Transcript
- 0:15Hello and welcome back to the Easy Double Podcast episode 37.
- 0:19We're recording on a Monday night in the 30° heat in Perth
- 0:23and heat may be the theme of this week's episode.
- 0:26CNS Owen is joining us from Campo de Entremiento Diskin,
- 0:33which means training Camp Diskin over in Spain.
- 0:37Welcome, Owen. I'm live from the oven, which is
- 0:41Spain. I'm back in at the last time I
- 0:43was in the oven was parts with you guys.
- 0:45So yeah, I know it's I'm definitely getting cooked, but
- 0:51hopefully just not too much. So what it's like been late
- 0:55October, early November and you've have you still been
- 0:58getting consistent like low to mid 20s every day?
- 1:01Oh. Yeah, like right now it's 20°
- 1:05and it's humid enough in the evenings.
- 1:07Like for my track session last last Thursday, I think it was
- 1:11like 84% humidity, which Dean, the weatherman, I don't know if
- 1:14that's good or bad, but I was dripping in sweat.
- 1:18Do you know that front runner, like the light singler?
- 1:21That was literally plastic thing.
- 1:23So yeah, I know it's warm. But yeah, be a good little place
- 1:28for a city breaks that, you know, English and British and
- 1:31Irish people are always like chasing a bit of winter sun.
- 1:33It's hard to kind of find anywhere this time of year
- 1:36that's still actually warm. Coach could be on to something
- 1:38with a little Airbnb there. The South of Spain is like,
- 1:42yeah, it's warm all year round, I think so, yeah.
- 1:46Up on this nice little training camps.
- 1:48Yeah. I think Ben O'Connor or Ben
- 1:50Connor, he's out here as well somewhere.
- 1:52He ran some of the routes that I run and so I might try and slide
- 1:57into his DMS this week, maybe go for a job with him, pick his
- 2:00brand and. That'll be class.
- 2:03Yeah. And Dean, you, how are you
- 2:04getting on in this 30°? He's the first of many, I'm
- 2:07sure. Yeah, no doing well.
- 2:10Yeah, no feeling. It's a little bit warmer today,
- 2:13but probably not gotten too hot just yet.
- 2:17Dare I say it's probably a bit drier than what it is over in
- 2:20Spain. But no, I'm feeling well,
- 2:22excited to talk with you guys. Yeah, I don't know if you've
- 2:26done any outdoor activity today, but I went for a ride before my
- 2:30throat was just getting slammed like dry every 5 minutes, having
- 2:34to swig on the water constantly. Yeah.
- 2:38And that's where we're normally a bit lucky in the sense that if
- 2:40it is hot, it's a bit dry, not 84% humidity, which is getting
- 2:44up there. That's what I do in my Irish
- 2:49sheet waves for like all the summer and like the dry throat
- 2:53feeling, all that sort of stuff. So yes, no Time news got it as
- 2:56well. Yeah, no, it's not.
- 2:58Not to bang on about climate, but it is very different between
- 3:03being dry. And that's why the dew point
- 3:06score plus the air temperature score is the relevant score,
- 3:09because in Perth it could sometimes be, say, 30°, but the
- 3:13dew point's about 5 or 6. Someone just sees the headline
- 3:18of 30° and thinks they're cooking.
- 3:20But it could be 25 degrees, 100% humidity, and that's far worse.
- 3:24So sounds like yeah, that low 20s high humidity is from
- 3:30Ireland's made its way over to Spain.
- 3:34Slightly different point of view on it as well, but the the UV
- 3:38side of things, I was intrigued by that.
- 3:40Becky's been educating me that like say of an evening time,
- 3:435:00 PM, although it could still be 30° and the sunshine and if
- 3:47the UV is like no down to 234, you're pretty safe to be exposed
- 3:53on the skin. But if the UV is like ace plus,
- 3:57it could be only 2223° and you'd be getting fried.
- 4:02As a, as a parent of very fair skinned and orange haired little
- 4:07ones, you you become very conscious of the UV index and
- 4:11you can get like a little widget on your phone.
- 4:14And so yeah, I think anything 3 and above you, you got to put
- 4:17some sun cream on, or at least house enforces that at home.
- 4:22So people might be listening to this thinking like, how did you
- 4:25not know that? That's obvious.
- 4:26But I guess that's where like golden hour comes from then,
- 4:28because you're protected from AUV point of view and you can
- 4:31just get that last bit of tan top up.
- 4:34You're, you were very bronzed last summer, Ryan, So I'm
- 4:38assuming you'll be, you'll be straight on to that bit of is it
- 4:41bad oil or coconut oil or what's your secret?
- 4:46No, I actually burn pretty quickly, but and then it peels
- 4:49and it's just rinse and repeats go brown pale, go brown pale.
- 4:52It's vicious cycle. There you go, Bryce.
- 4:57We've got plenty of running to talk anyway, so we we best get
- 4:59into it. We had New York City Marathon
- 5:02last night and domestically Noosa Bolt happened and then
- 5:05we'll have all the usual fun news item agenda, news item
- 5:11agenda things cropping up here and there.
- 5:13So we'll start with New York, I guess.
- 5:15So low Noosa happened. New York is worldwide and global
- 5:19and concerns everyone. So bit of background on the
- 5:23race. I'm sure everyone's familiar
- 5:25with it, but obviously it's one of what was 6, what is now 7
- 5:30major marathons across the world, first round in 1970.
- 5:33And the cool thing about this one is it's it's organized by
- 5:36the New York Rd. runners. So I gather that they are like
- 5:40huge now and obviously have so much involvement, but it's
- 5:45literally been established by like the local New York Road
- 5:48Running Club. The first ever rendition of it
- 5:52was just 4 laps around Central Park and there's only 127
- 5:57entrants and it must been a bit of a shit day because only 55 of
- 6:00them finished. Since then it's graduated into a
- 6:07point to point course because part of the reputation that goes
- 6:11with it is like the five boroughs.
- 6:13So it starts in Staten Island. So this change happened in 1976.
- 6:18Starting Staten Island, you run through Brooklyn, Queens, the
- 6:21Bronx and Manhattan and you actually start up a pretty steep
- 6:26bridge. So I think like that first mile
- 6:28or so, you just send it uphill. And then the second mile in
- 6:32direct comparison, you send it downhill.
- 6:34So no chance to get much rhythm going, but you still finish in
- 6:37Central Park. And for context of the results
- 6:40that we're going to talk about, the men's course record is Two O
- 6:44458 by Tamrat Toller 2 years ago and the women's stands from 2003
- 6:50or well, spoiler alert, it's stored up until yesterday from
- 6:552003 by Margaret Akayo, 2/22/31. She's a Kenyan lady, so slightly
- 7:05ahead of her time back in 2003, running 222 Miss Margaret.
- 7:15Just a comment on that men's record.
- 7:17So because didn't Tolla toll? Tolla dominated the Paris
- 7:22Olympics, didn't he, in the marathon and he would have ran
- 7:28in the year prior? The fastest time on, I think New
- 7:33York Marathon has about 250 odd meters of elevation.
- 7:36I remember that Paris course had quite a elevation profile to it
- 7:42and this guy's come in and run the fastest time in New York,
- 7:45you know, the year before the Olympics.
- 7:46And then he didn't get selected right.
- 7:48Like he remember he was a late call up I think for the
- 7:51Ethiopian team. He wasn't in the in the first 3.
- 7:54So I don't know. Yeah, you're right.
- 7:58Crazy when you look back at it. Now you say it.
- 8:01He obliterated that Paris course, didn't he?
- 8:04Yeah, and clearly, you know, did damage on what is sort of
- 8:09renowned, maybe ahead prior to Sydney.
- 8:12Sydney's probably the hardest course going around right?
- 8:16How New York is. Good question.
- 8:21I don't remember hearing him since then.
- 8:25I look up his world. Athletics whilst you do that,
- 8:27we'll we'll start with the women's race and the women's
- 8:30results. So headline is that it was won
- 8:32by Helen O'berry of Kenya. She runs for on in a course
- 8:37record to 1951. So for ages that 220 barrier for
- 8:42women was seen as like, I don't know about breaking 2 for men,
- 8:46but it was kind of like that insurmountable barrier that was
- 8:49almost impossible to breakthrough.
- 8:51And now Helena Beer is running sub 220 over New York, which is,
- 8:55as we've just been saying, a famously difficult course to run
- 8:58fast on in second was Sharon Lokady, her country woman who
- 9:02runs for Under Armour. And it's funny because when you
- 9:04see this look at the on the stream, you instantly like
- 9:08associate that Under Armour vest to her because there aren't all
- 9:11that many Under Armour athletes out there, at least I don't
- 9:15think so. So when you see someone wearing
- 9:17that vest, they're kind of like instantly recognizable.
- 9:21And 3rd was Sheila Chepkarui, also of Kenya, so Kenya 123.
- 9:26She runs for Adidas in 2/20/24. Going further down the results,
- 9:31there was AUS woman in Fourth First American Fiona O'Keefe
- 9:3622449 and there was one of my country women and one of Owen's
- 9:42country women also in the top 10.
- 9:44So we had Jess Warner Judd on her debut runs for Hokka or Hoka
- 9:492/24/45. And Fenolla, I hope you said
- 9:52that right? McCormack of Ireland, our sixth
- 9:55Lady 227 flat. And with Tamara Tola he ran
- 10:02London earlier this year and he ran 20442 which gone 5th, so
- 10:06that was his only run this year. Sad how you can run 20452 and
- 10:14become seemingly irrelevant in terms of how the in terms of how
- 10:23that women's race went. So then if Dean, you stayed up
- 10:26for it, or if I, when you had it on live, I was, I tried to stay
- 10:30up for it and then I was, I was slowly falling asleep, but I
- 10:33could just, I was like, I'll watch the 1st 10 minutes, first
- 10:36half hour and then you know, like you chip away at it like
- 10:39this and then it's getting close towards the end.
- 10:42Then so you're like, I'll just see the women's race finish and
- 10:44then next thing you know, it's bloody midnight.
- 10:47But anyway, the the women's race that they split.
- 10:53I, I, I didn't bother this time because you know, Perth time, I
- 10:57think it starts at like 10:00 PM our, our local time.
- 11:00And every year I'll like make it to maybe halfway.
- 11:04But the race that they inevitably, because do they have
- 11:06pay? I don't think they have
- 11:07pacemakers in this right. So it's like a match race.
- 11:10And so as a result, it's never that hot from the start and it's
- 11:14always you're sort of waiting for someone to make a move.
- 11:16And I always fall asleep before it gets exciting.
- 11:18But I do remember watching it in 2019, I think a couple of the
- 11:25Aussies that that trained up for that went to the world champs in
- 11:30Doha. They they raced it like
- 11:35afterwards. So I did stay up probably that
- 11:37time, but that was probably by exception.
- 11:40Was that when Brett Robinson ran there?
- 11:44Trying to remember if Brett did it, but I remember Ellie Pashley
- 11:48and Sinead Diver. So they both raced the 10K at
- 11:51Doha and then the Inside Running podcast did like a row two, I
- 11:55think. And so you could, so that was
- 11:56one of the first two like row 2 to for a specific like for their
- 12:02race of the world champs. And then they lead up to New
- 12:04York. And so then now we're in the
- 12:05lightly women's group at the start.
- 12:07So I remember watching it then, but I don't recall.
- 12:10I just recall getting to about halfway and getting too tight
- 12:13so. And that's exactly similar to
- 12:15how it happened for me last night because I was like, I'll
- 12:18just watch the star. And then you tell yourself that,
- 12:21oh, well, you've wasted time basically just watching them
- 12:24jog. So you might as well actually
- 12:25make some use of staying up for the first hour and say it
- 12:28finished. So that's how we got sucked into
- 12:31it. But the leaders, there was a
- 12:34pretty big group of them and the women, they split halfway in
- 12:367101, which is 222 pace. So you can see from that that
- 12:41they've negative split the race. And I think that's kind of what
- 12:45the course leans towards. And because the men kind of done
- 12:49something similar as well, although there is a big hill
- 12:52towards the back end. So it's very much up and down.
- 12:56There's a group of five beyond halfway.
- 12:58Once it got down to the nitty gritty, and that was Obiri,
- 13:01Lekedi, Chip Kurui, Saffan Hassan.
- 13:04She was kind of forwards, backwards, sideways here, there
- 13:08and everywhere in typical Saffan style.
- 13:10You'd think she'd been dropped. And I bet you the other women
- 13:13were like kind of looking around saying she wasn't there made-up.
- 13:17And then next minute she's just breathing down the necks again.
- 13:19And the American woman, Fiona O'Keefe.
- 13:21So she, she was actually looking really good as well.
- 13:24She was almost on the front at some points.
- 13:26And then as it kind of got to around 10K to go, there was just
- 13:30the three of them who was the eventual podium getters and the
- 13:34commentator. I don't know who it was because
- 13:36it was like the American stream I was watching.
- 13:39They referenced that these three were the 2223 and 24 winners
- 13:44respectively. So like some serious accolades
- 13:47between them and Chef Kurui, who is the reigning champion.
