- 0:01Acts chapter one. Let us pray.
- 0:06Oh Heavenly Father, you're good God.
- 0:09Thank you Jesus, thank you God Almighty for all the things that
- 0:14you do. Thank you Father for waking us
- 0:16up. Thank you, Father for clean
- 0:18drinking water. Thank you God for clothing and
- 0:21food. Thank you God for the love
- 0:23shared amongst our brothers and sisters.
- 0:25Thank you God for the church at large.
- 0:28Thank you God that you have boots on the ground charging the
- 0:31hill. God, we're taking back enemy
- 0:33territory today. Father, I pray as we put on the
- 0:36full armor of God today, let us stand in the gap.
- 0:40Let us repair the breaches. God, I pray in the name of Jesus
- 0:44that we'll go to where there is the most enemy fire, God, that
- 0:49will go into the trenches, that will go into the darkness, God,
- 0:53and take back and snatch people the firebrands out of the fire.
- 0:57God, I pray in the name of Jesus that we can stand on truth.
- 1:01Lord, I pray in the name of Jesus we can live righteously
- 1:04and live the right way and do things that are right in your
- 1:08sight. God, I pray in the name of Jesus
- 1:11that we can run the race well and finish the race well.
- 1:15I pray that the gospel goes out to the ends of the world.
- 1:19Lord, I pray in the name of Jesus for the peace that only
- 1:22comes from a relationship with you through Jesus Christ.
- 1:26Lord, I pray that we will remember our salvation story.
- 1:31Lord, we'll remember our testimony.
- 1:33We'll overcome by the power, Lord of our testimony, by the
- 1:38blood of the Lamb. Lord will trample across
- 1:41serpents. Lord, I pray in the name of
- 1:43Jesus will crush the head of the opposition.
- 1:47Yes, Lord, you are more powerful.
- 1:49You are the most powerful. You are the most High.
- 1:52You are El Elyon. God, you are I deny, El Shaddai.
- 1:56You are our everything. You're the banner, God, You're
- 1:59the provider, you're the healer, Lord, you are ABBA and God, we
- 2:04grab a hold of the hem of your garment.
- 2:06We lay our head on your chest, Lord, knowing that you are the
- 2:10Lion of Judah and you're roaring loudly over this generation.
- 2:15God, I pray that we can lift up our shield of faith.
- 2:19Let us raise our faith higher than our circumstances, higher
- 2:23than our emotions, higher than our feelings, higher than what
- 2:26the world is trying to sell us. God, we will stand firm on the
- 2:31faith, Lord, knowing that you are the author and the perfector
- 2:34of our faith and that you are leading US home.
- 2:36God, I pray that we'll use this word, we'll rightly divide this
- 2:41word, God, and that we'll be able to do war with darkness, do
- 2:45war with the satanic occult, the New age, and all of the things
- 2:50that are coming in. Father, I pray that we will find
- 2:53those that you will help us to find and to snatch them out of
- 2:59the coming flood, out of the coming fire.
- 3:01God, I pray in the name of Jesus, God, that you will help
- 3:05us to identify those who are yours, God, those who you love.
- 3:09Father, I pray that you'll help us.
- 3:11Lord, give us the mind of Christ, Give us the eyes of
- 3:14Christ. God, let us see this world the
- 3:17way that you do. Let us know, Lord, that you are
- 3:20moving mightily in our midst, Lord, and we love you.
- 3:23King Jesus, I pray as we open up your word today that you will
- 3:27give us your sound mind, that you'll give us your wisdom, that
- 3:30you'll give us your precepts upon precepts and lines upon
- 3:34lines, and that you'll be well. Please, King Jesus, Holy Spirit,
- 3:38I decrease as you increase. Give us discernment for this
- 3:42hour, God, and help us to take the whole word to the whole
- 3:45world. Help us to know what it is that
- 3:48you want to say to today, for this day, for such a time as
- 3:53this. Give us Our Daily Bread.
- 3:55Protect us from the enemy. Father, I pray as we lift you up
- 3:59higher than anything and everyone and all of the power in
- 4:03the world. God, you are the king of the
- 4:05universe. We love you, King Jesus, and
- 4:07it's in your name we pray, Amen. Let's start in verse one, the
- 4:18former treatise Have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus
- 4:23began both to do and teach. So here we can see Doctor Luke
- 4:27again on the scene, and we know that his Gospel, the Gospel of
- 4:32Luke, he was writing to Theophilus.
