- 0:00Speaker 1: It's showtad, folks. But first dad jokes.
- 0:05Speaker 2: I think I'm just gonna.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Have one kid though in the bedroom, one because you
- 0:08Speaker 1: have more than one.
- 0:08Speaker 3: And then you got a side which when you like better,
- 0:10Speaker 3: that's always me. Oh it's true, your parents lie about it. Oh,
- 0:15Speaker 3: we like them all the same. No you don't. You
- 0:19Speaker 3: love them all of course, But there's always that one kid.
- 0:22Speaker 3: You know, if he got lost, you'll look for him.
- 0:33Speaker 1: I'm not right away.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Wake up, Daddy, shoul.
- 0:43Speaker 1: That's the sound of familiarity right there. That's the sound
- 0:46Speaker 1: of home. That's the sound of Dad's home. This is
- 0:49Speaker 1: the Dad's Home Podcast.
- 0:51Speaker 2: I bower.
- 0:51Speaker 1: That is Chad of For those of you who are
- 0:55Speaker 1: only listening to the podcast right now, you don't see us,
- 0:59Speaker 1: but we are also a we're recording this on streamyard,
- 1:01Speaker 1: so you'll see it at YouTube for Dad's Home Podcast.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Please feel free to check that out. Plus we posted
- 1:06Speaker 1: at real guy radio dot com. But it sounds so
- 1:10Speaker 1: good to hear the dad jokes and the music, mister Chad.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Two long years, two long years since we last did
- 1:18Speaker 1: a Dad's Home podcast.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Well, you know, my time in prison was brief, and
- 1:24Speaker 2: and you know I learned I learned a lot. I
- 1:26Speaker 2: definitely was rehabilitated, so and you know.
- 1:29Speaker 1: I believe the letter I received from you behind bars
- 1:32Speaker 1: also involved the word loving for your time there. I
- 1:36Speaker 1: believe there was you did. There was some sensitivity what
- 1:39Speaker 1: you weren't expecting on the sensitivity front for sure.
- 1:42Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, and I appreciate you sending me the lifstick.
- 1:44Speaker 2: That helped a lot.
- 1:45Speaker 1: You welcome anything that I could do to make that
- 1:47Speaker 1: stay better for you.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it was. It was helpful.
- 1:50Speaker 1: It's been two years since we've done a Dad's Home podcast,
- 1:52Speaker 1: and things have changed over the past two years. For instance,
- 1:55Speaker 1: for those of you who are watching this video on YouTube,
- 2:00Speaker 1: you see the background behind me looks like I'm in
- 2:02Speaker 1: a Tom Petty video or something. I don't know what
- 2:04Speaker 1: it is. Maybe are you.
- 2:06Speaker 2: In a moving van? Yes, we're we're driving across country.
- 2:10Speaker 1: I am trapped with John Candy getting getting back home.
- 2:14Speaker 2: It's right.
- 2:15Speaker 1: It doesn't holler like it right, I mean it's it's
- 2:17Speaker 1: I got blue and black checkers behind me. Plus I've
- 2:20Speaker 1: got moving blankets in a green screen, which just feels
- 2:24Speaker 1: awful the whole way around. But over the past two years,
- 2:26Speaker 1: I got a studio at my house down in the basement,
- 2:29Speaker 1: and I'm doing the show from the studio. Last time
- 2:31Speaker 1: we were doing the show, I was upstairs, shadows on
- 2:34Speaker 1: the well. This is the basement. That'll be the I'm
- 2:36Speaker 1: on the second floor upstairs, and now I'm in the
- 2:39Speaker 1: basement doing the show in a studio down here. So
- 2:42Speaker 1: that's one of the things that has changed. In the bed.
- 2:44Speaker 2: You were on a higher planet and uh, yeah, as
- 2:46Speaker 2: you can see behind me, I moved to the beach.
- 2:48Speaker 1: You did. You got some waves behind you? Then I do, Yeah,
- 2:50Speaker 1: I did.
- 2:51Speaker 2: I've I'm living on the coast now. I was not really, No,
- 2:57Speaker 2: I still live in the same shithole I did before.
- 2:59Speaker 2: I just got a background.
- 3:00Speaker 1: You got water in text it's I get it. You
- 3:02Speaker 1: got to get to it. It's not right, it's not
- 3:04Speaker 1: immediate right there, but you've got water in texts. I
- 3:06Speaker 1: just thought maybe you've got a beach house or something.
- 3:09Speaker 2: Yeah. I wake up every day to this view. Nice,
- 3:13Speaker 2: that's a view. Yeah, I mean it's it's just a
- 3:15Speaker 2: painting in my bedroom.
- 3:16Speaker 1: But it looks good. It looks good.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it's it's it's soothing.
- 3:21Speaker 1: It's been two years. Mister Chad I see. First of all,
- 3:24Speaker 1: I'll just open by saying what we used to do
- 3:27Speaker 1: for Every Dad's Own podcast. I've got my vodka tonic
- 3:30Speaker 1: to start the show with. And what is it that
- 3:33Speaker 1: you're enjoying this? So?
- 3:34Speaker 2: Uh tis the season, it's the holidays, and one of
- 3:38Speaker 2: my favorite holiday drinks is is this one right here?
