- 0:13I want to systematically surgically take us through what I'm telling you is that renewables are dead.
- 0:22Renewable energy, and that's mainly going to be the sun and the wind, though you can throw hydrogen in there, do not work.
- 0:29But when you say this, you've you got to give context.
- 0:32Otherwise, you just seem like you're some frankly nut.
- 0:38Hey, Mr.
- 0:40Podcaster, you're telling me the sun and the wind don't work.
- 0:44The sun and the wind are free.
- 0:47I want to give you a lot of context for what I mean by this.
- 0:51The title today's episodes are renewables are dead.
- 0:54This is Todd Royal.
- 0:56I'm your host of Geopower, Energy, and Real Politics.
- 1:01I want to begin with first Trump's 2.0, his new national security strategy.
- 1:07It made a lot of headlines in Europe due to its dismal assessment of the continent.
- 1:13The document drew attention to its lose, you know.
- 1:15Here's what's happening in Europe.
- 1:17They're losing share of global GDP.
- 1:19There's the de-sovereignization of its members by the EU.
- 1:22You have suppression of political opposition.
- 1:25You have the loss of national identities and self-confidence.
- 1:28You have cratering birth rates and the overwhelming problem of large-scale immigration that's been pushed by the globalists, like former German prime minister Angela Merkel.
- 1:40The last of this NSS is very significant because it predicts that the continent will be unrecognizable in 20 years or less.
- 1:50That is on top of they have overwhelmingly embraced renewables.
- 1:57Germany calls like Ingerweiden.
- 1:59Please forgive me, my German's not very good.
- 2:02They have spent over 500 billion dollars on it.
- 2:06Germany has the highest industrial electricity prices in the world, and they also have some of the highest electricity prices in the world, only beat by Great Britain.
- 2:17As I talked to you last week, Great Britain is a failed state.
- 2:21And I would add Europe is rapidly becoming a failed continent.
- 2:26NATO probably will have not much to do with it.
- 2:28Certainly the United States, part of NATO, and what you'll eventually become is one giant tourist attraction of oh, look, there's the Vatican.
- 2:37Oh, look, there's the Northern Lights.
- 2:40Hey, there's the canals of Venice, and there's nothing else that you will add to that, and you will probably be dominated by Islam.
- 2:49Um, what it then says the United States will eventually do is it will really not look at the countries, you know, of the Western and Northern Europe, but they'll begin to look at and what they're currently doing.
- 3:01Countries like Poland.
- 3:02Um, you'll look at the healthy nations of Central, Eastern, and Southern Europe as really as a solution, and you'll just get rid of the other um regions.
- 3:12You see that too currently with the Polish-led three C's initiative, which uh Greece also joined in 2023.
- 3:18This what's called the three SI aims to comprehensively integrate this shared space.
- 3:25And it's in the U.S.
- 3:26interest to support Poland's vision for economic, political, and military strategic strategic regions.
- 3:32Poland's also just become a one trillion dollar economy.
- 3:36So why am I saying renewables are dead?
- 3:39If you don't have energy, you have nothing.
- 3:43Energy is everything.
- 3:44Or former our former guest Domberg said energy is life.
- 3:48The Europeans use roughly 38 to 40 exajules of uh total energy, and they produce about five to six.
- 3:58They want to go to war with Ukraine, they want to have an industrial base, they want to pretend they have geopolitical power to take on China, to take on India, Russia, uh, North Korea, Iran.
- 4:13No, you don't.
- 4:14You have no energy, and you have no energy because you believe everything can come from renewables.
- 4:19That's something that is based on the wind and the sun.
- 4:23So when the wind doesn't blow, you don't have electricity.
- 4:26When the sun doesn't shine, you have electricity.
- 4:28It's winter in Europe.
- 4:30Go look and see how much wind is blowing, how much sun is shining.
- 4:34Renewables are dead, and it's it's killed Europe.
- 4:39And until they get rid of their obsession with uh human-cause global warming and climate change until their electric actually stop believing the Guardian, Laman, their Spiegel, you are a failed continent.
- 4:55And eventually you'll you'll likely be taken over.
- 4:59Um again, you'll be taken over by either Islam or some form of the Iranians, the Russians, um, the North Koreans, the BRICS nations with Brazil have their hand in it, India, but essentially this landmass will become nothing but either an Islamic hellhole with these tourist attractions that people will fly in, look at, fly out, and you'll eventually have authoritarian governments, or people just give over to the Keir Starmers, the Macron's, the Mertzes of the world, or someone like the leader of Estonia who claims they're gonna take on Russia or Finland, which is rearming to supposedly take on Russia.
- 5:48You have no energy.
- 5:51You have none.
- 5:52You refuse to frack, you refuse to burn coal, though the Germans are able to do it again.
- 5:58If you don't have energy, and if you don't have electricity, you have nothing.
- 6:02Renewables are dead.
- 6:04That's the first thing I wanted to talk about.
- 6:07The first bit of context.
- 6:09The second bit of bit of context is a gentleman named Doug Sheridan.
- 6:13He's this wonderful energy analyst, posts on LinkedIn.
- 6:17Um he really did a great piece last week where he just talked about um this whole nonsense of net zero.
- 6:26Uh that Goldman Sachs, you know, continues to foolishly say, oh, we're gonna transition and it's gonna work.
- 6:35Just go look at the statistical world review of energy.
