- 3:00Speaker 1: our guest today. We have got the legend Heisman Trophy winner.
- 3:07Speaker 1: Fantasy Football. God, by the way, when you when you
- 3:09Speaker 1: bounce back, I think it was two thousand and nine, yep, oh, man,
- 3:12Speaker 1: I picked you up off Waivers. Was going fucking crazy,
- 3:15Speaker 1: Ricky Williams this year, welcome man, two thousand and nine.
- 3:20Speaker 1: I remember that year very specifically because it was the
- 3:22Speaker 1: first year I ever played Fantasy and I picked you
- 3:24Speaker 1: up off Waivers and that was that the year that
- 3:27Speaker 1: the Wildcat was going crazy, was like Ronnie Brown and you.
- 3:30Speaker 1: And it was a year after and Ronnie got hurt.
- 3:33Speaker 1: So I was having a pretty good year. And then
- 3:35Speaker 1: Ronnie went down towards the end of the year and
- 3:37Speaker 1: I got a chance to start. And my first start
- 3:39Speaker 1: was Thursday night against the Panthers the year. Three touchdowns
- 3:44Speaker 1: that game, and I ran for over one hundred yards,
- 3:46Speaker 1: and I think I went three straight hundred yard games.
- 3:50Speaker 1: I remember. Yeah. Yeah, it's crazy because I remember as
- 3:54Speaker 1: a kid. I was never ever as a as a kid,
- 3:57Speaker 1: I never was big into college football, but I remember
- 4:01Speaker 1: you because you were like a cultural phenom when you
- 4:05Speaker 1: were at Texas, like you won the Heisman Trophy. And
- 4:09Speaker 1: I specifically remember that Sports Illustrated cover when you went
- 4:12Speaker 1: to the NFL was was it was a union Mike Dica? Yeah, yeah,
- 4:17Speaker 1: I remember, like that was just just liken iconic moment
- 4:20Speaker 1: that I always remember as a kid, like you had
- 4:24Speaker 1: such a crazy year or a crazy career. But you know,
- 4:27Speaker 1: with where the NFL has moved, when when it comes
- 4:30Speaker 1: to testing weed, do you feel like you kind of
- 4:31Speaker 1: had to take like you kind of took a lot
- 4:34Speaker 1: of bullets for everybody when it came to the weed. Shit.
- 4:37Speaker 1: I mean that's not that wasn't the plan, but I
- 4:40Speaker 1: think looking back, yeah I did, and only because I
- 4:44Speaker 1: was really the first person to tell the truth about it,
- 4:48Speaker 1: because I mean, it was strange when I started, when
- 4:51Speaker 1: I got put in trouble for smoking. You know, I
- 4:55Speaker 1: wasn't even a real smoker. I just it was just
- 4:58Speaker 1: bad timing. There were dudes on the team that were
- 5:00Speaker 1: real smokers, and you know, but nobody knew for me
- 5:05Speaker 1: because I was I was one of the top players,
- 5:07Speaker 1: and because it was made public, and then when I
- 5:09Speaker 1: was put on the spot, I didn't lie about it.
- 5:12Speaker 1: You know, it became a story and it was funny.
- 5:15Speaker 1: What I've realized is it gave people, especially back then
- 5:18Speaker 1: this is you know not now in California. Back then,
- 5:20Speaker 1: it gave people an excuse to say weed, or to
- 5:23Speaker 1: say marijuana, or to give people an excuse to talk
- 5:26Speaker 1: about it. So you just started seeing people having more
- 5:29Speaker 1: conversations of something that was kept you know, we don't
- 5:32Speaker 1: talk about this. We were talking about Now everybody was
- 5:35Speaker 1: talking about it, And I think that's really what's helped,
- 5:38Speaker 1: is that it just started the conversation. Yeah, I think
- 5:42Speaker 1: you know, back then we all remember it was it
- 5:45Speaker 1: was it was you know, weed was in the same
- 5:48Speaker 1: conversation as people who'd be doing cocaine or like just
- 5:51Speaker 1: the idea of smoking weed and being leveeled or trouble maker.
- 5:54Speaker 1: It's like crazy, you know what I mean. Did you
- 5:57Speaker 1: find that because back when you were in the NFL
- 6:01Speaker 1: BRO when you first got drafted, concussions weren't a thing.
- 6:05Speaker 1: I'm sure you know, taking as many shots to get
- 6:07Speaker 1: you out on the field was very normalized. Putting you
- 6:10Speaker 1: on as many painkillers was very normalized. There wasn't. We
- 6:13Speaker 1: weren't as aware of, you know, the addictive effects of
- 6:16Speaker 1: all these things. And weed to me is like the
- 6:19Speaker 1: anti inflammatory. That's like, you know, for any sport, but
- 6:24Speaker 1: really for football, it should be pushed to the players.
- 6:27Speaker 1: I mean, that's that's what I believe from my own
- 6:31Speaker 1: experience of being an NFL player, not just playing myself,
- 6:34Speaker 1: but also being around other guys and seeing what happened
- 6:36Speaker 1: to the guys that you know, they live off taking
- 6:39Speaker 1: shots and drinking beer with their Viking and that's their
- 6:42Speaker 1: their pain regimen. And we know what that does to
- 6:44Speaker 1: people over a long period of time, people that we
- 6:48Speaker 1: used to have to take these indocents what they are called,
- 6:51Speaker 1: and we used to have to take them the night
- 6:53Speaker 1: before before practice. Yeah, because if you didn't take it,
- 6:56Speaker 1: you know, you went out to practice and you felt
- 6:58Speaker 1: like you were eighty five years old. But if you
- 7:00Speaker 1: took innocent, it's an insight. It's like just a really
- 7:03Speaker 1: strong ibuprofriend. And if you and if we took it,
- 7:07Speaker 1: I mean, if you didn't take it, you feel like
- 7:09Speaker 1: eighty five. If you took it, you feel like you're
- 7:10Speaker 1: twelve years old. Was this something that was is still around? Yeah? They,
- 7:14Speaker 1: I mean they give it out. So it's it's standard
- 7:17Speaker 1: when you get into the NFL. The first time you
- 7:19Speaker 1: know about yeah, you get everybody or the tortof shot, right.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Everybody in the NFL knows about this because it's a
- 7:25Speaker 1: lifesaver and and that's what that's what was the norm.
- 7:29Speaker 1: And for me, I remember one day I was sitting
- 7:30Speaker 1: in the training room and I was seeing guys come
- 7:32Speaker 1: in one by one to get their tourt all shot.
- 7:35Speaker 1: And I was thinking, if we're doing this for our
- 7:38Speaker 1: whole careers, we're having to get shots, what is this
- 7:40Speaker 1: going to do to our bodies? And then I kind
- 7:43Speaker 1: of took a challenge on to myself. I said, I
- 7:44Speaker 1: want to see how long I can go and the
- 7:46Speaker 1: season without without having to do that. And I started
- 7:50Speaker 1: smoking a little bit, and I was in the drug program,
- 7:52Speaker 1: so I had to like measure it out. You know.
- 7:54Speaker 1: I could take two hits the night, you know, the
- 7:56Speaker 1: day after I got tested and still be fine. And
- 7:59Speaker 1: so I found that that worked. I did a little
- 8:00Speaker 1: extra stretching, you know, just was more in touch with
- 8:04Speaker 1: my body and I didn't have to take those those medicines.
- 8:06Speaker 1: And so I learned from myself that cannabis was better
- 8:10Speaker 1: for me than how long did you did you go
- 8:12Speaker 1: the whole year where her having to take one of
- 8:13Speaker 1: these I had to take. I had to take one
- 8:15Speaker 1: in the second to last game of the season. But
- 8:17Speaker 1: that was it. What year was that? This was two
- 8:19Speaker 1: thousand and uh, this two thousand and three when I
- 8:22Speaker 1: led the NFL and carries I carried them almost four
- 8:25Speaker 1: hundred times. That's crazy, man, It's crazy when you look
- 8:29Speaker 1: at your stats, right, and I believe you're like around
- 8:32Speaker 1: top thirty and rushing, Like to think like what your
- 8:37Speaker 1: stats would have been had none of this bullshit happened,
- 8:40Speaker 1: had you not had to have gone and played in
- 8:42Speaker 1: Canada for a year, like you know, like it's crazy
- 8:45Speaker 1: because in O nine, we're talking about O nine, like
- 8:48Speaker 1: people counted you out by then. Yeah, especially in running
- 8:52Speaker 1: back years. Yeah, yeah, and it's like this guy bounced back,
- 8:56Speaker 1: And do you ever do you ever have any regret
- 8:59Speaker 1: about how things played out? You know the main thing
- 9:03Speaker 1: for me, I think the reason I don't have any
- 9:05Speaker 1: regrets is because I got over the ten thousand yard mark.
- 9:08Speaker 1: That was something that was important for me to say,
- 9:11Speaker 1: Okay that my time playing football on the field in
- 9:14Speaker 1: the NFL wasn't wasted because I accomplished something. And yeah,
- 9:18Speaker 1: and I did it in eleven seasons and one of
- 9:20Speaker 1: those seasons only lasted a quarter because I tore my peck.
- 9:23Speaker 1: So essentially I almost average one thousand yards a season.
- 9:26Speaker 1: And considering I didn't start for half my career, and
- 9:29Speaker 1: considering I was out for a year, then back in,
- 9:31Speaker 1: then out for a year, and then back in then
- 9:33Speaker 1: out for a year and back in that I feel
- 9:36Speaker 1: like I did it and I did it my way,
- 9:38Speaker 1: and so I don't have any regrets. When you got
- 9:41Speaker 1: drafted to the Saints, what that that season? Who was
- 9:46Speaker 1: the quarterback is Jake Alone? And well, yeah, wow, Jake
- 9:49Speaker 1: Alone came on like that. He was like he was
- 9:51Speaker 1: a third string guy. Yeah, and he just came Wait
- 9:53Speaker 1: before we knew him with the pants. I went to
- 9:55Speaker 1: the Super Bowl exactly, he can't. He came in against
- 9:57Speaker 1: the Cowboys and beat a playoff bound Cowboy team. That
- 10:00Speaker 1: was really kind of his coming up party that year.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Who were you hoping to get drafted to the Browns?
- 10:07Speaker 1: The Browns? This is this is like the that was
- 10:11Speaker 1: was that the first year the Browns. They were back,
- 10:13Speaker 1: and they take Tim Couch. Took Tim Couch exactly. So
- 10:17Speaker 1: the first thing is is I wanted to be the
- 10:19Speaker 1: first player because I thought I deserved it. Too, you
- 10:22Speaker 1: were the best player in the draft, and too and too.
- 10:26Speaker 1: I felt like just who I was and the way
- 10:28Speaker 1: I played the game, it just fit well. Cleveland, Cleveland,
- 10:31Speaker 1: like it's a grimy town, like they would appreciate, like
- 10:34Speaker 1: Jim Brown was there exactly exactly. That was what I
- 10:38Speaker 1: was hoping for. It didn't work out. And then my
- 10:40Speaker 1: next My next was Indy because I thought it would
- 10:44Speaker 1: have been cool to play with with Peyton. No, no, no no,
- 10:46Speaker 1: My next was fit was was Philly, And because it
- 10:49Speaker 1: was the quarterback of Philly, it wasn't McNab wasn't. That's
- 10:51Speaker 1: who they drafted. So it was that year. So they
- 10:54Speaker 1: drafted mcnapp. That was it was. It was number two
- 10:56Speaker 1: that year. That was my second choice because Andy Reid.
- 11:00Speaker 1: I just loved the West Coast offense. I think, I'm
- 11:03Speaker 1: and it seems like you were right. He's been onto something. Yeah,
- 11:05Speaker 1: exactly exactly. I love that offense. And then third was
- 11:09Speaker 1: Indye played with Peyton and I got skipped past all
- 11:13Speaker 1: those and ended up in New Orleans. We don't remember
- 11:16Speaker 1: because if there's a lot of recent football fans who
- 11:19Speaker 1: who think the Saints are this perennial powerhouse, I know,
- 11:23Speaker 1: and when I was a kid, they were the worst.
- 11:25Speaker 1: It was. I always thought of the Saints and the
- 11:27Speaker 1: Bucks as the shittiest teams when I was a little kid.
- 11:30Speaker 1: This is before the Bucks had like like you know
- 11:32Speaker 1: up early nineties, mid nineties. Bucks were not good before
- 11:35Speaker 1: Tony Dunge you got there. Yeah, I always just thought
- 11:37Speaker 1: the Bucks and the fucking Saints like trash. So you
- 11:41Speaker 1: go to the Saints. Mike Dicka was he like he
- 11:44Speaker 1: seems like I've seen some of his interviews like recently,
- 11:48Speaker 1: he seems like not the best, like funnest guy to
- 11:51Speaker 1: play with or play for. Rather, how how was your guys'
- 11:54Speaker 1: dynamic because so he that seems like an act, but
- 11:58Speaker 1: but it's it's exactly the opposite it, you know, because
- 12:01Speaker 1: there are some coaches who never played, no, and so
- 12:05Speaker 1: I think sometimes they treat us like we're on a
- 12:08Speaker 1: Madden game or we're chess pieces. But the coaches that played,
- 12:12Speaker 1: you know, he's a real football guy. Yeah, they've been there,
- 12:15Speaker 1: and so he's a hard ass on the outside. But
- 12:18Speaker 1: but he's the most amazing, like coolest coach ever to
- 12:22Speaker 1: play for because he's been there before, you know, So
- 12:25Speaker 1: he yeah, So you know, our first preseason game my
- 12:29Speaker 1: rookie year, we played in Miami and we were in Lacrosse,
- 12:32Speaker 1: Wisconsin for our training camp, and so we played in
- 12:34Speaker 1: Miami and then we flew back and curfew was at
- 12:37Speaker 1: two o'clock, but we got in at like one, and
- 12:39Speaker 1: so we only had like twenty minutes at the bar.
