of content, because
- 2:21Speaker 1: when we get to one thousand, you know what I'm saying,
- 2:24Speaker 1: we'll be able to do some things, you know, not
- 2:27Speaker 1: just monetization, because you need a little bit more than
- 2:30Speaker 1: just one thousand subscribers to monetize, but it's trying to
- 2:35Speaker 1: make the channel active and a big shout out to
- 2:40Speaker 1: people who have been listening on audio, have no desire
- 2:43Speaker 1: to watch any videos, but I will say this, if
- 2:46Speaker 1: you find yourself on YouTube more than often drop through,
- 2:52Speaker 1: hit subscribe, and then go continue to listen to the
- 2:54Speaker 1: audio podcast because it's not going anywhere.
- 2:57Speaker 2: You know.
- 2:57Speaker 1: That's the bread and butter, that's the foundation of the show.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Speaking of content on the channel, recently, as some of
- 3:06Speaker 1: you who follow Channel No, I've been doing a lot
- 3:09Speaker 1: of you know, special episodes and just yesterday. If you're
- 3:14Speaker 1: from the future, you know it happened a long time ago.
- 3:16Speaker 1: But get your ass out of here. You already know
- 3:18Speaker 1: what I'm gonna say. I did a live stream talking
- 3:23Speaker 1: about the process for myself when it comes to best
- 3:28Speaker 1: of twenty twenty four list or best of the year
- 3:31Speaker 1: list in general. On here, I typically talk about my
- 3:36Speaker 1: process for reviewing an album, which is the three listens, right,
- 3:42Speaker 1: but I felt the need to kind of expand upon
- 3:46Speaker 1: that a little bit more to let people know that
- 3:49Speaker 1: as we start to gear up towards the end of
- 3:51Speaker 1: the year, and some people have already been releasing their
- 3:54Speaker 1: best of twenty twenty four one list that I'm going
- 3:57Speaker 1: to go over today from another website, hip Hopgoldenage dot com.
- 4:04Speaker 1: My process is different from a Rolling Stones, a hip
- 4:08Speaker 1: hop dx's a hip Hop Golden Age and So it's
- 4:12Speaker 1: important for me just as a hip hop fan to
- 4:15Speaker 1: check out other people lists see if I missed anything,
- 4:18Speaker 1: but also to check out their process. And in that video,
- 4:21Speaker 1: I basically break down what my process is and what
- 4:24Speaker 1: it's been like creating a list where now you have
- 4:30Speaker 1: so many hip hop albums, unless you're just gonna list
- 4:33Speaker 1: them all that you like, you have to break it
- 4:37Speaker 1: down to a system that's digestible and a resource for
- 4:41Speaker 1: hip hop.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Heage who want to know, Yo, what was dope this shit?
- 4:45Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, Like, I know that's how
- 4:48Speaker 1: I would be, you know if I wasn't creating the
- 4:50Speaker 1: content and listening to all this music myself. So that's
- 4:54Speaker 1: what that is. Big shout out to hip HOPDX dot com,
- 4:59Speaker 1: Hip Hop, Goldenage dot com, Double eSeL mad dot com. Yeah,
- 5:05Speaker 1: and a couple of places where I'm getting some of
- 5:07Speaker 1: these stories from. Let's get right into the business stuff.
- 5:12Speaker 1: So we're gonna start this right at the top because
- 5:15Speaker 1: I haven't done the weekly news show in maybe two
- 5:20Speaker 1: weeks now, and a lot has happened, but the Drake
- 5:24Speaker 1: and Kendrick thing carries on some of it worthwhile, right
- 5:29Speaker 1: Like when Drake releases music that we could check out
- 5:32Speaker 1: or j Cole or like Kendrick who just released gn
- 5:36Speaker 1: X check out the Channel four my review and breakdown
- 5:41Speaker 1: of that new album. But Drake recently submitted what is
- 5:47Speaker 1: not necessarily a lawsuit but almost like a probe into
- 5:53Speaker 1: what he claims is, you know some practices that led
- 5:57Speaker 1: to the success of Not Like Us, and those practices
- 6:02Speaker 1: being using bots and payola with radio.
- 6:08Speaker 2: For those who don't know, bots is just.
- 6:10Speaker 1: A way to bypass you know, a human pressing play
- 6:15Speaker 1: on that stream maybe once or twice for that same song,
- 6:19Speaker 1: but having a bot programmed to literally play that song.
