- 0:42Speaker 2: he comes here. Bill's one of the only guests we
- 0:44Speaker 2: won't put in a virtual green room.
- 0:47Speaker 1: No, we would. Nobody puts Bill, and nobody puts baby
- 0:50Speaker 1: old Billy in the corner.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Oh my god. Yeah, I really thought this episode. I
- 0:54Speaker 2: I you know, I usually I pause when I want
- 0:58Speaker 2: to write something and make a note to talk about,
- 1:00Speaker 2: and I was pausing every other sentence. I just thought
- 1:02Speaker 2: it was so funny.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Has a lot of funny moments, and there's.
- 1:06Speaker 2: A lot of stunts in it. There's a lot of

- 1:18Speaker 3: Good?
- 1:18Speaker 4: Good? Good?
- 1:19Speaker 2: A lot of people loving Deservant. I mean, if we
- 1:21Speaker 2: if we had merch, if I gotta tell you, if
- 1:25Speaker 2: if I heard could figure out, if the giant conglomerate
- 1:30Speaker 2: of my heart could figure out how to get us merch,
- 1:32Speaker 2: Deservant would be on a mug.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Deservant would be the picture of the tea on the
- 1:37Speaker 1: T shirt. It would be on a T shirt.
- 1:39Speaker 2: My I laughed out loud someone on my Instagram when

- 2:03Speaker 2: Very funny people that listen. Well, obviously, if you like
- 2:06Speaker 2: a show this good, you must be a funny person.
- 2:08Speaker 1: They are savvy. They are savvy and with it.
- 2:12Speaker 2: They love our songs. Did you see that thing I
- 2:14Speaker 2: sent you of the woman who on Twitter who edited
- 2:17Speaker 2: together a little quick video to the ramp song.
- 2:20Speaker 1: I Ran Down the Ramp song.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I ran down the ramp. She cut together footage
- 2:26Speaker 2: of JD running around down the scrubs ramp.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Down the scrubs ramp and several different Yeah, several different
- 2:32Speaker 1: ways he ran down. One time he goes down on
- 2:34Speaker 1: his back.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Joell, you might have to reward that woman with letting
- 2:39Speaker 2: her ask a question. She fucking cut a video for us.
- 2:42Speaker 1: Dude, No, listen, man, all right, and that's very nice.
- 2:45Speaker 2: She spent a lot of time on that. I wish
- 2:47Speaker 2: it was longer.
- 2:48Speaker 1: If you're listening, Nobody has done what Shay is done.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Nobody has done what Shay has done.
- 2:53Speaker 2: She's coming up. He's on a little bit.
- 2:55Speaker 1: That's what I'm trying to say. If you are, If
- 2:57Speaker 1: you we're not. We've been giving it away a little
- 3:00Speaker 1: too easily.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Oh so you're saying the only way to get on
- 3:02Speaker 2: is to is to self publish.
- 3:06Speaker 1: I'm saying, at least get close to the level of
- 3:09Speaker 1: fandom that Shay has has has shown. Man, that's like
- 3:13Speaker 1: he trumps everybody, this young everybody, This.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Young lady spent one or a lot of time. Think
- 3:20Speaker 2: how much time she's searched the whole fucking show for
- 3:23Speaker 2: shots of JD running down the ramp.
- 3:26Speaker 1: She went to YouTube and was like scrubs ramp and
- 3:30Speaker 1: what she did?
- 3:31Speaker 2: Oh man, anyway, I laughed that song. I cannot get
- 3:34Speaker 2: that fucking song out of my head. I sing it
- 3:35Speaker 2: all day long.
- 3:36Speaker 1: You know what song I can't get out of my
- 3:38Speaker 1: fucking head. What what you're trying to get into ideo shoon?
- 3:42Speaker 1: What you're trying to do?
- 3:44Speaker 2: I agree, it's fire. I'm not gonna lie and.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Shit, you're trying to get into ideo shoon? What is it?
- 3:51Speaker 2: What is it? Well, don't forget everybody. That's a ring
- 3:55Speaker 2: tone that you can have on your phone. I know again, Joe,
- 4:00Speaker 2: is there a max to how many ring tones we have?
- 4:01Speaker 2: Because when I read my comments, everyone's like asking lots
- 4:04Speaker 2: of questions. They want another one.
- 4:07Speaker 1: We can't do another one?
- 4:08Speaker 2: We can, DJ Collins said. On the last episode. DJ
- 4:11Speaker 2: Collin said, we could.
- 4:13Speaker 1: I know he did, but that's an I mean, listen,
- 4:15Speaker 1: he was just trying to be nice.
- 4:19Speaker 2: We did our we did our new favorite segment, asked
- 4:22Speaker 2: DJ Collin and he gave us permission.
- 4:24Speaker 1: I know, but no, dude, no man.
- 4:27Speaker 2: If I had the bandwidth in my brain, I would,
- 4:29Speaker 2: I would. I would just take over the whole merch
- 4:31Speaker 2: thing and do it myself.
- 4:32Speaker 1: But I don't.
- 4:33Speaker 2: I know that I care enough. But I have so
- 4:36Speaker 2: many funny ideas, and our fans and listeners are suggesting
- 4:38Speaker 2: so many funny ideas, like it would be a whole
- 4:41Speaker 2: little side career for me.
- 4:43Speaker 1: I love that everybody's involved, man, everybody wants to be
- 4:46Speaker 1: involved in it, and I like, well.
- 4:47Speaker 2: You know, GQ British GQ says it's the second best
- 4:51Speaker 2: podcast of the year.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Wow, you know.
- 4:54Speaker 2: And they're the British are wise. They're very wise.
- 4:57Speaker 1: They're wise, they're very very wise.
- 5:00Speaker 2: We have good taste. Let's be honest, Well, you know,
- 5:03Speaker 2: British people have good taste.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Let's let's let's let's call it what it is. They're
- 5:09Speaker 1: right is right.
- 5:11Speaker 2: Like in my beard, I'm trying to catch up with you.
- 5:12Speaker 1: I do like it. I like that you're letting the
- 5:14Speaker 1: gray grow out a little bits.
- 5:16Speaker 2: A little bit. Yeah, I can't get as bushy as yours. Ever,
- 5:18Speaker 2: it just won't happen. It would take song for me.
- 5:21Speaker 1: This is this is all quarantine.
- 5:23Speaker 2: Oh, the whole quarantine. But I feel like even if
- 5:25Speaker 2: I guess, maybe if I did four months. Yeah, it
- 5:28Speaker 2: looks nice. I like it on you. It's a new look.
- 5:30Speaker 1: It is a new look. I like it too.
- 5:34Speaker 2: How's Casey putting up with it? Does she complain about it?
- 5:36Speaker 3: No?
- 5:36Speaker 1: She doesn't complain about my beard. She doesn't complain. She
- 5:39Speaker 1: complains about other things, you know, like my lack of
- 5:42Speaker 1: uh support in the house when it comes to the children.
- 5:47Speaker 2: Are you not helping? Are you being the horrible husband
- 5:49Speaker 2: that lies on the couch and plays video games?
- 5:51Speaker 1: No, I'm not being that person. But you know, my wife,
- 5:55Speaker 1: if there's nothing to do, she's gonna find something to
- 5:57Speaker 1: do in the form of cleaning or something like that.
- 6:00Speaker 1: That's just her and I don't think she's always been
- 6:03Speaker 1: like that, but I think ever since she's had kids,
- 6:05Speaker 1: a way to get away from everybody is to clean,
- 6:08Speaker 1: I guess, because she'll find things that aren't even dirty.
- 6:11Speaker 1: And it's really weird because she's never been that type
- 6:13Speaker 1: of person, but she'll find things that are dirty and
- 6:15Speaker 1: just be like I gotta clean this right now and then.
- 6:18Speaker 1: But it's a way. I think it's a way for
- 6:19Speaker 1: her to spend time away from us without being like
- 6:23Speaker 1: I can't be around y'all.
- 6:24Speaker 2: Don't you feel like in quarantine? This fucking deep into quarantine,
- 6:27Speaker 2: people are just starting to lose their minds a little
- 6:29Speaker 2: bit and they're like, what can I do? I know,
- 6:31Speaker 2: I'm going to clean the freezer like people are. I
- 6:33Speaker 2: think people are going a little batty.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Yeah, you know.
- 6:36Speaker 5: Uh.
- 6:36Speaker 1: She she got out the house today, which I'm very
- 6:39Speaker 1: happy for.
- 6:39Speaker 2: She let her out.
- 6:41Speaker 1: I let her out.
- 6:42Speaker 2: I let her as you're so strict with letting me. Lou,
- 6:45Speaker 2: did you like a padlock on the front door?
- 6:49Speaker 1: She was like, can I go out? I was like
- 6:51Speaker 1: one second, click click click, let me undo the chain
- 6:58Speaker 1: under the chain, underdo of the chain. And then I
- 7:00Speaker 1: opened the door and it's.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Like bright sunlight hits her face right.
- 7:05Speaker 1: And she's like blind for a second. When it hits her,
- 7:07Speaker 1: She's like, oh, so bright. And then I let her out.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Where did she go?
- 7:12Speaker 1: She went to play tennis, oh with Chris Crab, with
- 7:17Speaker 1: Christopher Crab.
- 7:18Speaker 2: She went, that's our old Donald and I we spoke
- 7:19Speaker 2: about him once he was our old tennis coach when
- 7:21Speaker 2: we were allowed to go to tennis.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Yeah, she took a tennis lesson.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Oh look who it is? Everybody? Thunderous applause, gentleman, burn
- 7:29Speaker 2: your key, Donald thunder give it up, turn, give it
- 7:32Speaker 2: up for Bill, America's favorite show runner is here, everybody.
- 7:41Speaker 3: I'm sure I have a lot of complaints today. I
- 7:43Speaker 3: a lot of issues today.
- 7:45Speaker 2: Bill, Why is your camera not on?
- 7:46Speaker 6: I got a lot of today I'm bringing I'm bringing
- 7:53Speaker 6: up complaints and stuff.
- 7:55Speaker 4: I'm ready.
- 7:55Speaker 2: All right, go we want to hear it all. Let's
- 7:57Speaker 2: go this such this is this called Bill bitches.
- 8:02Speaker 3: See, that's what it is.
- 8:04Speaker 6: That's what There's a new segment we're looking I mean
- 8:10Speaker 6: it is the second season of the show. Congratulations. By
- 8:12Speaker 6: the way, guys, I saw something that like a podcast
- 8:16Speaker 6: you have to listen to. I've run into people that
- 8:21Speaker 6: talk about the podcast independently of you two.
- 8:23Speaker 3: Its success makes me very happy.
- 8:26Speaker 6: The only thing that makes me happier is there are
- 8:27Speaker 6: some people that feel that I'm some way involved or
- 8:31Speaker 6: behind it, and I am not changing that narrative.
- 8:34Speaker 3: If I can take credit, I am are behind it.
- 8:36Speaker 2: Bill, You are this whole thing if it's worn't for you,
- 8:39Speaker 2: I wouldn't know Donald Donald would be I'd be like,
- 8:43Speaker 2: I don't know what I'd be doing porn you Donald
- 8:45Speaker 2: would be doing Clueless seven.
- 8:47Speaker 1: Right, dude. Every time they bring up do you want
- 8:50Speaker 1: to produce? I'm the one that's the holdout when it
- 8:52Speaker 1: comes to the Clueless remake. Every time they're like, do
- 8:54Speaker 1: you want to make it? Do you want to do
- 8:55Speaker 1: the remake? Do you want to do the remake? And
- 8:57Speaker 1: I'm like, no, no, no, no, not down. I'm still
- 9:00Speaker 1: spending that Scrubs money.
- 9:03Speaker 2: Wait a second, are you kidding? Are you serious? Alicia's
- 9:05Speaker 2: down to doing it? Okay, you should do it. Where
- 9:07Speaker 2: are they now?
- 9:09Speaker 1: It would be great if we could do a Clueless sequel,
- 9:11Speaker 1: that would be awesome. Do I think it's gonna happen?
- 9:14Speaker 1: I think nowadays more people are open to it. I
- 9:18Speaker 1: think ten years ago everybody was like, get the heck
- 9:20Speaker 1: out in here.
- 9:21Speaker 2: I mean, like a Netflix move, a Netflix movie would
- 9:23Speaker 2: be hilarious. I'd watch the hell out of that. Sorry, Bill,
- 9:26Speaker 2: go on, I didn't mean to interrupt the Wait. We
- 9:28Speaker 2: didn't count in, Bill, And since it's your favorite thing
- 9:30Speaker 2: to do, do you want to count a send to
- 9:31Speaker 2: America's favorite song.
- 9:32Speaker 6: Yeah, this might be the last time I ever do
- 9:34Speaker 6: it because we're looking for a new gig.
- 9:36Speaker 2: You're right, you're ready, right, But by the way, people
- 9:38Speaker 2: love it when you do it when you're not supposed to.
- 9:39Speaker 2: But now we're giving you permission to do it.
- 9:41Speaker 3: Bill, I don't want to.
- 9:52Speaker 2: All right, Bill, Please don't count into the theme song.
- 9:56Speaker 2: Please don't.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Whatever you do, Bill, just don't count into the themes
- 10:00Speaker 1: we asked you.
- 10:01Speaker 3: You guys think, but I know what.
- 10:07Speaker 7: Stories about show we made about a bunch of dogs
- 10:12Speaker 7: and nurses, Sana.
- 10:15Speaker 8: I said, he's the stories natural. So YadA ra here, YadA,
- 10:24Speaker 8: here is.
- 10:30Speaker 2: Bill. I have so many questions for you. I want
- 10:33Speaker 2: to tell you that I I think this is one
- 10:35Speaker 2: of the best episodes of season one and two thus far.
- 10:38Speaker 2: I laughed my ass off, and it's also moving, and
- 10:43Speaker 2: I just I'm so cool glad that coincidentally we were
- 10:46Speaker 2: having you on today because as I was watching it,
- 10:49Speaker 2: I thought it was fucking really one of the better
- 10:51Speaker 2: ones so far.
- 10:52Speaker 6: It's one of my favorite ones for everybody. But we're
- 10:55Speaker 6: gonna start with my grievances.
- 10:56Speaker 2: Yeah, go sorry, Bill, bitches all right, maybe maybe maybe
- 10:59Speaker 2: they shouldn't.
- 10:59Speaker 1: Be a little Dan just just give him little music,
- 11:02Speaker 1: just some little music, no well no.
- 11:04Speaker 2: Just like not not during this thing, just a little
- 11:06Speaker 2: to just figure out a little intro into the new segment.
- 11:08Speaker 2: Bill bitches, we're not.
- 11:13Speaker 3: We're not agreed that that's the new segment.
- 11:15Speaker 6: But if you're if you're coming up with what the
- 11:18Speaker 6: music would be for the segment, it should be something like.
- 11:24Speaker 2: This is a problem.
- 11:26Speaker 1: We give you, We give you an and you take
- 11:28Speaker 1: a foots.
- 11:32Speaker 2: You said you were going to come up with the
- 11:34Speaker 2: new season.
- 11:37Speaker 3: That would maybe be happy.
- 11:38Speaker 6: Okay, So here's here's my tiny grievances is when you
- 11:43Speaker 6: guys ask me quite, I don't want to be in
- 11:45Speaker 6: the same camp.
- 11:46Speaker 3: As wiki Kevin or Derek or whatever that guy's name is.
- 11:50Speaker 2: What's Wiky Trevor Trevor Wiki Wiky.
- 11:53Speaker 6: I'm not I'm not ever gonna call him that because
- 11:55Speaker 6: even though he seems nice, he's an enemy now because
- 11:57Speaker 6: he because.
- 11:58Speaker 2: He don't want to do it, he problematic. I'm not
- 12:01Speaker 2: gonna lie.
- 12:03Speaker 6: Have you guys noticed how you put me down and
- 12:07Speaker 6: make me feel like he does and knows the stuff
- 12:10Speaker 6: better than me. Have you noticed that through line it's
- 12:12Speaker 6: underneath He doesn't say it, but it's underneath it, and
- 12:15Speaker 6: underneath it is that he knows more about the show
- 12:17Speaker 6: than me.
- 12:18Speaker 2: I can him on. I just wait, we just signed
- 12:25Speaker 2: fucking Funko pops for the guy.
- 12:27Speaker 3: Maybe no funk pops, No Funko pops for Trevor.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Okay, Trevor is a big fucking know it all dude.
- 12:34Speaker 1: He's too much of a know it all just doesn't know.
- 12:36Speaker 1: Are you know how we feel about know it all? Zach?
- 12:38Speaker 1: You know how we feel about.
- 12:40Speaker 3: I actually like Trevor.
- 12:41Speaker 6: I just don't like feeling like on level playing field
- 12:45Speaker 6: with anybody.
- 12:46Speaker 3: It makes me upset. The So here's the here's my
- 12:50Speaker 3: here's my grievance.
- 12:51Speaker 6: My number one grievance is when you guys asked me questions,
- 12:55Speaker 6: I answer them after you've recorded it, so you can't
- 12:58Speaker 6: respond to the answer and so there's no real discourse.
- 13:02Speaker 6: I'm just like WICKI Trevor. So I want to think
- 13:04Speaker 6: of something that you can that I can record before
- 13:08Speaker 6: you do an episode in some cool way that you
- 13:12Speaker 6: could listen to and be prompted and then hear like
- 13:15Speaker 6: a response later.
- 13:16Speaker 3: Do you know what I mean? Something that I can
- 13:17Speaker 3: be Yeah, yes, we'd love that. So like it's even something,
- 13:23Speaker 3: go ahead, you go, you go.
- 13:24Speaker 2: People love it when you're on the show, and people
- 13:26Speaker 2: love your your your contributions, even when you start our
- 13:30Speaker 2: theme song without permission. And I think any way that
- 13:33Speaker 2: you want to be more. You're just a very busy man.
- 13:36Speaker 2: We don't want to cut into your time. Donald and
- 13:38Speaker 2: I are sitting around in quarantine staring at the walls,
- 13:41Speaker 2: whereas you're like writing eleven shows. So as much time
- 13:44Speaker 2: as you have, you can, please do it.
- 13:46Speaker 3: Well, here's what I want us to think of. It's quick,
- 13:49Speaker 3: it's there's only two requests I have. One is that.
- 13:55Speaker 6: We think of anything that I give you guys, something
- 13:58Speaker 6: that you can have Daniel press play on during the episode.
- 14:01Speaker 3: Because what I miss is I listened.
- 14:02Speaker 6: To these shows religiously. I listened to them the nights
- 14:04Speaker 6: they come out. I put my earphones on and listen
- 14:08Speaker 6: to them when I go to bed that night. It's awesome.
- 14:10Speaker 6: But what bums me out is when I do answer
- 14:12Speaker 6: your question, I don't get to hear your reaction or response.
- 14:15Speaker 3: To it, you know what I mean, because it happened
- 14:16Speaker 3: after the fact. So I think maybe when I know
- 14:18Speaker 3: what episode's coming.
- 14:19Speaker 6: If you ever like, oh, we'd like it, I can
- 14:21Speaker 6: either go uh ask you a question like what do
- 14:24Speaker 6: you think the writing room's favorite choke was in this episode?
