- 4:21Speaker 3: you for this day, for this is the day that
- 4:24Speaker 3: you have made, and I will rejoice forever. and be
- 4:28Speaker 3: glad in it. Amen. And our quote for this week
- 4:33Speaker 3: comes from the legendary Billy Graham. The greatest legacy you
- 4:40Speaker 3: can pass on to your children and grandchildren is not
- 4:45Speaker 3: your money or other material things you have accumulated in life.
- 4:51Speaker 3: The greatest legacy you can pass on to them is
- 4:56Speaker 3: the legacy of of your character and your faith. Billy Graham.
- 5:06Speaker 3: Tonight's theme scripture is Proverbs 13 and 22. A good
- 5:13Speaker 3: man leaves an inheritance to his children's children. A legacy
- 5:21Speaker 3: is not merely what you leave behind. It is what
- 5:25Speaker 3: you leave in others. As believers, our greatest legacy in
- 5:31Speaker 3: life is the life that points others to Jesus Christ.
- 5:38Speaker 3: So once again, I welcome you to tonight's podcast. I
- 5:43Speaker 3: am so glad you're listening. Our topic touches every person
- 5:49Speaker 3: regardless of age, background, family history, or current season in life. Tonight,
- 5:58Speaker 3: we're talking about building a godly legacy. When people hear
- 6:04Speaker 3: the word legacy, they often think about money, property, accomplishments, awards, businesses, books,
- 6:14Speaker 3: or buildings. They think about what will remain after they're gone.
- 6:21Speaker 3: But biblical legacy goes much deeper than than just possessions
- 6:28Speaker 3: or public recognition. A legacy is the spiritual, moral, and
- 6:36Speaker 3: relational influence we leave in the lives of others. It
- 6:41Speaker 3: is the faith we model, the wisdom we share, the
- 6:46Speaker 3: character we demonstrate, and the love we give. It is
- 6:52Speaker 3: what continues to speak through our lives, even after we're
- 6:58Speaker 3: no longer present. Proverbs 13 and 22 says, A good
- 7:05Speaker 3: man leaves an inheritance to his children's children. The inheritance
- 7:11Speaker 3: may include material provision, but it also includes values, faith, wisdom, discipline, compassion,
- 7:24Speaker 3: and most of all, a relationship with God. Tonight, we
- 7:30Speaker 3: explore what it means to build a godly legacy. We'll
- 7:35Speaker 3: look at scripture, consider biblical examples, reflect on the legacy
- 7:43Speaker 3: we're building, and identify practical steps we can start taking today.
- 7:56Speaker 3: Let's us begin with a question. If your family, friends, co-workers,
- 8:03Speaker 3: church community, or community had to describe your life using
- 8:13Speaker 3: only three words 50 years from now, what would you
- 8:17Speaker 3: hope those words would be? Would they say faithful, loving, genuine, prayerful, generous, wise, courageous, humble,
- 8:33Speaker 3: or available? Or would they describe you mainly by your position,
- 8:41Speaker 3: your income, or accomplishments? There is nothing wrong with working hard,
- 8:48Speaker 3: pursuing excellence, building a career, or providing for your families.
- 8:54Speaker 3: These things can be honorable and useful, but they are
- 8:59Speaker 3: not the foundation of a godly legacy. The choices we
- 9:05Speaker 3: make today become the stories others tell tomorrow. The way
- 9:11Speaker 3: we treat people becomes part of our legacy. So does
- 9:17Speaker 3: the way we respond to difficulties, handle money, manage conflict,
- 9:26Speaker 3: face success and failure, resist temptation, and carry responsibility. Our
- 9:34Speaker 3: legacy is being built right now. Not someday, not when
- 9:41Speaker 3: we retire, when we become famous, or finally have more time.
- 9:48Speaker 3: It's being built through ordinary decisions made on ordinary days.
- 9:55Speaker 3: Every conversation matters. Every act of kindness matters. Every prayer matters.
- 10:04Speaker 3: Every moment of integrity matters. Whenever we choose obedience over convenience,
- 10:12Speaker 3: we are building something that might outlive us. A godly
- 10:19Speaker 3: legacy is the spiritual, moral, and relational inheritance we leave
- 10:25Speaker 3: to future generations and to everyone influenced by our lives.
