- 1:15Speaker 2: on YouTube. But today we are here recording episode fourteen,
- 1:21Speaker 2: and we have yet another special guest. She's the woman
- 1:23Speaker 2: who actually made our last interview with Treeny possible. We
- 1:26Speaker 2: meant to have her on as our first guest, but
- 1:28Speaker 2: due to some technical difficulties let's call it, let's blame.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Let's play Google drive data, Let's play Google Drive, let's
- 1:35Speaker 2: play Bye Cloud. We're putting me on the last I
- 1:38Speaker 2: said it before I give you our Yeah, I didn't
- 1:42Speaker 2: hit record. Sorry. One of our your hosts is a professional.
- 1:45Speaker 2: One is a drunken idiot just pushing button's like so,
- 1:49Speaker 2: but yeah, but we're making up for it for it today.
- 1:52Speaker 2: So this woman works in pr and promotion for the
- 1:55Speaker 2: boxing world. So let's not delay. Let's get her out here.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Let's welcome to the ring. Emily Gerd please put your
- 2:01Speaker 2: hands together. Everybody. Hi Emily. Yay.
- 2:04Speaker 5: Guys.
- 2:04Speaker 6: How's it going.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Going great? Now that you're here and we're actually recording
- 2:09Speaker 2: this time? So we apologize. I apologize sorry. I did
- 2:15Speaker 2: feel better once Jamis and our producer both said that
- 2:18Speaker 2: it happened to them before, so I was like, all right,
- 2:22Speaker 2: so it happened. Happens yeah, and we won't make you
- 2:25Speaker 2: repeat yourself too too much because we have a lot
- 2:27Speaker 2: of questions for you. But the first thing, please tell
- 2:30Speaker 2: the folks out there what exactly do you do? I
- 2:33Speaker 2: said PR promotion, but I don't know what it means
- 2:36Speaker 2: on the ground. Please tell us what is your job
- 2:38Speaker 2: in the boxing world.
- 2:40Speaker 6: I do a lot of different things.
- 2:42Speaker 5: I do PR for David Benavidez, for Blue Debella and
- 2:50Speaker 5: several Lakes small club promotions. And I also do event
- 2:54Speaker 5: operational support, so things like licensing and medicals and getting
- 2:59Speaker 5: the to the event, getting a doctor to the event,
- 3:03Speaker 5: dealing with the commission, dealing with the venue, just all
- 3:06Speaker 5: of those pieces that go into putting on an event.
- 3:09Speaker 5: I kind of manage a lot of that. I do
- 3:11Speaker 5: some matchmaking, though I try not to because it sucks.
- 3:15Speaker 2: So yeah, So at the end of March you had
- 3:19Speaker 2: an event promoting called bralin the Barrio in Phoenix, and
- 3:22Speaker 2: then a weekend or two ago there was one of
- 3:25Speaker 2: your fighters, Genie at Iron Boy Boxing and Phoenix as well.
- 3:29Speaker 2: So do you get a break in between these events
- 3:31Speaker 2: or is it always go go go, Like what's your
- 3:33Speaker 2: life like in between boxing events?
- 3:37Speaker 5: No, it's very busy because so that fight when it
- 3:41Speaker 5: was here in Phoenix, it takes a lot of time
- 3:43Speaker 5: because I live here, so I invest a little more
- 3:45Speaker 5: time in it just naturally, just because I'm here and
- 3:48Speaker 5: I'm very close to the promotion. And so that show
- 3:51Speaker 5: took a lot of time. And actually last Saturday or
- 3:54Speaker 5: last week, I had a show that I was helping
- 3:58Speaker 5: with PR for What's That Promotions in California on Thursday,
- 4:03Speaker 5: and then on Saturday, I had an MMA show that
- 4:06Speaker 5: I was running in Fargo and a boxing event in
- 4:11Speaker 5: Chicago that I had done all the paperwork in medicals
- 4:13Speaker 5: and budget and all of that for, and Trainy also
- 4:17Speaker 5: fought that day. So the three week ben really really intense.
- 4:22Speaker 5: So I've been kind of like recouping the last couple
- 4:24Speaker 5: of days. Though I have another event May tenth in Seattle,
- 4:30Speaker 5: and MMA event that I'm doing every you know, all
- 4:33Speaker 5: the medicals and everything for, so I'm working on getting
- 4:35Speaker 5: that stuff done and situated for that show and doing
- 4:38Speaker 5: all of the you know, hiring the staff and vendors
- 4:41Speaker 5: and all of that. And then I have a show
- 4:44Speaker 5: two weeks later in Laughlin, same deal, another MMA show,
- 4:48Speaker 5: and also we have PBC that day, which I do
- 4:52Speaker 5: all of their shuttles and everything, so I'll be managing
- 4:54Speaker 5: transportation for those for that event that same day and
- 4:57Speaker 5: that same week just remotely and June, you know, same
- 5:02Speaker 5: type of thing. I have shows the fourteenth and the
- 5:05Speaker 5: twenty eighth right now, mm May and boxing, so just
- 5:10Speaker 5: it's it doesn't really stop. So the last weeks for
- 5:15Speaker 5: duper intense.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Is there ever a lull? Because you know, me as
- 5:19Speaker 2: a as a spectator, as a boxing fan, I see,
- 5:21Speaker 2: you know, these guys are fighting and then there's like,
- 5:23Speaker 2: you know, six months of non activity, but it sounds
- 5:25Speaker 2: like there's always something to do in between events. Like
- 5:29Speaker 2: do you ever a time where's just like, oh, there's
- 5:30Speaker 2: two weeks with like no fights and nothing going on,
- 5:32Speaker 2: and I'm just gonna put my feet up.
- 5:34Speaker 5: Sure I used to, Yeah, I used to, for sure,
- 5:37Speaker 5: But since I took on World Fighting Championships, they have
- 5:40Speaker 5: so many shows that as soon as we're done with one,
- 5:43Speaker 5: like we just got the show Saturday, like Sunday, I'm
- 5:46Speaker 5: at the airport doing stuff for May tenth because it's
- 5:50Speaker 5: three weeks away or less than three weeks away now, right,
- 5:53Speaker 5: So with WFC getting added to my plate, not really,
- 5:57Speaker 5: there's not really downtime.
- 5:58Speaker 6: I'm also doing some like licensing for Top Rank for.
