- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome to Girls Got Hallmark, a Hallmark Review podcast. In
- 0:02Speaker 1: today's mini episode, we're talking to Tamara Mowry-Housley, the star
- 0:07Speaker 1: of the upcoming Haunted Harmony Mysteries Prelude to a Wedding,
- 0:10Speaker 1: premiering on Hallmark Channel on Saturday, September 5th, and available
- 0:14Speaker 1: to stream on Hallmark Plus on Sunday, September 6th. Give
- 0:17Speaker 1: our interview a listen, and of course, we'll be back
- 0:18Speaker 1: next week with our review of Prelude to a Wedding.
- 0:33Speaker 1: First of all, I've seen the newest movie. I loved
- 0:35Speaker 1: it so much. Let's start with the character of Gethsemane.
- 0:38Speaker 1: And you picked up the violin for this role.
- 0:42Speaker 2: What was the process like?
- 0:43Speaker 3: So, Megan, a little bit about me.
- 0:46Speaker 2: I am type A. Yes. Never met a challenge you
- 0:53Speaker 2: didn't like?
- 0:54Speaker 1: Yes.
- 0:56Speaker 2: And when I did the first one, I remember.
- 0:59Speaker 3: You know, there's this line where she's telling her students,
- 1:02Speaker 3: all right, let's start with, you know, the sounds, you know,
- 1:07Speaker 3: just the note like E, you know, and.
- 1:10Speaker 2: I had to sing it.
- 1:12Speaker 3: It was so scratchy when I did. I was like,
- 1:15Speaker 3: this is bad. This is this is really bad. The producer,
- 1:19Speaker 3: Joel Rice, who I just absolutely love, he was like,
- 1:22Speaker 3: you want to do like violin lessons?
- 1:26Speaker 2: You know, we're going to do more than one. I
- 1:28Speaker 2: was like, yes, absolutely. I want to do her proud.
- 1:34Speaker 3: I don't want her to look like she doesn't know
- 1:37Speaker 3: what she's doing. And he was like, well, you know,
- 1:39Speaker 3: playing the violin is one of the most challenging instruments.
- 1:41Speaker 3: And I said, all right, let's go. Let's go. To me,
- 1:45Speaker 3: Hallmark has been a place where I can continue to learn,
- 1:52Speaker 3: grow as a person and an actress. And, you know,
- 1:56Speaker 3: I'm so grateful for that. They've given me so many
- 1:58Speaker 3: opportunities to keep doing that. And, you know, I took
- 2:01Speaker 3: a hiatus from acting to be a talk show host
- 2:05Speaker 3: for seven years. And it's just been a wonderful place,
- 2:08Speaker 3: a safe, you know, place to continue to do that.
- 2:12Speaker 3: So when I had the chance to learn the violin,
- 2:14Speaker 3: I was like, let's go for it.
- 2:15Speaker 2: And now.
- 2:16Speaker 3: I'm actually, I can play songs pretty well. In the
- 2:20Speaker 3: beginning of the wedding song, that's me. I'm actually playing it.
- 2:29Speaker 3: And you can see I've got the posture.
- 2:31Speaker 2: It's so much better than when I did the first one.
- 2:35Speaker 2: I do give myself grace.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Have you heard from people about that? People who are violinists?
- 2:41Speaker 1: Have you gotten feedback?
- 2:43Speaker 3: Oh, good.
- 2:46Speaker 2: No. But I'm open to it.
- 2:50Speaker 3: You know, I know I can watch something and be like, yeah, okay.
- 2:56Speaker 1: Okay, well, we've set up a love triangle in these movies,
- 2:58Speaker 1: and I need to know from you, Tamara, looking at
- 3:02Speaker 1: the character of Gethsemane, if you had, like, who are
- 3:04Speaker 1: you rooting for?
- 3:05Speaker 2: Who are you? Where's the love connection? I don't know
- 3:09Speaker 2: if I'm going to get in trouble, Megan, but I'm
- 3:11Speaker 2: going to give you.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Okay, this is the thing. I, at first, was.
- 3:18Speaker 3: Like, oh, I'm Team Griff. I am Team Griff all
- 3:22Speaker 3: the way. He is, you know, I feel like we're
- 3:27Speaker 3: the same. He's a teacher, you know, even though he's
- 3:30Speaker 3: a math teacher.
- 3:32Speaker 2: I'm a music teacher. You know, he works just right
- 3:34Speaker 2: across the hall. He cooks for me. He's so gorgeous.
- 3:41Speaker 3: You know, like, it's a no-brainer. But then I was like,
- 3:46Speaker 3: I mean, this truly happens. When I am filming, I'm like,
- 3:49Speaker 3: I am totally like, I'm team Griff now. I do
- 3:52Speaker 3: love in the fourth one, because in the beginning, it's
- 3:54Speaker 3: an extremely slow burn.
