- 0:16be. Please be advised we do speak with an honest tongue and may not
- 0:20be safe for work. Hello and welcome. This is Casey Hires back at
- 0:26the Millionaire Dentist Podcast in studio with co host Jared Bridgeman. Casey, how
- 0:30are you? You know, I've been sick, like you know, cold
- 0:34sign us really just grumpy. Yeah, So if I sound a little little
- 0:39different, it's I'm on the If you're grumpier than usuals what you're saying.
- 0:43Yeah, yeah, I'm feeling better, feeling strong, but state at a
- 0:46nice hotel and Charlotte and the like the ac at about sixty seven point five
- 0:51degrees. Woke up in the middle of the night and the sucker has been
- 0:54blowing on me all night and I'm hacking already and the damage was done.
- 0:57So my megadosing of resupplement known demand shortened it. But it's been a good
- 1:03How was your trip to Charlotte by the way, you're there and speaking to
- 1:07h to a nice group of practice owners. Yeah, venue was great.
- 1:10Practice owners were awesome. People came in from from far distances. They were
- 1:15dialed into the subject matter. They get it. They get it. That
- 1:18being a practice owners tough. And this is for our events that we actually
- 1:22go around the country and host ourselves. And this would be the Bourbon and
- 1:26real Financial Advice for Dentists event. You're doing lots of these over the past
- 1:32couple of years. Right now, we've got a couple of really fun ones
- 1:34coming up in Chicago and Orlando. Well, I like doing our events.
- 1:38We don't have to tiptoe around anything, right, you just just get after
- 1:41it. Uh, you know when we go to state meetings or regional meetings
- 1:46or dental societies where guests in their things, so we have to act appropriately.
- 1:51But you know, how was the Bourbon I don't even know. I
- 1:53don't even think I tasted it. Yes, the Stag Junior, which is
- 1:57now just called Stag. It grew up beat out angels Envy. Yeah,
- 2:02it beat out angels Envy. Nice, Okay, but yeah it was.
- 2:06It was a good event. Good. I'm glad you guys had a good
- 2:07time out there, Casey today, Well, you know you were doing that.
- 2:12You also went and spoke with a study club as well, and I
- 2:19wanted to talk to you about when you were in both these groups. Do
- 2:23a lot of dentists have a lot of excuses as to why things may not
- 2:27be going the way they hoped they would be. Yeah, the hours of
- 2:30prep that we spent on this wink wink excuses practice owners tell themselves. That
- 2:35was something we kind of wrote down and and yeah, I think that's a
- 2:38trap we can all fall into. But certainly one off conversations, conversations with
- 2:44group, different groups and different geographies, there's a lot of common threads I
- 2:47thought we could talk about today with with that topic, that's awesome right off
- 2:52the top. I wanted to ask you, do you find that there are
- 2:54if you're talking to a group and someone raises their hand kind of gives you
- 2:58an answer. It's a much more generic answer than it is on one on
- 3:00one like, oh, sure, people are more more guarded in the group
- 3:05setting stereotyping, but a lot of mentests are not necessarily confrontational people, very
- 3:12nice people, but yeah, a lot of times they're a little more guarded
- 3:15well, and you know, again getting back into the excuses practice owners tell
- 3:19themselves, it's it's typically around time and money. It costs them both,
- 3:23but times certainly one of those excuses that people like to use. And I
- 3:28can see that. I mean, as you said, everybody can really relate
- 3:31to that on some level. May not be at work, I may be
- 3:34at home. For me, it is something that just happened to me yesterday.
- 3:38As of next week, I have to get a root canal done,
- 3:43my first one ever, and I am not excited for it. And it's
- 3:45something that you know could have been more than likely prevented. But over the
- 3:51past couple of years, I have put it off due to being afraid either
- 3:53of spending the money or spending the time, to be fair, and this
- 3:57is a real fear I have. I'm afraid of being put on and then
- 4:00having my wife drive me home because I don't know what I'm gonna say.