- 14:27Speaker 6: And you can play the ending at the end if
- 14:28Speaker 6: you guys riff on it, or I can ask you
- 14:30Speaker 6: a question you all question about the episode based on
- 14:34Speaker 6: some kind of trivia or where it came from.
- 14:36Speaker 3: That might we do into a discussion. So I want
- 14:38Speaker 3: to I want to be I want to flip it.
- 14:41Speaker 6: And then the other thing is when you do have
- 14:43Speaker 6: me on, I want permission to bring a mystery guest
- 14:46Speaker 6: that you guys aren't allowed to know us.
- 14:51Speaker 1: That whatever you want? Bill, Bill, what those are?
- 14:56Speaker 6: Those are my only two contract demands?
- 14:59Speaker 2: Miss you make it happen? Do we have the best
- 15:01Speaker 2: producer in the podcast world and she's gonna make it
- 15:05Speaker 2: all happen.
- 15:06Speaker 3: I'm gonna steal Joel from you.
- 15:07Speaker 2: By the way, now that was gonna happen. I knew
- 15:10Speaker 2: that was gonna happen. Although Joel's like Joel's like produce
- 15:14Speaker 2: a podcast or work for Bill Lawrence in comedy writing.
- 15:17Speaker 1: Later the next episode, the next episode, that'll just be
- 15:24Speaker 1: some new person and yeah.
- 15:25Speaker 2: I can make Remember when Joel cut out, Remember when
- 15:28Speaker 2: you put up he cut out. It'll be like weekend
- 15:32Speaker 2: at Bernie's. It'll just be like just a Joel doll
- 15:34Speaker 2: sitting there.
- 15:35Speaker 6: I want I want Joel and Dan All to leave
- 15:38Speaker 6: right before your tour starts. So and they're.
- 15:42Speaker 2: Coming with Bill. You might come on the tour bus.
- 15:44Speaker 2: I think you might enjoy when we do the tour,
- 15:46Speaker 2: coming on our on our tour bus.
- 15:48Speaker 3: I'll probably take a plane from place to place.
- 15:50Speaker 2: But I like you, well, you'll be missing all the
- 15:52Speaker 2: fun on the We'll be missing all of the beautiful you.
- 15:55Speaker 6: By the way, nobody over eighteen has said you'll be
- 15:58Speaker 6: missing all the fun on the bus.
- 16:01Speaker 3: Guys, no fun on the bus.
- 16:03Speaker 2: Bill Donald and I have always wanted to tous We
- 16:06Speaker 2: always wanted to be We always wanted to live the
- 16:09Speaker 2: life of a tour bus rock band. And since we
- 16:11Speaker 2: don't play instruments and we're going to live that tour
- 16:15Speaker 2: bus life, we're gonna have a ROADI yeah, we should
- 16:18Speaker 2: bring up.
- 16:19Speaker 3: I gotta tell you, I I went, I saw Charlotte.
- 16:22Speaker 2: You know you're the producer, You're not the roady. We're
- 16:24Speaker 2: gonna we're gonna we need I don't know. No, no,
- 16:27Speaker 2: I would never we need a roady. I need someone
- 16:30Speaker 2: who tunes our instruments.
- 16:32Speaker 3: Thank you so much.
- 16:33Speaker 6: Uh uh, by the way for playing charlotte song, you guys.
- 16:37Speaker 6: That was so cool and uh uh you know she
- 16:41Speaker 6: loves you guys so much. She was so grateful, but
- 16:43Speaker 6: it was so neat for me. And I say that
- 16:45Speaker 6: because Charlotte's tour bus on her last tour was so
- 16:48Speaker 6: cool and I saw pictures of it, but I was
- 16:50Speaker 6: never allowed on it because that's.
- 16:53Speaker 3: Where she had parties after shows and stuff.
- 16:55Speaker 2: And so yeah, we don't on the tour bus, but
- 16:58Speaker 2: you can request.
- 16:59Speaker 3: That's other request.
- 17:00Speaker 6: If I'm allowed on your tour bus, I would like
- 17:02Speaker 6: my daughter to not be allowed on your tour bus.
- 17:04Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, done, Sorry, no, Charlotte's allowed. I gotta tell
- 17:09Speaker 2: you that song is really good. Bill. I'm not just
- 17:11Speaker 2: saying this because I love you and I love Charlotte.
- 17:14Speaker 2: I actually played the pod the end of the podcast
- 17:18Speaker 2: a few times because I love the song and I
- 17:21Speaker 2: also really thought my talk up into it was spectacular
- 17:24Speaker 2: and no, but it's a really good song. I put it.
- 17:27Speaker 2: I added it to my workout playlist.
- 17:30Speaker 6: Dude, she's killing it. I would drop everything to be
- 17:33Speaker 6: a roadie for her or for you guys. You know,
- 17:36Speaker 6: it's just so fun being around music and being around
- 17:38Speaker 6: all that stuff.
- 17:39Speaker 2: Should we talk for a second about your new show.
- 17:41Speaker 2: I want to. I feel like we should promote ted
- 17:43Speaker 2: Lasso Bill.
- 17:45Speaker 3: We can't.
- 17:45Speaker 6: I just want at the end of the mystery guest thing,
- 17:47Speaker 6: and the reason I'm going to do it and you
- 17:48Speaker 6: guys will like it is even though some mystery guests
- 17:51Speaker 6: will freak you out, a couple of them will be writers.
- 17:54Speaker 6: Because you guys are doing such interesting things talking about
- 17:57Speaker 6: the craft of acting and your experiences on it, to
- 18:00Speaker 6: occasionally throw another writer in the mix of this stuff,
- 18:02Speaker 6: and I really like it.
- 18:03Speaker 2: We'd love that.
- 18:04Speaker 1: We would really love that. You know, people, we were
- 18:05Speaker 1: talking about that on the on the last podcast. We're
- 18:08Speaker 1: actually talking about that, like it's really important to us
- 18:11Speaker 1: that we bring other people from the show because everybody
- 18:14Speaker 1: has a story to tell, and everybody has it. You know,
- 18:16Speaker 1: it was ten years of a lot of people's lives,
- 18:19Speaker 1: nine years at people's lives, so I know that there's
- 18:21Speaker 1: so many stories, like people got married.
- 18:24Speaker 6: Oh didn't we had account of how many of how
- 18:26Speaker 6: many babies were born during that show, and I think
- 18:28Speaker 6: it was up to something like thirty something between all
- 18:30Speaker 6: the actors, crew and writers and stuff.
- 18:32Speaker 3: It was crazy.
- 18:33Speaker 1: Yeah, so we we we asked, we asked our audience
- 18:38Speaker 1: and they were like, yes please, Yeah, we got.
- 18:41Speaker 2: Crew members, well, crew members, I mean we gotta we
- 18:43Speaker 2: we we said, hey, should we bring on crew people?
- 18:45Speaker 2: And people overwhelmingly said yes, So we got to think
- 18:48Speaker 2: of like that. I mean, we definitely want Patrick Bolton
- 18:50Speaker 2: because he has his own song.
- 18:51Speaker 6: But of course, you know, by the way, uh, Neil
- 18:55Speaker 6: Goldman keeps count of how many times you've mentioned his
- 18:57Speaker 6: name on your podcast, so whenever you say Neil Goldman,
- 19:00Speaker 6: I'll get a text from him that just says forementioned.
- 19:02Speaker 2: So far, Neil was one of the writers. Yeah, I
- 19:06Speaker 2: think we should have some writers on because also writers
- 19:08Speaker 2: are funny too. So Bill Mike Schwartz is in this episode.
- 19:11Speaker 2: He puts his penis in a flashlight.
- 19:13Speaker 3: Yes, it was before he was Lloyd. So he's not
- 19:16Speaker 3: Lloyd in this Oh no he's no, he's not. Remember
- 19:20Speaker 3: Lloyd started as a delivery man.
- 19:21Speaker 1: Lloyd shows up with the bricks, a ton of bricks.
- 19:24Speaker 6: Right, Lloyd's the delivery man, and then we just let
- 19:27Speaker 6: Mike do the flashlight thing, and then Lloyd continues to
- 19:30Speaker 6: be a delivery man that loves heavy metal, and then
- 19:32Speaker 6: Lloyd eventually comes to be part of the brain Trust.
- 19:35Speaker 2: Yes, now, Bill, are you sure that it's in your
- 19:38Speaker 2: mind that that's not Lloyd? Because why why is it not?
- 19:42Speaker 2: He ever says I'm Jim or anything.
- 19:44Speaker 6: I think he was acting. Maybe he is in his head,
- 19:47Speaker 6: but I didn't. I remember us arguing in the writer's
- 19:51Speaker 6: room if he was allowed to do that, and I
- 19:54Speaker 6: said yes, because at that point, by that point, I
- 19:56Speaker 6: think I'd put myself in the show three different times
- 20:00Speaker 6: once getting it.
- 20:01Speaker 3: You know, I whenever I was bored.
- 20:02Speaker 6: I don't know if you guys remembered, I used to
- 20:04Speaker 6: go put myself on the show and occasionally give myself
- 20:06Speaker 6: a line or reaction until I finally gave myself a
- 20:09Speaker 6: part as a minister that lived in the Bahamas and
- 20:11Speaker 6: then a janitor that also works at the hospital.
- 20:14Speaker 3: So I didn't have any ground to stand on. I
- 20:17Speaker 3: eventually just had to let people do it. But yeah,
- 20:21Speaker 3: let's say he's Wood.
- 20:22Speaker 1: Okay, But because that's the thing, we always joked that
- 20:25Speaker 1: the janitor didn't have any kids. But in this episode
- 20:28Speaker 1: at the end he's in front of a class. Now
- 20:30Speaker 1: my question is.
- 20:31Speaker 2: No, he's lying. He's lying.
- 20:32Speaker 3: Yeah, well he doesn't have any kids.
- 20:34Speaker 1: Yeah, So it is a it is a fantasy, and
- 20:35Speaker 1: this is something that JD dreams.
- 20:38Speaker 2: Okay, cool, Oh my god, we gotta get an episode.
- 20:40Speaker 2: It's so good. Before we do, I just want to
- 20:41Speaker 2: say Bill is too modest to talk about this, but
- 20:44Speaker 2: he has a new show with Jason Sidecz. It's it's
- 20:48Speaker 2: on Apple. It's called ted Lasso, and it's getting extraordinary reviews.
- 20:54Speaker 2: And I directed episode two and it's really fucking good
- 20:59Speaker 2: and I'm happy for you Bill. And if you're a
- 21:01Speaker 2: fan of it, and if you're a fan of this,
- 21:02Speaker 2: shhow you're gonna like it because it's very, very funny.
- 21:05Speaker 2: It's a similar well it's not fantasies and stuff. But Bill,
- 21:08Speaker 2: talk about it for a second. Plug yourself for God's sake.
- 21:10Speaker 5: Ah.
- 21:11Speaker 6: Look, Jasis Sudeikis is a very funny performer, a great actor.
- 21:15Speaker 6: But he's also was a writer on SNL first and
- 21:18Speaker 6: he wrote and came up with his character long ago.
- 21:20Speaker 6: And it's about a transplanted American college football coach that
- 21:25Speaker 6: goes over to the UK to coach a Premier league
- 21:27Speaker 6: soccer team. It's a fish out of water thing, but
- 21:29Speaker 6: you know me and man, I'm a sucker for heart
- 21:31Speaker 6: and emotions, and most importantly, I think, besides being kind
- 21:36Speaker 6: of a fun sports movie, if people could use maybe
- 21:40Speaker 6: an optimistic, hopeful show.
- 21:42Speaker 3: It is that.
- 21:43Speaker 6: And I certainly needed to work on something like that
- 21:47Speaker 6: for a change, and I'm.
- 21:49Speaker 3: Really proud of it.
- 21:49Speaker 6: You did great work, man, as I was lucky that
- 21:51Speaker 6: Zach was there and had nothing else to do that
- 21:53Speaker 6: I could kind of shang hi him and make him
- 21:55Speaker 6: direct an episode.
- 21:56Speaker 2: Well, it's funny.
- 21:56Speaker 1: I was.
- 21:56Speaker 2: I was in the UK because my girlfriend was working there,
- 21:59Speaker 2: and Bill was like, oh my god, this is perfect.
- 22:02Speaker 2: Do you want to direct an episode of the show.
- 22:04Speaker 2: And I said, oh my god, please, I'm sitting here,
- 22:06Speaker 2: I got nothing to do. I should be writing something,
- 22:08Speaker 2: but I'm just fucking around and not writing. And I
- 22:11Speaker 2: came and it was so cool because, as we've told
- 22:14Speaker 2: you on the show, when you when episode, if you know,
- 22:16Speaker 2: after the pilot, the first few episodes, you're still kind
- 22:18Speaker 2: of kind of developing the tone of the show and
- 22:20Speaker 2: figuring out the way the camera moves and and and
- 22:23Speaker 2: I was just awesome to be back on a set
- 22:26Speaker 2: with Bill so surreal this time in London. Uh and Sadeikis,
- 22:30Speaker 2: who I think is so fucking funny and talented and
- 22:33Speaker 2: a really really funny group of people. And and I I,
- 22:37Speaker 2: you know, I delivered my cut. I don't know how
- 22:39Speaker 2: much you changed my cut.
- 22:40Speaker 6: Bill, Well, no, look, stuff always changes, that's me saying
- 22:44Speaker 6: in a nice way.
- 22:44Speaker 3: We changed it some.
- 22:45Speaker 6: But Zach, but that you did establish a visual, you know,
- 22:49Speaker 6: look of the show, which was you know, and we
- 22:53Speaker 6: hadn't really even thought about it. If you're in the
- 22:55Speaker 6: UK as an American TV show, shooting these kind of
- 22:58Speaker 6: great kind of visual of where you actually are would
- 23:01Speaker 6: be silly not to do it. And you did it
- 23:03Speaker 6: in yours in Richmond and what is unbelievably beautiful site,
- 23:07Speaker 6: you know where you shot that photo shoot. You did
- 23:09Speaker 6: it with the guy walking his dogs in the town green,
- 23:12Speaker 6: which was amazing, And you kind of set a visual
- 23:15Speaker 6: style for showing big and beautiful landscapes and stuff that
- 23:19Speaker 6: we kind of continued to wrap.
- 23:20Speaker 2: Yeah, it was a lot of fun. And I had
- 23:22Speaker 2: to figure ironically, I had to figure something sportsy out. Donald,
- 23:25Speaker 2: you'll be proud of me because the show is about
- 23:27Speaker 2: a soccer team or football as we say over there,
- 23:32Speaker 2: and these these gentlemen who take care of the pitch
- 23:35Speaker 2: that's what they call the field. Donald, are so proud
- 23:38Speaker 2: of it that and of course it's beautiful. It's like
- 23:41Speaker 2: perfect that you can't run. They don't want gear on
- 23:44Speaker 2: the on the pitch.
- 23:45Speaker 6: They don't want no no, Dolly's no, no, no, no anything.
- 23:49Speaker 2: So I had to come up with the amazing key grip.
- 23:51Speaker 2: I had to come up with, and I was like,
- 23:53Speaker 2: cause I had all these shots of these guys playing
- 23:55Speaker 2: soccer like in and in and around in the game,
- 23:58Speaker 2: around them and everything, and we came up with this
- 24:00Speaker 2: amazing rig that had these big inflatable tires. It's basically
- 24:05Speaker 2: often more used for dollying on sand, but it didn't
- 24:11Speaker 2: make any imprint on the grass. And then we put
- 24:14Speaker 2: a remote head on it and these guys the grips
- 24:16Speaker 2: would run all around with it and the camera operator
- 24:19Speaker 2: was controlling it from the remote head by on the side,
- 24:21Speaker 2: and it was like approved by the greensman to be
- 24:24Speaker 2: able to be used. And I was really proud of that.
- 24:27Speaker 2: It was really cool, and.
- 24:28Speaker 3: We used it in every episode.
- 24:29Speaker 6: And when someone asked me, literally in an interview the
- 24:32Speaker 6: other day, who came up with that, I admitted that
- 24:35Speaker 6: it was me that.
- 24:42Speaker 2: You already told me. He already broke it to me
- 24:44Speaker 2: that one of my favorite shots was cut. And I'm
- 24:46Speaker 2: really sad because it was fucking such a cool shot.
- 24:49Speaker 2: But hey, this is what happens when you're a director
- 24:51Speaker 2: for a TV show. You just do all you can
- 24:54Speaker 2: and then you hand it off to a showrunner like Bill,
- 24:57Speaker 2: and sometimes you lose dope shots.
- 25:01Speaker 6: I'm going to segue into what you said about this episode,
- 25:03Speaker 6: and I'm going to compliment you guys both because what's
- 25:06Speaker 6: hard for me sometimes to watch episodes and I hadn't
- 25:09Speaker 6: watched any of these Scrubs episodes for years until you
- 25:12Speaker 6: guys started doing this is when you go back and
- 25:16Speaker 6: look at him, if you were involved in him, you always,
- 25:19Speaker 6: I do anyways, get stuck and be like, oh, I
- 25:20Speaker 6: could have done this better, and you guys have had.
- 25:22Speaker 3: You guys are so candid.
- 25:23Speaker 6: Sometimes you're like, ah, this isn't my favorite episode, you know,
- 25:26Speaker 6: And for me, what's so hard is you sometimes watch
- 25:29Speaker 6: an episode that even if.
- 25:30Speaker 3: It's one of your favorites.
- 25:31Speaker 6: You'll go, oh, it's one of my favorites because this
- 25:33Speaker 6: A story is awesome, and this B story is okay,
- 25:37Speaker 6: the C story sucks or the B story is amazing.
- 25:40Speaker 3: A story is not.
- 25:40Speaker 6: This episode I really like because I actually watched it
- 25:43Speaker 6: and liked every single story and thought it was great
- 25:45Speaker 6: for every single performer.
- 25:47Speaker 3: So I was excited that you guys, let me do
- 25:49Speaker 3: this one with you.
- 25:49Speaker 2: By the way, it was a total accident because I
- 25:52Speaker 2: just said I missed having you on, and Donald missed
- 25:54Speaker 2: having you on, and the fans always like it when
- 25:55Speaker 2: you're on, and I was like, hey, come, do come
- 25:57Speaker 2: do this one. And then I watch it today and
- 25:58Speaker 2: I was like, oh, I'm so happy we have you
- 26:00Speaker 2: because I literally stopped every ten seconds and was writing
- 26:03Speaker 2: something down.
- 26:04Speaker 1: There are a lot of great jokes in this one.
- 26:07Speaker 2: A lot of good stunts.
- 26:08Speaker 1: I gotta say, this guy great stunts.
- 26:10Speaker 2: This guy who plays JD is a fucking really good
- 26:14Speaker 2: comic stunt.
- 26:15Speaker 1: Where we get into all of that ship. Let's do
- 26:17Speaker 1: the recap.
- 26:18Speaker 2: Oh, sorry for this. As you know, we have a
- 26:21Speaker 2: new segment where Donald sums up the episode, sometimes elegantly,
- 26:26Speaker 2: sometimes horribly we'll see what's gonna happen today.
- 26:29Speaker 3: I have not heard him do one horrible and I
- 26:33Speaker 3: think I have a question.
- 26:34Speaker 6: When it's like thirty six seconds, you act disappointed?
- 26:37Speaker 2: Well, sometimes sometimes he does. He gets lazy about it.