- 10:32Speaker 3: It includes faith, character, wisdom, value, service, influence, love, integrity, compassion,
- 10:43Speaker 3: and obedience to God. Money eventually disappears. Buildings eventually crumble,
- 10:51Speaker 3: titles eventually fade, and awards lose their shine. But lives
- 10:57Speaker 3: changed through Christ can have an internal impact. Psalm 78
- 11:03Speaker 3: and 4 says, You will not hide them from their children,
- 11:09Speaker 3: telling to the generations to come the praises of the
- 11:13Speaker 3: Lord and His strength and His wonderful work that he
- 11:18Speaker 3: has done. This verse reveals an important responsibility. One generation
- 11:25Speaker 3: is called to tell the next about God's faithfulness. We
- 11:31Speaker 3: are not meant to keep God's goodness to ourselves. We
- 11:36Speaker 3: are meant to testify, to teach, to model, and pass
- 11:41Speaker 3: on what we have learned about him. A godly legacy
- 11:46Speaker 3: It's not created by accident. It is built intentionally. You
- 11:52Speaker 3: may not have children, but you still have influence. You
- 11:56Speaker 3: may not have grandchildren, but you can still shape future generations.
- 12:03Speaker 3: You may not lead a large organization or preach from
- 12:07Speaker 3: a pulpit, but your faithfulness in daily life can encourage
- 12:12Speaker 3: someone else to follow Christ. Legacy is not limited to parents.
- 12:20Speaker 3: It belongs to every believer. Our culture often encourages people
- 12:30Speaker 3: to build a legacy around achievement. We are told to
- 12:35Speaker 3: become successful, influential, wealthy, admired, and remembered. There's nothing inherently
- 12:44Speaker 3: wrong with this success. The question is, what kind of
- 12:48Speaker 3: success are we pursuing? And what is it producing in us?
- 12:54Speaker 3: Jesus asked in Mark 8 and 36, For what will
- 13:00Speaker 3: it profit a man if he gains the whole world
- 13:05Speaker 3: and loses his soul? That question challenges our priorities. What
- 13:12Speaker 3: good is it to gain recognition but lose our family?
- 13:17Speaker 3: What good is it to build wealth but neglect our character?
- 13:22Speaker 3: What good is it to become admired publicly while living
- 13:27Speaker 3: dishonestly privately? What good is it to gain influence but
- 13:34Speaker 3: fail to point people towards God? I'm reminded of a story.
- 13:43Speaker 3: A man went to his wife's funeral. And people were
- 13:50Speaker 3: standing up saying all good things about her. She was
- 13:58Speaker 3: this and she was that. And they had closed the casket,
- 14:04Speaker 3: but the man asked the undertaker if he could just
- 14:09Speaker 3: look one more time. And The undertaker said, well, we've
- 14:17Speaker 3: closed the casket. Sir, what do you want to look for?
- 14:21Speaker 3: And he says, after hearing all of these wonderful things
- 14:25Speaker 3: about my wife, I just want to check and make
- 14:28Speaker 3: sure it's my wife in that casket. So her people
- 14:35Speaker 3: that knew her on the outside were saying wonderful things
- 14:39Speaker 3: about her, but her family didn't. Never knew that side
- 14:43Speaker 3: of her. Worldly Success asks, How much did I gain?
- 14:51Speaker 3: Eternal Impact asks, Whom did I help? Worldly Success asks,
- 14:57Speaker 3: How many people know my name? Eternal Impact says, How
- 15:03Speaker 3: many people know Jesus because of my life? Worldly Success asks,
- 15:10Speaker 3: What did I accomplish? Eternal Impact asks, What did God
- 15:16Speaker 3: accomplish through me? This does not mean we should avoid
- 15:21Speaker 3: excellence or responsibility. It means we must surrender our goals
- 15:27Speaker 3: to God and allow Him to define success. Legacy begins
- 15:33Speaker 3: with faith. Our first biblical principle is simple. Legacy begins
- 15:40Speaker 3: with faith. Hebrews 11 and 14 says that Abel, though
- 15:46Speaker 3: he is dead, still speaks to his faith. Think about
- 15:52Speaker 3: Abel's life. It continues to communicate something because of the
- 15:58Speaker 3: way he trusted God. Faith leaves footprints. Your faith influences
- 16:05Speaker 3: your children, your grandchildren, your friends, your church, your workplace,
- 16:10Speaker 3: and your community. People may forget your accomplishments, but they
- 16:15Speaker 3: will remember your faith. They will remember whether you prayed,
- 16:20Speaker 3: whether you trusted God during hardships, and whether you remained
- 16:25Speaker 3: faithful when life became difficult. They will remember whether your
- 16:30Speaker 3: faith was something you merely talked about or something you
- 16:35Speaker 3: actually lived. A godly legacy begins with a personal relationship
- 16:42Speaker 3: with God. We cannot pass on what we do not possess.