- 13:53She won last year. She was the first to fall off
- 13:55around 38 K. It then became Helen O'biri and
- 14:00Lakadi. And then I think around AK or a
- 14:04mile to go, Helen O'biri made their move.
- 14:07And it wasn't really one of those where, you know, sometimes
- 14:10now you see in that it just kind of gets wound up and they, they
- 14:14can go with each other. Whereas when O'berry went here,
- 14:18literally after like 5 yards, she'd done a shoulder check and
- 14:21like like Caddy just was in that one gear.
- 14:23She couldn't do anything. So she went on to win.
- 14:27By how many seconds is that? 16 seconds?
- 14:30And that was yeah, over like pretty much the last K or mile.
- 14:33So you can see the damage that she's done there.
- 14:36And I think in reading about the race, it was they were very
- 14:42confident from O'berry's camp going into this that like kind
- 14:45of the training that she'd done. Now she was in pretty much the
- 14:49best spot she's ever been in. And that's kind of reflected,
- 14:55excuse me, some of these takeaways that I found must say,
- 14:57to be fair, let's run. I know it gets a lot of slander.
- 15:01And we've said like that we listened to the podcast and we
- 15:03find them funny. But even like the articles that
- 15:05they write, they're so informative.
- 15:07Like the the data that they dig out, it would, it must take them
- 15:10hours like cross checking all these things because you might
- 15:13get a theory like that must be the first time they've done that
- 15:17in ages. And then must take you hours to
- 15:20then sit there and sift through to cross check it.
- 15:22And then with half of the points, you might then actually
- 15:25find that you've disproven yourself and it's a waste of
- 15:27time. I felt like, yeah, somewhat like
- 15:32even like the Sidious mags and let's runs of the sort of
- 15:37running media world. Some of it felt like a bit
- 15:39underground media, like not very mainstream.
- 15:43But I do feel like it's starting to bubble to the surface a bit
- 15:47more as running becomes a bit more popular.
- 15:49Like, is it Chris Chavez, the Sidious mag guy?
- 15:52Like he was part of the like main commentary wasn't he for
- 15:57this? Have I got that wrong?
- 15:59No city has done their own broadcast and like it was
- 16:02sponsored or brought to you by Hocker and they were in like a
- 16:06genuine studio so they don't like a watch along on YouTube.
- 16:10Or maybe I was thinking his commentary of the fight.
- 16:13Was he maybe part of the 5K commentary the day before?
- 16:16Perhaps? Maybe, yeah, but it feels like
- 16:21it's like. Becoming more popular, what
- 16:23they're doing right. Yeah, unlike it, it's so good to
- 16:26kind of because you, you read the results often and you, you
- 16:29can draw your own conclusion, but then some of the the
- 16:32reflections and the insights that they'll give you like you,
- 16:36I don't think you'd just never think of it off the top of your
- 16:38head. So yeah, shout out to them
- 16:40because you know, some of this stuff comes from them.
- 16:42They pointed out that it's the the 7th year in a row that a
- 16:45Kenyan woman has won New York. So making that what you will.
- 16:50But clearly there's like some athlete, coach, agents,
- 16:55relationships going on with New York there and obviously the
- 16:59fact that Kenya are ridiculously talented at runner.
- 17:04So O'berry's kind of career record over the marathon now
- 17:11goes. She was sixth in New York on
- 17:13debut. She then went and won Boston, NY
- 17:17and Boston in a three in a row. She was then third at the
- 17:21Olympics and I think she had a bit of an interrupted build to
- 17:25that Olympics. So I mean, still getting on the
- 17:27podium there. And then she's come back and she
- 17:33was second place in New York in 2024 and then in Boston in 2025
- 17:38to both the second and third place finishes here.
- 17:41And then obviously she's come back and won one again.
- 17:43So all those marathons, they're either American majors or the
- 17:48Olympics. She's had one sixth place finish
- 17:51and everything else is on the podium.
- 17:54She doesn't, but in Boston and New York neither of them are.
- 17:57They don't have Pacers. So she seems to just pick the
- 18:00actual like racing races to do. And like that would have been a
- 18:03nice payday for her. So like whatever appearance fee,
- 18:07I think she gets 100 grand for the win.
- 18:09For breaking the record, she probably gets another 100 grand.
- 18:12And so you can see why she does the actual tactical races
- 18:16because well, I think she's run like 217, but I don't think she
- 18:20is like a 214 hand marathoner. So I'm not.
- 18:25She's again such a really strange and like the way she
- 18:30moves. She doesn't look fluid at all,
- 18:32like her hands are nearly hitting her in the face, but
- 18:35it's effective. Yeah, she looks like she's in
- 18:38trouble, like way before she actually is, because she's just
- 18:41swaying all over the shop. She must have, I don't know if
- 18:44she either has an incredibly strong core to like carry her
- 18:47through these sways or an incredibly weak core to allow
- 18:50her to do that, but it's pretty effective.
- 18:53Whatever it is. Both overall was the first
- 18:56American woman, Fiona O'Keefe, and that's the the fastest
- 19:00American ever. So I'm sure she will have some
- 19:02sort of a bonus in line for her there by almost 2 minutes.
- 19:06So like, she's completely smashed the American record on
- 19:10that course and all three of the podium getters broke the course
- 19:14record. Obviously, it only now lives
- 19:16with O'berry. But this American woman, Fiona,
- 19:19she was only 18 seconds behind the previous fastest ever run on
- 19:23that course. And I think some of this is kind
- 19:26of down to the weather conditions, so that it was
- 19:29around 9° on the start line and rose to around 12 or 13 with
- 19:34somehow like the all the guys who ran the race must be saying
- 19:38the prayers. They got like less than 5 kmh
- 19:41wind, 2 miles an hour or three miles an hour, which is, I mean,
- 19:45I don't know about New York, whether it's typically windy or
- 19:47not, but even if it's typically still, that is like bizarrely
- 19:51still, isn't it? Yeah, I think that's why Tip
- 19:54Trolley wore his long sleeve top because he's going to be a bit
- 19:56cold. What do you guys make it up?
- 20:00You let the muffs get out. It mustn't even like before.
- 20:05Like, I'm sorry, I don't know how nice are going to swing this
- 20:09to make it like make you go faster, but it just can't.
- 20:13Like, I don't, I don't, I really, really, really don't get
- 20:17this one. And yeah, I don't know,
- 20:22speechless, you know? At least with Kippy Aegon speed
- 20:25suits to actually look like pretty impressive like it had it
- 20:29was all black and streamlined and I'd like these whatever
- 20:32nodes they wear on them. Whereas Kipchogi's thing just
- 20:35looked like he got it out of an op shop.
- 20:37Like trying to be a bit edgy wearing something with a few
- 20:39holes in it. And you are right that Nike were
- 20:42trying to spit or at least you know Ben Johnson, the American
- 20:45guy who runs about 6 marathons a year.
- 20:48He, I don't know if he has like a bit of a contractual thing
- 20:52with Nike, but he seems to be a bit of a mouthpiece for them and
- 20:54a big fanboy. And he was, he'd done a post
- 20:58like talking about all the aerodynamics and how it's like
- 21:04technologically advanced and blah, blah.
- 21:07So you're expecting like big things.
- 21:09And then when you see it's just like literally a loose fitting
- 21:13jumper with holes in, you're like, how the hell?
- 21:17What you'll see Brick and Sore come out with one of these and
- 21:21charge people freaking £500. And well, yeah, because it's got
- 21:26all the holes and they're actually using less material.
- 21:30That's the thing with all this running gear, like the lighter
- 21:32and less material they use, like the more expensive it is, and
- 21:37probably because the materials probably like better quality or
- 21:40it's just like more expensive because it's so light.
- 21:43But yeah, there's no way a freaking long sleeve talk with a
- 21:48few holes and it can make your own faster no matter what way
- 21:51they swing it. Apparently it's been used in the
- 21:54in the ultra scene before. Is it what's the knife like
- 21:58product line? Is it like ACG or something like
- 22:02OCG like the outdoor activewear one?
- 22:05And then they obviously just put Kip jogies and then running over
- 22:08it. But yeah, I don't know.
- 22:09I'm not sure it might might cool you a little better because it's
- 22:12got the holes in but in 10° do you need cooling down?
- 22:17You probably just want to look good, feel good, run good in
- 22:21your slim line vest going further down through the results
- 22:24then. So Jess just Warner Judd,
- 22:26British lady on debut debut at the marathon.
- 22:29She finished 7th overall. So I think that'll still keep
- 22:32her in the in the payday there and straight in at #8 all time
- 22:37for the British runners, which is like pretty damn impressive
- 22:40to on your debut go and go into the top ten of all time.
- 22:44So she ran 2/24/45 and we referenced the other week Paula
- 22:50Radcliffe's British record, which is 215, which is just
- 22:54obscure. But then number 2 is 221, so
- 22:57kind of within range. And again in New York, like if
- 23:02you put her in Valencia, like, what does she run a minute or
- 23:05two faster? Yeah, and that's the thing.
- 23:10Her, her PBS here, I was looking at them because we were talking
- 23:13the other week, weren't me about how women convert so well often.
- 23:17So she's got a 14515 KPB, 303510 KPB and 67 O 7 half marathon PB
- 23:27which are probably their thereabouts for the 224 time.
- 23:32However this year she hasn't like sort of shown that PB form
- 23:37she'd run 343154 rather 69 O 7 and most recently 7025.
- 23:46I think she had she's in a race or something and she had a
- 23:49seizure. I think she's epilepsy.
- 23:51So like this is our first like big race back since being
- 23:54diagnosed, which makes the result even like that more
- 23:57impressive that she that she has that illness and then she's
- 24:02yeah, it's major. I'm not.
- 24:03It's 224, girl. It's interesting with the race
- 24:08selection like because we mentioned it last week with Joe
- 24:10Clacker choosing to make his debut there and we kind of like
- 24:13theorized why that might be. And there was obviously a couple
- 24:16of debutantes across the men's and the women's and they they've
- 24:20all kind of landed on New York. So maybe just doing the the
- 24:24course that OK, it's not going to absolutely kill you because
- 24:28it's like insanely hard, but it just kind of takes the pressure
- 24:31away from being fixated on a certain pace and you just kind
- 24:36of run a bit more freely maybe and just enjoy it.
- 24:40And like, there's so much been, there's so much sad for not
- 24:44going out super hard. So I think the last went to
- 24:46halfway was a 65 or something like that.
- 24:50So like they're not right. Like if it was a paced race,
- 24:55they're going through that on like 63 and all them lads are
- 24:57well able to go through and 63. So they're not popping if you
- 25:01get me. They're finishing strong.
- 25:02They're probably running it the best way.
- 25:05Umm, unlike even like Charles Hicks, like he backed, even
- 25:10though he backed Clacker in a 1260, yeah, go under 210.
- 25:13He ran 20959 and but I think Joe Clacker ran the marathon without
- 25:18a watch, which is pretty nuts. Even you wouldn't do that, no.
- 25:25That's very brave. I guess going to the like kind
- 25:30of how you land on New York for your debut and thinking about
- 25:33taking the paces elements out of it.
- 25:35It probably helps with the training as well because it
- 25:38would remove the kind of temptation to get locked in on a
- 25:44like three 10s or three O fives is marathon pace.
- 25:48You would more just do the training and let the pace come
- 25:51to you before race day. Whereas like if you have a
- 25:54specific time goal in mind going into it, you kinda attach
- 25:58yourself to that pace in training when maybe you're not
- 26:01necessarily there. And actually in Alex years most
- 26:05recent YouTube video, it documents him in Valencia and he
- 26:08says it was his like to his detriment that he was so fixed
- 26:13on a time goal that when he looked at his watch and he's
- 26:17seen let's say a three O 5, even though they're running into a
- 26:19headwind, it sort of had that negative effect on him.
- 26:22Whereas previously he wouldn't have went into a time goal.
- 26:25He would have just went in and raced the race.
- 26:27So yeah, totally agree. Moving further down the results,
- 26:31there's just a couple more, so 9th overall for the women.
- 26:33Amanda Vestry personally never heard The Vet, but apparently
- 26:36the fastest debut by an American woman ever, 22540 wants to watch
- 26:43and 10th overall Owens woman Fenola McCormack.
- 26:48So she is, well, you should never ask a woman her age, but
- 26:53maybe I can, I can state her age, can't I?
- 26:55She's 41, she's been to 5 Olympics and then she just ran
- 27:00227 dead the fifth fastest marathon of her career at 41.
- 27:04So there's hope into our 40s yet.
- 27:09Absolutely. I'm sure even Snake Diver, she's
- 27:12pushing 50 and she's still flying.
- 27:14So yeah, no excuses for anyone. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 27:22There's one thing I did notice though.
- 27:25I don't know if I was just kind of falling asleep and drifting
- 27:28in and out of consciousness at the wrong parts, but lots of the
- 27:32parts of the course were quite flat.
- 27:34And I know that sounds weird because not flat in terms of
- 27:37terrain, in terms of like atmosphere and people out on the
- 27:39streets. But I'm sure New York's supposed
- 27:42to be renowned for like having crazy atmosphere all over the
- 27:45course. So I don't want to say that with
- 27:49definitive confidence. Maybe it's just some of the
- 27:51parts I tuned into was through some random backstreet.
