- 0:00Speaker 1: In Tragedy a true crime podcast, we discuss crimes that
- 0:04Speaker 1: may be violent in nature. At times, we may cover homicides,
- 0:08Speaker 1: missing people, and other topics that may be unsettling. Listener
- 0:12Speaker 1: discretion is advised. Welcome to episode nine. This is Tragedy,
- 0:33Speaker 1: a True crime Podcast.
- 0:35Speaker 2: I'm Elisa, I'm Michael.
- 0:38Speaker 1: In this interview, we learned more about Ian's promotion and
- 0:41Speaker 1: life leading up to when he went missing in August
- 0:44Speaker 1: of twenty twenty four from his girlfriend, Kayleie Evans. And Kaylie,
- 0:49Speaker 1: we're just really grateful that you are here with us
- 0:52Speaker 1: and you are going to share your relationship with Ian,
- 0:59Speaker 1: and so thank you so much for being here.
- 1:02Speaker 3: I know I appreciate what you guys are doing for sure.
- 1:05Speaker 1: So we're just gonna start off with just talk to
- 1:08Speaker 1: us about your relationship with Ian and what you want
- 1:11Speaker 1: people to know about him.
- 1:14Speaker 4: So we met.
- 1:17Speaker 3: About June of twenty twenty three. A couple of months later,
- 1:24Speaker 3: he moved in with me and he was great guy.
- 1:34Speaker 3: He had a son of his own. He was going
- 1:39Speaker 3: through something, I guess, but I have a daughter who's five,
- 1:46Speaker 3: and he was like the ideal dad. Father. Fragure anybody
- 1:56Speaker 3: that you want to meet. You know, you don't You're like, mhm,
- 2:01Speaker 3: whom I meeting out there?
- 2:02Speaker 1: You know?
- 2:03Speaker 3: He was perfect, uh huh. He was very responsible, always
- 2:12Speaker 3: wanting to be better, wanting to do better for his kid,
- 2:19Speaker 3: for my daughter Evan. And shortly after we met, he
- 2:25Speaker 3: moved in with my daughter and my parents. We lived
- 2:32Speaker 3: in the camper out back and he yeah, like I said,
- 2:41Speaker 3: he just he was there for her. He showed up
- 2:48Speaker 3: where I did have that with my daughter or my
- 2:51Speaker 3: daughter's father. Hard worker, funny guy, super funny. That's probably
- 3:07Speaker 3: what got me is that he was a super funny guy.
- 3:13Speaker 3: I just good looking obviously, but he was hilarious. He
- 3:17Speaker 3: had a great sense of humor. He was.
- 3:23Speaker 4: Mature, not like.
- 3:27Speaker 3: You know, I try to meet somebody online or whatever
- 3:34Speaker 3: on tender, They're like just be asking you the whole time.
- 3:41Speaker 4: He didn't. He was one hundred percent the real deal.
- 3:46Speaker 3: It was a great dude.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Thank you for sharing all that. We've heard lots of
- 3:51Speaker 1: positive things about Ian, that he was funny and that
- 3:55Speaker 1: he would sort of like take the room, so it
- 3:58Speaker 1: sounds like very similar to what you were experiencing.
- 4:03Speaker 4: He was. He was a drummer. My brother is a drummer.
- 4:09Speaker 3: And I don't know if you know anything about musicians,
- 4:12Speaker 3: but they're they're kind of own free and uh, drummers
- 4:17Speaker 3: especially they they are a little bit more passionate because
- 4:21Speaker 3: they don't get to express except for beating all the drums.
- 4:27Speaker 3: And unfortunately I never got to see him play live,
- 4:33Speaker 3: but he did show me many videos of him playing.
- 4:39Speaker 3: And in this small county, I've talked to many people
- 4:46Speaker 3: since this has happened that I've known him and know,
- 4:50Speaker 3: oh yeah, yeah, a drummer, you know. And like I said,
- 4:55Speaker 3: my brother is a drummer. They talk drums all night impsently,
- 5:01Speaker 3: like multiple times. I think that chose a deeper level passion.
- 5:14Speaker 1: Talk to us about the day that Ian disappeared.
- 5:19Speaker 3: So it was my birthday weekend. Actually my birthday was
- 5:27Speaker 3: the twenty second. You went missing on the twenty sixth,
- 5:33Speaker 3: and his son's birthday was the next day, the twenty seventh.