- 6:01Speaker 5: A couple of their shows as well, So it's just
- 6:03Speaker 5: there's always something so it which is great, I mean.
- 6:06Speaker 5: And then we also recently took on Growdex, which is
- 6:11Speaker 5: a custom bag company and they do they have some
- 6:15Speaker 5: patented products like certain types of bags, and we've taken
- 6:19Speaker 5: over their customer service. So my husband and my nephew
- 6:23Speaker 5: are kind of focusing on that part of the business.
- 6:25Speaker 5: And you know, we're just doing some different things. So
- 6:28Speaker 5: it's always busy and you know, trying to stay as
- 6:31Speaker 5: busy as possible while still meeting our customers expectations as
- 6:35Speaker 5: our goals right now, So.
- 6:37Speaker 2: I'm assuming you mean heavy bags like punching bags and
- 6:39Speaker 2: not like right yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah. So you
- 6:47Speaker 2: do all these events, you do all this stuff for them,
- 6:48Speaker 2: and you've been obviously doing this for a long time.
- 6:51Speaker 2: Is there Is it pretty by the numbers or is
- 6:53Speaker 2: there always something coming up with Every event has its
- 6:56Speaker 2: own difficulty or are you like, I know what I'm doing,
- 6:58Speaker 2: it's like buy the book now, or am I totally off.
- 7:01Speaker 5: The Markhe No, every event has its own insanity, Like
- 7:05Speaker 5: every event, something happens that you're like, how is this
- 7:07Speaker 5: even happening right now? Which last Saturday, we had a
- 7:10Speaker 5: fighter that kept disappearing, like he checked.
- 7:14Speaker 2: In fire a fire fighter, A fighter, okay.
- 7:19Speaker 6: Like a MMA fighter he was.
- 7:23Speaker 5: He just kept disappearing like he he checked in for
- 7:27Speaker 5: the meeting at four and then disappeared. So where he's
- 7:29Speaker 5: the third fight And I'm calling him and he's like,
- 7:32Speaker 5: I'm like where are He's like him in my room.
- 7:33Speaker 5: I said, what are you doing? He's like, I'm getting
- 7:35Speaker 5: a massage. I'm like, you're the third fight. He goes, oh,
- 7:38Speaker 5: I thought I was third from the end.
- 7:39Speaker 6: I'm like, so you just left?
- 7:40Speaker 5: Like so then he comes back and then he gives
- 7:44Speaker 5: his girlfriend his phone, so we're like, he disappears again.
- 7:48Speaker 5: So I call his phone and his girlfriend answered she
- 7:50Speaker 5: has no idea where he is, and then there's like
- 7:53Speaker 5: this mad search for his mouthpiece. It was just like
- 7:56Speaker 5: really insane, like to the point where like when he's
- 7:59Speaker 5: walked walking out to the ring, he disappeared again and
- 8:01Speaker 5: they had to go find him. So just something happens
- 8:04Speaker 5: every show. But I got to meet Caleb Truax for
- 8:07Speaker 5: the first time at that show. So that was nice
- 8:08Speaker 5: because we've been friends a long time.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Okay, okay, cool, So well, now I got to ask
- 8:13Speaker 2: specifically about issues with fighters like this. You know, if
- 8:16Speaker 2: something happens and the fight's about to come on, what happened?
- 8:19Speaker 2: Do you have any leeguway or is it one of
- 8:20Speaker 2: those like like a karate kid, like you got to
- 8:23Speaker 2: get back to the mat in like five minutes or
- 8:24Speaker 2: you're disqualified? Can you stretch that out? Do you have
- 8:27Speaker 2: any tips of tricks or what happens?
- 8:29Speaker 5: I don't know what would have happened, Like if he
- 8:33Speaker 5: hadn't shown up, would have obviously skipped his fight. I'd
- 8:37Speaker 5: like to think that we would try to get him
- 8:39Speaker 5: slotted back in. I don't know all the commission, like
- 8:43Speaker 5: when they do their stuff, it's always all very particular.
- 8:46Speaker 6: They all do it differently.
- 8:47Speaker 5: They've always got their like that order is really important
- 8:50Speaker 5: because they've got the officials assigned appropriately. So I don't
- 8:53Speaker 5: know if they'd let us like swing it to the end.
- 8:56Speaker 5: I'd like to think they would. I mean, if they didn't,
- 8:59Speaker 5: it would just be the bouts off. And if it
- 9:02Speaker 5: were pro about the you know, the one guy would
- 9:04Speaker 5: have to get paid, I would think, but this was
- 9:07Speaker 5: an amateur about and thankfully the guy did show up
- 9:10Speaker 5: at the last minute and went in and thought.
- 9:15Speaker 2: You didn't have to find an answer to that question.
- 9:18Speaker 2: I guess this is a good no. I love stuff.
- 9:21Speaker 2: I love behind the scenes stuff, especially for a sport
- 9:23Speaker 2: I love, you know. I usually typically I don't care
- 9:25Speaker 2: about what happens outside of the ring. With the show,
- 9:28Speaker 2: I'm working a lot more and hearing from people involved
- 9:30Speaker 2: is just just so cool. And yeah, maybe I say cool,
- 9:33Speaker 2: it might not be cool to you. Maybe you're like son.
- 9:35Speaker 5: Of a bitch, but no, part of the job, like
- 9:38Speaker 5: sometimes it sucks, like sometimes things go wrong. It actually
- 9:42Speaker 5: does suck, you know, like it's I don't know, like
- 9:45Speaker 5: I've had some tough shows, of course, but I mean, oh,
- 9:50Speaker 5: I just like cringing thinking of a few tough situations.
- 9:53Speaker 5: But you know, most of this stuff, by the end
- 9:56Speaker 5: of the night, you're like, just everything's just insane. So
- 9:59Speaker 5: this is expect did in this game, and it's just crazy.
- 10:03Speaker 5: There's always nutty.
- 10:06Speaker 2: A follow up question on that, and I'll throw out
- 10:08Speaker 2: the jamison to not monopolize the conversation, But what what
- 10:12Speaker 2: makes you love it? What makes you keep going? What
- 10:14Speaker 2: makes it worth it? Is it that you love the sport,
- 10:16Speaker 2: you love working with the fighters, Like what about because
- 10:19Speaker 2: I've had jobs where it's just like it's crazy, But
- 10:21Speaker 2: at the end of the day, I'm like, you know what,
- 10:22Speaker 2: I'm going back tomorrow because this that Like, what's what's
- 10:25Speaker 2: your thing that keeps you going?
