- 5:07[SPEAKER_07]: A lot of things going on, I was just watching the news here.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_07]: uh... it's amazing all those buildings that are outside and because it's at the center of the media universe it is big news but i kind of interesting this watching anyway uh... president's over in turkey and on is it anchor on car or on car or wherever it is i don't have to know i'm not a real educated person so uh... see what he has to say over there and then
- 5:42[SPEAKER_07]: just walked in the building you know it's looking out in the right little area outside the A.M. studio number three of these boxed up robotic lawnmowers, husk of errors, apparently it's something we got going with the I don't know what it is but I asked Sandy about she said they're for sale and boy the prices were great I don't know what the deal is I think it's part of one of this
- 6:11[SPEAKER_07]: for this or that things the station has I I don't know I'm not on the inner circle but if you want to look into one of those things this is a great opportunity go see Sandy at the front desk I was thinking of picking one up for the price there oh my god um I don't even know what I do with it sometimes you're by things you don't know what you're gonna do with you know you just want to I got one of those oh that's
- 6:39[SPEAKER_07]: 755-1240 the phone number if it'd like to give us a call to be on the show of shows today the hotline people are still mumbling over that yesterday's call from the angry man oh my god it was it was something it was the quintessential call you know that guy really crystallizes the
- 7:07[SPEAKER_07]: I love these people, and they write comments into my blog because they have nowhere else that people will hear them.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_07]: But, oh, that's terrible what he said.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_07]: Gramps shouldn't put him up.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_07]: Don't listen.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_07]: You know, you do have that option.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_07]: I want everybody to listen.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_07]: I appreciate and love our listeners, but if it's really that upsetting to you, my God, don't torment yourself anymore.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_07]: Just because other stations don't provide that opportunity.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_07]: Just because we're the only ones who do it.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_07]: make us bad people yeah so what else is going on today not a lot um kind of a slow morning or my way last night was pretty good but the morning was kind of slow I mean we had a couple of homeless people stopped in one to use the ATM one got a
- 8:08[SPEAKER_07]: So, what else we got, uh... Hmm... What a news, Chuck.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_15]: He's see what he's got.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_07]: Oh, boy.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_07]: You know that, uh... Charlie Kirk, preliminary hearing, I just can't get into that foxloves at whatever.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_07]: Well, here's our thing, interesting thing.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_07]: An illegally parked vehicle was modified with wires and displayed a boom note.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_07]: We're here in Watertown, yeah.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_07]: There's one manicuse of stealing elevator panel from New Homeless Facility on Main Avenue.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_07]: It's begun.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_07]: Elevator panel, what do they mean?
- 9:03[SPEAKER_09]: Were the buttons are?
- 9:12[SPEAKER_07]: Well, there's a 38-year-old, what did he do?
- 9:17[SPEAKER_07]: Operated in a motor vehicle on a suspended registration, that's no big deal.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_07]: And what else did I go on now?
- 9:30[SPEAKER_07]: Let's see, there's another guy resisting a race.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_07]: Oh, second degree, placing a false barber has it as substance.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, well, I don't know what he was doing.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_07]: he's at something.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_07]: He modified his vehicle so the wires which were not originally installed resemble trip wires for about the defendant intended to turn officers and other bystanders from touching the vehicle.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_09]: That's crazy.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_09]: That's absolutely crazy.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_07]: What is wrong with people?
- 10:09[SPEAKER_07]: There's another guy who damaged the vehicle and a house window, oh my god, these people.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_07]: There's somebody accused of striking a 30-year-old woman in her chest with a closed fist, at 230 in the morning, on West Main Street.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_07]: You shouldn't do that.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_07]: Criminal possession of a controlled substance?
- 10:31[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, I'm just reading the blotter.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_07]: Well, this is interesting, though.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_07]: 38-year-old homeless, man.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_07]: Everybody's homeless on the police plotter.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_07]: Have you not just like the man said yesterday.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_07]: He's accused of stealing an elevator cover panel.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_07]: He removed it from the wall and left the... What is the cover panel?
- 10:55[SPEAKER_07]: I'm not quite sure.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_07]: I've had something to do it.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_07]: Why?
- 11:00[SPEAKER_07]: Why do they do this stuff?
- 11:07[SPEAKER_07]: Oh my god, these people.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_07]: There's a guy accused of stealing a water bottle that kidney drugs was worth $3.99, why are the, what the hell kind of water bottle is worth $34?
- 11:29[SPEAKER_08]: That's the crime.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_07]: Oh my god.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_07]: There's a guy who entered it and remained in a shed on property he doesn't own.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_07]: Really?
- 11:44[SPEAKER_07]: Really?