- 6:25Speaker 2: Over and over and over and over.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Again, twenty four hours a week, whatever, just to increase
- 6:33Speaker 1: the popularity of the record so that it appears it's
- 6:37Speaker 1: this big popular thing. Or you know, I only listen
- 6:41Speaker 1: to country music, but somehow they're referring Not Like Us
- 6:46Speaker 1: on Spotify and with payola. That's just something that's just
- 6:51Speaker 1: been a part of music. You know, it's not necessarily
- 6:54Speaker 1: something you're supposed to do, but it's been a part
- 6:56Speaker 1: of commercial radio for a long time, where you know,
- 6:59Speaker 1: you pay DJs to give you more spins on the
- 7:03Speaker 1: radio to talk about your record to hype your record
- 7:06Speaker 1: up to go in the club, if that's still a
- 7:08Speaker 1: thing with DJs and you know, play your record and
- 7:13Speaker 1: hype it up at the club, like really boosting the
- 7:16Speaker 1: presence of that song. Now, just for that one action
- 7:22Speaker 1: by Drake, he is a hip hop Karen for the
- 7:24Speaker 1: next thing, but for that one action, just from my perspective,
- 7:29Speaker 1: it seems stupid because if someone asked me, forget not
- 7:35Speaker 1: like us, forget Drake and Kendrick. I'm a fan of both,
- 7:38Speaker 1: so just relax. But if someone had asked me, yo,
- 7:45Speaker 1: do you think record labels use bot to increase the
- 7:50Speaker 1: popularity of their artist's music, I would say, hell yeah,
- 7:55Speaker 1: I think they do that, And that would be for everyone,
- 8:00Speaker 1: including Drake, who is also a part of Universal Music
- 8:06Speaker 1: Group who he's suing, along with Kenchick Lamar being a
- 8:10Speaker 1: part of that scene. So if there's any truth to
- 8:14Speaker 1: what Drake is saying, I'm pretty sure there's evidence of
- 8:18Speaker 1: them doing the same thing for him. It's like Paola,
- 8:22Speaker 1: It's like you're not supposed to do it, but everybody
- 8:25Speaker 1: does it. It's like the NFL, You're not supposed to cheat,
- 8:28Speaker 1: but everybody cheats, you know, it's just about who gets
- 8:31Speaker 1: caught right and then the other.
- 8:35Speaker 2: Proposed probe, I'll call it pause.
- 8:39Speaker 1: I guess into the not Like Us song is defamation
- 8:47Speaker 1: of character, saying that Universal Music Group could have stopped
- 8:51Speaker 1: the record coming out about him that called him a pedophile.
- 8:58Speaker 1: Right now, remember both Kendrick and Drake are a part
- 9:02Speaker 1: of Universal Music Group. They both have different you know,
- 9:08Speaker 1: agreements with them as artists, as businessmen and all that
- 9:11Speaker 1: good stuff. This is where the hip hop Karen Park
- 9:16Speaker 1: comes into play. Never in the history of battle rap,
- 9:22Speaker 1: for which because I don't care if Drake has made
- 9:25Speaker 1: us two step, for which Drake has been a willing participant.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Waybe for this Drake is he loves battle rap. He
- 9:37Speaker 2: loves that energy.
- 9:38Speaker 1: Is the reason why he would take on a pusher
- 9:41Speaker 1: t a Joe butten Kendrick Lamar, you know what I'm.
- 9:45Speaker 2: Saying, like a meek mill like he's witted.
- 9:50Speaker 1: He's witted, and I gave him a lot of props,
- 9:54Speaker 1: not only for always taking on battles when with his
- 9:59Speaker 1: success he he does not have to right but specifically
- 10:06Speaker 1: this battle and in contrast to j Cole, where I
- 10:10Speaker 1: kind of feel like at least Drake fought right. He
- 10:15Speaker 1: didn't put out one diss record said now I'm out
- 10:18Speaker 1: of here, let me go make my heads.
- 10:19Speaker 2: I'm good. Let y'all broke at Stay where y'all at? All? Right?
- 10:25Speaker 1: No, he engaged back and forth to the end, even
- 10:30Speaker 1: with he had the last I won't say the last
- 10:33Speaker 1: laugh because the laugh was on him, but he had
- 10:37Speaker 1: the last say in this particular battle when he put
- 10:41Speaker 1: out the Heart Part six, which was his response to
- 10:44Speaker 1: not like us right. So, in a lot of ways,
- 10:50Speaker 1: I always looked at it like Drake is a hip
- 10:53Speaker 1: hop head because of that, because he wants to continue
- 10:57Speaker 1: the battle. But when I see this, it's like, oh, oh,
- 11:00Speaker 1: but you think you should win. You from that era
- 11:07Speaker 1: of everybody gets a trophy, you're gonna call the police.
- 11:14Speaker 2: So the whole thing is just weird. I don't think.
- 11:18Speaker 2: I don't take it that series.
- 11:20Speaker 1: Of course, UMG released a statement basically saying what what
- 11:25Speaker 1: are you even talking about?
- 11:27Speaker 2: That's my summary of it.
- 11:30Speaker 1: But I think there were some tactics behind it for Drake, right.
- 11:34Speaker 1: The tactic wasn't to actually sue because you got to
- 11:39Speaker 1: prove it after a while. And you talk about defamation
- 11:42Speaker 1: of character, well, you can be countersuited because if you're saying, oh,
- 11:46Speaker 1: in this exchange, he's referring to me as a pedophile
- 11:49Speaker 1: and it's hurting my brand. Well, Kendrick could turn around
- 11:53Speaker 1: and say, well, he started calling me a wife beater.
- 11:59Speaker 1: He start of saying my wife be outside in the streets,
- 12:03Speaker 1: and that you know, my friend is actually the father
- 12:07Speaker 1: of my son with my wife. Like, that's defamation across
- 12:11Speaker 1: the board. Like, so that's what I mean. I can't
- 12:15Speaker 1: take it that series. But in the hip hop world,
- 12:20Speaker 1: Drake's hip hop pass has been officially revoked.
- 12:23Speaker 2: I don't care how much you like him. I don't
- 12:25Speaker 2: care how much you.