- 26:40Speaker 2: He only comes up with like ten seconds of material
- 26:42Speaker 2: and then he stretches it out. He's like, this episode,
- 26:50Speaker 2: that's funny. Are you ready? Donald, Let's go and go.
- 26:54Speaker 1: A new character is introduced, played by Richard Kine, and
- 26:57Speaker 1: much like the Core seven, he's trying to find something.
- 27:00Speaker 1: Cox is trying to get Richard's character out of the
- 27:03Speaker 1: hospital because he feels he's wasting everyone's time. Jad's trying
- 27:06Speaker 1: to find a way back into Elliott's heart. Turk is
- 27:09Speaker 1: trying to find a way to keep an elderly woman
- 27:12Speaker 1: who just had brain surgery from driving. Elliott's a hot
- 27:15Speaker 1: mess and needs to find a place to live. The
- 27:18Speaker 1: thing about searching is it's often followed by discovery, and
- 27:21Speaker 1: all of our heroes are caught off guard when they
- 27:24Speaker 1: find what they're looking for.
- 27:25Speaker 2: Oh shit, whoa, that's the first one.
- 27:32Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 27:33Speaker 6: The first thing about searching is it often leads to discovery.
- 27:36Speaker 3: Is something that I'm going to lift and say that.
- 27:38Speaker 6: I remember when I first said that.
- 27:40Speaker 2: That isn't just that's good. I don't know if you're
- 27:45Speaker 2: just showing off because Bill was on the show today,
- 27:47Speaker 2: But that was beautiful.
- 27:50Speaker 1: When we when we when Bill agreed to come on
- 27:52Speaker 1: the show, I was like, I gotta make the freaking Yeah.
- 27:55Speaker 1: He kept a little bit better.
- 27:56Speaker 2: Yeah, he was like, I'm gonna stick the landing with
- 27:57Speaker 2: a poetic sentence. I, by the way.
- 28:01Speaker 6: Just see you guys know before the end of this
- 28:03Speaker 6: I will weave that sentence into a comment without you
- 28:06Speaker 6: guys ready for it to come.
- 28:07Speaker 3: I'm sorry going to say that. The thing about searching
- 28:09Speaker 3: is it also often leads to discovery.
- 28:11Speaker 2: And it felt like something JD would say in a
- 28:14Speaker 2: voiceover and the show.
- 28:16Speaker 3: Well, you'd say at the end of the day. First,
- 28:18Speaker 3: you'd say the.
- 28:18Speaker 1: Day, at the end of the day, at the end
- 28:21Speaker 1: of the day.
- 28:23Speaker 3: Did you guys ever tell that piece of trivia?
- 28:25Speaker 6: It's one of my favorite things that I don't know
- 28:27Speaker 6: if you both know or remember, is when our show
- 28:30Speaker 6: was at its hottest, a small publishing company said, hey,
- 28:36Speaker 6: we'd like to give you some money, which is always
- 28:38Speaker 6: interesting and money in advances. We want to do a
- 28:41Speaker 6: book of all those kind of inspirational life guidance scrubs quotes,
- 28:46Speaker 6: JD voiceovers at the end. And we initially ran on
- 28:49Speaker 6: and I were like, oh, we're definitely doing that. Of course,
- 28:52Speaker 6: you know, it'll be do, it'll be whatever, it'll be great.
- 28:55Speaker 6: And some of them are really good. But then when
- 28:57Speaker 6: you take all the manipulative indie music out, guys, and
- 29:02Speaker 6: you remove your performances, some of them literally are like
- 29:06Speaker 6: at the end of the day, things.
- 29:07Speaker 3: Happen, and then other things happen.
- 29:10Speaker 6: And sometimes the things make you sad, and sometimes the
- 29:14Speaker 6: things make you happy. And and we were, by the way,
- 29:18Speaker 6: we were immediately looking at him going, oh, we can't
- 29:20Speaker 6: do this.
- 29:20Speaker 2: Ever, I remember sometimes I remember sometimes recording him being
- 29:26Speaker 2: like this makes no fucking sense. But then you slap,
- 29:29Speaker 2: you slap the little indie music gone in and do
- 29:31Speaker 2: a cool slow motion crane shot and bam, you're there.
- 29:36Speaker 6: When you when when push comes to shoves, sometimes your
- 29:39Speaker 6: friends are your friends, and sometimes your enemies or your enemies.
- 29:43Speaker 3: Bomb bomb bomb.
- 29:44Speaker 9: But in the end, but in the end, he's gonna
- 29:52Speaker 9: add with like a meaningful word like and in the end,
- 29:54Speaker 9: it all comes down to friendship.
- 29:58Speaker 3: Dude, ude, do do you so cheap?
- 30:04Speaker 4: Mess?
- 30:04Speaker 3: Sorry?
- 30:05Speaker 2: All right? So the episode opens with JD talking about
- 30:10Speaker 2: black people in movie theaters yelling at the screen. Yeah,
- 30:15Speaker 2: I don't know if we're allowed to make that joke anymore.
- 30:17Speaker 2: I apologize if it's a cancer, it's that Joelle.
- 30:20Speaker 1: And so dude, we make fun of that.
- 30:22Speaker 4: Listen.
- 30:23Speaker 5: I understand why why people feel like they can't do
- 30:25Speaker 5: it because your culture doesn't allow it. Our culture does
- 30:28Speaker 5: allow it. And it's the best part of being black,
- 30:30Speaker 5: and to react to the screen.
- 30:32Speaker 1: It's one of the best things ever.
- 30:34Speaker 4: Do.
- 30:34Speaker 5: See a movie on the South Side of Chicago, blow
- 30:37Speaker 5: your mind. You're like a totally different experience.
- 30:40Speaker 1: Who you going in that room?
- 30:45Speaker 3: Donald?
- 30:45Speaker 6: Do you remember uh Eddie Murphy's Amityville horror bit when
- 30:50Speaker 6: he was kind of doing he was doing a bit
- 30:52Speaker 6: about talking to the movie theater, and then he also
- 30:55Speaker 6: segued into how white people in the horror movies don't
- 30:59Speaker 6: listen to the ghosts, you know, like in amity Little
- 31:02Speaker 6: Horror like.
- 31:03Speaker 1: It right, I went something like I went to see
- 31:09Speaker 1: the horror movie and you know, the ghast goes get
- 31:12Speaker 1: out right and and the people stayed in the house.
- 31:15Speaker 1: If it was a black family, they'd be like, Wow,
- 31:16Speaker 1: look at this beautiful house. Look at the lovely furniture.
- 31:19Speaker 1: It's got a pool in the back of Oh my God,
- 31:21Speaker 1: leads to a lake. This is great. Ge't out too bad.
- 31:24Speaker 1: We can't stay.
- 31:30Speaker 3: But by the way, Zach, you just stumbled onto something
- 31:32Speaker 3: that we talked about in the writer's room a lot.
- 31:34Speaker 3: And why I'm.
- 31:36Speaker 6: Grateful for Joelle chiming in is there's one It's that's
- 31:40Speaker 6: the line you have to find in these writers rooms.
- 31:43Speaker 3: Man.
- 31:43Speaker 6: Is it would be one thing for JD to make
- 31:46Speaker 6: fun of, Oh, Turk, you and other black people talk
- 31:50Speaker 6: in the movie theater. The other thing is when you
- 31:53Speaker 6: get to an endpoint of what Joelle just said, which
- 31:55Speaker 6: was true for me, is turk going to you?
- 31:58Speaker 3: You wish you could talk during the movie? Is you
- 32:01Speaker 3: know what I mean to me? That's that's what I love.
- 32:03Speaker 3: I have anxiety such a friendship moment.
- 32:05Speaker 2: My father was fucking nuts about people talking in the
- 32:08Speaker 2: movie theater, and I have anxiety about it because he
- 32:13Speaker 2: would often confront people. I'm not we didn't go to
- 32:16Speaker 2: a movie theater like you know, like you're saying, Joel
- 32:18Speaker 2: on the South Side of Chicago or what. But we
- 32:20Speaker 2: were going in the suburbs and not just black people,
- 32:23Speaker 2: white people. People would talk during the movie and he
- 32:25Speaker 2: would confront them, and I get like anxiety thinking about
- 32:28Speaker 2: it now because it was so embarrassing, and I just
- 32:32Speaker 2: I don't know. I whenever I go to the movie
- 32:34Speaker 2: theater and someone's talking, I get all stressed about it.
- 32:38Speaker 6: That's why the amount of times I've heard my wife
- 32:41Speaker 6: say just open your candy to somebody, because you know
- 32:44Speaker 6: how people, I'm one of these people.
- 32:47Speaker 3: It's better.
- 32:47Speaker 6: It's better to open your candy slow, you know, But
- 32:50Speaker 6: then the crinkle just lasts longer rather than just to
- 32:53Speaker 6: rip it open. So if someone is crinkling their little
- 32:56Speaker 6: bag of sour gut, Chris is like, just open your candy,
- 32:59Speaker 6: open your can.
- 33:00Speaker 2: God.
- 33:00Speaker 1: I used to love going to the movie theaters and
- 33:03Speaker 1: to the movie and seeing a movie and hearing not
- 33:07Speaker 1: people talk like amongst themselves, but talk with the movie theater.
- 33:11Speaker 6: You know.
- 33:12Speaker 1: I grew up in New York City. My parents belonged
- 33:15Speaker 1: to a theater in Harlem, and so the Apollo Theater
- 33:18Speaker 1: was up the block, and there was a movie theater
- 33:20Speaker 1: right next to the Apollo Theater, and I remember going
- 33:24Speaker 1: and seeing School Days in that movie theater, and it's
- 33:28Speaker 1: a Spike Lee movie about college rushing, Black college rushing,
- 33:33Speaker 1: and so they would have step shows and all of
- 33:35Speaker 1: these things, and I remember they had a step there's
- 33:38Speaker 1: a step show in the movie, and this fraternity is
- 33:43Speaker 1: going hard. And I remember sitting in the audience with
- 33:47Speaker 1: my best friend and his dad and looking over and
- 33:50Speaker 1: people were in the aisle stepping.
- 33:54Speaker 2: To the freaking movies.
- 33:56Speaker 1: And you know, if you're not, if you're listen, and
- 34:00Speaker 1: if you don't know better, you'd be like, oh, this
- 34:02Speaker 1: is part of the show. But I knew it wasn't
- 34:04Speaker 1: a part of the show. I knew these people caught
- 34:06Speaker 1: feelings for the moment that was going on. And so
- 34:08Speaker 1: now we're not even watching the movie anymore. We're watching
- 34:10Speaker 1: the people in the aisle dance and everything like that.
- 34:13Speaker 1: And I get a kick out of I get a
- 34:15Speaker 1: kick out of stuff like that. If you can say
- 34:16Speaker 1: something in a movie and it's funny and it and
- 34:20Speaker 1: it's a moment where it needs, you know, where a
- 34:24Speaker 1: joke is lacking or something like that, I kudos, man,
- 34:27Speaker 1: if you could do that.
- 34:27Speaker 2: And I'm in a theater, so you like it when
- 34:29Speaker 2: you when you go to like a movie theater and
- 34:31Speaker 2: everyone's like making wise cracks at the movie.
- 34:33Speaker 4: You don't mind it.
- 34:34Speaker 2: You think it's funny.
- 34:35Speaker 1: I mean, they made TV shows about this ship Mystery
- 34:38Speaker 1: Science Theater.
- 34:39Speaker 2: I know, but those people are funny, I'm sure not
- 34:41Speaker 2: everyone yelling shit at the movie theater.
- 34:42Speaker 1: Right, I can't like. Look if you if you if
- 34:44Speaker 1: the ship that you're saying at the screen is not funny,
- 34:46Speaker 1: then we got a problem. And you know, please, you
- 34:48Speaker 1: better keep it to your seat, you better, you bet right,
- 34:51Speaker 1: that's one of those things. If you're gonna interrupt the movie,
- 34:53Speaker 1: you better say something funny. Don't say it falls flat.
- 35:00Speaker 6: Don't you think this divides people as far as movie
- 35:03Speaker 6: fans like I have some friends that are happy to
- 35:08Speaker 6: never go to a movie theater again and to say,
- 35:10Speaker 6: oh my gosh, I hope movies are always released into
- 35:12Speaker 6: your house. And there's something for me about the community
- 35:16Speaker 6: experience of it all that I would I would miss
- 35:17Speaker 6: it forever, you know.
- 35:18Speaker 2: I agree with that, especially Spectacle And you know, don't
- 35:22Speaker 2: get Donald starting it on Marvel movies and Star Wars,
- 35:25Speaker 2: but for me, like Donald likes Star Wars, no he
- 35:27Speaker 2: hates it. I don't know. I don't know. I don't
- 35:30Speaker 2: know if you've heard, but he's been cast as Chubaka's
- 35:32Speaker 2: cousin who can talk.
- 35:34Speaker 3: By the way, is there a way?
- 35:36Speaker 6: There has to be a way that we can, you know, Oprah,
- 35:41Speaker 6: this into reality because you guys have been talking about
- 35:43Speaker 6: it so very much.
- 35:44Speaker 3: We have to.
- 35:45Speaker 1: I've been trying to see someone with thet I've been
- 35:48Speaker 1: trying to secret this shit for like thirty forty six years, dude,
- 35:53Speaker 1: since I when does Star Wars come out? I've been
- 35:56Speaker 1: trying to secret this shit. I'm gonna be in a
- 35:57Speaker 1: Star Wars movie one day. I'm gotten close up and
- 36:00Speaker 1: on the Star Wars television show.
- 36:02Speaker 2: Yeah, the only way it happens, the only way it
- 36:05Speaker 2: happens if someone we know well gets to direct one
- 36:08Speaker 2: of them.
- 36:09Speaker 1: And no, that's not the only way it happens.
- 36:11Speaker 6: No, there's a there's uh, there's three degrees of JJ
- 36:15Speaker 6: out there too.
- 36:16Speaker 3: We just got to figure it out.
- 36:17Speaker 1: JJ ain't hiring me. JJ hired me a long time ago.
- 36:21Speaker 1: He ain't hired me since. I remember I had a
- 36:22Speaker 1: meeting with JJ. I remember I had a meeting with
- 36:24Speaker 1: JJ and he was talking about Star Trek right, and
- 36:27Speaker 1: he didn't want to give it away, and I was like, well,
- 36:29Speaker 1: is there a part for me? He was like, no,
- 36:30Speaker 1: there's no part for you in this one. But the
- 36:32Speaker 1: next one, Donald, And then I was like, oh yeah, okay,
- 36:35Speaker 1: bet freaking they made three Star Trek movies. I'm not
- 36:40Speaker 1: in any of them. Then he gets Star Wars and
- 36:42Speaker 1: he goes and hires John Boyega instead of me.
- 36:45Speaker 2: Listen man, for me, it was supposed to be forty six.
- 36:51Speaker 2: I don't think that Stormbrober was supposed to be forty six.
- 36:53Speaker 1: No offense, I was listen man, listen man.
- 36:58Speaker 2: By the way, in all that, why is that old
- 37:00Speaker 2: stormtrooper limping?
- 37:02Speaker 6: By the way, every appearance I've had on this podcast,
- 37:05Speaker 6: that's the most offended that Donald ever looked.
- 37:07Speaker 3: That moment right there. I saw pure actual anger.
- 37:10Speaker 2: Sudden before before before the black Stormtrooper takes off his helmet,
- 37:14Speaker 2: you see him like holding his back and limping.
- 37:16Speaker 1: And they're like, I'm just saying, man, stormtroopers can be
- 37:22Speaker 1: old or they could be young. They are military.
- 37:25Speaker 2: I don't think there's any old Stormtroopers.
- 37:26Speaker 6: How funny would that be if the Stormtroopers were all
- 37:30Speaker 6: the original Stormtroopers and they take the.
- 37:36Speaker 1: Later.
- 37:39Speaker 2: Bill, one of my life goals is to try and
- 37:40Speaker 2: get him in one of the movies. I'll do anything.
- 37:43Speaker 2: I'll turn tricks whatever JJ needs.
- 37:45Speaker 1: Will you turns?
- 37:46Speaker 2: I'll turn a trick for JJA whatever he needs.
- 37:51Speaker 1: No, no, no, no, okay, hold on, let's not concentrate
- 37:54Speaker 1: on JJJ is great, right, Let's focus on what you want. Meloney.
- 38:00Speaker 2: Oh, I remember I hit up Dave Filoni when you
- 38:02Speaker 2: were at the premiere. I said directly, you've got to
- 38:04Speaker 2: hire this and he did. He put you in the cartoon.
- 38:06Speaker 3: And Jon Favreau, John Favreau, good guy, you know what
- 38:10Speaker 3: you know?
- 38:10Speaker 6: In Another Angle is one of Charlotte's best friends, and
- 38:14Speaker 6: Zach and Don.
- 38:14Speaker 3: You guys will love her music. She was just on
- 38:16Speaker 3: foul the other night.
- 38:17Speaker 6: Gracie Abrams, who is another young female singer songwriter. You guys,
- 38:23Speaker 6: when you embrace that music, how organic?
- 38:25Speaker 3: Is it?
- 38:26Speaker 6: Just too because she's so talented to suddenly play her
- 38:29Speaker 6: song have her as a guest.
- 38:31Speaker 3: See what I did?
- 38:32Speaker 2: Bill, I'm sorry we only play one young woman's pop
- 38:35Speaker 2: music on the show Shot at Lin.
- 38:36Speaker 3: As it should be as it should be?
- 38:37Speaker 6: Thank you?
- 38:38Speaker 3: All right?
- 38:40Speaker 2: Should we talk about why is Elliott wearing a very
- 38:43Speaker 2: cute nighty on the first night of Friend night She's on.
- 38:48Speaker 3: I saw that as a moment.
- 38:49Speaker 6: Is that you, as a producer, you get mad when
- 38:52Speaker 6: you occasionally see moments in shows where you go an
- 38:56Speaker 6: actor actress decision happened that maybe wasn't the best of
- 39:00Speaker 6: the show.
- 39:01Speaker 3: So like one of them was.
- 39:02Speaker 6: Every time that I would go down into dailies and
- 39:05Speaker 6: I would be like, why are we digging through so
- 39:07Speaker 6: many takes? And the editor would be like, oh, because
- 39:09Speaker 6: Johnny McGinley decided you wanted to juggle, why you said
- 39:12Speaker 6: this line? Oh my god? And this is one if
- 39:17Speaker 6: I were to bet, I would say that it said Sarah,
- 39:21Speaker 6: you know, Elliott wakes up and that Sarah with wardrobe.
- 39:24Speaker 6: Because you guys were able to control your characters, would
- 39:26Speaker 6: be like, I think I would wake up in an
- 39:28Speaker 6: incredibly adorable nightie. And even in an episode that I
- 39:33Speaker 6: was trying to say I'm moving on from the romantic
- 39:35Speaker 6: relationship with my friend.
- 39:37Speaker 2: It does feel like a bit of a teasing thing
- 39:39Speaker 2: because like, if this were real life and then she
- 39:42Speaker 2: had really cut it off and said no more sex,
- 39:45Speaker 2: I'm going to see sweat sweatshirt. Yeah, sweatshirt, sweatpants. She's
- 39:49Speaker 2: wearing like a super little sexy little number.
- 39:54Speaker 3: But I think that's guys and girls.
