Speaker 3: You can catch Let's Talk every Sunday at one pm
• 1:02
Speaker 3: and Thursday at seven pm on five eighty w c HS. Hollis,
• 1:09
Speaker 3: I'm we we ran into we ran into each other
• 1:14
  Speaker 3: at Marshall's homecoming.
• 1:15
Speaker 4: Yep, and one of the interesting things. And ladies and gentlemen,
• 1:21
  Speaker 4: we we.
• 1:21
Speaker 3: Hollis and I had a conversation out front right prior
• 1:24
Speaker 3: to coming on the show, and this show may jump
• 1:28
Speaker 3: around quite a bit just because there's a lot of
• 1:31
Speaker 3: different things that we both kind of want to get in.
• 1:36
Speaker 3: And one of one of the interesting components to me
• 1:39
Speaker 3: and we have we've talked a little bit about homecoming
• 1:41
Speaker 3: and the relevance of it. But I probably I saw
• 1:47
Speaker 3: I saw my roommate, Clifford Wright, and he was dying
• 1:52
Speaker 3: to get to see my mom and my brother because
• 1:55
Speaker 3: he hadn't seen him in like me and him hadn't
• 1:58
Speaker 3: seen each other probably since maybe eighty four when I
• 2:06
Speaker 3: left Marshall, and so he hadn't seen any of the family.
• 2:11
Speaker 3: And he got close to my mom because he come
• 2:14
Speaker 3: home stay with us, and he remember my brother.
• 2:16
Speaker 4: Being young, and he was just dying to see them both.
• 2:21
Speaker 3: When you when you when you think about homecoming and
• 2:24
Speaker 3: as as a football player, and which is kind of
• 2:29
Speaker 3: the same as what we call alumni weekend in the
• 2:33
Speaker 3: in the pros, right what you get the opportunity to
• 2:36
Speaker 3: get back and see some special people like you might
• 2:40
  Speaker 3: have had a full team, but there's there's a group
• 2:44
Speaker 3: of guys that you hung out with, if you want
• 2:48
Speaker 3: to call it that way. You know that you were
• 2:50
Speaker 3: with every day, man, and this group of guys that
• 2:54
Speaker 3: that I was with this weekend. You don't get to
• 2:58
Speaker 3: be Carle the football player. You don't get to be
• 3:02
Speaker 3: you know, you don't get you don't get to be
• 3:03
Speaker 3: any of that who you become in that situation. It's
• 3:08
Speaker 3: Crawley at marsh University, you know, Crawley, the guy that
• 3:12
Speaker 3: that I talked to, the guy that I talk crazy.
• 3:15
Speaker 4: To, or push him on the shove him around. It's
• 3:19
Speaker 4: it's that kind of thing.
• 3:21
Speaker 3: And I don't know what the fan base does, you know,
• 3:25
Speaker 3: like you know that come back to homecoming, you know,
• 3:29
Speaker 3: and maybe it's the same, But man, I don't think
• 3:32
Speaker 3: there's anything any greater than coming back to homecoming and
• 3:36
Speaker 3: seeing the guys that you spent almost every day all
• 3:41
  Speaker 3: day with them.
• 3:43
Speaker 4: I don't know if there's anything better than that.
• 3:45
Speaker 5: Homecoming is definitely just a special time. I mean, that
• 3:48
Speaker 5: was kind of I've been to Like obviously, I've been
• 3:50
Speaker 5: to the parties at Marshall's home coming for since probably
• 3:53
Speaker 5: my first time, at least the first time in the
• 3:55
Speaker 5: law time I actually went to the game and did
• 3:57
Speaker 5: the tailgate and did all those sort of things. So
• 4:00
Speaker 5: like each homecoming I've ever been to, whether it's Ace State,
• 4:02
Speaker 5: Marshall at Southern University, it's always a special moment, you know,
• 4:07
Speaker 5: where you get to see the people that you haven't
• 4:09
Speaker 5: seen in a while and you just get to you know,
• 4:12
Speaker 5: sort of strobe down memory lane and just reminisce about
• 4:16
Speaker 5: the special time that that collegiate experience was. Right, you
• 4:19
Speaker 5: get to see the guys, particularly if you played ball.
• 4:23
Speaker 3: I think, do you think playing and I don't really
• 4:25
Speaker 3: mean to cut you off, but do you think playing
• 4:29
Speaker 3: ball is different than say, being a student and your
• 4:34
Speaker 3: friends that come back.
• 4:35
Speaker 5: I think it's a little difference because our memories are
• 4:39
Speaker 5: maybe a little bit are somewhat different, right, because I particularly,
• 4:44
Speaker 5: and I would say, I think it's special for any
• 4:47
Speaker 5: collegiate athlete that played on the team, right because you
• 4:49
Speaker 5: get to go and back and hang with the people
• 4:50
  Speaker 5: that you.
• 4:51
Speaker 4: Spent the most time with during that period.
• 4:53
Speaker 5: But specifically for football, Like, we didn't necessarily get to
• 4:57
Speaker 5: participate in homecoming other than just kind of being the show, right,
• 5:01
Speaker 5: so now that we get to participate, we get to
• 5:04
Speaker 5: hang out, We get to sort of because you're not
• 5:07
Speaker 5: just strictly reminiscing about, you know, things you maybe did
• 5:09
Speaker 5: off the field, but you're reminiscing about those games and
• 5:11
Speaker 5: things on the field. So it's definitely special and just
• 5:14
Speaker 5: to see where everybody's you know, at now in life.
• 5:17
Speaker 3: You know, on Thursday, I think I went down Thursday night. No,
• 5:25
Speaker 3: I went down Friday night and got I got back
• 5:28
Speaker 3: home at about two thirty Sunday, I mean Saturday, when
• 5:34
Speaker 3: after the game, I probably didn't get home and get
• 5:36
Speaker 3: in bed until about four thirty.
• 5:38
Speaker 4: That is so far off of my stuff like that. Yeah,
• 5:42
  Speaker 4: and that's kind.
• 5:44
Speaker 3: Of what you that's kind of what happens in that
• 5:46
Speaker 3: situation because you're not time is just passing and you're
• 5:50
Speaker 3: laughing and joking and reminiscing and you know.
• 5:54
Speaker 4: And one of the interesting things that.
• 5:56
Speaker 3: Always comes up, it seems to be around home coming
• 6:00
Speaker 3: and guys coming around, is the is the difference in
• 6:05
Speaker 3: the current situation, you know, versus what it was like.
• 6:11
Speaker 3: You know, things look, how do things look now compared
• 6:16
Speaker 3: to how things still look?
• 6:17
Speaker 4: And there's nothing true as state baby State.
• 6:20
Speaker 5: I mean, that's one of the just the points of
• 6:23
Speaker 5: conversation always everywhere, just how upgraded the facilities are and
• 6:27
Speaker 5: just how how nice it looks and what it would
• 6:29
Speaker 5: have been like to play you know this or this
• 6:31
Speaker 5: or that. And let me kind of while we're on this,
• 6:33
Speaker 5: let me say this, like, how do you think like
• 6:38
Speaker 5: just sort of with the movement of college football now?
• 6:41
Speaker 5: I mean I've seen a kid the other day and
• 6:43
Speaker 5: he's not necessarily a superstar athlete, superstar football player. I
• 6:48
Speaker 5: mean his kids literally played at like four or five
• 6:50
Speaker 5: different colleges. So like like in twenty years with kind
• 6:54
Speaker 5: of the scenarios that are happening now, do you think
• 6:58
Speaker 5: like the face of how all those homecomings will be
• 7:01
  Speaker 5: will be different?
• 7:03
  Speaker 3: I absolutely, I do think it's I think it's going
• 7:08
Speaker 3: to be different. Because so if I'd have gone to
• 7:11
Speaker 3: Marshall then went to somewhere else that went to app State,
• 7:15
Speaker 3: then went to Furman or somebody like that would have
• 7:17
Speaker 3: been in our conference. Like when homecoming shows up, what
• 7:23
Speaker 3: groundwork do I have to go back?
• 7:26
Speaker 4: You don't. It's like you don't build a connection yeah school.
• 7:29
Speaker 3: Because and or those guys they may know you see.
• 7:33
Speaker 3: I think it's even more important because if you come
• 7:38
Speaker 3: to the game, man, you're looking you know, you're looking
• 7:41
Speaker 3: for your guys. And when you came over, bro, I'm
• 7:45
Speaker 3: I'm with those dudes. I'm with those guys, like, and
• 7:48
Speaker 3: there's other dudes in the in the in the bleachers
• 7:52
  Speaker 3: in their group.
• 7:55
Speaker 4: Do you have a group if you play one year?
• 7:58
  Speaker 5: Maybe maybe I just don't know because it's like a
• 8:00
Speaker 5: lot of those guys they're not even there for the year, right,
• 8:03
Speaker 5: So you may come in the summer.
• 8:05
Speaker 4: Now you play a season, That's what I'm saying, So
• 8:07
  Speaker 4: you may come.
• 8:08
Speaker 5: I'm talking about the calendar year, right, So you may
• 8:11
Speaker 5: like let's say you come in in June or July,
• 8:13
Speaker 5: you practice with the team, you do summer workouts, you
• 8:16
Speaker 5: go through the season, and then some of those guys.
• 8:18
Speaker 4: In January, you know, they're gone.
• 8:20
  Speaker 5: Yeah, so's it's so I'm just it's gonna be curious
• 8:24
Speaker 5: to see in ten years how this thing is going on,
• 8:26
Speaker 5: just not just homecoming, but just sort of the environment.
• 8:29
Speaker 5: Like even if you you know, if you went to
• 8:31
Speaker 5: five different schools and you made it big, you got
• 8:34
Speaker 5: a lot of money, Like who do you give to firsts?
• 8:36
Speaker 3: Like how does those things work? Like how do those
• 8:39
  Speaker 3: relationships carry on?
• 8:40
  Speaker 4: That?
