- 0:02Speaker 1: This is a Bramble Jam podcast. Welcome to Girls gott Hallmark,
- 0:24Speaker 1: a Hallmark review podcast. I Magan and I'm a longtime
- 0:26Speaker 1: Hallmark fan.
- 0:27Speaker 2: I'm Wendy. I'm a former Hallmark hater.
- 0:30Speaker 1: On today's episode, we're discussing to Barcelona Forever, which originally
- 0:34Speaker 1: premiered on the Hallmark Channel on Saturday, June fourteenth, and
- 0:37Speaker 1: is currently streaming on the Hallmark Plus streaming platform. We'd
- 0:43Speaker 1: love for you to hang out with us after the podcast,
- 0:46Speaker 1: where we are Girls Gone Hallmark on Instagram and coming
- 0:51Speaker 1: up a little later in the episode, we have a
- 0:54Speaker 1: visit from a very special guest. You're gonna want to
- 0:57Speaker 1: stay tuned for that.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Hey, if you who are looking for a Facebook group
- 1:02Speaker 2: with fellow Hallmark fans, we have one for you. It's
- 1:07Speaker 2: called Girls Gone Hallmark in Facebook groups. You know, I
- 1:11Speaker 2: peeked in there last night. We're recording this on Monday morning.
- 1:13Speaker 2: I peeked in there last night, last Sunday night. It
- 1:17Speaker 2: was kind of quiet.
- 1:19Speaker 1: No one was talking about this movie, and I wonder
- 1:22Speaker 1: if they're scared.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Come on, are you for real right now? Did you
- 1:30Speaker 2: think I gave them a lashing in there?
- 1:32Speaker 3: Night?
- 1:32Speaker 2: Wasn't even close to it.
- 1:34Speaker 1: No, I thought you were very fair in your post,
- 1:37Speaker 1: which we'll talk about in a little bit later in
- 1:39Speaker 1: this episode. But I was surprised that there wasn't a
- 1:42Speaker 1: single comment about this movie, particularly given that there was
- 1:45Speaker 1: a ton of talk about the first one. So if
- 1:49Speaker 1: you're in that group, get in there and make it happen, y'all.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:52Speaker 1: I also think it speaks to the fact there's not
- 1:54Speaker 1: like a whole lot happening. You know, there's this movie,
- 1:56Speaker 1: but there's not a whole lot happened on Hallmark right now, a.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Whole bunch of reruns if you didn't know, that's what's
- 2:07Speaker 2: coming to Helmark in July reruns. Oh and also Christmas
- 2:12Speaker 2: at See I'm gonna talk about it later.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Oh in this episode.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Yeah, because I watched this movie live. Oh you did? Actually,
- 2:20Speaker 2: you know, I'm just gonna talk about it now. Okay,
- 2:22Speaker 2: it's in my digit see that. But since you didn't
- 2:24Speaker 2: watch it live, you watched it on Hallmark. Plus I'm
- 2:25Speaker 2: guessing yep, while watching live, how many times can Christmas
- 2:32Speaker 2: at Sea pop up at the bottom two thirds of
- 2:35Speaker 2: mice and not to mention the Norwegian gym? Like, Okay,
- 2:40Speaker 2: I get it You're a star now. It's like this
- 2:44Speaker 2: giant picture of the boat and then like Christmas at
- 2:46Speaker 2: Sea and I'm watching with subtitles because that's what you
- 2:51Speaker 2: do when you're old, and so you can't see it.
- 2:55Speaker 2: So frustrating, but I'm like, okay, I see you're like
- 2:59Speaker 2: four part dark docuseries is coming out. Okay, show me
- 3:02Speaker 2: one time, show me during the commercial, Yeah, we get it.
- 3:06Speaker 2: So frustrating.
- 3:08Speaker 1: Well, let's hear a synopsis for To Barcelona Forever.
- 3:10Speaker 2: We're gonna transition, okay. As Anna travels back to Barcelona,
- 3:15Speaker 2: reuniting with Erica to celebrate her engagement to Nico, she
- 3:20Speaker 2: finds a charming farmer and accidentally finds herself engaged to
- 3:25Speaker 2: save his family's legacy.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Ron Oliver returns to direct To Barcelona Forever. He has
- 3:31Speaker 1: ninety one directing credits, and y'all know him from The
- 3:35Speaker 1: Groomsman and The Wedding Veil Journey, as well as several
- 3:38Speaker 1: Picture Perfect Mysteries movies. Julie Sherman Wolf wrote the screenplay
- 3:43Speaker 1: for this movie, as well as the original To Barcelona
- 3:49Speaker 1: with Love. Julie is one of Hollmark's best writers, having
- 3:52Speaker 1: pinned movies like Holiday Touchdown and so so many more.
- 3:57Speaker 1: I wonder what's on top for her this holiday season.
