- 0:03Speaker 2: Contact at thedrivershow.com.au or DM the Drivers Show Insta page
- 0:07Speaker 2: to see what Paul and Gordie can do for you.
- 0:09Speaker 3: I had a friend who had one on order. He
- 0:11Speaker 3: was taking delivery this month and I texted him and
- 0:14Speaker 3: I said, have you taken delivery of the Mazda yet?
- 0:15Speaker 3: And he goes, no, no, not yet. It's coming in
- 0:17Speaker 3: a few weeks. I said, just cancel your order. You
- 0:19Speaker 3: will thank me later.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Wow.
- 0:21Speaker 3: And he goes, well, what would you have done if
- 0:23Speaker 3: I told you I had taken delivery? I'm like, I'll
- 0:25Speaker 3: probably have to lie to you and just tell you
- 0:27Speaker 3: how good it is.
- 0:28Speaker 1: The Drivers Show with Paul Marink.
- 0:30Speaker 4: And Gordie Waters.
- 0:38Speaker 5: Pavle Marek. Pavle Marek. Do not call him a silly Czech.
- 0:49Speaker 5: He will get mad. He will get Croatia. Just know
- 0:57Speaker 5: he is from fucking Croatia.
- 1:01Speaker 3: Very good. Can I just say something funny? Oh, please.
- 1:05Speaker 1: A bit of comedy to start a podcast off from Parflay.
- 1:09Speaker 3: So Bathurst is done. It's now the Tuesday after that
- 1:12Speaker 3: we're recording this. And I got a picture from someone.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 1:15Speaker 3: So it's a picture of a Holden Jackaroo with the
- 1:19Speaker 3: Holden Rally team. And it's signed, Dear Geordie, forget Taranas.
- 1:26Speaker 3: Keep With the Swift. Peter Brock.
- 1:29Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:30Speaker 3: Who is Geordie?
- 1:31Speaker 1: Yeah, so that's me.
- 1:32Speaker 3: Oh.
- 1:32Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:33Speaker 3: I see he's just spelt your name wrong.
- 1:36Speaker 1: He spelt my name wrong, even though I was going
- 1:38Speaker 1: out with his daughter. That was nice.
- 1:40Speaker 3: Yes. When he said it to me, I laughed out loud.
- 1:42Speaker 3: I'm like, oh, you poor bastard.
- 1:45Speaker 1: So what the backstory behind that is, yeah, Alex and
- 1:50Speaker 1: I had started, I think at that point we were
- 1:52Speaker 1: probably dating for about three months. Yes. And my mate
- 1:55Speaker 1: saw him at possibly a Bathurst, possibly some sort of
- 1:59Speaker 1: motor show. I'm not sure. And said, went up to
- 2:02Speaker 1: him and said, hey, we're Gordy's mates. And he froze
- 2:06Speaker 1: for a second and went, oh, all right. And they go,
- 2:10Speaker 1: he's thinking about getting a Tarana. And I think he
- 2:14Speaker 1: always laughed at me with my little GTI Swift. And
- 2:18Speaker 1: so he took this poster out, wrote, dear Jordy. Forget Taranis,
- 2:23Speaker 1: keep with the Swift, Peter Brock. On a Holden dealership poster,
- 2:27Speaker 1: which was quite funny.
- 2:28Speaker 3: So you kept this? Yeah.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Yeah, it's still there.
- 2:32Speaker 3: I love it.
- 2:32Speaker 1: I had to do the old, Gordon, come and get
- 2:35Speaker 1: your bloody things out of the garage.
- 2:38Speaker 4: Your mother and I have got a five-bedroom house and
- 2:41Speaker 4: we're fucking running out of space.
- 2:44Speaker 1: And the economy's broken. Yeah, the bloody, they've got all
- 2:48Speaker 1: this room and they don't want to store my shit anymore.
- 2:50Speaker 1: So I had to go and get all my stuff
- 2:52Speaker 1: and that poster came up. I was like, oh my God.
- 2:55Speaker 1: But it got me thinking, I had this memory of,
- 2:59Speaker 1: I remember, so they lived in a suburb called Nutfield. Now,
- 3:03Speaker 1: their farm was so big. I won't make that joke.
- 3:07Speaker 1: Their farm was so big that I think it was
- 3:10Speaker 1: the entire suburb of Nutfield, right? And I saw, I
- 3:14Speaker 1: was in my little GTI Swift and I was going,
- 3:17Speaker 1: we were going to university at the Trobe in Greensboro. Anyway.
- 3:22Speaker 1: I was driving. And so Greensboro is about 20 minutes
- 3:26Speaker 1: from where he lived. And I saw him in traffic
- 3:29Speaker 1: and I, he had his, I think back then he
- 3:31Speaker 1: was driving. Remember when the Monaro came out? It's 2008.
- 3:35Speaker 1: I think they had the GTS back then. Remember he
- 3:38Speaker 1: had the one with the Monaro written down the side,
- 3:40Speaker 1: that really big one. So he was, he was, I
- 3:42Speaker 1: think he was in that one. And, um, saw him
- 3:46Speaker 1: in traffic. I'm like, fuck it. I'm going to, I'm
- 3:48Speaker 1: going to beat him home. I'm going to beat him
- 3:49Speaker 1: back to his place. And I know he saw me
- 3:52Speaker 1: because we were right next to each other at the lights. So,
- 3:57Speaker 1: fanged it, right? And... I'm thinking I've got this, I've
- 4:02Speaker 1: got this. And then I'm like, I lost him. I'm like,
- 4:04Speaker 1: where the fuck? And then I saw him. I'm like,
- 4:06Speaker 1: Oh God, that's him over there. And I, I was
- 4:09Speaker 1: fanging it as much as I could. And I watched
- 4:11Speaker 1: this dude in the distance, just casually weave through traffic effortlessly.
- 4:17Speaker 1: I couldn't believe it. I was like, what the, it
- 4:19Speaker 1: was bumper to bumper and he's fanging through it. And
- 4:23Speaker 1: he would have been taking corners at about 60. Like
- 4:25Speaker 1: it was incredible. Anyway. So at one point, I'm like,
- 4:30Speaker 1: I'm sure I got him and I nicked him on
- 4:32Speaker 1: the thing. And their driveway lasted for ages. It was
- 4:35Speaker 1: a mountain in itself going up there. And I'm like,
- 4:38Speaker 1: I think I've got him. Anyway, sure enough, I walked
- 4:40Speaker 1: into the lounge room. There he is on the couch,
- 4:43Speaker 1: shirt off. Oh, g'day, Gordy. How you going? That is
- 4:45Speaker 1: so good. He just kicked my ass.
- 4:48Speaker 3: I love that.
- 4:49Speaker 4: Royally.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Yeah. Fucking forget Taranas. Keep with the Swift. Should have
- 4:55Speaker 1: done it.
- 4:56Speaker 3: Well, I'll tell you what, it was.
- 4:57Speaker 1: The Bathurst was a bit of a snooze.
- 4:59Speaker 3: Good Bathurst. A bit of a snooze fest up until
- 5:01Speaker 3: 30 minutes.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:03Speaker 3: Like, it was... You could not have scripted that ending. Like,
- 5:06Speaker 3: it was unbelievable. I was genuinely edge of seat, and
- 5:11Speaker 3: I thought, oh, he's got this. And then, out of nowhere,
- 5:14Speaker 3: it's just like, no, you're out of fuel. How do
- 5:17Speaker 3: you have made it to the top of the mountain?
- 5:18Speaker 3: It's like, could you have had enough to just... Slide down.
- 5:22Speaker 3: Hold everyone up a little? I know Conrad's long and whatever, but...
- 5:26Speaker 3: How do you fuck that up? I just do not
- 5:28Speaker 3: understand how you go, oh, yeah, she'll be right. Maybe
- 5:31Speaker 3: they were running like Claude in Sonnet instead of Fable,
- 5:34Speaker 3: and it's like, no, you're right, mate. Just don't worry
- 5:36Speaker 3: about the extra second of fuel. You won't need it.