- 3:55Speaker 2: It buried, yes. Okay, what's going to happen? Whereas in
- 4:00Speaker 2: the fourth one, Griff really gets a chance to shine.
- 4:03Speaker 3: And finally.
- 4:04Speaker 2: Finally. And he's so handsome.
- 4:08Speaker 3: And when they have that piano scene and he's, science
- 4:11Speaker 3: meets poetry.
- 4:12Speaker 2: You're just like. Like literally I was shaking in my
- 4:14Speaker 2: boots when we were shooting it.
- 4:15Speaker 3: Because he's just so sweet and so talented and so gorgeous.
- 4:20Speaker 2: I was like team Griff all the way. Team Griff.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Team Griff. But then something.
- 4:24Speaker 3: Surprising happened with Detective O'Reilly. What I like about Detective O'Reilly,
- 4:30Speaker 3: there's this scene without giving too much away where she
- 4:34Speaker 3: meets him and she's like, you know, this EpiPen situation.
- 4:39Speaker 3: I want. It was kind of like a flirtatious banter,
- 4:44Speaker 3: you know, back and forth. I think he excites.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Her in a way that Griff doesn't.
- 4:52Speaker 3: And he's, not to say that Griff isn't intelligent, he's
- 4:55Speaker 3: a math teacher, but there's something rugged and hot and
- 5:02Speaker 3: different about Detective O'Reilly.
- 5:05Speaker 2: Like, he will beat somebody up.
- 5:08Speaker 3: Sorry.
- 5:10Speaker 2: For Gethsemane, you know? And Megan, that's hot. I don't
- 5:14Speaker 2: disagree with you. So, I don't know. What do you
- 5:20Speaker 2: think as a viewer? Like, which one? Well, we've gone
- 5:24Speaker 2: back and forth. I do have to agree.
- 5:26Speaker 3: Look.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Marco Grazzini could not be more handsome. So it's hard
- 5:31Speaker 2: not to root for him.
- 5:32Speaker 3: I know.
- 5:33Speaker 2: But I hear what you're saying.
- 5:34Speaker 1: There's a little more grit to Inspector O'Reilly and there's
- 5:37Speaker 1: something attractive about that.
- 5:39Speaker 2: Marco.
- 5:40Speaker 3: Marco.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Griff almost seems like I wanted him to play a
- 5:43Speaker 1: little bit. Not hard to get, but it was clear
- 5:47Speaker 1: that he's all in. And with Inspector O'Reilly, there's a
- 5:51Speaker 1: little bit of the push and pull because Gethsemane kind
- 5:53Speaker 1: of is, you know, stepping on his toes.
- 5:55Speaker 3: A little bit.
- 5:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:56Speaker 2: So they've got that balance. So I'm very curious to
- 5:59Speaker 2: see where it goes. I know. I am too.
- 6:03Speaker 3: But, you know, we may, if it continues, I think
- 6:08Speaker 3: it would be cool to throw in a little third. Oh, no.
- 6:12Speaker 2: No, meaning like maybe an X comes back.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 6:17Speaker 2: Maybe it forces one of them to make a little
- 6:19Speaker 2: bit more of a move.
- 6:20Speaker 3: Yes, but I think it's time for her to make
- 6:22Speaker 3: a move.
- 6:23Speaker 2: Yes, I agree.
- 6:24Speaker 3: I think I want to see now a beautiful, budding
- 6:29Speaker 3: romance and how she does with that. And again, with
- 6:35Speaker 3: Detective O'Reilly... He can show her around Ireland, places he's
- 6:40Speaker 3: never seen before.
- 6:42Speaker 2: Maybe in more ways than one.
- 6:44Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:45Speaker 1: I have to say, we love Gethsemane and Amon's chemistry.
- 6:49Speaker 1: And Wendy and I often say how much we would
- 6:52Speaker 1: love a Ghost Whisperer-style series, like a television series with
- 6:56Speaker 1: those two.
- 6:57Speaker 2: I just think there's so much fun we could have there.
- 7:00Speaker 3: I know.
- 7:02Speaker 1: In this movie, we had a new director, some new writers.
- 7:05Speaker 1: What was that like on set? How was that difference
- 7:07Speaker 1: felt with you guys?
- 7:09Speaker 3: That's a very good question because especially when you're used
- 7:12Speaker 3: to familiarity, and L.L. is one of my favorite directors.
- 7:17Speaker 3: She's actually directing the Christmas film that I'm doing with– Oh, God.
- 7:25Speaker 2: I'll just say that.
