- 0:13Speaker 5: Brought to you by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers
- 0:16Speaker 5: i bd W Local sixty eight.
- 0:18Speaker 3: Start with the job and with the career.
- 0:20Speaker 2: It's Leggye on Altitude Sports Radio ninety two five.
- 0:28Speaker 3: Didn't do.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Yeah he.
- 0:41Speaker 6: Jeff Lagwold, Brought to you by the International Brotherhood of
- 0:45Speaker 6: Electrical Workers iv e W Local sixty eight. You start
- 0:51Speaker 6: with a job, you end with a career, and that's
- 0:53Speaker 6: what these players are doing. For all the breaking news,
- 0:57Speaker 6: we go to Leggy from ESPN dot com. Okay, let's
- 1:00Speaker 6: just start with Parnum. He's going to the practice squad, right, Jeff.
- 1:06Speaker 3: Yes, as far as as I've been told.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Yes, okay, all right, we weren't quite.
- 1:11Speaker 3: But you're seeing around the league, they're seeing a lot
- 1:13Speaker 3: of veteran guys signing with teams essentially being told you're
- 1:18Speaker 3: going to the practice squad, but you'll likely be a
- 1:21Speaker 3: game day elevation for as far as salary and whatnot.
- 1:25Speaker 5: Well, they got they got four active tight ends. Now
- 1:28Speaker 5: you've got one on the practice squad and you also
- 1:30Speaker 5: have oh, you have two tight ends on the practice squad. Okay,
- 1:33Speaker 5: you got two tight ends on the practice squad, and
- 1:35Speaker 5: you also have Michael Burton. Holy cow, that is a
- 1:37Speaker 5: whole lot of body types to do similar things. Jeff,
- 1:41Speaker 5: do you think that Michael Burton might be one of
- 1:43Speaker 5: those guys that gets pulled up to the fifty three
- 1:45Speaker 5: after week one simply because they don't want to guarantee
- 1:48Speaker 5: the salary.
- 1:50Speaker 3: That's part of the Tyler or just with the new
- 1:52Speaker 3: elevation rule, you know, guys can go back and forth
- 1:57Speaker 3: quite a bit and uh, and then he gives you
- 2:00Speaker 3: some rocks or flexibility, But it just tells you they
- 2:05Speaker 3: felt better about being able to get Burton back then
- 2:10Speaker 3: they did about trying to sneak a rookie or two
- 2:13Speaker 3: through waivers.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Which tight end would be the first one to get
- 2:17Speaker 2: devoted if Burton comes up?
- 2:19Speaker 4: Atkins?
- 2:20Speaker 3: Yeah, for as and then act well, you know again,
- 2:23Speaker 3: it's what are they going to do? Atkins has filled
- 2:25Speaker 3: that role. He's really the only tight end they've used
- 2:28Speaker 3: as an h back, as a full back and then
- 2:30Speaker 3: lined up as a tight end. So he uh, he's
- 2:34Speaker 3: been the only guy that's really lined up as all three.
- 2:36Speaker 3: But so I'm you know, I gotta believe it's going
- 2:40Speaker 3: to depend week to week on who they're facing or
- 2:42Speaker 3: what they think they're gonna do. And you know, he's
- 2:46Speaker 3: he said they're going to try to run the ball more,
- 2:49Speaker 3: and the fifty three says that's the case. But you know,
- 2:54Speaker 3: there's just part of me that still wants to see
- 2:56Speaker 3: it to believe it. With all of these tight ends
- 2:59Speaker 3: and fullback around.
- 3:02Speaker 4: They initially putt of the sixteen not gown the international
- 3:06Speaker 4: exception thing, just thirteen of the guys. How hard are
- 3:10Speaker 4: they looking around the league? Obviously the answer is a lot.
- 3:13Speaker 4: But what position do you think they're looking for on
- 3:15Speaker 4: that waiver war?
