- 1:28for the first time on New York's sports loudmouth, ladies and
- 1:32gentlemen, we are now talking to an NFL draft pick, and he's
- 1:36going to be a nice one for the 2026 NFL Draft, Kent State
- 1:42defensive lineman Jelani Davis. Jelani, what's up, buddy?
- 1:48We're good, man. I mean, you look pretty good.
- 1:50I mean, you're excited and what we got three weeks away from
- 1:54maybe you being drafted in the top three rounds, maybe the last
- 1:58three rounds or maybe your first round talent and nobody knows
- 2:01about it. Right.
- 2:03So I mean, I'm trying to give you some hype here.
- 2:06I want the fans to love you. So I mean, Jelani, there's we
- 2:10have a defensive lineman that was drafted in the first round
- 2:13by the New York Jets, very high pick.
- 2:16He's sitting right over there and quitting Copos.
- 2:18What is it like getting ready for the combine?
- 2:21What is it like just getting ready for something that could
- 2:23change you and your family's life?
- 2:27It's not, it's, it's not just staying focused.
- 2:31I mean, that's, that's a big part of it.
- 2:33I mean, just just knock out all the X activities, you know,
- 2:39Because you know, going college from Pro is two different
- 2:41things, you know, just translating in your mind to, to
- 2:46average, to pro to college to pro.
- 2:49So my biggest thing, just staying focused and working.
- 2:53You got to, hey, it's not easy. You got to work.
- 2:57I, you know, it's, it's so interesting because I go back
- 3:00and forth. We, we speak to a lot of
- 3:01athletes and guys that were drafting in the NBA, guys that
- 3:05were drafting the MLB in the NHL and, and the questions.
- 3:08I always, I don't like throwing these questions out lightly
- 3:11because I was never drafted. I, I was a good hockey player.
- 3:15Maybe in the future I would have been drafted, but that's a whole
- 3:18nother story. When you look at some of the
- 3:20talented guys that you're compared to and there's a lot of
- 3:23good defensive lineman in this class, Reese coming from Ohio
- 3:26State, you have a kid from Miami, you have a, another kid
- 3:31from North Dakota State. I mean, when you look at all
- 3:34these different defensive lineman and, and you, you
- 3:36compared and, and there are a lot of people compare you and
- 3:39contrast the type of style of player that you are.
- 3:43Is there a particular player that you would match up right
- 3:45now to you that's coming out of the draft?
- 3:48Or is there a guy that you can't compare to you and that's what
- 3:51makes you unique and different? Well, I'm more like a twitchy
- 3:54guy. I'm 6 foot 1280 so if I had to
- 3:59compare myself, you know, you know who I'm going for.
- 4:02Who's that? Aaron Donald?
- 4:05Really. I got to.
- 4:08Now, everybody knows Aaron Donald's one of the hardest
- 4:11workers in the gym. This guy, I watch his workouts
- 4:14and I work out. So I, I'm, I'm serious when I,
- 4:17when I go out there and I'm trying to bench or I'm using
- 4:20dumbbells and I'm trying to put up one 10s or one 20s and this
- 4:24guy's putting up one 50s like they're nothing and he's putting
- 4:26up up 10 times. What type of guy, what type of
- 4:29training do you have to go out there and do to compare yourself
- 4:33to an Aaron Donald? Just like I said, just the
- 4:38mindset he got just no work, work, work, no excuses.
- 4:42I mean, 2A days, two days is more like to me now with 1A day,
- 4:49I don't know if just big consistent is another one.
- 4:52He's very good at that. Yeah, just like I said, just
- 4:58big, consistent within, on and off the field, even just when it
- 5:06come to the film room, Know your opponent, know what to expect
- 5:11from your opponent. So, so JD, let me let me hop in
- 5:16in there. Right.
- 5:17All right. So you say you compare yourself
- 5:19when you look at the film. When you look at the film, you
- 5:21see, you say you compare yourself to Aerodon.
- 5:23What what specific things that you think that you relate to
- 5:26when it comes to Aerodonal? His get off.
- 5:30Get off. Just get off for sure.
- 5:32His his his eye. Carnation in his hands.
- 5:38OK, OK. What what's, what's your go to
- 5:40move right now? What what move you working on
- 5:41right now with? My go to move.
- 5:43Probably a cross chop. OK.
- 5:46Or a counter. Or a counter.
- 5:48Or a counter. Cross chop to a spin.
- 5:51OK, so your counter to the cross chop is a spin.
- 5:55Or or or a staff club RIP. I have a couple moves.
- 5:58Actually I have like 10 in the back but you know when you get
- 6:01ready for a game or anything you only need about 3.
- 6:05Well, yeah. Well, two, you need one, One
- 6:08that you open, show, move that you're going to always use that.
- 6:11Can't nobody stop, you know what I'm saying?
- 6:13Like when you look at Reggie, Reggie White, it was a club RIP
- 6:17and there was nothing that nobody can do about it.
- 6:18Each and every Sunday he lined up.
- 6:20Nobody could do nothing about it, you know, And there's
- 6:23certain guys got Ben, some guys got after the bill, some guys
- 6:26use long arms. You know, it just depends on the
- 6:29situation. So where you working out at?
- 6:32I was working on it at performance out in Dallas.
- 6:39I actually just finished two about two weeks ago.
- 6:43I have four days last week just following weekend.
- 6:47What were some of your numbers? Tell the people some of the
- 6:50numbers that didn't get a chance to see you. 3030 Vert 510-5472 I
- 7:01got 95 broad jump and I'm still waiting for the other number
- 7:04Dave and he gave me my other numbers.
- 7:07Yet, OK, Jelani, a lot of people want to know where you're eating
- 7:09at right now because I, I mean, I hear people in the background,
- 7:12is it Starbucks or we had a, a nice Chinese restaurant.
- 7:15What are we? What are we doing?
- 7:16About I don't even know we're at man, it's crazy that you said
- 7:18that because I tried to find the the the the most quietest place
- 7:23in the airport. I'm in the airport now.
- 7:24OK, so I'm leaving Ohio. Where you going?
- 7:29Back back home, back to St. Louis, MO because that's where
- 7:33I'm from. I'm from St.
- 7:34Louis, MO. Oh, by the way, if anybody wants
- 7:35to know, we are talking a 2026 NFL Draft prospect, Kent State
- 7:40defensive lineman Jelani Davis. Go ahead, Speedy.
- 7:42Yeah, I was gonna ask about Saint Louis because obviously
- 7:44they had the Rams move from Saint Louis to LII was I
- 7:47actually wrote a college speech of why that wasn't going to work
- 7:49at La. Nobody cares about your college
- 7:51speeches. Tell an origin story for the
- 7:54love of God, what? Why can't?
- 7:57I I can't speedy go ahead I. Was going to say, So what was it
- 7:59like with the football culture growing up in Saint Louis and
- 8:02what were some of your experiences like growing up both
- 8:04with football and with other sports you played?
- 8:09I know where I'm from, the 314 is not, is not easy.
- 8:12You know, Saint Louis, you really heard bad about it.
- 8:16So you really don't hear no good about it.
- 8:18But coaching in Saint Louis, I mean the coaching I got, I went
- 8:21to, I grew up and the suburbs of Saint Louis.
- 8:24So it was very well, very, very disciplined, a very disciplined
- 8:30coach Where where, where you have to be disciplined and the
- 8:33guys around you have to be disciplined and also on the same
- 8:36page. So it was, it was, it was cool.
