- 0:05Speaker 1: The markets are heated up right now with Tesla news,
- 0:08Speaker 1: everybody's asking the status of Elon, what he should do today.
- 0:11Speaker 1: We're going to dive into that and give you guys
- 0:13Speaker 1: some insights. My name is Paul Bara, Welcome back in
- 0:16Speaker 1: the tech path. Let's just kick it off real quick.
- 0:18Speaker 1: I want to frame this up and then we're going
- 0:20Speaker 1: to bring on our guest ros Gerber to talk about
- 0:23Speaker 1: where Elon could be going. But this is a recap
- 0:26Speaker 1: of what's happening right now on social media, primarily TikTok.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Take a look breaking news.
- 0:31Speaker 3: Tesla's around the nation are currently being targeted and vandalized.
- 0:38Speaker 4: The site went live on March eighteenth with an interactive
- 0:41Speaker 4: map of the United States that displays the names, home addresses,
- 0:43Speaker 4: email addresses, and phone numbers of Tesla customers.
- 0:48Speaker 3: Has removed Tesla as a participant in this week's event.
- 0:51Speaker 2: We will stop giving incentives to buy Tesla. I've never
- 0:55Speaker 2: done anything off of I only done productive things.
- 0:59Speaker 3: Glossy.
- 1:00Speaker 2: It's fine, no way.
- 1:02Speaker 5: But three figures.
- 1:04Speaker 3: We really should well these bumpers on, but that takes
- 1:08Speaker 3: time equipment, so we use super super glue instead.
- 1:14Speaker 5: Trying to compete. Why do you laugh?
- 1:16Speaker 2: Have you seen their car? Look how cute it is.
- 1:22Speaker 2: It's like fifteen thousand dollars.
- 1:31Speaker 3: And it just popped up pretty recently and you can
- 1:33Speaker 3: see it's absolutely massive.
- 1:35Speaker 4: BYD this week unveil the fast charging system that can
- 1:39Speaker 4: recharge a vehicle in five minutes. Oh chares in BYD
- 1:49Speaker 4: are up by around half so far this year, and
- 1:52Speaker 4: Tesla are down by almost the same amount.
- 1:54Speaker 2: Tesla stock keeps crashing.
- 1:55Speaker 5: Am I finally buying the stock?
- 1:57Speaker 1: They're expecting two million vehicle deliveries in twenty twenty five.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Therefore, I'm not buying the stock many.
- 2:09Speaker 1: But the main thing is I wanted you guys to
- 2:11Speaker 1: see a full rundown of what has been happening to
- 2:14Speaker 1: the Tesla brand. So joining me is Ross Gerber, who's
- 2:16Speaker 1: the co founder, president and CEO of Gerber Kawasaki Wealth
- 2:20Speaker 1: and Investment. Great to see you, Ross, How are you?
- 2:22Speaker 5: Yeah, Thanks for having me.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Let's get into it. Ross, We've got to talk about
- 2:26Speaker 1: brand damage potentially here for Tesla. Give me your frame.
- 2:30Speaker 1: You've seen the clips. I'm sure you've been watching what's
- 2:32Speaker 1: going on with social It is an absolute nightmare right now.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Talk to me about how this impacts the brand.
- 2:39Speaker 3: You know, I haven't seen those clips because I actually
- 2:42Speaker 3: don't use social media for this exact reason.
- 2:45Speaker 5: Good for you, social media. You know.
- 2:47Speaker 3: It's just this like one two punch of negative marketing
- 2:51Speaker 3: and actually creating fear in Tesla owners that their cars
- 2:54Speaker 3: are going to be agnalized, including myself, to be honest,
- 2:57Speaker 3: and I drive a cyber truck and I love the
- 2:59Speaker 3: view and I love Tesla, and I can't believe that
- 3:02Speaker 3: they've let this happen.
- 3:03Speaker 5: To the brand.
- 3:04Speaker 1: And to that point, this is a good example of it.
