- 0:05It's Saturday night.
- 0:06It's about two weeks.
- 0:08I've lived here in Mexico City
- 0:13and I would say it has been 80.
- 0:17Percent to 85%.
- 0:19Great, good, great, whatever.
- 0:23But today, today, today, I felt lonely.
- 0:32I felt a deep expat loneliness
- 0:36that.
- 0:38One can only really feel when one is
- 0:41a relatively long away, away from, most people that you know,
- 0:48I don't remember feeling this in Korea I don't remember feeling that intense.
- 0:53A level of expat loneliness that I felt tonight or today rather in Korea,
- 1:00but maybe I did and I just forgot it because we always, you know, nostalgia
- 1:04is just like memory without the details.
- 1:08I really do love this place, this city, and I am always struck by the
- 1:15friendliness of the people that I meet,
- 1:19and my cynicism is like, oh, they just want me to come back to their
- 1:22restaurant, or they want me to come back to their bar or whatever.
- 1:25It's, but everybody in America or in the United States rather, I keep doing that.
- 1:31Everybody in the United States, all bars in the United States
- 1:32want, they want me to come back.
- 1:34The restaurants, they want you to come back
- 1:38in Mexico though.
- 1:40They really make you feel like you.
- 1:42Want to come back.
- 1:44And I don't think it's insincere.
- 1:47Maybe it is, I don't know.
- 1:48But it's a real friendliness that I really can't get enough of.
- 1:51And if, you know, I live here now, so when I tell PE, I mean people
- 1:56at the barn, they're expats.
- 1:57And then I tell 'em, I live here now.
- 1:59And they're like, whoa.
- 2:00And I wonder if part of.
- 2:09The niceness is because I'm an, they think I'm a tourist.
- 2:13Right.
- 2:16This is my cynicism talking.
- 2:17Right.
- 2:21But yesterday I needed a new spatula and I went to the market near me.
- 2:27This big market, I think it's Mein Market, I forget the name of it.
- 2:31I think it's Mein and.
- 2:34I had lunch at a place I was starving.
- 2:36Had lunch at a place in the middle of the market.
- 2:39Very nice woman works there and was basically like, you should
- 2:42have this and this and this.
- 2:44And I was like, alright, I trust you.
- 2:47And she was right.
- 2:48There was some taco that was, had a pepper.
- 2:50I mean, it was, it was legit.
- 2:53But while I'm eating, she comes over and checks on me.
- 2:55I don't speak Spanish very well at all.
- 2:57And I told her that, and she knows that, but she's still speaking in Spanish to
- 3:00me just because she, she's doing it.
- 3:02I appreciated that and I understood some of it, but at one point I was
- 3:06like, I needed a spatula 'cause I know spatula in the house for some reason.
- 3:10I have eggs, I have tortillas, and how do I turn these
- 3:13things over without a spatula?
- 3:14So.
- 3:15I asked her, how do I get a spatula
- 3:17I said, is there a spatula salesman in this market?
- 3:20And she's like, see, blah, blah, blah.
- 3:22I don't know what else you said.
- 3:24And so I finished eating and I paid my, bill and I start walking away and the
- 3:30woman comes up and she's like, I don't know what she said, hello or whatever,
- 3:35again, I really need to learn Spanish, but she said whatever it was, and I
- 3:38turned around and she's like, come, come.
- 3:40And so she takes me all the way across the market, a five minute
- 3:45walk, maybe 10 to show me where the special the sales are happening.
- 3:54I don't know, man.
- 3:55I don't know.
- 3:56You tell me.
- 3:58You tell me.
- 3:59And then I bought a spatula with, it was for like a barbecue grill it
- 4:03was not a spatula of four inside.
- 4:06It was a spatula for outside.
- 4:09And I bought it anyway because I felt obligated, because I
- 4:12had been walked all the way.
- 4:13She was gone.
- 4:13But whatever I felt obligated.
- 4:16So now I have the spatula that I have to literally stand like a foot and a
- 4:19half from the stove to, to flip over the, like it's, but the memories that it
- 4:26brings up are really what's important.
- 4:28I think it's not so much the difficulty in using the spatula,
- 4:33it's the memories that the spatula brings up in you that are important.
