- 0:003 lifelong friends, 6 trusty balls and endless NFL takes
- 0:05Welcome to three guys 6 balls NFL podcast Welcome to episode
- 0:0814 of three guys 6 balls To start off today's episode, I
- 0:12want to say rest in peace to Will's Will Howard for rookie of
- 0:17the year prediction the Pittsburgh Steelers have
- 0:20officially. Signed everything.
- 0:23They ruined everything. I was actually looking forward
- 0:25to seeing how that played out this season, honestly.
- 0:28It would have been great. Should have been great.
- 0:30You know what we'll. Be, I mean, he still has to.
- 0:32He still has to stay healthy though.
- 0:33Yeah, even if he double S his first season in New York with
- 0:37The Jets, that's 4 plays instead of 2, so there's still time.
- 0:40That's almost a drive. Almost one full draft I.
- 0:45Mean What do we expect here to him this season?
- 0:47He can't be a he's the Steelers fan.
- 0:49He's got to have some insight on this.
- 0:52For based off of my, based off of my, based off of my
- 0:57father-in-law and wife's reaction, not much honestly.
- 1:01Oh. Really.
- 1:02Not much. They were hoping for Will
- 1:05Howard. They were like, that's.
- 1:07Are they making for Wolf fans? Here's The thing is they don't,
- 1:11they don't like really dig deep into it, like know who all the
- 1:14players are. Unless they're like a star
- 1:16player, they don't even know who will Howard is, to be honest.
- 1:18I've tried to explain it to my wife and she's like I don't
- 1:21care. Absolutely not Know who Will
- 1:23Howard is. Look at that, Joe gets sucked
- 1:26into this fandom and then he finds out that none of them even
- 1:30care. All they care about is is
- 1:33winning or losing. That's all they care about.
- 1:35They don't care who's on the team.
- 1:36But Aaron Rodgers. They do know that name.
- 1:38The Aaron Rodgers thing, they were not excited.
- 1:40For well, they just don't know what you're gonna get yet.
- 1:43And obviously they're getting peak Aaron Rodgers.
- 1:45If you watch anything on sports media, Aaron Rodgers coming back
- 1:49as the savior of Pittsburgh. So obviously it's well peak.
- 1:52Aaron Rodgers, Well, that's what it sounds like, but it also kind
- 1:55of sounds like they're not even fully aware of who he is because
- 2:00I mean, with what you were explaining, they don't seem to
- 2:02know much about it or the team. So when you said Aaron Rodgers,
- 2:06I first I was thinking they're like, oh, he's washed up.
- 2:09He's not good. But now I don't even think that
- 2:11that's I think that's too deep. Do they like know who he is or
- 2:16like where he played before? Yeah, they know who Aaron
- 2:18Rodgers is. They know all the big names, but
- 2:21they don't watch college football at all, so they don't
- 2:23know who Will Howard is. But why aren't they excited for
- 2:25Aaron Rodgers? Like, do you know, Like, is it
- 2:27just because he's older? He was crap last season.
- 2:30Dude, I honestly, I'll be honest, I don't even know if
- 2:33I've seen him play since he played at Green Bay.
- 2:35And the Steelers announcement, I think it's the funniest thing.
- 2:37And the Steelers announcement of Aaron Rodgers coming back, they
- 2:40showed the clip of him running out with the American flag,
- 2:43which was two seasons ago when said he paid 2 snaps.
- 2:47It's like, is this a memory we want?
- 2:49Yeah, sure, him running out his cool, but that's probably the
- 2:51moment that loosened up his ACL. Oh man, you you're running
- 2:55again. And and then it's done forever.
- 2:58It's the furthest he's ran his whole career.
- 3:01Probably. All right, let's get into our
- 3:04first topic. Is the Madden curse real?
- 3:07So Saquon Barkley was just recently selected as the Madden
- 3:1126 cover athlete. And so the question obviously
- 3:15has been raised, is the Madden curse real?
- 3:17Is Saquon Barkley going to be subject to the Madden curse?
- 3:20What do you guys think? Is the Madden Curse real?
- 3:22No. I agree with Avery, I do not
- 3:26think the madness is real. Do you?
- 3:28Say that no, no, no, no, no. You answer this.
- 3:30Do you think it's real, Joe? Yeah.
- 3:31Do we need to change your answer, Joe?
- 3:32No, I don't think it's real. Oh.
- 3:34My goodness, we got 1 Avery. I don't think it's real.
- 3:37Because sometimes under immense amount of pressure, humans do
- 3:42bad. And bad is subjective, right?
- 3:45Like chances are Christian McCaffrey gets hurt either way,
- 3:48whether he's on the Madden cover or not.
- 3:51That dude, you have the weakest joints ever.
- 3:52He's going to get hurt either way.
- 3:54And and you can just go through history just sometimes when the
- 3:57pressure's on and they get these big contracts and they get the
- 4:00Madden cover and eat this, that and the other, they didn't crack
- 4:03under the pressure. That's humans.
- 4:05I am a conspiracy theorist through and through and I'm not
- 4:09buying this one. This is this is just a bunch of
- 4:13fans just trying to spice up their lives a little bit.
- 4:16The way I see it is most of the quarterbacks do fine unless that
- 4:21quarterback was put on the cover because of some hype.
- 4:24Either they were a fan favorite, or they were exciting, or they
- 4:28were a scrambling quarterback 15 years ago or their running
- 4:31backs. Like those are the guys that get
- 4:34wrecked running backs because they get wrecked no matter what.
- 4:37Like none of those guys are, you know, always coming back for
- 4:41another season. He's going to do it again.
- 4:42It's like, no, no, no, no. Like once you hit 25, like
- 4:46you've peaked, like if you're going down now, I mean, there's
- 4:48been some like crazy stuff that's happened, but there's
- 4:50been crazy stuff that happens all the time.
- 4:52I would say Sean Alexander's is a little suss just because that
- 4:55man had never been injured and then immediately got injured.
- 4:59Like there's some there's some things that like keep you
- 5:01holding on to it, but for the most part there's no way this is
- 5:05real. So to go back to Christian
- 5:07McCaffrey, so he was actually injured in 2020 and 2021 with
- 5:11the Panthers. He only played three games in
- 5:132020 and seven games in 2021. And he wasn't on the Madden
- 5:17covers. But also, I went through every
- 5:20single year of the Madden cover from 01 to Madden 25.
- 5:24Oh gosh. Wait, this Madden 25 or the last
- 5:28Madden 20? Five The first Madden 25.
- 5:33What year was that? Like 16/13/13?
- 5:36What? It was somewhere.
- 5:38Remember it was 25th. It was 25th and. 25th
- 5:41anniversary and I remember. Even asking, I think, I think it
- 5:45was with you guys or I asked somebody, I'm like, what are
- 5:47they going to do when we actually hit 2024?
- 5:49Are they going to just do it again?
- 5:51Are they going to come up with a new name?
- 5:52Like who knows? And then they did it. 2013 NFL
- 5:56Madden 25 2013 video game Barry Sanders actually.
- 6:00Was in. Calvin Johnson on the cover of
- 6:0213 I. Don't know, I'm looking at Barry
- 6:05Sanders's face. Joel, you should know.
- 6:07You look. You look at every single one,
- 6:09Calvin. Johnson actually totally bucked
- 6:11the Madden Curse that dude. Arrived, you say?
- 6:14Adrian Peterson. There's Adrian Peterson here.
- 6:17Adrian Peterson was Madden 14. Oh, you know what?
- 6:20Yeah, it's 2014. So yeah, it was Adrian Peterson
- 6:22and Barry Sanders. OK, OK, so I'm not.
- 6:24So Calvin Johnson was on Madden 13.
- 6:26Probably. See, I knew I looked it up
- 6:28correctly. Didn't mean to doubt you.