- 16:48Speaker 3: We cannot teach others to trust God if we refuse
- 16:52Speaker 3: to trust Him ourselves. We cannot model prayer if prayer
- 16:58Speaker 3: is absent from our lives. And we cannot encourage obedience
- 17:03Speaker 3: if we continually compromise. So the first question of legacy
- 17:10Speaker 3: is not what I am leaving behind. It's am I
- 17:14Speaker 3: walking faithfully with God today? Your legacy begins in your
- 17:20Speaker 3: private life before it becomes visible in your public life.
- 17:25Speaker 3: It begins in your prayer closet, in your decisions, when
- 17:30Speaker 3: no one is watching. It's your response to temptation or
- 17:35Speaker 3: your willingness to repent and your commitment to obey God's word.
- 17:41Speaker 3: Faith is not simply inherited through family tradition. It's demonstrated
- 17:48Speaker 3: through a life surrendered to God. Legacy is built daily.
- 17:56Speaker 3: Our second principle is this. Legacy is built daily. Deuteronomy
- 18:04Speaker 3: 6 says, 6-7 says, In these words which I command
- 18:11Speaker 3: you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach
- 18:15Speaker 3: them diligently to your children and shall talk of them
- 18:20Speaker 3: when you sit in your house, when you walk by
- 18:24Speaker 3: the way, when you lay down, and when you rise up.
- 18:28Speaker 3: Notice the rhythm. When you sit, when you walk, when
- 18:33Speaker 3: you lay down, and when you rise up. God's word
- 18:38Speaker 3: was not meant to be limited to a weekly religious gathering.
- 18:43Speaker 3: It was meant to become part of your everyday life.
- 18:48Speaker 3: That is where legacy is formed. In daily prayer, in obedience, integrity, worship, conversations,
- 18:58Speaker 3: and your choices, little habits become lifelong influence. A child
- 19:05Speaker 3: may not remember every sermon, but they remember seeing a
- 19:10Speaker 3: parent pray. A young person may not remember every church lesson,
- 19:16Speaker 3: but they remember how an older believer treated people. They
- 19:22Speaker 3: may not remember every Bible verse you quoted, but they
- 19:27Speaker 3: may remember the way you were present during a painful season.
- 19:33Speaker 3: Legacy is built in the small moments when you apologize,
- 19:38Speaker 3: keep your word, refuse to gossip, forgive, serve without recognition,
- 19:46Speaker 3: choose truth over convenience. And make time for people. It
- 19:53Speaker 3: is built when you demonstrate that God is not merely
- 19:57Speaker 3: part of your Sunday routine, but the center of your
- 20:01Speaker 3: entire life. Our third principle is this. Legacy requires sacrifice.
- 20:09Speaker 3: In John 12 and 24, Jesus said, A lesser grain
- 20:14Speaker 3: of wheat falls in the ground and dies. It remains alone,
- 20:20Speaker 3: but if it dies, it produces much grain. Jesus was
- 20:26Speaker 3: speaking about his own death and resurrection, but the principle
- 20:33Speaker 3: also teaches us something about lasting influence. Fruitfulness often requires surrender.
- 20:42Speaker 3: A seed must be buried before it can grow. In
- 20:47Speaker 3: the same way, building a godly legacy may require us
- 20:52Speaker 3: to surrender comfort, recognition, time, money, pride, and personal preferences.
- 21:01Speaker 3: Sometimes legacy means serving without recognition. Sometimes it means giving
- 21:09Speaker 3: genuinely when no one knows, forgiving deeply, remaining faithful during suffering,
- 21:18Speaker 3: choosing family over career advancements, or saying no to opportunities
- 21:25Speaker 3: that would damage our character. It might mean investing in
- 21:30Speaker 3: someone who cannot repay us or being patient with people
- 21:35Speaker 3: who who are still growing. Jesus demonstrated that lasting impact
- 21:43Speaker 3: requires sacrifice. He gave his life so that others could
- 21:49Speaker 3: receive eternal life. The cross reminds us that the greatest
- 21:54Speaker 3: legacy is not built through self-promotion, it's built through self-giving love.