- 6:40Look at it, and see if Goldman Sachs is correct, or are they a bunch of globalists who are sucking at the teeth of taxpayer subsidies because they're gonna make free money, they're gonna continue to just get subsidy after subsidy, kill places like Europe, kill big chunks of the United States because you believe that you're transitioning to net zero.
- 7:02Um, or even a partial transition.
- 7:06You also have people at the Wall Street Journal who talk about this.
- 7:10Uh, they they'll go, oh, we're still transitioning.
- 7:14They have no idea whether Goldman Sachs, his greedy, or the Wall Street Journal, which are fools, how hobbled Europe is.
- 7:23They can't complete compete globally.
- 7:26But here's the thing, they probably don't even care.
- 7:29Um they're kind of this European brigade of journalists who are based, you know, Brussels, Berlin, London.
- 7:36They are the elite of elite, they're clueless, they're probably married, they don't have children, they have nothing to think of other than themselves, they have no retirement, they offer nothing to society, so they have a duty to support Europe's effort to lead the world towards a net zero outcome.
- 7:53You could throw in most of the Northeast uh United States, anybody who votes for Democrats, uh, even places like Texas, who are greedy and stupid and use renewables.
- 8:04Look at their grids, and of course, the poster child in America is California.
- 8:08Um idea of a global energy transition is lost.
- 8:14It's failed, it's over.
- 8:16Look at Europe.
- 8:17It's like seeing Venezuela saying socialism works.
- 8:21That is a dead ideology, which New York City soon to learn.
- 8:25It doesn't work in Europe.
- 8:27Um really, too, the public should really begin to question any and everything.
- 8:34That these journalists who are in the tank for energy transition, Democrats, anything that's godless, abortion, redefining marriage, but on an energy front.
- 8:46All of those things, and of course, you have to throw in climate change, which there's no such thing as the climate changing because of CO2 and the climate changing because of human activity.
- 8:57That's not happening.
- 8:59Please quote me on that.
- 9:01Um more than happy to back it up too, with my own books, plus the many people, myself and my colleague Tom Harris have interviewed on our other program that I'm on, the other side of the story.
- 9:16Um, the easiest way to talk about climate change is this: whether you're a creationist or an evolutionist, it has been hotter, it has been colder, and there's been more stuff in the air referred to as parts per million.
- 9:28Before the industrial revolution took place, 1850, 1860 to currently, and fossil fuels began to be used, which began with coal.
- 9:37Now we're on to coal, oil, and gas.
- 9:40The Chinese are still using coal along with the Indians, the Malaysians, the Indonesians, the Vietnamese, uh, Germany is using coal again because otherwise they're gonna freeze to death.
- 9:55Renewables are dead.
- 9:58Don't believe journalists from the Wall Street.
- 10:00Journal, the Financial Times, the Economist, the Atlantic.
- 10:05Great, they went to great schools.
- 10:07I wouldn't believe most of those schools anymore.
- 10:10The way you look at renewables is saying, show me what your electricity prices are when you when you wholly use only renewables.
- 10:19Show me what your grid is like.
- 10:21And then more importantly, I would say to any people any of these people, any leader from the EU, Gavin Newsom, any Democrat, any Republican, anybody who believes in the wind and the sun can supply not even a modern society, but just a normal functioning grid.
- 10:40Go build a city, everything you want in said modern city from Paris or London or Brussels or New York or Los Angeles or pick your favorite Nouveau Reish city, whether it's a Starbucks, laundromat, a playground that needs lights, restaurants, homes, apartments, a factory to supply you with plastics, whatever that may be.
- 11:13Put all that into one city.
- 11:15Let's get 100,000 of these people, go live in for one year, do not allow them to leave, and watch how many of them walk out of life.
- 11:25You'll within 30 days, certainly three months, you'll have a scene from the walking dead.
- 11:33Renewables are dead.
- 11:35All of these news organizations, all of these journalists, all of these green Marxists, Democrats, Green Party who believe in climate change, and the answer is we want to use renewables.
- 11:51We want to use the wind and the sun for electricity, knowing that all the parts that come from solar panels and wind turbines are mainly made in China.
- 12:01It's all done by coal and every single component and every single one of a wind turbine and a solar panel comes from fossil fuels.
- 12:12Everything has to be mined, refined, processed.
- 12:16If you want to read about it further, please look at my book that I co-authored with uh Ron Ronald Stein called Clean Energy Exploitations.
- 12:25Go read about it.
- 12:26Look at it.
- 12:27You'll see.
- 12:29Again, renewables are dead.
- 12:34Um it almost surrounds you in some way with you know the back Baghdad Bob uh type of journalism type of policy making where you thought the Iraq war was just going great, and then all of a sudden you realize all hell broke loose.
- 12:49But you you keep on a smiley happy face, or what you refer to as gaslighting now without really reporting the truth.
- 12:56What I would tell anyone about renewables is the technology simply isn't there.
- 13:01Um certainly uh energy battery storage systems are not there.
- 13:06I'll put a link up to a report that was done recently by Mark P.
- 13:09Mills talking about the staggering amounts of materials it makes to build a battery energy storage system at grid scale.
- 13:18Myself, I've done a value chain report on it.
- 13:21And what I can tell you, it is tens of thousands of tons of rare earth metals and minerals.
- 13:2795% of all batteries are backed by lithium, which can combust at a moment's notice.
- 13:33But more importantly, lithium cannot hold a charge more than more than four hours, has severe degradation issues.
- 13:41And if you have any kind of extreme heat or cold, the ability of the battery to even hold four hours of electricity goes down.