- 6:30Anyway, so I went through every single year of the Madden cover
- 6:33and here's what I came up with. So I I went through and I put a
- 6:37a yes or no for if they're cursed or not.
- 6:39And from Madden O1 to Madden 25, I came up with 13 1/2 out of 24
- 6:47players were cursed. And I put 13 1/2 because there
- 6:50was one year where Larry Fitzgerald and Troy Palmoli were
- 6:52on the cover. Troy was cursed.
- 6:54Troy was cursed. Larry was not.
- 6:56Yeah, yes. So 56.25% of all the Madden
- 7:01cover athletes have been cursed. However, from 2014 to 2024 to
- 7:07Madden 15 to Madden 25. Madden 25 to Madden 25.
- 7:11Yeah. So only four out of those ten
- 7:16players were cursed. So it drops down to 40%.
- 7:18So just based off of those numbers, I would say it's not
- 7:21cursed because it shows that more often than not the players
- 7:24are not cursed. What do we classify as cursed?
- 7:27Is it just the following year? Is it the rest of their career?
- 7:29What are we? What are we classifying as
- 7:31cursed? Well, OK, so that's actually a
- 7:33good question because thank you. Let me give you an example.
- 7:36So. Madden 15, Richard Sherman's on
- 7:39the cover. OK, so.
- 7:42The best player. He played just as well as he did
- 7:45the season before, but the Seahawks go to the Super Bowl,
- 7:48they don't run the ball at the 1 yard line, and Richard Sherman
- 7:51gets turned into a forever meme. Every time.
- 7:53How does that come up every every time?
- 7:56We're just trying to talk about the Seahawks for our our
- 7:59dedicated fan, Joey Case. I feel bad for him because
- 8:03that's probably the face that every Seahawks fan made at that
- 8:06moment. They just had to happen to have
- 8:08a camera on him of. Course it did.
- 8:10Everyone's like just happened. So do you consider that a curse
- 8:14or not? I don't know.
- 8:16I wouldn't consider that a curse for him as a player
- 8:19specifically, but you could consider it a curse for the
- 8:22team. Sure.
- 8:23So I really just depends on how you view the curse.
- 8:26See, I mean, but like Culpepper and Vince Young, like those guys
- 8:32were just hype quarterbacks. Vince Young?
- 8:36Neither. Of them had a great year, didn't
- 8:38one of them have more interceptions than they threw
- 8:41touchdowns the year they got put on it?
- 8:43Like in the season that they got put on or the season before they
- 8:46get that season. Before the season, that got them
- 8:49the cover. Yeah.
- 8:50Because I mean, like Vince Young, I mean, that was like he
- 8:52was just exciting at Texas. And then everyone's thinking
- 8:55like, this is the guy. And I think they put it on there
- 8:57a little preemptively. Like I think most of the guys,
- 9:00I'd be curious. I mean, there's no way to know
- 9:02like what they're deciding factors were.
- 9:04But I think a lot of the guys that got put on there were just
- 9:06like, oh, this guy's hot right now.
- 9:08Not meaning like, you know, oh, you won the MVP.
- 9:11But it's like, you know, I mean, even Peyton Hillis, dude, I
- 9:13never knew who Peyton Hillis was.
- 9:16I remember us having a Joel's house, the cover of it, and
- 9:19we're all like, who is this guy? And we had to like, look him up.
- 9:22He had an MVP caliber season and no one knew who he was.
- 9:25Huge football fans, it's like huge NFL fans were watching it
- 9:29all the time. Madden regularly.
- 9:31When he played on the Browns. So like, obviously we're not
- 9:33going to really know who he is. And there's a reason that was
- 9:35the one of the season they did the fan voting for the Madden
- 9:38cover. Is that actually 1 fan voting?
- 9:41Because because of Cleveland is one thing.
- 9:44They are together. And they have nothing better to
- 9:46do. There's nothing better to do in
- 9:49that city. LeBron, even LeBron left.
- 9:52You know, what's funny is that the argument we're making
- 9:54against Peyton Hillis being on the cover is like the same thing
- 9:59that we're accusing the NFL or the NBA of doing as far as
- 10:03rigging like, games or putting better teams in there.
- 10:07Because we'd be like, who? I don't want to see Oklahoma
- 10:10City and Indianapolis play. And the NBA is like, I know we
- 10:14don't either, but you guys were on to us so we had to chill.
- 10:18And now you have like the lowest viewership finals ever.
- 10:21Anyway, that's. I pulled up Vince Young's stats
- 10:24from the season that got him put on the Madden cover.
- 10:27So he threw 12 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.
- 10:30He only completed 51.5% of his passes.
- 10:33He should not have. OK, but what do I do Comparison
- 10:35to the rest of the NFL though? Was that good for the time
- 10:38period? It better not have been.
- 10:41That's never good. That's a bad question.
- 10:43They wouldn't have sold games at all.
- 10:44I would be like, I'm not playing the game I watched the whole
- 10:47season. I don't want to watch that.
- 10:48Let's just say Tom Brady was in his prime then.
- 10:51So no, that's not good. I.
- 10:53Mean if that was the case, if everyone was throwing as many
- 10:55interceptions as touchdowns, we'd have a cornerback or a
- 10:58safety on the cover. You're right, you're right.
- 11:00Lamar Jackson was on the cover of 2021 and he's only gotten
- 11:04better since then. I mean he's like the anti curse.
- 11:06Calvin Johnson did the same thing like two seasons after
- 11:09that. He like topped the season that
- 11:10he got the cover. Michael Vick O 4 07 No Michael.
- 11:15Vick, Michael Vick was on the cover of Mad No Four, Yeah.
- 11:19You're right, but he was. He was cursed.
- 11:21He was cursed though. Hold on though, what?
- 11:22Did Michael Vick even do? He did.
- 11:23Not do that much worse in the NFL the previous or the
- 11:29following two seasons, and then he had to legally take a couple
- 11:32seasons off and sure after that he did worse.
- 11:37The season after he was on the cover, he fractured his leg and
- 11:39he played five games. OK, yeah, checks out.
- 11:42Actually, I rest my case for proven wrong.
- 11:45I rest my case. But yeah, I mean, recently
- 11:47you've got you've got players like Patrick Mahomes, who in his
- 11:50cover season won a Super Bowl, won his first Super Bowl.
- 11:53You've got Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes, who were both on the
- 11:55cover of Madden 22. I guess if you want to stretch
- 11:59it out, you could call them cursed because neither of them
- 12:01won the Super Bowl or made the Super Bowl in that season.
- 12:05So I guess if you want to stretch that.
- 12:06Out You cannot make sure the Super Bowl is cursed.
- 12:08When you're Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady, yes.
- 12:10I mean, sure, but still. And then you've got Josh Allen,
- 12:14who is on the cover of Madden 24, who scored 40 plus total
- 12:18touchdowns for the fourth straight year.
- 12:20So recently, up until Christian McCaffrey, the curse wasn't.
- 12:23A thing, I think it was a bigger thing back in the day, But but
- 12:26as Avery mentioned, there's players made to cover because
- 12:29they were just getting used and abused by their team.
- 12:31That's why they got the stats they got, obviously, except for
- 12:34some of them, sure, But then the following season their bodies
- 12:37just broken down. So it just doesn't it just
- 12:40doesn't work right. So I don't know.
- 12:42I think what's going to be interesting is as we push
- 12:45forward with our college football games, the incident of
- 12:47late 25 cover had Quinn Ewers, Travis Hunter and Donovan
- 12:51Edwards says that's his name, right?
- 12:53Donovan. Yeah, yeah.
- 12:54From Michigan running back and and that Donovan Edwards had a
- 12:58drop off like no other this year.
- 13:01And Quinn Ewers wasn't bad, but he wasn't good as as good as he
- 13:04was a previous year. Only when he really performed
- 13:07was Travis Hunter. So 2/3 of that cover was not
- 13:11yet. I'm wondering if it's if now
- 13:13that the college football's back, if the curse has switched.
