- 0:57Speaker 1: Jeff Warren. Here, my good buddy Len Hunt sick. How
- 1:00Speaker 1: you doing, my friend?
- 1:02Speaker 2: I'm doing well. I hope everybody's having a good week
- 1:04Speaker 2: out there.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:04Speaker 3: Are you?
- 1:05Speaker 2: Are you ready for the snow?
- 1:06Speaker 1: Uh? Here? Okay, here's the thing. Okay. I was listening
- 1:10Speaker 1: to one Glenn Hurricane Schwartz, who came over my TikTok
- 1:14Speaker 1: feed and he said, we need to calm things down
- 1:17Speaker 1: a little bit. And I knowing, well, I don't really
- 1:20Speaker 1: know Hurricane Schwartz, but you know, I feel like I've
- 1:22Speaker 1: known him for years. I'm gonna take his advice and
- 1:25Speaker 1: I'm gonna keep things calm. I'm not gonna get crazy.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Do I hope that the the the state of Pennsylvania,
- 1:32Speaker 1: the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania because of everybody staying in on
- 1:35Speaker 1: Sunday smells like French toast. Yes, I do. So I'm
- 1:39Speaker 1: looking forward to it.
- 1:41Speaker 2: I'm gonna I'm gonna go, uh because I have to
- 1:44Speaker 2: work tomorrow, but Friday is my first of my days off,
- 1:47Speaker 2: and I'm gonna go to the store in the afternoon.
- 1:51Speaker 2: I'm not going to go at night, but milk and bread.
- 1:54Speaker 2: We're gonna see how that goes, Yes, to see if
- 1:56Speaker 2: I can get in and out without getting into a fistfight.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Be honest. I went to the grocery store. I always
- 2:02Speaker 1: go halfway through the week to get certain like essential
- 2:04Speaker 1: stuff for the twins, and there were a ton of
- 2:07Speaker 1: people today. I went over my lunch break around like
- 2:10Speaker 1: twelve o'clock and I was like, oh my gosh, there's
- 2:12Speaker 1: a lot of people here. People getting right.
- 2:14Speaker 2: I think the panic is starting and it's only going
- 2:16Speaker 2: to get worse.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Yeah, I love it. I love human beings at times.
- 2:20Speaker 1: I really I know you don't.
- 2:23Speaker 2: That makes one of us.
- 2:25Speaker 1: All Right, Well, folks, we got a great show coming
- 2:27Speaker 1: your way. Got some Phillies talk Major League baseball talk
- 2:31Speaker 1: as well. We're also going to dive into the Philadelphia
- 2:33Speaker 1: seventy six ers and specifically talk about Jared McCain where
- 2:36Speaker 1: his career, his very short career has gone. Seems like
- 2:39Speaker 1: it has kind of fizzled out here at this point
- 2:42Speaker 1: in the twenty twenty five twenty twenty six six ers season.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Now what we're thrown down on the table this week,
- 2:46Speaker 1: We've got eggcrats from the Eagles over at SI's going
- 2:50Speaker 1: to join us for a post mortem on the Eagles
- 2:54Speaker 1: offensive season, specifically diving into the offense, what maybe in
- 2:58Speaker 1: store for the team and the organization this come off season.
- 3:00Speaker 1: It's gonna be great to talk to Ed. So, Len,
- 3:03Speaker 1: let's just get into this Philadelphia Phillies team. Yes, it's
- 3:06Speaker 1: the off season. I would highly recommend everybody go back
- 3:09Speaker 1: into the feed at an opportunity this past week go
- 3:12Speaker 1: to the Redding Hot Stover's banquet, where I spoke to
- 3:13Speaker 1: Von Hayes, Doug Glanville, and also Bob Dernier and great conversations.
- 3:19Speaker 1: We always love going there. I always loved being there
- 3:21Speaker 1: and interviewing various MLB and and Phillies players. But really,
- 3:26Speaker 1: I'm so happy, Len, I truly am that the Phillies
- 3:30Speaker 1: actually have re signed JT. Real Muto to a three year,
- 3:34Speaker 1: forty five million dollar contract. He's coming back. It seems
- 3:38Speaker 1: like this was an inevitability in my mind, and the
- 3:43Speaker 1: whole Boba Schett talk was like, Okay, if they do that,
- 3:46Speaker 1: they're probably not going to be able to bring JT back.
- 3:49Speaker 1: And the fact that we would have had Garrett Stubbs
- 3:52Speaker 1: or or Raphael Marshawn as the catcher of the of
- 3:57Speaker 1: the future was a little concerning to me. And yeah, yes,
- 4:00Speaker 1: he's thirty five years old, JT. Realmuto is and you know,
- 4:04Speaker 1: he's he's he's he's getting up there. But I'm glad
- 4:07Speaker 1: that they got this done. What were your thoughts when
- 4:09Speaker 1: you heard that the signing finally came through.
- 4:13Speaker 2: I mean, don't get me wrong, I like Mudo. I'm
- 4:16Speaker 2: happy he's back. I think that he still gives you
- 4:20Speaker 2: so much from a defensive standpoint and a and a
- 4:24Speaker 2: game calling standpoint that you have to kind of overlook
- 4:28Speaker 2: the offense, which is diminishing, has been diminishing for some time,
- 4:33Speaker 2: and I think by the time this contract goes over,
- 4:36Speaker 2: it's going to diminish even more. So I think you
- 4:39Speaker 2: have to be prepared for that eventuality. But he does
- 4:43Speaker 2: give you, you know, the stuff on the defensive end,
- 4:46Speaker 2: and then and then dealing with the pitching staff and
- 4:49Speaker 2: all that stuff. So that's good, and it certainly has
- 4:51Speaker 2: its value. I think. I think the thing that I
- 4:56Speaker 2: am having, and and and the feeling that a lot
- 4:59Speaker 2: of people are having, is it came right on the
- 5:02Speaker 2: heels of Bashett signing with the Mets. So not only
- 5:06Speaker 2: did they not sign with us, they signed with, you know,
- 5:09Speaker 2: one of our biggest division rivals. So that hurts in
- 5:14Speaker 2: and of itself. But so I think the fact that
- 5:18Speaker 2: Bashett didn't sign here overshadows any good feeling on real mudo.
- 5:23Speaker 2: And and it also kind of which I'm sure we're
- 5:27Speaker 2: going to get into, but it does lean into the Okay,
- 5:31Speaker 2: they're running it back, They're running the offense back, and
- 5:34Speaker 2: this is the offense that always fizzles in the playoffs
- 5:38Speaker 2: we've seen. I feel like there's already a feeling of
- 5:44Speaker 2: we've seen this movie before with Phillies, and it's really
- 5:48Speaker 2: not a an exciting offseason so far. Yeah, I guess
- 5:52Speaker 2: they they did the things that they had to do.
- 5:55Speaker 2: They had to resign shore where they did, you got
- 5:58Speaker 2: to a point where once once Bashett pivoted with the Mets,
- 6:02Speaker 2: then you know, okay, that frees up any other money
- 6:05Speaker 2: the Phillies might have spent and go out and bring
- 6:08Speaker 2: Romudo back in. But it does feel an awful lot
- 6:11Speaker 2: like okay, what's new? Nothing so and a kind of
- 6:20Speaker 2: auxiliary I guess concerned that it gives me is everybody
- 6:25Speaker 2: is going to go into this season going what's different. Oh,
- 6:28Speaker 2: here's Justin Crawford, and they're going to pin all of
- 6:32Speaker 2: their hopes and dreams and you all and pressure on him.
- 6:38Speaker 2: And if he doesn't come out of the gate fast,
- 6:41Speaker 2: then you know there's gonna be a lot of pressure
- 6:43Speaker 2: on him, and there's going to be a lot of oh,
- 6:48Speaker 2: oh man, he's not ready. This sucks. We were back
- 6:51Speaker 2: to having get nothing out of the outfield, and you know,
- 6:55Speaker 2: our guys are all one more year older. So I
- 6:58Speaker 2: mean it sounds like they're done. Dobrowski said, you know,
- 7:02Speaker 2: I'm happy with the lineup being the way it is,
- 7:06Speaker 2: So I mean they have to, you know, all, you know,
- 7:11Speaker 2: plays as good as they did last year or better offensively. Otherwise.
- 7:15Speaker 2: I mean there's the potential, I think for this season
- 7:20Speaker 2: to go on the wrong tracks quickly. They can't afford
- 7:24Speaker 2: to have the typical slow Philly start. They have to
- 7:27Speaker 2: come out of the gate hitting and they have to.
- 7:29Speaker 2: We're gonna have to manufacture excitement because I don't feel
- 7:32Speaker 2: like with this offseason the excitement is just gonna be
- 7:36Speaker 2: there because we've seen all these guys before.
- 7:39Speaker 1: Yeah, it's it's gonna be the it's gonna be a
- 7:41Speaker 1: prove to us that we should be excited, prove to
- 7:44Speaker 1: us that we should be And I think rightfully so.
- 7:47Speaker 1: And from what you're saying, the theme really is of
- 7:50Speaker 1: this off season and how we're viewing twenty twenty six
- 7:53Speaker 1: kind of just meh, you know, we're kind of just
- 7:56Speaker 1: met at this point, and it's just well, I was
- 7:59Speaker 1: gonna say, since yeah, yeah, good, Well, I was gonna say,
- 8:02Speaker 1: even though we're feeling like that, because I'm feeling it too.
- 8:05Speaker 1: I'm absolutely feeling it. And I wonder if I'm really
- 8:07Speaker 1: reaching here, And tell me if I am. The fact
- 8:10Speaker 1: that we are likely going to have a healthy Bryce
- 8:13Speaker 1: Harper and will he stay healthy all season, who the
- 8:15Speaker 1: hell knows. But and with Justin Crawford to Andrew Painter,
- 8:19Speaker 1: I think there are these glimmers and little sparks of
- 8:21Speaker 1: hope that we can hang onto heading into this season.