- 3:07Speaker 1: Tesla could face another challenge. This is major insurance companies
- 3:11Speaker 1: now save Co, Liberty, Mutual, Geico reportingly that they're classifying
- 3:16Speaker 1: the cyber truck as ineligible for coverage. So that of
- 3:19Speaker 1: course affects cyber truck sales immediately if you're you know,
- 3:23Speaker 1: in that kind of scenario. Now, I know Tesla has
- 3:25Speaker 1: their own insurance company in certain states, but how big
- 3:29Speaker 1: of a hit do you think that would take on
- 3:32Speaker 1: Tesla if we did see an industry wide ban on
- 3:35Speaker 1: some of these vehicles.
- 3:37Speaker 3: Well, that's an extreme thing, you know, to see them
- 3:40Speaker 3: ban the cyber truck.
- 3:41Speaker 5: I don't know why. I mean, the cyber truck drives great,
- 3:43Speaker 5: it's a safe vehicle. You know. I actually did.
- 3:47Speaker 3: Dent my cyber truck and had to take it in
- 3:49Speaker 3: and have panels replaced, and it was no problem.
- 3:52Speaker 5: You know.
- 3:53Speaker 3: Once again, there's this like massive hate coming towards a
- 3:57Speaker 3: company that makes great vehicles that are electric, that have
- 4:01Speaker 3: like kind of changed the whole world of passenger vehicles
- 4:05Speaker 3: to the electric side. And yet there's like this extrapolation
- 4:10Speaker 3: out that Tesla is Elon, and Elon is Tesla. So
- 4:12Speaker 3: if we attack this great company somehow, we're getting back
- 4:16Speaker 3: an Elon, And that's just silly. You're hurting people who
- 4:20Speaker 3: care about the environment, you know. And so what we
- 4:23Speaker 3: really need to do is assess the blame where it
- 4:26Speaker 3: needs to be blamed, and that's on Elon for his
- 4:29Speaker 3: behavior and a board of directors that refuses to hold
- 4:32Speaker 3: him accountable to anything. And then the fact that he
- 4:35Speaker 3: doesn't even work there on top of it. So you know,
- 4:38Speaker 3: he does some all hands meeting last night because he
- 4:41Speaker 3: probably saw that I'm saying that he doesn't work at
- 4:44Speaker 3: Tesla anymore, so he makes this public meeting, you know, like,
- 4:47Speaker 3: ah see, I work at Tesla. I zoom in for
- 4:50Speaker 3: some public meeting online. I mean, that's not working at
- 4:53Speaker 3: your company and solving the very difficult problems that Tesla
- 4:56Speaker 3: needs to solve with full self driving.
- 4:58Speaker 5: For example, I.
- 4:59Speaker 1: Want to play that clip because this is the all
- 5:02Speaker 1: hands speech that you're referencing, and for our audience, this
- 5:06Speaker 1: will give you a framework of what happened.
- 5:08Speaker 6: Take a look the stock market is is it's a
- 5:11Speaker 6: very strange thing. Tesla stock goes up and it goes down.
- 5:15Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 5:15Speaker 6: I guess it's just very emotional, you know, so so overall,
- 5:21Speaker 6: you know it's good. If you read the news, it
- 5:24Speaker 6: feels like, you know, imageddon. I can't walk past the
- 5:26Speaker 6: TV without seeing a Tesla on fire, Like what's going on?
- 5:30Speaker 2: But you don't have to burn it down?
- 5:32Speaker 6: That's a bet unreasonable, you know, like.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Like this is psycho still being psycho. Okay.
- 5:43Speaker 6: You know you want to critique yourself, you want to
- 5:44Speaker 6: internalize responsibility, and these are all things I need to
- 5:48Speaker 6: remind myself of internalized responsibility.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Feel us wrong? And if you wouldn't really want to.
- 5:57Speaker 6: Watch a show where things are a great and stake,
- 6:00Speaker 6: I'm like, oh, it's boring. You want to watch a
- 6:02Speaker 6: show where there's like where things go up and they
- 6:04Speaker 6: go down, they go back up again, and you know,
- 6:06Speaker 6: you know exactly what's going to happen next. So we're
- 6:08Speaker 6: just going to keep the ratings up so we don't
- 6:10Speaker 6: get canceled. The future of Tesla is incredibly bright. The
- 6:18Speaker 6: Optimists will be the biggest product of old time by far.
