- 0:00Speaker 1: The Hodaki Big Show.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Thanks to Craveworthy Street Food.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Freshly made with Reburger. Don't fight it. Time to go
- 0:11Speaker 1: up a size. This is the biggest.
- 0:12Speaker 3: The biggest. The biggest.
- 0:13Speaker 1: This is the biggest. Our biggest show.
- 0:15Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show.
- 0:16Speaker 4: With Jason Hoyt, Mike Minogue and Keezy.
- 0:20Speaker 3: Ah, g'day you massive backbones. And then there was one.
- 0:24Speaker 3: You are listening to the Hauraki Big Show with producer Pugs.
- 0:27Speaker 3: And as always, even if every single one of the
- 0:30Speaker 3: talent is gone, it's still brought to you by the
- 0:33Speaker 3: good people making the crave-worthy street food fresh over at Reburger.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Mmm, yummy. Yummy.
- 0:40Speaker 3: How you going, you mad bastard? I'm talking to you listening.
- 0:44Speaker 3: That's right, it's Pugs here, all by his lonesome in
- 0:46Speaker 3: the studio.
- 0:47Speaker 5: And you know what?
- 0:47Speaker 3: It's a Friday and it's a beautiful day. So, of course,
- 0:50Speaker 3: there's absolutely nobody left in the office either.
- 0:53Speaker 5: But it's a pleasure to be here with you.
- 0:54Speaker 3: I'm going to be spinning you some of the best
- 0:56Speaker 3: bits from the big show over the last few years.
- 0:58Speaker 3: I've been diving into the archives all week while I
- 1:01Speaker 3: was on with Mogi. But he's gone, so I'm just
- 1:04Speaker 3: loading it up now. We're going to have a whole
- 1:06Speaker 3: bunch of them. Plus, I'll get some TV chat in there.
- 1:08Speaker 3: Watched a new show last night. And also, you know what?
- 1:13Speaker 3: We've been doing this segment with Mogi and I called
- 1:15Speaker 3: Songs from Bands That I Like, which is where we
- 1:18Speaker 3: sneak in a little tune that we think maybe should
- 1:20Speaker 3: be spun on Hodaki, and it's just me here, so
- 1:23Speaker 3: why the hell not?
- 1:23Speaker 5: Why don't we just do it? But let's get into
- 1:25Speaker 5: the tunes first.
- 1:28Speaker 3: Ooh, as I always say, you can never, ever have
- 1:32Speaker 3: too much push.
- 1:34Speaker 5: This is Come Down on the Hodaki Big Show.
- 1:35Speaker 6: Come Down.
- 1:37Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 1:41Speaker 5: It's head like a hole on the Hauraki Big Show.
- 1:43Speaker 5: You're here with Pugs.
- 1:44Speaker 3: All the fellas are back on Monday. So that's Jason Hoyt,
- 1:49Speaker 3: just in case it's been so long you forgot their names.
- 1:51Speaker 3: Jason Hoyt or Hoity Jizz. You've got old Keezy. He's
- 1:54Speaker 3: been over in Japan.
- 1:55Speaker 5: Chris Key.
- 1:57Speaker 3: And of course, Mogi, Mike Minogue, who's been here with
- 1:59Speaker 3: me for the last couple of weeks. They will all
- 2:01Speaker 3: be back in unison on Monday. So make sure you're
- 2:04Speaker 3: around for that at 4pm. Now let's crack into some
- 2:07Speaker 3: best bits so you can.
- 2:07Speaker 5: Hear from them.
- 2:08Speaker 3: This is from, I think, maybe October 24 or September 2024,
- 2:13Speaker 3: so a couple of years ago. Usually it's Jason Hoyt
- 2:16Speaker 3: that attracts the strange encounters, so much so that we
- 2:19Speaker 3: have our own segment for it. But this strange scenario
- 2:23Speaker 3: was an encounter that Mike Minogue had. in the middle
- 2:26Speaker 3: of the night.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Hey, fellas, I had an interesting incident occur last night.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Would you like to hear about it? Sure, man.
- 2:32Speaker 4: Sounds great, Mogi.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Is it erotic? It needs spooky music, though. There it is.
- 2:41Speaker 1: It's our spooky music that we use. Yeah, it's great stuff.
- 2:45Speaker 1: I was fast asleep, which is rare for me, and
- 2:48Speaker 1: it must have been around about 2 o'clock in the
- 2:49Speaker 1: morning when I was awoken by my wife whisper-screaming, Somebody's
- 2:56Speaker 1: out there.
- 2:57Speaker 6: Right?
- 2:58Speaker 1: Right. That's terrifying.
- 2:59Speaker 6: So did she just say that in your ear or
- 3:02Speaker 6: did she shake you and then say that?
- 3:04Speaker 1: I'm not sure. I woke up with a start. Yes.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Eyes are bulging. Yes. Straight away, you're ready to go,
- 3:09Speaker 1: aren't you? Well, you're ready for something.
- 3:11Speaker 4: You're poised for action.
- 3:12Speaker 1: You're poised for some kind of action that you hope
- 3:13Speaker 1: you don't have to take. You hope it's one of
- 3:16Speaker 1: the world's smallest men that's broken in. Sure. Or even
- 3:19Speaker 1: a child.
- 3:21Speaker 4: Or a cat.
- 3:22Speaker 1: A cat would be good.
- 3:23Speaker 4: Or a duck. A duck.
- 3:25Speaker 1: If the duck was there, how good would that be?
- 3:27Speaker 4: That would be a bit spooky actually at night time.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Has the duck broken in to rob you? Well, this
- 3:31Speaker 1: is what we don't know. You can never know the
- 3:33Speaker 1: motivations of a duck, Keezy. That's so true.
- 3:36Speaker 6: A duck's motivation is primarily there's shit everywhere.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Anyway, I said, what? That was my first reaction. Nice.
- 3:46Speaker 1: But it whispered a little bit as well.
- 3:47Speaker 4: I said, what?
- 3:48Speaker 1: She goes, there's somebody out there. Damn it. Because I
- 3:52Speaker 1: was hoping I'd misheard her. Yeah. Because I was sleeping,
- 3:55Speaker 1: you know. Well, you were, yeah. And I said, where?
- 3:59Speaker 1: I can't. Because I stopped for a minute to listen. Yeah, nice.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Not a minute, but a while. I was going to say,
- 4:04Speaker 1: it's ages. It's too long a minute. I said, I
- 4:06Speaker 1: can't hear anything. She goes, no, there's somebody there. So
- 4:10Speaker 1: I kept on listening. Couldn't hear anything. And I said,
- 4:14Speaker 1: are you asleep or awake? She said, she said, I'm awake.
- 4:22Speaker 1: And I said, well, I can't hear anything. And she goes,
- 4:25Speaker 1: is someone there? I said, where? And she pointed straight
- 4:28Speaker 1: in front of her. Oh, my God, that's terrifying. But
- 4:30Speaker 1: at this point, she was now lying on her back,
- 4:33Speaker 1: so she was pointing at the ceiling. Right, okay. And
- 4:36Speaker 1: I said, what are you seeing? And she said, it's
- 4:38Speaker 1: a plastic thing. And I said, you're asleep, aren't you?
- 4:43Speaker 1: And she said, yes.
- 4:45Speaker 3: Yes.
- 4:49Speaker 1: How good. So she knew she was asleep. And I
- 4:52Speaker 1: didn't get back to sleep for a couple of hours.
- 4:53Speaker 1: I'll tell you what, I was there buzzing. The adrenaline
- 4:57Speaker 1: was pumping through me, man. Yeah. So funny.
- 5:01Speaker 6: Can I ask, because my wife does a very similar thing,
- 5:04Speaker 6: but she sits bolt upright.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Right.
- 5:06Speaker 6: And then starts yabbering. That's very off-putting. It is.
- 5:10Speaker 7: That was like one time, similar thing, actually. I... I
- 5:14Speaker 7: was woken up in the middle of the night by
- 5:16Speaker 7: my wife because there was someone outside rustling around in
- 5:18Speaker 7: the leaves.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Russell? Was it Russell? It might have been Russell.
- 5:21Speaker 4: Was it a duck?
- 5:22Speaker 7: And she was like, well, I'll get to that, Jase.
- 5:26Speaker 7: She was like, there's someone out there. I can hear
- 5:27Speaker 7: them walking around. Listen to that. And then I could
- 5:29Speaker 7: hear them as well. She said, you have to go
- 5:31Speaker 7: out and have a look. I'm like, what am I
- 5:32Speaker 7: going to do?
- 5:33Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. I turned the light on in our room
- 5:36Speaker 1: and was just like, who's there?
- 5:38Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 5:40Speaker 7: No response. More rustling in the leaves. I was like,
- 5:42Speaker 7: so they've heard us. Now they're trying to run away.
- 5:44Speaker 1: Slowly. Very slowly. Through a big pile of leaves. If
- 5:49Speaker 1: this was Kim.com, I won't be surprised. I'll get to that, Mogi. Anyway,
- 5:57Speaker 1: five minutes later, it's still happening. Go outside. Just a hedgehog.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Just playing around the leaves. With a shotgun.
- 6:03Speaker 6: With a shotgun.
- 6:04Speaker 1: With a shotgun.
- 6:06Speaker 7: And while I'm looking at the hedgehog, a duck runs
- 6:09Speaker 7: inside and goes, Kim, quick, get in now, get in now.
- 6:11Speaker 7: Kim.com runs in.
- 6:13Speaker 4: Wow.
- 6:13Speaker 1: Shat all over the house. And then Kim, oh, sorry,
- 6:15Speaker 1: the duck. Shat everywhere. It was crazy.
- 6:19Speaker 6: It's interesting, actually, because I had one scenario very similar
- 6:23Speaker 6: to that, actually, what you guys had. And my wife
- 6:26Speaker 6: woke up and she was like, there's someone out there.
- 6:30Speaker 4: Can you hear that? And I went, no. And she went. No, listen, listen,
- 6:36Speaker 4: there's someone out there. Can you hear that?
- 6:38Speaker 6: And I went, actually, yes, I can. Want to go
- 6:42Speaker 6: and check it out, see what's happening? And so she
- 6:45Speaker 6: went out.