- 11:46[SPEAKER_07]: Huh.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_07]: Somebody just texted me to hear about the Pfizer building, buckling in New York and people being, yes, of course I did, I watched the news all the time.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_07]: Uh, he did have an address though.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_07]: There you go.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_07]: We should just pick one address that homeless people can give so it looks better on the border.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_07]: Could have to do there on the air.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_08]: Yes.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_08]: A quick prediction for you.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_08]: See someone getting it and really hurt bad in the city of water town out of any bite, a major lawsuit.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_08]: And we'll see the council members backtrack and start changing things.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_08]: It's inevitable.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_07]: Well, they passed their e-bike law last night, which is fine.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_07]: But I had an idea that I thought it was brilliant.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_07]: Rather than put these signs up, make some stencils and paint on a sidewalk all around town,
- 13:05[SPEAKER_07]: e-bikes, you know, whatever, that might help spread awareness.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_07]: I don't think the idea of finding someone 150 dollars is going to, then ain't going to, I'm out to a bucket of warm spit, I'll tell you.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_08]: No, but I think that would prevent them, especially someone like me that's honest, and if they disobeyed, I would think twice about doing it again.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_07]: You know, if you're honest, responsible,
- 13:31[SPEAKER_07]: you're not going to cause a hazard.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_07]: But if you're one of these people race and down a sidewalk at 40 miles an hour, yeah, I mean, you don't care.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_07]: You don't care about society's laws.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_07]: You don't care about cops or city council or judges or anything else.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_08]: No, yeah, I see that.
- 13:46[SPEAKER_08]: And actually one day on the square, I was standing there raining front of Keybank by the paddock arcade in some girl comes flying down on an e-bike.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_08]: And all you hear is get out of the way, get out of the way, no breaks.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_08]: mm-hmm and it's my girlfriend moved to ahead of me before I did so she got on the way I didn't know which way she was gonna go around me so I waited to the back very less minutes before I even made an attempt to jump right or left because she was just flying mm-hmm that's someone with no breaks on the bike and you could clearly tell they were a teenager there you go okay well thank you yep by now yeah a lot of people are also
- 14:33[SPEAKER_07]: Well, goodness gracious, they're worried about the soccer team.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_07]: They lost four to one, the Belgium.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_07]: Everybody was blaming Trump, blaming Trump because he tried to intercede on that suspension issue.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, the liberal networks were saying, the world was an outrage, so I don't care what the world thinks.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_07]: The guy shouldn't have been suspended.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_07]: Now, you know, the US still lost.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_07]: Who knows the bells?
- 15:03[SPEAKER_07]: I'm not a, I don't mind them for her.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_07]: I do in the trunk dance afterwards.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_07]: Well, they were chanting overturning this.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_07]: I thought that's funny really.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_07]: Now the other thing that's interesting.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_07]: The other day.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_07]: I had a customer, he's in his thirties, but he wasn't sure, I didn't know, so I passed for ID because you know, they might have one of their silly stings going on or something like that.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_07]: So we always prove everybody, but anyway, um, some, he was of age, a main driver's license to give him back on his drink on that, and I say, you know, I see you're from Maine, what do you think of this Graham Platner guy?
- 15:44[SPEAKER_07]: You know, when he said, I don't know, I do what you're talking about.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_07]: And I mean, that is so typical, probably even in Maine, most people don't follow it up.
- 15:53[SPEAKER_07]: But we do, and this guy running for US Senate, CNN and Politico suddenly come out with a story of this lady who claims five years ago, he was drunk, came to her house, did the dirty weather.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_07]: She says,
- 16:13[SPEAKER_07]: by the letter of law, I was raped or something end, but she says all my friends would vote for him anyway.
- 16:19[SPEAKER_07]: Anyway, this woman, given also it's a credibility and now they're trying to push platinum out of the race against Susan Collins because the main Senate seat was the, so the lynch band of the Democrats taking over the Senate, they needed to win that one.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_07]: You know, before this article came out this week, they were all for a planer.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_07]: He was great, man of the people.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_07]: I say he earned the nomination.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_07]: He won the primary was 72% and it was already a lot of dirt out on him.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_07]: He already said he drank too much.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_07]: He said he had PTSD.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, he admitted everything.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_07]: And he said he had turned his life around his new wife.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_07]: That's great.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_07]: This idea that you have to...
- 17:07[SPEAKER_07]: It's like in water town where it's like, oh, you know, 20 years ago, he got a DWI or something.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_07]: They say that stuff.
- 17:13[SPEAKER_07]: It's like, so what?
- 17:15[SPEAKER_07]: They deal.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_07]: And as far as platinum, let him run, I think they're going to push him out though.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_07]: They'll have to give him a job.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_07]: They'll have to give him something.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_07]: Money in a paper bag, something.
- 17:32[SPEAKER_07]: I don't matter.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_07]: What do you think?
- 17:39[SPEAKER_07]: Or don't you know, somebody out there saying, where's Maine?