- 10:28Speaker 5: Well? I love Okay, first and foremost, I love my lifestyle.
- 10:32Speaker 5: I love that I have the freedom to do whatever
- 10:36Speaker 5: I want, you know, like if I don't want to
- 10:39Speaker 5: get up and work, I don't do that. I mean
- 10:41Speaker 5: I have to, but you know what I mean like flexibility.
- 10:44Speaker 5: I don't have to take my kids with me on
- 10:47Speaker 5: the road, and I get to take time off when
- 10:50Speaker 5: I need to spend time with my kids, and I'm
- 10:52Speaker 5: able to be at all my son's field trips and
- 10:56Speaker 5: all that stuff. So that's those things and just being
- 10:59Speaker 5: at home and again, just that freedom, that's to me,
- 11:03Speaker 5: that is very motivating. And having a lifestyle that I
- 11:07Speaker 5: want to live in terms of, you know, financially, is
- 11:10Speaker 5: very motivating for me. So yes, the money, obviously that
- 11:14Speaker 5: was a very long time coming.
- 11:15Speaker 6: So there were many years where that wasn't the case.
- 11:18Speaker 5: But sure and then honestly, like I love the people
- 11:24Speaker 5: I work with, Like I really enjoy Like I worked
- 11:28Speaker 5: with Bobby Hits last week.
- 11:29Speaker 6: He's like my favorite.
- 11:31Speaker 5: Like he's he's hilarious, he's he's fun, he's he takes
- 11:37Speaker 5: good care of us, likes he's a good dude, and
- 11:40Speaker 5: and he.
- 11:40Speaker 6: Work with these people.
- 11:41Speaker 5: And it's not an orthodox environment, right, like you're not.
- 11:45Speaker 5: I mean, it is a business, right, you have to
- 11:47Speaker 5: treat it like a business. It's just a I can't
- 11:50Speaker 5: I guess I can't explain it very well. I just
- 11:52Speaker 5: really enjoy the people I work with. All the folks
- 11:54Speaker 5: at PBC are amazing, all my clients, you know. I mean,
- 11:56Speaker 5: I just I really enjoyed the people I work with,
- 11:59Speaker 5: and I enjoy working with the fighters, and I enjoy
- 12:01Speaker 5: being around.
- 12:03Speaker 6: People who are They're motivating.
- 12:05Speaker 5: It's motivating to be around pro athletes all the time
- 12:08Speaker 5: because you see the sacrifices they make and it definitely,
- 12:13Speaker 5: like you know, it's inspiring and getting to tell some
- 12:17Speaker 5: of their stories.
- 12:18Speaker 2: True, honor, No, you explained it perfectly. I don't know
- 12:21Speaker 2: what you mean. You don't know how to explained.
- 12:23Speaker 3: I love it.
- 12:24Speaker 2: I love what you're putting down. It all makes sense
- 12:25Speaker 2: and it's great, So Jameson, toss it over to you please.
- 12:29Speaker 3: No, definitely appreciate it.
- 12:31Speaker 4: And what advice would you give someone come into the
- 12:35Speaker 4: promotion game if they have no experience? Like, what advice
- 12:39Speaker 4: would you give someone if they were trying to kind
- 12:41Speaker 4: of follow on your shoes in a way?
- 12:44Speaker 5: I would. I'll tell you what I did, and I
- 12:50Speaker 5: I mean I obviously was working with Jose Benavidez Junior
- 12:53Speaker 5: at the beginning, so it was easy to start to
- 12:55Speaker 5: make contacts because people wanted to talk to him.
- 12:58Speaker 6: So but I also offer to work.
- 13:02Speaker 5: For free for a lot of people for a long
- 13:03Speaker 5: time to make contacts and get my feet wet and
- 13:07Speaker 5: you know, get to know people in the business. So
- 13:10Speaker 5: I was able, I mean because of that, I was
- 13:14Speaker 5: able to like meet people like Cameron Duncan, who mentored
- 13:17Speaker 5: me for years and had you know, thirty five world
- 13:19Speaker 5: champions and guys that are still going to become world champions,
- 13:22Speaker 5: you know, or are there you know, in making contacts
- 13:29Speaker 5: in the PR world where I could call it like
- 13:33Speaker 5: Rachel Charles and say, hey, Rachel, how do I deal
- 13:35Speaker 5: with this kind of situation? You know? And spending that
- 13:37Speaker 5: time and just delivering what I could for people so
- 13:42Speaker 5: that I could learn from them and the situations would
- 13:45Speaker 5: be equitable. Right, So I would say that that was
- 13:51Speaker 5: that's what I did. It worked, I mean, but I
- 13:56Speaker 5: mean we struggled mightily for a long, long, long time.
- 13:59Speaker 5: So I mean, and there were some limitations I had
- 14:05Speaker 5: that I didn't want to travel a lot, and now
- 14:07Speaker 5: I travel a lot. But so I may have, you know,
- 14:11Speaker 5: been able to be more solvent more quickly if I
- 14:14Speaker 5: were in a position I just enjoyed being home with
- 14:17Speaker 5: my family.
- 14:17Speaker 2: So okay, okay, absolutely, So we invited you on back
- 14:25Speaker 2: in March was Women's History month, and I was curious
- 14:27Speaker 2: about it. We didn't ask this back then, but you know,
- 14:29Speaker 2: we were a big fan of women's boxing here. We
- 14:32Speaker 2: talk about it a lot. But there are a lot
- 14:33Speaker 2: of dudes out there who think boxing combat sports are
- 14:36Speaker 2: just very macho, very manly, just for dudes, which ridiculous.
- 14:40Speaker 2: We're calling it out right now. We don't agree with that.
- 14:41Speaker 2: But what's it like for you being a woman in
- 14:43Speaker 2: this world? You know, you ever have people who come
- 14:45Speaker 2: up with the hell are you who? Why are you
- 14:46Speaker 2: talking to me? Where are you in charge? Of anything,
- 14:49Speaker 2: you know, is that your experience.
- 14:50Speaker 5: I mean there's been a couple of times, for sure.
