- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take, where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It all starts right now. Welcome back to the Three O Take
- 0:16presented by Chinook Cedry this episode 5 and 91, I'll be your
- 0:21host, Kyle Corwin. I'm here with Josh in the
- 0:24corner. Josh in the corner, no longer in
- 0:29the corner. At least for today, Nate is out
- 0:35struggling. Oh, struggling.
- 0:38I won't, I won't go into details, but he's, he's, he's at
- 0:42a conference and we'll just say that, you know.
- 0:50When in Rome? When in Rome, I guess.
- 0:52So he's he's he's laying low, he's in bed early trying to
- 1:00sleep some things off, I guess, but he sent me his thoughts on
- 1:05what we're really going to be getting into here right off the
- 1:08top, the Cody Bellinger news. But before we do that, I just
- 1:13want it on record so that that when it happens, we can come
- 1:17back to this moment. I, I told you Josh before we
- 1:23before we hopped on that I had AI had a strong feeling that
- 1:26something was going to happen during this recording.
- 1:29And I still stand by that. And mere seconds after I said
- 1:33that. No, we'll go minutes, mere
- 1:35minutes after I said that. Maybe minutes?
- 1:39Something maybe a minute after I said that, some things started
- 1:44started heating up a little bit on the on the trade rumor wire a
- 1:49little bit. So we shall see.
- 1:52But welcome. Welcome, everyone.
- 1:55Welcome, Josh. Welcome from being out of the
- 1:58corner. Yeah, Glad, glad to have you
- 2:00here. Big screen.
- 2:02Big screen. How about that?
- 2:04Let's get into this. Cody Bellinger talk Belly and
- 2:08the Yankees in agreement on a five year, 162 and a half,
- 2:11$1,000,000 contract. I'm glad this I'm I'm I'm glad
- 2:16this is over. This was one of the most
- 2:20pointless standoffs I think we've seen in in recent memory.
- 2:25Like it I I, I don't believe unless that belly waited this
- 2:33out until mid February when the dodgers presumably would have
- 2:37just gone and snagged him. I think this that's what I'm
- 2:43saying. This is just one of the more the
- 2:45more pointless standoffs I've remembered in recent memory,
- 2:48because this is where Cody Bellinger was going to start
- 2:512026. This is where certainly felt
- 2:55that way. This is, yeah, this is where he
- 2:57was going to start at least the next four years.
- 3:02There was no question. And and the posturing from Boris
- 3:06with the seven years, no, he was never getting 7 years.
- 3:11I mean no disrespect to the 2019 MVP, but he was never getting
- 3:15seven years. So the Yankees credit, hey, you
- 3:18know what tip of the cap credit, credit to the Yanks for, for
- 3:24standing strong on that front. Sticking it back to Boris a
- 3:27little bit, I guess. And now we're we're capping it
- 3:30at 5 and they're like, OK, we'll, we'll, we'll meet you at
- 3:365. And so the deal, the details of
- 3:41the deal, what we know now or that it includes opt outs after
- 3:45the second and third season, $20 million signing bonus and a full
- 3:49no trade clause. Josh in the corner, how do you
- 3:53feel about this? I, I'm, I'm surprised I thought
- 3:56the Yankees would get aggressive here because I felt like they
- 4:01almost had to. This is the signing they
- 4:03absolutely had to have. Aggressive as in?
- 4:08I I thought they. Would pay.
- 4:09Yeah, I thought they would go aava little bit higher.
- 4:12We heard rumors of of of 37 million and I'm like, yeah, you
- 4:18know, I I don't know who they were up against.
- 4:20It felt like no one, it felt like specifically because he
- 4:25just wanted to stay there and they were just trying to get
- 4:29more out of the Yankees. So I, I, I, OK, in the group
- 4:34chat, I put this out there, right?
- 4:35They say that, they say that one WAR, F WAR is worth $8 million
- 4:40on the free agent market. In the last three years he's
- 4:44averaged, I think it what, what was it, $3.8 million or 3.8 WAR?
- 4:48I'm sorry. It was like a four and then a
- 4:50two and then a four or something like that.
- 4:52So on average, like he's worth around 30 million, if that, if
- 4:56that holds up like, however it whatever that was like almost
- 5:00for almost for war or something like that.
- 5:03So 32,000,032 and a half million a year, not that far off there.
- 5:09So I, I don't feel like they had to go like when we're looking at
- 5:14Bichette signing for 42,000,000, right?
- 5:16And we're looking at Kyle Tucker for 57.
- 5:19We're not in that realm of of things.
- 5:24So I don't feel like I don't feel like they had to go
- 5:26astronomically too far, especially only going five years
- 5:29now if they had gone 7 then that he's kind of come down a little.
- 5:36Bit sure, yeah. I mean, I don't, I don't, I
- 5:38don't think they needed to get in a bidding war with
- 5:40themselves. And I think they knew that.
- 5:42And I, like I said, credit to him for, for holding strong on
- 5:46that because we all know Boris can be a little bit of a bully.
- 5:50And you know what? I I think the Yankees finally,
- 5:54because I feel like we've seen we haven't seen much of A
- 5:56backbone from the Yankees in recent years, or at least
- 6:00specifically the front office. Good on them for for old and
- 6:06strong. Do you have Nate's thoughts?
- 6:08I'm really eager. Yeah, no, I just pulled him up.
- 6:12Nothing extensive. I just told you 3 quick
- 6:13thoughts. He's he really must be hurting
- 6:15because he I saw he was he was typing for a good good while and
- 6:21then it just went away and then he just shot ME3 bullet points.
- 6:25He said glad first point, glad it's only five years.
- 6:29Second point they're probably going to trade for a starting
- 6:32now. Third, the new the news cured my
- 6:35hangover so well. There.
- 6:39He he said it, not me. So he's the one that put it out
- 6:42there. That is ultimately why Nate
- 6:45couldn't make an appearance. We were going to try to phone
- 6:47him in. I did have the idea right before
- 6:48you opt on. It's like, hey, maybe we try to
- 6:49phone Nate in. And then he said he was already
- 6:52in bed. So alas, here we are sans Nate.
- 6:55But those are thoughts on the deal.
- 6:59I I'll be honest with you, I didn't know how he was going to
- 7:01respond to this deal. I didn't.
- 7:04Had he mentioned before that he particularly wanted belly, or
- 7:08that he cared all that much if he ended up in in the Bronx or
- 7:13Queens or wherever whoever was else was potentially in on him?
- 7:18I feel like most of the I don't with him, I'm not really sure,
- 7:21but I feel like most Yankee fans were just kind of like, I'm not
- 7:24even thinking about it 'cause that has to get done and then we
- 7:27want something else. You know what?
- 7:28I mean, it's kind of like us with Bregman.
- 7:31It's like it's like that's not you can't even I was.
- 7:34So yeah, I guess, I guess I understand it from that point of
- 7:37view from Yankee fans. Or it's like it's it's not even
- 7:39really an addition because we just he's already here in our
- 7:42minds. The same thing was with Bregman.
- 7:43It was like you can't call Bregman your middle of the order
- 7:48big bad edition because he was just here.
- 7:52So it's Bregman and then what else?
- 7:54And then for Yankee fans, I'm sure it's OK.
- 7:56It's belly and then what else? Same with Schwarber and Philly.