- 17:43[SPEAKER_07]: What's Maine?
- 17:46[SPEAKER_07]: All right.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_07]: 785 for all four of you are from a number if you'd like to give us a call.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_07]: And we'll put you on the air, talk about whatever you want, within the balance of good taste, of course.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_07]: I don't know, I've got, uh, hmm, well,
- 18:09[SPEAKER_07]: See too much.
- 18:10[SPEAKER_14]: No.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_07]: The thing about the main Senate race, it's not about who cares about, who cares about how drunk he was.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_07]: That's the means to controlling the Senate.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_07]: So that Trucky could be the majority leader, although the dump is asked first the year if they have to.
- 18:36[SPEAKER_07]: So, I don't know.
- 18:36[SPEAKER_07]: I don't know what's going on in Maine, but probably there's no interest to people here in Watertown.
- 18:43[UNKNOWN]: Yep.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_07]: And, you know, local races aren't really, oh, I have to laugh at this.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_07]: Gotta get rid of this, Governor Hockel down in the island, right in the heart of a Blake men country, stalking the media, telling how much better a candidate, at least the
- 19:06[SPEAKER_07]: uh... just robbing it in the fact that statements twenty points behind it's just sad and our local republicans you know what do they say about it nothing now there's um... i heard on this congressional race don't know if it's true
- 19:32[SPEAKER_07]: Remember after Concentino won everybody kind of folded in behind him with perfunctory announces of endorsement I heard there was one assemblyman up from up here who refuses to endorse him mm-hmm and that might be a good news story for somebody out there
- 19:54[SPEAKER_07]: If there is a Fred Dicker in the room, there's no Fred Dicker in the room.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_07]: You know, I, I was writing this thing on my blog saying, I'm, I'm the Fred Dicker of the North Country.
- 20:02[SPEAKER_07]: And he's people are writing back to, well, you know, he's got a girlfriend who lives with and you don't.
- 20:06[SPEAKER_07]: And what's that got to do with being the Fred Dicker of the North Country?
- 20:11[SPEAKER_07]: Um, which I am, of course.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_07]: Um, only want to really, that and, you know, he could put Ross Finley in there, too.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, so anyway, there's one person who wanted to do it and why?
- 20:30[SPEAKER_07]: What's the reason for not endorsing Constantinople?
- 20:33[SPEAKER_03]: We don't know.
- 20:35[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah.
- 20:37[SPEAKER_07]: 755, 1240, the phone number, if you'd like to give us a call?
- 20:41[SPEAKER_07]: Uh, yeah, let's see.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_07]: I want to do a break.

- 24:27[SPEAKER_07]: Apparently we're selling them.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_07]: So... Maybe...
- 24:33[SPEAKER_10]: Where do we sell that stuff?
- 24:38[SPEAKER_07]: But the prices were great, so talk to Sandy about it, not me.
- 24:43[SPEAKER_07]: It was one.
- 24:45[SPEAKER_07]: Toddler dies after being left unattended in a hot car by a forgetful babysitter.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_07]: Oh, I just forgot.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_07]: What do you do with a case like that?
- 24:55[SPEAKER_07]: Tragedy, two-year-old dad left alone in the car and 100-degree plus temperatures
- 25:05[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, what do you do?
- 25:07[SPEAKER_07]: It's not really murder.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_07]: What could to do to lock the person up?
- 25:12[SPEAKER_07]: Maybe they were careless.
- 25:12[SPEAKER_07]: Maybe they were forgetful.
- 25:13[SPEAKER_07]: It's just stupid.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_07]: A lot of people in jail for being stupid.
- 25:22[SPEAKER_07]: You know, whenever they say, oh, we're going to try it.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_07]: What for?
- 25:25[SPEAKER_07]: Was a mistake.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_07]: Unfortunate.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_07]: Terrible.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_07]: But what do you do?
- 25:32[SPEAKER_07]: What good is locking you up?
- 25:36[SPEAKER_07]: I don't know.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_07]: Some people will say that's the way to do it, I don't know.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_07]: 755, 1240, the phone number.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_07]: I'd like to get on the air.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_07]: I see Toyota's going to invest $3.6 billion building a plant in Texas.
- 25:53[SPEAKER_07]: You don't notice whenever anybody comes back to America, they never build it in New York.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_07]: in this county.
- 26:09[SPEAKER_07]: In terms of industrial capacity, whatever we have, may survive.
- 26:13[SPEAKER_07]: There's still a couple of paper plants left and some other things clinging, but there will never be anything industrial built here again.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_10]: It's just the way it is.
- 26:37[SPEAKER_07]: Oh, we got a call.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_07]: But after dinner on the air.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_11]: Yeah, I wrote this in there.
- 26:41[SPEAKER_07]: Hey, what's up?
- 26:43[SPEAKER_11]: Hey.