• 8:40
Speaker 3: That's crazy and I did not even when we were
• 8:42
Speaker 3: talking about going here. That was that was something that
• 8:46
Speaker 3: was totally not in my in my thought process, because
• 8:52
Speaker 3: like I could, every one of those guys, I played
• 8:56
Speaker 3: the maximum years possible with them.
• 8:59
Speaker 4: So let's say some four, some three, some two.
• 9:02
Speaker 3: You know, but even the guy who maybe came in
• 9:06
Speaker 3: one year, he finished Marshall, Yeah.
• 9:09
Speaker 4: And it was already a history before him.
• 9:10
Speaker 3: Yes, he already catch up on right, he already knew
• 9:13
Speaker 3: that guy that I might have played one year with
• 9:15
Speaker 3: with maybe with freshman and I was a senior going out.
• 9:18
Speaker 3: What they remember is I was there, somebody else was there.
• 9:23
Speaker 3: We had a class, and we likely had probably hung
• 9:27
Speaker 3: out with them at some point in time.
• 9:29
Speaker 5: It's like, and you know, college is such a special time.
• 9:33
  Speaker 4: It really is.
• 9:34
Speaker 5: And I think that you know, particularly if you play
• 9:38
Speaker 5: a sport, you play football for us, it's a special
• 9:42
Speaker 5: time because you know, not only on the field playing
• 9:45
Speaker 5: and doing those things, we're living college students, we're living
• 9:48
Speaker 5: a collegiate life. And I think that sort of thing
• 9:51
Speaker 5: is just kind of gone, and I don't know if
• 9:54
Speaker 5: woever replaced it. I don't know how those guys are
• 9:57
Speaker 5: going to like turn out once the career is over
• 9:59
Speaker 5: and they have to actually enter the marketplace and you know,
• 10:02
Speaker 5: get careers and jobs and different things of that nature.
• 10:04
Speaker 5: So it's going to be very interesting to see the
• 10:07
Speaker 5: next five to ten years.
• 10:08
  Speaker 4: How does and.
• 10:10
Speaker 3: Just to say this because it just dawned on me, like, so,
• 10:16
Speaker 3: how do you come back for the and be part
• 10:19
Speaker 3: of the alumni? Like like even alumni folks. Okay, let's
• 10:24
Speaker 3: say somebody who maybe maybe maybe some men I own
• 10:27
Speaker 3: money Okay, and then you leave go somewhere.
• 10:31
Speaker 4: Else, like and then go somewhere and then go somewhere else.
• 10:35
  Speaker 6: Like.
• 10:37
Speaker 4: What are you? Like? Who are you? Who are you befriending? Like?
• 10:40
  Speaker 4: Where are you?
• 10:41
Speaker 5: But I guess in those travels, you know, I'm assuming
• 10:45
Speaker 5: like there's probably one place is going to be more
• 10:47
Speaker 5: special than the next, maybe depending on how much you
• 10:49
Speaker 5: guys win when maybe you developed the you know, your fiance,
• 10:53
Speaker 5: your wife, your girlfriend there.
• 10:55
Speaker 4: So I'm sure that's what that happens a lot of time.
• 10:57
Speaker 5: So I'm sure like it'll be maybe even if you've
• 10:59
Speaker 5: gone afford the five different schools, it'll probably be in
• 11:02
Speaker 5: that mix. One place it just it's special. I don't know,
• 11:05
Speaker 5: but it's you know, hopefully they can draw the same
• 11:09
Speaker 5: things we draw out of it, right, I guess so,
• 11:12
Speaker 5: so let let me ask you this sort of to
• 11:15
Speaker 5: move on from that point when we talk about you know,
• 11:18
Speaker 5: homecoming WVU, I believe their homecoming is coming up. WVU
• 11:22
Speaker 5: and Marshall both started out rough right, seasons started out rough,
• 11:26
Speaker 5: particularly Marshall. I mean, they played Ohio State, played Virginia Tech.
• 11:29
Speaker 5: They had a killer murder Rose starting out for you know,
• 11:33
Speaker 5: a mid a mid major college, I mean. And in
• 11:35
Speaker 5: addition with WVU, they were talking about firing Neil Brown
• 11:39
Speaker 5: a couple of weeks ago. Right now, you know, both teams,
• 11:44
Speaker 5: both schools are three and two. Wvu's two and oh
• 11:48
Speaker 5: in their conference. Marshall was one and oh in their conference.
• 11:51
Speaker 5: A big, huge win over aspect, you know. So far
• 11:56
Speaker 5: as a media perspective, like it is situation in which
• 12:01
Speaker 5: we just got a lot of time on our hands.
• 12:02
Speaker 5: We like to pick these guys apart should we be
• 12:04
Speaker 5: more patient? And and the second part of that question
• 12:09
Speaker 5: is like, Connie, how do you manage that as a
• 12:11
Speaker 5: player and type of coach?
• 12:13
Speaker 3: First, as far as media, I think the media doesn't
• 12:18
Speaker 3: have like I think they want to be the first
• 12:20
Speaker 3: to say m coach hoff is on the block. Yeah,
• 12:24
Speaker 3: you know, I think that's you remember if guys remember
• 12:29
Speaker 3: I said it, I wrote about it. But at the
• 12:33
Speaker 3: end of the day, you know, there's no certainty. You
• 12:38
Speaker 3: can think that it can look that way. But all
• 12:41
Speaker 3: of a sudden, because again to your point, when you're
• 12:43
Speaker 3: reading out that that that opening season for Marshall, that
• 12:48
Speaker 3: that was no joke. I mean, I don't know who
• 12:52
Speaker 3: thought they were gonna win any of those games.
• 12:54
Speaker 4: You know, I'm sure that coach Houff didn't. I don't know.
• 12:58
Speaker 3: But they beat where they beat the game before, So
• 13:01
Speaker 3: I get that. You never know, I get that.
• 13:04
Speaker 4: And and and again.
• 13:06
Speaker 3: I'm not sure he knew he was gonna win those
• 13:08
Speaker 3: games and he but he but he ended up I'm
• 13:10
Speaker 3: not saying he didn't think that they could. There was
• 13:12
Speaker 3: some possibility. Yeah, tough, Yeah, but he knew it was
• 13:15
Speaker 3: gonna be tough. And then all of a sudden, you
• 13:17
Speaker 3: get in that game and then like, oh we can
• 13:19
Speaker 3: win this game. You win that game. Now you turned
• 13:24
Speaker 3: around and here you go playing Ohio State, you know
• 13:29
Speaker 3: what I'm saying, And like, but then you jumped in
• 13:32
  Speaker 3: your conference.
• 13:33
Speaker 4: You know, one game in.
• 13:36
Speaker 3: Against that State, who is a good team, a good team,
• 13:40
Speaker 3: you never know what they might pull up a really
• 13:42
Speaker 3: good team and you get fifty something on them.
• 13:45
Speaker 4: Yeah, and beat him, beat him down on home coaching,
• 13:48
  Speaker 4: you know.
• 13:49
Speaker 3: Now you know there's some question about defense. You know,
• 13:51
Speaker 3: they gave up what thirty some thirty some points. So
• 13:56
  Speaker 3: but that's a good win. Yeah, that's a good win.
• 14:00
Speaker 5: And let me just say this, like going to Marshall Stadium,
• 14:03
Speaker 5: it's Marshall State has a great stadium. Like, it's not
• 14:06
Speaker 5: necessarily a bad seat in the house.
• 14:08
  Speaker 2: It's you.
• 14:09
Speaker 5: It's a good viewing from any angle. The crowd was
• 14:13
Speaker 5: into it, so it was a good environment down there.
• 14:16
Speaker 4: I'll say that it is not old Fairfield Stadium, I
• 14:19
Speaker 4: can tell you that.
• 14:20
Speaker 5: But but like even to your point, you know, when
• 14:22
Speaker 5: we talk about Neil Brown, I mean literally they were
• 14:25
Speaker 5: talking about firing this man. Now you're finding yourself two
• 14:28
Speaker 5: and on in the Big twelve.
• 14:30
Speaker 3: And not to say that this is gonna happen that
• 14:32
Speaker 3: because again you went out the Big twelve.
• 14:35
Speaker 5: Guess where you at you in the playoffs? Yes, And
• 14:38
Speaker 5: I'm just saying like, when you look at this schedule,
• 14:41
Speaker 5: when you look at who's in the Big twelve w
• 14:43
Speaker 5: V you might have a legitimate shot. I mean, because
• 14:46
Speaker 5: you talk about Texas Tech, Baylor, Iowa State, Colorado, Arizona,
• 14:50
Speaker 5: Arizona State, Cincinnati, UCF Utah Texas. Excuse me, how Texas, Houston, TCU,
• 14:57
Speaker 5: Oklahoma State, which they already beat, Baylor, Kansas which they
• 14:59
Speaker 5: already beat. They got only they could win some games
• 15:02
Speaker 5: in this conference. In it and we may not be
• 15:05
Speaker 5: surprised if they find themselves in a position to, you know,
• 15:08
Speaker 5: compete for a conference title.
• 15:10
Speaker 4: I mean, they're literally there now.
• 15:12
Speaker 5: When a couple of weeks ago we're talking about firing
• 15:15
Speaker 5: the man, start all over.
• 15:16
Speaker 3: I'm gonna make the case that he loses a game
• 15:19
Speaker 3: and he if he goes into the conference and starts
• 15:22
Speaker 3: and and and was on a streak of losing and
• 15:24
Speaker 3: lost a couple Yeah, but he might not be there.
• 15:28
Speaker 3: I could, I could agree with that. I mean, and again,
• 15:30
  Speaker 3: let's cave y'all.
• 15:31
Speaker 5: They play, They beat Kansas in Oklahoma State, which at
• 15:34
Speaker 5: the bottom of the Big twelve.
• 15:35
Speaker 4: But but WU was at the bottom of the Big twelve. Yeah,
• 15:39
Speaker 4: because at that point you're assuming that you're there. Yeah.
• 15:43
Speaker 4: And again, both the teams, Marshall and WV I think,
• 15:47
  Speaker 4: you know, I.