- 8:01Exactly. Yeah, Although I guess I don't
- 8:03know, maybe that was a little different because I don't know,
- 8:09I feel like, I feel like his interest was being pulled or
- 8:14attention, I should say. His attention was being pulled
- 8:17from all sorts of directions. I don't know that we could say
- 8:19the same for Belly, I don't think.
- 8:23Feel that way? Yeah, it didn't feel that way.
- 8:25I don't know what Boris was, what strings Boris was pulling
- 8:27behind the behind the scenes, but it did not feel like the
- 8:33same market really at all existed for Bellinger in that
- 8:36sense. But you know.
- 8:40We have a deal by the way, passing hit refresh.
- 8:43Hold on, hold on. We have a deal.
- 8:46Was that right? The New York Mets have acquired
- 8:51you want. Me to go with it.
- 8:52I'm hitting refresh. Where is it?
- 8:53Passing Freddy Peralta, there it is.
- 9:01What a call, what a call, what a call.
- 9:11And almost, almost overnight, it seems like, it seems like we.
- 9:19And when I say we, I won't loop you into this, but I feel like
- 9:22Nate and myself have to eat crow.
- 9:25I feel as though the Mets have really shoved it back in her
- 9:29face because I feel like even, well, no, let me let me clarify.
- 9:35This is just speaking for myself.
- 9:36I'll, I'll let Nate address it at a later time if he chooses.
- 9:41I still stand by the fact that I feel like it's directionless
- 9:44spending 100. Percent.
- 9:47However, and obviously this is a trade, this wasn't even
- 9:50spending, but this is more so in relation to Bichette and things
- 9:53like that. Because like you and I were
- 9:54talking about guys playing out of position that like the, and,
- 9:59and my point was the roster that they've constructed is, is the
- 10:04type of roster you would expect to see in late September when
- 10:07guys are banged up and you're just trying to make it to the
- 10:09finish line of, of getting things started with the
- 10:12postseason. You're like, hey, some guys may
- 10:13have to slide over to some new positions.
- 10:16They're like, now let's just roll with what we've got for
- 10:19opening day. But while I think it is still
- 10:26directionless a little bit, they're they're at least
- 10:30addressing some holes. They needed an arm.
- 10:35Yeah, I was going to say, I think it's safe to say this is
- 10:37probably the best fit of of their recent moves.
- 10:40Yeah, yeah, yeah. So I mean it's.
- 10:43One we talked about. Yeah, we still got another name
- 10:47to to get into, but they they are addressing, they're
- 10:50addressing holes at the very least.
- 10:52Now if the now it's a whole another topic of discussion, if
- 10:58these are even good fits, if there's if there's going to be
- 11:01chemistry that that is created from this.
- 11:03It's hard, it's hard to tell. I this is a hodgepodge bunch,
- 11:07but you can add Freddy Peralta to that mix.
- 11:10But let's let some let's let some some details of that
- 11:15trickle in. Let's let's switch to the name
- 11:18that I was prepared to talk about next.
- 11:23Great, great transition here given the news.
- 11:25Luis Robert Junior, the New York Mets.
- 11:28Was this yesterday? They just starting to run
- 11:30together. Was this was this last night?
- 11:32Yeah. I.
- 11:33Must feel like it was earlier today, but it might have been
- 11:37last night. Or was it today I.
- 11:39Feel like it might have been today.
- 11:42No, this was yesterday. This was yesterday.
- 11:44Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, this was yesterday.
- 11:46Mets acquired Luis Robert in a trade with the White Sox.
- 11:53Another situation, another scenario in which I'm glad it's
- 11:57just, it's it's done, it's over. Because this was just a this was
- 12:04a, a situation where I feel like we've heard Louise Roberts name
- 12:10for the last three years being floated out there and I'm like,
- 12:15I don't care. He could he could end up with
- 12:19the Yankees, he could end up with the Mets, he could end up
- 12:22with the Marlins. I don't care.
- 12:24I just want them to get out of Chicago so we can stop talking
- 12:27about it. Otherwise, keep them put and
- 12:31just keep them there. Like I've the, the, the floating
- 12:35conversation got to be just too much.
- 12:37So I'm glad they finally cut ties going back to Chicago in
- 12:44the return Luis Angelicuna and right-hander Truman Pauley.
- 12:51I think he was like a 12th round pick last year. 12th round pick
- 12:54at a Harvard I I don't really know what grade to give this
- 13:05trade because you have to look you you have you know it I know
- 13:12I know I know you're going to jump immediately on the fact
- 13:16that he's just not healthy I'm going.
- 13:19To I wasn't going there yet, but it's coming.
- 13:21I'm going to take the positive route and choose to look at the
- 13:26ceiling that exists. It's relatively high when all
- 13:32things, you know, when all things all things clicking, it's
- 13:38you're getting a star player when when he's right, which
- 13:44happened. Once.
- 13:45Like I said, though, I know you're going to, you're going to
- 13:48drill down on the on the lack of health.
- 13:52However, like we were talking about before I hopped on, I'm a
- 13:55big believer in the change of scenery and I and, and not just
- 13:58from a performance standpoint. I think I mean, ultimately
- 14:00that's, that's what everything funnels down to at the end of
- 14:04the day is what you're, you know, what you're able to
- 14:06produce on the field. But a change of scenery can
- 14:09impact in, in my mind, in my guesstimation, a lot of things.
- 14:13I think it can impact, you know, your confidence.
- 14:17I think it can impact your outlook on a given season.
- 14:21It can impact your, your, the way you look back on the
- 14:25previous season, even like if if you struggled last year, but
- 14:28you're like, all right, hit the reset button, hit the refresh
- 14:31button a little bit and let's, let's you know, let's fix the
- 14:35issue. Let's figure out what went
- 14:36wrong. Get with the new new coaching
- 14:40staff, a new training staff, even if if health is in fact an
- 14:43issue, Maybe get some get some things ironed out, identify some
- 14:46things that maybe your previous organization couldn't.
- 14:49And next thing you know, you're right back to where you were it
- 14:55at one point in your career. So I don't know, I'm going to
- 14:58I'm going to be optimistic about this deal for I mean, granted,
- 15:01it's the Mets. So hopefully he just doesn't get
- 15:04lumped into the Mets being Mets thing.
- 15:05But individually, in a vacuum, I'm looking at the the Luis
- 15:10Robert deal with with a good bit of optimism. 202338 Homers,
- 15:16Played 145 games. 5.3 WAR I mean that's that's the ceiling.
- 15:23That's where you want the guy to be.
- 15:25It's a 130 OPS plus. It's that's his last season was
- 15:30his first like was his most He played 110 games outside of
- 15:352023. So you want to look at the
- 15:37return where the White Sox are getting a draft pick from last
- 15:42year, which is a a flyer and Luis on Helicuna, who really
- 15:46hasn't been able to put it together yet.
- 15:48That doesn't mean he's not going to.
- 15:49He absolutely still good, but the return here is so much
- 15:54different than when we started hearing Luis Robert rumors.
- 15:57They knew they weren't going to be good in 24.
- 15:59They knew they weren't going to be good in 25.
- 16:02They missed a real opportunity to trade this guy and change the
- 16:08way their franchise would be looking, maybe even going into
- 16:122026 at this point. The White Sox saved $20 million.
- 16:18That's it, 22 million because there's a, because there's a
- 16:20buyout next year. That's all they did.
- 16:23I'll ask you, you think they spend that $20 million?
- 16:27No, probably not. So they're just saving it.
- 16:32Although I saw what's his, what's his name, Chris Getz, He
- 16:36said that they were going to be a, quote, aggressive.
