- Micaiah: It is so good to be back, everybody. Welcome. Back, fourth in one podcast. It's Captain Born here for you, and I am so happy to be joined by my buddy, my dude Roberto. It is so good to have you. Thank you for being here, bud. We are, it is now June 2nd. We can smell college football. We are under 100 days, I believe. ninety and change, I think. Any idea? Roberto Con Queso: ⁓ yeah, it should be like n I don't know, maybe ninety you know, we're just gonna call it a casual ninety four. That's what we'll call it. Micaiah: Okay. All right. We'll call it casual ninety-four. It it will be here before we know it. ⁓ we are not the this is part of the college football season. I do love the off season where we can speculate and and things that we think are going to happen in the season turn out to be vastly wrong. And then things that we didn't even know or think of the possibilities, like Indiana winning that national championship. It happens and you're just like, This is this this is awesome. I let's start with a little bit of news for the listeners. Brendan Soresby. I think I did a podcast. He was he checked into rehab. He basically admitted he was gambling. He had a gambling addiction and checked into rehab. And I do wish him well ⁓ on that front. He re-implied that is an automatic no-no in the N N CAA, just like it is in baseball and football and basketball. And he reapplied for reinstatement because obviously the NCAA kicked him out, re applied for reinstatement, was denied, went to a judge. I haven't seen anything about that. Have you seen anything whether or not the like the circuit court judge approved? Roberto Con Queso: No, I haven't really seen anything about it, which makes me kinda wonder if they're just like in the process of maybe working out a deal. Micaiah: It's set on three says it's set for Monday. At 9 a.m. Central. So that was yesterday. This is Tuesday, the second of ⁓ June, whatever month it is. So I don't know that he so the NCAA rejected him. The jud he's basically filing for an injunction. As this is what all the athletes do right now. They file for an injunction when the NCAA creates a rule that they don't like. Originally it was It was a judge who had a picture of him in the Texas Tech mascot doing the guns up pose. ⁓ well, they got rid of that judge and then kind of got more of a partial judge. So we are still waiting to hear the ruling of that. Well, you're my thought is he should be gone. Is is that your thought as well? Like his college career is over. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, you know, we we kinda had a conversation about this before with gambling, and it's not like he gambled on an FCS school that had nothing to do with anything going on. He wasn't gambling on North Dakota State, South Dakota, Montana, teams like that. He was gambling on his own team and his own players, his own teammates. So I mean, essentially you have insider information on everything that would be going on with the team. It's not a good look by any means, but yeah, like it's the NCAA has to set they have to set a tone and the judges have to set a tone that says, Listen, just because you don't agree with the NCAA doesn't mean you can just come crying to us and we'll bail you out like they have time and time and time again. Micaiah: In every other sports league, as well, this is an automatic done. I mean, basketball just had what a federal case year and a half, two years ago now? Or was that a yeah, you know, whenever that was. ⁓ with coaches and players, they're done. Pete Rose was banished from the hall of fame for for this very thing. ⁓ football, you you're suspended if you gamble in. Roberto Con Queso: Mm. Yeah. Yeah. Micaiah: In the facility, and then if they find out that you're gambling on NFL teams, you're done. ⁓ Jamison Williams, the only reason he's not done in the NFL was because he gambled in the Lions facility, but it wasn't on NFL football, right? So Soresby over four years, ninety thousand dollars. ⁓ continue to gamble on ⁓ this is from ESPN, this is from Mac. Max Olson. ⁓ continuing to gamble on professional sports this year after transferring from Cincinnati to Texas Tech, according to a four list ⁓ page that ⁓ Soresby and Texas Tech submitted to the NCAA, acknowledg acknowledging his actions. Sorsby placed at least 40 bets involving Indiana football. Rob this to your point, ⁓ totaling more than 1400 while he was a quarterback for the Hoos. I'm with you. I there's gotta be a line drawn in the sand somewhere. And the NCAA, for once, I agree with the NCAA. I I like this line. You have to have some sort of what's the word I'm looking for? Like integrity, right? The sport needs integrity. If if you're going to allow these kids to claim mental health, then and get away with it. Which it is a mental health thing, but like if that if they're going to gamble, claim mental health and a judge is gonna be like, Yeah, that it's mental health, they're fine. Like that's that's unbelievable. Like that that can't happen. Now the integ the all the integrity left in college football is just gone. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, if you if they don't do anything and a federal and the judges come out and they say, Nope, he's good to go, then it's what is stopping any game from being fixed, whether it be Vegas, anybody, you know, cause then it's it's like, well, this guy did it for ninety thousand dollars and had all these prop bets. Why can't I do this? Like why why would I be penalized because then you're just gonna have this revolving cycle of well this guy didn't get in trouble so I can do it and it's just gonna be passed on to the next person, next person, next person. Eventually someone is going to get hammered real hard and it's gonna be someone who probably shouldn't. Micaiah: Yeah. I i if they don't take action now. I'm I'm and especially with ⁓ I just had this thought with like the ⁓ the future market bets, you know, the culture and the poly markets, I think that's really dangerous because if you transfer, like if these kids transfer and no to a new school and they just get a feeling in camp that they're gonna have a really good year and they, you know, have someone else place the bet, like that. They're gonna throw for a bunch of yards or throw for a bunch of touchdowns, or maybe they transfer and they know they're not gonna be able to do anything. So they take the unders. That's just that's very problematic because now let's say they're they need two touchdowns, right? And they need two passing touchdowns to hit the over, but they bet the under at the beginning of the season. They check out of that and, you know, again, go to a run, you know, maybe throw an interception, you know. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Micaiah: Who knows? It i it's a vi it's a very dangerous precedent to set. Paul Feinbaum, his opinion is that the NCAA should not ban him for the year, just like three to six games, and I completely disagree with that. There's a lot of things I disagree with Paul Feinbaum, but that's one of ⁓ Roberto Con Queso: Well, now the difference would be is if Soresby was playing for Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, or any Big Ten school, then Paul Feinbaum would like, You need to throw the book at them. ⁓ the college needs to burn. ⁓ their their children's future children should never be able to see the light of day. I mean, even if they were an SEC school, he'd be like, We actually need to give them the money. Micaiah: Mm. Yeah, yeah, right. Roberto Con Queso: They don't even have to bet, we'll just give them the money and it'll be okay. Micaiah: Right. Yeah. It it it's fine. Everything everything's fine. Paul Feinbaum is an SEC homer. ⁓ your boy ⁓ quick sidetrack. Your boy Nick Herbert big, speaking of Big Ten, edge rusher from Wisconsin, just signed a four year hundred million dollar extension, forty two million dick guaranteed. So they are in one day after Miles Garrett get out of there. I guess the Steelers now have the best pass rushing in that conference, right? Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. No big deal. I don't know if he's worth that. I mean, you know how I feel like in in general, I always think that TJ Watt is just better than Miles Garrett as it is. But y I mean yeah, I mean Miles Garrett's good, but let's let's be honest. TJ Watt's just a better dude. Micaiah: I agree with you, by the way. I want that on record. I agree with you there. He he is well, he had the sack record, right? Until Miles Garrett broke it. Roberto Con Queso: I don't think I don't know if he ever got it. I think he just tied it because it I think it was something goofy where or it might have been with Miles where like one of the sacks like didn't count but it should have counted or counted but it shouldn't have. I don't know. The sack records are c like they don't really make sense because trying to define a sack in the NFL is like trying to define what a catches. Micaiah: Or did he just tie it? Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: Like if the quarterback if the quarterback takes like one step forward, it's like, No, he's running and it's like, Well, that's kinda stupid. Micaiah: ⁓ TJ Watt tied it. He him and Michael Strahan each had 22 and a half, and now Miles Garrett has 23 to answer the question. ⁓ so Steelers, obviously, they ⁓ they definitely have the best tandem. I don't I don't know that the Ravens have anyone. The Steel the Bengals are a joke, and the Browns equally a Roberto Con Queso: Ravens have ⁓ Micaiah: Do they have Hendrickson? Roberto Con Queso: Or n was yeah, because the controversy back before yeah. Micaiah: ⁓ the Mac Crosby thing. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, okay. I I remember that. All right. So Palm Fine Bomb, S C C Homer, we covered that. ⁓ Something else the SEC did, and I really want your opinion on this, is at the meetings recently Who was it? It was Kirby Smart and then the president for Georgia basically came out and especially the president at Georgia threatened that maybe the SEC should leave the college football playoff and make their own rules and play by their own rules. In more than one way, in both like transfer portal and salary cap and as as well as to set their own playoff and things like that. Completely, completely asinine for Georgia to be saying that. I don't know why Georgia is saying this. The other Kirby's always like, set rules, set rules, and we'll follow them. The coaches just want rules. Since when in college athletics has anyone followed rules and w and been black and white, you know? Roberto Con Queso: Well here we go, you know, big rules, rules, rules, but the number one rule that no Georgia football player can ever do is keep that car under the speed limit. Whether they're there now or they've been in the NFL for a couple of years, so Micaiah: Yeah, it it really is cre and it I'm sure it happens at other schools, right? But not to this extent. This has been ten years of this. Yeah. This has been ten years of Georgia players and former Georgia players getting arrested going well over a hundred miles an hour in a speed limit zone nowhere close to how fast they were going. Roberto Con Queso: It the the spotlight's just on them. Yeah. ⁓ yeah, they're like forty to fifty miles per hour faster, which and I don't know if laws in Georgia are the same as laws in like traffic laws. Like at what point does it become there's a certain speed limit like gap where it becomes like racing. And then it carries like a bigger charge. I've never seen a school have more charges against them when it comes to traffic violations. Micaiah: ⁓ right, right. I see what you're saying. Roberto Con Queso: But nothing ever happens to these guys. Like, do they do they just keep getting bailed out? Like what's going on? Micaiah: Yeah, or the Yeah, I mean, I am hopeful that it's like a probation or community service and a massive fine sort of deal. Or in law cell, I would assume you at the very least they're losing their license. ⁓ my goodness, you would think so, dude. You would think so. I know that Jalen Carter, he when he ⁓ back at Georgia, like he had to do community service and probation. I mean, and he Roberto Con Queso: Gotta lose your license, right? Like Well, his was hi his was a little different though. His was the one that ended up killing someone, didn't it? So it's Yeah, so I mean that's a d I guess a little different of a situation because there was a death involved, but Still, he didn't really get like you know, it was probation, but like Micaiah: Correct. The person he was ra racing died. But I mean No no jail time. Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: Like yeah, it was like just the weirdest stuff. Obviously I do not have a law degree. So it's like I'm not going to sit here and try and act like I do. So I just you know, you're just I'm just trying to put one and three together to make two, you know? Micaiah: Right. Yeah, right. This is a ⁓ this is a podcast on the internet, Robert. You can just say wild stuff. Like Yeah, law school for dummies, one and three make two. That that that that's it. ⁓ Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Yeah, this is a law school for dummies right now. Micaiah: 2014 play out, kind of rolling into that. SEC and the SEC, like Sark is like 12 is a terrible number. We need to I'm I'm in favor of 1624, and I'm also in favor of going back to four. But twelve is just a ridiculous number because Notre Dame gets a spot and and ⁓ the group of five gets a spot. So really you're just at 10 stop aligning. Everyone just need like The coaches think that making the playoff is going to save save their job. And it will at first, right? If they expand to 1624, is what I'm saying. But eventually, you see it in the NFL, you see it in NBA, MLB. I mean, what? The Phillies just made the playoffs last year and fired their coach, what, 50 games into the season this year? Right? Basketball teams do it all the time. You first round exits, fire, gone. So eventually. Roberto Con Queso: Yep. Love it. Hockey, Vegas Knights. They literally ⁓ f they f ⁓ canned can I think it's their coach. They canned him and now they're in the Stanley Cup finals. Micaiah: Right. Like mid s they did that mid season, I'm asking. Okay. So right. So like so what like eventually it will come back and like bite you in the butt. Everyone thinks the playoff is their savior and it and it's not. And Sark can just go suck a giant egg. He's taking shots at Texas Tech. He said his twos could be ⁓ Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Yeah. Roundabout. Micaiah: could go undefeated in Texas Tech's schedule. And now Texas Tech is trying to get a week one matchup. That would be electric electric. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, I like that ⁓ Texas Tech also said we'll not only pay for Tech who I think Texas plays Texas State. So they would pay Texas State's buyout, but they would also pay I want to say Abilene Christian is who Texas Tech is playing, but they'll pay their buyout as well. So they would literally cover everything if Texas just nuts up and says, Yeah, we'll pull we'll face you. Yeah. Micaiah: Fine, right, right. And the Texas Tech should really dig their heels in and be Well, even come to Austin. Roberto Con Queso: ⁓ yeah. Like we'll come to Austin, we'll play whenever you wanna play. You wanna play on a Friday night, dog, ch chink, come on, I'll pay y I'll pay. Micaiah: Yeah. Well Friday. It's funny you mentioned Friday night. The ⁓ there's a I think there's a Utah Texas Tech matchup. I could be wrong with the two ma but Texas Tech is involved, where the president of Texas Tech is mad that they are playing on a Friday night. He thinks the games belong on Saturday, so he's he he's all angry. But yeah, I I'm I'm in agreement. Like Tex like Sark Kirby, stop talking. You guys are right now the top dogs and probably the favorites in the SEC, if not for the national championship this year. There might be a few teams over you. I don't have the betting odds on me, but you you need to stop talking and crying foul just because things haven't gone your way in previous seasons. It's kind of ridiculous. Roberto Con Queso: Well, that's when it goes back to how they want to succeed from the NCAA. And it's like I mean, you can say the SEC wants to succeed like succeed, but it's really only Georgia and Alabama that have carried the load for the SEC. You could go and say, ⁓ well, from top to bottom, they're, you know, so dominant. It's like that's fine. But who's winning your national championship? 