• 15:50
Speaker 3: Do truly respect both of the coaches and I think
• 15:53
Speaker 3: that they are. They're genuinely liked by their players, and
• 15:59
Speaker 3: I think every everything else is someone looking at it
• 16:02
Speaker 3: from the outside end.
• 16:04
Speaker 5: Yeah, And I think what we just talked about with
• 16:07
Speaker 5: the movement of collegiate football players, I almost think we
• 16:11
Speaker 5: have to take the opposite approach in that we have
• 16:14
Speaker 5: to be more patient now with coaches because we agree
• 16:17
Speaker 5: because what you can I mean, I think sort of
• 16:20
Speaker 5: the opposing argument will say, well, we shouldn't do that
• 16:23
Speaker 5: because they can just get players in. But I think
• 16:25
Speaker 5: that what we've seen is that that doesn't always result
• 16:28
Speaker 5: in immediate wins because you just can't pick up thirty
• 16:31
Speaker 5: and forty new guys implant them and thinking Okay, we're
• 16:34
Speaker 5: just gonna win. There's a maturation process that needs to
• 16:37
Speaker 5: be had. So we gotta be patient, I think with
• 16:40
Speaker 5: coaches now, particularly collegiate coaches.
• 16:42
Speaker 3: Well, and especially because when when there's a change in coaching,
• 16:47
Speaker 3: usually why is that a change.
• 16:49
  Speaker 4: It's not because they're winning. It's because they're losing.
• 16:53
Speaker 3: So you get rid of a coach, you bring a
• 16:54
Speaker 3: coach in and your team and that team that he's
• 16:57
  Speaker 3: coming into is.
• 16:58
Speaker 4: Sitting at the bottom of the bear. Yeah. And now
• 17:02
  Speaker 4: how many years?
• 17:03
Speaker 3: How many years are you are you going to allow
• 17:05
Speaker 3: him some He used to be three and then we
• 17:07
  Speaker 3: got the four.
• 17:08
Speaker 4: If by four you're not looking good, we gotta let
• 17:11
  Speaker 4: you go.
• 17:12
Speaker 3: I don't know if you can do that now, because
• 17:14
Speaker 3: you got as many players leaving, like you said.
• 17:17
Speaker 5: So you think what should be we should have less
• 17:20
Speaker 5: or you gotta give you more time. I think you
• 17:21
Speaker 5: gotta get more time. That's what I think.
• 17:24
Speaker 3: You gotta give him five six years because it's just
• 17:27
Speaker 3: it's too much movement and you don't get the opportunity
• 17:29
  Speaker 3: to jail.
• 17:30
Speaker 4: I mean, we can.
• 17:31
Speaker 5: You know, back in the days, you could get that
• 17:33
Speaker 5: freshman class that could be all your recruits and you
• 17:35
Speaker 5: can bring up from you know, pubs to.
• 17:37
Speaker 3: And they're saying, by the time you get your time,
• 17:39
Speaker 3: you get him to junior senior year.
• 17:41
Speaker 4: We need to we need to be seeing some some
• 17:44
  Speaker 4: change here.
• 17:44
Speaker 5: But now you don't. You don't have that because you
• 17:46
Speaker 5: gotta plug and play. You gotta rosters. I mean, these
• 17:50
Speaker 5: things are like legos and tetrics, right, you gotta recruit this,
• 17:54
Speaker 5: you gotta bring these guys on. You gotta red shirt
• 17:57
Speaker 5: this guy. I mean, it's literally playing like a big
• 17:59
Speaker 5: jinga game where you have to figure out who are
• 18:02
Speaker 5: the correct pieces, who are the plugging, plugging play guys,
• 18:06
Speaker 5: and who are the guys that I have to you know,
• 18:08
  Speaker 5: bring along.
• 18:08
Speaker 3: And the scariest thing to that is is, Okay, so
• 18:11
  Speaker 3: I need a quarterback. You're my quarterback. I hope, right,
• 18:16
  Speaker 3: I hope You've already had a good season. You're coming
• 18:20
Speaker 3: off of a good season. So I'm thinking, okay, now
• 18:22
Speaker 3: we get some Now, all we need is some receivers
• 18:24
Speaker 3: and get help us on the line a little bit.
• 18:26
Speaker 3: We get some protection. He can throw the ball down
• 18:28
Speaker 3: the field. We can we can make a change. Well,
• 18:32
Speaker 3: somebody saw that you were good.
• 18:36
  Speaker 4: Thing.
• 18:36
Speaker 3: You know, somebody's negotiating with you with some men I
• 18:40
Speaker 3: own money to get you somewhere else.
• 18:41
Speaker 5: And see, And I like you said that, because that's
• 18:43
Speaker 5: the other part of it now, right, So when you
• 18:45
Speaker 5: talk talk about like coach Brown, coach health, Now, not
• 18:48
Speaker 5: only do I gotta figure out who is the plug
• 18:51
Speaker 5: and play guy who I gotta recruit, I gotta figure
• 18:53
Speaker 5: out now I gotta figure out how to pay you. Yes,
• 18:56
Speaker 5: And we talked about that extensively. And there's a coach
• 19:00
Speaker 5: it's almost you gotta be a part of that conversation. Now,
• 19:04
Speaker 5: it's not like you can just pass that off to
• 19:06
Speaker 5: the ad or maybe some consulting you hire or some
• 19:09
Speaker 5: you know, the third party groups. You as a coach,
• 19:12
Speaker 5: I need to know like, Okay, we got this budget,
• 19:14
Speaker 5: I can afford to do this. So now you got
• 19:16
Speaker 5: math involved, the money in budgets.
• 19:18
Speaker 3: And because and then the crazy thing to that is,
• 19:21
Speaker 3: if you're the coach, how much do you actually need,
• 19:26
Speaker 3: like from year to year, actually not even year to year,
• 19:29
Speaker 3: semester the semester semester and that gets even more common
• 19:32
Speaker 3: beginning of the season, end of the season. At some point,
• 19:36
Speaker 3: I gotta know how much I need to start and
• 19:38
Speaker 3: how much I'm gonna need when we get done. Now,
• 19:40
Speaker 3: all of a sudden, you were sophomore coming in as
• 19:43
Speaker 3: the quarterback. All of a sudden, you play well, you
• 19:46
Speaker 3: help us win. We don't won four games this year,
• 19:49
Speaker 3: and part of that is because you you as the quarterback.
• 19:53
Speaker 3: Now I got I gotta start thinking about I gotta
• 19:56
Speaker 3: negotiate with somebody outside of the program to get money
• 20:01
Speaker 3: to pay you to keep you here.
• 20:04
Speaker 5: And that is so complicated. And and the other part
• 20:07
Speaker 5: of that, which I've just now thought about even to
• 20:09
Speaker 5: that point where you know, if I am the quarterback
• 20:12
Speaker 5: on this team, and you know, maybe I had a
• 20:15
Speaker 5: good I had a decent, solid, you know, good season,
• 20:18
Speaker 5: and now the coach is saying, well, look, these are
• 20:21
Speaker 5: the points of your game where we can get better.
• 20:24
Speaker 5: So this is the stuff, these are the things that
• 20:26
Speaker 5: need to you need to work on in the off
• 20:27
Speaker 5: season in order to flourish for the next season.
• 20:31
  Speaker 4: And I leave.
• 20:31
Speaker 5: Now he got to start with somebody else. He got
• 20:33
Speaker 5: to figure out how to evaluate that person because he
• 20:36
Speaker 5: didn't have this spending amount of time they spent with me,
• 20:39
Speaker 5: you don't even know what this person. So now basically
• 20:42
Speaker 5: what I'm saying is, you know your off season program
• 20:45
  Speaker 5: is dramatically affected.
• 20:46
Speaker 4: Right right, and and then.
• 20:50
Speaker 3: And this is just again as players that we as
• 20:53
Speaker 3: former players, we're sitting here thinking this through, and as
• 20:56
Speaker 3: we talk about it, it brings up another point because
• 21:02
Speaker 3: I'm automatically thinking the moment, the moment you put me
• 21:05
Speaker 3: as a starter, and I've already made a couple of
• 21:09
Speaker 3: plays and I become the starter.
• 21:12
Speaker 4: I'm already talking about Okay, where's my money? Where my money? Like,
• 21:17
Speaker 4: you know, the quarterback from UNLV. Right.
• 21:18
Speaker 5: Yes, he came in under precipice that they were gonna
• 21:21
Speaker 5: give him some money. He bought out now the three
• 21:23
Speaker 5: games in that he like, uh, let's negotiate this thing.
• 21:26
Speaker 5: I don't want this three thousand, y'all gotta come up
• 21:28
Speaker 5: with some and you.
• 21:30
Speaker 3: Just and and And the reality to that is is
• 21:33
Speaker 3: sometimes that's not necessarily always possible. When you start talking
• 21:37
Speaker 3: about Marshall or WVU, it may be somewhere else.
• 21:40
Speaker 4: And then it may be at those schools I'm just saying.
• 21:43
Speaker 5: Or even if it is, it just may not be
• 21:45
Speaker 5: to the degree that another school exactly because even a
• 21:48
Speaker 5: smaller school, heck, if you just got a couple booster
• 21:51
Speaker 5: with these pockets who loved the football team, it could
• 21:53
Speaker 5: be a no name school that we're not even familiar
• 21:55
Speaker 5: with that could possibly pay you more.
• 21:58
Speaker 4: Right, Yes, yes, so I just think that.
• 22:03
Speaker 3: And I'm not blaming the player because because if I
• 22:06
Speaker 3: was in that situation, I know, you know, I would
• 22:09
Speaker 3: be asking. I'd be asking for my money. You know
• 22:11
Speaker 3: I need some of that. Yeah, I gotta get some
• 22:13
Speaker 3: of that. And and the other thing that that creates,
• 22:16
Speaker 3: it creates the vision because let's say you're the Let's
• 22:18
Speaker 3: say you're the quarterback. Okay, so we know we're supposed
• 22:22
Speaker 3: to know that you're gonna make likely you're going to
• 22:26
Speaker 3: make the most money. But let's just say you you
• 22:28
Speaker 3: you were sophomore going into your junior year, hadn't started before.
