- 0:15Speaker 1: What's up, and welcome to Movie Meltdown. I'm Brian, and
- 0:18Speaker 1: on this exclusive Horror Club episode, we head back to
- 0:21Speaker 1: the Bastion to discuss a new horror movie, and in
- 0:24Speaker 1: true Meltdown fashion. And since we are specifically jumping into
- 0:28Speaker 1: the young adult horror novel turned into film world, who
- 0:32Speaker 1: better to assess the situation than our resident YA horror enthusiast, Misty.
- 0:37Speaker 1: And yes, she has plenty to say about how this
- 0:40Speaker 1: movie fits into the YA horror world. Or doesn't. And
- 0:44Speaker 1: of course, as per usual, that also means Jay gets
- 0:47Speaker 1: roped into it. Which is awesome because as you probably know,
- 0:50Speaker 1: he always has his own special take on things. Plus,
- 0:53Speaker 1: we usually get each other off track with some sort
- 0:55Speaker 1: of ridiculous story. So if you're not already a member,
- 0:59Speaker 1: obviously now is the time to join the Meltdown Horror Club,
- 1:02Speaker 1: where you'll get to hear us say awesome things like this. Well,
- 1:08Speaker 1: I mean, to carry over from the end of the
- 1:10Speaker 1: last movie slash beginning of this movie, that is a
- 1:13Speaker 1: lot of phone cord.
- 1:15Speaker 2: There is one called Lights Out where they go to
- 1:17Speaker 2: a camp called Camp Nightwing. And it does have some
- 1:20Speaker 2: of the same... She has a girl who's her former
- 1:23Speaker 2: best friend who's pissed at her for telling on her
- 1:26Speaker 2: for something, which is.
- 1:29Speaker 3: Oh, with the camps that were like they were summer
- 1:31Speaker 3: camps where your where your parents would drop you off.
- 1:34Speaker 1: This is 80s.
- 1:35Speaker 3: This was in the 70s.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Day camps or stay in there.
- 1:38Speaker 3: No, this was like at like when you got out
- 1:41Speaker 3: of school, like in the summer camp. You may have
- 1:45Speaker 3: been out of school for a whole week, and then
- 1:47Speaker 3: my parents took.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Me and dropped me off at camp.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Shipped you off.
- 1:50Speaker 3: And I was there the entire fucking summer.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Those straws were a struggle. Yeah.
- 1:58Speaker 1: The struggle is real, man.
- 2:00Speaker 2: You actually poke all the way through. All the way through.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Or stab yourself with the pointy side of the straw.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Or you get a defective one that didn't have a
- 2:07Speaker 2: fucking straw.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Or didn't have the hole punched through. So you're just
- 2:10Speaker 1: going straight through.
- 2:11Speaker 3: You just had to fight it.
- 2:13Speaker 2: The barrels.
- 2:14Speaker 3: Squeeze it.
- 2:16Speaker 2: And I was terrified I was going to get stuck
- 2:19Speaker 2: and die underground.
- 2:20Speaker 3: Are we talking about like real spelunking or?
- 2:21Speaker 2: Like me having to crawl through holes. Okay, yeah, yeah.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Which they discuss when they're in the tunnels and everything.
- 2:28Speaker 2: Which again, there's a Fear Street book where they're lost
- 2:30Speaker 2: in tunnels underneath the school. So that kind of ties
- 2:32Speaker 2: together too. They're underneath the tunnel. It's called Trapped. They're
- 2:36Speaker 2: under the school because they're in detention. So they're like, oh, well,
- 2:39Speaker 2: you hear back in the day there was this place
- 2:41Speaker 2: where kids used to hang out under the school. So
- 2:43Speaker 2: we're going to go get in these tunnels under the school.
- 2:45Speaker 2: And there's this red mist. You could use a boom box.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking.
- 2:51Speaker 3: I was like, you know what my room doesn't have?
- 2:53Speaker 1: A fucking boom box.
- 2:56Speaker 2: I liked these characters. I liked her. I liked the sister.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Yeah, even the sister being the preppy wannabe girl that
- 3:03Speaker 1: she is. You see, like, there's more there, and you
- 3:06Speaker 1: see she is trying to put that behind her and
- 3:10Speaker 1: have some sort of life that most kids in this
- 3:12Speaker 1: town don't have.
- 3:15Speaker 2: And it's like, she doesn't even seem to fucking care,
- 3:16Speaker 2: because she's got Sam, so everything's okay. I'm like, but
- 3:19Speaker 2: your fucking best friend just died. You don't care about
- 3:21Speaker 2: that at all?
- 3:22Speaker 1: There's a flashback for you if you listen to the
- 3:28Speaker 1: Sleepaway Camp episode. Where we bitched about Judy the whole
- 3:31Speaker 1: damn time.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Because Judy.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Wait, wait, what is Judy? You know what?
- 3:36Speaker 3: I remember as a kid sweating my ass off in camp.