- 3:40Speaker 2: This is a apple cider margarita.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Apple cider margarita.
- 3:46Speaker 2: Yeah, you got you?
- 3:47Speaker 1: All right? So it's basically is it just cider and tequila,
- 3:50Speaker 1: is or anything else?
- 3:50Speaker 2: It's cider, tequila, a little bit of orange liqueur, some
- 3:55Speaker 2: lime juice.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Right, So a little nave syrup, does it? Do you
- 3:59Speaker 1: have a guy?
- 4:00Speaker 2: Know? The apple syrup covers covers the diabetes portion of
- 4:05Speaker 2: the drink. Yeah, well that's good. Yeah right, it's you
- 4:10Speaker 2: get diabetes and a little buzz. It's really it's awesome.
- 4:13Speaker 1: I mean, this is that time of year for me
- 4:15Speaker 1: as we're as we're getting dangerously close for we're recording
- 4:18Speaker 1: this right after Thanksgiving, so it's get dangerously close to
- 4:20Speaker 1: December here, and for me, this is always white Russian
- 4:23Speaker 1: time of year. This is tick into that. I love
- 4:25Speaker 1: those this time of yere. But I'm gonna have to
- 4:27Speaker 1: try me an apple cider margarita. That sounds I will, well,
- 4:31Speaker 1: we can post the recipe for folks. Yeah, I will
- 4:34Speaker 1: send it to you.
- 4:36Speaker 2: There are a million different recipes for this particular drink.
- 4:39Speaker 2: I think the one that we we honed in on
- 4:42Speaker 2: those super simple, super yummy.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree. Also, will throw this up on a
- 4:46Speaker 1: poll right now where we still exist on X We
- 4:48Speaker 1: still have a Dad's Home podcast on X although I'm
- 4:51Speaker 1: very rarely there. Again two years things have certainly changed
- 4:54Speaker 1: in the social media world, and X is I think
- 4:58Speaker 1: on the way out at least for me is and
- 5:00Speaker 1: paying attention there. But we'll post a poll there and
- 5:03Speaker 1: find out, you know, is is the better drink for
- 5:05Speaker 1: the holidays? A white Russian or an apple cider margarita?
- 5:09Speaker 1: Which is? Which is? Which is more needed for the holidays?
- 5:13Speaker 1: This time?
- 5:13Speaker 2: I think, I think you and I need to bring
- 5:16Speaker 2: you know, some flow charts and graphs and stuff to
- 5:19Speaker 2: really kind of have a battle to side, you know,
- 5:22Speaker 2: pros and cons on that one. That's that sounds like
- 5:24Speaker 2: a future episode.
- 5:25Speaker 1: And maybe there's maybe there's something else. Maybe we'll even
- 5:27Speaker 1: throw the vodkatonic in there, just for fun seas and
- 5:30Speaker 1: see what the what the Dad's Home listeners are saying
- 5:32Speaker 1: as we're kind of reintroducing because officially we're you know,
- 5:35Speaker 1: the big news here, if we could get to a
- 5:38Speaker 1: drum roll, is that we are going to have a
- 5:41Speaker 1: twenty twenty five season number one, two, season three, Mister Chat,
- 5:47Speaker 1: season three of the Dad's Home Podcast. So we're working
- 5:50Speaker 1: on that diligently. This is the first one, just kind
- 5:52Speaker 1: of catching up and kicking things back off to where
- 5:54Speaker 1: we had been a couple of years ago. I see
- 5:58Speaker 1: a hat a new hat from you on your nog
- 6:00Speaker 1: in there as.
- 6:01Speaker 2: A matter of fact, and that flows right nicely into
- 6:03Speaker 2: the dad thing. So as uh fewer or previous listeners
- 6:10Speaker 2: might know, both of us are softball dads. Yes, mine
- 6:13Speaker 2: has grown up become quite large and now, as a
- 6:16Speaker 2: senior in high school, large not not I mean tall like.
- 6:21Speaker 1: I just I hear Kate right now, going dad, don't
- 6:25Speaker 1: those words god? Large? Come on?
- 6:29Speaker 2: I mean, Okay, she's still wears a medium. Okay, let's
- 6:32Speaker 2: let's be honest.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Point take and yes, but she is.
- 6:34Speaker 2: She's five foot ten now, dude.
- 6:36Speaker 1: Oh that's I think. Well, here's what I used to
- 6:39Speaker 1: if I look if you look at my driver's license,
- 6:40Speaker 1: my driving's licenses, I'm five foot ten. Yeah, I saw
- 6:44Speaker 1: again two years is a lot has happened. I saw
- 6:48Speaker 1: a doctor recently for my physical. They came and told
- 6:51Speaker 1: me I was five nine. I'm like, what, how did
- 6:53Speaker 1: you shrink? How did I shrink?
- 6:55Speaker 2: Osteoporosis?
- 6:56Speaker 1: Baby, dude, that can't happen at this age. I'm not kidding.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Sixty Yeah, well, yeah, welcome, welcome to the show.
- 7:05Speaker 1: Can I expect over the next couple of years, I'm
- 7:06Speaker 1: going to lose another inch or two. That's not good?
- 7:09Speaker 2: That's yeah. This is this is the major leagues of aging.
