- 0:00SPEAKER_06: Welcome to Becoming Saiyans, a Dragon Ball Rewatch podcast.
- 0:06SPEAKER_02: And we're back.
- 0:07SPEAKER_02: I'm Truman.
- 0:08SPEAKER_02: And I'm Jizzy.
- 0:09SPEAKER_02: And this is Becoming Saiyans, a Dragon Ball Rewatch podcast.
- 0:12SPEAKER_02: On today's episode, we watched episodes 118 and 119 of Dragon Ball titled Prelude to Vengeance and Battlecry.
- 0:23SPEAKER_02: Uh Prelude to Vengeance came out on July 6th, 1988, and in America, September 29, 2003.
- 0:30SPEAKER_02: Whereas Battlecry came out on July 20th, 1988, and September 30th, 2003.
- 0:36SPEAKER_02: Um jumping into differences from the manga and trivia.
- 0:40SPEAKER_02: Jesse, what's the first trivia difference?
- 0:43SPEAKER_02: The fingers still?
- 0:44SPEAKER_02: Still the fingers.
- 0:46SPEAKER_02: Uh the next one is about Sano not being in the city that this is all happening in.
- 0:51SPEAKER_02: She's watching on the TV.
- 0:53SPEAKER_02: So this is, you know, because the anime expanded her role of being there, she's shown in the hospital at one point with Ader, who also didn't show up in the manga at all.
- 1:03SPEAKER_02: And they are watching the message while they're treating a man.
- 1:06SPEAKER_02: Uh more people are shown reacting in horror to Piccolo's declaration.
- 1:10SPEAKER_02: Just kind of extended that a little bit, you know.
- 1:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:13SPEAKER_02: Uh the scene of Ox King and Chi Chi arguing about who can defeat Piccolo isn't in the manga.
- 1:19SPEAKER_02: Yajirobi wanting his own Nimbus cloud to go hunt for food, then falling through, isn't in the manga, as is as is his meeting with Bora and Opa.
- 1:29SPEAKER_02: In the manga, when Bulma contacts Tien to tell him to not let Piccolo go to West City, Tien vocally expresses to her that he won't allow her to recur.
- 1:37SPEAKER_02: In the anime, though, he thinks it to himself without directly saying it.
- 1:41SPEAKER_02: Also in the manga, Tien tells the others that Shenarum was killed by Piccolo after getting his wish.
- 1:46SPEAKER_02: But the anime excludes this because they already knew that from the first time.
- 1:49SPEAKER_02: But this is where he would in the manga told them about that.
- 1:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but he had already said it before.
- 1:53SPEAKER_02: The scene of West City civilians pa panicking while getting out is not in the manga.
- 1:58SPEAKER_02: All of those scenes, it sounds like isn't in the manga.
- 2:01SPEAKER_06: Which we kind of deduced while watching it.
- 2:03SPEAKER_06: Or guessed, I guess.
- 2:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 2:04SPEAKER_02: The also also the appearances of Dr.
- 2:06SPEAKER_02: Brief and Bikini and all of their stuff is not in the manga.
- 2:11SPEAKER_02: The three uh convicts who raid Kamehause only to be beaten back by Yamcha and Launch aren't in the manga, but it does lead to a can't the canon scene of spurring Yamcha to go help Tien against Piccolo.
- 2:25SPEAKER_02: So Yamcha was already planning to get like in the manga, Yamcha goes that way.
- 2:29SPEAKER_02: This just tells us how he got there.
- 2:32SPEAKER_02: It's added, but it's not like it's it's more backstory.
- 2:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 2:35SPEAKER_06: It's the type of filter that we don't hate.
- 2:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 2:38SPEAKER_02: Uh last difference in the first episode is in the manga, Tien sees that the electric jar has been cracked due to his practice, and with the damage he says he'll never be able to use the jar to seal Piccolo and decides to fight head on.
- 2:51SPEAKER_02: This doesn't occur in the anime, and he's still shown to have the jar with no cracks in it.
- 2:56SPEAKER_02: When he lands on the ground, he strategizes how to get close enough so he can use the wave before Piccolo creates drum.
- 3:02SPEAKER_02: Jumping out of trivia, we have two characters from Akira Toriyama's one-shot escape appear while everybody's evacuating West City in Panic.
- 3:12SPEAKER_02: The three convicts were precinctly or the previously seen uh and a group of fighters waiting outside of Fortune Teller Baba's palace.
- 3:19SPEAKER_02: The Mohawk Fighter and the Mohawk Fighter was previously seen by Yamcha, or previously seen being eliminated by Yamcha in the 22nd uh martial arts.
- 3:28SPEAKER_02: And the Sunglasses Crocodile was the one that was sunbathing in the Nimbus Cloud of Roshi episode on the Kame House.
- 3:35SPEAKER_06: Oh nice.
- 3:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so all three of them have been around, you know?
- 3:39SPEAKER_02: And then we have two of the drivers that were fleeing West City looked like uh Haiskeys followers or Haski, can't remember how we say your name, the thief from those episodes a million years ago.
- 3:50SPEAKER_02: Um given the location and circumstances of Piccolo's rule, it is possible that they might even be them, because the animal driver is shown to be a grizzly bear instead of a boar, though.
- 4:00SPEAKER_02: Uh Piccolo names May 9th to be Piccolo Day in the manga and the Japanese anime, but the English changes it to May 13th due to the number 9 not having the same stigma uh and culture as it does in the Japanese anime.
- 4:14SPEAKER_02: Oh, it's like it's an unlucky number.
- 4:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and like 13's an unlucky number.
- 4:18SPEAKER_02: I guess that makes sense.
- 4:19SPEAKER_02: So that's why they moved it.
- 4:21SPEAKER_02: Also, the reason why it's also the reason why s uh West City sector has changed from 29 to 28, even though the slip of paper clearly shows the Romanized number.
- 4:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 4:31SPEAKER_02: Um Scratch Dr.
- 4:32SPEAKER_02: Brief's cat is first is named for the first time.
- 4:35SPEAKER_02: The cat never has a name in the manga.
- 4:38SPEAKER_02: But that's just one of the one of the there.
- 4:41SPEAKER_02: And jumping down to the second episode, differences in trivia.
- 4:44SPEAKER_02: Jesse, what is the first difference?
- 4:46SPEAKER_02: Uh it's it's definitely not the fingers.
- 4:48SPEAKER_02: It is the fingers.
- 4:49SPEAKER_02: Oh man, I thought I was gonna get right that down.
- 4:52SPEAKER_02: Um and then West City's evacuation is filler, as is Bullman calling bikini just to be talked and then hanging up.
- 4:58SPEAKER_02: Uh and the manga, we talked about this just a second ago.
- 5:01SPEAKER_02: The jar is damaged, it's uh rendered useless, but in this episode, you know, he tries before using the wave to try to get drum, and then, you know, uh Piccolo destroys it with one of his beams.
- 5:13SPEAKER_02: But that helps Tien survive because he actually didn't use the wave, you know.
- 5:17SPEAKER_02: Uh Goku encountering Chi Chi and Ox King saving them from being killed by the King's guard is filler.
- 5:24SPEAKER_02: Yamcha gathering supplies is also filler.
- 5:26SPEAKER_02: This also shows launch and Bulma volunteering to go with him.
- 5:29SPEAKER_02: Piano advising Piccolo to leave the fight, which is com or leave the fight to go to attack West City, which is completely gone, like deserted at this point.
- 5:37SPEAKER_02: Only for Piccolo to say he wants to see Tien suffering is filler.
- 5:42SPEAKER_02: He does attempt to leave when it has seemed when it seems that Tien has been defeated.