- 6:23Speaker 2: I think it'll be ten times.
- 6:24Speaker 6: Bigger than the next biggest product ever made.
- 6:29Speaker 2: You say, will the robot take your job? Or what? Yeah?
- 6:33Speaker 6: Like, is a robot gonna come and steal your job?
- 6:36Speaker 6: A reasonable question. I think that's probably the best future.
- 6:39Speaker 6: I can't I what other future would you want? I
- 6:41Speaker 6: think that's like the cool future and also space travel,
- 6:44Speaker 6: not forget.
- 6:44Speaker 1: That all right, some very interesting statements I think by
- 6:48Speaker 1: Elon your opinion right now? Should Elon leave Tesla, leave
- 6:53Speaker 1: Doge or just get out of both?
- 6:56Speaker 5: Would? What would you coach?
- 6:58Speaker 3: Von?
- 6:58Speaker 5: Well?
- 6:59Speaker 3: If I had my choice, I'd love to see Elon
- 7:01Speaker 3: come back to Tesla and work full time at the
- 7:03Speaker 3: company and solve the problems that Tesla needs to solve. Certainly,
- 7:06Speaker 3: if Elon puts his mind to things, he can accomplish
- 7:09Speaker 3: tremendous things. And he's putting his mind into solving the
- 7:12Speaker 3: governmental problems of the United States, which I think is
- 7:15Speaker 3: a worthwhile cause. So I don't want to put poo that.
- 7:19Speaker 3: But I'm a shareholder of Tesla. I represent shareholders of Tesla,
- 7:23Speaker 3: and so the best solution for Tesla would him to stop,
- 7:27Speaker 3: you know, obviously saying pro nazi and right wing rhetoric
- 7:32Speaker 3: and as well as you know, getting back to work
- 7:35Speaker 3: at the company. Because when Tesla did the best was
- 7:37Speaker 3: when Elon slept at the factory.
- 7:39Speaker 5: So why don't we just start there, you know.
- 7:41Speaker 1: If he were to come back to Tesla, the potential
- 7:45Speaker 1: there right now, because obviously we're going to talk about
- 7:47Speaker 1: byd here in a second. There's a lot of competition globally,
- 7:50Speaker 1: especially in China, that's right of where this can go.
- 7:53Speaker 1: And granted here in the United States. If he were
- 7:56Speaker 1: to do it, if he were to say, step away
- 7:58Speaker 1: from DOJE and actually come back as the CEO and
- 8:01Speaker 1: operational CEO of Tesla, do you think all things would
- 8:03Speaker 1: stop or do you think it would still continue.
- 8:06Speaker 3: He's not going to do that, So we could hypothetically
- 8:10Speaker 3: discuss will he stop tweeting right wing rhetoric at the
- 8:14Speaker 3: German government. No, I don't think he is, and so
- 8:16Speaker 3: it doesn't solve the problem from an optics perspective, But
- 8:21Speaker 3: trying to launch a robocab that doesn't work is a
- 8:23Speaker 3: bigger problem in my mind, you know.
- 8:26Speaker 5: So I don't know which problem is bigger.
- 8:27Speaker 3: You know, not being able to sell cars or having
- 8:30Speaker 3: a robotaxi that doesn't work. But we've got both problems,
- 8:33Speaker 3: and certainly whoever is running Tesla has to deal with this,
- 8:38Speaker 3: you know. It's certainly Elon doesn't look that stressed about it.