- 12:27Speaker 1: Prefer the moist raps that he writes, and sometimes they
- 12:32Speaker 1: have other people who write for him, not of all
- 12:34Speaker 1: of which I disliked, let me be clear, But the
- 12:38Speaker 1: moist error is over. Its back to creativity and thinking.
- 12:44Speaker 1: And if Kendrick's bars don't do it for you, that
- 12:47Speaker 1: is fine. We got so many other dope people out
- 12:51Speaker 1: here that y'all never talk about because y'all don't really
- 12:54Speaker 1: care about the bars. Y'all know about thirty eight Special
- 12:57Speaker 1: and Bennie and Conway and Ransom and all these dudes
- 13:01Speaker 1: who give you all the boom back head nods. Y'all
- 13:05Speaker 1: just want to be a part of this conversation. And
- 13:08Speaker 1: when it comes to drink in that side, I'm sorry,
- 13:11Speaker 1: your hip hop pass is revoked. Never in the history
- 13:14Speaker 1: of hip hop battles and back and forth and this
- 13:17Speaker 1: record has anyone publicly I'll give drinking out publicly done
- 13:26Speaker 1: something like this just hasn't happened. So those are my
- 13:31Speaker 1: thoughts on it. It'd been a while since I was
- 13:34Speaker 1: here to even talk about it, but nevertheless, you know,
- 13:40Speaker 1: it is when it okay, it is what it is.
- 13:44Speaker 1: So hip Hop DX recently did a story called ten
- 13:51Speaker 1: blog ever mixtapes that deserve to be released on streaming services.
- 13:57Speaker 1: You can find this on hip hop Com in the
- 14:01Speaker 1: news section. And I think a lot of this has
- 14:05Speaker 1: to do all this topic. It's coming from the fact
- 14:09Speaker 1: that J Cole has been releasing all of his mixtapes
- 14:13Speaker 1: on streaming services, which occurred during the blog era. I
- 14:16Speaker 1: put out what it's not called a tweet, but the
- 14:20Speaker 1: name is skeet and I feel funny saying that, but
- 14:23Speaker 1: a post on Blue Sky about you know, like when
- 14:29Speaker 1: these J Cole mixtapes like to come up and warm
- 14:32Speaker 1: up and Friday night lights his streaming services, and so
- 14:35Speaker 1: many people rejoice to finally have them when I'm like,
- 14:38Speaker 1: I've had them digitally in my iTunes library for decades.
- 14:45Speaker 2: What y'all doing now?
- 14:47Speaker 1: Maybe you know, maybe you was younger and you just
- 14:50Speaker 1: had all these joints on CD, and now that's just
- 14:53Speaker 1: not what you do or what I do.
- 14:55Speaker 2: So I get it.
- 14:55Speaker 1: I digitied my stuff back then a long time, so
- 15:00Speaker 1: I had it.
- 15:01Speaker 2: But also, speaking of blog era, where were you with
- 15:04Speaker 2: the PIFs dot com? You can download them joints.
- 15:07Speaker 1: I don't understand rest in peace that pith What a time,
- 15:13Speaker 1: but the blog era, what a time to be alive.
- 15:17Speaker 1: Are a lot of people on podcasting, hip hop podcasting
- 15:20Speaker 1: and YouTube who were not active. They wasn't outside their content.
- 15:26Speaker 1: Their shows do not date back to the blog era.
- 15:30Speaker 1: Some of us are the veterans. For me in particular, sure,
- 15:34Speaker 1: I didn't do a video version of my podcast. My
- 15:36Speaker 1: podcast has been around since then. I had a actual
- 15:39Speaker 1: blog that I would write until y'all stop reading and
- 15:44Speaker 1: not just reading me. We all of us writers have
- 15:47Speaker 1: two dope boys to think headline and video. That's all
- 15:51Speaker 1: that's all, give me the album you know, headline and
- 15:54Speaker 1: what album?
- 15:54Speaker 2: Okay, can I play it? Cool?
- 15:57Speaker 1: So the blog err was an interesting time. But what
- 16:01Speaker 1: I like about this list that I'm going to skim
- 16:03Speaker 1: through really quick is just the fact that that era
- 16:09Speaker 1: of mixtapes was special. Like mixtapes existed before the blog
- 16:15Speaker 1: era and the blog era, let me just say is
- 16:19Speaker 1: this is from hip hop d X especial in influential
- 16:22Speaker 1: period of hip hop from the mid two thousands to
- 16:25Speaker 1: the early twenty tens. The difference between the mixtapes before
- 16:31Speaker 1: that they were DJ driven and they were literally mix
- 16:36Speaker 1: tapes cassette with not just one artist but several artists,
- 16:43Speaker 1: and it was actual mixing, you know, wigga wiggers with
- 16:46Speaker 1: the turntables. But this blog era of mixtapes was more
- 16:54Speaker 1: so like almost like albums that weren't official. They were mixtapes.
- 17:01Speaker 1: So you may get original songs and original beats on one.
- 17:05Speaker 2: Mixtape another mixtape, it.
- 17:07Speaker 1: Might be original songs, original beats, classic records from that artist,
- 17:14Speaker 1: a freestyle you know, over somebody else's beat.
- 17:18Speaker 2: But what drew most people was the original content, right
- 17:23Speaker 2: because now you were getting your artists to do a
- 17:27Speaker 2: mixtape that you.