- 3:59Speaker 1: I can't wait to see. Was a little bit surprised,
- 4:02Speaker 1: gonna admit it that she is not writing the Bill's
- 4:06Speaker 1: love story Ieah, same same. Ashley Williams and Alison Sweeney
- 4:12Speaker 1: share top billing, but this time Ashley Williams takes the
- 4:16Speaker 1: lead role in this chapter of the story. Ali stars
- 4:20Speaker 1: as Erica. We did see her earlier this year in
- 4:22Speaker 1: Reality Bites a Hannah s Wentzon History, and she will
- 4:24Speaker 1: return to the role of Hannah in two upcoming movies
- 4:27Speaker 1: of pidadip For and Cook to Death, one of which
- 4:29Speaker 1: is coming in just a couple short weeks. Ashley Williams
- 4:33Speaker 1: stars as Anna. Not only did Ashley star in two
- 4:35Speaker 1: Hallmark movies last year, she also hosted the Hamewark Plus
- 4:38Speaker 1: dating series Small Town Setup, and she recently added another
- 4:41Speaker 1: directorial credit to her resume with an episode of The
- 4:45Speaker 1: Rookie on ABC. Alejandro Toos plays Nico. He's a Spanish
- 4:49Speaker 1: actor best known for his role as Ramon and La
- 4:52Speaker 1: Rea Blanca, where he has appeared in ninety nine episodes
- 4:54Speaker 1: of the drama series.
- 4:56Speaker 2: Miguel Broco plays Javier Migal, a Mexican actor who has
- 5:01Speaker 2: seventeen acting credits and has appeared in one hundred and
- 5:04Speaker 2: ten episodes of this Spanish series Mia es la Oh man,
- 5:09Speaker 2: you can do it, Mia s la ben ganza, Yes,
- 5:13Speaker 2: as diego man. I took two years of Spanish shoo terrible, terrible.
- 5:19Speaker 1: But how often do you get the chance to practice
- 5:21Speaker 1: your pronunciation in real life?
- 5:22Speaker 2: Not very, not very.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Both films were filmed on location in and around Barcelona
- 5:27Speaker 1: earlier this year.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Hey, if you haven't yet listened to it, Ali and
- 5:32Speaker 2: Ashley do have a podcast where they shared the process
- 5:36Speaker 2: of making these movies. It is called Mia More and
- 5:39Speaker 2: there are six episodes now available.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Let's take a quick break and we are going to
- 5:43Speaker 1: come right back with our first impressions. Hey, Wendy, what
- 5:55Speaker 1: was your first impression of two Barcelona Forever?
- 5:59Speaker 2: This is the kind of movie that sneaks up on you.
- 6:03Speaker 2: Let me tell you. One minute, I'm laughing at the subtitles.
- 6:07Speaker 2: I have more to talk about it. The next I'm
- 6:10Speaker 2: tearing up over the mother daughter moment. Oh, what's your
- 6:14Speaker 2: first impression? My first impression is to quote a message
- 6:17Speaker 2: we received from one of our listeners after this movie aired.
- 6:19Speaker 2: So when are we going to Barcelona? How beautiful? I mean,
- 6:25Speaker 2: I haven't felt this way since maybe we watched the
- 6:29Speaker 2: Danube movies originally last year, where I was like, I
- 6:32Speaker 2: want to go on a river cruise. Now I want
- 6:34Speaker 2: to go to Barcelona.
- 6:35Speaker 1: However, I did happen to see that the people of
- 6:40Speaker 1: Barcelona are not really loving tourists lately. Oh so maybe
- 6:45Speaker 1: we should table that idea.
- 6:47Speaker 2: Really why?
- 6:49Speaker 1: I actually saw some videos of some British tourist getting
- 6:51Speaker 1: water gunned by Oh no, the people of Barcelona. I
- 6:55Speaker 1: don't know the details of or the nuances of why
- 6:58Speaker 1: people are upset, but I apparently this is an ongoing
- 7:01Speaker 1: thing where the people of Barcelona are not the biggest
- 7:04Speaker 1: fans of tourism lately.
- 7:07Speaker 2: Well that's really interesting.
- 7:08Speaker 3: M hmm.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Okay, what did you like about Barcelona Forever?
- 7:13Speaker 2: Well, I have a really long list, and I'm afraid
- 7:17Speaker 2: you do not I do. Okay. First, I really appreciated
- 7:23Speaker 2: that Anna is fully stepping into this new identity as
- 7:27Speaker 2: a travel writer. It feels like growth from the first
- 7:32Speaker 2: movie where she was like, what am I going to
- 7:34Speaker 2: do next?
- 7:35Speaker 3: Right? Mm hmm?
- 7:36Speaker 2: And I love in contrast that Erica is now writing
- 7:40Speaker 2: her own novel. It gives purpose to these women outside
- 7:44Speaker 2: of having a romantic storyline.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Yeah, we are not one dimensional. I love a fake
- 7:50Speaker 1: dating story. It's one of my favorite tropes. Same However,
- 7:54Speaker 1: what I really liked is they take this whirlwind one
- 7:58Speaker 1: day romance, and that's how they prime the fake dating story.
- 8:02Speaker 1: So we are already willing to accept that in this
- 8:07Speaker 1: like fake engagement, they have chemistry. They don't have to
- 8:10Speaker 1: develop it, which works really well in the constraints of
- 8:14Speaker 1: a movie that's an hour and twenty minutes because.