- 3:39Speaker 3: Because we were in these little cabins and they didn't
- 3:42Speaker 3: have AC. And it was fucking miserable. But they were like,
- 3:46Speaker 3: you know what?
- 3:46Speaker 2: You're a kid, so shut the fuck up.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Yeah, that's pretty much how it works.
- 3:51Speaker 3: Stay in your sweaty ass cabin.
- 3:54Speaker 1: All I can say is while we're still in the
- 3:56Speaker 1: potty area. Sadie putting her head through the hole.
- 4:00Speaker 3: Is the most disturbing thing in this movie.
- 4:03Speaker 1: I saw a lot of kids die, but none of
- 4:04Speaker 1: that was near as disturbing as her. As long as
- 4:09Speaker 1: she got an axe to the head or something like that.
- 4:10Speaker 2: I think everybody got an axe to the head.
- 4:12Speaker 1: That's kind of the running thing on this one.
- 4:14Speaker 2: I was like, whoa, they are not blinking away from
- 4:17Speaker 2: killing kids, even less in this one.
- 4:20Speaker 1: This was a generational thing. Every person that I know
- 4:24Speaker 1: that is of the next wave and younger.
- 4:29Speaker 3: You had cassette tapes and you kept them in the
- 4:31Speaker 3: little the case. And of course, you could only like
- 4:35Speaker 3: the one I had only fit like maybe 25 cassette tapes.
- 4:40Speaker 3: And the problem is.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Because we leave the weird story part of it, like
- 4:46Speaker 1: they're trying to piece together the story so much in
- 4:48Speaker 1: that first movie.
- 4:49Speaker 2: We're here.
- 4:50Speaker 1: It's just her telling the story. There's no piecing it together.
- 4:53Speaker 1: It's not until we come back that they're like, ah,
- 4:56Speaker 1: so see, it was this and this. And then they
- 4:58Speaker 1: get back into that part of the piece and the
- 5:00Speaker 1: whole overarching tale together. But once we're... Oh, yeah. That's
- 5:06Speaker 1: another thing.
- 5:06Speaker 2: We were talking about that.
- 5:07Speaker 3: They never explain why she has.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Yes, they existed, but it seems unlikely they were there.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Yeah. I appreciated the body count in this movie. Because
- 5:17Speaker 2: they were not messing around.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Dead people, not my nitpicking on juice boxes.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Not even just dead people. Dead kids.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Kids. Because they weren't even just going after the campers.
- 5:27Speaker 2: They were going after all the kids from Shadyside.
- 5:30Speaker 3: I found the website for the camp that I used
- 5:34Speaker 3: to go to.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Oh, God.
- 5:36Speaker 3: They're still around.
- 5:39Speaker 1: And before the week was out, my sister was dead.
- 5:41Speaker 1: And they cut specifically to.
- 5:44Speaker 3: When I was a kid at camp, I was so
- 5:46Speaker 3: hoping something like this would happen, but it never did.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Because you never came through. What?
- 5:52Speaker 1: Because you never came through.
- 5:54Speaker 2: You didn't snap, finally.
- 5:55Speaker 3: Well, you know, the funny thing is, I always got
- 5:57Speaker 3: in trouble at camp for making weapons.
- 6:00Speaker 2: This doesn't surprise me, actually.
- 6:02Speaker 1: I always thought something was going to happen.
- 6:04Speaker 2: And you were going to have to defend the camp? No,
- 6:06Speaker 2: I was going to have to.
- 6:08Speaker 1: Defend yourself.
- 6:09Speaker 2: Fuck everybody else.
- 6:10Speaker 1: Defend yourself.
- 6:11Speaker 3: I don't give a fuck about everybody else.
- 6:13Speaker 2: Fucking defend myself.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Now, as I said, if you join up and become
- 6:17Speaker 1: a Melketeer, not only will you get to hear this
- 6:20Speaker 1: episode in its entirety, also the entire first entry in
- 6:24Speaker 1: this series as well, but you'll also get to hear
- 6:28Speaker 1: all of the upcoming episodes, including we've already got a
- 6:31Speaker 1: very cool 70s classic, we'll say, coming up on a
- 6:35Speaker 1: future episode. And that movie was chosen by one of
- 6:39Speaker 1: our Horror Club members. So yes, when you join, you
- 6:42Speaker 1: not only get to listen to all these episodes, but
- 6:44Speaker 1: you get to help us pick what's going to be
- 6:46Speaker 1: on the list. The list of doom that's always there
- 6:49Speaker 1: waiting for us. We never know what horror movie is
- 6:52Speaker 1: going to be next. But all of the options come
- 6:56Speaker 1: from you. As soon as you join, you get to
- 6:58Speaker 1: put a movie on the list, and then we watch
- 7:01Speaker 1: whatever comes up next. Good, bad, or otherwise. So join

- 7:07Speaker 1: to do all of that, just go to MovieMeltdown.com and
