- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning. OK, I'm a confessed certainty
- 0:31freak. If you're a long time listener,
- 0:33you know that I refer to myself this way.
- 0:35One of my primary emotions is the drive for certainty.
- 0:39Like I am a certain. I refer to her as certainty girl
- 0:42driving my bus. And anybody who's been here for
- 0:44a while knows that. And I've had more and more
- 0:48people ask me, well, do you think I'm certainty driven?
- 0:51Do you think I'm certainty driven?
- 0:52Well, here's the thing about emotions.
- 0:56We all experience them all. It's just like our senses.
- 1:00You know, you've heard people talk about the fact that you can
- 1:04be visually oriented, you can be auditorily oriented, you can be,
- 1:10you know, you have all these different types of ways of
- 1:12interpreting the world. So some people are visual, some
- 1:15people are auditory, some people are kinesthetic, some people are
- 1:18olfactory, meaning they can smell that their sense of smell
- 1:21drives them. But here's the thing, we are all
- 1:24all, all of those things. So to think that you're one and
- 1:29only one is mistaken. We operate in totality and it's
- 1:35always in flux. So while I am super certainty
- 1:39driven, like I can't begin to tell you how certainty driven I
- 1:43am. The time of day I do things the,
- 1:45the way I fold my towels, how I organize, how I can't.
- 1:50I, I choose not to go to bed until the sink is done.
- 1:54I say I can't and then I change it to I choose because I know I
- 1:57could, but I choose not to. I actually choose to go to bed
- 2:01until the sink is completely all set, organized, no dirty dishes,
- 2:05everything's done. And you know, I've heard people
- 2:09in my past say you're a control freak.
- 2:11Well, if I was a control freak, I'd be putting it on everybody
- 2:14else to do it and I don't. I do it because I'm very, very
- 2:18particular and certainty driven for what I want and it makes me
- 2:22feel good that way. So it's it and it's not.
- 2:25It has nothing to do with control.
- 2:27It has to do with me feeling like my orbit, my world, it.
- 2:31I have some way to make it as I need it to be, to feel good.
- 2:37I don't put it on anybody else. Nobody in my house has to
- 2:40operate that way. I asked them to do certain
- 2:43things like please put your dishes in the dishwasher.
- 2:45But I think that that's standard operating procedure and they do
- 2:48it and then I clean up the way I want to clean up it's.
- 2:53And I'm using that as an example because it's a very common one
- 2:56in most homes where the kitchen is a big point of contention for
- 3:00people because someone will come in, they'll have a bowl of
- 3:03cereal, They'll leave the cereal bowl in the sink instead of
- 3:05putting it in the dishwasher or washing it.
- 3:07If you don't have a dishwasher. And it causes more arguments and
- 3:12people be your control freak, you're this.
- 3:15Well, if someone has the the need to operate in cleanliness
- 3:20so that their head can be clear and they can think, that's not
- 3:24necessarily saying that they're a control freak as much as
- 3:27they're trying to find their optimal conditions in which to
- 3:30operate. And aren't we all?
- 3:32So again, we go back to the totality of everyone is always
- 3:37working in all of these modalities, not just one.
- 3:41And to make matters more complicated, certainty looking
- 3:46for is, is directly linked to safety.
- 3:49And safety is a primary hardwiring in our brains that we
- 3:53cannot get away from because we're humans and we have to
- 3:56survive. So we're always seeking safety.
- 3:59So no matter what we do, we can't get away from it.
- 4:02We're always seeking, seeking safety, even when you think
- 4:06you're on the edge and you're like, oh, no, no, no, no, I'm,
- 4:08I'm a risk taker. I'm going to go bungee jump.
- 4:11You're not just tying a rope around your waist and jumping
- 4:14off of a platform and a Cliff. You're making sure that that
- 4:18rubber band is attached. You're making sure that you're
- 4:23cabled up. So even the risk takers, the
- 4:26ones that climb Mount Everest, do everything they can to ensure
- 4:31their safety and certainty. Do you see this?
- 4:35It's hard wired into us. They have a higher tolerance for
- 4:38where they're going to use it than some.
- 4:40Like I would never do those things.
- 4:42I would never bungee jump. Not in a million years.
- 4:44My husband has bungee jumped the tallest ones in the world in New
- 4:49Zealand and at the time they were the tallest ones.
- 4:52I don't know if they still are, but he did three different ones.
- 4:55I would never do that in a million years.
- 4:58There is no way that you could get me to do something like
- 5:01that. Not my biggest risk taking is
- 5:04what plants are going to be neighbors with others.
- 5:06I'm not a risk taker, but I am a risk taker in business I and he
- 5:11does not like doing that. I'm more of a risk taker with
- 5:14those kind of things. So we all have it.
- 5:17And again, it's a flux, it's a tank.
- 5:19It goes up and down, up and down, up and down.
- 5:21So if you're worried about the fact that you know you're that
- 5:25driving thing is happening and that you're hearing it and you
- 5:29know, there's so much going on in your head and people are
- 5:31pushing and you're feeling it, it's OK.
- 5:34It's OK. And you just have to stop and
- 5:37pause and make sure that you're very centered when you're going
- 5:41through those emotions because that's how you manage them.
- 5:44All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I
- 5:46will see you tomorrow. Bye.