- 27:55Yeah, I think the bridges, people can't get on them because
- 27:59there's a few bridges they have to run across and that's where a
- 28:01lot of the incline is. And I think apart from Dublin
- 28:06Marathon, I think New York is the one I'd want to do most.
- 28:10I think it's they look savage running through like the five
- 28:13different like boroughs and I think you'll be under.
- 28:17What a way to see the city. No open top tour bus, just go
- 28:20and do the marathon. Exactly it.
- 28:24Could be another New York Marathon debutant on our hands
- 28:27here in the men's race. I just whizzed through the
- 28:30results and then we can talk about it some more.
- 28:32So Benson Kipruto won in two O 8 O nine.
- 28:35Second place was also a 2O8O9. They were separated by three
- 28:40hundredths of a second, not 3/10 of a second, three hundredths.
- 28:44Alexander Mutisau. 3rd place was Albert Korea two O 857, so 50
- 28:51seconds or so back. 4th was the British debutant Patrick Diva in
- 28:56two O 858. And then a couple more notable
- 28:59results which we may talk about some more.
- 29:02The first American was a guy again completely unfamiliar
- 29:05with, Joel Rechow 2O956. Charles Hicks, now American
- 29:11athletes, former formerly represented GB in two O 959 also
- 29:17on debut. Sandra Moen, Norwegian record
- 29:20holder 2/10/15 for 8th. Joe Clacker, the American
- 29:25debutant who we talked about YouTube Diaries 10th in two 1037
- 29:29and then the great man himself passing out in 17th.
- 29:34Well, not physically passing out, but passing out on his
- 29:37elite marathon in Korea in 17th for Elliot Kipchogi 21436.
- 29:45So, yeah, I mean, I didn't manage to completely stay up for
- 29:48the end of the men's race, but once I seen the women's and then
- 29:52the men's was up to the stage where there was four of them
- 29:54left, one of them being Paddy Diva on his debut.
- 29:59And I was like, Jess, I'm going to have to like stay up for
- 30:01this. What on earth's going on?
- 30:02Like this British guy on his debut is just rolling with like
- 30:06these three elite marathoners, multiple major winners between
- 30:10them. One of my like reflections on
- 30:12that is I wonder, I think it was around like it was beyond 30K
- 30:17anyway when it became them for what is going through his mind
- 30:20when he's like looking round over his shoulder, he's like,
- 30:23OK, it's me and these three. I'm at West going to finish
- 30:28fourth in a major marathon and this is my debut.
- 30:31Like you must be. Can you relate to it?
- 30:33You're like, you're getting so excited and so giddy, but then
- 30:36also like trying to lock yourself back in and be like,
- 30:39no, there's still, I'm not just going to finish 4th.
- 30:43I could finish third, second or even first.
- 30:45Like focus on the task in hand. I think something that might
- 30:51play in the back of your mind though, with the marathon is
- 30:53like, like you always know, like fuel supply could be an issue,
- 30:57right? And so if you've not judged it
- 31:00right, it could come very quickly that you are in trouble.
- 31:04So, you know, you'd be so fired up and you'd be wanting to send
- 31:08it, but you also, when it's your first marathon, you, you've, you
- 31:12would have heard so much about the, the feelings of the back
- 31:15part of the marathon and the, you know, hitting the wall and
- 31:18all that sort of stuff. I wonder if that's also playing
- 31:21a, playing a role around when, when to let go.
- 31:24Yes. Hussain, he'd done an interview
- 31:28afterwards and I think he said something like they were taught
- 31:31the toy and with the marathon potentially for 2028.
- 31:34So I imagine that kind of sways it in favour of the marathon now
- 31:38after like how do you just go and finish 4th on debut?
- 31:41Like if we compare to a male caress who's held in insanely
- 31:45high regard in terms of a British marathoner, and that's
- 31:49kind of the level at which he's reached so far in his career.
- 31:53And he's kind of been seen as extremely elite now for multiple
- 31:58years. And this guy just walks in on
- 31:59debut and goes bang, here I am. And almost comparable to months
- 32:04in a way. Like he hasn't quite cracked the
- 32:05podium himself. Well, he's run like 6011 for the
- 32:10half like he's, he's well up there like he is really, really
- 32:15good so. He's a seriously legit athlete.
- 32:19Like what? What is over PBS there?
- 32:23He's around 2744 for 10K. 13 O 4 and that BU track indoors early
- 32:29last year. But then if you compare those
- 32:34PBS to Joe Clacker going into it, so he's ran 1254, so he's
- 32:39got 10 seconds on him under 5K and 27 O, 7 / 10 K.
- 32:45And obviously he's run 210 for 10.
- 32:47So it shows that just having that ceiling isn't a guarantee
- 32:52conversion. So he's he's absolutely nailed
- 32:55it. But like that, this is that PMO
- 32:59group again, that popping out some ridiculous times like Fiona
- 33:05O'Keefe trains. Think Allister Craig, an Irish,
- 33:09He's Irish, he's the oldest human group and they've had
- 33:11Peter Lynch who had the Irish national record and offered her
- 33:16and has some ties to Puma, the Irish Martin record holder.
- 33:20Like they're popping out some Patrick, who's the Aussie guy,
- 33:25and I think he's with them, yeah.
- 33:28So it's a pretty like legit group.
- 33:30So he's US based this petty D diva.
- 33:35Which I was going to make this point like, because do you
- 33:39reckon that athletes who are from wherever they're from their
- 33:44home country and then they move to the US, they're like, so they
- 33:47fly under the radar because the home nation can't relate to them
- 33:51so much because they're out the picture.
- 33:53They're not racing domestically on the circuit and then the the
- 33:57nation where they live. So Americans in this instance,
- 34:02then they're not giving them any praise or too concerned of them
- 34:05either because they've got no emotional connection to them.
- 34:08So like it's almost irrelevant whether he's there running good
- 34:11or not to them. And it's the same with like Kai
- 34:14Robinson and like just anyone else basically, who just moves
- 34:17out the country. Yeah, and the hard part is
- 34:19because the US is so big, right? Like it's hard to be get it.
- 34:24Make an aim for yourself there because in order to win a race
- 34:27in the US, like, like you say, this is one of his local
- 34:30marathons perhaps, but the depth of competition is so great that
- 34:34it's hard to really stand out in that crowd.
- 34:39Yeah. So where you may finish, if
- 34:41you're British or Australian, you may be in the top five in
- 34:44the country. So you will be like held in such
- 34:46high regard. If you then just in the mixer in
- 34:49America, you might be like 20th. So therefore you are going to be
- 34:52just mixed in with everyone else and somewhat overlooked.
- 34:56But yeah, insane from him and very promising.
- 34:59In terms of the actual finish, yeah, it came down to a photo
- 35:02finish on the line. So the guy who won, Benson
- 35:07Kipruto, he'd actually separated himself from Munyao within the
- 35:12last, like, UK or so, and he was running ahead of him maybe like
- 35:165 metres or something. And he kept giving it a shoulder
- 35:19check here and there to make sure he was safe.
- 35:22And then you can see on the photo on the line, he's like
- 35:25celebrate and he knows he's got it, but he doesn't know that
- 35:29Munyao is literally like closing like a train and trying to steal
- 35:33that tape from him. So they both actually like raise
- 35:36their arms crossing the line and the photo finish.
- 35:39Yeah, They had to define where the finish line is actually
- 35:44taken from, where the time and recording is stopped because
- 35:48when you look at it visually, it's like literally so hard to
- 35:52separate. Bizarre that like this marathon
- 35:56has just ended like that. And the ones in the World
- 35:59Championships, particularly the men's ones, like when do you
- 36:01ever see that happen otherwise? It's the pure because we're just
- 36:06gotten so used to them. Time trials like that Valencia
- 36:08half marathon, fair enough. It was like a savage time, but
- 36:13your man and Kajaja was just running solo his whole time.
- 36:16Like it's actually not fun to watch.
- 36:19You get what I mean? Do you think this has anything
- 36:23to do with it? So given like all the tech and
- 36:26stuff now and the information sharing, like everyone has a
- 36:30similar almost playing field in that everyone's using similar
- 36:34shoes, similar nutrition, blah blah blah.
- 36:36And everyone at the end of the day has the same or a human
- 36:40body. Therefore, when everyone's
- 36:43training the same human body and using all the same tools,
- 36:47there's that many bloody people in the world.
- 36:49Ultimately, it's going to be hard to separate two people.
- 36:54Like you can only physically push the human body in itself so
- 36:59far. Therefore there might be a limit
- 37:01and everyone is just like so bloody close to that limit that
- 37:05no one can kind of separate themselves from everyone else.
- 37:09The only way to Well, the Kenyans are good at separating
- 37:11themselves, aren't they? Well, they they have found some
- 37:17vices to do so. Yeah, hard work day.
- 37:21And Speaking of which, it's well timed that you've brought that
- 37:23up because as good as this guy is, Benson Caprusso, whereas he
- 37:28is accolades, he's he's got the hat trick of the American
- 37:30majors. He's won Boston, NY and Chicago,
- 37:33first person ever to do so. He's also won.
- 37:37Is it Tokyo? Yeah, 2O2.
- 37:42One of his crew, so he's coached by Where's the guy's name I
- 37:46wrote down before? He's coached by this guy.
- 37:49Anyway, I'm one of the younger fellows in their group.
- 37:52Has been popped in recent history, but the guy also
- 37:57coaches Sebastian Sarway and Jabeth Evans.
- 38:00What are you trying to say? I'm just saying there's Dopin is
- 38:05never too far from the storyline, from the headline,
- 38:10directly or indirectly. Claudio Berardelli is the coach.
- 38:16It sounds a bit Italian. Does he?
- 38:20Mates with them, our doctor. They're Italian.
- 38:24Snap. I mean, in fairness, we don't
- 38:28know what they're up to, but that group, they've won three of
- 38:31the majors this year because Saway has won Berlin and London
- 38:35and then Group 2 has just gone and won that.
- 38:38So they're obviously doing something right.
- 38:40Maybe a couple of things, right. Another cynic thing that come
- 38:42out from that is final 8K, or in the article it says 5.15 point,
- 38:472 miles, but I just converted it to K.
- 38:50He ran that, which is about 30 meters of elevation gain coming
- 38:55through Central Park and stuff. He ran that at 2 flat pace,
- 38:58which is obscene. And Munyao was with him like the
- 39:01whole way. So there's two of them
- 39:03basically, who, who ran that close.
- 39:06Like they're running both of them.
- 39:07Boys probably break 60 for the half.
- 39:10So if they go through the half marathon in 65, like that must
- 39:14feel like a Sunday long run for them just tipping along.
- 39:18So to be able to kick off that like if they should be well able
- 39:22to kick down hard. Yeah, and you can see it on the
- 39:28stream, like when they then the first half there's like I think
- 39:32it said there's 21 of them that split in the league group
- 39:35halfway. Like no wonder that there's 21
- 39:38of them. It's just the literary jogging.
- 39:40And like you say, because there's no pacemakers, no one's
- 39:43forced to do anything, so no one wants to do anything.
- 39:47Like Dean could have been the extra halfway with him.
- 39:52Would have been some bloody storyline that Dean you could
- 39:57have just stepped off with the Keely.
- 40:02You and him cut to pace them through halfway.
- 40:04I got the same appearance for you.
- 40:06I would. All right, let's finish these
- 40:11results. So that first American guy who's
- 40:136th overall, Joel Richow, never had them before.
- 40:16Seen a photo of him coming across the finish line.
- 40:19He's in a Puma singlet and he's got a pair of ASIC shoes on.
- 40:22So like rumor has it, he's unsponsored and he's just ran
- 40:25sub 210. First American at a major, an
- 40:28American major. Bizarre probably won't remain
- 40:32unsponsive for too long. No, I can't imagine that.
- 40:36He's got locks like Seth. I seen him at the so there was
- 40:41the big group 21 and he was just off the back of them for ages.
- 40:44And I was like, he doesn't like look like you're, I don't know,
- 40:48traditional runner cause of his big massive hair.
- 40:51And I was like, who is this kid just hanging on the back?
- 40:54And he came through so well. So like 209 like perfect on.
- 40:58I thought you were going to recreate that McGregor meme then
- 41:01who the fuck is that guy? 7th overall was Charles Hicks.
- 41:09So he was born in the UK to American parents, lived in the
- 41:13UK for 12 years and raced on the like the British badge or title
- 41:20if you like. But I don't think he ever like
- 41:23made a proper senior vest. He raced in the under 23's and
- 41:27stuff. I know that for sure.
- 41:29And then I think it was only some point last year he
- 41:32confirmed he was going to represent the US.
- 41:35And he actually cited something to do with like politics within
- 41:39the system kind of thing as one of his reasonings.
- 41:42And that he just sees himself more as he resonates with
- 41:45America more so now, which I think is fair enough.
- 41:48Like I know if you make the comparison to footballers
- 41:51choosing to like represent England and stuff it's stupid
- 41:54because often the ties are like absolutely clutching at straws.
- 41:58But this guy, both his parents are American and from the age of
- 42:0212 he's lived there for 12 years.
- 42:04So by the time you get to 24, you probably are feeling pretty
- 42:08American. He even sounds American, to be
- 42:11very long. Yeah.