- 6:47Speaker 1: She went out?
- 6:47Speaker 4: She went out, yeah, yeah.
- 6:49Speaker 1: You didn't go out?
- 6:50Speaker 4: No, man, she's way harder than me.
- 6:53Speaker 6: And there was some reprobate who'd just got out of prison.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Oh, wow.
- 6:59Speaker 4: Six foot five. Wow. Built like a brick shithouse.
- 7:02Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 7:03Speaker 1: She decked him.
- 7:07Speaker 4: And then my duck shat on him.
- 7:09Speaker 3: If I had a dollar for every time a duck
- 7:12Speaker 3: carrying a shotgun walked into my house and shat everywhere
- 7:15Speaker 3: letting Kim Dotcom in, I wouldn't be producing The Big Show,
- 7:19Speaker 3: that's for sure. Hey, you can listen to all these
- 7:21Speaker 3: best bits that I'm finding from the archives.
- 7:23Speaker 5: By looking through the archives your bloody self. Don't be
- 7:26Speaker 5: so lazy.
- 7:26Speaker 3: Search Hideaki Big Show wherever you get your podcasts from.
- 7:30Speaker 3: You can listen to every single show the fattles have
- 7:31Speaker 3: ever done over the years.
- 7:33Speaker 5: These are black keys. It's the Hauraki Big Show.
- 7:35Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 7:40Speaker 2: in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 7:44Speaker 3: The black keys on the Hauraki Big Show with Pugs, Jace, Mike,
- 7:47Speaker 3: Keezy all back Monday at 4pm. But there's nobody here
- 7:51Speaker 3: to stop me so we might as well have one more.
- 7:53Speaker 5: Crack at this.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Some of the bands that I like.
- 8:00Speaker 3: So this is a segment that Mogi and I came
- 8:02Speaker 3: up with while we were filling in for the whole
- 8:04Speaker 3: show where we each took a turn picking a song
- 8:07Speaker 3: from a band that we like to play on Hauraki
- 8:09Speaker 3: that isn't usually in the playlist but we thought might
- 8:11Speaker 3: be a good fit and we also wanted to get
- 8:14Speaker 3: your feedback on 3483 whenever we did that and even
- 8:16Speaker 3: though Mogi's not here it is technically my turn so
- 8:19Speaker 3: I'm going to have one more go. The other day
- 8:21Speaker 3: I played School Fair which is a band from Dunedin
- 8:26Speaker 3: Mike played a song by Pearl Jam this week, Dissident.
- 8:28Speaker 5: What else did we have? I think last week I
- 8:31Speaker 5: did Fontaine's. He did one from the Black Keys yesterday,
- 8:34Speaker 5: Hard Row.
- 8:34Speaker 3: Now, I am putting up a recap tonight of all
- 8:39Speaker 3: the tunes from the week. So if you've heard one
- 8:40Speaker 3: that you liked but you couldn't quite remember what it was,
- 8:43Speaker 3: head to Hauraki Big Show on Insta there. There'll be
- 8:45Speaker 3: a post-up after the show tonight. But let's crack into
- 8:48Speaker 3: my final tune. I wanted to play these guys the
- 8:51Speaker 3: other day, but I got kind of taken over by
- 8:53Speaker 3: the other tune that I ended up playing. So this
- 8:55Speaker 3: is a band from Christchurch that I actually saw play
- 8:58Speaker 3: in Wellington. There's a great bar there, great live venue
- 9:00Speaker 3: called Moon. It's sort of a hole in the wall
- 9:02Speaker 3: out in Newtown there.
- 9:04Speaker 5: Where I lived for a little while.
- 9:06Speaker 3: And this is a band called Marsha from Christchurch.
- 9:09Speaker 5: Great tune. Let me know what you think.
- 9:11Speaker 3: 3483.
- 9:12Speaker 4: Here it is.
- 9:12Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show with Jason Hoyt, Mike Minogue and Keezy.
- 9:17Speaker 5: Highly suspect on the Hauraki Big Show. You're here with Pugs.
- 9:21Speaker 3: Now, Keezy, Jase and Mogi all back on Monday together here,
- 9:25Speaker 3: right here from 4 p.m. But in the meantime, it's
- 9:29Speaker 3: just me filling in. And I wondered if you could
- 9:31Speaker 3: do me a favor. This is the last time I'll
- 9:32Speaker 3: get to play the stings that I made for the
- 9:34Speaker 3: show that Mike and I did over the last two weeks.
- 9:37Speaker 3: So you voted on the name, which was Woke Boy
- 9:39Speaker 3: and the Truth, which is a name that we came
- 9:41Speaker 3: up with on a whim when we first did this
- 9:44Speaker 3: one time last year. That ended up being the winning
- 9:47Speaker 3: name for our show. And I made a bunch of
- 9:48Speaker 3: stings for it that I'll never get to play again.
- 9:50Speaker 3: So do you mind if I just, you know, just
- 9:52Speaker 3: have a hoon on this?
- 9:59Speaker 5: Like, that shouldn't just be wasted you know what I
- 10:01Speaker 5: mean you got to give it a whack now just a.
- 10:03Speaker 3: Reminder for you actually that cuticle that roar of the
- 10:07Speaker 3: encore for giga little could go off at any time
- 10:09Speaker 3: that's your chance to win 250 bucks cash cash cash
- 10:13Speaker 3: to put towards a gig a festy a concert of
- 10:16Speaker 3: your choice and So listen out for that roar of
- 10:18Speaker 3: the encore. If you hear it, give us a buzz
- 10:20Speaker 3: on 0800 Hauraki, and that could be yours.
- 10:24Speaker 5: Thanks to our mates at Super Liquor.
- 10:25Speaker 3: Cheers to gigs. Cheers to Super Liquor. More best bits
- 10:28Speaker 3: from the Hauraki Big Show after the break.
- 10:31Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 10:34Speaker 2: in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 10:38Speaker 5: That's the offspring on the Hauraki Big Show.
- 10:40Speaker 3: You're here with Pugs filling in for Jase, Mike and
- 10:42Speaker 3: Keezy who are all back together on Monday. Jase has
- 10:46Speaker 3: been in Aussie, Keezy's been in Japan and we'll get
- 10:48Speaker 3: to hear about all of their exciting travels. I'm sure
- 10:51Speaker 3: Keezy's going to take up the name Keezy-san. And make
- 10:53Speaker 3: the whole thing his entire personality.
- 10:55Speaker 5: But that's by the by.
- 10:56Speaker 3: We're playing some best bits from over the years. I've
- 10:58Speaker 3: been diving deep in the archives. Not because I'm lacking content.
- 11:02Speaker 3: Not because I'm phoning it in for a Friday oven.
- 11:05Speaker 5: It's just me. Not only in the studio. But also
- 11:07Speaker 5: at work. But because I care about you. And I
- 11:10Speaker 5: want you to hear their voices. So these fellas. Known
- 11:13Speaker 5: for being a bit silly. A bit goofy.
- 11:16Speaker 3: They are not emotionally void. They can get sensitive. This
- 11:21Speaker 3: is them having some chat.
- 11:22Speaker 5: About funerals.
- 11:24Speaker 4: Stoked it's Friday, Mike, but I'm a bit filthy.
- 11:26Speaker 6: My wife invited some friends over for dinner tonight, and
- 11:30Speaker 6: I really can't be arsed.
- 11:31Speaker 1: They her friends or your friends?
- 11:33Speaker 6: Well, probably, like, if we broke up, if we broke up,
- 11:38Speaker 6: they'd probably side with her.
- 11:39Speaker 1: Sure, yeah, it's a great measure. Another thing is, if
- 11:42Speaker 1: they died, would you bother going to the funeral? Or
- 11:45Speaker 1: would just your missus represent at the funeral?
- 11:48Speaker 4: I think probably just my wife would represent.
- 11:51Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's good.
- 11:54Speaker 6: Well, it depends if I'm busy that day or not.
- 11:56Speaker 6: I've got other stuff on. I mean, I might pop in.
- 11:58Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 11:59Speaker 4: Depends where it.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Is, if they've got some good speakers. I always like
- 12:03Speaker 1: to try and get my hands on the old run sheet,
- 12:08Speaker 1: see who's going to be doing the chats, you know,
- 12:09Speaker 1: and talking about the person. Like if there's a few
- 12:11Speaker 1: good yarns going on, I might turn up. I often
- 12:14Speaker 1: go to, you know, pop along to just the funerals.
- 12:16Speaker 1: get some ideas for our content on the show here.
- 12:19Speaker 4: Yeah, so do I, funnily enough, so do I.
- 12:22Speaker 6: I used to actually, just on that actually, weirdly enough,
- 12:25Speaker 6: I used to do quite a few gigs at funerals. Right.
- 12:28Speaker 6: You know, because obviously people are pretty, you know, down
- 12:30Speaker 6: in the dumps and they need a bit of cheering up,
- 12:32Speaker 6: so I'd do a bit of a 20, 30 minute
- 12:34Speaker 6: comedy set in the middle, in between the sort of eulogies.
- 12:38Speaker 4: And the actual burial.
- 12:40Speaker 1: No, I used to do the same, so what I'd
- 12:41Speaker 1: do is I'd go along and if I had new material,
- 12:44Speaker 1: I'd pop down there, if they opened the floor up,
- 12:46Speaker 1: I just jump up. And, of course, nobody knows if
- 12:48Speaker 1: you know them or not.
- 12:48Speaker 4: Exactly.
- 12:49Speaker 1: You just make up some stuff and just sort of
- 12:51Speaker 1: run a few bits I've been working on and stuff
- 12:54Speaker 1: and try and get a few lulls going. And, yeah, no,
- 12:57Speaker 1: it's bloody handy. Is it hard to make people laugh
- 13:00Speaker 1: at a funeral, though? Because everyone's usually pretty sad.
- 13:01Speaker 4: Well, that's the thing.
- 13:01Speaker 1: That's when you know it's working. If you can get
- 13:03Speaker 1: them chuckling at a funeral, you know you've done a
- 13:05Speaker 1: bloody good job. There's some good material there. Yeah, yeah, totally, mate.