- 3:18Speaker 3: You know, I think they've they've really been looking at an
- 3:21Speaker 3: offensive line, you know, the whole time. It's just there
- 3:25Speaker 3: there isn't. I Mean, a part of the reason they
- 3:28Speaker 3: kept Frank Crumme as an undrafted rookie was there is
- 3:32Speaker 3: so few offensive line prospects out there right now because
- 3:36Speaker 3: a lot of guys have stayed in school longer that
- 3:40Speaker 3: they didn't think they would be able to squeeze him
- 3:42Speaker 3: through waivers even though he's you know, an undrafted rookie.
- 3:47Speaker 3: So it just tells you the state of affairs. But
- 3:49Speaker 3: I know they're they've been looking at an offensive line.
- 3:53Speaker 3: Then you know every team in the league wants more
- 3:55Speaker 3: corners too, so I'm certain people are looking at corners.
- 3:59Speaker 3: And with tomorrow Mathis's injury, you know that's gonna be
- 4:03Speaker 3: a few weeks too, so until he comes back.
- 4:07Speaker 1: What was it? What did it come down to? Tim Patrick?
- 4:11Speaker 3: Jeff, I think ultimately as he doesn't play special teams,
- 4:18Speaker 3: they say d MAC. I think also, I think in
- 4:23Speaker 3: a perfect world, they really really really wanted to keep
- 4:26Speaker 3: six receivers. They just couldn't couldn't figure out how to
- 4:30Speaker 3: do it. You know, I think that an extra offensive
- 4:32Speaker 3: lineman was that slot. They kept, an extra running back
- 4:35Speaker 3: that was that slot. They just uh, you know, I
- 4:39Speaker 3: am I know there were scenarios they did within the
- 4:43Speaker 3: last week where Tim Patrick makes it, and so when
- 4:46Speaker 3: it came down to the only scenario that really mattered,
- 4:50Speaker 3: which is what they really did, uh, there just wasn't
- 4:53Speaker 3: room for him, especially if the special teams coaches get
- 4:57Speaker 3: the last right, you know, six or seven slots.
- 5:01Speaker 6: What would it take what value would it take to
- 5:04Speaker 6: trade Stidham or Zach Wilson in your opinion.
- 5:08Speaker 3: Well, the fact they've kept him to this point to
- 5:12Speaker 3: me says a lot. I mean, they're willing to guarantee
- 5:15Speaker 3: you know, a vested veterans salary in Stidham, you know,
- 5:19Speaker 3: right out of the gate if he's here week one.
- 5:21Speaker 3: So they seem committed to the three. So I think
- 5:25Speaker 3: it would take a pretty good especially with Wilson. I
- 5:28Speaker 3: think they'd be far more willing to talk a deal
- 5:32Speaker 3: with with Jared Stidham. But I think they really are very,
- 5:36Speaker 3: very curious about what Wilson can become under their guidance.
- 5:41Speaker 3: I mean, like a lot of coaching staffs, they believe,
- 5:45Speaker 3: you know, when we get with the guy and then
- 5:46Speaker 3: he's really going to flourish.
- 5:49Speaker 4: Saying that that did that surprise you the the I
- 5:53Speaker 4: don't know if it's fair to say growth yet. I mean,
- 5:55Speaker 4: we've had six weeks of training camp, but did did
- 5:57Speaker 4: did Wilson from from all of our percent of what
- 6:00Speaker 4: we knew and what we've seen him in the last
- 6:02Speaker 4: few years in New York? Did he surprise you this
- 6:05Speaker 4: training camp?