- 8:17Speaker 2: They've already built it up.
- 8:18Speaker 1: And so I thought the pairing of those two ideas
- 8:21Speaker 1: this like one day and then we go on our
- 8:23Speaker 1: separate ways, and then now we have to pretend to
- 8:25Speaker 1: be engaged made me fully believe that these two had
- 8:29Speaker 1: these strong emotions for each other that they were pushing
- 8:32Speaker 1: back against. I agree, I absolutely agree, And I like
- 8:36Speaker 1: that you articulated it like that because I was wondering.
- 8:42Speaker 1: I love a fake dating trope, but you're right, Like
- 8:44Speaker 1: some of my favorite fake dating movies, the whole movie
- 8:48Speaker 1: is them actually becoming interested in each other. Yeah, and
- 8:54Speaker 1: what we have here is they are already interested in
- 8:56Speaker 1: each other.
- 8:57Speaker 2: So yeah, it's a nice little spin, and.
- 9:00Speaker 1: We don't have the misunderstanding piece because often in fake dating, right,
- 9:04Speaker 1: they're pretending to be together and separately they're developing these feelings,
- 9:09Speaker 1: but neither is saying it to the other because they're
- 9:10Speaker 1: supposed to be pretending. But they didn't have any of that.
- 9:13Speaker 1: They got to be outfront.
- 9:15Speaker 2: About all of it, right, right, right, right right? What
- 9:19Speaker 2: else you're like, Well, I like that it pivoted away
- 9:22Speaker 2: from last week's story. You know, we last week we
- 9:26Speaker 2: were at Nico's bookstore and Saint Jordie and all that, right,
- 9:31Speaker 2: and I knew, like, we're going to do a sequel,
- 9:33Speaker 2: but where is this going to pick up? I'm glad
- 9:35Speaker 2: that it didn't pick up like a year later. I
- 9:37Speaker 2: picked up a couple months later, and then we get
- 9:39Speaker 2: a full pivot into following what Anna is doing. But
- 9:45Speaker 2: it was still complementary to the original story, but we're
- 9:49Speaker 2: not getting the identical story. Yeah, that makes sense, no,
- 9:53Speaker 2: one hundred percent.
- 9:54Speaker 1: And I the thing I liked about Erica's story is
- 9:57Speaker 1: it kind of runs in the background of this movie.
- 9:59Speaker 1: There's just hints of it. And you talked a little
- 10:02Speaker 1: bit about some of the emotional Powerhouse moments, which I'm
- 10:04Speaker 1: not going to take away from you, but I do
- 10:06Speaker 1: want to talk about her breaking down to Nico after
- 10:09Speaker 1: she's discovered as writing this story and he finds out
- 10:13Speaker 1: that she was struggling with writer's block, and everyone's upset
- 10:16Speaker 1: with her, and she runs away and she finally just
- 10:18Speaker 1: kind of comes to him and breaks down a little bit.
- 10:21Speaker 1: That was a very powerful scene for me.
- 10:25Speaker 2: I agree, and it hit in a way that.
- 10:28Speaker 1: I was surprised by because her story is not front
- 10:31Speaker 1: and center in this movie, and yet that scene was
- 10:35Speaker 1: really great.
- 10:36Speaker 2: I was very emotional for her. Mit you, and now
- 10:39Speaker 2: let you say that, I'm it's probably not purposeful, but
- 10:48Speaker 2: reflecting on it, like it shows that a lot of
- 10:51Speaker 2: people have stuff going on, right, but we show up
- 10:53Speaker 2: for other people and you know, like we're what's that line,
- 11:00Speaker 2: Like everybody's dealing with something. So, yeah, that's a really
- 11:04Speaker 2: good point. Like she's there for Anna and she all
- 11:10Speaker 2: that stuff is fun, but then like there's this background
- 11:13Speaker 2: of like I'm not dealing well with this task that
- 11:16Speaker 2: I'm supposed to do writing this novel, and she finally
- 11:19Speaker 2: breaks down to Nico. Yes, it's a very good, very
- 11:22Speaker 2: good scene. I agree. I agree.
- 11:29Speaker 3: Two.
- 11:29Speaker 2: I have a I would like to say that the
- 11:31Speaker 2: writing is equally as sharp in this one as it
- 11:35Speaker 2: was in the first one. I thought it was funny
- 11:40Speaker 2: in all the right places, especially between Anna and Javier.
- 11:44Speaker 2: They there's one scene where they're talking about where he
- 11:47Speaker 2: they after they have their date and they're eating ice
- 11:49Speaker 2: cream and they talk about the spicy kiss. I thought
- 11:53Speaker 2: that was so good. Then there was like a full nuanced,
- 11:58Speaker 2: grown up conversation about not sleeping together when she shows
- 12:03Speaker 2: up at his home and he's going to show her
- 12:07Speaker 2: where she's going to be sleeping and they're like, she goes,
- 12:09Speaker 2: but we're not. We're not. I'm not sleeping with you know.
- 12:13Speaker 2: It just was funny. I thought it was well done.