- 13:09Speaker 6: Actually, just on that, I was reading something just– just
- 13:13Speaker 6: recently about how actually people are often quite horny at funerals.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 13:19Speaker 4: Because, you know, the old.
- 13:19Speaker 6: Emotions are bubbling and often that can turn into horniness.
- 13:24Speaker 1: Oh, really? Yeah, yeah. Where were you reading that?
- 13:25Speaker 3: Oh.
- 13:27Speaker 6: Yeah, I think it might have been like a stuff
- 13:30Speaker 6: article or.
- 13:30Speaker 4: Something like that.
- 13:31Speaker 1: Sounds more like a porno article if you ask me.
- 13:33Speaker 6: Oh, yeah, it might have been a Playboy article or
- 13:35Speaker 6: something like that. But apparently a lot of relationships start
- 13:39Speaker 6: at funerals.
- 13:40Speaker 3: Right.
- 13:41Speaker 6: You know, where two horny people end up getting together,
- 13:45Speaker 6: sharing in their grief, I guess, and having sex to
- 13:48Speaker 6: make themselves feel better.
- 13:50Speaker 1: Right.
- 13:50Speaker 7: So when you go to a funeral, it's mostly about
- 13:53Speaker 7: stand up, having a laugh, and maybe meeting someone.
- 13:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:56Speaker 4: Oh, and the booze afterwards.
- 13:58Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, the piss-ups are always good. Yeah, yeah, they are. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah.
- 14:01Speaker 4: But seriously, I can't be arsed.
- 14:03Speaker 1: No.
- 14:03Speaker 4: With the friends coming over tonight.
- 14:04Speaker 1: No, not tonight.
- 14:05Speaker 6: And I can't really cancel because I know they listen
- 14:07Speaker 6: to the show and, you know, I can't pull a sickie,
- 14:10Speaker 6: can I?
- 14:11Speaker 1: Won't they know? If they listen to the show, they'll
- 14:13Speaker 1: now know that you don't want them to come over.
- 14:15Speaker 4: Oh, they'll probably think I'll... I think I'm talking about
- 14:17Speaker 4: some other friends.
- 14:18Speaker 1: Well, they probably think you're joking.
- 14:19Speaker 6: Yeah, well, yeah, that it was a joke. I'm deadly serious.
- 14:23Speaker 6: I really can't be arsed having them come over, to
- 14:26Speaker 6: be honest, Keezy.
- 14:26Speaker 1: What are their names?
- 14:27Speaker 6: Pardon?
- 14:28Speaker 1: What are their names?
- 14:29Speaker 4: Mac and Sue's.
- 14:32Speaker 3: Ever the emotionally intelligent bunch, aren't they? Very, very sensitive,
- 14:35Speaker 3: empathetic people. Now, you can hear every show the fellas
- 14:39Speaker 3: have ever done just by searching Hodaki Big.
- 14:41Speaker 5: Show, wherever you get your potties from.
- 14:43Speaker 3: And in the meantime, they'll be back on Monday at
- 14:46Speaker 3: 4pm right here on Hauraki.
- 14:48Speaker 5: So don't miss that, for goodness sake.
- 14:50Speaker 3: Plus, I'll be putting out another couple of little social
- 14:53Speaker 3: bits for you on the Hauraki Big Show Instagram page,
- 14:55Speaker 3: just to tide you over until they get here.
- 14:57Speaker 5: So get around that, get a follow on.
- 14:59Speaker 3: We'll go to the Hauraki Facebook page. More best bits
- 15:01Speaker 3: to come, but in the meantime, here's some white stripes.
- 15:03Speaker 3: This is the hardest button to button on the Hauraki
- 15:06Speaker 3: Big Show with Pikes.
- 15:07Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 15:11Speaker 2: in weekdays at four on Radio Hauraki.
- 15:13Speaker 3: Guns, roses on the Hauraki Big Show with Pikes, filling
- 15:18Speaker 3: in for Jase, Mike and Keezy all back on Monday.
- 15:21Speaker 5: Let's have a brief TV chat.
- 15:25Speaker 6: What's on the telly with Mike Minogue.
- 15:35Speaker 5: So this is where we talk TV.
- 15:37Speaker 3: Obviously, there's no mogi, so I'm just going to tag
- 15:38Speaker 3: in for a second and talk about a TV show
- 15:40Speaker 3: that I.
- 15:40Speaker 5: Started last night. It's not East of Eden, which I've
- 15:44Speaker 5: been talking about for what feels like a million years.
- 15:46Speaker 3: It's actually a show that Jace talked about maybe a
- 15:50Speaker 3: month ago, a month or two ago, and it's called Furious.
- 15:55Speaker 5: It's on Disney Plus. It's a Hulu show. And you
- 15:58Speaker 5: might recognize it from the main character being Emmy Rossum.
- 16:01Speaker 3: She played, oh, what's her name? In Shameless, the main lady. Anyway,
- 16:08Speaker 3: the American Shameless, by the way.
- 16:10Speaker 5: So this is Furious. It's about an FBI agent who's.
- 16:12Speaker 3: On the hunt for a serial killer who's been done really,
- 16:16Speaker 3: really dirty, had some horrific crimes committed against her. And
- 16:19Speaker 3: so she's sort of on sort of like a trauma
- 16:22Speaker 3: response revenge path. I only watched one episode, but I'm
- 16:27Speaker 3: really enjoying it.
- 16:28Speaker 5: I would continue watching it.
- 16:30Speaker 3: It's sort of one of those ones where every detective
- 16:33Speaker 3: seems to have all of these troubles and that kind
- 16:35Speaker 3: of fuels their fire for solving cases and being on
- 16:39Speaker 3: the hunt for clues. They're a little bit rough around
- 16:42Speaker 3: the edges and they don't always do everything by the book.
- 16:44Speaker 3: It's a little bit cliched in that way, but the
- 16:46Speaker 3: performances are worth watching.
- 16:48Speaker 5: Particularly.
- 16:50Speaker 3: The serial killer. She was my highlight in this episode
- 16:54Speaker 3: that I watched. She was unbelievable. Just all her mannerisms
- 16:58Speaker 3: and her small little tics and things. And you can
- 17:00Speaker 3: tell that there's something that's broken in her mentally after
- 17:04Speaker 3: what she's had to deal with. And she performs that
- 17:08Speaker 3: absolutely astoundingly. Like, really, really good. A lot of themes
- 17:12Speaker 3: of violence and things and trauma responses and that.
- 17:15Speaker 5: So it's pretty heavy stuff.
- 17:17Speaker 3: Like, particularly violent and kind of hard to watch in
- 17:20Speaker 3: parts so keep that in mind uh that is furious
- 17:23Speaker 3: on disney plus i would give it from the one
- 17:26Speaker 3: episode i watched a good three and a half buzzies
- 17:30Speaker 3: out of a possible five so get around that if
- 17:32Speaker 3: you've watched it before please let me know what you
- 17:34Speaker 3: think uh on 3483 and if i should continue watching
- 17:38Speaker 3: in the meantime we'll spin you some killers on the
- 17:40Speaker 3: hodaki big show.
- 17:43Speaker 2: The Hodaki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 17:46Speaker 2: in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hodaki.
- 17:48Speaker 5: Welcome back, you massive backbones.
- 17:50Speaker 3: It is the Hodaki Big Show brought to you by
- 17:52Speaker 3: the good bastards that make handcrafted burgers, loaded fries and
- 17:56Speaker 3: gourmet eats that will change the game.
- 17:59Speaker 5: I'm talking about Re-Burger. We're going to need a bigger burger.
- 18:05Speaker 2: Yum, yum, yum, yum.
- 18:08Speaker 3: Now, if you've listened to the Big Show before, you
- 18:10Speaker 3: might be wondering where the hell's the throbber. We did
- 18:12Speaker 3: that yesterday, a Thursday Throbber, because it's just me, Pugs,
- 18:16Speaker 3: filling in for the fellas. They are all back together
- 18:18Speaker 3: on Monday, so you'll have a full big show back on.
- 18:21Speaker 5: Monday at 4pm.
- 18:22Speaker 3: And Mike Minogue was taking a long weekend because he
- 18:25Speaker 3: had his birthday on Tuesday.
- 18:26Speaker 5: He was in at work. Nobody should be at work
- 18:28Speaker 5: on their birthday. Hot take. nobody should be at work
- 18:31Speaker 5: on their birthday he was and so he.
- 18:33Speaker 3: Took today off to have a long weekend with his
- 18:35Speaker 3: uh lovely wife his lovely wife uh who just got
- 18:38Speaker 3: back uh from a trip so there you go no
- 18:41Speaker 3: throbber but uh if you want to listen back you
- 18:43Speaker 3: can uh go to the horaki big show podcast wherever
- 18:48Speaker 3: you get yours just search horaki big show and uh
- 18:50Speaker 3: listen to yesterday's full show on and you can have
- 18:52Speaker 3: the the throbber on there.
- 18:54Speaker 5: You know what? It's Friday, so we might as well
- 18:56Speaker 5: crack into some frowd-outs.
- 18:58Speaker 3: If you've got any frowd-outs, which is a shout-out on
- 19:00Speaker 3: a Friday, a frowd-out shy day.
- 19:02Speaker 1: Frowd-out!
- 19:03Speaker 3: Might as well fart those through on 3483. And in
- 19:06Speaker 3: the meantime, I'm going to spin you some more best
- 19:09Speaker 3: bits from the big show. Up next, there was some
- 19:11Speaker 3: breaking news that somebody had tried to smuggle, like, a
- 19:14Speaker 3: ridiculous amount, I think it was cocaine, into Aotearoa. And
- 19:18Speaker 3: so the fellas did a bit of an improv on
- 19:19Speaker 3: how maybe they would handle it.
- 19:22Speaker 5: There's some she hard. You're listening to the Hodaki Big Show.
- 19:25Speaker 2: The Hodaki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 19:29Speaker 2: in weekdays at four on Radio Hodaki.