- 8:42Speaker 3: He kind of thinks it's funny, I guess, you know,
- 8:44Speaker 3: like a jo that there's thousands of people at Tesla
- 8:48Speaker 3: who literally are fearful to go to work, and he
- 8:52Speaker 3: thinks this is just funny or some inconvenience, And that's
- 8:56Speaker 3: what I'm saying. He literally says, like, oh, internalizing responsibility,
- 8:59Speaker 3: and he kind of looked set himself and then he
- 9:01Speaker 3: kind of laughs. You can see his thought process just
- 9:03Speaker 3: in that clip where he disassociates himself from the responsibility
- 9:08Speaker 3: for his own actions that caused this problem, and then
- 9:12Speaker 3: he blames the liberals or the rich liberals, or the
- 9:16Speaker 3: Jews or whoever he wants to blame for like everybody
- 9:21Speaker 3: who's attacking Teslas, but liberals drive Teslas, so it's like
- 9:24Speaker 3: liberals attacking other liberals, you know, And that's the craziest
- 9:28Speaker 3: thing about this whole situation.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Well, let's talk about some of the impacts, because obviously
- 9:33Speaker 1: the stock price is down, the potential of sales is
- 9:36Speaker 1: going to get hit. We've seen this script before. If
- 9:39Speaker 1: you look at you know, my pillow. This is a
- 9:41Speaker 1: perfect example of someone who kind of took on establishment,
- 9:44Speaker 1: took some political positions, harmed his company. Now he's got
- 9:48Speaker 1: fraud claims, all sorts of things that are driving a
- 9:52Speaker 1: lot of pressure on revenues, and of course this is
- 9:54Speaker 1: going to continue to go in that direction. You also
- 9:57Speaker 1: look at the potential EV tax credit. This why must
- 10:00Speaker 1: support Trump getting rid of the EV tax credit. He's
- 10:03Speaker 1: got a lot of long term effect that this is
- 10:06Speaker 1: good for Tesla long term, there will be short term pain.
- 10:09Speaker 5: Do you agree with that? If EV tax.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Credits went away right now, how much of an impact
- 10:14Speaker 1: would that be on Tesla?
- 10:15Speaker 5: Massive? It would be a massive impact.
- 10:17Speaker 3: I mean, Tesla's already discounting cars left and right to
- 10:20Speaker 3: get them out the door, and so you can buy
- 10:23Speaker 3: like the old version of the model Why which is
- 10:25Speaker 3: still for sale for like thirty four thousand dollars new
- 10:28Speaker 3: that used to be a fifty to sixty thousand dollars
- 10:30Speaker 3: car just a few years ago. And the new model
- 10:33Speaker 3: Why Wish they're launching, you know, for around sixty thousand dollars.
- 10:36Speaker 3: And I caution owners, if you buy this car for
- 10:39Speaker 3: sixty thousand dollars is going to be worth forty thousand
- 10:41Speaker 3: dollars in a year, so be prepared for rapid depreciation
- 10:45Speaker 3: of value. And I highly recommend people lease their car
- 10:49Speaker 3: and locking the resale price today versus trusting that the
- 10:54Speaker 3: value isn't going to drop precipitously, because almost every Tesla
- 10:58Speaker 3: owner today is underwater on their cars. And that's the
- 11:00Speaker 3: number one reason why they're not selling them is they
- 11:02Speaker 3: simply can't. But I talked to a friend after friend after
- 11:06Speaker 3: friend who've sold their Tesla and they've bought all the competitors,
- 11:10Speaker 3: and the competitor cars which you just brought up, which
- 11:12Speaker 3: I know you want to talk about UID, but that's
- 11:14Speaker 3: not just the only one. The European competitors are quite
- 11:17Speaker 3: good now with BMW and Mercedes on the Reshire. You
- 11:20Speaker 3: got it, Yeah, Chinese love the new EV's coming from
- 11:24Speaker 3: Chinese ev makers. So it used to be like Tesla
- 11:28Speaker 3: was like Apple, where everybody's like, oh, I want to
- 11:30Speaker 3: have a Tesla and I want to have an iPhone.
- 11:31Speaker 3: And now in China everybody doesn't care about Apple, and
- 11:34Speaker 3: they don't care about Tesla anymore.
- 11:35Speaker 5: They like Shaomi.
- 11:37Speaker 1: I want to just stay on the Elon for a second,
- 11:39Speaker 1: and I want to talk about government. The Department of
- 11:41Speaker 1: Government Efficiency does There's been some theory and Elon and
- 11:45Speaker 1: I think even Trump has mentioned that that potentially these
- 11:49Speaker 1: savings could convert to some sort of dividend that would
- 11:52Speaker 1: come back to Americans. All right, now, I love you
- 11:55Speaker 1: your immediate statement and candord there, but if that did happen,
- 11:59Speaker 1: do you think that would alleviate the pressure on Elon
- 12:03Speaker 1: and Tesla? If he said, Okay, we're going to just
- 12:05Speaker 1: do a dividend.