- 5:46SPEAKER_02: Trivia.
- 5:47SPEAKER_02: A character who looks similar to Mercenary Tales Taylor appears in this episode.
- 5:51SPEAKER_02: This is the first time that we see uh Pi one of Piccolo's kind bleed and see that they have purple blood.
- 6:00SPEAKER_02: Um despite Drum being killed, Piccolo does not appear to ex uh experience any pain like he did when Simple and Tambourine were killed.
- 6:08SPEAKER_02: So that's all the trivia and the differences.
- 6:10SPEAKER_02: So, Jesse, previously on Dragon Ball.
- 6:15SPEAKER_02: Piccolo is now decided that May the 13th in America is considered Piccolo Day.
- 6:22SPEAKER_02: And what do we do on Piccolo Day?
- 6:24SPEAKER_02: Every year I'm gonna draw a number out of the hat and go destroy that sector.
- 6:28SPEAKER_02: And that sounds like a fun time for me, so that's what we're gonna do.
- 6:32SPEAKER_02: So that's the whole plan here is Piccolo's about to leave the sector that he is in, his castle, and go to West City, which is the one that he draws.
- 6:39SPEAKER_02: Who lives in West City that we know?
- 6:41SPEAKER_02: Well, Bulma.
- 6:42SPEAKER_02: And she's not there right now, but her family is.
- 6:44SPEAKER_02: And so she calls, she keeps trying to call to get them to leave the house.
- 6:48SPEAKER_02: Um, but we know how that's gonna go with those two idiots running around.
- 6:52SPEAKER_02: It's gonna take them way too long to get out of the house.
- 6:54SPEAKER_02: But while that's going on, we also have Tien flying at breakneck speed to go try to slow down Piccolo to give everybody a chance to leave, and also use the containment wave.
- 7:03SPEAKER_02: And Goku is also flying to go stop Piccolo, even though he doesn't know what he's stopping him from, he just doesn't want him to exist anymore.
- 7:10SPEAKER_02: He's gonna go kill this guy.
- 7:12SPEAKER_02: Um some fun stuff happens with Yadjurobi trying to get a Nimbus Cloud, he falls through and doesn't get one, obviously.
- 7:18SPEAKER_02: Chi Chi and the Ox King distract Goku for a minute uh before Goku continues on his way.
- 7:25SPEAKER_02: And Yamcha and uh Launch fight off some people who break into the Kame House, and that's what tells Yamcha that he needs to go try to help as well, because like what am I doing when I'm just sitting around doing nothing while my the only two the only person I know that's still alive is out there getting his butt kicked.
- 7:42SPEAKER_02: And at the end, when all seems lost, uh because uh our Piccolo sees Tien and uh Tien tries to stop Piccolo, uh so he creates a new monster named Drum, and that's enough to stop Tien, but he does try to shoot off the um the evil containment wave, but Piccolo destroys the electric jar.
- 8:05SPEAKER_02: And with that, the all hope is lost except for who shows up in just the nick of time, Goku, who kills Drum, and that's where we leave this episode at.
- 8:15SPEAKER_02: And that's what you missed on Dragon Ball, Jesse.
- 8:17SPEAKER_02: Go for it.
- 8:18SPEAKER_06: It is, as I said while we were reading like the Factoids, not entirely surprising, at least to me, and I think to you as well, that I would say probably sounds like 60-ish percent of both of these episodes is completely made up for the anime.
- 8:33SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 8:33SPEAKER_06: And I might be lowballing it still.
- 8:36SPEAKER_06: But I'm like, you know.
- 8:38SPEAKER_06: But not all of it is necessarily bad.
- 8:43SPEAKER_02: I think but it's still pretty easy to tell.
- 8:46SPEAKER_02: My thought on process about these episodes is that you've they've already got so many plates.
- 8:53SPEAKER_02: I wrote down I wrote down a different metaphor in my notes, which was that they have a lot of hanging threads they're gonna have to tie up, but it's more like they got a bunch of sp like spinning plates in the air, and they're just gotta keep them going.
- 9:04SPEAKER_02: And it's not these episodes' fault that there's a million plates flying around in the air, but there's a million plates flying around the air, and we can't let them hit the ground, so we gotta keep going with them.
- 9:13SPEAKER_02: So it's like this is these two episodes are the consequences of like the last eight having having uh uh over an hour of filler in the last eight episodes.
- 9:24SPEAKER_02: Is it the consequences of my actions?
- 9:26SPEAKER_02: Oh no, the field has grown and I have to reap what I laid down.
- 9:31SPEAKER_02: Reap what you sow.
- 9:32SPEAKER_02: That's what these episodes are.
- 9:33SPEAKER_02: Luckily, by the end of these episodes, we have th it seems like we're setting up for three good, like basically full-on fight episodes.
- 9:41SPEAKER_06: Which I guess we should just get out of the way here.
- 9:43SPEAKER_06: I think we mentioned it last episode.
- 9:44SPEAKER_06: We're gonna mention it again.
- 9:46SPEAKER_06: Next week will be a three-episoder.
- 9:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so we've got three episodes of probably just one long fight over three episodes.
- 9:54SPEAKER_02: One long fight interconnecting with like Yamsha and everybody else worrying and us trying to tie these loose ends together.
- 10:01SPEAKER_06: Apparently we also decided we wanted to add Bulma's parents, so they're probably gonna be here for a second, too.
- 10:05SPEAKER_02: We gotta we gotta stick the landing on these episodes.
- 10:08SPEAKER_02: And that's that's kind of the thing with this these episodes.
- 10:11SPEAKER_02: They're not bad, but they can't be good.
- 10:14SPEAKER_02: Like, you know, that that's kind of the problem.
- 10:16SPEAKER_02: There's just so much, but not like so much good stuff going on that it's good.
- 10:20SPEAKER_02: It's just it they're packed full of stuff.
- 10:23SPEAKER_02: You heard my recap like two minutes ago.
- 10:25SPEAKER_02: It's like I'm like, oh yeah, and then this thing happened.
- 10:28SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, and then this thing.
- 10:29SPEAKER_02: Oh, there's so much stuff you have to remember is going on.
- 10:32SPEAKER_06: I I feel like it's uh a might be a bad way to do it, but it's kind of where I'm going is like it's like when you see a really bag bag of chip, like a family-sized bag of chips for the first time when you're a really little kid, and you get really excited because that's so much chips, and then you open the bag and you're like, Where'd all the chips go?
- 10:51SPEAKER_06: Why are the chips not all the way filling the bag?
- 10:54SPEAKER_06: That could you get really you get really sad because you're like, this isn't really going anywhere.
- 10:59SPEAKER_06: There's not a lot of substance here, but when on the outside, if you're just scanning, you know, the horizon of these episodes, you're like, wow, there's so much stuff.
- 11:09SPEAKER_02: Jesse, I cannot agree with you more on your metaphor here.
- 11:12SPEAKER_02: Because think about it this way the label of the bag of chips is the Krillin death and Goku flying off to go still go fight whoever it is.
- 11:20SPEAKER_02: You're like, oh my gosh, this is gonna be some crazy stuff going on.
- 11:24SPEAKER_06: You open the bag and it's just like it's like halfway, like you somehow end up with like the bag at the bottom of the box that got shipped three times internationally because they decided to make it in like Timbuktu.
- 11:37SPEAKER_02: Like you look inside and all you're getting is new stuff added, waste of time episodes, like random, like having to go down and fight darkness because Corin doesn't have the water right now.
- 11:50SPEAKER_02: Uh, you know, all of this stuff.
- 11:52SPEAKER_02: Goku getting his butt kicked, dying, not dying, then getting his butt kicked again, and then flying off.