- 8:25Speaker 1: But again, I don't know if I'm reaching here, in
- 8:27Speaker 1: order to remain optimistic come home where this team is
- 8:29Speaker 1: gonna go.
- 8:31Speaker 2: I don't think so. I think that that Bryce Harper
- 8:35Speaker 2: is the question is can they adequately protect him in
- 8:39Speaker 2: the lineup and make sure he's seeing pitches to hit
- 8:42Speaker 2: because he had the lowest amount of pitches in the
- 8:44Speaker 2: zone to hit in baseball last year. But I think
- 8:49Speaker 2: that whole and I don't think it was by design.
- 8:51Speaker 2: I think it was genuinely a gaff on Dombrowski's part.
- 8:54Speaker 2: But that whole thing of oh, Bryce Harper didn't have
- 8:57Speaker 2: an elite year last year? Can he get to that
- 9:00Speaker 2: elite level?
- 9:00Speaker 1: Again?
- 9:01Speaker 2: That questioning of Bryce Harper. You can tell Harper's he
- 9:04Speaker 2: There's already been photos of him, you know, taking batting
- 9:07Speaker 2: practice in a shirt that says not elite. So I
- 9:10Speaker 2: think I genuinely think he is out to basically I'm
- 9:16Speaker 2: going to do well and I'm gonna stuff it up
- 9:18Speaker 2: your ass Dombrowski, And I think that is his attitude
- 9:21Speaker 2: heading into the season, which it could be great. I mean,
- 9:23Speaker 2: that could be a catalyst lights of fire under him
- 9:26Speaker 2: and really makes him have a great year. Hopefully it
- 9:31Speaker 2: doesn't go in the opposite direction where he's looking too much,
- 9:34Speaker 2: and he's chasing too much and all that stuff. I mean,
- 9:36Speaker 2: he does have to maintain some semblance of discipline at
- 9:39Speaker 2: the plate, and if he's not getting the pitches to hit,
- 9:43Speaker 2: it's going to make it harder for him to be disciplined.
- 9:45Speaker 2: And I think that's where some of the concern is
- 9:47Speaker 2: with the with the Phillies offseason, is we didn't do
- 9:50Speaker 2: anything to protect him because Schwarber is going to be
- 9:53Speaker 2: back at the top of the order, So it's not
- 9:55Speaker 2: like he's going to be right behind, you know, Harper
- 9:58Speaker 2: and the on deck circle at the plate. That's not
- 10:00Speaker 2: going to happen. So who's behind Harper protecting him in
- 10:04Speaker 2: the lineup? So I am I would be buying on
- 10:09Speaker 2: Bryce Harper this year if I was doing like a
- 10:11Speaker 2: fantasy baseball thing, I would be buying on Harper this
- 10:13Speaker 2: year because I do think he has a chip on
- 10:16Speaker 2: his shoulder towards his own you know, president of Baseball Operations.
- 10:21Speaker 2: But you know that doesn't necessarily mean you know, he
- 10:24Speaker 2: does get hurt sometimes, So I mean it, you know
- 10:27Speaker 2: it could happen. But I'm I'm buying on on Bryce
- 10:30Speaker 2: Harper this year. But I just it's the thing of Okay,
- 10:35Speaker 2: we we reached this point in we made the World Series, Okay,
- 10:38Speaker 2: we lost to Houston, and then the next year it
- 10:41Speaker 2: was one step back as far as you know, one
- 10:43Speaker 2: less round, and the year after that again one less round.
- 10:46Speaker 2: And it just feels like they topped out in that
- 10:49Speaker 2: World Series against Houston of making it there. And it's
- 10:53Speaker 2: been one more step back each year. And you didn't
- 10:56Speaker 2: really change anything in the offseason after a couple straight
- 11:00Speaker 2: of dismal offensive performances in playoff exits. So it's just like, well,
- 11:06Speaker 2: what's changed, what's going to be different about this year? Yeah,
- 11:09Speaker 2: And I think that's where a lot of the fans,
- 11:12Speaker 2: you know, lack of excitement stems from.
- 11:15Speaker 1: Yeah, it's you know, we're going to continue to talk
- 11:17Speaker 1: about this Phillies team in the coming weeks and and
- 11:20Speaker 1: of course the coming months here when spring training starts
- 11:23Speaker 1: as well. I think there's gonna be somewhat of excitement
- 11:25Speaker 1: regarding this team. But as we're moving along, Lend too
- 11:29Speaker 1: and again knowing that you're gonna have to go to
- 11:31Speaker 1: work in a little bit here, really wanted to talk
- 11:33Speaker 1: about the really wanted to talk about the Kyle Tucker
- 11:38Speaker 1: signing to the Dodgers. A group of Major League Baseball
- 11:43Speaker 1: team owners are apparently so upset with the Los Angeles
- 11:46Speaker 1: Dollars Dodgers sorry that they're gonna be pushing for a se.
- 11:49Speaker 2: Maybe they should be the Los Angeles Dollars, I mean.
- 11:53Speaker 1: Los Angeles. Why didn't we think of this? Has anybody
- 11:56Speaker 1: not thought of that? Did? I just screw up? It's
- 11:58Speaker 1: something good.
- 11:58Speaker 2: It's the one slip of the tongue you've ever had. Yes,
- 12:02Speaker 2: it was actually genius.
- 12:03Speaker 1: Yeah, there we go, once and done, folks. That's it done.
- 12:09Speaker 1: The Los Angeles Dollars. Oh my god, I'm gonna set
- 12:12Speaker 1: it again the Dodgers.
- 12:13Speaker 2: Now you're never gonna say their name right.
- 12:14Speaker 1: Here exactly exactly. So there's team owners throughout Major League Baseball.
- 12:18Speaker 1: They're gonna be pushing for a salary cap in the
- 12:22Speaker 1: very near future. And that's because the Dodgers did strike
- 12:26Speaker 1: a deal to bring Kyle Tucker to Los Angeles free
- 12:29Speaker 1: agency this offseason, and just a ridiculous amount of money.
- 12:35Speaker 1: Two hundred and forty million dollar deal. The sixty million
- 12:39Speaker 1: dollar average annual value is the second largest and Major
- 12:42Speaker 1: League Baseball history, behind Shoeyotani his ten year, seventy sorry
- 12:47Speaker 1: seventy seven hundred million dollar deal. The Dodgers are just
- 12:52Speaker 1: absolutely buying up the best players in Major League Baseball,
- 12:55Speaker 1: and the again that can major League Baseball allows them
- 12:58Speaker 1: to do it. There is no salary cap. But this,
- 13:01Speaker 1: I think when could be the straw that breaks the
- 13:03Speaker 1: camel's back. And I think it could level the playing
- 13:06Speaker 1: field with certain smaller market teams, perhaps mid level, mid
- 13:10Speaker 1: level market teams as well. I actually think it might
- 13:13Speaker 1: be a good thing for Major League Baseball at this
- 13:15Speaker 1: point in time in twenty twenty six. What are your
- 13:17Speaker 1: thoughts on that, this potential salary cap. We haven't talked
- 13:20Speaker 1: about it in a bit.
- 13:21Speaker 2: I mean, on the surface, what the Dodgers are doing.
- 13:26Speaker 2: You're right, they are under the rules of Major League Baseball.
- 13:30Speaker 2: They are allowed to operate this way, and that's fine.
- 13:32Speaker 2: They're not doing anything wrong or illegal or cheating in
- 13:36Speaker 2: any way, shape or form. So I want to get
- 13:39Speaker 2: that out out up front with the Dodgers. I'm not,
- 13:42Speaker 2: you know, begrudging them anything. Hey, they're spending the money.
- 13:45Speaker 2: Good for them, yep. But when I saw the crawl
- 13:49Speaker 2: on ESPN that Tucker who. I was like, Okay, maybe
- 13:52Speaker 2: he'll go to Toronto and you know they'll that'll strengthen
- 13:56Speaker 2: that that lineup and maybe they'll you know, get get
- 13:59Speaker 2: a good run in again. But when I saw he
- 14:01Speaker 2: signed with Dodgers, I actually did audibly say, are you
- 14:06Speaker 2: fucking kidding right? Because because it is, it's overkill, and
- 14:11Speaker 2: so let's go through. Here's a list of the of
- 14:14Speaker 2: the Dodgers players with nine figure deals. Thank you so
- 14:18Speaker 2: Shoho Tani ten years, seven hundred million, Mookie Betts twelve years,
- 14:22Speaker 2: three hundred and sixty five million, forgot about it, Yoshinobu
- 14:25Speaker 2: Yamamado twelve years, three hundred and twenty five million, Kyle
- 14:29Speaker 2: Tucker four years two hundred and forty million, Blake Snell
- 14:32Speaker 2: five years one hundred and eighty two million, Freddy Freeman
- 14:35Speaker 2: six years, one hundred and sixty two million, Will Smith
- 14:38Speaker 2: ten years one hundred and forty million, and finally Tyler
- 14:42Speaker 2: Glass now five years one hundred and thirty six million
- 14:45Speaker 2: and change. So that fucking lineup, it's it's fucking crazy.
- 14:51Speaker 2: It's bomkers there there. There is a small part of
- 14:55Speaker 2: me and I'll never root for the Dodgers under any circumstances.