- 12:06Speaker 3: If you pay it Americans, If you pay Americans the
- 12:10Speaker 3: money that supposedly we're saving. Sending every American a check
- 12:14Speaker 3: signed by Elon Musk and Donald Trump creates inflation, and
- 12:18Speaker 3: it's exactly opposite of what Dodge is supposed to be doing,
- 12:21Speaker 3: which is cutting spending. So there's meaningful cuts to the
- 12:24Speaker 3: deficit and the debt of the United States of America.
- 12:28Speaker 3: We all can agree that the debts of the United
- 12:31Speaker 3: States of America are massive and need to be addressed,
- 12:34Speaker 3: and two trillion dollars a year deficits have to be addressed.
- 12:37Speaker 3: So where does this money come from to send everybody
- 12:41Speaker 3: a dividend check? It comes from the supposed savings of Dodge. Well,
- 12:45Speaker 3: then we didn't save any money, and we didn't save
- 12:47Speaker 3: any money at all, and then we just cause inflation.
- 12:49Speaker 3: It's literally the dumbest idea I've heard to think that
- 12:52Speaker 3: they're going to buy off Americans to like this idea.
- 12:55Speaker 5: It's just not going to work.
- 12:57Speaker 1: Well, it's happened before.
- 12:58Speaker 5: We've seen that. Yeah, those checks before, and what happened
- 13:01Speaker 5: we had inflation.
- 13:02Speaker 1: We saw inflation rampid. Markets go to all time highs. Yes,
- 13:06Speaker 1: we've seen that before. Let's talk about holdings.
- 13:08Speaker 5: You guys are, and then they get crushed when the
- 13:11Speaker 5: Fed raises rates.
- 13:12Speaker 1: Yes, exactly, yeah, exactly, which is where we are right now.
- 13:16Speaker 1: But again, if you're playing the market on that upswing,
- 13:18Speaker 1: then of course you're a lot better off.
- 13:20Speaker 5: You guys are.
- 13:20Speaker 1: Holding quite a bit here obviously in video got Tesla
- 13:23Speaker 1: in that position, as well as Apple, a handful of others, Netflix,
- 13:26Speaker 1: et cetera. Is there why not get rid of Taesla
- 13:29Speaker 1: right right now?
- 13:30Speaker 2: Then?
- 13:30Speaker 3: With all this pressure, Well, we sell Tesla every quarter
- 13:35Speaker 3: for clients. But you know, we have about eight to
- 13:38Speaker 3: ten thousand clients at GUK. We're growing extremely rapidly right now,
- 13:42Speaker 3: and many of our clients and fans are Tesla shareholders
- 13:45Speaker 3: and have been Tesla shareholders for.
- 13:47Speaker 5: A long time.
- 13:47Speaker 3: And we've made one hundred times our money on Tesla,
- 13:50Speaker 3: so it's a record trait. So imagine you have a
- 13:53Speaker 3: position that's worth one hundred million, but your cost basis
- 13:56Speaker 3: is worth you know, like a couple million. Right, So
- 13:59Speaker 3: every time we felt Tesla, we pay taxes. And we
- 14:01Speaker 3: have a core group of clients that still very much
- 14:04Speaker 3: believe in Tesla and have you know, some of them
- 14:07Speaker 3: millions of dollars in the position. And we've worked hard
- 14:10Speaker 3: to help limit downside for them and create hedges. And
- 14:14Speaker 3: you know, I personally own the stock too. Still, you know,
- 14:18Speaker 3: it's hard to poo pooh what the upside is for
- 14:21Speaker 3: Tesla if they're refocused. That's why I'm saying all the
- 14:24Speaker 3: things I'm saying is because we own the stock. You know,
- 14:27Speaker 3: if I didn't own the stock, I wouldn't care. But
- 14:29Speaker 3: I care because I care about my clients. Okay, this
- 14:32Speaker 3: is about my clients and my family and me. We
- 14:35Speaker 3: own Tesla.