- 12:41Speaker 1: So everyone ran to the bar and Dicker was in
- 12:43Speaker 1: the bar too, and he looked at his watch and
- 12:46Speaker 1: he said, curfew has moved back to four A, and
- 12:50Speaker 1: so he got he was probably hammered as well. Of course,
- 12:53Speaker 1: of course he was, but that's what I mean. He
- 12:55Speaker 1: was one of he was one of us and so
- 12:56Speaker 1: the guys go to war. They go to war for Yeah,
- 12:59Speaker 1: it is It's like I said, it's interesting that they
- 13:02Speaker 1: like when you got when you went there, did it
- 13:04Speaker 1: feel like there was like you always hear about places
- 13:06Speaker 1: have winning cultures, like places have losing cultures. You know,
- 13:10Speaker 1: we hear New England and and you know Pittsburgh, certain
- 13:14Speaker 1: franchises we always hear have that culture where things are expected,
- 13:18Speaker 1: and then we hear about the other the opposite end,
- 13:21Speaker 1: right Philly, right now, you know, like the Texans right now,
- 13:26Speaker 1: when you got to New Orleans, did you feel like
- 13:29Speaker 1: it was a losing culture. Yes, it felt like a
- 13:31Speaker 1: losing culture. And I'll tell you and I'll tell you why.
- 13:34Speaker 1: Because the winning cultures. I think the best example is
- 13:39Speaker 1: where the Patriots with Tom Brady is because there is
- 13:41Speaker 1: a there is a certain standard, and everyone fit that.
- 13:45Speaker 1: It was about that standard. It wasn't about one player,
- 13:47Speaker 1: it wasn't about it was about the standard. It's like
- 13:50Speaker 1: it's like they draft players to fit what they do,
- 13:52Speaker 1: not who's best, not who's the name. Exactly. In New
- 13:55Speaker 1: Orleans when I got there, they had a we had
- 13:57Speaker 1: a lot of really good players. We had a lot
- 13:59Speaker 1: of really good athletes and especially that first year. Who's
- 14:02Speaker 1: your who was your guys's wide receivers that year? Yeah,
- 14:05Speaker 1: we didn't have that many good receipts. Eddie Kennison, Andre Hastings,
- 14:10Speaker 1: no idea exactly. Okay, fair enough, I played for yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 14:15Speaker 1: so so yeah, so but we had we had but
- 14:21Speaker 1: those guys could fly, right, So we had athletes, but
- 14:24Speaker 1: we didn't have a team. Right. So then when I
- 14:26Speaker 1: came in, it wasn't like, let's rally around this rookie
- 14:29Speaker 1: and maybe we can get to the playoffs. It was like,
- 14:31Speaker 1: who does this guy think he is? You know, he's
- 14:33Speaker 1: got to prove himself and and that's part of it,
- 14:36Speaker 1: but but it just wasn't that that welcoming environment. And
- 14:40Speaker 1: but converse, when I got traded to the Dolphins, they've
- 14:43Speaker 1: been to the playoffs like for the past twelve years.
- 14:46Speaker 1: I mean, it stopped when I got there, but it
- 14:48Speaker 1: was a winning it was a winning environment, and when
- 14:50Speaker 1: I got there, it was that feeling of Okay, Chad,
- 14:53Speaker 1: Chad Pennington was still there when you got there, it
- 14:55Speaker 1: was it was Jay Fiedler was right, It was right.
- 14:59Speaker 1: No fielder Jay Feeley is a kicker, for the card.
- 15:02Speaker 1: It was right after it was right after Marino retired,
- 15:05Speaker 1: and then they brought they brought Jay. Tell me if
- 15:10Speaker 1: I'm wrong, what like, tell me what happened with the
- 15:13Speaker 1: running back in football? Because it went from being the
- 15:17Speaker 1: running back was the most popular player when I was
- 15:19Speaker 1: growing up. There's Barry Sanders and Emmitt Smith and you know, uh,
- 15:24Speaker 1: Terrell Davis and all these guys were the guys who
- 15:27Speaker 1: you almost like, when you would play Madden, you would
- 15:29Speaker 1: pick the best running back team, you know what I mean?
- 15:31Speaker 1: Because and somehow I feel like the NFL has made
- 15:36Speaker 1: running backs very disposable. It's like, you know, it feels
- 15:41Speaker 1: like they're the last guys to get paid when it's time.
- 15:44Speaker 1: When it's time time comes up for them to get
- 15:46Speaker 1: a contract, usually they'll it's that running back by committee
- 15:49Speaker 1: is a thing. Now, what do you think happened with
- 15:50Speaker 1: the position that because back then, when when you got drafted,
- 15:54Speaker 1: it was they expected you to carry the offense. Yeah,
- 15:58Speaker 1: you know, I think it's a couple of and you know,
- 16:01Speaker 1: my theory is the first thing is I think the
- 16:02Speaker 1: nature of coaches changed. I think when you had the
- 16:06Speaker 1: old school, like you know, Vince Lombardi style of the
- 16:08Speaker 1: coach like Ditka right there, play defense and run the
- 16:11Speaker 1: ball right, very conservative, smash mouth football. And then you
- 16:15Speaker 1: started having you know, these intellectual, smart coaches like the
- 16:21Speaker 1: guy Arizona right, and so they start scheming right, and
- 16:24Speaker 1: it's yeah, and it's more fun to scheme a passing
- 16:27Speaker 1: game and throwing the It's more exciting, right to scheme
- 16:30Speaker 1: a passing game and throw and throwing the ball around
- 16:32Speaker 1: than it is to scheme a run game and turn
- 16:34Speaker 1: it in the hand the ball. That's part of it.
- 16:37Speaker 1: The other part is running backs, especially the old way.
- 16:40Speaker 1: You know, we took a pounding and it just you
- 16:43Speaker 1: couldn't depend on a running back. You can't even think
- 16:45Speaker 1: of like like when you said you had the balls
- 16:47Speaker 1: carry about four hundred times and so yeah, you can't
- 16:50Speaker 1: even think about it. Yeah, So so that doesn't last long.
- 16:53Speaker 1: And also, I think running backs, even though I think
- 16:56Speaker 1: it's the most skilled position because you have to be
- 16:58Speaker 1: able to do a lot of different things, it's pretty
- 17:00Speaker 1: easy to get to get running backs, and I think
- 17:02Speaker 1: they learned you have to move him through because you
- 17:04Speaker 1: can't just depend on one guy for too long, especially
- 17:07Speaker 1: now with this this these fast offenses. And also I
- 17:10Speaker 1: think a receiver, you know, a receiver has a good game.
- 17:13Speaker 1: You know that's ten to an amazing game is ten?
- 17:16Speaker 1: You know ten touches right, you touch exactly, And sometimes
- 17:20Speaker 1: receivers will catch the ball and go out of balance.
- 17:22Speaker 1: And so you can have a star receiver and pay
- 17:24Speaker 1: him a lot of money and be feel confident he's
- 17:26Speaker 1: going to stay healthy. But at a running back, you
- 17:28Speaker 1: give him a lot of money and he's taking a
- 17:30Speaker 1: pound you don't know. Well, you did a good job
- 17:32Speaker 1: of of like I said, I feel like some people
- 17:35Speaker 1: might have counted you out and then when you came
- 17:37Speaker 1: back you were murdering shit. So you did a good
- 17:41Speaker 1: job of like extending your peak. I guess right. Nowadays,
- 17:44Speaker 1: we'll see someone like, you know, someone like I'm trying
- 17:50Speaker 1: to think, I feel like, you know, we saw it
- 17:55Speaker 1: a little bit with Zeke this year, but you'll see
- 17:57Speaker 1: somebody who is like David Johnson. Let's use guy on
- 18:00Speaker 1: the Cardinals, right, David Johnson. I just remember had like
- 18:03Speaker 1: the crazies season. He had some injuries, but when he
- 18:05Speaker 1: came back, I feel like the drop off for running
- 18:07Speaker 1: backs is quick and fast. Like, why do you think
- 18:12Speaker 1: that is now, like, what do you notice because you
- 18:14Speaker 1: did a good job of I feel like you came
- 18:16Speaker 1: from the days where like most running backs had like
- 18:18Speaker 1: nine ten years. You know, we think Emma Smith and
- 18:22Speaker 1: Drome bettest time. Yeah. Now Jan Peters ap, now we
- 18:26Speaker 1: see motherfucker's in there. They're in and out. They got
- 18:29Speaker 1: three or four years, they get a contract and usually
- 18:30Speaker 1: it's like you always hear the people always criticize the
- 18:33Speaker 1: NFL teams when they give the running back the fat contract. Yeah,
- 18:36Speaker 1: because like have you not learned? Yeah, yeah, yeah, But
- 18:39Speaker 1: that's what I'm saying, because running back is such a
- 18:41Speaker 1: difficult position because you know that if you're carrying the
- 18:44Speaker 1: load every there's a target on you. You're going to
- 18:46Speaker 1: get hit a lot, right, I think you know when
- 18:48Speaker 1: you're hungry trying to get that check, it's easier once
- 18:51Speaker 1: you get paid. It's human nature who reminds you of
- 18:57Speaker 1: of the way you used to play. Now. Fournette, Leonard Fournette, Hey,
- 19:04Speaker 1: I was so happy to see him with a Super Bowl.
- 19:06Speaker 1: He did good to him so dirty in Jacksonville. He
- 19:09Speaker 1: looked so good. But it was a wake up call
- 19:11Speaker 1: for him and he responded and he responded, he looked,
- 19:13Speaker 1: he looked really good. I was. I was impressed. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 19:17Speaker 1: I I I thought because I you know, when you
- 19:21Speaker 1: look at the stats he had his last year with Jacksonville,
- 19:23Speaker 1: it's like they just kind of just nobody wanted a
- 19:25Speaker 1: trade for him. Like I feel like Tom Brady's putting
- 19:28Speaker 1: together like you know, like kind of like like Pitts,
- 19:31Speaker 1: you know, or the Patriots used to always take chances
- 19:34Speaker 1: on players and if didn't work out, they just cut him.
- 19:36Speaker 1: But you know, they brought out a sink over there.
- 19:38Speaker 1: They brought what was the big fat dude who was
- 19:40Speaker 1: on the Redskins that they took the overpaid lineman. Dude,
- 19:44Speaker 1: he was offense or ship. He was on the Redskins.
- 19:49Speaker 1: The Redskins paid him out and then I forget his name,
- 19:53Speaker 1: big ass dude, defensive lineman. It was a defensive lineman. Yeah,
- 19:56Speaker 1: I don't know, but but Moss right because people people
- 20:00Speaker 1: kind of cast him aside when he was with the Raiders.
- 20:02Speaker 1: But I feel like Tom Brady's kind of doing that
- 20:04Speaker 1: now in Tampa Bay. Yeah, it's just crazy. Like Antonio Brown,
- 20:08Speaker 1: I feel like I feel like he's picking it up.
- 20:11Speaker 1: But I mean because there's there's nothing like experience. And
- 20:14Speaker 1: if you can get people on the same page and
- 20:16Speaker 1: they have experience, is there's no there's nothing that can
- 20:19Speaker 1: beat that in the in the league, nothing. And it's
- 20:21Speaker 1: it's probably the X factor of there's probably like maybe
- 20:25Speaker 1: three or four players in the league that everyone respects. Yeah, exactly, right, Like, well,
- 20:30Speaker 1: you know what we got you, You're Tom Brady. We
- 20:33Speaker 1: know what, we know what we're here to do. You
- 20:35Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. Yo. When you were coming up,
- 20:39Speaker 1: you worked with No Limit Sports. Yes, master P at
- 20:44Speaker 1: the time was the hottest ship moving. Yes, I had
- 20:47Speaker 1: a little fake No Limit chain when I was twelve.
- 20:49Speaker 1: Like man, No Limit was insane for you know, for
- 20:53Speaker 1: their run, and master P starting a sports agency was
- 20:58Speaker 1: kind of like, you know, I don't think I think
- 21:00Speaker 1: the only other person who was doing somethingiwilar that was
- 21:02Speaker 1: Jay Prince when he was doing boxing and and manager
- 21:04Speaker 1: Floyd Mayweather. Right, because this was before there was Rock
- 21:07Speaker 1: Nation Sports all that. How did you link with master
- 21:10Speaker 1: P outside of being in the same city. You know,
- 21:12Speaker 1: you're in New Orleans. We ended up, I mean I
- 21:15Speaker 1: linked up with them when I was in school in Austin.
- 21:17Speaker 1: Still and and you know what typically what happens is
- 21:21Speaker 1: agents have runners. You know, agents usually don't go after
- 21:24Speaker 1: the players. They hire someone younger that can relate to
- 21:26Speaker 1: the players, and they create the relationships and then they
- 21:28Speaker 1: introduced you to the agent. And so Terry Terry, that
- 21:32Speaker 1: was his runner. Yeah, that was his runner. And me
- 21:34Speaker 1: and Terry were just cool. You know, we're just cool.
- 21:37Speaker 1: And and you know, I just knew he was connected
- 21:41Speaker 1: to No Limits Sports, and like you said, p was
- 21:43Speaker 1: like was everything every everything, you know, especially me coming
- 21:47Speaker 1: from southern California going to school in Texas and being
- 21:50Speaker 1: just being introduced to that that whoay, it was. It
- 21:54Speaker 1: was real, you know, fat Pat it was. Yeah, it was.
- 21:59Speaker 1: So it was you know, mine expanding for me, and
- 22:03Speaker 1: you know, No Limit was was was a big part
- 22:05Speaker 1: of that. And so I had an agent because I
- 22:07Speaker 1: was a baseball player. So I had an agent and
- 22:09Speaker 1: I just thought I would keep that agent into football.
- 22:11Speaker 1: But that relationship fell apart, and so I didn't have
- 22:14Speaker 1: an agent. And then so all the like the normal
- 22:16Speaker 1: dudes started coming at me, but they just felt like grimy.