- 8:41You know, Jelani, we look at I watch football a lot, like
- 8:44strategically, I'm a terrible Jet fan and why I call myself a
- 8:48terrible Jet fan because I pick on The Jets because I'm just a
- 8:52terrible person. I, I just know The Jets are
- 8:55going to be bad every single year and I root for a terrible
- 8:58team. It's just, it's, it's just
- 9:00everything, everything is persistent in my lifetime when
- 9:03it comes to watching Jets football.
- 9:05Look, I root for Quinton Couples and he was drafted by The Jets.
- 9:08I mean no, but it's true. I I mean, I'm an honest guy.
- 9:15We're work in progress. No, no, you look at the New York
- 9:17Jets and The Jets could always use a defensive lineman.
- 9:21If you were trying to sell yourself to the New York Jets to
- 9:24draft you, what could you tell The Jets fans?
- 9:27What could you tell The Jets GM and Muji and Aaron Glenn before
- 9:32he falls asleep? What could you tell him or them
- 9:36how and why they should draft you?
- 9:39Come on, sell me. Jelani sell me.
- 9:41Let him think, Let him think. That's a great question.
- 9:45I wasn't ready for that one. No, but no, for real.
- 9:47If I if I had to, if I had the GM right here in my face and
- 9:51I'll tell him why or or yeah why used to drive me a hard work.
- 9:58I don't ask no questions. I'm all about go go, go, go, go.
- 10:01I get I just want to get the job done or just even if it's
- 10:05special teams D line, like anywhere, like I'm just ready,
- 10:08like I just want to win coach like so if you feel like you can
- 10:13put me at this position, this position, special teams, I'm
- 10:19with. I'm just I'm more of a team guy.
- 10:21I think that's really why I would tell him him that it would
- 10:25be a good thing to draft me, a player like me, because I'm all
- 10:29about the team, you're all about winning.
- 10:32Come on, you got to be a little bit more sexy on this.
- 10:34I can help you out here. I mean, if I I'll pretend I'm
- 10:37Jelani Davis. You ready here?
- 10:38Here's here's my take. You know I'm a.
- 10:40Hey Jelani, what can you do for The Jets?
- 10:42I'm I'm, I'm a, I'm a sexy guy. I got, I'm a sexy guy with my
- 10:47shirt off and my shirt on. I go out there, I'm a teammate,
- 10:52I'm a lover and I love everybody.
- 10:54That's what I'd say. And, and when I get in that
- 10:57game, I'm clothes lining people. I'm beating the hell out of
- 11:00people and people are going to show that I'm going to be eating
- 11:04every night after the game because I'm eating on the field.
- 11:07That's what I want to hear. Give me some power.
- 11:10Errol's first target would be Travis Hunter.
- 11:12Give me some power. You're a liability.
- 11:14You can't be closing on people no more.
- 11:16That's that's not legal. Well, I'm a liability everywhere
- 11:18I go, so I might as well close on people.
- 11:20Yeah, but you there. I am.
- 11:21There it is. That looks juicy.
- 11:22It looks like a piece of meat. I like that.
- 11:25I like my chicken. Who you who you watching in this
- 11:30in this upcoming the draft that you believe you should be in
- 11:33front of? Because you know, as someone who
- 11:35played this on the side of Aaron Donald, I'd be the first to tell
- 11:38you that he didn't believe there was nobody better than him.
- 11:41So since you're going to compare yourself to Aaron Don, I want to
- 11:44know who in this draft that you believe that you got a leg up on
- 11:49and that you can actually beat out in the position.
- 11:53That's crazy because I got a couple.
- 11:56Talk to me. What's the what's the defensive
- 11:59tackle? That's, that's, that's He played
- 12:02the Navy. Landon Robertson.
- 12:04Navy and land and the Navy. Yeah, Landon Robinson.
- 12:08Yeah, he played for Navy, Detective for Navy.
- 12:12Landon Robertson. OK, who else?
- 12:15He played for Navy. Yeah, Landon Robertson, I know
- 12:19you're talking about. I got a thing.
- 12:22I'm not too much educated about the D lineman that's.
- 12:26You don't see no competition. No, I don't, I don't really see
- 12:29nothing. I really don't.
- 12:31I really don't especially just because, you know, I was in, I
- 12:34was in the G5 conference or so you know, like, like I said, I
- 12:38was, I was ranked high like until like week 6-7 top 25 in
- 12:44the country for G5 and, and, and they had me at like they had me
- 12:48at like 2120 and and I'm just like, OK, he, you know what I'm
- 12:54saying? Politics, policy at the end of
- 12:55the day. But when we turn that film on,
- 13:00it's nowhere near comparison. So what do you say to the people
- 13:04you know, being that you played at a lower tier school?
- 13:08How, how can people you know, how can coaches, GMs, you know
- 13:12when they ask you the question, how can can they trust you to be
- 13:16able to be dominant against guys that played in power 5 and
- 13:20better schools and against grown men now that you going into the
- 13:22NFL? Yes, Yes, I can because I've
- 13:26already experienced that this year.
- 13:28We played we played three, we played three.
- 13:30Powerhouse. No, Yeah, well, no, we played
- 13:33three top ranked teams in the country.
- 13:36We played Florida State, we played Texas Tech and we played
- 13:40Oklahoma. And during that time when we was
- 13:42playing them in the beginning of the season, they were all ranked
- 13:45top, top ten in the country. So for, for that experience, you
- 13:54know what I'm saying? Like when you play them them
- 13:56them higher schools, it's more about your technique.
- 14:00It's not like like the first game was Merrimack this year or
- 14:05last year and I had like a 93 PFF grade, A pass passwords
- 14:09grade. And then I can play Texas Tech
- 14:13Oklahoma. I might have a 70.
- 14:16So it was just showing me how like you got to be more
- 14:18technical and boring. Be in your in your notes and
- 14:23film like you have to watch film when you playing them guys.
- 14:26Then I know scrubs, like I said, they're technical and they
- 14:29discipline, discipline boys that that's on the mission just like
- 14:33me that listen to their coaches. It worked your way up to that
- 14:37FSU game or that FSU game where you had five total tackles in
- 14:40that game, I believe. I think two of them were for
- 14:42loss as well. So like when you worked your way
- 14:45after that and after the game, like what was it like facing
- 14:48A-Team like that and then realizing you had that kind of
- 14:50result and where it took you to that next level?
- 14:53It's crazy because I you know, you, you know, it's a kids dream
- 14:59to always go P5 or play AP5 team in this in this game.
- 15:03So I wasn't really like, I don't know, I didn't know how to take
- 15:06it at first, but it was it was a good experience.
- 15:10It was very different honestly, like after the game when I had
- 15:14whatever, I had like 5 seconds, you said one of the starting off
- 15:20this line that came up to me and was like, man, we literally game
- 15:22playing you for the whole week. Like, like our coach told us,
- 15:26like you better guard this guy. And that game was a real
- 15:29awakening for me. Like I said from the Merrimack
- 15:32game, I was getting triple teams back-to-back to back or double
- 15:37team back-to-back to back. So if I beat one guy, I got
- 15:39another one coming. So that's just like I said, I
- 15:43that that just taught me a lot because the game can get harder
- 15:47and harder and harder and harder.
- 15:49We are talking to 2026 NFL draft prospect Kent State defensive
- 15:54lineman Jelani Davis. Jelani.
- 15:56Now we watch the game and there's a lot of stuff we we
- 16:00understand about the game and there's a lot of stuff we don't,
- 16:02but we want to get to know you as a person now.
- 16:05What's your favorite meal? What it what do you like to eat?
- 16:08What do you eat a certain meal before a game?
- 16:11Do you have some kind of ritual that you do before a game?
- 16:14Do you not wear underwear under your your pants?
