- 0:00Speaker 1: We were talking about hot air ballooning because we got
- 0:03Speaker 1: an email of interest from a friend of the program
- 0:06Speaker 1: who owns a hot air balloon company. Yes, was offering
- 0:10Speaker 1: us a ride.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Somebody who was it in the chat room or something
- 0:14Speaker 2: said I've done you should really do it. It's very
- 0:17Speaker 2: peaceful and wonderful. No, doctor Mike, Oh was doctor Mike.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Yeah. And there was a claim made by the hot
- 0:25Speaker 1: air balloon person that.
- 0:27Speaker 2: It's the safest, safest form of air trap.
- 0:30Speaker 1: So I thought I would make sure that a little
- 0:33Speaker 1: bit all right, hot air ballooning is considered. Oh, by
- 0:36Speaker 1: the way, x ninety six dot com slash live. It's
- 0:38Speaker 1: a picture of me and Joe and Jonesy at the
- 0:42Speaker 1: Hot Air Balloon Festival in the Ogden Valley and Jonesy's
- 0:47Speaker 1: almost twenty one now, so that's how you can tell
- 0:49Speaker 1: how old that picture is. But that's as close as
- 0:53Speaker 1: I want to get to Wow, hot air.
- 0:55Speaker 2: How long after that did you guys get married?
- 0:57Speaker 1: What very there?
- 1:00Speaker 3: I say, Look, you do have closed that aren't black,
- 1:03Speaker 3: and your hair is.
- 1:03Speaker 2: A lot longer.
- 1:05Speaker 1: I was twenty one years ago.
- 1:07Speaker 2: What does it just get shorter as yeah goes by.
- 1:11Speaker 1: At any rate, Hot air ballooning is considered a safe activity,
- 1:15Speaker 1: with fatalities being relatively rare. In the US, there's an
- 1:19Speaker 1: average of two to three fatalities per year, with seven
- 1:22Speaker 1: hundred and seventy five total accidents and only seventy fatalities
- 1:26Speaker 1: reported between nineteen sixty four and twenty fourteen.
- 1:29Speaker 2: WOW.
- 1:30Speaker 1: While accidents are rare, they often lead to serious injuries,
- 1:33Speaker 1: with over eighty percent of reported crashes resulting in at
- 1:36Speaker 1: least one fatality or serious injuries. So if you do crash,
- 1:41Speaker 1: it ain't it ain't good. Most accidents occur during landing,
- 1:48Speaker 1: which makes sense, often due to high winds or collisions
- 1:52Speaker 1: with power lines or hard landings. About sixty percent of
- 1:57Speaker 1: accidents involve commercial operations. Ejection from the basket is the
- 2:01Speaker 1: leading cause of death. They don't strap you into the basket.
- 2:04Speaker 1: There's no no, there's no seatbelts, no. In the While
- 2:12Speaker 1: serious risk of fatality is generally low, it makes it
- 2:16Speaker 1: safer than many other transport activities. However, it is considered
- 2:20Speaker 1: riskier than commercial air tours by airplane or helicopter.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Do they have a beverage service? Well, I think sometime.
- 2:29Speaker 1: I think sometimes they do, like a champagne and hot
- 2:31Speaker 1: air balloon thing. I think that's like a that's like
- 2:34Speaker 1: a thing.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Is there a restroom on board?
- 2:37Speaker 1: No, for sure, just over over the side.
- 2:40Speaker 4: Side probably, yeah, just just hang over the side, uh huh.
- 2:46Speaker 1: So, but I.
- 2:49Speaker 4: Well leave it to the guy in the chat room
- 2:52Speaker 4: to find stuff like this. According to twenty twenty four
- 2:56Speaker 4: data report, I'll me find this here. They're at least
- 3:03Speaker 4: there were less than thirty hot air balloon deaths between
- 3:06Speaker 4: two thousand and eight and twenty twenty two. Being killed
- 3:11Speaker 4: by a shark, a lightning strike, or even falling into
- 3:14Speaker 4: the Grand Canyon, which shockingly leads to about twelve deaths
- 3:19Speaker 4: per year, are all more likely.
- 3:22Speaker 1: So it's very safe.