- 39:55Speaker 6: You guys all made some decisions for yourself on how
- 39:57Speaker 6: your hair would.
- 39:58Speaker 3: Look, what you wear. You guys were all pretty. I
- 40:00Speaker 3: mean the shoes.
- 40:01Speaker 1: You remember when Johnny came back with a bald head?
- 40:04Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, no, yeah, Donald, I do.
- 40:09Speaker 3: I remember that. I remember when Johnny he just talked
- 40:11Speaker 3: about it.
- 40:11Speaker 6: I remember when he said, maybe I'm gonna experiment with
- 40:13Speaker 6: how words sound.
- 40:17Speaker 3: It was also super fun.
- 40:20Speaker 2: Anyway, I was proud of my my first of many
- 40:23Speaker 2: stunts hits in this episode on that lamp lamp. That
- 40:29Speaker 2: lamp hit is gorgeous, very good.
- 40:30Speaker 1: I broke I did not I did not fall into lamp.
- 40:34Speaker 3: I did not mark the lamp down.
- 40:35Speaker 6: But I will tell you and you guys can say
- 40:37Speaker 6: that we in the writer's room had Zach's five best pratfalls,
- 40:42Speaker 6: and two of the top five are in this episode.
- 40:45Speaker 2: Yeah, there's some good ones and we'll get to them.
- 40:47Speaker 2: But I gotta say the lamp. The thing that makes
- 40:50Speaker 2: the lamp extra funny is that it swings when I
- 40:52Speaker 2: hit it. And then also the sound effect that's on it,
- 40:55Speaker 2: but it's which which always sort of sweetened the comedic pratfall.
- 40:59Speaker 2: But that that's a good one.
- 41:01Speaker 1: That was a great one.
- 41:02Speaker 2: And then of course when I the next one right
- 41:04Speaker 2: away is when I I Sarah parks her truck so
- 41:07Speaker 2: tightly and I have to squeeze out of the of
- 41:11Speaker 2: the passenger side and then I fall on the ground.
- 41:13Speaker 2: That was a good one too.
- 41:14Speaker 3: Yeah, that's one of your top three.
- 41:16Speaker 2: And that one comes with.
- 41:19Speaker 3: There's there's a.
- 41:20Speaker 6: Chance, there is a chance, and I'm I don't want
- 41:23Speaker 6: to say it definitively. You have to go back and
- 41:25Speaker 6: listen to it that I added the noise.
- 41:28Speaker 3: No, yes, I did, because often in editing.
- 41:33Speaker 6: I would go I would do it for you when
- 41:36Speaker 6: it didn't exist on the track, I would.
- 41:39Speaker 2: I would think, this far into scrubs, you had like
- 41:42Speaker 2: a whole library of.
- 41:46Speaker 1: Isn't the first, No, No.
- 41:49Speaker 3: I think there's been a bunch.
- 41:51Speaker 6: But Donald, we reached a point that if we didn't
- 41:53Speaker 6: have other looping for Zach to do, and I was
- 41:55Speaker 6: editing late, I would just put up a microphone and
- 41:57Speaker 6: add it, because it's no noise that we could all.
- 42:02Speaker 2: All right, we need to we need to take a break,
- 42:04Speaker 2: We'll be right back.
- 42:11Speaker 4: And.
- 42:14Speaker 1: We're back.
- 42:16Speaker 2: So basically one of the themes of this episode seems
- 42:19Speaker 2: to be, and I don't know if it's true. We
- 42:20Speaker 2: can have Joel way In as the as the female
- 42:23Speaker 2: voice of the podcast, but Elliott or Bill or I
- 42:27Speaker 2: guess the writer or who was Gabby Allen, I believe
- 42:30Speaker 2: is saying women can move on from this sort of
- 42:34Speaker 2: thing quicker than men. I don't know if that's a.
- 42:37Speaker 1: Universal truths so we think that's true. I think that's true.
- 42:41Speaker 1: I think women are very and this is speaking as
- 42:46Speaker 1: a man, so obviously take it with a grain of salt. Uh.
- 42:49Speaker 1: I think women are easier to say no, I don't
- 42:53Speaker 1: want to do that anymore, even if they do want
- 42:56Speaker 1: to do that and they know it's bad for them,
- 42:58Speaker 1: whereas a man, whereas JD's running around thinking about his
- 43:03Speaker 1: privates and what Elliott did to his privates and not
- 43:08Speaker 1: necessarily what the relationship was, where As Elliott was like,
- 43:12Speaker 1: if I continue doing this, I'm going to get in
- 43:14Speaker 1: a relationship with this guy.
- 43:15Speaker 2: So what you're saying is women maybe have the ability
- 43:19Speaker 2: to control their urges more and say this is bad
- 43:22Speaker 2: long term I'm going to stop. Whereas a man stereotypically
- 43:26Speaker 2: would be like, fuck it all, I just want to
- 43:29Speaker 2: be with you. Let's be impulsive and do it now.
- 43:32Speaker 1: Right, Let's do it now. Fuck the consequences.
- 43:35Speaker 6: I would only tell you, guys that even though you're
- 43:37Speaker 6: doing it gender based, I think these things are character based.
- 43:40Speaker 3: And we would.
- 43:41Speaker 6: Say that we established Elliott on this show as someone
- 43:45Speaker 6: that is able to compartmentalize things and take emotions out
- 43:48Speaker 6: of it.
- 43:49Speaker 3: Like you guys remember with Scott.
- 43:50Speaker 6: Foley that she was able to be like I really
- 43:52Speaker 6: dig you, but it doesn't work right now. I'm trying
- 43:53Speaker 6: to do medicine, so this is over. And he was
- 43:55Speaker 6: like a head of her heels in love with her
- 43:57Speaker 6: in our heads. She is somebody that right or wrong,
- 44:00Speaker 6: is able to go. I'm going to focus on this
- 44:02Speaker 6: now and that's over. I'm going to focus on this
- 44:04Speaker 6: now and that's over. And j D is a character
- 44:07Speaker 6: that lives in the emotional world and never being able
- 44:09Speaker 6: to let go of that stuff and noting.
- 44:11Speaker 2: But Bill, I think you had her say. I mean, again,
- 44:13Speaker 2: it's herb Elliot's point of view, but I think she
- 44:15Speaker 2: said something like, oh, your guys can women doesn't someone
- 44:20Speaker 2: make it about gender in the show? Am I wrong?
- 44:23Speaker 6: I don't remember, but if we, if we did, it
- 44:26Speaker 6: would be because Gabby Allen, who is one of the
- 44:28Speaker 6: dominant you know, not only female voices, but voices on
- 44:32Speaker 6: the show, is without a doubt that type of very strong,
- 44:37Speaker 6: kind of.
- 44:39Speaker 3: Altogether woman as far as she is mentally such.
- 44:42Speaker 2: Well, what do you think about it?
- 44:43Speaker 1: I lean toward the JD side of things, where I'm
- 44:46Speaker 1: like when and Joel, I'll let you answer this, but
- 44:48Speaker 1: I feel like I'm like the person like my wife
- 44:52Speaker 1: will be like, that's it, there's no more of that.
- 44:53Speaker 1: We're not doing that anymore. And I'll be I'm the
- 44:55Speaker 1: one that says, please, let's just try one more time.
- 44:59Speaker 1: You know what I mean, Joelle, I'm sorry to cut
- 45:03Speaker 1: you off.
- 45:03Speaker 5: I liked Bill's description of it's person specific because I
- 45:08Speaker 5: am definitely not the person who's gonna I can't compartmentalize.
- 45:11Speaker 5: It's all happening at once, all the time, always, and
- 45:14Speaker 5: I have to see everything from all the different angles.
- 45:16Speaker 1: The ability to just be like no, but.
- 45:18Speaker 5: We're still for to be like I don't. I can't
- 45:20Speaker 5: switch emotionally that fast.
- 45:22Speaker 3: It's too much.
- 45:24Speaker 1: But but if you knew somebody was wrong for you
- 45:28Speaker 1: or right for you, but you needed to focus on
- 45:30Speaker 1: your job.
- 45:31Speaker 5: You're about to make me reveal so much about myself.
- 45:33Speaker 2: Oh good, this is how Oprah does it.
- 45:37Speaker 1: This just end, Joe. Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome to
- 45:43Speaker 1: the show. Joe.
- 45:44Speaker 2: Wow.
- 45:48Speaker 1: When dealing with relationships and breaking up, you find it
- 45:54Speaker 1: easier to still like this is what this is how
- 45:58Speaker 1: I look at it. Like, you break up with somebody
- 46:01Speaker 1: and then there's that little bit of excess that happens
- 46:04Speaker 1: right before you. Guys are like, you know what, that's it,
- 46:06Speaker 1: We're done right. The trickle right, that's that little trickle
- 46:10Speaker 1: which is usually brought on by the dude. The dude
- 46:13Speaker 1: from my opinion, as I said, I'm speaking for self
- 46:16Speaker 1: from my side of things, usually when I broke up
- 46:19Speaker 1: with somebody, there was that extra trickle that I pushed
- 46:22Speaker 1: forward even though I knew this could go the wrong way.
- 46:26Speaker 1: And then it was finally the lady that I was
- 46:30Speaker 1: doing this too, that was like, you need to either
- 46:33Speaker 1: shit or get off the pot. One two. You know what,
- 46:39Speaker 1: do you think I am a toy that you can
- 46:41Speaker 1: just come and do what you want to do? You
- 46:42Speaker 1: know what I mean.
- 46:45Speaker 2: This was me by the way.
- 46:46Speaker 3: Yeah, by the way, is Zach Zach just survey knows?
- 46:51Speaker 3: Can I hear you say? What do you think I'm
- 46:53Speaker 3: a toy that you just do what you want to do?
- 46:56Speaker 2: What do you think I'm a toy that you can
- 46:57Speaker 2: just do what you want to do? You go, you
- 47:00Speaker 2: go and play your sports and then you just come
- 47:02Speaker 2: and use me.
- 47:04Speaker 1: No, that's exactly what you said. That is exactly.
- 47:09Speaker 2: But you know what I mean.
- 47:10Speaker 1: Are you don't You don't fall into that category. You're
- 47:13Speaker 1: not the person I mean I'm I'm totally the person
- 47:16Speaker 1: that's like I'm gonna try and have my cake and
- 47:17Speaker 1: I'm gonna try and eat it too.
- 47:19Speaker 5: Yeah, this is why I don't do a lot of dating.
- 47:21Speaker 5: People are terrible for me, and people are like, why
- 47:22Speaker 5: are you with this person?
- 47:23Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 47:25Speaker 5: You never like anybody who's necessarily a good person.
- 47:28Speaker 3: It's just a long stream of life. You stick with
- 47:32Speaker 3: that that's gonna work out for you.
- 47:34Speaker 2: I definitely.
- 47:40Speaker 7: I was.
- 47:41Speaker 2: I was in a relationship once where the girl ended
- 47:44Speaker 2: it and it was so cut off so quickly. It
- 47:47Speaker 2: wasn't let anything happen. It was just kind of like
- 47:50Speaker 2: she didn't give any trickle. There was no dot dot dot.
- 47:52Speaker 6: This this episode is based on that. Do you know
- 47:55Speaker 6: that what that that thing from your real life? This
- 47:59Speaker 6: episode is based on it.
- 48:00Speaker 2: Oh well yeah, this particular person kind of just basically
- 48:04Speaker 2: put their handout and was like, buddy.
- 48:06Speaker 3: Buy because it brings up, it brings up.
- 48:10Speaker 2: I was like, buddies. And again, it wasn't like obviously
- 48:14Speaker 2: if someone if something happened, then then there's more, you know,
- 48:17Speaker 2: if someone was unfaithful or someone or if there was
- 48:20Speaker 2: a big argument. This was none of that. This is
- 48:21Speaker 2: like a should we be friends? Yeah? And then I
- 48:25Speaker 2: had such feelings of like I'm unsure and dot dot
- 48:28Speaker 2: DoD and trickle trickle trickle, and she's like paths with
- 48:33Speaker 2: her handout, and I was like, what now.
- 48:35Speaker 6: This is one of my favorite things that I wanted
- 48:36Speaker 6: to talk about because this is one of the first
- 48:38Speaker 6: times I remember the advantage of becoming really close with
- 48:41Speaker 6: the cast and crew and writers on a TV show
- 48:45Speaker 6: is I didn't know if you'd bring it up, Zach,
- 48:47Speaker 6: but you and I were getting you know, we're hanging
- 48:51Speaker 6: out and being friends, and you told me about this
- 48:53Speaker 6: in your life in a way that you know, it
- 48:55Speaker 6: was obviously affecting you emostly, and you were hurt. And
- 48:58Speaker 6: I think I was a decent friend when you talk
- 49:00Speaker 6: about it. But then when I left, I'm like, this
- 49:02Speaker 6: will be a pretty good episode.
- 49:10Speaker 2: That shit happened all over the place, dude, And it's
- 49:12Speaker 2: funny now rewatching the show twenty years later, Donald and
- 49:16Speaker 2: I are both seeing things, were like, wait, that was
- 49:18Speaker 2: us that weekend, you remember, Like I think at the
- 49:21Speaker 2: time we at the time we didn't notice. But a
- 49:23Speaker 2: little by a little, it became our lives. You were going,
- 49:26Speaker 2: you were going like, oh, I don't know what we're
- 49:27Speaker 2: gonna write this week. Oh I have an idea.
- 49:31Speaker 3: Yeah, it's like, Donald, anything going on in your life,
- 49:33Speaker 3: you want to tell me about real quick, because we're
- 49:34Speaker 3: all stuck.
- 49:37Speaker 1: You know, what really became true was after Scrubs was
- 49:42Speaker 1: over and I met my wife. It really became Turk,
- 49:48Speaker 1: Carla and JD in my life in real life, like
- 49:53Speaker 1: I would go out, Casey and I would go out,
- 49:55Speaker 1: and our partner for everything that we did was always
- 49:59Speaker 1: Zach and it would be like, let's bring him out
- 50:01Speaker 1: so he could meet someone, and yeah, that's a that's
- 50:05Speaker 1: a that's a weird, dynastic. Take care of him, right,
- 50:07Speaker 1: let's take care of him. But part of it is
- 50:09Speaker 1: also let's bring some entertainment so that you and I
- 50:12Speaker 1: aren't just staring at each other at the table, looking
- 50:14Speaker 1: at each other. You know, we'll talk about a couple
- 50:16Speaker 1: of things and then like.
- 50:18Speaker 2: I was like, I was like the court gesture that
- 50:20Speaker 2: you brought out.
- 50:21Speaker 6: It's also super fun for Donald and Casey be like,
- 50:23Speaker 6: also at the end of the night, we get to
- 50:25Speaker 6: decide if he gets to have sex with someone or not.
- 50:29Speaker 3: Case handles if he did.
- 50:31Speaker 1: Meet someone, we'd be like, no, she's not for you,
- 50:33Speaker 1: or it's totally for you, or right, you're absolutely right, bro.
- 50:37Speaker 3: That's super fun.
- 50:38Speaker 1: It is a lot of fun. I'll show you and
- 50:40Speaker 1: christ have done that a couple of times with him
- 50:42Speaker 1: as well.
- 50:43Speaker 3: Yeah. Also a Zach Yes, oh yeah, I was forever
- 50:46Speaker 3: a bride'smaid, never a bride.
- 50:48Speaker 1: Well those days are overbuddy, maybe those.
- 50:50Speaker 2: Days are We'll see. Hey, Nurse Roberts says, if he
- 50:53Speaker 2: turns out to be her brother, this is better than
- 50:56Speaker 2: my story. Yeah, Nurse Roberts had something.
- 51:03Speaker 1: Yeah, she's slaves every time, man, Alona dude, every time.
- 51:07Speaker 6: Now, now, he's Now he's all mad, yeah, mad, Oh
- 51:12Speaker 6: my god, I laughed so hard.
- 51:14Speaker 2: Now he's all mad. But also I go, I go,
- 51:16Speaker 2: I don't feel weird, and Sarah goes, I don't feel weird,
- 51:18Speaker 2: and she goes, I feel weird.
- 51:21Speaker 6: Well, you guys realize we're about to get to well
- 51:23Speaker 6: you passed by the way the too minute. One of
- 51:25Speaker 6: the first Johnny was he did experiment with the word naughty. Yeah,
- 51:28Speaker 6: and I said, I think he says it is kanatei
- 51:30Speaker 6: or something, not Tai, not ti. I love Johnny c Man.
- 51:36Speaker 6: That guy is so prepared and so good. But for
- 51:39Speaker 6: me this I was so happy, and I want to
- 51:41Speaker 6: lead you guys in because you can tell I don't
- 51:43Speaker 6: even know how it came to be. But at three
- 51:45Speaker 6: forty or Richard Kind is on the show, and I
- 51:47Speaker 6: think this is his uh.
- 51:48Speaker 3: I believe it's his first appearance as a hypochondriac. And
- 51:53Speaker 3: for whatever reason, on our show, the.
- 51:55Speaker 6: Cast, sometimes the oddest lions would become iconic for our
- 52:00Speaker 6: group of things that you guys said for years and years,
- 52:02Speaker 6: and I never understood why.
- 52:05Speaker 3: One of them was I have yabah. It was just
- 52:08Speaker 3: to hear that again.
- 52:09Speaker 6: Oh it wasn't about that that made all you guys
- 52:12Speaker 6: so you guys all said it for years.
- 52:14Speaker 1: Yeah, you go ahead, Zach.
- 52:16Speaker 2: I just think Richard Kind is so fucking funny, and
- 52:20Speaker 2: everything he says makes me laugh. He's like, he looks
- 52:23Speaker 2: like he's like a he's like a muppet, like he's
- 52:25Speaker 2: got this giant mouth. And he's a really good actor.
- 52:29Speaker 2: One of the things about great comedic actors is that
- 52:32Speaker 2: they're often really good dramatic actors as well. Richard Kind
- 52:35Speaker 2: has a little short monologue at the end of this
- 52:37Speaker 2: episode that gave me goosebumps, and he spends so poignant yes,
- 52:41Speaker 2: and he spends the whole first part of the episode
- 52:43Speaker 2: being hysterical.
- 52:45Speaker 3: Oh and have you ever Yeah, have you ever had
- 52:46Speaker 3: sex with a chimp? If you have, yeah, I have
- 52:48Speaker 3: been to the zoo.
- 52:49Speaker 2: Yes, it wasn't sex with the chimp.
- 52:52Speaker 1: It's like, have you have you have you been around primeates?
- 52:55Speaker 2: Exotic primates? I had been to the zoo. Continue. But
- 53:00Speaker 2: also he's just so funny. In fact, every time I
- 53:03Speaker 2: run into him for the last twenty years, which is
- 53:05Speaker 2: probably once a year, I always go I have yah
- 53:07Speaker 2: bah and he starts laughing.
- 53:09Speaker 1: Well, he has one line in the show that we
- 53:12Speaker 1: don't talk about that made me laugh so hard, and
- 53:16Speaker 1: I and and and I'm gonna do a bad line reading.
- 53:19Speaker 1: But Johnny Cock says to him, so how was your day?
- 53:22Speaker 1: He goes, it was horrible, horrible, It was horrible, and
- 53:26Speaker 1: it made sounds like a dolphin giving birth. I it
- 53:32Speaker 1: sounds like a dolphin.