- 5:39Speaker 1: I mean, it's a risk you've got to take. Like,
- 5:40Speaker 1: what are they going to do? What if they filled up?
- 5:42Speaker 3: Well, you fucking finish the race. Because that's the thing.
- 5:45Speaker 3: He was a DNF. So the fact, you would have
- 5:47Speaker 3: been better off going into the pits, doing a splash
- 5:50Speaker 3: of fuel, and coming last than... Literally just DNFing.
- 5:54Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 5:54Speaker 3: You imagine doing over 160 laps and then DNFing.
- 5:59Speaker 1: After the grand final, I was like, I don't need
- 6:02Speaker 1: this shit anymore. It's the last half an hour. But
- 6:04Speaker 1: the thing is, I actually couldn't watch it. I had
- 6:07Speaker 1: to go to a family thing. So I made sure
- 6:10Speaker 1: my phone was off. I was going to watch it
- 6:11Speaker 1: when I got home. And then, sure enough, I opened Instagram.
- 6:13Speaker 1: I think I saw something on yours. I was like,
- 6:16Speaker 1: what the fuck? All right, thanks for that.
- 6:18Speaker 3: I heard they did Wharfie time, like three laps.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Before the end. So, yeah, I just ended up watching
- 6:25Speaker 1: the replay of the last 30 minutes or so.
- 6:29Speaker 3: It's such an iconic race.
- 6:32Speaker 1: How do you feel about it these days, where it's
- 6:34Speaker 1: like the... Um, shit, well, I guess it's Mustang versus... Yeah.
- 6:39Speaker 3: It's not what it was. And I went to fish
- 6:41Speaker 3: out one of my HSVs to go to this Bathurst party.
- 6:44Speaker 3: I could not find my fucking logbook anywhere, because it
- 6:47Speaker 3: was on Club Ridge, and if the police pull you over,
- 6:50Speaker 3: it's like a fucking $ 900 fine. I could not find
- 6:53Speaker 3: this logbook. I was just having a shit day, and
- 6:55Speaker 3: then I had.
- 6:56Speaker 1: What do you need a logbook for?
- 6:57Speaker 3: Food poisoning. Because if you get.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Oh, you were going to use your club cars.
- 7:02Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:02Speaker 1: You were going to use your, oh.
- 7:03Speaker 3: I was just going to drive the HSV to this
- 7:06Speaker 3: Bathurst party.
- 7:07Speaker 1: Oh, I thought you meant like you were going to
- 7:08Speaker 1: get a jacket or something. I'm like, oh.
- 7:09Speaker 3: Oh, I've got a HSV jacket as well. Yeah. That
- 7:11Speaker 3: was packed in the back seat, but it was 25
- 7:12Speaker 3: and sunny. But that was the problem. I got the
- 7:15Speaker 3: car all set up and ready, and I could not
- 7:17Speaker 3: find the logbook anywhere. And I knew if I fucking
- 7:19Speaker 3: drove it, I would get pulled over, and they'd go,
- 7:21Speaker 3: where's your logbook? And I'd go, I don't have one.
- 7:23Speaker 3: And they'd be like, well, here's a $ 900 fine. So anyway,
- 7:27Speaker 3: but yeah, that was my Bathurst day.
- 7:30Speaker 1: Wow.
- 7:31Speaker 3: Riveting.
- 7:31Speaker 1: About this party.
- 7:32Speaker 3: I think I paid the bills. The lights are flickering
- 7:34Speaker 3: in here.
- 7:34Speaker 1: No, I doubt they are.
- 7:35Speaker 3: After the incident, it seems like it's... I.
- 7:41Speaker 1: Need this job. The electricity's left as well. You know
- 7:44Speaker 1: about my financial woes?
- 7:47Speaker 3: Yes.
- 7:47Speaker 1: You know what? I came the closest ever to buying
- 7:49Speaker 1: a fucking Porsche.
- 7:50Speaker 3: Oh, watch out.
- 7:51Speaker 1: So, yeah, really nice one. I went down to Melbourne
- 7:54Speaker 1: to see it. And it was good. Really good, Nick.
- 7:59Speaker 1: The pre-purchase. Got to get one of those every time.
- 8:04Speaker 1: So the price was like, we agreed on a pretty
- 8:06Speaker 1: good price. And to be honest, I think if I
- 8:08Speaker 1: was in a better spot where a bit more, when
- 8:10Speaker 1: I was feeling a bit more lavish.
- 8:11Speaker 4: Mm-hmm.
- 8:12Speaker 1: Um, cause the pre-purchase came up and I thought, okay.
- 8:15Speaker 3: Like if you got the breakfast show or something.
- 8:17Speaker 1: Yeah, maybe, maybe if I was getting breakfast show money
- 8:19Speaker 1: instead of like, here's Gordo on the workday, here's another
- 8:22Speaker 1: Justin Bieber song. Uh, that'd be nice. Uh, anyway, so
- 8:27Speaker 1: got the, um, got the pre-purchase done and, uh, it
- 8:31Speaker 1: was like an extra, yeah, it was at least another
- 8:35Speaker 1: 10 grand. Didn't have the IMS done. Didn't have the breaks.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Didn't have the, needed the breaks, needed the, So the pads,
- 8:42Speaker 1: the rotors, the bump stops.
- 8:43Speaker 3: Was it a Cayman?
- 8:45Speaker 1: No.
- 8:45Speaker 3: 9-11.
- 8:46Speaker 1: But it was like the 996.
- 8:46Speaker 3: Okay. Yep. Yeah.
- 8:51Speaker 1: What else did it need? It needed some work with
- 8:53Speaker 1: a belt and new tires. So all up, it was
- 8:58Speaker 1: around about... It was about 11 grand.
- 9:01Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 9:01Speaker 3: Right?
- 9:03Speaker 1: So then... I'm pricing it up to get it to
- 9:06Speaker 1: take it to New South Wales. So once you get
- 9:08Speaker 1: it on that truck, which I've got a pretty good price,
- 9:10Speaker 1: it's like 500 bucks. It's nothing. But then the amount
- 9:14Speaker 1: of fucking slips you need in this state, pink slip,
- 9:16Speaker 1: blue slip, green slip. Um, Because you need two in
- 9:23Speaker 1: the pink. I think it's the pink, and there's also
- 9:25Speaker 1: a brown slip as well. So, yeah, it's one of
- 9:30Speaker 1: the brown, and no one wants to get the brown,
- 9:32Speaker 1: so they call it the stink. So there's like a
- 9:35Speaker 1: bit of a... Stink bug. You go down, in fact,
- 9:38Speaker 1: if you go down to Service NSW and ask for
- 9:41Speaker 1: one in the pink, two in the stink... They will...
- 9:46Speaker 1: They will probably have you arrested, but you're just like, hey,
- 9:48Speaker 1: I'm just trying to get my.
- 9:49Speaker 3: Car on the road. I'm trying to get my car
- 9:51Speaker 3: on the road.
- 9:52Speaker 1: How's about doing the pink one that's pink? I don't...
- 9:57Speaker 1: And then you get the green slip, and that's... a
- 10:01Speaker 1: trip to the doctor so yeah like all up it's
- 10:05Speaker 1: fucking like four five grand on top of that and
- 10:07Speaker 1: I'm like I'm pretty much paying an extra sixteen bucks
- 10:12Speaker 1: sixteen thousand dollars on top of the asking price so
- 10:15Speaker 1: how does.
- 10:16Speaker 3: It work you in New South Wales you have to
- 10:18Speaker 3: get a road worthy every year Is that right?
- 10:21Speaker 1: Over... Yes, effectively. But it's not as detailed as a
- 10:25Speaker 1: Victorian one.
- 10:26Speaker 3: But.