- 17:30Speaker 1: Could literally look at it like that, But that's an
- 17:32Speaker 1: album that those are beats I never heard of, over
- 17:36Speaker 1: roalms I never heard of, but it's just on this
- 17:39Speaker 1: platform and it just was a dope time. And there's
- 17:42Speaker 1: a lot of artists who built their names off of that, right,
- 17:47Speaker 1: Like J Cole was big on a mixtape scene before then,
- 17:52Speaker 1: but everybody has classic mixtapes. Drake got some, right, Kendrick
- 17:58Speaker 1: overly dedicated, was is Fabulous went on a nice run,
- 18:03Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying with the summer shootouts and
- 18:06Speaker 1: the other one, what was the black tape? I don't know,
- 18:09Speaker 1: I can't remember. I'm losing my mind. Y'all know which
- 18:11Speaker 1: one I'm talking about, because everybody loves them. But for Fabulous,
- 18:15Speaker 1: it was like people who liked his bars, but his
- 18:18Speaker 1: albums always gave you more radio friendly tracks, you know.
- 18:22Speaker 1: These mixtapes were the soul tape series. That's what I
- 18:26Speaker 1: mean to say. For Fabulous, these mixtapes were like their
- 18:31Speaker 1: way of getting the version of fabulous they like, you
- 18:35Speaker 1: know what I'm saying.
- 18:36Speaker 2: And for J Cole, for me in the beginning, it
- 18:39Speaker 2: was that.
- 18:40Speaker 1: So let's just get to this list real quick before
- 18:43Speaker 1: I go on too long with this, and hold let
- 18:47Speaker 1: me make sure this is actually their story. Now they're
- 18:52Speaker 1: just telling the story of mixtapes during the blog Era site.
- 18:57Speaker 1: So one his we're gonna go through all ten real
- 19:02Speaker 1: quick because we got a big list on hip hop
- 19:05Speaker 1: Golden Age. Next, so Frank Ocean's Nostalgia Ultra that was
- 19:10Speaker 1: in twenty eleven. Very dope, but that's more of a singing.
- 19:16Speaker 1: But that mixtape was crazy. Ain't go front Tyler to
- 19:20Speaker 1: the creator, bastard. I didn't really like Tyler back then
- 19:23Speaker 1: because he was more shock rapping. Not that I don't
- 19:27Speaker 1: like shock rap, but I just was. I guess I
- 19:31Speaker 1: was up a certain age where I was like, I
- 19:32Speaker 1: don't want to hear that. That's for kids. Earl Sweatshirt, Earl.
- 19:38Speaker 1: I like Earl Sweatshirt more back then. Do I do
- 19:41Speaker 1: now than I do now?
- 19:45Speaker 2: Well?
- 19:45Speaker 1: Hold up, I didn't give you on the dates. Tyler
- 19:47Speaker 1: the Creator was O nine, Earl was twenty ten. Lil
- 19:52Speaker 1: Wayne the Drought three in two thousand and seven. This
- 19:55Speaker 1: was Lil Wayne like he was killing it with the albums,
- 19:59Speaker 1: he was kill it with the mixtapes. This is probably
- 20:03Speaker 1: not my favorite out of what he's released, but it
- 20:06Speaker 1: still was a dope mixtape. Rick Ross Rich Forever. This
- 20:10Speaker 1: is when I started liking This is twenty twelve. I
- 20:14Speaker 1: started liking Rick Ross a little bit more, and it's like,
- 20:17Speaker 1: y'all kind of like what he does. Big Sean finally
- 20:20Speaker 1: Famous Volume three twenty ten called Big. I've never been
- 20:26Speaker 1: a Big Sean fan, So maybe I'll check this out
- 20:29Speaker 1: and then discover what it is that people like about him.
- 20:34Speaker 1: I think he could rap. I just I don't know.
- 20:36Speaker 1: I don't think I like his voice. Wilele and ninth
- 20:39Speaker 1: wonder back to the feature twenty oh nine, two thousand
- 20:43Speaker 1: and nine. This was dope. This is the wilde I missed,
- 20:47Speaker 1: to be honest. Dom Kennedy The Yellow Album twenty twelve. Yo,
- 20:55Speaker 1: I'm a big West Coast West Coast sound right, not
- 21:00Speaker 1: West Coast rappers that sound like they're from New York.
- 21:03Speaker 1: I like them too, talk about the game, but I
- 21:06Speaker 1: also love West Coast sound right, that laid back sound.
- 21:12Speaker 1: Rappers that's laid back where it's not about bars, it's
- 21:15Speaker 1: just about saying cool stuff. And Don Kennedy the Yellow
- 21:20Speaker 1: Tape was that. If you like that, check this out.
- 21:22Speaker 1: Don Kennedy got a whole series of albums that are
- 21:27Speaker 1: pretty dope, especially early on Action Bronson Blue Chips twenty twelve.
- 21:32Speaker 1: I did not touch this because even though later I
- 21:36Speaker 1: did like some of what Action Bronson was doing, around
- 21:40Speaker 1: this time Blue Chips, I was like, Yo, who is
- 21:43Speaker 1: this dude that sounds like ghost Face? How is this
- 21:47Speaker 1: not a technical five? That's just what it was. Vic
- 21:53Speaker 1: mensa Internet tape. I think that's what that's called twenty thirteen.
