- 0:46Speaker 1: a we have a loaded show. Later on in the show. Uh.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Four time All Star catcher Paul Laduca new contributor to
- 0:53Speaker 1: the Action Network. Nine year NFL that Jeff Schwartz also
- 0:57Speaker 1: new contributor to the Action Network. They're coming on add
- 1:00Speaker 1: stories this week talking about NFL win totals, Major League
- 1:03Speaker 1: Baseball win totals. Um, we're gonna talk about what happens
- 1:06Speaker 1: to athletes if gambling becomes legal and what they think
- 1:09Speaker 1: of that, what the conversation is in the locker room. Uh.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Last week I was in Vegas. Mike Grunew, producer Extraordinary,
- 1:18Speaker 1: was in Vegas. He went to a club. He made
- 1:21Speaker 1: some very big mistakes. He's going to talk about that
- 1:23Speaker 1: on the podcast. Scutcher I will run down the Sweet
- 1:26Speaker 1: six team. But before we do any of that, Stucky
- 1:29Speaker 1: is on the call and Stuck. He had a story
- 1:33Speaker 1: that we posted yesterday that he's going to explain that
- 1:36Speaker 1: leads to the most classic executive decision necessary uh, that
- 1:42Speaker 1: we've ever had on the Buffet podcast. Stuck, you're there,
- 1:46Speaker 1: take it away, brother. Tell us about the story, which,
- 1:48Speaker 1: by the way, people are like people think it's an
- 1:51Speaker 1: amazing story, or they think it's a it's a tragedy
- 1:56Speaker 1: beyond epic proportions, and you're purporting a myth just to
- 2:00Speaker 1: get page views. Tell us the story. Yeah, the I
- 2:04Speaker 1: love those people that say it's fake. I mean, most
- 2:06Speaker 1: of my followers have been following the story for years.
- 2:08Speaker 1: I've been tweeting about it, like six seven years every
- 2:10Speaker 1: time a sixteen seed played UM. But mainly those people
- 2:15Speaker 1: are the ones that don't follow me and UM. So anyway,
- 2:18Speaker 1: the story goes like this. Back in college, I went
- 2:21Speaker 1: to George Washington University in d C. Back in two
- 2:24Speaker 1: thousand seven. In April, after the tournament, I went to
- 2:28Speaker 1: the bar. We're just to meet a friend who's an
- 2:30Speaker 1: avid gambler like myself. UM, so this isn't just like, hey,
- 2:34Speaker 1: I bet you this, um. And we started talking about
- 2:38Speaker 1: sixteen seeds and we got an argument, and I said,
- 2:41Speaker 1: I think a sixteen seed is gonna win sooner rather
- 2:43Speaker 1: than later. He said, it's never gonna happen. The argument
- 2:47Speaker 1: kept going back and forth, so I said, look, I'll
- 2:48Speaker 1: bet you ten thousand dollars that a sixteen seed win
- 2:53Speaker 1: by the year, and he said, you're on. Now. It
- 2:58Speaker 1: might sound like an aggressive amount for college kids, but
- 3:01Speaker 1: you gotta remember this is like a thirteen year bet.
- 3:04Speaker 1: And we're also avid gamblers. We bet almost every day
- 3:08Speaker 1: all through college. So you know, we kept in touch
- 3:12Speaker 1: for a few years. And actually it was funny because
- 3:16Speaker 1: some people are like, well, it's just a drunk bet. Well, yeah,
- 3:19Speaker 1: we were drinking, but we talked about this all the
- 3:21Speaker 1: time during March. So we graduated, we kept in touch
- 3:25Speaker 1: about it. The first couple of years. Sixteen seats really
- 3:28Speaker 1: never even come close, and then we really lost touch.
- 3:30Speaker 1: I don't even know his number anymore. I haven't talked
- 3:33Speaker 1: to him in six seven years. I don't do the
- 3:35Speaker 1: whole Facebook Instagram thing. I have no idea what he's
- 3:37Speaker 1: up to. So we we really didn't talk about anymore,
- 3:41Speaker 1: but it's something that I still followed, and coming into
- 3:45Speaker 1: this year, I was, you know, I always got I
- 3:47Speaker 1: still got excited. When the sixteen Verse one matchups were revealed.
- 3:50Speaker 1: I said, Wow, Penn has an actual shot, and I
- 3:54Speaker 1: thought this year, more than any it could happen. Well, Penn,
- 3:57Speaker 1: you know, went up double digits but eventually collapsed. And
- 4:00Speaker 1: then you know, the last sixteen one game was UNBC
- 4:05Speaker 1: Virginia and it happened out of nowhere and it happened,
- 4:08Speaker 1: and it was almost anti climatic in a way. So
- 4:12Speaker 1: then I realized, oh, I want my bed. I was like, well,
- 4:16Speaker 1: but I kind of don't know what to do about it,
- 4:19Speaker 1: because what I feel bad, Like how I haven't talked
- 4:21Speaker 1: We've been talking six seven years. Like what do you do?
- 4:24Speaker 1: Do you call him and say, hey, I know I
- 4:26Speaker 1: haven't talked to in six seven years, but do you
- 4:27Speaker 1: have that ten thousand dollars from that bet we made
- 4:29Speaker 1: eleven years ago? Like that's a little messed up. Plus
- 4:33Speaker 1: I don't know where he's at in life, Like I mean,
- 4:35Speaker 1: I took. You know, he was a finance major like myself,
- 4:38Speaker 1: and so if he's on like Wall Street killing it,
- 4:41Speaker 1: I wouldn't feel bad. But you know, if he's struggling
- 4:45Speaker 1: and he just had a kid, I would I would
- 4:46Speaker 1: feel bad. So I don't even know how, you know,
- 4:50Speaker 1: I still haven't even reached out or even tried to.
- 4:52Speaker 1: I gotta. I think I'm just gonna reach out and
- 4:54Speaker 1: be like, hey, I hope all as well, don't worry
- 4:57Speaker 1: about it, and see what he does. Because ultimately, if
- 5:01Speaker 1: I had a you know, if I could simulate in
- 5:04Speaker 1: an a you know, parallel universe, if a sixteen seed
- 5:07Speaker 1: never won and we got the and he reached out
- 5:11Speaker 1: and said, you have that ten thousand, if I knew
- 5:13Speaker 1: he would do that, then I would feel better about
- 5:15Speaker 1: doing it. The other thing is that I if we
- 5:18Speaker 1: actually kept in touch the whole time, I knew when
- 5:21Speaker 1: the bet you know was going to end. This could
- 5:24Speaker 1: have happened at any time, and it did, which makes
- 5:25Speaker 1: me feel worse about it. So yeah, so that that's
- 5:28Speaker 1: kind of the dilemma of the whole story. Um is,
- 5:31Speaker 1: I won, But like I'm like, I don't know how
- 5:33Speaker 1: I'm going to actually collect on this alright, So number one,
- 5:38Speaker 1: do you want to say the guy's name, because there's
- 5:40Speaker 1: a very good chance he follows you on Twitter, he
- 5:43Speaker 1: listens to the podcast, he might be a subscriber to
- 5:46Speaker 1: the Action Network and of Senior Story. Do you want
- 5:49Speaker 1: to say his name because maybe he would reach out
- 5:51Speaker 1: to you, maybe, like if you put it in. My
- 5:53Speaker 1: mom is like very big into karma, right, She's very
- 5:55Speaker 1: big into If you say something out loud, then you
- 6:00Speaker 1: have let the universe know of your intentions and something
- 6:03Speaker 1: may happen. Like my parents are divorced, and my mom,
- 6:07Speaker 1: you know, maybe she's ready to date even though they
- 6:09Speaker 1: got divorced years ago. So she's like this year she said,
- 6:12Speaker 1: I'm ready to date. I'm going to tell the universe
- 6:14Speaker 1: I'm ready to date. And uh, you know, she's hoping that,
- 6:19Speaker 1: you know, someone might call her even though she doesn't
- 6:20Speaker 1: actually meet anybody. That's the kind of thing that I'm
- 6:23Speaker 1: living with. So maybe you want to say, hey, his
- 6:27Speaker 1: name and maybe he'll get reach out to you. Well,
- 6:29Speaker 1: I mean I don't I would rather not give out
- 6:31Speaker 1: as impo, but he would know who I am. He
- 6:33Speaker 1: knows that I'm stucky, and if he read the story.
- 6:35Speaker 1: He would I mean he clearly knew. He would clearly know. Um,
- 6:39Speaker 1: his first name is Brian, I will say that. But
- 6:42Speaker 1: the he would know, and he knows who I am
- 6:44Speaker 1: on Twitter, and I don't think back when I first
- 6:48Speaker 1: started Twitter, I know he didn't have a Twitter. Um
- 6:51Speaker 1: so if he does have a Twitter, I don't know
- 6:52Speaker 1: about it. But he would know as soon as he
- 6:54Speaker 1: saw this story. So yeah, I mean, there's a couple
- 6:56Speaker 1: of things at plays and it wasn't just a like
- 6:58Speaker 1: I get when people say it was a one off thing.
- 7:01Speaker 1: You just said it and then you're supposed to. You know,
- 7:03Speaker 1: if you're in a bar with your buddy and you
- 7:04Speaker 1: say this team is never gonna win the Super Bowl,
- 7:07Speaker 1: I bet you have a hundred thousand dollars, and then
- 7:09Speaker 1: you bet it and then but that's that's it. That
- 7:11Speaker 1: if it happens twenty years later, you don't do anything
- 7:13Speaker 1: about it. But this is something that we would, you know,
- 7:15Speaker 1: kind of you rip each other about. You know, for
- 7:18Speaker 1: the first couple of marches after the bets, it was
- 7:20Speaker 1: it was a known carryover effect. Scooch, what do you think, Well,
- 7:26Speaker 1: I've got a question for Stucky. Let's let's here's a hypothetical.
- 7:30Speaker 1: It's two thousand twenty, the tournament just ended, no sixteen
- 7:34Speaker 1: seeds upset at any number one seeds. Would you be
- 7:37Speaker 1: trying to reach out to find out where he's at
- 7:40Speaker 1: to give him the ten thousand dollars? No, but I know, um,
- 7:47Speaker 1: but I would you know I wouldn't actively go find it.
- 7:50Speaker 1: If he did reach out to me, Yes, I would
- 7:52Speaker 1: be prepared to pay him and would gladly pay um.
- 7:56Speaker 1: So that's the that's the dilemma. Is he waited waiting
- 7:59Speaker 1: for me? Is he does? He has he forgotten about it?
- 8:03Speaker 1: I don't think he would have, but um, I would probably.
- 8:08Speaker 1: I don't expect him to actively reach out to me,
- 8:11Speaker 1: right It's it's a matter of like do I reach
- 8:14Speaker 1: out to him? And how do I go about doing it?
- 8:15Speaker 1: And I don't want to like I don't want to
- 8:17Speaker 1: hurt my old friend like thous. I don't know the
- 8:20Speaker 1: situation right now. My personally, this is my take on it,
- 8:24Speaker 1: is you try to reach out, try to find him,
- 8:26Speaker 1: because it's it's an interesting bet. And I think even
- 8:29Speaker 1: from from everyone's perspective, I mean, you gotta at least
- 8:32Speaker 1: try to reach out to him, just to acknowledge the
- 8:34Speaker 1: fact that, hey, I won this bet, even if there's
- 8:36Speaker 1: no money exchange, Hey I won this bet. So I
- 8:39Speaker 1: think you try to find him, but I think you
- 8:41Speaker 1: treated like a collection agency would to where Okay, you
- 8:45Speaker 1: know you're probably not going to get the full balance
- 8:48Speaker 1: of what's owed, but you know, just acknowledge that the
- 8:51Speaker 1: bet was lost and maybe he offers something up. Yeah,
- 8:55Speaker 1: that's a that's a really good point, because that's was
- 8:57Speaker 1: pretty much what I have to think about the best
- 9:00Speaker 1: way to actually like reach out and find him. But
- 9:03Speaker 1: I was thinking I would if I did end up
- 9:06Speaker 1: talking with him, you know. And I actually was a
- 9:09Speaker 1: bookie for a very small period of time in college,
- 9:11Speaker 1: and I was the worst book he ever because when
- 9:13Speaker 1: someone owed me a lot of money, I would be like, Okay,
- 9:15Speaker 1: just give me this or you don't have to pay
- 9:17Speaker 1: so um. So I was literally the only BOOKI they
- 9:21Speaker 1: probably ever lost money. But I would probably end up
- 9:23Speaker 1: just saying like, dude, just give me, you know, give
- 9:26Speaker 1: me five hours and what we'll meet up and buy
- 9:28Speaker 1: me a drink or something. Yeah. So yeah, that's bullshit. Man.