'Cause at the end of the year, like ⁓ what was Ole Miss's record last year and where did they finish in the top twenty five? I'll I'll answer for you. I don't know. Micaiah: Shoot. Roberto Con Queso: That's what like no one cares teams two through how many teams are in the SEC? Doesn't matter because you only care about the team that that's the winner. So unless you're just dominant year after year after year, and it's this year's Alabama, then Georgia, then LSU, then Florida, to where literally five of six of your teams are winning the national championship, to say you're good enough to just leave everything. Micaiah: Eight Yeah, yeah. Roberto Con Queso: Because I mean the NCA could also turn around and be like, okay, if you want to leave, go for it, but you can't play anybody. You cannot play an NCAA sanctioned team. You have to play yourselves. Have a good day. Now, of course, like the Big Ten would be like, ⁓ well, we're the Big Ten. Now we're gonna leave. Q, same argument ⁓ for the SEC back to the Big Ten. If it's not, you know, Penn say it's that they had a fall off, they're looking to rebound, but like. Oregon, USC hasn't, they're not really that great. Michigan had a national championship. Now we fell off. Ohio State's the only really through year in year consistent team minus Purdue in Northwestern, who are just historically bad. So those are those are the other constants. But yeah, I it's just a whole conference leaving makes no sense. If you would say, hey, we're in agreement with Texas. Ohio State, Michigan, Oregon, like your top twenty five historically real decently good teams. If those are the ones that leave, that's totally different. Cause it each of them kind of is like earned that spot to say like they're one of the better teams. Micaiah: The SEC really have they not really pumped themselves up on Nick Saban? Like let's l Roberto Con Queso: ⁓ yeah. Well Alabama just i in general. Like if it Micaiah: Like if you take Alabama outta there, college football is whoever's to own, you know? Like like only a few times was it SEC versus SEC for the national championship game. Roberto Con Queso: Rap. Yeah, like Georgia was Georgia's dominant for those two years, but historically has not been good. LS LS LSU's been pretty good. They've been pretty consistent until they hired Brian Kelly and then they just kind of fell off. They messed up on getting rid of Ed O'Gron, but he's back now. He's back. ⁓ Auburn had what one to two good years, and that was only because of Cam Newton. Micaiah: Right, national championship level, yeah. And now he's back, baby. And now he's back. Go attack us. Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: And then you'd have to go all the way back to like Bo Jackson, Florida, Tim Tebow, and Urban Meyer, that's kind of other than that, like it was like early two thousands. So I mean, the only one that can really hang their hat and say they have been the backbone of the SEC and so so dominant that we'll probably never see it again is Alabama. Micaiah: Yeah. Urban mire urban mire. That's it. I I would make the argument that Alabama is kind of the backbone of college football, right? Like they gave people something to hate, and they gave multiple fan bases something to cheer for, right? Like they college football works because there is much like WWE WrestleMania as you're wearing, there's a heel and a baby face. And you can have multiple heels and multiple baby faces, but Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Micaiah: Alabama was that ultimate heel that people just had to tune in because you wanted to see them either lose or you wanted to see greatness and you wanted to see it win, right? It the New England Patriots style. So the fact that the SEC is just up on their high horse right now, thinking that they would be better off as a conference is just crazy. Money-wise, it's probably it'll probably even itself out. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, I mean if you're Mississippi State, you're sitting in the background going, Yeah, we're the SEC. Yeah, like fear us and it's like the maybe they you know, what when Dak was there, th they were g like good. Micaiah: Now I'm in Kentucky. Two thousand fourteen baby. Magical year. Roberto Con Queso: But like I mean, I d I can't even tell you another year where they were remotely good. Micaiah: Yeah, I I So ⁓ w your overall opinion on twenty fourteen playoffs. Roberto Con Queso: ⁓ how many are in the FCS playoff? That's ⁓ what I like. Cause I like I d I think the FCS model, they have it down so pat and it works. Cauld there's no one on this earth that could tell me that a twenty fourteen playoff doesn't work because the FCS does it year in, year out, and it's great. And you know why? Because they get rid of all the garbage bowl games. Micaiah: Twenty four. Okay. Roberto Con Queso: Not every company on earth needs a name in a bowl game. Micaiah: А ю I'm looking this up. So you get 10 automatic qualifiers conference chain. This is S FCS. You get 10 automatic qualifiers. Do you want that for FBS as well? Roberto Con Queso: I mean in theory, I would not I don't think anyone should have a guarantee in. Cause then you just it's you know, you're saying to yourself, okay, we just need to not every game matters then. Cause then if if if you want to like if you well, okay, so if you if I don't want automatic qualifiers, then every game matters, not just the conference championship. Micaiah: Well, you have to win your conference, so you gotta have a pretty good conference record, right? Roberto Con Queso: I think I was backwards, but now I So like just that way, okay, if Alabama's number one and for argument's sake, Georgia's ten. Micaiah: Mm. Okay. Mm-hmm. Roberto Con Queso: Alabama wins, or no, Georgia wins. So they would go in and say they would be like the number four spot now, and Alabama has to go back to six. And I'd be like, No, we're just gonna go like, congratulations, you won the championship, but you might move up to five or four and Bama moves back to three, like Bama would be three, Georgia would be four. I don't think just because you win the the conference championship, it should put you higher than what you really would be in the rankings. Micaiah: I'm okay with automatic qualifiers. As long as everyone gets a fair shake. I think there are 10 or 11 FBF, FBS conferences. I want every conference champion, whether you do a conference championship game or whether you do it just how the Big Ten used to do it, where best conference record at the end of the year, right? I I don't really care how you decide the champion, however you want to do that. Roberto Con Queso: Right. Micaiah: But I want conference champion for every single conference in and then give me my automatic qualifiers. Paul Feinbaum screaming, he'll he'll never listen to the podcast, but he's his ears are probably picking up what I'm saying right now. ⁓ that and and just he's screaming to himself now that the little schools don't belong there. And and it's terrible. And in that's a terrible opinion to have. Because there is a precious ecosystem within college football, and it would still make money. It would still get viewerships. You know how I know that? Because you live in the United States of America, and everyone here loves football. Listen, the UFL does numbers. I'm not talking like crazy numbers, but the UFL does numbers, and that's on Friday and Saturday, and that's semi pro football. It's fully pro football, but you know what I'm saying. It's a it's a step down. So yeah, give me now. Roberto Con Queso: Right. Micaiah: I don't want you win your conference championship and you get an automatic buy or something like that, as it is right now. I'm with you. If Kennesaw State's 25 and they win their conference championship, right? But it's a it's a walk, they need a walk-off field goal over a 7-5 team and they're 10-2, put them at 24. That's fine. I'm good with that. Make them go on the road. Yeah, the Big Ten wants. 24 because they want two on campus weekends. The first two weekends they want on campus. If you're not gonna do 10 automatic, 11 automatic qualifiers, if you're not gonna do it the FCS model, then leave it at 12 and do on campus, do two weekends of on campus, which then goes to Robert's favorite argument, where he wants to get rid of these bowl games in the playoff. And I'm all for that. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, even if we would do twelve, twenty-four, whatever. I would just the entire playoffs. We run it like the NFL. The only neutral site game is the championship. Micaiah: So you want them all on campus. Roberto Con Queso: I would want them all the way. And then the national championship, that's where you say, okay, this year it's the Rose Bowl. This year, it's the sugar bowl. And you rotate the big bowl as your national champion. Because it's I just think it's stupid that you're gonna go to the Rose Bowl, win the Rose Bowl, get the Rose Bowl champion trophy, and then next week go to the national championship. And then you've winning that sh now you have two trophies. It it kind of just devalues the Rose Bowl. Like the Rose Bowl, y you know, like for how much pageantry, like, you know, you and you and Simeon love the bull love the the pageantry and the lore of the Rose Bowl, but it means nothing because it's not a national championship. The it's a it's a second rate bowl game now. Like that's what it is. Because they Micaiah: The bowl game, i for sure. Yeah. Yeah, you're right. Roberto Con Queso: You know, and i whether it's money or viewership, whatever, but you can easily make way more money and get way more viewership if you're like, here's the Rose Bowl game. Hasn't been played in four years or three years, however they would want to work it, and it's, you know, Texas and Georgia for the Rose Bowl national championship. You want to give them two trophies then, give two trophies then. I don't care. But you build up these bowl games again. Micaiah: Right. ⁓ I I agree with you. You you I tell my wife this all the time. We have just too much access to stuff, just in general, as a society, we have too much access to stuff. But that goes to the point of the Rose Bowl, the the bowl games right now are just too easy to come by. Everybody gets a bowl game. Now, if they would go to an expanded playoff, I I read somewhere that now Some bowl games are gonna have to accept five and seven teams. So now teams even with not not winning records are gonna get to go to bowl games. What what are we doing? We have turned into participation trophies now. Roberto Con Queso: She it she's dumb. If you are six and six, you do not deserve to go to a bowl game. Congratulations. You are an average football team. You did the most amount of work to get the absolute bare minimum. You showed up, and we're gonna reward you. Like, just and half the time, these bowl games that happen like December 26, 24, whatever, are the nicer ones because they're going to like Aruba. Micaiah: No, it's not. Yes. The bear man. Yeah, to get there. Yeah. Right. Roberto Con Queso: And the Dominican, and it's like, you know, meanwhile some schmuck is in the pinstripe bowl and it's seven degrees. And I'm like, it doesn't make any sense. Micaiah: Yeah. Yeah. In front of three hundred fans or the Finway Park, you know, the Finway Bowl, you know, and and there's and it's rain it's always raining at the Finway Bowl and muddy and and it just looks terrible. Or they're in Tampa, like Michigan and Alabama a few years ago played in Tampa, I think, and it was pouring down rain and it just was not a good visual ⁓ for television and they always put ⁓ but anyway, so Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. In the ⁓ yeah, in the monsoon. Micaiah: I'm in agreement. This is one thing we do agree on. I've come around. By the way, Simeon has predicted that they would go to 24. He's predicted this whole conferences will break away, ⁓ semi pro level. So I gotta get he did this like four years ago. This all four years ago. So I gotta give him a huge shout out. He's gonna try to be on more ⁓ this podcast, but we will see. He's he started a new job, you know, he's got a family, he's got a house. He's got responsibilities. ⁓ so he is just navigating. So it will be a treat for us when he comes through, and we very much look forward to that. ⁓ there is a bipartisan college bill. Speaking of rules, everyone wants rules until people have to abide by them in college football, and then no one wants to do that, and everyone cries foul. So there's a bipartisan college bill. I want to get your opinion on this, ⁓ introduced ⁓ That would limit athletes transferring to one school without penalty, limiting the eligibility of athletes to a maximum of five years from the time they graduate high school or their 19th birthday, prohibiting former professional athletes from playing college foot from playing in college. So this goes not only in college football, but c this is a big thing in college basketball right now. And prohibiting schools from poaching a coach from another school. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Micaiah: during the school sport season. So you wouldn't get the Lane Kiffin situation, most notably. Roberto Con Queso: Almost like we came up with rules 10 years ago that you just kinda you you lived and died with for so long, and then you introduced money into a system, and then you're like, we don't know what these rules mean anymore. Let's go and have Congress talk about these rules. Or let's go and talk to whoever about these rules. And it's like, yeah, these are these are simple things. Like, yeah, you shouldn't be poaching coaches. But it's happening. So, like, yeah, the this some of these things do need to happen. You know, I would like them to also work in a little bit more restrictions with the old NIL. But, you know, I digress. You know, maybe throw in a little bit more with the old gambling, maybe some cut and dry s rules like, hey, you gamble, you're done, regardless of the The thing, or you know, make it levels, one, two, and three. You know, simple stuff. We like numbers, we like colors, we like pictures. Just make it simple and make it cut and dry. There's no, well, you did this, but not this, so ⁓ maybe. No. Just cut and dry, get it over with, and it shouldn't be a hard thing to do. Micaiah: Yeah. And they're gonna have to penalize the programs, not the players. The players will take you to court. The programs, as of now, will not. Roberto Con Queso: Right. Right. Micaiah: ⁓ it also would Give more of a backbone to the College Sports Commission, who's in charge of all NIL deals right now. How so every school has a $20 million salary cap limit, right? But you are seeing how you get around that is the college can only take 20 million of their TV revenue and give it to the players. And then What teams are doing is they're going out and they're saying, Joe Schmo automotive, why don't you come in and the star quarterback will do a commercial or two for you? And then you give him $25,000, right? And so that's how they're supplementing these these kids in income, essentially, and what they're promised. The College Sports Commission is in charge of approving that or not. That's just a fun fact for everyone. Robert already knows this, so he's sleeping currently. What this What this aims to do is put a salary cap on that and more restrictions, Robert, of what you want of and these NIL deals also can't be you can't come in and agree to pay a kid two million. All that two million is counted towards that $20 million. That's what essentially they want to do. And if they want to raise that salary cap, then they need to go back and collectively bargain it. But therein lies the problem of something I'm not ready to talk on or fix, which is who's gonna represent the players, right? Because now we're employees, we're doing everything. We haven't been student athletes for quite some time. So let's stop throwing that around. However, a college education is a great thing to have because not everyone's gonna go pro. You have something to fall back on. You will there are plenty of people in the world that have made way more money not playing professional sports than there are. Roberto Con Queso: That's for sure. Yes. Micaiah: Who played professional sports, right? Right. ⁓ I'm happy the government get I'm happy that someone's getting involved. I would prefer it not to be the government because of it's the government, but I I'm happy that someone is doing something. The SEC is finally cutting. mid season cupcakes starting in twenty twenty seven. About time. Roberto Con Queso: I can't wait to not watch Alabama play Mercer, baby. Like if they if they, you know, going and playing, because what Big Ten does nine conference? Right, and the SEC was running eight. And now they run nine. You