- 13:50So imagine I'm gonna back up an entire renewable system or a country like the United States that uses terawatts of um electricity, terawatts is billions of gigawatts of power, and I'm gonna back it all up with batteries.
- 14:06I wrote in one of my books that even if Britain were to try to do this, they would use all the copper in the world that's currently mined.
- 14:15Why don't you put that in the context?
- 14:17If one country said I'm going to go full renewables, full batteries, you would use all the copper in the world mined.
- 14:25There are studies uh where people will tell you.
- 14:30If you really looked up and said, okay, we're going to use full renewables.
- 14:34Let's say the United States, some people say, Oh, we'll take up a couple of states, you know.
- 14:41Others will tell you, and I would agree with them, half of the United States would need to be blanketed.
- 14:46At least 25% for sure, would need to be blanketed with wind turbines and solar panels.
- 14:53Remember, these things degradate quickly.
- 14:56You're not getting more than 20 years out of them.
- 14:59So tell me where you're all you're going to mine all the rare earth metals and minerals.
- 15:03You're not.
- 15:04That's why this is always some globalist dream, some fantasy for control.
- 15:10And that's why renewables to me always link up with this globalist dream.
- 15:15What they, these people really want uh the Tom Styers, the Michael Bloombergs, the George Soruses, the Neville Singhams, the Tides Foundation, um, the Rockefeller Foundation, the Ford Foundation, uh, the Stanford University Endowment, the same with Harvard.
- 15:31These people want you to bow down to them.
- 15:34They want to take away your energy, take away your electricity, blame it on climate change, they've done it to the Europeans, and go, you're uncontrollably warming the earth.
- 15:43You want to listen to a teenager who has the girl Greta Thunberg is a woman now, very severe psychological and mental issues.
- 15:53Frankly, her parents should be in jail for what they did to her.
- 15:57That young lady needs medical help, probably needs um pharmaceutical help and could use probably some years of really good counseling.
- 16:06You believe all of that, because what these people ultimately want, I would say they they want you to be some form of downtoy, where you're living at their manor and you call them Lord, and you're just happy to have a little cottage farming a little bit of the land, and you just serve them at their beck and call.
- 16:26I mean, it's not unlike the Babylonian Empire, the Persian Empire, the Assyrian Empire, or the Roman Empire, where people thought of themselves as gods and lords, and they were to be worshipped.
- 16:38Renewables are dead.
- 16:40They kill everything in their sight.
- 16:43That's why the U.S.
- 16:44Democratic Party, Greens, and these godless billionaires who support all this, who need to go into the dustbin of history, the sooner most of these people die, the better.
- 16:57The world will be a better place because what they see, they see Marxism and go, we can manipulate it and gain more market share.
- 17:04We can get rid of our competition.
- 17:06We can crush society, we can cause chaos, and the only people left standing are us.
- 17:13And then you'll beg us for a cup, a what cup of rice and uh and a mouthful of water.
- 17:18You will call us gods and lords, or you will starve to death.
- 17:23Renewables are dead.
- 17:28I also want to continue along this context with this.
- 17:34This is, I'm gonna give you the latest report.
- 17:36I uh I highly recommend the intelligence report from oilprice.com.
- 17:42They can do some stupid things.
- 17:43They can go all in on renewables and question nuclear power.
- 17:47They like to pretend to net zeros and energy transitions, but for the most part, they do a pretty good job of reporting what's really going on.
- 17:56Um, I want you to listen to this about when I say renewables are dead, I'll add a uh qualifier to that.
- 18:03Long live fossil fuels.
- 18:06First, first item.
- 18:08The EU buckles under U.S.
- 18:10and Qatari pressure.
- 18:11The European Union agreed to scale back its corporate sustainability laws, which is called uh scope three emissions, because they believe in global warming, climate change.
- 18:20They tell companies all the way down to the third parts of your supply chain, tell us how many emissions they are.
- 18:25We're so worried about the air, but of course, we keep burning the worst firm, the worst forms of coal in uh Germany, and we continue the Ukraine war, which is blowing people to hell, not really that good for the environment, also.
- 18:41Uh the European Union agreed to scale back its corporate sustainability laws after both the United States and Qatar threatened to halt energy exports in case it's CSDD rules, aren't ease.
- 18:55However, U.S.
- 18:56firms have complained the chart, the changes didn't go far enough.
- 19:01In other words, you pull that on us, we're not going to sell you liquefied natural gas, and we know if we don't sell it to you, you're going to freeze to death because you're no longer getting cheap Russian oil because you blew up um Nord Stream 2, you turned off Nord Stream 1, and the Russians have just now given all of that gas to the Chinese, the Indians, and used it internally to further fuel their own military industrial complex to continue killing Ukrainians, taking over that country.
- 19:30And again, the Ukraine war is lost and renewables are dead.
- 19:35Let's continue down this global warming, climate change, renewables are how we're going to run our societies.
- 19:42G7 companies and the European Union are trying to get rid of the price caps that they put on Russian oil exports.
- 19:50Oh, by the way, um, it's been reported that the European Union has upped its imports of Russian gas again.
- 19:56Again, if you do not have energy.
- 20:00The very people supposedly are your enemy.
- 20:03You are a vassal to them.
- 20:05You are a vassal.
- 20:09Let me tell you what else is real troubling.
- 20:12Chinese oil imports continue to soar.
- 20:15Go look at what the Chinese are doing right now as far as their earth, metals and minerals, coal, um, heating oils, natural gas liquids, oil.