- 4:35Perhaps Theophilus was someone in Rome who had a high physician
- 4:42who would have been able to give a good judgement or a good word
- 4:47for Paul. Perhaps Doctor Luke here is
- 4:52scrutinizing all the fine details.
- 4:55He's coming through all of the records.
- 4:58He's writing a very reliable source, and he is showing
- 5:05Theophilus this lover of God. He's showing Theophilus that
- 5:10Paul is innocent and should be exonerated, and he's there on
- 5:16false charges. That is a thought that we can
- 5:22ponder as we read through the book of Acts, as it was a
- 5:26continuation of the book of Luke.
- 5:29And so let's keep going. We know that Luke is very detail
- 5:34oriented as a physician and he is going to show Theophilus
- 5:39here. How all the things about the way
- 5:44early Christianity is good and wholesome and innocent and there
- 5:51is nothing to fear, and that Theophilus should put his faith
- 5:57in the Lord Jesus Christ and as everyone should, and we're only
- 6:01delusional and blinded and reprobate when we choose not to.
- 6:05Friends, we've chosen. The way of Cain we've chosen
- 6:09the, the way, the destruction, we've chosen hell.
- 6:13Whenever we will not give in to the Lord Jesus Christ, when he
- 6:17comes knocking at the door, we must open and allow him in and
- 6:21allow him to dine and Sup with us.
- 6:24Verse 2 Until the day in which he was taken up.
- 6:27After that, He through the Holy Ghost had given commandments
- 6:32unto the apostles whom he had chosen.
- 6:35These were the 12 disciples, friends, and we know that Judas
- 6:40has hung himself and we know that his hanging was a failed
- 6:45attempt because he fell headlong and his intro spilled out.
- 6:49And we're going to hear about that three to whom also he
- 6:53showed himself alive after his passion by many infallible
- 6:58proofs, being seen of them 40 days and Speaking of the things
- 7:03pertaining to the Kingdom of God.
- 7:06So what you must know on verse 3 is that Jesus came and he
- 7:11reiterated all the things that he had already spoken.
- 7:17These were no new teachings of Jesus during these 40 days in
- 7:21his glorious resurrected form. This was Jesus just telling them
- 7:28all of the simple gospel, the simple truth, the ways that we
- 7:32must come to the Father, the only way which is himself.
- 7:37It's Jesus Christ and he's telling them that and being
- 7:43assembled together with them, commanded them that they should
- 7:47not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the
- 7:50Father, which he said, you have heard of me.
- 7:54So Jesus told him to go back to Jerusalem, go back to the upper
- 7:58room to wait on the Holy Ghost, the outpouring of Pentecost.
- 8:03We know that he's already breathed on them.
- 8:06We know that he back in the last part of the book of John, we
- 8:11know that Jesus appeared to them and breathed on them and gave
- 8:15them the ability to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ and to
- 8:20forgive the sins and not to forgive the sins.
- 8:24And that was through salvation, friends.
- 8:27And here he's telling them to wait on the day of Pentecost,
- 8:31when there would be a great outpouring upon the masses. 5
- 8:36For John truly baptized with water.
- 8:38But you shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days
- 8:43from here. So he was telling them to wait
- 8:45on him. And he is worth waiting on,
- 8:47friends. And the Holy Ghost is the down
- 8:50payment. And when you are filled with the
- 8:52Holy Ghost, you are experiencing just in part what is available
- 8:58to you whenever we get there in our resurrected bodies, in our
- 9:01resurrected form, for all of eternity.
- 9:04And when we've been there 10,000 years, bright and shining as the
- 9:08sun, we'll have no less days to sing His praise then when we
- 9:12first begun. Are you willing to risk it?
- 9:18Are you willing to trade eternity for a measly meager 100
- 9:23years? Time and life is much more than
- 9:27the material gain and the wealth and the power and all the little
- 9:32toys and trinkets that we set our eyes upon here.
- 9:35Let's sell out for the King of Kings.
- 9:39Let's not be found wanting. You say that you are rich and
- 9:44you have no need, but he says that he finds you wanting. 6
- 9:52When they therefore were come together, they asked of him,
- 9:57saying, Lord, will you at this time restore again the Kingdom
- 10:01to Israel? Here they are hyper focused,
- 10:04hyper fixated upon the second Advent, and they are wanting
- 10:10Jesus in his resurrected form now to go in and overthrow Rome
- 10:17and overthrow the tyranny there and the land.