- 16:18What do you do? What is Is there something out
- 16:20there that you do that nobody does that would make people
- 16:23intrigued to buy in to Jelani Davis?
- 16:27It's crazy saying that because every pregame or or a night
- 16:31before a game, I always get a salad.
- 16:34Like you know how like at the hotel they have like pasta,
- 16:39chicken, shrimp, all type of stuff.
- 16:41The whole 9. I I usually just have me a
- 16:43salad. I have me a salad with a apple
- 16:46juice and or water. Apple juice with a salad.
- 16:49I mean, interesting. Apple juice with salad.
- 16:53I've been doing it for the last four or five years I've been in
- 16:55college. You know, you know, it's funny
- 16:57you say salad. I mean, Speedy loves tossed
- 16:59salad, right? You like your salad?
- 17:01It has to be tossed salad is salad.
- 17:04Oh my God. Well, you know, and we like to
- 17:10throw some curve balls at the old speedster.
- 17:13But Jelani, that's what I love. And I love people being honest.
- 17:17And there it is. You've got super powers.
- 17:18I mean, you're in the next Space Jam, or we'll call it, well,
- 17:22we'll call it speed Jam because that's speedy has this new movie
- 17:25coming out with and he's he's the head, you know, counter
- 17:29partner of the cartoon character of Mickey Mouse and Minnie
- 17:32Mouse. But I, I want to I want to get
- 17:34into your thought of the NFL draft and, and getting a chance
- 17:39to go to Pittsburgh or are you going to Pittsburgh?
- 17:41What are you doing? Are are you going to go?
- 17:43I, I, if you're not a first round draft pick, you're not
- 17:45going to get a chance to walk on the stage.
- 17:47Is there a particular place you want to be for this draft?
- 17:51Are you going to be with your family?
- 17:52Do you want to go to Pittsburgh and see the crazy fans and and
- 17:55get a chance to experience the the great part of the NFL draft?
- 18:00What What are your plans to do for the NFL Draft?
- 18:03You know, I wish I can go to the the draft in Pittsburgh, but you
- 18:07know, it's not politics. But for sure, I'm going to death
- 18:12be with my family, my mom and my and my close friends on a on a
- 18:17draft day because I'm going, I'm going, I'm going more third day
- 18:24UDFA. How many brothers and sisters do
- 18:28you have, by the way? I have two.
- 18:30I have two sisters. Two sisters, how old are they?
- 18:3321 and the other one's older than me, about six months, so
- 18:37she's 25. How old are you, Jelani?
- 18:40I'm 24. You're 24 years old, OK?
- 18:43You're a mama's boy, right? For sure 100.
- 18:45Percent mama's boy. All right, all right, so the
- 18:48reason why I ask you this question because I wasn't I
- 18:51wasn't a mama's boy and I wasn't a daddy's boy.
- 18:53So I was trying to find my way as a kid.
- 18:55So a lot of these people, a lot of these draft picks that I've
- 18:58asked over the years, they don't give me answers.
- 19:00Well, I'm a mama's boy, daddy's boy, all right?
- 19:02I'm a forced kid. That's why I wanted to ask you.
- 19:04So I mean, when you look at all your experiences as a young
- 19:09athlete moving now to a professional team, what has
- 19:14helped you grow up as a young student, a young athlete, and
- 19:19why do you believe you can transition into the NFL?
- 19:27A big part of me, which is really me growing up, was
- 19:32listening. You know, it was hard hit as a
- 19:33kid. I didn't, like I said, my mom
- 19:37was the only one. She's the only household like
- 19:41the only parent that really raised me.
- 19:44So, you know, I, I didn't really have no father figure in my
- 19:46life. So I kind of had to learn on how
- 19:49to listen and when to do this and when to do this and when to
- 19:52respond this and when to respond this and body language, you
- 19:56know, all that stuff matters. I want to ask a three three-part
- 20:01question here. Quarter parts, I don't like
- 20:03these three-part questions. I'd up it from Josh.
- 20:06You did two-part questions. But the.
- 20:08Quarterback you'd like to sack the most, the running back you
- 20:10would like to tackle the most, and the offensive lineman you
- 20:12would like to face the most in the NFL.
- 20:15If I had to pick quarterback, it would be definitely Patrick
- 20:18Mahomes running back. It would definitely be.
- 20:25I like to tell her, so I'll say Derek Henry.
- 20:26Honestly, I like Derek Henry. You want to hit Derek Henry out
- 20:31of all the running backs? You can take him down.
- 20:34You want to hit Derek Henry? He wants to start with the
- 20:37challenge. I just I'd rather get that wake
- 20:39up call now than later. That's a wake up call, let me
- 20:42tell you. I mean, there's like a train
- 20:43coming down that's. Listen, you got, you got.
- 20:46I weighted. 330 LB man in front of you that's going to give you
- 20:50all the wake up calls you need. Don't worry about getting when
- 20:54you get to him, that's going to be the easy part.
- 20:58For sure, but if I had to pick online, it would definitely be
- 21:03the Eagles. That's like they have the best
- 21:05online in the league. Thank you I.
- 21:07Thought you might would have, said Trent Williams.
- 21:08And he was. He was going for all the heavy
- 21:10hitters. I mean, yeah, I mean.
- 21:12Even if he comes. Back this.
- 21:14Year. I mean, yeah.
- 21:16I mean, yeah. I got a cool question for you,
- 21:19Jelani. And by the way, we are talking
- 21:21in 2026 NFL draft prospect Kent State defensive lineman Jelani
- 21:24Davis. Johnny, if I had a a box of
- 21:28pizza with your favorite topping in the middle of the field and I
- 21:31had a nice juicy Turkey that just came out of the oven and
- 21:35you had to run from to one or the other and you need to get it
- 21:39before everybody else does, which do you want to go after?
- 21:43The box of whatever topping of pizza you want or that nice
- 21:48juicy Turkey? And why pizza?
- 21:53A pizza box for sure, just because you got my favorite
- 21:55carbon on. How do you compare pizza in a
- 21:59Turkey? Who doesn't like Turkey
- 22:01Thanksgiving? Nobody's running a Turkey.
- 22:03I'm running a Turkey. I'd rather eat the Turkey than
- 22:07I. Also, it's November.
- 22:08You can always have pizza. You know what always can get?
- 22:11Turkey. I mean, I'm going after the
- 22:14Turk. I'll pull on that Turkey.
- 22:17I'll pull on. Turkey you don't like pull on.
- 22:19Turkey you don't like pulling on that nice beautiful, meaty
- 22:23compression? Thanksgiving in my mouth, hey.
- 22:26Yo, that's crazy. Well, somebody, well, you know
- 22:37what I'm trying, I'm trying to open up Quinton Couples.
- 22:41You know, there's not like a Pandora box.
- 22:44It's like a box and it has like 1,000,000 locks on it.
- 22:47And I'm just trying to find the right key to open up the right
- 22:50part of Quinton Couples, as we call him Q, because sometimes he
- 22:55gets a little lost in that conversation just a little bit.
- 22:59We're trying to find it. Been flipping them all night.
- 23:01So he's, he's having a lot of. Oh, is that what it is?
- 23:04He's dealing. With is that what it is all
- 23:06right? From earlier today.
- 23:08All right, my, here's the last question, Jelani, because I know
- 23:10you're you're getting ready to jump on a plane, go to Saint
- 23:13Louis. All right, now this this is a
- 23:15great one. And by the way, everybody who
- 23:17doesn't know who we're speaking to, I'm just going to throw it
- 23:19out one more time. 2026 NFL draft prospect Ken State,
- 23:23defensive lineman Jelani Davis. Here's here's a great question.
