- 0:00Medical Uh just not you know, no, nothing new coming out of the
- 0:06Butler game. Uh, in terms of the people that were available there,
- 0:12Uh typical uh you know, uh bruises and and Nick's uh coming out of
- 0:21a big East game. But uh, otherwise nothing new there, you know.
- 0:28And then a relative to Donovan, you know, this was obviously uh
- 0:34you know, the initial diagnosis was, you know, three to four week
- 0:39injury with with Donovan. Obviously we'll we'll, we'll, we'll we'll hit week
- 0:46three tomorrow and obviously that's in the hands of uh, of of our medical
- 0:54team and uh obviously Donson's uh you know, recovery that way. But uh,
- 1:02now don't don't do not look for him, uh tomorrow, at least
- 1:11on the court. He'll he'll be obviously it's just really really large man.
- 1:15Uh, but he'll be on the bench. Yeah, you open it up.
- 1:25I don't see any hands raised, but I'm sure you guys have a
- 1:26question, Devin Dan Tristan struggled a little bit recently shooting the ball. What
- 1:38can you do to get him going? Yeah, I just think yeah,
- 1:47this Uh, you know, Tristan does a lot. Uh, it does
- 1:53a lot for us. He's done a lot for us. He does a
- 1:55lot for us. I think, uh, uh, you know what when
- 2:00he's I think obviously the emergence of you know, Steph being able to you
- 2:07know create more uh for the team offensively, you will get Tristan hopefully better
- 2:14opportunities. You know, Tristan and you know kind of just kind of get
- 2:23lost in the offense more. He takes a lot upon himself. Uh.
- 2:29His willingness to take the ball and make the plays is Uh, there's something
- 2:34that's obviously done, you know, create a lot of success for us.
- 2:40We have to do a better job screening for him. We've got to create
- 2:45better opportunities for him, you know. And then I think he's gonna also
- 2:51try to you know, kind of get lost in the offense a little bit
- 2:53more and you know, use screens you know, more often when he's not
- 3:01on ball and transition you know, kind of maybe just find ways to score
- 3:09and be efficient offensively that aren't related to you know, just creating for himself,
- 3:19you know, because there's a lot more holding, there's a lot more
- 3:22grabbing, you know, Big East Conference games, like I've said a million
- 3:27times, you know, they're very different than what non conference games look like,
- 3:32and what NCAA tournament games look like. So both for US and you
- 3:40know, a lot for us, but also for other teams. Thanks got
- 3:49it, Good to day next. Hey, hey man, I just want
- 3:53to ask you about how do I know? And sot to ask you about
- 3:58that? He don't right, hopefully won't get mad at me for this question.
- 4:02So I'm not I'm not trying to make a Ryan Gome say a thing
- 4:05here or anything like that. But what do you see from what have you
- 4:11seen from Desmond Cloude this year? Seems like he's obviously a much bigger rule
- 4:15of him last year. And was he a guy that you guys you know,
- 4:17looked at him under a fringe trail a few years ago? Yeah,
- 4:23you know he. I think what you just try to do, Dave and
- 4:28and uh you know and and and full transparency is you know it was uh
- 4:33we watched him a lot with Alex and you know we uh yeah, it
- 4:42was. You see his talent, you see the physicality, you see that
- 4:46that that that big you know, that big wing guard. And you know,
- 4:51I think, uh, if I'm not mistaken, or maybe I am,
- 4:55and I'm gonna sound like a bozo, but I think we you know,
- 4:59we had to commit from you know, from Corey Floyd, and I
- 5:04think we kind of looked at I think what we always look at in you
- 5:10know, in recruiting and building a culture is that you know, we don't
- 5:15you know, mislead recruits or recruit the same type of players that you know
- 5:23in terms of uh skill set. So you know, I think we you
- 5:27know, we we looked at Corey at the time at the time as like,
- 5:30you know, that that type of player that we kind of already committed
- 5:35to in the program. And and uh, I think we you know,
- 5:42we we believed in him. Obviously, you know, things don't always work
- 5:45out. You know, Corey's not with us, and and and Dazz is
- 5:50playing well at Xavier, so yeah, he's he heard us a lot last
- 6:00year where we played them. He played really well. Uh he's a tremendous
- 6:04player with a great future. And you know, you're not none of us,
- 6:14you know, none of us. Uh got them all right. I
- 6:21thought our intentions were good. So we had the right intentions, but gotcha,
- 6:29thank you, Uh got to Roger than Joe and not. Its stuff
- 6:36is back and it seems to be feeling good and everything and confident. What
- 6:41can we expect to see from them? What are you seeing in practice that
- 6:45you think is gonna translate into the game pretty soon? Yeah, I just
- 6:51but my biggest you know that you're it's probably the biggest fear because you know,
- 7:00when you go back and and we watched the film across the board,
- 7:08you know, the way we grade out performances is you know, it's a
- 7:14lot different, you know, from a coaching perspective because just there's just you
- 7:21know, there there's execution issues for all of our players, particularly the particularly
- 7:28the younger ones that we may get away with, you know in a game
- 7:31where you know, we go under a screen and scouting report that we should
- 7:35have went got over on versus shooter, you know, or we you know,
- 7:41we're not in the right spots. So I think the biggest challenge with
- 7:44Steph is is, uh, you know, he's had back to back like
- 7:47really I think you know, I think he's really helped us, and he's
- 7:51had you know a couple of pretty good games. But you know, we've
- 7:56got to keep them humble and keeping them kind of seeing the mistakes that he's
- 8:01making while keeping them confident so that he doesn't start to think that this is