- 10:20And they're wanting their little geographical piece of land on
- 10:29planet earth to be free from all of the outside rule.
- 10:36And here you need to understand that the Jews are God's chosen
- 10:43people, and it's still true to this very day.
- 10:49It has not changed. They are his chosen people and
- 10:54there's nothing we can do about it.
- 10:57We can complain and we can gripe and we can try to explain it
- 11:01away, but far be it for Christians to be the ones to
- 11:11tear down their Jewish brothers and sisters, the ones that God
- 11:18has a very peculiar love for. Far be it from us to think that
- 11:28God is done with those people He loves, the nation Israel.
- 11:35He is for the nation Israel. They are His chosen people and
- 11:41we are the wild branches grafted in to the natural.
- 11:46They are the natural friends and we should count it as joy that
- 11:52somehow, in some way, us Gentiles have been grafted in to
- 11:58the natural. But what you need to understand
- 12:01is there is a movement and an opposition against that nation
- 12:06and God is going to restore that nation to back to their original
- 12:15land that was given to them, their promised land as they were
- 12:20being LED out of the wilderness. And the borders will all be back
- 12:25to where they were. And it'll be during the thousand
- 12:27year reign of Christ on planet earth.
- 12:29And all the nations will flow in to Jerusalem to learn about
- 12:35Jesus Christ. He will be the supreme leader
- 12:38for the entire globe for 1000 years.
- 12:41And we would do well as we are waiting to make sure that we
- 12:46bless the Jews, we don't curse them, friends.
- 12:51And we need to know that there is a very interesting fact when
- 12:58it comes to the seven-year tribulation, that 3 1/2 years of
- 13:03the peace is going to be just for that little nation, Israel,
- 13:08so they can rebuild their temple.
- 13:11And then the Antichrist will rise up and demand to be
- 13:15worshipped in that very temple. And it's all playing out all
- 13:19around us that we need to have the lens of the word of God.
- 13:22There's so much garbage that is circling these days.
- 13:27There are so many people who are trying to pretend as if the Jews
- 13:33as a whole, from the lineage of Abraham, have been done away
- 13:40with in our yesterday's news. And far be it from us to fall
- 13:46for that propaganda and that trickery and the deception of
- 13:51the enemy. We need to know that God is
- 13:53still standing with the Jews, and we should be found standing
- 13:57with them as well. And here these disciples are
- 14:02wanting to know when is all of that going to happen and what
- 14:06does Jesus tell them? And he tells us the same thing
- 14:10Jesus says. 7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know
- 14:16the times or the seasons which the Father has put in his own
- 14:23power. So it's not for us to try to
- 14:26speculate. We just need to be found doing
- 14:29the work of God today and prophecy and eschatology is not
- 14:36just to satisfy the curious mind.
- 14:39We need to be practical in our approach with Jesus Christ.
- 14:43We need to be found putting our hand to the plow, friends.
- 14:46We need to be found going out into the harvest and snatching
- 14:51those that are dying and that are self destructing and self
- 14:56mutilating. We need to make sure that we're
- 14:59going out there into the highways and the hedges and
- 15:03inviting everyone in, friends, regardless of race, regardless
- 15:08of nationality, regardless of their religion, regardless of
- 15:14their skin tone, regardless of their language, regardless of
- 15:18any of our prejudiceness. We need to go out and we need to
- 15:24make sure that we're inviting every man, woman, and child into
- 15:29the Kingdom of God. Let's get off of our blessed
- 15:34assurance and let's run this race and finish well, Friends.
- 15:39A But you shall receive power after that.
- 15:43The Holy Ghost has come upon you, and you shall be witnesses
- 15:47unto me, both in Jerusalem and in all Judea and in Samaria and
- 15:53unto the uttermost parts of the earth.
- 15:55So we need to know that all of these little areas represent the
- 16:00whole world. But for these apostles, these
- 16:04messengers, the disciples, this would have been a hard saying
- 16:08because Jerusalem, they had just murdered their Messiah.
- 16:12And Judea and Samaria were hated because they were half breeds.
- 16:19And so you need to know that this they were they were from
- 16:25Galilee and Judea was a part that they had all separated
- 16:30from. And so Jesus is telling them,
- 16:33he's saying, get rid of all of your presuppositions and
- 16:39notions, get rid of all of the hatred in your heart, and go out
- 16:44and invite the whole world into the Kingdom.