- 14:52Speaker 5: I mean, like, but it's so limited, Like most people
- 14:56Speaker 5: are very respectful, and I mean once it's more of
- 14:59Speaker 5: a familiar anything. Once people see you over and over
- 15:01Speaker 5: and over again, and they they see okay, they're they're
- 15:04Speaker 5: around here working and they're not you know, bothering anybody,
- 15:06Speaker 5: and you know, people are pretty pretty open. I feel
- 15:09Speaker 5: like more doors early on, especially open because of a moment.
- 15:15Speaker 6: But I don't I don't think it's been living for me, thankfully.
- 15:20Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 15:21Speaker 5: I I there's only been like one or two, like
- 15:24Speaker 5: two super inappropriate comments. I mean, I feel for the
- 15:27Speaker 5: girls that are like, you know, really pretty and all
- 15:30Speaker 5: of that.
- 15:31Speaker 6: So it's hard. I think it's hard in a lot.
- 15:35Speaker 5: Of ways to be taken seriously as a woman if
- 15:38Speaker 5: you put effort into your appearance and you look beautiful,
- 15:40Speaker 5: and I think people automatically like shit on you as
- 15:43Speaker 5: a woman, and I think that's that's really garbage. So
- 15:48Speaker 5: I've seen it, you know, I've seen it happen. I mean,
- 15:52Speaker 5: and that's that's disappointing. But I don't know for me
- 15:58Speaker 5: personally though, I haven't really dot with any adversity in
- 16:01Speaker 5: that regard. I've been really lucky.
- 16:02Speaker 3: I guess.
- 16:04Speaker 2: No, that's good, and really remember where we're coming from.
- 16:07Speaker 2: You know, you're living this in this world backstage, I'm
- 16:09Speaker 2: looking at Facebook and Instagram comments, which are if they
- 16:12Speaker 2: made those illegal, I'd be fine with it. I wouldn't
- 16:14Speaker 2: even be sad. So so it's good to know that
- 16:16Speaker 2: that doesn't necessarily go.
- 16:19Speaker 5: People don't bother me. But again, I'm not. I don't
- 16:22Speaker 5: stand out, and I try not to stand out. I
- 16:24Speaker 5: kind of stay behind the scenes as much as possible. Now,
- 16:26Speaker 5: some of the women that are not as behind the scenes,
- 16:28Speaker 5: I think they get a lot of bullshit and deal
- 16:30Speaker 5: with a lot of bullshit, and I think that's unfortunate
- 16:32Speaker 5: because they're trying to do their job and they're trying
- 16:36Speaker 5: to succeed, just like the men are, and the men
- 16:37Speaker 5: don't have to deal with that. So I definitely see
- 16:39Speaker 5: it happening and it sucks, and you know.
- 16:43Speaker 2: Sure, absolutely, especially the sports commentators. I'm assuming you know,
- 16:46Speaker 2: women that out there and guys are like, you know,
- 16:48Speaker 2: bo blah blah blah, shut up idiots.
- 16:51Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, No, people are really respectful towards me. I
- 16:55Speaker 5: think it's just because, I mean, especially here in Arizona.
- 16:59Speaker 5: You know, he knows me from various activities and stuff,
- 17:03Speaker 5: so people are really nice to me.
- 17:06Speaker 2: For now on that type place.
- 17:08Speaker 4: Guy, quick question, you mentioned Arizona. It's almost like a
- 17:11Speaker 4: hitting gym when it comes to the boxing. When people
- 17:13Speaker 4: think about boxing on the West coast, they think of Vegas, La,
- 17:17Speaker 4: even sometimes Noracal, But Arizona's almost like a sleeping giant
- 17:21Speaker 4: that's starting to rise a little bit.
- 17:23Speaker 3: Can you go in about that? Where do you see
- 17:25Speaker 3: that going in the future.
- 17:28Speaker 5: We got some amazing clubs, and just recently, I feel
- 17:31Speaker 5: like there's been a big uptick in the number of
- 17:34Speaker 5: amateur events happening, So I think we're gonna see a
- 17:37Speaker 5: lot more kids coming out of the system here and
- 17:40Speaker 5: getting into tournaments and stuff. We we got new you
- 17:46Speaker 5: know folks overseeing USA boxing in Arizona in the last
- 17:49Speaker 5: couple of years, and I think that that change was
- 17:52Speaker 5: probably a good thing for the state and for boxing
- 17:55Speaker 5: in Arizona because again, you see a lot more kids
- 17:59Speaker 5: are competing you know, locally, nationally, regionally, So I'd love
- 18:03Speaker 5: to see that.
- 18:03Speaker 6: I think that's you know, moving.
- 18:05Speaker 5: Forward, that's just gonna really put us on the map
- 18:08Speaker 5: because we've got some good, good fighters, good gyms, good teams,
- 18:12Speaker 5: good people running things out here, and you know, everybody
- 18:17Speaker 5: is pretty good about working together and putting on these shows.
- 18:20Speaker 5: And I just think there's a lot more opportunity all
- 18:23Speaker 5: of a sudden in the last few years with amateurs,
- 18:25Speaker 5: and I'm so happy for that. And then on the
- 18:29Speaker 5: pro side, you know, you still have a few promoters
- 18:31Speaker 5: here doing pro shows. You know, it's tough here to
- 18:34Speaker 5: do pro events. You know, the ticket sales are hard,
- 18:39Speaker 5: so because you are competing with some of the big
- 18:43Speaker 5: you know sports, all of the big sports. Right in hockey,
- 18:45Speaker 5: we lost hockey, but we have everything else and so
- 18:51Speaker 5: but you know, I think there, I think we're definitely
- 18:53Speaker 5: headed in the right direction. I think you're going to
- 18:54Speaker 5: continue to see good talent. I think people are starting
- 18:57Speaker 5: to come here because there's good coaches here, good gym
- 19:00Speaker 5: and you know, I think I think you'll be seeing
- 19:02Speaker 5: more and more out of here.
- 19:04Speaker 4: Now, what is it going to take for Phoenix, parts
- 19:08Speaker 4: of other parts of Arizona, et cetera, et cetera, to
- 19:10Speaker 4: become one of the bigger markets in boxing going forward.