- 12:16Speaker 2: And Anna and Erica, like their banter, had a nice
- 12:20Speaker 2: rhythm and natural flow to it that I really like,
- 12:22Speaker 2: Like you can tell these people like each other in
- 12:25Speaker 2: real life, like it's easy to act between them. I'm sure. Yeah,
- 12:29Speaker 2: I gotta tell you. I laughed out loud. And one
- 12:32Speaker 2: scene when Anna is talking to Erica and she's talking
- 12:35Speaker 2: about how she needs to make more money for what
- 12:37Speaker 2: she's doing and She's like, I need the brand deals.
- 12:40Speaker 2: If I want to get these brand deals and the sponsors,
- 12:42Speaker 2: I need to reach more people. And I was like, girl,
- 12:44Speaker 2: you are preaching to the choir, right. I felt very relatable.
- 12:50Speaker 2: My next thing is the comedy. I love a Hallmark
- 12:54Speaker 2: rom com totally mean too, and in this one, I
- 12:59Speaker 2: was thinking about it as we're watching, and we're gonna
- 13:01Speaker 2: talk about this more in a little bit. But we
- 13:05Speaker 2: don't get to see comedic chops a lot from the
- 13:10Speaker 2: women of Hallmark. Uh huh. We see funny, we see
- 13:14Speaker 2: them like reciting or acting funny lines, right, but we
- 13:18Speaker 2: don't we don't get to see it like maybe in
- 13:21Speaker 2: a physical comedy or like a all over the face
- 13:24Speaker 2: or like a quirky little whatever. I love Ashley Williams.
- 13:28Speaker 2: I think she brings a lot of comedy, but she
- 13:33Speaker 2: balances it with sincerity. It's she is a home run
- 13:38Speaker 2: for me every single time.
- 13:39Speaker 1: I totally agree.
- 13:41Speaker 2: And her scenes with Hobby Air, they were like light
- 13:43Speaker 2: and flirty. They were just such a joy to watch.
- 13:48Speaker 2: I just I really enjoyed a lot of this movie
- 13:54Speaker 2: because of that. I did too.
- 13:56Speaker 1: To your point, I think Asha Williams might be one
- 13:59Speaker 1: of the best comedic actresses on Hallmark, if not the
- 14:01Speaker 1: best comedic actress on Hallmark. And one of the things
- 14:06Speaker 1: I loved about this movie, as if after last week,
- 14:08Speaker 1: I wasn't already primed to shout about women being allowed
- 14:10Speaker 1: to be fun and adventurous and fall in love at
- 14:12Speaker 1: any age. They give us this love story to women
- 14:15Speaker 1: and female friendship and family that was so emotional for me.
- 14:21Speaker 1: On another note, when we were presented with the narrative
- 14:25Speaker 1: of this secret Saffron Farm, I heard Taylor Swift in
- 14:29Speaker 1: my head singing, I think I've heard the song before,
- 14:30Speaker 1: and I didn't like the ending, And they went ahead
- 14:33Speaker 1: and surprised me with two twists. One, Ashley pushes back
- 14:38Speaker 1: very quickly against the way in which they're deceiving his family.
- 14:43Speaker 1: She doesn't like it. She's uncomfortable with it. Regardless of
- 14:46Speaker 1: the potential career gains for her, she's not on board
- 14:50Speaker 1: with it. On the other hand, the twist of Erica
- 14:55Speaker 1: being the one to in quotation marks, betray them with
- 14:59Speaker 1: her yeah, was a twist that I didn't see coming.
- 15:03Speaker 1: I assumed because you know, we've seen this before. The
- 15:07Speaker 1: secret location that nobody can know about, and the secret strategies.
- 15:11Speaker 1: I was afraid that somehow we had all this like
- 15:15Speaker 1: location sharing going on in the movie, and oh, something
- 15:19Speaker 1: was gonna happen and it was different than I expected,
- 15:22Speaker 1: and I appreciated that.
- 15:24Speaker 2: Did you like that whole It was kind of a
- 15:27Speaker 2: quick moment. But when the realization that Anna has when
- 15:32Speaker 2: she learns that Erica was going to write her novel
- 15:35Speaker 2: about this family or be inspired by it, and then
- 15:38Speaker 2: she kind of just like tongue lashed.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Yeah, that wasn't really my favorite moment. Why Well, because
- 15:48Speaker 1: I felt like, I think I have two feelings about it.
- 15:51Speaker 1: On one hand, I'm glad that she was so protective
- 15:53Speaker 1: of Javier and his family. On the other hand, I
- 15:56Speaker 1: didn't love that she jumped to the worst possible conclusion
- 15:59Speaker 1: about Erica.
- 16:02Speaker 2: Okay, fair so.
- 16:06Speaker 1: Because to me, I thought it would be I wasn't
- 16:10Speaker 1: bothered by the fact that Erica was inspired by this family.
- 16:14Speaker 1: And I think, I guess if you look back to
- 16:19Speaker 1: the first movie and Erica took liberties with Anna's writing
- 16:22Speaker 1: without permission, really you could see why she would make
- 16:26Speaker 1: that jump to maybe she's making the wrong call here.
- 16:29Speaker 2: On the other hand, they've.