- 9:35Speaker 1: You get your you get your ten fucking grand, and
- 9:39Speaker 1: you invest that in Facebook by low Baby go ht
- 9:44Speaker 1: that stock. Well. One of the reasons why I'm I'm
- 9:49Speaker 1: waiting is I'm trying to find out, um about like
- 9:54Speaker 1: what he's doing first, Like, so I reached out to
- 9:56Speaker 1: a couple of friends because, like I said, if he's like,
- 9:59Speaker 1: you know, running a hedge fund and he spends ten
- 10:03Speaker 1: thousand dollars on you know, a dinner at night in Manhattan,
- 10:07Speaker 1: then I don't care. Then I'll send him an email
- 10:10Speaker 1: at his company addressed and be like, you haven't sent that.
- 10:13Speaker 1: But he's just a regular working man. It's a little
- 10:16Speaker 1: more sensitive than you know, if you just had a
- 10:19Speaker 1: kid two months ago, I would feel a little bad
- 10:21Speaker 1: about it. I'm not like going to make my old
- 10:23Speaker 1: friend set up like payment plan, a payment plan to
- 10:26Speaker 1: pay me over time. Um. So yeah, I see both
- 10:30Speaker 1: sides of the coin. I feel like he Honestly, this
- 10:34Speaker 1: is about code, man. I mean, this goes to the
- 10:38Speaker 1: core of what we talked about on this podcast all
- 10:41Speaker 1: the time. Is like, there are a lot of good
- 10:43Speaker 1: vegas codes, and there are a lot of bad vegas codes.
- 10:46Speaker 1: But one of the good vegas codes is regardless of
- 10:50Speaker 1: the scenario, regardless of how long it's been since you
- 10:53Speaker 1: spoke to somebody. You and a person who make it
- 10:56Speaker 1: be are two people that know the truth. And it
- 11:00Speaker 1: is your responsibility when you've lost that bet to reach
- 11:04Speaker 1: out and pay the person. It should not have to
- 11:06Speaker 1: be the person winning tracking you down and trying to
- 11:11Speaker 1: find out your life circumstances and trying to figure out
- 11:14Speaker 1: if it's something that they're going to be comfortable taking
- 11:17Speaker 1: your money like it is this guy's responsibility to man up,
- 11:22Speaker 1: call you up and say, I know we had this bet.
- 11:25Speaker 1: I'm so psyched you one. I'm going to write you
- 11:28Speaker 1: a check for ten K or I know we had
- 11:30Speaker 1: this bet. I'm so psyched you one. I can't pay you.
- 11:33Speaker 1: I apologize. I always thought it wasn't good fun anyways.
- 11:36Speaker 1: But um, I think he owes you the explanation. I
- 11:40Speaker 1: think he owes it to you. That's what I think.
- 11:43Speaker 1: I mean, it's a nice it's a I love that code.
- 11:45Speaker 1: And yeah, I mean, I better day. If you lose
- 11:47Speaker 1: a bet, you pay. If you winn a bet, you
- 11:49Speaker 1: should get paid. But the problem is, I mean that
- 11:51Speaker 1: that doesn't get followed by almost I mean by a
- 11:54Speaker 1: lot of people. There's a reason why, you know, if
- 11:56Speaker 1: you talk too many books. They're always chasing people down.
- 12:00Speaker 1: People are you know, running on their balances, especially people
- 12:03Speaker 1: that bet on credit, which is one of the things
- 12:05Speaker 1: that's throwing and betting on credit. So a lot of
- 12:06Speaker 1: people don't follow that. But I agree with you that
- 12:09Speaker 1: if that was followed by every person, that's look like
- 12:12Speaker 1: the noble side of of gambling. And you know, some
- 12:15Speaker 1: people like myself do follow it like yow you money,
- 12:18Speaker 1: I'll find a way and I'm paying you, um no
- 12:21Speaker 1: matter what. But you know it's not that's not as
- 12:25Speaker 1: close to the heart for everyone is it is to
- 12:28Speaker 1: you and myself? You know what, you know what, you
- 12:30Speaker 1: know what. I think it's funny. I picture since two
- 12:33Speaker 1: thousand seven, I picture this guy, Brian popping the bottle
- 12:36Speaker 1: of champagne every time the number one seed beats the
- 12:39Speaker 1: sixteen seed, like the seventy two Miami Dolphins, and then
- 12:44Speaker 1: and then this year when it when it happened, he's like,
- 12:47Speaker 1: oh ship, I gotta go into hiding. Yeah. See so
- 12:51Speaker 1: like but the other side of the court is that
- 12:52Speaker 1: if he became uber successful and he's making millions any
- 12:58Speaker 1: probably for he really did, probably forget it out. It
- 13:00Speaker 1: doesn't care, right so then Yeah, it's either it's either
- 13:03Speaker 1: one said then I then I wouldn't feel bad at that,
- 13:05Speaker 1: or yes, he was popping the champagne every year and
- 13:08Speaker 1: then he's like ready for Virginia UNBC for another year.
- 13:12Speaker 1: One left, and then he says, oh man, and then
- 13:15Speaker 1: he goes into hiding. There's either what I feel like,
- 13:17Speaker 1: it's either one of those two extremes. There's no way
- 13:23Speaker 1: he's ever forgotten this bet. There's just no way. It
- 13:26Speaker 1: doesn't matter how many millions. Brian, who majored in finance
- 13:29Speaker 1: at g W and graduated in the late two in
- 13:32Speaker 1: the later latter part of the first decade of two
- 13:35Speaker 1: thousand's if you're listening, um, there's no way he's forgotten
- 13:39Speaker 1: this bet. Absolutely no way. It is a it is
- 13:43Speaker 1: a remember for the rest of your life. Tell this
- 13:46Speaker 1: story moment. He thinks about it every March, if not
- 13:48Speaker 1: every day. Yeah, no, I I agree with that. I mean,
- 13:54Speaker 1: you know, I've been pretty drunk, oh certain times in
- 13:58Speaker 1: my life, but I think I've been pretty drunk. I
- 14:03Speaker 1: would always remember a ten thousand dollar bet. I don't
- 14:05Speaker 1: care how drunk I was. Yeah, No, this was this
- 14:10Speaker 1: was clear. Everyone was cognizant. We weren't like drunk, we
- 14:13Speaker 1: were drinking trending towards drunk. And you know, I was
- 14:16Speaker 1: talked about after the fact, So like I feel like
- 14:19Speaker 1: if it was a drunk bet that was never talked
- 14:21Speaker 1: about again, then you know, that's just you just chalked
- 14:24Speaker 1: that out the drunk. You can't be like, hey, remember
- 14:26Speaker 1: ten years ago you said this at the bar, Well
- 14:29Speaker 1: you got to pay me now, I mean, this was
- 14:30Speaker 1: something that was carried over. He he's talk me about
- 14:33Speaker 1: what he was going to spend the ten thousand on.
- 14:35Speaker 1: Because I think in the article I wrote about how
- 14:37Speaker 1: in the first three tournaments, not one single sixteens he
- 14:42Speaker 1: came within fourteen points, the average margin of victor was
- 14:44Speaker 1: like thirty. I was like, oh man, And so he's
- 14:48Speaker 1: he used to always I'm like, did I make the
- 14:49Speaker 1: wrong beat? And he used to always say, um, you
- 14:52Speaker 1: know I'm gonna buy this. I'm gonna do this with
- 14:54Speaker 1: your money, so just like you know, kind of ripping me.
- 14:56Speaker 1: So it was definitely recognized and uh, it wasn't just
- 15:01Speaker 1: like a one time, one off comment. Wow, well here's
- 15:05Speaker 1: the problem, Like, scoot, you're gonna say something no, no,
- 15:10Speaker 1: here's the here's here's my dilemma. Is Uh, I like
- 15:16Speaker 1: resolution in my narratives, and so as much as I
- 15:19Speaker 1: would like to have Brian, who graduated with a degree
- 15:24Speaker 1: in finance from g W sometime in two thousand seven
- 15:27Speaker 1: two eight, um live by the code and just reach
- 15:31Speaker 1: out to you, which he hasn't done in the five
- 15:34Speaker 1: days since uh U NBC beat Virginia, I think you
- 15:39Speaker 1: need to find a way to get him so we
- 15:41Speaker 1: could have a follow up to the story. Like and
- 15:43Speaker 1: I think I think your path is probably the best one.
- 15:45Speaker 1: It's like, you find an email for him and you're
- 15:49Speaker 1: just like, dude, can you believe you NBC beat Virginia.
- 15:54Speaker 1: Remember that bet we had for ten k we made
- 15:56Speaker 1: it that bar we need to talk about totally, No, totally,
- 16:00Speaker 1: do not need to pay me. I just thought it
- 16:02Speaker 1: was a good opportunity to uh reconnect, hope things are
- 16:06Speaker 1: going well, and that's it. And let's then then you
- 16:10Speaker 1: have made the contact. It is on him to say, uh,
- 16:14Speaker 1: you know what, I totally owe you the money and uh,
- 16:17Speaker 1: if he's able and he lives by the covide, he'll
- 16:21Speaker 1: deal with it. That's what I think you should do. Yeah,
- 16:26Speaker 1: I agree. Yeah, I guess that's I'm gonna I'm just
- 16:28Speaker 1: figuring out the best. Well, first I gotta figure out how,
- 16:32Speaker 1: and then uh yeah, I'm just gonna be like assault hey,
- 16:36Speaker 1: you know, kind of in a joking way, like remember
- 16:38Speaker 1: this bat, how I just get I just gave it
- 16:40Speaker 1: to you. I gave you the line. I just gave
- 16:42Speaker 1: you the exact line. It's it's about the connection you're
- 16:44Speaker 1: reconnecting with Brian. It's not about the bet you defunct,
- 16:48Speaker 1: the bet you said. I just thought it was a
- 16:50Speaker 1: good opportunity to reconnect. Hope, life is good. Let's catch
- 16:53Speaker 1: up sometime. That's it. That's on him. Yeah, I agree. Well,
- 17:00Speaker 1: now how do we find his email? Um? Well, I'll
- 17:05Speaker 1: be able to get it. I know a couped people
- 17:06Speaker 1: that know him well, um that I reached out to. Alright, Stuck,
- 17:10Speaker 1: I need you to find his email. I need you
- 17:12Speaker 1: to email him, and then you need to write a
- 17:13Speaker 1: follow up story and then come back on the podcast
- 17:15Speaker 1: so we can get some resolution. All right, it sounds good.
- 17:18Speaker 1: All right, go back to work. We got good luck?
- 17:20Speaker 1: All right, all right, take care scoog. Yeah, so what
- 17:27Speaker 1: would you do there? Yeah? I think the same thing.