- 21:58Speaker 1: Actually never heard of that, or maybe I did a
- 22:01Speaker 1: while back, but those are the ones they have listed.
- 22:06Speaker 1: Do you remember some blog era mixtapes that were dope
- 22:09Speaker 1: that are your favorites? I know me Big crit is
- 22:14Speaker 1: a big one if that's considered the same time.
- 22:18Speaker 2: Wis Khalif was cushion, Orange Juice was dope.
- 22:22Speaker 1: Currency has a number of dope mixtapes, Asad Rocky Chance
- 22:26Speaker 1: to Rappers.
- 22:27Speaker 2: So there's a few.
- 22:29Speaker 1: From that blog era that honestly, I feel like I
- 22:32Speaker 1: need to just collect these joints because that's like a
- 22:35Speaker 1: classic time and maybe I'll just do an episode where
- 22:39Speaker 1: we just go over that, like straight up mixtape blog
- 22:44Speaker 1: era mixtapes, classics and stuff like that. And lastly, so
- 22:52Speaker 1: as y'all know we are at the point where we
- 22:56Speaker 1: are approaching.
- 22:59Speaker 2: Very quick.
- 23:01Speaker 1: The end of twenty twenty four. A lot of projects
- 23:06Speaker 1: that have been released EPs, albums, mixtapes.
- 23:11Speaker 2: I won't tell you I've.
- 23:12Speaker 1: Heard them all, but I've heard a lot, and I've
- 23:13Speaker 1: heard the important ones for the most part. And I
- 23:20Speaker 1: created a system for myself where it's fifteen you know
- 23:24Speaker 1: joints that I recommend as the best of the year,
- 23:28Speaker 1: with five of them being my top five. And now
- 23:34Speaker 1: is the time where everybody's releasing this their lists, and
- 23:37Speaker 1: my list will be out in the next two weeks.
- 23:43Speaker 2: I think December twenty.
- 23:46Speaker 1: Is the date I'm going to release it, so you
- 23:49Speaker 1: have some time and Snoop and Drake got some time
- 23:51Speaker 1: to get in my list. If it's dope like that,
- 23:54Speaker 1: we'll see also Nasen premier if they ever drop. But
- 24:01Speaker 1: in finalizing my own personal twenty twenty four lists, I
- 24:11Speaker 1: do frequently look at other people's lists, mainly sometimes to
- 24:16Speaker 1: find like albums that I'm like, oh that came out,
- 24:21Speaker 1: Oh I didn't hear that, or this particular album is
- 24:25Speaker 1: showing up on a number of different lists. Let me
- 24:30Speaker 1: listen to it. If I haven't already, so it's kind
- 24:33Speaker 1: of that thing. But also it's just interesting to see
- 24:36Speaker 1: what people liked this year. So hip Hopgoldenage dot Com
- 24:40Speaker 1: shout out to them did a their annual that's the
- 24:44Speaker 1: twenty twenty four and they don't hold back when it
- 24:49Speaker 1: comes to the number and we're not gonna go over
- 24:52Speaker 1: all of them. We're gonna go over those that appear
- 24:54Speaker 1: at the end of the list, meaning the bottom that's
- 24:58Speaker 1: what I mean, and that I assume or.
- 25:02Speaker 2: The most popular or the best of the best.
- 25:05Speaker 1: I don't know, but we're just gonna go through some
- 25:07Speaker 1: of them, if not, if it's not too many. But also,
- 25:11Speaker 1: like the honorable mentions is crazy, Like the list is crazy,
- 25:15Speaker 1: and it's part of the reason why I file my
- 25:17Speaker 1: list down because if that if I post almost everything
- 25:21Speaker 1: as a part of my best of the year, it
- 25:25Speaker 1: just wouldn't be that special. Because you know, somebody got win,
- 25:29Speaker 1: just like we told Drake Yo, somebody got a win fan.
- 25:32Speaker 1: Somebody got to be the best of the best, and
- 25:35Speaker 1: it's something to shoot for next year. So what I'd
- 25:40Speaker 1: further do, Let's go through hip Hop Golden Ages lists
- 25:44Speaker 1: and the first one I see they have his is
- 25:46Speaker 1: the Death of Slim Shady KUDEI gra I'm not mad
- 25:51Speaker 1: at this pick at all because as an Eminem fan,
- 25:55Speaker 1: I like the album. I feel like it should be
- 25:59Speaker 1: his life album. It should be your last album, because
- 26:05Speaker 1: for what the album represented conceptually and the way it
- 26:10Speaker 1: was executed, it should.
- 26:12Speaker 2: Be like that's it, y'all.
- 26:15Speaker 1: You want to hear some m I got plenty of
- 26:17Speaker 1: albums out there, hot, whack, all of that.
- 26:20Speaker 2: Go listen to those.
- 26:22Speaker 1: So next up they had Benny the Butcher in thirty
- 26:26Speaker 1: eight Special, Stabbed and shot too.
- 26:30Speaker 2: I don't.