- 19:31Speaker 3: Supergrass there on the Hodaki Big Show. You're here with Pugs,
- 19:34Speaker 3: all the fellas back on Monday at four. So I'm
- 19:36Speaker 3: playing you some best bits and not phoning it in
- 19:39Speaker 3: on a Friday afternoon at all. You know how hard
- 19:42Speaker 3: it is for me to go into the podcast and
- 19:45Speaker 3: find a random voice break and play it back?
- 19:47Speaker 5: It's actually very easy. You know why?
- 19:49Speaker 3: Because all of the big show is absolute gold uh
- 19:52Speaker 3: this is 2024 a big show improv where keezy was
- 19:56Speaker 3: trying to smuggle something over the border We were talking
- 19:58Speaker 3: about drug smuggling.
- 19:59Speaker 4: Well, Keezy was.
- 20:00Speaker 6: He was referring to an article where a New Zealander
- 20:03Speaker 6: got caught.
- 20:03Speaker 4: What was it, Keezy?
- 20:04Speaker 6: 20-odd kgs or something?
- 20:05Speaker 7: 20 kgs, 22 vacuum-sealed bags and a suitcase. Street value, $ 6.
- 20:10Speaker 4: 3 million. Not bad. Not bad.
- 20:11Speaker 1: Yeah, he was caught. Now he's facing life in prison
- 20:14Speaker 1: in Australia.
- 20:14Speaker 6: So how do we feel about maybe doing a scenario
- 20:17Speaker 6: there for our improv of a drug smuggling scenario, fellas?
- 20:21Speaker 7: I'd prefer that to a lot of these suggestions coming
- 20:23Speaker 7: through on 3483. Most of them are to do with
- 20:25Speaker 7: me and my wife or me and my nips. So
- 20:28Speaker 7: let's do that, eh, guys?
- 20:29Speaker 1: Quiet on set.
- 20:30Speaker 6: Sound speed.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Lights. Camera.
- 20:33Speaker 3: Action.
- 20:33Speaker 6: Now it's time for the Big Show Improv.
- 20:39Speaker 4: I mean, we could do the one with your wife
- 20:40Speaker 4: in the blindfold.
- 20:42Speaker 1: Oh, that's true.
- 20:43Speaker 4: That would have been excellent.
- 20:44Speaker 1: You just need to simmer down around that situation, all right?
- 20:47Speaker 1: And the person suggesting that.
- 20:49Speaker 7: Keezy's wife has overcooked his.
- 20:50Speaker 1: Eggs for his egg sandwich. Keezy is furious. Then she
- 20:53Speaker 1: calls Jace for relationship advice. That's just not.
- 20:55Speaker 4: That's a little too close to the bone, actually. No,
- 20:57Speaker 4: it's not.
- 20:57Speaker 1: It's the opposite.
- 20:58Speaker 4: Now, listen up.
- 20:59Speaker 6: Okay, so how about this is the scenario. Mogi, you're
- 21:02Speaker 6: a border security guard.
- 21:03Speaker 1: Sure.
- 21:03Speaker 4: You're the dude that stands.
- 21:05Speaker 6: You know how they have the magnetic sort of.
- 21:07Speaker 4: What do they call them where you have to walk through? Yeah. Yeah,
- 21:10Speaker 4: you're that guy.
- 21:11Speaker 1: Okay. Like metal detector thing.
- 21:12Speaker 4: Keezy, you're a wary traveller.
- 21:15Speaker 1: Actually, I think I'll be the guy that... It's detoured
- 21:19Speaker 1: your suitcase.
- 21:21Speaker 3: Yes.
- 21:21Speaker 1: Dethrone your suitcase. Yes.
- 21:23Speaker 6: Now, Keezy, you've come through the detector. You put all
- 21:26Speaker 6: your stuff on the trays here. You've gone through. You
- 21:29Speaker 6: managed to get through there, but you're also clutching your
- 21:32Speaker 6: stomach and in a fair amount of pain as you
- 21:36Speaker 6: approach Mogi there. Right.
- 21:38Speaker 1: Okay, sorry.
- 21:38Speaker 7: So, Mogi, my suitcase is going along the conveyor, and
- 21:41Speaker 7: it's then been lifted up and taken over to the
- 21:43Speaker 7: inspection site.
- 21:44Speaker 4: It's been diverted.
- 21:45Speaker 1: So you know how it gets diverted around. Okay. All right.
- 21:48Speaker 1: And I've got a sore stomach.
- 21:49Speaker 4: Yeah, you're getting really bad cramps in your stomach.
- 21:52Speaker 1: All right, fine.
- 21:53Speaker 4: And action.
- 21:56Speaker 1: Good afternoon, sir. Is this your bag? Yeah, it is, man.
- 21:59Speaker 1: How are you today, by the way? I'm just going
- 22:01Speaker 1: to go through it. Is that right? Do I have
- 22:02Speaker 1: your permission to go through the bags? No worries, man.
- 22:04Speaker 4: What was your name?
- 22:05Speaker 1: Okay, that's okay. What was your name? Sorry, man. Zip.
- 22:09Speaker 1: My name's Keezy. What was your name? Didn't quite catch that.
- 22:11Speaker 6: At this point, Keezy is bent over with a sudden
- 22:14Speaker 6: stabbing pain.
- 22:15Speaker 1: In his stomach. What was your name?
- 22:17Speaker 2: Sorry.
- 22:18Speaker 1: So I'm just going to take all the stuff out
- 22:20Speaker 1: of your bag, sir. You're okay with that? I'm just
- 22:22Speaker 1: going to search this? Yeah, it's fine, man. There's nothing
- 22:24Speaker 1: in there. I don't need a bag. Were you the
- 22:25Speaker 1: one that packed your bag? Yeah, that was me. Okay. Nothing. Yeah,
- 22:31Speaker 1: go for it, man. There's nothing embarrassing in there. Okay, then. Sweet.
- 22:32Speaker 1: We'll go through here. There you go. You've got the...
- 22:35Speaker 1: You've got a... Some kind of a sleeping mask? Oh,
- 22:39Speaker 1: it's my blindfold. Yeah, the missus insists on using it. Yeah,
- 22:43Speaker 1: long story, man. It's quite a lot of dillies in here.
- 22:50Speaker 1: Are they all yours? Yeah, well, it's a long story.
- 22:54Speaker 7: I work for this company called Mike and Jason's Dillies,
- 22:56Speaker 7: and they wanted me to bring some stuff.
- 22:58Speaker 1: Yeah, fair enough. Yeah, it's not illegal, though, is it?
- 23:01Speaker 1: All right, so, well, I've seen enough. I think we're
- 23:03Speaker 1: going to have to take you into the separate area
- 23:06Speaker 1: for a strip search. Based on what? Oh, my God,
- 23:09Speaker 1: my tummy. Just, I think, it's the sweat that you've
- 23:14Speaker 1: got on your brow and on your face, and you
- 23:18Speaker 1: seem to be in some kind of pain. Yeah, I
- 23:19Speaker 1: had a ramen. So you've got some kind of bowel
- 23:22Speaker 1: issues there. Yeah, I had a ramen from Ponsonby. Hang
- 23:25Speaker 1: on a minute, do you want... Are you on that
- 23:27Speaker 1: radio show? Are you Keezy? Ah, cat's out of the bag.
- 23:32Speaker 3: Yeah, man.
- 23:32Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know you. Oh, jeez, sorry, mate.
- 23:35Speaker 1: I didn't recognise you. I should have by your massive honker.
- 23:38Speaker 1: Hang about.
- 23:38Speaker 6: At this point, Keezy loses all control of his bowels.
- 23:47Speaker 1: Oh, what have you done?
- 23:48Speaker 5: Oh, sorry, man.
- 23:50Speaker 2: Oh.
- 23:50Speaker 5: I've just.
- 23:51Speaker 1: Classic Keezy midnight steamer in his pants, eh? And what
- 23:55Speaker 1: have you got in there? There's little packets of, what's that?
- 23:58Speaker 1: Little packets of what is that? Keezy?
- 24:00Speaker 6: Huh?
- 24:01Speaker 1: Keezy, you mad dog. Sorry, I've just cracked myself in
- 24:03Speaker 1: the middle of an airport. What's that stuff? Don't worry
- 24:04Speaker 1: about that. What's those little packs in there? Nah, don't
- 24:05Speaker 1: worry about that. That looks like cocaine, is it? Nah,
- 24:08Speaker 1: it's not. All right. Hey, mum's the word, all right?
- 24:11Speaker 6: Really?
- 24:11Speaker 1: You just pick those up and pick up that massive
- 24:13Speaker 1: pile of feces and be on your way, all right?
- 24:15Speaker 1: And scene. Thanks a lot.
- 24:19Speaker 5: We've all been there. Am I right?
- 24:23Speaker 3: Please?
- 24:24Speaker 5: Anybody?
- 24:25Speaker 3: You can listen back to all the Big Show's best
- 24:27Speaker 3: bits by searching Hauraki Big Show wherever you get your
- 24:29Speaker 3: podcasts from. I'll have another one before the hour's out.
- 24:32Speaker 3: In the meantime, let's keep the tunes going for your
- 24:35Speaker 3: Friday drive home.
- 24:36Speaker 5: This is the Phillies.
- 24:37Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show with Jason Hoyt, Mike Minogue and Casey.
- 24:41Speaker 5: The Hauraki Big Show. It's Pugs here, by the way.
- 24:44Speaker 5: That'd be Friday.
- 24:45Speaker 3: Arvo's going along very nicely indeed in that you're already
- 24:48Speaker 3: on the drive home, already on your way to the
- 24:50Speaker 3: pub or something like that. I am the last person
- 24:53Speaker 3: at the Hauraki office. It is dire out there, so
- 24:56Speaker 3: let me know what you've got planned tonight.
- 24:59Speaker 5: 3483.
- 25:00Speaker 3: I've got a sick partner at home, so I'll probably
- 25:02Speaker 3: get some takeaway.
- 25:03Speaker 5: But tomorrow, I'm.
- 25:05Speaker 3: Going to be responsible and have a couple of beers
- 25:08Speaker 3: and go to the football.
- 25:09Speaker 5: Is that okay? Is that all right with you? Now,
- 25:11Speaker 5: I'm spinning you some of the Big.
- 25:12Speaker 3: Show's best bits from years past, and one thing we
- 25:15Speaker 3: know about Horty J... He's a funny little fella.