- 16:30Speaker 1: Developed this friendship and I feel like she should know
- 16:32Speaker 1: her better than that to know that she wouldn't betray
- 16:37Speaker 1: her and hoppy er in this way.
- 16:38Speaker 2: Yes, but don't you think that is a super human react,
- 16:42Speaker 2: normal human reaction?
- 16:43Speaker 1: Yeah, for sure.
- 16:44Speaker 2: So that's what I liked about it. It surprised me
- 16:48Speaker 2: because we wouldn't get that typically in a Hallmark movie,
- 16:52Speaker 2: where you see like somebody's actually mad at somebody else
- 16:55Speaker 2: because of an assumption or whatever. But I thought it
- 17:03Speaker 2: was kind of a fresh human take.
- 17:07Speaker 1: I don't disagree with you at all, and I didn't
- 17:09Speaker 1: not like it from a writing perspective. It just made
- 17:13Speaker 1: me uncomfortable from a human perspective seeing that conflict. But
- 17:17Speaker 1: I think they also flipped that trip on its head
- 17:19Speaker 1: because the main conflict is between Erica and Anna as
- 17:23Speaker 1: opposed to where we would expect it to be between
- 17:25Speaker 1: Anna and Xavier, right right, right right. No, that's why
- 17:29Speaker 1: I think, like, I think Julie did so well with
- 17:32Speaker 1: this script. Yeah, I think she did. I think it's
- 17:35Speaker 1: I think it's some there's some underrated moves in these movies.
- 17:39Speaker 2: Mm hmm. Totally totally. Two more final things that I liked,
- 17:43Speaker 2: I really loved And when I talked about it earlier.
- 17:46Speaker 2: The touching moments between Anna and Xavier's mom. They were
- 17:50Speaker 2: so heartfelt and it wasn't just one. There were a
- 17:54Speaker 2: couple of them, and I could see. What I felt
- 17:59Speaker 2: is that Ashley Williams the actor, was really connected to
- 18:04Speaker 2: that material as a daughter who had lost her mother
- 18:10Speaker 2: in real life.
- 18:12Speaker 1: I one hundred percent agree.
- 18:15Speaker 2: So it was just lovely, lovely, lovely, lovely.
- 18:18Speaker 1: Yeah, that was an incredibly moving scene, that Onion scene
- 18:21Speaker 1: in the relationship she had with his mother.
- 18:23Speaker 2: Yes, yes, I loved it. And finally I loved the
- 18:27Speaker 2: wedding at the end. I'm a sucker for her wedding.
- 18:30Speaker 2: I love the wedding at the end. It gave us
- 18:34Speaker 2: that nice neat bow in the Hallmark ending of you know,
- 18:39Speaker 2: I thought that was lovely. And then as it ended,
- 18:43Speaker 2: I asked myself, I said, would I want Would I
- 18:47Speaker 2: want to follow up movie to this? Oh? And initially
- 18:51Speaker 2: I was like, yes, I do, But then when I
- 18:53Speaker 2: thought about it, I was like, Okay, but where are
- 18:54Speaker 2: we gonna go with it?
- 18:56Speaker 1: Like Markings kind of wrapped up pretty nicely. Yeah, I
- 18:58Speaker 1: would be mad about checking back in with this creed
- 19:02Speaker 1: and maybe at their minor characters in somebody else's story.
- 19:06Speaker 2: Oh that's fun. Yeah, somebody else, another big Hallmark name. Yeah,
- 19:11Speaker 2: that would be fun. Yeah, And that's what I liked
- 19:14Speaker 2: about this movie. Nice.
- 19:16Speaker 1: Well, we're gonna talk wishes, but before we jump into
- 19:20Speaker 1: our wishes, I want to throw it back to last week,
- 19:22Speaker 1: when some of our biggest wishes were in regards to
- 19:25Speaker 1: the way people were perceiving this movie and perceiving what
- 19:28Speaker 1: the lives of women of a certain age should be like,
- 19:31Speaker 1: and perhaps suggesting that having fun was no longer allowed
- 19:36Speaker 1: after the age of thirty five. And we were not
- 19:40Speaker 1: the only person, We were not the only people who
- 19:43Speaker 1: felt that way. And someone reached out to us with
- 19:49Speaker 1: some thoughts and I'm going to play those for you
- 19:52Speaker 1: right now.
- 19:53Speaker 3: Oh girls, going to homework. It's Ashley Williams. I'm so excited.
- 20:00Speaker 3: I didn't even know that this little voicemail was here.
- 20:04Speaker 3: And now I'm just gonna call you all the time
- 20:06Speaker 3: and say hello because I love you too so much.
- 20:10Speaker 3: Wanted to say thank you so much, first of all,
- 20:12Speaker 3: and so thanks for watching the first Barcelona movie. The
- 20:15Speaker 3: second one does air this Saturday night. I hope you
- 20:17Speaker 3: like it, but I just wanted to say everything aside.