- 13:16We'll wait like 10 years and we'll come back to that.
- 13:17We'll see. Actually, to be fair, I I feel
- 13:19kind of bad for Quinn. Yours.
- 13:22I'm like, dude, you come back for the senior season, you've
- 13:25got little Manning right behind you.
- 13:27Yeah, like, everyone's just waiting.
- 13:29They're like, yeah, like you better bring it.
- 13:32I mean, you don't have to because we can just bench you
- 13:34anytime we want. But like, you're our guy for
- 13:38now. Steve Sarkeesian, right head
- 13:40coach out there. Yeah.
- 13:42Yeah, I wonder how many times he had to defend his Quin.
- 13:45Your choice. How many?
- 13:47And it's not like how many weeks, but how many times a week
- 13:50he had to defend the No, we're sticking with Quinn coaching.
- 13:53You sure sticking with Quinn? Yeah, we talked about that
- 13:56before the the his whole entire season.
- 13:59Nobody wanted to play all he was leading his team to the
- 14:01playoffs. So whatever, as you see.
- 14:04So wait, this was was this Archie's second season?
- 14:08I know he redshirted, but that's not going to matter because he's
- 14:10going to go off for three. So he's only going to play for
- 14:13one season, Yes. I.
- 14:15Wonder if that was? There's no way.
- 14:17They already talked about having a number one pick next year.
- 14:20Because at first I was thinking, OK, maybe they like, well, at
- 14:24first I was like, why would you go to Texas?
- 14:25Because you're going to play behind Quinn yours for two years
- 14:28and then you're only going to play one season and leave.
- 14:29And then I'm thinking maybe that was the plan.
- 14:32Go to a big a nice school with, you know, a good place that can
- 14:36develop you, but not take the wear and tear and abuse.
- 14:39Prove yourself after one season and then go get paid real money.
- 14:43Although he's getting paid real money right now, probably he's
- 14:45not even playing do. You guys actually think he's
- 14:47going to be good? Coin yours or Archie Manning?
- 14:50No, Archie. Manning.
- 14:51No, that was I. Think it was too.
- 14:54Quick, I don't think so bad. I just don't like that everybody
- 14:58is like giving him all this praise and saying he's the next
- 15:00big thing, but he hasn't done anything.
- 15:02I mean, he's he played a few games and he actually did pretty
- 15:05well. But I mean, I'll say that like
- 15:08I'm sure a lot of people can't, you know, compartmentalize the
- 15:11fact that he's a Manning. You know, if he had any other
- 15:14last name, I'm sure he would just be a highly ranked
- 15:16quarterback that they're excited to to watch finally.
- 15:19So I'd say a lot of the hype is purely because of who he is.
- 15:22Last year he appeared in 10 games, had 61 completions on 90
- 15:27attempts through for 939 yards, 9 touchdowns, 2 picks.
- 15:31I mean, that's pretty good for garbage time because that's all
- 15:35he's really coming in. So he's coming in to play
- 15:37against the ones usually, but there were statue to have for
- 15:41sure. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm
- 15:42excited to watch him and like see how he is, but I just don't
- 15:45like that everybody's already saying he's the number one pick
- 15:47and he hasn't even really played a season.
- 15:49How many times have we seen where a quarterback is supposed
- 15:52to be the number one pick and then he sucks?
- 15:55Yeah, I mean, to me, I don't know, you know, I was always
- 15:59surprised with the Andrew Luck progression because he was that
- 16:03guy like 2 years before he got to the NFL.
- 16:06Like everyone was already saying this is the guy, this is the
- 16:08guy. And he had everything, you know,
- 16:10on paper and everything like the height, the build, intelligence,
- 16:13you know, the form and everything.
- 16:14And then he came in the league and actually like lived up to
- 16:16it. I mean, again, minus injuries
- 16:18and stuff, how many other guys have we had like Luck where it's
- 16:21like some guys basically like a prophesied, you know, player and
- 16:26it was Greg Odin in the NBA. I'm just kind of thinking of
- 16:28like Spencer Rattler when he was at Oklahoma, he was supposed to
- 16:32be the number one pick and he was total.
- 16:34Garbage the whole time. And I'm not saying Arch
- 16:36Manning's going to be that, but that just like that experience
- 16:40watching this number one overall pick, he wasn't good at all.
- 16:45And he get, oh, he's in the Saints.
- 16:47He's the Saints, yeah, he played several games last year because
- 16:49of Derek Carr's injury and he wasn't very good.
- 16:53Oh well, let me ask you guys, this is a little off topic, kind
- 16:56of. Who do you think ends up
- 16:58starting Rattler or Shuck? Shuck.
- 17:01Really. They spent a second round pick
- 17:03on him. When was Rattler drafted?
- 17:04What? What are they going to do?
- 17:05Let him sit behind Spencer Rattler and develop behind the
- 17:08experience? One year vet.
- 17:10Oh, Rattler is a fifth round pick.
- 17:12I don't think they're spending the number 40 overall pick on
- 17:14him to let him sit when Spencer Rattler is their other
- 17:18quarterback. Geez, nevermind.
- 17:20OK, he went. Oh, and six.
- 17:22Yeah, he's terrible. Do you resend your question?
- 17:25Yeah, just cut that part. No, don't I was I 'cause I know
- 17:28he was. Bad.
- 17:29But then I'm like, maybe maybe he's not actually as bad as I'm
- 17:32thinking. Maybe there's maybe there's
- 17:33something there. And then I looked it up like
- 17:34now. Yeah, 13.
- 17:37I should have trusted my initial gut. 1300 yards, 4 touchdowns, 5
- 17:40picks, 4 touchdowns in six games.
- 17:43Oh yeah, that's terrible. 57% completion percentage.
- 17:46This dude's bad guys are fumbled five times, hit 5 picks and five
- 17:51fumbles. Wait, so he had more picks and
- 17:53fumbles than he did touchdowns? Touchdown passes.
- 17:56Winner. No wonder they went over six.
- 17:58We kept starting. Oh, he lost three of them.
- 18:00Holy cow. Jeez.
- 18:02Yeah, that's so I would say, I would say Chuck.
- 18:05It's what the shucks. I'd say someone else someone
- 18:07else. They forgot Taysom.
- 18:08Oh, they do. You know what do?
- 18:10They, yeah, but I don't think they're going to start him a
- 18:12quarterback when he's there, everything.
- 18:14It's a Goodyear to get Taysom Hill as your tight end as a
- 18:18starting quarterback. He's going to throw it to
- 18:19himself. Well.
- 18:20If famous, football doesn't know what to do with Taysom Hill, so
- 18:22they leave him as a tight end and he sometimes throws the ball
- 18:25and plays quarterbacks. So you get all sorts of stats.
- 18:27Not that. What is that guy's name?
- 18:29Who's the backup in Atlanta? What's that guy's name?
- 18:31Kirk Cousins. He's the backup.
- 18:33Yeah, he's Michael Pennix. It's Michael Pennix.
- 18:35He's in Atlanta. He got benched last year.
- 18:38Don't worry, we're going to get to all these quarterbacks in our
- 18:41next segment. So let's just keep, let's just
- 18:43keep talking about show you quarterbacks.
- 18:45Pardon me, I don't know I won't slip there, but I, I I think the
- 18:51trade value for a veteran quarterback like Kirk Cousins at
- 18:56Fred's name all I think it was case Keam that wasn't it.
- 18:59The the, the trade value for Kirk Cousins is going to be
- 19:03incredibly high. We're going to get 2-3 games
- 19:06into the season. These teams are going to be Owen
- 19:083 and their quarterbacks are gonna be just just terrible,
- 19:13absolutely awful and early. Alright, we'll get somebody else
- 19:15in here who has salvage this season.
