- 0:05This story happened to me in my own flesh, when I was only seven
- 0:09years old. I grew up in a completely atheistic family. My parents didn
- 0:14' t have many filters with us, so they never wanted us to believe
- 0:20in fantasies like the tooth fairy. The wizard kings Santa Claus don' t
- 0:26misunderstand me. They weren' t bad parents. We still received money for
- 0:30our teeth and gifts at Christmas, only, unlike other children, we knew
- 0:35exactly where they came from as expected by having a parenting. So, my
- 0:42brothers and I weren' t afraid of almost anything. Our parents never scared
- 0:47us with monsters that would come for us if we didn' t eat all
- 0:53the vegetables or if you didn' t sleep early, my parents' upbringing
- 0:58consisted more of each action carrying a reata. You could sleep at any time
- 1:02you wanted, but you should think if that would benefit you or harm you.
- 1:07The next day the same thing with vegetables and other things that often other
- 1:11parents do with threats. I don' t know if I' m just
- 1:18saying that because I was raised that way, but in my view, that
- 1:22' s the best way to educate. None of my brothers or I woke
- 1:26up crying for believing there was a ghost in the closet or a monster under
- 1:30the bed. We could go to the bathroom in the middle of the night
- 1:34without turning on a light. We firmly believed that ghosts and monsters were just
- 1:40myths and I would have loved to continue with this mentality for the rest of
- 1:46my life, because at the age of ten, my father got an even
- 1:49better job. I already had one where, while we weren' t rich,
- 1:56I never felt we were missing anything at all. But with this new
- 1:59tone down, not only would we lack nothing, but we would have enough
- 2:05for money not to be a problem. The first thing my parents started looking
- 2:09for was a new house. The house we lived in was fine, but
- 2:15we had to share a room in one me and my two sisters and in
- 2:21the other my two other brothers, not to mention that the courtyard was very
- 2:24small and we couldn' t play well there. My dad always talked about
- 2:29a huge house with such a big yard where he could give us a dog
- 2:34that we loved so much and where every son would have his own room.
- 2:38They searched for many months without finding any to convince them at all. They
- 2:44wanted it to be perfect. My dad even considered hiring an architect to build
- 2:49his dream house when one day they just found it. Although they did not
- 2:55believe in those things, they both agreed that, as they entered terror,
- 3:00they felt at home and after seeing it they discovered that it was the perfect
- 3:05house. There were exactly the number of rooms they needed, at a price
- 3:10far below what would normally cost and in such good condition that repairs were minimal.
- 3:17The backyard had swings and handrails for the children to play and, if
- 3:23that were not enough, it was already furnished. There was only one problem.
- 3:28The house was cheaper than usual, because the previous owners had passed away.
- 3:32There it seemed that it had been a matter of parents who poisoned their
- 3:38children' s food as well as theirs and after dinner, they all went
- 3:43to their beds to never wake up again. Neither my mother nor my father
- 3:47considered that a point against buying the house. Of course it had been a
- 3:53great tragedy. However, they couldn' t do anything about it and obviously,
- 3:59they didn' t think that the house was cursed for that stunt now,
- 4:04so they signed the papers and in less than a week we were moving.
- 4:10Our parents never kept anything from us and that was no exception. I
- 4:15guess they didn' t want some kid in the neighborhood to get ahead of
- 4:20themselves by exaggerating things and confusing us. Obviously, they weren' t very
- 4:24graphic about the facts. By that time, we all knew that death was
- 4:28part of life and that that was the most natural thing in the world.
- 4:31However, in this case the parents were responsible for the death of their children.
- 4:38We understood it and went to unpack and explore. The new house.
- 4:43She was pretty pretty and I really thought I' d really like the place.
- 4:47My room was huge and with a large window that let in a lot
- 4:51of natural light. Besides, my dad had told me that I could paint
- 4:56it and decorate it as I liked it best. He just settled my stuff.