- 20:22Speaker 3: I just wanted to say I did hear your episode
- 20:25Speaker 3: on Barcelona with Love, and I am so grateful for
- 20:29Speaker 3: the shout outs regarding the fact that I am an
- 20:33Speaker 3: old lady. The comments online referred to me as too
- 20:37Speaker 3: old to be running around chasing after boys, and that
- 20:43Speaker 3: was startling. And it might just be because, you know,
- 20:47Speaker 3: at the ripe old age of forty six, I'm still
- 20:50Speaker 3: super into the dudes. I do have a husband, so
- 20:52Speaker 3: maybe let's not spread that around too much. But I
- 20:55Speaker 3: love men, I love appreciating men. I love love, and
- 20:59Speaker 3: I think that women of all ages are capable of
- 21:04Speaker 3: getting giddy and flushed in the face and excited about
- 21:09Speaker 3: a potential new you know, fun date or you know,
- 21:14Speaker 3: getting engaged again and finding a new love of their lives.
- 21:17Speaker 3: And I really appreciate that you saw that. And I
- 21:21Speaker 3: was startled that so much of our audience was offended
- 21:23Speaker 3: that somebody my age would would still be interested in
- 21:27Speaker 3: finding love. And it doesn't feel true to like the
- 21:30Speaker 3: Hallmark fan base, so it was surprising. Just wanted to
- 21:33Speaker 3: say thank you. If anybody else feels the way I do,
- 21:36Speaker 3: drop a little comment on maybe the Hallmark Facebook page
- 21:40Speaker 3: or an IMDb review because guess what, the Hamewark executives
- 21:46Speaker 3: read all those and they do affect the stories that
- 21:49Speaker 3: we tell. So thank you for your support. As always,
- 21:52Speaker 3: I love you too, and I'm grateful that you're old
- 21:56Speaker 3: like me and that you still have a heart that's
- 21:58Speaker 3: going strong. Love to both of you and Pisigan for
- 22:03Speaker 3: your support.
- 22:06Speaker 2: I love her so much. I'm telling you, she is
- 22:10Speaker 2: just sunshine. Like I want to be in her orbit,
- 22:14Speaker 2: like on the daily, you know what I mean.
- 22:16Speaker 3: I know.
- 22:17Speaker 1: I went downstairs and I told my husband, I'm like,
- 22:19Speaker 1: Ashley Williams just called us. And his first question was
- 22:22Speaker 1: do you put your phone number on the internet? And
- 22:25Speaker 1: I was like no, and then he was like, she
- 22:29Speaker 1: called like you guys. I was like, yet us specifically.
- 22:35Speaker 2: So that was awesome.
- 22:38Speaker 4: That was awesome.
- 22:39Speaker 2: What are your thoughts?
- 22:40Speaker 4: What are your Can I please before you show yours,
- 22:44Speaker 4: can I tell you mine.
- 22:46Speaker 1: I'm actually.
- 22:49Speaker 2: Floored that she was so vulnerable and shared on our voicemail.
- 22:54Speaker 2: She gave us permission to share this voicemail guys that
- 22:57Speaker 2: her future work depends on all these comments. You know,
- 23:01Speaker 2: Hallmark is looking at them, and I just thought that
- 23:05Speaker 2: came from like a really vulnerable place and proud of
- 23:10Speaker 2: her as a fellow woman to you know, share that
- 23:15Speaker 2: put it all on the line. Yeah, exactly.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Doesn't It kind of make you mad though, that these
- 23:20Speaker 1: like keyboard Warriors have as much of an effect on
- 23:25Speaker 1: the movies that get made as they do.
- 23:27Speaker 2: Yeah, because I think these keyboard warriors don't give a
- 23:32Speaker 2: second thought to the ramifications of what they're putting out there.
- 23:38Speaker 2: You know, everybody just fire off a tweet or a
- 23:41Speaker 2: message or whatever. And I hate this because and then
- 23:46Speaker 2: they're not really realizing the consequences of what they're doing. Yeah.
- 23:52Speaker 1: And then on the other hand, I think it's a
- 23:54Speaker 1: good reminder to those of us who watch these movies
- 23:57Speaker 1: that your positive words do matter. I think it's really
- 23:59Speaker 1: easy to I don't leave a lot of written reviews
- 24:02Speaker 1: of anything anywhere. Obviously, I have a podcast, so I
- 24:05Speaker 1: talk about these movies very publicly. But you know, if
- 24:09Speaker 1: you like something, say something, yeah.
- 24:12Speaker 2: And if I can say for a minute, you know,
- 24:16Speaker 2: the origin of us podcasting came from me being a hater, right,
- 24:22Speaker 2: And obviously at the top of the podcast you hear
- 24:25Speaker 2: me I am a former homemark hater. I have really
- 24:27Speaker 2: come to appreciate the storytelling, the actors, the directors, all
- 24:33Speaker 2: the people that put the work into the movies. Are
- 24:35Speaker 2: they all winners? No, we have. We have reviewed some
- 24:41Speaker 2: not so great movies, but it was never like to
- 24:45Speaker 2: the intention of like, well, I feel like I'm going
- 24:49Speaker 2: down a slippery slope here. No.
- 24:51Speaker 1: No, As Benjamin Ayer said in the clip he sent
- 24:55Speaker 1: into us for our Countdown to Christmas bracket, nobody sets
- 24:59Speaker 1: out to make a bad movie, and we do not
- 25:01Speaker 1: set out to make a takedown podcast.