- 26:45[SPEAKER_11]: I just have a electric scooter.
- 26:48[SPEAKER_11]: This is maybe a thick lift.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_11]: Maybe 15 years ago.
- 26:52[SPEAKER_11]: And I called the police to say about supposed to drive in the road.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_11]: And it was a little thing.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_11]: And there were two wheels.
- 27:01[SPEAKER_11]: And back then, they said it was,
- 27:04[SPEAKER_11]: the same rules as the handicaps quarter which some of them guys are a bit news and two mm-hmm they have done it to me though you drive on the sidewalk and uh... yeah i don't know what this new law is in the city i really don't i mean uh... i was followed by i had picked it out i could get a three wheeler because i don't trust myself out of two wheeler anymore uh...
- 27:34[SPEAKER_11]: a street wheel he'd like and it was to make you such a state like a couple thousand dollars this was about two hundred dollars I could have got it but I'm going to wait to think settled down and find out what exactly do I need a how to I don't want to have the
- 28:03[SPEAKER_11]: Yeah, I want to wait until things settle down with this uh... e-bike thing I don't know what the law is, I don't know what they're, right?
- 28:12[SPEAKER_07]: I agree, I, they shouldn't be on sidewalks, going 30, 40 miles an hour, but I really don't know what's going on, I mean Yeah, and get a few bad apples, uh, square with home better, for people that that are responsible Uh, yeah
- 28:30[SPEAKER_11]: But I want to hold off, I've got myself a stream where he'd like to settle down at least.
- 28:36[SPEAKER_07]: OK. All right.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_07]: Well, thank you.
- 28:39[SPEAKER_11]: Yeah, we did.
- 28:39[SPEAKER_07]: I know.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_07]: All right, 75, 5, 12, 4.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_07]: I just saw it just flashed up on newsjockey.
- 28:44[SPEAKER_07]: And this is one of these stories that newsjockey knows its news, because he has a feel for the community.
- 28:49[SPEAKER_07]: So do I. I don't think it'll make much in terms of mainstream media.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_07]: Um, yeah, happened on July 3rd, and according to his old bit, known primarily as the guitarist, his musical journey began at a young age, learning the piano from his classically trained pianist mother, who was Claudine, well,
- 29:22[SPEAKER_07]: In school, it became a multi-instrumental served with served well as a bandleader and teacher for his career during high school, adformed a band with friends, the tempests, and later known as Ed Wall and the Nomads, okay, it's connecting with some people in the audience.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_07]: The band would perform at school dances and other events in and around the North Country, the Nomads amassed a regional following, um,
- 29:51[SPEAKER_07]: leading to the recording in release of Singles through RCA Columbia and other labels, they became popular.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_07]: That momentum created the opportunity to record a full-length album on ABC Records.
- 30:04[SPEAKER_07]: That album was released in 1969, added as bandwidth continued to inspire North Country musicians long after his move from water town to the capital region in the late 70s.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_07]: For moon dance, isn't it the connection there?
- 30:25[SPEAKER_07]: But this is a big loss for anybody who remembers the good old days when there was live music.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_07]: Ed Wolin and Omaids, yes.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, let's see, looking at this.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, his sister Claudia.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_07]: who was also in some of his albums.
- 30:52[SPEAKER_07]: That's a big loss.
- 30:55[SPEAKER_07]: Granity was an act of now, and you look at the people and I would dig kissle past the other day, and so many others who were great stars here in the North Country in their way, Jim Hood a few years ago and all of that.
- 31:09[SPEAKER_07]: A lot of people forget, I don't know.
- 31:13[SPEAKER_07]: And I don't think you're like average, person in the media now would understand that,
- 31:21[SPEAKER_07]: but uh... i would think over the times they must have pretty good uh... more good presence for uh... for ed and all of that so anyway condolences regrets a loss uh... and someone is did a lot for up the arts culture here in the north country okay all right now

- 36:33[SPEAKER_07]: We live in a news desert.
- 36:38[SPEAKER_07]: Things that break just, there is no breaking news up here.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah.
- 36:47[SPEAKER_07]: Now in the old days, when receiving news of something like the passing of Ed, whoa, he'd try to go out and get some interviews.

- 38:03[SPEAKER_07]: I'm not looking to promote various psychological problems, so no, no, we don't.
- 38:11[SPEAKER_07]: I don't even know words of it.
- 38:12[SPEAKER_07]: Listen, in this day and age, trying to get a hold of product, I mean, the way the whole industry is now, it's hard to, this liquor cartel is just not a control.
- 38:22[SPEAKER_07]: I wonder how the weed cartel is.
- 38:25[SPEAKER_07]: But after noon, you're on the air.
- 38:27[SPEAKER_13]: Yeah, because I assume, yes.
- 38:29[SPEAKER_13]: Yeah, you're a station in a position to fill that void, I mean you, you touch yourself as the news and talk authority of the North country or whatever.