- 19:18Speaker 5: I mean, I think already we're seeing a lot of
- 19:20Speaker 5: events coming here and they're doing well even when the
- 19:23Speaker 5: guys aren't from here. So I think if these big
- 19:27Speaker 5: promoters continue to come here and continue to showcase some
- 19:30Speaker 5: of the same names and getting the locals behind them
- 19:34Speaker 5: and then giving opportunities to locals on the card, I
- 19:37Speaker 5: think would be instrumental. I'd like to see much more
- 19:40Speaker 5: of that, Like, you know, depending on the promoters, some
- 19:43Speaker 5: put you know, local guys on, some don't, and I
- 19:45Speaker 5: think it's just a nice it's a nice way to
- 19:48Speaker 5: grow these prospects here in Arizona, or do a smaller show,
- 19:53Speaker 5: you know, I don't know.
- 19:55Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 19:55Speaker 5: There's different there's different things you can do, but that's
- 19:57Speaker 5: one thing. And you know, the media, I'd love to
- 20:03Speaker 5: see the media covering the local media covering boxing a
- 20:06Speaker 5: little better. I mean, they do it a little bit,
- 20:08Speaker 5: but it's you know, it's there's a lot here and
- 20:12Speaker 5: they don't cover a lot of it.
- 20:14Speaker 3: So got you Is.
- 20:16Speaker 2: It just that there's not enough of it? Sorry Jamison,
- 20:18Speaker 2: but what's the issue with the local media coverage.
- 20:20Speaker 5: Is just well they don't know, like they don't know
- 20:23Speaker 5: when it's topped, Like you know, you have PR people,
- 20:26Speaker 5: so only one of the local promoters as a PR
- 20:29Speaker 5: person or doesn't anymore because I just left. So it's
- 20:33Speaker 5: partially a matter of just not having the people to
- 20:36Speaker 5: pitch the stories and get word out and develop those relationships.
- 20:41Speaker 2: Go ahead, Jameson, Sorry, I was just gonna ask.
- 20:45Speaker 4: When it comes to the locations, obviously you live in Arizona,
- 20:48Speaker 4: you're very comfortable with that.
- 20:49Speaker 3: Is there another place you like covering events or.
- 20:52Speaker 4: Throwing events at when it comes to promoting and you know,
- 20:56Speaker 4: putting on events and uh, other events are easy work with.
- 20:59Speaker 4: I know someplaces are difficult due to taxes, due to
- 21:02Speaker 4: rules and all that.
- 21:03Speaker 3: Other places that are better or easier, like Arizona is.
- 21:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:11Speaker 5: I mean Illinois is pretty similar in terms of what
- 21:14Speaker 5: they require.
- 21:17Speaker 6: They have one difference.
- 21:18Speaker 5: It's kind of significant that your e exam has to
- 21:20Speaker 5: be by an optalmologist, which complicates getting them.
- 21:22Speaker 6: But that's a whole little thing.
- 21:25Speaker 5: But in general, Illinois kind of similar in how they
- 21:28Speaker 5: approve abouts and everything. So and I've worked there for
- 21:31Speaker 5: like seven years with with Bobby Hits, so I really
- 21:33Speaker 5: enjoy working with those fighters. I've got to know a
- 21:35Speaker 5: lot of them over the years, and.
- 21:37Speaker 6: I like seeing them.
- 21:38Speaker 5: Like one Gara's fighting, you know, he was a Chicago fighter,
- 21:42Speaker 5: is a Chicago fighter. He's gonna fight on a top
- 21:44Speaker 5: break show coming up here, and you know, just stuff
- 21:46Speaker 5: like that. So I enjoy working in Chicago. That was
- 21:50Speaker 5: That's probably my favorite place. And I'm getting to know
- 21:53Speaker 5: some of these places with WFC where we're going back again.
- 21:56Speaker 5: So we're going to Portland again. Just went in February.
- 22:01Speaker 5: We're going in June or June, So I'm going to
- 22:03Speaker 5: see some of the same people on a you know,
- 22:05Speaker 5: probably developed some of those same types of relationships, but
- 22:08Speaker 5: I'm just now kind of getting to know the different
- 22:12Speaker 5: casinos and communities that he works with. But certainly like
- 22:17Speaker 5: the big shows, like working with some of the same people,
- 22:20Speaker 5: like the same teams is awesome. Like I love seeing
- 22:23Speaker 5: you know, every show, every PBC and TGB show, I
- 22:29Speaker 5: see some of the same folks, you know teams, and
- 22:33Speaker 5: you know, even if the fighters are different, the teams
- 22:34Speaker 5: are the same. So that's that's really nice. Just getting
- 22:37Speaker 5: to know everybody cool.
- 22:41Speaker 2: Right, So you introduced us to Trenio show, who was amazing,
- 22:45Speaker 2: and we're really thank you for that. We're so happy
- 22:48Speaker 2: to have him on the on the show. Are there
- 22:49Speaker 2: any other names that you want people to know, Like
- 22:52Speaker 2: keep an eye on this young guy, this guy, even
- 22:53Speaker 2: if they're not Arizona based, Like who do we need
- 22:56Speaker 2: to see the up and rising talent that we're that
- 22:58Speaker 2: we're going to see on pay per view in five years.
- 23:01Speaker 6: I just signed I just signed Brian Miranda.
- 23:05Speaker 5: Uh. He goes by red or Rojo. Uh. He's from
- 23:08Speaker 5: here in Phoenix. He's four oh with four knocked out.
- 23:12Speaker 5: I believe he's gonna fight July fifth in Phoenix as well.
- 23:17Speaker 6: He's a very.
- 23:18Speaker 5: Heavy handed, talented kid. He's kind of short, but he's
- 23:22Speaker 5: he's so strong. I mean, he's so heavy handed. I'll
- 23:25Speaker 5: send you guys his video so you have it. But
- 23:27Speaker 5: he's he's very, very talented and I'm very excited to
- 23:31Speaker 5: see how he does now that he's going to be
- 23:33Speaker 5: active on a regular basis because he was off for
- 23:36Speaker 5: a year or two with his contract. Let's see. That's
- 23:42Speaker 5: that's definitely one to watch. And then you know, Jose
- 23:46Speaker 5: Senior has got a couple of fighters. Daniel Blancos, I
- 23:50Speaker 5: don't know if you are familiar with him, but he's
- 23:52Speaker 5: been fighting on the PBC events and he's he's uh,
- 23:55Speaker 5: he's definitely you know, good to watch at sixty eight.