- 19:17And so the phones are going to ring for Atlanta and they're
- 19:19going to get a King's ransom for Casey or fees.
- 19:22I did it again for Kirk Cousins this year.
- 19:24And then the problem is, is that Michael Pinnix isn't gonna be
- 19:27the guy either. But the Falcons don't give a
- 19:28hoot. And those those sack of season
- 19:30whatever, who cares? So I'm so upset that we lost to
- 19:33that guy at Oregon. Yeah, he's left-handed, too.
- 19:37I'm just kidding. He's fine.
- 19:40I hate watching a lefty ball. I don't like it.
- 19:43It's unnatural. Sorry, Lincoln.
- 19:44It's not the way God intended it to be.
- 19:47Your parents are just forced you to use your right hand like
- 19:49everybody else's parents. All right, let's get on to our
- 19:52next topic. All right, so we're going to be
- 19:54talking about which team will be the last undefeated team this
- 19:57season. Before we do that, I have a
- 19:59little stat dump for you guys. So over the last 25 years, the
- 20:03average amount of wins before the last undefeated team has
- 20:07lost their first game is 8.44. There's been seven times that
- 20:11there has been a double digit win team before their first
- 20:15loss, and none of those teams have ever.
- 20:17Won the Super Bowl. 13 teams that have been the last
- 20:21undefeated team have reached the Super Bowl, but only one has won
- 20:25the Super Bowl and the last one to do it was the 2006 Colts.
- 20:29And then three of the teams that were the last undefeated team
- 20:32have actually missed the playoffs, the 2002 Chargers, the
- 20:362014 Eagles, and the 2016 Vikings.
- 20:39So with that being said, Will who do you have as your team
- 20:43that will be the last undefeated team this year?
- 20:44So probably no surprise to anybody.
- 20:46I've been on this team for way too much, way too long.
- 20:49I know with the acquisition of Aaron Rodgers, this moves the
- 20:51needle and I'm gonna go with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
- 20:54You took. Mine, I'm not sorry.
- 20:57Their first four games, they're at New York Jets, home against
- 21:01Seattle, at New England, home against Minnesota.
- 21:05None of those games scare me. The scariest 1 is Seattle, but
- 21:09you're at home and Pittsburgh does significantly better at
- 21:11home, and you have a bye week and you're home against
- 21:14Cleveland. You're at the Bengals.
- 21:16They can't stop anybody. Week 8, you're home against
- 21:18Green Bay. Week 9, you're home against
- 21:20Indianapolis. And then your first loss
- 21:23probably comes at Week 10 at La for the Chargers.
- 21:27They have a pretty favorable schedule to begin with.
- 21:30It ends in an absolute slaughter.
- 21:32The Bengals again, Chicago, Buffalo, Baltimore, Miami,
- 21:35Detroit, Cleveland, Baltimore, the finish of their their
- 21:39schedule is is murderous, but it opens up really soft and they
- 21:43have a chance to secure what's his bucket.
- 21:46The coach out there, Mike Tomlin, thank you for that.
- 21:49They have a chance to cure Mike Tomlin his winning season before
- 21:52they even get to a hard part of the season.
- 21:55I'm curious if that was not on purpose.
- 21:58By the NFL. Yeah, yeah.
- 22:00The scheduling by the NFL, if that was not on purpose to get
- 22:03them enough under themselves because there was no guarantee
- 22:06they were going to get Aaron Rodgers, other NFL may have
- 22:09known that already. Although I would also like to
- 22:11mention, I don't believe the NFL is raped as an overall theme.
- 22:14I don't believe it's raped individual thing, sure, but as
- 22:17an as a way to get Mike Tomlin his required nine wins if they
- 22:23kind of lofted the front half of that season up to a bit softer.
- 22:27Well, if that's the case, they've done it before because
- 22:30in 2020 and 2024 the Steelers started very strong and then
- 22:35they finished very poor. So in 2020 they were the last
- 22:39undefeated team. They started 11 and O their last
- 22:42five games. They went one and four and they
- 22:44finished 12:00 and 4:00. Then in 2024, they started 10
- 22:48and three. They lost their last four games
- 22:51to go 10:00 and 7:00. So it seems like the NFL has
- 22:54done this to the Steelers a couple of different times
- 22:57before, but with this schedule, the way it's set up, I had them
- 23:01getting eight wins to start off, potentially more, potentially
- 23:05more. But I think those first eight
- 23:06games for the Steelers are very winnable.
- 23:09I think that with the Packers game specifically, that's the
- 23:11only team in the NFL that Aaron Rodgers has not beat because he
- 23:15was playing for them. And I think he's going to be
- 23:17motivated to try and beat the Packers.
- 23:19So I have them winning eight games.
- 23:21I think just like Will mentioned, their schedule starts
- 23:24off fairly easy with several winnable games.
- 23:27And the last part of their schedule is very tough.
- 23:31Sorry to steal your answer, that's been the thing about not
- 23:33hosting is that I get to go either first or second and
- 23:36chances are avers are not going to agree with me because that's
- 23:38just how life works and so I just win.
- 23:40Well, I'm going to start going first then.
- 23:42No, your host. Sorry pal all.
- 23:45Right Avery, who did you pick as your team?
- 23:47I had. Do you guys want to guess?
- 23:49The 49ers. Know why?
- 23:52Just because they have the easiest schedule.
- 23:53Because. Their schedule is so easy.
- 23:56Now I had the Bills. Interesting.
- 23:58Because they also had a they have the 5th easiest schedule.
- 24:01Somehow I don't understand. That start off against the.
- 24:04Ravens, so I was going to pick whoever wins Bill's a Ravens.
- 24:08Whoever wins that game is going to go in to figure for a bad
- 24:10yes, I had that that so I was like, oh, that's that yes, they
- 24:14do start off against each other, but sorry, it's your it's your
- 24:17turn. The floor is yours.
- 24:17I'm sorry, no. That's that is honest.
- 24:19I was having similar thoughts because that was the game that I
- 24:22was worried about. But besides that, like, I mean,
- 24:25I thought, I mean, unlike the Steelers that have that gauntlet
- 24:29of a meat grinder at the end of the season, the Bills, I mean,
- 24:34granted, I'm looking at it through the lens of the current
- 24:38Buffalo Bills rather than, you know, if the 49ers were having
- 24:41to do it. But I feel like they're going to
- 24:43have one of the best records in the NFL.
- 24:46And I think that they have the best shot to stay undefeated the
- 24:50longest. But I also have to, you know,
- 24:53point out what Will said. I think that if the Ravens win
- 24:56that game, I think the Ravens might happen as well.
- 24:59At that point, the Bills will have no shot because it's it's
- 25:01over. But I like the Bills.
- 25:03I think they got the best shot. Just looking at their schedule.
- 25:05So yeah, they start off at home against the Ravens, then they go
- 25:09to The Jets. They play the Dolphins, the
- 25:12Saints, the Patriots, Falcons and Panthers, and then they play
- 25:16the Chiefs. So we know they can be in the
- 25:18regular season especially and they.
- 25:20Go to homelands and chiefs there too.
- 25:22Yeah, then they go to the Dolphins.
- 25:24Then they play Tampa Bay. Then the Texans, Steelers,
- 25:28Bengals, Patriots, Browns, Eagles and Jets.
- 25:32Really there's only like 3 you could maybe say. 4.
- 25:36I would maybe say three to five games on that schedule that they
- 25:40could potentially lose. The rest of them, they should
- 25:42win. Yeah, I like them.
- 25:44On the flip side of that, Baltimore, they're going to
- 25:46start off against Buffalo at Buffalo and has Cleveland,
- 25:50Detroit, which who knows if they're going to be this year
- 25:52and they're they're in KC. Their first four, three of their
- 25:56first four are not easy games. Once they make it out of that,
- 25:59it will easy ease up. But we've talked about before
- 26:04the AFC North, they just beat each other down the entire radio
- 26:08season. Whoever wins the AFC North
- 26:10usually sets himself up pretty good in the playoffs.