- 38:38[SPEAKER_07]: Or we'd just say that.
- 38:40[SPEAKER_13]: Well, I know, you're quick to criticize the other ones, but you guys are the same way.
- 38:45[SPEAKER_07]: I mean, if I, I set it right up, I said, wait a minute.
- 38:49[SPEAKER_07]: Wait a minute, I use the words we all suck.
- 38:52[SPEAKER_07]: We includes me.
- 38:57[SPEAKER_07]: I don't, I'm picking on him down there on Arcade Street.
- 39:00[SPEAKER_13]: I want the last one to go on, and you get news.
- 39:03[SPEAKER_13]: Kevin Shanks.
- 39:06[SPEAKER_07]: He's the last legitimate newsman here in the North Country.
- 39:09[SPEAKER_13]: Why, he went on the circus and did the same thing there, right?
- 39:12[SPEAKER_07]: Now, you know, there's once in print, like Larry Cole was good, some others.
- 39:16[SPEAKER_13]: Yeah, oh yeah, some of the older ones, yeah.
- 39:21[SPEAKER_13]: Peter Barber was a photojournalist one of the best I mean one of the best yeah and so was uh which is the worst of the New York Post.
- 39:32[SPEAKER_07]: I don't know.
- 39:34[SPEAKER_13]: Oh God, you should cover that town of water town stuff yeah, I think it's okay well.
- 39:40[SPEAKER_13]: But yeah, but it's easy, it's easy to criticize but then on the same token you know
- 39:50[SPEAKER_07]: Well, when you talk about it, I'm observing a human or a condition in society.
- 39:57[SPEAKER_07]: I'm saying, we live in a news desert, and I'm as bad as everybody else.
- 40:04[SPEAKER_13]: But, it's not the world yet as long as you're willing to admit it.
- 40:08[SPEAKER_13]: That's the thing.
- 40:10[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, but I'm not really actively in.
- 40:13[SPEAKER_13]: Where is a solution to it?
- 40:14[SPEAKER_13]: There is a solution to it.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_07]: No, there isn't.
- 40:20[SPEAKER_13]: rings in by in your hands and do it.
- 40:23[SPEAKER_13]: You know, you know, we try we try to bring things with the airtime every day just every day you have an hours with the airtime.
- 40:30[SPEAKER_07]: I try to bring things for it.
- 40:32[SPEAKER_07]: I do it all the time.
- 40:33[SPEAKER_07]: I bring things forward that are noteworthy and certainly I can't count the number of times I've called John Moore or somebody like that and saying, did you know about this?
- 40:45[SPEAKER_07]: And
- 40:46[SPEAKER_07]: You know, I try to do what I can, but it's a dying art.
- 40:50[SPEAKER_07]: I mean, no, the public, you maybe you heard the beginning of the show.
- 40:54[SPEAKER_07]: I pulled a story about the guy from Maine, he didn't know who Plattener was.
- 41:00[SPEAKER_07]: Well, if you're living Maine and don't know, you know, what are people know here?
- 41:04[SPEAKER_07]: Not that.
- 41:06[SPEAKER_13]: I know there are people that they just don't care.
- 41:08[SPEAKER_13]: They work or they have jobs or they're just not into it.
- 41:11[SPEAKER_13]: I understand the days where people were informed because they got up and read the paper
- 41:17[SPEAKER_13]: You know, most of us are a lot of us start reading the newspaper when we're 10 years old, you know, I mean, it was just a, okay.
- 41:24[SPEAKER_13]: One of the first things I did was get a subscription to the paper when I went on my own.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_07]: Well, listen, you know, I still, I don't know how many people subscribe to the times I do.
- 41:38[SPEAKER_07]: I pay for it every year, I, you know.
- 41:41[SPEAKER_13]: Well, like you said, Jeff, but I mean, what much?
- 41:43[SPEAKER_13]: But then the news is four days old by the time you get it.
- 41:48[SPEAKER_07]: Right, I get, I don't know, I get my news from a variety of sources.
- 41:54[SPEAKER_13]: Well, I get a new truck of, I have a lot of things on there.
- 41:57[SPEAKER_13]: You pick up things on that and there are callers that contribute, you have callers that contribute.
- 42:04[SPEAKER_13]: Right.
- 42:05[SPEAKER_13]: And I'll do real-time news, some are discouraged upon, but others, you know.
- 42:13[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, I'm just saying it's, uh,
- 42:17[SPEAKER_07]: And in a vacuum, um, I don't know.
- 42:19[SPEAKER_07]: I mean, it's like this e-bike law.
- 42:22[SPEAKER_07]: I don't know anything about it.
- 42:25[SPEAKER_13]: Well, I'm like the past, it's just what I'm glad of because there's nothing worse than have somebody come up from behind you.