- 23:59Speaker 5: I believe it's sixty eight. I'm blinking right now. We
- 24:05Speaker 5: have Danny Barrios, who's kind of the main attraction at
- 24:09Speaker 5: Del Soul Boxing.
- 24:10Speaker 6: Uh, he's one twenty two.
- 24:13Speaker 5: He had he was on a The Zone show with
- 24:17Speaker 5: Matt Trum and had had a really good outing but
- 24:21Speaker 5: lost a close decision. And so we're hoping he gets,
- 24:26Speaker 5: you know, an opportunity at the higher level again because
- 24:29Speaker 5: he came out in his last fight and just really
- 24:32Speaker 5: put it on his opponent who was a tough kid.
- 24:35Speaker 5: Best Star was his last name, Alexis bass Star, and
- 24:38Speaker 5: he stopped him, I think in the fourth round, and
- 24:41Speaker 5: it was just a really incredible performance. He just you
- 24:43Speaker 5: can see him improving every fight.
- 24:45Speaker 2: So one L is not going to ruin the careers
- 24:50Speaker 2: at least I don't think so. Maybe some of these
- 24:52Speaker 2: fans act like it, but no, really, yeah, don't worry
- 24:56Speaker 2: about blanking like We'll be honest, really just asking so
- 24:59Speaker 2: that we can say, if I years from now, that
- 25:00Speaker 2: name you heard on the Mixed Company podcast first, right,
- 25:02Speaker 2: and shoving faces. No, No, of course that we really
- 25:06Speaker 2: appreciate that. So speaking out of fighters that you work with,
- 25:09Speaker 2: you know, of course you work with David Benavitez. A
- 25:11Speaker 2: couple of weeks ago the news came out that he
- 25:14Speaker 2: got the WBC belt that won seventy five because he
- 25:17Speaker 2: was turned out for a fight for Dimitribvo. I'm sure
- 25:19Speaker 2: having the belt is like an honor. It's awesome, but
- 25:22Speaker 2: what's the Do you have any sense of the feeling
- 25:24Speaker 2: in the Benavides camp, like, is he bummed about it?
- 25:26Speaker 2: Is a bittersweet? Do you you know? Is there anything
- 25:28Speaker 2: that you can tell us without you know, speaking out
- 25:30Speaker 2: of school.
- 25:32Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't.
- 25:32Speaker 5: I haven't spoken with him on it specifically, but I
- 25:36Speaker 5: know that he's expressed that, you know, of course it's
- 25:41Speaker 5: an honor, and of course he's he's earned that, you know, opportunity,
- 25:45Speaker 5: and you know, he earned that belt in the fight
- 25:49Speaker 5: against Morrell and the fight you know previous to that,
- 25:53Speaker 5: and he's and of course it's not the way he
- 25:58Speaker 5: wanted to get it. And I think that he still
- 26:01Speaker 5: wants to fight people. I don't think that, you know,
- 26:03Speaker 5: I think he wants to prove that he's the best, just.
- 26:07Speaker 6: Like he has.
- 26:09Speaker 5: He really is confident, we are confident that he's the best,
- 26:13Speaker 5: and he just wants the opportunity to prove it. And
- 26:15Speaker 5: these guys just don't want to give him the opportunity.
- 26:18Speaker 6: And I mean, I think I know.
- 26:18Speaker 5: Why, but you know, it's it's a risk, and you know,
- 26:23Speaker 5: he's he's willing to take that risk. And it's really
- 26:26Speaker 5: you know, refreshing as a fan and as his friend,
- 26:30Speaker 5: and you know, I really hope he gets the opportunity
- 26:33Speaker 5: to show the world that he deserves you know, undisputed.
- 26:39Speaker 2: We we Jamison, I agree, we talked about it. You know,
- 26:42Speaker 2: we're we're fans as well, and yeah, I think he
- 26:44Speaker 2: does deserve a chance. If it takes a little bit longer,
- 26:46Speaker 2: whatever it is, my man has earned the chance. So
- 26:48Speaker 2: I definitely am with you on that. Do you do
- 26:51Speaker 2: you get any sense of like anybody else he might
- 26:53Speaker 2: fight in the meantime or is that not your your area?
- 26:56Speaker 2: Do you just kind of like promote whatever are.
- 26:59Speaker 5: Yeah, that's sorry, not my above my pay grade.
- 27:05Speaker 2: Yeah, that's not your Bailey wick as the as as
- 27:08Speaker 2: College of US College Boys say, No, we appreciate the inside.
- 27:11Speaker 2: Like I said, love behind the scenes stuff, James, and
- 27:14Speaker 2: I got something else, Jamison, you want to.
- 27:16Speaker 4: Jump in or you get yes, I do so. You
- 27:20Speaker 4: mentioned you also put on MMA events you as well.
- 27:24Speaker 4: Is there any distinct differences between the boxing events and
- 27:27Speaker 4: the MMA events by Champ? Just out of curiosity, certainly.
- 27:32Speaker 5: I don't know what I'm doing when it comes to events,
- 27:37Speaker 5: Like I'm still kind of getting the hang of like
- 27:40Speaker 5: the different like because there's when you do an MMA show,
- 27:43Speaker 5: it's not often just MMA. It's way time kickboxing too,
- 27:47Speaker 5: So I'm always like, okay, the weight classes are a
- 27:49Speaker 5: little different, you know, the rounds are three two minutes
- 27:53Speaker 5: or three three minute and it could be different. It
- 27:54Speaker 5: could be five minutes. Like I don't really I haven't
- 27:57Speaker 5: gotten all that down yet. It's just really I feel
- 27:59Speaker 5: so adequate because of my knowledge of boxing is so
- 28:02Speaker 5: thorough in that regard, and then an MMA I'm just
- 28:04Speaker 5: like an idiot. Same with like the gloves, I'm like, okay,
- 28:08Speaker 5: do they need shin guards?
- 28:09Speaker 6: Don't they need you know?
- 28:10Speaker 5: So it's just kind of getting that stuff. I'm still
- 28:13Speaker 5: working on it. The fighters and the teens are really
- 28:15Speaker 5: different than boxing.
- 28:17Speaker 6: I don't know how I wish I could give you
- 28:20Speaker 6: some specifics.