- 4:38And this spatula,
- 4:42this bachelor brings up solid.
- 4:44Solid memories of kindness of Mexican
- 4:47kindness.
- 4:50Yeah.
- 4:51I went to a yoga class this morning, my second yoga class here in Mexico City,
- 4:57and the first class was taught half in English, which was, and it was good.
- 5:02It was a good.
- 5:03You know, gentle sliding into the yoga world here, but this one was
- 5:08not, and I knew it wouldn't be.
- 5:10And that was okay.
- 5:13Anyway.
- 5:15This class was entirely in Spanish and it was interesting because you have, like,
- 5:20I've done a lot of yoga, so you know, basically what's gonna happen, you know?
- 5:25But there's some differences.
- 5:26Those of you who know me and yoga know that I am not a fan of the bolster.
- 5:34I find the bolsters to be disgusting.
- 5:38I know they don't wash those covers very often at all, and I know people
- 5:42are laying there, sweaty bodies all over those things, and I resist that.
- 5:48I do, I resist it.
- 5:51And if anybody disagrees with this, you're wrong.
- 5:54It's gross.
- 5:55I've talked to somebody who works at Yoga Studio and says that the covers don't
- 5:58get washed very often of those BOLs.
- 6:00So I'm right.
- 6:01I'm right.
- 6:04people do weird things with bolsters.
- 6:05There's all sorts of weird moves straddling, bolsters, like,
- 6:09what are we getting into here?
- 6:11If that's not being cleaned, like I'm not a germaphobe, but that's gross.
- 6:16That's gross.
- 6:18I'm sure there's, you know, bacterial scientists out there who would be
- 6:23like, well, this isn't even the worst.
- 6:26You shouldn't just, I mean, look at the handle of this thing you
- 6:29just touched, but I don't care.
- 6:31I don't wanna know your school learning stuff.
- 6:34I just wanna know what I feel and what I feel is that a bolster is disgusting.
- 6:40If you're gonna have a thing like a bolster in any kind of a thing, like
- 6:45yoga, even basketball, baseball, whatever, a bolster adjacent thing,
- 6:50you need to clean that cover.
- 6:54Like all the time for me to be okay with that.
- 6:59But again, call me a prude.
- 7:00I haven't washed the sheets that I've gotten here.
- 7:03I've been here two weeks.
- 7:04I haven't washed them once.
- 7:06I'm gonna do it tomorrow.
- 7:08I will, when I was in Columbus, did it every week, clockwork.
- 7:12It was like every weekend, changing the sheets.
- 7:14Now I'm just like, I don't fucking care.
- 7:16I don't care.
- 7:19They're not that dirty.
- 7:22Then you read some article on the internet that's like, how often
- 7:25should you really wash your sheets?
- 7:27And it's almost always like once a week I think this is part of the reason
- 7:30I moved to Mexico City is because.
- 7:33I wanted to be out of the realm of articles that are like, how
- 7:37often should you wash your sheets?
- 7:39I almost clicked on an article a couple, was it yesterday in the New York Times?
- 7:43It was like the wire cutters picks for best products of the year, and I'm just
- 7:48like almost clicked on it instinctually.
- 7:51'cause I like the wire cutter.
- 7:52I trust it, but I didn't because I'm like, what am I doing?
- 7:57You just got rid of.
- 7:58So much stuff and you're like, oh, but what's the best
- 8:01new stuff that I could have?
- 8:04Uh, I did buy a new shower head today because the shower head here
- 8:09in this apartment is untenable, and it was, it's like $20.
- 8:13So.
- 8:14You know what?
- 8:15I'll leave it here.
- 8:15I'm like, uh, Johnny Apples sea of shower heads.
- 8:18You know, I, everywhere I go, I upgrade shower heads.
- 8:21I've upgraded many girlfriends shower heads, and, and I've
- 8:26upgraded several apartment and house shower heads just left them.
- 8:30I'm not Who's gonna bring a shower head with them?
- 8:32They're not expensive.
- 8:35A shower head is an upgrade in your life that most people don't realize is.
- 8:39A solid, solid upgrade.
- 8:42I remember I was dating this one woman and I, the first time
- 8:45I took a shower at her house.
- 8:46I was like, like thinking like, what on earth?