• 22:31
  Speaker 3: I'm a junior and I didn't started since a freshman,
• 22:34
Speaker 3: and I'm playing dB.
• 22:38
Speaker 4: They give you fifty dollars and I'm getting ten.
• 22:42
Speaker 3: Yeah, uh uh, that can't work. Y'all gotta y'all gotta
• 22:47
Speaker 3: bring me up. I mean, you got to bring me up.
• 22:50
Speaker 3: If you can't bring me up, I gotta go somewhere.
• 22:52
  Speaker 4: Yeah.
• 22:52
Speaker 5: And then I think, just kind of lastly, it also
• 22:55
Speaker 5: creates like this inequity, right right, because I think that
• 23:00
Speaker 5: like a guy like Arch Manning, who is the nephew
• 23:03
Speaker 5: of Eli and Peyton Manning, right, he's from the Manning
• 23:06
Speaker 5: tree of quarterbacks, He's in a situation in which he
• 23:10
Speaker 5: don't really got to worry about money, right, he could
• 23:13
Speaker 5: just kind of go out there and play. He can
• 23:15
Speaker 5: afford to be a backup. He can afford really to
• 23:17
Speaker 5: take his time to mature, to really walk into the
• 23:22
Speaker 5: position instead of sprinting and then really not getting all
• 23:24
Speaker 5: the tools and lessons that need to be had so
• 23:26
Speaker 5: he can actually afford Think about this, Think about this.
• 23:30
Speaker 5: He can afford to be a backup, yes, you see
• 23:33
Speaker 5: what I'm saying, and he can afford to really take
• 23:35
Speaker 5: his time and then you know, going to the NFL
• 23:37
Speaker 5: when it's his time. Where another kid who's not in
• 23:40
Speaker 5: that situation, who may be equally as talented, that kid
• 23:44
Speaker 5: can't necessarily afford to be a backup, that can't afford
• 23:48
Speaker 5: to go to school, that can't finance him in a
• 23:50
Speaker 5: way that's going to be not only feasible for himself.
• 23:53
  Speaker 3: That I am I able to think that I'm I'm
• 23:58
Speaker 3: financially secure enough to.
• 24:03
  Speaker 4: I'm the lowest.
• 24:05
Speaker 3: I'll just take the lowest amount on the offense just
• 24:08
  Speaker 3: because I don't need it.
• 24:10
Speaker 5: But what I'm saying is like, you're what I'm saying
• 24:12
Speaker 5: is that if you're an arch many and your goal
• 24:15
Speaker 5: is to get to it, I'm just assuming that's his
• 24:16
Speaker 5: goal is to get to the ROFL. What I'm saying
• 24:19
Speaker 5: is that at this point, as a sophomore freshman in college,
• 24:22
Speaker 5: money's not necessarily the factor. You see what I'm saying,
• 24:25
Speaker 5: where I think another kid who was like maybe a
• 24:28
Speaker 5: backup at Texas maybe making twenty thirty grand, and now
• 24:32
Speaker 5: you're a good backup. You're, like I said, equally as talent.
• 24:34
Speaker 5: And then like Kansas State say hey man, we'll give
• 24:38
Speaker 5: you a meal. That kid's probably going to go to
• 24:40
Speaker 5: Kansas State and being as he's not, Yeah, and arch
• 24:42
Speaker 5: manity doesn't have to because money's not necessarily driving forth.
• 24:46
Speaker 5: And that kid who can't afford to be that backup
• 24:49
Speaker 5: that just say it, go and go to Kansas and
• 24:50
Speaker 5: may find himself in a worser situation.
• 24:53
Speaker 4: Can Can the kid? Though? Can the kid?
• 24:57
Speaker 3: Because if I'm getting twenty and I think I'm better
• 25:02
Speaker 3: than you and you're getting twenty.
• 25:04
Speaker 4: Five, I'm mad. But you know what I'm saying.
• 25:07
Speaker 3: So is the money? Is the money kind of the king?
• 25:14
Speaker 3: Is that making the king? Like whoever's getting the most money, you're.
• 25:17
  Speaker 4: In the king.
• 25:19
  Speaker 5: I don't necessarily think it, like I think, I don't
• 25:21
Speaker 5: necessarily think that. But what I do think is that
• 25:24
Speaker 5: depending on your situation, Right, if you got a situation
• 25:28
Speaker 5: at home where maybe you come from a project, so
• 25:31
Speaker 5: you come from a trailer parker, you just come from
• 25:33
Speaker 5: a very low social economic area, then that is going
• 25:37
Speaker 5: there has to be a consideration because you can't walk around.
• 25:41
Speaker 5: To your point, you can't walk around and maybe barely
• 25:43
Speaker 5: afford to pay your campus rent, or you ain't really
• 25:45
Speaker 5: got no car, or you just really don't have enough
• 25:48
Speaker 5: money to sustain yourself because your family can't afford thistinue.
• 25:52
Speaker 5: So if you're in a situation like that where maybe
• 25:54
Speaker 5: you barely scraping by, you making twenty thirty thousand, and
• 25:56
Speaker 5: then somebody just says, hey, this other school says, man,
• 26:00
  Speaker 5: I'll give you a half a million. What you're gonna
• 26:02
Speaker 5: do is eighteen nineteen year old kid, you going with that?
• 26:05
Speaker 5: I mean to the car analogy, like.
• 26:12
Speaker 3: How many times did you jump into somebody's car, whoever
• 26:16
  Speaker 3: had a car?
• 26:17
Speaker 4: I was fortunate enough to have a car.
• 26:19
Speaker 3: If I was going somewhere, if we were guys were
• 26:21
Speaker 3: talking about going bright, we're.
• 26:22
Speaker 4: Loading in, we're loading down in that car.
• 26:25
Speaker 3: Like not everybody, what athlete, what starting athlete, possibly does
• 26:33
Speaker 3: not have a car.
• 26:34
Speaker 5: Not that Like that's what I'm saying. That a big
• 26:36
Speaker 5: D one Alabama, Georgia, Texas. They probably are rolling because
• 26:41
Speaker 5: now they can afford to make that car payment or
• 26:43
Speaker 5: buy that car, or maybe they're getting the car from
• 26:46
Speaker 5: you know, that nil deal.
• 26:48
  Speaker 4: So that's what I'm saying.
• 26:49
Speaker 3: So when you're looking at stuff like that, like to
• 26:51
Speaker 3: your point, if I'm looking around and I'm a very
• 26:54
Speaker 3: highly sought after Holly Tuted, you know, quarterback, and I'm
• 26:58
Speaker 3: driving a Honda Civic and and somebody got Mercedes Benz
• 27:02
Speaker 3: money for me over there, and and my family don't
• 27:05
Speaker 3: get it, and I may be putting myself on the
• 27:10
Speaker 3: football field in a worse position. And I'm just saying,
• 27:13
Speaker 3: I think that's what ineequate inequality, so that it comes
• 27:18
Speaker 3: into play. I think that they've created something that that
• 27:24
Speaker 3: they're gonna have to They're gonna have to cap it.
• 27:25
Speaker 4: They're gonna have to do something so that.
• 27:30
Speaker 3: I'm not because right now, what you're doing is you're
• 27:32
Speaker 3: chasing your You're you could you're judging your talent based
• 27:38
Speaker 3: on where your money is.
• 27:39
Speaker 5: But no, I see I think I think, Yo, Okay,
• 27:42
  Speaker 5: you're right, but I don't think you're I think in
• 27:45
Speaker 5: some situations, I'm not saying, ah, in some situations, you're not,
• 27:50
Speaker 5: like you said, you're basing your talent. Your talent is
• 27:52
Speaker 5: going where the money at instead of your talent going
• 27:55
Speaker 5: to where you're actually going to be able to be
• 27:57
Speaker 5: matured and you're gonna learn the fundamentals and you're actually
• 28:01
Speaker 5: going to be schooled correctly in order to make that
• 28:03
Speaker 5: lead to the next level.
• 28:04
Speaker 3: And last thing before we go for a quick break,
• 28:09
Speaker 3: see the system the way if and I'm I'm pretty
• 28:12
Speaker 3: sure that this is the way the system because it's
• 28:14
Speaker 3: it's just like it is.
• 28:15
  Speaker 4: In the pros.
• 28:16
Speaker 3: If you play, if you're the starting quarterback, I can't.
• 28:20
Speaker 3: There's no way I can make more than you. If
• 28:22
Speaker 3: i'm you know, if I'm your backup, or if i'm
• 28:26
Speaker 3: if I'm not in maybe a.
• 28:27
Speaker 4: More maybe more seniority, yes, yes, yes.
• 28:31
  Speaker 3: So if I'm a sophomore and and i'm I'm a
• 28:35
Speaker 3: corner and I've made a few plays, but you're the
• 28:37
  Speaker 3: guy quarterback, I can't. There's no way I can make
• 28:42
Speaker 3: maybe even close to your money or your money, or
• 28:45
Speaker 3: make more than you because the first the moment you
• 28:48
Speaker 3: figure out that I'm making more. But it's a problem.
• 28:54
  Speaker 3: I mean that's because that's the whole other thing. That's
• 28:56
Speaker 3: that that happens in the league. Man Like when you
• 28:58
Speaker 3: find out somebody's making this kind of money and and
• 29:01
Speaker 3: you're thinking that you're better than them. There's no way
• 29:03
Speaker 3: they can be making more than you. Brother, there's a problem.
• 29:06
Speaker 3: All right, ladies and gentlemen, we're gonna take a quick
• 29:08
Speaker 3: break and we'll be right.

• 30:10
Speaker 3: Hello, ladies and gentlemen, we're back. I just want to
• 30:12
Speaker 3: give another shout out to Frank Walker. You can reach
• 30:16
Speaker 3: Frank Walker at frank walker law dot com for more information.
• 30:23
Speaker 4: Hollis, we were talking.