- 16:38They're talking to multiple clubs now.
- 16:40I'm like about what hot dog vendor to switch to because I'm
- 16:44certain that it's not about personnel, although I will say,
- 16:48you know, inherent disrespect when talking about the the White
- 16:53Sox deserved respect. I would even say, however, I
- 16:58feel like they've got an interesting mix going into 2026.
- 17:02I'm not, I'm not like, I'm not thrilled about it, but I'm not,
- 17:09I'm not so down in the dumps as it relates to what the White Sox
- 17:13are are bringing to the table for Opening Day.
- 17:16There are some shadows of building blocks that you're
- 17:21going to start seeing showing up, you know, for that team.
- 17:28I don't know how much of it I, I think is, I don't know.
- 17:32I don't know how much of it is good now, but they're certainly,
- 17:38I mean, they've traded enough pieces, they've done enough
- 17:40things. They've been, you know, they've
- 17:41had the draft picks. There's going to be something
- 17:44that we're going to start seeing.
- 17:50Whether they finish it, whether they do anything with it is
- 17:53another question. It's all about what are they
- 17:56going to do to capitalize? And you see so many teams amass
- 18:00this pool of talent to do nothing with.
- 18:05Then they just become the farm, you know, the farm team for the
- 18:08rest of the league. And it's not just one team, one
- 18:10or two teams doing that. There.
- 18:11There are many teams that I feel like do that.
- 18:13And it's it's going, I mean, not that we have to go down this
- 18:16rabbit hole, but it goes back to the conversation of like, what
- 18:19is this CBA going to look like? What are these conversations
- 18:22going to look like? And the people, I don't know,
- 18:27man, people are just going to have to start pulling their
- 18:28weight like these owners. I, I don't know, I don't know
- 18:31what else there is to say. Like I don't know how many
- 18:33times, how many times I can say it.
- 18:35I don't know how many different ways I can say it, but that's
- 18:38the reality of it. How about the other side of this
- 18:41thing? I mean the fit with the Mets, so
- 18:47I will say this because you did mention like not not necessarily
- 18:50spending, but even trades are spending and this is actually a
- 18:54really good example of that, right?
- 18:56He's got a $20 million contract. The Mets are at the place with
- 18:58the luxury tax where the tax is 110%.
- 19:02So they're not paying $20 million for Luis Robert to to
- 19:05maybe work out they're paying $42 million for Luis Robert.
- 19:10It really when you, I mean he's not getting that money, but
- 19:12essentially it costs them $42 million.
- 19:15Is that that accurate? Is that, am I, am I there?
- 19:17I think so anyway. 40 Let me confirm.
- 19:22Yeah, 40. Yeah, because it's 100.
- 19:23It's because it's 110%. And then the same thing with
- 19:26Beau Bouchette. Like we're approaching 90
- 19:28million, like Beau Bouchette this year is costing them 88.2
- 19:32million and and he's going to play a position he's never
- 19:36played. That's sorry.
- 19:41I'm just getting this Peralta graphic out.
- 19:43No, but that's what I was saying like that you see the Louise
- 19:50Robert, you're like, oh, that's so nice.
- 19:51You see the Peralta trade now it's like, oh, that's nice.
- 19:54But then you, you go back to some of these more like
- 19:57literally 70 like what, 48 hours, 72 hours ago and you're
- 20:05going, this is this construction doesn't really make sense.
- 20:12But then you bring it and then it.
- 20:14But then on the flip side, you go back to my point about well,
- 20:16there now it seems like they're addressing some of the the more
- 20:19glaring holes that they needed to fix.
- 20:22And you bring in a guy like Louise Robert.
- 20:24Now you bring in a front end rotation guy and Freddy Peralta,
- 20:28albeit for a year. I don't know, 2026 isn't looking
- 20:34as dire or even head scratching as it did maybe 72 hours ago.
- 20:42Let. Me ask you this who hits more
- 20:46home runs this season, Peter or the combination of Bichette and
- 20:51Polanco? Is this like, is this like a
- 20:56Billy Bean Moneyball? Like let's create him in the
- 20:59aggregate situation, But I'm saying is this what you're
- 21:02asking me do? You think that there's a chance
- 21:04that Pete Alonso out homers the two corner infielders for the
- 21:08Mets in Polanco and Bichette that they've just acquired to
- 21:12replace one guy? I think there's a chance that if
- 21:15that if Peter hits 50, that both of these guys don't get to 25.
- 21:23Yeah. There's a chance that you know
- 21:26what I'm saying, Like they're and I and I, I don't know, I, I
- 21:29still question really. I think there's just weird
- 21:34things with this team, like why? It was personal.
- 21:37The guy, he was your franchise leader in home runs.
- 21:39It seemed like the most, like obvious thing to bring him back
- 21:44when you're just spending money to spend it.
- 21:47And, and I, I don't know why, Like, we just want to not like
- 21:50him. And when he's on the Mets,
- 21:51that's really easy. Well, I mean, a guy's just
- 21:55straight up cornball. I mean, there's no getting
- 21:57around it, but but yeah, man, All in all, though, this has
- 22:03been, this has been such a fascinating offseason for the
- 22:07Mets. I, there's really no other way
- 22:09to explain it. I I don't know.
- 22:13But like I said it like if, if this is where you call it,
- 22:17you're like, OK, that that was the last, last bullet we had in
- 22:21the chamber. It's like, that's a pretty good
- 22:25offseason. Now mind you, another guy that
- 22:29was tied to them for Amber Valdez is still out there.
- 22:37I don't. What's?
- 22:39Going on, I don't know. Oh, I think we very, very
- 22:45clearly know what's going on there.
- 22:46Did. You hear about the video.
- 22:50Did you ever know Framber Valdez put together a 20 minute
- 22:52punching somebody? No, no, he put together like a
- 22:5620 minute video of like who he is or something like that.
- 23:02And I feel like it's in direct relation to like this is how
- 23:05this is who I am. This is where I came from.
- 23:08This is how I was raised. This is how I did made it to
- 23:11this spot in that spot. And it almost feels like they're
- 23:14trying to like him and his camp are trying to maybe I don't
- 23:19know. I don't want.
- 23:19I don't. Want to say image repair?
- 23:21Yeah, it just seems. Yes, absolutely, because there
- 23:24has to be some sort of hesitance from these clubs to say I don't
- 23:30know how far I want to go with this.
- 23:32The guy just drilled his catcher this year and there's been other
- 23:36things said. It's so easy.
- 23:38I feel like for somebody to look at that and be like, come on,
- 23:41man, you're going to, you're not going to sign this guy.
- 23:44You're not going to pay this guy the money that he's asking for
- 23:47because of that incident. It's like, yeah, I'm not going
- 23:50to minimize that incident when you have to take into account
- 23:55that this guy's going to be around the rest of your ball
- 23:57club for 162 plus games. For how many years too?
- 24:02That's not something you can just brush under the rug like
- 24:06that's, you know, that's a big that's a big character thing,
- 24:09man. And like, I get it.
- 24:10I fuses can be short. You you lose patience, but you
- 24:15don't you don't take it out on your guy in that sense.
- 24:19Like even if it was a scuffle and a dugout, whatever that
- 24:24happens all the time, don't care.
- 24:26I'm not that wouldn't if if I'm the one with the checkbook,
- 24:30that's not impacting my decision on whether or not to bring in
- 24:32framework because guys do that all the time because you're
- 24:35around each other more than your own family.