- 17:31Speaker 1: I mean, reach out to him. I would just want
- 17:33Speaker 1: acknowledgement of winning the wager more than whatever amount of
- 17:36Speaker 1: money is going to be collected, if any Uh So,
- 17:39Speaker 1: I would you know, go through friends of friends to
- 17:42Speaker 1: find out where where he is and finally get his
- 17:45Speaker 1: contact information, whether it's a number or an email, just
- 17:48Speaker 1: like you said, and see what he says, you know,
- 17:50Speaker 1: feel him out. Speaking of acknowledgement, boy, did we have
- 17:54Speaker 1: a good time in Vegas last week? Wow? Yeah, what
- 17:59Speaker 1: an experience that that was nutty? So uh first up, Uh,
- 18:04Speaker 1: it was me on Wednesday night last week in Vegas
- 18:07Speaker 1: the Planned Games. We were invited to an event. I'm
- 18:11Speaker 1: not gonna sort of throw anyone under the bus here,
- 18:13Speaker 1: but we were invited to an event, uh to speak
- 18:16Speaker 1: to about four or five people and um that they
- 18:20Speaker 1: originally just asked me to come, and I said, Hey,
- 18:22Speaker 1: why don't I come with Scooch and we'll do like
- 18:23Speaker 1: a live podcast about it. They're like, great, we'll set
- 18:26Speaker 1: you up, we'll get you a table, you know, we'll
- 18:28Speaker 1: have the audience ready, all this kind of stuff. Grannell,
- 18:31Speaker 1: Mike Grannelle, the producer, came out. We took a picture
- 18:34Speaker 1: together that was fantastic. We had a couple other people
- 18:38Speaker 1: come out from the crew, and we were making a
- 18:40Speaker 1: whole sort of weekend of it, right, so uh, a
- 18:45Speaker 1: couple of things went wrong. Uh. Number one, as a
- 18:49Speaker 1: um giveaway for all the people there, we spent Uh
- 18:55Speaker 1: we bought future tickets on every team in the tournament,
- 18:59Speaker 1: and we were gonna give them away like in a
- 19:01Speaker 1: raffle form to get emails from people, like get sign
- 19:04Speaker 1: ups for the newsletter, etcetera, etcetera. So, uh, that's all good.
- 19:09Speaker 1: We get there, Scooch, why don't you pick it up
- 19:13Speaker 1: from here and tell me your perspective on this? And
- 19:14Speaker 1: then Grenelle, actually, Grannell, why don't you pick it up
- 19:17Speaker 1: and say when we walk in what happens? Well, we
- 19:21Speaker 1: walked in and we weren't given the table that we
- 19:27Speaker 1: The whole podcast situation was kind of um thrown away
- 19:31Speaker 1: because we weren't able to really record anything. There's there's
- 19:33Speaker 1: no table for us, so um so we so we
- 19:39Speaker 1: improvised and you guys got up on stage and you guys, uh,
- 19:45Speaker 1: you know, did your your kind of a live Q
- 19:47Speaker 1: and a chat interviewing Scooch while uh, a few of
- 19:50Speaker 1: us handed out free tickets because we had gotten um,
- 19:55Speaker 1: you know, we had placed five dollars four times on
- 19:58Speaker 1: every team in the tournament. So we were handing up
- 20:00Speaker 1: free tickets that uh, we're from a different book, and
- 20:05Speaker 1: they were not too happy with us, and they told
- 20:08Speaker 1: us to get the f out all right, So chat
- 20:12Speaker 1: I got. I gotta just tell from from my perspectives
- 20:16Speaker 1: real quick. I mean, just I don't like being downtown
- 20:19Speaker 1: to begin with. This was you had me. You had
- 20:23Speaker 1: me go downtown and I was greeted. I swear, I
- 20:26Speaker 1: walk into this casino and I see a guy I
- 20:29Speaker 1: haven't seen in twenty years when I used to probably
- 20:33Speaker 1: longer than that, almost thirty years, when I used to
- 20:35Speaker 1: work down at the Fremont and he said, hey, I
- 20:38Speaker 1: haven't seen you and forever we're yet And I said,
- 20:41Speaker 1: I'm at the Orleans now. He said, hey, you think
- 20:43Speaker 1: if I come down there, I can get like a
- 20:45Speaker 1: free meal. I mean, this is how I'm greeted, as
- 20:48Speaker 1: I wanted. I'm telling you. So we walk into this room,
- 20:54Speaker 1: like you said, there's five people, we don't know where
- 20:57Speaker 1: to go. The table's not ready, so they bring like
- 21:00Speaker 1: Grenelle said, they bring us up on stage. You and me,
- 21:03Speaker 1: and they take us through the back where it's dark.
- 21:06Speaker 1: We can't see now. The stage had an N I
- 21:09Speaker 1: T game going on that they turned off the game
- 21:12Speaker 1: for us to go on stage, and then we get
- 21:16Speaker 1: up there and we're already here like boom because they
- 21:19Speaker 1: turned the game off. Then you ask, hey, is does
- 21:22Speaker 1: anyone have any questions? And there's crickets, nobody has a question.
- 21:27Speaker 1: I felt. I felt like a bad vaudeville team going
- 21:30Speaker 1: on between the strippers, like where people who are just
- 21:34Speaker 1: looking for hey, who are you guys again? And it's dark,
- 21:40Speaker 1: we're trying to look at the sheet with the flashlight
- 21:43Speaker 1: from an iPhone. I mean, this was something else. So
- 21:50Speaker 1: then you know, we did mention. I tried not to
- 21:53Speaker 1: mention what book I was from, but I think eventually
- 21:56Speaker 1: it came up in conversation and they were none to
- 21:59Speaker 1: have be that I was from a competing sports book.
- 22:03Speaker 1: Well you've got it all right. We got up on
- 22:06Speaker 1: that stage, which was dark because they didn't have any
- 22:09Speaker 1: lights because it was meant to broadcast a basketball game,
- 22:14Speaker 1: so you wanted a sort of as dark as possible.
- 22:16Speaker 1: Um So I honestly thought we were going to have
- 22:20Speaker 1: have beer bottles thrown at us, like we were in
- 22:24Speaker 1: a bad basement comedy club working out our routine for
- 22:31Speaker 1: like drunks who had hatred and like had no interest
- 22:38Speaker 1: in seeing us at all, except I do recall, like,
- 22:41Speaker 1: so all of a sudden, we're going out there, and
- 22:43Speaker 1: like we had one mic that we had to share,
- 22:46Speaker 1: like you said, it was dark, and so we want
- 22:49Speaker 1: to talk about the brackets. But the only thank god
- 22:52Speaker 1: you brought like a printed copy of a bracket. We
- 22:55Speaker 1: had to use your phone flashlight to look at the brackets.
- 22:59Speaker 1: And I if, I don't know that anyone listened to
- 23:01Speaker 1: us except a couple of times. A couple of times
- 23:03Speaker 1: you said like Arizona, and there were Arizona fans who
- 23:06Speaker 1: started at one time. One time I said, I said
- 23:10Speaker 1: the name Scooch, and people were like Scooch. So so
- 23:16Speaker 1: we were there were some people listening, but like, I
- 23:19Speaker 1: don't think it ever. I don't think the volume level
- 23:22Speaker 1: in that place ever got beneath like a seven. I
- 23:26Speaker 1: don't think anyone was listening to us. The only good
- 23:28Speaker 1: thing was happening was Grinnelle, and um, this was funny.
- 23:33Speaker 1: So like when it was clear that nothing like we
- 23:37Speaker 1: we were going to periscope this thing. We were gonna
- 23:39Speaker 1: do a live podcast. Um, when it was clear that
- 23:43Speaker 1: none of this was going to be possible, I said
- 23:46Speaker 1: to Grinnell and the other guys, I'm like, Okay, our
- 23:49Speaker 1: only goal right now is give away the future tickets
- 23:52Speaker 1: and collect emails to like add to our subscriber database
- 23:55Speaker 1: and things like that. And so, uh, I'm like, guy
- 24:00Speaker 1: his hand to hand combat. Right now, you were going
- 24:02Speaker 1: table to table, person to person and just telling people
- 24:06Speaker 1: what we're doing and making these trades. And so before
- 24:11Speaker 1: you knew it, Grenell, God love him. The guy is
- 24:14Speaker 1: Fearless had a line of like fifty people in front
- 24:19Speaker 1: of the stage. So we're on the stage like talking
- 24:22Speaker 1: and Grenelle has a line of people just handing out
- 24:25Speaker 1: future stickets and uh, that's when he said to me, Yeah,
- 24:29Speaker 1: we're gonna get kicked out of here. While we were
- 24:31Speaker 1: you were talking, he asked me to come over. He
- 24:34Speaker 1: whispered to me, We're going to get kicked out of here,
- 24:36Speaker 1: and that was basically the end of Oh man, that
- 24:41Speaker 1: was fantastic. Yeah, I was kind of shocked because you
- 24:46Speaker 1: the guy came up to me and was talking about
- 24:49Speaker 1: the podcast and everything and he listens to the podcast.
- 24:51Speaker 1: I think he was from St. Louis and uh, and
- 24:53Speaker 1: then all of a sudden you disappeared. So I'm like,
- 24:56Speaker 1: where'd you go? And then when you came back, you're like, dude,
- 24:59Speaker 1: we just got kicked out of here. Yeah, we're done.
- 25:02Speaker 1: The best was the best was this is so gorilla.
- 25:07Speaker 1: Later that night, Uh, Grinnell and another one of the
- 25:11Speaker 1: guys had this bracket, a big bracket that we'd printed out,
- 25:14Speaker 1: and uh, they were walking around the MGM and I'm like,
- 25:17Speaker 1: let's just make a video of like people filling out
- 25:20Speaker 1: the bracket, fans filling out the bracket, and we'll do
- 25:22Speaker 1: something fun with it. Uh. Five minutes after they go
- 25:26Speaker 1: to do it, Grinnell calls me and he's like, yeah,
- 25:29Speaker 1: we just kicked out. We just got kicked out of
- 25:30Speaker 1: the mg M two. No wait, yeah, they weren't happy
- 25:34Speaker 1: with us. Tell tell what happened. So we were we
- 25:37Speaker 1: were kind of so we're doing it out like right
- 25:40Speaker 1: in front of the sports book, which was probably wasn't
- 25:42Speaker 1: a smart idea, and it was this guy staring at
- 25:45Speaker 1: us like wherever we went for about fifteen to twenty minutes,
- 25:47Speaker 1: like we'd we'd probably walk like, you know, twenty yards
- 25:50Speaker 1: thirty yards. He'd follow us kinda to see what we
- 25:53Speaker 1: were doing. So we we finally walked like completely away
- 25:57Speaker 1: from the sports book and we walked to the bar
- 26:00Speaker 1: and the we we were doing it over by the bar,
- 26:04Speaker 1: and the bartender said, um, you're gonna get kicked out
- 26:07Speaker 1: if you do that, and um, you know, ten minutes later,
- 26:11Speaker 1: security guard came over and basically told us that no
- 26:15Speaker 1: more of that. Uh So, those those were our adventures
- 26:19Speaker 1: in Vegas and all of it was grand, like, it
- 26:22Speaker 1: was so much fun. And we walked out of there
- 26:24Speaker 1: just we were you know, it was a fiasco, and
- 26:27Speaker 1: we laughed about it and shrugged it off and moved
- 26:28Speaker 1: on to the next day. And uh, you know, the
- 26:31Speaker 1: tournament has been amazing and really fun and great success
- 26:33Speaker 1: for the Action Network and so we're excited about it.
- 26:36Speaker 1: But I woke up I think early Saturday morning. Grenelle
- 26:40Speaker 1: left Friday night. I left, uh the sports book Friday
- 26:44Speaker 1: night with a buddy who came to visit, and we
- 26:46Speaker 1: went out to dinner and Grannelle and some other folks
- 26:49Speaker 1: were still at the book doing work and whatever. And
- 26:52Speaker 1: then uh, I guess Grunell went out after Grunel. Why
- 26:55Speaker 1: don't you tell us what had happened? Well, I, um,
- 26:59Speaker 1: you know, it was my first time in the beautiful
- 27:01Speaker 1: city of Las Vegas. So I decided I would, uh,
- 27:04Speaker 1: you know, go out and about see the town, check
- 27:06Speaker 1: it out. And uh I went to a club and
- 27:11Speaker 1: you know, so uh in in Tiesto, uh world renowned
- 27:14Speaker 1: DJ happened to be playing at the club. I'm I'm
- 27:17Speaker 1: a big fan of Tiesto. So I'm thinking, you know,
- 27:20Speaker 1: why why don't I try and get into the v
- 27:22Speaker 1: I P section and you know, maybe I'll meet Tisto.
- 27:24Speaker 1: There's a bunch of people. I could see a bunch
- 27:26Speaker 1: of people in the V I P section. So I
- 27:29Speaker 1: go up to the big guy, one of the big
- 27:31Speaker 1: guys standing in uh in front of the V I
- 27:34Speaker 1: P section. I started talking to him for a little
- 27:37Speaker 1: bit and I'm like, hey, you know, buddy, if I
- 27:39Speaker 1: give you a hundred bucks, you know you think you
- 27:41Speaker 1: could let me in here. And he goes, yeah, absolutely,
- 27:45Speaker 1: So I hand him a hundred bucks and he just
- 27:47Speaker 1: like like he didn't even know me, took the hundred
- 27:49Speaker 1: bucks and just walked away. And then I, uh, I
- 27:54Speaker 1: came to the conclusion that he was not a bouncer,
- 27:57Speaker 1: he did not work there, and I just lost your books.