- 42:30[SPEAKER_13]: While you're enjoying music and taking a walk, and have no wisdom by her.
- 42:36[SPEAKER_07]: It's scary because you're figuring what if I had stepped sideways and got hit.
- 42:40[SPEAKER_07]: Especially at our age stuff.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_13]: But yeah.
- 42:43[SPEAKER_13]: or any age.
- 42:45[SPEAKER_13]: I mean, those things are going 30 miles now.
- 42:47[SPEAKER_13]: You got somebody's whipping down a sidewalk and and got for a bit of car backs up out of a driveway and hit them because you know who's falling is going to be.
- 42:56[SPEAKER_13]: Not the guy on the e-bike because Joe Stanley's going to come in and sue the guy that was driving the car and the insurance company's just going to settle out of the car because they don't want to pay the lawyer.
- 43:06[SPEAKER_13]: So, you know what I mean?
- 43:07[SPEAKER_13]: It's a lose-loose situation.
- 43:09[SPEAKER_07]: Right.
- 43:11[SPEAKER_07]: Okay, well, listen, I got a runoff.
- 43:13[SPEAKER_07]: I got a call coming.
- 43:14[SPEAKER_13]: All right, good enough.
- 43:15[SPEAKER_07]: Thank you right now.
- 43:16[SPEAKER_07]: Good afternoon, Ron here.
- 43:19[SPEAKER_10]: Good afternoon, Jeff.
- 43:19[SPEAKER_10]: I heard you're talking about the timing of the article on the times.
- 43:24[SPEAKER_10]: Small and the article on the top of the fold.
- 43:27[SPEAKER_10]: But, you know, you got to think about that.
- 43:29[SPEAKER_10]: And I don't mean to criticize the paper.
- 43:31[SPEAKER_10]: I mean, they've got their issues.
- 43:32[SPEAKER_10]: We all know that.
- 43:34[SPEAKER_10]: What is think of the timing?
- 43:35[SPEAKER_10]: Because the paper last time was printed
- 43:41[SPEAKER_10]: we get it on Friday, then Saturday there's no paper, then Saturday there's no paper, then Monday's a holiday there's no paper, well there's no paper any day on Monday.
- 43:52[SPEAKER_10]: So today is the first day that the paper came out since the printing that was done on Thursday evening.
- 44:00[SPEAKER_10]: And a story like you say, you see the stories that are four days old, and that's
- 44:12[SPEAKER_07]: uh... so i can understand why the small one uh... article was uh... just just arriving at the top of the page to say it's it's a new world here at the store quarter-town keep up the good work there community broadcast all right thank you all right seven five five twelve forty the phone number if you'd like to give us a call will put your on the air talk about whatever you want now i don't know yesterday we had that little flap with the rank we made claiming the restrooms were open in the park
- 44:42[SPEAKER_07]: I think, and I don't know, and then Brian Ashley, you know, great guy, calls in and said, no, that's not true, but you know what Brian did to begin to call to me was, I wouldn't recommend you to do it.
- 44:59[SPEAKER_07]: Well, somebody called me and said that they heard this on your show, well, I don't care what somebody said, who called you and why don't you listen to yourself, sound sound
- 45:11[SPEAKER_07]: Anyway, I don't know, I mean, we've had consistent complaints about restrooms up there.
- 45:18[SPEAKER_07]: It's just the way it is.
- 45:20[SPEAKER_07]: And we'd like to see it better.
- 45:23[SPEAKER_07]: And if a city doesn't think what was said was fair, they can call, they know our number.
- 45:30[SPEAKER_07]: I think.
- 45:31[SPEAKER_11]: Maybe they know.
- 45:32[SPEAKER_07]: All right, so, but we'd love to have Brian in here.
- 45:40[SPEAKER_07]: for a more full-sum discussion of the issues.
- 45:44[SPEAKER_07]: You know, he's a good guy.
- 45:45[SPEAKER_07]: I remember him from when he worked in Kingston and came over here.
- 45:49[SPEAKER_07]: He's one of the most affable people you could ever meet.
- 45:53[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah.
- 45:55[SPEAKER_07]: Good afternoon, you're on the air.
- 45:57[SPEAKER_14]: Yeah, hi, Mayor.
- 45:58[SPEAKER_14]: I just wanted to comment on what just says about a new desert.
- 46:11[SPEAKER_14]: They seem to take a couple of national fees from CBS.
- 46:16[SPEAKER_14]: They have a couple of national stories right off the bat when it's supposed to be local moves.
- 46:20[SPEAKER_14]: If you want to hear national, you can go to any one of the CNN and send BC any of that.
- 46:27[SPEAKER_14]: And then we do get a story that's local.