run nine, you get rid of Mercer and Presbyterian and all those other schools. You know, and it is kind of a bummer for those schools because those schools do lose some money. But Micaiah: And now they're running nine and they're bitching over that. Roberto Con Queso: I would rather lose money than lose sixty four to nothing on the SEC network. Micaiah: Yeah, e put put your put your cupcakes at the beginning, like everybody else, or I I'm in big favor of this. Use your cupcakes as your spring game. Go pay Mercer to come down to Tuscaloosa and play. Yes, I I get it, it will be not a real football game because your backups and you know it will still be a spring game. But Mercer's gonna do that too, right? Roberto Con Queso: Well, and I feel like you would kinda want like if you do if you do run that route, that would probably actually be better for your backups because they're getting especially your freshmen, they're getting that it's not real game time experience, but you're getting that feel and that flow of everything. ⁓ you know, you're just gonna have Kirby Smart and them complaining that, ⁓ well, our players can get her and everything like that, and it's like Your player can get hurt when they get roll out of bed and stub their big toe, or when they go and they jump in their car to do seventy five and a twenty five. Either way, you didn't care then. Why would you care now? But okay. Micaiah: There it is. There it is. And Mercer's gonna think the same thing, right? Like Mercer doesn't want their football player, their athletes, because they have their own conference, they have their own much better playoff system to take care of. So they too, if they're coming for the money, they too, their coaches too. Like there will be agreements where it will they will go, hey, we're not touching the quarterback today. Both coaches will get together and agree on that. Hey. Can we not tackle my running back? Can we just do wrap up the running back? Can we just do you know, shoulders only? Like, yeah. Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, there's many, there's different ways for them to do it. You know, they they just wanna, you know, you can run seven on sevens and it's like, and guess what? You can sell tickets. Sell tickets at a discounted rate because if you can it's also gonna help the players too, if you can pack a stadium. Now it's not gonna be as electric as if you're playing Tennessee, LSU, Georgia, whatever, but Micaiah: ⁓ yeah. Obviously, right. Roberto Con Queso: A lot of kids coming out of high school, unless you live in Texas, Florida, or California, you're coming from a stadium that fits maybe 2,000. Maybe a little more. Pennsylvania's weird. They have like no bleachers on some, but ⁓ into the big house for 110,000, Beaver Stadium for 108,000. Like that's a giant difference. Like so, yeah, your starters don't have to play. Micaiah: Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: They can go out there and do the seven on seven stuff, whatever, but it would be good experience and time for your freshmen and your second string guys that'll maybe not get as much playing time during the season. Micaiah: For for sure. I'm in agreement. This coming season, November 21st, Alabama will host Chattanooga and Auburn will host Samford before facing each other the following week. Ole Miss will hold host Wafford and Mississippi State will host Tennessee Tech. It also is for a momentum during the season thing as a college football fan. It's a big bummer because you tend to get these. Great games kind of late in the season and then the next week, ⁓ who's Alabama playing this week? ⁓ yeah, Chattanooga. It it's it it gives you an in in a season that is so jam-packed with such great moments, the entire season is one big deep breath. And then I feel like when it comes to these cupcakes at the end of the season, it's like you let out the air, and now for the last week of the season rivalry, you gotta suck in that and you gotta do it faster. That's just an analogy I'm using. ⁓ also pause. ⁓ so I I'm I'm glad 2027 I'm glad 2026 will be the last year of that ⁓ in 2027 moving forward. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. They'll they'll just move it up a week. Micaiah: ⁓ yeah, something like that. Yeah. Put her at week six, you know. Roberto Con Queso: They're just be like, you know what? Actually we like it, so we're actually just gonna move it up a couple of weeks. We're gonna play Wafford before we play Florida now instead of Georgia. So I mean it's fine. Micaiah: Right. Right. there again, no one's gonna follow the rules. Right. Right. Roberto Con Queso: Yep, yep. But we'll pat we'll pound our chest and say rules, rules, rules. Micaiah: ⁓ we we need ⁓ We'll follow No, you won't. But that but can someone just be self aware enough to be like, it doesn't matter because no one's gonna follow these rules anyway, right? Anyway. old man rant here in a little bit. Two things. Please feel free to jump in as well. Michigan's week one kickoff game against whoever they're playing. I don't even know. ⁓ Western Michigan. That sounds right. Roberto Con Queso: West is that Western? Maybe, I don't know. 'Cause they were supposed to play it in Germany. Remember? Micaiah: Yes, I do. Yes, that you are correct. ⁓ and I'm glad that they're not. They are playing seven thirty NBC week one. Big ten, SEC, you know, they're always in rhymeries. Another week one matchup, the night matchup on ABC will be Clemson LSU. W why are we putting Michigan versus I respect Western. I really do. I respect the Mac. I love it. It's Tuesday night, Wednesday night, just thrill fest through and through. But why are we putting them at seven thirty? I know Michigan will get you numbers, but what are we doing? ⁓ Please. Roberto Con Queso: So I think the main reason behind it is because Oklahoma's a noon game. The next week is a noon game. Cause last year that was a night game. Remember? So I wonder if because they I feel like Michigan always tries to do a night game within those first three weeks before conference play starts. And since Fox doesn't like Big Ten schools playing big games after Micaiah: Okay. Right. 'Cause Roberto Con Queso: 12. They usu yeah, so they make the big game for the big noon kickoff. So then they had to choose between Western and UTEP and the Micaiah: After twelve fifteen. Roberto Con Queso: Better would be Western, I would say, right? That's that's what I would say. I think that has to be the rationale behind it, just because it's not like Michigan plays night games all too too often at home. Micaiah: I I mean yes, I I agree with you there. The the the better Right. A little more now because because the they the yeah, because the the conference is so big and the network and who owns the Big Ten is kind of spread out between three networks, there's more opportunity to play at night. I still think there is a Washington State, there's the Apple Cup week one. I'm so glad they're playing that. Between Washington State and Washington, put that Saturday night. Roberto Con Queso: It only took thirty thousand years. Micaiah: Right? That that they're playing Sunday afternoon at 730. And then NBC is again going head to head with the SEC on Sunday. I just saw this. Well, this is actually technically Notre Dame. It's Wisconsin, Notre Dame at 7:30 with Louisville Ole Miss. I mean, what are we doing? There's enough time slots to go around. Why are we doubling up good games? That that's Sunday. Michigan and Western is not. Roberto Con Queso: I was like, wait, hold on, what's going on? I was like looking, I'm looking I don't see this game. Where is this game at? Yeah. Micaiah: ⁓ yeah, that I'm sorry, that's on Sunday. I I did digress I scrolled down. I I I'm just granted the Big Ten, I looked over the week one slate, it's not great at all. ⁓ Ohio State's playing ball state, which arguably is the same so they're giving ⁓ they're putting that on Big Ten network at twelve thirty. But no, I agree with you, but it's the same level of matchup as Michigan. Roberto Con Queso: What sort of deserves it to be? I'm actually more surpr like they didn't throw Oregon Boise State at the ten o'clock or not the ten o'clock, the seven thirty slot. That's on CBS though. ⁓ Penn State Marshall probably it that could be a good game. ⁓ what other Big Ten ones we got? Micaiah: You're right. Yeah. But but you have to you have to remember CBS, NBC, and Fox own the Big Ten. So really you have you have to look at it. I and I don't know, I don't know how it works. I would assume that networks get dibs. Like I would assume that from what my understanding, it's like okay, you know, Fox, week one, what game do you want? And then Fox picks their game, and then it's CBS, what you know, you know, and then the next week it's okay, NBC, what game do you want? You know, I would assume that's how it works, but I don't know. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, 'cause the big other big ten other big ten game on Fox is Indiana, North Texas. Which would have been good if North Texas didn't lose their entire offense. Correct. Micaiah: I what game is to Oklahoma State. By the way, that line is minus forty and a half. Roberto Con Queso: Boston College Cincinnati forty and a half, that's a lot. Boston College Cincinnati's at three thirty on Fox. That actually could not be too terrible. Not great. Micaiah: That's lot. There there are definitely some gems. I think that Boise State at Oregon game that could be nice. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, you know. I mean that's we're gonna find out a lot about Oregon at least. I mean Boise State's Boise State at this point. We're kinda finding out that Ashton Genty was the glue holding them together. Micaiah: Yeah, yeah, for sure. ⁓ all right, let's let's roll into this fun exercise. Yeah, go ahead. Yeah, yeah, Roberto Con Queso: I guess the here's a big question for you then. So if tech wait, what is ⁓ Find Me Texas, what network are they gonna be on week one? Yes. Cause I found Texas Tech. Micaiah: In week one? Yeah, sure, let me find them. They are playing Texas State three thirty ESPN on Saturday. Roberto Con Queso: So if Texas says, Okay, we'll play Texas Tech, Texas Tech plays at seven on FS one. Who then then starts the big argument. Who gets the game? What time? You know I mean? Like that's where I think it. Micaiah: It it it would depend on the home team, 'cause the home team dictates who the network's right to air. Roberto Con Queso: S how would you determine that then? Because they're both technically home because they're both playing not good teams. In theory, they're not good. I'll just Micaiah: Right, as of right now. So so one of one of them would have to concede that. Cause even Roberto Con Queso: Either that or they would have to sign an agreement that they would play each other again next year. It is as an opposite. Yeah. Micaiah: Right. As a home and home. Which which that's going I feel like that's home and homes against good teams are going by the wayside because of your national champion being Indiana. And previous Ohio State and previous Michigan. What they did is they played cupcakes in non con and then ran through their conference schedule. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Yeah. And then just beat everybody else, but Micaiah: And then and and then and then beat everybody else. Right. Yeah. ⁓ I'm also one more thing. I'm also like everyone's like, this goes for the NFL too, I think. And I think I'm more mad at the NFL than I am NCAA, but like their whole like revealing their schedule, and everyone's like, ⁓ their schedule's ⁓ their schedule's ⁓ so difficult and their schedule's so de like. Roberto Con Queso: Okay. Micaiah: You don't know what's coming around the ben. And this will lead into our game here. Penn State had a very easy schedule last year. And it only got easier when UCLA fell off the face of the map early in the season. And what happened? Franklin's fired halfway through. Aller breaks his ankle and is done. Right? Like, Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Yeah. Micaiah: Stop like just assuming that everyone's schedule is either gonna be super tough and difficult, right? That's Florida and Auburn's schedule right now. Super tough and difficult. Or super easy. It's a fun exercise, but let's just not let's not take it as gospel. rolls into let's do play a fun exercise, which is what team? Has the possibility to be Penn State Clemson. What I mean by that is they are set up to make a national title run on paper. As fans, we are looking at them like we looked at Clemson, Penn State last year, right? People were picking Penn State as playoff winner. People were picking Clemson as an easy walkthrough to college football playoff. What happened? Both fell off the map. So what teams highly touted going into the season on paper have the biggest chance? To be just boss in the season. Okay. Roberto Con Queso: Texas number one. Texas, I feel like, is an easy one just because it's kinda how we felt last year. You know, Texas was supposed to kind of run the house, and then we found that Arch couldn't throw a five yard out in week one. And it kinda really didn't get it didn't get too much better, and then he beat Michigan he then he decided he was going to be the manning quarterback that he was and beat Michigan in a bowl game. But I kind of feel like it's the same scenario where Micaiah: First play of the game. Roberto Con Queso: Back to saying, well, Arch could be a Heisman finalist this year, Texas could be back, Texas, Texas, Texas, gonna win the SEC probably. Wouldn't be a shocker if they don't. Micaiah: Yeah, especially with how they finished, especially, you know, like as you said, they finished really well, but there were games where they got I rem they played Kentucky. Kentucky had like 400 yards of offense and they had like 250, but their defense won them that game, and it was Kentucky fourth down, you know, turnovers and and and and stuff where they didn't win that game, and Kentucky was not good at all. Like there were periods last year during the season people forget Texas was bad. at football. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, it was not it was not what we were being fed like forty five minutes prior to kickoff week one. Like it wa it was made that Texas was going to beat Ohio State by at least thirty. That's what it that that's what it seemed seemed like. And it felt like that too. Micaiah: Yeah. Speaking from I mean, you even had that prediction. Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, that's what it felt like. And then it was like, meh. Thanks for watching. Micaiah: Thanks for why th thanks for why yeah, right. It was a very boring game. I my first team Oregon Ducks. Dante Moore's coming back. You also have Dylan Rayola as the backup, right? Who expected to redshirt and all that and sit, and that's fine. Four team returning starters. They made the college football playoff last year, right? Got smoked at Indiana by the end. The mean, the main reason I say that to returning coordinators or two, they have to replace their offense and defensive coordinators, right? They both left. So how does that play in to Dante Moore's development? Because there were points last season where Oregon didn't like like they had a they they played well, but there were points last season where they didn't look great. So how does losing two coordinators affect them? I just think if we're playing this fun brain exercise that Oregon's gotta be one of those teams on the list, I should say. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, I yeah, I mean you're it's that's probably I would say Oregon would probably be number two. Like b for me behind Texas because it's 'cause they're not Micaiah: Okay. Roberto Con Queso: It's not I feel like Oregon's just not a guarantee. You know, you sit here and like you can confidently say for a majority of the season that Ohio State's a guarantee that they're probably gonna win whatever game they're playing. But Oregon's kinda like I can't guarantee that Oregon's gonna beat Boise State. 'Cause they haven't played Boise State very well each time they've played them either. Micaiah: That's true. Ashton Genty kinda ran wild last time he was up there. Granted, Asht it was Ashton Genty, but but Bo and Boise State's a good team. I think Old Miss also has the potential to be a dumpster fire midway through the season. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, cause I ⁓ all their all their chips are on ⁓ Lacey. Yeah. And you know, it's kind of turning into what would ⁓ what would Simeon say? Just give him the ball. And that was for ⁓ Ollie Gordon. And Oklahoma State fell off the earth. So that's kind of almost the same scenario there. And you could almost sit there and say, LSU's in the next sec in the next spot. Micaiah: Key one. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, that did not turn out very well. Roberto Con Queso: I mean new quarter new quarterback, but it's Sam Levitt. But like even Sam Levit wasn't great. Micaiah: There's a lot more hype on well, Lane's obviously there. And the the success Ole Miss had last year transfers to this year. Even Lane, a few well, probably months ago now, came out and said, Hey, let's still remember this is a long process. No, no, no, no, Lane. You don't get to say that. You don't get to leave in the fashion you left. Bring in the roster you brought in, and then say, ask for patience. That's not how business works in Baton Rouge. And you know that. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Micaiah: ⁓ I I think oldness is replacing their entire offensive coaching staff. The defensive coaching staff there were mix up, brand new coordinators. Yeah, Pete Goldings there. There is tampering allegations that the NCAA is currently investigating right now, but that old miss maybe has infractions. Will that affect this season at all? I don't know because the NCAA takes forever to do things. Trinidad Chambliss came back, but was it the offensive system, or was it Trinidad Chambliss, or was it a combination to where now he takes a step back and more emphasis is on Keywan Lacey? Question mark. The defense is okay, but has never been great. So are you gonna rely on that? I don't know. Altimus could be a hot, ⁓ a dumpster fire for sure. Another team, I think. This is the least likelihood, but I'm going to target is Notre Dame. CJ Carr, great quarterback. They have the number one nationally returning production according to ChatGPT, 72% on offense. They're always very solid defensively. Something bothers me with how the last season ended. They were bummed, they missed out. So they took their ball and they went home, and they didn't even play in a bowl game. Not saying that there can be a carryover, but what I'm saying is Marcus Freeman also has a tendency to lose early games he shouldn't. And then let's just say he gets a hard game in there somewhere along and he loses that. And then it become okay, well now they're on their playoff lives, and now it becomes a third loss, which becomes a fourth, and now they're eight and four, right? Imai ⁓ I you I think you think I'm out of my gourd with Notre Dame. Roberto Con Queso: No, no, because my so I can I can agree with Notre Dame, but my rationale at Notre Dame is generally different. Just because With Notre Dame, they need to rely on not themselves, they need to rely on their opponents. Micaiah: Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: By you know, not being in the conference. You know, old Old Miskin kind of escaped by as long as they're losing to number two Georgia, number four, Alabama, and number one Texas. You know what I mean? Then they're only sitting at like number 10 with three losses. Where Notre Dame, they need rice to be like seven and four. They need Wisconsin to be ranked to make themselves look better. Better because if Notre Dame goes undefeated, but none of the teams at the end of the year are ranked. It it looks good that you're undefeated, but not good like you're kinda s looking just like Tulane out of the American. So it I feel like in that aspect Micaiah: Okay, right, sure. Roberto Con Queso: It could get really bad for Notre Dame by no fault of the players, but of the weird traditional mentality of the college itself. Micaiah: Okay. Nerdame schedule. On paper looks okay. Wisconsin, ⁓ I'm very interested to see what happens with Luke Fickel and whether Wisconsin is good or not, right? ⁓ their toughest games on paper are BYU October seventeenth at BYU and then you're home to Miami two weeks later. You play Navy, you got rid of Army, so that was nice. You play North Carolina, Michigan State, Purdue, we'll see what happened and Stanford. The middle chunk of your schedule, like from Wisconsin on paper, to all the way down to BYU, is very doable for Notre Dame, talent-wise. Roberto Con Queso: Like so when you're we like just looking at their schedule though, you have to sit here and go, Okay, two of those games last year, if they played two of those games, mainly BYU and Miami, that's that's kind of it. Michigan State wasn't good. Purdue was bad, North Carolina was bad, Stanford, bad, Navy, not good, but they're Yeah, military school, so it's kind of different. You know, Wisconsin, Bryce, not good. Boston College, not good. SMU was okay. Syracuse, they were okay. Like they're play they're flirting so much with these schedules. By only by scheduling just mid tier teams that it's a fifty fifty shot whether they're gonna be good or not, I'll tell you the fifty percent for perdu, not good. It's more like a ninety nine to one percent. Micaiah: Yeah. Per Purdue's struggling a l ⁓ quite a bit. Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: Still like Yeah, and I I that's just I guess the risk that you're willing to take. But then ⁓ it it could just very well work out. Wisconsin figures something out. What? No clue. But they figure it out and they only have two losses. Michigan State figures it out. They have two losses. ⁓ Miami continues the path they're on and they're undefeated at that point. It could work out and then they sit there like geniuses, like, yeah, you see what we what we can do, and we're like, All right, yeah, whatever. Let's see it in the playoffs. But if it if it doesn't work out, it then we come back to the same scenario where why are we guaranteeing a team that's not making it hard on themselves when they very well could be getting an automatic spot at twelve? Micaiah: Yeah, and that's the most asinine rule too, where Notre Dame, if the as long as they're ranked twelve or higher, they get an automatic spot into the college football play. That's asinine. So Notre Dame looks smart because they're not in a conference and they're making as much money as some of these other conference school schools that are in conferences from their TV contracts. So they're smart in that aspect, but but we're basically rewarding them. Everyone loves that. There are these conferences, even though that the conferences don't mean anything, but yet you're gonna then sit back there and reward Notre Dame for not making a conference. A it just it just bothers me because they're doing what's smart for the school, but also they're doing it I I feel. They're doing it just to be petty and because everyone tells them that they can't do it. But then they get surprised when they get left out because they don't have a conference championship game of the playoff. ⁓ they They get so upset that they take their ball and Did you have another team? Roberto Con Queso: I would also s kind of say Texas Tech, but that just that ⁓ relies on Soresby. Micaiah: Because of Soresby. Yeah. So ⁓ I I I am very intrigued by week three, Old Miss L S U. LSU comes to Old Miss. If he thought he his life was in danger when he took Old Miss back to Tennessee and Tennessee was throwing mustard and golf balls at his head, he's in physical danger. Physical danger. Not only is that a rivalry game, that is a heated rivalry game. Old Miss and LSU and the Magnolia Pole do not like each other. Roberto Con Queso: Love that. Yeah. Yeah, it's The bad part is is the media just gonna grab that game and just supercharge it to where it's gonna just be like it's going to be obviously it's going to sh it should be a good game, emphasis on should. But the media is just gonna gra and they're gonna be like, this is the greatest game in football, you know, and Paul Feinbaum's gonna pound his chest for a full week, baby, about, you know, the the roosters are coming home to roost and all you know, that Micaiah: ⁓ yes, they're already doing that. Roberto Con Queso: If the game doesn't pan out and it's just like a boring game, it's kind of like, all right, well, that was kind of a bummer. Like is is is the hype going to be too much? Micaiah: It is the emphasis of college football, right? There is a baby face and there is a clear heel in the in this year's game, right? There is everyone outside of Louisiana will be rooting for Old Miss in this game, based on on how events ended last year. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Yes. Micaiah: I these both of these teams' schedules are not easy up until week three, especially with week one. Olmus has got Louisville, Jeff Brahm's giant killer baby, and then Clemson is going into Baton Rouge for revenge after last year. And we'll see if Clemson can kind of turn things around. Some show a little life, Clemson. Roberto Con Queso: Something. Micaiah: We're we are college football fans, right? We are Michigan fans, but we are college football fans. We love the sport of college football. That's why we do this podcast. ⁓ we can talk about just about any team, any player, whoever you want, because we love the sport. I think that's fair to say. So I want us to put our fan hats on because I know I want to do another front exercise. So we did the who might get the bad end of the stick. Who might get the who are you hoping? Not a prediction. This is not a prediction. I just You are looking ahead of the season, you are thinking of teams and players and things that have happened in the past and how you might want them to play out. Who are you hoping has a good season this year? Roberto Con Queso: I'll tell you what, I'll give you one player, one coach, and one team. Okay. The I'll start with player. A player that I hope just has a great year is Arch Manning. Micaiah: Outside of Michigan. Okay. Okay. Roberto Con Queso: I just that kid has so much hype on him that anything less than a Heisman is a disappointment. So I hope I hope he lives up to it and I hope it's a great thing and it just it's a good year for him. Coach, I hope it is Kiffen. I would love for Kiffen to just go on a generational tear with LSU and then it just fall apart, not on the team. Micaiah: Okay. Roberto Con Queso: But then him fall apart and then Ed Ogiron comes in. I'm just saying put big Ed back in. ⁓ and then what do I got left? The team? Yeah, the team. ⁓ a team that I would like just to like really take off and they don't have to win national championship or anything, but just get a lot better. That's good lord. I I I would really like like Navy to take off. Yeah. You know Micaiah: Okay. All right. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I love that. Yes. Okay. Roberto Con Queso: I I think it the best thing for college football is when the academy schools r are decent, like de better than better than decent, but they don't have to be like undefeated juggernauts. 'Cause I mean, it's not like they're choosing five star recruits to come in, like they're choosing people that just want to play football and then go defend the country. Micaiah: A nine and three, ten and two is what you're referring to. Yeah. Yeah. All right. I am hopeful Clemson has a good season. I think college football is a lot better with Clemson in tow. And I'm a big fan of Dabo, especially because I I truly believe he is He truly wants to make better people, not just win football games. He wants to make better people. And I truly hope that he's rewarded with a good season. It has been far too long. And now the hype's not on him, and maybe that's what he needs. I'm also hoping Oklahoma State has a good season. I just love Drew Mestermaker. Came in, he I mean, he wasn't even playing football until Just recently, right? Had a great season last year. North Texas, they all come in. Bedlam, they don't play, they don't play bedlum, but the the pokes, when the pokes are good, plus they had the set, what was that? The section 227 with the guys taking their shirts off last year. Like, like, and they were a bad football team, and they've been a bad football team now for like three years. Like, it's time for Oklahoma State to get back on top, or at least show improvement. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Micaiah: And then finally, I really truly hope Florida unlocks and becomes a juggernaut. Because I think that college football and especially the SEC just is at their mecca when Florida's good. Because Florida fans become the most annoying people on earth and I will hate every minute of it. But it that is just what is so good. They'll act like they've been here for twenty five years. And in reality, for the better part of twenty five years, they've been just trash. And I'm just Go ahead. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Well I mean close second place with just ⁓ Franklin. Franklin of Virginia Tech. If he if he turns that program around, has a great year, I mean that to bring them back to where they're competitive in the ACC, I mean even if they win a playoff game, like he can like what Micaiah: ⁓ yeah. ⁓ enter Sandman would be electric if they were like nine and ⁓ Roberto Con Queso: What does anyone have to say then about like him at Penn State then? It's like, ⁓ you couldn't do it at Penn State, but you can do it at Virginia Tech. And it's like, hey, you know, what are you gonna do? But I think I and I think we need more teams to just kind of take off. Teams that teams that used to be very competitive that really aren't anymore. Like if Purdue would just get a little bit better, you know, Northwestern gets a little bit better, Rutgers. Micaiah: I would agree with that. Roberto Con Queso: If Maryland just leaves and goes back to the ACC, you know, if Nebraska would leave and go back to the Big Twelve, you know, let's go back to the simpler days where teams were better at their older conferences. I'm looking at you, Texas AM. Like Micaiah: Yeah. Yeah. I I I'm in agreement that it was a much simpler time. Or it seemed and hindsight's always 2020, but it seemed like a much simpler time. And looking back on it, it definitely was. And I do I do miss that. Flo Florida State ⁓ also kind of the whole state of Florida, I would just like to get together. The whole state's in sham. Well, just get the it's the whole the whole state I would like to get together. But when you have Miami good and Florida State good, by the way, that rivalry's electric. When they're both e excellent. And then if you have Florida good, then then the state of Florida at any moment could burn down. The entire state. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. If you can get those three teams to really hit that hit their stride to where it's like, ⁓ this week is Florida, Florida State, next week is Florida, Miami, and then the following week is Florida State, Miami. Like if you can get three straight weeks of just the best Florida football, like those three games would probably take precedence over like you're just I'm Michigan and Western Michigan would not be playing at seven thirty. Micaiah: right, exactly. You you you would it it just makes the sport better and that's what I'm here for. I'm here for great games and great outcomes and and maybe less less ⁓ pre-game shows. But other than that that let's just have a good season. ⁓ I I think that We've been talking at people for an hour. We've been talking to each other for an hour and 15 minutes. I'm good to get out of here. As the summer goes on, just to kind of preview for everyone, as the summer goes on, we will kind of do I I would like to kind of look and maybe create an all fourth and one team again. Last year's fourth and one team absolutely sucked. For we had Garrett, we had Garrett Nussmeyer on there. We had K Tron Allen, Desmond Reed, Jeremiah Smith, Ryan Williams. Roberto Con Queso: Ha ha. Micaiah: Historic drop off. Nick Harbor, the Georgia O-line, the Texas AM defense. We had Clemson's defense on there. I think the only great Dominic Zavada even had a bad season. I think I think the only saving grace was Jeremiah Smith, the Iowa Punter, and Eli Stowers. That was it. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Yeah, that's that's you know, if we just get a whole team of that, we we might have been okay. Micaiah: I I yeah, ⁓ I you know what? I hope Iowa goes ten and two and ⁓ and the punter wins the Heisman. That would be electric for me. Roberto Con Queso: I hope their punter wins the wins the Ray Guy Award. That's what I hope. Micaiah: Yeah. Yeah. All right. Well, we will see everyone at a later time. Thank you so much for tuning in. ⁓ until next time, make sure you like and subscribe and share. Go follow us on all our sorts socials, fourth one podcast. And ⁓ if you want us to talk anything college football or cover a topic during the rest of the summer, ⁓ just comment that down below.