• 30:26
Speaker 3: A little bit about all the different money situations that
• 30:29
Speaker 3: could that could take place, and you have something else
• 30:32
Speaker 3: you want to want to jump into.
• 30:34
Speaker 5: We got to talk about the Aaron Rodgers situation. As
• 30:37
Speaker 5: you know, they again the Jets are struggling this season.
• 30:40
Speaker 5: I wouldn't stay struggling. The season is still young. Like
• 30:43
Speaker 5: I said, we don't want to rest yet. Yeah, but
• 30:46
Speaker 5: again there's been a lot of speculation. Obviously the Jets
• 30:48
Speaker 5: fire the coach. A lot of people believe that that's
• 30:51
Speaker 5: from Aaron Rodgers. He probably pushed for that, although I
• 30:54
Speaker 5: guess he would probably be at me lead Denive Thatt
• 30:57
Speaker 5: and just you know, being a former player at that level,
• 31:01
Speaker 5: you know, just kind of going back into the locker
• 31:04
Speaker 5: room and you know a player has that sort of
• 31:07
Speaker 5: clout and power, particularly at the quarterback position. Kind of
• 31:10
Speaker 5: how is that view like, how do you how do
• 31:13
Speaker 5: the guys think of something like that. When you know
• 31:16
Speaker 5: this coach or that coach is gone because of this player,
• 31:19
Speaker 5: and the player still remains.
• 31:20
Speaker 3: First and foremost. That power is that power is there, Okay,
• 31:25
Speaker 3: that power. That power does work. Now, what's amazing to
• 31:32
Speaker 3: me is that it's who it is I think is
• 31:38
Speaker 3: what matters. But see who he is is not who
• 31:41
Speaker 3: he used to be. Okay, And that's my thing. Okay,
• 31:45
Speaker 3: and that's my point. I'm glad you went there because imagine,
• 31:48
Speaker 3: like I said, you're a young dB. Maybe you know,
• 31:51
Speaker 3: your second third year you just signed a long term contract,
• 31:54
Speaker 3: so four or five year contract, you signed it. And
• 31:57
Speaker 3: now you have this quarterback who's forty plus, who's on
• 32:00
Speaker 3: definitely the down side of his career. He's probably got
• 32:03
Speaker 3: one or two more seasons left, and yeah, four throws
• 32:07
Speaker 3: and he gets the coach fires, Like, how does that
• 32:09
Speaker 3: play in your mind? Because here's the here's the other thing. Okay,
• 32:13
Speaker 3: I'm the dB second third year. I like my coordinator,
• 32:17
Speaker 3: you know, I like my dB coach, which might not
• 32:21
Speaker 3: be on the staff but with a new.
• 32:23
Speaker 4: Head coach, and the quarterback might not be there because
• 32:26
Speaker 4: he's probably going to retire.
• 32:27
Speaker 3: Some right, so he he's likely to retire. Like you said,
• 32:31
Speaker 3: year two two Max, I think two Max, this is
• 32:38
Speaker 3: something that organizations buy into that they can't possibly be
• 32:47
Speaker 3: another Aaron Rodgers. They can't, they can't not they can't
• 32:50
Speaker 3: be another Joe Montana. But what we see are there
• 32:57
Speaker 3: are other great quarterbacks. Yeah, all over the place. No
• 33:01
Speaker 3: they're not Joe Montana, but there's something in their own
• 33:04
  Speaker 3: rights special.
• 33:05
  Speaker 4: Yeah.
• 33:06
Speaker 3: And I think what happens is these these guys like,
• 33:10
Speaker 3: who's the guy who's gonna walk up and say, hey,
• 33:14
Speaker 3: you gotta go go see the coach, Go go go,
• 33:17
Speaker 3: go go upstairs to see management.
• 33:20
Speaker 4: Who's going who's gonna be that person?
• 33:22
Speaker 3: And and and do I think do I think that
• 33:25
Speaker 3: that's a possibility of of of of a.
• 33:28
Speaker 4: Player having getting a coach fired? Absolutely? If because.
• 33:33
Speaker 3: When I come to your team, when I come to
• 33:35
Speaker 3: your team, I go to New Orleans, and New Orleans
• 33:39
Speaker 3: is not playing a lot of bump and run. Okay,
• 33:42
  Speaker 3: like I'm that's who That's who I am. That's that's
• 33:45
Speaker 3: what I've been able to do. You know, I don't
• 33:50
  Speaker 3: get I don't have that power. I don't have that
• 33:52
Speaker 3: juice to say, Okay, well look look, yeah, I need
• 33:54
Speaker 3: to be playing some man to man.
• 33:56
  Speaker 4: You know.
• 33:56
Speaker 3: Now we got to being able to play some man
• 33:58
Speaker 3: a man just but that was in conversation and all
• 34:01
Speaker 3: that kind of stuff. But imagine being Aaron Rodgers. Yeah,
• 34:06
Speaker 3: and I saw it's the whole change.
• 34:08
  Speaker 4: Yeah.
• 34:08
Speaker 5: And I'll say this in defense of Aaron Rodgers. When
• 34:11
Speaker 5: we look at the coaching situation and we look at
• 34:13
Speaker 5: kind of what happened to Zach Wilson after Aaron Rodgers
• 34:15
Speaker 5: got hurt last year and then in sort of the
• 34:18
Speaker 5: failure to bring a veteran in to try to salvage
• 34:21
Speaker 5: what the seasons was because they had a dynamic defense
• 34:23
Speaker 5: last year. So I think maybe management ownership can probably
• 34:27
Speaker 5: justify the firing based on what happened last year and
• 34:31
Speaker 5: kind of what's happening in the beginning of this year.
• 34:33
Speaker 5: But if it it was the case that Aaron Rodgers
• 34:38
Speaker 5: pushed for the coast to go, I think that's a
• 34:41
Speaker 5: failure on management because I can't let you, as a
• 34:43
Speaker 5: forty plus year old downhill quarterback, decide my mediate and
• 34:48
  Speaker 5: long term future.
• 34:50
Speaker 3: I don't know this for a fact, but in the draft,
• 34:56
Speaker 3: what did they do in the draft, Because you know,
• 34:58
Speaker 3: you got you got a forty seven year old co
• 35:00
Speaker 3: what about I'm gonna say, I don't think so. So,
• 35:03
Speaker 3: so you put it and why would you not draft
• 35:07
Speaker 3: a first round pick? Because if you draft a first
• 35:09
Speaker 3: round pick and you're gonna pay him, that puts pressure
• 35:11
Speaker 3: on me because you know, if I'm the quarterback, now
• 35:15
Speaker 3: you you gotta pay this dude a bunch of money.
• 35:18
Speaker 3: You're paying me already. Yeah, I'm your guy.
• 35:22
Speaker 5: But she ain't got that much longer. You know what
• 35:24
Speaker 5: I'm saying. It's like what people clown what Atlanta was doing. Right,
• 35:27
Speaker 5: they had Kirk Cousins. They bath they drafted the kid
• 35:30
Speaker 5: out of Washington. Why would you do that? Well, they
• 35:32
Speaker 5: know Kirk Cousins probably ain't two, three, four, maybe maybe
• 35:35
Speaker 5: three years, and they can bring this kid right along.
• 35:37
Speaker 3: And he hasn't won. He hasn't won anything. You know,
• 35:42
Speaker 3: he has won, you know, he just is not that guy.
• 35:44
Speaker 3: So can we get an experienced guy to maybe make
• 35:47
Speaker 3: us a little bit better and then when we get
• 35:48
Speaker 3: into the into the draft.
• 35:50
Speaker 4: Now we can go into the draft and get us
• 35:52
  Speaker 4: a quarterback.
• 35:52
Speaker 5: So you said the judt should have probably got a
• 35:54
Speaker 5: first round Absolutely, I can't disagree with you, Now, why
• 35:59
  Speaker 5: would you not?
• 35:59
Speaker 4: But the only reason you wouldn't is because of Yeah, Rogers,
• 36:03
Speaker 4: tell me why you wouldn't go get a quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
• 36:06
  Speaker 4: Daron Rodgers, And that's great. I can't.
• 36:08
Speaker 5: I don't know if I'm in like kind of management
• 36:11
Speaker 5: ownership position. I you know, to have some quarterback like
• 36:14
Speaker 5: Aaron Rodgers, definitely, you think you could have some things going.
• 36:16
Speaker 5: But I but you got a plan for the future, right,
• 36:19
Speaker 5: But for the for the quarterback? Who is the dude?
• 36:23
Speaker 4: Right? Like I'm still here now?
• 36:27
Speaker 3: If you if you, if you tell me, like, look,
• 36:30
Speaker 3: we're gonna draft the quarterback first round because we want
• 36:33
Speaker 3: him to be under you for a couple of years.
• 36:36
Speaker 4: Okay, similar to what Green Bay did with Jordan Love.
• 36:39
Speaker 3: Yeah, that that that makes sense. Maybe that makes sense
• 36:43
  Speaker 3: to him.
• 36:44
  Speaker 5: And I would say it's a it's more imminent now
• 36:48
Speaker 5: because you're a forty plus year old quarterback and you
• 36:50
Speaker 5: ain't got that much time. You maybe have this season
• 36:52
Speaker 5: and another one and really truthfully, it just maybe this
• 36:55
Speaker 5: season and we got to start looking elsewhere.
• 36:57
Speaker 3: If you're in if you're in Minnesota and Mike linn
• 36:59
Speaker 3: is Is is the general manager, but you ain't having
• 37:03
Speaker 3: that conversation with him. You you ain't even you ain't
• 37:05
Speaker 3: even walking toward his office to even think that you
• 37:08
Speaker 3: might have that conversation.
• 37:10
Speaker 4: Right, he's gonna draft.
• 37:11
Speaker 3: He's gonna make it to the point if we need
• 37:14
Speaker 3: if he thought we need he's management now like he's
• 37:17
Speaker 3: you know, if he thinks we need a quarterback, Bro,
• 37:19
Speaker 3: we're gonna end up getting a quarterback.
• 37:21
Speaker 4: If we end up if we need DB's, we're gonna
• 37:23
  Speaker 4: get DB's.