- 7:14Speaker 2: That's what it is. So yeah, you and I are
- 7:15Speaker 2: were in the bigs when it comes to getting old.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Well, and I saw over the past two years for
- 7:20Speaker 1: the junior slash senior years of Kate. I saw some
- 7:25Speaker 1: home runs, some taters that were being hit by her
- 7:28Speaker 1: high quality game and ship being played by Kate. Yep,
- 7:32Speaker 1: pitch is like a star.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Yep. She had a great, super great junior year playing
- 7:39Speaker 2: high school ball and has had a couple of really
- 7:42Speaker 2: nice select seasons. This fall, she had multiple offers from
- 7:48Speaker 2: multiple schools, a couple two or three in the East Coast,
- 7:53Speaker 2: and they were really exciting schools, except for they were
- 7:57Speaker 2: on the East Coast.
- 7:59Speaker 1: There's this whole thing for those of you who have
- 8:01Speaker 1: kids that haven't gotten to the point of college yet,
- 8:03Speaker 1: there's this whole thing called out of state tuition you
- 8:05Speaker 1: have to deal with at that time. Like, not only
- 8:07Speaker 1: is there, you know, your normal run of the mill
- 8:10Speaker 1: tuition that you have to pay for for college, unless
- 8:12Speaker 1: of course you're getting a scholarship from the school, but
- 8:15Speaker 1: even then it may only be a partial scholarship. But
- 8:17Speaker 1: the out of state tuition, forget about it. It's mostly
- 8:21Speaker 1: like double whatever it is for in state tuition. So
- 8:24Speaker 1: to think, oh, my kid could go to NYU or
- 8:28Speaker 1: yea whatever, good luck, it's going to be double the
- 8:31Speaker 1: price for whatever it is that you're looking to.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Pay unless you can skim off of people's cryptocurrency transactions,
- 8:40Speaker 2: or are potentially a mobster or have a marijuana dispensary
- 8:46Speaker 2: or any number of things, or are a straight up
- 8:48Speaker 2: criminal like Robin Banks.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Yeah, pan for.
- 8:51Speaker 2: College is like a legit impossible hill Piliclon.
- 8:54Speaker 1: I've got you and I both have daughters who are seniors.
- 8:57Speaker 1: They both know softball, they played softball together for a
- 8:59Speaker 1: little bit in Texas there. I have watched Office Space
- 9:03Speaker 1: again recently. I'm interested in trying to see if I
- 9:05Speaker 1: can skim just a penny off of each transaction from
- 9:08Speaker 1: somebody on cryptocurrency here to be able to pay for
- 9:11Speaker 1: my daughter's school. That'd be fantastic.
- 9:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I've been working on it. Not a coder,
- 9:16Speaker 2: not a hacker, so I'm not making any progress, but
- 9:21Speaker 2: working on it, working on it.
- 9:22Speaker 1: So this this hat, this school that's just going to
- 9:26Speaker 1: go to.
- 9:26Speaker 2: Yeah, this is so we we're super lucky, blessed that
- 9:32Speaker 2: she decided to go to school about an hour and
- 9:36Speaker 2: a half south of us in San Antonio, Trinity.
- 9:39Speaker 1: University, San Antonio. I love it.
- 9:41Speaker 2: I love the she got got an offer to play
- 9:44Speaker 2: down there, and the coach, the program, the school, everything
- 9:47Speaker 2: is a great, great fit, especially the hour and a
- 9:51Speaker 2: half away part. I mean, you know, get to watcher.
- 9:54Speaker 2: She can come home on weekends. There's a boyfriend in
- 9:58Speaker 2: the picture now he's probably going to be up the
- 10:00Speaker 2: road at A and M. So I can only imagine
- 10:03Speaker 2: that also was on the spreadsheet of things that she
- 10:06Speaker 2: wanted to you know.
- 10:08Speaker 1: Commutable, commutable to parents, to do laundry and have some
- 10:11Speaker 1: food and then commutable to the boyfriends as well.
- 10:13Speaker 2: Right right, yeah, all those all those things. So we're
- 10:16Speaker 2: we're super excited. It has been a journey. If any
- 10:21Speaker 2: parents out there, dad's out there, have a child who
- 10:25Speaker 2: plays high school athletics or or hopes to or hopes to,
- 10:31Speaker 2: the recruiting process is it's a grind and it has
- 10:36Speaker 2: been a learning, huge learning curve because it's it's like parenting, right,
- 10:41Speaker 2: you come home from the hospital, you get this little baby,
- 10:43Speaker 2: and you're like, what the hell am I supposed to
- 10:45Speaker 2: do with this?
- 10:45Speaker 1: Where's the directions letting me out of a hospital with
- 10:48Speaker 1: this thing?
- 10:48Speaker 2: I know? Yeah, no directions you know, And so you
- 10:52Speaker 2: got to figure out while you go. Same thing with
- 10:54Speaker 2: getting your kid recruited.
- 10:56Speaker 1: Uh.
- 10:56Speaker 2: And so it's been a great journey and it's finally over,
- 10:59Speaker 2: which is super exciting. It takes a lot of pressure
- 11:01Speaker 2: off the kid off, the pressure off of us. Now,
- 11:05Speaker 2: Like I said, I'm working on scamming little little bits
- 11:08Speaker 2: of off of top of cryptocurrency to pay for school.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Although I'm also blessed she's a smart kid, so we
- 11:17Speaker 2: get a couple of bucks for that. It's a private
- 11:19Speaker 2: school too, so it's like no in state tuition break nothing,
- 11:22Speaker 2: It's just like, okay, it costs a lot.