- 6:07Speaker 3: You know? I? Uh, Scotty, I mean I went back
- 6:11Speaker 3: when they traded for him. I went back and looked
- 6:13Speaker 3: at all the things I collected before that draft, and
- 6:18Speaker 3: you know, I had my I still had my notes
- 6:20Speaker 3: from the the game video breakdowns and all the interviews
- 6:25Speaker 3: I had done with scouts and everybody, and uh, you know,
- 6:30Speaker 3: there was all kinds of talk about arm strength. But
- 6:33Speaker 3: it's a lot more explosive of a of a delivery
- 6:37Speaker 3: than I that I gave him credit for before he
- 6:39Speaker 3: got here. It's it's a very uh, you know, baseball
- 6:43Speaker 3: they would call it easy cheese. I mean, he's got
- 6:45Speaker 3: a very short delivery and the ball just pops pops out,
- 6:51Speaker 3: and that's that's rare and it's hard to find. So
- 6:54Speaker 3: I can I can understand why they're so uh enamored
- 6:58Speaker 3: was seeing where that could be. And I think they
- 7:02Speaker 3: people have conveyed to me they were a lot very
- 7:06Speaker 3: impressed with hol Wilson has handled himself just off the
- 7:09Speaker 3: field here, how he's worked, how he's been in meetings,
- 7:13Speaker 3: how he's spent in the building, how he's helped bo Nix.
- 7:16Speaker 3: I mean, he's he's done all of the stuff you'd
- 7:20Speaker 3: like a veteran to do. So and then you couple
- 7:22Speaker 3: that with he's got the best arm in the room.
- 7:25Speaker 3: So that's an.
- 7:26Speaker 2: Awful lot we should uh.
- 7:28Speaker 5: We started hearing about any waiver wire pickups relatively shortly
- 7:32Speaker 5: here right, it ends about at two o'clock.
- 7:34Speaker 3: They didn't claim anybody twenty sixth players. Twenty six players
- 7:40Speaker 3: were claimed. That's two more than last year. League Wide,
- 7:44Speaker 3: the Broncos only had one player claimed. Uh. From the
- 7:48Speaker 3: players they they waved.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Who was Waite? Who is claimed?
- 7:54Speaker 3: Demontree Jacobs Okay okay, big tackle prospect, which is a
- 7:58Speaker 3: tackle prospect they really like.
- 8:00Speaker 1: They lost out. He would have certainly been signed to
- 8:01Speaker 1: the practice squad.
- 8:03Speaker 3: I would say it was probably a ninety plus percent coming.
- 8:08Speaker 4: Well.
- 8:08Speaker 6: That means if they if they had anybody, it would
- 8:10Speaker 6: be a free agent sort of guy. If they were
- 8:13Speaker 6: it would be somebody with more experience in the NFL.
- 8:17Speaker 1: Is are there any guys like that? Jeff? Is there
- 8:19Speaker 1: anybody out there that may fit that? Bill?
- 8:21Speaker 3: I don't. I don't you know again, I just gave
- 8:24Speaker 3: the list a quick glance. I don't. I don't get
- 8:27Speaker 3: that sense. I think they I think their salary cap
- 8:30Speaker 3: situation has forced them to get young, and I think
- 8:34Speaker 3: they've convinced themselves that it's a good thing, and it's
- 8:37Speaker 3: probably probably a good thing because they didn't have any
- 8:41Speaker 3: choice really. But you know, it's been a long time since, uh,
- 8:45Speaker 3: you know we've seen a four undrafted, so I'm not
- 8:49Speaker 3: sure I've ever seen that in my time. I remember
- 8:53Speaker 3: three one year.
- 8:57Speaker 6: Wes Brett Kurn me, so this year it's Smith? Is
- 9:03Speaker 6: he Tremont or Candering?
- 9:05Speaker 1: Is that right? How do you say his name? Jeff
- 9:07Speaker 1: helped me out there.
- 9:08Speaker 3: Oh no that I think the undrafted rookies technically are Crumb, Watson, Lavelle,
- 9:14Speaker 3: Bailey and uh, I gotta think.
- 9:20Speaker 1: Was Kendrew Smith already in the NFL for one year?
- 9:22Speaker 1: Did I am? I missing that up?
- 9:25Speaker 3: I think he's got some practice squad?