- 4:03That doesn't real fear that I have. Who knows what might come out of
- 4:09my mouth. But really it's just the fear of maybe if I just ignore
- 4:14it for long enough, it'll go on its own. And if it's something
- 4:16that's decaying, something that's rotting. It's never going to go away. It's
- 4:19going to get worse. And now that you said it, everyone once in
- 4:21a while you always said your tooth is hurt, but you'd be like,
- 4:24it'll just go away. You know. If I had gotten this taken care
- 4:27of earlier, it may have just been a filling. So what were you
- 4:30What were your excuses? I'd just get better. I don't want to deal
- 4:31with it. It was it was that, and I was like, that's
- 4:33not really bothering me right now, even though I broke part of the tooth
- 4:36off in a it was a pop Tart's eating healthy. At least the tooth
- 4:46is because it's rout can Alan crown, right, not an implant. Okay,
- 4:48yep. So I mean it's a silver lining there. And I'm really
- 4:51excited for the big reason why it all happened Yesterday's because my jaw hurts quite
- 4:56a bit right now. The pain, Yeah yeah, well, and no
- 5:00doubt that ultimately is what makes people move. That's the catalyst. You feel
- 5:03pain, you went to your dentists, you get referred to an endodontist.
- 5:08Now you're gonna get problem solved. Whila. So many practice owners have pain
- 5:13in their practice or their personal financial situation. But they do just what you
- 5:16did. It'll get better, it'll go away. It's all good. I'll
- 5:20figured out. So some of the excuses all here, we'll be going through
- 5:26some of our talk or getting to know practice owners one on one. Casey,
- 5:30why don't you throw up? Made some of the excuse does you hear
- 5:30from practice owners? A lot of times when we go through our material and
- 5:35this happened recently, you know, well you just you just don't. You
- 5:41just don't understand my practice, or well, because of our geography, we
- 5:45because we live here, all these things are just so different and so unique.
- 5:48And here's the here's the punchline. The majority of times they're not right.
- 5:53You're not a unique special unicorn. There's a fix, you just need
- 5:56to get it fixed. But it's on the low end and the high end.
- 5:59So some people up they're in like a real glitzy glamor ay well or
- 6:00you know, overhead side because we're I was gonna ask you what the difference
- 6:03between high you know, more incommon? Yeah, like and it's well,
- 6:08you know, it's everything is so much more expensive here, my building and
- 6:12all my costs because but then I hear the same excuse. Well, I'm
- 6:15in a poor part of town, so we're more medicaid or more insurance,
- 6:19and there's just nothing we can do, okay, And but but the difference
- 6:24is the thing is that there is something that could be done. They just
- 6:28aren't willing to put in the time or the effort or or find someone who
- 6:31can help them. Now, we'll get around so next week, that's right,
- 6:33that's right again, like by two, we'll get around to it.
- 6:35Next week. It's all gonna work out. It's fine. I'm I'm a
- 6:39young I'm I'm a thirty five year old denist. It's all going to be
- 6:42fine. I'm forty five. You know, I've got some time left.
- 6:45I'm fifty five. I probably need to get serious. I'm sixty. Shit
- 6:47help well, And and it's it's it's a statement that everybody we all laugh
- 6:53about. But it seems like as you get older, time does move faster.
- 6:58I mean, it's it's crazy to me how quickly my kids have aged.
- 7:02I never thought that would be the case. And then you look back
- 7:05and realize, oh, what have I been doing the last six years?
- 7:09Well, well that's very true. You look up and you're much older.
- 7:12But I think another thing a lot of practice owners have told me is like,
- 7:15well, you know, I can always sell my practice in and maybe
- 7:16I work a couple of days a week, or maybe I'm an associate a
- 7:20little bit. So it's almost like they feel like they have this backslide,
- 7:24this this safety net of well, I always could do that when I'm sixty
- 7:29seven or seventy or seven. You don't know if you could do that.
- 7:31I mean, what, depending on how you are, is somebody gonna want
- 7:35to keep you around that long Physically. A lot of times physically people can't
- 7:39do that exactly, and you never know if an accident of some type maker
- 7:45as you've told it before, we had we have a client who had a
- 7:48former partner who was at a Cabacchi grill and got some oil in his eye
- 7:54and could no longer practice. Yeah, and that's a freak accident, but
- 7:57things like that could happen. Yeah, no doubt. Other things I hears.
- 8:01I'm doing pretty good. You know, I'm doing better than I thought.