- 11:25Speaker 1: That's one of the things that I found as well
- 11:27Speaker 1: with this all is it like, I'm so my daughter
- 11:29Speaker 1: played softball with Chad's daughter and and has been playing
- 11:33Speaker 1: in high school and has been playing varsity for all
- 11:35Speaker 1: the years, just like just like Kate had been. And
- 11:38Speaker 1: yet she's making the decision now that she thinks she's done.
- 11:41Speaker 1: She's like, I've really I played for so long, practiced,
- 11:45Speaker 1: went to tournaments, and going to do it obviously for well,
- 11:48Speaker 1: we say obviously for the senior year, but I'm not
- 11:52Speaker 1: even sure that they're going to have enough kids to
- 11:54Speaker 1: have a full team.
- 11:55Speaker 2: Ooh.
- 11:56Speaker 1: It's one of these things. And I'm so I'll get
- 11:58Speaker 1: into this in future episod as well, but I'm at
- 12:01Speaker 1: a place where we don't know if she's gonna have
- 12:04Speaker 1: enough players to man a team coming up here in
- 12:07Speaker 1: the spring, where we won't know until we get closer
- 12:10Speaker 1: to the spring. But right now it's not looking particularly good.
- 12:12Speaker 1: They had five seniors that graduated last year, so it's
- 12:15Speaker 1: at this point it's not looking particularly good as far
- 12:18Speaker 1: as you know, we haven't seen through this high school,
- 12:21Speaker 1: but they've had a fantastic football program in the state
- 12:24Speaker 1: and all of that here in Michigan, but they don't
- 12:27Speaker 1: have any sort of feeder program coming in from anywhere
- 12:31Speaker 1: for softball. And I don't know if you've found this
- 12:33Speaker 1: in Texas. It's totally different world in Texas. I will
- 12:35Speaker 1: tell you that softball programs in Texas are so competitive
- 12:39Speaker 1: and so amazing as far as the organizations go. I
- 12:42Speaker 1: can't imagine you not being able to have enough students
- 12:45Speaker 1: to have a varsity baseball team, let alone probably more
- 12:48Speaker 1: often than not on some form of JV team for
- 12:50Speaker 1: most of the schools as well. But in our school,
- 12:52Speaker 1: we don't have a JV team. We don't have enough
- 12:54Speaker 1: for that. We don't have enough for a varsity team
- 12:56Speaker 1: quite possibly. So we don't know what's going to have
- 13:00Speaker 1: going into this senior year as TV, if there's even
- 13:03Speaker 1: going to be a team. So she's kind of like
- 13:06Speaker 1: this place where I've been playing travel for so long,
- 13:08Speaker 1: I've been playing fallball for so long, I'm done. And
- 13:11Speaker 1: so when she's looking at schools. While we did do
- 13:14Speaker 1: initially the process through one of those sporting recruiting agency
- 13:18Speaker 1: places that you pay monthly or whatever to help you
- 13:21Speaker 1: and put you in touch with the coaches and you
- 13:23Speaker 1: reach out and they reach out to you and you
- 13:25Speaker 1: post videos and all of that kind of stuff. While
- 13:28Speaker 1: we did do that and she did hear from some schools, largely,
- 13:31Speaker 1: we ended up doing it probably later than most people
- 13:34Speaker 1: would and didn't get any big schools that she'd wanted to.
- 13:37Speaker 1: Any of the top schools that she wanted to get
- 13:39Speaker 1: into weren't reaching out to her. They had already signed
- 13:42Speaker 1: kids from a couple of years ago. So that's one
- 13:44Speaker 1: of the things that you see as you're going through
- 13:46Speaker 1: this process. Moreover, is I found that, at least for Charlie,
- 13:50Speaker 1: for my daughter, was that she was just solely focused
- 13:53Speaker 1: on the academic portion of things, Like she's got really
- 13:55Speaker 1: good grades, honors classes, and National Honor Society, all of
- 13:58Speaker 1: those kinds of things. And she's seen now as she
- 14:01Speaker 1: did her early applications, those those are starting to pay
- 14:04Speaker 1: off for her because she's getting colleges that are interested
- 14:07Speaker 1: in her and that have accepted her based upon her application.
- 14:11Speaker 1: That are places that she wanted to go based upon
- 14:13Speaker 1: academics and not based upon softball at all. So that's
- 14:16Speaker 1: a big plus. And and and for her, like I said,
- 14:20Speaker 1: I think she's she's like, this is my senior year.
- 14:22Speaker 1: I'd love to just play ball my senior year and
- 14:24Speaker 1: then the following summer and then be done with the
- 14:26Speaker 1: whole thing. Yeah.
- 14:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I Our experience has been interesting. You're right here
- 14:34Speaker 2: in Texas, softball's nuts and I think a large that's
- 14:38Speaker 2: largely due to the fact that the weather down here
- 14:40Speaker 2: is playable basically ten months out of the year. And
- 14:45Speaker 2: you know, some of it you have to play through
- 14:47Speaker 2: either really cold or really hot, but you know, you're
- 14:49Speaker 2: it's not snow on the ground, it's not ice, et cetera.