- 22:19Speaker 1: And so I thought about and I said, you know,
- 22:22Speaker 1: I'm at the top right now. He is at the
- 22:24Speaker 1: top like this could be an amazing like partnership that
- 22:28Speaker 1: really opens up people's minds to doing things differently, right,
- 22:32Speaker 1: you know, you don't always have to go to that
- 22:33Speaker 1: to that same guy that you know, can we can
- 22:36Speaker 1: overlap the world? And so I, you know, I said,
- 22:39Speaker 1: let's let's do this. And the contract that you that
- 22:44Speaker 1: they negotiated for you was was was what did it
- 22:48Speaker 1: end up? Not like did you ever regret making that decision?
- 22:51Speaker 1: Of course? Of course, of course, of course, But you
- 22:54Speaker 1: know it's it's not a negative regret. It that regret.
- 22:57Speaker 1: Like I was young and naive and I had like
- 22:59Speaker 1: these ideas, realistic ideas about what I wanted to do
- 23:01Speaker 1: with my NFL career, and I don't regret that, you know.
- 23:04Speaker 1: My I just remember growing up and hearing people complain
- 23:07Speaker 1: about overpaid athletes, and I just didn't. I wanted to
- 23:09Speaker 1: be different. And so what I told Pa and in Leland,
- 23:13Speaker 1: my agent, is I said, here's what I want, you know,
- 23:17Speaker 1: because I knew, you know, there's a there's a every
- 23:21Speaker 1: team has a certain amount of money that they get
- 23:23Speaker 1: in order to sign out. Well, it's a rookie salary, yep,
- 23:26Speaker 1: and so and so I knew I was the only
- 23:29Speaker 1: I was the only draft pick that year, and so
- 23:31Speaker 1: I said, just give me the max of whatever that
- 23:34Speaker 1: rookie salary cap number is, and then I'll make the
- 23:38Speaker 1: minimum and make everything else be based off incentives. So
- 23:41Speaker 1: it was sure I did have everything incentive. It was
- 23:43Speaker 1: it was me and then and they tried to talk
- 23:45Speaker 1: me out of it. They said, listen, you have all
- 23:47Speaker 1: this leverage, and you have an opportunity, you know, to
- 23:49Speaker 1: be the highest paid rookie ever in the history of
- 23:51Speaker 1: the NFL, and you were I and I said, it
- 23:54Speaker 1: didn't feel right. I mean I didn't feel right. I
- 23:57Speaker 1: was young. I mean, looking back, I'm like, what the
- 23:59Speaker 1: hell you know? But but it just didn't feel right
- 24:02Speaker 1: to me at the time. You know, I didn't. I
- 24:03Speaker 1: didn't want to. It didn't feel right. I wanted to
- 24:05Speaker 1: earn it. But and the one so what I regret
- 24:08Speaker 1: is I didn't consider what if I get hurt and
- 24:10Speaker 1: I can't play, And then my first preseason game I
- 24:13Speaker 1: get a bad ankle SPRA and I ended up missing
- 24:15Speaker 1: ten games my first two seasons, and so it backfired.
- 24:20Speaker 1: But you know, once I got healthy, you know, I
- 24:22Speaker 1: put up numbers where you know, hit those incentives? What what? What?
- 24:27Speaker 1: When did you sign your second NFL contract? So I
- 24:31Speaker 1: didn't sign my second well, technically I signed my second
- 24:34Speaker 1: NFL contract. I did it because was the first contract
- 24:37Speaker 1: was four years or eight years? Oh, seven years with
- 24:40Speaker 1: the option seven. It was seven years with the option.
- 24:43Speaker 1: That's fucking crazy, yeah, seven, because now that's not even
- 24:46Speaker 1: an or. No, I mean, what's his name? A home
- 24:48Speaker 1: just signed a ten year deal. Yeah, but usually for yeah,
- 24:50Speaker 1: usually for a rookie, they take four or five five
- 24:53Speaker 1: year deals because at four years, at four years, your
- 24:56Speaker 1: you're a restricted free agent. But again, eight year deal,
- 24:59Speaker 1: that's like that's piping ship in the last dance. But
- 25:02Speaker 1: you know, but I was thinking, you know that, that's
- 25:05Speaker 1: why we did the wedding. The wedding, the wedding, right
- 25:07Speaker 1: right right, we're buried. You know, I was thinking, there,
- 25:09Speaker 1: they traded traded everything for me, you know, like, let's
- 25:13Speaker 1: do this. You know, I'm not messing around. I'm not
- 25:15Speaker 1: trying to be hopping around from teams. Let's let's do this.
- 25:19Speaker 1: And so but when I got traded to Miami, my agent,
- 25:22Speaker 1: Lee Steinberg, my new agent, talked to the Dolphins and said, look,
- 25:25Speaker 1: you know, you made this big trade to get him
- 25:27Speaker 1: over here. You know, that's at least that's at least
- 25:30Speaker 1: like switching around a little bit. So we talked about
- 25:32Speaker 1: the incentives. And then I bawled out that year led
- 25:35Speaker 1: the NFL and rushing and was able to you know,
- 25:37Speaker 1: get back on track. So that was technically my second contract,
- 25:43Speaker 1: but really it was just an addendum. So my first
- 25:45Speaker 1: contract last. Still, it lasted all the way till I
- 25:49Speaker 1: finally became a free agent and then I signed with
- 25:50Speaker 1: the Day. That's crazy. So with the master P thing,
- 25:54Speaker 1: you were around master P kind of in the peak
- 25:57Speaker 1: of No Limit, right towards towards the Yeah, it was
- 26:01Speaker 1: about the peak. Ninety nine was the peak. Yeah, you're
- 26:05Speaker 1: playing football in New Orleans, you had to be around
- 26:11Speaker 1: some crazy shit. I was, you know, I was, you know,
- 26:16Speaker 1: So they were their their compound, all their stuff was
- 26:19Speaker 1: down in Baton Rouge, which was about sixty miles from
- 26:22Speaker 1: from New Orleans. But yeah, I was down there and
- 26:25Speaker 1: it was it was crazy. It was just so it
- 26:28Speaker 1: was just so dynamic. You know, Like I was down
- 26:31Speaker 1: there one time and they had signed this basketball player
- 26:33Speaker 1: from the WNBA and she, you know, she would mess
- 26:36Speaker 1: around on the on the beat machine and they were
- 26:38Speaker 1: just messing around. They went in there and they recorded
- 26:41Speaker 1: Hoo doy who like like just just just sitting out
- 26:45Speaker 1: like in the studio like this hanging out and she
- 26:48Speaker 1: just was messing around there like hey, let's go in
- 26:49Speaker 1: the studio. And then dudes just showed up. They were
- 26:51Speaker 1: in the studio all night and came out with us
- 26:54Speaker 1: and the man that was my ship, he was off
- 26:56Speaker 1: the True of the Game Ship, the True album. It
- 26:58Speaker 1: was like that where it was the people coming together,
- 27:01Speaker 1: like talking, getting the recordings. That's why they were putting
- 27:03Speaker 1: out albums every two weeks. They were so many. Everybody
- 27:06Speaker 1: had a fucking album. Wait, so who do you who?
- 27:08Speaker 1: Was helped produced by a w NBA player? Yes, holy who?
- 27:12Speaker 1: What do you know? I don't remember her name, but
- 27:14Speaker 1: I mean that's fucking crazy. So it was live like that,
- 27:21Speaker 1: and then you know they go to l s U
- 27:22Speaker 1: down the road shoot basketball. It was and it felt
- 27:25Speaker 1: like a family. It really felt like a family. Yes,
- 27:28Speaker 1: he murdered. They're all brothers, you know. Yeah, that's crazy. Man.
- 27:33Speaker 1: How long were you actually like how long was master
- 27:35Speaker 1: P your agent? How long did it last? About a year?
- 27:40Speaker 1: About a year and you realize like, ah, man, well
- 27:44Speaker 1: the agency just started to it started to fall apart.
- 27:46Speaker 1: You know, I think, and you know, kind of my
- 27:49Speaker 1: fault because I think if I had taken their idea
- 27:53Speaker 1: of the contract and become the highest paid player, that
- 27:56Speaker 1: would have looked better for an agent. No, and I
- 27:59Speaker 1: think it could have turned into something more. But we
- 28:02Speaker 1: got so much negative publicity and negative media coverage that
- 28:06Speaker 1: it wasn't the story. Wasn't you know, rebellious upstart you know,
- 28:11Speaker 1: you know, pushes back against agents. It was look what
- 28:13Speaker 1: these you know, look what happens when you hire a
- 28:15Speaker 1: rapper to represent you, right, that's crazy. When you mentioned
- 28:21Speaker 1: earlier you were a baseball player, a lot of people
- 28:24Speaker 1: don't know you were drafted by that Phillies, right, And
- 28:27Speaker 1: that was because you know, our guy in Arizona is
- 28:29Speaker 1: one of those guys. You know. I'm just I'm afraid
- 28:32Speaker 1: Kyler Burdys to go funk around and want to play
- 28:34Speaker 1: for the Oakland A's one day and then we're fucked.
- 28:36Speaker 1: Then we got I don't know who, but he's not
- 28:39Speaker 1: I hope not. But I like being a too two
- 28:43Speaker 1: sport athlete. Like how like did you ever take getting
- 28:47Speaker 1: back into baseball serious at any point in time. This
- 28:50Speaker 1: is a great question. I did. I did so growing
- 28:54Speaker 1: up in San Diego. It was big, big Tony Grin fan,
- 28:59Speaker 1: and I always thought since I was a kid, I'll
- 29:01Speaker 1: be a professional way because I felt like he looks
- 29:04Speaker 1: like every other guy in the world and he was
- 29:06Speaker 1: just a fucking hit anyway. Continue, so I always thought
- 29:09Speaker 1: i'd be a professional baseball player. Started playing when I
- 29:12Speaker 1: was second grade. Didn't start playing football until I was
- 29:15Speaker 1: in seventh grade, but started playing football baseball was about
- 29:20Speaker 1: the same high school, I started to take off in
- 29:23Speaker 1: as far as football, but I still had a dream
- 29:24Speaker 1: to play baseball. And so my senior year colleges, junior
- 29:29Speaker 1: year colleges were looking at me. Major League baseball teams,
- 29:33Speaker 1: you're looking at me. And I told all the colleges
- 29:36Speaker 1: I'm playing I'm playing minor league baseball. I don't care.
- 29:38Speaker 1: And then I told all the baseball teams, I'm playing
- 29:40Speaker 1: college football. I don't care. And they both were like cool.
- 29:43Speaker 1: And so I was drafted by the Phillies and I
- 29:44Speaker 1: went to Texas to play football. And so what I
- 29:46Speaker 1: did is in the summers after after school, I would
- 29:51Speaker 1: drive my car to Florida to Clearwater where the Phillies
- 29:54Speaker 1: I used to live in Tampa leve me some clearwater.
- 29:56Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah, so yeah, So we go to clearmonter
- 30:02Speaker 1: and I would do like I get in baseball shape,
- 30:04Speaker 1: and then they would send me. I played in North
- 30:05Speaker 1: Carolina for two years, played in Virginia, and then I
- 30:07Speaker 1: played in upstate New York for a year for a summer,
- 30:10Speaker 1: and I played baseball all summer, and then at the
- 30:12Speaker 1: end of the summer, I'd go back and start football
- 30:14Speaker 1: training camp. And so when I got to the Combine
- 30:19Speaker 1: NFL Combine after my senior year, all the NFL teams
- 30:22Speaker 1: said you got to choose either baseball or football. And
- 30:24Speaker 1: I was much better at football, and so I said, okay,
- 30:27Speaker 1: I'm going to give up baseball. And then after my
- 30:33Speaker 1: second year, after my second year in New Orleans, first
- 30:35Speaker 1: year again, I told you, I met ten games. So
- 30:38Speaker 1: I was starting to think, fuck this shit, man, we
- 30:40Speaker 1: might have to go play baseball. I had to go
- 30:42Speaker 1: play baseball. And so I rented a spot down in
- 30:47Speaker 1: South Mission Beach in San Diego, and I called up
- 30:50Speaker 1: my old baseball coach from high school, and I said
- 30:52Speaker 1: you know, can you get me back into baseball shape?
- 30:54Speaker 1: And so I called up my old baseball agent. I
- 30:57Speaker 1: started like reaching out to baseball teams, but my strength
- 31:02Speaker 1: coach from the Saints called me up and convinced me
- 31:04Speaker 1: to come back to play football. So when you said
- 31:06Speaker 1: baseball shape, what's the difference between baseball shape and football shape,
- 31:11Speaker 1: it's about twenty pounds. It's about twenty pounds, and it's
- 31:14Speaker 1: about twenty pounds of muscle. Is really so I would
- 31:19Speaker 1: you know? I I in college football. You got to
- 31:22Speaker 1: lift a lot of You lift weights a lot, right, So,
- 31:24Speaker 1: and I'm the kind of person I lift weights. First
- 31:27Speaker 1: time I ever lifted weights when I was a teenager,
- 31:29Speaker 1: I had stretch marks the next morning. So I live waits.
- 31:31Speaker 1: I get swollen. And so when I was an instant
- 31:35Speaker 1: results exactly. So when I was in college, you know,
- 31:38Speaker 1: I would be I'd be swollen. I leave to play baseball,
- 31:41Speaker 1: and I'd come back skinny and fast, because you know,
- 31:44Speaker 1: baseball it's hot, first of all, it's hot in the summer,
- 31:48Speaker 1: and just throwing the ball all the time, you know,
- 31:50Speaker 1: the bulking the shoulders and swinging the bat, I would
- 31:53Speaker 1: get I get down and be in great shape when
- 31:56Speaker 1: when the football season started. That's crazy. We think about
- 32:01Speaker 1: all the all the players who could have like Benure,
- 32:05Speaker 1: Kyler Murray obviously, Deon Sanders, Bo Jackson. You probably was like,
- 32:08Speaker 1: I'm gonna be the next boat Jackson out this motherfucker.