- 25:18Speaker 5: You know what I mean? He's a little bit curious physically.
- 25:22Speaker 5: You know, he's got the.
- 25:24Speaker 3: I'm not going to talk too much smack about him
- 25:25Speaker 3: without him here to defend himself.
- 25:26Speaker 5: He's got a honker, you know, and he wears very
- 25:29Speaker 5: tight jeans and things like that.
- 25:30Speaker 3: One thing you probably don't know about Hoody J's curious
- 25:33Speaker 3: physicality is his chest back knee. Ooh.
- 25:36Speaker 8: As you guys might have heard, I've been sort of
- 25:39Speaker 8: hitting the gym. Well, I mean, like I said at
- 25:41Speaker 8: the start of the show there, Mogi, I can tell, mate.
- 25:43Speaker 4: It's pretty obvious, man.
- 25:44Speaker 1: You are just.
- 25:45Speaker 4: You are a Greek god at the moment.
- 25:47Speaker 1: We're moving into winter, but I feel like we're in less,
- 25:49Speaker 1: you know what I mean? It doesn't feel right. I
- 25:51Speaker 1: guess we could bring in heaps of heaters in here,
- 25:53Speaker 1: and then I could just sort of be, you know,
- 25:55Speaker 1: just singing and that. Yeah, yeah.
- 25:57Speaker 6: Just on that, before you get into your chat there,
- 26:00Speaker 6: are you getting any battening happening? Are you getting any
- 26:04Speaker 6: breakouts happening?
- 26:06Speaker 1: Nah, not yet. I am.
- 26:07Speaker 4: My chest.
- 26:09Speaker 1: Are you getting chest breakouts?
- 26:10Speaker 4: I'm getting chest, what's that?
- 26:11Speaker 1: It's probably, I think it's from all the cheese balls
- 26:13Speaker 1: you're eating.
- 26:14Speaker 4: Well, it could be.
- 26:14Speaker 1: Yeah, it's probably an allergy to all the, because when
- 26:17Speaker 1: you're in the car, because you're saying that when you're
- 26:19Speaker 1: in the car, when you're on your drive home with
- 26:22Speaker 1: your two family.
- 26:23Speaker 4: Packs of cheese balls. Sorry, can I just clarify when
- 26:25Speaker 4: I'm saying this? Is this off air or?
- 26:26Speaker 1: Off air, yeah, yeah, yeah. Sorry, it was off air
- 26:29Speaker 1: and you're saying you get home and you've always got
- 26:31Speaker 1: about three quarters of a bag out of your two
- 26:33Speaker 1: bags there, so you lie your seat back in the driveway. Um,
- 26:38Speaker 1: In the car there, and then you're just scoffing away
- 26:40Speaker 1: on your cheese balls and all the crumbs fall down
- 26:43Speaker 1: your shirt. He opens his shirt up when he's doing it. Well,
- 26:46Speaker 1: it's actually his moves separate the buttons. Oh, yeah. So
- 26:50Speaker 1: they drop in there. I think you're probably having an
- 26:52Speaker 1: allergic reaction, man.
- 26:53Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 26:53Speaker 1: Because you're having, like, every single day you're piling that debate.
- 26:57Speaker 1: To trite us up. It's not good. Well, to be
- 27:00Speaker 1: honest with you.
- 27:01Speaker 8: And then you get your dog to lick it off
- 27:03Speaker 8: you or something. Yeah, well, I discovered a couple of... Well,
- 27:07Speaker 8: not a couple, about four or five cheese balls in
- 27:09Speaker 8: my mood cleavage. And so, yeah, I just go in
- 27:12Speaker 8: there and let the dog lick away.
- 27:14Speaker 1: You said that you had a couple stuck under a
- 27:16Speaker 1: couple of your old dear skin tags in your armpits.
- 27:20Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, that was.
- 27:21Speaker 6: That was weird. Down the pants too somehow. I don't
- 27:23Speaker 6: know how they got down there. But, you know, I'll.
- 27:25Speaker 4: Tell you one thing about dogs.
- 27:27Speaker 1: Big tongues. Oh, God, you wide tongue.
- 27:30Speaker 4: So you're not breaking out then? No, man.
- 27:32Speaker 1: Because I am.
- 27:33Speaker 6: I mean, I'm looking great, but I do have a
- 27:35Speaker 6: bit of a breakout scenario going on.
- 27:36Speaker 1: You're not on the roids, are you? Oh, I mean,
- 27:39Speaker 1: because a classic... Well, who isn't Keezy? That's my question
- 27:42Speaker 1: to you. Well, Jim Keezy.
- 27:43Speaker 4: Yeah, I know.
- 27:44Speaker 1: We're not talking about... But we're not talking about nerds.
- 27:46Speaker 1: We're talking about cool guys. Oh, yeah, you guys. And
- 27:48Speaker 1: so me and Jase are on it. Cool Keezy, who's
- 27:51Speaker 1: always out the window here, he's on them. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 27:53Speaker 1: Because he's ripped.
- 27:54Speaker 6: And you've got to remember the deal that I busted
- 27:57Speaker 6: the other day out in the car park.
- 27:58Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. I've got.
- 28:00Speaker 4: Heaps of free gear you've.
- 28:02Speaker 1: Got vials up the wazzers it's just.
- 28:04Speaker 7: Something to be conscious of is the classic symptoms are
- 28:07Speaker 7: a breakout either on your back or on your chest
- 28:09Speaker 7: and then a massive peptide puku they call.
- 28:12Speaker 1: It peptide gut yeah when you've got a bit of
- 28:14Speaker 1: a grumpy bastard as well especially if you're really irritable.
- 28:19Speaker 6: What about oh and the other thing man testicular stuff going.
- 28:24Speaker 1: Yeah shrinking bollocks yeah.
- 28:25Speaker 6: Bollocks well actually I'm quite relieved to hear that actually
- 28:29Speaker 6: Because I was looking at myself.
- 28:30Speaker 4: In the mirror the other day wondering what the hell
- 28:31Speaker 4: was going on.
- 28:33Speaker 1: Oh, right. Yeah, that'll be it.
- 28:35Speaker 4: I literally couldn't find them. Oh, yeah. You know what
- 28:38Speaker 4: I mean? Yeah, yeah.
- 28:40Speaker 1: They go down the side of the couch between the
- 28:42Speaker 1: pillows here.
- 28:42Speaker 3: Wow.
- 28:43Speaker 7: It's funny because you couldn't find them, but you can
- 28:45Speaker 7: find cheese balls. You can sniff them out no matter what.
- 28:48Speaker 1: Well, that's the other symptom is, you know... absolutely dying
- 28:53Speaker 1: for bloody cheese balls. You can't get enough cheese balls.
- 28:55Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 28:56Speaker 1: And the other one is a massive honker. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 29:02Speaker 4: So no chest acne then for you then?
- 29:04Speaker 1: Is that what you're saying? Oh, is that what you're asking? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 29:07Speaker 1: I'll have a geez. Yeah, well, do you want to
- 29:08Speaker 1: have a look? Have a look at this bastard.
- 29:10Speaker 4: Have a look at that.
- 29:12Speaker 1: Oh, jeez.
- 29:13Speaker 5: That's the Hodaki Big Show best bit from 2024.
- 29:15Speaker 3: If you want to hear more stuff like that, go
- 29:17Speaker 3: to the Hodaki Big Show podcast wherever you get yours.
- 29:21Speaker 3: And have a listen to that, all right? We have
- 29:22Speaker 3: another one before the hour's out. I'm just cramming them in.
- 29:24Speaker 3: I don't even care anymore.
- 29:25Speaker 5: It's Friday Arvo. Let's do it.
- 29:27Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show with Jason Hoyt, Mike Minogue, and Kesey.
- 29:33Speaker 5: Green day on the Hauraki Big Show. You're here with Pugs.
- 29:36Speaker 3: Now, we're going to take a quick break from the
- 29:37Speaker 3: best bits here so that I can spin you around.
- 29:40Speaker 5: Another yarn that we had on Wednesday.
- 29:41Speaker 3: So, Mogi and I were filling in on the show
- 29:44Speaker 3: and we were lucky enough to get to interview Troy
- 29:46Speaker 3: Van Leeuwen. He's the guitarist, multi-instrumentalist from Queens of the
- 29:50Speaker 3: Stone Age. And we got him on for a yarn,
- 29:53Speaker 3: but I didn't play the full interview on the show
- 29:56Speaker 3: because we didn't really have time.
- 29:58Speaker 5: It was a long chat. It was about 20 minutes long.
- 30:00Speaker 3: And you can listen to that full chat now by
- 30:02Speaker 3: searching Horaki Big Show wherever you get your potties from.
- 30:05Speaker 3: And you'll see down there on Wednesday, the big show
- 30:09Speaker 3: with Troy Van Leeuwen from Queens of the Stone Age
- 30:11Speaker 3: is a podcast for you to chew on there. But
- 30:15Speaker 3: this is one part in particular that I didn't play
- 30:17Speaker 3: out because it was such a good yarn. I wanted
- 30:20Speaker 3: to save it and push people to the whole interview.
- 30:23Speaker 3: But it's been a couple of days, so why not
- 30:24Speaker 3: just spin it now? This is Mike Minogue, who was
- 30:28Speaker 3: a driver for Queens of the Stone Age and Nine
- 30:31Speaker 3: Inch Nails at the same time while they were on tour.
- 30:33Speaker 3: And he witnessed something backstage that he had to ask
- 30:36Speaker 3: Troy about.
- 30:37Speaker 1: The gig finished, right, essentially. So it was after you
- 30:40Speaker 1: guys played, you came backstage and before the encore. And
- 30:44Speaker 1: you came backstage and I was a couple of metres
- 30:47Speaker 1: away from you guys, got into a circle, and there
- 30:50Speaker 1: was what I can only describe as a fairly heated
- 30:52Speaker 1: debate about how well you felt you had or had
- 30:56Speaker 1: not gone on stage. And then you went back out
- 31:01Speaker 1: on stage. A guitar went flying at one point. The
- 31:06Speaker 1: crowd absolutely loved it. But what that really did for
- 31:10Speaker 1: me is up until that point I was like– oh,
- 31:13Speaker 1: you know, sex, drugs, and rock and roll, isn't this
- 31:15Speaker 1: a fun life, blah, blah, blah. But just how hard
- 31:19Speaker 1: you guys work, there must be a real thirst to be,
- 31:23Speaker 1: for you guys to be considered the best in the world,
- 31:25Speaker 1: you guys must hold yourselves to a really high standard.