- 8:49This is not even a shower head.
- 8:51I don't even know how to describe it.
- 8:53It was not a spray even, it was just like a, like a. Strangely
- 8:58shaped jet of water at my person.
- 9:04So I got her a new shower head.
- 9:05And I mean, women, I don't think care about Showerheads because, or maybe it's
- 9:09just me that cares about Showerheads.
- 9:10But another girlfriend got her a new shower head, changed her life,
- 9:14got her daughters under shower head, changed their life, one that
- 9:18could be used to clean their dog.
- 9:20Look at me.
- 9:22So anyway, I bought a new shower head for this place.
- 9:25The only issue that I'm gonna have is like, I don't have a wrench,
- 9:28so I don't know how I'm gonna install that, so I might have to
- 9:31buy a wrench too, but whatever.
- 9:33It's worth it.
- 9:35Like a bidet, a shower head is an upgrade that most people don't realize they
- 9:40wanted or needed until they have it.
- 9:42And then they're like, how did I ever live without this?
- 9:45All right.
- 9:46I think that's all for now.
- 9:47It is.
- 9:48It is all for now.
- 9:50it's Sunday night, and it's been a bit of a tricky weekend.
- 9:53It's been like the weekend of, of, inevitable
- 9:59feelings of isolation and, and loneliness and like.
- 10:06Honestly, like shock in a way of like, what, what, what am I doing?
- 10:12Or what have I done?
- 10:15Which is inevitable, you know?
- 10:16it's part of the, part of the path, right?
- 10:18It's part of getting outta that comfort zone.
- 10:20It's the discomfort, you know?
- 10:22But I have only been here two weeks and I do have people here, you know?
- 10:26so it's not as if I'm completely on my own out here as I was in
- 10:31Korea, and I don't know, looking back, I'm like, how did I do that?
- 10:34How did I have the tenacity at 29 years old to go to Korea by myself?
- 10:42Not knowing a single person there
- 10:46to teach English for two years, but I did and I made a lot of friends there.
- 10:50And by the time I left, I had a really good social life.
- 10:52So, so there it is.
- 10:55Um,
- 10:58Interestingly, the internet does not like me spelling my
- 11:03name with one F here in Mexico.
- 11:05I think perhaps because JEF means.
- 11:09Boss.
- 11:10Well, JEFE means boss.
- 11:13El Jefe.
- 11:15That's the only reason I can think of that
- 11:17it would do it.
- 11:18'cause on Amazon it's, I mean, I've noticed it on several websites,
- 11:21like it's adding an F to my name and I've changed nothing.
- 11:26It's kind of puzzling, to be honest, this has never happened
- 11:30before in my entire life.
- 11:32It's like Mexico doesn't like m e spelling my name with one F. Maybe
- 11:36it's confusing their systems or something, but it comes and goes too.
- 11:39Like sometimes I'll go onto Amazon or whatever site.
- 11:41It'll be like two F Jeff and sometimes it'll be one F. So
- 11:45anyway, an interesting little, I don't know, thing that I noticed.
- 11:48And another thing, you know, people talk about, I think the
- 11:52dogs in Mexico City, Los Perros.
- 11:56And it really is a thing.
- 11:57There are lots of dogs in Mexico City, and I like dogs, but in my
- 12:02building in which they're, I think five apartments, I think maybe six,
- 12:08two of them I believe have dogs.
- 12:10And sometimes they're great.
- 12:12But sometimes they bark a lot.
- 12:15They bark a lot.
- 12:16And, You know, it's pretty sturdy, thick wall apartment
- 12:19building, so it's not terrible.
- 12:22But sometimes it is and it's really annoying.
- 12:24But
- 12:25yeah, there's a lot of dogs here.
- 12:28There's a park, where there's just like a whole dog park there.
- 12:30A huge dog park and you can go there and watch the dogs play for hours.
- 12:34Super fun.
- 12:36That's a magical park.
- 12:37It's the park in Condesa, the, the park in Condesa with the art
- 12:42deco and the meditation areas.
- 12:44Anyway, great Park.
- 12:45I'll wrap up with this.
- 12:47The way my hot water works, and I think a lot of people's hot
- 12:50water works in Mexico is puzzling.