- 16:46And what you're going to find is because the Jews are his
- 16:50peculiar chosen people, they have a very special place in the
- 16:54Kingdom of God. Their names are written on the
- 16:57foundations of New Jerusalem. 9 And when he had spoken these
- 17:03things while they beheld, he was taken up, and a cloud received
- 17:07Him out of their sight. This was the ascension, the
- 17:10bodily ascension of Jesus Christ into heaven.
- 17:15And He was the first born, and He was the second Adam.
- 17:19And here you can understand that Jesus Christ was appearing to
- 17:24them for 40 days. How amazing is it?
- 17:28You see so many instances in the word of God of these 40 days,
- 17:33this time period. And we know that this is how
- 17:37he's going to come back. 10 And while they look steadfastly
- 17:41towards heaven, as he went up, behold, 2 men stood by them in
- 17:46white apparel. We know these are angels, some
- 17:50have speculated it could be Moses and Elijah, but we know
- 17:54that they are there to help, to give the disciples the
- 18:02discernment and to help us for all time's sake to understand
- 18:06that Jesus will return in the same way and he's going to
- 18:09return to the Mount of Olives and go into the Eastgate.
- 18:13Friends 11 Which also said, You men of Galilee, why stand you
- 18:20gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus which is taken
- 18:25up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as you
- 18:29have seen Him go into heaven. What a promise for us.
- 18:34And the whole world will see him coming back with the Saints and
- 18:37all the angels. 12 They then returned they unto Jerusalem
- 18:44from the mount called Olives, which is from Jerusalem, a
- 18:48Sabbath day's journey. So here you can see that Jesus
- 18:53is coming back in his second advent the same way he left. 13
- 18:58And when they were come in, they went up into the upper room,
- 19:02where abode both Peter and James, and John, and Andrew,
- 19:07Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of
- 19:11Alphaeus, and Simon the Zealot, and Judas the brother of James.
- 19:16So here you can understand that they were obedient to Christ's
- 19:20words when he told him to go back into Jerusalem and wait on
- 19:23the Holy Ghost. And you can see here, look at
- 19:26all these beautiful names here. 14 These are all continued with
- 19:321 accord in prayer and supplication, with the women in
- 19:35Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.
- 19:38So verse 14, for the first time you can see all the disciples of
- 19:431 accord of one mind moving together as a unit. 15 And in
- 19:50those days, Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples and
- 19:53said the number of names together were about 120.
- 19:58So here they are, 120 disciples, the apostles in their midst, and
- 20:06Peter decides that he's going to be the leader.
- 20:10And that's not surprising. He was very impulsive in a lot
- 20:15of his ways. But we can thank Peter, because
- 20:18here we see the church capital C being birthed out of Peter's
- 20:23obedience. To take the lead and take the
- 20:27reins in the absence of the Lord Jesus Christ.
- 20:32What did he say to them? 16 Men, brothers, this Scripture
- 20:40must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the
- 20:44mouth of David spoke before concerning Judas, which was
- 20:49guide to them that took Jesus. We know this Judas Iscariot is
- 20:54the son of perdition. 17 for he was numbered with us, and had
- 21:00obtained part of this ministry. 18 Now this man purchased a
- 21:07field with the reward of iniquity, and falling headlong,
- 21:11he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.
- 21:16So Judas is trying to hang himself.
- 21:20Perhaps the rope snaps, he falls headlong, and his guts spill out
- 21:26on the ground. What's going to happen?
- 21:2919 And it was known unto all the dwellers at Jerusalem, in so
- 21:34much as that field is called in the proper tongue aklidama,
- 21:39which that is to say, the field of blood.
- 21:45So here his little 30 pieces of silver that he threw back at the
- 21:51priest when he said I've betrayed innocent blood.
- 21:55Here he's wrapped up with so much guilt that he goes and has
- 22:00a failed attempt of hanging himself and spills out on the
- 22:04ground. And then they buy the Potter's
- 22:07field, which is good for nothing but shards of pottery. 24 It is
- 22:17written in the book of Psalms. Let his habitation be desolate.
- 22:21Let no man dwell there in and his Bishop break.
- 22:26Let another take. 21 Wherefore of these men, which have company
- 22:31with us all the time, that the Lord Jesus went in and out among
- 22:35us? So here there was 120 of them
- 22:39numbered in the upper room at this moment.