- 24:37Like, of course you're going to get into it, but to do it the
- 24:41way to to let that display of frustration play out the way
- 24:44that it did. Yeah, I'm going to.
- 24:46That's if, if I'm that, like I said, if I'm the guy with the
- 24:49checkbook, that's absolutely impacting my decision because
- 24:52that's just not, that's not something you can take lightly.
- 24:55That video's crazy too because he looks cold after he hits him.
- 25:00Just turns his back on him. Oh yeah, man, that was, that was
- 25:03sick. But yeah, I don't know, man.
- 25:10At the same time, in the last four years, only Logan Webb has
- 25:14thrown more innings than Framer Valdez.
- 25:15And he's got like a 320 ERA over those four years.
- 25:20So somebody's got to be like, listen, we got to just fit.
- 25:23You got to believe in in your club to be able to figure it out
- 25:27because we need that guy on the mound.
- 25:30But it does. Until the Peralta trade, it had
- 25:32the Mets written all. Over Oh, yeah, Oh, yeah.
- 25:35That. And honestly, I'm, I don't know
- 25:37that I can rule it out because that seems, that seems like a
- 25:42perfect fit for the hodgepodge bunch that is the New York Mets,
- 25:48a talented bunch. But let's just, you know, let's
- 25:52just call it what it is. It's a hodgepodge bunch.
- 25:55I would say that personally I would root for, I'd root for the
- 26:01sport to get him on to a club that can maybe calm that down or
- 26:08or whatever and and make it a non issue anymore and then let
- 26:12him go out and just be the dude. Yeah, like, I'm not, I, I, I
- 26:18hope that when people hear me say that they're not looking at
- 26:22them like, oh, Kyle's just done with him.
- 26:23It's like, well, I, I wasn't thrilled about it.
- 26:26And I, again, I think it's an important thing that needs to
- 26:29be, you know, considered and addressed.
- 26:32But I'm also not going to just write the guy off completely.
- 26:35Like if he can go out and and sort of show like, hey, that,
- 26:38you know, not not my brightest moment and like you said, go out
- 26:42and be a dude for somebody else and provide meaningful
- 26:47contributions to a team that can go on and do something, that's
- 26:52cool, that's fine with me. 32. I would root for that.
- 26:57If you give him I, I mean, at this point, I, I'd feel good
- 27:01about four years, but it's just all a matter of fact is like you
- 27:06got to hear the the Morgan Freeman.
- 27:08I'm a I'm a rehabilitative man. Yeah, that's going to Yeah,
- 27:15that's such an interesting situation for him.
- 27:17It's like he he wasn't swept up in like a a cheating scandal.
- 27:21He wasn't busted for beds. It's like you would presumably
- 27:27hear it from fans, but if if you had no idea like as to the back
- 27:33story of what happened, you'd like why?
- 27:35If you're just like a new baseball fan, you're at the
- 27:37ball, you're at the ballpark and you're like, why?
- 27:39Why are we booing this guy and having to explain that
- 27:42situation? It's it's just going to be a an
- 27:45interesting an interesting thing.
- 27:49Speaking of booing, I saw I saw some Phillies fans bringing it
- 27:54back to the Phillies here real quick because I don't want to I
- 27:58don't want to give them the pass.
- 28:00I saw some people, some Phillies fans talking about how they're
- 28:03they plan to Boo Beau Bichette going back to the Bichette
- 28:08thing, they plan to Boo him whenever they cross paths.
- 28:13And I'm like, he was never a Philly.
- 28:17It this wasn't this wasn't show, hey tracking a flight to Toronto
- 28:25caliber news. You know, like this was just the
- 28:29Phillies thought they had a done deal.
- 28:30Bo, like you and I were talking about.
- 28:32I think I I'm going to give everybody the benefit of the
- 28:35doubt and assume that everybody had the best of intentions going
- 28:39into that night, that evening where we all think that Bo's
- 28:44waking up a Philly and then here comes Uncle Stevie from the
- 28:48clouds swooping them up. It's like, OK, why are we what's
- 28:56with booing Bichette? And then that that leads to a,
- 29:00a, a bigger point of discussion here with Dave Dombrowski in the
- 29:05aftermath of the Bichette or missing out on Bichette.
- 29:09I, I should say, but he was quoted as saying we're content
- 29:14with where we are. And this falls in line, I think
- 29:18with the Bichette situation, the Louise Robert Junior situation,
- 29:23because they were, they've been tied, Louise Roberts been tied
- 29:25to the Phillies and vice versa for the last 2-3 years.
- 29:31To be fair, he's been tied to a lot of teams.
- 29:33That's fair. But Philly just seems like a
- 29:36fit, Like a a fit that actually made sense and not just a team
- 29:39that, you know, wanted to express their interest,
- 29:44something the Red Sox love to do.
- 29:46The, the quote, though, we're content with where we are.
- 29:51How did, how are you feeling about that?
- 29:55Because the way I, the way that I read that is how, how content
- 30:00can you really be if you were trying to bring in Bichette's
- 30:05bat. Right.
- 30:07I've, I've heard some, I've heard some of Phillies fans kind
- 30:11of wondering if Bichette was the right fit in the 1st place.
- 30:15A little concerned about third base in general and what that
- 30:19did to their infield. It's still the bat is still so
- 30:23much better than what they have bombs on.
- 30:25The last year of his deal, it still made a lot of sense to do
- 30:28it. And that's just one guy I don't
- 30:32know. I I don't know.
- 30:33I think they've got a situation there where they have a really
- 30:38good team that just continues to fall just short.
- 30:44And it's not like they're returning everyone here.
- 30:46They are losing Ranger Suarez in that rotation.
- 30:51If they're literally not what what is what is the additions is
- 30:54are there any now? I don't think so.
- 30:56They still need a right-handed bat in the outfield.
- 30:58But are they just going with Rojas?
- 31:00They got they got Adolis Garcia right, which I feel like just
- 31:05gets a lost and yeah, and the news of this winter.
- 31:09Well he had a down year last year too, so it it doesn't feel
- 31:13as impactful. Yeah, bring back Schwarber.
- 31:18Trey still there, obviously Bryce still there.
- 31:20Boom is up in the air. I Who's there?
- 31:23Right now, you know what I mean. Yeah.
- 31:25But that's what I'm saying, who's to really say if he's
- 31:27going to be there opening day? Like I could easily see Davey D
- 31:32I mean, I don't he I don't think he he succumbs to fan pressure
- 31:37very much. But with the way that this
- 31:40offseason is gone and seeing his other NL counterparts just doing
- 31:44what they've been doing, I could easily see him making AI don't.
- 31:48I won't go as far as I called a panic move, but I could see him
- 31:52just trying to get one last deal in before the before the buzzer
- 31:55if you will, and maybe flipping him for for something because I
- 31:59mean could use a third baseman, but I don't know if if that
- 32:03ends. Up getting donned and.
- 32:04If it doesn't, OK, that's another piece that you've had
- 32:07for the last handful of years that's coming back where you
- 32:10weren't able to really shake up positionally.
- 32:14What about like a? What about like a poker?
- 32:16Face like what if this is just a we're content where we are we
- 32:18don't need to make a move and and yet you've had some
- 32:21conversations maybe earlier in the winter or something with a
- 32:24team about 1/3 baseman and you'd send Boehm the other way to take
- 32:29third base there. But there would also be some
- 32:32prospects on the way over as well.