- 7:26Speaker 3: Yes. Oh, God.
- 7:28Speaker 2: That's all I have to say. You could have had
- 7:30Speaker 2: worse co-stars, right?
- 7:31Speaker 3: No.
- 7:33Speaker 2: He's... I have no words. He's just scrumptious. He is amazing.
- 7:39Speaker 3: But having a different director and a different writer, you're like, oh, no.
- 7:44Speaker 3: You know, like, how is this one going to be?
- 7:46Speaker 2: Because the first three, they had the same.
- 7:52Speaker 2: How do I say this? It's like, you know they
- 7:54Speaker 2: are of the same... you know, mystery.
- 7:58Speaker 3: So you're thinking, okay, a new person, are they going
- 8:00Speaker 3: to give us that same vibe that works so well?
- 8:05Speaker 3: And plus with LL, you know, we've been working so
- 8:08Speaker 3: much together. We have a second hand. It's like a shorthand. Sure.
- 8:13Speaker 2: She knows exactly what to say to get me there.
- 8:16Speaker 3: But Allie, there's also something beautiful about having someone new.
- 8:19Speaker 3: They give you a new spin on it. You know,
- 8:22Speaker 3: a new... Fresh eyes.
- 8:26Speaker 2: Fresh eyes. A new perspective.
- 8:28Speaker 3: You took the word right out of my mouth. That's
- 8:30Speaker 3: beautifully stated.
- 8:31Speaker 2: A new perspective.
- 8:33Speaker 3: And I think with this one, this is what I
- 8:36Speaker 3: will say, and I'm curious to hear your thoughts as well.
- 8:39Speaker 3: I love that how each one can stand on their own, right?
- 8:43Speaker 3: Each one is individually like the same, but different. You know,
- 8:49Speaker 3: the first one, the novelty of Ireland. Second one is
- 8:52Speaker 3: a little bit more banter. You know, it's a little
- 8:54Speaker 3: bit more joyful, I would say.
- 8:55Speaker 2: There's lots of joy. The captain.
- 8:58Speaker 3: The third one, the castle. I feel like you had
- 9:03Speaker 3: lots of suspects there. That was pretty cool. Where this one,
- 9:06Speaker 3: it kind of just stays in one place. And staying
- 9:09Speaker 3: in one place, to me, feels more like a mystery.
- 9:12Speaker 3: It's more like … You know, Clue.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Like Clue.
- 9:15Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Everyone's all in the same thing. Locked room. Locked in
- 9:18Speaker 2: a room. Someone did it.
- 9:20Speaker 3: Which one? Who? And I thought visually, even though you
- 9:24Speaker 3: didn't see lots of Irish landscape as much as you
- 9:29Speaker 3: would see in the other ones, it was beautifully shot. Yes. Like,
- 9:34Speaker 3: the lighting.
- 9:36Speaker 2: You can see Gethsemane too.
- 9:39Speaker 3: What I loved about her character in this one, she's
- 9:41Speaker 3: a lot more, I would say... Like, not grounded, but, like,
- 9:47Speaker 3: she's confident. She knows where she is. Like, she knows
- 9:52Speaker 3: what she does. And she knows she's good at it.
- 9:55Speaker 3: She's still going to have fun with it. She doesn't
- 9:57Speaker 3: know these people, but she's going to pretend like she does.
- 10:00Speaker 3: And she's going to make sure.
- 10:01Speaker 2: She gets in there and ask, you know, questions. And
- 10:05Speaker 2: I think it just felt slightly different. It felt a little,
- 10:08Speaker 2: I don't know if it's just me, but it felt
- 10:10Speaker 2: a little eerie.
- 10:11Speaker 3: I don't know. Like, just, like, I think because I'm
- 10:15Speaker 3: looking at the lighting, you know, cinematography and And the
- 10:19Speaker 3: fact that this person died and everyone is amongst the killer,
- 10:25Speaker 3: you know, like, and you just don't know who, who
- 10:28Speaker 3: it is.
- 10:29Speaker 2: Well, this has been so fun.
- 10:31Speaker 1: I could talk to you forever, but thank you so
- 10:33Speaker 1: much for your time.
- 10:34Speaker 2: And hopefully we can chat soon.
- 10:48Speaker 1: All right, friends, before we go, just a quick heads up.
- 10:50Speaker 1: You're about to hear some ads. These little gems help
- 10:52Speaker 1: us keep the show running and the Hallmark love flowing.
- 10:56Speaker 1: So do with that info what you will. Grab a snack,
- 10:59Speaker 1: hit the skip button, or maybe, just maybe, listen in
- 11:02Speaker 1: and discover your new favorite product.
- 11:05Speaker 3: Bye.