- 14:58Speaker 2: But there is a small part of me that hopes
- 15:00Speaker 2: to god they go one hundred and sixty two and
- 15:03Speaker 2: oh and go undefeated in the in the in the playoffs,
- 15:08Speaker 2: so that Major League Baseball heading into this whole CBA
- 15:11Speaker 2: thinking go, all right, guys, look, this isn't even fun anymore. Right, Nobody,
- 15:18Speaker 2: nobody outside of your organization likes our product because it's
- 15:25Speaker 2: just so lopsided to one team. And you know, let's
- 15:29Speaker 2: not act like you know, and I've seen Dodgers fans go, oh,
- 15:32Speaker 2: what doesn't your team do it well? Some team? Plenty
- 15:36Speaker 2: of teams. Look, there are some teams out there that
- 15:39Speaker 2: have dog shit owners and that sucks. And I'm glad
- 15:41Speaker 2: that the Phillies are not one of them. But you know, yeah,
- 15:45Speaker 2: I mean there's plenty of teams out there, like the
- 15:47Speaker 2: Phillies that do spend money that still just don't have
- 15:54Speaker 2: to play in that level of financially. You just you
- 15:59Speaker 2: just it's not realistic. And I and maybe part of
- 16:04Speaker 2: that is that the deferrals that that LA has uh
- 16:08Speaker 2: worked into their into their contract structure. Maybe that's something
- 16:11Speaker 2: that goes by the wayside. But I I in a
- 16:14Speaker 2: way I hope that the Dodgers win so much and
- 16:17Speaker 2: it's so lopsided this year that major League Baseball has
- 16:21Speaker 2: has no choice but to go. Guys like, we can't.
- 16:28Speaker 2: We can't do this because our fans aren't even interested
- 16:32Speaker 2: in the product anymore, because why why do you want
- 16:35Speaker 2: to watch this when you know nobody else is going
- 16:38Speaker 2: to win at all? I mean, there's no point. So
- 16:43Speaker 2: I mean I I I feel like I say it
- 16:45Speaker 2: every week whenever we talk about Major League Baseball. I
- 16:48Speaker 2: have a feeling that we're we're heading to a bad
- 16:49Speaker 2: place after the season with the CBA anyway, But this
- 16:53Speaker 2: is just a new wrinkle because it is cartoonish is
- 16:58Speaker 2: the best words point in terms of the disparity. It's
- 17:04Speaker 2: just it's crazy. So yeah, I'm something. I have a film.
- 17:10Speaker 2: They're gonna get to a point where something has to
- 17:12Speaker 2: be done because it's just gonna look bonkers otherwise. The
- 17:17Speaker 2: players may not like it, but guess what, there's plenty
- 17:21Speaker 2: of guys in every other sport that are operating under
- 17:24Speaker 2: a salary cap yep, And and it doesn't hurt them.
- 17:28Speaker 2: They're they're living just fine.
- 17:29Speaker 1: I was gonna say they're living life, you know.
- 17:31Speaker 2: Yeah, they're they're living in a world that nobody that's
- 17:36Speaker 2: watching this show or participating in the show will ever
- 17:39Speaker 2: have the luxury to live at. Right, So you're all,
- 17:43Speaker 2: you're all doing just fine. And I don't want to
- 17:45Speaker 2: be like, oh, I'm pro owner because I don't like
- 17:48Speaker 2: either of them.
- 17:49Speaker 1: I I I We're not like that on this show.
- 17:51Speaker 1: We are always pro player. We want players to get paid.
- 17:56Speaker 2: Have Yeah, generally I am, but i'm And maybe it's
- 18:00Speaker 2: the political landscape and maybe it's just doom and gloom
- 18:03Speaker 2: every single day, every time you read an article and
- 18:06Speaker 2: everywhere you look. But I'm just like, I can't care
- 18:09Speaker 2: about the millionaires and I can't care about the billionaires
- 18:13Speaker 2: because all I'm doing is looking at the fact that
- 18:15Speaker 2: I'm never going to be able to retire because I
- 18:18Speaker 2: won't be able to afford, you know, healthcare. So you know,
- 18:22Speaker 2: you can all go fuck yourselves. Yeah, that's that. That's
- 18:25Speaker 2: part of why I'm like almost girding myself for the
- 18:29Speaker 2: end of the year to go fuck you Baseball if
- 18:31Speaker 2: they if they go and do this, because I I
- 18:35Speaker 2: don't and I don't think either of those groups realize,
- 18:39Speaker 2: and especially the players, because they're the ones that are
- 18:40Speaker 2: going to fight tooth and the aligance cellar cap. I
- 18:42Speaker 2: don't think they realize how out of touch they're going
- 18:45Speaker 2: to look.
- 18:45Speaker 1: Absolutely, Boy, what a great way to end that segment.
- 18:48Speaker 1: Don't get them mad, folks, don't get one hunsick or
- 18:50Speaker 1: mad here. No, it's but it's nothing I'm saying here
- 18:53Speaker 1: around is not legitimate messing around Folks. If you are
- 18:59Speaker 1: listening to us on watching us on YouTube, like and
- 19:02Speaker 1: subscribe to the Philadelphia Sports Table podcast show here. Share
- 19:06Speaker 1: a podcast with your friends, your family who are into
- 19:08Speaker 1: the world of Philly sports. And even if they're not,
- 19:10Speaker 1: We've got a lot of great sports talk on this
- 19:13Speaker 1: podcast platform. We are gonna take a break and when
- 19:16Speaker 1: we come back, gonna have some Sixers talk and then
- 19:19Speaker 1: get down get to what we are thrown down on
- 19:21Speaker 1: the table. Stick with us. All right, we are back,
- 19:25Speaker 1: and now we're gonna be diving into some Sixers talk,
- 19:28Speaker 1: specifically with one particular gentleman, and that gentleman is Jared
- 19:32Speaker 1: McCain and Len It looks as though the Sixers front
- 19:36Speaker 1: office Daryl Morey, looks like they may have whiffed on
- 19:40Speaker 1: Jared McCain. What seemed to be a promising pick based
- 19:43Speaker 1: on his hot start last year as rookie season certainly
- 19:47Speaker 1: has fizzled, and it's a storyline I wanted to bring
- 19:51Speaker 1: up because of where this franchise and organization is at
- 19:55Speaker 1: right now. I mean, again, we thought they landed a
- 19:58Speaker 1: steal in the twenty twenty four NBA Draft when McCain
- 20:02Speaker 1: began his career as the best rookie in the class.
- 20:05Speaker 1: A year later, he's returning from injury, yes, and and
- 20:09Speaker 1: things have not gone as expected for him, and a
- 20:12Speaker 1: player that they actually passed on looks like probably would
- 20:16Speaker 1: have been a better selection. But McCain's injury recovery has
- 20:20Speaker 1: been a long, arduous one, and you know, he's come
- 20:24Speaker 1: back as a shell of the rookie phenom that he was.
- 20:29Speaker 1: He's shooting only thirty two point three percent from deep,
- 20:34Speaker 1: thirty five point four percent from the field overall, and
- 20:38Speaker 1: in fact, you know, he's not doing that great of
- 20:40Speaker 1: a job in the G League as well as his
- 20:42Speaker 1: shooting struggles. Seems like the Sixers may have whiffed on him,
- 20:47Speaker 1: And quite frankly, it's a big deal in terms of
- 20:50Speaker 1: what the building of this team is and what we
- 20:53Speaker 1: hoped that it would look like in the future. So
- 20:56Speaker 1: wanted to get your thoughts on it, man, because like,
- 20:58Speaker 1: it's kind of depressing to see where Jared McCain is
- 21:00Speaker 1: at this point given the high hopes we had that
- 21:03Speaker 1: rookie season. Am I being too emotional about it?
- 21:11Speaker 2: I don't know if emotionals right where I would say
- 21:13Speaker 2: maybe premature. And this is coming from it, This is
- 21:16Speaker 2: coming from a guy that maybe this is the middle
- 21:18Speaker 2: aged man in me. But like I saw when he
- 21:21Speaker 2: was drafted and the whole TikTok dances, and I was
- 21:23Speaker 2: like Jesus Christ. But then he played right and he
- 21:27Speaker 2: was and he was great last year like you, like
- 21:29Speaker 2: you had mentioned, and I was like, damn, this kid
- 21:31Speaker 2: can play. And you know, he's had some injury things.
- 21:34Speaker 2: I don't think he forgot how to play basketball. I
- 21:38Speaker 2: think we are shoveling dirt on this kid's uh on
- 21:42Speaker 2: the on the grave of this kid's career a little
- 21:44Speaker 2: bit earlier, if you ask me, I mean, things happen,
- 21:47Speaker 2: People get hurt, you know, sometimes you run. He had
- 21:51Speaker 2: the the UCL injury last year and then he had
- 21:55Speaker 2: a meniscus injury. He had the injury with his thumb
- 21:58Speaker 2: in training camp and it's unfortunate. But as we've seen
- 22:02Speaker 2: some with you know, maybe too many people. And I
- 22:05Speaker 2: think that's part of what plays into it here because
- 22:07Speaker 2: it's the Sixers, and it's a Sixers injury history, but
- 22:11Speaker 2: sometimes thinks snowball sometimes part.
- 22:14Speaker 1: Of the rotary history of this team, do you know
- 22:16Speaker 1: what I mean? And that's where I'm in that.
- 22:17Speaker 2: Now, that's and I think that's where a lot of
- 22:20Speaker 2: the the apprehension is for the fan base and a
- 22:22Speaker 2: lot of the emotional scarring with the fan base is
- 22:26Speaker 2: like there's a there's a bit of a sense of
- 22:27Speaker 2: here we go again with regard to that. Now it's
- 22:30Speaker 2: Jared McCain's tern. Sometimes you roll from one injury right
- 22:36Speaker 2: into the other, and it affects your preparation, it affects
- 22:39Speaker 2: your your you know, ability to get into a rhythm
- 22:42Speaker 2: and you know, if you're if you're a shooter, it's
- 22:45Speaker 2: very much a rhythm thing. So I think that that
- 22:49Speaker 2: is something that Jared McCain is dealing with right now.
- 22:53Speaker 2: I every now and again, and it's in any sport
- 22:56Speaker 2: you have a season where at the end of it,
- 22:59Speaker 2: the best thing you can do is go, you know what,
- 23:02Speaker 2: flush it because flush it, move on. And I think
- 23:07Speaker 2: that may be kind of where we're at with Jared McCain.