- 22:01Speaker 3: So ask yourself one tonight, What am I willing to
- 22:05Speaker 3: surrender so someone else can grow? What comfort can I
- 22:12Speaker 3: give up so another person can be strengthened? What time
- 22:17Speaker 3: or resources can I invest in someone who needs guidance?
- 22:24Speaker 3: Sacrifice does not mean neglecting wisdom or living without boundaries.
- 22:32Speaker 3: It means allowing love and obedience to guide our choices.
- 22:38Speaker 3: Our fourth principle is this. Legacy multiplies through discipleship. 2
- 22:45Speaker 3: Timothy 2 and 2 says, And the things that you
- 22:50Speaker 3: have heard from me, among many witnesses, commit these to
- 22:58Speaker 3: faithful men who will be able to teach others also.
- 23:03Speaker 3: This verse describes multiplication. Paul taught Timothy. Timothy taught faithful people.
- 23:10Speaker 3: Those faithful people taught others. That is legacy. Paul did
- 23:17Speaker 3: not simply gather information. He invested in people. He understood
- 23:24Speaker 3: that the gospel could continue through relationships, teaching, example, and discipleship.
- 23:33Speaker 3: Discipleship is more than giving someone instructions. It's walking with
- 23:38Speaker 3: people as they learn to follow Jesus. It includes encouragement, correction, patience, accountability, prayer,
- 23:51Speaker 3: and example. You do not have to be perfect to
- 23:56Speaker 3: disciple someone. You need to be honest, teachable, and willing
- 24:02Speaker 3: to share what God is teaching you. We can disciple
- 24:07Speaker 3: through Bible study, prayer, mentoring, encouragement, hospitality, service, listening, sharing
- 24:17Speaker 3: your testimony, helping someone else develop spiritual habits, and walking
- 24:24Speaker 3: with someone through difficulty. Ask yourself, who am I helping grow?
- 24:31Speaker 3: Who can call me when they need prayer? Who am
- 24:36Speaker 3: I encouraging to use their gifts? Who am I preparing
- 24:43Speaker 3: to lead? Who will continue the work after me? A
- 24:49Speaker 3: legacy never stops with us. A legacy that stops with
- 24:56Speaker 3: us is incomplete. Godly influence is meant to multiply. Faith
- 25:04Speaker 3: and obedience. Let's look at several examples beginning with Abraham.
- 25:11Speaker 3: Genesis 18 and 19 says, For I have known him
- 25:16Speaker 3: in order that he may command his children in his
- 25:20Speaker 3: household after him that they keep the way of the
- 25:23Speaker 3: Lord to do righteousness and justice. God trusted Abraham to
- 25:30Speaker 3: lead his household. Abraham was by no means perfect. He
- 25:36Speaker 3: made mistakes, experienced fear and uncertainty, yet he let his
- 25:46Speaker 3: life demonstrate faith and obedience. His legacy was not based
- 25:52Speaker 3: on flawless performance. It was based on a willingness to
- 25:57Speaker 3: trust God and follow Him. Abraham teaches us, That a
- 26:02Speaker 3: godly legacy is built when we make faith visible in
- 26:07Speaker 3: our homes and relationships. Ruth is another powerful example. Ruth
- 26:13Speaker 3: chooses loyalty when leaving would have been easier. She remained
- 26:19Speaker 3: with Naomi and embraced Naomi's people and God. Her faithfulness
- 26:26Speaker 3: affects generations. Ruth became the great-grandmother of of King David
- 26:33Speaker 3: and part of the family line through which Jesus Christ came.
- 26:38Speaker 3: Ruth teaches that ordinary faithfulness can have extraordinary consequences. She
- 26:47Speaker 3: probably could not see the full impact of her decisions.
- 26:52Speaker 3: She simply chose loyalty, humility, and obedience. You may not
- 26:59Speaker 3: see everything your faithfulness is producing either. Keep going. Your
- 27:07Speaker 3: obedience may be influencing people you have never met. David
- 27:14Speaker 3: had a passion for God. David was deeply imperfect. He
- 27:20Speaker 3: made serious mistakes and experienced painful consequences. Yet scripture describes
- 27:28Speaker 3: him as a man after God's own heart. David's worship
- 27:34Speaker 3: continues to inspire believers today. His Psalms give language to joy, grief, repentance, fear, hope,
- 27:45Speaker 3: and trust. David teaches us that a godly legacy does
- 27:50Speaker 3: not require perfection. It requires a heart that returns to God.