- 28:05Speaker 1: Oh my god, that is classic. First, I gotta know,
- 28:11Speaker 1: like this was great. So we were at the sports
- 28:13Speaker 1: book basically forty eight hours on Thursday and Friday. Um.
- 28:19Speaker 1: On Friday, Grenell was that the sports book. He left
- 28:24Speaker 1: came back in an entirely different outfit. I know, I
- 28:27Speaker 1: just had a sweatshirt on. It looked like I was
- 28:29Speaker 1: in a different outfit, but I put I just had
- 28:31Speaker 1: just had a sweatshirt on. Oh no. We were convinced,
- 28:33Speaker 1: like Cornell, like, how many outfits did he bring to
- 28:36Speaker 1: Vegas for forty eight hours? I brought a ton I'm
- 28:40Speaker 1: a big, big outfit guy. I gotta look good. You
- 28:44Speaker 1: never know, you never know, you could meet your potential wife.
- 28:46Speaker 1: So who did you go to the public? Um? There's
- 28:50Speaker 1: there's a couple of guys that I happened to know
- 28:53Speaker 1: in Vegas that happened to be there at the time.
- 28:55Speaker 1: So I met up with one of them and we
- 28:59Speaker 1: just we walked over there. I actually saw him on
- 29:01Speaker 1: the way back from the sports Book and uh, he
- 29:04Speaker 1: told me he left his crew, and I said, I
- 29:07Speaker 1: I had left mine and I was going to go
- 29:08Speaker 1: to bed, and he convinced me to go out with him.
- 29:10Speaker 1: And that was kind of that. God, I love that.
- 29:14Speaker 1: That is so good. All right, So Cornell lost a
- 29:17Speaker 1: hundred bucks. He didn't get to meet Tso and he
- 29:19Speaker 1: didn't get into the V I P Section, which is
- 29:21Speaker 1: such a bummer. Um but still, and we got kicked
- 29:25Speaker 1: out of two different casinos. Um, but a good time
- 29:28Speaker 1: was had by all. Great time. At the end of
- 29:32Speaker 1: the day, we all had a blast. Scooch. We should
- 29:34Speaker 1: take a few minutes and run through the Sweet sixteen. Um. So, uh,
- 29:40Speaker 1: why don't we do that. Let's look at Illinois, uh,
- 29:43Speaker 1: Illinois Chicago and Nevada, because Illinois Chicago is actually playing
- 29:52Speaker 1: in one of the lesser tournaments. So I've had a
- 29:54Speaker 1: lot of people get miss misunderstood about that. Thank thank
- 29:57Speaker 1: you for correcting me. Uh yeah, so uh, you know,
- 30:02Speaker 1: don't forget we have a lot of Nevada loyalists here,
- 30:05Speaker 1: even though we're down south and most of the Reno
- 30:08Speaker 1: bettors are up north. And I know, I talked to
- 30:10Speaker 1: some of my buddies that have casinos up in Reno
- 30:13Speaker 1: and they got absolutely annihilated on that. Since the Nevada game. Uh,
- 30:17Speaker 1: whereas down south here in Las Vegas, we actually needed
- 30:21Speaker 1: Nevada to win that game. So uh, here we go again.
- 30:24Speaker 1: We're probably a little heavier on Nevada, but that's probably
- 30:27Speaker 1: only because of the uh, the local affiliation here. The
- 30:33Speaker 1: bigger money's on Loyal Chicago, and the Lion actually came
- 30:36Speaker 1: down a little bit from Nevada open to two point favorite,
- 30:39Speaker 1: we're down to one and a half now. Some of
- 30:42Speaker 1: the sharper actions seems to be on Loyal in Chicago. Uh.
- 30:45Speaker 1: And again I think it's just uh the fact that
- 30:48Speaker 1: there's some the Nevada fans here that make the ticket
- 30:51Speaker 1: count a little higher on Nevada. Why do you think
- 30:54Speaker 1: the wise guys are on Loyola? Is his sister Geane.
- 30:58Speaker 1: You know, they've been really high on this team, and
- 31:00Speaker 1: that was one of the things we actually talked about
- 31:02Speaker 1: in our brief time up on stage. There is one
- 31:05Speaker 1: of the teams that could kind of be a bracketbuster,
- 31:07Speaker 1: and that uh in that bracket. Of course, it turned
- 31:10Speaker 1: out to be uh U NBC instead, but they're both
- 31:13Speaker 1: out of that same bracket and uh, A lot of
- 31:17Speaker 1: professionals have watched this team play all year, and we're
- 31:19Speaker 1: really high on them coming into the tournament. You know,
- 31:22Speaker 1: they get by on that that lass second shot against
- 31:26Speaker 1: Miami to get them to the to the next round.
- 31:28Speaker 1: But uh, but then another upset against Tennessee and uh,
- 31:33Speaker 1: here we are again. You know that it's basically a
- 31:36Speaker 1: pick um game. And uh, looking at looking at this matchup,
- 31:39Speaker 1: I think that there's probably a little bit more value
- 31:41Speaker 1: on Loyal Chicago. So uh, I was at the west
- 31:44Speaker 1: Gate at the Westgate sports Book on Thursday and Friday,
- 31:48Speaker 1: and uh, they do a phenomenal job. J Scooch. I
- 31:52Speaker 1: know you're good friends with Jay, and the west Gate
- 31:54Speaker 1: does a phenomenal job with sort of their sports book,
- 31:57Speaker 1: and they have a huge arena. You know, they've got
- 31:58Speaker 1: a lot of people there. Um, and so they have
- 32:02Speaker 1: two different spots and so on Thursday morning, they were
- 32:05Speaker 1: having a little bit of trouble with their UH app
- 32:09Speaker 1: and I bet a significant amount on Loyola Chicago UH
- 32:13Speaker 1: to to win against Miami, and um, I pressed the
- 32:19Speaker 1: button and it said that like the app timed out
- 32:22Speaker 1: and my bet wasn't made. So I did it again
- 32:24Speaker 1: instead it timed out, bet wasn't made. I did it
- 32:26Speaker 1: again and uh, so you know it still didn't it
- 32:30Speaker 1: timed out as the third time was happening. Uh. They
- 32:33Speaker 1: made an announcement that they were having some technical difficulties
- 32:36Speaker 1: with the app at that moment and they gotta fixed quickly. Um.
- 32:40Speaker 1: But that if you were making bets, don't repeat the
- 32:44Speaker 1: bet because if it's timing out, your bet is actually
- 32:46Speaker 1: going in. I had three significant Betsola to win that game,
- 32:57Speaker 1: and I had to decide, like, am I gonna roll
- 32:59Speaker 1: with it? Am I going to try to get like
- 33:00Speaker 1: one of the bets in and get the other two refunded?
- 33:02Speaker 1: Like what am I gonna do? I was like, yeah,
- 33:05Speaker 1: fuck it, I'm going for it. So uh when Loyola
- 33:08Speaker 1: won that game on that last second shot like that, honestly,
- 33:12Speaker 1: that made my weekend. I was like I was so
- 33:16Speaker 1: far ahead, um for the weekend because of I bet
- 33:20Speaker 1: that game three times. That is fantastic. I love it
- 33:25Speaker 1: right Yeah? Yeah, so there you go, good for good
- 33:31Speaker 1: for mistakes. Michigan is a two and a half point
- 33:33Speaker 1: favorite over Texas A and M Boy, that's a tough one.
- 33:36Speaker 1: That Texas A and ND team. They looked just phenomenal. Yeah,
- 33:41Speaker 1: they really did. Um. Uh we I'm actually surprised at
- 33:46Speaker 1: this one. We opened, Uh. We opened Michigan a three
- 33:48Speaker 1: point favorite. Michigan has drawn so much action in every
- 33:52Speaker 1: single game. Uh, but they've actually been pretty good to
- 33:55Speaker 1: us because uh uh they didn't cover the first game
- 34:00Speaker 1: against Montana, and then I think one of the most
- 34:03Speaker 1: exciting times of the entire tournament was that buzzer beater
- 34:07Speaker 1: against Houston that actually cost us a ton of money
- 34:11Speaker 1: because we needed Houston on the money line and with
- 34:14Speaker 1: Michigan uh down a couple of points at three pointer
- 34:17Speaker 1: to to win the game was just a dagger. But
- 34:21Speaker 1: Michigan again has just been drawn a ton of action,
- 34:24Speaker 1: and now they flip flopped and like you said, they
- 34:26Speaker 1: saw a Texas A and M team that that looked fantastic,
- 34:30Speaker 1: so they've kind of gone the other way. We're a
- 34:32Speaker 1: little bit heavier in ticke account on Texas A and
- 34:35Speaker 1: M and on the money, So this will be the
- 34:38Speaker 1: first game so far that we actually need Michigan. Are
- 34:41Speaker 1: the wise guys done? Texas and ever? Is like everybody,
- 34:44Speaker 1: every everybody's on Texas A and M, the wise guys
- 34:46Speaker 1: and the public, so uh, I could actually see this
- 34:50Speaker 1: line going down. We've already adjusted the money line down
- 34:54Speaker 1: from a dollar fifty down to a minus of dollar
- 34:56Speaker 1: forty on Michigan. So uh, they're grabbing Texas A and
- 34:59Speaker 1: M on the money line here. Um, I don't think
- 35:03Speaker 1: anyone's at two yet, but I can see a lot
- 35:05Speaker 1: of small bets coming in, four bets coming in on
- 35:09Speaker 1: Texas A and M even as we speak, So um,
- 35:12Speaker 1: I could easily see this line going down to two.
- 35:15Speaker 1: All right, everybody's darling. Now Kentucky is a five and
- 35:19Speaker 1: a half point favorite over Kansas State. Yeah, yeah, uh
- 35:23Speaker 1: so this might be of the Thursday games. It's the biggest,
- 35:27Speaker 1: uh in terms of ticket account there's more bets on Kentucky,
- 35:30Speaker 1: uh than any of the eight teams there. That uh,
- 35:34Speaker 1: just all public money on Kentucky. But we do have
- 35:38Speaker 1: some sharp money on KSE State, and we opened this
- 35:42Speaker 1: game six and a half, So some of that early
- 35:44Speaker 1: money on KSE State from the sharp guys was just
- 35:46Speaker 1: really grabbing a value number because there were some five
- 35:49Speaker 1: and a half and we were out there at six
- 35:50Speaker 1: plus six and a half, so they grab plus six
- 35:53Speaker 1: and a half, They grabbed a little bit of plus six.
- 35:55Speaker 1: I know there's a lot of places around town that
- 35:57Speaker 1: still have five and a half, But again we're looking
- 36:00Speaker 1: at that ticket count and if it's this heavy now,
- 36:03Speaker 1: then by tip off time tomorrow, this is gonna be
- 36:06Speaker 1: our biggest game of the day. And you know, with
- 36:10Speaker 1: our properties, you know, we have a lot of properties
- 36:11Speaker 1: in town and there are a lot of locals properties.
- 36:14Speaker 1: Most of our bets on the sweet sixth team will
- 36:16Speaker 1: come in like a couple hours before the game, so
- 36:20Speaker 1: our our action hasn't even come in yet. And we
- 36:23Speaker 1: know it's gonna be on Kentucky. So even though everyone's
- 36:26Speaker 1: at five and a half now, I could see a
- 36:27Speaker 1: lot of places in Vegas closing at six. How about
- 36:30Speaker 1: Gonzaga Florida State. Gonzaga is going to the Final four.
- 36:33Speaker 1: I had them going to final four. The rest of
- 36:35Speaker 1: the rest of my bracket has blown because I had
- 36:37Speaker 1: since the in Michigan State in the finals and since
- 36:38Speaker 1: they're winning, but Kanza is going to the final four. Man, Yeah,
- 36:42Speaker 1: you know, outside of that one little spell when they
- 36:45Speaker 1: let Ohio State back in the game after opening up
- 36:48Speaker 1: a fifteen to nothing run to open the game. Uh,
- 36:51Speaker 1: they they had a little hiccup, but they recovered quickly
- 36:54Speaker 1: and then one that game and covered easily against Ohio State.
