- 0:00Speaker 1: I'm Richard Duggan in the news. There were extensive backlogs
- 0:03Speaker 1: on the TCH yesterday following a serious collision east of Goobies.
- 0:07Speaker 1: The collision happened yesterday afternoon east of Jackspond near the
- 0:11Speaker 1: Southern Harbor exit. Both lanes of the highway were shut down,
- 0:14Speaker 1: resulting in traffic being reduced to a standstill for hours.
- 0:18Speaker 1: The highway reopened after seven thirty last night. There's no
- 0:21Speaker 1: word on the extent of any injuries at this time.
- 0:24Speaker 1: An investigation is ongoing following an incident on Naskapie Crescent
- 0:28Speaker 1: in Saint John's last night, the result in the arrest
- 0:31Speaker 1: of one person. The rn C responded around seven thirty
- 0:34Speaker 1: pm after someone called to report lots of screaming before
- 0:37Speaker 1: their phone line got disconnected. Police arrived on the scene
- 0:40Speaker 1: in numbers due to what they say was a large
- 0:42Speaker 1: number of people present. They arrested a thirty nine year
- 0:45Speaker 1: old man who had an active warrant. The investigation continues.
- 0:50Speaker 1: A thirty year old man is in custody after the
- 0:52Speaker 1: RNC say he put up quite a struggle during his arrest.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Police recalled to a home on Saint Clair Avenue just
- 0:57Speaker 1: before ten am yesterday to reports of a man who
- 1:00Speaker 1: was causing a disturbance, threatening people and refusing to leave
- 1:03Speaker 1: the area. After what's described as an extended struggle, the
- 1:07Speaker 1: accused was arrested. The officers alleged they were kicked and
- 1:10Speaker 1: scratched during the altercation and once suffered minor injuries. The
- 1:14Speaker 1: man has been charged with three counts of assaulting a
- 1:16Speaker 1: police officer, resisting arrest, and assault with a weapon. He
- 1:19Speaker 1: was helped for court. All fuel prices are down slightly
- 1:23Speaker 1: this morning. Gases down by just over a cent and
- 1:25Speaker 1: diesel is dropped by about two and a half cents.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Furnace oil on the island has decreased by just over
- 1:30Speaker 1: two cents, and stove oil in most of Labrador has
- 1:33Speaker 1: dropped by just under two cents. The provincial government has
- 1:37Speaker 1: increased the one time subsidy for those seeking fertility treatment.
- 1:41Speaker 1: The funding is being increased from twenty thousand to twenty
- 1:43Speaker 1: nine thousand dollars. Local obstetrician and Associate Professor of Obstetrics
- 1:48Speaker 1: and Gynecology at mun doctor Sean Murphy says anything to
- 1:51Speaker 1: help reduce barriers for those seeking fertility treatment is welcomed.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Anything we can do to kind of remove obstacles to
- 1:57Speaker 2: people accessing fertility care and good quality, high access to
- 2:00Speaker 2: fertility care is important and this will will help kind
- 2:04Speaker 2: of move things forward in that direction. It'll remove another
- 2:08Speaker 2: barrier to fertility care. And as we work towards heven
- 2:12Speaker 2: IVF in our own problems, we'll continue to work with
- 2:13Speaker 2: the minister in our team and I like just to
- 2:15Speaker 2: deliver that care here in province. But in the meantime,
- 2:18Speaker 2: it's a fantastic investment in families of our problems.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Doctor Diana Murphy with mun's Obstetrics and Gynecology Department cause
- 2:24Speaker 1: the funding increase a good step forward.
- 2:26Speaker 3: I mean the ultimate goal for us would be the
- 2:28Speaker 3: offer to treatment here in New for Land. Traveling for
- 2:31Speaker 3: IVF treatment is still quite stressful being a wife from
- 2:33Speaker 3: your support system, but I think it's a great step
- 2:36Speaker 3: forward in allowing the treatments to come here. And with
- 2:39Speaker 3: the work we've been doing with the current government and
- 2:43Speaker 3: previous governments as well, I think slowly we get further
- 2:47Speaker 3: closer and closer to having that here, which I think
- 2:49Speaker 3: is great for our patients and it's I mean, it's
- 2:51Speaker 3: been the ultimate goal of both of us and other
- 2:53Speaker 3: doctors in the past of breaking the service here, so
- 2:57Speaker 3: I think it is a great step forward.
- 3:00Speaker 1: News. I'm Richard Duggan.