- 23:10Speaker 2: This year. This year sucks. The important thing is keep working,
- 23:16Speaker 2: remain healthy, and maybe this just isn't your year. And
- 23:20Speaker 2: then you know, just do your prep, get in the
- 23:23Speaker 2: best shape you can, be as prepared as you can
- 23:26Speaker 2: going into next season. And we'll see what next season brings,
- 23:30Speaker 2: because you know, we it's it's different than last year
- 23:34Speaker 2: when when he was when he was doing so well
- 23:36Speaker 2: for the team. You're not looking at him to be
- 23:41Speaker 2: the starting guard anymore. I mean he is. You're just
- 23:44Speaker 2: looking for him to be third guard, you know, on
- 23:47Speaker 2: the team, the first guard off the bench piece, a
- 23:51Speaker 2: rotational depth piece, and maybe an instant offense, you know,
- 23:55Speaker 2: a guy off of the off of the bench. You know,
- 23:58Speaker 2: I think I don't know if I've used to comp before.
- 24:00Speaker 2: I feel like I have on the show. But like
- 24:02Speaker 2: if people of your if you're of a certain age
- 24:05Speaker 2: and you remember the Pistons, you know, you had Isaiah
- 24:08Speaker 2: Thomas and Joe Dumars and then you had the microwave
- 24:11Speaker 2: Vinnie Johnson coming off the bench. That is where I'm
- 24:14Speaker 2: hoping Jared McCain could be for this team because I
- 24:17Speaker 2: think you've got you know, you've got Maxie, You've got Edgecombe,
- 24:21Speaker 2: You've got your your two starting guards. I think McCain
- 24:25Speaker 2: I want him to come back. I don't I'm not
- 24:27Speaker 2: looking to trade him because I want him to be
- 24:30Speaker 2: a part of a backcourt that we can be confident
- 24:32Speaker 2: in because we have questions up front. Yeah, and that's
- 24:35Speaker 2: where I would like to see, you know, the sixers,
- 24:38Speaker 2: you know, have to focus their their transactional efforts in
- 24:41Speaker 2: building up that front court for the future. That to
- 24:45Speaker 2: me is something I would like to see them prioritize.
- 24:48Speaker 2: So I'm hoping McCain can come back so that they
- 24:50Speaker 2: don't have to go acquire more guard depth because I
- 24:53Speaker 2: feel like if he can come back, they shouldn't need
- 24:56Speaker 2: to do that. So I I I'm willing to give
- 24:59Speaker 2: this kid some time. I mean, I think we need to. Yeah,
- 25:03Speaker 2: I mean it sucks. This year has not been good
- 25:06Speaker 2: for him, and you know, I just think, you know,
- 25:10Speaker 2: you just sometimes you just have to eat it and
- 25:13Speaker 2: you have to go through it and then when it's
- 25:14Speaker 2: over and be like, Okay, this is done. I'm gonna
- 25:17Speaker 2: put everything I can into being ready next year and
- 25:20Speaker 2: then we're gonna we're gonna hit the ground running and
- 25:22Speaker 2: we're going to roll. And that's what I hope happens
- 25:24Speaker 2: next year.
- 25:25Speaker 1: You know, I I I feel like I panicked by
- 25:28Speaker 1: putting this on the agenda, to be honest with you
- 25:31Speaker 1: make a lot of sense. You make a lot of sense.
- 25:33Speaker 2: But the thing is it could potentially, you know, you know,
- 25:37Speaker 2: he wouldn't. He wouldn't be the first person to be like,
- 25:40Speaker 2: what the hell happened? His career just derailed all of
- 25:42Speaker 2: a sudden. He wouldn't be the first person that's happened
- 25:45Speaker 2: to But at the same time, I just I can't
- 25:49Speaker 2: reconcile the fact that he was so good last year
- 25:53Speaker 2: with the guy that he is this year. I just
- 25:56Speaker 2: I can't believe his ability would completely disappear from him
- 26:01Speaker 2: forever and ever. Amen, that you know, in the span
- 26:04Speaker 2: of one.
- 26:04Speaker 1: Year, exactly exactly? All right, Well, great discussions, and folks,
- 26:09Speaker 1: if you are watching on YouTube, let us know what
- 26:12Speaker 1: you're thinking about the Sixers. Jared McCain would absolutely love
- 26:15Speaker 1: to hear from you in the comments, and feel free
- 26:17Speaker 1: to shoot us off an email as well. Philadelphia Sports

- 26:24Speaker 1: show and respond to it. We dig get some emails.
- 26:27Speaker 1: Hopefully we'll get to them in some future episodes, you know,
- 26:30Speaker 1: if they are relevant. We'd love to read your emails here.
- 26:33Speaker 1: But just from a timing perspective, we got to make
- 26:35Speaker 1: sure this sweet boy can get to work in a
- 26:38Speaker 1: bit here. And I appreciate Lend how you're wearing an
- 26:41Speaker 1: orange hoodie. It matches the it matches the new colors
- 26:44Speaker 1: that we have here on the platform. Yeah.
- 26:46Speaker 2: I actually I was in the middle of talking at
- 26:49Speaker 2: one point and I was and I looked down like, oh, hey,
- 26:52Speaker 2: like so yeah, it works.
- 26:55Speaker 1: It works for sure, buddy. I'll let you go. You
- 26:57Speaker 1: got any final thoughts before we go to break.
- 27:01Speaker 2: Now, just uh, let's let's all survive snow Apocalypse twenty six.
- 27:06Speaker 1: Yes, let's survive at folks, all right, we get back, folks.
- 27:09Speaker 1: Got a lot of Eagles talk, specifically with the offense
- 27:12Speaker 1: stick with us.
- 27:15Speaker 2: And now on the table.
- 27:19Speaker 1: Joining us to dive into this Philadelphia Eagles past season
- 27:24Speaker 1: a post mortem, folks, and we really got to get
- 27:26Speaker 1: into the details of this, specifically from the offensive side.
- 27:30Speaker 1: Of things. We have one of our really good friends,
- 27:32Speaker 1: he's been coming on the podcast for years and years
- 27:35Speaker 1: over at SI Eagles today, our good friend egg Kratz.
- 27:39Speaker 1: Ed Man, thank you so much for taking the time
- 27:42Speaker 1: to jump on. I know you've been doing a lot
- 27:44Speaker 1: of deep dives into this Philadelphia Eagles offense, so I
- 27:46Speaker 1: appreciate it.
- 27:47Speaker 2: Man.
- 27:48Speaker 3: Oh yeah, yeah, there's a lot of deep diving that
- 27:51Speaker 3: has to take place absolutely offense. Yeah.
- 27:54Speaker 1: Absolutely, Well, it's good to see you, my friend, and
- 27:57Speaker 1: you know, diving into again this Eagles offense here. Just
- 28:02Speaker 1: a remarkable season quite frankly for me as a fan
- 28:05Speaker 1: in a lot of ways, a team that had a
- 28:06Speaker 1: winning record. Yet we get to the latter part of
- 28:09Speaker 1: the season and we're thinking, my goodness, things are just
- 28:13Speaker 1: not changing when we as fans. I mean, I'm a
- 28:17Speaker 1: dope here on this podcast and Eagles fan. I'm not
- 28:20Speaker 1: a coach, I'm not a front office executive, but I
- 28:23Speaker 1: know my football. You have been one of the longest
- 28:25Speaker 1: Eagles beat reporters down in Philly and for this Eagles
- 28:30Speaker 1: team for so many years. You've been doing this. You
- 28:33Speaker 1: know your football as well. Just so extremely frustrating from
- 28:38Speaker 1: an offensive perspective, no secret at all. But I think
- 28:41Speaker 1: was what was infuriating and raging, frustrating, disappointing all of
- 28:45Speaker 1: it ed was the level of sheer hope that the
- 28:49Speaker 1: fan base had that we would see something a little
- 28:52Speaker 1: different and perhaps a little something new from week to
- 28:55Speaker 1: week because we know the talent that this offensive roster
- 28:58Speaker 1: is and was, but that never really happened. So from
- 29:02Speaker 1: a pure coaching perspective, we'll get into some player perspective
- 29:06Speaker 1: aspects of this in a bit, but from a pure
- 29:08Speaker 1: coaching perspective, how and why did we continue to see
- 29:12Speaker 1: the same old, stale and predictable offensive scheme and play
- 29:17Speaker 1: calling week after week after week with little to no variations.
- 29:22Speaker 1: What are your thoughts here from what you've seen?
- 29:25Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, every season, Jeff, and you know this,
- 29:28Speaker 3: and your listeners know this presents a different challenge. Every
- 29:31Speaker 3: team is different, right, you know it's the old cliche,
- 29:35Speaker 3: no team stays the same. But I can't recall a
- 29:38Speaker 3: time in my you know, more than twelve years covering
- 29:42Speaker 3: this team full time, or the offense just look the
- 29:45Speaker 3: way it did, which was really dysfunctional, really disjointed. As
- 29:52Speaker 3: you mentioned, each week brought hope that hey, maybe we're
- 29:55Speaker 3: going to see something a little different. Maybe so, And
- 29:57Speaker 3: you know, I think there were maybe some game games
- 30:00Speaker 3: where we saw some you know, glimmers of of the
- 30:03Speaker 3: offense looking like, okay, this is it, and but you know,
- 30:08Speaker 3: the little spark just kind of went out, you know,
- 30:10Speaker 3: it never really caught fire, yeph. So it was you know,
- 30:15Speaker 3: really frustrating from that standpoint. And as to why, you know,
- 30:21Speaker 3: I think play calling and play design yet absolutely they
- 30:24Speaker 3: were a part of that. But I don't think you
- 30:26Speaker 3: can put just that at the top. You know, that's
- 30:29Speaker 3: probably at the top of the list if you want
- 30:30Speaker 3: to order this, But it's not just that. It's not
- 30:33Speaker 3: one reason for what we saw, uh this past season,
- 30:37Speaker 3: like I said, a season to me that I'd never
- 30:39Speaker 3: seen before from an offense. There are other aspects to
- 30:44Speaker 3: it as well. But you know, the face of that
- 30:46Speaker 3: offense was Kevin Petulo obviously, and you know he was
- 30:50Speaker 3: promoted from within. That always hasn't worked for the Eagles.