- 8:05easy because it's really really hard to play freshman in college basketball today with with
- 8:13the with the amount of old you know, with older players still the COVID
- 8:16players with that extra year, and just the overall age of players in the
- 8:20Big East right now is it's pretty astounding. So our job right now,
- 8:28he's a he's a great kid. He uh he Our defense is is a
- 8:33disaster right now. So you know, we need him to help us at
- 8:37that end. We need him to help us on the backboard where we haven't
- 8:39been the same team as last year that way. Uh. And then we
- 8:43need him to help create shots, you know, the way that Adama did
- 8:48for us last year, the way that andre Andre Jackson did for us last
- 8:54year. You know, we lost some great shot creators. Joey from last
- 8:58year's team. Uh. Dan uh Alex said after the Butler game that him
- 9:16and Samson commit the stupidest fouls. How do you sort of correct that and
- 9:22fix that and and sort of get them better at that because you really need
- 9:24those guys. Yeah, I mean you you know, you you watch the
- 9:28film, Uh, you know, you coach the heck out of him in
- 9:31practice. I think we we made I made the point to the group that
- 9:39it's not it's not a sustainable way to win for us. The lineups that
- 9:43we've been fortunate to win games against Saint John's and and and Butler, and
- 9:50the quality that those two teams bring to the court. Well, while missing
- 9:54Donovan and having some just crazy lineups on the court. We lost too many
- 10:00players from last year's team. I mean, for for Alex and Sampson to
- 10:05commit brutal fouls, it it's crazy to think about the position we're in,
- 10:13considering the fact that they've been in foul trouble. But you lose Jordan's and
- 10:16and you lose Jordan, Andre Adama, Nahem Joey, basically Donovan. I
- 10:26mean, Donovan's barely played in the Big East to play a little bit of
- 10:28Seaton Hall game. But uh, and for the most part, he probably
- 10:33hasn't been himself since the start of the year. But uh, and then
- 10:35we've only brought in one one transfer player, so you know, we're we're
- 10:41trying to do this, and and the margin for error is very thin.
- 10:48It's thin with those guys on the court, and it's not sustainable if they're
- 10:52not on the court. Old Spice is the greatest smell in the NFL.
- 11:03H m hm. I guess along the same lines, how much does that
- 11:13test you you as a coach? I guess to manage that with those guys
- 11:16on the bench, all the different lineups that you're throwing out, how how
- 11:20tough is that on you? And and how much different is that to prepare
- 11:22for a game? Yeah, listen, you're you're always dealing with decisions.
- 11:31It becomes more challenging. You know, It's just it's it's just, it's
- 11:41everything is more challenging. But you know, I got, uh, you
- 11:45know, I think an incredible coaching staff, and I think that we uh,
- 11:50we always got a culture that's that's real. You know, we've got
- 11:54a real culture and and and a real belief in us coming off the championship
- 12:00where it's in our bones that we believe we're supposed to win. So those
- 12:05are a couple of things that we have going for us. But yeah,
- 12:07I mean, like those guys get in foul trouble and no, Donovan right
- 12:11now is you know, we're to be where we're at record wise, and
- 12:18to be where we're at in terms of our overall resume. You know,
- 12:22at this point, losing what we've lost and Donovan either being out or or
- 12:28not being himself physically since the start. You know, we just got to
- 12:33kind of, you know, just keep grinding out games. However, we
- 12:39got to do it. Thank you, you got it, Gavin. Did
- 12:48you have one last one or yeah, I've got one. Well, I
- 12:50guess the first. Your impressions of Xavier. We haven't really talked about them
- 12:54yet. Yeah. The physicality, Yeah, the physicality and rebounding, you
- 13:03know it it plays in Big East games. You could see there. You
- 13:07know, the improvement that you know is gonna happen with Sean he's he's one
- 13:11of the best coaches in the country. And then you know, the physicality,
- 13:16the the way they guard, the rebounding, you know, the way
- 13:22that they get through screens in a real physical way. It's just it.
- 13:26It plays, you know, probably you know their improvement plus how well that
- 13:31plays in Big East conference games as opposed to maybe some non conference games or
- 13:37what have you. Uh, you know, in any environment that you get
- 13:41there at Davier, it's just it's just tough a place to play as you're
- 13:46going to play, uh, you know throughout the season. You know,
- 13:52it's probably one of the top properly one of the top ten hardest places to
- 13:54go, you know, get a win, uh, you know when when
- 13:58when the crowd is into it and just one of the quick one. You've
- 14:03talked about your championship DNA. How does that help you, uh, your
- 14:07team delivering big moments and win games. I think we stay calmer. You
- 14:13know you you see you know you you Obviously the camera likes to show,
- 14:20you know, the camera obviously shows my reaction to a call or or you
- 14:28know, my excitement passion when somebody makes a big play or what have you.
- 14:33But they're also too is you know, in in huddles or in or
- 14:37in offensive calls or in critical moments. We we do uh, you know,
- 14:41we show the composure and the confidence of a program that just you know,
- 14:50accomplished the biggest thing in the sport and and takes the court, uh
- 14:54with that type of self belief, you know from the coaches, you know,
- 15:00through everyone associated with the program. There's a belief. Uh, we
- 15:03have a belief system that shared. And so yeah, I mean, I
- 15:11mean I wish they would show the other coach standing at the exit mid court
- 15:18out of the box as much as they show me. You making funny goofy
- 15:22faces, or showing intensity