- 36:57Speaker 1: This team, a lot of people had them going pretty
- 36:59Speaker 1: deep into the turn tournament. And uh, they have such
- 37:02Speaker 1: a huge following out here on the West Coast, you know,
- 37:06Speaker 1: especially here. We're here at the Orleans and we have
- 37:09Speaker 1: the West Coast Conference Tournament here every year. So even
- 37:12Speaker 1: if you were in a Gonzaga fan five years ago,
- 37:15Speaker 1: you became one now because you've watched them for so
- 37:17Speaker 1: many years here coming to Vegas and playing in this tournament.
- 37:20Speaker 1: So there's a huge following for Gonzaga. You could just
- 37:23Speaker 1: hear the sports books every time, you know, they sink
- 37:26Speaker 1: a three. Uh, no matter who they're playing, they just
- 37:28Speaker 1: have just such a such a fan base and they
- 37:30Speaker 1: travel really well. So I would expect to hear a
- 37:33Speaker 1: lot of Gonzaga fans, you know, even at the game.
- 37:37Speaker 1: So uh, we're at minus five and a half. Um,
- 37:40Speaker 1: I could see the line going up to six. That
- 37:42Speaker 1: ticket accounts pretty heavy. It's uh, not as heavy as Kentucky,
- 37:46Speaker 1: but it's probably the second most beat team of those
- 37:49Speaker 1: Thursday Slate is the wise Guy money on the other side.
- 37:54Speaker 1: Haven't gotten any wise Guy money on this game at all,
- 37:56Speaker 1: So UM, I'm not sure if they if they're just
- 37:59Speaker 1: wait to get a better number. Uh, doesn't seem like
- 38:03Speaker 1: they were really high on Florida State even in their
- 38:05Speaker 1: previous games. Didn't get a whole lot of money on
- 38:08Speaker 1: on Florida State in the previous games, especially compared to
- 38:11Speaker 1: some of these other teams that made it to the
- 38:12Speaker 1: Sweet six. Team, Uh, really just one of the teams
- 38:15Speaker 1: that are kind of like, oh, they're there too, so
- 38:17Speaker 1: it's not a whole lot of action on them. What
- 38:20Speaker 1: about Ku? Like Ku was one of those teams nobody
- 38:23Speaker 1: really was one of those number one sees that people
- 38:24Speaker 1: are not high on. Yeah, they've got a easier path
- 38:27Speaker 1: there a four and a half and they played Clemson,
- 38:30Speaker 1: um not so easy, Like they still have to face
- 38:33Speaker 1: Duke if they move on. But what do you think
- 38:35Speaker 1: of that game? Well, like you said, Kansas is one
- 38:38Speaker 1: of those teams that's you know, parentna, parentna. I can't
- 38:41Speaker 1: say that word, but everything that's the word. Yeah, my
- 38:45Speaker 1: my mouth doesn't working today. Every year that they're either
- 38:49Speaker 1: number one or number two seed, people feel like they're
- 38:51Speaker 1: gonna go down, that they're they're not that they they
- 38:56Speaker 1: never really cover the spreads, but unless they're laying a
- 38:59Speaker 1: short number, so it's it's odd that's Kansas is laying
- 39:02Speaker 1: a big number. Uh, they bet the dog, and if
- 39:04Speaker 1: they're laying a short number, they kind of lay the favorite.
- 39:07Speaker 1: So in this one, the public is on Kansas. We're
- 39:11Speaker 1: at minus four and a half. The sharp guys are
- 39:13Speaker 1: are on Clemson though, so we got some some bigger
- 39:16Speaker 1: money on Clemson taking the plus four and a half.
- 39:19Speaker 1: All the public money is on is on Kansas at
- 39:22Speaker 1: minus the four and a half. And I gotta tell
- 39:24Speaker 1: you this was, if I had to pick one single
- 39:27Speaker 1: biggest moment for the sports book in the tournament, it
- 39:31Speaker 1: was when Kansas was up eighty three to seventy eight.
- 39:36Speaker 1: I think it was or seven, Oh, no, seventy six.
- 39:39Speaker 1: Eighty three is seventy six against Seaton Hall and they
- 39:41Speaker 1: were laying, uh four and a half against Seaton Hall.
- 39:44Speaker 1: And I don't know if you remember, with no time
- 39:47Speaker 1: left on the clock, a seemingly meaning meaningless three pointer
- 39:51Speaker 1: from Seaton Hall that made the final score eighty three
- 39:54Speaker 1: to seventy nine Kansas did not cover by the hook
- 39:58Speaker 1: was our biggest moment in the entire tournament. I mean
- 40:02Speaker 1: that that day, if you remember Villanova had one. By
- 40:06Speaker 1: twenty Duke had won. By twenty Gonzaga was up big
- 40:10Speaker 1: on Ohio State, Kentucky had already covered. All the favorites
- 40:13Speaker 1: were just absolutely rolling. And if Kansas had covered that
- 40:17Speaker 1: game against Seton Hall, we would have gotten absolutely annihilated.
- 40:21Speaker 1: So I don't know if that many people realize how
- 40:23Speaker 1: big that three pointer or at the end of the
- 40:25Speaker 1: game was, but that saved our day. Well, we wrote
- 40:28Speaker 1: about it at the Action Network, uh, because we have
- 40:31Speaker 1: this column about bad beat on Monday, and so I
- 40:34Speaker 1: got about it quite a bit. I gotta read that
- 40:37Speaker 1: thing totally check out. Speaking of uh, don't forget that
- 40:41Speaker 1: after Scooch is gone. Uh. From this podcast, we have
- 40:44Speaker 1: Paul la duca former All Star catcher Major League Baseball
- 40:47Speaker 1: who's writing for the Action Network in Jeff Schwara's tenure
- 40:50Speaker 1: NFL VET also writing for the Action Network. They're gonna
- 40:52Speaker 1: come on and talk about their latest stories. MLB season
- 40:54Speaker 1: win totals, NFL season win totals, um that are all
- 40:58Speaker 1: changing a little bit because of free agents. Scoots. Let's
- 41:01Speaker 1: talk about Nova, the prohibited favorite in West Virginia. I
- 41:04Speaker 1: like this game Nova a five and a half with
- 41:05Speaker 1: the favorite everyone likes Nova, and there's another team that
- 41:08Speaker 1: just kind of keeps just rolling along. I mean, uh
- 41:12Speaker 1: they are just kind of covering easily now, so they
- 41:15Speaker 1: seem like, uh, you know, the most legit number one team.
- 41:18Speaker 1: So uh uh all it's just all one sided on
- 41:22Speaker 1: this one, both from the public side and the and
- 41:25Speaker 1: the wise guy side. Um, I boy, you know what,
- 41:29Speaker 1: we might have a line change just right right now
- 41:32Speaker 1: as we're at five and a half, but we're really
- 41:34Speaker 1: close to going to six, and I think I'm gonna
- 41:36Speaker 1: go to six. Mind change, mind change, you know, are
- 41:41Speaker 1: you ready? Yeah? So we opened five on the game,
- 41:48Speaker 1: we went to five and a half and now we're
- 41:50Speaker 1: at and now we're at six. So just all completely
- 41:52Speaker 1: one sided. Uh boy, we're just gonna be big West
- 41:55Speaker 1: Virginia fans on on Friday. I don't even know if
- 41:58Speaker 1: Grinella was listening. He's like he's got a head at
- 42:00Speaker 1: Tiesto right now. Hud Bucks back, uh Duke, big, big
- 42:08Speaker 1: favorites over Syracuse. I know the wise guys are going
- 42:10Speaker 1: to come in on Syracuse in this game, absolutely, you know,
- 42:13Speaker 1: and I've heard it throughout just kind of milling around
- 42:16Speaker 1: with all the people in the sports book that they
- 42:18Speaker 1: love Syracuse in the role of a big underdog. It
- 42:21Speaker 1: seems no matter how mediocre the team is, once they
- 42:24Speaker 1: get into the tournament, uh, they just turn it up
- 42:28Speaker 1: a notch and especially getting a lot of points. I
- 42:31Speaker 1: expect this to be a lot closer uh than a
- 42:34Speaker 1: lot of people think. The wise guys have already come
- 42:35Speaker 1: in on it. And to be honest with you, the
- 42:37Speaker 1: public is actually favoring Syracuse to the ticket account is
- 42:41Speaker 1: not favoring Duke in this one. The ticket account is
- 42:44Speaker 1: actually about a three to two favorite on on Syracuse.
- 42:47Speaker 1: So I think the public feels the same way that
- 42:50Speaker 1: you do that it's just a little too many points
- 42:53Speaker 1: for a Sweet Sixteen game. Alright, last game of the
- 42:56Speaker 1: Sweet Sixteen, Perdue is a one and a half point
- 42:58Speaker 1: favorite over text a Tech. He had not a whole
- 43:02Speaker 1: lot of action on this. You know a lot of
- 43:03Speaker 1: people just they were really high on Perdue, but obviously
- 43:07Speaker 1: after after the injury, the Hasta, they've kind of backed
- 43:10Speaker 1: away a little bit. They're just not quite certain about them.
- 43:13Speaker 1: It's basically a pick um game. We opened Perdue minus
- 43:15Speaker 1: one and a half. We have no movement on it whatsoever.
- 43:19Speaker 1: Ticket account slightly heavier on Perdue, but just out of
- 43:22Speaker 1: all the games on the board, I think we have
- 43:23Speaker 1: the least action overall on this one than of anyone.
- 43:26Speaker 1: So um, we'll see if the wise guys come in
- 43:29Speaker 1: on it, but they haven't so far. All right, Here's
- 43:32Speaker 1: who I have coming out of the since we won't
- 43:35Speaker 1: talk again until the final four. Here's why I have
- 43:37Speaker 1: coming out of these brackets. I have Kentucky, I have Gonzaga,
- 43:41Speaker 1: I have Nova, and I have Duke. I have to
- 43:48Speaker 1: agree with that. Of all the teams left, I agree.
- 43:52Speaker 1: There you go. See what do the Yeah, yeah, I
- 43:55Speaker 1: know it's an anticlimactic that we're not on opposite size,
- 43:58Speaker 1: but I'm with you, all right, it scooge. Listen, there's
- 44:01Speaker 1: nobody kicking us off of this podcast. So, uh, thanks
- 44:05Speaker 1: for joining me today. No, thank you. It's good seeing you. Good.
- 44:09Speaker 1: Good meeting Grannelle face to face the first time we
- 44:12Speaker 1: got a chance to actually meet, so it was the pleasure.
- 44:14Speaker 1: Same here. We'll see you next time you're out of course. Alright,
- 44:20Speaker 1: fright bye, Alright, it's time for the second half of
- 44:25Speaker 1: the buffet. I'm calling this segment pro athletes who gamble,
- 44:30Speaker 1: uh and with me? Are Paul la duca former All
- 44:34Speaker 1: Star Major League Baseball catcher UH contributor to the Action
- 44:38Speaker 1: Network whose first story went up on Wednesday or late
- 44:42Speaker 1: Tuesday night looking at MLB season win totals. UH. Jeff Schwartz,
- 44:47Speaker 1: veteran NFL lineman, also contributor to the Action Network, whose
- 44:52Speaker 1: stories UH first two stories went up in the past week,
- 44:55Speaker 1: looking at NFL wind totals. Paul, Jeff, thank, I appreciate it.
- 45:03Speaker 1: What are you away lasting already? What is? Because I
- 45:09Speaker 1: just have I already know me and Jeff already just
- 45:12Speaker 1: the same personality, and it's going to be a rip fest,
- 45:14Speaker 1: and I'm gonna it's gonna love every part of it.
- 45:17Speaker 1: Except I grew up with Giants fan. Is that okay
- 45:19Speaker 1: with you? No, that's all right. I mean, here's the deal.
- 45:22Speaker 1: I am a Jets fan, but like mini Jets fan.