- 30:53Speaker 3: We saw Brian Johnson get promoted from within and he
- 30:57Speaker 3: lasted a year and he was out the door. And yeah,
- 31:00Speaker 3: the same with Kevin Patulo.
- 31:01Speaker 1: So we really quick, really quick, Yeah, something I mentioned
- 31:05Speaker 1: on the podcast a couple weeks ago was that perhaps
- 31:09Speaker 1: the front office and I could be completely wrong about this,
- 31:12Speaker 1: but from a hindsight being twenty twenty, when they got
- 31:16Speaker 1: rid of their defensive coach in the twenty twenty three
- 31:20Speaker 1: season after it was a disaster. Bringing Matt Patricia still
- 31:25Speaker 1: a complete disaster that they fell off that six game
- 31:30Speaker 1: losing streak where they just fell off a cliff. I
- 31:32Speaker 1: don't necessarily think they would want that to happen again,
- 31:35Speaker 1: making that coaching change rate mid season or the latter
- 31:39Speaker 1: part of the season, maybe two thirds of the way
- 31:41Speaker 1: through the season. My thought was, hindsight being twenty twenty,
- 31:45Speaker 1: they didn't want to just make a coaching change mid
- 31:48Speaker 1: you know, in the middle of the season. I'm wondering
- 31:50Speaker 1: if that played a part in it, just because of
- 31:53Speaker 1: what happened in twenty twenty three and how twenty twenty
- 31:55Speaker 1: three ended.
- 31:57Speaker 3: Yeah, that's sort of how I viewed it too, Jeff.
- 31:59Speaker 3: Was the Eagles did replace Sean Deci with Matt Patricia MTCT.
- 32:04Speaker 3: Patricia was in the building. They brought him in, you know,
- 32:07Speaker 3: earlier in the season to be kind of a consultant,
- 32:11Speaker 3: and I think they learned from that. Things didn't get better.
- 32:14Speaker 3: And they had this Matt Patricia guy right, who was
- 32:16Speaker 3: a super Bowl champion with Bill Belichick and had all
- 32:20Speaker 3: these credentials, but yet things did not improve, and I
- 32:24Speaker 3: think they learned from that. Otherwise maybe they do make
- 32:26Speaker 3: a move, But then the question would have been, Okay,
- 32:29Speaker 3: who's going to do it? Is? Is Siriani going to
- 32:32Speaker 3: be the play car He did not want to do
- 32:34Speaker 3: just play calling? So who do you who do you
- 32:37Speaker 3: turn to? I mean there was nobody like, you know,
- 32:39Speaker 3: Frank Reich in the building, someone that you know, or
- 32:42Speaker 3: even Nick Foles, you know who you know to me
- 32:45Speaker 3: would be a great OC but that's another story. But
- 32:49Speaker 3: there was nobody to turn to. I mean, who you're
- 32:50Speaker 3: gonna do Jeff Staltlin. I mean he's kind of a
- 32:53Speaker 3: assistant head coach, run game coordinator. The run game was,
- 32:57Speaker 3: you know, off awful.
- 32:58Speaker 1: We'll get to that in a second.
- 33:00Speaker 3: But the point being is, so you're gonna turn to
- 33:03Speaker 3: Jamal Singleston, maybe Scott Leffler who had done it in
- 33:06Speaker 3: college at Bowling Green, no real NFL experience, So you know,
- 33:09Speaker 3: those two things I think combined is why they didn't
- 33:12Speaker 3: move away from Petullo, you know, in November or after
- 33:15Speaker 3: Thanksgiving whenever.
- 33:16Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, Well, I you know, from an offensive perspective,
- 33:21Speaker 1: ed and specifically with the run blocking from the offensive
- 33:26Speaker 1: line that we saw, I mean, the complete regression or
- 33:30Speaker 1: just you use the word disjointed nature of what this
- 33:34Speaker 1: offensive line was. From a run blocking perspective, pass protection,
- 33:39Speaker 1: pass pro I thought was pretty positive throughout this season.
- 33:43Speaker 1: But man, the run blocking, as we all saw, was
- 33:46Speaker 1: just terrible for much of the season. It's amazing that
- 33:48Speaker 1: Saquon Barkley got the yards that he actually ended up
- 33:51Speaker 1: getting at the end of the at the end of
- 33:52Speaker 1: the season, and I know a bunch of guys were
- 33:55Speaker 1: injured throughout the entire season, mainly Cam Jurgen's, Landon Dickerson,
- 33:59Speaker 1: Jordan Mailatta just didn't seem to have the same dominance
- 34:02Speaker 1: that we've seen from him in the past, and of
- 34:04Speaker 1: course Lane Johnson not able to finish the season as well.
- 34:07Speaker 1: It was just an offensive line that was, like you said,
- 34:10Speaker 1: disjointed and just just so inconsistent. It's not what we're
- 34:15Speaker 1: used to as Eagles fans. We've been very spoiled over
- 34:17Speaker 1: the years. But for the run blocking with this offensive
- 34:21Speaker 1: line to have been as bad as it was. Because
- 34:23Speaker 1: it was bad, we all saw it. Was there something
- 34:26Speaker 1: more going on than just the health of the offensive
- 34:29Speaker 1: line from what you.
- 34:30Speaker 3: Know, Yeah, well, I think there's the physical part of
- 34:34Speaker 3: that when you talk about the health, and then there's
- 34:36Speaker 3: a mental part of it. Physically that you know, they're
- 34:40Speaker 3: a very physical offensive line. They like to play physically,
- 34:43Speaker 3: they like to win that battle in the trenches. And
- 34:47Speaker 3: you know, to me, I'm not sure that that same
- 34:51Speaker 3: mental focus was there. You know, obviously the injuries were
- 34:54Speaker 3: part of it. Cam Jurgen's back surgery, Landon Dickerson battled
- 34:57Speaker 3: through three or four different injury He's only one guy
- 35:01Speaker 3: made every start on that O line. That was Tyler Steen,
- 35:04Speaker 3: kind of the newcomer, you know, he made every start.
- 35:08Speaker 3: You know. Jordan Malatta, like you mentioned, wasn't and you know,
- 35:12Speaker 3: and I'm sure he's battling something. He would never admit
- 35:15Speaker 3: to it, but he was a big proponent of taking
- 35:17Speaker 3: that final week off of the regular season to heal up,
- 35:22Speaker 3: to get well physically and mentally. The mental part of
- 35:25Speaker 3: this is I think playing twenty one games last year,
- 35:29Speaker 3: getting up every single game and playing at such a
- 35:33Speaker 3: high physical level. I think mentally might have been hard
- 35:37Speaker 3: for them to do. I mean we just saw them
- 35:39Speaker 3: kind of their interests just didn't seem they didn't have
- 35:41Speaker 3: that urgency or.
- 35:42Speaker 1: That yeah urgency. Yeah yeah.
- 35:45Speaker 3: It just seemed lacking at times. And I'm not sure
- 35:50Speaker 3: really it's concerning to me with Cam Jurgens. I mean,
- 35:53Speaker 3: he was a Pro Bowl center. I don't know how.
- 35:56Speaker 1: I don't know how that happened.
- 35:58Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, he he he would just like guys
- 36:01Speaker 3: get right by him. Like I thought it was interesting
- 36:04Speaker 3: that the Eagles resigned him to a big contract after
- 36:06Speaker 3: he had back surgery last year. I don't think Cam
- 36:10Speaker 3: was ever one hundred percent all year, and I wonder
- 36:13Speaker 3: if that back has taken its toll. You know, it
- 36:16Speaker 3: certainly did in this early part of the season, and
- 36:19Speaker 3: it really never seemed to go away. And now you wonder, geez,
- 36:22Speaker 3: after an offseason of rest. Uh, you know, their season
- 36:26Speaker 3: was over so much earlier this year, they didn't have
- 36:28Speaker 3: to play those extra games. But can he get back
- 36:31Speaker 3: to what he was in that Super Bowl run last year?
- 36:36Speaker 3: You know, they're paying them a lot of money. They
- 36:38Speaker 3: have faith that he will, and you hope that he
- 36:40Speaker 3: can I mean he's twenty six years old. I think
- 36:42Speaker 3: he'll return and play in his twenty sixth year, so
- 36:45Speaker 3: he's young. That's a concern. Another concern, like is this
- 36:49Speaker 3: line has played so many snaps because they're always in
- 36:52Speaker 3: the postseason, So you know, they play every snap in
- 36:56Speaker 3: the regular season more or less at least before this year,
- 37:00Speaker 3: and then comes the postseason where they've logged an extra
- 37:02Speaker 3: last year, they probably put in an extra three hundred
- 37:04Speaker 3: snaps in four games. I mean that takes its toll.
- 37:08Speaker 3: So you look at it like Landon Dickerson, who's twenty
- 37:10Speaker 3: seven years old, but the wear and tear on him
- 37:13Speaker 3: might make him look like he's playing as a thirty
- 37:16Speaker 3: three year old or something like that because of all
- 37:18Speaker 3: these snaps that he logged. So even though they're young
- 37:22Speaker 3: in age, you wonder if this physical toll is playing
- 37:26Speaker 3: week in and week out and playing at such a
- 37:28Speaker 3: high physical level has kind of worn them down a
- 37:30Speaker 3: little bit. Yeah, that's an overarching concern for everybody on
- 37:33Speaker 3: that line. My concern with Jurgens is the back with
- 37:37Speaker 3: Dickerson and Lane Johnson couldn't even make it through a
- 37:40Speaker 3: full season and Jordan Malatta. You wonder if Okay, yeah,
- 37:44Speaker 3: they're in their twenties, but you know, maybe with all
- 37:47Speaker 3: these snaps they're more like players in their thirties at
- 37:49Speaker 3: this point.