- 23:28All right, you're hanging out and you're listening to a track
- 23:33that's going to pump you up. OK, Either you want to knock
- 23:36somebody's head off or you want to run into a wall.
- 23:39What track are you listening to to get you hyped up to kill
- 23:44somebody? Come on, man, give me a good
- 23:51one. None of this little Wayne crap
- 23:53or Drake. I want to.
- 23:54I want something that's going to pop me up.
- 23:56I want to RIP their freaking heads off.
- 23:59Let's go. Good question.
- 24:05I don't want to say like, I want to say NBA young boy, but then I
- 24:09don't want to say NBA young boy. There's a lot to go I.
- 24:13Have to pick the NBA young boy song Games of War for sure.
- 24:18His his master. His master album that he dropped
- 24:22like a few months back. OK I would definitely pick that.
- 24:29I don't know. Come on man, I got.
- 24:34I got one for you. I got one for you before you
- 24:35know. Young, I mean, I I'd be turning
- 24:37all the different. Tracks.
- 24:38I got one for you before we let you go and I want you to finish
- 24:41it for me. You don't want to go.
- 24:47You don't want to go. To war please don't sing come on
- 24:53please don't sing this guy well we know Quinn couples could
- 24:59never go on American Idol or the.
- 25:07It's all right. Jelani's probably going to be on
- 25:09that plane. He's going to be like.
- 25:10He's going to be thinking about it.
- 25:11What the hell? Was he singing?
- 25:13It's crazy because he got me stuck right now.
- 25:15I'm thinking about it now. I'm stuck.
- 25:16I'm stuck too, and I don't want to think about it.
- 25:23Oh, man. Jelani, you're sensational.
- 25:26Keep up. Keep smiling, man.
- 25:29You, you have to smile. This is a great time for you.
- 25:31I mean, Quinton, all he does is smile And and I even smile when
- 25:34Quinton's always wrong. You know, I, I smile a lot of
- 25:36time when he's wrong. So there's something, there's
- 25:39something to smile about every time he's wrong.
- 25:41I just smile. You know, it's great.
- 25:43It's a great thing to hear. But listen, you're a great young
- 25:47kid. I want you to do nothing, but I
- 25:50want you to play at a high level.
- 25:51I want you to to be in position to go to a right organization so
- 25:54you can grow and become the player that you want to be.
- 25:57And maybe an Aaron Donald. How how would that be?
- 26:00I mean, we interviewed Jelani Davis and he's the next Aaron
- 26:04Donald in the NFL. That would be a great story.
- 26:06Wouldn't that be? It's possible.
- 26:09I mean, I'd love to see it. I mean, I want to see you kick
- 26:11the hell out of somebody on that football field.
- 26:13And let let me tell you something, I'm going to give you
- 26:15some advice. Out of all the running backs in
- 26:18the NFL, you don't want to hit first.
- 26:20You do not want to hit Derrick Henry first.
- 26:22I'm just runner backs. Are easy bro.
- 26:25Don't, don't, don't. He's a media.
- 26:30He's a media guy you don't want to you.
- 26:32Do not want to run into that chainsaw.
- 26:35Back as a secondary, they don't want no smoke with the D.
- 26:37Line July, July The guy he really wants you to take down is
- 26:40Travis Hunter. That's, well, that's that's a
- 26:42wide receiver. That's the you could go on a
- 26:44receiver reverse. I mean, at any point if you want
- 26:47to hit him, I'd give you a couple of 100 bucks if you want.
- 26:49To. Close on that MO.
- 26:51Pull up on you. Dude, you think I'm afraid?
- 26:56Do you think I'm afraid of Travis the Gremlin Hunter?
- 26:59Do you really think you obviously don't know me?
- 27:02You do not know me. I play with him at at Jackson
- 27:06State. He is a dog.
- 27:07He is a. Dog, I'm a dog.
- 27:09I'm a dog. I can I, I bite your head off.
- 27:14Anyways, Jelani, Jelani, we love you.
- 27:17Keep up the good work. You know, and and I I know
- 27:20you're friends with Nathan. Nathan is a good kid.
- 27:22Tell him to stop wearing that blue blazer.
- 27:25Keep that blue blazer away from him.
- 27:29Take that. What?
- 27:30Let's sell that blue blazer. Let's get rid of that Dick.
- 27:33I mean, it's it's one of the ugliest I've ever seen anybody
- 27:35wear. How does a guy wear a blue
- 27:37blazer and a red polo and camouflage pants?
- 27:41How does that work? You've seen this guy, the way he
- 27:43dresses. We got to help him out.
- 27:44Got to help this kid out. I got him.
- 27:47You got him all right. Tell me what you would get him.
- 27:49But first of all, I before we let you go, if you were to pick
- 27:52out a nice unique thing to stand out for, for nothing to go out
- 27:57in the public, go out to the draft this year, what would it
- 28:00be? I.
- 28:01Don't know, I might give him a Nike tech just to start.
- 28:04Off. I like that, all right.
- 28:07I like that I. Like that, All right, it's.
- 28:09A start, you know what I'm saying?
- 28:10Just a start. I think it's the warm up then.
- 28:12We go to, then we go to khakis to polo shirt.
- 28:15All right. Then.
- 28:18We go to there. No moccasins, none of those.
- 28:22I mean, I think moccasins because.
- 28:24I'm not educated on that one. Yet no, no moccasins.
- 28:26I mean, niffens one of the he likes the open toes.
- 28:29He likes going out in the open toes.
- 28:31He likes that air hitting his toes.
- 28:33He loves the air hitting his toes, right, Nathan?
- 28:35I know he's in the back there. He knows it.
- 28:38And by the way, Nathan needs some style too in the back.
- 28:41I mean, he looks like he's in a jail cell.
- 28:42He has no pictures in his house. I mean, he's got nothing to look
- 28:46at. There's nothing to look at.
- 28:48It's just Nathan right there on a bare ass wall.
- 28:51Thank you, Jelani. Thank you man for your time man.
- 28:53Appreciate you coming through for.
- 28:55Having me for real. Jelani, you're, you're
- 28:57absolutely fantastic. Thank you for joining us.
- 28:59And when when you get drafted, we'll get you on the show.
- 29:02We'd like to hear your take on wherever you go and keep up the
- 29:05good work and keep working, man. I appreciate you.
- 29:09Guys all righty bro all. Right.
- 29:11Jelani Davis, ladies and gentlemen.
- 29:13Ken State, defensive lineman, young and improved.
- 29:18I'm trying to open up the kid. I mean, people have to
- 29:20understand something. I don't know if anybody
- 29:22understands how to interview people when people have nothing
- 29:25to say. You got to bring it out of them.
- 29:27You got to draw it out of them. It's like, it's like pulling a
- 29:31spleen out of, I don't know if you can do that, but I mean
- 29:34something, you got to pull something out.
- 29:35I mean, Speedy, like if you want to give Speedy a wedgie, you
- 29:38pull out his underwear. You know those those kind of
- 29:40things, right? Speedy, you're old.
- 29:41No wedgies. No, I'm a freaking 13 year old
- 29:44kid. Has anybody given you a wedgie?
- 29:46No, Nobody's giving you a wedge. No.
- 29:48How about like an early early bird special?
- 29:51Have you ever gotten one of those?
- 29:53No, you've never had an early bird special.
- 29:55Nobody's ever given you. No, I figured I I mean, it's who
- 29:58would give Speedy an early bird special?
- 30:01I mean, somebody needs to hide from this guy if he's never had
- 30:04an early bird special. I mean, serious.