- 26:11It'll be really interesting to watch, especially as the season
- 26:14comes to an end there with the the Sealers who have a real
- 26:18possibility of getting off to a hot start and then coming to a
- 26:22crashing halt early. Yeah, just based on that
- 26:24schedule, I don't think it's going to be the Ravens.
- 26:27I think they're they've, they've got to lose at least one of
- 26:29those three games that you mentioned against the Bills,
- 26:32Lions or Chiefs. Yeah, we've got the Browns at
- 26:34home against Brown. I'm just kidding.
- 26:36Hey, they lost to the Browns last year.
- 26:38Drew, it is. It is only June.
- 26:42I get that. But if your team doesn't already
- 26:44have a starting quarterback named, your chances this season,
- 26:48I give you incredibly low chances.
- 26:50And so the Browns are in that boat now where I think Joe
- 26:53Flacco may be listed as the current starter, but I don't
- 26:56know if that's real or if they just kind of have to list
- 26:59somebody. And so as as the offseason goes
- 27:02on and again, I know it's only June, season starts in
- 27:05September, regular season starts in September.
- 27:07But the longer things go on and you don't have a starting
- 27:09quarterback named to me, your chances in the season just
- 27:13continue to dwindle. Yeah, I would agree.
- 27:15I think they, I don't know if you guys saw that report that
- 27:17Shudur was like the 5th quarterback, 4th or 5th
- 27:20quarterback on the depth chart. I think they just said that just
- 27:23to try and create some like hype around the.
- 27:25Branch. I don't think he's 5th.
- 27:26I imagine that would be Deshaun Watson.
- 27:28Maybe he's behind Deshaun. Injured Deshaun doesn't have an
- 27:32Achilles or an ACL or something. Maybe maybe Deshaun Watson has
- 27:35been giving the coaches massages and so they bumped him up on the
- 27:40Ted pic. Goes around, comes around.
- 27:42Gabriel's gonna have a better career than Sanders.
- 27:44Dionne Yeah. Did you mean Shiloh?
- 27:47Let's be specific. Shiloh will have better career
- 27:49than all three of them put. It down spreadsheet.
- 27:53On the spreadsheet, Yeah, that's going on the spreadsheet.
- 27:56Prime time move over dude. Shiloh's here.
- 27:59Primetime junior, you're. I believe in the ranking of
- 28:03kids. Your third favorite or fourth
- 28:04favorite? I am, no.
- 28:06Did you see? Yeah.
- 28:07Did you see Dion? I actually ranked his kids.
- 28:09No, he. Said that, I'm not kidding you.
- 28:12Who is top? Let me look it up real quick.
- 28:14Whoever has the best NFL career is going to be top, Yeah.
- 28:16Dion Sanders, It's a dynamic. It's it's a power ranking.
- 28:19It goes. It's week to week.
- 28:21All right, Dion Sanders, kid. Power rankings.
- 28:24I kid you not. This is a real thing, he goes.
- 28:27Dion Sanders, Junior Shalomi. I don't know who that is.
- 28:33And then Shiloh, it sits right above.
- 28:36It sits right above. So Shiloh's number 3, Shudur's
- 28:39number four, and Deandra is #5. Wait, who?
- 28:42Who's 1 and 2? Dion Junior and Shalomi Shalami.
- 28:48It's probably not. It's probably not even close to
- 28:51that. That's how you pronounce it,
- 28:53considering Will's track record. Is that a boy or a girl?
- 28:57I do believe it's a girl. I don't know, but I'll take your
- 29:01word for it. All right, but Deion Junior?
- 29:06#1 yes. Who is that?
- 29:08Is he 5? How old?
- 29:10Is number 1. I don't know.
- 29:11No. How old is he?
- 29:13I know he's, I know he's one asking if he was five years old.
- 29:18Did he not play football? I don't know he he's 3, how
- 29:21could he be #31 play football? He's born at night.
- 29:24He's only 5 foot 7. How is this guy number one?
- 29:27OK, that. That makes sense.
- 29:29Why he? He played, he played SMU.
- 29:32Oh, he did flip from. Geez, yeah.
- 29:35From 2013, 2015 played defensive back.
- 29:38Other notable. Events Is he a coach?
- 29:40Is he a coach at Colorado? Now doesn't appear to.
- 29:43He's just hanging around there. Under other notable other
- 29:46notable events it says has a photo of himself in his dorm
- 29:48with Versace betting so clearly winner number one, yeah.
- 29:53Yeah, if that's on there, yeah, there's nothing else to post.
- 29:58There's an allegation by the Roll Right concert.
- 29:59I just admitted that. All right, well, on that note,
- 30:04let's get on to our last topic. I'm excited for this one.
- 30:06Me too. So our last topic for this
- 30:09episode is which single season NFL records could be broken in
- 30:132025? S Will, since we started with
- 30:16you last time, let's go ahead and start with Avery on this
- 30:18one. No, Joe, why don't you go first?
- 30:19On behalf of Avery and I, why don't you go first?
- 30:23Yeah, you want me to go first? Yeah, and if you take mine, I'm
- 30:25going to quit. I I will quit.
- 30:29I quit. I highly doubt that I'm going to
- 30:32take yours. OK, so for mine, for my single
- 30:35season record that could be broken in 2025, I went with
- 30:39completion percentage which was set by Drew Brees in 2018 with
- 30:4474.4%. So last season there were five
- 30:49quarterbacks who completed over 70% of their passes.
- 30:53Those five quarterbacks were Geno Smith, Joe Burrow, Baker
- 30:56Mayfield, Jared Goff, and Tua. So I narrowed that list down to
- 31:00two players who I think could potentially break the record
- 31:03this season. The first one I went with is Joe
- 31:06Burrow. And the reason why I went with
- 31:08Joe Burrow is because there are currently 2 quarterbacks in NFL
- 31:11history who have completed 70% or more of their passes multiple
- 31:16times in a full season, Drew Brees and Joe Burrow.
- 31:20And so he's already done it twice.
- 31:22He's one of two quarterbacks to do it more than once.
- 31:24Drew Brees did it 7 times, but Joe Burrow has done it more than
- 31:27once. And so the fact that he's done
- 31:29it already more than once tells me that he's going to probably
- 31:32do it again. And so if he's probably going to
- 31:34do it again, there's a good chance that he is going to
- 31:37challenge Drew Brees for that record.
- 31:39Now, the two times he's done it, he's had 70.4% and 70.6% of his
- 31:44passes completed. So he's on the lower end of 70%,
- 31:48but just the fact that he's in that same category as Drew Brees
- 31:52tells me that he has a chance to do it.
- 31:54The second player I picked is Baker Mayfield.
- 31:56So last season he completed 71.4% of his passes.
- 32:00This offseason they drafted Emeki Agbuca and Tez Johnson.
- 32:04So they put those two wide receivers in the wide receiver
- 32:07room with Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and Jalen McMillan.
- 32:11So he's got Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Jalen McMillan and Mecca
- 32:14Agbuca. Tez Johnson and Kate Auten.
- 32:16They're tight end and then he also has two really good
- 32:19receiving running backs in Bucky Irving and Rashad White.
- 32:23So I know Baker Mayfield did throw 16 interceptions last
- 32:26season, but he still completed 71.4% of his passes while doing
- 32:30that. So they went out, they got these
- 32:32receivers. Basically, the Buccaneers are
- 32:34telling us that they were already good at passing last
- 32:37year. They ranked third in passing
- 32:38yards. But now they're telling us, hey,
- 32:40we're still going to be good at passing.