- 31:30Speaker 1: And what was clear to me was you weren't fucking around, man.
- 31:33Speaker 1: This was serious business. Yeah.
- 31:36Speaker 4: You know what?
- 31:37Speaker 9: I'm glad that you got to witness that because that's
- 31:41Speaker 9: what most people don't. See, you know, we do take
- 31:46Speaker 9: our the way we present ourselves very seriously.
- 31:50Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 31:50Speaker 9: And there is no room for, you know, any kind
- 31:55Speaker 9: of slack. It's a very tight ship that we try
- 32:00Speaker 9: to run drunkenly.
- 32:01Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 32:02Speaker 9: But there like I said, there's a good balance of
- 32:06Speaker 9: like we're fucking serious about And if we don't maintain
- 32:14Speaker 9: our sense of what's great, then it kind.
- 32:19Speaker 4: Of falls apart.
- 32:21Speaker 9: So, yeah, there's no room for slack.
- 32:25Speaker 4: It's a very– we take it seriously.
- 32:27Speaker 1: Yeah, well, there is that kind of idea that artists
- 32:31Speaker 1: are people that are sort of happy fucking around, but
- 32:34Speaker 1: art is really, really serious to the people that create it.
- 32:40Speaker 1: For us, it is. Yeah, for sure.
- 32:43Speaker 9: But I'm glad somebody got to see a guitar smash
- 32:47Speaker 9: because it doesn't usually happen.
- 32:49Speaker 1: No, I mean, it went sailing over John's head. I
- 32:53Speaker 1: don't know quite how much it cleared him by, but
- 32:56Speaker 1: the audience were loving it.
- 32:58Speaker 3: To be a fly on the wall, or rather to
- 33:00Speaker 3: be a young stallion mogi driving for Queens of the
- 33:03Speaker 3: Stone Age on their tour in Aotearoa a million years
- 33:05Speaker 3: ago and witnessing them have an argument on the stage.
- 33:08Speaker 3: You can listen to the full interview with myself, Mike Minogue,
- 33:11Speaker 3: and Troy Van Leeuwen of Queens of the Stone Age
- 33:13Speaker 3: now by searching Hauraki Big Show wherever you get your
- 33:16Speaker 3: podcasts from.
- 33:17Speaker 5: You'll see one there that says The Big Show with
- 33:18Speaker 5: Troy Van Leeuwen. from Queens of the Stone Age.
- 33:21Speaker 1: How hot.
- 33:22Speaker 3: Another best bit from the Big Show fellas before they
- 33:24Speaker 3: get back on Monday at 4pm.
- 33:27Speaker 5: Coming up pretty shortly. Here's Blue Monday.
- 33:29Speaker 4: You order.
- 33:30Speaker 2: The Hodaki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Keezy.
- 33:33Speaker 1: Tune in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hodaki.
- 33:36Speaker 4: Stereophonics.
- 33:37Speaker 3: On the Hodaki Big Show you've got Pugs here with
- 33:39Speaker 3: you and I'm just loading you up with best bits.
- 33:42Speaker 3: Now don't get me wrong, Monday's going to be a
- 33:44Speaker 3: beautiful show. Jace and Hoyt, Mike Minow, Chris Key all reuniting.
- 33:47Speaker 5: After two weeks apart. It's going to be so sweet.
- 33:50Speaker 3: But until then, I'm just cramming best bits down your throat.
- 33:54Speaker 3: So this is some weird hobby chat. In particular, the
- 33:57Speaker 3: weird hobby. that Keezy's wife has.
- 34:00Speaker 6: We're talking Keezy's wife's weird hobbies.
- 34:02Speaker 7: No, we're just talking weird hobbies. I don't want her
- 34:05Speaker 7: to feel bad about her hobby.
- 34:06Speaker 4: No, look, it's great. I'm all for it.
- 34:08Speaker 1: And just to recap what it is, she likes plane spotting.
- 34:11Speaker 7: Not full-blown plane spotting, like go park up at the
- 34:13Speaker 7: airport and watch planes land, but she loves to, when
- 34:16Speaker 7: a plane's flying overhead, go, oh, that's an M3, whatever,
- 34:19Speaker 7: and then guess where it's going to or where it's
- 34:21Speaker 7: come from, and then we'd check the app.
- 34:22Speaker 1: And then we go, oh, you were correct, it is
- 34:24Speaker 1: from Melbourne.
- 34:25Speaker 4: So good, man.
- 34:26Speaker 1: Thanks, Jess.
- 34:27Speaker 6: Angus from Westport, how's life, you mad bastard?
- 34:30Speaker 9: Yeah, good, mate, good.
- 34:31Speaker 4: Yeah, what's your weird hobby?
- 34:33Speaker 1: I like picking other people's noses, bro. Oh, yeah. I'm
- 34:36Speaker 1: in a collection.
- 34:37Speaker 6: Oh, right, picking other people's noses, did you say?
- 34:39Speaker 1: Yeah, picking it.
- 34:41Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 34:42Speaker 1: Right, lead it? Yeah, well, no, I collect it.
- 34:46Speaker 7: Right, so do you have any notable people's bogeys on
- 34:49Speaker 7: your collection or what?
- 34:52Speaker 1: Oh, it's a small town, mate, so I've basically got everyone, actually.
- 34:55Speaker 4: Yeah, cool.
- 34:57Speaker 1: Right, everyone at Westport, good stuff, mate. Can you give
- 34:59Speaker 1: that guy a $ 50 night and day?
- 35:01Speaker 4: Definitely.
- 35:02Speaker 1: Go down and get some antiseptic for your fingers there,
- 35:05Speaker 1: you sicko. Hey, man, but we can't yuck other people's yums, Minogi.
- 35:09Speaker 1: Who says? Wait, you're right, actually. I don't know who
- 35:11Speaker 1: says that, mate. Of course we can.
- 35:12Speaker 6: Speaking of weird hobbies, I mean, I don't know if
- 35:16Speaker 6: it qualifies as a weird hobby, but, you know, you
- 35:18Speaker 6: love your trains, your model trains, Mogi.
- 35:21Speaker 1: I do. I do love my model trains, but I
- 35:24Speaker 1: think for it to be weird, it has to be
- 35:26Speaker 1: like nobody's really doing it. It's really niche, like, you know,
- 35:29Speaker 1: Keezy's Mrs.
- 35:30Speaker 6: Well, you wear the weird conductor's hat and stuff.
- 35:33Speaker 1: It's not weird, though, is it? Because it's unique to conductors.
- 35:37Speaker 1: So it's a hat that conductors wear. So it's not weird.
- 35:40Speaker 1: It's what they wear.
- 35:41Speaker 7: Jase, I feel like you're really having a go at
- 35:43Speaker 7: people for having these hobbies. I'm all about acceptance.
- 35:45Speaker 4: Oh, look, I told you about my duck plates.
- 35:48Speaker 1: No, that's your wife's hobby.
- 35:49Speaker 4: I'm not one to judge, man.
- 35:51Speaker 7: Your wife likes duck plates, which, by the way, for
- 35:54Speaker 7: those just joining, are plates with little ducks painted on them.
- 35:57Speaker 1: But, Mogi, genuinely, you have your model train room.
- 35:59Speaker 6: I do.
- 36:01Speaker 1: How much line are you running in there, train line?
- 36:03Speaker 1: It's probably 3.5K now. And that's all in the size
- 36:07Speaker 1: of just your normal sort of– well, it was my
- 36:09Speaker 1: daughter's bedroom, but she's out on the couch now. We've
- 36:12Speaker 1: got a fold-out couch in the lounge, so she's in there.
- 36:14Speaker 4: Fair enough.
- 36:15Speaker 1: And what I've done is– so I've got it in
- 36:17Speaker 1: her bedroom, and then I've knocked a hole in the wall,
- 36:23Speaker 1: the wall that separates our bedroom and her bedroom. Sure.
- 36:25Speaker 1: So the train now has got a tunnel. You love tunnels, eh?
- 36:29Speaker 1: I do. It goes through the tunnel and then into
- 36:31Speaker 1: our room and sort of goes– So when you're lying
- 36:34Speaker 1: in bed, well, when we're lying in bed, I can
- 36:37Speaker 1: look up and it's got the train goes all the
- 36:39Speaker 1: way around the top of the eaves, I guess you'd
- 36:42Speaker 1: call it up there by the ceiling there, and then
- 36:44Speaker 1: back out. So it sort of does the route right
- 36:46Speaker 1: the way around the house. It takes it seven and
- 36:49Speaker 1: a half minutes to do the full house there. Oh,
- 36:53Speaker 1: that's awesome, man. See, that's cool. So there's a difference
- 36:56Speaker 1: between weird and things that losers do. And cool shit. Yeah.
- 37:00Speaker 7: Like, for example, someone here on 3483, I buy and
- 37:03Speaker 7: flip sports cards for profit.
- 37:05Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, that's weird. You were saying off there, Keezy.
- 37:09Speaker 6: That you've got back into collecting old penthouses.
- 37:13Speaker 1: Like classic ones.
- 37:13Speaker 4: Yeah, and Playboys.
- 37:15Speaker 1: Yeah, well, there's just a massive market.
- 37:17Speaker 4: Well, there is at your house, yeah. It is. I mean,
- 37:20Speaker 4: you know.
- 37:21Speaker 1: There's a huge audience for it at your house.
- 37:24Speaker 6: It's one of those things that people probably just go
- 37:26Speaker 6: online if they're that way inclined, but you like actual,
- 37:29Speaker 6: the physical collecting of the magazines.
- 37:31Speaker 1: That's right, because you're saying that it's.
- 37:34Speaker 5: Okay, trade boy, what?
- 37:37Speaker 1: That you can't search your history, like on the laptop.