- 28:22Speaker 5: I feel like MMA fighters, like there's certain expectations that
- 28:28Speaker 5: boxers have out of an event, and certain expectations and
- 28:31Speaker 5: MMA fighters have at an event. Like an MA fighter
- 28:34Speaker 5: wouldn't take it for granted that they'd have a hotel room,
- 28:37Speaker 5: whereas a boxer would. So there's some differences like that
- 28:40Speaker 5: that I'm learning, you know, like, of course they're going
- 28:43Speaker 5: to want a hotel because I'm used to boxing, you know,
- 28:45Speaker 5: and then they're not expecting it because it's not part
- 28:47Speaker 5: of the culture of MMA. So there's a lot of
- 28:51Speaker 5: little things like that that I'm still kind of getting
- 28:53Speaker 5: the hang of. The people are a little different.
- 28:55Speaker 6: Like they're.
- 28:58Speaker 5: Like, going to get medicals is super easy to get
- 29:01Speaker 5: them to do.
- 29:01Speaker 6: I don't know why.
- 29:02Speaker 5: It's it's much easier than boxing really same tests. It's
- 29:07Speaker 5: just easy, Like you just like go get these tests
- 29:09Speaker 5: and then go do them, and they're like, you just
- 29:11Speaker 5: gave them to me.
- 29:12Speaker 6: You just did them and gave them to me. I
- 29:13Speaker 6: didn't have to harass you.
- 29:16Speaker 2: From the fighter. So you mean not like in to
- 29:18Speaker 2: the doctor. Okay, interesting?
- 29:20Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, So.
- 29:23Speaker 5: In some of the sanctioning's quite a bit different, you know,
- 29:26Speaker 5: because they use like sanctioning organizations that may or may
- 29:29Speaker 5: not be a state commission. So I'm used to dealing
- 29:31Speaker 5: with a little more regulated process, but they're just as stringdent.
- 29:34Speaker 6: It's just different. So yeah, it's just different kind of
- 29:39Speaker 6: everywhere to go.
- 29:41Speaker 2: And what about you as a as a viewer, are
- 29:44Speaker 2: you a fan of MMA? There's something that you would watch?
- 29:47Speaker 2: Forget about like you know, working with them, you know,
- 29:49Speaker 2: it's not really your thing.
- 29:51Speaker 5: I'm not going to watch it unless i'm working almost
- 29:53Speaker 5: for sure, Like like Chris Cydeborg I work with her occasionally,
- 29:57Speaker 5: like I would watch her fight because I know her right,
- 30:01Speaker 5: But in general, I don't have any desire to watch it.
- 30:04Speaker 5: I watch it when i'm working and I'm starting to
- 30:07Speaker 5: you know, I certainly appreciate it. I certainly appreciate the
- 30:10Speaker 5: athleticism and the fact that they have to train and
- 30:13Speaker 5: be proficient in all these different disciplines and they take
- 30:16Speaker 5: a lot of abuse to their bodies and training and competing.
- 30:20Speaker 6: So much respect for those guys.
- 30:22Speaker 5: It's just not a sport that I enjoy watching in
- 30:25Speaker 5: the same way that I enjoy boxing.
- 30:27Speaker 2: That's so interesting because I feel the exact same way.
- 30:29Speaker 2: I don't know what it is. I feel like maybe
- 30:31Speaker 2: I should go back to grad school so I could
- 30:32Speaker 2: keep ignoring my student loans and do some kind of
- 30:34Speaker 2: research on the difference between the mindset of a boxing
- 30:38Speaker 2: fan and an m A fan. Some people just say, like,
- 30:40Speaker 2: I like fights and whatever. That's cool, that's awesome, But
- 30:43Speaker 2: I don't know. There's Jamison and I we don't watch
- 30:45Speaker 2: We've talked about how we don't watch MMA, and I
- 30:47Speaker 2: can't tell you what it is. I will say part
- 30:49Speaker 2: of me is jealousy because I've taken boxing lessons, but
- 30:51Speaker 2: I'm not flexible, so I can't kick. So I'm like,
- 30:54Speaker 2: damn you, I hate that they can kick it. I
- 30:55Speaker 2: can't do that for shit.
- 30:56Speaker 5: So there's that there's a big time crossover with boxing
- 31:00Speaker 5: fans and you know pro wrestling fans too, right, And
- 31:06Speaker 5: I don't know if that's true for MMA fans too.
- 31:10Speaker 2: That's yeah, it's it's such a phenomenon. Maybe we'll do
- 31:12Speaker 2: like a whole show where we just discuss and talk
- 31:14Speaker 2: to MMA fans and go out there and get interviews.
- 31:16Speaker 2: I don't know. It's something something I've been thinking about
- 31:18Speaker 2: for like years now. Is why you if I'm out
- 31:21Speaker 2: at a bar and it's playing like great, I'll watch it,
- 31:23Speaker 2: but I'm not even invested. I don't. I don't feel
- 31:26Speaker 2: it in my heart, like when I'm watching boxers, you
- 31:28Speaker 2: know what I mean.
- 31:29Speaker 5: Yeah, Like, I could watch any boxing and find something
- 31:32Speaker 5: to annoy about it. But I'll enjoy an MMA fight
- 31:35Speaker 5: if I know the people fighting. So I kind of
- 31:38Speaker 5: enjoy our fights with WFC. But I'm okay to sit
- 31:40Speaker 5: out and do tickets as well. I don't get sad
- 31:43Speaker 5: about missing the fights.
- 31:44Speaker 2: That's so interesting. Yeah, well we'll have to explore that
- 31:47Speaker 2: some more, but okay, cool pivoting a little bit. So
- 31:51Speaker 2: you mentioned you know you have kids, You're a family woman.
- 31:53Speaker 5: You know.
- 31:53Speaker 2: I think boxing is the coolest thing in the world,
- 31:56Speaker 2: and if I had a relative or somebody that was
- 31:58Speaker 2: involved in the boxing world, I'd be thrilled. But also,
- 32:01Speaker 2: we know kids never think their parents are cool. I
- 32:03Speaker 2: was curious, like, your kids think that you're awesome because
- 32:06Speaker 2: you work in comment sports that they're like, yeah, whatever,
- 32:08Speaker 2: my mom does their you know, laid stuff whatever, not
- 32:10Speaker 2: at all.