- 9:26Speaker 4: Oh?
- 9:27Speaker 1: Was he really?
- 9:27Speaker 4: Okay?
- 9:28Speaker 1: And there's one more? Who is it?
- 9:29Speaker 4: Then?
- 9:33Speaker 1: Is not Jordan Jackson?
- 9:34Speaker 4: Is it? No?
- 9:35Speaker 3: He had? He was? He's a one year one year young?
- 9:38Speaker 1: Okay, want somebody I don't know?
- 9:43Speaker 3: All right, Jeff, when I help, I'll think of it.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Okay, all right? Okay?
- 9:51Speaker 6: Was this a We had two guys who were picked
- 9:54Speaker 6: up by other teams right away. We had another dude
- 9:57Speaker 6: claimed off waivers. All right, Okay, does that give you
- 10:02Speaker 6: should we or should Broadbos fans be encouraged that this
- 10:05Speaker 6: was a pretty deep roster, uh, and that the the
- 10:10Speaker 6: the construction so far is pretty solid.
- 10:14Speaker 3: Well, I mean I think you know, technically, Tim Patrick's
- 10:18Speaker 3: going to a practice squad with some elevation. Yeah. I
- 10:23Speaker 3: don't know that you can make some grand thing that
- 10:26Speaker 3: they're you know, they're better now because other people wanted
- 10:30Speaker 3: a couple of their players. I think it's more telling
- 10:33Speaker 3: to me that, you know, look at the skill position
- 10:37Speaker 3: suddenly you know, the quarterbacks are rookie. You've got nine
- 10:42Speaker 3: receivers and running backs on the roster and uh, you
- 10:48Speaker 3: know six of them are either rookies are in their
- 10:52Speaker 3: second year. So, I mean it really is particularly at
- 10:56Speaker 3: the skill positions are super young group. And that's either
- 11:02Speaker 3: that's either awesome for the future or you know, welcome
- 11:05Speaker 3: to the growing pain uh part of the program you
- 11:10Speaker 3: know coming up here in the next few weeks.
- 11:13Speaker 1: All right, good stuf, Jeff. Anything else for mister legwell boys?
- 11:17Speaker 4: What was it? What was the wide receiver we talked
- 11:19Speaker 4: about with the Raiders had a tough year last year?
- 11:23Speaker 4: Rentro has rinpro been signed and if not is it
- 11:26Speaker 4: just the point too small, too slow? I think his
- 11:30Speaker 4: best years are behind. Hi, what's dal with.
- 11:32Speaker 3: Rentro Well Scotty would? I mean they took a fifty
- 11:36Speaker 3: three dead hit this year here because they didn't want
- 11:39Speaker 3: to deal with the quarterback and that they're saving every
- 11:44Speaker 3: dollar they can on on decisions, and they got a
- 11:46Speaker 3: pretty expensive quarterback room. So I think that's why I
- 11:51Speaker 3: think he's a little too old for the profile here,
- 11:53Speaker 3: unless they had some a couple of injuries or something
- 11:58Speaker 3: pushed them differently.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Great stuff, Jeff.
- 12:00Speaker 6: I know practice starts here shortly a little bit later,
- 12:03Speaker 6: and we appreciate it and we'll be following along.
- 12:07Speaker 1: As as it goes.
- 12:08Speaker 6: But do you predict wins Jeff before season starts. I
- 12:12Speaker 6: don't know if you do that or not. You want
- 12:14Speaker 6: to throw a number.
- 12:14Speaker 3: Out or no, I don't. I know you've predicted like fifteen,
- 12:18Speaker 3: that's right, I have not come on now, I mean,
- 12:22Speaker 3: I mean you still have the pomp poms with your
- 12:25Speaker 3: back pocket. After the rookie list, name the quarterback.
- 12:28Speaker 6: Or Jeff, I got I got a bon Nix like
- 12:30Speaker 6: you can't believe right now, I mean he's the starting
- 12:32Speaker 6: quarterback and I'm all for it.