- 32:42We're going to be one of the best teams in the NFL at passing
- 32:45the ball. We're going to pass the ball a
- 32:46lot and we're going to be good at it.
- 32:48And so that's why I think Baker Mayfield could potentially
- 32:52challenge Drew Brees for that record of completion percentage
- 32:54in the season. Dude, I'm just now once you said
- 32:57the Drew Brees thing, I looked that up.
- 32:58Jeez, what a what a season that was.
- 33:01And then also the the 342.3 yards per game average was a
- 33:08record. And I was like, how did he get
- 33:09that record but not the yards record?
- 33:12And then I remember Peyton Manning had the yards record and
- 33:15he was one, one yard above. And so they naturally, naturally
- 33:21they share the yards per game record because you can't divide
- 33:28a single yard into sixteens. Dude, Peyton Manning 5000 was
- 33:35that 5500? 55.
- 33:38Touchdowns. Oh, I thought about putting that
- 33:42record as the record that I was going to pick, but then I was
- 33:44like, no, there's no, there's no way.
- 33:48Even with 17 games, there's no way.
- 33:50Yeah like that's insane. That team scored like 37.9
- 33:54points a game. God.
- 33:56That wasn't even in Indy, Indianapolis.
- 33:58That was in Denver. That was like the end of his
- 34:01career. He did that stupid.
- 34:03I believe that was the year they got wrecked in the Super Bowl,
- 34:06but in the regular season they dominated.
- 34:08That was that was the safety. Open play safety Super Bowl.
- 34:12It was the Golden State Warriors.
- 34:14See Seahawks fans we talked about.
- 34:16The Golden State Warriors. We talked about your good Super
- 34:18Bowls too, Seahawks, OK, not just your bad.
- 34:21Correction. Good Super Bowl.
- 34:22You're right, my bad. And indirectly while glazing
- 34:25Peyton Manning, Yeah. Well, what do you guys think?
- 34:30What do you guys think of Joe Burrow or Baker Mayfield
- 34:32potentially challenging that? Record.
- 34:33I asked this question earlier. I like Joe.
- 34:35Is Joe Burrow good? He just said he was.
- 34:37I know, but is but is he I mean? I mean, he's been to the NFC
- 34:41Championship game twice. OK, Rex Grossman made the Super
- 34:43Bowl. OK.
- 34:45Once. Just once.
- 34:47But Joe Burress only made the Super Bowl once.
- 34:48How many times did Rex Grossman go to the the NFC?
- 34:51Champion. No, no, probably just the one
- 34:53time the dude was not good. Rex Grossman feels bad even
- 34:59working this out career stats. I just feel like if he had shown
- 35:06up, see that's a player you should be an overrated or
- 35:09underrated because that dude, that dude's overrated.
- 35:12He Rex personally played one complete season.
- 35:15He just happened to be the year they went to the Super Bowl.
- 35:17She's a nice wait. Joe Burrow has an NFL record for
- 35:22the most times being sacked in the postseason.
- 35:25Does he really? Yeah.
- 35:28Also, if you were to cut his career now, he already holds a
- 35:34career record for passing percentage 68.6% for his career.
- 35:39Oh, like his completion percentage?
- 35:41Yeah, we see that's thing. As the career goes on, chances
- 35:44are it's going to drop off. Yeah, so you have a choice.
- 35:47Do you want to go in the record books and miss out on a lot of
- 35:49money or keep playing and live to become the.
- 35:51Villain All the money, not necessarily all the money that
- 35:54comes from career completion percentage.
- 35:55He has to just keep up this this this S tier level play for
- 36:00forever, that's all. Drew Brees completed more than
- 36:0270% of his passes 7 times. Joe Burrows already done it
- 36:05twice, so that tells me he's going to do it again.
- 36:08So I think that percentage actually is going to go up.
- 36:10I have a hard time to screen. I just don't like it coming out
- 36:15of my mouth, you know what I'm saying?
- 36:17I mean, last year in the 11 games to have played, he threw a
- 36:2073% complete percentage 72.9. Yeah, but he's only done that
- 36:24once in his career. Joe Burrow is one of two
- 36:26quarterbacks in NFL history to complete 70% or more.
- 36:30OK, well this year, when 2 is the next quarterback to right
- 36:33next ring this guy to win the Super Bowl, he's gonna do it
- 36:35again. Dude, Joe.
- 36:37Burrow didn't have a. Joe had a phenomenal season.
- 36:41Yeah, except his team was terrible.
- 36:43OK, Joe had a phenomenal season. Sorry, his team was not
- 36:47terrible. His offense was great, his
- 36:49defect was terrible. Yeah, but you're right.
- 36:53Joe did a really good job last year.
- 36:55And Mark Stewart, with his 60 sacks, he's.
- 36:57Going to get this season. Don't get.
- 36:59The just shy of 5000 passing yards, 43 touchdowns, single
- 37:03digit interceptions, which means 9 but going 9 and 8, going nine
- 37:09and eight with that. Yikes.
- 37:11He's going to be the most let down player.
- 37:13Because you can only, you can only affect.
- 37:15I was playing superstar mode on Madden trying to, you know,
- 37:18catch up on some NFL knowledge and it didn't work.
- 37:22Lost a game. We lost a game.
- 37:24And by the way, like my guy was torching like this scrambling
- 37:27quarterback. I'm like, I don't even have to
- 37:29pass. Passing is actually less.
- 37:31Efficient than me just. Running out of the pocket and
- 37:33running. But we lost a game and it was
- 37:36because every time we simmed they scored.
- 37:38Every single time they had the ball.
- 37:40And one time I just didn't convert or whatever.
- 37:43And so we lost the game because the defense could not ever stop
- 37:47them. I was very let down.
- 37:48I could have just said nobody wins, but trying to have more
- 37:52integrity. That might be the most accurate
- 37:54that Madden's ever been. Yeah.
- 37:56Yeah. Yeah, both Peyton Manning and
- 37:59Drew Brees had the same record both those years, 13 and 3.
- 38:03I going back to what you said, Joel, I like it.
- 38:06I think there's a probably a pretty good possibility that
- 38:09offense didn't get worse. So the only problem is, is that
- 38:13they expect it now, right? That's the same problem with the
- 38:15running backs from from every team is that, oh, you expect it
- 38:19now and you expect this to happen.
- 38:21Thing is, is that pocket passing quarterbacks don't go out of
- 38:24style. You're running quarterbacks or
- 38:26scramblers. You can game plan against those.
- 38:28You can get game plan so much against your pocket passers.
- 38:32There's a reason that Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drewberry, so
- 38:35you guys will keep talking about had such long, prolific careers
- 38:38is because they stood in the pocket and they just moved the
- 38:40ball around. And I don't know what the number
- 38:42is, but it's an unreasonable amount of different receivers
- 38:46that Tom Brady threw a completion or threw a touchdown
- 38:48pass to. It's so many that, yeah, he
- 38:50didn't have. He did not care.
- 38:52He was just if you're there, I'm you're getting the ball, unless
- 38:55you're Rob Krakowski, He was getting the ball a lot.
- 38:58But I, I, I think it's, I think Joe Burrow is in the same.
- 39:02I'm not saying he's the same caliber player as those three,
- 39:04but if he continues in his career path to where he's going
- 39:07now, I think he has a possibility because big men only
- 39:10won two super. He only won one in the prime of
- 39:12his career. And so it's incredibly hard to
- 39:15win a Super Bowl, especially when and peg man had to deal
- 39:18with this with Tom Brady as his opposition, his AFC opposition
- 39:22and Joe Burrow has Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen and Pat
- 39:25Mahomes, arguably more tough competition in his own
- 39:29conference to even make it the Super Bowl little and win the
- 39:32day thing. And so I think it's I I do like
- 39:36him. I think he's I think he's a top
- 39:38ten quarterback in the NFL for sure.