- 32:11Speaker 6: They're not. No, I don't think that's impressive to them
- 32:14Speaker 6: at all.
- 32:14Speaker 5: They'd probably be impressed if I had a regular job
- 32:16Speaker 5: because I'd be like, you know, we're stable, but uh yeah, no,
- 32:19Speaker 5: they're and and they've all worked in the business from
- 32:24Speaker 5: one way or another. So including Nikola, I hadn't My
- 32:29Speaker 5: printer doesn't doesn't have the little catcher like for the
- 32:33Speaker 5: pages when they come out, and when I'm printing on
- 32:36Speaker 5: card stock, it falls out, So I have them stand
- 32:39Speaker 5: over there when I'm doing tickets and hold the card
- 32:40Speaker 5: stock and do stuff on my computer. So every kid
- 32:44Speaker 5: has worked in the business, so they're probably kind of
- 32:46Speaker 5: over it. But you know, they're great kids, and they
- 32:50Speaker 5: you know, they they are good with whatever I'm doing.
- 32:55Speaker 5: But no, they're not like, oh cool, not at all.
- 32:58Speaker 2: They're like, oh, mom, take me to the fights so
- 33:00Speaker 2: I can see it, like they're just you know, that's
- 33:02Speaker 2: not it's unlike quiet.
- 33:06Speaker 5: Like my son came on his own with his friend's
- 33:08Speaker 5: kind of the same del soul. I saw you at
- 33:11Speaker 5: am I allowed to say that, Yeah, absolutely absolutely. He
- 33:18Speaker 5: came to that show and that was like the first
- 33:19Speaker 5: show he'd been in since he was like fourteen. When
- 33:23Speaker 5: I used to have them working with me. So my
- 33:26Speaker 5: one daughter would go with me a little more often,
- 33:28Speaker 5: like just she just enjoyed going, but she lives in Greece,
- 33:31Speaker 5: so I never did to see her.
- 33:34Speaker 2: That's pretty cool, though, I gotta I gotta say, Uh,
- 33:38Speaker 2: if you had to choose between going to your mom
- 33:40Speaker 2: to really cool events or living in Greece, I know
- 33:41Speaker 2: which one I take.
- 33:43Speaker 6: But yeah, exactly, I'm kidding, right.
- 33:47Speaker 2: So, speaking of the Del Soul events, you know, like
- 33:49Speaker 2: we said, it's a brawl in the bose. I think
- 33:52Speaker 2: you do four times a year, is that correct? M?
- 33:55Speaker 2: Four times or so? Under Decil promotions? Do you ever
- 33:58Speaker 2: have women boxing? You know, I've I've been to one
- 34:00Speaker 2: and I've seen the adverts. It seems to be a
- 34:02Speaker 2: lot of men. Do you women fighters in these?
- 34:04Speaker 5: Uh?
- 34:05Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 34:05Speaker 5: Alas at Valerio, Yeah, Alisa at Valerio is signed with
- 34:08Speaker 5: Dulsel and she's I think she's like one hundred and
- 34:11Speaker 5: five or a hundred eight pounds maybe maybe maybe one twelve.
- 34:16Speaker 5: I'm not really sure off him, but she's lovely. She's
- 34:19Speaker 5: I did her pro debut, or did a lot of
- 34:20Speaker 5: pr for her pro debut. She's nineteen and she's actually
- 34:24Speaker 5: a carpenter and she works like on a construction site
- 34:27Speaker 5: and controls. He's like super expensive robots and she's like
- 34:30Speaker 5: in the Wall Street Journal for this and yeah, super cool.
- 34:34Speaker 5: And then she's also in school for construction man and
- 34:37Speaker 5: then she's a pro boxer, so really cool. You know,
- 34:41Speaker 5: she's really awesome. She's a great interview If you ever
- 34:43Speaker 5: want to talk to her too, Oh.
- 34:45Speaker 2: We would love to absolutely. Yeah cool. So I got
- 34:48Speaker 2: one more Jamison, anything else you want to jump on?
- 34:52Speaker 3: I am good. She's been amazing.
- 34:54Speaker 2: Yeah, So last thing before we let you go. You're
- 34:56Speaker 2: very busy woman. What about some young guy? It was like,
- 35:00Speaker 2: you know, eighteen nineteen, maybe younger fifteen, but who wants
- 35:03Speaker 2: to be a professional fighter? On your side of it
- 35:06Speaker 2: is someone that you know seeing people become professionals, Like,
- 35:09Speaker 2: what advice would you give that they want to see
- 35:11Speaker 2: themselves on a pay per view someday on HBO or.
- 35:14Speaker 5: If that's what you want to do, you need to
- 35:16Speaker 5: just make sure you dedicate yourself to it fully.
- 35:18Speaker 6: You can't. You can't mess around.
- 35:22Speaker 5: So this is life and death, Like you could literally
- 35:25Speaker 5: die if you're not properly prepared. So if you love
- 35:27Speaker 5: your mom and you love your sisters and your brothers
- 35:31Speaker 5: and your friends, don't get into it unless you're willing
- 35:35Speaker 5: to dedicate yourself properly, both on the dieting and training end,
- 35:40Speaker 5: because if you don't dedicate yourself properly, you could get
- 35:42Speaker 5: hurt and nobody else that.
- 35:44Speaker 6: So and protect yourself at all times inside and outside
- 35:48Speaker 6: the way.
- 35:50Speaker 2: Absolutely. Now that is a fabulous answer. We can't thank
- 35:54Speaker 2: you enough for doing this for us. Thank you for
- 35:55Speaker 2: not hating us, for pitting me for me.
- 36:00Speaker 6: Like, couldn't get myself together over multiple days.
- 36:03Speaker 5: So actually my son like had an allergic reaction and
- 36:06Speaker 5: broke out in hives and we had to take into
- 36:08Speaker 5: urgent care today.
- 36:09Speaker 6: And I'm like, these guys are gonna kill me if
- 36:10Speaker 6: you don't get back in time.
- 36:14Speaker 3: No.
- 36:15Speaker 2: Also, is this fair to say you sound like you
- 36:16Speaker 2: live a crazy life. I believe your job your life
- 36:19Speaker 2: to see that.
- 36:21Speaker 6: It's a little mona.
- 36:22Speaker 3: Okay, so.
- 36:24Speaker 2: But hey, you know what, you know what at least