- 11:59SPEAKER_02: It there's just so much in these episodes.
- 12:02SPEAKER_02: It's like, oh my god.
- 12:03SPEAKER_06: But like only so many of them are that like full chip.
- 12:06SPEAKER_06: I guess a greater, a better way to do that.
- 12:08SPEAKER_06: It's like it's opening a bag of chips and expecting a nice all these nice, beautiful, like regular classic layers.
- 12:15SPEAKER_06: Then you open up like 90% of these chips are like swooshed in half and crumbed.
- 12:20SPEAKER_06: But every now and then you get that one really good, like nice full chip, yeah, and you bite into it, you get that beautiful crunch.
- 12:27SPEAKER_06: Oh yeah.
- 12:28SPEAKER_02: That is a good chip.
- 12:29SPEAKER_02: You've sold me on this metaphor, like a hundred percent.
- 12:32SPEAKER_02: Like, if we're if we're judging this this arc as a chip bag, it is like a lace classic.
- 12:38SPEAKER_06: It's a lace classic that you get from a subway.
- 12:41SPEAKER_02: No, it's the new lace flavor.
- 12:43SPEAKER_02: No, no, no.
- 12:44SPEAKER_02: Take go follow me with it's a family-sized version of the newest lace flavor.
- 12:48SPEAKER_02: You're like, oh my gosh, this looks like the greatest bag of chips ever.
- 12:51SPEAKER_02: And then you realize you open it and it's just the the regular with like a hint of something added into it.
- 12:58SPEAKER_02: Like there's there's there's ingredients in this bag of chips.
- 13:01SPEAKER_02: It's a it's an extra salted classic bag of lace.
- 13:04SPEAKER_05: Like I it has a little bit more flavor, but it has the brand new sticker, so you're like, oh, this sounds good.
- 13:09SPEAKER_02: But there's pieces.
- 13:10SPEAKER_02: Maybe there is like a chip that got put in there by mistake that's like holding the.
- 13:15SPEAKER_02: You pull a Cheeto out at one point and you just get so excited.
- 13:18SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it's like I got a misprint bag, I can solve it for millions because of scalpers and stuff.
- 13:22SPEAKER_02: But it's you know, it's just one of those things where it's like, it is like all like all it has hints and ingredients of a good arc of show.
- 13:32SPEAKER_02: It's just the the ingredients are so too many co too far away, and there's too much uh extra crap in there to make it actually turn out to a good a good arc, you know?
- 13:43SPEAKER_06: To be satisfied.
- 13:44SPEAKER_02: Because like if I break it down to this, Krillin is dead, Goku's gonna go fight Piccolo, he has to be he loses, gets stronger, comes back, and who knows what's gonna happen because we haven't watched the last three episodes.
- 13:56SPEAKER_02: You would be like, that's a really good arc of show.
- 13:59SPEAKER_02: Who is this piccolo guy?
- 14:00SPEAKER_02: And you say, Oh, it's this green monster that's really freaking powerful, can like create versions of himself.
- 14:06SPEAKER_02: He's gonna become the ruler of the world for like a like a day or two in the show.
- 14:09SPEAKER_02: He gets his wish and also has killed every martial artist except for like three in the universe by the end of the episode.
- 14:17SPEAKER_02: Now we can know it.
- 14:17SPEAKER_02: Or three on Earth uh so far, because we can assume that uh Tambourine killed, or symbol, which I tambourine, right?
- 14:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, tambourine killed all of the martial artists except for Tien, Yamcha, and uh Goku.
- 14:30SPEAKER_02: He didn't kill Roshi and Chiatsu.
- 14:32SPEAKER_02: But Roshi and Chiatsu get killed by Piccolo.
- 14:35SPEAKER_02: Uh Tien is almost dead.
- 14:36SPEAKER_02: Yamcha has a broken leg.
- 14:38SPEAKER_02: So it's literally, by the end, it's Goku fighting for all of the world by himself against Piccolo.
- 14:43SPEAKER_06: You hear that and you're like, this sounds like a great, we're finally getting into like what like especially Dragon Ball Z ends up being a lot about, is just like, from my understanding, it just becomes a lot of Goku has to be prepared for this boss fight that he already lost.
- 14:59SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 14:59SPEAKER_06: Because he lost it to like episode three of this 30-episode arc.
- 15:03SPEAKER_02: But but like, yeah, the the thing is is if you just break it down to like the arc, what happens in the arc over the whole, like really big plotting points, it seems really good.
- 15:14SPEAKER_02: And then you break, you get into each individual episode, and it's like these there's just so much not that that's happening that just takes away from the overall hype that I have go like these last three episodes I'm hyped for because I'm like, we're getting probably a three-episode fight.
- 15:31SPEAKER_02: This it's actually it's gonna be what I've been excited to watch for this like a month and a half.
- 15:36SPEAKER_05: It's like doing these podcast episodes.
- 15:39SPEAKER_01: That's what we've been waiting for from SpongeBob.
- 15:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's like you love it when I put the martial arts in my martial arts show.
- 15:48SPEAKER_01: Who could have known?
- 15:50SPEAKER_01: It it really does feel like that.
- 15:52SPEAKER_01: And I know we've been pretty negative on these episodes, but like I had fun watching them.
- 15:57SPEAKER_06: I'll be totally honest.
- 15:59SPEAKER_06: For like a first coming in as a first-time viewer, did I have fun watching these episodes?
- 16:03SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 16:04SPEAKER_06: Was it glaringly obvious that I was about to get into uh trim reading off like trivia and fun facts?
- 16:10SPEAKER_06: And it's like fun fact, almost everything you just watched was completely made up.
- 16:14SPEAKER_02: And I think part of the reason that I'm so like okay with these episodes being mostly made up is like I said, the that's not the fault of these episodes.
- 16:23SPEAKER_02: It's the fault of the other 12 episodes before this that have all of these in the air.
- 16:27SPEAKER_06: The only thing you can fault these episodes for, in the smallest margin, is introducing the let's look at what happens when you know mildly incompetent people have to evacuate a city before they die.
- 16:43SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 16:44SPEAKER_06: But you at the same time, it's really kind of funny to watch that.
- 16:48SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 16:49SPEAKER_02: But the one thing that'll be the biggest, I think it's the not the worst part, but the biggest negative about the plate spinning thing here, the tying of loose ends, is think of all the named characters that we know that we see in this episode.
- 17:03SPEAKER_02: Like, let's go through.
- 17:04SPEAKER_02: We got Goku, we got Piccolo, we've got Piano, we've got Tien, we've got Brief Bikini, now Scratch has a name, but we're not gonna count that really.
- 17:12SPEAKER_02: Um you've got Ox King, Chi Chi, uh, Bora, Upa, Yajurobi, Corrin, um, Yamcha.
- 17:21SPEAKER_01: Yamcha, Bulma, Bom Long, Ulong, Pu'ar, Turtle.
- 17:26SPEAKER_02: But it's like 20 named characters over 40 minutes that all have something to do and something to say.
- 17:33SPEAKER_06: They all have at least one line of dialogue.
- 17:35SPEAKER_06: Because I think if I remember right, Turtle and Puar's like lines of dialogue happen in the same like five second span.
- 17:42SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 17:43SPEAKER_06: When they're watching the TV program.
- 17:45SPEAKER_02: We might have seen the king at some point.
- 17:47SPEAKER_02: Oh, we did see the king.
- 17:49SPEAKER_02: We also saw Tsuno and Ader.
- 17:50SPEAKER_02: That's another one.
- 17:51SPEAKER_06: Suno and Aider.
- 17:52SPEAKER_06: We saw the king, the king's watching Piccolo announce uh May 13th is Piccolo Day.