- 3:23Speaker 2: So the odds are you're not. The odds are generally
- 3:26Speaker 2: what happens with these The balloon companies like this too.
- 3:29Speaker 2: They got it, got it down to a science. They
- 3:32Speaker 2: go up straight and then they come down kind of
- 3:36Speaker 2: in the same area. They don't they don't travel a lot.
- 3:43Speaker 1: But you know how, if I never do it, then
- 3:46Speaker 1: I'll never die that way. That's true, So I don't
- 3:48Speaker 1: have to worry about.
- 3:50Speaker 2: You know, China, If you never sleep, you'll never die
- 3:53Speaker 2: in your sleep.
- 3:54Speaker 3: That's true. Too.
- 3:55Speaker 1: That's why I can. I can mark Shark off my list. Yeah,
- 3:59Speaker 1: and in Grand Canyon off my list. Now, lightning strike,
- 4:03Speaker 1: I can't prevent that one happening. That one is a possibility.
- 4:08Speaker 2: Oh, you can be you can be fairly prudent with
- 4:13Speaker 2: protecting yourself from lightning.
- 4:14Speaker 1: But it's but it's not something I can completely. I
- 4:18Speaker 1: can't avoid situations completely where that might be.
- 4:22Speaker 2: Whenever there's lightning in the area, you run under a tree.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Everybody knows. Everybody knows that I got to get under
- 4:30Speaker 2: a tree. You got to make yourself as what as
- 4:33Speaker 2: low as small as possible.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Well, yeah, because the things that are standing, that are tall.
- 4:38Speaker 2: That's where it will hit. It'll hit that first.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Most of these things. If I just stay in bed,
- 4:44Speaker 1: I can avoid.
- 4:46Speaker 2: But again, don't go to sleep, because what can happen
- 4:50Speaker 2: with sleep? Well, you can die in your sleep.
- 4:53Speaker 3: Oh what about steak?
- 4:56Speaker 1: What about steak?
- 4:58Speaker 2: You choke to death on a piece of steak? I
- 5:00Speaker 2: could I've seen that happen.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, So take small bites and too thoroughly. Don't
- 5:06Speaker 1: don't get too excited about steak.
- 5:08Speaker 2: Don't go to movies.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Don't go to movies.
- 5:10Speaker 2: I told you I told you that story I had.
- 5:12Speaker 2: There was a woman sitting behind me at a movie
- 5:14Speaker 2: theater in Pennsylvania had a heart attack or something and
- 5:18Speaker 2: died right there in the chair, fell into the aisle.
- 5:21Speaker 1: What was the movie?
- 5:22Speaker 2: It was Harry and Tonto about old people.
- 5:28Speaker 4: Let's see, hot air balloon could accidentally land on you, Gena,
- 5:32Speaker 4: that's true, So you could die by hot air balloon.
- 5:35Speaker 1: So I can't. I can't completely remove it from the possibility. Well, yeah,
- 5:40Speaker 1: anything could land on me.
- 5:44Speaker 2: Yeah anything.
- 5:47Speaker 3: Let's see.
- 5:48Speaker 4: Yep, I went hot air ballooning one time. The landing sucked.
- 5:51Speaker 4: The wind kept us bumping down, up and down, multiple times,
- 5:55Speaker 4: dragging us on the ground. I'll never do it again.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:00Speaker 4: Why was Bill watching Magic Mike?
- 6:02Speaker 2: I wasn't Why I wasn't watching Magic Mike? What what?
- 6:07Speaker 2: I don't know. I don't know what that means. Why
- 6:09Speaker 2: I've never seen that's a movie? Right, Yeah, it's a
- 6:12Speaker 2: good movie. I've ever seen it.
- 6:14Speaker 4: Sign off today. Anything can land on me, Anything can
- 6:19Speaker 4: land on me. I can't prevent things from landing on you.
- 6:24Speaker 1: I tried to take as many precautions as I can, but.
- 6:29Speaker 2: Not that Well, somebody misheard which we were talking about
- 6:32Speaker 2: doctor Mike, who went it's our friend. Doctor Mike said
- 6:36Speaker 2: he's been up in a hot air balloon many times.
- 6:38Speaker 3: Okay, I think someone's just messing with you.