- 10:27Speaker 1: I don't actually think... I think it's after a car's
- 10:29Speaker 1: five years old.
- 10:30Speaker 3: Okay. Yeah. That's annoying.
- 10:32Speaker 1: So, yeah, but it's like an $ 80 job down at
- 10:36Speaker 1: Midas or something. So it's not too bad. But, yeah,
- 10:40Speaker 1: I was like... And then plus, I also thought to myself,
- 10:43Speaker 1: it's a fucking 996. I'm going to have to have
- 10:46Speaker 1: reserves because shit will go wrong for maintaining.
- 10:49Speaker 3: So.
- 10:50Speaker 1: It was a bit of a lesson. It was a
- 10:52Speaker 1: bit of a lesson.
- 10:52Speaker 3: Lesson learned.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Lesson learned.
- 10:54Speaker 3: Steph could have told you that.
- 10:56Speaker 1: Yeah, she could have. She's got the Hyundai. What has
- 10:58Speaker 1: she got again? A Hyundai fucking Spice Girls Spirit or something?
- 11:05Speaker 1: What's the spray they used to use in the 90s?
- 11:07Speaker 1: You know, the guys had Lynx Africa?
- 11:08Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 11:09Speaker 1: What did the girls have?
- 11:10Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 11:11Speaker 5: A spray?
- 11:12Speaker 3: Oh, that's right.
- 11:13Speaker 1: It was....
- 11:15Speaker 3: Yeah, something.
- 11:16Speaker 1: You used to spray it on your pussy. Absolutely. Like
- 11:19Speaker 1: the family cat used to get sprayed by this all
- 11:21Speaker 1: the fucking time.
- 11:22Speaker 3: The skunk they called me. Yes. What is this?
- 11:27Speaker 1: This is, this is. Now, where have you been?
- 11:31Speaker 3: So I just spent 24 hours in Milan. Oh, all right.
- 11:36Speaker 1: Fancy pants.
- 11:38Speaker 3: Driving the... I can continue with my excellent Italian here.
- 11:42Speaker 3: The Ferrari Dodici Cilindri Manuale. Okay.
- 11:46Speaker 1: For those playing at home, officially, because I've been practicing this,
- 11:50Speaker 1: the Ferrari... Here we go. Leonardo da Vinci Manuale.
- 11:57Speaker 3: Cappuccino.
- 11:58Speaker 1: India celebrates Diwali.
- 11:59Speaker 3: Yeah. There you go. That's it. So, it is the
- 12:03Speaker 3: manual Dodici.
- 12:05Speaker 4: Now.
- 12:06Speaker 3: Before you jump up and down and you start slapping
- 12:09Speaker 3: your fucking screens and all this shit, because it's not
- 12:12Speaker 3: a real manual.
- 12:13Speaker 1: I fucking saw comments like that. Whenever someone was reviewing
- 12:16Speaker 1: this car, showing off this car, usually I'll go to
- 12:19Speaker 1: the comments, especially with Shmee, because fucking people rubbish Shmee.
- 12:23Speaker 4: Shmee.
- 12:25Speaker 1: I'm in a fantastic Quattrofolio that I bought with my
- 12:29Speaker 1: father's medicine company money. I also have a tiny penis
- 12:34Speaker 1: and a triple chin.
- 12:35Speaker 3: Yes.
- 12:38Speaker 1: But every time, everyone's like, it's not a real manual.
- 12:42Speaker 3: And I wanted to think that. But unfortunately, as much
- 12:46Speaker 3: as I wanted to think that, I actually came away
- 12:48Speaker 3: liking it. And it was because I actually learned how
- 12:50Speaker 3: it was made. And I'm going to just bore you
- 12:53Speaker 3: with some engineering here, but it is an incredible thing.
- 12:56Speaker 3: Of course. So it's limited to, I think it was
- 12:59Speaker 3: 1,499 units, which was the... the displacement of the first Ferrari,
- 13:05Speaker 3: which is how they're trying to justify it being 50%
- 13:08Speaker 3: more expensive than a regular Dodici. But yeah, basically the
- 13:12Speaker 3: way that it works is you've got, this is patented
- 13:14Speaker 3: by Ferrari. They've built this sort of super strong alloy
- 13:19Speaker 3: frame for the gear stick that sits in the center console.
- 13:24Speaker 3: The gear stick itself has this sort of network of
- 13:27Speaker 3: rollers and cams to make it self-center and to make
- 13:31Speaker 3: it feel like you're actually shifting a gear. So they've
- 13:34Speaker 3: replicated what it's like to run a H-gate. Now that
- 13:38Speaker 3: side of things is cool, but what is really cool
- 13:40Speaker 3: is the clutch operation. So it uses a dual clutch transmission,
- 13:45Speaker 3: but a lot of people don't understand a dual clutch
- 13:47Speaker 3: transmission has clutches. They're electronically controlled and the computer goes,
- 13:51Speaker 3: I need you to shift gears as fast as you can. Well,
- 13:54Speaker 3: what you can do is if you manually control a clutch,
- 13:58Speaker 3: you can actually simulate a regular manual, because in a manual,
- 14:02Speaker 3: when you push a clutch pedal, all you're doing is
- 14:05Speaker 3: actuating a spring that basically disengages the clutch so the
- 14:08Speaker 3: engine is free-spinning. When you release the clutch and the
- 14:12Speaker 3: clutch engages again... Gear. You're basically in gear. You've got
- 14:15Speaker 3: direct drive. What Ferrari has done, the clutch pedal also
- 14:19Speaker 3: has a cam and a roller and a spring, and
- 14:24Speaker 3: the profile of the pedal matches... the exact resistance you'd
- 14:29Speaker 3: expect in a manual Ferrari. So it produces 11 kilos
- 14:34Speaker 3: of force that pushes against your foot. And throughout the
- 14:37Speaker 3: clutch travel, you get different resistance. So it peaks at
- 14:41Speaker 3: 11 kilos. So it feels like you're actually pushing clutch.
- 14:44Speaker 3: That clutch pedal is attached to a position sensor. That
- 14:48Speaker 3: position sensor is what is telling how much clutch to
- 14:51Speaker 3: either engage or disengage. So when you're driving it, You
- 14:55Speaker 3: can stall the car because if you just release the
- 14:57Speaker 3: clutch suddenly, you're engaging a clutch fast and then you
- 15:01Speaker 3: stall the car. If you release the clutch slowly, you
- 15:05Speaker 3: can slip the clutch to then have the car do
- 15:07Speaker 3: what you would do in any other manual. This is
- 15:10Speaker 3: literally a manual without a cable between the clutch and
- 15:15Speaker 3: the actual clutch itself. You're not pressing a hydraulic arm
- 15:18Speaker 3: or anything like that. And when people go, it's not
- 15:21Speaker 3: a real manual. Well, we went from having a manual
- 15:23Speaker 3: that was actuated by a cable and a spring to
- 15:26Speaker 3: a manual that was actuated in late 80s by hydraulic
- 15:30Speaker 3: master cylinder to now a manual that is electronically actuated.
- 15:34Speaker 3: It is the same shit, in my opinion. And when
- 15:38Speaker 3: I say I didn't want to like this car, I thought...
- 15:41Speaker 3: It's not going to feel like a manual.
- 15:42Speaker 1: Did you understand how it worked before going in?
- 15:45Speaker 3: No. So when they ran me through, because I thought
- 15:46Speaker 3: it was just a dual clutch that they just fucked
- 15:49Speaker 3: around with a bit.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Yeah, a simulation sort of thing.
- 15:52Speaker 3: It is, when you're driving it, you are basically, you
- 15:55Speaker 3: have the same hallmarks of a manual. You get engine braking.
- 15:58Speaker 3: You get, if you don't rev match, you're getting inconsistent shifts.
- 16:03Speaker 3: Like it is, it feels like a genuine manual to drive.