- 17:57SPEAKER_06: He's like, I'm gonna kill all these people.
- 17:58SPEAKER_05: He's like, You're gonna what?
- 18:01SPEAKER_05: Like it's like his oh no, the evil guy doing evil things.
- 18:06SPEAKER_01: And there's it's just there's so much.
- 18:09SPEAKER_01: There's so much in this these episodes.
- 18:11SPEAKER_05: Who could have guessed the man who took over my kingdom has said he's gonna kill everybody?
- 18:14SPEAKER_05: Has taken over my kingdom and he's gonna kill everybody.
- 18:18SPEAKER_05: But yeah.
- 18:19SPEAKER_05: Honestly, he he he's a sneak, sneaky, really funny character to watch react.
- 18:24SPEAKER_05: Cause it's it's such a like stupid person reacting to news.
- 18:28SPEAKER_05: It's like, oh man.
- 18:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 18:30SPEAKER_05: But by waiting for the baseball to hit me, it hit me.
- 18:34SPEAKER_02: But yeah, it's just like again, it like the only people in these episodes that weren't in previous episodes with plot, like with stuff going on, is Ox King and Chi-Chi.
- 18:45SPEAKER_02: The rest of these have been in episodes throughout this arc.
- 18:48SPEAKER_02: Because Ox King and Chi Chi Well, well, and Bulmo's parents.
- 18:51SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, and well, yeah, and Boma's parents.
- 18:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they haven't showed up since we were last at Bulmo's house, which was like, what, 70 episodes ago?
- 18:59SPEAKER_02: Before the the next tournament.
- 19:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 19:00SPEAKER_02: Like it was Fortune Teller Baba was like the first one.
- 19:03SPEAKER_02: We showed up to her house so we could figure out why her and Yamcha broke up.
- 19:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 19:07SPEAKER_02: And then we immediately left.
- 19:08SPEAKER_02: And then they went to go find Baba.
- 19:10SPEAKER_02: Like that was the thing.
- 19:11SPEAKER_02: Because they couldn't find the last Dragon Ball or whatever.
- 19:14SPEAKER_02: But yeah, it's just like there's so many named characters.
- 19:17SPEAKER_02: And it like.
- 19:19SPEAKER_02: And like I said, they they didn't need to add more, and they added four more named characters.
- 19:24SPEAKER_06: That's where we can fault them.
- 19:25SPEAKER_06: It's like we the cheat the Chi Chi and Ot King thing, it's like you could have just skipped doing that.
- 19:33SPEAKER_02: Knowing what's coming with them and the rest of the I don't think in these next three episodes.
- 19:39SPEAKER_06: Assuming what we think about these next is gonna happen in the next one.
- 19:42SPEAKER_02: I don't think they show up in the next three episodes, but like knowing what happens in the next arc and going onward, like in the last arc of Dragon Ball and going onward, you need to enter you need to show that they're still around so that the character so the people who started watching that weren't watching like the first 40 episodes.
- 19:57SPEAKER_02: But I guess that's the argument for it.
- 19:59SPEAKER_02: Because they do they do get a bigger role for this last arc.
- 20:04SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna go ahead and spoil that.
- 20:05SPEAKER_02: They show up a little bit more in the last arc.
- 20:07SPEAKER_06: Both her parents and Oxking and the channels.
- 20:09SPEAKER_02: I don't know about the parents.
- 20:10SPEAKER_02: The parents are just whatever.
- 20:11SPEAKER_02: But like the Oxking and Chi Chi get a little bit of an expanded role.
- 20:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but you can give them that leeway.
- 20:16SPEAKER_02: But as a first-time viewer, yeah, why are we showing up again?
- 20:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we haven't seen you guys in a hundred episodes.
- 20:22SPEAKER_02: Like basically like 80 episodes.
- 20:24SPEAKER_06: We haven't seen we haven't seen them since I think she tried to marry Goku.
- 20:27SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 20:27SPEAKER_02: And that was that was when it wasn't even Goku.
- 20:30SPEAKER_02: It was like somebody was pretending to be Goku.
- 20:32SPEAKER_02: It was uh Piloff.
- 20:33SPEAKER_06: It was P-Loff pretending to be Goku.
- 20:35SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 20:35SPEAKER_06: Pilot and Shu and then pretend to be.
- 20:37SPEAKER_02: It wasn't even Goku.
- 20:39SPEAKER_02: Like that was 60 that was during the red the blue or the the Red Ribbon saga.
- 20:45SPEAKER_02: It was like before we got to like the it the it was like one of the first Red Ribbon sagas.
- 20:50SPEAKER_02: When they were still fighting black or silver or whatever.
- 20:53SPEAKER_06: It was so long ago.
- 20:54SPEAKER_06: We didn't know who Aider was yet.
- 20:56SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 20:56SPEAKER_06: That's how long ago it was since we last saw Chi Chi and Asky.
- 20:59SPEAKER_06: And I guess unless we're somehow forgetting them being in like a reacting to the news uh flash through.
- 21:07SPEAKER_02: Without the meta without the meta commentary of we gotta introduce these characters because they're coming from.
- 21:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's like we we haven't seen them in 70 episodes.
- 21:14SPEAKER_02: What are you doing here?
- 21:15SPEAKER_02: Why are they plot relevant for the next like two minutes?
- 21:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they have a two minutes in the first episode and two minutes in the second episode.
- 21:22SPEAKER_02: First two minutes is like, I don't is anybody gonna stop him?
- 21:25SPEAKER_01: No, nobody can stop him.
- 21:27SPEAKER_03: I think Goku can stop him.
- 21:29SPEAKER_01: Oh no.
- 21:30SPEAKER_01: Goku can't stop.
- 21:31SPEAKER_05: Goku's gonna die.
- 21:34SPEAKER_05: Because they haven't seen how strong Goku is.
- 21:38SPEAKER_06: You haven't never seen Goku in like five years.
- 21:43SPEAKER_05: You haven't seen Goku forever.
- 21:45SPEAKER_02: And then the next important part is Goku shows up to save Oxkeem from getting killed.
- 21:49SPEAKER_04: And then at that moment they're like, hmm, maybe Goku Maybe Goku can beat the man.
- 21:55SPEAKER_04: And that's it.
- 21:56SPEAKER_04: That is I was wrong about the thing they put in for no reason.
- 22:00SPEAKER_04: Episode, but just to know that they were putting me in a this episode.
- 22:04SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 22:05SPEAKER_02: I needed to have doubts about him, so when he showed up, I could be surprised.
- 22:08SPEAKER_05: You're really bashing this, but it's like it's like, what's the point of putting them in there?
- 22:13SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 22:13SPEAKER_06: Without knowing again what you have said, where they they do become important again.
- 22:17SPEAKER_02: And knowing that and knowing and the meta metatextual, you gotta, you can't do it, it would be worse if they showed up in the next arc with a bigger role, and you're like, where the f- Like you haven't been watching.
- 22:27SPEAKER_02: So you started watching like episode 60.
- 22:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you're like, who are these people and why are they important?
- 22:33SPEAKER_02: Because I don't, I mean, they probably do a back uh a flashback because they're just showing the show.
- 22:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I don't remember flashbacks.
- 22:40SPEAKER_02: They're just poof out my because I remember the original stuff happening.
- 22:43SPEAKER_02: When you show it to me again, it's whatever.
- 22:44SPEAKER_02: It's in one ear out there for me.
- 22:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:47SPEAKER_03: So they probably do show a backstory and be like, yeah, well Goku, he uh saved me from the and saved my dad from the fire at the castle, and he's gonna marry me.
- 22:56SPEAKER_02: And it's gonna show all of that happening.