- 6:43Speaker 5: Don't do that make me mad. Bill doesn't like to
- 6:48Speaker 5: be messed with Magic Mike. Is the stripper movie that
- 6:52Speaker 5: caused the Old Lady hearted?
- 6:54Speaker 1: No.
- 6:55Speaker 2: The movie I was watching was Harry and TNTA with
- 6:58Speaker 2: Art Carney, and I forget who else Art Carney was.
- 7:03Speaker 2: Maybe his cat was.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Maybe there's a story about a woman going to Magic
- 7:08Speaker 1: Mike and die.
- 7:08Speaker 3: Yeah, there's a text from Sue.
- 7:11Speaker 4: I just know that after that laughable hot air balloon
- 7:14Speaker 4: scene and Walking Dead, I'll never ride in a hot
- 7:16Speaker 4: air balloon.
- 7:17Speaker 3: That's also what made me stop watching the show.
- 7:19Speaker 1: That's documented here. I told you that's when I gave
- 7:22Speaker 1: up on Walking Dead. Was the hot air balloon episode.
- 7:25Speaker 1: That was stupid, and my biggest problem with it is
- 7:29Speaker 1: it looked cheap and terrible.
- 7:31Speaker 4: Well, yeah, they like it was like green Screen. Every
- 7:34Speaker 4: year they kept cutting the special effects budget.
- 7:36Speaker 1: They should not have They should not have done that.
- 7:38Speaker 2: I gave up on it a little before that. I think,
- 7:40Speaker 2: what is it still on?
- 7:43Speaker 4: No, it's over, But The Darryl and Carroll Power Hour
- 7:49Speaker 4: is still going. They're well, they're going to Spain now.
- 7:55Speaker 4: And then there's the one with Maggie and Megan in
- 7:57Speaker 4: New York Real, which is actually pretty good.
- 8:00Speaker 2: What's it? What's it called?
- 8:01Speaker 3: You can't remember it? Dead City? I want to say
- 8:05Speaker 3: that was actually pretty good.
- 8:07Speaker 1: I should I should circle back and give it a try.
- 8:10Speaker 3: No, oh okay, I.
- 8:11Speaker 1: Don't have to.
- 8:12Speaker 2: No, I wouldn't.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Okay, there's other good shows.
- 8:17Speaker 4: That you do have my permission to watch Battlestar, but
- 8:22Speaker 4: you're doing that you have finished and or almost?
- 8:24Speaker 3: Okay, so did you do that then?
- 8:27Speaker 1: And I told Joe we have to watch Rogue one
- 8:29Speaker 1: when we're done.
- 8:30Speaker 4: As kind of a why Daredevil yesterday was great?
- 8:36Speaker 1: Oh?
- 8:37Speaker 3: So good?
- 8:39Speaker 2: Did you watch hell Mary with Joe yet?
- 8:41Speaker 1: Not yet? No, I've seen it, but not with him.
- 8:45Speaker 3: Has he finished the book?
- 8:46Speaker 1: Yes?
- 8:47Speaker 3: Okay, so you can go at any time now?
- 8:49Speaker 2: Yes, telling me he doesn't have to fix dinner and
- 8:53Speaker 2: then you can go to the movie.
- 8:56Speaker 1: Why can I have both?
- 8:57Speaker 4: Did you ask him about that's why he's doing the
- 8:59Speaker 4: dishes just because you do the dishes wrong and you
- 9:01Speaker 4: put your steak knives and or your cooking knives in
- 9:04Speaker 4: the dishwasher.
- 9:05Speaker 1: He won't tell me I'm doing something wrong. He won't,
- 9:07Speaker 1: but I get a sense that that's probably what it is.
- 9:10Speaker 2: M all right.
- 9:12Speaker 1: So passive aggressive, that's passive aggressive. That's just passive.
- 9:17Speaker 2: Oh you know, you know, you're absolutely right. No, you're
- 9:20Speaker 2: you're you're absolutely right. He's just passive.
- 9:23Speaker 3: He's passive. Bills aggressive difference.
- 9:26Speaker 2: It's the yin and yangers your life that's different. The
- 9:28Speaker 2: men in your the man in your life exactly, the
- 9:31Speaker 2: passive one in the aggression exactly