- 14:52Speaker 2: Occasionally there's a flood in the field is full of water.
- 14:55Speaker 2: But besides that, but anyway, we I've seen sort of
- 15:02Speaker 2: the same fall off despite the amount of kids that
- 15:05Speaker 2: are playing softball down here, the fall off between the
- 15:11Speaker 2: kids who are really into it, passionate, love the sport,
- 15:16Speaker 2: want to play in college, and the kids who just
- 15:20Speaker 2: you know, get into high school and they're like, I'm done.
- 15:23Speaker 2: She's had four four kids on her team who are
- 15:28Speaker 2: all seniors who quit this year. So four seniors who
- 15:33Speaker 2: would have been on varsity would have been playing. All
- 15:35Speaker 2: of them said we're done playing, not gonna play varsity softball.
- 15:40Speaker 2: So there's and that's a long way of saying this,
- 15:45Speaker 2: kids who love the sport and want to keep playing
- 15:47Speaker 2: for the love of the sport playing college, and there
- 15:51Speaker 2: are multiple opportunities for kids to play in college. The
- 15:55Speaker 2: thing that I look, we learned a lot of the
- 15:57Speaker 2: process too, is if you really love the game and
- 16:00Speaker 2: you care about softball and not really like, hey, you
- 16:03Speaker 2: know what college is as a step to my career,
- 16:09Speaker 2: going the JC route, going to a junior college. Playing
- 16:12Speaker 2: softball at the junior college level gets you into this
- 16:15Speaker 2: group of kids who all of a sudden, those elite
- 16:18Speaker 2: D one schools are looking at because now with the
- 16:21Speaker 2: transfer protocol, protal portal, you know, the teams are much
- 16:31Speaker 2: more fluid in terms of what the roster looks like.
- 16:33Speaker 2: It's not just hey, we get these kids when they're freshmen.
- 16:35Speaker 2: They follow us all the way for through you know,
- 16:37Speaker 2: through four years. Duh. So that's one route for a
- 16:41Speaker 2: lot of kids to go through. And that was on
- 16:43Speaker 2: our list of things for Kate to do. Kate, like
- 16:46Speaker 2: your kid, Charlie is, is you know academic smart? Can
- 16:50Speaker 2: you know she could go to college and get scholarships
- 16:53Speaker 2: based on that alone. She wanted to add the softball
- 16:57Speaker 2: experience to that as well. So for every kid, it's
- 17:01Speaker 2: it's different, right. A lot of kids are just like
- 17:04Speaker 2: burnt out done, and you can tell, like those kids
- 17:07Speaker 2: start to fall off around fifteen sixteen, and then it
- 17:10Speaker 2: continues all the way till they're eighteen. And so you're
- 17:12Speaker 2: left with these kids like my kid, who's just like
- 17:14Speaker 2: and I love this, let's go. And but there are
- 17:19Speaker 2: plenty of ways for kids to get into college if
- 17:21Speaker 2: that's something they want to do. Our journey though, was
- 17:25Speaker 2: academics first and then softball was second. And it's funny
- 17:31Speaker 2: her catcher last year as a kid who's playing at
- 17:34Speaker 2: Texas Tech this year catching for Nigerie Kennedy like the
- 17:39Speaker 2: number one catcher for nigeram nice freshman like and she's
- 17:44Speaker 2: a baller. She's so fun to watch. Anyways, that was
- 17:47Speaker 2: kid's catcher last year. She you know, she had that
- 17:53Speaker 2: D one route kind of kind of planned out, and
- 17:56Speaker 2: she was recruited early, like as a junior. A lot
- 17:59Speaker 2: of kids that Kate goes to school with and are
- 18:01Speaker 2: talented get recruited. Kid on her high school teams going
- 18:04Speaker 2: to ut you know that that kind of stuff, right,
- 18:08Speaker 2: But then you have the kids who are like Kate,
- 18:10Speaker 2: who are like uber nerd smart kids. They get recruited
- 18:14Speaker 2: late to all these you know M I. T s
- 18:17Speaker 2: and you know, Northwestern they're they're a little bit more
- 18:21Speaker 2: d one. But Harvard's all the you know, those kinds
- 18:25Speaker 2: of schools. Trinity is another one of the schools, you know,
- 18:27Speaker 2: highly academic school. So yeah, they all recruit late. They wait,
- 18:31Speaker 2: they know, because you know, all the kids that are
- 18:34Speaker 2: super smart tend to get recruited later. So we learned
- 18:37Speaker 2: that early on too, like, don't worry, there's plenty of
- 18:40Speaker 2: time for you to get recruited. Kate's current coach even
- 18:43Speaker 2: said the same thing, like, hey, look, I've had kids
- 18:47Speaker 2: recruited the summer before school started, like within weeks of starting.
- 18:52Speaker 2: So but man, we digress. That's a lot of talk
- 18:54Speaker 2: about Well.