- 32:34So maybe you kick start those conversations back up third
- 32:37baseman for 3rd baseman. I'll throw a few prospects your
- 32:40way for this guy who has control or is under contract or
- 32:44something like that. And maybe just play and like
- 32:47we'll go into the year with Boehm, but I don't know then.
- 32:52I mean, maybe, but it's it's. Just tone deaf to me like you
- 32:56miss out on Bichette, you miss Well, I don't remember.
- 32:59I don't was the quote after the Louise Robert deal?
- 33:04I I'm not sure, but it's like you you missed out on a couple
- 33:08guys that I think fans were really hoping for.
- 33:10I'm sure the front office were was hoping for, but you just
- 33:16don't like, even if you feel that way, like if you're trying
- 33:20to, you know, pause yourself for the rest of the league and and
- 33:22not, you know, show your hand fine, but don't.
- 33:29You don't say that at this. Point in time or.
- 33:34Maybe nothing good. Can come out of that maybe
- 33:37unless unless you are absolutely to your point, if you if you if
- 33:40you have a move up your sleeve, unless you are absolutely
- 33:44certain that you can make that happen.
- 33:46And it has to be I would venture to say it has to be soon for
- 33:49people to not really, you know, put too much stock into this
- 33:53comment because I feel like this is a pretty that's that's that's
- 33:58a tough line to drop. Well, it would get down to the
- 34:01wire anyway. Soon is gonna happen when we're
- 34:03we're getting there. But the other end of this,
- 34:06maybe, maybe there is a a point where he's not confident that he
- 34:10can get a deal done and he just wants to instill that confidence
- 34:14in Bone because he knows we failed and we need him to step
- 34:19up. The last thing I want him coming
- 34:20into spring thinking is that we spent the whole winter trying to
- 34:24trade him. They were doing that last.
- 34:26Year I know, so there's no confidence.
- 34:29You can. Instill in this guy like any any
- 34:33any any like significant contributions you're going to
- 34:37get from him. It's going to be out of spite.
- 34:41It's not going to be because while Davey D really believes in
- 34:45me, he's decided to stick with, stick with me this year.
- 34:47It's like, no, you were very. You are very.
- 34:50Clearly on the way. Out and we just hit a couple
- 34:53snags and some some guys ended up going elsewhere that we are
- 34:56open to bring in third base is is.
- 35:00Is tough right now. There's not a lot out there.
- 35:04I mean, even when people are saying that they missed out on
- 35:08Moncada, that's a bad, that's a bad free agent class.
- 35:12So it it. Has to be.
- 35:14Trade, right? I mean, it would almost have to
- 35:16be I guess the other angle you could say is, well, if we just
- 35:19pay boom this year and then every we don't have a 2027, then
- 35:24we're covered. But the Phillies also can just
- 35:26pivot and or can punt on third base and they can compete in
- 35:31free agency next year because they just always can.
- 35:34I don't know, maybe Bo opts out and not have another chance.
- 35:39Maybe. But.
- 35:41You know, I, I feel like there's, there are way worse
- 35:46options, yeah. To go into. 2026 with a third
- 35:51base and Alec Baum, like I, I hear what you're saying about
- 35:54like punting, but Phillies, you talk to some Phillies fans and
- 35:58you're like, this guy is the worst.
- 36:01It's like relax, like he's going to be serviceable.
- 36:04He's going to he's he's been through the ringer in Philly.
- 36:09We'll just say that like he's yes, he's had.
- 36:12A a tough. Go of it, but I think All in
- 36:14all, he the fact that he's he's still standing, the fact that
- 36:17he's ready to, I guess lace up for another year in in the bank
- 36:24like I, I don't know, but I wouldn't be I wouldn't be all
- 36:29that disappointed. I if I'm a Phillies fan, sure,
- 36:31I'd be disappointed if you thought maybe this was the year
- 36:34you finally get a, a fresh face in at 3rd and and maybe somebody
- 36:37who's significantly better. But if I'm a Phillies fan, I'm
- 36:41not. I'm not like losing sleep over
- 36:44the fact that this is your third baseman.
- 36:46Nope, I'm with you. Any news?
- 36:51All right, we. Covered.
- 36:52Cody, we covered Lubob, we covered Framber.
- 37:01Do we cover Peralta at? At enough at enough length, I
- 37:05know we're waiting for some things to trickle in, but I
- 37:07haven't seen much. Yeah, it looks like the return I
- 37:10mean. You could talk about the Brewers
- 37:11here. I mean, this is the team who won
- 37:12the most games in in baseball last year.
- 37:16They're getting Jet Williams, a shortstop prospect, and Brandon
- 37:19Sprout. I'm not really sure.
- 37:22I'm not familiar with Brandon Sprout so I will look.
- 37:25Him up but. Looks like he debuted last year.
- 37:31Pitcher started four games for the Mets, 20 innings, You know
- 37:37what I mean? So I don't, I don't know, I
- 37:39don't know what his deal is. I haven't I haven't followed
- 37:42him. I think I do recognize him that
- 37:44now that I see his baseball reference picture.
- 37:47And the pronunciation on baseball reference.
- 37:49Actually says rhymes with boat. Love that rhymes with.
- 37:56Anyway, yeah, I don't know. I mean, knowing the Brewers
- 38:00close in in my division here, he's probably going to win a Cy
- 38:04Young this year. That's just what they do with
- 38:06all their acquisitions. It's absolutely ridiculous.
- 38:10I would imagine he's probably in the fan graphs is pretty quick
- 38:14with this stuff. I bet they've got him in the
- 38:16rotation already. They don't.
- 38:20They don't even. Have him on the.
- 38:22On the roster, so I I don't really know, but man, you just
- 38:25laid 1. You just laid.
- 38:26One up there for fan graphs and they said, well they have
- 38:28Peralta. They have Peralta already in the
- 38:31Mets rotation. OK, so I wasn't.
- 38:33Sure, they have him in. AAA he's he's on the he's on the
- 38:36roster there 25 years old and and Jet Williams is not on the
- 38:4240 man yet. He's still 22 but big prospect
- 38:45so I'm sure he'll. Be a superstar.
- 38:48Like I said, every, everybody that they do this, I mean, Caleb
- 38:51Durbin comes over from the Yankees and tears up, gets
- 38:56Rookie of the year votes. It's what they do.
- 38:59It's what they do in Milwaukee. Some kind of devil magic up
- 39:03there. So I I actually can't, I don't
- 39:05have it in me to doubt the moves that they make because it always
- 39:09comes back in my face. Yeah, it's tough when you're.
- 39:16I mean no disrespect, it's tough when you're a pirate's guy and
- 39:18you're constantly, you're constantly punching up.
- 39:21You know, that's yeah, that's tough.
- 39:24But I respect you for for taking the shots that you do take
- 39:27because I know that's a tough spot to be.
- 39:29It's. You know you're the laughing
- 39:32stock of baseball right now. It's it's the.
- 39:36It's the weirdest. Feeling, because I do feel like
- 39:38when I'm talking to most people, I'm like, defending my team, but
- 39:42then when we're talking about our team, we're yelling at them.
- 39:45So, like, you kids, like you can't make fun of my brother.
- 39:48Only I can make fun of my brother.
- 39:49Exactly. Yeah.
- 39:51I feel that, I feel. That Let's talk.
- 39:58Couple items here. Closing the book.
- 40:02Hall of Fame Carlos Beltran Andrew Jones joining Jeff Kent I
- 40:12I'm not going to lie, I completely forgot Jeff Kent got
- 40:15voted in what I. Was going through and I was
- 40:19like. Reading, reading more into it.