- 45:26Speaker 1: I actually was a kid that was born in Brooklyn
- 45:28Speaker 1: and grew up in Arizona. So I actually I am
- 45:30Speaker 1: a Cardinals fans. So don't kill me for that. No,
- 45:33Speaker 1: I actually mean a Sancisco Giants baseball fan. Okay, then
- 45:36Speaker 1: I don't like you. I'm not. I don't root for
- 45:42Speaker 1: any football team really besides the Cheese because my brother
- 45:45Speaker 1: plays for them and I played for so many. But
- 45:46Speaker 1: now I make sense as a Giants fan, like hard
- 45:50Speaker 1: you make a good point, you know, as a professional athlete,
- 45:53Speaker 1: to be honest with you, do I root for the Mets. Yeah,
- 45:56Speaker 1: They're my childhood team, I grew up with. I got
- 45:58Speaker 1: a dream to play with them, play for them. The Dodgers,
- 46:02Speaker 1: I do dream foundation stuff. But like, I'm not a
- 46:05Speaker 1: big I'm not really a big health fan as somebody
- 46:08Speaker 1: when you it's really hard to go back and watch
- 46:10Speaker 1: and still to this day, I haven't gone back and
- 46:12Speaker 1: watch the nine any game. It's just like I have
- 46:14Speaker 1: nothing personal. It's just like I sat through a hundred
- 46:17Speaker 1: and eighty million national ranthems and all that stuff. I
- 46:21Speaker 1: don't need to do it anymore. You know, it's interesting,
- 46:25Speaker 1: you guys, go ahead, keep talking. You don't need me
- 46:27Speaker 1: keep going. No, it makes told. I've been to one
- 46:30Speaker 1: for football game since I retired two years ago. It
- 46:32Speaker 1: was my brother's game, and I have zero desire to
- 46:35Speaker 1: go back to any other any other games. You know,
- 46:38Speaker 1: Jeff's right, Like you know, many people hit us. I'm
- 46:40Speaker 1: sure Jake gets the same things like I have clubhouse
- 46:43Speaker 1: guys that I can get tickets for, and then people
- 46:45Speaker 1: invite me to games this and that, and they take
- 46:47Speaker 1: it personal, and I'm like, bro, it's just like it's
- 46:52Speaker 1: it's in an ego check or not. I don't know, Jeff.
- 46:54Speaker 1: Maybe it is for you, but I'm like, the game
- 46:56Speaker 1: does get easier. I'll be arnest with you on that one.
- 46:59Speaker 1: But I don't want to be sitting in the seventi
- 47:01Speaker 1: eight throw. I used to sit right there, I be
- 47:03Speaker 1: on home plate, and then to me, it's just it
- 47:05Speaker 1: does nothing for me. I rather up on a chair.
- 47:10Speaker 1: Plus on Sundays, I have to work. I have to
- 47:13Speaker 1: watch all the games on Sundays. They can't just spend
- 47:15Speaker 1: my day at entire stadium. So it's not worth it
- 47:19Speaker 1: for me to go to football games anymore. Yeah. I
- 47:21Speaker 1: never thought of it that way. I never thought of
- 47:22Speaker 1: it that way. God, that's so interesting that both of you,
- 47:27Speaker 1: who played so many games and so many years and
- 47:29Speaker 1: spent so much time thinking about getting to the professional
- 47:33Speaker 1: level of your sports. Uh, you leave the game and
- 47:37Speaker 1: have no interest in attending a game. The To me,
- 47:40Speaker 1: there's nothing more exciting than as a fan. And also
- 47:44Speaker 1: now you know I've been a sports writer and in
- 47:47Speaker 1: the sports media business for a long time and going
- 47:50Speaker 1: to a lot of games. Um, it still feels amazing
- 47:54Speaker 1: to walk into a stadium and like come through a
- 47:56Speaker 1: tunnel and look at the open expanse of a field.
- 48:00Speaker 1: That's awesome. I gotta get a rush from that every
- 48:02Speaker 1: single time I enjoy I enjoy well, okay, wherever whoever
- 48:11Speaker 1: being better than that. But I enjoyed going to baseball
- 48:14Speaker 1: Like I go to baseball games, and I enjoyed that
- 48:16Speaker 1: feeling of walking the ballpark and seeing the park. I'm
- 48:19Speaker 1: still that excitement doing that or going to the basketball game.
- 48:21Speaker 1: But like when I watched the football game, I was
- 48:23Speaker 1: that with my brother. Um, it's a little weird at
- 48:26Speaker 1: first to be on the field. I was gonna feel
- 48:28Speaker 1: for warm ups. It's a little weird, um, And then
- 48:31Speaker 1: I don't know, it's kind of anxious. Like my wife
- 48:33Speaker 1: could tell. It was kind of a little like off
- 48:35Speaker 1: for a little bit, um, And then I settled in
- 48:38Speaker 1: during the game a little bit more. Um. It just
- 48:41Speaker 1: was an odd feeling. I just I was like, I'm
- 48:42Speaker 1: sitting in the crowd knowing that I played the game,
- 48:45Speaker 1: and I just to havevy design to really be there
- 48:47Speaker 1: besides the root for my brother. I it's like taking
- 48:53Speaker 1: my words out of the mouth, like you almost want
- 48:56Speaker 1: somebody you can root for, you know what. Jeff having
- 48:58Speaker 1: as brother is a good thing. You know, he can
- 49:01Speaker 1: at least go to the stadium. But I'm with him
- 49:03Speaker 1: whenever I go out on the field and do stuff
- 49:05Speaker 1: for the Mets and then the regular players come out,
- 49:09Speaker 1: it's a it's an awkward feeling, it really is. He's right,
- 49:12Speaker 1: it's it's it's like, uh, I never waited in line
- 49:17Speaker 1: and a nightclub when I played. I never did that.
- 49:20Speaker 1: The regular parking Jeff knows, I used the parking the
- 49:23Speaker 1: players parking line. I ain't parking in a mile the way.
- 49:25Speaker 1: I'm sorry, we got that's the bottom line. That is
- 49:29Speaker 1: the bottom line. And listen, Louver is gonna drop me
- 49:31Speaker 1: off at Gate A and my tickets are sitting there
- 49:33Speaker 1: and I'm sitting in the fleet. I'm sorry. I'm being
- 49:36Speaker 1: honest with you because the thing about it is is
- 49:39Speaker 1: like and like Jeff said, it's an awkward feeling, and
- 49:43Speaker 1: he's right, you know, I love Actually I was never
- 49:45Speaker 1: a big basketball fan when I grew up, but like
- 49:48Speaker 1: I love going to watch basketball live, and then I
- 49:50Speaker 1: end up really loving the hockey live. And I'm not
- 49:53Speaker 1: a guyant hockey fan, but to watch both of the
- 49:55Speaker 1: sports live were different for me. But when I walk
- 49:58Speaker 1: into a major league stag um um, it's like, Okay,
- 50:03Speaker 1: I've been there, done that, you know, and I put
- 50:06Speaker 1: it this way. I know, oh, Canada probably better than
- 50:08Speaker 1: our national anthem. I heard it so many times that
- 50:14Speaker 1: is awesome. All right, let me let me get to
- 50:16Speaker 1: the point at hand here, because, uh, Jeff, you've been
- 50:18Speaker 1: on the podcast before and you did the Super Bowl
- 50:21Speaker 1: show with us um. But as for an introduction, I
- 50:24Speaker 1: feel like briefly people need to know about both of
- 50:28Speaker 1: your interests and experiences with betting. So Jeff, you start
- 50:34Speaker 1: just sort of talk a little bit about how you
- 50:36Speaker 1: came to be interested in gambling and how that's you
- 50:40Speaker 1: know that and that's why you're with the Action Network
- 50:42Speaker 1: right now. Yeah, So, you know, I've always kind of
- 50:45Speaker 1: had you know, I know that my grandfather, who passed
- 50:50Speaker 1: away before I was born, was betting horses every day,
- 50:53Speaker 1: and so I kind of let me have that little
- 50:56Speaker 1: one of me and I'm a horse betting fan. But
- 50:59Speaker 1: um knew you on Twitter. A lot of my friends
- 51:01Speaker 1: who cover sports, uh gamble, and they might not say
- 51:04Speaker 1: it publicly, but I know they do. And as soon
- 51:06Speaker 1: as I retired, I was like, you know what, I'm
- 51:08Speaker 1: gonna do this, And so I basically knew the last
- 51:12Speaker 1: year was twenty sixteen September October November, and I knew
- 51:17Speaker 1: no one was I was getting called I was done.
- 51:19Speaker 1: So I retired, started gambling a little bit um that December,
- 51:23Speaker 1: and then really hit it hard for the college football
- 51:25Speaker 1: playoffs and and the regular season, I mean the NFL
- 51:29Speaker 1: playoffs as well. It was a lot of fun. And
- 51:31Speaker 1: then I don't do too much other sports, you know,
- 51:34Speaker 1: anti double A tournaments going on now, but I really
- 51:36Speaker 1: enjoy it. Adds some excitement. You're you know, you watch
- 51:39Speaker 1: games sometimes that you never really watched because you got
- 51:43Speaker 1: a couple of bucks on it. Um. You know, I
- 51:44Speaker 1: don't gamble to support an income. Is do it for fun, um.
- 51:48Speaker 1: And it just gives me another way to look at
- 51:50Speaker 1: at at sports. Um. You know, using different ways to
- 51:55Speaker 1: think about the game. And you know, sometimes and I
- 51:57Speaker 1: talked about this, you know, the way I perceive a
- 52:01Speaker 1: game is often quite opposite with the way Vegas perceives
- 52:04Speaker 1: a game. So it's quite fascinating to as I bet
- 52:06Speaker 1: typically how I want to bet, and not really what
- 52:08Speaker 1: Vegas or Vegas just says I should bet. And so
- 52:12Speaker 1: it's always weird for me when I'm like, I know
- 52:13Speaker 1: this is supposed to happen, but again, and Vegas was
- 52:15Speaker 1: right again and and so I have this weird dilemma
- 52:18Speaker 1: that should I stick with what I think I know
- 52:20Speaker 1: or so I trust Vegas. Well, I think the answer
- 52:23Speaker 1: is always trust Vegas. I know. But but but but
- 52:27Speaker 1: my job is to talk about the NFL, so I
- 52:30Speaker 1: think I know what I'm talking about. So when I
- 52:32Speaker 1: you know, and it really kills me in prop betting
- 52:34Speaker 1: because I've lost many props by a yard or two. Um,
- 52:39Speaker 1: when I think that I know how a team is
- 52:41Speaker 1: gonna game plan someone, and it's so upsetting, like despite
- 52:44Speaker 1: my comparite a yard, like oh just get one more yard,
- 52:47Speaker 1: come on, and that's where it kills him or anything else.
- 52:51Speaker 1: But I found some fun way to take advantage of
- 52:53Speaker 1: I haven't played before, so it's a ton of fun.
- 52:56Speaker 1: I love it. Um. Maybe I'll get into more other
- 52:59Speaker 1: other sports as we keep going. But it was a
- 53:02Speaker 1: rough year for football, but I still had fun doing it. Laduca,
- 53:05Speaker 1: I feel like you have so much you could teach
- 53:08Speaker 1: this guy. Well we have. We have a little bit
- 53:13Speaker 1: of the same background. Although my father was the one
- 53:15Speaker 1: that took me to the race back. I mean, I
- 53:19Speaker 1: was a kid that was, um, you know line to
- 53:25Speaker 1: my mother where I was cutting class and act. You know,
- 53:29Speaker 1: you know, it's funny. I was always a math wizard
- 53:33Speaker 1: in a minor and a math major, and in numbers
- 53:37Speaker 1: fascinated me and I always I cut my teeth actually
- 53:40Speaker 1: on dog racing, which was crazy because to me it
- 53:44Speaker 1: was it was always you know, process of elimination or
- 53:47Speaker 1: stuff like that. Then it turned into horse racing. Horse
- 53:51Speaker 1: racing was always my passion. But you know, you end
- 53:55Speaker 1: up realizing at a certain age, Um, my father is
- 53:58Speaker 1: running this business or that business, and he's really running
- 54:01Speaker 1: one business. So you know when I wrote in my
- 54:03Speaker 1: article this morning is true back in the day. You know,
- 54:06Speaker 1: I'm forty five now, but back in the day, I
- 54:08Speaker 1: used to read the lines and on a separate line, um,
- 54:12Speaker 1: you know the Patriots plus this or you know the
- 54:15Speaker 1: the the USC plus that was on the other line.