- 30:06Somebody needs to shave that. Anyways, that was Jelani Davis.
- 30:10It was sensational. And we do have to go to inside
- 30:13baseball. Now let's go deep, deep inside.
- 30:16What I am excited. This is inside baseball.
- 30:21And let's start with the Yankees sweeping the Giant to start the
- 30:26season. So just going through the
- 30:28Yankees get all three of those games.
- 30:30We've got game one freed on Friday.
- 30:34I'm sorry, on Wednesday night. We already talked about it.
- 30:36Pam Schlittler 3, nothing win Game 28, strikeouts and then
- 30:42Game 3, Aaron Judge hit his second home run in two straight
- 30:45games, and he hit an ambulance out in left field.
- 30:48Another easy 31 win the pitching one run in those three games to
- 30:54start. I love what I've seen with the
- 30:56pitching. We, we expected the pitching to
- 30:57be elite. Rodon we haven't seen yet and
- 31:00we're going to see this pitching staff really become elite when
- 31:03Garrett Cole gets gets in this rotation probably around June,
- 31:07mid June. I expect the Yankees to be one
- 31:09of the best pitching Staffs in baseball.
- 31:11Top three, maybe top four depending on how everything
- 31:14falls. Schliedler was the most
- 31:15impressive out of all of them, five and and a half innings he
- 31:19played, he pitched very well, 8 strikeouts.
- 31:21And, and I I'll say this, the Giants roster and their the
- 31:25lineup is not the greatest, but this is a Major League roster
- 31:28and, and how dominant he looked in five innings was very
- 31:31impressive. And we've seen enough of
- 31:33Schlittler last year, especially in the playoffs, what he did to
- 31:36the Red Sox to know that this guy has the stuff to be a number
- 31:39one and #2 on this rotation and, and Max Freed is sensational.
- 31:43And the one thing that scares me right now is Aaron Judge.
- 31:47I know he had two home runs, but throughout this, this series, he
- 31:50was not hitting over 200. It, it was very scary.
- 31:54And I know it's early and I expect Aaron Judge to pick up
- 31:57and I, I expect him to hit over 50 home runs if he's healthy and
- 32:00he's, he plays over 150 games like he did last year.
- 32:03I expect Aaron Judge to have over 100 and 15120 RBI's and I
- 32:08expect him to be up for an MVP. It's just alarming that he had 4
- 32:11strikeouts and, and he was over 5 in the first game and he's
- 32:15been playing catch up really throughout the first three
- 32:17games. Giancarlo Stand is hot.
- 32:19I I love what I see with him. He's proving that his elbows as
- 32:23as of right now is not going to be a problem.
- 32:25And the lineup is hitting. They're hitting consistently and
- 32:28that's what we want to see. But again, it's early.
- 32:30It's only three games in, but it's impressive what we've seen
- 32:32with the New York Yankees, yeah. Historic marks for the pitching
- 32:35so far and you mentioned Schletler being the most
- 32:36impressive. I definitely agree with that.
- 32:37His cutter is really entering another dimension to you're
- 32:40seeing some of these other off speed pitches really getting and
- 32:42going. That's how you want to develop
- 32:43as a pitcher. Like, you can throw hard all you
- 32:45want, you can dominate in a small sample size all you want,
- 32:47but you want to be able to develop that secondary stuff.
- 32:50That was why we're talking. We'll talk about the Mets in a
- 32:52bit. And Nolan McLean was getting a
- 32:53lot of hype in the World Baseball classes.
- 32:55He had five pitches that were being used and even skeins using
- 32:575 pitches. That's the next level that
- 33:00Schlittler is going to do to be just as good as them possibly
- 33:02down the road. And like you said, Freed.
- 33:04I think he's better than he possibly could be.
- 33:06You're going to say that Schlittler, after his first
- 33:08game, didn't look better than all the pitches the Mets had
- 33:10out? Oh, absolutely.
- 33:11And I mean, he was unbelievable. And you get another level.
- 33:14Obviously with Max Free, he's going to have to pitch extra
- 33:17burden when other guys are hurt right now, but that's all.
- 33:20Obviously a very good start to the season and that lineup,
- 33:22yeah, Judge is concerning, but he got he's a small start.
- 33:24The only thing we worry about Max Freed is his blisters.
- 33:26Sure, as long as the blister situation doesn't hurt him this
- 33:30year. Max Fried is going to be an
- 33:31elite pitcher. And could you imagine when
- 33:33Garrett Cole comes back? Think about this.
- 33:35Garrett Cole is one of the best pitchers in baseball.
- 33:37He's been out for a year and 1/2 he comes back.
- 33:40He doesn't have to be the number one guy anymore.
- 33:42He could be the number three guy.
- 33:43Garrett Cole is your number three guy.
- 33:45I mean, you're talking about the best rotation in baseball, so
- 33:49there's nothing to complain about what we've seen and what
- 33:51we're watching with the New York Yankees as long as it is
- 33:54consistent and we expect them to be consistent all season long.
- 33:58Yeah. So just to add on to it, there
- 34:00is one thing that's like an elephant in the room and it's
- 34:03Spencer Jones. Spencer Jones hit a 109.1 mile
- 34:08an hour home run the other day at AAA Scranton.
- 34:11Wilkes Barre. He's down there with Jason
- 34:14Dominguez, who's getting regular playing time because his defense
- 34:16wasn't good enough. Errol.
- 34:19I mean, the Yankees can go undefeated all they want, but
- 34:22they got, it appears, another legit bat just sitting there
- 34:26waiting to come. Come on, guys, everybody wants
- 34:29it. Quentin likes to put his hands
- 34:30up. I was right.
- 34:31I was right. Well, I'm going to tell you what
- 34:33I am right about Spencer Jones. I I told people years ago when
- 34:38they drafted him in the first round.
- 34:39I don't know if he's Aaron Judge, but his ability to be a
- 34:43512 player, he can steal, he can play multiple positions in the
- 34:47outfield. He can even possibly play first
- 34:50base. He's got an unbelievable arm in
- 34:53the outfield and he's got power, power all over Yankee Stadium.
- 34:57His bat fits Yankee Stadium now. He's hitting like Otani, his
- 35:00swings like Otani. He's he's really just power
- 35:04batting the ball all over the place.
- 35:06There is no way Brian Cashman is going to keep him out of this
- 35:08lineup as the as the season moves forward.
- 35:11This guy is an elite player and he could win rookie of the year
- 35:14this year. I told Fish, and I'm telling you
- 35:17guys, if he gets cold up in the next two or three weeks and he
- 35:20gets a chance to play in this lineup, I believe this guy could
- 35:23be the rookie of the year for the New York Yankees and
- 35:25throughout the league. He is special.
- 35:27I've said it and I'll say it again.
- 35:29Book it, seal it and whatever you want to do.
- 35:31If you want to beat somebody up with Soap, and I sometimes want
- 35:34to do that to Speedy, I absolutely believe that Spencer
- 35:38Jones is the guy. You know, it's interesting is
- 35:41he's blocked by a couple of major leaguers and Qi know you
- 35:45told you told us when you followed your career, you were
- 35:48on a really stacked D line. And they try, they kind of try
- 35:51to put you out of position a little bit.
- 35:53I was wondering if you can kind of relate to the issues of this
- 35:56guy who's clearly like ready for the big time and they're just
- 35:59kind of holding them back. Yeah, that's that's something
- 36:02that coaches do. They make they try to make these
- 36:05game time decisions or these decisions when they feel like
- 36:07it's necessary. But just listen to you guys and
- 36:11watching the kid, I think he has an opportunity like Errol said,
- 36:14to be special. But if he's down there and he's
- 36:17not into this lineup soon, you know, that can weigh in on him.