- 20:26Sure seems like they're preparing for a war.
- 20:30And people say all the time, but they lead the world in renewables.
- 20:33They've done all this pledge.
- 20:35If they've done this pledge, and if you're that stupid, or that uninformed, or you want to stick your head in the sand, or you want to pretend what's going on, why did Chinese crude oil imports soar their highest since August of 23 last month?
- 20:50India.
- 20:52India's state-owned refiners have ramped up their purchases of Russian crude with Indian Oil Corporation and Barad Petroleum buying up, buying up to 10 January rival cargoes last week.
- 21:04Uh that's like roughly like December 3rd, the week of December 2nd and 3rd.
- 21:10Um they they're benefiting from lower deliverable prices.
- 21:13Uh, Urals now trade about six dollars per barrel below Brent.
- 21:18Brazil, one of the BRICS nations.
- 21:21They're now uh booming.
- 21:24Uh their oil uh exploration.
- 21:28Okay.
- 21:29Does anybody hear anything about uh renewables here?
- 21:32Uh Libya prepares for tea gas wildcat.
- 21:35Uh India's coal romance.
- 21:38India is now considering a major expansion in coal power capacity, plans to build new plants until at least 2047.
- 21:46One of my books has a document that says it's actually 2060.
- 21:51Um Delhi, the capital of India, you sometimes know it is New Delhi, they refer to it as Delhi, is talking about adding 420 gigawatts of new capacity, an 87% increase from now.
- 22:04But what you will hear, Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, Derrick Spiegel, The Guardian, which is the worst.
- 22:12The economists, the Atlantic is, my God, India's gonna do green hydrogen and renewables.
- 22:18China leads the world in renewables.
- 22:21That is a sucker's bet to placate foolish Westerners in the United Nations, the EU, most of Washington, DC, and other fools who believe that they're gonna lead the world in renewables.
- 22:36Nothing could be farther from the truth.
- 22:40But oh boy, good for Great Britain, their own drillers, uh, Shell and Equator, uh, are struggling because there's a 78% tax on them.
- 22:54Does anybody hear me?
- 22:56Does anybody see that there's any way on God's green earth that renewables are going to do anything for these people?
- 23:04No.
- 23:04But then we foolishly get a U.S.
- 23:06court rejecting Trump's wind energy ban.
- 23:09Um I've done a report for the National Science Foundation on wind, and maybe the technology will be there one day, but I found literally almost 60 reasons you would never want to use offshore or onshore wind.
- 23:23One of these days I need to write that up.
- 23:2560 reasons.
- 23:26But a U.S.
- 23:28district judge, these district judges.
- 23:31Folks, man, you can hate a Republican all you want, and I'm sure as hell not telling you they're perfect.
- 23:37But the U.S.
- 23:38Democratic Party has the party I grew up with has lost its way.
- 23:42And these judges go to these godless law schools, and they just hate Trump.
- 23:47What they do is they hate Trump because they hate Republicans because they have some Marxist fantasy in their head.
- 23:53And I would actually argue that ultimately they hate Jesus Christ.
- 23:56They hate religion, they hate families, and they have this dream that they're gonna live in a utopia of their own making of renewables and no car cities and no more meat, and we're all gonna see we're all gonna live in this fantasy utopia that doesn't exist.
- 24:17And you think the wind, offshore wind in particular, the same people that tell you hurricanes are intensifying and there's more of them, and the weather is worse, but you're gonna do energy systems that are based upon the weather being worse, and solar panels can only take so much heat.
- 24:36So if it's getting hotter, why would you use something that has a hard time turning more of the sun and more heat into um energy into electricity?
- 24:45Why are you gonna do something if you believe there's more hurricanes?
- 24:49You believe the oceans getting warmer.
- 24:52Won't that hurt offshore wind turbines?
- 24:54Won't hostile what's referred to as a hostile marine environment?
- 24:58None of it makes sense.
- 25:00Yet here you are.
- 25:02Here you are.
- 25:04Here you are.
- 25:06Renewables are dead.
- 25:09They don't work.
- 25:12They've never worked, they never will work under current technological constraints.
- 25:19They will not work.
- 25:23Anything that I just said, did any of this talk about renewables?
- 25:28Did people always say they're the cheapest thing going?
- 25:31No, they're not.
- 25:32Get rid of the subsidies like you have with EVs, watch what happens.
- 25:36Um count the what's called the total system cost, the full cost of electricity.
- 25:42There's not a renewable system around that is not backed up by a nuclear power plant or what's or um what's called spinning reserves or peaker plants.
- 25:52Essentially, it's natural gas fired or coal-fired plants or even oil.
- 25:57Oil is still burned in the northeast right now for electricity.
- 26:01Those plants are on demand, ready to go.
- 26:05There's various terms for them, peakers, spinning reserves.
- 26:08Think of it this way.
- 26:10When you use renewables, you have to build an entirely new system to back it up.
- 26:17Please don't pretend that you're helping the environment.
- 26:20You're not.
- 26:20They're actually worse for the environment.
- 26:22They're worse for the land, they're worse for the value of land, they're worse for people.
- 26:27Um you cannot discard them, you cannot recycle them profitably, and hardly anyone is doing it.
- 26:36Um, and go look at the mining, the refining and the processing of all the rare earth metals and minerals, which are being done by China or in the lithium triangle down in South America, or what's done to small children in uh the Congo for cobalt.
- 26:54Just go read the Amnesty International Report on this.