- 16:06Speaker 3: Where it doesn't feel like a genuine manual is taking
- 16:09Speaker 3: off from a standing start in a hurry normally if
- 16:13Speaker 3: you're going to take off fast in a manual you
- 16:15Speaker 3: want to slip the clutch to a degree depending on
- 16:17Speaker 3: whether it's a manual or an auto and then you
- 16:19Speaker 3: sort of walk it off the line and then you
- 16:21Speaker 3: go for it this doesn't have that characteristic so that
- 16:25Speaker 3: is is shit and that's also why launch control only
- 16:27Speaker 3: works in auto mode and this is the other cool
- 16:29Speaker 3: thing as well when you're done driving it as a
- 16:31Speaker 3: manual you press a button and then it's an auto
- 16:35Speaker 3: and Now, that to me, having driven the 992.2 GT3 manual,
- 16:41Speaker 3: it was a pain in the ass as a manual
- 16:42Speaker 3: because they fucked around with the gear ratios to get
- 16:45Speaker 3: the performance benefit they needed after it had its power reduction.
- 16:50Speaker 3: So that was an annoying car because it was sitting
- 16:52Speaker 3: at like 3,000 RPM at 100, but that's because it
- 16:54Speaker 3: is a six-speed manual. This is an eight-speed dual clutch.
- 16:58Speaker 3: So when you put it in auto mode, it is
- 17:00Speaker 3: just going up to its highest gear and just relaxing.
- 17:03Speaker 1: And how does it go in auto as well? Like,
- 17:05Speaker 1: how does it perform as an auto?
- 17:06Speaker 3: Just like a normal day, did you? Wow.
- 17:07Speaker 1: Yeah, I reckon those sorts of things are fucking cool.
- 17:11Speaker 1: And I think if anyone's going to pull it off
- 17:13Speaker 1: really well, it's going to be a Ferrari. Yeah. The work,
- 17:16Speaker 1: the engineering that goes in. And by the way, this
- 17:18Speaker 1: is unpopular opinion. If you look at a Porsche GT3 RS, fucking,
- 17:23Speaker 1: it is a punish to drive around as a daily.
- 17:26Speaker 1: It's actually a shit car to drive around as a daily.
- 17:29Speaker 1: It's too harsh. You'd want that thing to go in
- 17:33Speaker 1: as an auto.
- 17:34Speaker 3: Yeah. No paddles. Yeah. So you could basically engage and
- 17:37Speaker 3: disengage the manual whenever you want. You just push the
- 17:39Speaker 3: clutch pedal and it's in manual mode. Wow.
- 17:42Speaker 1: Sounds good too. I did see that video.
- 17:44Speaker 3: So I went for a drive with one of their professional, like,
- 17:48Speaker 3: dynamics guys and um he kicked the shit out of
- 17:50Speaker 3: this thing and uh it was still fucking terrifying from
- 17:54Speaker 3: because we were at the balocco proving ground which is
- 17:56Speaker 3: owned by stelantis uh but it's sort of where they
- 18:00Speaker 3: do all the testing for ferraris and um it was
- 18:03Speaker 3: wet so he was absolutely going for it it was
- 18:06Speaker 3: unreal uh then we also drove the ferrari the pure
- 18:09Speaker 3: sungway handling speciale which is basically like a package that
- 18:12Speaker 3: you can get now for the pure sungway oh louder exhaust,
- 18:16Speaker 3: sharper gear shifts, all that sort of stuff. And that
- 18:19Speaker 3: was also unhinged. When you go to a car launch,
- 18:22Speaker 3: because they like to manage safety and risk and all
- 18:25Speaker 3: that sort of stuff, typically, if you're at a track,
- 18:29Speaker 3: you will follow a race driver.
- 18:32Speaker 1: Like a track car.
- 18:32Speaker 3: Yeah, and they will generally be driving 7 tenths or
- 18:36Speaker 3: something like that. If you're confident and you're up their arse,
- 18:38Speaker 3: they will pick up the pace a little bit. The
- 18:40Speaker 3: Ferrari drivers are absolutely unhinged. It is my first time
- 18:45Speaker 3: at this track, and they are like a bat out
- 18:48Speaker 3: of hell. And I'm like, holy fuck, I need to
- 18:50Speaker 3: try and keep up with these guys. And with the
- 18:52Speaker 3: Pura Sangwe, once I got to know the track, this
- 18:54Speaker 3: wasn't even a racetrack. It was like a road course
- 18:57Speaker 3: that's at this proving ground. He was driving the wheels
- 19:00Speaker 3: off this thing, and I'm trying to keep up with him.
- 19:02Speaker 3: It had elevation changes. It was unbelievable. That Pura Sangwe
- 19:06Speaker 3: is like a little sports car. It's ridiculous. Yeah. Anyway,
- 19:10Speaker 3: that was my 24 hours in Milano.
- 19:14Speaker 1: When are we getting those?
- 19:15Speaker 3: So they'll be coming to Australia next year, priced $ 1. 2
- 19:18Speaker 3: million for the Dodici. And the thing is, you have
- 19:21Speaker 3: to get tailor-made. So the car comes with unique-looking wheels,
- 19:25Speaker 3: and the wheels look absolutely stunning. But you must order
- 19:28Speaker 3: it with tailor-made. So the $ 1. 2 is a starting price.
- 19:30Speaker 3: You're probably going to find that these cars will be
- 19:32Speaker 3: well over $ 2 million by the time they land. And
- 19:34Speaker 3: very rare as well. But yeah, it's fascinating technology. And
- 19:38Speaker 3: I think that they've patented it now. Mercedes is looking
- 19:42Speaker 3: to do something similar. So I think we're going to
- 19:43Speaker 3: see this in more and more cars in the not
- 19:45Speaker 3: too distant future.
- 19:46Speaker 1: Hey, did you see the Luce was briefly in Australia
- 19:51Speaker 1: for a thingy a little cute launch did you guys
- 19:53Speaker 1: see it oh you've already seen it did you go
- 19:56Speaker 1: I didn't go no it's not my not my cup
- 19:59Speaker 1: of tea it's a bit too influencey for me when
- 20:01Speaker 1: it gets to.
- 20:01Speaker 3: Those sorts of what's up it's good hey boys hey
- 20:05Speaker 3: guys this is Geordie get out of the.
- 20:07Speaker 1: Way hey guys hey yeah I did what Brockie said.
- 20:10Speaker 3: I came with a swift. That's it. Upgrading to a lucha. Yeah.
- 20:14Speaker 1: Too big for a lucha. Hey, did you see the
- 20:18Speaker 1: Mitsubishi ASX came out? ASX? Sounds like a stock exchange thing. Yeah.
- 20:23Speaker 3: Are you talking about the electric one?
- 20:25Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 20:26Speaker 3: Oh, what's it fucking called?
- 20:28Speaker 1: It's... Hey, while you look that up, have you seen
- 20:30Speaker 1: that guy on Insta who takes on the, what do
- 20:33Speaker 1: you call it, the Nürburgring? And he does all these
- 20:36Speaker 1: different cars.
- 20:37Speaker 2: No.
- 20:37Speaker 1: And he's a fucking beast of a dude.
- 20:40Speaker 3: Oh, Misha.
- 20:41Speaker 1: Is that him? Yeah. He's got an accent.
- 20:44Speaker 3: Yes, yes, yeah, yeah. Yeah.
- 20:47Speaker 1: Yep. I've literally just found him the last couple of days.
- 20:50Speaker 1: I've been sleeping on this. I'm like, oh, this guy's crazy.
- 20:53Speaker 3: Legend of a bloke.
- 20:53Speaker 1: And every now and then he'll have a stack, but
- 20:56Speaker 1: he'll fucking be like, hang on, this isn't right. And
- 20:59Speaker 1: I think he was in a Jag or something.
- 21:01Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 21:02Speaker 1: And- he found out that like it had been crashed before.