- 42:13Does he? Yeah.
- 42:14Like if you were him like all that British politics and their
- 42:18selection policies, it could be mad not to go to America.
- 42:23He definitely would have got money for common second American
- 42:25F and he's going to get better funding.
- 42:27Everything is going to be better from the American point of view.
- 42:31Whereas UK like might even pick him for a team because you were
- 42:35on 2O9. Like I don't think that
- 42:37qualifies him for the Europeans. I think it's two O 930 or
- 42:41something. And so, yeah, I think it's a no
- 42:45brainer, unfortunately. He did benefit a bit from
- 42:49because he won a couple of European cross country titles,
- 42:53titles in the in there was it under 20 threes.
- 42:56That was in Dublin. I always watched that one.
- 42:59I'll get out. Yeah.
- 43:01That's cool. Yeah.
- 43:04And he was training with his training partner was Kyle
- 43:07Robinson, wasn't he? Were they Stanford guys?
- 43:10Yeah, and they were both dominate.
- 43:14Well, they were fairly dominant, weren't they, during the that
- 43:16NCAA? So was that still around the
- 43:19time of Conor Manz? Maybe.
- 43:20I can't remember if he was maybe a bit younger, wasn't he?
- 43:24But but yeah, that I still, I remember him because obviously I
- 43:30remember following Kyle Robinson's NCAA running career.
- 43:36Yeah, I seen that when that Paddy Diva won, I think he won
- 43:4010,000 meter NCAA title and he out kicked Mance to do that.
- 43:45All right, 10th overall was. Sorry.
- 43:48Yes, that's right. Yeah, yeah.
- 43:52Full, full circle. Yeah, 10th was Joe Clecker,
- 43:5721037 on his debut. So yeah, as I said before, his
- 44:025K10K half PBS 125427 O 7 and 61 O 6.
- 44:09So I don't know about you both, but I reckon there's a clear
- 44:13difference from his five and his 10K time to his half time.
- 44:18As in not quite as impressive. And then obviously I mean it's
- 44:23only his debut, so like and it's a solid enough run.
- 44:26Then his 210 marathon also isn't quite reflective of being like a
- 44:30sub 13 on paper, but I'm sure he'll be pretty happy top 10210
- 44:39finishing time. However, maybe not so happy
- 44:41being third American with a couple of other debutants ahead
- 44:44of him. But learn experience and first
- 44:49one done. He'll probably learn a shit ton
- 44:52about his fuel and I'm so interested interested to see how
- 44:55much he got down and like how it all went, whether you have to
- 44:58stop taking X kilometers or whatever.
- 45:03He reminds me of Jack Rayner for some reason.
- 45:06I feel like he's like the American version of Jack Rayner.
- 45:08Like what is Times? And yeah, but I'd love to be No
- 45:13go on. And he's my.
- 45:16Yeah, maybe that's why. He seems that chill as well,
- 45:20doesn't he? Yeah, it seems pretty cool.
- 45:24I think he'd be chucked, right? Like, I mean, he was talking
- 45:26about learning the marathon and fuelling and respecting it and,
- 45:30like, based on those splits, right?
- 45:32It seems like he judged it very well.
- 45:34And yeah, it's interesting, like you say, that Patty Davis
- 45:39probably like the benchmark for being just off the podium and
- 45:42what what is he 2 minutes away? So like, which is, I mean, it
- 45:48sounds like a lot in terms of raw time, but really it's 3
- 45:52seconds a kilometer. Like, it's not, you know, that's
- 45:56sort of touchable. And just because a couple of
- 45:59people have had like an amazing day doesn't mean that your run
- 46:04is shifter basically because theirs is amazing.
- 46:06Like you just have to judge your one on it in its own right.
- 46:10And when you do that, it's it's a good run.
- 46:13Lastly, the the great man Elliot Kipchogi unfortunately fell back
- 46:18to 17th. He was pretty much with them
- 46:21until he wasn't. He was there front and centre or
- 46:23like tucked in 2nd row doing his thing until about halfway maybe.
- 46:29But the the main thing of this weekend for him, he was like a
- 46:32bloody exhibition, wasn't he? Was on all the interviews.
- 46:36He's just collecting paydays everywhere he goes.
- 46:39He's like Mr. Mr. Worldwide, Mr. Running Worldwide, isn't he?
- 46:44I would hate to see his schedule before a race.
- 46:47It just cannot be good for you. He's so much things to do and be
- 46:52everywhere while also try and run like a relatively fast
- 46:55marathon. Yeah, I don't know why he's at.
- 46:58Well, I know what he's at. He's flapping the noise bag.
- 47:02Didn't I think I saw an article today?
- 47:05Isn't, hasn't he announced some sort of over the next two years
- 47:08he's going to do some sort of record for fastest times or
- 47:12something like this, marathon times in every continent or
- 47:15something like that? There's some sort of next like,
- 47:20I don't know, sell out sort of behaviour really isn't it?
- 47:24Something along those lines, Yeah, it's like a marathon in
- 47:27every continent over the next two years.
- 47:30But that's basically what he's been doing anyway, that he came
- 47:33to Sydney, he's went to America, he runs in London and Berlin.
- 47:37But I think he's just trying to take a step back from the elite
- 47:41racing and just basically go round and ambassador and collect
- 47:45a fat payday whilst doing so. He's he's saying he wants to
- 47:49spread running across the world and connect with runners and
- 47:52stuff like this, but he's just going where the money takes him.
- 47:56And I mean, fair play. Like if if we were in the
- 47:59twilight of a insanely successful career and you're
- 48:03finally getting paid to recognise your ability and your
- 48:06talents and your achievements, then we can't snarl them for it.
- 48:10He's the fastest run fluencer in history.
- 48:14I can't wait to see what he rocks up into entire together
- 48:17with dumb fucking massive big jacket that is going to like.
- 48:22With all my. Tech in it.
- 48:23That's a good shout. To be fair you'll have like
- 48:26alpha fly snow boots on do his whispers pre his announcement
- 48:32that rather than what he said he's going to do he was going to
- 48:36go to the ultra scene. Which I was thinking shit this
- 48:38is like so ironic after our debate last week about what was
- 48:41more impressive. He might have been about to
- 48:43prove us right or wrong, but maybe he's keeping that one up
- 48:47his sleeve for another few years.
- 48:51He will eventually do what I'd say, like how long could he hold
- 48:55like a 7 minute kilometer for one month?
- 48:59Price, I reckon that's New York covered.
- 49:02There was another race up in is it Far North Queensland or just
- 49:07QLD Noosa? Yeah, just Queensland.
- 49:11Just Queensland, not far north. Shall I cover that, Ryan?
- 49:16Knock yourself out. Knock yourselves.
- 49:19So yeah, and please jump in and correct me.
- 49:21I didn't catch a lot of it this weekend.
- 49:23I was on the tools a little bit at home, but the way so they
- 49:30have like an elite race. So it's part of the Noosa
- 49:32Triathlon weekend. I think there's some bike racing
- 49:35as well as a major triathlon, which I think was won by Matt
- 49:39Hauser, who just to sidetrack slightly, but the World
- 49:43Triathlon Championships were held in Oz recently and he was
- 49:46the winner of that. Might have been as recently as
- 49:49was it last weekend or the weekend before.
- 49:51As part of that, they do this race called the Noosa Bolt.
- 49:54It's a 5K road race, but it has a series of hairpin turns.
- 49:58It's on like a 600 meter stretch or loop.
- 50:01And so it's not the fastest course with all their their
- 50:05hairpin turns, but it's 180° turns.
- 50:08But it it is an exciting race to watch because they'll set the
- 50:13women off before the men and they still have like first over
- 50:16the finish line as well as like men's and women's prizes.
- 50:20And yeah, the winners in the men's race this year, who were
- 50:25the first three over the line as well, were Jude Thomas, Callum
- 50:28Davies and Matt Buckle. They were in 13511352 and 1357,
- 50:33which I think on that course is pretty swift running.
- 50:38And then in the women's race, it was Morty Skyring, Georgie,
- 50:43Reggie and Leanne Pompiani in 16051606 and 1606 are very close
- 50:49in the women's race, but they were caught by the men.
- 50:52Apparently it was pretty windy as well, so even more reason for
- 50:56it to be slower as well as all the turns.
- 50:59Yeah, and I think maybe that didn't play into the favor of
- 51:03the women in terms of getting caught, right, Because it looked
- 51:06like there was quite a a big bunch.
- 51:08And so you're sort of trying to work out if you're sacrificing
- 51:12your own race by leading everyone else out, but then
- 51:15increasing your chance of getting caught.
- 51:16But yeah, always a really good race.
- 51:18And I think they've softened the standards to get into the race.
- 51:21So it makes the fields a bit bigger, which is exciting for
- 51:25people who, you know, looking for a race to do this time of
- 51:28year. Looks like a fun race.
- 51:29And yeah, one of our sort of training partners that lives on
- 51:32the East Coast, Karen Perkins. He was 11th in 1448.
- 51:36So shout out to Karen. And when I was up in Brisbane, I
- 51:41was, I was injured, but I was going to go up and watch this
- 51:44race. But the crowds, it's like it
- 51:48happens on like this, like stretch around Noosa.
- 51:52And I think it's like a like a no goes on to be honest, if
- 51:56you're, if you don't have a place to stay out there because
- 51:59it is packed. So the atmosphere, I definitely
- 52:02recommend going off to Ryan if you're ever on a holiday or
- 52:05Dean, whatever, because Noosa is gorgeous as well.
- 52:08It's such a nice area. And they actually have the
- 52:11famous chip. I think there's these famous,
- 52:15they get to get chip and a machine sort of like a Yoshi for
- 52:18chips and you get to put like whatever, topping your mount on
- 52:21or something like that. But yeah, but like it with the
- 52:27wind. If you've a headwind, you're
- 52:29going to have a tailwind. So true might equal out.
- 52:34You know what I thought about this.
- 52:35I was thinking of you and your when you do your strides, but
- 52:39you do your turnabouts. You might have been well suited.
- 52:42Yeah, it's a certain way of running down hairpins that may
- 52:45be like, did you see the way the Japanese do it?
- 52:48They do really weird. Perfect course to do it.
- 52:52I'm crazy about himself, especially with the Super shoes.
- 52:55I like Chunky there. You know, Carl Davis, who
- 53:00finished second here. I remember when I first moved to
- 53:03Australia and like eventually like came across him and figured
- 53:08out who he was. And my first thought was all
- 53:11that to the guy who bloody like paces all the diamond leagues
- 53:14because he must have had one year a couple of years ago and
- 53:17he was just pacing on every bloody Diamond League meets.
- 53:21And he's a lot of the paces sometimes are like Polish
- 53:26weedish, like almost like second tier athletes, but they're quick
- 53:31enough to pace for half the race.
- 53:33And largely they'll go unnoticed to me.
- 53:36But Carl Davis is quite an individual look as well, isn't
- 53:40he? So when he's like there on the
- 53:42front of like one of the fastest 5 KS in Europe and got all the
- 53:46best athletes in the world behind them, I'm looking like,
- 53:49who the hell is this guy? And then when I eventually found
- 53:51out, I was like, jeez, makes so much sense.
- 53:54Like world's colliding. He wears like a bandana.
- 53:57Or he used to anyway. And he's spectacles that was
- 54:04made for a long time till I got lasik.
- 54:07Oh yeah, he he's in such an awkward position as cause like
- 54:10he's so good, but he's, I think he was with PM and now he's not.
- 54:16I mean, just in that awkward position where he's like, he is
- 54:18really, really good, but just not like.
- 54:21Yeah, it feels like there's not quite one distance that like
- 54:26suits him completely. He can kind of run most of those
- 54:29middle distance races very, very good, but there's not like 5K or
- 54:3415 that like stands out as like boom, that's where he is.
- 54:39Watch him move up to the marathon now and like yeah don't
- 54:42like sub 210 or something stupid.
- 54:45It's funny, right? Do you do I remember listening
- 54:47to the Coffee Club a few years ago and there was sort of
- 54:50similar comments being made about George Beamish on there
- 54:54because remember, he was sort of struggling.
- 54:57He did like the 2022, maybe world champs and fell out in the
- 55:015K in the heat and didn't have the wheels as say, like Ollie
- 55:05with the 15101 was a bit like sort of seemingly in no man's
- 55:09land. And then there was talk of the
- 55:11steeple and everyone's like, yeah, give it a go, like because
- 55:15you've got to do something. And then Fast forward like 18
- 55:19months and he wins a world championship in the 1500 and a
- 55:22world championship in the steeplechase.
- 55:24So you never know what's around the corner.
- 55:27Think that that's like the exciting thing with the
- 55:29marathon, isn't it? It's people now have showed that
- 55:32you don't necessarily have to be the fastest on the track to be
- 55:35the best as the distance goes up.
- 55:37So no wonder like people are starting to turn to it more.
- 55:40Last point on this, Dean, you know when you mentioned that
- 55:43Matt Hauser has seen his like his splits for his swim, his
- 55:46bike and his run and the run I think was a 10K run.
- 55:50Obviously it's the last leg of the three disciplines as well,
- 55:53and I think maybe it was like 2940 or something.