- 12:54there's water heaters, of course, but they're different than the ones in the
- 12:58US and I'm not entirely sure how or why they're different, but when I stayed
- 13:06at Patricia's, hers was definitely.
- 13:09Strange.
- 13:10You could like hear it making a noise when it was on, but it was always kind of
- 13:14haphazard to whether you would necessarily get very hot water in her shower.
- 13:19Here, I'll get hot water in the shower.
- 13:23The knobs reversed.
- 13:25In fact, every one of my faucets, it's kind of a crapshoot.
- 13:29I should put letters because some, like, I think the kitchen one has
- 13:32the wrong side is hot and whatever.
- 13:36Anyway.
- 13:37The hot water for some reason comes from this courtyard that's like in, you
- 13:43know, it's more like a shaft, right?
- 13:45That's in the area.
- 13:47Like my bathroom overlooks it and it goes all the way down to the
- 13:50bottom of the apartment building.
- 13:52But when I turn my hot water off, it makes this giant slamming sound
- 13:57like two or three stories down in this little chasm or whatever.
- 14:03And it's loud.
- 14:04Like at first I didn't know what it was, but then I think the owner of
- 14:09this place came and told me, or his son said that that's the hot water.
- 14:14And I don't know if that's how it's supposed to sound, but the other night.
- 14:18I went in to wash my face before I went to bed, and I turned the
- 14:22hot water on to wash my face and it was, I don't know, 1130 or 12.
- 14:27And you know, I turned it off and there was a, you know, the giant banging sound.
- 14:30And then I heard something, somebody stirring in one of the apartments below
- 14:34me and I thought, oh, did I just wake this person up because I turned off that water?
- 14:39That's weird, right?
- 14:44And when I moved into this place the hot water tap in the
- 14:49bathroom sink was turned off.
- 14:51And I'm wondering if it was because it was disturbing the people below.
- 14:54I don't know.
- 14:55But they turned it back on.
- 14:57And then I started thinking, was this person below me hate me?
- 15:00'cause I'm always using the hot water and it's making the slamming sound.
- 15:02I don't think anybody else's hot water makes a slamming sound like this.
- 15:06I don't know.
- 15:07I don't know what the story is there.
- 15:08Very strange.
- 15:11One more thing actually.
- 15:13I still have yet to take my garbage out.
- 15:17The landlord took it out once, I think, 'cause I couldn't possibly.
- 15:20But yeah, I've got like a bag of garbage I've gotta take out.
- 15:22And the way the garbage works is, I think I said, is you hear this dinging
- 15:25bell and then you go out and take your garbage out and give them money.
- 15:28But like I've heard this dinging bell so many times.
- 15:31And then I look out the window, which looks out to the street, and I
- 15:34don't see any garbage truck anywhere.
- 15:38And I don't want to go out with a bag of garbage, just wandering around like
- 15:40an idiot looking for a garbage truck.
- 15:42Like it's confusing, and I think it was Saturday all day I heard bells and
- 15:49I'm like, where is the garbage truck?
- 15:51So I never, I never threw it away that yesterday.
- 15:54Today though.
- 15:55I heard it again and then I look out and there is the garbage truck like
- 15:59flying by, like not even slowing down.
- 16:02Like how is a person supposed to get out there fast enough to like, I don't know.
- 16:07I'm sure there's a system to this.
- 16:09I don't quite understand it yet, but it's weird and once I get the hang
- 16:13of it, I'm sure I'll love it because you know, there's no garbage cans in
- 16:16the streets and that's great, but.
- 16:18Right now I gotta get this garbage out and like I'm in my place to send for ringing
- 16:22bells all the time and looking around like a, like a paranoid schizophrenic.
- 16:25Like, oh, there's the bells.
- 16:27The bells.
- 16:28Yeah.
- 16:31Like c chalk that up under, like, one of the things I did not expect to, be
- 16:36different or difficult when I came to Mexico City, but you know, you never know.
- 16:42Also food goes bad much quicker because there's not as many preservatives in it.
- 16:52Sleep tight American, sleep tight.
- 16:54United States have a good time.
- 16:56Enjoy your mega processed foods.
- 16:58Seriously, the bananas go like, there's nothing in bananas, but the bananas
- 17:02here even, even go right faster.