- 36:20You know, being able to be that good at that level and be elite
- 36:24talent and not being able to showcase it.
- 36:26You can start creeping into his head that is not good enough.
- 36:29And that could slow his speed up, his speed down from where he
- 36:31going. I will also say something about
- 36:33Spencer Jones that I've learned about him over the last couple
- 36:35years. A lot of people have thrown him
- 36:37out. A lot of people have given up on
- 36:40him. As a matter of fact, Yankee fans
- 36:41were like, we'll trade him for him, We'll trade him for that
- 36:44person, We'll trade him for that person.
- 36:45Now all of a sudden, the Yankee fans see what type of special
- 36:48player he is and we're like, we got to call him up, we got to
- 36:51get him up, we got to see what he could do, blah, blah, blah,
- 36:53blah, blah, blah. That's all it is.
- 36:55And I'm going to tell you guys this right now.
- 36:57If you're a Yankee fan and you want to see Spencer Jones,
- 37:00you're going to get a chance to see him very, very soon because
- 37:02there's no way in hell Brian Cashman is going to keep him out
- 37:05of the league. And he's 24 years old.
- 37:07Aaron Judge came up in his rookie season in the middle of
- 37:11the season at 24 and the year after he was rookie of the year,
- 37:14almost won the MVP at fifty home runs.
- 37:16I'm telling you right now, this kid is not Aaron Judge, but he's
- 37:21a guy that I could see forty home runs, 100 RB is he's going
- 37:25to give you a steady outfield glove and an unbelievable and he
- 37:28could steal 2530 bases for his guy.
- 37:31For a guy his size, this guy's 6 foot seven.
- 37:33He has the speed of a Jacoby Ellsbury.
- 37:36That's how fast this kid is. He's fun to watch, I'm telling
- 37:39you. All right, let's move to the
- 37:41other team in the city and talk about the Mets.
- 37:44They started off with taking two of three from the Pirates.
- 37:47They blew Sunday's game in. Ex Make her squirt, make me
- 37:50jerk. Well, I guess that's what they
- 37:53did. We do know that Nathan has
- 37:54Stearns on a leash at as we know, but it didn't work out so
- 37:58well. Already a couple of issues.
- 38:01Athletes. Yeah, the athletes are
- 38:04struggling. Beau Bichette getting booed at
- 38:06home already, One for 14 with an error in the field.
- 38:11Jorge, they said tonight he like kind of grounded over a couple
- 38:14of balls that he usually drives. Jorge Polanco, your first
- 38:18baseman, is already an exclusive DH playing through an Achilles
- 38:23issue. They gave Robert a day off
- 38:26trying to keep him healthy. And they put Beatty in the
- 38:28outfield tonight, guys. So Beatty is now going to have
- 38:32eligibility, probably at every position in fantasy.
- 38:35I will tell you about Beau Bashet.
- 38:36I've told everybody when you move a guy out of position to
- 38:40start a season, it's going to throw him off.
- 38:42It's going to throw his bat off. And that's what you're seeing
- 38:44right now with Bo Bouchette. And now the fans are booing him.
- 38:47So we've seen this before with New York fans.
- 38:49We've seen it with the Yankees and we've seen it with the Mets.
- 38:51It doesn't bold. Well, now Bo Bouchette, it's
- 38:53still early in the season. He's going to find a way to get
- 38:56back into the fans good graces, but this is not a good sign.
- 39:00As far as Jorge Polanco, it made no sense.
- 39:03David Stearns bringing him in and giving him an extension or
- 39:06giving him a two year deal. It made no sense why they did
- 39:08it. I understand that you're trying
- 39:10to spots and they lost Pete Alonso.
- 39:13You wanted to add more power into the lineup because this guy
- 39:15had 20 something home runs. This isn't Pete Alonso and he's
- 39:18not a first baseman, so you're putting him at first base makes
- 39:22no sense. And now he's a designated hitter
- 39:25with an Achilles problem. David Stearns right now is right
- 39:29now on the hot seat. I'm telling you right now,
- 39:31everybody keeps talking. Everybody keeps talking about
- 39:33Mendoza. Oh, he's a bad manager, he's a
- 39:36bad dad. He's a bad dad, He's a bad dad.
- 39:38How about the GM? What the hell has he done right?
- 39:41Why? The only thing that's hiding
- 39:42right now is some of the players that weren't supposed to start
- 39:46off this season strong that are playing OK and and they're two
- 39:50and one, so nobody's complaining about it.
- 39:52But if you're a Mets fan, you can't be excited to see what
- 39:55this team is is putting out there early in the season.
- 39:59Yeah, I think there's other concerns with how long these
- 40:01games have gone. So you don't ever want to wear
- 40:03out a bullpen this early in the season either, especially
- 40:04because the Pirates, I know the Pirates offense is supposed to
- 40:07be better on paper this year than it was last year, but
- 40:09still, you're going to have to go in all these extra inning
- 40:11games. You had the high scoring game,
- 40:13that Opening Day game and then two back-to-back low scoring
- 40:15games. The starting pitching is doing
- 40:16enough and they're getting worn out.
- 40:18They're winning still most of the games besides yesterday, but
- 40:20still. How about your race?
- 40:22How about Perolta not pitching well in his first game?
- 40:24Yeah, that's alarming. I was referring with the.
- 40:26Other two games. Yeah, I'm just saying that's
- 40:27alarming. You traded away 2 top prospects
- 40:30and his first game with the New York Mets was not a good one.
- 40:34No, the other two, the other two games had good starting pitch.
- 40:36He just had long enough bullpens and then the offense
- 40:38disappeared. And yeah, Bichette's been a big
- 40:40problem. He had the SAC fly in that first
- 40:42game, but besides that, it was really not look good at all.
- 40:44Polanco, yeah, they're going to have to kind of be a platoon
- 40:46roll with him essentially with playing matchups with the DH was
- 40:49going to be hard enough to do as it is.
- 40:50And hopefully he could transition back to defense if
- 40:53there is other issues with injuries in the infield because
- 40:55Bichette is in addition to struggling, he's also an injury
- 40:58prone player too. And you wonder with some of
- 40:59these older guys if they're going to be able to hold up.
- 41:02You ever wonder sometimes about guys that are these GMs and they
- 41:08put together these super teams on paper queue.
- 41:10I, I've remembered like the Cowboys, the Eagles had that
- 41:13dream team that one year that was garbage, you know, and I
- 41:17loved, you know, they fell apart right away.
- 41:19Dream on, Team Fish. The Dream On team, yeah.
- 41:22You know, listen, I can't but too much pry with the Eagles.
- 41:25They've won recently, but I'll say this like I really think
- 41:30Stearns is getting. Exposed.
- 41:33How do you feel about some of those GM's that have these paper
- 41:36championships? It's stacked in a lot of times
- 41:39when people don't realize they're professional sports.
- 41:41It's about putting people in the right position so they can
- 41:44actually flourish and putting and building chemistry on much
- 41:48superstars versus just getting a bunch of talent and throwing it
- 41:52on the field and expecting it to come with results.
- 41:55So a lot of times guys with greater talent comes with ego as
- 41:59well. So you got to be able to manage
- 42:00that. You got to be able to manage the
- 42:01talent you got to make. That ain't work.
- 42:03It's not just throwing eggs and powder in the bowl and said I'm
- 42:05going to make a cake. Like there's other things that
- 42:07you got to add to it. There's more nutrients, there's
- 42:09vanilla, there's all kinds of things that you got to add to it
- 42:12and make perfect cake or to bring it to fruition.