- 55:56And now having the experience of doing a few hard cycles.
- 56:02Imagine trying to break 30 minutes on the back of the bike.
- 56:06Yeah, no, I think yeah, they're they're legit.
- 56:09I mean, look at how fast like Hayden Wilde, Elixi are just in
- 56:14a broad race, so you can imagine.
- 56:16And the triathlon, in terms of that meta, like it's triathlons
- 56:21evolved. I reckon Once Upon a time you
- 56:23could be an average swimmer and a decent biker and a really good
- 56:27runner. Whereas now the races are so
- 56:30high octane in every discipline that you'll just get.
- 56:34They just know, like if you're not in the front 10 out of the
- 56:38water, you're in trouble on the bike and you're redlining
- 56:40because those guys will just pump big watts and you won't get
- 56:44you won't catch up. And you'll you could be the.
- 56:46But some of these Spanish runners are so good, but they
- 56:48just don't get a look in because they can't compete with the
- 56:51likes of Matt Hauser and some of these other guys in the first
- 56:54two disciplines. So like they are like they're
- 56:57ripping it on both those legs and then they're running like
- 57:00they are. Yeah, off the bike is.
- 57:03Yeah, it's pretty cool. He's pretty well.
- 57:06I've only seen a couple of photos on but he looks pretty
- 57:08stocky as well. Like well built.
- 57:10They are, they all are because they they need that upper body
- 57:13mass to be able to swim, I think.
- 57:15Whereas, you know, in running we don't need any of that.
- 57:17But yeah, whenever Kenji comes back and trains, he always he's
- 57:22quick to lose his top and run around, isn't he?
- 57:26Proud rig to show off. There was actually there was a
- 57:30video as well of that Hauser when he won the the world champs
- 57:34the other week. His swim like the start of it.
- 57:37And I've honestly, I don't watch much swimming or try.
- 57:42So like I don't really have much to compare it to, but I've never
- 57:46seen anything like it because he puts like he's just hammering
- 57:50his strokes and he just gaps the field within like 15 meters and
- 57:55he's just literally taken off like a bleed both.
- 57:59Punctual adrenaline, yeah. Right then, shall we hear about
- 58:05what's been going on in, I can't remember the name, but Spanish
- 58:08camp? Yeah, had a had a big week lads.
- 58:14Monday, it was technically a triple day, sort of.
- 58:20So in the morning I had 45 minutes and then I had eight by
- 58:25hill strides, 8 by 8 second hill strides, and then that was
- 58:31around 11.6 kilometers in total. And then in the afternoon I had
- 58:36a 45 minute Aqua jog and then straight from the Aqua jog I
- 58:40went out and just done an easy triple.
- 58:43I don't have 45. You got a belt on doing that
- 58:46Aqua jog or just purely treading?
- 58:48No man, I don't know how people do it without the belts.
- 58:51You have to have the belt for like buoyancy or else you I'm
- 58:54literally just drinking the water was sort of a double
- 58:58threshold in a way. So 15 minute one until then.
- 59:02Oh, and I brought 3 pairs of shoes.
- 59:05So I've got these Puma Velocity V4, just like a Poppy daily
- 59:10trainer. I've got the Nike Structure,
- 59:13which is a more stable daily trainer and I brought the Rebel
- 59:17V4. So an old Rebel as like a racing
- 59:20flat. So nothing like too crazy in
- 59:25advance. I'm sort of on old school.
- 59:30So the first Tuesday morning I done 2 by 15 minutes off a 5
- 59:34minute jog. And it's just on this place
- 59:36called like the yellow brick road.
- 59:38So it's just like straight out just path no one near you.
- 59:44So and the first kilometer splits were three O 730-6307 and
- 59:53then three O 7 and then I 5 minute jog and I was like
- 59:56Jeannie Mark, I'm feeling good. Turn around and I was like, OK,
- 1:00:03massive headwind. So on the way back, is there
- 1:00:06anything? Worse than a tailwind that you
- 1:00:09don't know about when you've got it and you just turn into a fat
- 1:00:12headwind. There is nothing worse 100%.
- 1:00:16And so yeah, 5 minute jog. And then the second reps were
- 1:00:22three 11311, three 13314. So just keep an eye lid on it.
- 1:00:28And in total that was 17 kilometers, an average pace of
- 1:00:34like 346. So I've actually thought about
- 1:00:37this as like a double trouble. And for Strava, would people, is
- 1:00:42it better to like put it all as one, like warm up, cool down and
- 1:00:45activity as one? Or do people prefer like the
- 1:00:49warm up separate than the session than the cooldown
- 1:00:52separate? What do you guys think?
- 1:00:55I've got a theory and I'm, I'm happy to admit because I'm going
- 1:00:59to slag a certain methodology off which I have used and I will
- 1:01:03say I have used it for this purpose.
- 1:01:06So I reckon largely I keep it all in one, but you can
- 1:01:10obviously split it up. And if you do split it up, I
- 1:01:13think, yeah, you're flexing on your splits and you just want
- 1:01:16that average pace of the workout to be shown.
- 1:01:19And I'll happily admit that I've done that here and there in the
- 1:01:22past. Because they know in training
- 1:01:24Pete wants you to do all is 1, doesn't it?
- 1:01:27Yeah. Yeah, it's because it comes up
- 1:01:29amber and stuff if you don't annoy.
- 1:01:31If you want or if you want all grain otherwise you need to get
- 1:01:35into the admin and you actually need to break your workouts up
- 1:01:38so then it it will stay grain by splitting out your warm up
- 1:01:42cooldown. I'm not fast, but I mean I must
- 1:01:47admit I don't like in your feed, your feed to be filled up with
- 1:01:51warm up and warm ups and cooldowns, you know?
- 1:01:56OK, from now on I'll do another one.
- 1:01:58I think I said this on here, I've seen a GIF shared or a meme
- 1:02:02whatever. Like Riley Bryce, this guy used
- 1:02:05to run with in Melbourne and it says that's a very nice warm up
- 1:02:09or that's a very nice cool down for me to not give kudos to.
- 1:02:13Probably what I'd like is 1 activity and then a useful title
- 1:02:17and then below the title a description of what you did and
- 1:02:21if you do that then I can then decide if I want to click in and
- 1:02:24see how fast you do that. What about these these bloody
- 1:02:30acronyms that like Simon and stuff uses like U1 for week 1,
- 1:02:35U2 for or R2 for run 2 and then like there's an acronym for like
- 1:02:40the the race that the target and I get lost do.
- 1:02:45You know Jordan Donnelly, he's got numbers beside his runs.
- 1:02:49Just follow him on Saba. Yeah, I remember hearing him say
- 1:02:52it's something to do with like the the total amount of runs
- 1:02:55he's done for that year because he had a bat with someone over,
- 1:02:58like an over under. OK, I guess because I was trying
- 1:03:02to like work out like is a certain like route.
- 1:03:05Because I knew you Canon has names for all the routes he
- 1:03:07does. And I was trying to work out
- 1:03:09what Jordan Donnelly's boy could not for the world, and he makes
- 1:03:12sense of it. Yeah, we're on money.
- 1:03:16And now what about when? Andy Buchanan does his his half
- 1:03:21an hour runs or his little double s and he calls them a
- 1:03:24half, but he he might run 33 or 34 minutes.
- 1:03:30It's just just just a double that point.
- 1:03:32I think that's I don't like that.
- 1:03:34Like I'll let that pass. I'm not that OCD.
- 1:03:37Like he's directionally appropriate.
- 1:03:41I've just got so much hate and spite in me for not running for
- 1:03:45six months and fired up off stuff I shouldn't give a shit
- 1:03:47about. Sorry, I won't go.
- 1:03:50Right. And now during this sample, my
- 1:03:53naps are pretty stable. I have enough most days.
- 1:03:56So I had a 40 minute nap done and then the evening I got out
- 1:03:59for something similar, except instead of 2 by 15 minutes, it
- 1:04:02was 2 by 10 minutes. And yeah, similar, a strong wind
- 1:04:07began. So I was more aware of it this
- 1:04:08time same route. And these were in the both of
- 1:04:12them were in the Puma daily trainers, the Velocity V4.
- 1:04:16And then after the 2nd do, but I've done 8 by 50m turn around
- 1:04:20turnabouts. So again, just sort of get the
- 1:04:22legs taken over. And though yeah, that was a big
- 1:04:28enough day. I think it was 34 kilometers for
- 1:04:30today. So I had a decent night's sleep
- 1:04:35that night. How is the Spanish cuisine
- 1:04:38treating you? Spanish markets.
- 1:04:42The roles are incredible. You go in and ask for, well, the
- 1:04:47own pond and yeah, to give you this warm, like massive big ass.
- 1:04:52And I've just been living awesome.
- 1:04:54They're so good. Way better than a bagel like and
- 1:04:57they're like 60 cent like different nothing.
- 1:05:01And the coffee, even though I panicked, went to a coffee shop
- 1:05:04my first day and yeah, not all of them speak English.
- 1:05:10So I went in and I was like, can I have a coffee?
- 1:05:13And she was like, OK, And she gave me like three different
- 1:05:19options stores like Cafe Con Latte, Americano and something
- 1:05:25else. And I just panicked.
- 1:05:26So I just picked Cafe Con Lat Latte or whatever.
- 1:05:29The freak Gala. Yeah, I didn't really.
- 1:05:33It was really Milky. It didn't wasn't a fan of that
- 1:05:35one. I so like a stronger.
- 1:05:36I'm on these. What are they called now?
- 1:05:42I forget the name. It's like a basin espresso shot
- 1:05:45with some milk in it, a little bit of milk in it.
- 1:05:49And but I know, yeah, I'm just eating a heap of pastries as
- 1:05:51well. The pastries are so good and
- 1:05:53they're just a way larger selection.
- 1:05:56Whereas Ireland, you're stuck to like a panel shocker, a plain
- 1:05:59croissant or an I'm a croissant, really.
- 1:06:02And so, yeah, I'm eating an incredible amount of food.
- 1:06:09I didn't think I could actually eat this much food, but I just
- 1:06:12know. I do not know how Jake Barclough
- 1:06:14does it like he's running, like he's running like triple nearly
- 1:06:20what I'm running and how he feels.
- 1:06:23It is just, yeah, I don't know. It's funny my my mum always used
- 1:06:29to like moan about the this is a stupid subject on podcast.
- 1:06:35The volume of toilet roll that I'd go through whilst training a
- 1:06:40lot because obviously you're fueling a lot there for your
- 1:06:43your bowels are frequently active.
- 1:06:45Yeah, yeah, I mean, actually when you say that, but yeah, all
- 1:06:51right, that's Tuesday. Wednesday is sort of an easier
- 1:06:55day. So I got out for 15 minutes in
- 1:06:57the morning. Very, very chill, 10.4
- 1:07:00kilometers and like 448 case. So just easy.
- 1:07:04And then that evening I went to the gym to do some bike.
- 1:07:09So normally on a Wednesday I don't run, I do bike, but
- 1:07:12because I'm sort of like getting like I'm not working.
- 1:07:15All I'm doing is running and eating and sleeping.
- 1:07:18So I feel like I'm able to like tolerate a bit more.
- 1:07:20So I went to the bike and done while I was meant to do an hour
- 1:07:24and boys my ass was I must have after I picked the bike after
- 1:07:29the session I was looking around and I picked like the tennis
- 1:07:33saddle. So it started off.
- 1:07:36I was meant to do an hour then I went to 45 and then at 35 I was
- 1:07:40like I cannot actually do this anymore like my ass is so sore
- 1:07:44still. I just called that 35 and that
- 1:07:49was my Wednesday. I don't know how you guys do it.
- 1:07:52I. Don't know how Ryan does.
- 1:07:55He didn't have Bibnix for six months.
- 1:07:59I still haven't caught them. I bought the women's ones,
- 1:08:02didn't. I took them back and they didn't
- 1:08:04have any. Men, you mean you're not riding
- 1:08:06with any sort of padded changes? Glutes of steel.
- 1:08:12Clearly. And.
- 1:08:15So have you rented the bike over?
- 1:08:18There no, that was just stationary bike in the gym.
- 1:08:22Thursday was the day my coach got in so he flew in on
- 1:08:27Thursday. But in the morning I got out for
- 1:08:30a nice 65 minute run and so it was like 1515.7 K at 4 O sevens
- 1:08:37feeling good. And then my coach came in and
- 1:08:42sort of didn't go to plan. So fun to do track session at
- 1:08:46like half four and the session was the session was 4K US like
- 1:08:57three O 6. So sort of, I don't know if it's
- 1:09:00trash out, but three O 6, it's a steady enough pace for me.
- 1:09:04And then I was going to do 4K like 250 per kilometer pace and
- 1:09:11went to the track and all. And then sure doesn't attract
- 1:09:14those at 5 and over there 1/2 or so done my warm up and all done
- 1:09:19the 1st 41 KS at like three O 6. And then I thought it'd be
- 1:09:24grand. They just like, let us use the
- 1:09:25track. But no, this, you know, this one
- 1:09:27came down and kicked us off. So on the track is like 2
- 1:09:32kilometer jog from the house. So we normally jog down to the
- 1:09:35track as part of the warm up drills and strides, do the
- 1:09:38session, jog back home. And so we got kicked off.