- 21:06Speaker 3: And he's like, he's like the brake fluid. Yeah.
- 21:09Speaker 1: Before, like before he spun it out, he's like, something
- 21:13Speaker 1: doesn't feel right about this car. It's just not responding
- 21:16Speaker 1: how it should. And then, and then, yeah, he found
- 21:20Speaker 1: out that they'd had a fucking stack.
- 21:21Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 21:22Speaker 1: And didn't tell him, he's like, you probably should have
- 21:24Speaker 1: told me because you just fucking nearly cost me my life.
- 21:27Speaker 1: That dude is incredible.
- 21:29Speaker 3: They have, there's a lot of people that do that
- 21:31Speaker 3: sort of stuff at the Nürburgring and they've kind of
- 21:33Speaker 3: cracked down on it. They don't let you publish crashes anymore. Oh.
- 21:36Speaker 3: It's like a rule that they've put up, which is weird.
- 21:38Speaker 3: Like people still publish them if they're standing on the side,
- 21:41Speaker 3: but you can't publish it if you are in the
- 21:43Speaker 3: car or something. It's some weird rule.
- 21:45Speaker 1: It is fucking weird.
- 21:47Speaker 3: Now the Mitsubishi, it is the ASX VRE and it
- 21:50Speaker 3: is basically a, a foxtron which is a chinese car
- 21:54Speaker 3: brand foxtron also uh manufactures iphones with those little electronic hands.
- 22:01Speaker 1: Okay what do you mean electronic hands just a little
- 22:04Speaker 1: you know oh little fingers i think you've been hanging
- 22:06Speaker 1: out with trevor too long just talking about bloody tech.
- 22:09Speaker 3: Products yeah but um yeah so foxtron is doing cars
- 22:13Speaker 3: and this is the thing that mitsubishi is doing in
- 22:15Speaker 3: the hope that you know, stuff will happen and whatever.
- 22:18Speaker 3: But look, it's interesting because pricing is still TBC, but
- 22:23Speaker 3: it has some pretty decent specs. Like they've got one
- 22:27Speaker 3: version of this, which is like 0 to 100 in,
- 22:30Speaker 3: so the base model is 0 to 106.8, but the
- 22:33Speaker 3: fast one, 3.9 seconds. That's a little zippy little thing,
- 22:37Speaker 3: but just like the Mazda, the bloody Mazda CX-6E, is
- 22:42Speaker 3: one of the worst cars I've ever driven. No, it's
- 22:44Speaker 3: an SUV. Yeah.
- 22:46Speaker 1: What's the, what's the sedan one? I mean, yeah, the
- 22:49Speaker 1: sedan's like coming out soon too. Cause I got a
- 22:51Speaker 1: mate fucking, yeah, I got a, uh, a car journo
- 22:55Speaker 1: mate who was raving about that fucking thing.
- 22:58Speaker 3: The sedan.
- 22:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 22:59Speaker 3: The sedan was fine when I drove it.
- 23:00Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 23:01Speaker 3: Um, the SUV, my goodness, we, I know we're getting
- 23:04Speaker 3: off the topic of the Mitsubishi here, but I've sort
- 23:06Speaker 3: of jumped in it and I'm like, Hmm, okay. Something is,
- 23:10Speaker 3: isn't right here. Um, I put it in reverse, the
- 23:12Speaker 3: reverse camera just would not work or it would work
- 23:15Speaker 3: for a fraction of a second and then stop working entirely.
- 23:18Speaker 3: It has the most annoying driver assistance, bullshit systems that
- 23:22Speaker 3: tell you to fucking keep your eye on the road
- 23:24Speaker 3: and all that sort of stuff. The screen is just
- 23:27Speaker 3: unbelievably useless. It is, it spans across the center and
- 23:31Speaker 3: the passenger side.
- 23:32Speaker 1: Oh yeah.
- 23:33Speaker 3: Virtually unusable while you're driving. It's, it's so complicated. Um,
- 23:37Speaker 3: It was such a frustrating car to drive that I
- 23:39Speaker 3: just could not wait to hand it back. Overzealous stability control.
- 23:42Speaker 3: You can't even accelerate on a gravel road. Like, it
- 23:44Speaker 3: goes bananas. So if you want to actually drive it
- 23:47Speaker 3: in Australian conditions, the thing just doesn't work because it's
- 23:50Speaker 3: drivable drive only. So, yeah, it is just not a
- 23:54Speaker 3: good car. And I had a friend who had one
- 23:56Speaker 3: on order that was taking delivery this month. And I
- 23:59Speaker 3: texted him and I said, have you taken delivery of
- 24:01Speaker 3: the Mazda yet? And he goes, no, no, no. Yeah,
- 24:03Speaker 3: it's coming in a few weeks. I said, just cancel
- 24:05Speaker 3: your order. You will thank me later.
- 24:07Speaker 4: Wow.
- 24:07Speaker 3: And he goes, well, what would you have done if
- 24:10Speaker 3: I told you I had taken delivery? I'd probably have
- 24:12Speaker 3: to lie to you and just tell you how good
- 24:13Speaker 3: it is.
- 24:14Speaker 1: How good is it, champ?
- 24:15Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 24:16Speaker 3: And Mazda's excuse was piss poor. They said that the
- 24:19Speaker 3: software was pre-production software or something. And I'm like, mate,
- 24:22Speaker 3: you had the car on your launch, your media launch.
- 24:25Speaker 3: You then gave it to us to drive. So you're
- 24:27Speaker 3: giving me a car that has no reversing camera. It's
- 24:30Speaker 3: not good enough.
- 24:31Speaker 1: We've spoken about when car brands give out these cars
- 24:35Speaker 1: that are not ready and they give them to car journos.
- 24:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:39Speaker 1: If that's the case, you deserve everything you fucking get.
- 24:41Speaker 3: Imagine what a customer gets.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Yeah, because I've seen this done so many times. I
- 24:45Speaker 1: won't name names, PYD. No, I've seen these happen a
- 24:49Speaker 1: few times. And it pisses me off because it's like,
- 24:51Speaker 1: hang on, you're giving your car so people could give
- 24:54Speaker 1: your customers advice on them. And yet you're giving them
- 24:58Speaker 1: something that's not ready for market. Like fucking don't do that.
- 25:01Speaker 3: Yep. A hundred percent. And it's a platform share with
- 25:03Speaker 3: the depot. That's like 47 grand drive away. So they're
- 25:08Speaker 3: just selling a car with a different badge on it.
- 25:11Speaker 3: The boot is completely useless. There's like no underfloor storage.
- 25:16Speaker 3: It's a tiny boot. Like I just do not understand
- 25:18Speaker 3: the car. I would spend whatever the cost difference is
- 25:21Speaker 3: to get a model Y because it is a significantly
- 25:23Speaker 3: better car. Even the... I just drove the base Model 3,
- 25:27Speaker 3: the $ 45, 000 one. They have stripped everything out of that. Like,
- 25:31Speaker 3: it's got a manual steering wheel. The seat adjustment controls
- 25:33Speaker 3: are on the screen instead of... They've removed the buttons
- 25:36Speaker 3: off the seat. But for $ 45, 000, it is unbelievable value
- 25:41Speaker 3: for money.
- 25:41Speaker 1: They've gone right down. I was in a... What was
- 25:44Speaker 1: the EV4?
- 25:46Speaker 3: Yep.
- 25:47Speaker 1: The Kia EV4, which is similar. Like, it's a sedan,
- 25:50Speaker 1: electric sedan.
- 25:51Speaker 3: Yep.
- 25:52Speaker 1: They wanted 70 grand for that drive away.
- 25:54Speaker 3: I wouldn't have thought so.
- 25:55Speaker 1: And I just thought, don't do that.
- 25:57Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:57Speaker 1: Because the moment, yeah, because the moment you put 70
- 26:00Speaker 1: grand up to that, you're putting that up against some
- 26:03Speaker 1: fucking excellent competition.