- 22:58SPEAKER_02: And it's like, oh, okay, like I guess who this person is.
- 23:01SPEAKER_02: Every episode is somebody's first, like Stanley used to say about Marvel Comics, you know.
- 23:05SPEAKER_02: So we gotta make sure every character is in it is introduced in every episode.
- 23:09SPEAKER_02: Um, especially ones that have been gone for a while.
- 23:11SPEAKER_02: But I don't remember that flashback, so without knowing there's a there might be a flashback coming, I'm going to say it would be worse if they were just if they showed up in the next one.
- 23:20SPEAKER_02: I could be there.
- 23:21SPEAKER_02: But again, it's it doesn't make it better now.
- 23:24SPEAKER_06: Doesn't make it better for someone who didn't know that was coming.
- 23:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 23:27SPEAKER_02: Um but yeah, it's like And then also the brief in bikini.
- 23:29SPEAKER_02: It's like, yes, we know they live in West City.
- 23:32SPEAKER_06: Yeah, is it kind of like are there more are I think when they are on the screen, is it funny and kind of enjoyable?
- 23:38SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 23:39SPEAKER_06: But right now, I don't necessarily think that's like entirely important because you know Tien is getting getting handed.
- 23:51SPEAKER_06: I I can I can give him some grace.
- 23:53SPEAKER_06: I give him it for as the palette cleanser in between seeing Tien getting beat up.
- 23:58SPEAKER_06: My my thing's not even I don't think he's getting beat up at that point.
- 24:01SPEAKER_02: My thing with it, we don't need to cut back to them as often, but them being added to these episodes, it's intentional.
- 24:07SPEAKER_02: Because it's intentional that he's going to go blow up West City.
- 24:10SPEAKER_02: And if you've been watching the show, you know Bulma's family lives in West City.
- 24:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 24:14SPEAKER_02: So it gives stakes to stopping Piccolo now.
- 24:17SPEAKER_02: Because if he gets there, knowing that her family or his mom, her mom and dad are freaking idiots, you know, they're they're probably still they're probably still in the house, the entire city's evacuated.
- 24:27SPEAKER_02: And brief and bikini are just like drinking tea and playing ping pong or something, you know?
- 24:32SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it I I wouldn't put it past like this situation.
- 24:36SPEAKER_06: It's like they're finally gonna leave their house as everyone shows up and be like, man, we beat Piccolo.
- 24:40SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 24:40SPEAKER_04: Oh, that's good.
- 24:41SPEAKER_04: We just unpack the car.
- 24:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's gonna be something like that because they're idiots.
- 24:47SPEAKER_02: But that doesn't, I mean Brief is like might be the smartest person in the unit or in the planet right now that we know of.
- 24:54SPEAKER_02: Not a lot of street smarts.
- 24:55SPEAKER_02: But he's an idiot.
- 24:56SPEAKER_02: Like at the same time, he holds both, but they're idiots, and so we gotta have this the um the stake.
- 25:02SPEAKER_02: The stakes are risen past like Piccola.
- 25:05SPEAKER_02: Piccolo already controls the earth.
- 25:07SPEAKER_02: Like that the stakes aren't any higher than that.
- 25:09SPEAKER_02: We gotta take out the king because but now we got personal stakes of like we don't want Bulmas family.
- 25:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we don't want Bulma's family to argue.
- 25:17SPEAKER_06: That's the that is like one of the arguments.
- 25:19SPEAKER_06: We don't need to go to them as often is the thing.
- 25:21SPEAKER_06: It's like we you could cut to them and be like, they're still not packed.
- 25:25SPEAKER_06: Yeah, moving on.
- 25:26SPEAKER_02: Keep cutting a few seconds here or there, but like Bulma trying to call them and not be able to get through.
- 25:31SPEAKER_06: The phone call is probably not the worst part because you know there's like Bulma checking up on your parents.
- 25:37SPEAKER_02: I think it would be guys gone.
- 25:38SPEAKER_02: I think it would be better if we they never answer the phone.
- 25:42SPEAKER_02: And she just keeps calling but can't get through.
- 25:44SPEAKER_02: And so she's like, I'm gonna stay by the phone, Yamcha, you go and do whatever.
- 25:48SPEAKER_02: I'm staying by the phone and trying to get a hold of my family.
- 25:51SPEAKER_06: See if they've left you.
- 25:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 25:52SPEAKER_02: And but every time she answers the phone, we cut like or we we show that, and when we show them like just messing around in the house and not answering the phone's just ringing and they're not answering, you know.
- 26:03SPEAKER_03: We don't need the scene where you're but Bikini's like And she's like uh I love you too.
- 26:12SPEAKER_01: Thanks, Mom.
- 26:13SPEAKER_02: We're gonna die.
- 26:14SPEAKER_02: It was funny, but it wasn't like the most important.
- 26:18SPEAKER_06: Doesn't want 100% redeem it.
- 26:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 26:21SPEAKER_02: And so, like, in general, like the plates that are in the air mostly aren't their fault.
- 26:27SPEAKER_02: But they they add they're like, well, everyone else has been adding plates to the air.
- 26:30SPEAKER_02: Why don't we throw a couple up there too?
- 26:32SPEAKER_02: Oh no, it's too many plates.
- 26:34SPEAKER_01: Can we get them all down safely?
- 26:37SPEAKER_01: Find out next week.
- 26:39SPEAKER_02: Dragon Ball.
- 26:41SPEAKER_02: No, I can't imagine watching this week to week, like one episode at a time.
- 26:45SPEAKER_02: Like some of these some of these episodes are just like oh boy, let's sit down and watch Dragon Ball.
- 26:51SPEAKER_01: Imagine like a mid-season break right now.
- 26:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 26:55SPEAKER_02: Oh boy, uh obviously they don't do that.
- 26:57SPEAKER_02: I'm I'm thinking they might have released these on seasonal, like the art the arcs are seasons.
- 27:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I don't remember checking them.
- 27:05SPEAKER_06: I know for a fact they didn't do that because as as you're reading off the dates, it's like, oh, it's always like either a week or whatever.
- 27:10SPEAKER_02: Or like a half week, maybe two weeks.
- 27:12SPEAKER_02: Maybe they have to take a week off because there was something else that wasn't taking their slot.
- 27:15SPEAKER_02: But yeah.
- 27:16SPEAKER_06: But these are always releasing it at a sequence.
- 27:18SPEAKER_02: It's pretty consistent.
- 27:19SPEAKER_02: But could you imagine being like a kid in Japan?
- 27:21SPEAKER_02: You're sitting down to watch this.
- 27:23SPEAKER_06: Can't wait for this episode of Dragon Ball.
- 27:25SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 27:25SPEAKER_06: And then the first episode 118 finishes, and you're like, nothing happened.
- 27:31SPEAKER_06: Yeah, literally.
- 27:32SPEAKER_06: All we know is that he's gonna go blow up the town.
- 27:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like Tien has just gotten there.
- 27:38SPEAKER_01: Like, he just started getting his butt kicked by drum at the end of the next episode.
- 27:42SPEAKER_06: At the end of episode 118, you get super hyped.
- 27:44SPEAKER_06: Like if you end up super like, oh man, I can't wait to watch like Tien and Drum go at it.
- 27:48SPEAKER_06: I hope Tien wins real fast because he's gotta stop him from going to blow up the city.
- 27:52SPEAKER_02: So they these episodes, I'm gonna give him this is a this is a positive.
- 27:56SPEAKER_02: I know we've been bashing these episodes a lot.
- 27:59SPEAKER_02: But these these two episodes both have a really good cliffhanger because drum shows up and it's like, what is Tien gonna do?
- 28:05SPEAKER_02: Now he has to fight like a piccolo, but and then also trap a piccolo.