- 1:09:41And so yeah, I had to go home refueled and then just came back
- 1:09:48two hours later. So this was like a triple day in
- 1:09:52a way. So when you went back, was it
- 1:09:55flood little You're doing it in dark?
- 1:09:57No flood let it was actually cool atmosphere because there
- 1:09:59was like a running group there and there were like some of them
- 1:10:04at Halloween, face paint on and all that sort of stuff.
- 1:10:06But there was a good it was a good atmosphere there and
- 1:10:09because normally when I'm at the track it's just me.
- 1:10:13So yeah, went back then in the evening and I don't 2 by 1K
- 1:10:23after that threshold, sort of three or six pace.
- 1:10:26Then I had I think was 4 minute break and then I had four by AK
- 1:10:34at sort of, it's not 5K race pace but it's fast and I hit
- 1:10:40them at 2525125251 and there's two minutes rest in between
- 1:10:46them. And then I had a 4 minute break
- 1:10:50and then I'd four. We just added this on at the
- 1:10:52end, 4 by 400 meters off 60 seconds and the four hundreds
- 1:10:56were in 626262 and then a 59. I broke 60 for the very first
- 1:11:07time. So this is my announcement.
- 1:11:09I'm now a 400m runner. I'm sacking off the distance
- 1:11:14running. But now I felt really, really
- 1:11:16good. And yeah, but mass of day bigger
- 1:11:23than expected. I noticed there was a couple of
- 1:11:26comments on the activity. Yeah, automation, Ryan, for your
- 1:11:34benefit, it says if this is real, I can't see a world where
- 1:11:37this doesn't take over most of the pod.
- 1:11:40And Owen replied saying we're a cycling pod now.
- 1:11:48Yeah, I'm scared we might lose him.
- 1:11:50Dean, me and you are going to fall into just having a cycling
- 1:11:53podcast an hour and I'll do a spin off running.
- 1:11:56Pardon the plan, but yeah, we'll have a spin off.
- 1:12:02That is an insane session. They would like to run that 59
- 1:12:05on the back of the whole day and then the actual session that
- 1:12:08you've done it as part of as well with your 250 KS.
- 1:12:11And then the other reps were hardly slow and.
- 1:12:14Yeah, so I'm stealing, I am feeling good.
- 1:12:17I'm just being wary that I'm not peaking now and even though the
- 1:12:21main races in like 3 weeks time. But yeah, I said like I have
- 1:12:26made a little jump in fitness recently so I like I'd love to
- 1:12:30just like smash a 5K now next week and just see what I could
- 1:12:32run because I really don't know. But yeah, massive day.
- 1:12:36And but like when you're like just literally running and
- 1:12:39eating and sleeping, I feel like it just makes life so much
- 1:12:43easier. Like you've no other like you've
- 1:12:44no other worries. My only worry is I'm running out
- 1:12:47of YouTube videos to watch. Are you?
- 1:12:51And you're feeling like you're getting in a good amount of rest
- 1:12:53and stuff. I think you're saying the days
- 1:12:55still go pretty fast though, because I suppose there's so
- 1:12:58much older stuff that you would like to do, you're able to do.
- 1:13:02Yeah, so just like rolling out, I went to shop here, got a foam
- 1:13:06roller, a massage ball and all that sort of stuff.
- 1:13:10And so like, you're constantly either like eating or massaging
- 1:13:13or a feel of resting, like you're constantly, like doing
- 1:13:17something to try and benefit the running and yeah, loving it.
- 1:13:22And like, in the back of my mind, like Thursday was hard,
- 1:13:24but like I literally had Friday off.
- 1:13:26So I literally just on a little gym session in the morning and
- 1:13:28that is just feet up for the rest of the day.
- 1:13:31So you ran what you ran this week and had a day off?
- 1:13:35Yeah. That's crazy.
- 1:13:38That's a big that's some big training days.
- 1:13:41Yeah. When you're reading out Adam's
- 1:13:46comment then I thought he was going to climax with I can't see
- 1:13:50a world where you haven't bumped into Mocheteer seeing as like
- 1:13:53you splitting. These insane?
- 1:13:58No, haven't seen the blackout yet then.
- 1:14:02Yeah. So Friday totally off.
- 1:14:03Actually got a massage on Friday as well.
- 1:14:05I found a place to give me a massage and I literally, I was
- 1:14:08pretty lucky. So I walked out of the gym and
- 1:14:10we went for a coffee with my coach and his wife.
- 1:14:13And I was like, you know, I could do a massage.
- 1:14:15And I went on like Google Maps and there was a massage place
- 1:14:18like right beside us. So really went around to him and
- 1:14:21then like used Google Translate and all.
- 1:14:23And then he's like, OK, 10 minutes.
- 1:14:26So I went down, finished my coffee and my cross aunt and
- 1:14:30then came back up and it was really cool.
- 1:14:33So he gave me this little like it's not an Airpod, but it was
- 1:14:36like an earpiece and it translated so I could have like
- 1:14:41a follow on conversation with him.
- 1:14:42It would translate my English to Spanish and his Spanish to
- 1:14:45English. So you could like talk to each
- 1:14:48other. It was really, really cool.
- 1:14:50Never experienced it before but yeah it's cool.
- 1:14:55They must. Maybe they get a few tourists.
- 1:14:57Might be. Is it a bit more of a touristy
- 1:14:59area? That's pretty clever.
- 1:15:01No. Well, I think there's a lot of
- 1:15:02Russians moving in now. I don't know why but.
- 1:15:07Russians are big on the doping. Aren't they?
- 1:15:14I think a lot of Brits are damn houses out here.
- 1:15:16But then because use left the EU, now you can't stay in
- 1:15:22certain places for a long period of time, whereas I could stay
- 1:15:24here forever if I wondered. And so I think they're selling
- 1:15:28up or something like that. And.
- 1:15:30It's not welcome is what you're saying.
- 1:15:33Well, they made themselves not welcome, but whatever.
- 1:15:40Yeah. So that was Friday.
- 1:15:42Saturday, I just done. Was that 10K easy or 48 pace?
- 1:15:49Then I'd like a 45 minute nap and then even I was back at the
- 1:15:54track. So this was like the session.
- 1:15:59Like I sort of felt the fatigue in the legs a little bit.
- 1:16:02So it was 3 by a mile off woman at rest and the mile was in
- 1:16:08around that 5 minute mile and three O 6, three O 7 pace.
- 1:16:11Actually splits were 308-3083 O 7 off 60 seconds, then I'd 5
- 1:16:17minutes rest and then it was 12 * 400 meters off 60 seconds
- 1:16:22rest. And the splits were first one I
- 1:16:26didn't have the lap split on my watch.
- 1:16:29I'd like my heart rate on it. And I was flicking so I missed
- 1:16:32the 200 mark to see like because normally like you've checker 200
- 1:16:35to see if you're like going well.
- 1:16:38And then all the first split will end up being like 70
- 1:16:40seconds and I was sort of planet hit like 60 seconds.
- 1:16:44So yeah. And going down the back straight
- 1:16:49and doesn't or going down the home straight doesn't Matt Edwin
- 1:16:52as well, which so I sort of had to go faster in the 1st 200 to
- 1:16:56like sort of bank the time if you get me.
- 1:16:59But anyway, it was like Stephanie 6768666666676666666565
- 1:17:09and yeah, again, feeling like, I don't know if that's 5K face,
- 1:17:14but I felt all right, like I could have done another one
- 1:17:18anyway. 60 sixes will be 1248 or something per kilometer.
- 1:17:29Dean is the man for that. I don't know. 60 sevens would be
- 1:17:33because 67 is 5 seconds times 2 is 10 seconds plus another 2
- 1:17:391/2. That's like 247.5.
- 1:17:41And but yeah, there's one thing hold enough for 400 meters.
- 1:17:45There's another thing holding that for 12 1/2 slaps.
- 1:17:49Yeah. But still in the front runner
- 1:17:51sessions, we would always do the one mile tempo threshold at the
- 1:17:54start. You've just done 3.
- 1:17:58Yeah. And then obviously you've got
- 1:17:59this ridiculous that that's back-to-back.
- 1:18:01We're not back-to-back, but you're only on the track 48
- 1:18:04hours prior doing that other silly session.
- 1:18:07So like you say, big fatigue. Yes, yeah, that was a total of
- 1:18:12that session. It was like 11.3 kilometers, so
- 1:18:1445 minutes nearly worth of worth a run in.
- 1:18:18And then Sunday was the long run.
- 1:18:22So my long runs are normally like just chilling for the first
- 1:18:26like 70 and then I pick it up for like 20 minutes at the end.
- 1:18:31So that is what I did, run for 90 minutes, sort of 20 minute
- 1:18:34pick up. And I totally miscalculated this
- 1:18:37one. So 'cause I was picking up at
- 1:18:40the end, I sort of had to go out a little bit further.
- 1:18:44So I finish at the same point. So I was like, all right, I'll
- 1:18:49turn. So normally halfway is 45.
- 1:18:52I was like, all right, I'll go out to 55, that'll give me 10
- 1:18:55minutes. But sure, wasn't it double S?
- 1:18:57It's 20 minutes. I should have went down to 50.
- 1:19:00So by the time I'd finished, I still don't know like OK to
- 1:19:03drive home and. This is why I like because I was
- 1:19:07going to question this. It's taught that you've like, so
- 1:19:09you've done your main activity and then you've added to a long
- 1:19:12run an activity called cooldown who calls down from the long
- 1:19:17run. But.
- 1:19:19Now it makes more sense. That's why So yeah, the long run
- 1:19:25was what was that? 23.6 kilometers average base of
- 1:19:30348. So and then yeah, unfortunately
- 1:19:35the I don't a cool down and the cool down was literally stuff.
- 1:19:39But that's when I was thinking I was like going like 530 per
- 1:19:43kilometer. I was like, I could hold this
- 1:19:46for freaking. Like if you're doing the ultra
- 1:19:50running 600 kilometers, I swear guys, you could hold it for
- 1:19:52ages. I reckon Ron and I'd be lucky to
- 1:19:56hold it for 30 minutes at the minute.
- 1:19:59No, it's. It's.
- 1:20:02I don't know. I think you'd be well and to
- 1:20:04hold up well. And.
- 1:20:08But yeah, so that was actually. Did you get some nutrition in
- 1:20:11for that? Yeah, so I was looking at my
- 1:20:13culture on the bike. So I took well every like 5K
- 1:20:18nearly I'd have did bix powder. I'd in a bottle still one skip
- 1:20:23of the bigs powder. I think there is.
- 1:20:25I don't know how many carries are in it.
- 1:20:26Pretty is it and 500 mil. So I sipping on that because he
- 1:20:30was on the bike beside me and then I took a gel as well at am
- 1:20:34halfway. So as well fueled.
- 1:20:36It was only 90 minutes as well. It's not like I was gone for
- 1:20:38like 2 hours or something. Well, even though it ended up in
- 1:20:40nearly two hours, but yeah, well, did.
- 1:20:44Some of some of the new big stuff make its way out to
- 1:20:46Ireland. As in the new gel of colour
- 1:20:50virus, Yeah, I that I think they hit and Europe first I get down
- 1:20:54like 2-3 months ago, yeah. Yeah.
- 1:20:56Oh, shit. Oh, there you go.
- 1:20:59Yeah, they're nice. Yeah, they're good.
- 1:21:01I think I have one flavor. I can't remember what flavor I
- 1:21:03have and but and I like the way them flavors are 30 grams and
- 1:21:09then you've got the option of 40.
- 1:21:11I feel like that 10 grounds actually makes makes a
- 1:21:14difference. Like if I'm going for let's say
- 1:21:16got at 90 minutes, like a 40 gram will easily fuel you a lot.
- 1:21:21Whereas a 30 gram, I don't know. In my head I'm just like I'd
- 1:21:24rather just take the 40g for that type of run and then for
- 1:21:27the sessions like a 30 gram will do me perfect.
- 1:21:30Yeah, I think that's what I think Blad was saying.
- 1:21:32They got some feedback that maybe 30 would be helpful for
- 1:21:35some, like some people would like a smaller one like.
- 1:21:37But then if people are doing lots like like us, and we'd like
- 1:21:41the opportunity to have something a bit bigger.
- 1:21:42So yeah, I think they've introduced the 31.
- 1:21:46It seems to be pretty popular. Yeah, and even like getting to
- 1:21:50like do the drink normally I just don't have beside me.
- 1:21:55So sort of practice even like getting a drink down because it
- 1:21:57is totally different. Like I feel like my heart rate
- 1:21:59spikes every time. I even like taking the gel out
- 1:22:01in my back pocket. Like your heart rate does spike.
- 1:22:05Yeah, you notice that in in marathon workouts, you see your
- 1:22:08heart rate jump up every time it's drink bottle time.
- 1:22:12Yeah, but yeah, lads, that was 60 kilometer a week, 100 miles,
- 1:22:16big way, first time. With a girl.
- 1:22:20With a day off and a 45 minute Aqua joke and a 35 minute cycle.
- 1:22:26Yeah. It's huge though and they bear
- 1:22:28class. I'm coming for you.