- 53:34Speaker 2: It was horrible, horrible.
- 53:37Speaker 1: It may sounds like a dolphin.
- 53:38Speaker 2: By the way, and you have Zeltzer come in now.
- 53:41Speaker 2: This is I believe Zeltzer's Bob Clendennan's second episode and
- 53:46Speaker 2: he just I just sorry. I wrote down Bill, you
- 53:49Speaker 2: have to come up with the show for for Bob
- 53:51Speaker 2: Clindennon and Richard Kine because I would watch this shit
- 53:53Speaker 2: out of it. Two of them together are so funny.
- 53:57Speaker 6: Well, I look, you guys. I gotta give you guys
- 53:59Speaker 6: a compliment. Sometimes I get grief. But as doing an
- 54:02Speaker 6: interview the other day that somebody said about Ted Lasso, oh,
- 54:06Speaker 6: it'll be weird seeing a show of yours without the
- 54:08Speaker 6: Bill Lawrence players in it.
- 54:09Speaker 3: And what they sometimes criticized was like every cast.
- 54:13Speaker 6: Member of Spin City, for the most part, you know
- 54:15Speaker 6: that was available, came and did Scrubs, and now you
- 54:18Speaker 6: and Donald and Sarah and everybody you know on Scrubs
- 54:22Speaker 6: is doing whenever they could other shows of mine, and
- 54:25Speaker 6: then everybody on Cougartown has done you know, Bob's Bob
- 54:29Speaker 6: Guindan and ended up being on Cougartown. It's for me
- 54:32Speaker 6: such a gift that you guys will keep working with me,
- 54:35Speaker 6: but also that you guys rich always talked about it,
- 54:38Speaker 6: how kind and Barry Boswick talked about it, how kind
- 54:40Speaker 6: you guys were to the you know, the previous gang
- 54:43Speaker 6: that came in to be on your show.
- 54:45Speaker 3: You know what I mean. He loved it there.
- 54:46Speaker 2: Well, dude, I mean from our point, dude, we're working
- 54:49Speaker 2: with stars.
- 54:50Speaker 1: Dude, you're working with freaking big time comedians who crushed
- 54:53Speaker 1: Go ahead, zachly Well.
- 54:54Speaker 2: I was going to say the exact same thing for us. Bill.
- 54:56Speaker 2: It was just like we we Donald and I as
- 54:58Speaker 2: anyone who listens to this, no, grew up on sitcoms,
- 55:01Speaker 2: grew up on loving TV comedy, and you're bringing Barry
- 55:04Speaker 2: Boswick and Richard Kind. I mean, these are guys who
- 55:07Speaker 2: we just always thought were so funny, and it wasn't like,
- 55:11Speaker 2: you know, it was a favorite we were just happy
- 55:13Speaker 2: to be, you know, bouncing the ball back and forth
- 55:15Speaker 2: with them to use. That's a sports analogy, Billy, because
- 55:18Speaker 2: you often bounce a ball back and forth when you're playing.
- 55:20Speaker 3: Sure, I mean it's the way you score in a
- 55:22Speaker 3: lot of different games.
- 55:23Speaker 2: Yes, you just got to get the ball in the hole.
- 55:25Speaker 2: Get the ball in the hole.
- 55:27Speaker 3: I have yahba.
- 55:29Speaker 6: Can I tell you a weird time thing that I
- 55:31Speaker 6: really liked and you guys will remember how often he
- 55:34Speaker 6: did this? At five sixteen, I remember telling Ken Jenkins
- 55:39Speaker 6: early and Scrubs that one of my favorite things that
- 55:42Speaker 6: he was great at doing. I think an actor had
- 55:45Speaker 6: told me once that it's very hard to fake laugh,
- 55:48Speaker 6: you know sometimes, you know, and Ken was so good
- 55:53Speaker 6: at doing a raucous, believable laugh that when he turned.
- 55:56Speaker 3: Away, it immediately stops, and you know how you know,
- 56:00Speaker 3: how fake it was.
- 56:01Speaker 6: Just My favorite one ever was when you guys changed
- 56:05Speaker 6: the sign of sacred heart to sacred fart in a
- 56:07Speaker 6: different episodes and Ken, by the way, and Ken Jenkins
- 56:11Speaker 6: is able to go, have you guys.
- 56:12Speaker 2: Seen the sign?
- 56:15Speaker 3: But seriously, but seriously, you shouldn't analyze And this was
- 56:22Speaker 3: one of the first ones.
- 56:23Speaker 6: That he did that because I said, Ken, my favorite
- 56:25Speaker 6: thing is when you rat laugh raucously and it's obviously fake,
- 56:28Speaker 6: and then you turn and lecture one of these guys
- 56:30Speaker 6: and he turns and immediately lectures Donald about that older
- 56:33Speaker 6: woman in there by the way.
- 56:35Speaker 1: I have a question. I have a sincere question about Ken.
- 56:39Speaker 1: When you when when you put him on the show,
- 56:41Speaker 1: were you aware of how funny he could be? No, man,
- 56:45Speaker 1: you had no right, okay, because he was Mary boss Ware.
- 56:49Speaker 6: Because when we hired Barry Bosswick, he was known as
- 56:52Speaker 6: a dramatic actor on Spin City, and I thought, Ken,
- 56:55Speaker 6: he has been on Home Front and in these great
- 56:57Speaker 6: giant John Sales movies and allays as a judge, always
- 57:01Speaker 6: as a Colonel Hiroshima.
- 57:03Speaker 3: He would explode your DVR and I go, what a
- 57:05Speaker 3: good bad guy.
- 57:06Speaker 6: And he'll just be an amazing dramatic actor and he'll say,
- 57:09Speaker 6: you know, ridiculous stuff, very straight like Barry did. But
- 57:13Speaker 6: then he was so funny and so clever and such
- 57:17Speaker 6: a good actor that he was the character that we
- 57:19Speaker 6: had to change the most because we were under utilizing him,
- 57:22Speaker 6: you know, we had him as a clichet, and then
- 57:24Speaker 6: he became more kind of rounded out.
- 57:26Speaker 1: We looked back and he looked back at the show
- 57:28Speaker 1: now and we you know, there are there are three
- 57:31Speaker 1: characters that really stick out for me, and maybe because
- 57:34Speaker 1: they were always in my peripheral and not necessarily people
- 57:38Speaker 1: who and I take that back. I worked with Judy
- 57:40Speaker 1: a lot, but Judy Ken and Sarah, Holy shit, dude,
- 57:47Speaker 1: I watched the show now and I'm blown away. Every
- 57:52Speaker 1: fucking episode Sarah, look, I would have. I I get
- 57:56Speaker 1: why freaking dudes would be like, so, what's up with
- 58:00Speaker 1: what's with Sarah? Chuck uh and called the set to
- 58:03Speaker 1: try and come by. Dude.
- 58:04Speaker 2: I hadn't noline we were making it.
- 58:07Speaker 1: But when we were making the show, I had no clue.
- 58:11Speaker 1: I had no I didn't pay attention to any of
- 58:14Speaker 1: this stuff. I didn't pay attention to what Ken was doing.
- 58:17Speaker 1: I'm in scenes with Judy and I'm not thinking about
- 58:20Speaker 1: Holy shit, this girl is fucking running circles around me
- 58:24Speaker 1: and I'm sitting here. I'm sitting there just trying to
- 58:26Speaker 1: freaking up. I'm gonna I'm gonna hit show. I'm doing
- 58:29Speaker 1: my thing, you know what I mean? Yeah, the three
- 58:32Speaker 1: of them, Oh my gosh. I had when I look
- 58:35Speaker 1: back at it now. I'm like, I really wish I
- 58:38Speaker 1: would have paid attention because there are so many great
- 58:40Speaker 1: lessons to be learned from them.
- 58:42Speaker 3: All you guys were assassins. Man, it's uh. You know
- 58:46Speaker 3: you're selling yourself shirt, Donald, No, I.
- 58:49Speaker 2: Am well aware of the I'm well aware about how
- 58:52Speaker 2: good I am.
- 58:53Speaker 1: Of what's happened. Because I've been on scrubs. I'm well
- 58:55Speaker 1: aware of you know what I mean, and and I've
- 58:58Speaker 1: learned how to you know, I've learned a lot from
- 59:00Speaker 1: doing the show. I think I could have learned a
- 59:02Speaker 1: little bit more if I would have just been a
- 59:05Speaker 1: less egotistic, less egotistical and paid attention to my cast.
- 59:11Speaker 1: Makes because those three, just like I paid attention to Johnny,
- 59:14Speaker 1: I paid attention to Zach, and I paid attention to myself,
- 59:17Speaker 1: but I didn't pay attention to those three.
- 59:20Speaker 2: I agree with Donald in that in that going back
- 59:23Speaker 2: twenty years later and watching this, you see things you
- 59:25Speaker 2: didn't see at all. And I and I totally agree
- 59:27Speaker 2: that you you know, we watched the episode, you know,
- 59:30Speaker 2: if you weren't in a scene with someone. I don't
- 59:32Speaker 2: know how many times you watched, Donald, but I probably
- 59:34Speaker 2: only watched the episode once when it when it aired.
- 59:36Speaker 2: When it aired, I would I would, you know, and
- 59:38Speaker 2: so you never really studied it. And now kind of
- 59:41Speaker 2: going back with this podcast being the purpose of it,
- 59:45Speaker 2: you see like, holy shit, look what Sarah's doing, Like well,
- 59:48Speaker 2: like she's really good. She's really good in this episode too.
- 59:51Speaker 6: I would even extend it to one of the coolest
- 59:54Speaker 6: things about doing a hospital show, as you guys have
- 59:56Speaker 6: made me look at it again and you set up
- 59:57Speaker 6: with rich kind was the opportunity for actors and actresses
- 1:00:01Speaker 6: to come in and be patients and know that they
- 1:00:03Speaker 6: had one scene that they were going to get to
- 1:00:05Speaker 6: try and knock something out of the park. And as
- 1:00:07Speaker 6: you guys have made me revisit this, the amount of
- 1:00:10Speaker 6: people that absolutely surprised me, do you know what I
- 1:00:14Speaker 6: mean in an individual scene when it's like, hey, you're
- 1:00:16Speaker 6: not really even part of the cast. But even that
- 1:00:19Speaker 6: kid that ended up getting a sitcom in the finale
- 1:00:22Speaker 6: when you tell him he had Huntington's disease, Zach. You
- 1:00:24Speaker 6: know his name is Josh something. You know, Josh Cook,
- 1:00:28Speaker 6: Josh I don't know, but yeah, there's just so so many.
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: Patients well furious, which means we'll know soon.
- 1:00:35Speaker 6: There's so many patients, you know, rich being one of them,
- 1:00:38Speaker 6: Like Donald pointed it out, when it's like, oh, funny, funny, funny.
- 1:00:41Speaker 6: And then when Richard Kaine goes, you can say what
- 1:00:44Speaker 6: you want, but I knew you were messing with me,
- 1:00:46Speaker 6: and you were you know, you know what I mean,
- 1:00:48Speaker 6: And it's so poignant. You're like, oh, that was one
- 1:00:51Speaker 6: of my favorite things about this show.
- 1:00:52Speaker 4: Man.
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: Well, one of my favorite point moments Bill is when
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: Rob says, dude, what were her boobs like?
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: Todd? I'm standing right here, goes.
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: Sorry, what were your boobs like.
- 1:01:03Speaker 4: You?
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: That he goes, sorry, what are your boobs like you?
- 1:01:07Speaker 6: Guys have to know that this episode, and I wanted
- 1:01:10Speaker 6: to give you some trivia, was the absolute most debate
- 1:01:15Speaker 6: we ever had about you know, how do we have
- 1:01:18Speaker 6: to define Todd as a real character in the writer's room?
- 1:01:22Speaker 3: Okay, And I'll tell you why, because he becomes a dog.
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: Yes, he's supposedly the best surgeon in the hospital, but
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: he chases an invisible ball.
- 1:01:34Speaker 6: And by the way, and it was already a problem
- 1:01:36Speaker 6: because he in your fantasy when he's fighting that older woman.
- 1:01:40Speaker 3: He then said, and as Todd is always horny.
- 1:01:44Speaker 6: That should end with them furiously making out, which is
- 1:01:46Speaker 6: also so it's it's to me in this episode, he's
- 1:01:50Speaker 6: going to be a sexual harassment pre me too. He's
- 1:01:55Speaker 6: going to have a intense sexual relationship in a fan
- 1:01:59Speaker 6: of see with an older woman, and then he's going
- 1:02:03Speaker 6: to be a competent surgeon that also fetches tennis balls.
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: But Bill, when he wrestles that woman, I laugh, I
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: was belly laughing. It was so fucking funny. Again, I'm assuming.
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: I'm assuming she was a senior citizens stunt woman because
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: they're really wrestling, like he was throwing her around.
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: Yes, I don't know. Well, yeah, because she does the
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: car smash and everything.
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: Yeah, she definitely, and then they made out. We should
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: ask Rob if there was tongue involved in that or.
- 1:02:36Speaker 4: This This is.
- 1:02:38Speaker 6: Rob.
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: It's time for another segment of Ask Rob Rob.
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: No talk to talk.
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: Oh, time for another episode of Todd Talk Dan. Some
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: little jingle that you come up with Todd Talk Rob.
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: What was it like making out with that senior citizen
- 1:02:54Speaker 2: and was their tongue involved? Was her breath?
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: Nice?
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: Tell us what that scene? Did you did you did
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: you sort of summon? Okay, the angst of wrestling her
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: into a kiss.
- 1:03:10Speaker 10: To wrestle the old lady. It felt good, natural, just
- 1:03:14Speaker 10: felt right. You haven't really lived until you wrestled the
- 1:03:18Speaker 10: guilt to the ground and gilded her lily, nice little
- 1:03:21Speaker 10: open mouth smooch there at the end to seal the deal.
- 1:03:25Speaker 10: Guilt five the Todd.
- 1:03:27Speaker 6: Of Pruz, Thank you, Rob, Thank you, and Rob thanks
- 1:03:31Speaker 6: for obviously preparing that, because it felt like you worked
- 1:03:34Speaker 6: on it, that you wrote it out ahead of time.
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: I loved it.
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: I know he writes out of answers, but maybe you
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: know he's doing his best.
- 1:03:43Speaker 3: I will tell you I'm jumping ahead. I'm jumping ahead.
- 1:03:46Speaker 6: But the argument started Zach with Originally the scene with
- 1:03:50Speaker 6: Todd uh is you had a tennis ball in your
- 1:03:56Speaker 6: hand anyways, and you threw it, and that's how you
- 1:04:00Speaker 6: rid of him, and then somebody it's not me. I
- 1:04:02Speaker 6: wish I could take credit for it. One of the
- 1:04:04Speaker 6: writers said, no, JD should pretend to have a ball
- 1:04:07Speaker 6: throw it, and that Todd goes, and then Todd brings
- 1:04:11Speaker 6: back a tennis ball and he.
- 1:04:12Speaker 3: Found somewhere.
- 1:04:14Speaker 6: Somewhere in the hospital, and that became there's a writer's
- 1:04:17Speaker 6: room that became like a two hour fight of going
- 1:04:20Speaker 6: it's too dumb that JD throws an imaginary ball, and
- 1:04:24Speaker 6: that writer was like, but that's what's so funny about dogs.
- 1:04:26Speaker 3: You can throw an imaginary go look for it. Well, yeah,
- 1:04:29Speaker 3: but he's a surgeon.
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: And then you call it back later in the in
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: the lobby, he goes and chases the ball again, right
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: to the janitor. You know what's funny. Rob does this
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: this subtle thing when I'm holding the ball, but he's
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: just kind of like bouncing like a dogwood.
- 1:04:52Speaker 5: Head.
- 1:04:53Speaker 3: Yeah, he's just ready for it.
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: Josh cook he's correct, Bill, Josh Cooking was the actor
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: there you.
- 1:04:58Speaker 3: Go so at seven oh four or this is really interesting.
- 1:05:01Speaker 3: And she was a Sarah Lancaster guest.
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: I know she was back. We were no one. No
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: one answered me, but I said, Sarah Lancaster was back.
- 1:05:08Speaker 4: Bill.
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: This is I have decided in the eight and a
- 1:05:11Speaker 2: half years that I was on this program, it's the
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: most unrealistic thing that you ever wrote, was that JD
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: can't seem to get it up to give a shop girl.
- 1:05:20Speaker 3: I feel it's the opposite of that.
- 1:05:23Speaker 6: I feel that you're just awkward around her because she's stunning,
- 1:05:27Speaker 6: and that you just can't you just can't put your
- 1:05:29Speaker 6: game on.
- 1:05:30Speaker 3: That's why.
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: That makes That makes a tiny bit of sense.
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: That makes a lot of sense. That makes way more
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: sense than you being like you want to do what
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: I don't think I could do that.
- 1:05:46Speaker 6: The sauce thing killed me, by the way, Zach, what
- 1:05:49Speaker 6: I think it was. I really I love Italian food.
- 1:05:53Speaker 3: I love so good with sauce.
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: Italian Italian people are so good at making sauce.
- 1:06:01Speaker 3: Was so bad on a date.
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: He has nothing to say on the day. That's what
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: he That's what he's got.
- 1:06:05Speaker 3: There's a good tribute thing with her. Here's a good tribute.
- 1:06:08Speaker 3: Oh I know, I like him.
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: Gift Shop Girl is very patient with this guy because
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: he's just he's boring conversation. He doesn't want to make
- 1:06:16Speaker 2: out she's really she's really poor. Poor gift shop girl.
- 1:06:20Speaker 3: Well she you know, by the way, this is how
- 1:06:22Speaker 3: TV works.
- 1:06:23Speaker 6: She was one of the only actor actresses that we
- 1:06:26Speaker 6: wanted in the Hallway and the finale that said yes
- 1:06:29Speaker 6: that then the network NBC, since we had left NBC, would.
- 1:06:32Speaker 3: Not allow her to come do that one line in
- 1:06:35Speaker 3: the hallway because she was a regular on Chuck.
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: Are you serious?
- 1:06:41Speaker 3: I'm serious.
- 1:06:42Speaker 6: They didn't allow her or Masioca to be in our finale, remember,
- 1:06:47Speaker 6: so Frank was because they were both one was Chuck
- 1:06:49Speaker 6: and one was Heroes and and and we had left
- 1:06:52Speaker 6: NBC and gone to a different network, so they're like, nope,
- 1:06:54Speaker 6: can't even be there to wave goodbye.
- 1:06:56Speaker 2: So I remember early on, well, when Jason Bateman was
- 1:07:01Speaker 2: on Arrested Development and I saw on Scrubs. We were
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: all at some fancy event, Bill and the presidents of
- 1:07:09Speaker 2: the networks were there, and we were all drinking heavily,
- 1:07:14Speaker 2: and well, not Jason, but you and I and I
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: think the presidents of the networks were and we were like,
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: let's just go negotiate this right now. And and I
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: think we like went to the Fox guy like can
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: Jason come on do a spot on Scrubs? And he
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: was like sure. And then we're like, okay, good, Let's
- 1:07:29Speaker 2: go to the NBC guy, Can I go do this
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: little spot on rest Development? They're like sure, They're like
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: all right, done, And that's.
- 1:07:35Speaker 3: Always asked when people have drinks in their hands.