- 40:21I'm like, Oh yeah, Jeff Kent's going to be there in July.
- 40:24Class of 20. 26 I was I'm I'm I'm indifferent about the
- 40:31Beltran news. I was I was pumped for Andrew
- 40:33Jones. Man, I feel like this is a guy
- 40:35that. I just feel like.
- 40:40This took way longer than it needed to and I and the one of
- 40:46the thing, one of the talking points I always come back to
- 40:48with Andrew Jones is and, and I know Gold Gloves have lost
- 40:54meaning over the years, unfortunately.
- 40:59But his story, yeah. Such a great award.
- 41:01The trophy itself is fantastic, but it just means nothing now.
- 41:05And it's sadly but historically players with at least 400 homers
- 41:10and 10 Gold Gloves in Major League history.
- 41:13Willie Mays, Mike Schmidt, Andrew Jones and Ken Griffey,
- 41:18junior. And we had to wait.
- 41:24And we had to wait this thing out.
- 41:26Yeah. Yep.
- 41:29Yeah, what are you fact checking me here?
- 41:32No, no. I.
- 41:34Was fact checking me because I was about to say and maybe
- 41:37someday Nolan Arenado. He does have tangled gloves.
- 41:39I thought he did, but. He could get to that 400 Homer.
- 41:44Mark 2 What's he at 3:50? 3.
- 41:48Wow. Yeah.
- 41:51So listen, center field is the position on the field.
- 41:58I know you could make a case for shortstop, you could make a case
- 42:01for catcher. That's for different reasons.
- 42:04Center field, I mean, Ken Griffey, junior, Willie Mays,
- 42:08it's the whole thing since 1980. It's junior, it's Puckett.
- 42:13Is that right? And it's Andre Dawson who played
- 42:17some some center field. That's literally it.
- 42:21Going into the Hall of Fame since 1980.
- 42:25How are how are like? Where's?
- 42:27Kenny Lofton, let's get him in. Are you for that?
- 42:36I admittedly I'd have to take a closer.
- 42:38I don't, I don't want to. I just want to throw that.
- 42:40Out there, I'll put you on the spot.
- 42:41There I'd have to take a. Closer look at the.
- 42:43Numbers So I, I mean, Kenny is near and dear to my heart
- 42:45because I mean, this is we're talking, we're getting into it's
- 42:48sad, man, Like we're we're now getting into like our era of
- 42:51guys that we like we grew up like watching all the time,
- 42:56going to see like it's man, we're getting old.
- 42:59But where was I going with that? Oh, the, the biggest hang up
- 43:05that I feel like a lot of the writers had was, you know, we'll
- 43:09talk about the decline in the back end of his career.
- 43:11It's like pick a lane, like right.
- 43:14If, if a guy doesn't play long enough to amass the counting
- 43:18stats, then how are you going to penalize a guy that sticks
- 43:23around? What you consider too long?
- 43:26Like what, what like what's, what's the, what's the secret
- 43:31sauce? Like what's the, what's the
- 43:32recipe? How many years is a guy supposed
- 43:34to be in the league for these writers to be like, OK, this is,
- 43:38this is the sweet spot that we're looking at the we can vote
- 43:42this guy in with 100% confidence now because he played the right
- 43:45amount of years. It's like I, I he was clearly
- 43:49good enough to be employed by a Major League team and not to
- 43:52mention was one of the best to do it for a good portion of his
- 43:56career. So what do we like?
- 43:57What what took so long? He had less games.
- 44:00But he had some still decent numbers later in his career.
- 44:04But you know, Jaws baseball reference uses Jaws and all that
- 44:07stuff for Hall of Fame standards and, and things like that.
- 44:12And I mean, they use the, the seven-year, what is it, 7 year
- 44:17peak, seven-year peak of 46.4 WAR and the average Hall of Fame
- 44:23center fielder 44.6. There's a lot of numbers that
- 44:27favor that. It's the longevity ones that he
- 44:30falls a little bit short of, but still 62.7 WAR.
- 44:35It was a, it was a, a good peak where he was.
- 44:41One of the best the. The question I had in the in the
- 44:44thing that gave me pause and I always thought that Andrew Jones
- 44:47should be in, but like there is that star factor.
- 44:50This is the Hall of Fame. And so there's got to be a time
- 44:54when as one of the criteria to get in where you felt like he
- 44:58was the best player or one of the best players while he was
- 45:02playing. And I think that that's a tough
- 45:04thing for a lot of people because he often wasn't the best
- 45:08player on his own team and that that was hard.
- 45:11And so because he got outshined that it.
- 45:15May and not to. Mention on his own team, but in
- 45:18center field, playing at the same time as Ken Griffey junior
- 45:22and so like, he got outshined quite a bit, but you've got to.
- 45:27Be able to get past. That at some point like he's
- 45:29he's still was considered at least.
- 45:31I mean, you would have thought, right, he's one of the better
- 45:35center fielders in the League, One of the best.
- 45:39That's got to be part of this. I I, I don't know where we I
- 45:43don't know where we get lost in that and I don't I the center.
- 45:48Field thing really. Kind of gets to me.
- 45:49Is is all of a sudden there's two center fielders.
- 45:52I don't know. I think that there is some
- 45:55writers who use things like this to.
- 46:03Like to push it down the. Line Well, if we let him in
- 46:06right away, then that means this other guy that's playing right
- 46:09now is going to get in for sure. And I don't want him to feel
- 46:11like that. And I just feel like there's too
- 46:14much of that kind of stuff that is like, is he a Hall of Famer
- 46:18or not? Why are we waiting eight years?
- 46:19I've been saying that forever. Like the, the, the strategy, the
- 46:23fact that they're, that these writers have to have a strategy
- 46:27for making sure they get the right ballot or the right votes
- 46:30on their ballot before a certain time runs.
- 46:33It's like, I understand having a guy on a ballot for X amount of
- 46:37years and, and wanting to ensure that you're, you're dispersing
- 46:40your, your, you know, spreading your votes out the right way.
- 46:44But is there not a better system to where it can, it can just
- 46:50dwindle down to the simple question of is this guy a Hall
- 46:53of Famer or not? And not will I still feel like
- 46:57this guy's a Hall of Famer in five years so that I can use
- 47:00this time, Oh my goodness, from now until then to divvy up some
- 47:03more votes. It's like just just put a guy in
- 47:07if he's a Hall of Famer and Andrew, for me, a guy like
- 47:09Andrew Jones was and is a Hall of Famer.
- 47:12I don't know. I don't know.
- 47:14Yeah, on the flip side, on the flip side.
- 47:17Where are we at on Beltran? I I want to know like this.
- 47:22We're talking it's. It it needs to.
- 47:23Be said right we're talking about a guy who was the not only
- 47:26just involved in a trash can sign stealing deal.
- 47:34Why I couldn't think about scandal scandal.
- 47:36Thank you. I was I was trying to give you
- 47:39a. Chance to.
- 47:40Figure it. Out.
- 47:41He'll get it someday. But like this is this is the
- 47:45guy. Who was like the front runner?
- 47:46He was the leader of the whole thing.
- 47:48He was the only one that was really called out by name.
- 47:51He he he was hired as a manager and let go as soon as this thing
- 47:54broke. So this is a guy that is right
- 47:58in the middle of something that was clearly cheating.