- 26:57It's it's horrifying.
- 26:59My own book, Clean Energy Exploitations.
- 27:01It's it's horrifying.
- 27:04Horrifying how these folks live.
- 27:07Here's one dude coming back.
- 27:09I'm gonna systematically just kind of take us down of what's going on with um with renewables.
- 27:19The great Tylach Doshi has done it again and wrote an article on renewables.
- 27:24Um if someone knows Mr.
- 27:27Dashi or Mr.
- 27:28Doshi, please let them know what a fan of his I am and the incredible work this man is doing right now.
- 27:33He is a he's a real treasure.
- 27:37And I would say the world is very lucky to have this man right now.
- 27:42Uh I want to come back with a with a recent article he just did, which just so breaks down renewables, and it's so good.
- 27:50I just want to read, I literally, I just want to read it.
- 27:53So this is Todd Royal.
- 27:56Uh, this is geopower, energy in real politics, and we will be right back for our second half where we're gonna lead off with uh Ty Doshi's article on renewables and just the devastating facts that he gives.
- 28:11Oral hygiene hasn't changed in 50 years.
- 28:14Brush, floss, repeat.
- 28:16We're told to use fluoride, which doesn't really address the acid creating bacteria.
- 28:22That is where the dentist recommended spray dental defense system shines.
- 28:27Spray products contain xylitol, a natural sugar, which helps get rid of those nasty, smelly acid-creating bacteria in our mouth.
- 28:36The best way to care for your teeth and gums is by using spray.
- 28:40The spray dental defense system has a wide variety of products, toothpaste, mouthwash, mints, and chewing gums that are designed to work together to keep your teeth clean and mouth healthy and smelling sweet all day long to get your oral care back on track in an easy, effective, and very tasty way.
- 28:59Switch to spray today.
- 29:01Ask your dentist about xylitol and the spray products.

- 33:05We are back.
- 33:07This is Todd Royal, the host of Geopower, Energy and Real Politics.
- 33:13On December 6th, Tali Gdashi wrote an article called Time to Stop Pretending Renewables Are Cheap.
- 33:20Or let's just say it again, renewables are dead.
- 33:23I'm going to take you through this.
- 33:25I've got you for about the next 23 minutes, and let's kind of go through what he refers to as tropes.
- 33:31The first one is this voices who say we're going to have an energy transition.
- 33:37Experts like Michael Mann, who's been discredited, Bill McKibben.
- 33:42And Bill's got some great books.
- 33:44Um, but his understanding of renewables and energy, he lives in such a fantasy land.
- 33:51I would love to meet the man one day because he's got some other books which are just just fabulous.
- 33:56Um they say, you know, cheap solar and wind energy, which I just talked about the previous um first half of the show.
- 34:05This has all been debunked.
- 34:07It's truly magical thinking.
- 34:09Um, if you understand physics and economics, which um I'm gonna assume this audience does.
- 34:15As I said, when you look at this, when you look at a capacity factor for these things, which run about 25% of the time compared to like let's say 95% of the nuclear power plant.
- 34:26When you look at all the land it needs, all the materials it needs, it's not even on most of the time.
- 34:32Uh, then I've got to build an entirely backup uh system for it, then I have to look at all uh have a geopolitical enemy who hates my guts in China where all the rare earth metals and minerals come from that have to be refined and processed.
- 34:45Oh, I'd tell you also in that regard, go look at how much energy it takes to do uh uh silicus uh a solar PV solar panel.
- 34:54We're gonna take silica, turn it into polysilicone.
- 34:56It's one of the most energy intensive processes that you can do, and it's done by the Chinese and it's done by coal.
- 35:03There's no way whether either people like Michael Mann and Bill McKibben either they refuse to see the truth or they don't want to see the truth.
- 35:14Uh, this other with green ideologies, you get this thing called primary energy fallacy.
- 35:20Um, advocates for wind and solar, such as Dr.
- 35:22Jan Rosen Isle, Senior Research Associate at Oxford and Cambridge Universities argues that these traditional metrics of primary energy consumption, meaning you measure the raw energy extracted from nature before conversion, that's it.
- 35:37But what it does is it underestimates the contributions of renewables.
- 35:41Um fossil fuels, coal and gas do lose much of their energy as waste heat during electricity generation.
- 35:49And yeah, solar panels and wind turbines deliver electricity with near perfect efficiency.
- 35:55Thus the argument goes, hey, primary energy basis.
- 35:59Man, you're you're you're not looking at how efficient these things are.
- 36:03Uh, these efficient low carbon technologies, hey, look at fossil fuels, you're very inefficient.
- 36:09What's always funny though, too, they never include nuclear.
- 36:11Um look at what a piece of uranium does.
- 36:15Um, so then you're saying, hey, renewables, you're not intermittent.
- 36:19Man, look how look how efficient you are.
- 36:24Um if you look at the analysis of energy literacy by people like Lars uh Shirknikal and Ronald Stein, my co-author of three books that we've done.
- 36:39Just go look into their work.
- 36:40The distortion relies in you ignore the full system level cost that I just described and the inefficiencies of wind and solar being intermittent, not you'll hear people go, well, the marginal cost is nothing.
- 36:54Yes, it's very efficient.
- 36:55Man, the wind and the sun's going in there.
- 36:57There's zero cost for the fuel.
- 36:59Now let's look at everything else.
- 37:02Um you get out of this the this progressive green ideologue of the primary energy fallacy.