- 14:36Speaker 5: There's thousands of our clients that own Tesla and want
- 14:39Speaker 5: to see it succeed.
- 14:40Speaker 3: But when they call me up saying what is Elon doing?
- 14:43Speaker 3: He's now blaming civil servants for the Holocaust, or he's
- 14:48Speaker 3: you know, doing this, and I go, stop watching this.
- 14:51Speaker 3: We drive great cars that are great for the environment.
- 14:54Speaker 3: I just survived a climate disaster.
- 14:56Speaker 5: You know. I'm actually filming here from the Palisades.
- 14:59Speaker 3: I'm the only resident of the Palisades at this point
- 15:02Speaker 3: who's been able to move back to my house. I
- 15:04Speaker 3: literally live with like National Guard down the street right
- 15:08Speaker 3: here actually, And so for me, climate change is my mission.
- 15:12Speaker 3: It's been my mission since I started with Tesla over
- 15:14Speaker 3: a decade ago. We now have electric vehicles all over
- 15:18Speaker 3: the place from every car manufacturer. Tesla has been hugely
- 15:21Speaker 3: successful in its core mission, and I want to keep
- 15:24Speaker 3: it on. That's mission, and it's way bigger and it's
- 15:26Speaker 3: way more important than Elon Musk. I am sorry, who
- 15:29Speaker 3: gives a shit about Elon? Who cares? Who cares? It's
- 15:33Speaker 3: about what's best for Earth and building safer cars and
- 15:37Speaker 3: saving people's lives and building vehicles that will make a
- 15:42Speaker 3: huge impact on the use of carbon emissions.
- 15:44Speaker 5: Which is exactly what's happening.
- 15:47Speaker 3: We can't give up now in the fact he's working
- 15:49Speaker 3: with Trump, who's working against all of these goals. Taking
- 15:53Speaker 3: away the EV tax credit is hugely detrimental to test.
- 15:58Speaker 3: What is he talking about? You know, you think about
- 16:02Speaker 3: that just logically for five seconds. Oh, I'm going to
- 16:05Speaker 3: take add twenty percent to the cost of a Tesla.
- 16:08Speaker 3: That shouldn't hurt us at all. I'm like, no, it's
- 16:10Speaker 3: going to destroy you. So I don't want to see
- 16:13Speaker 3: Tesla get destroyed. I don't want the stock going down
- 16:16Speaker 3: any further. And the only way that's going to happen
- 16:18Speaker 3: is if somebody comes in there and shows that this
- 16:21Speaker 3: company is under control and that it separates itself from
- 16:24Speaker 3: the negative vibes that he keeps sending everybody's way.
- 16:28Speaker 1: If you look at the things that would have to
- 16:31Speaker 1: happen to pull Tesla out of this slump right now,
- 16:35Speaker 1: what you see in a forecast, because this seems to
- 16:37Speaker 1: be getting worse and worse in the market, both by
- 16:40Speaker 1: people who own Tesla's and people who of course are
- 16:44Speaker 1: on the other side of Elon right now and are
- 16:46Speaker 1: protesting this.
- 16:47Speaker 2: What do you think.
- 16:47Speaker 3: I think it's getting worse and worse, and I don't
- 16:49Speaker 3: think these people are going away.
- 16:51Speaker 5: At some point, something's going to break.
- 16:53Speaker 3: So I broke this week and said it's time for
- 16:54Speaker 3: Elon to put somebody else in charge of Tesla, to
- 16:57Speaker 3: do a massive marketing campaign, you know, on television about
- 17:01Speaker 3: Tesla and how great of a brand and what it
- 17:03Speaker 3: does for the environment, and for him to publicly, you know,
- 17:07Speaker 3: sort of say hey, look, I'm still working at Tesla.