- 5:39Speaker 3: He and I spent time together, and then I spent
- 5:43Speaker 3: time with a family friend and we went down to
- 5:51Speaker 3: the Sloop Bridge and Ian took aid and out.
- 5:58Speaker 4: Off to child.
- 5:59Speaker 3: I see someone did something with him. But on the
- 6:04Speaker 3: way home, apparently there was some work for raff I
- 6:08Speaker 3: don't know.
- 6:09Speaker 4: He had said that he got stuck in a.
- 6:16Speaker 3: Like a traffic stop, like not a duy checkpoint, but
- 6:22Speaker 3: like a traffic stop.
- 6:25Speaker 4: And then that morning.
- 6:28Speaker 3: Of the twenty six, the day he went missing, he
- 6:33Speaker 3: took me to work. I work at Rockies. I had
- 6:37Speaker 3: to be there at five o'clock in the morning, and
- 6:43Speaker 3: he took me up there, said goodbye. Was it the
- 6:49Speaker 3: best of goodbyes, but nonetheless he took me to work.
- 7:02Speaker 3: From what I know, next, the best I can say
- 7:07Speaker 3: is that my dad said he came home to our house.
- 7:14Speaker 3: He sat in the driveway for an hour or two.
- 7:20Speaker 3: I think his mom had mentioned he had been by
- 7:23Speaker 3: her house to pick up some tools, and then from
- 7:33Speaker 3: there that was like the last he was ever seen,
- 7:37Speaker 3: except his truck was seen fully into Tom Brawark.
- 7:44Speaker 1: Can you tell me about things were good? Things were
- 7:48Speaker 1: happening with Ian's work. We understand he'd gotten a promotion.
- 7:51Speaker 3: He did about four or five days before all this happened.
- 7:59Speaker 3: He and I had been to buy a car like
- 8:01Speaker 3: we've been driving. My car was a Kia Sarno that
- 8:04Speaker 3: was given to me by a family friend and had
- 8:09Speaker 3: overheated and burnt out, and it wasn't working anymore. Might
- 8:13Speaker 3: I would give Ian rides to work or to meet people, whatnot.
- 8:22Speaker 3: And we were looking to buy another car. And I
- 8:25Speaker 3: can remember I was at work one day and he
- 8:27Speaker 3: called and said, Oh, you don't even We're not too
- 8:31Speaker 3: worried about this. My boss just said, you know, he's
- 8:37Speaker 3: going to give me a promotion and pay for this truck,
- 8:43Speaker 3: pay for the insurance, and you know, take it out
- 8:50Speaker 3: of my check, make sure everything's accounted for whatever. Oh
- 8:57Speaker 3: And he didn't have it but three or four days
- 9:00Speaker 3: before he went missing. Oh, but he had worked for
- 9:06Speaker 3: the company it Spartan Exteriors. He had worked for them
- 9:13Speaker 3: prior to meeting him.
- 9:27Speaker 1: And part of the reason that we are doing this podcast,
- 9:31Speaker 1: actually our main reason is to keep the exposure on
- 9:36Speaker 1: this case right, both in the community and with law enforcement.
- 9:40Speaker 1: So if you could just talk about those two things separately,
- 9:43Speaker 1: What kind of support did you get community and what
- 9:46Speaker 1: would you like to continue to see it from the community,
- 9:49Speaker 1: And then the same question from lawenforcement.
- 9:53Speaker 3: The community itself. Like I said, I work at Rockies.
- 9:56Speaker 3: It's a gas station. It's like a Bucky's, but it's
- 10:00Speaker 3: you know, smaller scale, start commercialize. But my boss let
- 10:07Speaker 3: me put out flyers there at this store about him
- 10:14Speaker 3: being missing, and there was a lot of response.
- 10:21Speaker 4: As far as I.
- 10:23Speaker 3: Was the police side, Unfortunately, I guess because I'm not
- 10:32Speaker 3: a family member, even though he was living.
- 10:36Speaker 5: At my house at the time of his disappearance, and
- 10:42Speaker 5: I and my dad were one of the and his
- 10:48Speaker 5: mom apparently.
- 10:52Speaker 3: Were you know, three last people to see him alive.
- 10:59Speaker 3: They took ours, They had us come in, they had us,
- 11:03Speaker 3: you know, sit down and talk to them. But and
- 11:06Speaker 3: I clearly have nothing to hide, but nobody ever came
- 11:12Speaker 3: out to my house. Nothing came out to the house.