- 37:50Speaker 1: Absolutely. Look, there were some things I saw online where
- 37:53Speaker 1: people were saying, what is Jeff Stoutland doing? My gosh,
- 37:55Speaker 1: what is Jeff Stoutlin thinking here? And I mean Jeff
- 37:58Speaker 1: Stoutland is a the foundational pieces that he has laid
- 38:02Speaker 1: for this Eagles offensive line over the years. I don't
- 38:05Speaker 1: think anybody should be really questioning Jeff Staltlin and his
- 38:09Speaker 1: coaching abilities at this point. I mean, there's only so
- 38:12Speaker 1: much you can do, I'm assuming as a coach when
- 38:15Speaker 1: the guys who are out on the field just just
- 38:18Speaker 1: can't have the drive that they they have had because
- 38:22Speaker 1: of the injuries that you just mentioned. So I just
- 38:24Speaker 1: want to be clear, like, this isn't a Staltland thing, correct.
- 38:26Speaker 1: I kind of want to put that to rest.
- 38:28Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't think it is. You know, he has
- 38:31Speaker 3: been added a long time. I don't think he's changed
- 38:33Speaker 3: anything in his approach and the way he works his guys.
- 38:37Speaker 3: I just think that you know, like I said before,
- 38:39Speaker 3: you know, the physical and mental part of playing offensive
- 38:42Speaker 3: line in Philadelphia takes its toll. Now, I will say
- 38:45Speaker 3: the depth this year of the line wasn't the best.
- 38:48Speaker 3: It was young. I thought they should have put Cam
- 38:52Speaker 3: Jurgens on IR at some point when he was struggling
- 38:54Speaker 3: with the knee and let his back rest and this
- 38:56Speaker 3: and that. I mean, he had a couple of guys,
- 38:58Speaker 3: Drew Kendall, their rookie center who they pick, who started
- 39:00Speaker 3: the last game of the regular season, who I thought,
- 39:03Speaker 3: you know, played well, at least in my eyes. You know,
- 39:05Speaker 3: it's hard to judge offensive line play, but you know,
- 39:09Speaker 3: he looked like he did a pretty good job. And
- 39:11Speaker 3: talking to some of the guys that are starters on
- 39:13Speaker 3: the line seem to agree that, yeah, Kendall played well.
- 39:16Speaker 3: So you know, I would liked to have seen them
- 39:19Speaker 3: work a little bit more with that young depth and
- 39:21Speaker 3: give some of these guys a little bit of a break,
- 39:23Speaker 3: like Jurgens on an IR. Maybe give a lot of
- 39:26Speaker 3: a couple of games to nurse whatever he's going through.
- 39:28Speaker 3: Give Dickerson some time off so he doesn't feel the
- 39:30Speaker 3: pressure to play every single week. But they never went
- 39:33Speaker 3: in that direction, And you know, I think that makes
- 39:36Speaker 3: this offensive line someplace that Howie Roseman's going to have
- 39:39Speaker 3: to adjust or address I should say, yeah, in the offseason,
- 39:43Speaker 3: whether it's through free agency or the draft, you got
- 39:46Speaker 3: to bring in some depth. And you hope that these guys,
- 39:49Speaker 3: these young guys, guys like Cam Williams and Drew Kendall
- 39:51Speaker 3: and Miles Hinton and Willie Lampkin. You know, these guys
- 39:55Speaker 3: can take that step into year two next year and
- 39:58Speaker 3: be better and a little more trustworthy for stout one
- 40:01Speaker 3: than some of these other coaches.
- 40:02Speaker 1: Absolutely, offensive line needs more depth for sure. And the
- 40:07Speaker 1: next topic, Ed, I wanted to dive into the most
- 40:10Speaker 1: three and outs of any offense in the NFL. I mean,
- 40:14Speaker 1: it's a stat that just is embarrassing. And again, as
- 40:18Speaker 1: somebody who would do a postgame podcast show after every game,
- 40:22Speaker 1: just enraging and we would talk about it continuously and
- 40:24Speaker 1: continuously throughout the season. What does this say this theme
- 40:30Speaker 1: here that we saw this season with the three and
- 40:32Speaker 1: outs most in the NFL? What does it say about
- 40:34Speaker 1: where this offense needs to go as we're heading into
- 40:37Speaker 1: the twenty twenty six season. And also is it really
- 40:41Speaker 1: a reflection of the players on the team as well?
- 40:44Speaker 1: What are your thoughts here?
- 40:46Speaker 3: Yeah, and that could be more of a scheme thing,
- 40:49Speaker 3: you know, like that. That's where I think I would
- 40:51Speaker 3: come down a little harder on the play calling and
- 40:53Speaker 3: play designe is those three and outs, you know, I
- 40:58Speaker 3: thought that that was a big part of it. But
- 41:01Speaker 3: then on the player's side of it, there were penalties
- 41:03Speaker 3: on drives that kind of on first down, especially where
- 41:07Speaker 3: aj Brown gets a false start so now it's for
- 41:09Speaker 3: first and fifteen, or you know, someone gets hit with
- 41:12Speaker 3: a holding penalty and you're in first and twenty, and
- 41:15Speaker 3: then that makes it a little more difficult to dig
- 41:18Speaker 3: out of that hole. And you know, that seemed to
- 41:20Speaker 3: be kind of a theme this year. But there were
- 41:22Speaker 3: times where you know, they came out through three passes
- 41:25Speaker 3: and had the punt because they were incomplete, or they
- 41:27Speaker 3: only picked up seven yards. So you know, I think
- 41:30Speaker 3: that is where I would come down a little harder
- 41:32Speaker 3: on Kevin Patullo is scheming things up, coming out with
- 41:37Speaker 3: you know, maybe a little bit different type of plan.
- 41:40Speaker 3: I mean, how many times do we see Jay when
- 41:42Speaker 3: hurts go under center and just hand the ball off.
- 41:44Speaker 3: I mean, it became predictable, and you know, I think
- 41:48Speaker 3: that is another reason they had a lot of three
- 41:50Speaker 3: and ounce is just the play calling wasn't as good
- 41:53Speaker 3: or as sharp or as crisp, whatever you want to say,
- 41:55Speaker 3: as it should have been to put players in position
- 41:58Speaker 3: to get first downs. It was really baffling to me.
- 42:02Speaker 1: Or innovative, you know what I mean. It wasn't an
- 42:04Speaker 1: innovative offense at all. And again, like I said, I'm
- 42:07Speaker 1: some guy doing this podcast here, I'm not an NFL expert.
- 42:11Speaker 1: I'm not a play calling expert or even a play
- 42:13Speaker 1: design expert. But I've known my football over the years
- 42:16Speaker 1: to know that there was nothing explosive about this offense
- 42:20Speaker 1: from a play design perspective that was going to net
- 42:23Speaker 1: at times. You know, you need thirty you need a
- 42:25Speaker 1: nice thirty yard explosive play, and there was nothing that
- 42:28Speaker 1: was really going to get us that from week to week, right.
- 42:31Speaker 3: Or a twelve yard completion on fourth and eleven to
- 42:34Speaker 3: the end of their season. I mean, you just run
- 42:36Speaker 3: three vertical routes. Meanwhile, you know you see the Buffalo
- 42:40Speaker 3: Bills throwing these hooking ladder plays they're catching. They did
- 42:43Speaker 3: it three times that always could go in for a
- 42:45Speaker 3: big game. I mean, where's that, Yes, where's where's we
- 42:48Speaker 3: saw a Bronco catch a Bronco tackle eligible go out
- 42:52Speaker 3: and catch touchdown pass. We saw Lane Johnson under Shanstike
- 42:55Speaker 3: and go out and catch touchdown pass. Wh Why aren't
- 42:57Speaker 3: you throwing you know what? And that's just a couple
- 43:00Speaker 3: of things. I mean, and you don't want to be
- 43:02Speaker 3: thrown at your tackle all the time, right, But you know,
- 43:05Speaker 3: the element of surprise, you know, hit him with some surprises.
- 43:07Speaker 3: It was just you know, and again Patulli paid the price.
- 43:11Speaker 3: I don't want to keep you know, ramming on him here,
- 43:13Speaker 3: but you know he paid the ultimate price. He lost
- 43:15Speaker 3: his job. Yeah, but I think a lot of it.
- 43:17Speaker 3: That's at the top of the list for me on
- 43:19Speaker 3: these three and ounce is you got to have a
- 43:21Speaker 3: little more ingenuity, yeah, to pick up first downs.
- 43:24Speaker 1: Really quick before we go to break here ed too.
- 43:26Speaker 1: I mean, everybody's saying Nick Sirianni should be on the
- 43:28Speaker 1: hot seat of course this next season, blah blah blah.
- 43:30Speaker 1: You know, I do wonder how culpable he was. Yes,
- 43:34Speaker 1: he's the head coach, but he has a decent sized leash.
- 43:37Speaker 1: I think at this point, given the fact that what
- 43:40Speaker 1: he's done during his tenure, the Eagles continue to go
- 43:42Speaker 1: to the playoffs with him as a head coach. They've
- 43:44Speaker 1: won a Super Bowl, they've been to another Super Bowl
- 43:46Speaker 1: as well, which they did lose. But I do wonder
- 43:49Speaker 1: what that leash is with him real quick before we
- 43:51Speaker 1: go to break. You know, what are your thoughts on
- 43:53Speaker 1: Sirianni and if he is going to end up being
- 43:55Speaker 1: on the hot seat in twenty twenty six.