- 32:11Speaker 1: That was my idol. That was my That's why I
- 32:12Speaker 1: wore thirty four. That's crazy, want to be the next
- 32:15Speaker 1: bow Jackson. Yeah, you played four years in college, which
- 32:17Speaker 1: is something else that nobody does anymore. Yeah, and then
- 32:21Speaker 1: you still went on to have a long career. But
- 32:24Speaker 1: by the time you got out of college, like playing
- 32:27Speaker 1: that much, I mean at a high level, the highest level, Like,
- 32:31Speaker 1: did you feel like your body was already kind of
- 32:33Speaker 1: beat down a bit looking back? Hell yeah, But I
- 32:36Speaker 1: think in the time, it just was so excited and
- 32:39Speaker 1: I found invincible. I wasn't even really thinking about my
- 32:41Speaker 1: body like that, you know. And you asked about regrets,
- 32:43Speaker 1: and and that's one regret I do have, is that,
- 32:47Speaker 1: And it's it's crazy, but I think I would have
- 32:50Speaker 1: I should have done it. Is I should have taken
- 32:51Speaker 1: a year off, you know, after after college, after college,
- 32:55Speaker 1: because NFL wasn't going anywhere. I would still be in
- 32:57Speaker 1: my early twenties. But I think having a year off
- 32:59Speaker 1: to travel and just you know, get my mind off
- 33:02Speaker 1: of something else. I think it would it would have
- 33:04Speaker 1: served me. It would serve me. Well, I have to
- 33:06Speaker 1: ask this question because my friend is a big U. C.
- 33:09Speaker 1: L A fan. That's what I was gonna be talking
- 33:11Speaker 1: to you. So he said, ask him about the time
- 33:15Speaker 1: we beat them sixty sixty three or something like. It
- 33:17Speaker 1: was something crazy. Do you remember this game? It was?
- 33:19Speaker 1: It was so I mean it was two years in
- 33:21Speaker 1: a row, you know, because in college I do the
- 33:23Speaker 1: home and away series, and so we started off. It
- 33:26Speaker 1: was my junior year. We started off ran like number
- 33:28Speaker 1: eight eight, and we won our first game, and they
- 33:31Speaker 1: were coming in they lost to Tennessee, and they came
- 33:34Speaker 1: in and we were, you know, cocky, thinking we're gonna
- 33:36Speaker 1: run all over them. I mean, they beat the piss
- 33:39Speaker 1: out of us. It was one of those games where
- 33:40Speaker 1: it just it was like I felt like I was
- 33:43Speaker 1: in a nightmare. I mean, cade mcdown, It was like
- 33:46Speaker 1: the cade mcdown show. That dude is I mean that
- 33:48Speaker 1: day and even the next year, how many fucking mcnown's
- 33:51Speaker 1: are there. That's there's mccowns and mcnowell. Okay, yeah, but
- 33:55Speaker 1: cade McNown was, that's the best college quarterback I've ever
- 33:58Speaker 1: seen in person. He he tore us, He tore us
- 34:01Speaker 1: to pieces. It was nasty. I mean, it just was
- 34:03Speaker 1: like it just kept going going. Who's the best NFL
- 34:07Speaker 1: quarterback you ever played against? When you saw him with
- 34:09Speaker 1: your own eyes and you were like, God, damn, I
- 34:11Speaker 1: feel like everyone feels that way about my homes now.
- 34:13Speaker 1: Like some of these throws, even when he was getting
- 34:15Speaker 1: shit kicked out of him, you know, planking across the field.
- 34:18Speaker 1: I mean that yeah, that shit. That was yeah, yeah,
- 34:21Speaker 1: that's the next level. But like when you were playing,
- 34:23Speaker 1: who did you see in person? That just were you?
- 34:26Speaker 1: You just mail and it was part of it. Part
- 34:29Speaker 1: of it were the throws, but just how you know,
- 34:33Speaker 1: he'll walk up to the huddle and whatever the defense
- 34:35Speaker 1: is doing, right, he'll just call it out. He's doing that,
- 34:38Speaker 1: he's doing that, he's doing that. Okay, we're gonna do this.
- 34:40Speaker 1: We're gonna do this, and then just go And there's
- 34:43Speaker 1: when he's when he was on and then you look
- 34:45Speaker 1: over it and you got fucking j Fielder and you're like, fuck,
- 34:49Speaker 1: we're fucked. We're fucked boys. It's as we were running
- 34:54Speaker 1: the fucking wild cat. There is no quarterback on the
- 34:57Speaker 1: fucking field. I mean honestly, that's that's the feeling when
- 35:00Speaker 1: Peyton Manning is on, that's the feeling. And there's nothing,
- 35:02Speaker 1: there's nothing like what are we gonna do? Nothing you
- 35:04Speaker 1: can do? Is we got an intro? Yeah? We got
- 35:07Speaker 1: and he gets rid of the ball. He got rid
- 35:08Speaker 1: of the ball so fast it was nothing you could do. Man,
- 35:10Speaker 1: what would have happened if they would have got Edred
- 35:12Speaker 1: and James and you were fucking if you and Peyton
- 35:15Speaker 1: Manny would have played together, No, I mean, Jesus correct.
- 35:18Speaker 1: It would have been fun. It would have been fun.
- 35:20Speaker 1: I would have been insane when you when you were like,
- 35:23Speaker 1: you know, whenever I feel like, uh, you're as high
- 35:28Speaker 1: caliber of a college football player were, especially your last year, right,
- 35:32Speaker 1: pros reach out when you kind of have a feeling
- 35:35Speaker 1: when you might get drafted places, sometimes players on that
- 35:38Speaker 1: team will reach out and try to connect with you early.
- 35:41Speaker 1: Did anybody of notability do that to you when you
- 35:45Speaker 1: were obviously coming out and to go in the NFL? Hmm? No,
- 35:51Speaker 1: And you know, usually especially if you're coming out of
- 35:53Speaker 1: college usually as guys that you played with in college
- 35:56Speaker 1: rather than on a team. And so the couple of
- 36:01Speaker 1: guys that I knew in the league, they weren't on
- 36:02Speaker 1: teams that were you know, that were that would have drafted,
- 36:05Speaker 1: that would have drafted me. So so no, but you know,
- 36:09Speaker 1: I got close with Marshall Fault because he went to
- 36:12Speaker 1: San Diego State. I grew up in San Diego and
- 36:14Speaker 1: he was in college when I was in high school,
- 36:15Speaker 1: and so we we kind of bumped into each other.
- 36:18Speaker 1: And he had just been traded from Indie to Saint
- 36:21Speaker 1: Louis because Saint Louis had that they had that pick,
- 36:23Speaker 1: and I was I had visited with Saint Louis and
- 36:27Speaker 1: then they made that trade Marshall for the draft, and
- 36:30Speaker 1: then you could have been playing with the greatest exactly. Yeah.
- 36:34Speaker 1: But in that style of offense, though, I just I
- 36:37Speaker 1: really liked that. And I think people looked at me
- 36:39Speaker 1: because the Texas we ran the eye more so people
- 36:42Speaker 1: just assumed that I was I running back. But I
- 36:45Speaker 1: consider myself exactly I can do everything, and so I
- 36:50Speaker 1: think I got pigeonholed a little bit. And when this
- 36:52Speaker 1: when the Colts thought about Peyton Manning and the shotgun
- 36:54Speaker 1: all the time single back. It was closer to what
- 36:57Speaker 1: Eddern did at Miami, and so he was he was
- 36:59Speaker 1: a better fit in there. So who's the craziest guy
- 37:01Speaker 1: you've played with? And that could be crazy like this
- 37:04Speaker 1: guy's a good time or or crazy like this guy
- 37:08Speaker 1: will fucking take your face off if we're not do
- 37:11Speaker 1: another another be the good time guy, and then the
- 37:13Speaker 1: crazy guy like you want to have behind you at
- 37:15Speaker 1: the bar when you're about to get into a fight.
- 37:16Speaker 1: Another another Sun Devils. Do you name one of my
- 37:20Speaker 1: best friends in the league, Terrell Smith. He played fullback
- 37:23Speaker 1: with me in New Orleans and he just was crazy
- 37:26Speaker 1: for I mean, being fullback in the NFL, you gotta
- 37:28Speaker 1: be crazy, especially back then when the fullbacks were a thing,
- 37:30Speaker 1: especially when when with Coach Dicker, I mean in the
- 37:33Speaker 1: kind of offensive here running and so Terrell would, I mean,
- 37:36Speaker 1: he just was. He gotta get himself so geeked up
- 37:39Speaker 1: that sometimes you know, he have to do push ups
- 37:41Speaker 1: in the middle of the game just to like calm
- 37:42Speaker 1: himself down a little bit. When you say geeked up,
- 37:45Speaker 1: like the kids mean that, what do you mean by
- 37:47Speaker 1: geeked up? Even do it on I mean he was
- 37:49Speaker 1: on some ship. Well it was you on there, Michael Irving.
- 37:52Speaker 1: So no, no, okay, just but but but they they did.
- 37:56Speaker 1: So this was this was back in the day before
- 37:58Speaker 1: Federa was out, was banned, and so hydroxy cut they
- 38:04Speaker 1: had this ripped fuel. They had these and you would
- 38:07Speaker 1: take that. It was like taking meth. Yes, yes, yes, yes.
- 38:10Speaker 1: And so T was on that. He was on that
- 38:13Speaker 1: just he tried. He tried to give me something sometime
- 38:15Speaker 1: and we were I remember we were playing the Panthers
- 38:18Speaker 1: and it was in our quarterback through an interception, and
- 38:21Speaker 1: I remember which quarterback was put him on blast. It
- 38:23Speaker 1: was it was probably Aaron Brooks. Was he number two?
- 38:30Speaker 1: Number two? It pick yeah, And and I was so
- 38:34Speaker 1: like he hopped up on this that I like, I ran,
- 38:37Speaker 1: I ran to try to, you know, make the tackle
- 38:39Speaker 1: full speed and I missed him and I got back
- 38:42Speaker 1: up and I chased him down like thirty yards and
- 38:44Speaker 1: I finally made the tackles like that that d yes.
- 38:47Speaker 1: But I was so hopped up. I had to go
- 38:48Speaker 1: and I had to go in the in the in
- 38:50Speaker 1: the in the locker room for like twenty minutes just
- 38:52Speaker 1: to like calm down. I was my heart was beating
- 38:55Speaker 1: so fast. That stuff is dangerous. So he would be
- 38:57Speaker 1: on that, and that just made it worse. Everybody was
- 39:00Speaker 1: probably on everybody was on that. Yeah, Yeah, that's so crazy.
- 39:04Speaker 1: Was everybody was, was like, because I feel like, you know,
- 39:08Speaker 1: we're in an era where things have swayed for weed
- 39:12Speaker 1: because I don't they took it out of like they
- 39:14Speaker 1: can't test for it anymore, right, but they don't. They
- 39:16Speaker 1: don't suspend players anymore. But recreationally, weed is widely accepted now.
- 39:25Speaker 1: I think recreationally there's a bunch of drugs that are
- 39:28Speaker 1: probably not as big as they were. But when you
- 39:30Speaker 1: were we always hear about the nineties and like we
- 39:32Speaker 1: watched movies like The Last Boy Scout and and you know,
- 39:37Speaker 1: and like all these players just fucking snort coke and
- 39:41Speaker 1: fucking bitches and doing steroids, and like was that like
- 39:45Speaker 1: the like was was the because you you played through
- 39:48Speaker 1: kind of two errors low key? You know what I'm saying,
- 39:51Speaker 1: Did you feel the vibe? Like was that the vibe ever?
- 39:53Speaker 1: Like when you got into the league as far as
- 39:55Speaker 1: just like some guys were just fucking shooting up in
- 39:59Speaker 1: their ass. Pause you know what I'm saying, And just
- 40:01Speaker 1: like and you were a pretty fucking big dude yourself. Yeah,
- 40:04Speaker 1: but like was that something that was more widely like
- 40:07Speaker 1: like it's it's just going on. So I think, you know,
- 40:10Speaker 1: I got in the league in very late nine, nineteen
- 40:12Speaker 1: ninety nine, it was at the very end of I
- 40:15Speaker 1: think when that was more wide spread. I think the
- 40:17Speaker 1: heyday of that was Yeah, those Dallas Cowboy Michael Irvin days.
- 40:22Speaker 1: But but I think, you know, it's it's a couple
- 40:24Speaker 1: of things. One is, every team is an ecosystem. You know,
- 40:28Speaker 1: every team is an ecosystem. Some teams are chill and
- 40:31Speaker 1: some teams, you know, they just they have fun, right.
- 40:34Speaker 1: So and then you usually have a player like Michael Irvin,
- 40:38Speaker 1: you know, who is an animated player, who's you know,
- 40:41Speaker 1: who wants to have a good time. And football is
- 40:43Speaker 1: a very stressful job. And if we all need a
- 40:45Speaker 1: way to find and release and so I think we're
- 40:49Speaker 1: intense kind of people. And so yes, sometimes football players
- 40:52Speaker 1: get together, they can get carried away. But in a
- 40:54Speaker 1: healthy sense, we all we got to release. We gotta
- 40:56Speaker 1: release that stress somehow. Let me ask you this, out
- 41:00Speaker 1: of all the sports I DJ do nightclubs do strip
- 41:03Speaker 1: clubs do all this? Right? I feel like at every
- 41:05Speaker 1: sport it's for other fucking NFL players everywhere, Right, It's like,
- 41:12Speaker 1: no matter where I'm DJing, it's like, yo, the car,
- 41:14Speaker 1: Like we got four Cardinals over here randomly, the fucking
- 41:19Speaker 1: rams are in the building. Like what it's not it's
- 41:21Speaker 1: not even football season. What are they fucking doing in Scottsdale? Like,
- 41:24Speaker 1: what is happening? Yes, it's in my tripping though. So
- 41:27Speaker 1: so if you do the math right, there's more players.