- 8:05You know, again, you just don't understand I'll be okay, I
- 8:09can do it tomorrow. Everything. It's a lot of excuses. Where again,
- 8:13the top one percent of dentists who get this right, they either demand
- 8:18it from their current team or find a team that can do it. But
- 8:20from our perspective, you know, our clients have a team to master this
- 8:22for them so they don't have to use their excuses anymore. But even talking
- 8:26to them on the back end of working with us for three, five,
- 8:28ten years, they'll kind of laugh at it. And like, you know,
- 8:31I remember talking to you the first couple of times, and I was
- 8:35very cynical and very you know, I, well everybody is, you know,
- 8:41like people. Some people will tell me that and I just laugh.
- 8:43I already know that. Well, and these these these fears are this kind
- 8:48of popped into my head. As you said, a lot of the times
- 8:50dentists aren't confrontational. It's a fear of confronting it. A fear of confronting.
- 8:54I guess your own fears, afraid of seeing, oh it's okay,
- 8:58I'm doing okay for now out or whatever. But then when you actually dive
- 9:01into the numbers wherever the case is, realizing oh there's some potentially something much
- 9:05worse as the word of the problem. Your hygiene department is not cutting the
- 9:11mustard, your income is half of what it should be. You have three
- 9:15too many insurances? Is it? The whole mentality of ignorance is bliss Oh?
- 9:18Man, I think there might be some truth to that. Like now
- 9:22I'm on the counter argument, right, But man, there's a lot of
- 9:24things in life where I look back and I was like, man, I
- 9:28think ignorance might be blissed when I didn't have a clue about some of this
- 9:30stuff, like you know, the joy of a child. I mean,
- 9:31there's something to it. But the older a practice owner gets, the more
- 9:35responsibilities they get, the more their neck hurts at night. And when ignorance,
- 9:41if the ignorance you're doing is actually causing real pain, that's a different
- 9:45story. Again. My ignorance, in my belief that I could just hold
- 9:48off on this tooth, Now I'm in actual pain, like physical pain,
- 9:52not just my wallet hurts. The chickens come home to roost. If you're
- 9:56a practice owner out there and you're making three fifty and you know you should
- 10:01be making five or six hundred, again, you know it in a pity
- 10:05of your stomach. Yeah, and eventually again the chickens come home the roost.
- 10:09But can't these can't these Dennis just asked our boss for a raise,
- 10:13right right. They wish they could do with their assistance and hygienis are doing
- 10:18to them right now. That tail is wagging the dog. But you know
- 10:22it's it's we love talking to practice owners. We love presenting this stuff.
- 10:26And so many of them, they know, they come up and they go
- 10:31Casey or the team or whoever's they are, they go while you guys hit
- 10:35on a lot in this hour. Clearly you understand what we go through and
- 10:39the only reason we do is because we have solved that for twenty years this
- 10:43march. But they just the looks are different. It's like, all right,
- 10:46this is the real deal. Do you think you guys can help?
- 10:50Which I look at them and go, I don't know. We're not talking
- 10:52about working together. We're talking about engaging in a process. But we can
- 10:56engage in this process and as part of that things will be uncovered. Oh
- 11:00you'll learn something even if we don't work together. But you know, it
- 11:03all comes down to time and money, and unfortunately we all have excuses.
- 11:05You know, I'm I'm pissy yesterday and today because I'm well, I'm sick.
- 11:11Guys, I'm in a bad mood because I'm sick. Well, it's
- 11:13true, but I can also potentially not use that as an excuse and it
- 11:18just not be pissy. We're not saying anything that anybody out there doesn't already
- 11:22know. But confronting all that stuff so important, you know, listen,
- 11:26it's it's less stressful, less painful, and you can have a little bit
- 11:31more courage if you have someone there with you to help you rip that bandit
- 11:35off. And look at what's there? Who those analogies, Yeah, let's
- 11:41pick them all together. Yeah, the two in the bushes, one in
- 11:43the hand. What is it? I'll give you give me I'll give you
- 11:48two hamburgers tomorrow for one hamburger today. Oh, to pay you tuesday for
- 11:52hamburger today. There you go. Yeah, yeah, let's just flush all
- 11:54those excuses down the toilet and get real. And if you want to get