- 26:05Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 26:06Speaker 1: And hey, you're not that excellent. Yeah. You're a very
- 26:10Speaker 1: niche looking car.
- 26:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 26:12Speaker 1: You look like a storm trooper that's ready for Mardi Gras. Yeah.
- 26:16Speaker 1: And the inside, like, the inside is cool. Like, it's
- 26:18Speaker 1: interesting enough. I do like that because, you know, like,
- 26:20Speaker 1: a lot of EVs look very sterile on the inside. So, yeah,
- 26:23Speaker 1: it's a bit diff. But, yeah, I thought you can't
- 26:28Speaker 1: do that with $ 70, 000. BYD Seals, roughly $ 60, 000 before, you know,
- 26:35Speaker 1: $ 60, 000 drive away. The Model 3 is $ 50, 000 something drive away.
- 26:40Speaker 3: Like, for the full spec. Yeah, but even the $ 45, 000 one,
- 26:43Speaker 3: it doesn't feel like you're getting some... Basement shitter.
- 26:46Speaker 1: Yeah, even a sealed performance isn't $ 70, 000.
- 26:48Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know. Legacy car brands are really in
- 26:52Speaker 3: a spot of bother. Have a look at Toyota. It
- 26:55Speaker 3: was just announced today that they've been hit with a
- 26:58Speaker 3: $ 750 million settlement for their DPF issue. And you still
- 27:02Speaker 3: see it today, these Toyotas driving around spewing white smoke
- 27:05Speaker 3: out of their exhaust because... The owners either don't know
- 27:09Speaker 3: or haven't bothered to get the DPF fixed, and that
- 27:11Speaker 3: is just spewing toxic shit out of its exhaust because
- 27:17Speaker 3: the DPF isn't working. The DPF is designed to capture
- 27:20Speaker 3: these particles and burn them off. So, yeah, Toyota settled
- 27:23Speaker 3: for 750 mil, half of which probably went to lawyers,
- 27:26Speaker 3: but it is what it is.
- 27:30Speaker 1: Real quick, I had the Aura 5, the GM.
- 27:33Speaker 3: Oh, yes, GWM.
- 27:34Speaker 1: Yeah, GWM Aura 5. sterile as fuck looking car. Looks
- 27:40Speaker 1: like any other EV coming out. This is a car
- 27:43Speaker 1: I'd buy for my mum if she didn't like... She
- 27:46Speaker 1: fucking hates electric cars. I fucking hate electric cars. One
- 27:50Speaker 1: thing I'll say is it's just easy. They've totally just... gone, hey,
- 27:55Speaker 1: don't worry about the bings and the bongs and all
- 27:57Speaker 1: that sort of shit. It's pretty easy. It's an easy-to-get-around car.
- 28:00Speaker 1: It's fucking comfortable. It's cheap.
- 28:03Speaker 3: But you know what? GWM, they've fixed one of the
- 28:05Speaker 3: biggest issues I had, which was the infotainment systems. If
- 28:08Speaker 3: you look at the new Canon plug-in hybrid, which is
- 28:10Speaker 3: also a $ 50, 000 driver, which is unbelievable.
- 28:12Speaker 1: And also a bloody good car, too.
- 28:14Speaker 3: That thing, they've now got the new Coffee OS system
- 28:17Speaker 3: in it. It is amazing. It is such a big
- 28:19Speaker 3: departure from the old system, and it would be the
- 28:21Speaker 3: thing that would prevent me from buying the car, but
- 28:23Speaker 3: that has now been overhauled, and a 50 grand drive
- 28:26Speaker 3: away for a plug-in hybrid ute that is pretty class-leading
- 28:28Speaker 3: in terms of its specs. I just think that they're
- 28:31Speaker 3: a company that's going to have a fair bit of
- 28:33Speaker 3: stuff going for them. They've got heaps of cars coming
- 28:35Speaker 3: over the next six months as well, so it is
- 28:37Speaker 3: going to be a busy period for them.
- 28:39Speaker 1: I think in those days of GWM... kind of been
- 28:41Speaker 1: the really cheap shitty base option i think they're gone
- 28:45Speaker 1: because they're putting stuff together that makes them sit amongst
- 28:49Speaker 1: like some serious competitors and they're putting out arguably in
- 28:52Speaker 1: some ways a better product.
- 28:53Speaker 3: Yeah definitely.
- 28:56Speaker 1: Um what else have i had for uh what is
- 28:59Speaker 1: it the wolf track which is like a social yeah
- 29:02Speaker 1: a little uh little rebadged uh what is a glx
- 29:06Speaker 1: or something would you call it like the what's that
- 29:08Speaker 1: uh ford ranger that It was a bit mid-tier.
- 29:12Speaker 3: XLT?
- 29:13Speaker 1: That's it.
- 29:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 29:14Speaker 1: I feel like it's a rebadged one of that. Manual everything.
- 29:18Speaker 1: I'm going to call this out. I won't say who,
- 29:19Speaker 1: but I saw someone, another A car journalist, shitting on this.
- 29:23Speaker 1: And I thought to myself, whoa, like why? She was
- 29:26Speaker 1: shitting on the fact that it was 70 grand and
- 29:28Speaker 1: then there was nothing in it. It was like stripped back.
- 29:30Speaker 1: I think for me, when I get into something like
- 29:32Speaker 1: a Ranger, it feels put together so well. It feels solid.
- 29:36Speaker 1: It feels like you can go from one end of
- 29:38Speaker 1: Australia to the other.
- 29:39Speaker 3: But I.
- 29:40Speaker 1: uh i was also thinking you know what if you
- 29:42Speaker 1: were realistic about that you'd know no one's paying 70
- 29:46Speaker 1: grand for that car no one's paying 70 grand in
- 29:48Speaker 1: fact you could go into a ford dealership and i
- 29:50Speaker 1: guarantee you could get it for 60 i'd pay you
- 29:52Speaker 1: 70 grand yeah Like, I reckon you could get that
- 29:54Speaker 1: low 60s drive away easy. And it's a solid car.
- 29:58Speaker 1: It's really good. I drove it recently from Sydney to
- 30:01Speaker 1: Melbourne and back. We had a great time.
- 30:04Speaker 3: Well, you know, we sell cars through our website for
- 30:08Speaker 3: dealers that are signed up to our platform. I get
- 30:10Speaker 3: to look at the actual transaction prices. We sold a Ranger.
- 30:17Speaker 3: I didn't look close enough to see which spec it was.
- 30:19Speaker 3: $ 12, 000 off retail.
- 30:22Speaker 4: Wow.
- 30:23Speaker 3: So it shows you that if you use services like
- 30:26Speaker 3: ours where we know the deals that have the stock,
- 30:30Speaker 3: we can go and then get you a better price.
- 30:32Speaker 3: It is remarkable how much margin there is in these things.
- 30:35Speaker 3: And if a dealer desperately wants to get rid of
- 30:37Speaker 3: a car and they're willing to get it off their
- 30:39Speaker 3: floor and you're a willing participant in a trade or
- 30:43Speaker 3: a deal, you're then you're going to get yourself a bargain.
- 30:45Speaker 3: Definitely do not be paying retail at the moment.
- 30:47Speaker 1: No, now's a great time to buy a Raptor as well.
- 30:50Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah. It may have even been a Raptor, but
- 30:52Speaker 3: whatever it was, it was an expensive car.
- 30:54Speaker 1: How's your super duty? Yeah, it's good. I'm still just
- 30:57Speaker 1: sort of plodding along. At 45 k's? Yeah, it is
- 31:01Speaker 1: just so slow.
- 31:04Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 31:04Speaker 3: I just really am sort of getting over it. But yeah,
- 31:08Speaker 3: we're about to do a whole bunch of mods and
- 31:09Speaker 3: stuff to it. Oh, you are? So maybe I'll start
- 31:11Speaker 3: enjoying it a bit more once that happens.