- 42:16So I think that, you know, putting, putting all the talent
- 42:18on the same roster, it has its benefits, but if it doesn't gel,
- 42:22if it doesn't mess, there's no chemistry.
- 42:25I'm hungry. I haven't eaten all day because
- 42:27I'm getting a colonoscopy and you're going to mention cake.
- 42:31Thank you, Quentin. Thank you.
- 42:33Thank you. That's what we'll give you when
- 42:35you after you get finished getting your.
- 42:36Dude I've been on the bowl all show already.
- 42:39Every time we go to I'm running to the bathroom.
- 42:41I got to drink that orange crap before I go for a colonoscopy.
- 42:45My stomach is growling right now as we speak.
- 42:48I had a nice strip steak. Sucks for you.
- 42:52Let's move on to Steve Kerr. Yes, Steve Kerr talking about
- 42:57baseball. Errol, get this.
- 42:59I know you haven't seen this one.
- 43:00Steve Kerr wrote a letter to the Blue Jays manager John
- 43:04Schneider, telling him just what a wonderful job he did for the
- 43:09game of baseball, managing against that juggernaut Dodgers
- 43:13in the World Series last year. Just praising him.
- 43:17And you know, Schneider, he saw the letter and he read it.
- 43:20He was like, I was like, holy SI, don't know you, Kerr wrote.
- 43:24But I felt compelled to reach out after watching your
- 43:27incredible leadership on display during the World Series.
- 43:31As you know, Kerr then compared to when they lost to the Cavs in
- 43:342016, The pain in 2016 was real. But what always survives through
- 43:39the tough losses is the character and connection of the
- 43:42group. The loss won't define you, but
- 43:44the way you and your guys carry themselves afterwards will.
- 43:48Snyder got an extension for two years after this season,
- 43:52Schneider said. It was the message we've been
- 43:54preaching all offseason and spring.
- 43:56The run was great and the heartbreak was real, but it's
- 43:58not going to define who we are. We all went through it together.
- 44:00What we're going to be defined by is how we persevere through
- 44:05it. Blue Jays undefeated to start
- 44:07the season. How?
- 44:08How real are they with this apparently getting the vote of
- 44:13confidence coach from future Hall of Famer Steve Kerr?
- 44:17Whoop Dee Doo and and honestly, I could care less what Steve
- 44:22Kerr is writing to a baseball, GM, manager, or whoever.
- 44:28I could careless what Steve Kerr has to say about the Blue Jays.
- 44:31The Blue Jays didn't win. They didn't win.
- 44:35So you're you're giving them all the compliments in the world.
- 44:38Oh, you were so amazing. Oh, by the way, you, you choked
- 44:41in the World Series. You were up 32 and you choked
- 44:44against the Dodgers, the deferred Dodgers.
- 44:46Are you kidding me, Steve? I What are you trying to sell to
- 44:49me here? What are you trying to sell to
- 44:51me? Here's what I'm going to sell.
- 44:53Schneider has done a decent job. The Blue Jays are not winning
- 44:57the division this year. They're not.
- 44:59And here's the facts. What I have seen the Blue Jays
- 45:02do year in and year out, they bring players.
- 45:04They spend money on players and they throw money out there and
- 45:07it never sticks. You know what reminds me of what
- 45:10it's been reminded me of the Golden State Warriors over the
- 45:13last couple of years? They bring this guy and Butler.
- 45:16They bring this guy. They trade this guy.
- 45:18It never works. Steve, retire.
- 45:21Please retire. I don't need him writing to any
- 45:24baseball manager or coach or GM how great an organization is
- 45:29because they lost in the World Series.
- 45:31Yeah, You're also judging a case of there's other teams in the
- 45:34past that have beaten them in the playoffs.
- 45:35Yeah, they weren't as loaded as maybe they were last year.
- 45:37But you're going to go write a letter to the Padres and the
- 45:40Diamondbacks and all the other teams that beat the Dodgers in
- 45:42the playoffs previously? Like, who cares?
- 45:45Like, why are you just signaling out the Blue Jays?
- 45:46They didn't win. Make these shenanigan.
- 45:49You never won. It doesn't matter.
- 45:51Oh, you're great. You're sensational, but you
- 45:53lost. Yeah, great.
- 45:55You don't win. It doesn't matter.
- 45:56As as everybody says, winning only counts in first, not 2nd.
- 46:02And that's what the Blue Jays were.
- 46:03That's all I'm going to say. Sail a whale, sail away.
- 46:07And by the way, Steve Kerr complaining about how many games
- 46:10and how many practices he doesn't have and blah, blah,
- 46:12blah, because his team stinks now.
- 46:14So it's not about winning anymore.
- 46:16It's about making sure that his team is rested, highly rested.
- 46:19Please stop selling me something that doesn't make any sense.
- 46:24He does have Drake Mondo. Yeah.
- 46:26Errol's other favorite? A guy that likes taking a
- 46:27picture of his watch and putting on Snapchat.
- 46:30I don't know how you can get ejected when there's robots
- 46:34calling it, but it happened already.
- 46:37Twins manager? Was it Shelton?
- 46:40Is it not Blake? Derek Shelton.
- 46:42Derek Shelton. Blake Shelton was ejected on
- 46:48Sunday for our becoming the first manager in baseball
- 46:52history to be tossed for disputing the ABS challenge
- 46:56system. So the Orioles were trying to
- 46:59close out the game. Josh Bell, batting for the
- 47:01Twins, was walked on a three two pitch.
- 47:04But Helsley the closer. Yes, for former Mets.
- 47:08Believer. Mets legend.
- 47:09Brian Helsley. S hits the head S for the
- 47:12challenge and it gets called strike three.
- 47:16He clips the zone. Shelton runs out to argue that
- 47:20Hellesley didn't initiate the challenge quickly enough, saying
- 47:23he must have challenged within around 3 seconds without getting
- 47:28assistance from the dugout as he went nuts.
- 47:31Laz Diaz and Chris Siegel threw his ass out.
- 47:37Here, here's the facts. These rule changes and what Rob
- 47:41Manfred, as Jabba would say, thinks that baseball needs to
- 47:45transition into is a bunch of crap.
- 47:47We've never had this. You cannot challenge a walk.
- 47:50You can't challenge a strike out.
- 47:52The fact that they're doing this now makes no sense.
- 47:55It doesn't help baseball. You're trying to speed the game
- 47:57up. Why the hell are you trying to
- 47:59slow it down with these new rules?
- 48:01It makes no sense. It's complete rubbish.
- 48:05Stupidity, Rob. Retire everybody.
- 48:08Retire Steve Kerr, Retire Rob. They can go out and play golf
- 48:11together. It's pathetic.
- 48:13I don't. I don't like it.
- 48:13I don't like these new rules. It makes no sense.
- 48:16Fish, I do appreciate the Derek Stolton publicity sign.
- 48:18Now that you mentioned that it was Latz Diaz and Ryan Helsley
- 48:21evolved too. I would like to challenge them
- 48:22to make those two team look stupid, but they look stupid in
- 48:25their own right because you're not going to win a robot at
- 48:26umpire debates. I just don't understand how you
- 48:30can even attempt this one though.
- 48:31Speedy like it's a robot. You put it in.
- 48:34Twitch aren't going to do anything anyway this year
- 48:36anyway. I mean, to have the nerve to say
- 48:39you didn't challenge fast enough, I that's just crazy.
- 48:41This shouldn't be a robot. I mean, umpires, this has been
- 48:44around for over 100 a hundred years.
- 48:46Why are we changing the game? Why does this make sense?