- 39:40I, I do believe I've listened to him as such last week.
- 39:43Joe Burrow. Joe Burrow, I don't think he's,
- 39:46I don't think he's 10 or 9. He's definitely top 10.
- 39:49You had him as 5. Hey, great.
- 39:50He's a top five quarterback. See, I know what I said.
- 39:52I can remember the words I say. 5 is fives again.
- 39:54Top five is a good number and and so and there he is right
- 39:58there, right over your shoulder, Joe.
- 40:00He's just uninspiring I think because he's not doing the
- 40:03things that Pat Mahomes or Lamar Jettison doing or George Allen.
- 40:08You don't see Joe Burrow. Literally you've never talked to
- 40:10any under 30 NFL fan that's a girl because they are very
- 40:16inspired by. Joe Sheisty, OH.
- 40:19God, oh dude. Is it the way that is it the way
- 40:22that people were inspired by Tom Brady back in the day?
- 40:25Oh yeah, I'll just see a clip on on social media of Joe Pregame
- 40:30just walking from the sideline to the locker room and it's
- 40:35just, it's just someone filming. He's not doing anything.
- 40:38He's just walking and everyone in the comments is like Oh my
- 40:41God. I would leave my husband for
- 40:43that man in a second. I'm like.
- 40:44Yeah, for his. Money.
- 40:46You guys know who I'm inspired by is Josh Allen.
- 40:48He married Hailee Steinfeld. Dylan, my wife heard me say
- 40:50that, but. That's alright, she doesn't
- 40:52watch the show. My roommate Austin is in love
- 40:55with Hailee Steinfeld and I can't.
- 40:56I don't understand it. I don't understand it.
- 41:00Like good for him because like that's a bag.
- 41:02Like he bagged it. Like he.
- 41:04She plays a marvel. Superhero.
- 41:05A lot of a lot of people play Marvel superhero.
- 41:08At the stage whole Rd. And they're all very good
- 41:11looking. Thor, Captain America, Ant Man,
- 41:14just Haley's just. Like Mark Ruffalo, pal, not all
- 41:18of them are attractive. The Hulk is very good looking.
- 41:21Have you seen the muscles on that guy?
- 41:22On the Hulk, dude. I I.
- 41:28Forgot that guy was jacked. I could not have told you.
- 41:32Yeah. OK, we're getting off topic.
- 41:33Avery. What's your what's your what's
- 41:35your thing? So do your thing.
- 41:39I was, I was looking at Barkley and Henry for the rushing record
- 41:44because they got real close this past season.
- 41:47They did real close. But I don't even think they'll
- 41:50get it. I don't think they're going to
- 41:51get it. One, because the Madden Curse
- 41:54and not because of the Madden curse, but because they're
- 41:56running backs and they're going to break because that's what
- 41:59running backs do they break. I don't I don't I hate it.
- 42:03I wish I wish the running back position had much more longevity
- 42:07because it's one of the most exciting positions to watch.
- 42:10But like as soon as you get a running back that has like a
- 42:13breakout season on like a quarterback or a wide receiver
- 42:16where you could say, oh, like he's getting there.
- 42:19We've got some good years ahead of us with running backs.
- 42:22It's got to be like we have to enjoy this while it lasts
- 42:25because it's like going to go away.
- 42:27And I just don't think, I think the sheer mass that's on King
- 42:32Henry is going to not allow him. I think he's going to have a
- 42:35worst. I think both of those guys are
- 42:37going to have a significant drop off, not an injury wise.
- 42:41And if they have an injury, that's I guess that's still the
- 42:43same thing, But I don't think either of them are going to get
- 42:45back to where they were. So to answer your question, no
- 42:471S going to break the rushing record but.
- 42:49Let me let me say this real quick just to back that up.
- 42:52Last time there was back-to-back seasons where there was a 2000
- 42:55yard rusher in the NFL was when Barry Sanders did it in 1997 and
- 43:00Terrell Davis did it in 1998. Other than that, there's never
- 43:04been back-to-back 2000 yard rushing seasons in the history
- 43:08of the NFL. Yeah, it'd be really hard to do.
- 43:10It's a lot of yards. I just think it's it's a lot
- 43:12easier to like get one on the league when it's your first time
- 43:17in a specific situation. Like if you're a rookie, you
- 43:20know, like Dak and Zeke. I think just the fact that they
- 43:23were both new and like hit the ground running and no one had
- 43:26good scouting on him or anything.
- 43:28But after that, like you're not, you're not like immune from
- 43:32like, I don't know, I, I just feel like people are going to
- 43:34figure you out and you're going to get you're going to get shut
- 43:36down, especially if you're somebody who's on the Madden
- 43:38cover jumping over people setting records, winning the
- 43:41Super Bowl. Like, dude, people are, you're
- 43:43the new chiefs now. Like people are going to come at
- 43:45you and make sure you do not, you know, produce be.
- 43:49I don't think either of them. I think in fact, I'll even you
- 43:52could put this on the spreadsheet.
- 43:53I think this was Barclays peak and I don't even think that's
- 43:57much of A prediction. I think this was significantly
- 44:00his peak. I think.
- 44:01I don't think he gets anywhere near this again.
- 44:03Madden Curse. Madden Curse proved it right
- 44:05there. No, there's running backs.
- 44:07It's just a running. It's a running back.
- 44:08He's a running back all. Right.
- 44:10So Avery, so you're saying that no single season records will be
- 44:14broken this year? Not those, not the, not the big
- 44:16ones. There's a million records.
- 44:18ESPN just doing it like they're the Federal Reserve printing.
- 44:22Money. Just look at this record.
- 44:24He's the first one to do, you know, 25 plus receptions and you
- 44:28know this and that. It's just it's a mess the.
- 44:30First player to have 12 catches while wearing this colored
- 44:32jersey. Yeah.
- 44:33Yeah, yeah, on Thursday, Yeah. No one's breaking the rushing
- 44:39record. No one's breaking the passing
- 44:41record, but I do like Joel's completion percentage.
- 44:44One I, I think, I think Joe's got a pretty good shot at that.
- 44:47All right, Well, Will, if you had to pick a single season
- 44:50record to be broken, what would you pick?
- 44:51I would pick interceptions, and I don't mean like throwing them,
- 44:56I mean intercepting them. Isn't that like?
- 44:5814 The answer is 14 Yes, and the year was 1952.
- 45:02We have not had anything close since 2021 when Trayvon Davis
- 45:06did it for Dallas. He only had 11.
- 45:09He was 3. Short from time.
- 45:11That was a special. And everybody was like, oh, I
- 45:13saw one man. I saw one of those in person.
- 45:15Oh, that's crazy. I was at.
- 45:17I was at AT&T. State, let's let's talk about
- 45:19some of our starting quarterbacks in NFL.
- 45:21Let's talk about Justin Fields starting in in New York.
- 45:24The Jets, let's talk about this. About him throwing pit.
- 45:26Let's talk about Joe Flacco, maybe.
- 45:29Can you pick it? Maybe.
- 45:30Dylan Gabriel, Shidor Sanders. Let's talk about Aaron Rodgers,
- 45:33maybe, however one he lasts. And Mason Rudolph for Will
- 45:36Howard, Cam Ward, rookie Anthony Richardson, still a starter.
- 45:39Geno Smith, although very accurate, is going to have to
- 45:43play against the Broncos twice. And they've got an incredible
- 45:47secondary. We still have Dak Prescott, who
- 45:50does not throw as many interceptions as everybody likes
- 45:52to believe, but he does throw a lot.
- 45:55Caleb Williams, JJ McCarthy, the unknown, who knows what he's
- 45:58going to do as his second year rookie season.
- 46:00And then we take NFC South, where we have Michael Pennix,
- 46:04Bryce Young and Tyler Shuck as three of the four starting
- 46:08quarterbacks in the NFC South. And we've got Brock Purdy, who
- 46:12does not have the receivers he had last year.