- 12:35Speaker 3: Yeah, well you know it did. It did look like
- 12:38Speaker 3: a victory lap to me, that's all I'm gonna say.
- 12:40Speaker 3: I'll just leave it.
- 12:41Speaker 5: Thanks, Joff, you think, yeah, this has been a six
- 12:47Speaker 5: year long coming victory lap.
- 12:50Speaker 1: No doubt about it, no doubt about it. I'm trying
- 12:53Speaker 1: to be humble. How am I doing on that?
- 12:55Speaker 4: What if you have? After week seven? They're one and five.
- 12:57Speaker 4: Nick has four touchdowns, nine interceptions.
- 13:00Speaker 1: I think, keep keep going and I can't wait to
- 13:02Speaker 1: get Travis Hunter.
- 13:03Speaker 5: Here's my advice to you. Don't pull a d on. Okay,
- 13:05Speaker 5: don't don't pull a don don't don't. Don't start talking
- 13:08Speaker 5: before anything's really happened.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Do you believe believe? I do believe believe Now when
- 13:14Speaker 1: you say pulling a d on, is that just not
- 13:15Speaker 1: understanding basic words?
- 13:17Speaker 4: No, not answering. He's not answering Tyler.
- 13:19Speaker 1: Oh, not answering Tyler.
- 13:21Speaker 2: Oh he does that anyways.
- 13:24Speaker 4: Tyler, Tyler's not allowed you boycotting from asking you questions.
- 13:28Speaker 6: That's too funny, listen, I think, Jeff, great way to
- 13:33Speaker 6: point it out.
- 13:34Speaker 1: It is a youth movement like we probably haven't seen before.
- 13:38Speaker 1: It is a coding you should have been done seven
- 13:40Speaker 1: years ago.
- 13:41Speaker 6: For Wreckt so for everybody out there that's been begging
- 13:45Speaker 6: for not just the quarterback, but like, hey, let's really
- 13:48Speaker 6: restart this bad boy.
- 13:50Speaker 4: Here we go.
- 13:50Speaker 2: If you do it right, if you do it right
- 13:52Speaker 2: and it.
- 13:52Speaker 1: Works, it's pretty awesome.
- 13:54Speaker 3: Now.
- 13:54Speaker 5: Not only do you move to the quarterback and everybody
- 13:57Speaker 5: wants a young quarterback on a rookie deal, right, that
- 14:00Speaker 5: makes everything friendly. Okay, if we could reset things at a
- 14:03Speaker 5: couple other positions. You get rid of guys like Tim Patrick.
- 14:06Speaker 5: Now you've got young wide receivers coming in. In theory,
- 14:09Speaker 5: you do it right, you're gonna have a boatload of
- 14:12Speaker 5: money to spend when it comes time to retain your
- 14:14Speaker 5: own guys.
- 14:14Speaker 4: But Lay's already said though, if you if you develop
- 14:18Speaker 4: young players and draft correctly, then that free agency is
- 14:22Speaker 4: the Neil Smith that puts you over the top. And
- 14:26Speaker 4: you went to super Bow.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Wow, you can add guys like that. That sneer, You
- 14:29Speaker 1: could add guys like that.
- 14:31Speaker 4: Yeah, So so that's what you and I know everything
- 14:34Speaker 4: sides that. But after you won the championship and they
- 14:36Speaker 4: cut you because you were old, they it should have
- 14:39Speaker 4: been right then the the year Manny doesn't play. They
- 14:42Speaker 4: should try to wear his major cans. But you should
- 14:44Speaker 4: have gone hard young right this year, here we go,
- 14:47Speaker 4: Let's see what happened.
- 14:48Speaker 2: Take it easy. They didn't cut me. Take it easy.
- 14:51Speaker 1: Tyler retired, could have come back. Oh, probably should have
- 14:57Speaker 1: look at that bo.