- 1:07:37Speaker 2: That's we both ended up being able to do cameos
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: on each other's shows.
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: That can go but bill that could go bad. That
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: could go good, or it could go bad.
- 1:07:45Speaker 3: Yeah, oh yeah. You also sometimes get a very quick no.
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: Right no, or you can end up getting hammered and
- 1:07:51Speaker 2: nugging him, like and nugging the head of the network.
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:07:55Speaker 6: You know. The the most I ever got in trouble
- 1:07:58Speaker 6: for something like that was, you know, I think you
- 1:08:00Speaker 6: guys know, you're both actors. You're allowed to do like
- 1:08:02Speaker 6: three guest spots or something by contract on other shows,
- 1:08:05Speaker 6: and you always have to ask.
- 1:08:06Speaker 3: And Sarah had done a ton already on How I
- 1:08:08Speaker 3: Met Your.
- 1:08:08Speaker 6: Mother because she played Stella, this character that people thought
- 1:08:11Speaker 6: might be the mom. And Carter and Craig, who loved
- 1:08:13Speaker 6: Scrubs and who in fact probably would have been writing
- 1:08:16Speaker 6: on it, but they created their own show, you know,
- 1:08:19Speaker 6: right when you know we were kind of trying to
- 1:08:21Speaker 6: bring them over, called up and said, hey, can Sarah
- 1:08:24Speaker 6: come back on the show and do a bunch of episodes?
- 1:08:27Speaker 6: And I'm like, contractually, I don't think she could be
- 1:08:29Speaker 6: allowed to do it. They're like, well, we've written them
- 1:08:31Speaker 6: and we got to do it. What's the best angle?
- 1:08:33Speaker 6: And I said, the best angle is to say I
- 1:08:36Speaker 6: said yes, but to tell no one and just have
- 1:08:39Speaker 6: her do them. Yes, And she when she went and
- 1:08:44Speaker 6: did them, and we got a call kind of in
- 1:08:45Speaker 6: the middle of it, you know that, I was like, oh, yeah,
- 1:08:48Speaker 6: I didn't really you know, I had to play dumb
- 1:08:49Speaker 6: and go like guy said, it was fine because it
- 1:08:50Speaker 6: didn't upset our production schedule and blah blah blah.
- 1:08:53Speaker 3: But she wouldn't have been allowed otherwise.
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: Yeah, but that was a different that was a different network,
- 1:08:57Speaker 2: right right.
- 1:08:58Speaker 6: How I met your mother's on CBS and she ended
- 1:09:01Speaker 6: up doing like you're allowed to do three on a show,
- 1:09:03Speaker 6: but you're not allowed to be a recurt like it.
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: When she was making out with Radner, I felt it
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: just didn't feel right to me. We Josh and I
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: look a little bit alike, and I just felt like
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: her character was cheating on JD.
- 1:09:15Speaker 3: He's Shazam now, you know, he's he got to be
- 1:09:17Speaker 3: a superhero. He should No, no, no, that's that's no,
- 1:09:21Speaker 3: that's zach Levy.
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: That's Zachary Levi.
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: Oh yeah, exactly. I mentioned jo were talking about girl
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: hooked up with exactly Sarah Chalk hooked up with Josh Radner,
- 1:09:31Speaker 2: whose character I don't even know his name because I
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: never saw how I met your mother? Did you you
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: watched it? Donald?
- 1:09:37Speaker 4: No, I do it.
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: I don't watch TV like that.
- 1:09:39Speaker 3: Okay, Oh A lot on it all right?
- 1:09:43Speaker 6: Eleven twenty nine, Zach, eleven twenty nine is your is
- 1:09:46Speaker 6: also in your top three pratfalls because you mentioned her
- 1:09:48Speaker 6: as sliding over.
- 1:09:50Speaker 3: My favorite thing about that, can I tell you?
- 1:09:52Speaker 6: Is so we thought you could do it anyways, but
- 1:09:55Speaker 6: you did it once in rehearsal and it was good
- 1:09:57Speaker 6: looking but a little slower.
- 1:09:59Speaker 3: And I don't know if you're remember this, uh the hood,
- 1:10:02Speaker 3: I said, I said, what I think I'd like to
- 1:10:04Speaker 3: do is wax the hood. Yeah, And they're like and
- 1:10:07Speaker 3: they're like that, you know that could be that could
- 1:10:09Speaker 3: really hurt Zach. And I'm feeling good about waxing the hood.
- 1:10:15Speaker 2: I remember that. I remember I did it. I don't
- 1:10:17Speaker 2: even know if it was written, but you and I
- 1:10:18Speaker 2: came up with it as a funny thing, like in rehearsal,
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: I think, And then you were like, you know, it'd
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: be really funny if we if we wax the hood.
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: And I think the stunt guys are like, yeah, but dude,
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: he can go flying and.
- 1:10:30Speaker 3: Go like twenty feet.
- 1:10:30Speaker 2: Yeah, I feel good about it.
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: I'm gonna tell you something right now, that moment reminds
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: me of like, you know, your favorite movie, Like in
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: your favorite movies at the end of the movie the
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: hero runs and jumps over the door and jumps into
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: the car and stuff like that, And it really looked
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: like it was gonna be one of those moments. The
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: only problem with it was was the pad was just
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: a little too high, kind of see you see him bounce? Yeah,
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: you see you bounce.
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: Well, not if you're not looking for it. I mean,
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: I cannot I can't do that. I couldn't have done
- 1:11:04Speaker 2: that without a pad. Dude in my head, in.
- 1:11:07Speaker 3: My head, and it would have been great, So we
- 1:11:09Speaker 3: would have used it.
- 1:11:09Speaker 6: There was a small chance that he was gonna with
- 1:11:12Speaker 6: the wax overshoot the pad.
- 1:11:17Speaker 3: And just.
- 1:11:20Speaker 2: Because I yell, I go Telly ho. What's so funny
- 1:11:25Speaker 2: about it is a I'm trying to make Elliott jealous
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: and I'm trying to look good for give shop girl,
- 1:11:31Speaker 2: and I just humiliate myself in front of both. I
- 1:11:34Speaker 2: love that. It's so funny.
- 1:11:35Speaker 3: It made me so happy.
- 1:11:37Speaker 6: You guys mentioned as Oh, by the way, there's one
- 1:11:40Speaker 6: of our best cowboy switches at the twelve minute mark
- 1:11:43Speaker 6: when Kelso stuntman rolls out of the car.
- 1:11:46Speaker 2: Yeah, you're going to fast, You're going to fast.
- 1:11:48Speaker 3: I'm sorry, I got excited. I did a lot of
- 1:11:50Speaker 3: time checks on this one.
- 1:11:52Speaker 2: To remind the audience what a cowboy switches. It's when
- 1:11:55Speaker 2: we creatively, without cutting the camera, switch between the stuntman
- 1:11:59Speaker 2: and the real So if you look at that car stunt,
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: the stuntman comes rolling out of a moving car and
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: he comes far enough towards the camera that he goes
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: off screen, and then where Ken was crouching and able
- 1:12:10Speaker 2: to pop right up and it seamlessly looks like Ken
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: did the stunt, and that was really good. I don't
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: know if that was Chris Kocher or well, this is
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: Chris Kotcher's first episode. He directed, and he did a
- 1:12:20Speaker 2: really good job.
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: Chris.
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: He's I wanted to mention I got goosebumps when Johnny
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: c tells Richard Kine that he's sick. I thought that
- 1:12:31Speaker 2: was so powerful and he kind of has to eat
- 1:12:33Speaker 2: crow and go, holy shit, look at this chart. You're sick.
- 1:12:38Speaker 6: And Richard kin with a really interesting moment that you
- 1:12:40Speaker 6: can tell he probably secretly didn't want to be sick.
- 1:12:43Speaker 6: He likes you know, he likes the attention of being
- 1:12:46Speaker 6: a hypochondrict, but he's never looks forward to being sick.
- 1:12:49Speaker 3: You know. Yeah, I really like that.
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: Yeah, that was to watch Richard is a lot of
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: fun because you don't know when it's coming. You really
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: really don't know when it's coming. Like on the show,
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: we've gotten to the point where we're gonna you know,
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: there's a setup coming. You know, something's gonna happen. And
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: when it happens, Richard even plays it off like oh okay,
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: and then it sinks in and it hurts and he's like,
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: oh shit, I'm a I'm sick. Yeah, and you know,
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: his his fake outs, his fake outs in the show
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: are great, Like later on he'll come back and he
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: and I have like two episodes I think together.
- 1:13:31Speaker 3: Yeah. And I love that courtroom scene.
- 1:13:34Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, I mean, you know the scene in
- 1:13:36Speaker 6: the around the table where Sam Lloyd Rip you know,
- 1:13:39Speaker 6: has what I think is the greatest pratfall. Even kudos
- 1:13:42Speaker 6: to Zach and Scrubs history on that one. That one's
- 1:13:44Speaker 6: pretty amazing.
- 1:13:45Speaker 2: What's that one?
- 1:13:46Speaker 6: That's one's when Sam Lloyd is so hard to do
- 1:13:49Speaker 6: is arguing that Joanna Marguis and Donald and he gets
- 1:13:52Speaker 6: very sweaty, and he said, I said, you have to
- 1:13:55Speaker 6: figure out a way to knock yourself out. And Sam said,
- 1:13:59Speaker 6: my hand sweat is gonna make me slip on the
- 1:14:01Speaker 6: table and I'm gonna slam the side of my face
- 1:14:03Speaker 6: into this table and then fall off screen.
- 1:14:06Speaker 3: And he there was no pad. He just did it.
- 1:14:08Speaker 3: It was It's fantastic.
- 1:14:09Speaker 2: He rushed that. I assumed that there was some some
- 1:14:12Speaker 2: trick to that. I didn't know he did.
- 1:14:14Speaker 6: There is no trick except we said you have to
- 1:14:17Speaker 6: do it hard enough that when we had the sound effect,
- 1:14:19Speaker 6: it looks painful.
- 1:14:20Speaker 3: And he's like, I got this.
- 1:14:25Speaker 2: Hey, We're gonna go to a quick break and when
- 1:14:27Speaker 2: we come back, we will have a guest and I
- 1:14:29Speaker 2: will have a genius question.
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: We'll be right back, and our guest is here giving
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: up for Anthony, who wore a suit.
- 1:14:43Speaker 3: Makes me happy.
- 1:14:45Speaker 2: There's applause, Damn thunders all. Nice.
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: Hey, I was I thought that Oprah didn't do the
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: Oprah voice anymore, and therefore I thought it was funny
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: that I was bringing the Oprah Winfrey Show voice back.
- 1:14:59Speaker 2: When did you just she does it? When did you
- 1:15:01Speaker 2: decide to not do the Oprah voice? What are you
- 1:15:03Speaker 2: talking about?
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: No, I'm not saying I'm not.
- 1:15:05Speaker 4: No.
- 1:15:05Speaker 3: He thought he was paying homage to something that's over.
- 1:15:08Speaker 3: But she still does she still does it.
- 1:15:10Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I haven't. Where have you heard her? Oprah?
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: So I watched CBS this morning in the morning, I
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: watched CBS in the morning and Gail King's on it,
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: and Gail King and Oprah are best friends and they
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: just had a book club. Think like they still continue
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: some of the things that Oprah did on her show.
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: And Oprah had a book club segment on CBS this
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: morning and she did it and I was like, holy shit,
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: I sound like Oprah. So, ladies and gentlemen, give it
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: up for any.
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: Anthony. How are you?
- 1:15:42Speaker 3: Welk you so much.
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: Welcome to Fake Doctor's Real Friends.
- 1:15:45Speaker 4: Thank you, Zach. It's such an honor to be on.
- 1:15:47Speaker 4: We really appreciate you, know, you having us on, and
- 1:15:50Speaker 4: it's such a great opportunity.
- 1:15:52Speaker 2: Are you saying we are you? Is it a royal
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: we are you?
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: Are you?
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: Are you royal?
- 1:15:56Speaker 4: No? No, my apologies, my apologies. My wife is up
- 1:16:00Speaker 4: stairs and you know, of course I share everything with her,
- 1:16:02Speaker 4: so you should.
- 1:16:05Speaker 2: They don't, they don't know your story, so any was exciting.
- 1:16:09Speaker 4: Thank you, thank you, and it's it's something that's great
- 1:16:13Speaker 4: in part other ways it's it's not. But you know,
- 1:16:17Speaker 4: part of the reason we reached out was we really
- 1:16:21Speaker 4: loved how authentic Scrubs was and how you made all
- 1:16:25Speaker 4: of the characters you know, your own, each of you
- 1:16:28Speaker 4: did in such a great way that you know, last year,
- 1:16:33Speaker 4: my wife and I actually lost a little girl a
- 1:16:36Speaker 4: couple of weeks before she was due, and we had
- 1:16:40Speaker 4: a tremendous experience with the doctors and nurses that were
- 1:16:46Speaker 4: at the hospital and helped us through that whole process
- 1:16:50Speaker 4: that we started, you know, working on a project and
- 1:16:54Speaker 4: actually are are working on what's called a bereavement room
- 1:16:58Speaker 4: right now with the hospital that we lost our little
- 1:17:01Speaker 4: girl in in the Cleveland, Ohio area. And so from
- 1:17:05Speaker 4: that respect, you know, when I rewatched all of Scrubs,
- 1:17:09Speaker 4: I went through it in about a week and a
- 1:17:11Speaker 4: half earlier this year, it just made me think about how,
- 1:17:15Speaker 4: you know, how much we appreciated all that the doctors did,
- 1:17:19Speaker 4: and again that authenticity that you all brought to all
- 1:17:23Speaker 4: of the show, and you know we are. We're thankful
- 1:17:27Speaker 4: for that. We really appreciate being able to come on
- 1:17:31Speaker 4: to the show here today, if it's okay to plug
- 1:17:35Speaker 4: you know, the fundraiser that we're working on with Cleveland
- 1:17:38Speaker 4: Clinic to kind of do this initial room.
- 1:17:41Speaker 2: Yeah, tell us. Wow, I think you caught us all speechless.
- 1:17:46Speaker 2: We're so sorry for your loss, but please tell us
- 1:17:50Speaker 2: more about it, because I think everyone's interested to know
- 1:17:55Speaker 2: what you mean by I think I know, but just
- 1:17:57Speaker 2: tell everyone what the cause is and what a breavement
- 1:17:59Speaker 2: room is.
- 1:18:01Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, no, thank you, thank you. So the cause
- 1:18:05Speaker 4: is for parents who have what we call still births,
- 1:18:09Speaker 4: which is generally anybody who loses a child after twenty weeks.
- 1:18:13Speaker 4: But in any case, anybody who loses a child is
- 1:18:16Speaker 4: obviously a tough thing, or any family member, which is
- 1:18:20Speaker 4: why again, we've appreciated everything, and I know I keep
- 1:18:23Speaker 4: saying we, but my wife and I have appreciated listening
- 1:18:27Speaker 4: to this show and how much you've shown caring for
- 1:18:29Speaker 4: the essential workers, all the people out there who are
- 1:18:33Speaker 4: trying to help support each other in this tough time.
- 1:18:37Speaker 4: But for our bereavement room specifically, it's meant for people
- 1:18:41Speaker 4: who go through a similar loss to our own, where
- 1:18:44Speaker 4: it creates a home like space for parents. So that way,
- 1:18:49Speaker 4: for the little time that they get to hold their
- 1:18:51Speaker 4: little ones, they get to make it feel a little
- 1:18:54Speaker 4: bit more like home and have bonding moments that just
- 1:18:57Speaker 4: get to I think, emphasize even more or the great
- 1:19:00Speaker 4: care that they get from the doctors and the nurses
- 1:19:03Speaker 4: who help them go through that. And so our goal
- 1:19:06Speaker 4: is to create that space in the hospital and do
- 1:19:10Speaker 4: it through a website called give dot CCF dot org backslash.
- 1:19:16Speaker 4: The Butterfly Suite and the Butterfly Sweet is the concept
- 1:19:20Speaker 4: that my wife and I came up with that we're
- 1:19:21Speaker 4: hoping starts at this hospital and can expand nationwide because
- 1:19:26Speaker 4: it's not something that really gets too too much press
- 1:19:30Speaker 4: or notice when people lose children, but it is something
- 1:19:34Speaker 4: that we know, you know, happens more often than anybody
- 1:19:39Speaker 4: cares to really recognize.
- 1:19:41Speaker 2: So Anthony, my understand because I've never heard this before.
- 1:19:47Speaker 2: When parents have a stillborn are they are they usually
- 1:19:51Speaker 2: given the opportunity to spend some time with the baby.
- 1:19:56Speaker 4: It's actually changed a lot in the last few years, thankfully.
- 1:20:00Speaker 4: Used to be that no, most of the time a
- 1:20:03Speaker 4: mother and father would never even hold or get to
- 1:20:05Speaker 4: know their child. It would just kind of be taken
- 1:20:08Speaker 4: out of the room and you know, go through whatever
- 1:20:12Speaker 4: burial a parents wanted to do. But now, thankfully they
- 1:20:17Speaker 4: have something called cocots which help keep the child cool
- 1:20:21Speaker 4: and keep off some of that process that happens after
- 1:20:25Speaker 4: you pass. And in our case, we spent about eight
- 1:20:28Speaker 4: or ten hours with our daughter before we kind of
- 1:20:32Speaker 4: gave her over, and we were very thankful for that.
- 1:20:35Speaker 4: We even got family photos and other things that organizations
- 1:20:39Speaker 4: are now coming out and helping out with a lot
- 1:20:42Speaker 4: of that stuff, where a few years ago even you
- 1:20:45Speaker 4: might not have spent any time with your child.
- 1:20:48Speaker 2: Wow, was that I'm sorry, I'm just I'm so moved
- 1:20:52Speaker 2: by this. I've got tears in my eyes. I don't
- 1:20:55Speaker 2: even know what to say, But I was that something
- 1:20:57Speaker 2: that you and your wife had to quickly discuss if
- 1:21:02Speaker 2: you wanted to do that. I imagine it would be
- 1:21:05Speaker 2: hard for some people. They would say, I don't know
- 1:21:07Speaker 2: if I could if I could handle that. I mean,
- 1:21:10Speaker 2: as I'm listening to I'm thinking, like, gosh, would I
- 1:21:12Speaker 2: be able to handle that?
- 1:21:15Speaker 4: Yeah, it's definitely a whirlwind, but Thankfully we were able
- 1:21:19Speaker 4: to have some time through the delivery process. It still
- 1:21:25Speaker 4: took us about a day to have our daughter, that
- 1:21:27Speaker 4: we were able to think through some of those things.
- 1:21:30Speaker 4: And the nurses that's where I say we had terrific
- 1:21:33Speaker 4: care where the original resident that we had, he was
- 1:21:38Speaker 4: the head resident, but he, you know, came in asked
- 1:21:43Speaker 4: us our daughter's name and would constantly repeat her name
- 1:21:47Speaker 4: anytime we were talking about delivering her. The nurses helped
- 1:21:50Speaker 4: us through that whole process that they asked us, you know,
- 1:21:53Speaker 4: do you want to do this or do you not?