- 26:31Speaker 1: I'm not mad at this at all. You want bars
- 26:34Speaker 1: and boom back there you go. Do you want to
- 26:35Speaker 1: get shot at? Go listen to that. They want to
- 26:38Speaker 1: get shot and stabbed. Listen, you won't get shot and stabbed,
- 26:41Speaker 1: but you know what I mean? Like you want that
- 26:43Speaker 1: kind of rap, hardcore, rat streets, nothing better, Enoch waiting
- 26:51Speaker 1: for something to happen.
- 26:53Speaker 2: Now, I had no idea what this is in pardon me?
- 26:59Speaker 1: I should be sure share my screen for those online,
- 27:03Speaker 1: because why not? Why not just share your screen? Okay,
- 27:13Speaker 1: maybe I can't share my screen. Okay, yes we can.
- 27:16Speaker 1: Here we go, boom. There you have it with sharing screens.
- 27:21Speaker 1: How about that? But this is the album. You know,
- 27:24Speaker 1: it got the snakes and alligator fighting and I don't know.
- 27:29Speaker 1: Let's grab a little bit of information. It's called Waiting
- 27:31Speaker 1: for Something to Happen with these snakes and alligators. Waiting
- 27:36Speaker 1: for Something to Happen is a solo LP by Enoch,
- 27:39Speaker 1: the Florida based producer and long standing member.
- 27:42Speaker 2: Of Sign I think that's how you pronounced that. Going
- 27:45Speaker 2: from a mix.
- 27:46Speaker 1: Of emotions including grief, confidence, fear, and ambition, this project
- 27:50Speaker 1: reflects the complexities of modern life. Enoch and listed a
- 27:55Speaker 1: great lineup of hip hop icons and underground splitters, including Artifacts,
- 28:02Speaker 1: sat X, Kool Keith, Psycho, lest Rock, This Monster, Elzi,
- 28:07Speaker 1: and Guilty Simpson.
- 28:10Speaker 2: I might need to check this out. I had no idea.
- 28:13Speaker 1: Leave your comments in the comments section below if you
- 28:16Speaker 1: know of Enoch all right, next up, they have copyright
- 28:23Speaker 1: the Last Supper. I do remember this. This is more
- 28:26Speaker 1: underground for y'all. Logic is listed here with Ultra eighty five.
- 28:32Speaker 1: Y'all know how I feel about Logic. Like the dude,
- 28:36Speaker 1: he just his whole style is chump. I'll elaborate if
- 28:42Speaker 1: you want me to, but not right now. Vic Minster
- 28:46Speaker 1: in August Banan. I think that's how you pronounce his name,
- 28:49Speaker 1: psychological cheat cheat five. They got the five mics on
- 28:54Speaker 1: the cover. I didn't hear this, I said, Vic Menster,
- 28:58Speaker 1: Vic Spencer.
- 29:01Speaker 2: I don't know. I might check this out.
- 29:03Speaker 1: I'm not the biggest fan of Vic Spencer, so that
- 29:06Speaker 1: was my apprehension, like one of those things where I'm
- 29:11Speaker 1: almost guaranteed not to like it because I don't necessarily
- 29:14Speaker 1: like the artists, or I might dig it. But we're
- 29:18Speaker 1: in the deliberation of Best of twenty twenty four, so
- 29:23Speaker 1: I can't be wasting no time in telling you real
- 29:27Speaker 1: bad man and Luca Temple needs water, village needs man.
- 29:31Speaker 2: They going under the underground? What is this? It's a
- 29:35Speaker 2: psychologue us no like.
- 29:40Speaker 1: Oh, philosophical exploration into the essence of community, spirituality and transformation.
- 29:49Speaker 1: I know I didn't say what I was trying to pronounce.
- 29:53Speaker 1: I just was reading ahead instead of paying attention to
- 29:58Speaker 1: what I was reading. That's all. It's a radio trick.
- 30:01Speaker 1: You know, you're saying words that you're looking at, but
- 30:05Speaker 1: you're also reading wants to come, so you don't mess
- 30:09Speaker 1: up radio host Kitty.
- 30:12Speaker 2: What else we got here? Man?
- 30:13Speaker 1: We are under the underground for sure, I need a
- 30:17Speaker 1: damn dialect coach. Ever Ever Living Sound and slim Line
- 30:22Speaker 1: Mother Echo Chamber.
- 30:24Speaker 2: What the hell is this?
- 30:27Speaker 1: Si Marshal Law and Skit Slam also known as Black
- 30:33Speaker 1: Oh Bet, y'all, This might be Fire as Black Belt
- 30:37Speaker 1: Poems formed, the duo of Ever Living Sound Echo Chamber
- 30:43Speaker 1: is a collaborative LP with UK producer slim Line Mother,
- 30:47Speaker 1: drawing inspiration from the sounds of nineties legends like Pete Rock,
- 30:51Speaker 1: Q Tip and Large Professor and my shared just went away.
- 30:57Speaker 1: I don't know why. Let's let's try to share screens
- 31:01Speaker 1: and keep sharing them, don't you know. Don't do me
- 31:04Speaker 1: like that? Okay, keep sharing. Don't do me like that
- 31:07Speaker 1: unless I stopped it by accident. Professor Slime Mother's beats
- 31:13Speaker 1: set a dope backdrop. Ever Living Sounds, bars and flows
- 31:17Speaker 1: are in sync with the instrumentals, culminating in an exceptional
- 31:22Speaker 1: album that feels like a nostalgic nod to nineteen nineties
- 31:25Speaker 1: hip hop, sure to resonate with fans of the era.
