Latest / Hurdle with Emily Abbate / 5-MINUTE FRIDAY: It's MORE THAN OK If You Don't Have It All Figured Out
Transcript
- 0:19Speaker 1: What's going on? Everyone?
- 0:20Speaker 2: Emily A body here. You are listening to five minute
- 0:24Speaker 2: Friday from Hurdle. Y'all, it is wild. Hurdle is about
- 0:28Speaker 2: to be seven. We have a few weeks left. But
- 0:32Speaker 2: I remember like when Hurdle was three and I thought
- 0:36Speaker 2: to myself, you are a full blown toddler.
- 0:38Speaker 1: I have a toddler. This is crazy.
- 0:40Speaker 2: And now I am like, I cannot believe this thing
- 0:45Speaker 2: that I started as a side project in twenty eighteen. Wow,
- 0:53Speaker 2: what a journey that we've been on. That's not what
- 0:56Speaker 2: I want to talk about today. I'm sure I'll get
- 0:58Speaker 2: emotional about that few weeks. What I want to talk
- 1:01Speaker 2: about today is the fact that I don't have it
- 1:04Speaker 2: all figured out.
- 1:05Speaker 1: I don't have anything figured out. Okay, that's a lie.
- 1:07Speaker 2: I have some things figured out, but when it comes
- 1:10Speaker 2: to what I am working on in twenty twenty five,
- 1:14Speaker 2: it is a blank slate right now. And I have
- 1:18Speaker 2: felt a little hard on myself about that.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Lately. I felt a little hard on myself. I've been
- 1:25Speaker 1: a little hard on myself.
- 1:27Speaker 2: I open social media and I see folks talking about
- 1:32Speaker 2: all the stuff that they have coming down the pipe
- 1:35Speaker 2: that they can't wait to tell you about in twenty
- 1:37Speaker 2: twenty five, and I'm starting this newsletter because I want
- 1:40Speaker 2: to fill you in and et cetera, et cetera. And
- 1:42Speaker 2: I'm like, well, here, i am twiddling my thumbs, wondering
- 1:45Speaker 2: what I'm doing wrong that I don't have it all
- 1:47Speaker 2: figured out. And the fact is, and I know this
- 1:50Speaker 2: to be true, so I'm letting you know as well,
- 1:52Speaker 2: there is nothing wrong with you if you don't have
- 1:54Speaker 2: it figured out. Nothing, absolutely nothing. Here's the deal, right,
- 2:00Speaker 2: I believe that what is for me won't pass me by.
- 2:03Speaker 2: And I know it sounds a little woo woo, But
- 2:07Speaker 2: instead of stressing in this time period, yes, like I said,
- 2:11Speaker 2: I've been a little hard on myself, but I am
- 2:14Speaker 2: choosing to embrace the fact that it's all going to
- 2:17Speaker 2: be fine.
- 2:17Speaker 1: It's all going to be fine. Ninety nine point nine
- 2:20Speaker 1: percent of the time.
- 2:20Speaker 2: I say this often, if the worst thing that happens
- 2:24Speaker 2: is that you are exactly where you started, then transparently,
- 2:28Speaker 2: it's not all that bad. And right now I don't
- 2:34Speaker 2: have a ton of things locked in for the beginning
- 2:36Speaker 2: of the year, and I.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Am choosing to then instead.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Be where my feet are in this moment and use
- 2:44Speaker 2: this time to my advantage.
- 2:47Speaker 1: So what's that look like.
- 2:48Speaker 2: It looks like being intentional thinking about what I have
- 2:52Speaker 2: done in the past three sixty five, what I have enjoyed,
- 2:57Speaker 2: what I would want to do again, and what I don't.
- 3:02Speaker 2: It looks like me brainstorming about what I want to
- 3:07Speaker 2: get creative with in the new year. It looks like
- 3:10Speaker 2: me making asks and pitching ideas and understanding that not
- 3:16Speaker 2: all of those will see the light of day, not
- 3:18Speaker 2: all of those will happen. But if I don't pitch them,
- 3:21Speaker 2: if I don't put myself out there, none of it happens.
- 3:25Speaker 2: And so although I would love to tell you that
- 3:31Speaker 2: I know, as an entrepreneur exactly where the financials are
- 3:35Speaker 2: coming from in Q one, I don't have that information
- 3:38Speaker 2: right now and type a planner Emily Energy would love
- 3:45Speaker 2: again for that to be different. But I recognize that
- 3:48Speaker 2: this is happening so that I can learn from it.
- 3:51Speaker 2: This is happening because I can handle it. And that
- 3:54Speaker 2: is the theme in life as a whole. Right we
- 3:56Speaker 2: are only put in situations that we can handle, and
- 4:00Speaker 2: all of the hard or difficult moments that have happened
- 4:03Speaker 2: up until right this very second, as you listen to
- 4:06Speaker 2: this podcast. I have navigated, You have navigated, and I
- 4:10Speaker 2: will continue to navigate moving forward. And so if you
- 4:14Speaker 2: two are a little like, oh my gosh, what is
- 4:18Speaker 2: going on in the new year, know that you're not
- 4:21Speaker 2: alone with that. Know that although you might feel like
- 4:24Speaker 2: everyone around you has it figured out, I promise you
- 4:26Speaker 2: that they don't, and we will move forward on it together.