- 28:09SPEAKER_02: Like he's gotta do two things at the same time.
- 28:11SPEAKER_02: It's like, oh my gosh, this is kind of some good stakes.
- 28:13SPEAKER_02: We find out that it kind of meanders in the second episode a little bit.
- 28:16SPEAKER_02: Like, well, he doesn't get to do it, but it's an epic cliffhanger.
- 28:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 28:19SPEAKER_02: Oh man, and then you wait till the next week.
- 28:21SPEAKER_02: Get to the end of the second episode, and it's like, oh boy, let's see what's about Goku just killed drum.
- 28:26SPEAKER_01: Let's see what's about to happen here.
- 28:28SPEAKER_01: Goku killed drum.
- 28:29SPEAKER_01: Both Tien and Piccolo are like, oh what?
- 28:32SPEAKER_01: Spill it out.
- 28:33SPEAKER_01: And just Tien's like, watch out, he's fast.
- 28:35SPEAKER_01: And Goku's just like, ugh Actually he kicks him.
- 28:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he kicks it in, he kicks right behind his head.
- 28:41SPEAKER_06: Just one one taps him.
- 28:43SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 28:43SPEAKER_06: And then like, Tien's like, not only is Goku not dead, he actually might do this.
- 28:48SPEAKER_06: And Piccolo's like, not only is he not dead, but I'm actually kind of scared again.
- 28:53SPEAKER_02: He he's he's like, oh, not this guy again.
- 28:56SPEAKER_02: And he's like, oh no, not this guy.
- 28:59SPEAKER_02: How many times I teach you this lesson, young man?
- 29:03SPEAKER_06: Oh no.
- 29:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:05SPEAKER_06: Oh thank God he doesn't know the the evil containment waiver.
- 29:09SPEAKER_06: I'd be really screwed.
- 29:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:11SPEAKER_02: But generally, there's just not like, you know, like the stuff that's in these episodes, like the other stuff that we're skipping over completely is just the reason we're skipping over is because there's just not a lot to talk about.
- 29:23SPEAKER_02: Like, it it's like this thing happened.
- 29:25SPEAKER_02: It's kind of in the discussion.
- 29:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:27SPEAKER_02: Like, oh, the Yadju Robi falling through the clouds is like, oh, he's gonna try to go grab a cloud.
- 29:32SPEAKER_02: Of course he's gonna fall through.
- 29:34SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 29:34SPEAKER_06: I didn't I I for a second I was like, I don't know what's funnier if he actually does successfully get a cloud, or if he doesn't.
- 29:41SPEAKER_06: It's probably better if he doesn't, but it would be a little bit funnier if like somehow, somehow, this man actually can ride a nimbus club.
- 29:48SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 29:49SPEAKER_06: And then he immediately falls through and I'm like, yeah, I probably shouldn't have.
- 29:52SPEAKER_01: He's not, he's actually completely pure of heart because his heart is purely on eating as food.
- 29:58SPEAKER_01: He's just purely about food.
- 30:00SPEAKER_01: He's pure food, you know?
- 30:01SPEAKER_01: His heart is like, yes, we we hunt as one.
- 30:04SPEAKER_01: I am food.
- 30:04SPEAKER_01: And Nimble is like, or the Nimbus Cloud is like, yes, we are for the food.
- 30:09SPEAKER_01: You and I, brother, we will hunt the food.
- 30:11SPEAKER_01: There's one really hungry Nimbus Cloud out there that would be.
- 30:14SPEAKER_06: I gotcha, bro, I gotcha.
- 30:15SPEAKER_06: It would really fly with Yaji.
- 30:18SPEAKER_02: Um, but and see and Bora and Upa is nice, you know.
- 30:22SPEAKER_02: They weren't important, they weren't necessary to be able to do it.
- 30:24SPEAKER_06: I think I think the only reason why I don't mind that scene.
- 30:28SPEAKER_06: Like, I guess I shouldn't say I don't mind it.
- 30:30SPEAKER_06: It's still kind of annoying to have that just for filler purposes.
- 30:34SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 30:34SPEAKER_06: But like, the reason why I can't say it's like only negative is because it does inform Bora and like Opa that, like, hey, Goku is on his way to do the job.
- 30:48unknown: Yeah.
- 30:49SPEAKER_06: And now they're like, oh man, I hope Goku wins, because we're also screwed.
- 30:52SPEAKER_06: We live on this planet.
- 30:53SPEAKER_02: You know, eventually they're gonna he's gonna pick a close enough to us that we're gonna get hurt.
- 30:58SPEAKER_06: Like, eventually he's he's gonna get the territory that has our tower in it, and then we can't protect it or whatever.
- 31:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 31:04SPEAKER_02: There's no way I I I lost to a mercenary.
- 31:07SPEAKER_02: There's no way I can fight an alien.
- 31:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 31:10SPEAKER_02: Um, but yeah, overall, I would say these episodes are fine.
- 31:14SPEAKER_02: I know we bashed them a lot, but we bashed them for the problems for the previous episodes.
- 31:18SPEAKER_02: We just kind of unloaded the clip on the arc in this these episodes.
- 31:21SPEAKER_06: Knowing that the arc is basically over, this is kind of your arc review.
- 31:26SPEAKER_06: Ark had so much potential.
- 31:29SPEAKER_06: They could also still stick the landing.
- 31:31SPEAKER_06: When they have three episodes left, they could stick the landing.
- 31:34SPEAKER_06: I'm saying this like pre-torting because I feel like with how hyped up this fight is, and like this is the first time where it's like you don't have full assurance that like Goku's going to really cleanly win this fight.
- 31:48SPEAKER_06: Obviously, you know, with the knowledge of the last 80 years of Dragon Ball, we know that Goku's gonna win this fight, but but you know, I don't know how he's gonna win.
- 31:56SPEAKER_06: I don't know how good he's gonna look compared to what Piccolo looks at.
- 32:00SPEAKER_06: Or how he wins.
- 32:02SPEAKER_06: But like I feel like there's no way they don't stick the landing, at least in the fact that like it is a satisfactory end.
- 32:10SPEAKER_02: The arc is named King Piccolo, and we're gonna end this with a giant fight with King Piccolo.
- 32:16SPEAKER_02: It's exactly what you want to have.
- 32:17SPEAKER_06: Now, looking at the arc as a whole, a lot of this arc could have been an email.
- 32:24SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 32:25SPEAKER_06: Like in business speech, could have been an email.
- 32:28SPEAKER_06: Could you just email it to us?
- 32:29SPEAKER_06: And we would have been fine.
- 32:30SPEAKER_06: We'd only have like six episodes.
- 32:32SPEAKER_06: And it'd have been great.
- 32:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 32:34SPEAKER_02: If this episode if this soccer was even like ten episodes or twelve at most, yeah.
- 32:39SPEAKER_02: You cut out a lot of the fat and these these this arc is like maybe the best arc of the show.
- 32:44SPEAKER_06: They just drag it on for so long.
- 32:48SPEAKER_06: Like I I really truly think that like it's a situation where they just had to drag it on for some extrenuous circumstance.
- 32:59SPEAKER_06: Like the the publication of the manga was going really slowly, or like they were slowly trying to get ready and like started on like whatever's like Z's next, Z's next show, and Z's the next show.
- 33:17SPEAKER_06: So like they were starting to work on Z, but it was taking too long to make those episodes.
- 33:21SPEAKER_06: Like, well, if we keep if we speed run through all of this, like plot in the next, what is it?
- 33:27SPEAKER_06: We're at like 30-ish episodes left in the show.
- 33:30SPEAKER_06: Like once we're done with the next three episodes that we have to watch, I think we're at about 30.