- 31:30Speaker 1: I'm not gonna front this album cover is fire and
- 31:33Speaker 1: from what y'all described hip Hopfoldiage dot Com. I'm gonna
- 31:38Speaker 1: listen to this joint. I know I was laughing, but
- 31:42Speaker 1: the joke might be on me because my hip hop
- 31:45Speaker 1: and nerdism is kicking in just looking at it. Bodie
- 31:50Speaker 1: James and Nicholas Craven Penalty of Leadership. I'm not mad
- 31:56Speaker 1: at this because this is hands down the only Bodie
- 31:59Speaker 1: James album I think I've liked.
- 32:02Speaker 2: I like this joint.
- 32:03Speaker 1: It was it was I I'm gonna tell you now,
- 32:05Speaker 1: I don't have it in my best of the year.
- 32:06Speaker 2: But that's not because it wasn't good.
- 32:09Speaker 1: Uh schooly D schooly D, or cause that Nixers or
- 32:17Speaker 1: oh wait, that doesn't say Nixers crazy. That's why Okay
- 32:24Speaker 1: schoolly D has a new album that's crazy. Uh, Young
- 32:29Speaker 1: Morpheus and Alexander Spit waking up and choosing violence Young Morpheus. Wow, man,
- 32:37Speaker 1: they you talk about underground if you if you have
- 32:41Speaker 1: any interest in underground and under the underground rappers, go
- 32:47Speaker 1: to hip Hopgoldenage dot com. They are putting me on.
- 32:51Speaker 1: I can't listen to all of this, but yeah, like
- 32:54Speaker 1: this everybody. They just making up names at this point.
- 32:57Speaker 1: Hold up Brother Ali and Unjuil Love and Service I
- 33:01Speaker 1: think this was released recently, No in April. Okay, brother
- 33:05Speaker 1: a Lee usually puts out some pretty dope work, so
- 33:09Speaker 1: that's probably alight. Now, really an expert, the blip do
- 33:15Speaker 1: this list is crazy? Okay, we're gonna have to We're
- 33:19Speaker 1: gonna have to be those people who just look for
- 33:23Speaker 1: what everybody else knows. Okay, Crime Apple and Big Ghosts, Wazooka.
- 33:30Speaker 1: What else we have here? Mute and Academy keep Holly Alive.
- 33:37Speaker 1: I don't know, man, they kind of put me on
- 33:39Speaker 1: the things. I don't know if all this stuff is
- 33:41Speaker 1: actually good, but it made their list, so DJ Mugs
- 33:46Speaker 1: and ras Frisco the Eternal. Now if I said that wrong,
- 33:50Speaker 1: trust me. I don't know who that guy is. I
- 33:52Speaker 1: know who DJ Muggs is. Uh Oh, kill a priest?
- 33:57Speaker 1: I know I can't pronounce this. Okay, Praxis rebis Theme
- 34:03Speaker 1: High Ploma audio Listeners. You're gonna have to forgive me now.
- 34:08Speaker 1: I'm gonna just tell you I like this. I'm gonna
- 34:10Speaker 1: be up front when it comes to kill a Priest.
- 34:16Speaker 1: It's a hip hop guilty pleasure for me. I may
- 34:19Speaker 1: not know what he's talking about, not one word, but
- 34:26Speaker 1: I like some of it only if the production is
- 34:31Speaker 1: straight up boom back that mixes with all that mesaphysical
- 34:36Speaker 1: rap and stuff. So I'll probably check this out just
- 34:40Speaker 1: for my personal reasons, because I have no reason to
- 34:43Speaker 1: believe it's gonna push anything off my top list at
- 34:46Speaker 1: this point. A couple other guys, what's this Eddie Kane
- 34:51Speaker 1: and Big Ghosts Last Exit to Brooklyn.
- 34:55Speaker 2: I remember hearing about that jam Hemes being the Hinge?
- 35:01Speaker 2: Is this Themes?
- 35:02Speaker 1: I think you know this isn't the Griselda Cat, but
- 35:04Speaker 1: I have heard of this guy, which is cool. This
- 35:09Speaker 1: is an album that honestly I forgot about, but it
- 35:13Speaker 1: was pretty dope. Tyler Quality and Jay Rose the roles,
- 35:17Speaker 1: the confidence of knowing social media posts aside. If you
- 35:23Speaker 1: like Tip Tyler Quality, you're like this album. He also
- 35:27Speaker 1: put out an album with Madly this year called Liberation.
- 35:30Speaker 1: I think that was also dope. Tyler was two for
- 35:33Speaker 1: two this year, but not one made my list. I'm sorry,
- 35:38Speaker 1: Schoolboy Q Blue Lips. I was kind of disappointed in
- 35:41Speaker 1: this album, So just for spoiler's sake, this won't be
- 35:45Speaker 1: in my top five.
- 35:47Speaker 2: I don't feel it was whack.
- 35:49Speaker 1: It just didn't scratch the itch that I thought was
- 35:52Speaker 1: gonna happen when he dropped because Schoolboy Q doesn't have
- 35:57Speaker 1: an album I dislike. But this just didn't meet my expectations.
- 36:01Speaker 1: To be honest.
- 36:03Speaker 2: Daniel's son in Future Wave bush Man Bodega.