- 48:03Where are you at on that? Because I think this is like a
- 48:06integrity is part of the voting and I don't know man, like
- 48:12especially if and it had to happen, somebody didn't vote for
- 48:16Bonds and a Rod and those types of guys and put in a vote for
- 48:19him. I don't know man, like I've
- 48:23made. My I've made my stance on the PE
- 48:26DS thing more than. Clear over the years.
- 48:29So I don't, I don't need, I don't want to have to like bore
- 48:32the listeners with the same thoughts.
- 48:34But. On the flip side, like.
- 48:38You know, dare I say in defense of those guys, it's like, OK,
- 48:42where does this more like, where do we draw the line with a moral
- 48:45clause if we're putting a guy like Carlos Beltran Beltran in,
- 48:49right? I don't, I haven't seen an
- 48:55answer. Well, I, I, I was given an
- 48:57answer. The fact that he's in the Hall
- 48:59of Fame is that is the answer. But and what, 90%?
- 49:03Of the votes, was it 90? It's like 8080, yeah. 7:00 No.
- 49:0884, Yeah, yeah. And and then.
- 49:12That you know. I I could make the case that he
- 49:14was a Hall of Famer before that scandal happened.
- 49:17I But does that matter? Does it matter?
- 49:20When it happened. Because then you could.
- 49:23Say, well, he was busted. For PEDs late in his career, but
- 49:26he was clean the rest of the way or he was busted.
- 49:29The thing is, it's like everybody post 2004, you know
- 49:34whether they're clean or not, right?
- 49:36It's. It's, you know.
- 49:38It's, it's wild, but where does that go with, I mean, how far do
- 49:43you go with it? We got guys that have admitted
- 49:46to using sticky stuff for a long time.
- 49:49Are we you have Garrett Cole on a podium almost crying.
- 49:53Like how do you want me to hold the ball?
- 49:55You know what I mean? Like, well, Jay Willikers, but
- 50:00like that's cheating. Where does that?
- 50:02And and you know, obviously you're going to hear the
- 50:04arguments with like, we'll look back in the Hall of Fame.
- 50:06We don't know who did what. We don't know who's clean, who's
- 50:08back. OK.
- 50:10But moving forward is the only thing you have an impact on.
- 50:14So I don't know. It's interesting and I.
- 50:15And, and Beltran's a weird one for me because I, I, I do feel
- 50:20like he was a Hall of Famer, but did that ruin it?
- 50:26And I'm surprised. I mean, they've already answered
- 50:28the question, like you said, but it is interesting.
- 50:30And I did not think that it would.
- 50:33I don't know, it's weird. I, I, I kind of fight with that
- 50:38a little bit and, and. It's politics.
- 50:42It's it's personal vendettas. It's it's a whole mix of things
- 50:49and it's, you know, in one breath you could say, well,
- 50:53that's what makes the Hall of Fame so just garbage.
- 50:59But on the flip side, if you're trying to spin it in a positive
- 51:02sense, you can be like, you know, that's what that's what
- 51:06makes this game, this game not perfect.
- 51:11It never will be. I mean, it's, it's perfect in
- 51:13the sense that it's in my belief, the best game of all
- 51:17time. But it's, you know, it's, it's
- 51:19not without imperfections and those imperfections come to the
- 51:23forefront most, I think, when we're talking about Cooperstown
- 51:27and, and things like that. But I don't know man, I've I've
- 51:32given up on trying to make sense of the of.
- 51:36Of the decisions made. By the, the voting panel, you
- 51:40know, I'm like that guy, that Jif where you've got strings and
- 51:43maps and question marks all behind and you're just trying to
- 51:47wrap your head around how did we get here?
- 51:50But how did we leave this guy behind or, or what are we doing
- 51:54putting this guy in here? But you know, why did it take
- 51:58this long? I, I don't know.
- 52:02I I've heard the take. In in a podcast this morning,
- 52:08if, if, if anybody wants a volunteer to show up at the
- 52:14induction ceremonies and bang a drum or bang a trash can during
- 52:18his speech, look no further that they can ask this the person
- 52:23that was on this podcast and I'll tell you what I'd have a
- 52:27hard time like I, I don't, I don't know, go for it.
- 52:32I don't. I don't.
- 52:34Want to open this, I don't want to open this can of worms, but
- 52:36I'm, I said like two or three years ago, I think at this point
- 52:40that I'm just, I'm over the like, I still see it in the
- 52:44comments. Like I saw somebody, I I think I
- 52:48posted the graphic in some like the the fact that they had
- 52:51gotten voted in or whatever and somebody in the comments was
- 52:54like, Bill Tran should wear his cap into the into Cooperstown
- 52:58and he's put like the trash can emoji.
- 53:00I'm like, that's funny. I'm like this.
- 53:04This has to. Be the end of of at least for
- 53:08him. Like, I mean, you're not going
- 53:11to hear about Beltran anymore like once once he gets in like.
- 53:16And you're going to have another wave of.
- 53:18It when Altuve decides to hang it up and then and I think, I
- 53:22think that's what. This is right.
- 53:24If you don't let Beltran in, you can't let Altuve in.
- 53:28And I think that there's part of of who's voting right now
- 53:31saying, oh, we better just get out in front of this like you
- 53:34said it. Does it count for anything that?
- 53:3720/20/2017 was Beltran's absolute worst year in the
- 53:41majors. He was 40 years old.
- 53:43Is his lowest war? Is his lowest OPS plus like so?
- 53:49A. Moral character.
- 53:51Clause is is a moral character. Clause.
- 53:55I don't know. Yeah.
- 53:57And it goes back. To where?
- 53:58Where do we? Draw the line.
- 53:59But it's like, to me, it doesn't matter.
- 54:01Like if they're going to, if they're going to, you know, and
- 54:05I. Think you could also make a.
- 54:06Case for Jose Altuve in a separate in a separate instance
- 54:10when you have Carlos Beltran who was the leader of this of this
- 54:14whole outfit and then. And then Altuve.
- 54:21Who I think you know, if they, they've looked at the tapes and
- 54:24it's like 11 pitches in his whole season.
- 54:27They hit a drum and he didn't swing in any of them and he
- 54:30looked back angry. So he's guilty by association.
- 54:33He didn't stop it. That's where his guilt is.
- 54:37But Altuve actually was a better player on the road that year.
- 54:41He he didn't want anything to do with that.
- 54:46So I guess there's AI guess there's an argument there, but
- 54:50you're still, you still didn't stop it.
- 54:53You're guilty by association for sure.
- 54:55I mean, if Joe Jackson's Joe Jackson's not in.
- 54:58Sorry, buddy. I.
- 55:02I saw AI saw a clip recently that had resurfaced.
- 55:05I don't even remember what the context of it was, but it was
- 55:07just a resurfacing of a clip of the the banging.
- 55:14Yeah, I think it was. Who was it?
- 55:16Who was the guy? There was a picture Who?
- 55:21Ultimately like called. It out called.
- 55:23Time, yeah, and. Realized like, hey, we got to we
- 55:26got to switch things up. I'm I'm blanking on the I
- 55:29literally saw this video like a couple days ago.
- 55:31But anyway, like you go back and watch it and in real time, I'm
- 55:35sure. No, I mean, obviously nobody
- 55:36thought anything of it because it took some time for this to,
- 55:39you know, unfold. Not that we got to rehash the
- 55:42whole cheating scandal. But I saw the video and I'm
- 55:45like, knowing what we know now that is egregious.