- 17:10Speaker 3: I'm not not working anymore, but my role is going
- 17:13Speaker 3: to be different now because I work at the government,
- 17:15Speaker 3: and I don't want what I do with the government
- 17:17Speaker 3: to affect Tesla. So I'm selflessly going to step aside
- 17:22Speaker 3: so that what's best for the environment in Tesla won't
- 17:26Speaker 3: be marred up with what I want to do, which
- 17:29Speaker 3: is worked with Trump, which is fine, but spare us
- 17:32Speaker 3: this nonsense that I you know, people driving their Tesla's
- 17:37Speaker 3: are literally like fearful not just a vandalism, but like
- 17:42Speaker 3: the perception that they support this guy. You know, once again,
- 17:45Speaker 3: you can go up in front of a lot of
- 17:47Speaker 3: people who you pay money to work for you and
- 17:48Speaker 3: make jokes about this whole situation, but we're all living
- 17:51Speaker 3: in it.
- 17:52Speaker 5: They're living in it, and it's not a joke.
- 17:54Speaker 3: And we don't get to fly off in our golfstream
- 17:56Speaker 3: back to Washington to go putter around the White House
- 17:59Speaker 3: and pretend like I'm cutting costs by firing a bunch
- 18:02Speaker 3: of old people. So the whole optics of the whole situation,
- 18:05Speaker 3: I mean, can you think of any business situation like
- 18:08Speaker 3: this in history?
- 18:10Speaker 1: I've never seen one.
- 18:10Speaker 5: No, never seen one.
- 18:12Speaker 1: And this is the concern I have right now is
- 18:14Speaker 1: I don't know that even if Elon were to step away,
- 18:16Speaker 1: that the damage may have been done permanently, yeah this brand,
- 18:20Speaker 1: or at least yeah, or at least in the near term.
- 18:23Speaker 1: You know, sure everybody forgets over years, But can Tesla
- 18:26Speaker 1: hold on when you have the Chinese charging so hard,
- 18:30Speaker 1: the Germans charging so hard to come into this market.
- 18:33Speaker 1: When it comes to EV's last, well to talking.
- 18:36Speaker 3: About the two elements that make this so potentially disruptive
- 18:40Speaker 3: for the stock is you have real competition and you
- 18:42Speaker 3: have real brand damage, and assessing whether that damage is
- 18:46Speaker 3: actually recoverable is really hard to assess. I still, at
- 18:50Speaker 3: heart believe that Tesla could recover because people forget pretty
- 18:54Speaker 3: quickly if the person goes away.
- 18:56Speaker 5: But the person isn't going away, you know. I mean,
- 18:59Speaker 5: I can think this up into Lulu Lemons.
- 19:01Speaker 3: He most people don't realize that the fact Mary Lemon
- 19:04Speaker 3: was a racist or something like that and said derogatory
- 19:07Speaker 3: things and Lulu's like a total lefty brand, right, and
- 19:11Speaker 3: and the company was hurt and the guy disappeared. I
- 19:13Speaker 3: don't even know his name, you know what I'm saying,
- 19:15Speaker 3: And nobody thinks about that. And I would argue you
- 19:18Speaker 3: could say the same thing about Volkswagen was you know,
- 19:22Speaker 3: Hitler's car company, And you know, Ford was a Nazi,
- 19:26Speaker 3: And I don't think people driving Fords realized that Henry
- 19:28Speaker 3: Ford was a total freaking Nazi, like all out.
- 19:32Speaker 5: He made Elon look like a shy not you know
- 19:35Speaker 5: what I mean, just look it up.
- 19:37Speaker 1: Well, I think the last point I'll make here on
- 19:39Speaker 1: Elon is that he's not going away, And even if
- 19:41Speaker 1: if he were to step away from Tesla. My concern
- 19:44Speaker 1: is that the brand damage may not be recoverable because
- 19:46Speaker 1: he is in such a political public eye that could
- 19:50Speaker 1: be forgotten. Yeah, so that's the challenge I think that
- 19:53Speaker 1: the industry is definitely going to face. Hey, listen, I
- 19:55Speaker 1: know you got to go, but I always love having
- 19:57Speaker 1: you come in and give us some insights on Tesla.
- 19:59Speaker 5: We appreciate. Thanks so much. Yeah, let's hope for the best,