- 43:58Speaker 3: Yeah, I think the Eagle's probably to make the playoffs.
- 44:00Speaker 3: I mean, they've made it all five years on his
- 44:04Speaker 3: on his watch here, he's won sixty five games with
- 44:07Speaker 3: in five years and counting the playoffs. I mean, it's
- 44:11Speaker 3: a great record. It's a great tracker. He gets a
- 44:13Speaker 3: lot of heat for. You know, I'm not sure why.
- 44:18Speaker 3: Maybe it's there's this perception of arrogance that he kind
- 44:21Speaker 3: of exudes and talks to the fans and is always
- 44:23Speaker 3: like mugging for the cameras, and you know, maybe that
- 44:26Speaker 3: rubs people the wrong way. But to me, you know,
- 44:29Speaker 3: what he does beyond the x's and o's, the culture
- 44:32Speaker 3: he builds and getting guys seventy different players that are
- 44:36Speaker 3: in that locker room, you know, coming from different socioeconomic backgrounds,
- 44:41Speaker 3: different pasts, getting them all to buy in that's a
- 44:45Speaker 3: hard thing to do and that he's been able to
- 44:48Speaker 3: do it, and they all connect. And you know, I
- 44:50Speaker 3: don't have a problem with them bringing him back this
- 44:52Speaker 3: year at all. And but I you know, the leash
- 44:56Speaker 3: if he doesn't make the playoffs next year and it
- 44:58Speaker 3: looks pretty bad. You know, Oh, that contract he signed
- 45:01Speaker 3: a big contract coming out of the Super Bowl. Nobody
- 45:03Speaker 3: knows what it is, but yeah, I'm willing to say
- 45:05Speaker 3: it's probably eighteen million dollars a year. Yeah, for three
- 45:09Speaker 3: to five years. And you know, so you don't want
- 45:12Speaker 3: to move on from that too quickly, but I think
- 45:14Speaker 3: this organization they're not afraid to move on from stuff
- 45:17Speaker 3: like that. And if he doesn't make the playoffs, I
- 45:19Speaker 3: think that might be the leash that might run him
- 45:22Speaker 3: out of town. I guess you could say.
- 45:23Speaker 1: Yeah, Well, folks, we are going to take a break here,
- 45:26Speaker 1: and when we get back, we got some more great
- 45:29Speaker 1: talking points and storylines to get into with Ed. We're
- 45:33Speaker 1: going to be talking about Jalen Hurts. We're going to
- 45:35Speaker 1: be talking about where this offensive coordinator position is going
- 45:38Speaker 1: to go in Yes, folks, we're going to talk about
- 45:40Speaker 1: the tush push. What the future holds for that particular play,
- 45:44Speaker 1: not just for the Eagles, but in the entire NFL.
- 45:47Speaker 1: Let's take that break. We're gonna be back in just
- 45:49Speaker 1: a bit, all right. We are back with our good
- 45:53Speaker 1: friend Ed Kratz over at Eagles Today over on SI.
- 45:57Speaker 1: Check out everything he has going on. If you're on
- 45:59Speaker 1: the Twitter, sliex, Yes, I'm still on there. The show
- 46:02Speaker 1: is still on there. Amazingly enough. It's a great follow though.
- 46:04Speaker 1: He is a great, great follow at Kratze. Correct, that's it. Yeah,
- 46:10Speaker 1: I remember, of course I remember it after all these years. Yes,
- 46:14Speaker 1: at Kratz e great, great content from Ed. He's got
- 46:17Speaker 1: a great track on what happens with this Philadelphia Eagles team,
- 46:20Speaker 1: not just during the season, but the off season as well.
- 46:23Speaker 1: So now i'd love to dive into the next offensive
- 46:27Speaker 1: coordinator who that is going to be? And you recently
- 46:30Speaker 1: wrote an article over on Eagles Today at SI about
- 46:34Speaker 1: who that new offensive coordinator should be. That individual none
- 46:37Speaker 1: other than Joe Brady, in your opinion, who has been
- 46:41Speaker 1: the offensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills for several years
- 46:44Speaker 1: now at this point. And quite frankly, I'd love this
- 46:48Speaker 1: as well. I was also hoping that Mike McDaniels would
- 46:51Speaker 1: be in the picture, but he's going to be heading
- 46:53Speaker 1: to the Los Angeles Chargers to be their offensive coordinator.
- 46:58Speaker 1: What would Joe Brady or the next offensive coordinator in
- 47:02Speaker 1: your mind, really need to bring to the table to
- 47:04Speaker 1: fix this Eagles offense next year.
- 47:07Speaker 3: Yeah. I think what I like about Joe Brady is
- 47:10Speaker 3: he's got this everybody eats philosophy that was on display
- 47:14Speaker 3: in Buffalo this year. You know, he had James Cook,
- 47:18Speaker 3: who led the league in rushing, so he got him
- 47:20Speaker 3: enough carries to put him over sixteen hundred yards on
- 47:22Speaker 3: the ground. Eagles have Saquon Barkley. We saw what he
- 47:25Speaker 3: did last year over two thousand yards. That he had
- 47:29Speaker 3: five different players catch at least thirty three passes.
- 47:32Speaker 1: You know.
- 47:34Speaker 3: That's that keeps, yeah, keeps defenses kind of on their
- 47:37Speaker 3: heels a little bit. You can't kind of just zero
- 47:40Speaker 3: in on one target. And he had Josh Allen. He
- 47:44Speaker 3: had his highest completion percentage of his career this year,
- 47:47Speaker 3: close to seventy percent. So all those factors to me,
- 47:52Speaker 3: if you substitute some of those names in with the
- 47:55Speaker 3: Philadelphia Eagles, you know, Devonte Smith, AJ Brown, whoever the
- 47:59Speaker 3: tight end are going to be Saquon Barkley, you know,
- 48:03Speaker 3: and then Jalen Hurts. I mean, I think Brady would
- 48:06Speaker 3: work really well with them. And you know, I know
- 48:09Speaker 3: the Eagles interviewed him a couple of years ago. He
- 48:11Speaker 3: was a little younger then I think he's I think
- 48:13Speaker 3: he's thirty six now or all these ages run together,
- 48:17Speaker 3: because I'm looking at so many different candidates, but he's
- 48:19Speaker 3: still in his thirties, we'll say that. And you know,
- 48:23Speaker 3: he's proven himself. You know, he worked in Carolina with
- 48:27Speaker 3: a couple of quarterbacks he had, you know, Cam Newton
- 48:31Speaker 3: came out of retirement one year for him, and you know,
- 48:33Speaker 3: we had PJ. PJ. Palmer I think was the kid
- 48:37Speaker 3: from Temple. He was working with him, and they were
- 48:39Speaker 3: winning games with some of these quarterbacks that you know
- 48:43Speaker 3: aren't exactly household names, or Cam Newton's case, he was
- 48:46Speaker 3: at the end of his career. So you know, I
- 48:48Speaker 3: like his track record. I think working with Josh Allen
- 48:51Speaker 3: in a tough place with a lot of expectation and
- 48:55Speaker 3: pressure in Buffalo, which is what you're going to have
- 48:57Speaker 3: here obviously in Philadelphia. But you know, he's he's handled that,
- 49:01Speaker 3: and I think he would be a great candidate if
- 49:04Speaker 3: the Bills don't let him get out the door. If
- 49:06Speaker 3: the Bills let him get out the door, I mean,
- 49:07Speaker 3: he might be your head coach in Buffalo, but I
- 49:10Speaker 3: think he'd be a really good fit for the Eagles
- 49:14Speaker 3: as O see.
- 49:15Speaker 1: I think it'd be great to see some more consistent
- 49:17Speaker 1: messure routes and some Texas routes by the running back.
- 49:22Speaker 1: That'd be really nice in an offensive coordinator.
- 49:25Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean all that's uh yeah, more crossing routes
- 49:29Speaker 3: and more throws between the numbers, uh you know, some
- 49:32Speaker 3: you know, maybe maybe even some screen passes. The Eagles
- 49:35Speaker 3: used to be a really good screen team, and now
- 49:37Speaker 3: all of a sudden they're not.
- 49:38Speaker 1: Exactly that West Coast offense mentality you know, was working
- 49:41Speaker 1: for a while.
- 49:43Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, so you know, I know, Saquan's not a
- 49:45Speaker 3: great catcher of the football. I mean, Kenny get They
- 49:47Speaker 3: miss Kenny Gainwall. Let's face it, I think in that
- 49:50Speaker 3: third round, very underrated. They let him go and uh,
- 49:55Speaker 3: you know, he was really good catching the ball and
- 49:56Speaker 3: they're making a moving space and get turning a third
- 49:59Speaker 3: and seven on a short throw into a first down, so,
- 50:03Speaker 3: but I'd like to see them get back into more
- 50:05Speaker 3: of a screen situation. Now. It's interesting with the OC.
- 50:08Speaker 3: How many changes is he going to be allowed to
- 50:10Speaker 3: make on that staff? You know, that was one of
- 50:12Speaker 3: the questions I asked Nick on the end of the
- 50:14Speaker 3: season press conference. Him and Howie Roseman had was you know,
- 50:19Speaker 3: and you know, how many changes will he be allowed
- 50:21Speaker 3: to make on the staff? And Nick, so, what's too
- 50:23Speaker 3: early to talk about that? And then he went on
- 50:25Speaker 3: to rave about some of the guys that are on
- 50:27Speaker 3: the staff. To me, yeah, he doesn't want to get
- 50:29Speaker 3: rid of him, so you know, there might not be
- 50:31Speaker 3: that freedom to bring in your own guys if you're
- 50:34Speaker 3: the OC, so that might limit who they can get.
- 50:36Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a very interesting point for sure. Great question
- 50:39Speaker 1: that you asked Sirianni as well. There, Ed, So there's
- 50:44Speaker 1: always so much talk and frankly a lot of rumors
- 50:47Speaker 1: about the kind of guy, the kind of player that
- 50:49Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts is in the locker room or on the field.