- 41:29Speaker 1: There's a lot more players, right, there's a lot more players,
- 41:32Speaker 1: a lot more players. There's you know, fifty two roster
- 41:35Speaker 1: and then you know seven or eight guys, and most
- 41:36Speaker 1: of those guys we have no idea what the fuck
- 41:38Speaker 1: they look like exactly. Yeah, we might recognize their name
- 41:41Speaker 1: from you know, right if you hear the names, I've
- 41:43Speaker 1: seen he's got a fucking halbut on every time I
- 41:45Speaker 1: see him, exactly. But it's just it's just a lot
- 41:47Speaker 1: of dudes. You know, there's a lot you have a guy,
- 41:49Speaker 1: you know, you have a lot of guys that play
- 41:50Speaker 1: for a year, play for two years on the practice squad,
- 41:53Speaker 1: and they're in the NFL you know, or technically just
- 41:55Speaker 1: got cut and they're just free agent, you know, way
- 41:58Speaker 1: to get picked up. They're in the NFL. So yeah,
- 42:01Speaker 1: that's crazy funny. What do you you know, what's your
- 42:06Speaker 1: involvement in the in the weed game now? Because I
- 42:08Speaker 1: feel like, you know, you're when we think of athletes
- 42:11Speaker 1: and and celebrities who have you know, I associate you
- 42:15Speaker 1: with being Ricky Williams, the hippie who smokes weed and
- 42:20Speaker 1: fox dudes up on Sunday. Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's that's me.
- 42:23Speaker 1: And and that's really what I'm working on is you know,
- 42:27Speaker 1: thinking back when I was a kid, and and you know,
- 42:30Speaker 1: the potheads and the and the jocks and the athletes
- 42:33Speaker 1: the stoners are the same guy. They didn't hang out, right, Yeah,
- 42:37Speaker 1: they didn't hang out because that's that was the time
- 42:39Speaker 1: we live in. And as I you know, matured and grew,
- 42:42Speaker 1: you know, I realized that I was a jock and
- 42:44Speaker 1: I was a stoner and they were separated. And so
- 42:46Speaker 1: for me, it was work on trying to bring him together.
- 42:48Speaker 1: And so I'm launching a brand on four twenty I
- 42:52Speaker 1: called the Heisman h I G H S m An
- 42:57Speaker 1: And it's and it's really the bringing sports and can
- 42:59Speaker 1: of together. And so this is going to be a
- 43:03Speaker 1: like marijuana. It's gonna be, it was gonna be. It's
- 43:05Speaker 1: a lifestyle, but it's a cannabis lifestyle. Okay. So it's
- 43:08Speaker 1: kind of like clothing lines merch exactly. They'll even be
- 43:11Speaker 1: Heisman houses. So, uh, sports, we got to get you
- 43:14Speaker 1: your own strain bro exactly what we're working on it
- 43:16Speaker 1: right now. So so yeah, I'm gonna get you hooked
- 43:19Speaker 1: up with Burner over at Cookies. Man. I mean, Cookies
- 43:21Speaker 1: is doing it, is doing it right. Yeah, I mean
- 43:23Speaker 1: Cookies is a great example of of Garry Peyton's selling
- 43:27Speaker 1: a lot of weed with them. I saw a lot
- 43:29Speaker 1: of weeds trying to get my picture on a little bag,
- 43:33Speaker 1: a little bag and come on, man, make it happen.
- 43:35Speaker 1: I'll call I will FaceTime Burner right now after we
- 43:37Speaker 1: get off this. When you moved to Austin's one of
- 43:41Speaker 1: my favorite cities. I used to do south By Southwest
- 43:45Speaker 1: out there every year. I used to throw shows and
- 43:48Speaker 1: do all that. But it was like one of the cities.
- 43:50Speaker 1: When I first went there, I had no idea what
- 43:52Speaker 1: to expect, and when I got there, I just fell
- 43:55Speaker 1: in love. It's like his own vibe. It's you know,
- 44:00Speaker 1: I always, you know, explain to people from where I'm from.
- 44:02Speaker 1: It's like Mill Avenue and Tempe, but like Times twenty sixth,
- 44:07Speaker 1: sixth Street, it's fucking crazy. But it's a liberal city
- 44:11Speaker 1: in a red state. Was it always like? Was it
- 44:14Speaker 1: always kind of that? Like? And when you went there,
- 44:16Speaker 1: how did you like Austin? Like? How because you came
- 44:19Speaker 1: from San Diego, which is its own thing as well,
- 44:22Speaker 1: people go to San Diego, La two different vibes. Yes, yes, yes,
- 44:25Speaker 1: So I mean I had a very similar experience. So
- 44:27Speaker 1: I went on my recruiting trip to Austin, and I
- 44:32Speaker 1: never really been out of California, so I thought, you know, Texas.
- 44:35Speaker 1: I thought there'd be like tumbleweed down on the airport,
- 44:39Speaker 1: and so Austin's a beautiful city. So flying in over
- 44:42Speaker 1: the lakes and stuff, I was like wow. And it
- 44:44Speaker 1: was December and it was seventy two degrees. I remember
- 44:46Speaker 1: I landed and I just and I fell in love
- 44:48Speaker 1: probably within the first two hours I was in Austin,
- 44:52Speaker 1: and it was much smaller. I think it was about
- 44:55Speaker 1: five hundred thousand people, and it was really just the
- 44:58Speaker 1: capital and the Texas University and that was it, and
- 45:01Speaker 1: especially in the summertime, there was nobody there, but it
- 45:03Speaker 1: was always liberal. You know, uh Billy Nelson uh has
- 45:08Speaker 1: a has a statue there, and you know, he's an
- 45:10Speaker 1: icon in Austin. So it was always more more liberal
- 45:13Speaker 1: than especially than Dallas and Houston. But you know, as
- 45:17Speaker 1: it's grown and it's grown crazy, it's crazy. And then
- 45:20Speaker 1: Joe Rogan just moved. I memory's fucking everybody moving there.
- 45:23Speaker 1: No state taxes, I mean no state Yeah. Me and
- 45:25Speaker 1: Freddy Gibbs were out there like two weeks ago for
- 45:28Speaker 1: a few days and we were going to comedy shows
- 45:30Speaker 1: and it was just like it was. It's crazy though,
- 45:33Speaker 1: the homeless shit downtown kind of looks like parts of
- 45:37Speaker 1: l It's getting bad in Austin right now, is man.
- 45:39Speaker 1: I was like, what the fuck I was getting ben
- 45:41Speaker 1: since like twenty seventeen, I'm like, where are all these
- 45:43Speaker 1: fucking homost people? Liberal mayor somethelling you liberal may. Yeah,
- 45:46Speaker 1: it's crazy because like there's a such thing as being
- 45:48Speaker 1: too liberal. Yeah, we were because I'm a fucking Democrat.
- 45:51Speaker 1: I'm not I'm independent, but I've always voted Democrat. But
- 45:54Speaker 1: I was someone who really liked Bernie Sanders a lot
- 45:56Speaker 1: when he was running, you know. But there is a
- 45:59Speaker 1: such thing as just being too liberal. Yeah, and I
- 46:01Speaker 1: feel like that's what's happening here. It's happening in Austin.
- 46:04Speaker 1: It's happening in Austin too. Yeah, because there's that area
- 46:07Speaker 1: at the end of sixth Street before there's the other
- 46:10Speaker 1: side of sixth Street where there's like the parking lot
- 46:13Speaker 1: with the bridge like you could and it's all homeless tents.
- 46:17Speaker 1: And I was like, ah, hell no, Like we used
- 46:20Speaker 1: to walk from one side. There was this thing called
- 46:22Speaker 1: favor for it. We'd just walk over that, like under
- 46:24Speaker 1: that bridge, like all homeless people, I'm telling you. And also,
- 46:27Speaker 1: I mean I was like dank when I saw like
- 46:29Speaker 1: the homeless people in their tents, they're starting to hang art.
- 46:32Speaker 1: They're starting to hang artwork. That's the way it is
- 46:34Speaker 1: out here. Maam, you're in fucking Venice. You live in Venice. Yes.
- 46:40Speaker 1: I rode my bike through Venice last week and it
- 46:42Speaker 1: was the first time I've been there in probably two years,
- 46:46Speaker 1: and I was blown away by how like the handball
- 46:52Speaker 1: court people just turned them into apartments, like like like
- 46:58Speaker 1: you said, like, you'll walk by some of these fucking
- 47:01Speaker 1: la homeless tents and they're better than some of the
- 47:04Speaker 1: apartments that some of these studios motherfuckers are rinting out here. COVID,
- 47:08Speaker 1: you know, COVID people abandoned, you know, people weren't visiting
- 47:11Speaker 1: Venice as much, and then homeless people just just I
- 47:15Speaker 1: was sitting there and there was like five or six
- 47:18Speaker 1: tents set up on like a part of the little
- 47:20Speaker 1: hill in front of the beach in Venice, and I
- 47:22Speaker 1: was like, these motherfuckers have beachfront property and they're paying
- 47:26Speaker 1: zero dollars. Now I don't know where they're taking a
- 47:29Speaker 1: shit and shower and every day that's different, right, because
- 47:31Speaker 1: that's where things get a little dicey. But I'm like,
- 47:34Speaker 1: these homeless motherfuckers wake up every day on the beach.
- 47:38Speaker 1: That's the best. That's the best. Homeless. Like, if I
- 47:40Speaker 1: was homeless, that's what you'd want to be. If I
- 47:42Speaker 1: was homeless, exactly, That's exactly where I would be, do
- 47:45Speaker 1: you Like, you know, I've seen some people who live
- 47:48Speaker 1: in Venice who are very specifically with that area. Because
- 47:51Speaker 1: it's so expensive to live over there, a lot of
- 47:53Speaker 1: people have worked their entire life to be able to
- 47:55Speaker 1: afford to live in a place like Venice Beach. But
- 47:58Speaker 1: now it's like you walk outside, you might step in
- 47:59Speaker 1: hum and ship. Yeah, has it kind of like like
- 48:04Speaker 1: made you reevaluate maybe being over there? Is it frustrating?
- 48:07Speaker 1: So so when I when I first moved to Venice,
- 48:10Speaker 1: I was right next to Santa Monica and and there's
- 48:13Speaker 1: a lot of homeless people walking around, and there's for
- 48:15Speaker 1: the record, there's always been homeless people, but by Venice Beach.
- 48:17Speaker 1: But it's something else. It's yeah, it's it's some other shit.
- 48:20Speaker 1: It's more. It usould just be one or two blocks
- 48:23Speaker 1: and now it's it's it's more. But I'm lucky where
- 48:25Speaker 1: I live is like a little like gated community, and
- 48:29Speaker 1: so I'm good where I live. But I can see
- 48:35Speaker 1: the people that you know, paying you know, almost two
- 48:37Speaker 1: million dollars for it be fucking sick square foot home.
- 48:42Speaker 1: And you walk outside and there's sixty year old dude
- 48:45Speaker 1: shooting up and taking a ship outside, I'd be pissed off.
- 48:48Speaker 1: Oh it's terrible. Why'd you leave us? Like why not
- 48:51Speaker 1: living in San Diego? The truth is there's there's just
- 48:55Speaker 1: more going on up here. That's fair. There's just and
- 48:57Speaker 1: you know, I was, I was talking to a friend
- 48:59Speaker 1: that I was driving up here, and I was like,
- 49:01Speaker 1: it's just surreal to me. It's just surreal living living
- 49:04Speaker 1: in LA because just like having this converse walking into
- 49:08Speaker 1: a walking into a studio and someone saying, hey, I
- 49:11Speaker 1: got some we've It's just it's just surreal. And there's
- 49:14Speaker 1: some of that in San Diego. But it's just it's
- 49:16Speaker 1: not like I go to San Diego a lot, and
- 49:18Speaker 1: even the weed thing, it doesn't feel like it's like
- 49:21Speaker 1: a like out here. It's like it's like a culture,
- 49:23Speaker 1: like everyone's walking around small San Diego hasn't gotten there yet. Yes,
- 49:26Speaker 1: even though you know it's recreational, you can get the
- 49:28Speaker 1: little like, but it's not the same. It's definitely. I
- 49:33Speaker 1: love Ocean Beach though. That's my I like the hippie
- 49:35Speaker 1: beach man. I love Ocean. It's my favorite beach. That's
- 49:39Speaker 1: the spot on the West coast that's one of the
- 49:41Speaker 1: unknown spots. That's because when I was a kid, my
- 49:44Speaker 1: cousin worked at Sea World. He was like a line chef,
- 49:49Speaker 1: and I was so poor when I was little, we
- 49:51Speaker 1: never could go. I never went to any theme park
- 49:54Speaker 1: in my life. We only went there because he gets
- 49:56Speaker 1: free tickets. So, uh, my aunt had this ratchet ass apartment.
- 50:03Speaker 1: What was the name of the street it was. It
- 50:04Speaker 1: was in the fucking trap though, My god, it was
- 50:09Speaker 1: like really bad. But then we'd go to Ocean Beach
- 50:14Speaker 1: every summer for like three years. We would go to
- 50:16Speaker 1: Ocean Beach and they had this fucking the Dog Beach,
- 50:19Speaker 1: you know, I love dogs. And then they got these
- 50:21Speaker 1: they had this place at these big ass slices of
- 50:22Speaker 1: pizza and there's that smoke shop, the black there. I
- 50:25Speaker 1: used to go buy my fucking black light posters from
- 50:27Speaker 1: there and take them back to Arizona. They have the
- 50:29Speaker 1: ill posters at that spot. Yeah. I fucking love San Diego.
- 50:32Speaker 1: That's the hippie beach, though, I feel like you go
- 50:35Speaker 1: to the other beaches, it's like, you know, it's like
- 50:38Speaker 1: it's not a you know, I like around everyday people,
- 50:41Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, Like, especially like La Joya,
- 50:43Speaker 1: so up, diddies, It's like, yeah, it's crazy, do you
- 50:47Speaker 1: think as obviously I keep growing up in San Diego.