- 1:22:34He's an animal, that guy. Man, do you think it like?
- 1:22:40You ever get to the end of a week?
- 1:22:41So you've just put together this week and like, and you're
- 1:22:44feeling it, right? Like and you're trying to
- 1:22:46recover and like you feel good. It's fun, but like you're tired,
- 1:22:50right? But how do you do another 100
- 1:22:53kilometers? No, he doesn't have like he does
- 1:22:57this back-to-back to back-to-back to back.
- 1:22:59Like yeah, I don't even know how his body like and does it.
- 1:23:05I don't get it. I really don't like you, just
- 1:23:08felt different. I don't know if it's all that
- 1:23:10hitting it with a bamboo stick in MO tie that's made in
- 1:23:17Superman when it comes to load, but yeah, boggles my mind.
- 1:23:22But yeah, so like I felt it this morning and I just went out for
- 1:23:25like a 45 minute jog and the legs did feel a little bit
- 1:23:29heavy. But I'm not done too.
- 1:23:30Like I'm not gonna jog tonight because I am cautious.
- 1:23:33Like that is a massive week and like my biggest week ever.
- 1:23:37And so I might just sort of like DI might even run as much, but I
- 1:23:42still like cross trying to still like keep the ball, hopefully
- 1:23:45just hit the sessions just as hard.
- 1:23:47But I mean, I'm just playing on the side of caution because the
- 1:23:51big racism for another three weeks.
- 1:23:52So just another two weeks of training and then I'll taper
- 1:23:55time. I was going to ask, did you have
- 1:23:58you still been taken the bicarb head to the track sessions or we
- 1:24:02dropped that? No.
- 1:24:03So in my head, I don't take anything.
- 1:24:06I save all that stuff for the race.
- 1:24:10So I get like them because like I feel like in training you're
- 1:24:13training your body to deal with the high levels.
- 1:24:16So then when you take it on the race, you're like, oh, whoa,
- 1:24:19it's like your body's like, oh, I can clear really easy.
- 1:24:22And that's in my head the top process.
- 1:24:24So I don't really. I took it by cab once just to
- 1:24:27see how my and my and tummy like reacted to it and it was ground.
- 1:24:33So I'm take I took it from there that like I'll be able to take
- 1:24:35it for races. Yeah, I just I'm like I'm cannot
- 1:24:39wait. I'm leaving them pair of New
- 1:24:40Balance rebels out here. They are just they're dead.
- 1:24:45They give you giving me nothing. So I'm leaving them out here and
- 1:24:49I'm yeah, I don't think I'll be well, not the version 4 anyway.
- 1:24:53I won't be getting them well a huge.
- 1:24:54Week. Excited to see it all come to a
- 1:24:58conclusion in three weeks time. The big dance?
- 1:25:03Absolutely. That part with the big boys.
- 1:25:06Will some of them be away altitude now do you think or
- 1:25:09what? Do them actually your mind.
- 1:25:11Cormac Dalton and he ran in Spain.
- 1:25:13So I was actually looking at this race.
- 1:25:15There's AI think it was a Silver label meet in like San
- 1:25:17Sebastian. It was up north of me.
- 1:25:20It's like a 7 hour drive and I was going to try and do it, but
- 1:25:23it would have been like a lot. It would have taken like nearly
- 1:25:26three days of training off me and like running the race.
- 1:25:30So it just wasn't worth it. But yeah, a few of them ran in
- 1:25:34that race. It was won by like 4 Kenyans.
- 1:25:37And then your man Nick, Greg's from Ireland, he was fifth.
- 1:25:40Cormac Dalton was 6th. And then the guy who won the arm
- 1:25:43open race to Iran and Dublin and the Caprese go he was don't want
- 1:25:47to say or something like that. Bush.
- 1:25:50And they're I think they're all because I don't know, they're
- 1:25:54not, I think they've already done their camp.
- 1:25:56Ireland had like a high performance camp and in front
- 1:25:59Romeo for like 4 weeks, two weeks ago if you get me.
- 1:26:05I'm so I don't know if they'll get away again before nationals,
- 1:26:10but they're basically living the life here, the life like the
- 1:26:14full training life, just in Ireland, which I am not looking
- 1:26:18forward to going back to. I heard on another podcast is it
- 1:26:22Brian Fay is heading over for it as well.
- 1:26:25It's like Aussie based. Is he doing the Nationals?
- 1:26:31That's going to be interesting because I think it's around a
- 1:26:32heap of football pitches and it's not going to be your it's
- 1:26:37going to be Aussie cross country, if you get me.
- 1:26:40Should say American. Yeah, it's to all the boys so.
- 1:26:44And especially because 7 1/2 K, it'll suit the 5K guys.
- 1:26:48Yeah, I like Brian because. The work is good.
- 1:26:52No, the only thing that can help me is if it's a mud bath.
- 1:26:58No, but I mean, why is the why? Is it going to be a good course
- 1:27:01because the the weather's good at the minute or with just the
- 1:27:04football pitches handle the weather anyway?
- 1:27:06Don't take flat all them fast boys like all they want, like
- 1:27:09the hills take it out of them. But when it's pancake flat they
- 1:27:13just get rolling and basically like the track.
- 1:27:17So we'll see what happens. But yeah, no, it's exciting.
- 1:27:21You're doing everything you can anyway.
- 1:27:24Basically a little make me or break me.
- 1:27:26Do we want to do YouTube Diaries now?
- 1:27:27Because we seem to always push it to the end and then get very
- 1:27:31squashed for time, so we should give it some justice.
- 1:27:35Yeah, we we were going to talk about.
- 1:27:40So we didn't pray, we didn't talk through this race.
- 1:27:42But ahead of the New York Marathon is the 5K race the day
- 1:27:48before. And in the men's race, Adam
- 1:27:51Fogg, who spent time in Oz but runs for GB, was fairly
- 1:27:56prominent in that race, ended up finishing fourth.
- 1:27:59But yeah, he's I'm surprised we haven't spoken about his YouTube
- 1:28:03series yet, but I remember following him during COVID.
- 1:28:07He was based in Saint, Queensland, I think, and
- 1:28:10vlogging his experience, like posting regular content has his
- 1:28:14own like catchy Jingle to intro his videos.
- 1:28:17I could probably sing a couple of lines of it, which is
- 1:28:20embarrassing on multiple fronts. But but yeah, like I remember he
- 1:28:27won a might have been like the Sydney 5K race, like he out
- 1:28:31sprinted. It might have been Benson
- 1:28:32Lawrence for to dip under 14 minutes for the first time, like
- 1:28:37any sort of logged his lead up to that, like he was not he was
- 1:28:40like a 14 low. But then you sort of, you know,
- 1:28:43through that YouTube series saw him break 14 minutes.
- 1:28:45Then he went over to Drake Uni and which wasn't one of like the
- 1:28:50top universities, but he him and some of his training partners
- 1:28:54worked really well together. And he sort of logged that
- 1:28:56series, you know, gave some insight into how how college
- 1:29:00life was and racing over there and ended up doing quite well.
- 1:29:04I can't remember if he won an NCAA indoor mile title, but he
- 1:29:07was certainly competitive and then signed with Under Armour as
- 1:29:12a pro and so and competes for for them.
- 1:29:16And yeah, he's gone on to run under 350 for the mile, which is
- 1:29:20seriously impressive. Sends it on some of his long
- 1:29:23runs, which he blogs and he's, you know, seems to have very
- 1:29:25supportive parents, gets around the park run scene.
- 1:29:28And but yeah, I don't know. He has his own authentic style
- 1:29:31of video and I do find myself consuming them from time to
- 1:29:34time. Does he film it all himself and
- 1:29:39does he train solo? Was he of like a little training
- 1:29:42squad? I haven't seen as much of his
- 1:29:46training. He was based in America for a
- 1:29:48period of time there with with the training squad, but I
- 1:29:51haven't seen as much of it recently I think.
- 1:29:54Do you know on? So like Under Armour Baltimore
- 1:29:59or something like that. There is a big group of them and
- 1:30:03his most recent videos, he's like in the Under Armour
- 1:30:05headquarters, which is it looks pretty cool.
- 1:30:09I just don't know why they don't push the running shoes.
- 1:30:11Like you don't even one like Sharon, like Eddie, like I
- 1:30:14wouldn't have a clue. Wash shoe.
- 1:30:16She run the race in or like what?
- 1:30:19A daily trainer from Under Armour.
- 1:30:21You just don't hear any of them talk about it.
- 1:30:24Whereas yeah, you hear them talk about the Romeo structure, all
- 1:30:27that sort of stuff. I guess you had them talk, but
- 1:30:29Under Armour very quiet. And like they said, they were
- 1:30:32trashed for a period of time. I remember when Steve's
- 1:30:35Scullion, I think he got to run in.
- 1:30:36I don't know if he like just texted them out, but he used to
- 1:30:39run in like a pair of vapor Flyers for a period of time or 4
- 1:30:42percents next percents when he was first started running for
- 1:30:47them. But I think now they've created
- 1:30:48some decent footwear, but you just wouldn't know.
- 1:30:50You just don't know anything about.
- 1:30:53It remember, I'm sure Matt Fox, Underswear Elite back in the day
- 1:30:58done a training video with like that Under Armour squad out
- 1:31:01there. I wonder if Adam Fogg would have
- 1:31:04featured in that maybe two or three years ago.
- 1:31:11Yeah, I don't know. Yes, Under Armour, really weird,
- 1:31:15like train group names. I think there's another one like
- 1:31:18Dark Sky, Under Armour, Dark Sky.
- 1:31:20Yeah. And then and who's the UK?
- 1:31:24Mylar, he's the Scottish guy. It's not white, man.
- 1:31:30It's not cursed. You're the guy.
- 1:31:31Girly. No girly.
- 1:31:32He's with another, he's Under Armour as well, but they've got
- 1:31:36some good athletes, just you hear nothing about them.
- 1:31:39Yeah, actually. Well, what, what would he work?
- 1:31:43Would he work? Would he wear Under Armour
- 1:31:45spikes? Yeah, you'd be able to see on
- 1:31:48his on his photos. Well, even all the Aussie girls.
- 1:31:54She's Under Armour as well, low, annoying.
- 1:31:57Well, yeah, his stuff is really good.
- 1:31:58He's in like a transition period as well.
- 1:32:00I think he's moving open distances.
- 1:32:02I think he's got some Philadelphia half marathon he's
- 1:32:05training for now and he don't have Martin there before this
- 1:32:10fight K race and I think around like 66 as part of a training
- 1:32:13run. So he'll probably go well.
- 1:32:15Like he's the type of guy that could run a super fast night and
- 1:32:18I think like after like you just suit some.
- 1:32:20He's gonna fall off the back of that.
- 1:32:22Yeah, it's smooth. Isn't he efficient?
- 1:32:24He sort of fell off the back at the New York race.
- 1:32:29Yeah, it just in that just went uphill at the end.
- 1:32:32I think that last 150 minutes he was sort of there or thereabouts
- 1:32:36and then they oh, did you watch? Did you see the women's race in
- 1:32:39that? It was very it was a good
- 1:32:42finish, the. Year one came from nowhere.
- 1:32:44Yeah, she's like, I think she'd won it the two times previous
- 1:32:50and was 4. And the other three athletes
- 1:32:54who, gosh, I'm going to butcher their names, but Parker Valby.
- 1:32:59Only Saint Pierre. Saint Pierre, who just come back
- 1:33:02to trial six months ago. Yeah.
- 1:33:06And they were both sort of making the moves.
- 1:33:09And there's some. Oh, and oh, Bueni coladi.
- 1:33:13That's it. Yeah, they they were all sort of
- 1:33:15mixing it, duking it out and it looked like it was a three horse
- 1:33:18race. And then the I've forgotten her
- 1:33:20name, but she she'd one of the last two years and just sat off
- 1:33:24the back and just sort of knew that the the time to send it was
- 1:33:27up that hill. Sort of finished his uphill a
- 1:33:29bit and just ran over the top of them.
- 1:33:31It was a very good. Race.
- 1:33:33She's, I think she's a Solomon outlet.
- 1:33:34I think her gear was all Solomon, which is yeah, that's
- 1:33:39crazy. It's cool that there's so many
- 1:33:41different companies now that are funding athletes and creating
- 1:33:45opportunities. Her name is Annie Rodenfeld.
- 1:33:50That's yeah. Yeah, good.
- 1:33:51Thanks for that. I'll admittedly haven't really
- 1:33:54watched any of his stuff before, so I'll trust your opinion and
- 1:33:57get on it because I have a 60 minute cross train lined up in
- 1:34:01the morning. Could be me, certainly won't be
- 1:34:05listening to the Easy double podcast.
- 1:34:07Can't can't be doing that. Can't listen to your own voice.
- 1:34:10Quite painful it's. So.
- 1:34:12Painful. I don't know, Jake, when he goes
- 1:34:16on interviews and stuff, he actively goes and listens to
- 1:34:19them afterwards that she can't do it.
- 1:34:22You know, like sometimes when you'll even hear the echo and
- 1:34:24you can hear your own voice. I'm like, Oh no.