- 25:03Speaker 3: Right.
- 25:04Speaker 2: We want to give.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Objective reviews of these movies, but we want to come
- 25:09Speaker 1: at it from a place of appreciating the people who
- 25:11Speaker 1: make them.
- 25:12Speaker 2: Right, right, right, Well, She's just sunshine, that girl. I
- 25:18Speaker 2: love her.
- 25:18Speaker 1: Thank you, Ashley call us anytime you give me the
- 25:20Speaker 1: third Girl Gone Hallmark any day?
- 25:23Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 25:23Speaker 1: What are your wishes about?
- 25:26Speaker 3: Two?
- 25:26Speaker 1: Barcelona forever?
- 25:27Speaker 2: I have one? Just one cool. I was a little
- 25:30Speaker 2: surprised about Erica being so stuck as a writer, A
- 25:35Speaker 2: big shift from the previous movie where she's super confident.
- 25:39Speaker 2: I mean, I know she wrote this story like kind
- 25:42Speaker 2: of undercover or whatever, but in those scenes where she
- 25:45Speaker 2: was like really pushing Anna like in the writing and
- 25:48Speaker 2: they were working together in last week's movie Where'd She Go?
- 25:53Speaker 1: Yeah, the imposter syndrome got her?
- 25:55Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, That's what it is. That's what it is. Okay.
- 26:00Speaker 2: So maybe it wasn't so much of a wish because
- 26:02Speaker 2: I said earlier in the likes, I liked that we have,
- 26:06Speaker 2: you know, these characters who have other stuff going on.
- 26:08Speaker 2: Imposter syndrome is very real. So maybe maybe this is
- 26:14Speaker 2: just one of the cool moments that you mentioned that
- 26:19Speaker 2: Julie did. Yeah, you know, and the writing it was intentional, Yeah, yeah, yeah, okay,
- 26:24Speaker 2: what about you?
- 26:25Speaker 1: You know, look, i am going to die on this
- 26:27Speaker 1: hill and I'm just going to say it one time,
- 26:28Speaker 1: and people can pass forward thirty seconds so they don't
- 26:30Speaker 1: want to hear me say it. Turning forty does not
- 26:32Speaker 1: relegate one to a life without fun, silliness, and light.
- 26:35Speaker 1: I've yet to see a complaint about Alejandro tuss as
- 26:38Speaker 1: Nico his age. He's the same age as these women.
- 26:42Speaker 1: Women are many things. Aging doesn't or shouldn't ring the
- 26:46Speaker 1: personality and individuality out of us or them in this case.
- 26:51Speaker 1: And my non age related wish is a do think
- 26:55Speaker 1: that Javier and Ann fell in love just a touch
- 26:57Speaker 1: too quickly. Oh you think so you?
- 27:00Speaker 2: Oh that I love yous were a little yeah, a
- 27:03Speaker 2: little quick for me too, Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 27:05Speaker 1: I was all in on the romance and the feelings
- 27:07Speaker 1: and the do they love each other? Maybe maybe they do?
- 27:12Speaker 2: Yeah a little fast. Oh that's it. They didn't get married.
- 27:15Speaker 2: So I loved that.
- 27:16Speaker 1: They did not get married.
- 27:18Speaker 2: And I love that like there was a there was
- 27:21Speaker 2: a fix for the whole family tradition thing, like somebody
- 27:24Speaker 2: could step in for his role and he could really
- 27:25Speaker 2: go do what he wanted to do because and I
- 27:27Speaker 2: didn't mention this earlier because I forgot I did kind
- 27:30Speaker 2: of love the whole like vulnerability of Javier. Usually, like
- 27:36Speaker 2: the females get that storyline where they're like, I am
- 27:39Speaker 2: I got to be a part of my family business
- 27:40Speaker 2: and blah blah blah blah blah or whatever. Right, but
- 27:43Speaker 2: here we have like a male perspective of I don't
- 27:46Speaker 2: want to be on this timeline.
- 27:48Speaker 1: And that he's the one who's going to step away
- 27:49Speaker 1: to support his new the career of his partner.
- 27:54Speaker 2: Yeah thought, yeah, loved it all right.
- 27:57Speaker 1: I only have a couple, digity, that's what about you?
- 27:59Speaker 2: I got a few, Okay, got a few. Go ahead.
- 28:03Speaker 1: I know you're gonna talk about one of them, so
- 28:04Speaker 1: I'm gonna leave it alone. But not a true did
- 28:07Speaker 1: you see that? But I loved Anna's now a clock bag.
- 28:10Speaker 2: I don't even know what you're talking about. She carried
- 28:12Speaker 2: a toe bag when she got out of her car.
- 28:15Speaker 1: It's in several scenes and on. I tried to find
- 28:18Speaker 1: it googling now a clock did not yield any results.
- 28:22Speaker 2: I didn't look that hard.