- 27:59Speaker 3: Paul planted churches across the Roman Empire and trusted deeply
- 28:06Speaker 3: in leaders. His letters continue to transform lives today. His
- 28:15Speaker 3: legacy was built through preaching, teaching, suffering, mentoring, and perseverance.
- 28:23Speaker 3: He did not merely gather followers, he developed leaders. Paul
- 28:28Speaker 3: encouraged Timothy, Jesus Christ, his sacrificial love. Finally, we look
- 28:36Speaker 3: to Jesus. Jesus is the greatest example of legacy. He
- 28:42Speaker 3: lived with purpose, served others through truth, welcomed the overlooked,
- 28:49Speaker 3: confronted hypocrisy, forgave sinners, and gave his life so humanity
- 28:56Speaker 3: could receive eternal life. His legacy continues through every believer.
- 29:04Speaker 3: Jesus did not build his legacy through wealth, political power,
- 29:10Speaker 3: or worldly status. He built it through love, truth, obedience, sacrifice,
- 29:21Speaker 3: and resurrection. If we want to build a godly legacy
- 29:25Speaker 3: through We must look to Jesus. He is not the
- 29:31Speaker 3: only one we follow. He is the one who makes
- 29:37Speaker 3: a godly legacy possible. Character is not formed in one
- 29:47Speaker 3: dramatic moment. It's formed through repeated choices. Every time you
- 29:52Speaker 3: choose honesty, humility, patience, purity, or forgiveness... your character grows.
- 30:02Speaker 3: And every time you compromise, you are shaping your character too.
- 30:07Speaker 3: That's why daily obedience matters. People may not remember every
- 30:12Speaker 3: word we've said, but they remember whether our lives were trustworthy.
- 30:18Speaker 3: Our godly legacy is not simply a reputation. Reputation is
- 30:24Speaker 3: what people think about us. Character is who we truly
- 30:29Speaker 3: are before God. Another essential part of legacy is love.
- 30:35Speaker 3: 1 Corinthians 13 reminds us that love is patient, kind, humble,
- 30:43Speaker 3: and adoring. A person may forget the details of a conversation,
- 30:48Speaker 3: but they remember how that conversation made them feel. Did
- 30:54Speaker 3: they feel seen, valued, safe, respected, and encouraged? Did they
- 31:00Speaker 3: experience the love of Christ in you? Love does not
- 31:04Speaker 3: mean avoiding truth. Jesus was full of grace and truth.
- 31:09Speaker 3: Love may require correction, boundaries, or difficult conversation, but biblical
- 31:17Speaker 3: love always seeks the good of the other person. A
- 31:23Speaker 3: godly legacy is built when people encounter the character of
- 31:29Speaker 3: Christ through our relationship. This includes the way we treat
- 31:33Speaker 3: our spouses, our children, our parents, our friends, neighbors, coworkers,
- 31:40Speaker 3: church members, and even strangers. Love is not merely an emotion.
- 31:46Speaker 3: It's a decision to seek another person's good. It is
- 31:51Speaker 3: shown through time, attention, patience, generosity, forgiveness, and presence. If
- 32:00Speaker 3: you want to build a godly legacy, love people intentionally.
- 32:06Speaker 3: Do not assume they know you love them. Tell them.
- 32:10Speaker 3: Show them. Make time for them. Pray for them. Encourage them.
- 32:16Speaker 3: Correct them with humility. Celebrate their growth and stand with
- 32:22Speaker 3: them indifficultly. Now, I want to invite you to a
- 32:27Speaker 3: time A personal reflection. What legacy am I building today?
- 32:37Speaker 3: What values am I passing to others? If my life
- 32:42Speaker 3: ended today, what would people remember most? Am I investing
- 32:50Speaker 3: more in temporary success or eternal impact? Who am I mentoring?
- 32:57Speaker 3: Who has mentioned me? What changes should I begin making today?
- 33:05Speaker 3: Take a moment to think about people who have influenced
- 33:09Speaker 3: your faith, who prayed for you, who encouraged you, who
- 33:14Speaker 3: corrected you, who believed in you, who modeled faithfulness, who
- 33:20Speaker 3: helped you see Jesus more clearly. Thank God for these people.