- 46:29[SPEAKER_14]: It's a softball story, meaning softball part for the kids being renovated and things like that
- 46:39[SPEAKER_07]: you know, really is what I call softball moose, it's not news to me, well it's not worth it, it's a yeah, it's a fee for you, you agree with that in principle, yeah, I'm principle, yeah, but I don't think things like who you're elected official, so I don't think that matters to most people anymore.
- 47:06[SPEAKER_07]: or what's going on in local government, most people don't know what political subdivision they live in.
- 47:11[SPEAKER_07]: So, I'm not sure that matters to people, and maybe the media reflects that lack of concern over there as items.
- 47:17[SPEAKER_07]: I don't know.
- 47:19[SPEAKER_14]: It's apathy, I don't think any, they don't want to rock the bolt for one reason or another because of, you know, their commercial spots, their sponsors, I don't know what the crux of the matter is.
- 47:36[SPEAKER_14]: I live in Cape Vincent, we have a major debacle down here with a summer long detour during the height of tourist season and those are stories that maybe some of the public want to hear once in a while and well I've heard that I heard that when I was down at the Tiki bar we could so ago and Jerry told me about it.
- 48:01[SPEAKER_07]: And we talked about it here and our Glenn talked about it and it was on my blog, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of maybe in the old days when the owners of the paper had real estate interest down there or the matter, but you've got don't you have a French festival coming up and nowhere to wait to get there?
- 48:19[SPEAKER_14]: Got the French festival coming up this weekend on Saturday.
- 48:24[SPEAKER_14]: My wife and I both volunteered for the
- 48:31[SPEAKER_22]: I believe that, you know, it's a gem of the North Country, the lighthouse is one of the top.
- 48:37[SPEAKER_14]: You can think of boltcastle for sure, but we've been basically caught off from a stream of tourists because other people have pulled them while it's a hard deal to get down there.
- 48:52[UNKNOWN]: They've got to go on each other.
- 48:54[SPEAKER_07]: Well, right, there's a detour right around three mile bay, right, uh, a culver.
- 48:59[SPEAKER_14]: Yeah, swap roads to, you can go ashland, there you go.
- 49:04[SPEAKER_14]: What's my wife and I do?
- 49:05[SPEAKER_14]: We had doctors appointments today.
- 49:06[SPEAKER_14]: We go down the millen's bay, get on eight, go rid in the shimals.
- 49:10[SPEAKER_14]: So it's not that big of deal.
- 49:11[SPEAKER_14]: If you don't, if you're not local, you don't know that.
- 49:14[SPEAKER_07]: right you just want to get on route twelve a year whatever it is and go there and what's the deal with this call for it i know down in barn screen is they can replace a culvert before two and a afternoon but well i worked for a i'll tell you i work for the near state department transportation for thirty seven years we never closed down a road for a box culvert uh... was it was put in two pieces in your main thing one
- 49:43[SPEAKER_14]: uh... one lane traffic through the work zone so i don't know what this new regime is doing with closing down a main tourist room for a whole season but uh... and there doesn't seem to be any you know maybe i'm missing it maybe it's been covered and if it has been i apologize
- 50:00[SPEAKER_07]: But, you know, people down there, they're, they're, you got to a new restaurant and cave Vincent, you got the summer residents, and they can't get, you know, you say, look, everybody come down to cave Vincent for the French festival, and you can't get there from here, and nobody knows what the side roads are.
- 50:16[SPEAKER_14]: Exactly.
- 50:17[SPEAKER_14]: Exactly.
- 50:18[SPEAKER_14]: And I am sure that there's going to be, you know, I hate to say it, but there's going to be one or more serious accidents, because when you do get tourists, they're on these
- 50:31[SPEAKER_14]: My god, the swamp road is like not much more than a cattle pass and there's there's going to be problems and I don't believe there was any You know the discussion about that or any public meetings on that It was just come all day during the same thing down in Limerick, but that's just a short detour on that
- 50:56[SPEAKER_07]: Well, yeah, when I, like I said, I was going to go to dinner at the T.C.
- 50:59[SPEAKER_07]: place.
- 50:59[SPEAKER_07]: I love it down here.
- 51:00[SPEAKER_07]: It's great in millon space.
- 51:02[SPEAKER_07]: Oh, yeah.
- 51:02[SPEAKER_07]: So you start driving out West May and all of a sudden, oh, you got to cross over by the airport and come back around, which it wasn't too bad.
- 51:09[SPEAKER_07]: And then I get, you know, they finally got that bridge back in and shemo, you get past that.
- 51:14[SPEAKER_07]: Now, I turned down to the millon's bay road, but I saw ahead of me, that there was, you couldn't go through three mile bay.
- 51:27[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, well, because we got that later runs a church down there, you know, that calls in.