- 54:18Speaker 1: You'd call that line and then you'd call my father. Now,
- 54:20Speaker 1: my father had like local guys. He wasn't a big guy,
- 54:24Speaker 1: ten twenty guys and um, I really didn't pay attention
- 54:28Speaker 1: until he through the the the the uh the UH
- 54:32Speaker 1: TV out the window one day and I'll never forget
- 54:34Speaker 1: to be uh. And this is a beat that I
- 54:37Speaker 1: don't know a lot of probably people will go back to.
- 54:39Speaker 1: But it was Arizona State against USC, and Arizona State
- 54:43Speaker 1: was getting I want to say nine nine and a half.
- 54:45Speaker 1: I might be wrong on this, and it went into overtime.
- 54:49Speaker 1: USC scored and then the first play from Arizona State
- 54:52Speaker 1: they threw a pick six and it was a cover
- 54:56Speaker 1: over the number in overtime, which probably happened maybe once
- 55:00Speaker 1: or twice. And when the TV went outside the front
- 55:04Speaker 1: of the house, I started to realize what my father
- 55:08Speaker 1: was doing for a living, so, you know, and then
- 55:10Speaker 1: you know, when I signed my professional contract, he stopped.
- 55:13Speaker 1: You had to. You know a lot of people have
- 55:15Speaker 1: already hit me up. Did you ever bet on baseball?
- 55:18Speaker 1: You bet on? No, I haven't. And the crazy part
- 55:20Speaker 1: about it is MLB actually investigated me because I owned
- 55:24Speaker 1: a ton of horses, but I had never bet on
- 55:27Speaker 1: baseball because It was the one thing that was the
- 55:30Speaker 1: first thing you ever saw whenever you went into a
- 55:32Speaker 1: clubhouse in my idol was Pete Rose. And the thing
- 55:36Speaker 1: was I mowed. I don't know how many lawns to
- 55:40Speaker 1: get that Pete Rose rookie. I put it on layaway
- 55:42Speaker 1: for seven months, and I was crushed when I found out.
- 55:46Speaker 1: And here I am a gambler. And I always saw
- 55:49Speaker 1: myself listen, and then my dad looked at me straight
- 55:51Speaker 1: in the eyes, and listen, there's way and there's a
- 55:54Speaker 1: lot of other things to gamble on. Just stay away
- 55:56Speaker 1: from this sport. So I've always you you always want
- 56:00Speaker 1: to dabble in it because I have the advantage. I
- 56:02Speaker 1: always have the advantage. But I always been able to
- 56:05Speaker 1: stay away from it. And I just hope that my advice,
- 56:08Speaker 1: like Jeff says, there's little things are here and there
- 56:11Speaker 1: that the public just does not get. Um that that
- 56:16Speaker 1: Jeff and I can give to them. And I know
- 56:19Speaker 1: this football season, Jeff, Jeff got a way harder job
- 56:21Speaker 1: than me. The NFL isn't possible. I don't even know
- 56:24Speaker 1: how you play that anyway, because I try to play
- 56:26Speaker 1: and I get crushed every year. A lot of people
- 56:28Speaker 1: that I've talked to really love to play baseball, and
- 56:31Speaker 1: I'm really interested um to get involved and really interested
- 56:35Speaker 1: to give my opinion because I really there I can help.
- 56:38Speaker 1: So that was a great segue because you did a
- 56:39Speaker 1: story today about MLB season win totals, and explain a
- 56:45Speaker 1: little bit about what you looked at, because one thing
- 56:47Speaker 1: you did was talk about how you can't stand saber
- 56:50Speaker 1: metrics and that your ability to analyze the game comes
- 56:54Speaker 1: from having played the game and understanding players, which from
- 56:58Speaker 1: a betting perspective, savor metrics is just becoming more and
- 57:01Speaker 1: more important. Metrics generally are becoming more and more important
- 57:04Speaker 1: and even in the game out for people who want
- 57:06Speaker 1: to bet. So explain your philosophy and what you were
- 57:09Speaker 1: talking about this morning in the column where you were
- 57:10Speaker 1: picking teams like the Twins to be big winners from
- 57:14Speaker 1: an over perspective. Well, my, you know my my Twins selection.
- 57:19Speaker 1: I'm just looking at the division. You know, those tall
- 57:22Speaker 1: buildings and big casinos in Vegas for one reason, and
- 57:25Speaker 1: three teams in that division are projected to lose ninety games.
- 57:29Speaker 1: So I'm getting fifty plus games if I can get
- 57:32Speaker 1: a team that can go fifty two or you know,
- 57:36Speaker 1: wint of those games. I'm you know, I'm I'm on
- 57:40Speaker 1: third away home. But when it comes to the saber metrics,
- 57:44Speaker 1: some of the stuff I get. I like war. I
- 57:46Speaker 1: think war is legit thing. It tells me something. Winning players.
- 57:51Speaker 1: Um uh if you I'll give you an example. You
- 57:55Speaker 1: look at the Loyalist Chicago team that found the Sweet
- 57:58Speaker 1: sixteen that coaches noted for drafting players that win state championships.
- 58:03Speaker 1: There's seven kids on that team that win championships, that
- 58:07Speaker 1: once state championships to the recruits winners, they know how
- 58:10Speaker 1: to win games. I think war is okay. Now we
- 58:14Speaker 1: started getting the Decca and all these other stuff and
- 58:17Speaker 1: O B A and this that and and w X
- 58:21Speaker 1: this and death and lips and give me a braked
- 58:24Speaker 1: because here's what I'm gonna tell you, and Jeff will
- 58:27Speaker 1: tell you this too. Let me ask you a quick question,
- 58:31Speaker 1: or let me put you into a scenario. Say that
- 58:34Speaker 1: Zack Brinky goes out there and gets absolutely shredded in
- 58:38Speaker 1: the second ending and the Diamondbacks are down seven nothing,
- 58:42Speaker 1: and then a team comes back and make you the
- 58:46Speaker 1: seven sixth game, And now the Arizona uses their whole bullpen.
- 58:51Speaker 1: Now the manager's got to go up to the next
- 58:53Speaker 1: starter and say, hey, buddy, you got to eat some
- 58:56Speaker 1: innings for the bulk then regardless what happened, oh day.
- 59:00Speaker 1: So now here's a guy that now in the fifth
- 59:03Speaker 1: inning is not having one of his best games, and
- 59:05Speaker 1: now he has to stay out there for the sixth
- 59:07Speaker 1: and seventh inning because he's eating it up for his
- 59:09Speaker 1: team because he doesn't want to tax the bullpen because
- 59:13Speaker 1: they got a bigger series coming up. So his eggit
- 59:15Speaker 1: velocity went down those two innings, and that's gonna scuwe
- 59:18Speaker 1: his eggit velocity for the rest of the year. There's
- 59:21Speaker 1: so many different components. How about a guy that flew
- 59:25Speaker 1: from l A all the way to New York and
- 59:27Speaker 1: then it's got to get on a flight. After that flight,
- 59:30Speaker 1: it's got to start that game. You think he's gonna
- 59:32Speaker 1: be a tiny bit fatigue. Maybe his egg velocity was
- 59:35Speaker 1: down that way. There's there's things that drive me nuts
- 59:40Speaker 1: because the elements come in to play. What about the
- 59:45Speaker 1: tough matchups to be a different matchup? Could be this
- 59:49Speaker 1: that the variables are beyond what they're trying to come
- 59:53Speaker 1: up with. Groundball ray, this fall rate, that's ball ray.
- 59:57Speaker 1: You gotta be out of your mind. You're you're it's
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: it's apples to freaking oranges. Okay, if this guy gave
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: up a zillion ground ball, was great. How about one
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: year he gave up some groundballs that were actually twenty
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: more seeing I hit. Then then last year, guess what
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: he sucks and guess what a two eight hitter goes
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: up to three if those go go through. That's been
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: the small minimal part that can make or break a
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: savor metric. A savor mestric to me, of any sports,
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: I said, let me let me rephrase that, not a
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: favorite metric, but of all sports, luck is involved. You
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: create your own luck. I I do believe that as
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: long as you keep hitting balls hard. But luck has
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: involved a lot in in baseball. When it comes to
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: um pitching. One of my biggest step peeves is when
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: a guy gives up too broken bat hits, and then
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: then then then the then the then the manager comes
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: and takes him out. Oh so if they were caught
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: and they were bullets, you'd leave them in. So the
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: contact rates and all this groundball rates, it's it's subject
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: to everything. What happened, that's minus five degrees out and
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: they're playing a game. I'm sure there's gonna be not
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: a lot of contact rate that day, So you can't
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: put it all in the per perspective, you can't jump
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: it all in. And then when you start reading these articles,
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: I'm literally in my head spinned by inspector Gadget. Jeff,
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: I feel like you're gonna have an opinion on this
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: only because not necessarily for the metrics, but um, because
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: you are very active on Twitter and very thoughtful in
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: going back at people on conventional wisdom of what they
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: think should be done, and based on what you think
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: should be done based on what you know about the
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: game and how like, from what a holding penalty is
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: to whether or not so Quan Barkley should be drafted
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: number one overall? Oh out, Well, the Barclay think is ridiculous.
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: He should be drafted not number one. I mean we
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: kind of know that now. I think some mock drafts
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: even push him down to like five six set, which
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: just suited for running back. Um. I don't know if
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: I pushed back on conventional wisdom, but I think there's
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: a lot of morons on Twitter, um, and that's possible.
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: But really, here's the thing, and here's the thing, and this.
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: There are writers that I love who have never played
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: football before, but they don't try to break down plays,
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: right They there, and there's a lot of them that
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: are there. There's They're very good and I follow them
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: and they know that I like their work, but they
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: don't try to like break down plays. And then when
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: people come at me and try to tell me that
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: I don't know what I'm talking about or I don't
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: know because of or whatever reason, I don't take comming
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: in to that because I think I'm good at my job,
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: and especially when becomes offensive line play, you're not going
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: to challenge me on that. And you know what thing
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: it does bother me. And I know the guys that
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: Pro Football focuses well at PFF, I know them well, um,
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: but you know, I give my opinion and then someone says,
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: well pe FF ranked them X Oh my god, guys, Like,
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: here's the deal with PFF. I think they do some
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: fantastic work. I use them often when I write because
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: they produce stats that I can't produce. I can't produce
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: down for the accuracy for quarterbacks, I can't I can't
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: produce that I can't produce, you know, a cornerbacks rate
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: of of you know, being beaten coverage. I can't produce that. UM.
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: But what I think it's important when you look at
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: the at the at the same metrics analytics of football,
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: is you have to have the film to back it up.
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: So if I say, for example, out Alex Smith was
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: the best this year at deep ball passing, which is
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: shocking because it's you don't think it would be that,
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: what kind of season? So if I say that, I
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: better have some film to show that he can do that,
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: um or vice versa, I better have film and then
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: I could look back at the stats. So I think
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: that in football, film will always be number one. It
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: will always be number one. You can look at the
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: at the at the anti it x to confirm what
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: you've seen on film, or maybe sometimes it opens your okay, well,
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: and I think this guy, like especially Alex Smith, you know,
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: people will be like, well, he can't throw deep and
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: I'd be like, no, no, no, you know the stats
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: that he can, and abviously the film backed it up
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: as well. So I think it's important to blend those two.
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: I think far too often people rely on the player
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: grades that PFF has and other websites, and when the
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: protein and what there is proteins by their data, don't
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: buy the player grades and buy all the other stuff
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: that I can't even see. I've seen some of it. Actually,
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: it's very it's very very detailed. It's very good work.
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: It's stuff. It's grunt work that that programs just do
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: forever with personnel stuff and match ups that you can't do.
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: It cuts it cuts hours away from your day to
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: just buy it from PFF. That's pre accurate, I think.