- 46:14We've got Kyler Murray who is arguing getting better every
- 46:17single year, but still. But still can't see, can't.
- 46:20See over anybody. And then Sam Donald, who as we
- 46:23mentioned last week with our literal child we had on at the
- 46:26end of last season, was saying he was already starting to see
- 46:28ghosts again. If we get ghosts, Sam Darnold,
- 46:32it's going to be pick season next year.
- 46:35So both Trayvon Diggs and Night Train Lane, they were both and a
- 46:39lot of these are set by younger guys, rookies.
- 46:43And I think you hit on the head is that the NFL doesn't know
- 46:45what to expect. And so the tech started to take
- 46:47advantage of these guys. It doesn't work.
- 46:50We've got young guys like Travis Hunter going to Jacksonville.
- 46:53We've got Johnny Baron going to the Broncos.
- 46:56And so they're going to shy away from Pass or Tain and go towards
- 46:58Johnny Baron and he's going to be right there to get the ball
- 47:01with Johnson in Arizona. We've got some some good young
- 47:06corners coming to the league and we've got some bad quarterbacks
- 47:10playing. I would not be surprised if we
- 47:13had multiple people who were in the 8 plus range for
- 47:17interceptions and we had somebody pushing the record this
- 47:20year. Again, that was set in 1952.
- 47:23I mentioned the 2021 thing, but I'm looking to this list.
- 47:26The next closest besides 2021 is when Champ Bailey got 10 in
- 47:302006. You just don't get that many
- 47:33interceptions anymore. Double digit interceptions.
- 47:35It's like it's like off the charts nowadays.
- 47:38So it's the pretty bold prediction here.
- 47:40But I given the amount of rookies and just bad quarterback
- 47:45play I truly fear we're going to have, I think we have a shot.
- 47:48I think we have a shot this year.
- 47:49I just love, I love that you started that with interceptions.
- 47:55And I don't mean throwing them, I mean catching them.
- 47:57And then you go off on just every bad quarterback like this
- 48:01guy sucks, this guy even worse. This guy super sucks.
- 48:07It's not even going to be because of defensive back play.
- 48:10It's going to be. Because of second rate
- 48:12quarterbacks out there that shouldn't be out there.
- 48:14Yeah, and and and I guess that's not great, but, but if any of
- 48:19these starters get hurt, the only team that really has
- 48:22formidable backups, you've got Matt Stafford as Jimmy
- 48:25Garoppolo. You've got Kyler Murray, who's
- 48:27got Kobe Brissette, Matt Jones, who will probably end up being
- 48:30the starter in San Francisco once property gets hurt.
- 48:33That's what happens when you hit a big contract.
- 48:35Bryce Young has Andy Dalton. Dak has Joe Milton, Marcus
- 48:38Mariota in Washington. There's not a lot of formidable
- 48:41backups. Anthony Richardson has Daniel
- 48:43Jones equally as bad. It's not going to be good out
- 48:47there if any of these starters get hurt.
- 48:48It's not. I don't have high hopes.
- 48:51I think that's just for you. I'd be.
- 48:52Curious to see if I'd be curious to.
- 48:54I don't think it would be anyone player that would get that
- 48:57record. I would be curious what the
- 49:00record interception. Season in a.
- 49:02Season, yeah, that'd be interesting.
- 49:05But then again, if it was, you know, 70 years ago where they
- 49:08set that record, I'll bet a few guys probably got quite a few
- 49:12interceptions. While you're looking that up,
- 49:14Will, while you were talking, I thought while you're talking
- 49:17about all these young corners who could potentially do it, I
- 49:20thought you were going to say your favorite corner who's now a
- 49:23chief, Noah Williams. I mean, this is going to be a
- 49:26season for players like Noah Williams overthrown balls where
- 49:30you just happened to be in the area by accident.
- 49:33This is the season for you if you if your player awareness
- 49:37rating. Is that like a 5 Bowie Howdy
- 49:40sign you up this year? No player awareness 5 kicking
- 49:44windows. You just have this like a window
- 49:51deep cut. That is a deep cut all.
- 49:53Right. So you didn't pick a specific
- 49:55player to do it, you just think that someone can do it because.
- 49:58The quarterback, I surely think Dragon Baron has a really high
- 50:01shot because things are naturally going to fade away
- 50:04from Pat certain and so he's just going to get a target a lot
- 50:07and he's got the skills and capabilities to do it.
- 50:10He's got the ability to be there and to be the player to do it.
- 50:14So I I like him a lot. I don't know if he's going to be
- 50:16the one to do it, but I it'll be rough.
- 50:19The record for most interceptions thrown in a single
- 50:23season will never be broken again.
- 50:25That is going to be the most unbreakable record, 42 in one
- 50:29season. Oh, by a single quarterback.
- 50:31Single quarterback. Yeah.
- 50:32Who was the coach fired? I don't know.
- 50:37Why did you keep letting this guy throw the?
- 50:39Ball George Bland Of course you're annoying to turn the
- 50:41ball. How many touchdowns?
- 50:44I don't know, give me a. Second watching that like. 80.
- 50:49What what? What's the acceptable amount of
- 50:50touchdowns you have to throw to be able to throw 43?
- 50:54It's not 27, that's. The reason I ask, the reason I
- 50:59ask is because I'm playing on that Madden game.
- 51:01I'm playing it's on a it's on a normal diff, it's on pro
- 51:05difficulty. And I'm, I don't know how to
- 51:07play the game and I cannot read these coverages and these
- 51:11linebackers are out of this world athletic.
- 51:15And I like can't I have to like they have to do a cross route.
- 51:18But my point is my percentage has to be like 40 percent, 35%,
- 51:24but I'll also throw like 6 touchdowns a game, just volume,
- 51:28volume. And so I wonder like when
- 51:30they're like this guy has one of the worst percentages in the
- 51:33league and I'm like, dude, we are crushing it.
- 51:35So I just wonder like how many, how many touchdowns you have to
- 51:38throw to be able to get away with 43 let.
- 51:40Me tell you it had nothing to do with how many touchdowns he
- 51:43threw. He threw 42 interceptions that
- 51:46year. Their record was a 13 and three.
- 51:49No, that's too many. That's too many games.
- 51:51That's too many games 11 and 3. Excuse me.
- 51:53First in the AFL, E how everybody else is worse.
- 51:57Apparently you don't know how to capitalize on a turnover.
- 51:59No one could. Capitalize off the turn.
- 52:01They were. They had 9 turnovers in one
- 52:04game. Now granted they lost that game,
- 52:06but a different game. They had 7 turnovers and won
- 52:09that game. Did George Blanda threw over 20
- 52:11interceptions 8 times in his career?
- 52:13That is so bad. 20 interceptions in a game.
- 52:18No, No 8 times. In a season he threw, he threw
- 52:23over 20 interceptions in a season 8 different times.
- 52:26And they lost in his career. The Houston lawyers lost the
- 52:29Super Bowl that year 20 to 17, probably because he threw 40
- 52:32interceptions. He threw five.
- 52:34Well, they had five turnovers that game.
- 52:36That's so bad. 11 and three the record will ever be. 2800
- 52:40passing yards. Actually, you know someone who
- 52:43could break that record. James famous Jamus because he
- 52:46would just. If he's the starter for the
- 52:47giant. Seat, he would just smooth talk
- 52:49his way back into the game and that he would just do.
- 52:51It if he was on Florida State this past year, he would have
- 52:54broken that record. Because who were they?
- 52:58Going to take him out for already like losing every game.
- 53:02All right, all right, we got to wrap it up.
- 53:04All right, thanks for tuning into this episode of Three Guys
- 53:076 Balls NFL Podcast. Stay tuned for more NFL talk
- 53:10next week. We'll be back.