- 4:32Speaker 2: If you're local to the New York area, I have
- 4:34Speaker 2: some exciting info on a goal setting workshop that I'm
- 4:37Speaker 2: going to be hosting come January. I had to get
- 4:40Speaker 2: some ducks in a row on that, so stay tuned.
- 4:43Speaker 2: I promise I will deliver. And if you're not, I
- 4:47Speaker 2: am working on a goal setting template that will be
- 4:50Speaker 2: available on the Hurdle website shortly, so stay tuned for
- 4:55Speaker 2: more on that as well. My prompt for you this
- 4:59Speaker 2: week get creative. What is one thing that you want
- 5:03Speaker 2: to keep doing, stop doing and start doing in the
- 5:09Speaker 2: new year? Again, what is one thing that you want
- 5:12Speaker 2: to keep doing, start doing and stop doing in the
- 5:18Speaker 2: new year? And now a listener question. Hey, my name
- 5:23Speaker 2: is Kara. I'm a longtime fan of the show and
- 5:25Speaker 2: love keeping up with you on social media. I'm sure
- 5:29Speaker 2: you get messages like this all the time, but I
- 5:31Speaker 2: am so impressed by the way that you have such
- 5:33Speaker 2: a consistent morning routine, especially when it comes to workouts.
- 5:38Speaker 2: I am wondering, what is one thing that you would
- 5:41Speaker 2: say helps you make that happen every single day? And
- 5:45Speaker 2: if you had to recommend a way for me to
- 5:48Speaker 2: work out, I love this, what would that be?
- 5:51Speaker 1: Thanks so much?
- 5:53Speaker 2: Okay, let me start with I love that you want
- 5:56Speaker 2: to take the initiative and get out and up in
- 5:59Speaker 2: the morning. You know, this is how I love to
- 6:01Speaker 2: begin my day. I feel like I am better for it,
- 6:03Speaker 2: and so I am pro morning workout vibes. With that said,
- 6:08Speaker 2: one tip that helps me make it happen on the
- 6:10Speaker 2: regular is that I have decided that it's a non
- 6:13Speaker 2: negotiable for me and that I know that getting active
- 6:17Speaker 2: first thing makes me feel like my best self. So
- 6:20Speaker 2: I say the sentence I am a morning workout person, period. Now,
- 6:24Speaker 2: if you were to say the sentence like I feel
- 6:26Speaker 2: as though I'm a morning workout person, that leaves a
- 6:29Speaker 2: little bit more room for negotiation. So first things first,
- 6:34Speaker 2: own the fact that this is who you are now.
- 6:37Speaker 1: Now if that feels a little overwhelming.
- 6:39Speaker 2: I get it. It's okay. Let's ease into it a
- 6:42Speaker 2: little bit more so. Perhaps you are the kind of
- 6:45Speaker 2: person who can a put your workout clothes out the
- 6:48Speaker 2: night before and b make a date to get active.
- 6:53Speaker 2: So whether that's with a friend, or perhaps it's still
- 6:56Speaker 2: doing it on your own, but touching base with a
- 6:59Speaker 2: friend and setting that time after the workout is done
- 7:03Speaker 2: so you can be accountability buddies. You don't want to
- 7:06Speaker 2: let yourself down, sure, but you really don't want to
- 7:09Speaker 2: skip out on something that involves another person.
- 7:11Speaker 1: So maybe you're meeting someone for.
- 7:13Speaker 2: Your workout, you're going to a yoga class, or you're
- 7:15Speaker 2: both taking the same peloton class at seven am on
- 7:18Speaker 2: a Thursday, or perhaps you're simply planning to text each
- 7:23Speaker 2: other at eight thirty am once the effort is done.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Whatever you do, trust me, accountability is gold. Start there,
- 7:32Speaker 2: lay out your clothes, find an accountability buddy, and let
- 7:35Speaker 2: me know if there's another way that I can help you. Now,
- 7:38Speaker 2: when you ask me what you should be doing for
- 7:40Speaker 2: your workout, candidly, whatever is something that you enjoy. The
- 7:44Speaker 2: science shows the research shows that when you are doing
- 7:48Speaker 2: an activity that you find enjoyable, you'll keep doing it.
- 7:51Speaker 2: So if you're not someone that loves running, or if
- 7:54Speaker 2: you're not someone that loves strength training, it's pretty unlikely
- 7:57Speaker 2: that from.
- 7:58Speaker 1: The get go you're going to stick with that.
- 8:00Speaker 2: So find something at first that makes you feel really
- 8:03Speaker 2: good in your body. And there are so many options. Kettlebells,
- 8:08Speaker 2: strength training, running, dance, cardio, hot yoga, spin, hit classes right,
- 8:15Speaker 2: so many different options, So find something that you enjoy
- 8:19Speaker 2: and moving group from there. I am always hunting your
- 8:23Speaker 2: listener questions, so please reach out to me with them

- 8:31Speaker 2: that email address for your listener question is Hello at