- 33:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 33:34SPEAKER_02: We'll be, yeah, they're by the end of the season, by the end of this arc we'll be at 122, and there is 153.
- 33:42SPEAKER_02: So there's like 31 out of the season.
- 33:44SPEAKER_06: So maybe they're like, we kind of have to stall it a tiny bit to get that up and running to start making Z, or there's gotta be something.
- 33:53SPEAKER_06: Because there's I don't I would like to think they didn't just put it in for no reason because they won it to.
- 34:00SPEAKER_02: Because it feels like a lot of it does feel force.
- 34:04SPEAKER_06: Force and so annoying to like watch through.
- 34:10SPEAKER_06: It's it's it really is one of those things like you might as well just look up like a Spark notes version of these this arc.
- 34:16SPEAKER_06: And and and only watch it until you until you you end.
- 34:20SPEAKER_06: Yeah, honestly, just listen to the podcast and we'll give you everything you need about this arc.
- 34:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I can give it to you right now.
- 34:24SPEAKER_02: I can take about five minutes to tell you what happens in this arc.
- 34:27SPEAKER_02: You want me to go ahead and go for it?
- 34:29SPEAKER_06: I can go off and cuff on this.
- 34:31SPEAKER_06: But it's just like it really is that it's like a lot of this arc could just be an email.
- 34:36SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 34:38SPEAKER_06: And it sucks to say that about an arc.
- 34:39SPEAKER_06: Like, if we're overall ranking arcs, this is ease.
- 34:42SPEAKER_06: I'm not gonna put it like the worst.
- 34:45SPEAKER_06: F, you know, but if you're looking at like the F D C B A S.
- 34:50SPEAKER_06: I think my worst is probab probably at best a D plus C minus.
- 34:55SPEAKER_02: I think this is t this is the only arc I can think of off the top of my head that's worse than this arc immediately, without like trying to rank them closer, yeah, is the blue arc.
- 35:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because blue arc has boleness bad day, and there ain't nothing in these episodes that's worse than that.
- 35:11SPEAKER_01: We can we can complain all we want, but we didn't have to watch that again.
- 35:14SPEAKER_01: We didn't have to re-watch a bolus bad day.
- 35:17SPEAKER_02: As long as there's no boleness bad day, you're not the worst arc.
- 35:21SPEAKER_06: You're doing a lot better than you than you should be.
- 35:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 35:24SPEAKER_06: It's gonna take something really abysmally bad to beat to beat bonus bad day.
- 35:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 35:29SPEAKER_02: Um, but Jesse, you want to jump in to see what your predictions were, or do you have more you want to talk about?
- 35:35SPEAKER_02: Uh do you want me to give the spark notes before we jump into that?
- 35:38SPEAKER_06: I think I think all I'm gonna say is like I didn't really give my my out of ten rating for these episodes.
- 35:45SPEAKER_06: Because I've been kind of between the ranges of four and five and a half.
- 35:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 35:52SPEAKER_06: So I'm kind of between three and five, so yeah, it's like it's tough to give them like a fair.
- 35:59SPEAKER_06: I don't want to be too harsh, because I know there's way worse episodes out there that could be.
- 36:04SPEAKER_02: There's a bowl most bad day out there floating around.
- 36:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 36:06SPEAKER_02: We might get another one of those as well.
- 36:08SPEAKER_06: If we're if we're looking, if I'm looking at it objectively as like Bowl Most Bad Day is a zero, these episodes could be way worse.
- 36:16SPEAKER_06: As far as content material, yeah, um what's happening.
- 36:22SPEAKER_06: So I think I go four, four, two, five.
- 36:27SPEAKER_02: There's nothing inherently bad about these episodes.
- 36:30SPEAKER_02: They're just a no-but there's also nothing inherently good about these episodes.
- 36:35SPEAKER_02: They are like the they're like the in the the definition of average.
- 36:40SPEAKER_06: They're just good enough that like it's frustrating.
- 36:44SPEAKER_06: Like you smell the bacon cooking, yeah, but you realize you're you have to leave the cook out because you're getting sick.
- 36:51SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 36:52SPEAKER_06: It's like it's it's that amount of annoying where it's like, I wanna I wanna eat the bacon, but I'm about to throw up and I want to go home before it gets worse.
- 37:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's it's very it's very rough.
- 37:03SPEAKER_02: Um I'm probably like I said, I'm following falling in that three to five range.
- 37:07SPEAKER_02: Like it's they're not rough.
- 37:09SPEAKER_02: They're not like us their three is not weighted the same as other threes that we've seen.
- 37:15SPEAKER_02: Because their three is just aw.
- 37:17SPEAKER_02: Like, it's built off the expectation of the good that could be there.
- 37:23SPEAKER_02: Less or more so than it is about the merit of these episodes, I guess is the way.
- 37:28SPEAKER_02: And that gets all hoity-toidy with it, but like the these episodes get bad.
- 37:31SPEAKER_06: I am I am a food critic, man.
- 37:34SPEAKER_02: But these these episodes get bad get bad ratings because they aren't good, not because they are bad.
- 37:42SPEAKER_02: You know?
- 37:42SPEAKER_02: Like these episodes are fine, but they're weighed down because the the stuff that's good is great in these in this arc.
- 37:48SPEAKER_02: And it's like there are some good sucks is such a drag.
- 37:52SPEAKER_02: It's just yawn is kind of it's like you could have been there.
- 37:56SPEAKER_06: The stuff that's bad is Twitter until something cool happens.
- 37:58SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 38:00SPEAKER_06: Check in my emails.
- 38:02SPEAKER_02: Hey Jesse, do you want to guess what the uh your predictions were?
- 38:09SPEAKER_06: Uh I shouldn't remember these because we recorded them like oh, yes, last week.
- 38:14SPEAKER_06: But I have done a lot of stuff in some of the.
- 38:16SPEAKER_02: Piccolo sets up a mini boss uh to fight before him and also summons some helpers.
- 38:21SPEAKER_02: So you got one of those, right?
- 38:22SPEAKER_02: But you did you fully hit mini boss.
- 38:24SPEAKER_02: Like, when you said that, I was actually reading the little bit, because they have like after every episode, they have a little like tag that you can read.
- 38:33SPEAKER_02: And so it's like like that you can like tells you kind of what's gonna happen.
- 38:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it literally for Battle Cry it says there's a new beast in town, and his name is Drome.
- 38:42SPEAKER_02: And I was like, Jesse fully nailed the mini.
- 38:45SPEAKER_05: Actually, we're thinking about that one.
- 38:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 38:47SPEAKER_02: Um, but Jesse, you want to hear the last three episodes of the art?
- 38:50SPEAKER_05: Was that the only that's the only prediction I had?
- 38:52SPEAKER_02: Well, you had two.
- 38:53SPEAKER_02: You had that he summons some extra helpers, but you you had a mini boss.
- 38:57SPEAKER_02: He didn't summon anybody other than the mini boss.
- 38:59SPEAKER_00: Fair enough, yeah.
- 39:00SPEAKER_06: Um, I mean, I guess you could argue the army men are like his help helping him out hunt the other people.
- 39:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but they don't show up.
- 39:05SPEAKER_02: They show up.
- 39:06SPEAKER_06: Well, actually, you said actually, that's why you know there's actually probably more martial artists out there because oxking was first on their list.
- 39:14SPEAKER_06: That's like the thing we skipped over because we're so annoyed by the oxking thing.
- 39:18SPEAKER_06: There's there's a group of military person that'll go out and just shooting a bunch of martial artists.
- 39:21SPEAKER_02: The King's Guard.