- 18:55Speaker 1: I was gonna say it just to kind of offer
- 18:57Speaker 1: that just a just a quick element to as well
- 19:01Speaker 1: that that I when Kate, sorry, Charlie and I went
- 19:04Speaker 1: to a Northwestern softball camp, uh, the softball coach there
- 19:09Speaker 1: was very clear about how there's you know, all these
- 19:12Speaker 1: predetermined times, like if you haven't heard by June of
- 19:15Speaker 1: your junior year, blah blah blah, you're not going to
- 19:18Speaker 1: get the recruiting that you're looking for. And and coach
- 19:21Speaker 1: Doran had said it with Drown and said at one
- 19:23Speaker 1: point in time that that they got one of their
- 19:26Speaker 1: best players at Northwestern some three days before the start
- 19:31Speaker 1: of the falls.
- 19:31Speaker 2: That's crazy, I know.
- 19:33Speaker 1: So they had, you know, while they had a bunch
- 19:34Speaker 1: of other people recruited. They ended up with one of
- 19:36Speaker 1: those situations that that we've seen happen so often where
- 19:39Speaker 1: a player go gets has committed to Northwestern in this case,
- 19:43Speaker 1: and then uncommits and goes someplace else like takes you know, gigot,
- 19:47Speaker 1: Ohio State or whatever, whatever the deal is. It opens
- 19:50Speaker 1: up a door in Northwestern. They have been looking at
- 19:52Speaker 1: this girl, this girl hadn't committed. They go out of
- 19:55Speaker 1: their way, make a big pitch, and they get her
- 19:57Speaker 1: literally just as school's about to start, and she ends
- 20:00Speaker 1: up being one of the best players that that school
- 20:02Speaker 1: has seen during her time there. So again it's it's
- 20:05Speaker 1: not necessarily the way it usually gets done or the
- 20:09Speaker 1: progress that you've heard from all of these different places
- 20:11Speaker 1: if you are dealing with the recruiting process. But there
- 20:15Speaker 1: are ways around that. And I think you and I
- 20:17Speaker 1: have talked about this off the air as well. I
- 20:20Speaker 1: think that's gonna happen more frequently. Oh yes, this portal
- 20:23Speaker 1: and the NIL starts to work its way through. So
- 20:26Speaker 1: I think there's gonna be opportunity there. And while my
- 20:29Speaker 1: conversation with Charlie has been largely look, if you don't
- 20:33Speaker 1: go in after your senior year, if you're not playing
- 20:35Speaker 1: softball at a collegiate level after your senior year, it's
- 20:39Speaker 1: gonna be next to impossible for you, like your sophomore
- 20:42Speaker 1: year at college. Just go okay, well maybe I'm ready
- 20:43Speaker 1: to play now. Not gonna happen. You aren't going to
- 20:46Speaker 1: have that luxury to be able to do that.
- 20:48Speaker 2: So well, and look, and for kids that love the game,
- 20:53Speaker 2: that going to the junior college route is so fantastic.
- 20:57Speaker 2: That is like I've talked to D one coaches who said,
- 21:01Speaker 2: we spend more time looking at JC kids than we
- 21:03Speaker 2: do at kids who are juniors and seniors because we
- 21:06Speaker 2: know that is a you know, they've had college experience
- 21:11Speaker 2: at school, they've had college experience playing ball, and they're
- 21:14Speaker 2: much more likely to be successful in college, you know, sophomore, junior,
- 21:18Speaker 2: senior than like taking a taking a shot on a
- 21:22Speaker 2: kid who's coming out as a senior. And so it's
- 21:27Speaker 2: one of those things where the kids themselves have to decide.
- 21:30Speaker 2: And I've asked Kate. I ask Kate almost every time
- 21:33Speaker 2: we go to a tournament, like you love this game? Still?
- 21:36Speaker 2: You love this game? Right? Like we're doing the right thing,
- 21:39Speaker 2: Like we can quit any time. The minute you stop
- 21:42Speaker 2: loving this game, we quit.
- 21:44Speaker 1: We stop.
- 21:44Speaker 2: Yeah, And I think every parent the best advice I
- 21:48Speaker 2: can give other parents in this situation is ask your
- 21:51Speaker 2: kid that question a lot that is so important for them,
- 21:54Speaker 2: and have an honest dialogue about it, Like don't push
- 21:58Speaker 2: your kid into it, and don't let your kid think
- 22:01Speaker 2: that that's what you want them to do. Let them
- 22:05Speaker 2: lead you. And that's been a super important thing I
- 22:09Speaker 2: learned early on, like don't push let her drive it,
- 22:13Speaker 2: and if she says she still loves it, then let's go.
- 22:16Speaker 2: I'm all in, Like I'll drive you to hell and
- 22:18Speaker 2: creation in Colorado and fucking Indiana and over. We got
- 22:21Speaker 2: to go this summer. And I also, I also I
- 22:26Speaker 2: wanted to share this with you. I like to quote
- 22:29Speaker 2: Blue Dough on this one.
- 22:32Speaker 1: You do you know, okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, uh you know.
- 22:35Speaker 2: It's it's never it's not over till we say it's over, right,
- 22:38Speaker 2: right do we do? We quit when the Germans bomb
- 22:41Speaker 2: World Harbor, right right? So I'm just saying, Blueto, he
- 22:45Speaker 2: knows what he's talking about.