- 50:50Speaker 1: When the Chargers came to La like that, that had
- 50:53Speaker 1: to be heartbreaking. Man, I can't even imagine, like growing
- 50:56Speaker 1: up and that's your team, and then it moves stuff
- 51:00Speaker 1: because you know, when I when I was a kid,
- 51:02Speaker 1: the Raiders were Raiders were in LA and the Rams
- 51:05Speaker 1: were in l A, and and so San Diego we
- 51:08Speaker 1: were Raider haters. You know, we hated the Raiders and
- 51:11Speaker 1: we hated LA. You know, even Padres hated the Dodgers.
- 51:13Speaker 1: And so when the Raiders went to Oakland, you know,
- 51:16Speaker 1: we could still not like them. But it wasn't it
- 51:18Speaker 1: wasn't the same. There's a real rivalry between Santo and LA.
- 51:21Speaker 1: It wasn't the same. It wasn't the same. It wasn't
- 51:22Speaker 1: the same. And then the last straw was when LA
- 51:26Speaker 1: chargers like that. Yeah, I can only imagine it be
- 51:31Speaker 1: like Arizona. We have that same relationship with LA. It's like,
- 51:35Speaker 1: you know, it's it's like beat fuck the Lakers, beat
- 51:37Speaker 1: the Lakers, beat the Dodgers, et cetera. Yeah, when I
- 51:40Speaker 1: moved out here and I started to do radio out here,
- 51:42Speaker 1: and they told me you might want to start wearing
- 51:43Speaker 1: a Dodgers hat, I'm like, you know what, I can
- 51:46Speaker 1: do that because I don't care about baseball, but I'm
- 51:50Speaker 1: not doing that with football or basketball, you'll never see me.
- 51:53Speaker 1: And I love Lebron, you know, but I'm not. I
- 51:55Speaker 1: can't wear anything that those Lakers on it. It's not
- 51:57Speaker 1: in my it's not in my nature. Man, it's so
- 52:00Speaker 1: so the Suns, you know on uh, you know, I
- 52:02Speaker 1: played two K every once in a while. My favorite team,
- 52:06Speaker 1: which is the six Sons with Steve richardson Mary. Yes, yes,
- 52:12Speaker 1: that's my squad. And what's crazy is Barbosa. Yeah, it's
- 52:16Speaker 1: crazy because like it's not even like there's players off
- 52:20Speaker 1: that bench that I don't know why they didn't make them,
- 52:21Speaker 1: because the bench, you know what's crazy about those old
- 52:23Speaker 1: ass teams on two K is the most Like the
- 52:27Speaker 1: players on the bench are just made up players, made
- 52:29Speaker 1: up players. Yes, yeah, it's like, fuck, man, where's you know,
- 52:32Speaker 1: where the fuck is Tim Thomas on the bench? You know?
- 52:35Speaker 1: Or yeah, what's your in your opinion, the best game
- 52:41Speaker 1: you ever played? Mm ah, probably the probably the game
- 52:52Speaker 1: actually my my freshman year in college. Freshman year in college,
- 52:56Speaker 1: we were playing Texas A and M, and back then
- 52:59Speaker 1: they had the best defense in the country and I
- 53:01Speaker 1: was a freshman fullback and I was scared. I was scared.
- 53:05Speaker 1: And I remember it was like the first end of
- 53:07Speaker 1: the first quarter. They ran a blitz and we ran
- 53:09Speaker 1: a draw play and they kind of ran themselves out
- 53:11Speaker 1: of the play and I just broke up the sideline
- 53:13Speaker 1: for a touchdown. And I was so like so shocked
- 53:15Speaker 1: that I had a nice play. And I ended up
- 53:18Speaker 1: finishing the game with one hundred and sixty five yards
- 53:21Speaker 1: and two touchdowns and we we beat them and in
- 53:23Speaker 1: the conference championship. That's crazy. So that just as a
- 53:25Speaker 1: freshman showing up against the you know, sixty yeah, wow,
- 53:30Speaker 1: what's what's your what was your career high in the
- 53:33Speaker 1: in the NFL when it came to yards, like in
- 53:35Speaker 1: a game, you know, two twenty three. I think I'm
- 53:38Speaker 1: one of only four players I have back to back
- 53:39Speaker 1: two hundred yard games. I think I had two twenty
- 53:41Speaker 1: three against Buffalo. Then I had to sixteen the next
- 53:43Speaker 1: week against Chicago. Jesus Christy, I was, I was, I
- 53:47Speaker 1: was on one. I was he was on that fucking
- 53:49Speaker 1: hydroxy catch ship. Waitit wait wait wait wait wait's was
- 53:54Speaker 1: that what? The dolphins of the Dolphins? Yeah, fuck Dolphins.
- 53:59Speaker 1: The defensive players that scared you. Okay, if I'm being honest,
- 54:06Speaker 1: John Lynch, a little bit safety for the for the
- 54:09Speaker 1: GM of the Yes, yeah, exactly, Ray Lewis. I mean
- 54:14Speaker 1: I remember my my rookie year we played him. I
- 54:17Speaker 1: was hurt, but I was I was glad. I was
- 54:19Speaker 1: hurt that game because he just is so smart and
- 54:23Speaker 1: so fast and and and so girthy, like when he
- 54:27Speaker 1: hits you. I mean he was all over the field
- 54:30Speaker 1: and when he hits you it hurts so so he
- 54:33Speaker 1: was one he's laughing about girthy. He was sick. Fuck. Sorry, continue,
- 54:40Speaker 1: I guessn't say the mind always, the mind always goes there.
- 54:45Speaker 1: Who else? Yeah, that's it? You know. You know there's
- 54:51Speaker 1: there's two two players both played for the Patriots who
- 54:56Speaker 1: I had like battles with. I wasn't I wasn't intimidated,
- 54:59Speaker 1: but they would come hit you, Rodney Harrison uh and
- 55:02Speaker 1: Lawyer Malloy, but mainly safety. So every every Wednesday when
- 55:07Speaker 1: we would get our scouting report, and the first thing
- 55:09Speaker 1: I would do is I'd look to see how how
- 55:11Speaker 1: much the safeties weighed. That's how I knew what kind
- 55:14Speaker 1: of week it was going to be. If they were
- 55:16Speaker 1: two ten and under, you're going to destroy him. I
- 55:18Speaker 1: got you. I got him? Are the two twenty safeties?
- 55:21Speaker 1: You know? I got you? Gotta get your mind right, Yeah,
- 55:23Speaker 1: because what Rodney Harrison? And when you were in that division?
- 55:27Speaker 1: When did Patriots win their first Super Bowl? One oh one?
- 55:31Speaker 1: So you were in the division? We already in No
- 55:35Speaker 1: you you got there? No two? I got there. Two.
- 55:37Speaker 1: We played him in one when I was in New Orleans,
- 55:38Speaker 1: but I got there to Miami and O two. Yeah,
- 55:41Speaker 1: when you played him, was was it Brady or bled Cell?
- 55:43Speaker 1: It was Brady? Ah, that's crazy. Do you remember, like
- 55:47Speaker 1: like at the time that we didn't know that Tom
- 55:49Speaker 1: Brady was going to be Tom Brady. But it was
- 55:50Speaker 1: two thousand and one, two thousand and one, no one knew.
- 55:53Speaker 1: I think nobody knew. That might have been one of
- 55:55Speaker 1: the first games nobody knew. And he's like, he shredded
- 55:58Speaker 1: us because in New Orleans we had a really good defense.
- 56:01Speaker 1: He's like, we went up there, he shredded us, and
- 56:04Speaker 1: so every everyone was taking note. But nobody knew, nobody
- 56:07Speaker 1: knew what was coming. That's crazy. Yeah, and then you
- 56:11Speaker 1: had to play him twice a year after that. I
- 56:13Speaker 1: used to love playing I hated him playing them, and
- 56:15Speaker 1: I love playing them. I loved it because of the competition,
- 56:18Speaker 1: but I hated it because they were always ready. Yeah,
- 56:20Speaker 1: you know, because we always hear about Bill Belichick being
- 56:22Speaker 1: this defensive mind, so he had to defend you for
- 56:25Speaker 1: however many years? Is it all true? Was it was? It?
- 56:30Speaker 1: Is it the coaching? Is it the players? It's it's
- 56:32Speaker 1: mainly the coaching, And a lot of it has to
- 56:34Speaker 1: do with scouting. For instance. They like how they watched
- 56:37Speaker 1: film and the scouting team right that they had this
- 56:39Speaker 1: note that whenever I adjusted my gloves and then it
- 56:42Speaker 1: was going to be a running play. So so every
- 56:46Speaker 1: every little queue, every little queue they could find, they
- 56:49Speaker 1: give it to the defensive players. And so a lot
- 56:51Speaker 1: of the times you playing the Patriots and they're calling
- 56:53Speaker 1: out to play before before, and was that true? It's true?
- 56:57Speaker 1: So every time you just but but I mean it
- 56:59Speaker 1: wasn't true one hundred percent of the time, but the
- 57:01Speaker 1: enough time enough times where yeah, you get ahead start,
- 57:04Speaker 1: you know, and we ran the ball so much that
- 57:06Speaker 1: it didn't matter. But but yeah, so and the you know,
- 57:10Speaker 1: we played them in two thousand and nine, two thousand
- 57:12Speaker 1: and eight, the Wildcat Game, and it was the opposite
- 57:15Speaker 1: because they had never seen the wildcat, so they couldn't
- 57:17Speaker 1: prepare for it, and they didn't know what to do.
- 57:19Speaker 1: They were running into each other, arguing on the sidelines
- 57:22Speaker 1: and we it felt so good to whoop them up. Yeah,
- 57:25Speaker 1: when ya were doing the Wildcat, it was you and
- 57:27Speaker 1: Ronnie Brown. And at the time I don't recall there
- 57:32Speaker 1: being a better one two punch when you really because
- 57:34Speaker 1: Ronnie Brown was a fucking monster. Yeah. The Cowboys they
- 57:38Speaker 1: had Marion Barber and oh and Barber and the other guy.
- 57:41Speaker 1: I know you're talking about, Thomas Jones. Thomas was it
- 57:44Speaker 1: Thomas Thomas Jones, Felix Jones, Jones, Clix Jones, and Marion Barber. Yes, yeah, yeah,
- 57:49Speaker 1: But but but the Wildcat, I want to say, you
- 57:53Speaker 1: guys are first. At least I'm a pretty big football fan.
- 57:56Speaker 1: I don't think I saw anyone do it before you. Well,
- 57:58Speaker 1: just before we did it. Our offensive coordinator quarterbacks coach
- 58:02Speaker 1: David Lee was at Arkansas and Felix Jones and uh
- 58:07Speaker 1: uh uh McFadden they ran it at Arkansas year Fadden. Wow.
- 58:14Speaker 1: So when when you guys decided to do it in
- 58:16Speaker 1: the NFL, are you thinking like this is fucking crazy?
- 58:19Speaker 1: We're gonna get ate up were this is. I was
- 58:20Speaker 1: like this, I was like this high school high school bullshit.
- 58:24Speaker 1: But then we started off hing two and then we
- 58:26Speaker 1: were like, Okay, we gotta try some ship. Try we
- 58:28Speaker 1: gotta try some ship. And so we we we put
- 58:31Speaker 1: it in against the Patriots that first game, and Ronnie
- 58:33Speaker 1: had like, you know, had a sixty yard had one
- 58:36Speaker 1: twenty through for a touchdown. I had like almost one
- 58:38Speaker 1: hundred yards Russian and and we ended up making the
- 58:42Speaker 1: playoffs that year. So it was really was it that
- 58:45Speaker 1: wasn't Brandon Marshall was in. It wasn't there yet, right?
- 58:48Speaker 1: He came the year after the did you play with him?
- 58:51Speaker 1: I did? How was he as a as a as
- 58:52Speaker 1: a dude? Man? Because I think he's one of those
- 58:54Speaker 1: wide wide receivers who don't get enough praise for the
- 58:57Speaker 1: career he's had. Because man, I remember when I was
- 59:00Speaker 1: like twenty something catches in a game. Yeah, I mean,
- 59:03Speaker 1: you know, if you just send it next to him,
- 59:05Speaker 1: he's a he's he's he's like a lot. He's like
- 59:09Speaker 1: a lot of defensive end. That's how big he is.
- 59:11Speaker 1: And great athlete, a great teammate, And I think I
- 59:16Speaker 1: got him later in his career where he was starting
- 59:18Speaker 1: to fire it out and kind of mature a little bit,
- 59:20Speaker 1: and we were really close. But yeah, when he was
- 59:23Speaker 1: on uh, he couldn't he couldn't be stuck. Can you
- 59:25Speaker 1: reveal who your biggest smoking buddy was in the NFL? Hmm?
- 59:33Speaker 1: So okay, So here, here's here's the issue here. Yeah,
- 59:37Speaker 1: is that you don't want to snitch. Well, it's not
- 59:41Speaker 1: even that I want to don't want to snitch? Is
- 59:43Speaker 1: that for eighty something percent of my NFL career I
- 59:47Speaker 1: was in the NFL's drug program and I was the
- 59:50Speaker 1: star player for most of that time, and so nobody
- 59:53Speaker 1: on the team was what he wanted to be was
- 59:55Speaker 1: trying to smoke with me. Yo, how did you finesse
- 59:57Speaker 1: the drug? Because because when you're an NFL drug program,
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: it's their job to try to catch you up. So
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: how did you get through it as much as you did?
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: There's this drink. There's this drink and I forgot what
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: it was called detox because because everyone knows we takes
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: like two weeks to get out of your system. Right, Well, well,
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: it depends on how much you smoke. It depends how
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: much you smoke. It depends how much body fat, it
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: depends how active you are. And so I got it
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: down to a science where eventually I realized, So at
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: one point I was being tested nine times a month, Okay,
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: so that's yeah, so that's like two times a week.
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: And so what I realized they never tested me on
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: back to back days. So if a dude would call
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: me up and he tested me in the morning before
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: I went to work six am, I p in the cup.
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: You know, I had a good day because I knew
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: that when I got home, I could smoke that night
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: and I could take I could smoke probably five hits
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: and be good for like three days, okay, because I
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: wasn't it wasn't stacking, it wasn't building up in my system.
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: It it would go in, then it would go out.