- 31:12Speaker 1: Yeah, just do it.
- 31:14Speaker 3: I don't know. It looks great, but it's just... Come on, guys.
- 31:17Speaker 1: Yeah. I don't reckon they've sold that many of them,
- 31:19Speaker 1: have they?
- 31:19Speaker 3: I don't think so. I don't see a huge amount
- 31:21Speaker 3: on the road. Stick a V8 in it, guys. Just
- 31:24Speaker 3: get it over and done with.
- 31:25Speaker 1: Stick something in it. Is it too late to call
- 31:28Speaker 1: Trevor Long?
- 31:30Speaker 3: What time is it? Yeah, probably.
- 31:31Speaker 1: Yeah, let's do it. Hang on. I think it's going
- 31:38Speaker 1: through to his message bank.
- 31:40Speaker 3: I'll just.
- 31:42Speaker 4: Oh, Trevor, it's me. Paul's my name. I'm the president
- 31:47Speaker 4: of the Vacuum Cleaners Association. I'm so sorry, mate. I
- 31:52Speaker 4: just saw you on the Today Show and I just realised.
- 31:55Speaker 3: I.
- 31:55Speaker 4: Didn't realise how fucking homeless you were. You just look terrible, mate.
- 32:00Speaker 4: You're skinny and very proper homeless. I'm so sorry.
- 32:05Speaker 1: If you wanted to borrow some dollars, the.
- 32:09Speaker 4: The Royal Victorian Vacuum Cleaners Association is right. Keep up
- 32:14Speaker 4: the good work with your vacuum reviews. I fucking love
- 32:18Speaker 4: your work there, Trevor. I bloody love you, mate. You
- 32:21Speaker 4: stay strong. And maybe you can come to one of
- 32:25Speaker 4: our Royal Vacuum Cleaners Society meetings and, well, I'll suck
- 32:33Speaker 4: you off.
- 32:35Speaker 3: I'm sorry.
- 32:36Speaker 4: I didn't mean to say that. I'll just shit me pants.
- 32:40Speaker 4: What I mean to say is I'll give you a blowjob.
- 32:46Speaker 4: I mean, I didn't mean to say that, mate. I've
- 32:49Speaker 4: got the shakes a little bit nowadays. But anyway, come
- 32:52Speaker 4: down to the Vacuum Cleaner Society and we'll talk vacuum
- 32:56Speaker 4: cleaners and I'll give you a wristie in the sauna.
- 33:00Speaker 4: All right, mate. See you later.
- 33:03Speaker 1: I hope he.
- 33:06Speaker 1: Hope he has a great morning waking up to that. Yeah.
- 33:09Speaker 3: He wakes up with that today, doesn't he?
- 33:10Speaker 1: He wakes up with today, I believe. Who's hosting that
- 33:12Speaker 1: these days? Not Stefanovic.
- 33:14Speaker 3: Kyle Sandiland?
- 33:15Speaker 1: No, I don't think. No, he's got his own thing
- 33:17Speaker 1: going on. Yeah. I'm surprised they didn't ask Trevor to
- 33:19Speaker 1: do that. He's a bit of a legacy presenter from
- 33:21Speaker 1: that show. You know, surely he's been there for a while.
- 33:25Speaker 1: They would have asked him.
- 33:26Speaker 3: Yeah. That's it. I asked him to stop.
- 33:28Speaker 1: Yeah. This has been a good episode. Rate this one
- 33:34Speaker 1: five out of five.
- 33:35Speaker 3: Yeah. Five stars.
- 33:38Speaker 1: I'd even leave a nice review. Something like Gordy's a
- 33:41Speaker 1: tip rat. Hook into the shortbreads. There you go.
- 33:47Speaker 3: Tubs.
- 33:50Speaker 1: What's been your favorite in-flight meal this month?
- 33:55Speaker 3: Sorry. I've got a great story.
- 33:57Speaker 1: Oh, you sound like Trevor at the Vacuum Cleaner Society.
- 33:59Speaker 3: So I was flying to Auckland. Oh. And I went
- 34:02Speaker 3: via Sydney, so I'd be on the Dreamliner.
- 34:05Speaker 1: And I love that you said that casually, like, we
- 34:08Speaker 1: all fucking know. Oh, so we're not the Dreamliner?
- 34:10Speaker 3: Yeah, but when you travel.
- 34:10Speaker 1: Oh, just marveling the miracle afloat on the Dreamliner.
- 34:14Speaker 3: When you travel a lot, you know which plane to
- 34:16Speaker 3: be on.
- 34:16Speaker 1: Fucking hell, no one cares.
- 34:18Speaker 3: Anyway, so a few rows back from me was Alan Joyce.
- 34:21Speaker 1: Oh, I thought you were going to say Alan Jones.
- 34:22Speaker 3: Yeah, and so I tucked into some salmon as a starter. Okay. Okay.
- 34:28Speaker 1: He was a few rows back from you.
- 34:31Speaker 3: Yeah, that's it.
- 34:32Speaker 1: I mean, you know where you are with Claudius. There's
- 34:34Speaker 1: nothing in front of 1A. Old mate Marrick here with
- 34:37Speaker 1: his frequent flyers.
- 34:40Speaker 3: There's nothing in front of 1A except the pilot.
- 34:42Speaker 1: Are you in the chairman's lounge yet?
- 34:44Speaker 3: No comment. I don't comment on that stuff. Oh, yes,
- 34:47Speaker 3: you do. So anyway, he's a couple of rows behind me.
- 34:49Speaker 3: I tuck into the salmon. The next two days, I
- 34:53Speaker 3: have never shit so much in my life. Like, it was...
- 34:57Speaker 3: It was something else. Wow. Anyway, because that plane goes to...
- 35:00Speaker 3: I think that's a Neil Perry menu too. Because that
- 35:02Speaker 3: plane goes to New York. Yeah. There were a lot
- 35:04Speaker 3: of people on that plane that weren't saying nice things
- 35:07Speaker 3: about him. The only comfort I had that he was
- 35:10Speaker 3: on that plane was that I hope he had the salmon.
- 35:13Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 35:13Speaker 3: And midway to New York, he.
- 35:15Speaker 1: Would have gone, oh, oh, belly's just a little bit tingly.
- 35:19Speaker 1: Bit of a tingle in the anus. That's it. Hello there, Alan.
- 35:21Speaker 1: Would you like some drinks or some sweets? Thank you, darling,
- 35:25Speaker 1: but I've got a tingly bum hole. I mean, that's
- 35:28Speaker 1: what you do, isn't it? That's what you do on
- 35:31Speaker 1: a fucking long haul. You watch a crappy Adam Sandler movie,
- 35:34Speaker 1: take a creamy shit and just try and sleep. That's
- 35:37Speaker 1: my fucking routines. What a podcast.
- 35:39Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 35:40Speaker 1: It's been good. It's been good seeing you again. Yeah.
- 35:42Speaker 3: I know it's been a while. I know. But it's
- 35:44Speaker 3: just been fucking busy.
- 35:45Speaker 1: It's been a long time. I don't think there's anything
- 35:48Speaker 1: else that's really tickling my anus in the car scene.
- 35:53Speaker 1: There's nothing really on the horizon. When's your next trip?
- 35:56Speaker 1: When's your next travels?
- 35:57Speaker 3: Saturday. Saturday.
- 35:58Speaker 1: Ugh. God, you fly a lot.
- 35:59Speaker 3: New York.
- 36:00Speaker 1: You're going to New York, honey. Me and Alan are
- 36:03Speaker 1: going to New York. We're going to go see some
- 36:05Speaker 1: Barbra Streisand, maybe see some Madonna, drink some coffee. Anyway.
- 36:09Speaker 3: Anyway.
- 36:10Speaker 1: Let's end it.
