Transcript
- 0:10Speaker 1: Hey, what's going on? Everybody? Welcome into another edition of
- 0:12Speaker 1: the Checho Daily. Andrew dicheco here, Eagles beat reporter for
- 0:15Speaker 1: insidethebirds dot Com. The Eagles are losing defensive backs coach,
- 0:19Speaker 1: passing game coordinator Christian Parker, who has finalized a deal
- 0:23Speaker 1: with the Dallas Cowboys to become their defensive coordinator. Needless
- 0:27Speaker 1: to say, it's a massive loss for the foot off
- 0:29Speaker 1: the Eagles, but a huge gain for the Dallas Cowboys.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Christian Parker is just thirty four years old, but has
- 0:34Speaker 1: a commanding presence. He has a track record of developing talent,
- 0:39Speaker 1: maximizing the talent of those around him, and relatability. So
- 0:43Speaker 1: when you look at what the Cowboys needed, I thought
- 0:47Speaker 1: that they were going to maybe go for a bigger
- 0:49Speaker 1: name and maybe Parker would be more appealing to the
- 0:52Speaker 1: Green Bay Packers, which of course he was a defensive
- 0:54Speaker 1: quality control coach. But I can tell you from talking
- 0:57Speaker 1: to players for the past two seasons. You talk to
- 1:01Speaker 1: whether it's you know, just different coaches, it's something that
- 1:06Speaker 1: it is a prevailing theme. It comes up a lot.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Whenever Christian Parker's name is brought up, the player's eyes
- 1:13Speaker 1: they light up and they are quick to heat praise
- 1:16Speaker 1: upon their coach, especially obviously secondary players, whether it's Quinta Mitchell, Cooper,
- 1:22Speaker 1: Cooper Degen. By the way, during cleanout, said that he
- 1:24Speaker 1: wouldn't be the player that he is without Christian Parker.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Quinyon Mitchell has offered a similar sentiment. I spoke to
- 1:31Speaker 1: a Dori Jackson this season and Adri Jackson has mentioned that, yeah,
- 1:35Speaker 1: he works with him a lot on the side, which,
- 1:38Speaker 1: by the way, if you listen to my podcast on Thursdays,
- 1:42Speaker 1: Christian Parker would work with Quinya Mitchell and Adri Jackson
- 1:45Speaker 1: off to the side on ball skills and footwork and
- 1:49Speaker 1: different types of fundamentals. That was every Thursday. But Adory
- 1:52Speaker 1: talked about beyond even the on field, you know, impact
- 1:58Speaker 1: that Christian Parker has made, it's the relatability piece. He
- 2:03Speaker 1: cited that he was always three years. There was only
- 2:06Speaker 1: a three year difference between Dori Jackson and Christian Parker,
- 2:10Speaker 1: and they would talk about TV shows, movies, certain songs,
- 2:14Speaker 1: even sports figures. And you have to think zooming out.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Most of the defensive backs on a roster are going
- 2:21Speaker 1: to be in their twenties or early thirties, and Parker
- 2:25Speaker 1: having that relatability where he can communicate and talk about
- 2:29Speaker 1: different things with his group, I think makes his ability
- 2:33Speaker 1: to convey his messaging a lot clearer, a lot easier
- 2:37Speaker 1: to digest than maybe some other coaches. And so now
- 2:42Speaker 1: he's going to be overseeing the entire defense, and I
- 2:45Speaker 1: think I know just from being around him, he has
- 2:48Speaker 1: a commanding presence. He conducts himself like a defensive coordinator.
- 2:53Speaker 1: He speaks in ways that you're able to understand and
- 2:57Speaker 1: process it, and he just is a very sharp defensive mind.
- 3:01Speaker 1: I go back to the conversation that I had, well,
- 3:03Speaker 1: I asked Sean Payton a question at the NFL Scotting
- 3:06Speaker 1: Combine caught him a bright defensive mind, said, Christian's really sharp.
- 3:11Speaker 1: That was a holdover on Sean Payton's staff. He's obviously
- 3:15Speaker 1: very well versed in the vic Fangio system. So you
- 3:18Speaker 1: can expect to see a lot of that or some
- 3:21Speaker 1: iteration of that with the Dallas Cowboys. But you look
- 3:25Speaker 1: at everywhere that he's gone, whether it was Green Bay
- 3:28Speaker 1: and Jay R Alexander, whether it was Denver, Pat Sertan
- 3:32Speaker 1: Jaklin McMillan, who came up with a monster interception whatever
- 3:35Speaker 1: you want to call it. I believe it was an
- 3:37Speaker 1: interception against in the in the playoffs, and so I
- 3:44Speaker 1: think you look at that track record there he comes
- 3:48Speaker 1: to Philadelphia. Yes, the Eagles drafted QUINNYA. Mitchell and Cooper Degen.
- 3:52Speaker 1: They were high picks and a lot was expected and
- 3:54Speaker 1: they were already good players. But Christian Parker took them
- 3:57Speaker 1: from good to great, from good to becoming all pros.
- 4:01Speaker 1: And how many times have we seen examples of players
- 4:05Speaker 1: who were good but they never quite reached their potential.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Sometimes that falls on the player not putting the work in,
- 4:11Speaker 1: but also that falls on the coach for not maximizing
- 4:14Speaker 1: their talents. And I think what Christian Parker did was
- 4:17Speaker 1: get them up to speed very early on in their career.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Remember Cooper Degen didn't play for the first handful of
- 4:24Speaker 1: games because he was recovering from an offseason hamstring injury
- 4:27Speaker 1: that you know, shortened his rookie season or elongated the
- 4:32Speaker 1: process until he was able to get on the field.
- 4:34Speaker 1: And then Christian Parker implements him, and he's someone who
- 4:38Speaker 1: just jeled the bright d jailed seamlessly and quickly became
- 4:41Speaker 1: one of the better nickel defenders in the NFL. And
- 4:44Speaker 1: because he mastered that nickel role, I think Cooper dejen
- 4:49Speaker 1: was able to have a more comprehensive understanding of the
- 4:52Speaker 1: defense as a whole, and he flies around and has
- 4:55Speaker 1: plays with good fundamentals. Quinnon Mitchell already among the elite
- 4:59Speaker 1: for reminter corners in the NFL. Yes, they have that
- 5:03Speaker 1: inherent talent. But to suggest, and you know, for those
- 5:07Speaker 1: who want to criticize Kevin Patullo, well, I mean coaching matters.
- 5:11Speaker 1: If you're going to criticize Kevin Patullo about the offensive
- 5:14Speaker 1: coordinator role and his job that he did and say
- 5:17Speaker 1: how much coaching impacted it, well I think you have
- 5:19Speaker 1: to look at Christian Parker and look at it the
- 5:21Speaker 1: other way and say his coaching directly correlated to a
- 5:25Speaker 1: lot of success in the secondary, not only that raid
- 5:28Speaker 1: blanket ship, maybe more so in twenty twenty four. An
- 5:31Speaker 1: undrafted player who I thought really hit his stride in
- 5:33Speaker 1: twenty twenty four, good communicator, a traffic cop back there.
- 5:37Speaker 1: Vic Fangio likes him and trust him. Christian Parker thought
- 5:40Speaker 1: an awful lot of them. Drew mccooba is a rookie.
- 5:43Speaker 1: It started off a little shaky, but I thought that
- 5:45Speaker 1: he got a lot better from a communication standpoint, from
- 5:48Speaker 1: and being assignment sound perspective as the season wore on.
- 5:52Speaker 1: And that's no mistake. He's in a room with a
- 5:54Speaker 1: lot of veteran player not even a lot of veteran
- 5:56Speaker 1: players because that Dory Jackson was the oldest corner there,
- 5:59Speaker 1: but a lot of players who are well versed in
- 6:01Speaker 1: the coaching and ideologies and understanding of what Christian Parker
- 6:05Speaker 1: wants to do.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Hey, it's that time of the year that everyone's trying