- 50:53Speaker 1: You know, what he can do in the passing game,
- 50:54Speaker 1: what he can't do in the passing game as well.
- 50:57Speaker 1: And I have always been ed a huge fan of
- 50:59Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts and I still remain a big fan of his,
- 51:03Speaker 1: but there are questions about what type of quarterback he
- 51:07Speaker 1: has become in the league, even after winning a Super Bowl.
- 51:10Speaker 1: I mean, he's the kind of guy we know who
- 51:12Speaker 1: He's always learning, always studying the game. From what we
- 51:16Speaker 1: understand from reports, he's serious about his role as the
- 51:21Speaker 1: quarterback for this Eagles team. But I feel at times
- 51:25Speaker 1: he does need to get better in certain spots. And
- 51:28Speaker 1: maybe it was just this season the way the offense
- 51:31Speaker 1: was being run by Kevin Pittolo. What do we need
- 51:34Speaker 1: to see from Jalen Hurts in your opinion this coming
- 51:37Speaker 1: season to kind of quell those questions surrounding his stature
- 51:41Speaker 1: on this Eagles team. What are your thoughts here?
- 51:43Speaker 3: Yeah, I'd like to see him going back to becoming
- 51:46Speaker 3: more of a dual threat. You know. The big question
- 51:49Speaker 3: everyone asked this offseat or the during the season was
- 51:51Speaker 3: why aren't you running the football more? Yeah, and no
- 51:54Speaker 3: one really gave a good answer. But if I'm an
- 51:55Speaker 3: offensive coordinator candidate, that's my question is how come Jalen
- 52:00Speaker 3: and run the football? Was that Jaylen saying he didn't
- 52:02Speaker 3: want to? Was it the team philosophy, we don't know.
- 52:05Speaker 3: But he was a more effective quarterback I thought when
- 52:08Speaker 3: he was running the football, keeping defenses off balance with
- 52:11Speaker 3: the RPO stuff, with a little play action, you know,
- 52:15Speaker 3: rolling out and making plays because you kind of had
- 52:18Speaker 3: to play him honestly, Hey is he going to run
- 52:20Speaker 3: when he rolls out? Or is he going to throw it?
- 52:22Speaker 3: So you kind of had to play that in between area.
- 52:25Speaker 3: I think that's kind of it. And I know he's
- 52:27Speaker 3: getting older, right, He's going to be twenty eight next
- 52:30Speaker 3: to start of next season, and you know guys coming
- 52:33Speaker 3: into the league are twenty one to twenty two. They're faster,
- 52:35Speaker 3: they're quicker. Hurts didn't seem like he still had that
- 52:39Speaker 3: same burst on those occasions where he did run. He
- 52:42Speaker 3: looked a little more lumbersome or you know, heavy footed.
- 52:47Speaker 3: But we didn't see it enough, and I think you
- 52:49Speaker 3: still have to present it more than what we saw
- 52:52Speaker 3: this year in order to make him as good as
- 52:54Speaker 3: he can be. And I don't know if the new
- 52:56Speaker 3: OC will be given that freedom to do that. I
- 52:59Speaker 3: don't know. At the end, answer is, but if I'm
- 53:00Speaker 3: the OC candidate, you darn well no, I'm asking that
- 53:04Speaker 3: question like what's up with Hurts his legs?
- 53:06Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, And I would think that Jalen Hurts would
- 53:09Speaker 1: want the opportunities when given given, you know, an opportunity
- 53:13Speaker 1: during the course of a game to run the ball
- 53:16Speaker 1: and to make sure that he is using his legs.
- 53:18Speaker 1: May not be as fast as he was two years ago, perhaps,
- 53:21Speaker 1: but that being said, I don't think Jalen Hurts, from
- 53:25Speaker 1: what has been reported, is the type of guy to say,
- 53:27Speaker 1: you know what, no, I don't want to do that.
- 53:29Speaker 1: You know, he seems to be the type of guy
- 53:31Speaker 1: that says, yes, let me have the ball, let me
- 53:34Speaker 1: put this team an offense on my shoulders. Would you
- 53:37Speaker 1: agree with that that he's that type of guy.
- 53:40Speaker 3: I mean, he's a winner, right, That's all he wants
- 53:42Speaker 3: to do is win, And that's always his answer to
- 53:44Speaker 3: the question. And do whatever it takes to win. And
- 53:47Speaker 3: you know we've seen that in the past with some
- 53:48Speaker 3: of his runs. You know, he'll he'll lower his shoulder,
- 53:51Speaker 3: he won't slide because he's two yards short of the
- 53:53Speaker 3: first down on third down and he needs to pick
- 53:56Speaker 3: up those two yards, so you know, he turns into
- 53:59Speaker 3: a bowl and make sure he gets him. So yeah,
- 54:01Speaker 3: he'll do whatever it takes to win. I think if
- 54:04Speaker 3: you're asking him to run the football more sure he would.
- 54:06Speaker 3: He would absolutely do it, Which leads me to believe
- 54:09Speaker 3: that maybe it was the team kind of keeping him,
- 54:12Speaker 3: you know, under wraps for whatever reason, trying to keep
- 54:14Speaker 3: him healthy, you know, because I mean a career low
- 54:19Speaker 3: in yards, which I was surprised at. You know, usually
- 54:22Speaker 3: he's over seven hundred yards rushing. He didn't even touch
- 54:24Speaker 3: five hundred this year, so it's concerning, but you know,
- 54:28Speaker 3: he threw, you know, on the plus side, he threw
- 54:29Speaker 3: for a career high twenty five touchdowns this year. I
- 54:33Speaker 3: looked up the numbers recently, and I think he's got
- 54:35Speaker 3: one hundred and seventy three total touchdowns, sixty three on
- 54:38Speaker 3: the ground, one hundred and ten in the air. I
- 54:40Speaker 3: think the Eagles record is McNab who did it in
- 54:42Speaker 3: eleven years. He's had two hundred and forty four. So
- 54:45Speaker 3: you do the math, and you know, hurts halfway through
- 54:49Speaker 3: that eleven years that McNab had, he could be, you know,
- 54:52Speaker 3: the all time touchdown leader at quarterback. But will he
- 54:55Speaker 3: be given the opportunity again. He's kind of like Siriani
- 54:58Speaker 3: is what's the least going to be. I mean, he's
- 55:00Speaker 3: getting a big CONT's, big salary cap hit this year.
- 55:04Speaker 3: You know, would they move on from him if they
- 55:07Speaker 3: don't make the playoffs in twenty six? You know, it's
- 55:09Speaker 3: the same question with Siriani. Those two were kind of
- 55:12Speaker 3: joined at the hip.
- 55:12Speaker 1: Absolutely, it's a it's a great, great question to keep
- 55:15Speaker 1: asking into having the back of our minds, folks and
- 55:18Speaker 1: ed before I let you go, And as we're dissecting
- 55:22Speaker 1: the Eagles offense and this post mortem what we saw
- 55:25Speaker 1: this past season, we got to end the discussion by
- 55:28Speaker 1: talking about the tush push. So time and time again
- 55:32Speaker 1: we hear coaches throughout the league and teams in general
- 55:35Speaker 1: complaining about the tush push for the past couple of years.
- 55:38Speaker 1: They tried to ban it last offseason. It didn't work.
- 55:41Speaker 1: Yet we saw a number of teams using it throughout
- 55:46Speaker 1: the season and using it to their advantage. I might add,
- 55:50Speaker 1: and I didn't hear too many people complaining about Josh
- 55:52Speaker 1: Allen and the Bills when they were using it. Quick Frank, Yeah,
- 55:57Speaker 1: So like I wonder, like, what are your thoughts on
- 55:59Speaker 1: where the tush push goes from here and what it
- 56:02Speaker 1: might mean for the Eagles offense maybe moving forward.
- 56:05Speaker 3: Yeah, you're right, there wasn't the same outrage, you know,
- 56:08Speaker 3: as there was last year. The Eagles didn't do it
- 56:10Speaker 3: as well this year as they have in the past either,
- 56:13Speaker 3: so they kind of got away from it a little bit.
- 56:15Speaker 3: They didn't use it as much because teams were stopping it.
- 56:18Speaker 3: So you know, that seemed to quiet all those people
- 56:21Speaker 3: that wanted to criticize it, and then their Bills do it,
- 56:23Speaker 3: and it's like, hey, you know, great play, you know,
- 56:26Speaker 3: And ironically it was the Bills that were the loudest
- 56:28Speaker 3: critics of the play. You know. Sean McDermott since canned
- 56:32Speaker 3: it wasn't in favor of it. So yet he ran
- 56:34Speaker 3: it what eight times yes, in their season ending loss. Amazing,
- 56:39Speaker 3: So you know, it seems like there's a double standard
- 56:42Speaker 3: with that. We haven't seen the outrage, but I still think, Jeff,
- 56:46Speaker 3: that there's a chance that it probably gets banned. I mean,
- 56:48Speaker 3: it was so close last year to getting getting outed
- 56:51Speaker 3: from the league, and you know, I think it was
- 56:53Speaker 3: three or four votes short, and I think that will
- 56:56Speaker 3: still happen, that they'll get rid of that play and
- 57:00Speaker 3: the pushing or the pulling they won't allow any of that.
- 57:05Speaker 3: And I still think it happens, even though there wasn't
- 57:07Speaker 3: that same outrage. I mean, it seemed like every single
- 57:10Speaker 3: week we were talking about this.
- 57:12Speaker 1: Yep.
- 57:13Speaker 3: I'm glad we're not. I'm glad that has gone away,
- 57:15Speaker 3: but I still think it's gonna get banned. I do.
- 57:18Speaker 1: Okay, all right, Well, it was great talking to you,