- 11:16Speaker 3: I don't know if they went out to Teresa's house.
- 11:23Speaker 3: I would have wished that there was a little bit more.
- 11:26Speaker 3: There were a couple instances where I felt like they
- 11:30Speaker 3: felt short. They're like, well, why do you want us
- 11:35Speaker 3: to look into I want you to look into this
- 11:40Speaker 3: because that's your job.
- 11:42Speaker 4: They're the clans.
- 11:44Speaker 3: You know, I'm not the police, But I feel like
- 11:51Speaker 3: you should cover all bases, and I don't feel like
- 11:55Speaker 3: all bases were covered. I don't know if when you
- 12:02Speaker 3: talk to missus Teresa, she let you know about the
- 12:06Speaker 3: North Florida diving company. Guy, don't recall that.
- 12:12Speaker 4: Huh.
- 12:13Speaker 3: Okay. So there's the guy who came into Rockies a
- 12:18Speaker 3: couple of times and he had North Florida diving shirt on.
- 12:24Speaker 3: I said, well, what do you you know? Filing muscrap
- 12:27Speaker 3: enough courage, So what do you do? He said, well, we,
- 12:32Speaker 3: you know, like salvage their boats and clean them up
- 12:37Speaker 3: and the undersides. Everything. We do reclaims of objects.
- 12:43Speaker 4: So what about lost bodies?
- 12:47Speaker 3: He said, yeah, sometimes we do that. And I mentioned
- 12:51Speaker 3: him about Ian's case and he said, yeah, no, I
- 12:55Speaker 3: already know about it. We've already been looking. And he's
- 13:01Speaker 3: maybe somebody you might want to talk to you. I
- 13:04Speaker 3: don't know if he would, I would hope some He's
- 13:07Speaker 3: always been a really nice guy to me. Come like
- 13:10Speaker 3: I said, he comes into the store and he'll get
- 13:12Speaker 3: the updates of Oh I was able with my boat
- 13:19Speaker 3: my side scan and scan to go and look on Munson.
- 13:23Speaker 4: That's cleared.
- 13:25Speaker 3: Talk when that's cleared. Oh, just because a lot of
- 13:31Speaker 3: the chatter on Facebook, in my opinion, on my comments
- 13:38Speaker 3: have been well if they can't find his trucked then
- 13:42Speaker 3: like it's got to be somewhere in water. And I
- 13:46Speaker 3: don't really have no clues and who know theories, but
- 13:53Speaker 3: I'm appreciative for him taking his time out to look
- 14:00Speaker 3: for and do that. Munson and Taco and are big legs.
- 14:08Speaker 1: Yeah, they are.
- 14:10Speaker 2: One thing we'll do is, you know, after we finished
- 14:12Speaker 2: the interview, we'll touch base again and you know, we
- 14:15Speaker 2: want again make sure we have his content information so
- 14:17Speaker 2: we can do that reach out.
- 14:19Speaker 3: But we don't want to get you his guys or
- 14:23Speaker 3: you guys his stuff because yeah, and I think he
- 14:26Speaker 3: would be willing to talk to you, because he was
- 14:28Speaker 3: a super nice guy when he came in and I
- 14:31Speaker 3: brought it up and he's like, oh, yeah, no, I've
- 14:33Speaker 3: already like there was a little mini YouTube clip about
- 14:39Speaker 3: Ian's case and I brought that up to him. I said,
- 14:45Speaker 3: do you even know anything about this? And he said, no,
- 14:47Speaker 3: I do know these guys, you know, but it would
- 14:53Speaker 3: be they're guys that have like like water from I
- 14:59Speaker 3: don't know.
- 15:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I think you're referring to the Depths of History guy,
- 15:06Speaker 2: and we've watched his video and he's one of the
- 15:09Speaker 2: people we've reached out to as well. Okay, there's a question,
- 15:17Speaker 2: what do you think may have happened?
- 15:23Speaker 3: Honestly, I really don't know the whole thing is so weird,
- 15:30Speaker 3: and by his mom Kelly saying like, oh, he's stuck
- 15:34Speaker 3: back by the house and picked up tools, Like I
- 15:37Speaker 3: didn't know that he was needing any tools. He had
- 15:41Speaker 3: just started that job back about like three months or
- 15:46Speaker 3: three weeks, but he wasn't talking to me about, Oh,
- 15:51Speaker 3: I need this tool from my house, or I need
- 15:55Speaker 3: that tool from my house. I don't know why you
- 16:00Speaker 3: would have been there.