- 17:04So maybe 'cause it's closer, I don't know what they do.
- 17:07Maybe they do something to American Bananas or United States bananas,
- 17:09which is a whole nother thing.
- 17:10What do I call myself?
- 17:11American.
- 17:14Okay.
- 17:15I gotta go to bed or no.
- 17:16What I need to do is I need to prepare to go to bed.
- 17:25It's interesting when you move to another country, the people who you
- 17:29least expect to hear from, like you least expect to get a phone call or
- 17:35FaceTime from are the people that you end up like, and it's not a bad thing.
- 17:39It's actually kind of wonderful because it's like, oh,
- 17:44I'm so glad that this person, I did not have any expectation.
- 17:48Like some people you expect right?
- 17:51Then oftentimes, not oftentimes, but sometimes they will
- 17:55let you down in that way.
- 17:57Like the people that you most expect to keep in touch with are the ones
- 18:00that often don't, but then the ones that you don't expect to even hear
- 18:04from again, are the ones that you,
- 18:09and that's beautiful, really.
- 18:10In a way.
- 18:12There's something lovely about it.
- 18:14There's also something to be said for like, you never know
- 18:16who really cares about you.
- 18:20I went to Walmart today.
- 18:23Walmart Express is what they call these smaller Walmarts that
- 18:28they have here in Mexico City.
- 18:32I hate Walmart.
- 18:33I hate the concept of it.
- 18:34I hate everything about it.
- 18:36Everybody does, right?
- 18:37Of course.
- 18:39The last time I was in a Walmart was in the United States of America,
- 18:43and this was Christmas circa,
- 18:49I don't know, 2002, 2003, and it was a last minute.
- 18:54Walmart was open till midnight or 24 hours, so it was like
- 18:57a last minute gift, like.
- 18:59Scramble and it was like Calcutta in there.
- 19:03No offense to Calcutta, of course I've never been, but I've
- 19:06heard and I've seen the videos.
- 19:07It seems very, you know, crowded and frantic.
- 19:10That's my comparison there.
- 19:11That's all.
- 19:13It was like Calcutta in that Walmart and, uh, but Calcutta with, rural white
- 19:20people, you know, like, you know, and me.
- 19:25Anyway.
- 19:26Walmart in Mexico City.
- 19:28It's somewhat similar, it's mostly Americans because Americans are like,
- 19:32oh, I recognize the name of Walmart.
- 19:35You know, it's like people who go to, uh, Applebee's in Times Square.
- 19:39Right?
- 19:39It's the same phenomenon, I think.
- 19:43Anyway, Walmart and it's overpriced.
- 19:46There was a tub of Faye yogurt, plain Faye yogurt, the larger tub.
- 19:53I think it was 2% or 5%, whatever it was, like $15.
- 20:00So I didn't buy that.
- 20:02Chobani was like a third of the price, but we can all be honest
- 20:08about Greek yogurt quality and say
- 20:10Chobani fucking sucks, there's a reason it's cheap.
- 20:13It's a low end Greek yogurt.
- 20:16I am not trying to get sponsorship from you.
- 20:17Chobani trying to get Faye money.
- 20:20Faye, I'm here for you if you need me to help you promote your product.
- 20:23I'm a big fan, not a big fan, but a fan Enough to, you know, my mom also,
- 20:30she loves your blueberry yogurt.
- 20:33She loves the, you know, the side by side thing.
- 20:35Big fan.
- 20:36So there's two family members who enjoy your yogurt and one has a podcast.
- 20:41So you tell me what we should do next.
- 20:43Faye.
- 20:45Or is it Fge?
- 20:47Or is it faggy?
- 20:49Oof.
- 20:50I think it's Faye.
- 20:51It's gotta be, I think it says in the container, doesn't it?
- 20:53It's pronounced Faye.
- 20:55Because I bet they had like a PR problem.
- 20:57People would be like, gimme some of that Faggy yogurt.
- 21:00And they're like, uh, we should put a little, you know, somebody in marketing.
- 21:04It's like, what if we put a little bitty note that says how to
- 21:07pronounce the name of the yogurt?
- 21:10'cause it is a confusing word, sir. CEO, whatever.