- 37:39Speaker 1: There's just so much, you know, the search history gets
- 37:41Speaker 1: clogged up. But if you've just got a suitcase full
- 37:43Speaker 1: of penthouses underneath your bed. That's right. You know, my
- 37:46Speaker 1: laptop barely runs anymore. You know what I mean?
- 37:48Speaker 6: Well, I mean, funnily enough, someone came up to me
- 37:51Speaker 6: the other day and said they saw you in a
- 37:52Speaker 6: second hand shop going through the beaded curtain.
- 37:57Speaker 1: Is there a beaded curtain at a secondhand shop?
- 37:59Speaker 6: Well, a lot of them have those if they've got, like,
- 38:01Speaker 6: porno mags, like your Penthouses, your Playboys.
- 38:04Speaker 1: At a secondhand shop? Really? Yeah, yeah, totally, man. Oh, man,
- 38:07Speaker 1: I don't know anything about it. Okay.
- 38:08Speaker 4: Well, what's the earliest one you've got?
- 38:10Speaker 1: I think I've got one from 1912. Oh, okay.
- 38:13Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 38:15Speaker 1: What was the theme in the centrefold of that one?
- 38:18Speaker 1: It was probably a bit later than that, actually. The
- 38:20Speaker 1: theme was The Great Depression. LAUGHTER Couldn't afford clothes.
- 38:30Speaker 3: That best bit there from the Hauraki Big Show. 2024
- 38:33Speaker 3: discussing your weird hobbies. Now, plenty more best bits on
- 38:37Speaker 3: the way after six o'clock. I'm going to try to
- 38:40Speaker 3: squeeze in at least two, possibly even three. I'm just
- 38:43Speaker 3: going to ram them. I'm just going to take them
- 38:45Speaker 3: and I'm just going to ball them up and just
- 38:47Speaker 3: ram them into your ear holes. Now, by the way,
- 38:49Speaker 3: I don't know if you saw the mascot here at
- 38:51Speaker 3: Hauraki actually got named. We were asking for your names
- 38:54Speaker 3: for a couple of weeks, giving away a couple of
- 38:56Speaker 3: tickets to the ACC zone at the Black Clash there.
- 39:00Speaker 3: The final winning name announced by Gerry and Minaya, Rongan. Rongan,
- 39:04Speaker 3: which is a cricket term. So I'm going to leave
- 39:07Speaker 3: that with you to decipher. But in the meantime, plenty
- 39:10Speaker 3: on the way after six.
- 39:11Speaker 5: On the Hauraki Big Show.
- 39:12Speaker 1: Stick around.
- 39:13Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 39:17Speaker 2: in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 39:19Speaker 3: Welcome back, you absolute backbones. It's Pugs here, producer of
- 39:24Speaker 3: the Hauraki Big Show, filling in for the feelings who
- 39:26Speaker 3: will all return and reunite in a warm embrace. on
- 39:30Speaker 3: Monday at 4pm. They will be back in tandem with
- 39:35Speaker 3: each other. But, of course, the big show, regardless of
- 39:38Speaker 3: who's sitting in this seat at this time of day,
- 39:39Speaker 3: is brought to you by the backbones that make you
- 39:42Speaker 3: the beef, chicken, vegan, and vegetarian options.
- 39:44Speaker 5: Of course, I'm talking about re-burger, redefining the norm.
- 39:48Speaker 1: Hooray, worthy.
- 39:51Speaker 3: You want to know how serious I am about these
- 39:53Speaker 3: best bits? I'm not faffing about. I'm not farting around.
- 39:57Speaker 3: I have gone back to my laptop outside of the
- 39:59Speaker 3: studio where I have a massive folder of archived bits...
- 40:05Speaker 3: And I have brought more bits out. You thought I
- 40:07Speaker 3: played heaps of best bits already?
- 40:09Speaker 5: I've got more.
- 40:10Speaker 3: I've just gone and got more and loaded them onto
- 40:11Speaker 3: the system so that I can fill this hour with
- 40:14Speaker 3: as much of the feels as is humanly possible. But
- 40:17Speaker 3: it's a pleasure to have you with me. Hope you're
- 40:19Speaker 3: having a great Friday evening. And let me know what
- 40:21Speaker 3: your plans are for the weekend.
- 40:22Speaker 5: 3483, here you go.
- 40:23Speaker 3: Here's a little summary from me to you. Tomorrow, going
- 40:28Speaker 3: to the AFC.
- 40:29Speaker 5: And guess what?
- 40:29Speaker 1: Boom.
- 40:30Speaker 3: Just got two more tickets so that another couple of
- 40:32Speaker 3: my mates could join on. So now we've got a
- 40:33Speaker 3: massive posse. A massive, huge, throbbing posse going to the
- 40:39Speaker 3: AFC game up here in Tamaki Makoto. So let me
- 40:41Speaker 3: know what you're up to. And in the meantime, I'll
- 40:43Speaker 3: spin you some coins of the Stone Age. This is
- 40:45Speaker 3: Feet Don't Foul Me on the Hodaki Big Show.
- 40:47Speaker 2: The Hodaki Big Show with Jason Hoyt, Mike Minogue and Casey.
- 40:52Speaker 5: Radiohead on Hodaki.
- 40:54Speaker 3: It's Pugs here spinning you some of the Big Show's
- 40:56Speaker 3: best moments from years past.
- 40:57Speaker 5: This one from four years ago.
- 40:59Speaker 3: It's a pretty iconic moment, and obviously working in media,
- 41:02Speaker 3: any media job, but radio in particular, it's a social gig.
- 41:05Speaker 5: And let's just say, oh, Keezy, he's a social guy.
- 41:08Speaker 3: It's not for me to say whether or not he's
- 41:10Speaker 3: social to the point of irresponsibility and possibly an intervention.
- 41:13Speaker 5: That's not for me to say. But let's just say
- 41:15Speaker 5: Jason Hoyt woke up with a voicemail.
- 41:18Speaker 4: Keezy.
- 41:19Speaker 1: Yeah. Look at him, eh? How good. Grinning from ear
- 41:23Speaker 1: to ear. And as we were saying, Jase, it's good
- 41:26Speaker 1: for old Keezy to get a win because he had
- 41:27Speaker 1: a bit of a roughy last night, didn't you, mate? Yeah, totally.
- 41:29Speaker 1: You had a few beers at the Hauraki party for
- 41:31Speaker 1: the old ratings that came out. Yeah, which we didn't get.
- 41:34Speaker 4: An invite to, by the way.
- 41:36Speaker 1: I mean, like I said, you didn't miss much. It
- 41:38Speaker 1: wrapped up by about 10, 11. It was more just
- 41:41Speaker 1: a quiet. But what did you do after the party? Yeah, yeah.
- 41:44Speaker 1: Because the party wrapped up. What did you do?
- 41:46Speaker 7: I mean, I was pretty knackered, so to be honest,
- 41:49Speaker 7: I had a few, and then I'm pretty sure I
- 41:50Speaker 7: just went straight home.
- 41:51Speaker 1: Yeah, pretty sure. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 41:53Speaker 9: Mrs.
- 41:53Speaker 1: Picked me up. Yeah, yeah.
- 41:56Speaker 4: So you just rung your wife there, or your fiancée? Yeah.
- 42:00Speaker 1: She's like, yeah, I'll come pick you up, mate.
- 42:01Speaker 4: Did you make any other calls or anything like that?
- 42:03Speaker 1: I mean, you mentioned this earlier.
- 42:05Speaker 4: No, I didn't.
- 42:05Speaker 5: I don't, I don't, just haven't.
- 42:09Speaker 1: Did I call you? Pretty late there, wasn't it, mate? Well,
- 42:12Speaker 1: you must have rung old Hoity J in your sleep there, eh?
- 42:18Speaker 4: Yeah, 2.19am.
- 42:20Speaker 5: Did you answer?
- 42:23Speaker 4: Well, let's have a listen, shall we, Casey?
- 42:24Speaker 1: Play that for a shot.
- 42:26Speaker 6: Hi there, you've reached the phone of Hoity J. I
- 42:29Speaker 6: can't take your call right now, so leave a message
- 42:32Speaker 6: and I'll get.
- 42:32Speaker 4: Back to you.
- 42:34Speaker 1: Oh, g'day, Jason.
- 42:37Speaker 7: Keezy here, mate.
- 42:41Speaker 2: Just thought I'd give you a ring.
- 42:44Speaker 1: Missed you tonight, buddy.
- 42:46Speaker 7: Tell you what, everyone was like, where's Jase?
- 42:52Speaker 2: Where's Jase?
- 42:53Speaker 1: Then I'm like, who even gives a f.
- 42:57Speaker 7: * * *? Those stupid wizard legs, you know?
- 43:02Speaker 1: Anyway, I'm off, mate. I've got a pocket full of
- 43:04Speaker 1: brothel dollars. And I'll catch you tomorrow for the old throbber.
- 43:11Speaker 2: Backbone.
- 43:17Speaker 1: I do not remember that.
- 43:21Speaker 4: As I say, 2.17am, Mike.
- 43:23Speaker 1: I'm so sorry.
- 43:24Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 43:25Speaker 1: And I don't know what that whole brothel dollars thing
- 43:27Speaker 1: was about. Yeah, sure you don't.
- 43:29Speaker 6: Well, no, but you said that you went home with
- 43:32Speaker 6: your fiancé at around 10am. That call was 2.17am.
- 43:39Speaker 1: Yeah. To be honest, I mean, I was pretty tired. Yeah.
- 43:42Speaker 1: You know, because it's been a big week and we'd
- 43:44Speaker 1: been working hard, you know. So you went to bed
- 43:46Speaker 1: for two hours and you ducked out to the brothel.
- 43:49Speaker 1: Can we talk about this off air?
- 43:50Speaker 5: Is that all right? Yeah.
- 43:52Speaker 1: That's fine, Kesey.
- 43:53Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 43:54Speaker 4: It's all good, buddy.
- 43:56Speaker 1: Hey, at least you won the old, you won the throbber.
- 43:59Speaker 1: That'll cheer you up, mate. Yeah, that's something. Good work, mate.