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: And then later I realized, you know, it got to
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: the point where I could take two hits the day
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: before a test and still pass the test. And so
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: I just had to like rash it. I just had
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: to ration it out. But earlier in my career, when
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: I was just smoking, I just would drink or drink
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: and get it at the head shot, and you the
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: guy would call me and say I'll be there at
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: six o'clock in the morning. So I set my alarm
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: for five I get up, I drink to drink, wait
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: fifteen minutes, drink water, fifteen minutes, drink water. Pee one time,
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: and then you're you're in this clean for five hours.
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: And that worked. I mean I used to have like
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: in my closet, I just had like like probably twenty
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: boxes time all that shit. Yes, cases, I buy him
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: out every time. I would. You never used anyone else's
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: pee because in the NFL, they probably watch the NFL
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: is to your knees, you know, pants to your knees.
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: That's crazy, That's fucking crazy. Oh man. But you know,
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: but I will say, I will say later in my career,
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: the drug dude, the test dude, it was the same guy,
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: and we became really cool. And so then sometimes, you know,
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: I tell my wife to to be and put in
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: the bathroom and then when I go in there. But
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: but yeah, do you recall the highest you've ever been
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: in your life? And it could be on anything, mushrooms,
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: I don't know, whatever, I don't know. Do you recall
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: like just the the most out of your mind you've
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: ever been? I don't know. I mean I had a
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: rough week last week. I ate mushrooms, ate inedible, smoked
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: my face off and got shipped. Okay, I do in Austin.
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: This was in Austin, Yes, I do. I do remember.
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: I do remember a time and it was like it
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: was mixing. It was mixed. It was when I was
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: in New Orleans. Yeah, I was young. I got smoking,
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: I was drinking X probably something else I don't even remember,
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: but yeah, I was. I was gone. I remember. I
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: was so gone. Uh. I was telling my friend I
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: had to be some good ect if. It was in
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: the nineties. Yeah, that was when ectasy was real. It
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: was yeah, early early two things. Yes, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: I just remember I was. I was gone in New
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: Orleans and where I thought I was in one part
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: of town, but I was in a completely different part
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: of town. I don't even remember how shut up in
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: Magnolia Project. All I know is that I got dropped
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: off at my house by a by a sheriff. Yeah. Here,
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: here's all I remember. I got dropped off by the
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: sheriff and he called me the next morning to cooperate
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: our stories to make sure that I was good. Wow.
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: So he could he could have arrested you. Oh, I'm
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: guessing because he looked out for me. He was like,
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: you're the fucking You're Ricky Williams. Man. We got a game.
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: I was. I was close friends with his boss and
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: and thank god, wow, I was When you were in
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: New Orleans, it was like the beginning of cash Money.
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: It was the beginning. It was like No Limit was
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: kind of you know, and cash Money was like this,
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: Yes it was Yeah, I remember I was in New York.
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: I was in New York, uh for the Heisman stuff
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: in the club and they just started playing that juvenile Juvenile. Yes, yes,
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: they just started They put they put jay Z on
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: the remix and ship just started playing it. I was
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: at the club of New York, I remember. Yeah. Yeah,
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: So like did you did you end up? You know,
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: we always see the young rapper dudes always have relationships
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: with the big superstars in the city. Did you ever
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: end up? I mean there was kind of a weird
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: there was a weird rivalry between No Limited Cass in
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: the middle. Okay, but early early when I was there,
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: my first year there, I was at a at a
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: club and Juvene I was there, and we you know,
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: we said what's up. And then at towards the very
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: end when hot boys were getting really big, then I
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: you know, hung out with them a lot more. Your
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: time in Miami early early two thousands, Miami was fucking
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: Trick Daddy and record Trina. I mean, how was what
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: was it like being in Miami in the early two
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: thousands and and and having your best professional yeah's your
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: best year there? Yeah it was. It was. I mean
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: it was it wasn't the same kind of rivalry, but
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: but you know, but Trick and Trina, like they were
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: tighted with Edgrin, you know, he's from there exactly exactly,
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: so it wasn't you guys, and everyone kind of compared
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: you guys. Yeah, so, but I mean, I love it,
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: we're tight, but it was just kind of that. But
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: I mean, whenever I saw him, it was it was cool.
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: He's a Florida boy for real. Yes, yes, exactly, but
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: but it was, Yeah, it was awesome. It was awesome
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: being in Miami at that time. You know, South Beach
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: was was was popping. I mean, like, how much pussy
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: were you getting at the time in life? Like you
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: I mean, listen, you're in Miami. I mean by the
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: way your college had to be crazy. College college was crazy.
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: I'm more of a quality, quality of a quantity. I
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: love a quantity of quality, quantity of what's the highest
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: amount of quantity of quality you've had at once? At once?
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: Just three? But in like a day, foursome seven? So
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: you had three girls and you three and me? Yeah,
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: oh so fame, but but in a day probably seven.
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: So in Miami, yeah, because in my Miami is just
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: it's just such a sexy city. Like every time I
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: go down there, I can't help it. It It just I
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: just love going to tutsies. Man, I mean, I love toutsiest.
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: I bit you. He's like, I've ran in and out
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: of that place. The IP is four hundred bucks. Anyway,
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: wait wait wait, how old were you gonna have your foursome?
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: That's got to be that's a moment in life. This
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: was right out of right out of right out of college.
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: So this is when I was in I was single,
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: I was in New Orleans, Rookie. I had a big
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: ass house just running it up. Yeah yeah, you know,
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: I mean I don't want to like, you know, seven
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: in a day too, that's impressive. Yes, you know, that's
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: just being dumb hydro. That's just being dumb and flexing
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: your muscle. You know, you had to be on hydrogen.
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: Seven girls in a day. You gotta be on something.
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: You gotta be on some hydroxy curves. Some of that
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: ship you were talking about that your fullback was on.
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: That's impressive. The most I did two in a day,
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: you know, in my hey day seven is you know,
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: but that's why what groupies? Right, when there's people that
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: are called groupies, it's easy. It's easy, right, it's easy.
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: It's harder to say no at some points and then
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: just to say yes back then. You know. Nowadays it's
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: very popular to have to be a beautiful woman. And
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: like you said, there's more NFL players than anybody, but
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: most beautiful women that I've ever met, some sort of
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: NFL player slides in the DMS right in. It's funny,
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: he's laughing. In your day, we didn't have social media,
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: so we're like, obviously there's clubs. Do it literally be
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: bitches in the hotels though, like just trying to get shows, no,
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: because like on the hotel, in the hotels they have
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: we have securities. Okay, okay, we have a security outside
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: the elevator, and so is more like they just know
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: the bars or the clubs or whatever that the players
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: hang out. That's that's really How did you ever have
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: or like if we do like charity events or something,
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: they might you know, they might show up. You were
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: a celebrity at the time, culturally, not just if you're
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: a sports fan. Did you ever get any sort of
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: attention from any celebrity females? I didn't. I mean I
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: don't think so I had. I had fantasies, you know,
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: like everyone in my halle Berry you know, let me
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: ask you something. You see Monsters Ball? Yeah, and so
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: I remember the first time I saw halle Berry's tits
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: was in Swordfish with John Travolta. I saw that ship
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: at Metro Center Mall, and as soon as it came
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: out on DVD, I just paused it. It was a VHS.
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: I was like, I was like, look at those and
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: then Monsters Ball Billy Bob Thornton just kind of did
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: a sting Man. Is halle Berry like the it for you?
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: Like when you were growing up? She was? Yeah, she was,
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: she was. She was the one. Yeah, halle Berry in
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: the nineties was the one. Was Halle halle Berry was
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: in the the Last Boys. We talked about that movie. Ever,
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: wasn't she in that? That was a crazy movie? When
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: the fuck and that the running backs running, he pulled
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: the gun out start shooting players on the field. Fucking crazy,
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: Damon Wayne's Yeah, that what's your what do you what
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: do you think is the best football movie you ever made?
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: There's some good ones or your favorite? I like, I
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: like any given Sunday, Any given Sunday was good. I
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: mean because I was. I think I was in Miami.
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: I was in Miami at the time, and so I
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: got That's when I got really close with Jim Brown
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: when he was there and shooting shooting that movie. But uh,
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: I just I think it wasn't one hundred percent accurate,
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: but it was the closest. It was the closest. Like,
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: I know, we got guys like that on the team. Yeah, exactly.
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: Who was like the superstar guy that you were like,
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: you know, like like who was like the most diva guy? No?
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: Was the diva is probably a negative word to use,
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: but when we think of like the Prime Times or
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: the you know, Michael Joe Horn, Joe Horn, I mean
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: nickname was Hollywood, Hollywood so he was on that ship.
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: He was on that wide receiver ship. It was a
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: It's a good story because you know, he he got
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: picked up by the by the Chiefs, played a little bit,
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: and then as a free agent he came to New
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: Orleans and no one knew who he was. He ball,
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: he bawled out, so he was always Hollywood. But but
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: he you know, he earned it. He earned it. You
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: know the one where he had the cell phone, He
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: had the cell phone. Yeah he did add any celebration, right, yeah, yeah,
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: he had the cell phone in the in the goal
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: post and he came pulled it out that It's crazy.
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: Would you ever get into coaching or anything? Now? I have,
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: so if the right situation came. I coached some college
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: kids in China. It was I coached Team Folayers in China. Yeah,
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: I know, just Chinese football players. There are. When I
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: got there, there wasn't, but now there are, so we
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: coach these kids. Are you saying that you're responsible for
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: Chinese football? I am. I respect that. Yeah, okay, I
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: have a lot to do with it. That was beautiful
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: and so you know, it was a job where I
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: got to travel and it was like two weeks two
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: weeks and then take them to Sweden to play in
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: a tournament, and then I coached some kids in Tijuana.
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: I like international coaching because you can make a bigger
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: effect on the kids and because you're teaching them an
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: American game and it's it's you know, less time consuming
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: and it's fun. It's fun because you're like, it's almost
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: like these kids, aren't you know. We come in a
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: culture of entitlement now, you know, even with athletes, right,
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: and and to be able to I'm sure teach someone
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: a new sport that you're so passionate about it kind
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: of brings it back to why you did it in
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: the first place exactly. And their their college kids and
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: so like they're in they're Chinese, so they're super smart.
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: And teaching them the people, I mean, it's it means
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: that they value they value they value intelligence and so
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: where and so they were coming as these intellectuals trying
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: to learn this game of football, and they learned the
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: game like this, like I can install I can put
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: an NFL type stuff and they could pick it up.
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: The hard part was when we got them on the
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: field and I had to teach them the defensive guys
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: when the ball snapped, you have to go that way,
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: you know, because the linebackers with the ball snapped, they
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: start back pedaling, right. So I just had the idea
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: of the game where you have to be aggressive and
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: you have to go attack. That took a little bit
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: of time to try to teach them, but but the
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: x's and o's they picked it up quick. When you
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: were coming up. What was the best club in Tijuana
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: Revolution Revolution? Yeah, okay, t Wan is a great place.
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: There's a strip of streets where everything gets kind of interesting. Yes,
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: there's like Adelitas and Chicago Club. And did you guys
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: frequent the TJ when you were young? So quite often.
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: The big thing with TJ is you can go when
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: you're eighteen. And I turned eighteen like two weeks before
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: I left to go start playing baseball, and so I
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: did TJ when I came back, when I came back
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: to visit from Texas from college. T Want is a
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: crazy place. Now there's this place called Club Hong Kong there, Yeah,
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: the strip club that's everyone wants to check out. Just
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: read the yelp reviews. Has Yelp reviews. That's what convinced
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: me to go. I was like, let me see if
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: there's Yelp reviews in this place, and I was like,
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: oh Jesus Christ, oh, I gotta check this out. I
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: got to check this out. Yo, Why did you never
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: get into a because I feel like you got a
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: great personality and I feel like, like like I said, culturally,
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: you're fucking huge. There's some really shitty dudes doing football
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: commentary and getting paid handsomely for it that used to
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: play football. They were never that good. Like, I don't
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: know how to fuck. Matt Hasselback's brother talks about being
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: a quarter Tim Hasselback. This motherfucker was horrible, treented over
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: was fucking up. Anyway. They sat in a lot of
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: meetings so they they know it. But did you ever
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: think of taking that career? Dad? I did, and I
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: dabbled in it a little bit. For the past seven years.
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: I've been doing some stuff for Texas. I do the
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: pregame show in a post. Oh nice. So I did
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: a little bit, and I even got invited up to
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: Bristol and to do some stuff at the ESPN. But
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: it's too much. You know, you sit there all day.
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: You live in La Man Sports Center's right here. You
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: can it's too much, like the study and like it's
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: too much. I like to come in and coach and
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: teach what I know, but having to watch film and
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: talk about what everyone's doing, like it's just too it's
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: too much to be prepared to do a good job.
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: So I decided, what are your thoughts currently on Texas
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: and UH and its football program? And you know, I think,
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: you know, obviously the football career program has seen better days,
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: you know. Yeah, I mean we've struggled. The past couple
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: of years have been a little bit better. We just
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: hired UH Sark, you know who was at SC and
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: I think uh a great offensive mind. I think, you know,
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: going through struggling with alcoholism and humbled him. Yeah and so,
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: and he spent some time with coach Saven. So I'm excited.
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: I'm excited. I think I think he's ready to shine
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: and Texas is ready to get back on top. So
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: we got a great running back from actually from Arizona. Nice. Yeah,
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: Jehan Robinson. He was a freshman last year. He was amazing.
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: So yeah, we got we're off to a good start.
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: Are you the greatest Texas Longhorn football player of all time?
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: I have the most records. I was just just gonna say,
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: it's it's it's gotta be you. And the only other
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: name I can think of is Vince Young. Earl Campbell, Yeah,
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: Earl Campbell. Fuck, Yes, that was Yeah, So I think
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: it's different. I think you know, you played four years too, Yeah, Vince.