- 48:49And you're trying to find ways to speed up the game.
- 48:52This slows the game down. It slows the game down when
- 48:55you're challenging things like this.
- 48:57Maybe in the playoffs. If you want to add this in the
- 48:59playoffs, that would make sense. This doesn't.
- 49:01It doesn't make any sense. Let's go to the last one, guys.
- 49:04We got one more left going right to it and it's some rookies to
- 49:09take a look at Errol. I'm going to just try to get a
- 49:12jump on the rest of sports media right now and tell you who you
- 49:15should be watching in Major League Baseball.
- 49:18Just coming into the league, there's two guys that have four
- 49:20home runs in three games, Jase the Lauder for the Guardians and
- 49:25Munateka Murakami the Japanese. Import.
- 49:30For the White Sox, then you got second baseman JJ Weatherholtz.
- 49:36For the Saint Louis Cardinals, he's already there lead off
- 49:38hitter. He looks awesome.
- 49:40And also speedy shortstopper second for Mcgonigal, shortstop
- 49:45Mcgonigal is everyone's been talking about.
- 49:48He was the guy that was the top guy coming into the league, into
- 49:52the the top prospect coming into the season.
- 49:54They all are guys to watch. Speedy was talking specifically
- 49:58about the Lauder as the guy he thought was going to be the top
- 50:01rookie this year. The Lauder looks like he's going
- 50:04to be special Murakami. He's got a wonderful name.
- 50:08Let me tell you. It's definitely it's right off
- 50:10the lips if you want to sound it out on that one.
- 50:13But MC Monaco, whatever mechanical it reminds me two of
- 50:17MC Monaco over there at WFAN. So I don't like him already.
- 50:21I don't like him because of his last name, but I I the Lauder
- 50:25sounds like sounds like a like Estee Lauder.
- 50:27So if if you like, if you like makeup, if you like makeup and
- 50:32you like the Lauder, go get yourself some Estee Lauder.
- 50:35What do you think, Speedy? I thought that's goody on that
- 50:37one, yeah. I think.
- 50:38He'll he's the expert on more of that stuff and on his prospects.
- 50:42Listen, we don't know what these guys are going to be and, and
- 50:44right now it's early. We have to see how the game
- 50:47picks up and it's early in the season.
- 50:49Pitching it takes, it takes a while for these pitchers to warm
- 50:52up and gets warmer. Once it gets warmer, we're going
- 50:54to see these pitchers really play at a high level.
- 50:57Then we'll see how these guys can hit the ball and how they
- 51:00can compete against these top rotational pitchers.
- 51:03I was mentioning the Lauder last year when you and I had a
- 51:05three-way call with Goody as like some of the Guardians
- 51:07prospects they could call up and I thought he was one of them
- 51:09that could have given a spark in the second-half of the season.
- 51:11Obviously before we knew that they were to be hot, as it was
- 51:13following the whole class of. Trot, right, speedy, hot to
- 51:15trot. I have no idea.
- 51:17Are you trotting Nathans department?
- 51:18Are you hanging, Nathans? Department, are you hanging?
- 51:20Nathan. I'm not talking about Nathan.
- 51:22Are you hanging? I don't know.
- 51:23Are you trotting from the from your ass to your nose down?
- 51:26No, no. All right.
- 51:27I'm just asking. Yeah, De la de Lauder always had
- 51:29that kind of raw power ability, especially in that big park.
- 51:32Somebody that something they definitely need to go along with
- 51:34Ramirez and I think the Kidman Zardo too, that I think I'll
- 51:36have a. Bigger.
- 51:36You want to hang out with the Lauder's daughter?
- 51:38No, All right. I'm just.
- 51:39Asking Weatherholt was one that had a lot of hype last year too.
- 51:42Him being a lead off spot already, me showing he could
- 51:45transition easily. Mcgonigal, I wasn't as high as
- 51:48the number one prospect as people thought, but again,
- 51:49another spark for the Tigers in that lineup.
- 51:51For a lot of veteran guys, a lot of younger in the infield.
- 51:54I think he's going to. Get I want you to roll that off
- 51:56your tongue. I want you to pronounce the
- 51:58Japanese kids name. Murakami, Murakami.
- 52:01Murakami. Murakami.
- 52:02No, no, no. I want a full name.
- 52:03Full name, full name. Good.
- 52:04See it full name. Minneteka.
- 52:06Minneteka Murakami. Say it three times in a second.
- 52:09Murakami, Minneteka Murakami. Minneteka Murakami.
- 52:11All right, I like that. And he's providing one of the
- 52:13few sparks that the White Sox in India throughout the year
- 52:15getting something to watch Marakami, something a reason to
- 52:17go to the ballpark outside of those giant shakes that they
- 52:19have. That's how it looks like.
- 52:20Like a sex move. Maracami.
- 52:22Who wants to do a maracami on me?
- 52:24I guess Speedy is drinking the Kool-aid on the Lauder.
- 52:28The Lauder's thought. Right, one of the best.
- 52:31If you win, voice of reason. Estee Lauder.
- 52:37Outside of you picky Arizona. Regardless, well, we'll see
- 52:40about that. We'll talk about more of that on
- 52:42Thursday, Speedy, as far as our final four picks, but just to
- 52:46finish this one up, you got these rookies, they're all high
- 52:48profile rookies. How hard is it as a high profile
- 52:51rookie to make an impact? Because everybody's looking at
- 52:54you come on, and you're the guy. Everyone heard your name all
- 52:58offseason. What's it like?
- 53:00Do you want to jerk me off? It's difficult, you know,
- 53:03because at the end of the day, you're stepping into a new
- 53:06arena. You're in the big leagues now,
- 53:07in the majors. You got to try to win the locker
- 53:09room, you got to win the guys on the team.
- 53:12You got to win the veterans, you got to win the coaches.
- 53:14Like it's so much. It's a lot that goes into, you
- 53:17know, being a successful rookie and sometimes talent ain't
- 53:19enough. So it's a lot of pressure that
- 53:21they go into each and every game.
- 53:22You got to prove yourself. You got to live up to the hype.
- 53:25Even if you know circumstances or conditions isn't organized
- 53:28around you, you know, it is that nature.
- 53:30So I believe this was one of those most difficult things for
- 53:33a Ricky, especially if you don't got a good fit in there in there
- 53:36that walk you through different things.
- 53:38Breaking news, I need Brittany also.
- 53:41All right, man, that is all for Inside Baseball.
- 53:45Well, there it is, ladies and gentlemen.
- 53:48You know, I I try to help Speedy out.
- 53:50I mean, Speedy, are you happy? Are you a happy young man?
- 53:52No, you're not happy. You're a mad person.
- 53:54You just hate the world. No, What?
- 53:56What? Why do you hate the world?
- 53:57So? I don't.
- 53:58Then what do you do? Like, Like, why don't you think
- 54:00about your stupid freaking shenanigans all the time?
- 54:05I listen, man, I I think you'd be a great catcher than a
- 54:10pitcher, wouldn't you think? Yeah, throw it back your head.
- 54:15Are you a pitcher? A catcher?
- 54:16What would? You whatever is easier for me to
- 54:18throw at your head. Pitcher.
- 54:19A catcher, whatever is easier for me to throw at your head if
- 54:22you're if you're hitting. Pick one or the other.
- 54:23If you're hitting a catcher. All right, so.
- 54:26If you're a first baseman, a pitcher.
- 54:30Oh man, pitchers and catchers, ladies and gentlemen, thank you
- 54:33to all the fans, everybody that listens to our show throughout

- 55:24Campbell is his name. Spread his sheets.