- 5:00When my sister Clara told me that everyone would play hide and seek to
- 5:05join me immediately I accepted and ran out to play with them. It was
- 5:12my brother Darío' s turn to tell. The site was so new and
- 5:15big that literally there were a hundred good places where to hide I was always
- 5:23someone very competitive and even in a game as basic as the hidden ones,
- 5:28I wanted to win. I would open all the doors of the house in
- 5:30search of the perfect place to hide. Of course there were some very good
- 5:34ones, but I wanted the best. Soon I was before a door with
- 5:40turquoise blue paint, somewhat worn out. I opened it and there were stairs
- 5:45that plunged you into the darkness of the basement. I wasn' t afraid.
- 5:48On the contrary, I smiled at the darkness. He was the best
- 5:53friend I wanted to hide from I closed the door and started putting the place
- 5:58down. I smelled a little damp and it was so dark I couldn'
- 6:01t see my hand in front of my face. When I was about to
- 6:05get down, one of the steps broke and I fell to the floor.
- 6:10Luckily, it was just the penultimate step before the ladder ended. When I
- 6:15started touching the floor to know that I could lean on myself without burying a
- 6:20nail or glass, I could feel a cylinder immediately I knew what it was
- 6:26couldn' t be more perfect. It was a flashlight which, to my
- 6:30luck, still lit. I got up with a flashlight in my hand.
- 6:33It was full of dust and cobwebs. There were a lot of things there,
- 6:39several board games, toys, boxes that looked full of clothes, shelves
- 6:45with Christmas and Halloween ornaments and even what seemed to be a billiard table.
- 6:49Once I won the game, I would tell my brothers that we had a
- 6:54great treasure. That' s what I was thinking when I suddenly heard my
- 6:59brother Darío' s squealing voice sounding on the top floor warning that he'
- 7:03d start looking for us. I began to light up everywhere in the hope
- 7:10of finding an even more worthy hiding place than securing my victory, when suddenly
- 7:15I saw a large blue trunk. However, the painting already looked old.
- 7:21I wasn' t skimmed or anything like that, but it was one of
- 7:26those things that just seeing the birds that were probably long before you were born,
- 7:30had some golden ornaments around in my little girl' s mind that trunk
- 7:36resembled a pirate treasure. I walked towards him. It was seen that at
- 7:43some point he had a lock, but now he was nowhere else. I
- 7:46opened it quickly. Couldn' t be more perfect. There was nothing there,
- 7:51except for a rag doll about fifty centimeters with red stammer hair and blue
- 7:57button eyes. I heard my brother Darío Screaming that I had found it clear,
- 8:03so, without wasting any more time, I entered the trunk, without
- 8:07even bothering to pull out the wrist there that was perfectly fine. I stayed
- 8:13there for a few minutes. The trunk was too thick for me to keep
- 8:18listening. If I gave or found my other brothers, I thought the place
- 8:24was great. Maybe if we begged enough. My dad could make us one
- 8:30of those playrooms like the movies. We already had the pool table. I
- 8:35couldn' t say no to the rest. I was thinking about that when
- 8:41I felt like something went through my back giving me a strong chill that lifted
- 8:46every hair out of my body. It wasn' t an insect, it
- 8:48didn' t feel that way. I could only compare it to fabric right
- 8:54away. My brain connected everything was the doll. I assumed that I had
- 8:58moved in a certain way, that I did not want to move the wrist
- 9:03arm and later it had slipped downwards, so I decided not to take more
- 9:07importance when suddenly I heard something even weirder. It started out as something similar
- 9:13to a mouse squealing. I figured I' d have to tell my mom
- 9:18to buy some traps at the supermarket. But as the seconds went by,
- 9:22that mouse squealing became distorted and began to look more and more like a little
- 9:28girl. And what was worse, he was listening right behind me. My
- 9:35ears couldn' t believe what they were hearing anymore They were not only crying,
- 9:41but suddenly a tender, distressed voice. He asked me you can help
- 9:46me to the part that put his cold and rough rag hand on my cheek.