- 8:27Speaker 4: Philly fans, game day.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Is stressful enough.

- 8:33Speaker 4: it comes to your cannabis, Camden Apothecary makes it easy.
- 8:37Speaker 4: This is the dispensary for sports fans, just minutes outside
- 8:41Speaker 4: of Philly, with plenty of free parking.
- 8:44Speaker 1: You'll be in and out.

- 9:21Speaker 4: great prices, and an experience made for Philly fans twenty
- 9:25Speaker 4: one and up.
- 9:26Speaker 1: So now you look at it and who would be
- 9:29Speaker 1: the obvious candidate in house to replace them, Well, that's
- 9:31Speaker 1: going to be Safeties coach Joe Casper if they choose
- 9:34Speaker 1: to go the internal route. Highly regarded, a young coach
- 9:38Speaker 1: who's on the assent. I've heard good things from. Whether
- 9:41Speaker 1: it's Drew mccoba, whether it's Marcus Epps, whomever, Brandon Johnson
- 9:50Speaker 1: it is. It's just his name comes up a lot
- 9:53Speaker 1: as well, much like Christian Parker's did early on when
- 9:57Speaker 1: he joined the Eagles, So that that's name you're going
- 10:00Speaker 1: to want to pay attention to and keep an eye on.
- 10:02Speaker 1: As they look to fill that role, and you take
- 10:05Speaker 1: a step back and look at what Christian Parker could
- 10:07Speaker 1: bring to the Dallas Cowboys. They're going to be disciplined,
- 10:10Speaker 1: They're going to be assigmon sound, They're going to be
- 10:13Speaker 1: far more equipped to master those fundamentals that I think
- 10:16Speaker 1: when you look at the Dallas Cowboys, they aren't a
- 10:18Speaker 1: disciplined team and their fundamentals are lacking. He's going to
- 10:22Speaker 1: bring some structure. Now, he is a young coach, but
- 10:25Speaker 1: he commands a room, and I think when you look
- 10:27Speaker 1: at a lot of these coaches, even Sean Desai, one
- 10:31Speaker 1: of his issues was that he didn't really command a room,
- 10:33Speaker 1: and Christian Parker certainly does. He has a track record
- 10:36Speaker 1: of success at multiple stops, and so I think that'll
- 10:40Speaker 1: help him build that credibility and then that relatability piece
- 10:43Speaker 1: that I believe is an underrated bonus. When you're getting
- 10:47Speaker 1: a coach like him that already has such a sharp
- 10:49Speaker 1: defensive mind, is obviously going to be a plus and
- 10:52Speaker 1: help him convey his message a lot smoother. I think
- 10:56Speaker 1: you're going to see a lot of those players start
- 10:59Speaker 1: to really take to his coaching, and I wouldn't be
- 11:01Speaker 1: surprised if he moves on from there and becomes a
- 11:04Speaker 1: head coach, if he's successful, because that's that's the caliber
- 11:09Speaker 1: of coach and the caliber of person and communicator and
- 11:13Speaker 1: leader that I believe that Christian Parker is. And that's
- 11:17Speaker 1: that's based solely off my assessment and conversations that I've
- 11:20Speaker 1: had with him from the two years of covering the
- 11:22Speaker 1: Eagles in which he's been the Eagles defensive backs coach
- 11:25Speaker 1: and past game coordinator. That's going to do it for
- 11:27Speaker 1: this edition of a Czech o'daly. I'm Andrew Decheco and
- 11:30Speaker 1: I'll catch you all on the next one.