- 55:49Like, I don't know what they thought they were getting away
- 55:52with it. Well, I mean, I guess they did
- 55:54ultimately get away with it, but like, surely there had to be
- 55:58some more sense in that dugout of like, hey, you know, maybe
- 56:01this maybe we don't entirely get away with this when it's all
- 56:04said and done because this is this was it was obnoxious.
- 56:09But anyway, we don't need to. Farquhar, yes.
- 56:13That's what. That's Danny.
- 56:14Farquhar Yeah, of the of. The White Sox.
- 56:16Of the White Sox, him and the catcher.
- 56:18Got together and what's it say? Kevin Smith, the catcher?
- 56:22Because it was he called. For a change up and he was like
- 56:25dude. Something's going on here.
- 56:27It was. What's his face up?
- 56:29To bat GAT, was it Gaddis? That's a good question.
- 56:33Or not? Not Gaddis.
- 56:35Gaddis. Dang, this is going to bother
- 56:41me. Now it doesn't.
- 56:42Say who was up? Who was the?
- 56:51Who? Was it?
- 56:59I don't know. It does not.
- 57:01It does not say who was up the. There was the big beefy.
- 57:06Guy that didn't wear batting gloves, yeah.
- 57:11Yeah. I'll get you.
- 57:17Oh man, it is Gaddis. Was it Gaddis?
- 57:21Well, Gaddis was. On that team.
- 57:24Oh wait, it's right here. If that's who was up, I don't.
- 57:30Remember who was up but Gaddis was on that team.
- 57:37Yes, it it was. Evan Gaddis.
- 57:39That's what I said. I got to trust my gut more.
- 57:42Yeah. You doubted yourself.
- 57:43You were there. All right, Last item here super
- 57:47quick because we spent way more time on the Hall of Fame than I
- 57:49thought. But it was good.
- 57:50It's good conversation. Did not think I'd be talking
- 57:55Astro sheet and scandal to this, to this length to that, but you
- 57:59know, here we are, here we are. Last note here, Yadier Molina
- 58:03being added to the Saint Louis Cardinals front office as a
- 58:08special assistant to the President of Baseball
- 58:12Operations, Heim Bloom. Let's just get this man into.
- 58:19A. Into a manager seat.
- 58:24It's it's time. I mean, sure, I feel.
- 58:27Like we can wait this out. Only going to.
- 58:28Happen with the Cardinals, right?
- 58:32I feel very. Strongly about a team legend
- 58:38fill in the shoes of the manager role.
- 58:41That's just risky. I mean, it pans out sometimes,
- 58:45but other times it can, especially when you're, I mean,
- 58:48if it if you were good, but the fans were sort of indifferent
- 58:52about you or maybe you, you know, had some issues flare up
- 58:55along the way that, you know, turn force people to turn their
- 58:59shoulder a little bit on you. OK.
- 59:00But when you're beloved like I, I use the example of time like
- 59:04Jason Veritec. I never want him even thinking
- 59:07about becoming the manager of the Boston Red Sox because of
- 59:10how much he's beloved there. But the same applies to Yadier
- 59:13Molina. It's like, yeah, if it doesn't
- 59:16pan out well in Saint Louis, that, I mean, it's not going to
- 59:19take away from your time there as a player, but it can really
- 59:22sour the the legacy that you leave when you finally decide to
- 59:26leave for for good. So I don't know.
- 59:29But yeah, that makes a lot of sense.
- 59:31Oliver Marmel Marmol is still there.
- 59:34Ollie. Ollie.
- 59:36Yeah. He he's what, 4-5 years now?
- 59:41It's not been great. Could be setting it up for that.
- 59:46They're going they've, I mean, I don't.
- 59:48Understand the moves they've. Made right now, but they they've
- 59:52essentially stocked a little bit down on the miners.
- 59:55They could take a big step back this year and the way that the
- 1:00:00way that. Professional sports are going
- 1:00:02right now. I mean he they could fire 3
- 1:00:04managers this year somehow because everybody just.
- 1:00:07Wants to fire. Everyone now, which is crazy so.
- 1:00:11He's he's getting canned and. And making room for for Molina
- 1:00:16right before they start getting good, whether that's at the end
- 1:00:20of this year or if they wait out to see what happens with
- 1:00:24everything else. And then they'll and then
- 1:00:27they'll bring Molina in to save the day.
- 1:00:30Yeah. I mean, if this was the plan
- 1:00:31all. Along, so be it.
- 1:00:32Like, I guess we'll just have to.
- 1:00:33If it does go South, we'll just have to deal with the
- 1:00:35consequences of it as baseball fans and watch Yachty's legacy
- 1:00:40become tarnished. But if this truly is just like a
- 1:00:46hey. He's going to get some, some
- 1:00:49time around the front office, get some, you know, get some,
- 1:00:53some time under his belt of what it's like to be on the other
- 1:00:56side of the lines. OK, Then maybe, maybe we
- 1:01:02preserve that legacy a little bit and look elsewhere for some
- 1:01:05of these other teams to to bring them on.
- 1:01:07But I don't know, maybe I like that the more I think about it,
- 1:01:09maybe he just he's just a Cardinal for life.
- 1:01:13I don't know but. It'll be like a situation.
- 1:01:17Where if they ever do have to get rid of him, he'll like
- 1:01:20honorably step down instead. Oh yeah, yeah, that way.
- 1:01:24They can be like OK. I'd rather somebody else do this
- 1:01:27and and make it better. Yeah, they.
- 1:01:31Yeah, they'll never fire him. They'll never fire him.
- 1:01:33I'll just be like, ah, mutually. They mutually agreed to part
- 1:01:36ways. Kind of.
- 1:01:37That's true anyway. Speaking of part.
- 1:01:39Ways, let's, let's, let's get out of here.
- 1:01:44That was good. That was good.
- 1:01:45You know, I said, hey, let's, let's keep it brief.
- 1:01:48And I think we could have if we wanted to, but we, we, we took
- 1:01:51some, took some, some rabbit trails and yeah, had some.
- 1:01:56Good conversation, Josh. It was a pleasure having you on
- 1:01:59the on the on the big square here on the big on the big
- 1:02:02square on a big screen here. Good stuff.
- 1:02:06Any did we miss anything? I don't think so.
- 1:02:09I'm hitting the. Refresh No other deals.
- 1:02:11Have gone down the last five. Minutes Jung, Hu Lee.
- 1:02:17Detained at LAX. We didn't we didn't talk about
- 1:02:21that. That was right before we.
- 1:02:23Started, I said Jung Hu Lee's been released.
- 1:02:26Yeah, dude, this is a crazy headline.
- 1:02:28Giants Jung Hu Lee, detained at LAX over forgotten documents,
- 1:02:31quickly released the Giants. Like, I don't want any part of
- 1:02:34this guy. Can't remember to bring his
- 1:02:37passport. Get him out of here.
- 1:02:39You're gone. Yeah, that's such a misleading.
- 1:02:44Headline. My goodness.
- 1:02:49Yeah, but Giants fans got. Real concern there, but any who,
- 1:02:53yeah, I think that was the only other thing of of of any.
- 1:02:58Real significance that we. That we left off, but that'll do
- 1:03:01it. Got anything else You ready to
- 1:03:04get out of here? Ready to get out of here?
- 1:03:06Go baseball. We love you all and as always,
- 1:03:09looking forward to. Talking more baseball with you
- 1:03:10guys soon. Until next time, stay filthy.