- 37:10What you show it's the harsh realities of intermittency, resource intensity, and the escalating costs that plague the push for renewables.
- 37:20Any country that's using renewables wholeheartedly, Denmark, Britain, Germany, big chunks of the EU, uh, California, New York.
- 37:31Look at what they're doing.
- 37:32They're not meeting anything.
- 37:34They're not decarbonizing net zero anything, and their electricity costs are killing their economies.
- 37:41Do you does anybody think that California can compete with Texas right now?
- 37:45Does anybody think that Great Britain or Germany can compete with German, can compete with China, even Iran?
- 37:52No, you can't.
- 37:55Your costs are high, you refuse to drill for anything, you're wary of nuclear, and you think you're going to do it with the wind and the sun.
- 38:02Absolutely not.
- 38:04Um energy affordability and reliability are paramount.
- 38:11Particularly for developing countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
- 38:15Um primary energy, it okay.
- 38:20Let me tell you what uh Tyler says in this primary energy is defined by institutions like the IEA, the International Energy Agency, Biddish British Petroleum in their annual statistic statistical reviews, tallies the unprocessed energy from sources such as coal, oil, gas, uranium, wind, and sunlight.
- 38:37It relates to the total energy content of natural resources before any conversion processes take place.
- 38:44When converted to electricity, thermal sources like coal-fired plants operated efficiencies are around 35 to 40 percent.
- 38:51Combined cycle gas turbines reach up to 30, the rest dissipate some heat.
- 38:56In contrast, wind and solar convert their primary inputs, kinetic wind or solar, pardon me, kinetic wind energy or solar irrigates directly into electricity with minimal thermal losses.
- 39:08They approach 100% in accounting terms.
- 39:12Um here's the problem.
- 39:17When you do that, again, it seems that renewables win.
- 39:21Yet this comparison is myopic.
- 39:24Confined as it is to just electricity, which accounts for just 20% of global faunal energy consumption.
- 39:31The bulk of energy use, some 80%, and I credit Ron Ron Stein talks about this all the time.
- 39:37Occurs in non-electric forms.
- 39:40Industrial heat for steel making, cement production, gas for cooking and home heating, petroleum for transportation, and petrochemicals for everything from fertilizers to plastics.
- 39:51Here, fossil fuels not they often deliver energy services with far higher efficiencies than the pro renewable narrative admits.
- 40:00Combustion of gas for heating, for instance, achieves 80%, 80 to 90% efficiency, dwarfing the loss in electricity generation.
- 40:09A nuclear power plant for electricity runs upwards of 95% of the time.
- 40:16That alone, just if I could decarbonize or net zero the entire world if you want nuclear, and we have plenty of uranium.
- 40:25Uranium is God's gift to mankind.
- 40:28If aliens came down, and I'm using a quote from Doomberg, if aliens came down to this planet right now, they would look at us and wonder why are your landscapes not dotted with the industrial cathedrals.
- 40:41Thank you, Emmett Penny for that example.
- 40:43The industrial cathedrals of nuclear power plants.
- 40:48A nuclear power plant can now be the brand new AP 1000, Bogle 3 and 4, running at 95% capacity within its first year.
- 40:56The plant will stay up on stay open at least 60 years.
- 41:01Solar and wind, many times you start replacing things after two years at a 25% capacity factor.
- 41:08And what does that do for a grid that grids have to have 100% power at all times?
- 41:15So I have a backup system to ensure the grid doesn't break down.
- 41:21I wouldn't just say it's myopic or a fallacy.
- 41:24I would say it's dangerous and will and will kill people.
- 41:31If you want to electric, if you want to let me electrify everything, primary energy, that's how you measure something.
- 41:41Oh my gosh, I mean, you fossil fuels extend far beyond energy provision just for modern civilization.
- 41:47Again, Ronald Stein and myself in our book Clean Energy Exploitations.
- 41:52We we talk about this that oil and gas are the foundational feedstocks of over 6,000 products that underpin human progress from plastics and cosmetics to pharmaceuticals and ammonia for fertilizers.
- 42:05Go look up the article, big oil to the rescue.
- 42:10Whenever COVID was called the coronavirus, that vaccines, you would never have a vaccine without a barrel of oil.
- 42:18It's actually stunning.
- 42:23Then let's talk about all the materials that they're going to need.
- 42:27Materials alone cannot replicate a renewable can't replicate anything.
- 42:33If you do not have a complex carbohydrate, you don't have a medical device.
- 42:37You don't have electronics, you don't have agricultural inputs.
- 42:41The Haverbosch process for fertilizer, you have to have natural gas.
- 42:47Without fossil fuel derived ammonia, global food production would plummet.
- 42:51Half the planet would die.
- 42:53See, that's what you have to understand about these people.
- 42:56That's what you have to understand about this supposed PhD or people like Mark Sanford, who advocate for renewables out of Stanford or Bill McKibben or Michael Mann or Tom Steyr, George Soros, the Tides Foundation, or Neville Singham or the Ford Foundation or Rockefeller Foundation, they want you to die.
- 43:15Make no mistake.
- 43:17These people hate your guts and want you to die.
- 43:20I would actually argue an environmentalist is a bigger threat to you than Vladimir Putin or the Chinese Communist Party.
- 43:27And the Chinese Communist Party is the greatest uh mafia ring the world has ever seen.
- 43:32La Costa Nostra and the movie The Godfather and China, you know, any Mexican cartel or any gang out of Venezuela or Jamaican gangs or Jewish gangs, whatever gang you want to say, they can learn how to run a uh run a true gang empire like the Chinese Communist Party.