- 51:32[SPEAKER_14]: I mean, it's something so I don't know and we, you know, it's just, we took a hit with the ferry, George died past the way, but he had a lot of problems before that COVID, blown engine, one night, my wife and I were sitting there watching the river, we're on the river on 12V and
- 51:55[SPEAKER_14]: uh... in november and here comes the horn fairies uh... twirling down the river broke free from a snoring in the bad storm and crashed up against uh... uh... uh... out island so they had their troubles but they are trying to get it back and see this is why and unfortunately and i'm not again i'm not blaming one individual but
- 52:15[SPEAKER_07]: all of this stuff is interesting news i have so many times people come to me say well boy up's a bad accident over there what's on the news about i don't each of you i can they don't know the cops don't go out of the way to tell anybody so oh no no in fact they've even stopped now the state police have stopped uh... turning the blood out all content in uh... usually
- 52:39[SPEAKER_07]: You know, let me tell you a quick story here.
- 52:42[SPEAKER_07]: Back when I was young, 17, 18, and we lived over on the South side.
- 52:47[SPEAKER_07]: But I was coming out of what is now the YMCA parking lot.
- 52:50[SPEAKER_07]: It was the Woolworth thing there.
- 52:52[SPEAKER_07]: And it's driving and there's a light it's sermon.
- 52:55[SPEAKER_07]: So I was turning, so I gunned it.
- 52:57[SPEAKER_07]: I ran the light.
- 52:59[SPEAKER_07]: And Officer Bannister pulled me over.
- 53:02[SPEAKER_07]: Now he was always, oh boy.
- 53:03[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah.
- 53:05[SPEAKER_07]: and gave you a ticket so i i didn't want to go home to see the parents but and of course i kept the ticket i went to court and paid it
- 53:14[SPEAKER_07]: But it was in the Watertown Daily Times, Jeffrey E. Graham, 231 Schlade Drive, find X amount of dollars for this.
- 53:22[SPEAKER_07]: And there was some bit of humility or social control if you will and all of that.
- 53:28[SPEAKER_07]: And nowadays, you can take these tickets and crumple them up and throw them on the floor and then we broke your license, but you drive anyway.
- 53:35[UNKNOWN]: Yep.
- 53:36[SPEAKER_07]: Yep.
- 53:37[UNKNOWN]: I was clocked at doing 45 or 30 and fellow by,
- 53:43[SPEAKER_07]: Mike Van Waldich, and to make it worse, I was in a state pickup truck late, didn't back from lunch, so it was a nice paragraph, well, you know what I mean, like you said, the, yeah, it was a beautiful, it makes you ashamed, you know, there was at least some shame, some humility, yeah, you know, nowadays you don't see that, it's there is no news anymore, and anyway, okay, well, you're Carlos, but interesting, and thank you very much, I got to run now.
- 54:13[SPEAKER_07]: All right, right out.

- 55:50[SPEAKER_00]: Need more room?

- 57:34[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, you know, I don't know what it's like to be at the dead end of us of a traffic situation.
- 57:38[SPEAKER_07]: Remember, in the 80s when both the Pearl and Middle Street bridges were closed to repairs, and it was crazy.
- 57:47[SPEAKER_07]: It was crazy.
- 57:50[SPEAKER_07]: But after noon, around the air,
- 57:54[SPEAKER_09]: real grand hold on let me turn my jukebox off here hey the other week there did I hear you say that you had some comments about this safe act and what's your viewpoint of voting stuff there gun control yeah well i've commented on that a lot over the years yeah you mean that the people who have safe act science generally don't vote
- 58:23[SPEAKER_09]: they're not in terms of you to say that you didn't like the idea of the say back voting uh... act that's trying to get the truck trying to get through conders now that has nothing to do with gun control that has to do with election security election and yet no that's why i'm talking election uh... yeah i don't really uh...
- 58:46[SPEAKER_07]: It's not going to pass, and it's not the juices and worth the squeeze, as they say.
- 58:51[SPEAKER_07]: I drop it.
- 58:52[SPEAKER_07]: You know, Trump, he just talks about how he lost the 2020 election.
- 58:56[SPEAKER_07]: I don't know if he did, but if he did, if he'd been elected, then he wouldn't be an office now.
- 59:00[SPEAKER_07]: So he should quit complaining.
- 59:04[SPEAKER_09]: All right.
- 59:04[SPEAKER_07]: I think the election's people do a generally good job.
- 59:08[SPEAKER_09]: Well, what happened on the California,
- 59:14[SPEAKER_07]: well that's california that's not here if they're happy with it out there apparently they are i don't think it's safe act uh... it's gonna really accomplish anything and it's idea of trying to make it more difficult to get registered to vote not on by that either most people don't have a part of living it
- 59:38[SPEAKER_07]: I don't know, but I gotta listen, but, sir, I gotta go, I'm out of time, I'm out of time.
- 59:45[SPEAKER_07]: All right, well, thanks for calling, and I hate, you know, I can't get into that whole thing.
