- 0:00Speaker 1: We are here with crackenhead coach Lane Lambert Lane, you've
- 0:02Speaker 1: made it through your first training camp. What did you
- 0:06Speaker 1: learn about this team from day one to where we
- 0:10Speaker 1: are now going into the official day one of the season.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I think, uh, you know, there was a there
- 0:16Speaker 2: was and is a thirst to get better by each
- 0:20Speaker 2: and every player and by the entire group as a whole.
- 0:23Speaker 2: They're a good group, good people, which is which is
- 0:27Speaker 2: step one. And I thought training camp was successful in
- 0:30Speaker 2: the sense that we we really embraced what we're trying
- 0:34Speaker 2: to do as best we possibly can. Again, I continue
- 0:37Speaker 2: to say it's you know, it's a game of mistakes,
- 0:39Speaker 2: so we will make some mistakes. But as long as we,
- 0:43Speaker 2: you know, continue to build on that foundation, and they've
- 0:46Speaker 2: done a good job of doing that, you know we'll
- 0:50Speaker 2: be We'll be fine. And so I guess just an
- 0:53Speaker 2: overall commitment from the group, starting with their summer training
- 0:56Speaker 2: and everything too.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Right now, a lot of coaches will say that it's
- 1:00Speaker 1: still going to be a work in progress. Your training camp,
- 1:03Speaker 1: your preseason, then your first ten games of the year.
- 1:06Speaker 1: What are you still looking for out of this group
- 1:09Speaker 1: as they embark on tonight and against Anaheim. Where do
- 1:11Speaker 1: you feel this team stands in terms of what they
- 1:14Speaker 1: do really well and maybe some areas that you'd like
- 1:16Speaker 1: to see short up as we move through the first
- 1:18Speaker 1: few weeks of the season.
- 1:19Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a good question. Again, I'm no different than
- 1:23Speaker 2: anyone else that you said, say it's a work in progress.
- 1:26Speaker 2: It clearly has to be training camp short but certainly,
- 1:31Speaker 2: you know, there's things that I like about our game.
- 1:33Speaker 2: There's things that we have to continue to improve on
- 1:35Speaker 2: our game. I'd like to see us, you know, our
- 1:37Speaker 2: gaps be better. You know, we attack more. I thought
- 1:40Speaker 2: in the preseason we sort of got on our heels
- 1:43Speaker 2: a little bit at times through the neutral zone, So
- 1:45Speaker 2: that's got to be better. But certainly, I think with
- 1:48Speaker 2: our transition mentality from defense to offense, I think we've
- 1:52Speaker 2: done a pretty good.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Job of that.
- 1:53Speaker 2: We have to continue to build on that.
- 1:55Speaker 1: What's the message to this group going into Game one?
- 1:58Speaker 2: Have fun? You know, because you're everybody's like uptight, nervous,
- 2:03Speaker 2: whatever it might be. Just go play, don't overthink it,
- 2:07Speaker 2: go play and then just enjoy it.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Sometimes that's easier said than the beginning of the season.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Everyone's in the first place, everyone's goal is the Stanley
- 2:16Speaker 1: Cup and to get to the playoffs, and I would
- 2:18Speaker 1: imagine the cracking are no different. But for you, what
- 2:21Speaker 1: do you feel would make this a successful season? Are
- 2:24Speaker 1: you a long term vision type of person or is
- 2:27Speaker 1: this is this genuinely a one day at a time,
- 2:30Speaker 1: one game at a time mindset that you'd like to
- 2:32Speaker 1: try to instill in this group.
- 2:34Speaker 2: I think you just have to take it one day
- 2:35Speaker 2: at a time. You know, at the end of the day,
- 2:38Speaker 2: you're right, everybody has these these thoughts and hopes and
- 2:45Speaker 2: takes you all the way into April or whatever. But
- 2:48Speaker 2: you just have to focus on the daily the daily
- 2:52Speaker 2: grind I guess, so to speak, or the daily process
- 2:55Speaker 2: and then eventually, you know, the aprils or whatever, the
- 2:58Speaker 2: maze take care of themselves, right, So just looking to
- 3:02Speaker 2: get just looking to get better every day and continue
- 3:04Speaker 2: to improve. I think success will be measured by a
- 3:08Speaker 2: number of different scales, and you know, we'll see as
- 3:12Speaker 2: we go forward. But that's right off the bat, that's
- 3:14Speaker 2: what we're looking for.
- 3:16Speaker 1: For you as a coach. What does the first day
- 3:17Speaker 1: of a season mean to you? I mean, you've been
- 3:20Speaker 1: doing this for a long time at various levels, but
- 3:23Speaker 1: it still has to have that first day of school feeling.
- 3:27Speaker 1: You know, you're you got your first day of school
- 3:29Speaker 1: suit already to go and and all of that. What
- 3:31Speaker 1: is the first day of the season genuinely truly mean
- 3:35Speaker 1: for you?
- 3:35Speaker 2: Well, it's it's again. It just reminds you of the
- 3:41Speaker 2: privilege of being able to be a part of this
- 3:44Speaker 2: league and be a part of a team you know,
- 3:49Speaker 2: and certainly to be head coaching one of those hockey
- 3:53Speaker 2: teams is a real honor and a privilege. So, you know,
- 3:57Speaker 2: the first day of the season, it it reminds you
- 4:01Speaker 2: the training camp is finally over and let's start playing
- 4:05Speaker 2: hockey for real here and see where we go. But
- 4:07Speaker 2: certainly everybody's exciting.
- 4:09Speaker 1: You mentioned you're playing it for real. You're going up
- 4:11Speaker 1: against the Anaheim Ducks, a team that started to make
- 4:15Speaker 1: a little bit of noise second half of last season.
- 4:17Speaker 1: You know, they're on the up and up. Their core,
- 4:19Speaker 1: as you mentioned earlier today, is getting older, their kids
- 4:22Speaker 1: are growing up. What can the crack and expect out
- 4:24Speaker 1: of Anaheim A team who was hungry, they're trying to
- 4:27Speaker 1: get back to the playoffs. The crack that are trying
- 4:29Speaker 1: to get back to the playoffs. So at least on paper,
- 4:31Speaker 1: a pretty evenly matched two teams to start this season.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, what can we expect that them. They're
- 4:38Speaker 2: a fast hockey team. You know, they've got some skill
- 4:41Speaker 2: and some talent. Their defense are very mobile and very
- 4:46Speaker 2: good at joining. So you know, from from our standpoint,
- 4:50Speaker 2: where we're going to have to check and I think
- 4:52Speaker 2: our offensive piggyback off our checking game and you know
- 4:56Speaker 2: we'll go from there. But certainly a talented group that
- 4:59Speaker 2: has you know, now been together really some of the
- 5:03Speaker 2: some of their younger players and what I have now
- 5:04Speaker 2: been together for a few years here, and uh, you know,
- 5:07Speaker 2: with the addition of Crider, who's a you know, tremendous
- 5:12Speaker 2: player in his own right. Uh, you know, they've got
- 5:14Speaker 2: some obviously, they've got some bullets Grandlin they picked up
- 5:17Speaker 2: as well, So they picked up a couple of veteran
- 5:20Speaker 2: guys that have you know, really had success. So it's
- 5:23Speaker 2: going to be about a