- 22:46Speaker 1: He does, he does. He's got to hang on. It's
- 22:50Speaker 1: not over till it's olf f over, it's over. And
- 22:51Speaker 1: look with anything here, I mean, it would be virtually
- 22:54Speaker 1: impossible for Charlie at this point to to jump into
- 22:57Speaker 1: a softball program, like she's like, oh my god, this scene.
- 23:00Speaker 1: Your year was fantastic on the team and the summer
- 23:04Speaker 1: travel team was amazing and she hit six hundred and whatever.
- 23:08Speaker 1: You know, like, yeah, there's no way that that's gonna happen. You,
- 23:11Speaker 1: there's always an opportunity that you could be a walk
- 23:14Speaker 1: on at some whatever school you end up going to.
- 23:16Speaker 1: You could certainly try, but likely not going to happen
- 23:19Speaker 1: that you get certainly any starting position from that.
- 23:21Speaker 2: Well not I mean not if you want to go
- 23:24Speaker 2: to like a you know, four year D one school,
- 23:26Speaker 2: that's absolutely true. But if the kids like hey, I'm
- 23:29Speaker 2: not done playing, Like what I would say to Charlie.
- 23:33Speaker 2: Not my kid, but if I was having this conress,
- 23:35Speaker 2: if you me, Kate and Charlie were sitting around, Yeah,
- 23:37Speaker 2: what I says, Charlie, are you done playing? Or do
- 23:40Speaker 2: you love the game still? And if you love the game,
- 23:42Speaker 2: there's a way there's a school out there that wants
- 23:44Speaker 2: you to play for them, right. I mean, I can't
- 23:46Speaker 2: tell you, honestly, how many junior colleges have reached out
- 23:50Speaker 2: to Kate even after she's committed, like, hey, you want
- 23:53Speaker 2: to come play with those please?
- 23:54Speaker 1: And Charlie and had those as well, and she said yeah.
- 23:56Speaker 2: And the greatest thing about that too, that I found
- 23:59Speaker 2: and I try to steer as many people dis direction
- 24:01Speaker 2: as I possible. Can go get your school paid for it,
- 24:06Speaker 2: like JC will pay for everything. The kid who is
- 24:10Speaker 2: the pitcher for Kate's high school went to a junior
- 24:13Speaker 2: college in Florida for two years, lived on the beach,
- 24:17Speaker 2: went to the beach, played softball. They won the Junior
- 24:20Speaker 2: College World Series. She's now at some D one school.
- 24:27Speaker 2: I'm going to drop link on the name, but anyway, so,
- 24:30Speaker 2: but they saw her play in that at that level
- 24:33Speaker 2: and they're like, come on, let's go. And she's got
- 24:35Speaker 2: a full ride now at a D one school. So
- 24:39Speaker 2: it looks it just comes down of like do I
- 24:41Speaker 2: want to go to college or do I want to
- 24:42Speaker 2: play ball?
- 24:43Speaker 1: Well, and if you don't know, like if you're if
- 24:44Speaker 1: you don't know what you want to do in college,
- 24:47Speaker 1: to go to a junior college, shame money. Like my
- 24:49Speaker 1: next my nephew right at COVID was accepted to a
- 24:52Speaker 1: SUH lives in California. He was except accepted to Arizona State.
- 24:55Speaker 1: COVID hit. He couldn't go to Arizona State. So for
- 24:57Speaker 1: those two years of COVID, he did junior college, didn't
- 24:59Speaker 1: He's he's coming out as a junior in a ton
- 25:02Speaker 1: of debt, right, you know, it's home taking care of
- 25:05Speaker 1: He's got all this stuff. He went down to as
- 25:06Speaker 1: soon as he graduate. As soon as he left the
- 25:08Speaker 1: two years of JC, he went down to UCSB and
- 25:11Speaker 1: Santa Barbara. So he's going to school in Santa Barbara
- 25:13Speaker 1: for junior A terrible school, right, terrible place too to
- 25:16Speaker 1: be riding your bike around Santa Barbara.
- 25:20Speaker 2: I have a really good friend of mine went to
- 25:22Speaker 2: school there and I used to go visit her all
- 25:23Speaker 2: the time.
- 25:24Speaker 1: I'm like, touch a beautiful So anyways, but that's the
- 25:27Speaker 1: thing is that you you you you do JC, if
- 25:30Speaker 1: you want to play ball, you give yourself the ability
- 25:32Speaker 1: to compete on that level, still develop and become a
- 25:35Speaker 1: star level athlete that D one schools are going to
- 25:38Speaker 1: be looking at right there coming out of JC, and
- 25:40Speaker 1: you might get two years of a free ride and
- 25:42Speaker 1: that helps the school, it helps you out, and you've
- 25:44Speaker 1: done two years of you know, your undergrad work relatively cheaply,
- 25:48Speaker 1: so it's a huge plus that way, if that's the
- 25:50Speaker 1: way you want to go. And I've had those conversations
- 25:53Speaker 1: with my daughter as well, and I think I think.
- 25:56Speaker 2: That do you need me to start texting her like
- 25:58Speaker 2: little hints like.
- 25:59Speaker 1: Look, I tried, Chad. I just think and this is
- 26:03Speaker 1: one of those things like you said, this is this
- 26:04Speaker 1: isn't about me, So I can't make that decision for her.