- 21:14Anyway.
- 21:14Walmart, I did buy yogurt.
- 21:16Chobani, the cheap shit.
- 21:18What else did I get?
- 21:19Oh, fabric softener.
- 21:21But I dunno if I'm gonna use that.
- 21:23I don't know if I'll use that.
- 21:25I don't really understand.
- 21:27Liquid fabric softener, to be honest, I don't get it.
- 21:31I've never used it in my life, but I feel like the circumstance that
- 21:35I'm in with no dryers, I think this is what it's for, isn't it?
- 21:40I guess we'll find out.
- 21:41'cause I got a big bottle of fabric softener now, liquid fabric
- 21:45softener, and I cannot wait to.
- 21:49Put in the compartment on the washing machine.
- 21:52On the roof of my apartment building.
- 21:56And yes, I'll be honest, I did feel somewhat dirty and disgusting
- 22:01shopping at Walmart in Mexico City.
- 22:05There's a lot of Walmarts in Mexico City is the thing.
- 22:09But in this Walmart, it was not a big Walmart.
- 22:12It was a Walmart Express.
- 22:13It was smaller and there were definitely like, it was half Americans
- 22:17or, well, no, I'll say Americans.
- 22:21Should we get the feta cheese?
- 22:23Should we get the feta?
- 22:24Did you get the feta cheese?
- 22:26Oh, there's not a lot of salads here.
- 22:28Mm. Look at all the tortillas.
- 22:32Oh my God.
- 22:34Do you wanna get some salsa?
- 22:36Let's get some salsa.
- 22:40Uh, oh my God.
- 22:42The yogurt's $15.
- 22:44Oh my God.
- 22:47Oh, they sell tequila Here.
- 22:48Look, honey, let's get some tequila.
- 22:51Okay.
- 22:52That's all.
- 22:54But I was there.
- 22:55I was amidst it.
- 22:56I just didn't speak.
- 22:58I just remained silent throughout the experience until the very end when I
- 23:01said, you know, grass, yes, for the guy to bag my groceries or whatever.
- 23:08It's difficult moving to a country that you don't really speak the language.
- 23:14And I am going to, I mean, I have to find a language teacher.
- 23:17It's just, there's so many options.
- 23:18Number one, and I don't wanna do virtual, but it seems like
- 23:22that's probably the way to do it.
- 23:23Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 23:25Who cares?
- 23:26Nobody cares what you're talking about.
- 23:28Jeff.
- 23:28This is stupid.
- 23:29Talk about Mexico City.
- 23:30Don't talk about your dumb language lessons.
- 23:32Well, I'll talk about the fact that it's 1130 and I have to go to
- 23:35bed because I have to get up early because I've got a cleaning person
- 23:39coming tomorrow, and I thought,
- 23:44when I've gotten cleaning people in the United States, they bring all their own
- 23:47stuff, the vacuum cleaner, all the things they bring, all that, all that crap.
- 23:51But apparently here they do not.
- 23:53They rely on you to have all the stuff, which I suppose
- 23:56is why it's so inexpensive.
- 23:58But I don't have all that stuff.
- 24:01Like I don't, I don't have a mop, I don't think, you know, I
- 24:04don't have a broom or anything.
- 24:06There's some spray bottles under the sink that are just unlabeled,
- 24:09so I don't know what that is.
- 24:10Who knows?
- 24:11Maybe you can tell by the color.
- 24:13I don't know.
- 24:15But.
- 24:17When I found out that I needed to have all this stuff, I kind of panicked this
- 24:20afternoon and I was like, what do I do?
- 24:22So I like messaged patric.
- 24:23I was messaging the, cleaning lady.
- 24:26I'm like, do I need to have this stuff?
- 24:28Like, how do I get this stuff?
- 24:29I'm having trouble getting rid of my garbage at this point.
- 24:32So like trying to get all this stuff is like a lot, it's a lift because I
- 24:38still haven't gotten rid of the garbage.
- 24:40I'm hoping that.
- 24:41The cleaning people will get rid of the garbage, some magic of some sort.
- 24:44They'll just be like, boom, it'll be gone.
- 24:47That would be amazing to me I had to buy new garbage bags because one of
- 24:52the garbage bags that's been in the hallway for about a week and a half now.