• 37:24
  Speaker 3: He don't care, He wasn't caring about who's who's Who's
• 37:29
Speaker 3: Who's gonna get hurt? Whose feelings gonna get hurt? Because
• 37:32
Speaker 3: because we're bringing this guy in.
• 37:35
Speaker 5: Yeah, and speaking of trading, you know Davontae Adams, Aaron
• 37:41
Speaker 5: Rodgers former teammate in Green Bay now Okla Rata and
• 37:45
Speaker 5: it's from all speculations, look like he's demand in the trade.
• 37:48
Speaker 5: He's a wide receiver, was the all world wide receiver
• 37:51
Speaker 5: and he was, you know, Green Bay with Aaron Rodgers.
• 37:56
Speaker 5: Kind of what what is the thought process behind that?
• 37:58
Speaker 5: You know, you be even a former player and you
• 38:01
Speaker 5: just being in a situation that's just not going anywhere.
• 38:05
Speaker 5: You probably don't like the system, the head coach from
• 38:08
Speaker 5: a business standpoint, do you kind of just have to
• 38:11
Speaker 5: get out of there to sort of preserve your career
• 38:13
Speaker 5: so your numbers don't totally just.
• 38:14
Speaker 3: Dip down again, Never had to experience that, because that's
• 38:18
Speaker 3: that wasn't even the thought process back in the day,
• 38:21
Speaker 3: right You If you was on a team and things
• 38:23
Speaker 3: were going bad and you're like, man, the only way
• 38:26
Speaker 3: you could quote get out of it was you you know,
• 38:30
Speaker 3: contract had to be up, and you just wasn't hearing
• 38:33
Speaker 3: nothing from from management. You You couldn't. You weren't going
• 38:37
Speaker 3: to demand a trade that wasn't really going to happen.
• 38:41
Speaker 3: So but but to try to figure out like what
• 38:48
Speaker 3: he's trying, what he's trying to, where he's trying to go,
• 38:51
Speaker 3: and what he's trying to get. But there ain't no
• 38:54
Speaker 3: guarantees how many how many the bike is a five
• 38:58
Speaker 3: and zero? Okay, who got that? Nobody thought that? So
• 39:03
Speaker 3: you can't you can't ever really assume what kind of
• 39:06
Speaker 3: team you on, what's getting ready to happen?
• 39:09
Speaker 4: Is it going to be good? Going to be bad?
• 39:11
Speaker 4: If it starts out.
• 39:12
Speaker 3: We talked about Marshall, We talked about the review starts
• 39:14
Speaker 3: out bad and all of a sudden, Oh we get
• 39:18
Speaker 3: into this run. These dudes are jumping as soon as
• 39:21
  Speaker 3: anything looks dark.
• 39:23
Speaker 5: But I say this though in his defense, I mean,
• 39:25
Speaker 5: the Raiders haven't been a quality, good organization in a
• 39:29
Speaker 5: lot of years. So at some point, if I'm a
• 39:32
Speaker 5: professional and I'm looking long term in order to maybe
• 39:36
Speaker 5: get that next contract, I probably gotta be thinking about
• 39:39
Speaker 5: moving on from a situation in the organization because, like
• 39:42
Speaker 5: you said it, But but if you're not going to
• 39:45
Speaker 5: you know, be at your full potential at that particular organization,
• 39:48
Speaker 5: you may want to think about moving on, particularly if
• 39:50
Speaker 5: things you're not you're losing, you're not getting your numbers.
• 39:54
Speaker 5: You know how that goes far as business and contract wise. Yeah,
• 39:56
Speaker 5: I mean we've seen Randy Moss not necessarily struggle, but
• 39:59
Speaker 5: it wasn't a great time with the Raiders. That just
• 40:02
Speaker 5: doesn't seem to be the landing spot for these top
• 40:04
  Speaker 5: wide receivers.
• 40:05
Speaker 3: Well, and I think and and part of that again,
• 40:08
Speaker 3: you know, the Raiders may be in this place of
• 40:10
Speaker 3: where they're you know, money's not they're not really throwing
• 40:13
Speaker 3: money around. And if and if you're not a team
• 40:16
Speaker 3: that's not throwing money around, there's no reason for you
• 40:19
Speaker 3: to bring in that that top dog.
• 40:22
Speaker 4: Player because he's going to demand some money.
• 40:26
Speaker 5: But yeah, yeah, but I think you also made demand
• 40:29
Speaker 5: just to be on a quality organization too, because I mean,
• 40:32
Speaker 5: how much does that come in a factor? But like
• 40:34
Speaker 5: I said, because I think you like, you're gonna make
• 40:36
Speaker 5: the money regardless right now.
• 40:38
Speaker 4: Again, how much you make is determined, you know, in
• 40:40
  Speaker 4: your contract.
• 40:41
Speaker 3: My reason to go to New Orleans, my reason to
• 40:43
Speaker 3: go to New Orleans, and I had a couple of
• 40:44
Speaker 3: teams that were out there, even even even Pete Carroll
• 40:48
Speaker 3: was want to be he was.
• 40:51
Speaker 4: With the forty nine ers, okay, And.
• 40:55
Speaker 3: My issue was like, I don't want to go anywhere
• 40:59
Speaker 3: and have to not necessarily fight for a position or
• 41:05
Speaker 3: that I'm not gonna that you're gonna bring me in
• 41:06
Speaker 3: and turn around and say, oh, well, you know, yeah,
• 41:09
Speaker 3: he's old, he ain't better than what we got, and
• 41:11
Speaker 3: we're gonna cut him. I ain't going somewhere to get cut.
• 41:14
Speaker 3: If you want me, then I wanted to. I wanted
• 41:16
Speaker 3: to guarantee contract for that one year, okay, And so
• 41:20
Speaker 3: the Saints offered that to me, and so I am,
• 41:24
Speaker 3: you know, to turn down Pete Carroll was a difficult
• 41:27
  Speaker 3: kind of thing.
• 41:28
Speaker 4: But I don't want to go out there.
• 41:29
Speaker 3: You got you're telling me, you're telling me you got
• 41:32
Speaker 3: some good guys. Okay, that's great. Now this is not
• 41:36
Speaker 3: about my skill set. This is about me being thirty three.
• 41:40
Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying, and I know where I'm at. Okay,
• 41:42
Speaker 3: I know, I know that it. You know, maybe I'm
• 41:46
Speaker 3: not gonna be the perfect you know, the player that
• 41:49
  Speaker 3: I thought I was prior to. But I don't want
• 41:52
Speaker 3: to go out there and then you send me home.
• 41:54
Speaker 5: So I guess what you're saying it was. It really
• 41:56
Speaker 5: depends on where you're at in your career. Yes, because again,
• 41:59
Speaker 5: if you kind of if you're looking at the you know,
• 42:02
Speaker 5: sort of the tail end of the career, do you
• 42:04
Speaker 5: want to go somewhere where I can get working stack
• 42:06
Speaker 5: of as much as possible, as far as on the
• 42:08
  Speaker 5: business side.
• 42:08
  Speaker 4: Right.
• 42:09
Speaker 5: However, I think if you're DeVante Adams, where you're sort
• 42:11
Speaker 5: of in your prime of your career, you may be thinking, hey,
• 42:14
Speaker 5: I want to go to a good organization where I
• 42:16
Speaker 5: got a chance to catch a lot of balls and win.
• 42:18
Speaker 3: But but that team might not need you.
• 42:22
Speaker 5: I don't know, you always need a Devonte Adams man.
• 42:26
Speaker 5: I mean, I see what you're saying. They might not
• 42:28
Speaker 5: have room for you may already have what they what
• 42:30
  Speaker 5: they have, but.
• 42:31
Speaker 3: Yeah, because because because what's gonna happen is somebody's got
• 42:34
  Speaker 3: to go.
• 42:35
Speaker 4: Yeah, somebody's gotta go.
• 42:36
Speaker 3: Now, you might have you might you might not have
• 42:39
Speaker 3: a guy who's him, but you may have a guy
• 42:40
Speaker 3: that you think man's gonna be. You know, he's gonna
• 42:42
Speaker 3: be great in a couple of years. Okay, Now what
• 42:45
Speaker 3: are you gonna do with him? Are you You ain't
• 42:48
  Speaker 3: gonna cut him?
• 42:50
Speaker 4: You know? And and and what's he gonna do?
• 42:52
Speaker 3: Because it ain't about really the ownership now because now
• 42:56
Speaker 3: it's the player that you gotta that you're gonna replace
• 42:59
  Speaker 3: him with.
• 43:00
Speaker 4: What is he gonna do? Right? He's leaving? Yeah, I
• 43:03
Speaker 4: mean it's trade, so yeah, you know he he coming in.
• 43:08
Speaker 3: The issue with those kinds of trades, somebody's what team
• 43:12
Speaker 3: do you know don't have a number one?
• 43:15
Speaker 4: I mean every team got a number one, but they
• 43:17
Speaker 4: may not be the number one, you know.
• 43:20
Speaker 3: But they think that they think that Okay, yeah, they
• 43:24
Speaker 3: think that getting paid that.
• 43:26
Speaker 4: Yeah, So why are we bringing him in?
• 43:30
Speaker 3: Why am I gonna bring him in because it's gonna
• 43:32
Speaker 3: you know, because again, like you said, it's business, right, Yeah,
• 43:35
Speaker 3: business is money. So now the question will will be
• 43:39
Speaker 3: who will be willing to throw that money out there?
• 43:42
Speaker 5: Yeah, And I mean he turns thirty two this season,
• 43:46
Speaker 5: which thirty two now is a little different than thirty
• 43:48
Speaker 5: two back in the day. Yes, because of how they
• 43:50
Speaker 5: treat their body in different things.