- 9:50I immediately threw a scary scream. I kicked with all my strength the
- 9:56lid of the trunk, which opened without any problem. How could I get
- 10:01out? From there I ran upstairs the tears. They kept listening. This
- 10:05time I so clearly opened the basement door and came out of there. My
- 10:11brothers and parents had heard my cry and had run to my rescue. I
- 10:16didn' t know how to start explaining it. What had happened to me
- 10:20was against everything we had been taught. Still, after calming down a little
- 10:26bit, I told you exactly what happened to me and what I thought I
- 10:30felt. My parents believed me I had no reason to invent something like that.
- 10:35However, they assumed that perhaps my mind had exaggerated everything. Probably if
- 10:41there was a trunk in the basement with a wrist inside, but most likely
- 10:46that wrist had some sort of mechanism to make it move and talk. So,
- 10:52when I went in without wanting to push the button that made her act
- 10:56that way. That would explain why I heard myself so clearly at first.
- 11:01He was probably running out of batteries to calm us down even more. We
- 11:07all went down to the basement. My dad found the switch, which made
- 11:11the basement fully illuminated in seconds. It was much more spacious than I had
- 11:18believed moments ago. My brothers were so excited to see the big pile of
- 11:24toy boxes and board games. They completely forgot about my experience there and ran
- 11:30to see the toys. Dad opened the trunk. The doll was still there
- 11:35inert and without the slightest sign of being possessed, she raised it fearlessly.
- 11:41As I said before, he didn' t believe in those things and at
- 11:46the same time educated us not to believe them. Nor did he inspect it
- 11:50carefully, rolling each part of it as trying to find the mechanism that made
- 11:56it work. But the more he touched her on her face. It could
- 12:00be seen that there was nothing. There he smiled at the part that kept
- 12:05trying to find any mechanism on the wrist and when he noticed that we were
- 12:09all realizing that, he squeezed his chest and said that there it was a
- 12:15voice box. Right away. My older sister calmed down and said that the
- 12:20doll was very pretty and no one wanted it. So she did, when
- 12:26she tried to get my dad out of her hands, he lifted her up
- 12:30a little bit to avoid it. He said the batteries were probably in a
- 12:33terrible state, in addition to the voice box, so he would open it
- 12:37to get everything out and then hand it over to him. I don'
- 12:41t blame my father for that he was a man of science. He couldn
- 12:46' t conceive the idea that what I was living had been real. It
- 12:50was probably real in my head and he just wanted to calm me down.
- 12:54It took about three months for us to live relatively normal. Nothing more than
- 13:00I panicked him. I refused to go down to the basement, no matter
- 13:05what the rest of my brothers did. Besides that, I had horrible nightmares
- 13:09very often with that doll. My torment got bigger when my dad couldn'
- 13:16t keep denying my sister' s wrist, so he gave it to her
- 13:20and by that time, that doll was sitting on my sister' s bed
- 13:24facing my room, looking at me with those blue button eyes and her perpetual
- 13:30smile. One night, my brother Gabriel, the youngest of us, woke
- 13:35me up. I was so scared. He told me that there was something
- 13:39in his room that in his dreams he heard someone crying and asking for help
- 13:46and then they caressed his soles. We both went to his room to check,
- 13:52but we didn' t find anything yet. That' s how I
- 13:54let him sleep with me that night. A week later, my brother Darío
- 13:58woke up screaming in the middle of the morning. He described more or less
- 14:03the same thing as someone crying and asking for help and then caressed his cheek,
- 14:09but when he opened his eyes in the darkness, he came to see
- 14:15a small humanoid silhouette that quickly came down from the bed and ran out of
- 14:18the room. But my parents comforted him by saying that it was just a
- 14:22nightmare and that because of that description, something like that just couldn' t
- 14:28exist. We were all terrified by that thing. The last one was my
- 14:33older sister, confirming what I already assumed. Her doll was the one who
- 14:37asked for help and caressed us some part of the body to get our attention.