- 44:01Speaker 4: Something positive to take into the weekend there.
- 44:03Speaker 1: Good on you. When you're having a chat with your
- 44:06Speaker 1: missus tonight, you can remind her that you've had a
- 44:07Speaker 1: win in the old throbber.
- 44:09Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 44:10Speaker 5: You never go for the legs, mate. That's just downright disrespectful.
- 44:14Speaker 3: Now, the fellas will be back, I was going to
- 44:16Speaker 3: say Friday, Monday at 4 p.m. If you can't wait
- 44:19Speaker 3: until then, search Hauraki Big Show, wherever you get your
- 44:21Speaker 3: podcasts from, and you can go all the way back
- 44:24Speaker 3: to 2022 like that little best bit. There's another one
- 44:26Speaker 3: from 2023 on the way after the break. Keezy did
- 44:29Speaker 3: its first ever stand-up comedy set in 2013. And he
- 44:32Speaker 3: was getting some practice done with the fellas.
- 44:34Speaker 5: So hang around for that. It's the Hauraki Big Show.
- 44:36Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show with Jason Hoyt, Mike Minogue and Kesey.
- 44:41Speaker 5: Racing on the Hauraki Big Show. You're here with Pugs.
- 44:43Speaker 3: I'm filling in for Jace, Mike and Kesey before they
- 44:46Speaker 3: get back on Monday at 4pm.
- 44:49Speaker 5: And feeding you up with some best bits. And this
- 44:52Speaker 5: is the last one of the day.
- 44:54Speaker 3: Gosh, we've come far together, haven't we? This is from
- 44:58Speaker 3: around mid-2022, I want to say. So about four years ago.
- 45:02Speaker 3: Jase had a bit of an incident when he was
- 45:04Speaker 3: on the way into work and it just showed what.
- 45:06Speaker 5: A charitable, heroic fella the wee fella is.
- 45:11Speaker 1: Jase, I understand that something freaky, freaky happened to you
- 45:15Speaker 1: on the way to work today.
- 45:16Speaker 4: Um, mate. Jeez. Jeez Louise. I parked in my normal
- 45:23Speaker 4: park there in Sky City.
- 45:25Speaker 1: Oh, because you pop in before work, don't you? Yeah, yeah.
- 45:27Speaker 1: A little to-do on the Queen of the Nile.
- 45:29Speaker 4: Ching, ching, ching, ching.
- 45:30Speaker 1: Queen of the Nile, she's a pretty harsh mistress.
- 45:35Speaker 6: Oh, she is the old Queen of the Nile, no
- 45:36Speaker 6: question about it.
- 45:37Speaker 4: Anyway, so I was out there at the lights there
- 45:39Speaker 4: and I heard.
- 45:40Speaker 1: This, ah, ah, ah.
- 45:42Speaker 4: What was it? That was a woman screaming.
- 45:46Speaker 1: Oh, is that a woman?
- 45:47Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah.
- 45:47Speaker 1: Ah.
- 45:49Speaker 6: You see, I can do all sorts of voices and accents, Mike,
- 45:52Speaker 6: and languages, but I can never do the female very well,
- 45:55Speaker 6: you know.
- 45:55Speaker 4: But anyway.
- 45:56Speaker 1: That's what I hear.
- 45:57Speaker 4: And so she was looking up.
- 45:58Speaker 3: And I look up.
- 46:08Speaker 4: To the apartment building there, and there's a window cleaner.
- 46:11Speaker 1: Oh, naked.
- 46:12Speaker 6: Oh, no, he's totally clothed, but he's dangling by one foot.
- 46:17Speaker 4: Oh, yeah. By a rope, and he was about 20
- 46:19Speaker 4: feet up.
- 46:19Speaker 1: 20 feet?
- 46:21Speaker 4: No, sorry.
- 46:22Speaker 6: Jeez.
- 46:22Speaker 3: 20 metres.
- 46:23Speaker 4: About 20 storeys up.
- 46:24Speaker 1: Storeys, that's higher.
- 46:25Speaker 6: And this crowd sort of gathered around, and he was
- 46:27Speaker 6: just dangling by one foot, screaming his head off.
- 46:30Speaker 1: He was screaming like a woman.
- 46:31Speaker 6: No, well, he was more sort of, oh!
- 46:34Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. Help, help.
- 46:36Speaker 3: Help.
- 46:37Speaker 6: And I sort of looked up and there was this
- 46:38Speaker 6: crowd there and I was like, I don't know what happened.
- 46:40Speaker 6: I was just.
- 46:48Speaker 4: And I just started sprinting.
- 46:49Speaker 6: My mind just sort of took over and I was
- 46:51Speaker 6: up the stairs, mate.
- 46:54Speaker 4: Are you punching the stairs?
- 46:57Speaker 6: Just going full tin up the stairs, and I reckon
- 47:00Speaker 6: I did about sort of 20 stories in about, Paul.
- 47:04Speaker 4: 30 seconds, mate?
- 47:05Speaker 1: Yeah, sounds about right.
- 47:06Speaker 6: Got to where the floor level was, sort of, you know,
- 47:09Speaker 6: got through this door, and there were people making love,
- 47:12Speaker 6: and I was like, excuse me, excuse me, emergency, emergency.
- 47:15Speaker 6: Got out in the balcony and just leapt. Before I
- 47:18Speaker 6: even thought about it, just leapt. grabbed hold of the rope,
- 47:21Speaker 6: just clung onto the rope, managed to lift him out.
- 47:24Speaker 6: You know what it was like, lift him up sort
- 47:26Speaker 6: of horizontal to me, and you remember what it was
- 47:29Speaker 6: like when you were a kid on a swing and
- 47:30Speaker 6: it was static?
- 47:31Speaker 4: Yeah. Did the old Archie back.
- 47:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 47:33Speaker 3: Thrusty.
- 47:34Speaker 1: Thrusty. Thrust. Thrusty, Archie, Archie. He was sitting on your lap.
- 47:38Speaker 6: And he was on my lap, just thrusting, swung us
- 47:41Speaker 6: back to the balcony, mate, and fortunately it all sort of,
- 47:47Speaker 6: it all turned out okay, and.
- 47:50Speaker 6: But a hell of a way.
- 47:51Speaker 4: To start the afternoon, I can tell. A bit puffed,
- 47:53Speaker 4: to be honest. Lucky I'd been working out that morning.
- 47:55Speaker 1: Was he pretty grateful?
- 47:57Speaker 4: Oh, he was kind of indifferent, really.
- 47:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 47:59Speaker 4: He didn't really seem to care that much.
- 48:01Speaker 1: Yeah. Because often those guys will hang from those ropes
- 48:05Speaker 1: if they're cleaning somewhere that's particularly hard to get.
- 48:08Speaker 6: Oh, right.
- 48:08Speaker 4: You think it might have been deliberate.
- 48:11Speaker 6: Well, actually, when I think about it, actually, when I
- 48:13Speaker 6: pull them up and stuff, what the fuck are you doing?
- 48:18Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 48:18Speaker 5: What is that?
- 48:20Speaker 4: You know, I just risked my life to save you.
- 48:23Speaker 1: Save someone who didn't need saving. And he's deducing me. Well,
- 48:25Speaker 1: this is a little word of wisdom that I came
- 48:28Speaker 1: up with. Look before you leap. Let's write that down.
- 48:33Speaker 4: For us, Keezy. Keezy, that's bloody good, mate.
- 48:36Speaker 1: Capital letters for that one.
- 48:38Speaker 5: Jason, all his heroism.
- 48:39Speaker 3: We'll be back on Monday at 4 with Mike Minogue
- 48:42Speaker 3: and with Keezy on the Hauraki Big Show.
- 48:45Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show with Jason Hoyt, Mike Minogue and Keezy.
- 48:56Speaker 5: It's not the same without other people doing it.
- 48:58Speaker 1: That's me. That's my week done.
- 49:08Speaker 3: I hope you've had a good time listening back through
- 49:10Speaker 3: some of the big show's best moments, and I hope
- 49:12Speaker 3: you'll be even more excited to hear something new from
- 49:15Speaker 3: them on Monday.
- 49:15Speaker 5: How exciting. They'll be back at 4pm. Jase, Mike, Keezy.
- 49:19Speaker 5: Jase back from... Aussie on his road trip. Keezy back
- 49:21Speaker 5: from Japan. Old Keezy-san.
- 49:24Speaker 3: And Mogi from his long birthday weekend of getting irresponsibly steamed.
- 49:30Speaker 3: So that's all from me. Now I am putting out
- 49:32Speaker 3: another disclaimer podcast. I've been doing throwback disclaimer podcasts from
- 49:36Speaker 3: years past as well.
- 49:38Speaker 5: That'll be out at 7.30.
- 49:39Speaker 3: Today's another mixed bag of some of our most downloaded disclaimers.
- 49:42Speaker 5: Or outros as they used to be called from over
- 49:44Speaker 5: the years. So get around that.
- 49:46Speaker 3: Search Hodaki Big Show wherever you get your podcasts from.
- 49:49Speaker 3: Plus keep an eye on the socials. Hodaki Big Show
- 49:51Speaker 3: on Insta or Radio Hodaki on Facebook. And I'll have
- 49:56Speaker 3: a little video coming out over the weekend too just
- 49:57Speaker 3: to remind you to tune in on Monday for goodness sake.
- 50:01Speaker 5: So get around it.
- 50:01Speaker 3: Plus if you missed any of the songs from bands
- 50:04Speaker 3: that we like, those little tunes that we've been spinning,
- 50:07Speaker 3: I'll put out a post on the Hauraki Big Show
- 50:08Speaker 3: Insta tonight as well just to recap so you can
- 50:11Speaker 3: go back and have a listen. But in the meantime,
- 50:13Speaker 3: have yourself a beautiful weekend. I think I'm back in
- 50:15Speaker 3: here on Sunday. I just can't let it go. And
- 50:17Speaker 3: I'll probably fit in more best bits then as well.
- 50:19Speaker 5: It's been an absolute pleasure. Take it easy. Love your work.
- 50:22Speaker 5: It's been Pugs.
- 50:22Speaker 3: Love you.
- 50:23Speaker 1: Bye.