- 43:51I would argue Tom Steyr is a bigger threat to humanity than the Chinese Communist Party is because he because he's the worst kind of person because they they say one thing and do another thing.
- 44:04Go look at how Tom Steyer made his money.
- 44:07Go look at how Neville Singham made his money off software.
- 44:10Go look at what George Soros has done.
- 44:13And now his son.
- 44:17I'm not saying I want to go live in Russia or be uh governed by Vladimir Putin, but I'd argue George Soros is a bigger threat than Vladimir Putin.
- 44:26It's a big statement.
- 44:28I'd I'd argue that the 200 environmental organizations that said do not no longer do data center build outside.
- 44:34Those people are much bigger threats than the BRICS nations.
- 44:40If it were me, I'd go to China right now and say, what will it take for you to buy American natural gas?
- 44:46I'd give it away to them.
- 44:49If you really want to solve this trade war, if you really want to solve the pending war with China, get them hooked on American energy.
- 44:58The US Seventh Fleet should no longer be protecting Taiwan.
- 45:01It should be protecting oil and natural gas tankers and that are going from the United States to China as fast as they can get there.
- 45:11Build the world's greatest pipeline under this under the ocean that starts at the Permian Basin, goes over California and goes straight into the Pacific all the way over to China, Japan, the rest of them.
- 45:25We have enough oil and natural gas.
- 45:28We started drilling for every single thing, uh, whether the Monterey Shell in California, possibly the Rockies, uh up and down each coast.
- 45:37If you want to solve these global problems, you really want to do it.
- 45:42I can end the Ukraine war by undercutting Russia with American hydrocarbons, undercutting the Russians in India, and now the and now the Russians have a real hard time funding that war machine of theirs.
- 45:56Renewables are dead.
- 45:59They're dead.
- 46:01Renewables cannot give you petrochemicals, which are derived from crude oil, which gives sterile packaging for vaccines.
- 46:08Uh the funny part is that all the materials for a wind turbine blade, which is frankly ironic, come from petrochemicals, uh synthetic fibers and clothing.
- 46:19Um the molecular molecular building blocks from fossil fuels, you you you can't, everything comes from it.
- 46:30Nothing.
- 46:32Um, this efficiency boast when you consider again just the intermittentcy of wind and solar.
- 46:39Typical capacity factor, that means how long is this thing actually uh working?
- 46:44Capacity factors is about 15 to 40 percent for wind, about 10 to 25 percent solar compared to 80 to 90 percent for baseload coal or nuclear.
- 46:53Remember, a nuclear power plant, and there's some power plants now they'll tell it, they will work 97 to 97, 97 to 99% of the time.
- 47:04But yet I have to have a dispatchable backup power plant, spinning reserve, peaker, dispatchable is just a fancy way of saying, hey, this thing can come on and off unless at a moment's notice at all times.
- 47:17Uh, as Mr.
- 47:18Doshi says, this is tantamount to paying twice for the same thing.
- 47:23Yet you're gonna tell me you're more efficient.
- 47:26That's a that's a that's a child.
- 47:28Um I want to get back briefly here to Germany, because boy, they are the poster child for the energy transition.
- 47:39It is called Ing Inner Gangwendy.
- 47:42So anybody who knows German, please correct me.
- 47:44Uh, it is E-N-E-R-G-I-E-W-E-N-D-E.
- 47:48So wind and solar now comprise over 50% of installed capacity in that country.
- 47:54They are truly deindustrializing.
- 47:57Once the home of Volvo and BSF is now over.
- 48:02They've killed their country in the name of global warming and climate change that doesn't exist.
- 48:09That's what I'm telling you.
- 48:10You think the Chinese and the Russians and even the Iranians are the great threat to the world.
- 48:15No, no, no, no, no.
- 48:16It is a green ideologue.
- 48:18A green ideologue is a hell of a bigger threat than the Chinese Communist Party because they're not going to kill themselves.
- 48:24They may ruin their environment with uh coal-fired power plants every there, everywhere, but make no mistake, they're not going to kill their country.
- 48:31And they're not going to willingly um kill their people at the altar of the Church of Climate Alarm.
- 48:39Thank you, uh, many folks have the you know, the Church of Carbon from Duneberg, the church of, I think it's a church of climate or the church of climate alarm.
- 48:48Um future guest who we're we're gonna we're gonna have here on the show that oh, he says it just so well.
- 48:59Um he's just fantastic when he when he talks about it.
- 49:02It's David Blackman.
- 49:04So shout out to David Blackman for the um the church, the the Church of Climate Alarm, it's unbelievable to me.
- 49:13So when you look at all this, listen to this.
- 49:17In Germany, this poster child, so 50% of installed capacity, the country yet has to maintain and even expand coal and gas-fired plants as backup.
- 49:26These backups operate at low utilization rates, burning fuel inefficiently, and inflating primary energy use.
- 49:34Grid scale battery storage, which I'll uh put a link to in the show right up to show how ridiculous these are, that are often touted as the solution to intermittency remains prohibitively expensive and resource intensive.
- 49:50Even Tesla's mega packs can provide mere minutes or hours of backup for utility scale needs and scaling to days or weeks during periods of what's called a dunker.
- 50:00Flight.
- 50:00I mean, there's no wind for weeks at a time, would require astronomical investments in rare earths and minerals, much of it controlled by China.