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: I think if Vince would have played another year, he
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: definitely would be he'd be the best. But even when
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: he did what he did in the Rose, the Rose
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: was legendary. That's that's gonna that's gonna go down as
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: best performance by a college football player ever. That was
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: legend and that and that's almost like I always look
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: at that game as like when lebron beat the Warriors. Yes,
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: because USC back then was like the dream team. They
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: had Lendel White and Reggie Bush and Matt Lioner. It
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: was like two winners on what the fuck is going
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: on here? Yeah, it's great. By the way, Lendel White's
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: a wild dude, man him in person, crazy guy. Yeah.
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: I think when we think of college football, Vince Young
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: coming to the NFL, he run Rookie of the Year
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: and then man, I feel like the NFL I think
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: Jeff Fisher did him dirty. You mentioned it earlier about
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: about running backs and longevity is so much running backs,
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: any position but quarterbacks running backs. It's fit. It's just
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: do you have a good fit with the system. Do
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: you have to coach with the head coach if you
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: if there's a good fit, you can play for it. Yeah.
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: I feel like Vince Young could have maybe went to anywhere. Okay.
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: I feel like Jeff Fisher was was hard on him
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: man like. So the story is that the owner, the
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: owner from Houston, and that's where that's where view eyes
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: from when it said we're drafting him, and and coach
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: Fisher was like, no, I don't want them. They bumped
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: heads and so he kind of held that against Vince
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: the whole his whole career, which is trash. This is
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: trash to me, Like young players in the NFL, college
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: players and college kids. Coaches have such a pivotal role
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: in their lives, and I've seen coaches ruin ruin young men.
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: Who do you who do you think right now is
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: an example of that that you feel like is like,
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: fuck it, You're just in the wrong place. Hmmm, that's
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: a good question. It's probably a quarterback. I would say
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: Sam Darnold would be the first person that comes to mind,
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: just because he's probably had some of the worst coaching.
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: I don't know that Adam Gaves was fucking horrible. Adam
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: Case is bad. Is bad. Yeah, I think Drew Luck.
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: Drew Luck. Okay, I think Drew Luck. I mean I
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: saw him playing. He was great in college. I saw
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: him playing college. He's got an arm He's got so
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: much talent. It's just him finding finding the right coach
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: in the right system. M M. Because he seems like
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: the kind of the kind of player who really will
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: put the work in, will study. Yeah. Yeah, And you know,
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: I think that that The Cardinals are a perfect example
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: of why the coach matters. It's like, oh, they literally
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: like they hired that guy and they're like, yo, you
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: need your like you know, it's a fit thing. It's
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: like it's everything I'm telling you. If you look you
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: look at you look at Belichick and Brady. I mean,
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: that's that's the best example. And I think you know,
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: when when Brady went to Tampa early in the year,
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: what did you notice, Yeah, it was kind of dicey.
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: It was kind of dice r and the Arians don't
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: give a fuck. He'll say some ship in the press conference,
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: they got everyone talking like are they beefing? What the
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: fuck is going on in Tampa? But they got on
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: the same page and exactly, and I think that's probably
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: the most talented offensive team payt Mags ever had. You
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: can say West Walk or Randy Moss, but like top
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: to bottom and now all the receivers got stars and
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: then and then his running backs are crazy, two of them.
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: Two of them are crazy. Yeah, and Lashawan McCoy's like
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: the third guy. Yeah, exactly, Yeah, it's it's wild. Well, look,
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: I appreciate you for coming through. Anything else you want
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: to promote while you're here, man to my podcast. So
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: I just I just started a podcast, oh ship. It's
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: called Curious Questions with Ricky Williams. And one of the
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: things that I got into in the middle of my
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: career was astrology. And so I do I bring people on,
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: I look at their astrology chart and then I just
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: asked some questions based off of what I see. So astrology,
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: when you say this, because I'm not an astrology guy,
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: so you got to help educate me. This is kind
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: of like a this is not like like a scorpio. Yeah. Yeah,
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: So I'm gonna okay, So I lean on the belief
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: that I don't I don't. I don't know about that ship,
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: is what I'm saying. Yes, I don't know if it's bullshit.
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: I mean, people say, oh, you're in a queris this
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: means I'm like, does it? Yeah? How do you know?
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: But with that being said, give me a like a
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: breakdown of astrology and why you're so passionate about it.
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: It's a very interesting thing to be passionate about. Yeah.
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: So so when I when I retired in two thousand
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: and four, I just left everything. Yeah, and right before
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: I retired, I realized that everything in my life had
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: been built on me being a football player, and I
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: gave all that up, and so I was kind of
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: I was lost. And I met this lady and she
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: I heard I was a football player, and so she
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: got curious about my astrology, and so I gave him
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: my information and she looked at the chart and it's
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: just a strange lady. I didn't even I just met
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: and she looked at my chart and we had this
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: conversation and based off my chart, I just felt like,
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: this woman knows me better than my closest friends. And
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: so I just got really curious and it just gave
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: me a lot of clarity and direction in a time
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: where I was lost. And so I got curious and
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: just started studying it. And the more I studied, I
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: just started to notice, Wow, there's just some crazy, like
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: crazy connections going on. And the more I studied, I
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: just started to notice more crazy connections. And then I
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: just started talking to people about their charts and people
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: got something out of it, and so I just kept
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: doing it. So your podcast, you look at people's charts
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: and based on that you can kind of hit them
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: with some questions, some interesting questions. Wow. Yeah, so an example.
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: And I don't like there's a whole chart. It's not
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: just you know, being an Aquarius. There's a whole bunch
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: of other stuff going on. But like if in general, right,
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: if I was had an Aquarius on, I would talk
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: about that. You know, for Aquarius, a lot of it
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: has to do with with learning to to not care
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: what other people think. Okay, I mastered that, yeah exactly,
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: And so I would I would ask I would ask
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: questions about stories because I want the listeners. Because when
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: someone says they're inn Aquarius, it doesn't really describe you.
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: It describes, It describes the dramas that you're going to
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: experience in life and the dramas that aquariums experience. What
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: is the drama of being an outsider and learning how
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: to be comfortable thinking for yourself. That whole process and
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: how it looks for everyone is going to be different
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: a lot of times with an aquarius, and probably eighty
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: percent of them. This works because the aquarius is about
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: questioning authority, and so typically like one of the one
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: of the one of the parents, one of the parents,
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: you know, as a difficult time with the with the aquarium. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: I know that's I question authority my whole life. Yeah,
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: I'm always butting heads with bosses a bit. What the
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: fuck did this motherfucker god is doing over here? Yeah? Yeah,
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: like what the hell? Yes, damn. When you when you
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: left football for those years, it was it was everyone
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: was surprised, caught off, Like, you know, you were what
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: like five years, six years in the league, six five
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: years and you leave football. You know, I think a
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: lot of people the perception was you turned into like
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: this hippie guy, right, I did, right, So you turned
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: into this hippie guy. You learned about aquarius and astrology.
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: Uh did was there anything else spiritual that you went
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: through during that time that that helped shape you? Yoga, yoga, meditation,
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: holistic healing, like, all of that, all of it came
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: in that time, in that time period, and it surprised me.
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: I didn't know I was a hippie until I just
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: I ended up in this town in Australia called Byron Bay,
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: and I just felt you ended up there. I just
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: I mean, so it's kind of it's kind of funny.
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: I mean, it's kind of funny where I ended up
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: this teleport over. I had a friend. I had a
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: friend who right after I retired, she said she was
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: traveling to Samoa. So I was like, shit, I don't
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: got nothing to do. Let me go with you. And
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: so we went to Samoa and then we went to
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: Fiji and then she started tripping. So I was like, bye,
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: and I tripping on hallucinogenic just freaking out on acting
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: like you know anyways, and so I was like, you know,
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: I don't need this, and I was, Okay, what am
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: I going to do now? I'm in the middle of
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: the Pacific, you know, And then I and then I
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: was like, oh, Ship, Australia is like really close, and
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: I want to go back there because I had a
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: good time. And so I flew back to Sydney, hung
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: out in Sydney for a couple of days, and then
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: I got this idea of this town called Byron Bay
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: that I always wanted to go to. And I never
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: really been on a greyhound except from San Diego to
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: El Centro and so I, and in Australia the greyhound
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: is like everybody travels in the greyhound. So I took
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: a Greyhound from Sydney to this town and Byron Bay,
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: and I thought I'd be there for a couple of
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: days because I wanted to photograph a lighthouse that was there,
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: and ended up standing there for a couple of months.
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: And I learned there that I was, that I was
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: a hippie, and then from there on I came back
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: and started doing hippies. I became a vegetarian, started doing yoga.
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: Are you vegetarians? No, not anymore. You got to meet man.
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: After I retired, I moved back to Texas and it's
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: too hard. Yeah, yeah, barbecue, some of that barbecue in Texas. Man,
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: I had some pork belly. That was like life changing.
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: A couple of weeks ago. I was like, why can't
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: they make it like that in California. It's just it's
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: just that. So now you're not you're you're back to
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: eating meat. Yes, we always Mike Tyson always describes how
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: he found like d MT. Yeah, did you ever get
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: into any of the haucinogenic side of things? Ayahuasca? Yeah?
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: So ayahuasca is something you did. You did ayahuasca? Yeah,
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: me too. I really want to do it. Yeah, it's
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: an experience. You gotta have a shaman and like it's helpful.
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: I think it's better if you have a shaman. And
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: I say do it at least how many times? Have
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: you done it? Seven times? I say do it at
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: least at least four times because the first time, lot
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: of times it's just getting your bearings. But you got
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: to do it a couple of times. Really did you
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: do it? Like did you go to Costa Rica? Where
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: were you at? I did it? I did in southern California.
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: This there's a shaman from Hawaii that he would come
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: here every year for six months and he would do
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: pretty much every every weekend. He would do a Friday
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: Saturday Wow, And so I did it with him a
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: couple of times. I have another friend in Tapanga who
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: has ceremonies at his house. I did it a couple
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: of times. But I would love to go to the
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: Amazon and do it. I heard it it's hardcore there,
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: but but I want to. I want to have that
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: experience they you know, I had a friend of mine
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: who did it, who was addicted to cocaine and uh,
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: you know, had an issue with you know, sleeping with
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: every woman he met and gambled like a crazy person
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: and he did two days straight and it like changed
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: his life. He said, it was like doing thirty years
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: of therapy. It shows you stuff. But the truth is
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: you have to be ready to You have to be ready.
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: You want to see that. You got to be ready
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: to see it. But it shows it shows you stuff.
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: What's do you do? You remember the craziest thing that
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: you got out of it or that you saw while
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: you were while you were on eyewash Because I'm really
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: curious into trying it. So for me, you know, I'm
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: more kinesthetic. So it was more of the feeling of
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: it and when you drink the drink, like, the experience
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: was you can feel like going into your stomach and
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: like pulling like stuff out of your body. And then
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: most people purge. And so when you go to ayahuasca,
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: you know, you sit down in your spot and they
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: give you like a bucket. They call it purging because
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: it's not really pukey because you're not supposed to eat.
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: You're not supposed to eat going into it. Yeah, and
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: so it's really it's stuff like it's coming out of
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: your mouth, it's coming out of your eyes sometimes coming
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: out of your ears. That happen to you, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: And and I you know, I had like I don't
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: know if it was past lives up, but I had,
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: you know, images of being like a Native American Native
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: American warrior and having to choose between going to war
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: and and going to train with the shaman. And that's
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: kind of that's kind of how my life has kind
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: of been, you know, where I did the warrior football
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: player thing, now I'm kind of moving towards the shaman. Yeah.
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: Someone my friend said he felt he said there was
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: a lady like a voice her or whatever he was saying, right,
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: and and he was like he was like, there was
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: like trauma that I had as a child. I don't
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: even remember, but it was it was holding me down
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: without even knowing it. And he was like, it was
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: almost like they committed surgery on me and they cut
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: it out of me. Yeah, that shit's crazy. Do you
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: did you hear like a lady or like, because I've
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: heard that multiple times from people that there's like, you know,
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: some something that's talking to you, talking you through it,
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: or like so, yeah, so I haven't heard a lady,
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: but but you know, for me, it's in ayahuasca, an
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: animal will come like a wolf came one time, in
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: a white rhino came other time. Wow. But you know,
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: it's it's kind of that same state that you experienced
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: when you daydream or even sometimes a night dream. You
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: know that that's yeah, and it shows you, it shows
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: you stuff. Did it change you? It did it? Did?
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: You know? But I've been doing this work for a
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: long time, like meditation, like doing a lot of retreat
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: exactly exactly, so when it comes up, it's like, okay, okay, okay,
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: this this is this is what's next. This is what
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: I'm moving through right right right right. That's fucking wild man.
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: You gotta do it, man, I know I know, I
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: need to. One of my friends had someone in Malibu
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: that does it. Yeah, but I definitely I want to
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: do it, like so make sure I'm with the right person.
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: I mean the group, the group you do it with.
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: This is extremely important. Yeah. Yeah, that's wild. Well, look,
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: thank you for coming through. Of course, your podcast How

- 1:29:23Speaker 1: the only town in America that has statues of twupot heads,
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: me and Willie Nelson. Mm hmm. Willy Nelson. Do you
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: ever smoke with Willy I have fire? Yeah. Do you

- 1:29:36Speaker 1: done snoop. Oh and have you ever met Wiz? I
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: haven't met. Will make that happen please? Yeah? Yeah, yeah,
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: he's a legend, the only Yeah, I think I've hit
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: all the bucket list rappers I just haven't smoked with
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: with like Willie Nelson, or I smoke with one of
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: the Marley brothers, which is cool. I haven't even done that,
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: or one of one of his sons, Steven Marley. I
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: smoke with him in Boise Idol. Yeah. They had this
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: big ass like monster jar on the bus of just
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: fucking just the craziest weed. And it was like you
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: gotta Bob Marley tattoo, right yeah? Yeah yeah, And it
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: was like, Okay, I spoke with the Marley man. I'm
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: chilling crazy. By the way, Rest in peace to Bunny Whaler.
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: That's how we're going to end the podcast. Ricky Williams
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: Man