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: So that type of stuff is fantastic. But just to
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: come at me if I get my opinion on someone
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: and saying well, PFF has the ranked here, that drives
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: me up a wall. Alright. So both of you had
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: pieces out this week that had strong opinions. Um, Paul,
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: we talked a little bit about the Twins and you
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: made some good thoughts there. People. I saw people responding
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: on Twitter loving the idea that you were all over
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: the Twins. Um, you also were all over the Red Sox.
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: Give me your reason on the Red Sox. Well, you know,
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: the Red Sox for me are just getting overlooked. The
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: bump from the Yankees, is it legit. Yes, Um, but
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: let's read into it. Okay, we're gamblers, right. You go
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: on any website, who has the top five starting rotation Yankees?
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: Who has the top side five line up the Yankees?
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: Who's got the top five bullpen the Yankees? And to me,
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: it's almost like it's just so much that I think
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: a lot of people forget that the Boston won the
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: division were the lame duck manager. Um. God, we still
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: don't know what what went on in that clubhouse. And
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: with my experience with Alex and and what I wrote
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: in the piece is true. I'm not fabricating one thing
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: you need to yes the manager. One thing you're not
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: gonna get. You know, I'm gonna tell you like it is.
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: And I'm a little bit like Jeff. If you're gonna
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: you're gonna disagree with me, I'll listen to your opinion.
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: If it's educated, then i'm gonna like it. If it's
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: in there's idiots on Twitter. And if you're gonna come
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: at me with a stupid something, I'm gonna bury you.
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: But it's you know, my experiences. Alex Cora comes from
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: a family where his brother went to Vanderbilt, very very
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: intelligent from Puerto Rico. He went to the University of Miami.
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: Both of them got degrees. They're very, very intelligent. They
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: both played very long careers with very limited talent. Maybe
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: Joey was scored lower than Alex, and I think a
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: lot of people forget that Alex had the game winning
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: hit in the College World Series before Warren Morris hit
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: a home run for l s U to win the game.
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: A lot of people remember he was the one that
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: was laying on the ground behind shortstop. Next thing you know,
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: we draft get him in the Los Angeles Dodgers. Now
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: I had been in the organization for a couple of years.
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: Mike Socie had cut me back to be a catcher,
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: went back to a ball um and it was devastating.
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: But I got to play with Alex, and then I
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: came up the ranks a ball double, a triple A
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: and listen, he was not a great hitter, a lifetime
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: to forty hitter. He couldn't run, but if you hit
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: it at him, you were out. But his baseball i
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: Q was insane. He made it up with when you're
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: a catcher, you're able to see the whole field. When
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: the guy would swing. He would have two steps to
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: the left and the ball would be hit to his left.
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: His instincts were phenomenal, and he's always been a guy
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: to me that like when I grew up with them
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: and then we played together with the Dodgers, that he
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: would always be in my ear and I was always
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: in my ear, and we were always on the same page.
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: He thought like a catcher. Whenever when I was in trouble,
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: I would look at him. I would go to the
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: mound and and call him over and say, Alex, what
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: do you think we should call here? What are you seeing?
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: Because I trusted him not much. And I just think
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: that would happen last year in Boston with with their manager,
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: and we still don't know what happened. I think their
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: injuries are gonna be a little bit better, and I
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: they think j. D. Martinez is They're going a little
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: berserk on j. D. Martiniz because he played in Arizona
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: and a lot of people are gonna realize that Arizona
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: is the best hitting ballpark maybe in the big leagues
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: besides Philly when Philly is not cold. I just think
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: him bringing over a bullpen coach was a big deal
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: for me. I don't think I've ever in my lifetime
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: seen a bullpen coach take another bullpen coach job after
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: winning the World Series. Um And it wasn't like he resigned.
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: It wasn't like the Astros pushed him out. He came
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: over with Alex, so I think immediately the bull then
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: that's Craig the Oranson is going to get a lot better.
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: And Ron Rennicky when I played with Alex with the
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: San Antonio missions was our manager. And of all the
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: people that I played with nine to ten years in
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: the minor league, he was my best manager. And he
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: won ninety one games before Prince Fielder left and the
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: whole Ryan bron the buckle. So he sort of got
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: pushed out of Milwaukee. If you go look at his record,
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: it was not bad. After they lost Braun, he hung
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: in there. I mean, excuse me Fielder. Then all the
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: Broun controversy happened, and then Craig Counsel took over and
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: and that's that. But Ron Rennicky was the bench coach
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: with Joe Madden and Mike Sosha, so he surrounded himself
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: with guys he's played with. Tom Goodwin's his first base coach.
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: I just think that clubhouse is gonna have so much
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: fun and and and they're gonna enjoy their job. And
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: Alex is a National League guy. Ron Rennicky's a National
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: League guy. I think they'll run a little more to
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: scratch out some more runs because they need to. That's
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: one thing they're concerned. But I do think David Price
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: holds the key. But for nine wins in that division.
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: I know a lot of people are on on on
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: Toronto and I was very close. They were like my
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: four A because I think they're good. But the the
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: Anlis is going to be very very good this year.
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: But I just think you're getting very good value what
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: Boston and my angle is the coaching staff is gonna
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: help out a ton and make those kids play looser.
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: That is some freaking insight, man, Jeff, Like you got
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: your NFL totals up, you did uh three teams you
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: were eying the unders four I'm gonna give you. I'm
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: gonna give you the last word. And it's gonna have
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: to be better than what Laduca just did. And what's
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: exciting is what it's setting is you have like surprising
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: teams on that list, like some teams that most people
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: would never bet against. Well, yeah, but unders for sure. Um, okay, well, look,
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: I think it comes down and I'll start with the
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: team that no one that no one would bet against,
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: and that's the Patriots. Well, last year I bet over fourteen.
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: It was over. It was over fourteen wins. I think
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: I bet no. Thirteen a half wins. I bet over.
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: I thought they'd win a lot of games last year,
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: and then you realized, you know what, They're just not
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: that talented anymore. And a lot of what they do
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: revolves around Tom Brady just being better. If you watched
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: the first four or five weeks, zero defense or defense
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: improved a little bit. Then the Super Bowl again, when
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: you're two weeks to prepare for them, that the defense
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: didn't show up. They have no pass for us. They
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: get a young, a young defensive linement back from injury.
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: They signed Adrian Claiborne, a linebacker. They get high tower back,
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: but the other guys can't run. They have no one
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: that can. They can guard running backs. And he lost
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: Malcolm Butler to find Gilmore. Maybe he has best play
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: of the entire season against Jackson on the playoffs. He
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: was kind of subpart last year of paying them all
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: that money. You lost your left tackle. And Brady's played
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: with two left tackles his entire career, Matt Light and
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: Nate Soldier. You're probably gonna draft a tackle. There's only
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: there's really only one tackle right now in college. They
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: can come in and be a Day one starter, and
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: that's Mike Mcgwinchieaf of Motor Dame. He might be there
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: at thirty one. I've seen some mock drafts put him there. Um,
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: you now lost Dion Lewis, who went to Tennessee with
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: Butler as well, and he's um, he's kind of they're
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: due all back, right, he can run out of the backsfield.
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: He's to give Patch Caster all their guys pass catchers.
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: They're running backs. Um so to me and Tom Brady
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: forty one And if you watch a little bit of
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: that his documentary, he could tell that the end is near.
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: He can even tell when he's playing. You know, he
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: doesn't move as well anymore. But the end of the
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: year he I think he was wearing two knee braces.
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: He tore his thumb up in a in an injury
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: um before before the uh the Jacksonville game, look he
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: played great set five year Suita Bowl. I think he
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: can still swing the rock. But at some point, man,
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: all these defections are going to cause a problem. And
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: partly I can I can basically say take the under
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: two because their their number is gonna be like twelve again. Um,
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: and they go eleven and five, that's still gonna win
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: the Probably the East. Miami is a dumpster fire. I
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: wrote them as one of the teams that could positively
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: the worst in the NFL this year. They have no
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: vision right now. They have a ton of wide receivers
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: and no one to throw the ball to them, and
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: and no do It's a it's a disaster down there.
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: You know. Buffalo and New York are kind of in
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: quarterback limbo. So the Patriots can win eleven games next
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: year and still win the East. Um. I said that.
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: I just put under because of how high I think
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: they're They're over under will be eventually when it gets out. Um,
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: you know, I don't see them really going lower than
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: ten games, maybe ten and six with a minimum for them.
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: That's why I put them on there. But I just
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: I just think it's it's it's getting there. I think
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: there's some friction in the facility. I think the article
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: that was written about them is mostly going to be true. Um,
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: and they are going to struggle next year. I mean,
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: and struggle is relative, right, I mean eleven and five
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: for them is typically a struggle. Right. They don't. They'll
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: finish eleven five very often. Other team in there that's
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: very popular is the Seahawks. And look, Russell Wilson can't
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: keep doing this himself. He accounted for thirty seven of
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: the thirty eight touchdowns for the Seahawks last year. He
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: counted for over eight of their total offense, you know,
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: rushing and passing. He run around for his life back there.
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: He had countless fourth quarters. We had to come back
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: and make big plays to help this team win. The
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: amount of weapons that have been lost in Seattle is tremendous.
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: You all, Sherman Richardson, Michael Bennett, Um, Jimmy Graham, Paul,
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: there's so many guys. They didn't bring anyone in. They've
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: done nothing. They brought an offensive lineman, d J. Fluger Um,
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: and that's it. They have holes all over their offensive line. Still.
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: They have brand new coaches all over the roster um
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: and look at the forty Niners have gone better, the
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: Rams have gone better. At the Arizona will still be
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: a little down, but they're they're in the market for
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: a young quarterback, I believe. And I think it's over
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: in Seattle. Dynasties are very short lived in the NFL.
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: If you take out the Patriots and maybe the Steelers,
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: and Seattle's ran their course and they're going to have
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: the legion of boom back there they are. They're gonna
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: have Russell Wilson again running for his life. Um, and
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: I just don't see how they win all games next
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: year over in Seattle. That's the headline right there. I
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: think you did, okay. I I think I like to pick.
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: Here's the thing. You you know just as much Chad,
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: who don't you want to punch that who wins? Whenever
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: you're on the site or whatever you're on, You're like,
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: I don't want to punch that one. You don't want
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: to punch Cleveland over? He wrote that Cleveland's gonna go over.
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: I love it because Josh board for a second. Games
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: you don't want to press New England under. Let's be honest.
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: So those are the type of games that you'd like
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: to get the opinion on or the type of teams
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: because no one wants to punch them, and those are
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: the teams that are win. You know that you sat
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: there before and go, I can't punch it, but I
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: want to, you know what I mean? Well, I think
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: I just think there's there's always there's is a team
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: the under cheese, like like the Giants did last year,
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: that to me is gonna be the Seahawks. It's always
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: a team that comes out. I know we're like the Bears,
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: like the Rams did last year. And yet betting over
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: for Cleveland seems ridiculous. I bet him over last year
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: that didn't do me any good. But talking to their players,
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: I mean, they have a quarterback at all competent, they're
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: very talented. I think people underestimate and they had been
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: a defense last a run defense that was really really
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: talented and was at one point the year historically good
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: and they're gonna get better and I like the way
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: they're doing with their GM. And look, it's not a
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: popular pick, but I'm okay with with betting against the public.
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: I've already jumped on And for you, I I bought
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: your I read your art, going I already jumped on
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: I jumped on it, and I'm with you. Oh my god.
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: See what we're doing here at the Action Network. We're
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: bringing people together. This is what we do. Gotta you
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: gotta take it. You gotta take it, listen, sold I
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: mean I I like it. I think Josh Gordon is
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: one of the top five players in the league. He
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: hit top fide receivers in the league. He's a game changer.
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: He can want when you won too three games. I
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: saw him with Chris, with with Kaiser, almost won a
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: couple of games with Shaan Kaiser, and they're gonna get
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: something better than that. He's right, They're gonna they're You're
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: You're better. I mean, I love it. I love it
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: anti team that no one's gonna want to punch and
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: and I think it's a great play. All right, boys,
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: I think you both did excellent work for your first
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: couple of days as members of the Action Network, and
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: we will be bringing back pro Athlete to Gamble. I
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: think there's gonna be a spinoff, just your own podcast.
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: So thanks for doing this, Fellows. I appreciate it. Great trouble.
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: Thanks thanks for having me too. Betw