• 43:52
Speaker 3: In that nature, I give you that's making seventeen and
• 43:54
Speaker 3: a half million a year, schedule to make thirty six
• 43:58
Speaker 3: million in between twenty five and twenty six, twenty six
• 44:04
Speaker 3: if he if and again to that point, if if
• 44:07
Speaker 3: somebody's gonna be willing to pay that, I'm gonna pay
• 44:09
Speaker 3: that because he's originally signed a seventy two million dollar
• 44:13
Speaker 3: contract which is not fully guaranteed. So I mean, yeah,
• 44:17
Speaker 3: there's a lot to consider now, like I said, because
• 44:19
Speaker 3: you can't even just consider whether he's number one receiver,
• 44:22
Speaker 3: how he fits in bla bla. You have to consider
• 44:24
Speaker 3: taking on that contract to or something similar to it.
• 44:26
Speaker 4: Absolutely, and again to the guys that you've already paid.
• 44:30
Speaker 3: Yeah, I think that I think that becomes that becomes
• 44:34
Speaker 3: a huge challenge just simply because you know, we don't
• 44:40
  Speaker 3: have we don't, we don't.
• 44:41
Speaker 4: We don't have to do this, you know what I'm saying,
• 44:44
Speaker 4: We don't have to do this. And if we do it,
• 44:47
Speaker 4: what does it do? Does it?
• 44:48
Speaker 3: Does it mess up the chemistry? And again, chemistry is
• 44:53
Speaker 3: one of the things that I think is is under
• 44:58
Speaker 3: it's under the under the rug when it comes to money,
• 45:02
Speaker 3: because some of these dudes are only out here for
• 45:06
Speaker 3: the money. And I'm not even saying, yeah, they want
• 45:10
Speaker 3: to they want to make it their business, right, So
• 45:12
Speaker 3: I want to go to the highest bidder. Okay, that's fine,
• 45:15
Speaker 3: But if you're on the other side of that, I
• 45:19
Speaker 3: don't want to just get a guy who just wants
• 45:20
Speaker 3: to get money, even if he's just if he's good,
• 45:23
Speaker 3: I want to I need chemistry. I need because what
• 45:26
Speaker 3: is my goal is if my team is if the
• 45:31
Speaker 3: goal is to go to the super Bowl. But I
• 45:32
Speaker 3: don't need that knucklehead guy just because he's good.
• 45:36
Speaker 4: And I mean, yeah, that's another fact that he considered
• 45:38
  Speaker 4: as well.
• 45:38
Speaker 3: And not saying that, you know, Adams, I'm not yeah,
• 45:40
Speaker 3: I'm not saying that, but I'm just saying, you don't
• 45:43
Speaker 3: even want to create a situation where a guy is
• 45:46
Speaker 3: coming in and his expectation is he's going to be
• 45:49
Speaker 3: the number one guy, and maybe he's not going to be.
• 45:51
Speaker 3: Maybe he's not going to be your number one guy.
• 45:54
Speaker 3: Even though he's a number one guy. You already got
• 45:57
Speaker 3: that guy who doesn't have that guy regardless of if
• 45:59
Speaker 3: he he's good or not, he's considered himself the number one.
• 46:04
Speaker 3: You have given him the credit as being the number one.
• 46:07
Speaker 5: I didn't necessarily think about that far as like positionals,
• 46:10
Speaker 5: you know, coming in particularly like mid season, and hey,
• 46:13
  Speaker 5: I'm asserting myself because I'm.
• 46:15
Speaker 4: That right, Yeah, because he's coming in as one. Yeah.
• 46:19
Speaker 5: So jumping back to college football just for a second,
• 46:21
Speaker 5: talking about Alabama losing the Randy Like, like I want
• 46:26
Speaker 5: to say, whoever bet Vandy is still in Vegas right
• 46:30
Speaker 5: now living it up. I get if you pissed a
• 46:33
Speaker 5: couple of thousand on that team right now, you maybe
• 46:36
Speaker 5: can buy a house or a car. Because this is
• 46:38
Speaker 5: something I never would have seen coming Alabama that beat Georgia,
• 46:42
Speaker 5: number one team to come country rivalry, all that big,
• 46:45
Speaker 5: huge win, great game, and I don't think probably what
• 46:48
Speaker 5: it looked like to me watching the game, they just
• 46:50
Speaker 5: didn't they weren't They didn't come down from that game.
• 46:56
Speaker 3: I've said this before and I say it again. Nick
• 46:59
Speaker 3: Satan's not losing that game, man. Nick Saban is not
• 47:02
Speaker 3: losing that game. I'm just telling you because you Nick
• 47:07
Speaker 3: Saban is not that team is is not going to
• 47:11
Speaker 3: lay down because they are continue celebrating a win and
• 47:16
Speaker 3: carry that over into a nown to what's a loss
• 47:20
  Speaker 3: to a.
• 47:20
  Speaker 4: Team that.
• 47:22
Speaker 3: Shouldn't even shouldn't even play You could be playing your backups. Okay, yes,
• 47:29
Speaker 3: Nick Saban is that's not happening.
• 47:31
  Speaker 4: Now.
• 47:32
Speaker 3: That does not mean that the coach is not a
• 47:33
Speaker 3: great coach. It doesn't mean that. But I'm just making
• 47:36
Speaker 3: the case. When you want to ask the question the
• 47:40
Speaker 3: relevance of Nick Saban here is here's the relevance of him.
• 47:44
Speaker 4: You don't you don't lose that kind of game under
• 47:47
  Speaker 4: a Nick Saban.
• 47:48
Speaker 5: Yeah, he seems pretty you know, stern in that. I
• 47:51
Speaker 5: don't know if he necessary, but but I'll say this
• 47:54
Speaker 5: though too. Nick Saban also did say on the tele
• 47:57
Speaker 5: on the broadcast, hey, you know, he he really downplayed
• 48:01
Speaker 5: Bandy and like, we don't lose the teams like that.
• 48:04
Speaker 5: So but I'm thinking in his preparation. I don't know
• 48:07
Speaker 5: if the team whoever he's playing, really comes into mind.
• 48:11
Speaker 5: The preparation is the preparation right with him, it's always
• 48:15
Speaker 5: the same. It's consistent.
• 48:16
Speaker 4: Yes, yes, and see that that.
• 48:21
Speaker 3: My thought process of Nick Saban is the moment that
• 48:25
Speaker 3: you just won this big game, and that that that
• 48:28
Speaker 3: you've got this little game coming up. Yeah, the very
• 48:32
Speaker 3: first thing app before we even get done celebrating the win.
• 48:37
Speaker 3: We're the very first thing I'm talking about Now we
• 48:40
Speaker 3: need to take the same kind of energy into next week.
• 48:45
  Speaker 4: We don't.
• 48:45
Speaker 3: We don't want to look at who the team is.
• 48:46
Speaker 3: We don't want to look at the record, we don't
• 48:48
Speaker 3: want to look at none of that. We want to
• 48:50
Speaker 3: play at this same level they want to practice.
• 48:53
Speaker 4: First thing. We talking about playing at the level that
• 48:56
  Speaker 4: we play at.
• 48:57
Speaker 3: It was extremely difficult because I mean, you're talking about
• 49:01
Speaker 3: playing Georgia. It's Georgia and Alabama's top five teams at
• 49:05
Speaker 3: the time, right, that's basically a super Bowl, a college
• 49:08
Speaker 3: football championship, not in the middle of the season, in
• 49:11
Speaker 3: the beginning of in the September October. That's basically the
• 49:15
Speaker 3: biggest game probably almost of the season, other than the
• 49:18
Speaker 3: championship game, and I don't know how you come down
• 49:22
Speaker 3: from that in a week, and then you got to
• 49:24
Speaker 3: face a team like that, which you, like you said,
• 49:27
Speaker 3: we can play our third string and possibly beat them.
• 49:29
Speaker 3: It is. It is really difficult. But now let's go
• 49:34
Speaker 3: back and and I'm sure that you can't recall, nor
• 49:38
Speaker 3: can I recall. Maybe the listeners maybe can't recall, but
• 49:42
Speaker 3: maybe have to go look it up.
• 49:46
Speaker 4: Do you remember? Can you remember a game?
• 49:49
Speaker 3: Because I'm sure that Nick Saban had some games that
• 49:52
Speaker 3: were big games and then came back and it was
• 49:55
Speaker 3: playing somebody that was they're so so I'm not sure
• 49:59
Speaker 3: that Nick Saban lost it of those games.
• 50:01
Speaker 4: We would have heard about that.
• 50:02
  Speaker 5: I mean, I can't, but I think that would have
• 50:05
Speaker 5: been brought up somewhere, and I don't think and why
• 50:08
Speaker 5: he was on his run at least, and he's like
• 50:10
Speaker 5: maybe in the beginning somewhere.
• 50:11
Speaker 4: No way Nick Saban loses a game like that.
• 50:14
Speaker 3: Why because he's gonna whatever his magic was, whatever his
• 50:19
Speaker 3: conversations were in the locker room. On the field, you're
• 50:24
Speaker 3: ready to play that team, just like you were ready
• 50:27
Speaker 3: to play the number one team or number two team.
• 50:30
Speaker 3: Everybody don't know how to do that. I don't know
• 50:32
Speaker 3: how to do that. You know what I'm saying, You
• 50:34
Speaker 3: just don't. That's not something that you just wake up
• 50:38
Speaker 3: and do. You have to have that has to be
• 50:41
Speaker 3: who you are. And Nick Saban, to me, I don't
• 50:45
Speaker 3: think anybody can can top all of the different things
• 50:51
Speaker 3: that he constructed in the coaching system, not just him,
• 50:56
Speaker 3: but his coaching staff, and what he drew into his
• 51:01
Speaker 3: into his players, what he forced into his players, and
• 51:04
Speaker 3: how he made them play and how they enjoy playing,
• 51:07
Speaker 3: and how they understood who they were Alabama, Okay, and
• 51:13
  Speaker 3: you don't.
• 51:14
Speaker 4: Alabama does not lose.
• 51:17
Speaker 3: Football games the teams that they're supposed to beat, and
• 51:21
Speaker 3: they beat the teams that everybody thinks that they might
• 51:23
Speaker 3: not be able to. That's what we do here at Alabama.