- 36:06Speaker 1: Album covers Fire Ain't Go Front, Wow, this made you
- 36:12Speaker 1: listen mc Light one of one. I'm gonna tell you
- 36:14Speaker 1: like this. I don't do no charity. I love emc Light.
- 36:19Speaker 1: She's from BK. She's a legend in the hip hop game,
- 36:22Speaker 1: not just as a female rapper, but as a rapper period.
- 36:27Speaker 2: And this album wasn't that good to me. It just wasn't.
- 36:29Speaker 2: It wasn't. I gave you the listen. I moved on.
- 36:32Speaker 1: This is a dope one gang Green heads up Win
- 36:36Speaker 1: tells you lose alchemists on the beats and some rhymes
- 36:41Speaker 1: as well as oh No, check this joint out. I
- 36:44Speaker 1: don't think they have a whack album in their catalog. Ah,
- 36:49Speaker 1: here we go Rhapsody. Please don't cry. Ah, you've heard
- 36:58Speaker 1: my thoughts about that. Let's just keep it moving. One
- 37:01Speaker 1: thing I think I'm gonna do since this list keeps
- 37:04Speaker 1: going crazy. This is Vince Staples album that dropped to
- 37:07Speaker 1: share a lot of people like it dark times. Maybe
- 37:11Speaker 1: I started backwards, so let's just skim to the top
- 37:15Speaker 1: and see what they have on the other end, and
- 37:17Speaker 1: then we then we out right this album. I just
- 37:21Speaker 1: listened to Elucid's Revelator. It is not for me. I'm
- 37:25Speaker 1: gonna just tell you all right now, it's not for me.
- 37:27Speaker 1: I'm not with that. Billy Woods. I kind of like Elucid.
- 37:32Speaker 1: It's it's too much. I'm sorry, it's I know it's dense,
- 37:35Speaker 1: I know, I know it makes sense on some level.
- 37:38Speaker 1: I know it's not the typical rhyme styles and beats
- 37:42Speaker 1: and stuff like that, but I think it's too off
- 37:47Speaker 1: base for my taste. Bar see how easy that was,
- 37:51Speaker 1: h Mac Homie, rich ass Haitian. This is adupe one, y'all.
- 37:56Speaker 1: If you haven't heard it, check it out. Obviously. Calm
- 38:00Speaker 1: and Pete rock the Auditorium Volume one. Let's do maybe
- 38:05Speaker 1: two more Jpeg Mafia I Laid down My Life for you.
- 38:09Speaker 2: I listened to that one. It was cool, it was cool.
- 38:12Speaker 2: It's not going to be in my best of the year.
- 38:15Speaker 2: I think he's had better projects than that one. And lastly,
- 38:20Speaker 2: Ka the Thief next to Jesus rest in peace Kyle
- 38:24Speaker 2: who passed away recently. Let's see what they say CAUs
- 38:29Speaker 2: The Thief next to Jesus is a profound exploration of faith, morality,
- 38:34Speaker 2: and survival, displaying the Brooklyn mcs unmatched ability to turn
- 38:40Speaker 2: life's complexities into poetic verses. Man that first sentence for
- 38:45Speaker 2: this description was bars they get who wrote that it
- 38:49Speaker 2: was nice. This ninth solo effort sees Cad doubling down
- 38:53Speaker 2: on his minimalist but potent style, drawing listeners into his
- 38:57Speaker 2: introspective world where every word carries weight and every beat
- 39:01Speaker 2: serves a purpose. The album continues the journey he's taken
- 39:05Speaker 2: listeners on throughout his career, offering new insights while remaining
- 39:10Speaker 2: rooted in the stark realism that has defined his work.
- 39:15Speaker 2: I listen to this album, that's a great summary of
- 39:18Speaker 2: this particular album, But for me personally, it's not going
- 39:23Speaker 2: to be in my best of the year, which is
- 39:25Speaker 2: only fifteen. Doesn't mean that it wouldn't land somewhere along
- 39:29Speaker 2: down the line. But we're not doing long down the line.
- 39:31Speaker 2: We're only doing fifteen. You know what I'm saying. But
- 39:36Speaker 2: there you have it.
- 39:36Speaker 1: That's hip Hopgoldenage Dot com. You can visit they site.
- 39:40Speaker 1: You can check out all the albums they listed. Like
- 39:44Speaker 1: I said, they put me on this two joints, the
- 39:47Speaker 1: Killer Priest joint and that other one you know with
- 39:50Speaker 1: the robots DJ and on the cover that I was
- 39:52Speaker 1: laughing at. But the description was potent for my taste.
- 39:59Speaker 1: And then the album I'm like, oh, the nerd and
- 40:01Speaker 1: the hip hop is So I think it's a good resource.
- 40:05Speaker 1: So shout out to hip Hop Goldenage dot com. Obviously
- 40:08Speaker 1: this is subjective, this is their site. You know, me
- 40:12Speaker 1: not liking certain albums they posted does not matter. It's
- 40:15Speaker 1: what I like and what I don't like versus what
- 40:18Speaker 1: they like and don't like. But nevertheless, dope stuff, dope
- 40:24Speaker 1: to see. Hold up, why is my windows just still sharing? Okay,
- 40:31Speaker 1: I don't know what's going on, but there you have it.