- 39:22SPEAKER_06: Yeah, the King the King's Guard's going out and shooting a bunch of martial artists.
- 39:26SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I think it's a good thing.
- 39:26SPEAKER_06: I guess that's like a plot relevant thing to happen for I guess that's why you could put him in there.
- 39:30SPEAKER_06: It's like showing the oh he's still trying to kill people.
- 39:32SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 39:33SPEAKER_06: Um, but Jesse, you're probably.
- 39:37SPEAKER_06: Now he's sound kind of hypocritical, it's like, we did this, what's going on?
- 39:40SPEAKER_05: Why is this in you?
- 39:41SPEAKER_06: But we didn't we didn't need it.
- 39:43SPEAKER_06: But it also tells you how like much of a like bore that scene was that we almost completely forgot about that.
- 39:52SPEAKER_02: Like one line of dialogue.
- 39:54SPEAKER_02: But that that one line doesn't really change much because if it wasn't there and we don't have this scene, we just assume that most, if not all of the active martial artists are dead.
- 40:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Sot King's not even active.
- 40:07SPEAKER_06: Yeah, Ox King isn't, yeah, he's not- also, if he's first on your list, you probably don't have a whole lot of rhythms too.
- 40:13SPEAKER_02: You're on the you're on the you're down to the D tier.
- 40:16SPEAKER_02: You cleared the first three levels, and you're just gonna be.
- 40:18SPEAKER_06: You're shooting the tier where like if they show up to your palace, you could you could just do what the Mr.
- 40:23SPEAKER_06: Manhattan, like the Mr.
- 40:24SPEAKER_02: Manhattan, they just die immediately.
- 40:30SPEAKER_02: But yeah, your new predictions for these next three episodes.
- 40:33SPEAKER_02: The names are Goku Strikes Back, The Biggest Crisis, and Final Showdown.
- 40:41SPEAKER_06: Goku starts to put up a good fight against Piccolo, and Piccolo gets scared.
- 40:44SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 40:46SPEAKER_06: Um Piccolo starts to get the upper hand, and like everyone's scared that, like, oh man, we're gonna lose, and Piccolo's gonna kill everybody in the second episode.
- 41:00SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 41:00SPEAKER_06: But just in time, Yamsha gets there and Tien recovers just enough to give Goku enough time to like charge up and kill Piccolo.
- 41:11SPEAKER_02: Give Goku enough time to kill Piccolo.
- 41:14SPEAKER_06: Yeah, kill Piccolo, recover enough, charge up what he wants to say.
- 41:17SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 41:17SPEAKER_06: Kill Piccolo.
- 41:18SPEAKER_02: Alright, I like it, Jesse.
- 41:22SPEAKER_06: Well, I guess I I'm assuming he kills him, and maybe he comes back as a baby and is a goat or something.
- 41:27SPEAKER_06: I don't know.
- 41:27SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 41:28SPEAKER_06: That would be I kinda wanna watch this guy die.
- 41:31SPEAKER_06: I do.
- 41:32SPEAKER_02: I wanna watch him die too, so.
- 41:34SPEAKER_06: Or if he doesn't die, uh there's gotta be some sort of traumatic brain energy that makes this man a nice person.
- 41:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 41:39SPEAKER_02: Something along the something.
- 41:41SPEAKER_02: Um but Jesse, worst part of these episodes.
- 41:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, how much just added for the anime?
- 41:50SPEAKER_02: I think for the anime.
- 41:51SPEAKER_02: I think for me it's it's gotta be the fingers thing.
- 41:54SPEAKER_02: It's obvious.
- 41:55SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, the fingers really completely ruined my gear.
- 41:59SPEAKER_01: That's that's the real big problem of these episodes.
- 42:01SPEAKER_02: I can't believe that we we haven't brought it up in any of the other episodes, but the fingers they really pissed us out.
- 42:08SPEAKER_02: Did you you guys know that in the anime he has five fingers when in the manga he only has four.
- 42:15SPEAKER_02: It completely blows my mind.
- 42:18SPEAKER_02: It changes it.
- 42:18SPEAKER_02: Where's where's the opposable thumb?
- 42:21SPEAKER_02: He can't grab anything without his thumb.
- 42:23SPEAKER_06: That's why he has even obviously thumb.
- 42:26SPEAKER_06: He's just missing like a like an index or something.
- 42:28SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 42:29SPEAKER_02: I sorry, that was me joking.
- 42:30SPEAKER_06: But my mystery.
- 42:32SPEAKER_06: I think for uh I think honestly, there's nothing that's like super horrendously bad.
- 42:37SPEAKER_06: It's just all the points where it's like we could have skipped this.
- 42:42SPEAKER_02: If I'm picking one, it is the the second brief.
- 42:45SPEAKER_02: The second time we go to brief.
- 42:46SPEAKER_02: The first time the well no, not the phone call.
- 42:49SPEAKER_02: The worst part for me is when they're all gathering the packing and they're trying to catch the cat.
- 42:56SPEAKER_02: Scratch, catch.
- 42:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, all of that stuff.
- 42:58SPEAKER_02: It's like, what are we doing?
- 43:00SPEAKER_06: I forgot that that was I forgot there was something right before that where they like they realize, oh, we're we're in West City.
- 43:05SPEAKER_06: That's where you live.
- 43:06SPEAKER_06: So there's that one first, and then there's the And then there's finding scratch, which then gets them distracted enough that they just spa seemingly stop packing.
- 43:17SPEAKER_06: Packing, they're just like, I gotta pick out a dress that I want to die in.
- 43:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 43:21SPEAKER_02: Oh, well, we're late to leave, so.
- 43:24SPEAKER_02: Um, but then jump into best part, Jesse.
- 43:27SPEAKER_02: Best part.
- 43:28SPEAKER_02: I got an easy one.
- 43:29SPEAKER_02: Goku Aura Farmer?
- 43:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 43:32SPEAKER_02: When I think of like Goku from Goku stance.
- 43:35SPEAKER_02: When I think of Goku from Dragon Ball, like thinking like specifically not of Dragon Ball C or beyond of the show.
- 43:41SPEAKER_02: But of this show.
- 43:43SPEAKER_02: That pic that is the picture that pops in my brain.
- 43:45SPEAKER_02: Is Goku standing there angry.
- 43:47SPEAKER_06: Kind of got the arch in his back, at a slight angle.
- 43:50SPEAKER_02: The background is 2D, but he is fully 3D.
- 43:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 43:54SPEAKER_02: Like it's it's like a painting within the redimension.
- 43:57SPEAKER_06: Perfect snapshot.
- 43:58SPEAKER_02: It is yeah.
- 43:58SPEAKER_02: They're they're straight or farm.
- 44:00SPEAKER_02: They don't they haven't done much well in these in this art.
- 44:04SPEAKER_02: But the but that and darkness from the last two episodes are probably two of the best animation things they've done in this in this art.
- 44:13SPEAKER_02: Like since the since the second tournament, the TN tournament.
- 44:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 44:16SPEAKER_02: Like it it was good.
- 44:18SPEAKER_02: And it's definitely my favorite part, my best part.
- 44:21SPEAKER_02: I don't think there's another best part.
- 44:23SPEAKER_02: There's not much else that really sticks out as being good.
- 44:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 44:27SPEAKER_02: TN not dying, I guess, is an honorable mention.
- 44:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he's not dead.
- 44:32SPEAKER_03: We're not down to just one person.
- 44:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 44:34SPEAKER_02: Um, but one person and and half a man.
- 44:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 44:38SPEAKER_02: But thank you guys very much for listening.
- 44:42SPEAKER_02: I hope you will download, subscribe, rate, review, share with your friends, and give us a five-star rating if you think we deserve it.