- 1:34:26Right. Then a couple of news items
- 1:34:28before we finish off the last week in the week, the Sydney
- 1:34:32ballot results went out. I know one guy from my run club
- 1:34:36back home, Molly, which like fair play to him, he was willing
- 1:34:40to travel from the UK to race Sydney.
- 1:34:43He's around 1520 ish or maybe 1510 five K.
- 1:34:49So he's good runner, accomplished runner.
- 1:34:51He's got a 238 marathon PB and he went into the high
- 1:34:55performance program, which is like the subbelite preferred
- 1:34:59type start, however you want to call it.
- 1:35:01And I think with his 238, he was pretty confident or hopeful that
- 1:35:06he's got a spot because the infamous BQ or Boston qualifier
- 1:35:11time is 255. And now with like the
- 1:35:14competitiveness nowadays, you can't get in with 255, but I
- 1:35:18think if you run like 250 or thereabouts, 248, then you're
- 1:35:24pretty good. Obviously flex all that to your
- 1:35:27age group as well. This is just for the open
- 1:35:29category. And he got the rejection e-mail
- 1:35:32and he was gutted. So then I went on to the Sydney
- 1:35:35Marathon like page on Instagram where they like posted that the
- 1:35:39results were out. And there's like so many people
- 1:35:42in the comments like, oh, I'm 40 to 45 and have ran 244 like 18
- 1:35:49minutes under the standard like however not got in.
- 1:35:52So I think they as they've done it deliberately to get people
- 1:35:58talking or they just balls stuff like the qualifying criteria.
- 1:36:04Because a lot of people were also calling for them to like
- 1:36:06publish the numbers in terms of like how many people applied and
- 1:36:10how many places were available in the 1st place.
- 1:36:13So you end up they ended up saying they had 6397
- 1:36:17applications, up from 237 last year.
- 1:36:21I don't know how that doesn't really add up to me.
- 1:36:24I know obviously the fact that it's a major now will bring it
- 1:36:28so much more attention. But to go from 200 to 6 1/2
- 1:36:32thousand for only 600 places. So even if you had run the time
- 1:36:39to qualify for it, you've got to be in the fastest 10% of those
- 1:36:42people who qualified. So pretty brutal cut off.
- 1:36:46And then the day after they announced the open ballot,
- 1:36:51obviously anyone can enter the ballot.
- 1:36:54So they had 123,000 entries for that, which the saying is up 56%
- 1:36:58from last year, which seems a bit more of a realistic jump
- 1:37:02than going up like 1000%. But yeah, a few people happy, a
- 1:37:08few people disappointed. But the main thing is that
- 1:37:11Sydney seems to be growing. It's clearly oversubscribed and
- 1:37:15I'm sure there'll be like many internationals coming through
- 1:37:18now on the back of the first major this year and haven't kept
- 1:37:21Chogi and Hassan there. I'm sure that was part of the
- 1:37:23plan. Wonder how many of them are like
- 1:37:27international and how many of them are like within Australia
- 1:37:30like Well we see a massive drop off and the likes of Gold Coast
- 1:37:33to Gold Coast take a massive hit.
- 1:37:37Yeah, interesting isn't it? I reckon like Sydney's a global
- 1:37:40tourist destination anyway, so now there's an excuse to go
- 1:37:44there to do a major. I reckon it will bring a lot of
- 1:37:48international tourism once kind of like over the next couple of
- 1:37:51years as where it gets around the globe that Sydney is a legit
- 1:37:54event, yeah. It's sort of like I sort of plan
- 1:37:56my like, what country do I want to go to?
- 1:37:59Oh yeah, there's a race there. So I go to that country.
- 1:38:02A lot of people doing that and stuff.
- 1:38:05Yeah, it's probably like Sydney maybe is on a lot of people in
- 1:38:08Europe or America's bucket list, but it's like literally that far
- 1:38:11away. It's hard to justify it.
- 1:38:13And then if you're a runner and that crops up, you're like,
- 1:38:15jeez, I'm there if I can get an entry.
- 1:38:19Did any of you boys apply? No, but then when I see I didn't
- 1:38:22even know it was open. To be honest.
- 1:38:23That's all detached I am. But then when I see no less I
- 1:38:26was getting belief I don't thought I should have.
- 1:38:31NAR. No noise.
- 1:38:34I don't know if you've seen these stories, so Sepco popped
- 1:38:38up on my Instagram feed a couple of times this week.
- 1:38:41First one was they announced this.
- 1:38:43I can't make sense of it. Anyway, Techno Gym and World
- 1:38:46Athletics have partnered up to create the World Treadmill
- 1:38:50Running Championships and they're trying to spin it as
- 1:38:53though like recreational runners have a chance to compete against
- 1:38:56professionals and like progress through the rounds, all this
- 1:39:00sorts of stuff. So their techno gym are the
- 1:39:03supplier of treadmills for the Olympics and for World Athletics
- 1:39:06and the China market it as the shaking up the concept of
- 1:39:10running and breaking the geographical barriers.
- 1:39:12Like anyone can enter on a treadmill and weather isn't a
- 1:39:17factor. But I just, I don't know, I
- 1:39:21might be proven wrong and I'll be happy to eat my words and
- 1:39:23I'll do it on here if so if if it is amazing but I just don't
- 1:39:27get the point of it. Weather is a factor though, but
- 1:39:32you can just artificially create an environment around your
- 1:39:35treadmill. You probably blow blow air
- 1:39:37behind you. Just be be wary.
- 1:39:43I've done technology and treadmills because I got tuned
- 1:39:45on Monday bro. No way that was at the brow.
- 1:39:51That's so funny. When I'm when I read this
- 1:39:53initially I was thinking, oh, if we if we suck up to techno gym
- 1:39:57we might get out on a treadmill. But that's the one that broke on
- 1:40:00you. Just get out on a treadmill
- 1:40:01repair person. I've had bad experiences.
- 1:40:05But anyway, it's going to all ramp up towards a world final in
- 1:40:09what's for now being quoted as an iconic location where the top
- 1:40:13ten men and women will compete in a 5K treadmill time trial.
- 1:40:19I just people are going to be flying off the back of these
- 1:40:21treadmills. Like, you know, just crank it up
- 1:40:25for like 23 kilometers an hour and just try and hold on for as
- 1:40:28long as possible, yeah. And you can cheat.
- 1:40:33Obviously the cheat and elements, yeah.
- 1:40:36Yeah, you can sort of, you know when you're like adjusting the.
- 1:40:40So we used to in Perth there used to be a corporate event.
- 1:40:44It used to run for 12 hours and used to do half hour slots on
- 1:40:47the treadmill. And I used to do it because the
- 1:40:50fastest leg time for the day used to get like a 12 month
- 1:40:54membership to fitness first or something like that, that house
- 1:40:57would use. So I was always keen to because
- 1:41:01I'm wasted when it comes to gym work.
- 1:41:03But but like I'd have mates that would take their leg and they'd
- 1:41:08just put put their hands like pretend like they're adjusting
- 1:41:10the time, but they're just holding themselves up with their
- 1:41:12arms, you know, on the treadmill.
- 1:41:14So I would like their legs would just pass underneath them.
- 1:41:17I don't know. I don't know about treadmill
- 1:41:19world chance. It just feels feels easier to
- 1:41:22dope the knees, and it does in the real world.
- 1:41:27Especially when you strap your ulcer G onto it and you run at
- 1:41:3050% body weight. Exactly.
- 1:41:33Just put some elastic. Have you seen those?
- 1:41:36There's. There's.
- 1:41:38Lever. There's lever things.
- 1:41:40Yeah, Levers. Yeah, that's it.
- 1:41:44I can't knock him something up his sleeve.
- 1:41:47The the second reason why he was on my Instagram feed was he was
- 1:41:51apologizing or issuing a statement, which this, this one
- 1:41:54was kind of quite caught my eye quite dramatically.
- 1:41:58They've been getting World Athletics have been robbed by
- 1:42:02two of their employees. So the colonists was the quote.
- 1:42:06They uncovered systematic internal theft totaling over
- 1:42:10€1.5 million over several years. So they brought a new finance
- 1:42:15leadership team in and they conducted probably what was a
- 1:42:18BAU annual audit and they undercover the two employees had
- 1:42:23been skimming all the accounts. I.
- 1:42:26Don't know why I'm laughing, but they've sent all the information
- 1:42:29over to the authorities for criminal investigation.
- 1:42:33So Mr. Coe had this tail between his legs there.
- 1:42:36Because that's not the kind of PR that you need, is it?
- 1:42:40You wouldn't think it'd be the most.
- 1:42:41Common name is funny. Organization, would it?
- 1:42:46In terms of financial flows, where do they collect money
- 1:42:49from? Techno gym, all the countries
- 1:42:54pained on to not get dope like to not get cat doping.
- 1:42:58Did they have anything to do with that?
- 1:43:00You wouldn't declare that anyway.
- 1:43:01We don't test detail for profit, I suppose.
- 1:43:06The the headquarters is based in Monaco, I think as well.
- 1:43:09So there wouldn't be much work for you even there, Dean.
- 1:43:12No. That's it.
- 1:43:14The last couple of things, so we shared on our story about Morgan
- 1:43:17McDonald announced that he's leaving his current setup with
- 1:43:21on and he done an interesting video which was I thought was
- 1:43:24like fair play to him. He's explained it very well and
- 1:43:27made it sound like a positive, which hopefully it will be.
- 1:43:31So fair play to him for making a bold jump.
- 1:43:35And like, that is a bold jump. Like he had the world on, like
- 1:43:40all the facilities, he had everything at his fingertips.
- 1:43:44And like he could have just kept on going and like tried to make
- 1:43:49it work. But like he, he's getting on as
- 1:43:52well, isn't he? He's not the young spring
- 1:43:54chicken anymore. So fair play time.
- 1:43:56I'd love to know where he's gone, like what his setup is
- 1:43:59going to be now, like what he just trained solo the whole time
- 1:44:02or like what's happening. But yeah, no fair play to him
- 1:44:05because it was a was a big, massive decision.
- 1:44:10Especially the the podcast they probably you got it in.
- 1:44:16No, I was just going to say like, like I mentioned part of
- 1:44:20it because he keeps getting recurring injuries, but you've
- 1:44:23seen someone like Jordy Beamish who's suffered similar injury
- 1:44:27setbacks, but has managed to make it work in that environment
- 1:44:30as well. So I'd have to wire on you,
- 1:44:32right? Like the coffee club, like
- 1:44:35that's all based around, like OAC, his girlfriend is about
- 1:44:39OAC. Yeah, like big, big life
- 1:44:41changes. Yeah, so we'll see.
- 1:44:43Keep an eye on what he's up to and when he announces what his
- 1:44:46new setup will be. That leaves us with double
- 1:44:51trouble. I don't know if anything is
- 1:44:54rattled you guys in the past week, maybe we've reached a
- 1:44:57couple already but I did have one as a go to.
- 1:45:00Again this might be just showing my spite, getting pissed off by
- 1:45:03things that shouldn't really affect me.
- 1:45:05However, Owen, keen for your thoughts on this because you
- 1:45:10have a objective view as I do as non Australian citizens and we
- 1:45:14might piss off the Australians here and I need to be careful
- 1:45:17because I'm the one still living in their country.
- 1:45:20So also acknowledging that you can do whatever you like.
- 1:45:24The way they change people's names and sometimes for no
- 1:45:29reason put an O on the end or swap a letter for an O.
- 1:45:34So like I know Dean's makes sense because Dean now I don't
- 1:45:38know why it makes sense, right? But so Izzy Beth Doyle and Andy
- 1:45:42Buchanan were on the on the series together and they changed
- 1:45:47it. So Izzy like 4 letters and Andy
- 1:45:514 letters. They change the names to Izzo
- 1:45:55and Ando. It's it's.
- 1:45:59Freaking mind boggling they do smoko Alvo.
- 1:46:04Everything has an O at the end. It's so weird.
- 1:46:09Has. Someone called you Mono at work
- 1:46:11and you're now just upset about it.
- 1:46:13To be fair, Ben, you. Ref calls you I think refs
- 1:46:20still. Coming Oh no, no, it's when
- 1:46:24there's it's when it's needless and it like when it already ends
- 1:46:28in the E sound, whether that be an IE or AY and it gets swapped
- 1:46:33for an O So like, Oh no, that would never work.
- 1:46:40Do you know for some reason sounds or seems like it works.
- 1:46:44Yeah. But anyway, the one that got me
- 1:46:46most was a couple of years ago. I remember watching the news and
- 1:46:50the journalist was covering this news story.
- 1:46:53And then she proceeds to say the the fire rows are on the way and
- 1:46:57I couldn't believe it. Like yeah you Aussies come on.
- 1:47:02Playing 25. Nearly 2026.
- 1:47:09But I'm sure I say things that piss everyone else off as well,
- 1:47:11so let me know what it is. Liverpool.
- 1:47:16I reckon that's us. Yeah, I don't like that.
- 1:47:21All right, thanks, everyone. If you're still listening, you
- 1:47:24haven't give us five stars yet. Do that.
- 1:47:26Send us your thoughts on Instagram, go in the clubhouse,
- 1:47:29all that shit. Keep it going.
- 1:47:31Thanks again.