- 24:56I picked it up and it had been leaking, so there's like a leak on the floor.
- 24:59So that's gotta be cleaned up by the cleaning people tomorrow.
- 25:02Of course.
- 25:02Am I right?
- 25:03At least I got something to do, but again, I have no mop.
- 25:05So how are they gonna do that on their hands and knees?
- 25:07No, they're not gonna do anyway.
- 25:10Uh, it was leaking, so I thought, well, I have to get new bags, but I had
- 25:13bought garbage bags already, but I had bought the wrong size, you know, small.
- 25:18Garbage bag black in Mexico City is much smaller than small in Amer United States.
- 25:26So I got large and the large garbage bags are about the size of the mediums.
- 25:30I guess this is a thing, you know, like a large drink in Mexico City is
- 25:35like a small in America, and that's why everybody in America is so obese.
- 25:41Because portion sizes are so large.
- 25:47I don't know.
- 25:48I don't know.
- 25:49Anyway, here I am in Mexico City.
- 25:52I've been here for 15 or 16 days and I'm doing well.
- 25:58All things considered.
- 26:00I'm doing better than I thought I would be doing at this point.
- 26:04So that's good.
- 26:05And that's the end of this dispatch.
- 26:09I ran the name by AI and AI said that dispatch was a
- 26:12bad word for the name of it.
- 26:14I was like, fuck you ai.
- 26:16Fuck you, Claude.
- 26:18Claude was like, your name is too boring.
- 26:21I don't know what the word was.
- 26:22It used, but basically it was like boring.
- 26:23And then it was like, call it Mexico City Notes.
- 26:27And I'm like, you think that's not boring?
- 26:29That's the lamest name I've ever heard in my life.
- 26:31So that was a good time.
- 26:35That was a good time.
- 26:36Why do I get so angry at artificial intelligence?
- 26:41I'm not the only one.
- 26:42You know who you are.
- 26:43You know, you've all gotten pissed off at it and gotten in
- 26:45a dumb argument with a computer.
- 26:48You're lying.
- 26:49You have, you have,
- 26:51I try to catch my AI in lies and I'm like, what am I doing with my life?
- 26:56What am I doing this for?
- 26:57There's no winner here at all.
- 27:00There's only a big, big, big fat loser.
- 27:03And that loser is me.
- 27:05That loser is Jef Taylor living in Roma, sir, here in Mexico City.
- 27:09He's in Mexico City and he's inside his apartment arguing
- 27:13with an artificial intelligence.
- 27:15What are you doing, Jef?
- 27:17What on earth are you doing
- 27:20is an adjustment period.
- 27:21It's adjustment.
- 27:23And before I go, I really wanna tell you, I'll put a picture in the Patreon of
- 27:29this, the ceiling light fixtures in the bedrooms of my apartment are so bizarre.
- 27:38They're very out of place.
- 27:40There was a joke I had years ago with a friend of mine about having like
- 27:44a person who was totally into like nautical theme, like had a whole house.
- 27:47It was nautical theme with like, you know, fucking anchors and big old steering
- 27:53wheels and whatever else, and rope.
- 27:55Anyway, these ceiling lights in this apartment are a nautical theme for sure.
- 28:02It's rope, it's like, you know, big, thick rope with bulbs, but nothing else.
- 28:09The entire apartment is nautical, adjacent even.
- 28:18And that's all.
- 28:19That's all I'm gonna say this week.
- 28:24Uh, what an ending though.
- 28:25Talking about the old light fixtures.
- 28:28Good stuff.
- 28:29Good stuff.
- 28:29Jef.
- 28:31This episode's called Light Fixtures.
- 28:34And if there's a light fixture company that would like me to sponsor, I'd
- 28:39be happy to help you, especially if your name is Light Fixtures.
- 28:42If there's a company out there called Light Fixtures that actually sells
- 28:46light fixtures, absolutely reach out.
- 28:50My phone number is in the show notes.
- 28:52There's also an email, onefjefpod@gmail.com.
- 28:57Light fixtures.
- 28:58I'm a big fan.
- 29:01I gotta go.
- 29:01I gotta go see if lightfixtures.com is taken.
- 29:06I'll see you next week.