- 16:03Speaker 2: You said also that he was in the driveway at
- 16:05Speaker 2: your house and your dad and the katy had been there.
- 16:07Speaker 2: Did you say for an hour or two? Do you
- 16:09Speaker 2: know why you just sat in a driveway?
- 16:12Speaker 4: No, I don't know why he was, my dad said.
- 16:16Speaker 3: After he took me to work that morning, Supposedly from
- 16:21Speaker 3: what I know, he took me to work that morning,
- 16:25Speaker 3: he went to his mom's house, talked to his brother Daniel,
- 16:30Speaker 3: who is now deceased, came back to my house and
- 16:35Speaker 3: sat in the driveway for about an hour, came inside,
- 16:38Speaker 3: took a shower, left for work, talking to Miss Teresa.
- 16:45Speaker 3: After he left my house having a shower, he went
- 16:51Speaker 3: back to her house and got the tools.
- 16:56Speaker 4: I don't know. It's interesting.
- 17:00Speaker 2: That seems like a lot of back and forth.
- 17:03Speaker 4: Mm hmm, it sure does.
- 17:16Speaker 2: And talk to me about the job. You know, we
- 17:18Speaker 2: understand this promotion. We understand that it meant more money,
- 17:22Speaker 2: more opportunity. What was the new job?
- 17:25Speaker 3: So he had worked when I met Ian, he was
- 17:30Speaker 3: working at the liquor store on ninety eight and Sprint Creek.
- 17:34Speaker 3: That's how I met him. Shortly after meeting him though,
- 17:41Speaker 3: he was like, you know, I need to find a
- 17:45Speaker 3: new job whatever. So he worked at Saint Mark's batter
- 17:51Speaker 3: for maybe six months, and then something happened with that.
- 17:56Speaker 3: I don't know, but he didn't have that job anymore,
- 18:01Speaker 3: and he's like, I'm going to try and get my
- 18:05Speaker 3: job back with Spartan Exteriors and that was the construction company,
- 18:12Speaker 3: and he did.
- 18:13Speaker 4: He got it.
- 18:15Speaker 3: He worked there a couple of weeks and called me
- 18:18Speaker 3: one day at work and was like, that's it. Don't
- 18:21Speaker 3: worry about finding the car. My boss just offered me
- 18:26Speaker 3: a truck with the insurance. He's gonna take it out
- 18:30Speaker 3: of my pagemack, Like that's all gonna be paid for.
- 18:37Speaker 3: Don't worry because I mean, I have a car, but
- 18:40Speaker 3: it was old and overheating, and so we shared it.
- 18:47Speaker 3: But he's like, don't worry, like I got it figured
- 18:51Speaker 3: out type thing. And it wasn't four days. He got
- 18:57Speaker 3: the car on my birthday, the twenty se can't because
- 19:01Speaker 3: I remember being like, it's my birthday, why aren't you home?
- 19:08Speaker 3: You know? And then twenty fourth or twenty third, twenty fourth,
- 19:17Speaker 3: twenty fifth, twenty six, that was the day he went
- 19:20Speaker 3: missing in twenty six, and his son's birthday was the
- 19:25Speaker 3: very next day. Someone was turning eleven, and he would
- 19:29Speaker 3: never have missed Aiden's birthday, never, ever, ever, ever.
- 19:33Speaker 6: I have a question about that day when you were
- 19:38Speaker 6: able to get back to your phone at the end
- 19:41Speaker 6: of the day, had you ear any text messages or
- 19:44Speaker 6: phone calls or anything from him at all?
- 19:47Speaker 3: No? So okay and good because I thought about this too, like, oh,
- 19:54Speaker 3: he had told me at one point he had an
- 19:56Speaker 3: alarm for like two fifteen because he knew I got
- 20:01Speaker 3: off work at two, like two fifteen. He'd give me
- 20:05Speaker 3: a call if I hadn't called him yet, And most
- 20:09Speaker 3: of the time after two i'd give.
- 20:12Speaker 4: Him a call.
- 20:13Speaker 3: And that day I called him, he didn't answer. And
- 20:18Speaker 3: my cat actually so crazy enough, I had a cat,
- 20:26Speaker 3: she had four kittens, Ian and I watched four kittens
- 20:30Speaker 3: be born. It was a magical moment, like.