- 15:00Speaker 2: Bank accounts gone the wrong way?
- 15:01Speaker 1: Boys, which on what could have you guys?
- 15:05Speaker 4: I just I could have had here in Cleveland?
- 15:08Speaker 1: Well what would that look like forty years later or whatever?
- 15:11Speaker 2: Kind What kind of morons were we?
- 15:13Speaker 5: What kind of morons were we got a million dollars
- 15:17Speaker 5: sitting in front in you walk away from it like, what.
- 15:19Speaker 4: The hell was I doing? And tell you that in
- 15:22Speaker 4: my story we wasn't even close that it was like,
- 15:24Speaker 4: but it's still five hundred.
- 15:25Speaker 1: I bet it's more than you're making now.
- 15:26Speaker 4: But hold on the guy that Tim Kimpton, the guy
- 15:29Speaker 4: that that they signed instead of me had. You know
- 15:33Speaker 4: you're only gonna make this. You're just gonna your back up.
- 15:35Speaker 4: Brad Doherty. You know there was like a bonus in there.
- 15:38Speaker 4: Minutes played bonus of a million dollars, blah blah blah. Whatever. Yeah,
- 15:41Speaker 4: never gonna get Yeah, yeah. Brad Doughty tears his a
- 15:44Speaker 4: cl Game two and my boy Kimpton got that million
- 15:47Speaker 4: dollar bonus from commitutes played.
- 15:50Speaker 1: It was all leading you guys to this moment to
- 15:53Speaker 1: work with me and Dan hold.
- 15:54Speaker 4: On, stupid, Have you ever lived in Cleveland? I mean,
- 15:57Speaker 4: have you here live?
- 15:59Speaker 6: Hey, dude, I could live anywhere at thirty two years
- 16:02Speaker 6: of age or whatever for a year, bro, not even
- 16:05Speaker 6: for a year.
- 16:06Speaker 1: For nine months.
- 16:07Speaker 6: Sure, put me in Siberia at thirty two for a
- 16:10Speaker 6: million dollars for a year.
- 16:11Speaker 1: I could do it. It wouldn't be that bad. And
- 16:14Speaker 1: you're on the road half the time in pretty cool city.
- 16:16Speaker 4: Yeah, I haven't done. The newborn kids.
- 16:19Speaker 1: They'll get to know you later, they can't even talk.
- 16:21Speaker 4: Then you'll be there for Seriously, and I say this
- 16:25Speaker 4: in a very loving way, have you ever seen a
- 16:27Speaker 4: guy more anti fan? Big time?
- 16:30Speaker 2: How dare you get married? Oh my gosh, what an
- 16:32Speaker 2: idiot you are.
- 16:33Speaker 1: I just know when it's time forget the kids.
- 16:35Speaker 2: You moved to New York City because you're supposed to
- 16:37Speaker 2: move to New York City.
- 16:38Speaker 1: I'll tell you people think way too much of themselves
- 16:41Speaker 1: when it comes to their kids and what they care about.
- 16:44Speaker 1: I'll tell you that the ten year.
- 16:45Speaker 4: Old birthday parties too.
- 16:48Speaker 1: One year old birthday parties are the stupidest thing, he says.
- 16:50Speaker 2: It's for the kids, it's for us as dad's I know.
- 16:54Speaker 1: Doubt about that.
- 16:55Speaker 4: I went to one Saturday.
- 16:56Speaker 1: Yeah, how was that? Did the one year old really
- 16:58Speaker 1: appreciate it?
- 16:58Speaker 4: The parents did?
- 17:00Speaker 2: Oh?
- 17:01Speaker 1: Oh, you mean the party was for the parents.
- 17:03Speaker 4: And I got to play and I got to play
- 17:04Speaker 4: it by one year old grandfather? Uh huh?
- 17:06Speaker 1: Okay, So you couldn't come over the next day and