- 1:21:55Speaker 4: And they kind of helped give us guidance and get
- 1:21:58Speaker 4: us a lot of momento and other things that we
- 1:22:01Speaker 4: will cherish for the rest of our lives. So it
- 1:22:04Speaker 4: is an interesting item that, yes, it happens very quickly,
- 1:22:09Speaker 4: but through the care and support of those people that
- 1:22:13Speaker 4: we've mentioned, they absolutely helped us do that as best
- 1:22:18Speaker 4: as we could.
- 1:22:20Speaker 3: Anthony man, I, I'm bill nice to meet you.
- 1:22:24Speaker 6: How you doing look the coolest thing and why I
- 1:22:28Speaker 6: find you so inspiring is the main reason that we
- 1:22:32Speaker 6: wanted to do this show was because I'm much older
- 1:22:36Speaker 6: than you. Those of you that can't see Anthony is
- 1:22:37Speaker 6: a very young, handsome man. It's annoying, and that's good.
- 1:22:42Speaker 3: He looks sharp.
- 1:22:43Speaker 4: But the.
- 1:22:46Speaker 6: Is that, you know, when I was a kid, used
- 1:22:48Speaker 6: to have a cliche that doctors and nurses, you know,
- 1:22:52Speaker 6: your parents would want you to be a doctor to
- 1:22:54Speaker 6: be rich because you can golf all the time and
- 1:22:55Speaker 6: make tons of money.
- 1:22:57Speaker 3: And when we started this show, it wasn't about being
- 1:22:59Speaker 3: a doctor to be rich anymore.
- 1:23:01Speaker 6: It was too If you went into that industry, being
- 1:23:04Speaker 6: a nurse or a doctor is because you wanted to
- 1:23:06Speaker 6: be of service to people, you know. And one of
- 1:23:08Speaker 6: the things I'm witnessing right now that I find inspiring
- 1:23:10Speaker 6: in a very cynical time are I don't begrudge anybody
- 1:23:15Speaker 6: that's feeling beaten down right now or that is very
- 1:23:19Speaker 6: close to feeling like they should give up.
- 1:23:21Speaker 3: But what's amazing is when you meet.
- 1:23:23Speaker 6: Someone like you that goes through something with your wife
- 1:23:26Speaker 6: and then decides to be of service to others, you know.
- 1:23:30Speaker 6: And I find that very inspiring amongst people, and specifically
- 1:23:36Speaker 6: young people like yourself. It gives me optimism in ways
- 1:23:39Speaker 6: that I don't otherwise always have it.
- 1:23:41Speaker 3: So thanks man, it's very very cool.
- 1:23:42Speaker 6: Make sure you mentioned the website again at the end,
- 1:23:45Speaker 6: because it's a tough one to remember.
- 1:23:46Speaker 2: We will and Joelle will put it on our page
- 1:23:50Speaker 2: so people can click on it.
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: I'm so sorry, man, you just caught me so off guard.
- 1:23:56Speaker 4: Man, No, I apologize. You guys were having a good
- 1:23:59Speaker 4: time and I no, no, no, it's important.
- 1:24:04Speaker 2: It's important. It's sobering.
- 1:24:05Speaker 5: Like Donald said, positive you some positive news, Anthony, do
- 1:24:10Speaker 5: you want to get well one means of news? How
- 1:24:13Speaker 5: close are you to your goal for the briefment room.
- 1:24:16Speaker 4: Well, we're very close. So we were aiming to raise
- 1:24:18Speaker 4: about twenty five thousand dollars and we're a little over
- 1:24:21Speaker 4: twenty one thousand raised already, and so we're very thankful
- 1:24:26Speaker 4: for all the support that people have provided.
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: As it is, well, let's get it over there.
- 1:24:30Speaker 2: I think we'll get it over that. Wa Anthony, will
- 1:24:32Speaker 2: you be turning? I assume the hospital has said yes
- 1:24:37Speaker 2: to this and there's a room for it, but it's
- 1:24:39Speaker 2: going to cost roughly that to convert the room. Is
- 1:24:42Speaker 2: that what it is?
- 1:24:43Speaker 4: Yeah? So it's that plus what we're aiming to do
- 1:24:46Speaker 4: is getting like a full sized bed versus kind of
- 1:24:49Speaker 4: a twin sized hospital bed in there, so that way,
- 1:24:52Speaker 4: you know, mom and dad can sleep together, or mom
- 1:24:55Speaker 4: and mom, how dad and dad. However it is is
- 1:24:58Speaker 4: set up. But you know in a day, having a
- 1:25:01Speaker 4: music player, a crib, certain types of things that again
- 1:25:04Speaker 4: make it feel like home. And yes, there is a
- 1:25:07Speaker 4: space already at the hospital that parents will be able
- 1:25:11Speaker 4: they'll be able to convert right now and utilize because
- 1:25:15Speaker 4: we talked longer term about building a space. But this
- 1:25:18Speaker 4: is maybe a good happy medium for the time being.
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: All Right, well, let's let's give that website another shout
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: out again.
- 1:25:27Speaker 4: Yeah, thank you, thank you. It's give dot c c
- 1:25:30Speaker 4: F dot org backslash the butterfly. Sweet.
- 1:25:35Speaker 5: Okay, you have one last piece of information, but I
- 1:25:37Speaker 5: don't know if you want us to share to all
- 1:25:38Speaker 5: of our listeners or Okay.
- 1:25:41Speaker 4: Are thankful that my wife and I are expecting again
- 1:25:46Speaker 4: and we'll.
- 1:25:48Speaker 2: Wait when do you do towards the end of October?
- 1:25:53Speaker 3: That's awesome.
- 1:25:54Speaker 2: Congratulations dude.
- 1:25:56Speaker 3: It will not change your life at all. I promise
- 1:25:59Speaker 3: it's the exact same for you guys as a couple.
- 1:26:03Speaker 3: It's gonna be no difference.
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: You know how you guys go all the time and
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: cod But to know how you guys have all of
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: this time to yourself and stuff like that. It'll stay
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: that way.
- 1:26:13Speaker 2: No, congratulations, Anthony rests. That's a happy ending. And I
- 1:26:21Speaker 2: just want to say, I'm so moved by people like
- 1:26:24Speaker 2: you and who go through something like this and then
- 1:26:29Speaker 2: turn around and go, how can I make a difference
- 1:26:32Speaker 2: for the next person who has to do this. I
- 1:26:35Speaker 2: just think it's heroic of you to go, Okay, this happened,
- 1:26:39Speaker 2: how can we make a difference for the next couple.
- 1:26:42Speaker 2: I just think that that's that's very moving to me,
- 1:26:44Speaker 2: and I just want to give you accolades for that.
- 1:26:48Speaker 4: And then we know we're not the only ones for sure,
- 1:26:52Speaker 4: and there's been so many people who have helped support
- 1:26:54Speaker 4: us because they've gone through the experience before that we
- 1:26:58Speaker 4: feel it's just that we try to do the same.
- 1:27:00Speaker 4: And again, thank you all for bringing it together a
- 1:27:04Speaker 4: show like you did that gave authenticity that I've heard
- 1:27:08Speaker 4: so many stories of how many people you've inspired to
- 1:27:11Speaker 4: become doctors that it's it's tremendous as well, So thank
- 1:27:16Speaker 4: you all.
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: Anti.
- 1:27:18Speaker 6: I also I want to tell you I feel a
- 1:27:20Speaker 6: connection to you because I can tell by the say
- 1:27:24Speaker 6: the way that you said, we all the time that
- 1:27:25Speaker 6: you're also like me, you're a little afraid of your
- 1:27:27Speaker 6: wife and you would get in massive trouble if you didn't.
- 1:27:33Speaker 6: So tell me what's her Tell me again, what's her name?
- 1:27:35Speaker 3: Just so we remember.
- 1:27:36Speaker 4: Yeah, her name is Megan, and uh, you know we
- 1:27:40Speaker 4: we are a partnership, so we try to do everything together.
- 1:27:43Speaker 4: But you're right, there's always a little bit of fear. Bill, Bill,
- 1:27:46Speaker 4: you might want to try that out.
- 1:27:47Speaker 2: Bill, you might want to try out being a partnership.
- 1:27:52Speaker 3: I have too much fear.
- 1:27:54Speaker 2: At the Both of these men are terrified of their wife.
- 1:27:59Speaker 3: I have a big blanket of fear.
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: Here keeps you married forever?
- 1:28:03Speaker 2: To say, that's a good tea shirt for the show.
- 1:28:07Speaker 6: We have a partnership, like the way that like a
- 1:28:11Speaker 6: police officer and whoever was.
- 1:28:13Speaker 3: In jail have a partnership, you know what I mean,
- 1:28:15Speaker 3: like the kind joking. I think that's awesome. Man. What
- 1:28:18Speaker 3: do you guys do out there?
- 1:28:19Speaker 4: Anthony?
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: What do you in?
- 1:28:19Speaker 3: What do you and Meghan do?
- 1:28:21Speaker 4: So? I'm a financial advisor and I work with people
- 1:28:25Speaker 4: helping them, you know, try to get to secure retirement.
- 1:28:27Speaker 4: And my wife actually runs a non for profit modern
- 1:28:30Speaker 4: dance company here in the Cleveland area.
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: That's what's Meghan got rhythm, y'all.
- 1:28:38Speaker 3: God, by the way, I need to know right now,
- 1:28:42Speaker 3: are you in Maya, Hell Antony?
- 1:28:44Speaker 6: Did you guys have to do a first dance at
- 1:28:46Speaker 6: your wedding that Megan just slaid it, and that you
- 1:28:48Speaker 6: had to take lessons for weeks in advance just to
- 1:28:50Speaker 6: be passable.
- 1:28:52Speaker 4: Luckily she did not want to be over zealous like that.
- 1:28:55Speaker 4: Oh good, chill, you know, everything was good that way.
- 1:29:00Speaker 4: But I did in college. We went to college together.
- 1:29:03Speaker 4: Actually took her ballet class for one of the semesters
- 1:29:05Speaker 4: that we were in there. Fun experience is.
- 1:29:07Speaker 6: That I was about to say, that's very smooth if
- 1:29:10Speaker 6: that's how you met.
- 1:29:11Speaker 4: No, we actually met in high school.
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: Oh man, follow college or she followed you.
- 1:29:18Speaker 4: Uh, it's more I probably followed her.
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, that we had this conversation earlier. We had
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: this conversation about this episode. You know, we talk about
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: it all the time. Guys get heavily invested. Girls are
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: the ones that are like, I'm going to college and
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: I'm going to go do my thing. Maybe I'll see
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: you when I get back. Yeah, you were like, oh no, no, no, no,
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: I can't wait till you get back. I'm going to
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: college with you.
- 1:29:42Speaker 2: You're right on there, Donald, I don't even feel like
- 1:29:46Speaker 2: we should. I don't know if you even have a question.
- 1:29:50Speaker 2: I don't know. I'm tongue tied to Anthony. Do you
- 1:29:52Speaker 2: have a question?
- 1:29:53Speaker 4: You're good, You're good.
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: I did.
- 1:29:54Speaker 4: I had a couple of them. If you guys wouldn't
- 1:29:57Speaker 4: mind go out.
- 1:29:59Speaker 2: The creator of the whole dark thing here, Bill Laurence.
- 1:30:01Speaker 2: So go ahead.
- 1:30:02Speaker 4: Well, the first one I think was similar to how
- 1:30:05Speaker 4: our experience went, where we were so thankful for the
- 1:30:09Speaker 4: hospital staff, and that really I think transformed how we
- 1:30:13Speaker 4: felt about the whole experience. Of course, we still have
- 1:30:15Speaker 4: a lot of feelings, and we just wondered though if
- 1:30:18Speaker 4: each of you maybe had any similar types of experiences
- 1:30:22Speaker 4: that you felt or went through and wanted to share.
- 1:30:28Speaker 3: Uh, you guys, go go first to West you want me,
- 1:30:31Speaker 3: I guess the real one, you guys.
- 1:30:32Speaker 2: Ch I'll go first. I've had a lot of death
- 1:30:35Speaker 2: in my life over the last couple of years. I
- 1:30:39Speaker 2: lost my sister and my father, and and then of
- 1:30:42Speaker 2: course just recently a Nick Cordero. Although because of COVID
- 1:30:46Speaker 2: I wasn't really allowed to be a part of the
- 1:30:48Speaker 2: hospital experience of losing Nick at all, and I just
- 1:30:54Speaker 2: I mean, I could go on for a whole podcast
- 1:30:56Speaker 2: about my feelings about the staff of both in both instances,
- 1:31:01Speaker 2: but I'll just say that I, until I had these experiences,
- 1:31:08Speaker 2: I didn't really realize the difference that a great doctor
- 1:31:13Speaker 2: and a great nurse make. And it's funny to say
- 1:31:15Speaker 2: that because we did a TV show about it for
- 1:31:17Speaker 2: nine years, But until you until you have the experience
- 1:31:21Speaker 2: where a nurse does a subtle thing that makes my
- 1:31:24Speaker 2: dad smile or or or or or puts up with
- 1:31:30Speaker 2: him when he's complaining and then gives me a little
- 1:31:32Speaker 2: bit of a sweet smile. It just makes me still
- 1:31:36Speaker 2: this day when I put my hands on my heart,
- 1:31:39Speaker 2: and I'm blessed that I didn't have that experience before Scrubs,
- 1:31:43Speaker 2: but it would have informed it more because I saw
- 1:31:45Speaker 2: firsthand the difference that that love coming from these people makes.
- 1:31:50Speaker 2: And like what like Bill said that this used to
- 1:31:52Speaker 2: be huge money making jobs, they're not anymore. People aren't
- 1:31:56Speaker 2: doing this for Doe anymore. They're doing it out of
- 1:31:58Speaker 2: service and and of the desire to help people. So yeah,
- 1:32:04Speaker 2: I really, I really and and and so invested. One
- 1:32:07Speaker 2: thing I do know about Nick's case is that Amanda
- 1:32:09Speaker 2: told me that when the doctor when Nick finally passed,
- 1:32:13Speaker 2: his doctor was crying alongside her. That's how invested he
- 1:32:17Speaker 2: was in in in in his well being. And uh so, yeah,
- 1:32:23Speaker 2: those those those in short, those are my my recent experiences.
- 1:32:26Speaker 2: And I'm I'm very very moved by by your story
- 1:32:32Speaker 2: and and I'm I'm just so happy that there are
- 1:32:35Speaker 2: people out there that want to that want to do
- 1:32:36Speaker 2: this with their lives.
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, knowing that there are people out there,
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: you know, Zach's right, You know, this was a job.
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: Being a doctor was a job that if you stayed
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: the course and got into private practice, it would make
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: you a lot of money. And knowing that people are
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: still doctors and aren't making money, like when I go
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: to my pediatrician and take my kids to there pediatrician
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: and stuff like that, and knowing that he's not making
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: a lot of money off of us and everything like that,
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: but he cares for my kids so much. It really
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: puts me at ease, you know what I mean. The
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: fact that I can call him whenever I want to
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: and he'll pick up the phone it really puts me
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: at ease and to all everyone in the medical field,
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: that's one thing that's so important. I know that you
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: you know, I know that they deal with traumatic things
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: often and they put up a barrier and a shield
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: to keep them from catching feelings. But to find a
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: doctor like Zach was talking about, who is so invested,
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: it's heartwarming. It's really important. And you know, I've been
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: very lucky in my life to meet people who genuinely
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: cared about myself and my family in the medical field
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: and so field, and so because of that, yeah, I mean,
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: that's my experience.
- 1:33:55Speaker 6: I'll go last Anthony, and I'm always tempted to have
- 1:34:00Speaker 6: the real JD listened to this because he was my
- 1:34:04Speaker 6: best buddy in college.
- 1:34:06Speaker 3: He was a screw up.
- 1:34:07Speaker 6: We drank beers together, and when he decided to do this.
- 1:34:10Speaker 6: He's a much better person than I am. And I'm
- 1:34:13Speaker 6: not saying I'm a bad person, but like a lot
- 1:34:14Speaker 6: of young men, I started pretty shallow. And it's so
- 1:34:16Speaker 6: important to sab someone in your life that is trying
- 1:34:20Speaker 6: to do more important shit. Whether it's being a doctor
- 1:34:23Speaker 6: or a nurse or a teacher, you know, something of
- 1:34:25Speaker 6: service and it meant so much to me that these
- 1:34:29Speaker 6: guys got to know him. And I always remember that
- 1:34:32Speaker 6: when we started this. You know, a guy that I
- 1:34:35Speaker 6: never saw as you know, having the level of depth
- 1:34:39Speaker 6: and integrity and the big heart that he had. He
- 1:34:43Speaker 6: gave us all his real stories. If you watch the
- 1:34:45Speaker 6: pilot of Scrubs, he hid in the closet with a
- 1:34:49Speaker 6: female intern because he didn't want to be the first
- 1:34:51Speaker 6: one into a code. He married another physician named Dolly Klock,
- 1:34:56Speaker 6: who you know he did his residency with.
- 1:35:00Speaker 3: He gave it.
- 1:35:00Speaker 6: He accidentally hit somebody with a needle that caused a
- 1:35:04Speaker 6: whole two big so that it kept leaking out and
- 1:35:06Speaker 6: squirting out, like when Donald put gum on the guy.
- 1:35:09Speaker 3: And he did all those things, and he was always
- 1:35:12Speaker 3: around the set.
- 1:35:12Speaker 6: He's now a cardiologist and a heart surgeon and he
- 1:35:15Speaker 6: runs a COVID command center and.
- 1:35:16Speaker 3: Was feelis himself. He's the CEO of the hospital.
- 1:35:19Speaker 6: And the one rule he had he said, you guys
- 1:35:23Speaker 6: are allowed to do any jokes that you want, but
- 1:35:26Speaker 6: you have to protect one thing or I'll stop working here.
- 1:35:29Speaker 6: It's all these young doctors and nurses want to help,
- 1:35:32Speaker 6: and they have to always want to help and they
- 1:35:34Speaker 6: have to always care about the patients otherwise it'll mess
- 1:35:38Speaker 6: up our friendship. And so I always it's too corny,
- 1:35:41Speaker 6: But I see the show as a love letter to
- 1:35:43Speaker 6: that dude, because we all need that person in your life.
- 1:35:47Speaker 6: You know that when they ask you what you're doing,
- 1:35:49Speaker 6: you're like, Oh, I'm doing this superficial thing. And when
- 1:35:52Speaker 6: you ask them what they're doing, they tell you, and
- 1:35:54Speaker 6: then you're immediately like, oh, I'm.
- 1:35:55Speaker 3: A horrible person. I need to do so much more
- 1:35:57Speaker 3: with my life.
- 1:35:58Speaker 4: And he is.
- 1:36:00Speaker 3: He is that guy for me, Anthony, And uh.
- 1:36:02Speaker 6: That's why it was so inspiring to hear you talk
- 1:36:04Speaker 6: about doing the same type of stuff.
- 1:36:06Speaker 3: Man, You guys gotta have the real JD as a
- 1:36:08Speaker 3: guest on this sometimes.
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: Yeah, we love that, We would love that.
- 1:36:12Speaker 2: We should. We gotta, we gotta move him ahead of
- 1:36:14Speaker 2: uh of other of others except Anthony.
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: Do you have anything else?
- 1:36:17Speaker 2: Anything else? Anthony?
- 1:36:19Speaker 4: I could do a slightly more uplifting.
- 1:36:21Speaker 2: Yeah, and us and us on some on some uplifting this, Anthony.