- 14:43My sister says she was sleeping when she heard someone crying and, like
- 14:48the rest of my brothers, she told her if she could help her and
- 14:52then pull her hair. She ran to my room and told me that I
- 14:58had seen her that it was her wrist that had been tormenting us. We
- 15:03didn' t tell our parents. We knew they wouldn' t believe us.
- 15:07Instead, we talked to each other and decided that it was best to
- 15:11throw it in the trash and end of history. However, we were afraid
- 15:18that somehow he would get out of the trash can and enter the house again,
- 15:22so we thought the best option was to put it in a bag and
- 15:26throw it into a dam not far from our house. It wasn' t
- 15:31hard to do it when there was light in the place. It was like
- 15:35the doll just lost all the rough stuff. That afternoon, after carrying out
- 15:41our plan, we all felt liberated and happy. We thought we' d
- 15:48never see her again how wrong we were that same day at night, my
- 15:54brothers and I decided we wanted to celebrate it was Saturday and we wouldn'
- 16:00t have to go to school the next day, so we bought refreshments and
- 16:04fritters to spend the whole night watching movies. It was about one in the
- 16:07morning when we all felt that the temperature of the room went down. Even
- 16:12though we were carrying blankets, we felt cold all over our body. At
- 16:18first we didn' t want to give it much importance. We just keep
- 16:22watching TV. I was the first one to hear it. At first I
- 16:26didn' t know exactly what that sound was, but as the seconds went
- 16:32by, my brain began to make sense of what I was hearing. It
- 16:36was like someone dropped a wet rag on the floor. I kept thinking about
- 16:41why that sound was being heard. It was too late for Mom or Dad
- 16:45to be doing something in the kitchen and even if that was the case,
- 16:49the rag wouldn' t fall off. So many times I turned to see
- 16:55my brothers and asked them if they too listened to that, and they told
- 17:00me no, so I silenced the television and told them to pay attention and
- 17:04in just a few seconds they also listened to it. The sound seemed to
- 17:11be coming up the stairs. None of us were brave enough to go check
- 17:17or even encourage us to get out of bed. My sister' s and
- 17:21shut the door. We stayed like this for a few more seconds looking at
- 17:26each other in the hope that one of us would get up to see.
- 17:30When we suddenly saw the doll in the door frame, the cries began to
- 17:36be heard again, but this time they sounded more annoying than sad. The
- 17:41doll scurried water and there was a puddle of it surrounding it. The four
- 17:47of us threw such a panic cry that my father got up and ran as
- 17:52far as we were. And for the first time in this story, he
- 17:55finally saw it and heard it. The doll looked at him and told him
- 17:59that if he could help in an impulse that can only give him a protective
- 18:03father, he kicked the doll out of it to fly without wasting time.
- 18:07He took Gabriel in his arms and told us to run away from there we
- 18:12took nothing, ran out of the house and spent the night in a hotel.
- 18:18My father didn' t sleep all night. I think I was afraid
- 18:22that doll would find us and try to take one of us. Dad hired
- 18:27people to take out only our belongings, without toys or stuffed animals. All
- 18:33that would stay there forever. We never went back to that house. Dad
- 18:38never accepted the existence of a god as such, but he always clarified how
- 18:45much he respected the spiritual world. I guess we' ll never know if
- 18:48the doll was gonna get revenge on us for throwing her over the dam.
- 18:52Perhaps it was the soul of one of the children of that family who had
- 18:56somehow been trapped in the wrist and that is why he was asking for help,
- 19:00or perhaps it was something else that we can never understand. I just
- 19:06know that today I know that there are things that science just can' t
- 19:11explain. Anonymous account