- 22:42And Peter is saying, let's pick somebody who has been with us
- 22:47from the beginning, who has seen Jesus come and go.
- 22:50And this would have been a requirement to be an apostle.
- 22:55You would have had to actually live with the Lord and to
- 23:00actually see his earthly ministry.
- 23:02And they're saying, let's pick someone. 22 Beginning from the
- 23:11baptism of John unto that same day that he was taken up from
- 23:17us, must 1 be ordained to be a witness with us of his
- 23:21resurrection. That is, the purpose of an
- 23:23apostle is to be a witness, which is where we get the word
- 23:29martyr from. They were willing to die for
- 23:34what they had witnessed. When people tried to talk them
- 23:37down off the ledge and tried to get them to make out to be
- 23:42liars, they were willing to die for it.
- 23:45Are you willing to lay down your life for the gospel of Jesus
- 23:50Christ? I pray that you can say that you
- 23:52are. I pray that you count this life
- 23:55as nothing in comparison to the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ.
- 24:02Let's not be cowards and let's not shrink back.
- 24:05Let's not try to save our skin. Let's charge the hill for the
- 24:09king of kings and the Lord of Lords. 23 And they appointed to
- 24:17Joseph called Barsabbas, who was surnamed Justice, and Matthias.
- 24:2324 And they prayed and said, You, Lord, which knows the
- 24:28hearts of all men, show which of these two that you have chosen.
- 24:34They did well in this moment. They did not rely on their own
- 24:38understanding, but they went to the Lord, knowing that the Lord
- 24:45can control even the dice that land on the table.
- 24:48Do you have that amount of faith, friends?
- 24:51Do you know that He can cause your sandals in your clothing
- 24:54not to wear out for 40 years? Do you understand how the Lord
- 24:59works? Is your faith so increased that
- 25:02you can say to this mountain move and it'll move, Lay hands
- 25:06on people and heal the sick and heal the diseases and cast out
- 25:12all of the afflictions of the demonic over people?
- 25:16Friends, is your faith risen in your life or have you been
- 25:20dumbed down and numbed by the ways of this world, in the ways
- 25:24of Mammon? I pray that you will release all
- 25:29of yourself preservation and you will walk in the spirit, not
- 25:33satisfy the lust of the flesh. It's not by power and not by
- 25:37might, but by the Spirit of God that we can do these things,
- 25:42friends. And they knew that it was the
- 25:44Lord who could choose who He wanted, not who they thought.
- 25:50Not after looks, not after status, but it was that God
- 25:58knows the hearts of men, and He knew who He wanted for their
- 26:02names to be written on the foundations of New Jerusalem. 25
- 26:09that He may take part of this ministry, an apostleship from
- 26:13which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his
- 26:17own place. We know it would have been
- 26:20better for Judas to never have been born.
- 26:24We'll end on 26. And they gave forth their lots,
- 26:27and the lot fell upon Matthias, and he was numbered with the 11
- 26:34apostles. Here we are, the book of Acts.
- 26:41I hope that you had a blast going through Matthew, Mark,
- 26:45Luke, John. That is what all of the book of
- 26:50Acts is pointing back to. And as we move through the New
- 26:54Testament, everything is hinged upon those four books.
- 26:59And you might ask yourself, why in the world did we have 4 books
- 27:06that were pretty much telling the same story over and over and
- 27:10over and over? And as you study it, you're
- 27:13going to see nuances and details that one book leaves out and
- 27:18another one gives us. And they're all congruent and
- 27:21they all match up and they're beautiful.
- 27:24But it is like someone standing on four different St. corners
- 27:32and there is an accident that happens in the middle of the
- 27:35intersection. And each of those four people
- 27:39from those four different vantage points could all tell a
- 27:45different story of what they witnessed, even though it was
- 27:48the same accident. And that is what you will find
- 27:52with the Gospel of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John is that
- 27:57these four men are giving four different vantage points of the
- 28:03exact same man. And Jesus Christ is worth
- 28:08spending our entire life meditating upon.
- 28:12You will never go wrong with building your life on the chief
- 28:16cornerstone. And as we move through the book
- 28:20of Acts, what you're going to find is this is the Acts of the
- 28:25Holy Spirit moving mightily in the midst of the 1st century
- 28:29church. You're going to see it getting