- 1:36:26Speaker 4: So with that, guys have talked about some great stories
- 1:36:30Speaker 4: of the prop sky Hiding rowdy. You know, the who
- 1:36:36Speaker 4: is your favorite non actor member of the team and
- 1:36:40Speaker 4: maybe what's a fun story about that?
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: Oh shoot, okay, So I have a couple of them.
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: One uh, Bill Lawrence is the best boss that I've
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: ever had in my life, dude, So that he's now
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: I now consider him family, you know what I mean?
- 1:36:57Speaker 1: But catch, but he is the the the one person
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: in my life that I've worked for that I never
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: felt like, you know, and and he's had to be
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: hard on me sometimes, but he never made me feel like,
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: you know, I was an employee and he was my
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: boss and he was making me do my job. He's
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: always made me feel like an equal. So because of that,
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: he's one of the He's one of the most important
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: people in my life as as a man now. And
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: there's my parents And until I met Bill, I feel
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: like I was kind of lost. And then I met Bill,
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: and now I've learned so many things because of it.
- 1:37:41Speaker 2: Your answer is Bill, that's too nice.
- 1:37:43Speaker 3: Man, that's too I'm excited for Zaxon.
- 1:37:46Speaker 2: It's very sweet. But how my answer? So being said,
- 1:37:55Speaker 2: then there's a comma coming. Okay, that being said, there's
- 1:37:58Speaker 2: the teams name Frank.
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: There's one guy on the show who all of us,
- 1:38:05Speaker 1: Bill included and Zach included who we all have a
- 1:38:08Speaker 1: fondness for, and it's this dude, Patrick Bolton. Yeah, we
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: mentioned episode and and and we love everybody that we've
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: worked with, We've I love everybody that I've worked with
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: on Scrubs, but Patrick Bolton has a special place in
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: my heart. Him and Deontay Gordon actually too. Deontay has
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: a special place in my heart. But Patrick has a
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: special place in my heart because when we first started
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: doing the show, he I'm not gonna say he was bullied,
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: but he was the person that was not made fun of.
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: What's the word that, what's the He was the person
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: that was, I guess the most vulnerable to pranks.
- 1:38:47Speaker 2: No, if you think of it like this, like like
- 1:38:49Speaker 2: think of it like a high school and like the
- 1:38:51Speaker 2: grips are like the jock tough guys, right, and like
- 1:38:54Speaker 2: Patrick is like the nerdy British chess player.
- 1:38:59Speaker 1: Right, And these guys tried their hardest to break him,
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: and he always came out on top.
- 1:39:09Speaker 2: Well he became our best friend.
- 1:39:10Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:39:10Speaker 1: Well there's that too, But I remember they they want
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: one time they jelloed his prop cart like in.
- 1:39:18Speaker 2: The show The Office with the drawer, they jeloed his
- 1:39:20Speaker 2: whole cart, the whole thing.
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: Impressive, but he got but he his his comeback.
- 1:39:28Speaker 4: He ate.
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: No, his comeback was better than all of them. He
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: dressed up like the dude who jeloed his ship and
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: clowned this guy so hard. And I think even I think,
- 1:39:40Speaker 1: I think even Sean was like, you know what, I
- 1:39:43Speaker 1: respect you dude.
- 1:39:44Speaker 2: You are He played him all day as all day
- 1:39:48Speaker 2: he got in character and played that guy all day long.
- 1:39:52Speaker 3: Yeah, that's so funny.
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: So if you ask me, you know, we all had
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: great connections. Bill is very important to me. Patrick is
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: very important to me.
- 1:40:00Speaker 2: Well, I'm gonna say the same thing. Uh yeah, everything
- 1:40:04Speaker 2: Donald said about Bill, Bill's great.
- 1:40:06Speaker 6: But I'm just kidding, do you, guys, Zach, are you
- 1:40:08Speaker 6: free after after the podcast is over to tell me
- 1:40:11Speaker 6: your answer? Yeah, in a more foled out way about Yeah, yeah, Donald,
- 1:40:14Speaker 6: it's gonna be as good as Donald.
- 1:40:16Speaker 2: I'm gonna take what Donald I wrote down. I took
- 1:40:18Speaker 2: some notes on what Donald said. I'm gonna say the
- 1:40:20Speaker 2: same thing, but just probably add a few things.
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: Well you probably say with more big with bigger words too, Yes, Mart.
- 1:40:26Speaker 2: I'll use I'll say Bill, you are deserving to Bill,
- 1:40:30Speaker 2: you are Patrick Bolton, I gotta say it's the same answer.
- 1:40:35Speaker 2: He was a set dresser. We mentioned this in the
- 1:40:36Speaker 2: last episode, but for those of you who didn't hear
- 1:40:38Speaker 2: or don't know, a set tresser is the one who's
- 1:40:41Speaker 2: the on set representative of the art department while we're filming.
- 1:40:44Speaker 2: So he's moving set pieces around and moving decor around
- 1:40:47Speaker 2: and uh, so we were. He was always there and
- 1:40:50Speaker 2: uh and we just got really close with him. And
- 1:40:52Speaker 2: he's a very sweet guy and he's very funny and
- 1:40:54Speaker 2: Donald and I took him to Vegas and we we've
- 1:40:56Speaker 2: had a lot of adventures with him.
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: Dude. He worked on a show that I did after
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: and I was trying so hard to get him to
- 1:41:03Speaker 1: be a regular on the show. But he was doing
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: did he do Undateable?
- 1:41:07Speaker 3: Uh? Yeah, he's there for a second. Yeah, he was
- 1:41:09Speaker 3: doing something.
- 1:41:11Speaker 1: He was doing something with Bill that he was like, Oh,
- 1:41:14Speaker 1: I can't do this. I'm just day playing for a day.
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: But yeah, it was one of the best. Like, if
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: I was in a position to hire someone for just
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: to be around, he's one of those people, like he's
- 1:41:28Speaker 1: one of those people that you need, Like he could
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: take it. He could give it like there's just so
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: many ways that he was such an amazing person.
- 1:41:36Speaker 2: Yep, I will.
- 1:41:37Speaker 6: I'll close by going quick and saying that we are
- 1:41:40Speaker 6: very lucky because Rant starts with Randall, my old partner,
- 1:41:43Speaker 6: and you guys love him and he's my first one.
- 1:41:46Speaker 6: But Randall put together a crew that I was used
- 1:41:51Speaker 6: across so many shows, because let's face it, how many
- 1:41:54Speaker 6: shows have you guys worked on?
- 1:41:55Speaker 4: That?
- 1:41:56Speaker 3: Right now?
- 1:41:56Speaker 6: I can go liz Inwood, Sean, the Chung Brothers, Ethan, Tanya,
- 1:42:02Speaker 6: you know, Carrie Bennett, Salvon, you know Richard Well, you
- 1:42:05Speaker 6: guys remember all these.
- 1:42:06Speaker 3: People you know, and it just keeps going and going
- 1:42:11Speaker 3: and going.
- 1:42:12Speaker 6: But for me, the most interesting one, it might surprise
- 1:42:15Speaker 6: you guys, was the editor of Spin City was a
- 1:42:18Speaker 6: very gruff guy named John Michelle, and he he taught
- 1:42:24Speaker 6: me on Spin City. I just remember it. Gary Goldberg,
- 1:42:27Speaker 6: who's my mentor, brought me into editing. He's like, John,
- 1:42:30Speaker 6: I'm not going to be living in New York. You
- 1:42:32Speaker 6: got to teach this kid to edit because I didn't
- 1:42:34Speaker 6: know how to edit anything. And John in front of
- 1:42:37Speaker 6: me said, Jesus fucking Christ, because it's like the last
- 1:42:39Speaker 6: thing he wanted to do.
- 1:42:41Speaker 3: He had won to Emmy.
- 1:42:41Speaker 6: He's for editing the original Cosby Show and all these
- 1:42:44Speaker 6: other things, and.
- 1:42:45Speaker 3: He taught me to Uh. He's very kind of, you know, subdued,
- 1:42:50Speaker 3: quiet dude. He taught me to edit on that show,
- 1:42:53Speaker 3: and he became a mentor of mine.
- 1:42:55Speaker 6: And watching you guys kind of embrace him as part
- 1:42:58Speaker 6: of the family meant so much. And my favorite memory, Uh,
- 1:43:02Speaker 6: as everybody, this happens in a weird way. Everybody calls
- 1:43:06Speaker 6: people by Sometimes you'll into a person that you call
- 1:43:08Speaker 6: him by that first and last name, and I think
- 1:43:10Speaker 6: I can't remember as a cast member of one of
- 1:43:11Speaker 6: the writers, but I always referenced to.
- 1:43:13Speaker 3: Him because there was a John Inwood.
- 1:43:15Speaker 6: I would always say yeah, And I was with John
- 1:43:16Speaker 6: Michelle and a huge group of people on that show.
- 1:43:21Speaker 3: Thought that he must have like French origins, like his
- 1:43:24Speaker 3: name was, like his name was, like his name was
- 1:43:27Speaker 3: I thought his name was, his name.
- 1:43:30Speaker 6: Was, like his name is Jean Michelle Jones. And watching
- 1:43:33Speaker 6: him finally to one of the writers, go ano.
- 1:43:36Speaker 3: This fucking ship. My name is not Jean Michelle. My
- 1:43:38Speaker 3: name is John. My last name is Michelle.
- 1:43:40Speaker 6: Maybe he's like he's like everybody around here has been
- 1:43:45Speaker 6: calling me Jean Michelle for two years.
- 1:43:46Speaker 3: It may be so happy, but he's such a good dude.
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: Zach used to call him Jean Michelle all the time.
- 1:43:52Speaker 2: I thought he was friend. And the funny thing is
- 1:43:56Speaker 2: he's like this, like you you saw him. He was
- 1:43:57Speaker 2: in the show. He was the neighbor that gets mad
- 1:43:59Speaker 2: when when Donald keeps putting a rowdy in front of
- 1:44:01Speaker 2: his door. He's uh, he's uh. He's like this big
- 1:44:04Speaker 2: gruff guy and he does not look like yo.
- 1:44:07Speaker 6: He is a blue collar dude that's an editor man,
- 1:44:10Speaker 6: and it's such a meat and potatoes guy.
- 1:44:12Speaker 4: You know.
- 1:44:12Speaker 1: Well, he directed a couple of episodes Anthony of Scrubs also,
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: and but when he directed, he did every like there
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: was like every take. There would be ten takes for
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: each setup, right, So you would be you would work
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: for because he's an editor, so he wants everything covered, right.
- 1:44:30Speaker 6: He didn't even care what you guys were saying. He's
- 1:44:32Speaker 6: just like, I'm gonna need this, I'm gonna need this,
- 1:44:33Speaker 6: i gonna need this.
- 1:44:34Speaker 2: Yet.
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: Now, normally if a director comes in and says that ship,
- 1:44:38Speaker 1: you're like, all right, hold on now, okay, I understand
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: you wanna you wanna shoot the ship out of this,
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: but we gotta have No one would stand up to
- 1:44:47Speaker 1: Jean Michelle. John Michelle would be like, this is what
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: we're doing, and everybody would be like, OK, yeah, yeh yeah, yeah,
- 1:44:53Speaker 1: that's what you got a dog? Yeah? No, absolutely absolutely.
- 1:44:59Speaker 3: He by the way, he he never had a centement.
- 1:45:00Speaker 6: I'll tell you the last thing. And it's way too
- 1:45:02Speaker 6: many stories. He didn't have a sentimental bone in his body.
- 1:45:05Speaker 6: It seemed he's very gruff and not a sweet guy.
- 1:45:08Speaker 6: And I was married very young, in a marriage that
- 1:45:11Speaker 6: didn't work out as opposed to the one anthemy, you know,
- 1:45:13Speaker 6: and I've been married for twenty years. I got three kids,
- 1:45:15Speaker 6: and on Spin City, I was working there all the time.
- 1:45:18Speaker 6: And I didn't even live in the same state as
- 1:45:19Speaker 6: my wife when you know, we were married when I
- 1:45:21Speaker 6: was like twenty three and she's twenty one. And we
- 1:45:23Speaker 6: split up and I was in a bad place, and
- 1:45:27Speaker 6: I went home to my little studio apartment in New
- 1:45:29Speaker 6: York and there was a knock at the doorbell, and
- 1:45:33Speaker 6: much like it would happen in high school, John Michelle,
- 1:45:35Speaker 6: there was the six pack of beer and He's like yeah,
- 1:45:38Speaker 6: you and I are going to go walk somewhere and drink.
- 1:45:40Speaker 3: Beer, which is his way to say like, are you okay?
- 1:45:44Speaker 1: Do you know what I mean?
- 1:45:45Speaker 3: And he didn't really ask me if I He didn't
- 1:45:47Speaker 3: ask me if I was okay.
- 1:45:48Speaker 6: We literally went out and drank six beers, three each,
- 1:45:51Speaker 6: and he talked about sports, and then at the end
- 1:45:54Speaker 6: he was like, you good, I'm gonna see it work tomorrow.
- 1:45:56Speaker 3: I'm like, yeah, I'm all right. He's like, all right,
- 1:45:57Speaker 3: good night man. And it was so that's why I
- 1:46:00Speaker 3: mentioned his name, so touching and I hope he hears this.
- 1:46:02Speaker 4: I'm forever grateful, very sweet.
- 1:46:04Speaker 2: All Right, we gotta go, Anthony, because we've gone longer

- 1:46:21Speaker 4: Such an honor to meet you all. And if you're
- 1:46:23Speaker 4: doing your European tour sometime in the twenty twenty eight
- 1:46:27Speaker 4: time frame, when COVID's gone and you stop in Cleveland,
- 1:46:31Speaker 4: feel free. You were happy to have you.

- 1:47:00Speaker 2: Nope, this show is running long and probably cut what
- 1:47:04Speaker 2: Donald likes to eat in Cincinnati out.
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: Of the show. No, no, no, Cleveland if you're in Cleveland.
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: If you're in Cleveland, Mabels and Sliman's. I promise you

- 1:47:40Speaker 3: We're going so long?
- 1:47:41Speaker 6: Do you want do you want to rattle off a
- 1:47:43Speaker 6: bunch of times a bunch of remaining times of stuff.
- 1:47:46Speaker 2: But I just want to say, you can't not talk
- 1:47:48Speaker 2: about doctor Yanni Tour. It's some people's favorite thing ever.
- 1:47:51Speaker 6: You have to dude eighteen forty five doctor yan etur
- 1:47:54Speaker 6: yan Etour.
- 1:47:55Speaker 3: That's huge, Jehan.
- 1:47:57Speaker 2: And what about he goes, what about how Neil goes, Uh, Look,
- 1:48:01Speaker 2: I borrowed some stuff from your locker, our locker.
- 1:48:03Speaker 6: Uh.
- 1:48:04Speaker 3: That was not script that was not scr scripted.
- 1:48:06Speaker 6: By the way, that's just a classic Neil fan like
- 1:48:08Speaker 6: when Donald says watching other actors, I know that that
- 1:48:12Speaker 6: stuff was just I borrowed some stuff from your locker,
- 1:48:15Speaker 6: which is supposed to be funny because he can get
- 1:48:16Speaker 6: into your locker.
- 1:48:17Speaker 3: That he changed it midline to our locker. It kills me.
- 1:48:20Speaker 2: Yeah. What about when I go when I go, uh,
- 1:48:24Speaker 2: Sarah's is something like, oh, it's it's going great, right,
- 1:48:26Speaker 2: And I go yeah, And then the voiceover goes throw
- 1:48:28Speaker 2: her down on the gurney and mount her like a lion.
- 1:48:31Speaker 3: Like that was a very woody Allen reading. Donald usually
- 1:48:33Speaker 3: points those out, like a lion.
- 1:48:36Speaker 1: Mount like a lion. I I I loved, I loved
- 1:48:40Speaker 1: first time we hear it, chocolate Bear, Why so sad
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: chocolate Bear.
- 1:48:44Speaker 2: Sad chocolate Bear.
- 1:48:45Speaker 6: Uh.
- 1:48:46Speaker 7: And then.
- 1:48:48Speaker 2: Did you consult?
- 1:48:50Speaker 1: I would never consult, Trevor Wiki.
- 1:48:53Speaker 3: I dare Zach, I wouldn't dare.
- 1:48:55Speaker 2: I got that first first time chocolate bear has ever
- 1:48:58Speaker 2: said from from Scrubs Wiki. Yeah, what else you got? Bill?
- 1:49:03Speaker 6: I will tell you that I decided that I was
- 1:49:05Speaker 6: going to work with Bob Clindennon again, and you know,
- 1:49:09Speaker 6: ended up being a regular on Cougartown. When at twelve thirty,
- 1:49:13Speaker 6: when when he's walking out of there with Carla after
- 1:49:17Speaker 6: he you know, after he talked to Richard Kine's character,
- 1:49:22Speaker 6: he says, you know, he's talking about the other cancer
- 1:49:25Speaker 6: doctor and he's like, that guy's a better sense of humor.
- 1:49:27Speaker 3: Everybody likes him more.
- 1:49:29Speaker 6: And then he says, of course he wouldn't be laughing
- 1:49:31Speaker 6: so much if he knew I was sleeping with his wife,
- 1:49:35Speaker 6: you know, And it is the best part. And then
- 1:49:37Speaker 6: in the script he was just supposed to walk away
- 1:49:39Speaker 6: confidently whistling, and then Bob Quinndennon said, I think it
- 1:49:42Speaker 6: would be funnier if.
- 1:49:43Speaker 3: My guy can't whistle. And if you watch, he walks
- 1:49:48Speaker 3: away going barely blowing Aaron whistling.
- 1:49:53Speaker 6: I thought it was the funniest thing I ever seen. Man,
- 1:49:54Speaker 6: that guy is so good as a character actor.
- 1:49:56Speaker 2: I love that guy. I tried everything I do too.
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: I did, I did, I did a I did a
- 1:50:02Speaker 1: sitcom called The Exes, and he came on as a
- 1:50:05Speaker 1: guest star one day. And uh, when I say, from
- 1:50:10Speaker 1: table read toheard every time, every time, I'm surprised they
- 1:50:17Speaker 1: didn't bring him back on that show as well. Man,
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: Like he just always always on fire. When he walked in,
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: I was like, Yo, this dude's gonna be great. Watch well.
- 1:50:28Speaker 2: Thank you, William van Dozer, Lawrence the fourth yep.
- 1:50:32Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:50:32Speaker 3: By the way, you know what the most fun about
- 1:50:34Speaker 3: this I.
- 1:50:34Speaker 2: Said, I said that you were the third, and people said, uh, no.
- 1:50:37Speaker 3: The fourth.
- 1:50:38Speaker 2: He's the fourth.
- 1:50:39Speaker 3: Yeah, there's four of them.
- 1:50:40Speaker 6: I gotta say, Man, the coolest thing talking to you
- 1:50:43Speaker 6: guys about this stuff is I never know which way
- 1:50:44Speaker 6: it's gonna go, And often, you know, you come into
- 1:50:47Speaker 6: these things kind of just searching for something, and what
- 1:50:50Speaker 6: you end up doing is discovering things.
- 1:50:58Speaker 1: It was alright, it was alright, bro. I saw it coming.
- 1:51:02Speaker 3: Yeah, I saw it coming.