• 51:27
Speaker 3: I'm not I'm sure that's not what he said, but
• 51:29
  Speaker 3: I'm saying.
• 51:30
Speaker 4: That might have said it.
• 51:31
Speaker 3: That's who I think Nick Saban is, and I think
• 51:36
Speaker 3: his players bought that. You come in, you was, you
• 51:39
Speaker 3: were with Nick Saban for two years. You come in
• 51:42
Speaker 3: and you get a whole nother kind of speech. All right, guys,
• 51:44
Speaker 3: this team's you know, you know, let's go. We can
• 51:48
Speaker 3: get them that ain't enough, that ain't enough, that ain't
• 51:52
  Speaker 3: that ain't.
• 51:53
Speaker 5: Enough to be san See, this is why for those
• 51:56
Speaker 5: who don't understand athletics, for those who don't understand sport,
• 52:01
Speaker 5: that's why a coach is critical. You gotta have the
• 52:04
Speaker 5: right if you're if you're in, particularly if you're winning games.
• 52:06
Speaker 5: I'm just talking about we're talking about purely w's and l's.
• 52:10
Speaker 5: A coach in that is critical because again, I think
• 52:15
Speaker 5: a lot of us who have coached before can probably
• 52:18
Speaker 5: get you up for the big game.
• 52:20
Speaker 4: But yeah, that's the easy part. We can get you up.
• 52:22
Speaker 5: We can do all the preparation, but it's those little that, hey,
• 52:24
Speaker 5: we're supposed to win, and sometimes those become difficult. And
• 52:28
Speaker 5: I know that's been a criticism of coach huff Right,
• 52:31
Speaker 5: he give them up for the big games, and they
• 52:32
Speaker 5: sort of lose the little ones.
• 52:33
  Speaker 3: Right, because he's a because he's a he's a good talker,
• 52:36
Speaker 3: you know, and he's a motivator.
• 52:39
Speaker 4: What's happening is, I think is the motivation isn't always.
• 52:44
Speaker 3: I don't know, connect. It may not connect. He's not
• 52:48
Speaker 3: he's probably putting it the same way. But the players
• 52:51
Speaker 3: not taking it. They're not hearing it because they're looking
• 52:53
Speaker 3: at the film, they're looking at the record.
• 52:55
Speaker 4: They like, oh man, and that's one of the most dangerous.
• 52:58
Speaker 5: Absolutely, you got to take everybody as you know, like
• 53:00
Speaker 5: Lou Holtz they win a championship to yeah, I got
• 53:03
  Speaker 5: a championship team.
• 53:04
Speaker 4: We gotta come out strong, you know, I think, and
• 53:06
  Speaker 4: you know, to.
• 53:08
Speaker 3: The public, it's kind of the same kind of thing
• 53:12
Speaker 3: when you when you start to think about you're like
• 53:15
Speaker 3: a kid, like you think he's good and so you
• 53:21
Speaker 3: just think he can just go out and be good
• 53:24
  Speaker 3: every game against every team. It's it's a different it's
• 53:29
Speaker 3: a it's a different mindset, bro. When you go in
• 53:33
Speaker 3: when you go into Chicago Bright, when Chicago was everything right,
• 53:39
Speaker 3: you go into Chicago Bright, be just a half an
• 53:46
Speaker 3: inch off for you're getting killed. Yeah, you know, when
• 53:50
Speaker 3: you go into Chicago, you better be like like every
• 53:54
Speaker 3: every one of your senses better be working top notch
• 53:58
Speaker 3: if not a buve.
• 53:59
  Speaker 5: You see, I don't know. I just don't know how
• 54:02
  Speaker 5: you if you're Bama, I don't I do not understand.
• 54:05
Speaker 5: I don't know how you come off that win and
• 54:07
Speaker 5: have that against Vandy.
• 54:10
  Speaker 4: I don't know.
• 54:11
Speaker 3: I don't know how you muster that up. I mean,
• 54:12
Speaker 3: like you said, maybe a saving magic. I don't know,
• 54:14
Speaker 3: maybe you got the pixie dust, the mountain dust, whatever.
• 54:17
Speaker 3: I don't know how you muster that up after And
• 54:20
Speaker 3: I'm not saying in general, I'm saying particularly after a
• 54:24
Speaker 3: win like Georgia, in a game like that, and I think,
• 54:27
  Speaker 3: and I think, like you know, I think there's a
• 54:31
Speaker 3: I think there's a coach that has all the all
• 54:36
Speaker 3: the magic in his hand, and he's at a team,
• 54:41
Speaker 3: he's at a program that he that he builds it,
• 54:44
Speaker 3: and and they start to buy into that belief.
• 54:49
  Speaker 4: Yeah, Chicago, bro.
• 54:52
Speaker 3: The thought that they was gonna not just beat you,
• 54:55
Speaker 3: not just win the game, but they were gonna beat
• 54:57
Speaker 3: you down. They were gonna physically beat you down so
• 55:00
Speaker 3: that the next time you come in here to play again,
• 55:03
Speaker 3: you ain't gonna forget.
• 55:04
Speaker 4: That Alabama had that.
• 55:08
Speaker 3: You come in as a recruit, a freshman at that program,
• 55:13
Speaker 3: what's the first thing you know? You probably ain't playing
• 55:16
Speaker 3: why because you not in tune yet? You think you
• 55:20
Speaker 3: can go out and celebrate it. You know, you can
• 55:22
Speaker 3: have played in one game and not not here. You
• 55:27
Speaker 3: needed to have gone somewhere else. I just think that
• 55:31
Speaker 3: that program under Nick Saban, certain teams you know, old
• 55:36
Speaker 3: Packers back in the day. I mean, and I think
• 55:39
Speaker 3: this is all still connected to as far back as
• 55:41
Speaker 3: you want to go. The team and the connection with
• 55:44
Speaker 3: the coach and if they can find a marriage that
• 55:48
  Speaker 3: is unseparable.
• 55:51
Speaker 4: Broh, thank you. I mean, I mean, you're right.
• 55:56
Speaker 5: I think we had the same thing with Phil Jackson.
• 55:58
Speaker 5: We had the same thing as say, oh he had
• 56:00
Speaker 5: great players, but they wouldn't win the chips till he came.
• 56:03
Speaker 3: Exactly what I mean, and again, look at that, look
• 56:06
Speaker 3: at the personality that we build. We build that personality.
• 56:11
Speaker 3: He's he is who he is, right, like Phil Jocks said,
• 56:14
Speaker 3: is just who he is. But who he was to
• 56:16
Speaker 3: those players and what he brought to those what he
• 56:19
Speaker 3: was saying practice, what he expected from him.
• 56:22
Speaker 4: They were like, oh you expect this, I mean because
• 56:26
Speaker 4: go back to state. Well, you know, my first year.
• 56:29
Speaker 3: Down the state or when you're there, I'm trying to
• 56:34
Speaker 3: I'm trying to convince everybody to be where top of
• 56:38
Speaker 3: your game, as top shape as you can play, give
• 56:41
Speaker 3: everything that you got. Everybody wasn't on board with that.
• 56:46
Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying everybody wasn't they weren't they?
• 56:49
Speaker 3: You know? And so when you when so now I'm
• 56:52
Speaker 3: pushing you, You're okay with that push. I'm pushing somebody else.
• 57:00
  Speaker 4: Man.
• 57:01
Speaker 3: I don't like coach coach tripping. Man, he always da
• 57:04
Speaker 3: da dada. How can a coach be tripping if he
• 57:07
Speaker 3: wants the best out of you? You know what I'm saying,
• 57:12
Speaker 3: Because at the end of the day, you can say,
• 57:15
Speaker 3: you can say that coach is tripping if you're not playing, right,
• 57:18
Speaker 3: you know that's that's justifiable, right because you think you
• 57:21
Speaker 3: should play. But if you playing, you rotating in you
• 57:25
Speaker 3: you in a regular schedule like you get in the game,
• 57:28
Speaker 3: you doing something you can't you can't. There's nothing you
• 57:32
Speaker 3: can say about the coach because I'm giving you an
• 57:37
Speaker 3: opportunity to play. Now, I'm trying to tell you, dude,
• 57:41
Speaker 3: you're better than that. You hear me, Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah,
• 57:45
Speaker 3: Then you go do whatever you want to do it evening.
• 57:48
Speaker 3: And then by the time we get the game time,
• 57:50
Speaker 3: you ain't ready to go.
• 57:51
Speaker 4: You ain't. You ain't even playing full You can't play.
• 57:54
Speaker 3: You can't play top knots cause you because you ain't
• 57:59
Speaker 3: put in no work in the week, you didn't try
• 58:02
Speaker 3: to stayed up too late.
• 58:04
Speaker 4: Yeah, and now the coach gets all that blame. But
• 58:09
Speaker 4: I mean that's the game, right, that is the game.
• 58:11
  Speaker 4: I mean, I to your point, do I think I
• 58:13
Speaker 4: think you might be right?
• 58:14
  Speaker 3: Man.
• 58:15
Speaker 4: I think at the end of the day, saving him
• 58:17
Speaker 4: was probably the missing piece of that game. Yes, sir,
• 58:20
Speaker 4: And it doesn't mean that this team won't be a
• 58:22
Speaker 4: national champion. Yeah, I don't know now, but and you
• 58:26
  Speaker 4: know who else.
• 58:27
Speaker 3: Is not thinking that the other teams that they play
• 58:30
Speaker 3: because if that, if that happened, Oh, we can catch them.
• 58:34
Speaker 4: Yeah, we just need to catch them the right time. Yep. Yeah.
• 58:40
Speaker 3: Well, ladies and gentlemen, we got to get out of
• 58:41
Speaker 3: here and we will be back next week. Thank you,
• 58:45
  Speaker 3: break your wall.

Speaker 1: say shit's a bath for you. Wise Vineitary Sweet couldn't
• 59:14
Speaker 1: play with big kids. I had to sit in the

Speaker 1: street and watch from a distance.
• 59:17
Speaker 4: But over time I grew. If I put in the work, in.
• 59:20