- 20:37Speaker 4: For real, and.
- 20:41Speaker 3: Two of them got given away, one got I don't know.
- 20:49Speaker 4: Lost.
- 20:53Speaker 3: But when I got home that day, one of the
- 20:55Speaker 3: kittens was in a tree about thirty feet up in
- 21:00Speaker 3: the air, and I kept trying to call him. I said, listen,
- 21:03Speaker 3: I understand we didn't leave on the best terms this morning,
- 21:10Speaker 3: but I would really appreciate you calling me because I
- 21:14Speaker 3: don't know what to do about this cat. Miss kittens
- 21:17Speaker 3: up there, my five year old daughters crying.
- 21:23Speaker 4: I don't know, how do you have the kitten out?
- 21:28Speaker 3: Eventually the kitten came out, but he never came home.
- 21:33Speaker 4: Mhm.
- 21:36Speaker 1: Would he typically answer the phone when you called it?
- 21:39Speaker 1: I mean, I know he's working, but was he a lot?
- 21:42Speaker 3: Yeah, most all the time. Yeah, so that was unusual when.
- 21:48Speaker 2: You called him. Was the phone going direct a voicemail
- 21:50Speaker 2: or was it ringing?
- 21:52Speaker 4: It rang?
- 21:55Speaker 3: But he didn't answer, And so that like made me
- 21:58Speaker 3: more worried, Yeah, because I was like, no, you would answer,
- 22:04Speaker 3: he did, you would answer for me, But he did it.
- 22:11Speaker 3: And so about maybe three point thirty four o'clock, I
- 22:14Speaker 3: knew something was really wrong that like something was really
- 22:20Speaker 3: really wrong. I think maybe even called his mom or
- 22:26Speaker 3: his mom called me that night, maybe around seven, to say,
- 22:31Speaker 3: have you heard from him? I said, no, I haven't
- 22:34Speaker 3: heard from him. And like I said, his son's birthday
- 22:37Speaker 3: was the next day, and he wouldn't have I'm sorry,
- 22:42Speaker 3: he wouldn't have missed in his birthday for anything.
- 22:48Speaker 2: You know, is there anything that you wanted to share
- 22:50Speaker 2: that maybe we didn't think to ask yet?
- 22:55Speaker 3: I don't know. I just I really appreciate what you
- 22:58Speaker 3: guys are doing. They do, like I think I told
- 23:04Speaker 3: a listener the other night in a text for my
- 23:07Speaker 3: little true crime Jockie myself, but I never in a
- 23:16Speaker 3: million years would have thought that i'd be here, And
- 23:21Speaker 3: I really appreciate what you guys are doing because.
- 23:26Speaker 4: I don't.
- 23:29Speaker 3: I don't think the Sheriff's office is taking it so seriously.
- 23:33Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 23:33Speaker 3: Anytime I call, it doesn't asked. Then they're like, well,
- 23:37Speaker 3: you're not family, we can't talk to you. So I
- 23:40Speaker 3: don't know what they're.
- 23:40Speaker 4: Doing, but I appreciate.
- 23:47Speaker 3: And I've tried to get w CTV interviews those fell through,
- 23:57Speaker 3: So I appreciate you guys taking your time out to
- 24:00Speaker 3: do this.
- 24:13Speaker 1: Ian Rogers was last seen in Crawfordville, Florida, the morning
- 24:16Speaker 1: of August twenty sixth, twenty twenty four. At the time,
- 24:20Speaker 1: he was wearing a black hat, sunglasses, a blue long
- 24:24Speaker 1: sleeve dry fit shirt, a white undershirt, tan cargo shorts,
- 24:29Speaker 1: and brown work boots. Ian has a half tattoo on
- 24:33Speaker 1: his right forearm, which consists of two gorillas and a
- 24:37Speaker 1: salt shaker, a tribal tattoo on his left calf, and
- 24:41Speaker 1: a scroll tattoo with the word mom on his right calf.
- 24:46Speaker 1: He was driving a white twenty nineteen Dodge Ram truck
- 24:50Speaker 1: Florida license plate rsk U five seven. The truck is
- 24:55Speaker 1: also missing. Ian told family, friends and colleagues he was
- 25:01Speaker 1: on his way to work, but he never made it.
- 25:03Speaker 1: If you have any information, please call the Walcolla County