- 50:09Germany and fellow energy suicide countries such as the UK and states like California now boast among the world's highest electricity prices.
- 50:20CherneCal's system level analysis exposes the core deception, along with Ron Stein.
- 50:26While individual wind turbines or solar panels may appear efficient, their integration into a reliable grid erodes that advantage.
- 50:35To achieve dispatchable power, meaning I can turn this thing on or off.
- 50:40Electricity available 24-7, 35 365 with stable voltage, frequency, inertia, pardon me, and phase, renewables necessitate overbuilding by factors of three to five times or more.
- 50:56Plus ancillary, uh ancillary and auxiliary systems like short duration batteries and upgraded transmission lines.
- 51:03We haven't even gotten into how many transmission lines you're going to need for all of this, along with an up with a grid that can handle uh deep, deep, deep, deep uh inefficiencies.
- 51:14Um when you do, when you put all of this together, so these additions now uh consume vast amounts of primary energy in mining and manufacturing.
- 51:27That's never accounted for.
- 51:29For example, producing one terawatt of lifetime electricity from solar requires 340 to 560 kilotons of steel plus copper and rare earths compared to just one to two kilotons of steel for coal or gas.
- 51:44Wind fares a little better, demanding 30 to 50 kilotons of steel and three to six kilotons of copper per terawatt.
- 51:51Mining these materials is not done by renewables, it's done by diesel, fossil fuels.
- 51:56It's energy intensive, it's predominantly powered by trucks and mining equipment powered by again fossil fuels, embedding hidden primary energy costs that the IEAs, the International Energy Agency's partial substitution method conveniently ignores by assuming near 100% efficiency for renewables.
- 52:21That's not even getting to as well.
- 52:23The energy return on investment, a metric that measures how much usable energy a source delivers relative to the energy invested in its extraction, processing, and deployment.
- 52:34At the system level, wind and solar's uh EROI plummets to five to 10 to 1 for solar and from 10 to 20 to one for wind, even lower with battery storage, versus 25 to 30 to 1 for coal and gas and over 75 to 1 for nuclear.
- 52:55Remember too.
- 52:57Wind only lasts 10 to 20 years, 12 to 15 for solar, as opposed to fossil fuels at 40 to 60 for coal and gas, 60 to 100 for um for nuclear.
- 53:12We're nearing our end of our show, so I wanted to give you just a few more, a few more items for us to think about on the renewables is dead.
- 53:22And here's what I mean.
- 53:23Uh, you also have to remember too with renewables that as they penetrate a grid more, the additional kilowatts diminish.
- 53:31They don't deliver more energy, which leads to higher energy cost.
- 53:35Um they're not efficient.
- 53:38Same thing like with an EV, it's not efficient.
- 53:40An EV has to use 12 to 16 times more minerals overall than anything else does.
- 53:48Same thing with renewables.
- 53:49Need a hundred times, some people tell you 700 times more land.
- 53:54Uh solar farms, they they actually offer so much less power compared to the amount of land a coal plant needs, natural gas needs, or nuclear needs versus renewables.
- 54:08Um, you have to look at two that they just they destroy habitats.
- 54:12Uh China as well dominates 80% of rare earth processing.
- 54:17Uh, they dominate the global production of wind and solar energy components.
- 54:21When you actually look at the full cost of electricity, which includes intermittency, grid integration, it reveals that renewables are far costlier than what I'd refer to as the misleading levelized cost of electricity.
- 54:34Um, Germany, as I said, spent over 500 billion dollars.
- 54:38Uh they don't have hardly any emissions reductions anymore, and they still have coal, the dirtiest forms of coal because they need it to be reliable.
- 54:47Uh, this is as obviously Asia, India, China just continue to uh expand uh their coal, their coal fleet.
- 54:54What this really tells you in this whole primary energy fallacy, it's a fallacy.
- 54:59You have to look at the total, what it total, the totality of something.
- 55:05Um, what you're really getting is an unpopular truth, energy physics and economics.
- 55:11You these are ideologues, uh, these primary energy metrics.
- 55:16When you look at everything, you you're gonna see people like the global south, they're never gonna use renewables.
- 55:22Um use coal, you can put pollution limiting limiting uh filters on coal.
- 55:29There is things called you know high energy, you know, uh high efficiency, high energy um for coal plants.
- 55:39What you're really seeing here, it's decades, and I love how he says this.
- 55:45Decades of delusion and fanaticism over man-made climate crises predicted by junk science models collide with reality.
- 55:56It's ridiculous.
- 55:58What you really should do is listen to people like Schernakau and Stein, stop chasing luxury beliefs that are a delusion and a fantasy for people who only want to control you and have you call them gods and lords.
- 56:12Umreaucrats who know nothing in places like London and renewable ideologues, but the burden of irrational energy policies will be borne by the world's uh course.
- 56:27Best pathword, have pragmatic technology neutral approaches, use nuclear power for electricity.
- 56:36You will continue to use oil for feedstocks and transportation until you can convert it to natural gas.
- 56:42And if you want to stop these wars, use energy as the soft energy uh component of what's referred to as soft power.
- 56:50I can end the Ukraine war.
- 56:52You can end these things with China.
- 56:54You can bring India back into the fold.
- 56:57You can live in peace and prosperity because energy is everything.
- 57:02This is Todd Royal.
- 57:04I'm the host of Geopower, Energy and Real Politics.
- 57:08And today's very important episode, I'd leave you with this.
- 57:11Renewables are dead.
- 57:13Thank you and God bless you.