- 28:23Speaker 1: Bet anybody knows where to find it, please email us
- 28:24Speaker 1: Girls Gone Homemark at gmail dot com. But it says
- 28:27Speaker 1: if anybody's like, what are you talking about? It's just
- 28:29Speaker 1: a blue toe bag, and on it in what looks
- 28:32Speaker 1: like digital numbers, it says like the letter N then
- 28:35Speaker 1: the colon like it's the time, and then oh W
- 28:38Speaker 1: like now a clock. I just thought it was well
- 28:42Speaker 1: placed for the theme of the movie wow, like now's
- 28:46Speaker 1: the time.
- 28:47Speaker 2: That's so funny because my first did you see that?
- 28:51Speaker 2: Is a suitcase? Oh when her car breaks down and
- 28:57Speaker 2: she's decides to get out of the car and she
- 28:59Speaker 2: pulls out her suitcase. They showed like the suitcase gets
- 29:03Speaker 2: like two very prominent close up shots, and I was like,
- 29:05Speaker 2: is this a brand deal that's happening here?
- 29:08Speaker 1: Oh did you see the name? Like, did you see
- 29:10Speaker 1: the branding of it?
- 29:11Speaker 2: Well, my old lady eyes couldn't barely see the TV,
- 29:14Speaker 2: so I don't know. It wasn't like it was like away,
- 29:17Speaker 2: but no, it wasn't like that big. But I thought
- 29:21Speaker 2: that's funny. It just was interesting.
- 29:25Speaker 1: It wasn't like Wayne's world level advertising.
- 29:28Speaker 2: But no, no, no, no, no no no no no,
- 29:32Speaker 2: what else you gout for? Did you see that? My
- 29:35Speaker 2: absolute favorite moment was when Anna was speaking Spanish to
- 29:39Speaker 2: Javier's dad and Javier's dad replies back to her and
- 29:43Speaker 2: the subtitles in Spanish just fly across the screen. I
- 29:48Speaker 2: thought it was smart and hilarious. I laughed out loud
- 29:51Speaker 2: to her where my husband came upstairs. He's like, uh,
- 29:55Speaker 2: you're laughing at your Hallmark movie? And I just was like,
- 29:58Speaker 2: this was very funny.
- 30:00Speaker 1: One percent agree with you. It was a total highlight
- 30:03Speaker 1: of the movie for me. And I want to know
- 30:06Speaker 1: who was in charge of that decision, Like who was like,
- 30:09Speaker 1: this is how the scene needs to go, because like,
- 30:12Speaker 1: was it just an editor doing that or was it
- 30:14Speaker 1: a director's choice.
- 30:15Speaker 2: I loved it so great, very good very very good.
- 30:19Speaker 2: My next one is Miko calls Erica Rubia, yes, and
- 30:23Speaker 2: I was like, I wonder what that means. I looked
- 30:25Speaker 2: it up. It means blonde in Spanish, and I thought
- 30:29Speaker 2: that's cute and flirty.
- 30:32Speaker 1: Yeah, like blondie. That's cute, right. I like that a lot.
- 30:36Speaker 1: I'm glad you looked it up because I did wonder
- 30:38Speaker 1: about it and never looked.
- 30:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 30:40Speaker 2: I was like, Rubia, what does ruby I mean? And
- 30:42Speaker 2: then of course, like I just googled what is ruby
- 30:43Speaker 2: I mean in Spanish? And it gave me like the
- 30:46Speaker 2: translate of blonde. So if Google's wrong, email us at
- 30:54Speaker 2: girls Conne Hollmark at gmail dot com.
- 30:56Speaker 1: We don't know what that thing.
- 30:57Speaker 3: Yeah. No.
- 30:58Speaker 2: And one final digit that for me was when Nico
- 31:02Speaker 2: was slicing a potato, but he was like cutting the
- 31:06Speaker 2: potato like you would cut pieces off an apple. Oh
- 31:10Speaker 2: you know what I'm talking about. Like he's holding the
- 31:12Speaker 2: potato in one hand and with the knife he's like
- 31:16Speaker 2: chipping away at it. I'm like, what is happening here?
- 31:20Speaker 1: Like he's peeling it, but not.
- 31:22Speaker 2: Not peeling it, he's cutting chunks off of it as
- 31:25Speaker 2: if there were a core. Yes.
- 31:27Speaker 4: Interesting, I was like, put that down, get that knife
- 31:31Speaker 4: away from your hand.
- 31:32Speaker 2: What are you doing? Yeah, you're stressing me out. I mean,
- 31:35Speaker 2: everyway's got their own technique. But I was like, what
- 31:38Speaker 2: I mean? Maybe the recipe calls for like very rough
- 31:42Speaker 2: chopped potatoes, but I don't know. I don't know. Are
- 31:48Speaker 2: you ready to rate two? Don't have anymore?
- 31:50Speaker 3: Oh?
- 31:50Speaker 2: No, no more? Oh sand Okay, yes, I'm ready to
- 31:54Speaker 2: rate it.
- 31:55Speaker 1: Well, for me, this movie was better than the first.
- 31:56Speaker 1: I gave it four point five stars.
- 31:58Speaker 2: I give four and a half stars too. I really
- 32:00Speaker 2: enjoyed it.
- 32:01Speaker 1: Hey, thank you for listening to this episode of Girls
