- 0:00Speaker 1: Now joining me in the studio right now is Al Fanning.
- 0:04Speaker 1: Al good morning to.
- 0:05Speaker 2: You, Good morning Katie, and happy International Women's Data all
- 0:09Speaker 2: those weeks out.
- 0:10Speaker 1: There, so many great women out here in the Northern Territory.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Thank you very much. And look, you're part of Territorians
- 0:18Speaker 1: Benefiting Territorians. It's not for profit association. It was started
- 0:22Speaker 1: by a few like minded Darwin locals.
- 0:24Speaker 2: A few years back.
- 0:26Speaker 1: And you sort of raise money for different charities and
- 0:29Speaker 1: different junior sporting groups and things like that, don't you.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Yeah, So we've started this a couple of years ago,
- 0:36Speaker 2: did a couple of little Pink Jacket days where we've
- 0:39Speaker 2: got some women down played golf and raised a few
- 0:41Speaker 2: money for some women who needed a little helping hand.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Then that moved on to junior girls' sport. We've done
- 0:46Speaker 2: that the last couple of years at Pee Wee's with
- 0:48Speaker 2: the lunch we've been doing and this year obviously we're
- 0:52Speaker 2: doing it for Dawn House. We try to get this
- 0:54Speaker 2: going before COVID happened, and obviously now COVID is out
- 0:58Speaker 2: of the way, we're doing it now for Dornus. That's
- 1:01Speaker 2: better late than never.
- 1:02Speaker 1: I reckon. That's awesome. It's a fantastic, fantastic initiative and
- 1:06Speaker 1: a fantastic thing that you guys do. Now tell me
- 1:08Speaker 1: when exactly is the lunch.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Happening on the thirty first of March. It's a Friday
- 1:14Speaker 2: afternoon at twelve thirty. As you all know, Pewe's doesn't
- 1:18Speaker 2: open for lunch very often, so it's a special chance
- 1:22Speaker 2: to go there and have lunch and enjoy the views
- 1:24Speaker 2: and talk to a like minded people and hopefully raise
- 1:27Speaker 2: a few dollars for a good cause and a service
- 1:30Speaker 2: that is provided in the Northern Chair that Dawn House does.
- 1:33Speaker 2: And a lot of people don't sort of probably understand
- 1:36Speaker 2: their capabilities and what they do do and how much
- 1:38Speaker 2: they do.
- 1:39Speaker 1: So they are obviously a women's shelter. They provide safe
- 1:42Speaker 1: and secure crisis accommodation for women with accompanying children, and
- 1:47Speaker 1: it does mean that people are able to escape domestic
- 1:50Speaker 1: violence in their homes or their community. It is incredibly
- 1:53Speaker 1: important work that they do, isn't it.
- 1:55Speaker 2: It's very important And I don't think there's any one
- 1:59Speaker 2: person who hasn't or doesn't know somebody who's actually suffered
- 2:02Speaker 2: from domestic violence or is currently going through the amount
- 2:07Speaker 2: of it you see in the Northern Territory is very
- 2:09Speaker 2: unfortunate unfortunately. Yeah, this is what we're trying to just
- 2:13Speaker 2: do a little bit to help and see where we
- 2:15Speaker 2: can help them out and hopefully make a little difference
- 2:17Speaker 2: to somebody's life. You just never know what it can do.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Yeah, you spot on, and I think any money that
- 2:22Speaker 1: you can raise at an event like this is obviously
- 2:25Speaker 1: a really good thing for the likes of Dawnhouse and
- 2:29Speaker 1: to be able to help them, to make sure that
- 2:31Speaker 1: they have got some additional funding or able to help
- 2:34Speaker 1: a family out that might be in need. Mate, So
- 2:37Speaker 1: talk us through what's going to happen at the lunch.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Obviously going to have spectacular food because Peewee's never disappoints
- 2:43Speaker 1: when it's the food front, do they know, They.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Never disappoint there and pull the chef head chef no
- 2:49Speaker 2: matter what, miror you get to get it the same
- 2:51Speaker 2: way any time, and it's always qualities. And Lily and
- 2:54Speaker 2: Simon have been very what do you call it like,
- 2:57Speaker 2: they're very helpful with having the lunch there that charges,
- 3:00Speaker 2: so we have it at the Pee Wee, so so'mon
- 3:04Speaker 2: nearly that's there that they do, so thank you for that. Yeah,
- 3:07Speaker 2: and like I said, we want as many people as
- 3:09Speaker 2: we can to get along and support. Obviously, we'll have
- 3:13Speaker 2: people talking, we'll have some auction items, we'll have a
- 3:16Speaker 2: couple of raffles. We're hoping to have a lady come
- 3:20Speaker 2: and speak about her journey yep, so that will probably
- 3:24Speaker 2: know it's going to be a bit raw, but you
- 3:25Speaker 2: know what, sometimes we've got to have these difficult discussions
- 3:28Speaker 2: just so people, yeah, understand, I.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Agree what exactly the issue is, but also to be
- 3:34Speaker 1: able to get a bit of an understanding of what
- 3:35Speaker 1: they're raising money for as well, Like I reckon, it's
- 3:37Speaker 1: really important. Al So, it's Friday, the thirty first of March,
- 3:41Speaker 1: so they've got a bit of time to get organized.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Where can they go to if they're keen to buy tickets?
- 3:46Speaker 2: Yep, So Pee Wee's have got on their Facebook, They've
- 3:48Speaker 2: got a link there. Territorians Benefit Territorians have a link
- 3:51Speaker 2: on their Facebook page as well, or you can just
- 3:54Speaker 2: contact Pee Wee's directly and they'll put you in the
- 3:57Speaker 2: right way there.
- 3:58Speaker 1: So ol, you must have a good committee for your
- 4:01Speaker 1: Territorians Benefiting Territorians as well, do you, mate?
- 4:05Speaker 2: I do. I'm very fortunate to have four and now
- 4:08Speaker 2: five lovely women who help me out. So I'm yemis
- 4:11Speaker 2: So they keep me in a straight and narrow and
- 4:13Speaker 2: just make sure I'm doing the right thing.
- 4:16Speaker 1: Is that a big job for them?
- 4:17Speaker 2: No? No, I try to make it well. They all
- 4:20Speaker 2: bang up me, so they make it pretty easy. I'll
- 4:22Speaker 2: tell you what I need to do.
- 4:23Speaker 1: I reckon this is such a good initiative, you know,
- 4:26Speaker 1: to actually just help different groups or different charities. And
- 4:30Speaker 1: I loved it. You know, it's a group of you.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Are you doing this off your own back? You're not
- 4:34Speaker 1: doing it for any sort of benefit of your own.
- 4:37Speaker 1: It is just to help other Territorians, which I reckon
- 4:39Speaker 1: is incredible.
- 4:40Speaker 2: Yep. Hundred percent of our time is volunteered. There's no admin,
- 4:44Speaker 2: there's no nothing. It's just us doing it after our
- 4:47Speaker 2: work day and making sure that we put some money
- 4:50Speaker 2: into someone's that allows them to have a better life. Yeah.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Ah, good on you. Al well. I really appreciate you
- 4:56Speaker 1: coming in this morning and having a chat with us,
- 4:58Speaker 1: and just a remind it to everybody out there listening.
- 5:00Speaker 1: If you do want some further detail about this lunch,
- 5:03Speaker 1: then is going to be happening. A long lunch at
- 5:05Speaker 1: Peeweez sounds fantastic, doesn't It sounds like something that everybody
- 5:09Speaker 1: wants to do on a fridayfo Surely you can head