- 36:11Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 36:11Speaker 1: Good to see you. Good to see you. Thanks, guys.
- 36:13Speaker 3: Finally.
- 36:13Speaker 1: Thanks, folks. Five stars. Rate, review, share it around. Let
- 36:19Speaker 1: us know any questions you've got. Oh, I don't want
- 36:22Speaker 1: to attack the questions. This has gone on long enough.
- 36:26Speaker 1: We have a few. Do you want to just skip them?
- 36:28Speaker 1: All right, all right. What have we got here? Okay,
- 36:32Speaker 1: here we go. This is a question that comes from Jerry. G'day, Jerry.
- 36:36Speaker 1: Thanks for your question, brother. Is it worth circling like
- 36:39Speaker 1: vultures on dying brands like Peugeot leaving Australia for a
- 36:43Speaker 1: good run-out deal?
- 36:44Speaker 3: Absolutely not.
- 36:45Speaker 1: Would you avoid them at all costs for future long...
- 36:50Speaker 1: I think he means longevity.
- 36:52Speaker 3: I'd avoid them even if they weren't going out of business. Fuck.
- 36:55Speaker 1: I'd imagine used models would depreciate like hell too.
- 36:59Speaker 3: Yeah, I cannot stand those French cars. I don't know
- 37:01Speaker 3: what it is with them.
- 37:02Speaker 1: I love a French car. I love a Renault.
- 37:05Speaker 3: What is the arrogance level of the French when you
- 37:08Speaker 3: sit in something like a Peugeot and you cannot see
- 37:12Speaker 3: the speedo because it was not designed for your height?
- 37:15Speaker 3: They've designed it for this narrow band of people. The
- 37:17Speaker 3: rest of you, well, fuck it, you can't see the speedo.
- 37:19Speaker 3: It's like, well, great design, guys. So no, I wouldn't
- 37:22Speaker 3: buy one, even if they were a good deal. Because
- 37:25Speaker 3: at the moment, their good deal price, you're going to
- 37:27Speaker 3: have so many other cars out there that are much better.
- 37:31Speaker 3: And also depreciation as well now when he's buying that stuff. Parts,
- 37:34Speaker 3: all that sort of stuff. It's going to be a
- 37:35Speaker 3: fucking nightmare.
- 37:37Speaker 1: What's this one? I think he wanted to know a
- 37:38Speaker 1: bit about the EV Boxster and EV Cayman.
- 37:42Speaker 3: I think they've delayed. that again.
- 37:44Speaker 1: We do see them. I saw like a little flashy
- 37:47Speaker 1: flash of one a couple of weeks ago.
- 37:49Speaker 3: Yeah, they have delayed that thing so many times because
- 37:52Speaker 3: I think they know that the Macan has been a
- 37:55Speaker 3: bit of a disaster in terms of sales. That will
- 37:58Speaker 3: do no better because no one is in the market
- 38:00Speaker 3: for a vehicle like that. So it'll be interesting to
- 38:03Speaker 3: see if they do get around to it. But, you know,
- 38:05Speaker 3: what'll happen, in a few days' time, Tesla's going to
- 38:08Speaker 3: be launching the Roadster. Oh, yeah. I mean, whatever they're
- 38:12Speaker 3: going to launch with, it will.
- 38:14Speaker 1: I'm hearing it's like, I don't know if it's a rumour.
- 38:16Speaker 1: You hear so many rumours. Yeah, about rocket thrusters and stuff.
- 38:20Speaker 3: So, I mean, how are you going to compete with that?
- 38:22Speaker 3: And then you've got a platform that isn't efficient. I
- 38:25Speaker 3: don't know. I just don't understand how they're going to
- 38:27Speaker 3: do it. But I haven't driven it yet, but the
- 38:29Speaker 3: Cayenne electric apparently is amazing. But again, expensive electric car
- 38:34Speaker 3: no one's buying.
- 38:35Speaker 1: No, absolutely. Spotted a new Subaru Forester. Have they been
- 38:39Speaker 1: pitching past from the Kia Tasman?
- 38:42Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a nasty looking thing.
- 38:44Speaker 1: What have we got? Phil Tate. G'day, Phil Tate. Thanks
- 38:46Speaker 1: for your love. Doug Wookie. What's Doug got to say?
- 38:52Speaker 1: I have a couple of different... There's a big question
- 38:57Speaker 1: here there, Dougie. I don't know if we can read
- 38:59Speaker 1: it all. Why do manufacturers insist on putting e-brakes in
- 39:04Speaker 1: that you can't release from the cabin? Also from outside
- 39:08Speaker 1: the cabin or from in the cabin?
- 39:10Speaker 3: But you can. That's the whole point of them.
- 39:12Speaker 1: I think he means in an emergency.
- 39:14Speaker 3: Yeah, or if the battery's flat or something like that.
- 39:17Speaker 1: Also being able to put in an automatic transmission in
- 39:20Speaker 1: neutral in an emergency situation. I work as an incident
- 39:23Speaker 1: responder on a toll road where we have vehicles that
- 39:28Speaker 1: decide to not... want to play anymore and just shut
- 39:32Speaker 1: down and it makes it more dangerous. I would be
- 39:34Speaker 1: interested in your thoughts.
- 39:36Speaker 3: A lot of cars now link the gearbox state to
- 39:40Speaker 3: the driver's door position. So what you'll find in a
- 39:44Speaker 3: lot of cars is if you're in drive and you
- 39:46Speaker 3: open the driver's door, it will sometimes just revert to park.
- 39:49Speaker 3: If you're in neutral, it won't hold it there. The Ranger,
- 39:52Speaker 3: for example, has an option where you do put it
- 39:54Speaker 3: in neutral, it will hold that gear if you press
- 39:56Speaker 3: a button, regardless of what you do with doors and stuff.
- 39:59Speaker 3: I think most cars have that functionality, but if you're
- 40:01Speaker 3: in a job like that where you're having to get
- 40:02Speaker 3: through multiple cars all the time, you're not going to
- 40:04Speaker 3: sit there going through a manual looking for how you
- 40:07Speaker 3: do this thing. And same with the emergency brake release.
- 40:09Speaker 3: If the battery's dead or something's wrong... it is very
- 40:13Speaker 3: difficult to actually release these things. And manufacturers use them
- 40:16Speaker 3: because all of this stuff is about liability. They had
- 40:18Speaker 3: a person die in the States when their Jeep rolled
- 40:20Speaker 3: into them. The park brake failed or something happened that
- 40:24Speaker 3: is now prevented by the fact that when the door
- 40:26Speaker 3: is open, it won't roll because it puts itself back
- 40:29Speaker 3: in park. And an e-brake is the same thing. If
- 40:32Speaker 3: you have a manually operated park brake, over time they
- 40:36Speaker 3: start getting looser you get to the point where a
- 40:38Speaker 3: lot of people are just lazy and won't fix them
- 40:40Speaker 3: you have a car roll down and hurt someone any
- 40:43Speaker 3: brake kind of fixes that because you can just have
- 40:44Speaker 3: it activate as soon as the door opens and but
- 40:47Speaker 3: yeah you get the annoying side effect of not being
- 40:49Speaker 3: able to release.
- 40:49Speaker 1: It have you ever done the whole uh seeing what
- 40:52Speaker 1: happens when you like roll a car or drive a
- 40:54Speaker 1: car and then you push the instead of the handbrake
- 40:57Speaker 1: the little yes it just slowly stops right yeah it It's.
- 41:01Speaker 3: Not super slow, but it's not super aggressive.
- 41:03Speaker 1: No, it's not.
- 41:04Speaker 3: It's basically engaging ABS effectively.
- 41:09Speaker 1: Anyway, that's your questions. I can't be bothered going through
- 41:11Speaker 1: any more, frankly. Yeah, fair enough. Rate, review, share, love you, bye.
- 41:14Speaker 1: Sponsorship and advertising packages now open.