- 26:08Speaker 1: This is her decision. And as you know, she had
- 26:12Speaker 1: quit softball before and then made her way back to it,
- 26:15Speaker 1: and I think this is just I think she feels
- 26:17Speaker 1: like she's ready to move into focusing on the career
- 26:22Speaker 1: and the education and making sure that her grades were
- 26:26Speaker 1: good enough to get her to a point where you know,
- 26:29Speaker 1: she's gotten a couple of schools that are that have
- 26:30Speaker 1: offered like sixty grand intuition through scholarships on an academic level.
- 26:36Speaker 1: So there's like they're they're good happening. I know there
- 26:40Speaker 1: are good things that are happening for her on that front.
- 26:42Speaker 1: And I told her at the same time, like a
- 26:44Speaker 1: couple of schools, like you haven't really reached out to
- 26:46Speaker 1: them about softball. There's one's a D one school, but
- 26:48Speaker 1: it's a lower level D one, you know, as far
- 26:50Speaker 1: as where they compete. She could still go and reach
- 26:53Speaker 1: out to them and talk with them. Because my thing
- 26:55Speaker 1: is this, and this I believe this to be true.
- 26:57Speaker 1: Maybe you'll have a different you know, look of things
- 26:59Speaker 1: for k maybe you'll be like, this is absolutely the truth.
- 27:02Speaker 1: But I also think going to college where you've got,
- 27:05Speaker 1: you know, a bunch of other students from all over
- 27:07Speaker 1: the states that are coming together at that college, it's
- 27:10Speaker 1: tough enough to find friends as it is sometimes going
- 27:12Speaker 1: into college softball sisters, people that are playing softball together,
- 27:18Speaker 1: Like I know when we went to Northwestern again, not
- 27:20Speaker 1: to bring up Northwestern all the time, but it was
- 27:22Speaker 1: one of the camps we went to where they talked
- 27:24Speaker 1: about the girls on that team, how they welcome the
- 27:27Speaker 1: new girls on day one. They take them as like
- 27:30Speaker 1: a group of two or three of those players will
- 27:32Speaker 1: walk that player, that new player freshman around the campus
- 27:36Speaker 1: and take them to her classes, take her to, you know,
- 27:39Speaker 1: wherever she needs to be and see things. They'll walk
- 27:42Speaker 1: her through everything as just a group of friends would
- 27:44Speaker 1: do as sisters would do, and they have become that
- 27:46Speaker 1: tight from playing softball. So my concern for my daughter was,
- 27:49Speaker 1: here's a chance for you to have sort of a
- 27:52Speaker 1: built in friendship, which her closest friends right now are
- 27:54Speaker 1: people that she's played softball with. Here's a chance for
- 27:57Speaker 1: you to have that built in friendship as you are
- 27:59Speaker 1: getting to this brand new sometimes overwhelming depending on how
- 28:03Speaker 1: big the campus may be or how small it may
- 28:06Speaker 1: be overwhelming situation where you want to meet new people
- 28:09Speaker 1: and you think there'd be this opportunity because everybody's coming
- 28:12Speaker 1: in as a freshman there, this would be an opportunity
- 28:14Speaker 1: to have sort of built in friends. So that's that's
- 28:17Speaker 1: kind of one of the pitches that I was trying
- 28:18Speaker 1: to make a little easier for her. So there's no
- 28:21Speaker 1: you know, there's no anxiety on the friend front when
- 28:23Speaker 1: you're there, or hopefully less anxiety on the.
- 28:25Speaker 2: Front, you know. So it's only been three four weeks
- 28:32Speaker 2: that we last visited Trinity and talked to the coach
- 28:38Speaker 2: and met some of the players and did all that
- 28:40Speaker 2: kind of stuff as like a as part of the process,
- 28:44Speaker 2: and Kate in that process got to go to a
- 28:50Speaker 2: class with a couple of the softball players and went
- 28:55Speaker 2: to lunch with two or three other softball players, and
- 29:01Speaker 2: so it was already a connection there happening before she
- 29:05Speaker 2: even got there. And it was to add it to
- 29:10Speaker 2: what you're saying, is it was clearly, very clear that
- 29:13Speaker 2: there's a sisterhood there. And that was one of the
- 29:15Speaker 2: things as a parent, like I look at that and
- 29:17Speaker 2: I'm like, yeah, have some of that, Yes, get that
- 29:20Speaker 2: because you know, when you pick a team that's not
- 29:25Speaker 2: your high school team, like a select team, right, chemistry
- 29:29Speaker 2: and team camaraderie and culture and all those things are
- 29:33Speaker 2: so important. And I asked Kate after she went to
- 29:37Speaker 2: the class and lunch with those girls and said, you know,
- 29:40Speaker 2: how was it. She goes, Oh, those are my people?
- 29:42Speaker 2: Like I fit right, in there, and and that is
- 29:47Speaker 2: that is one of the great things about like college
- 29:49Speaker 2: athletics too, I think, is that there is the ability
- 29:52Speaker 2: to have that instant family, the instant friends, the sisterhood,
- 29:56Speaker 2: like you said. And as a parent, right when you
- 30:01Speaker 2: send your kid off to school, like already I'm freaking
- 30:04Speaker 2: out as a kid. Who I've got a kid who's
- 30:07Speaker 2: a senior, right, who she's starting that like break, I'm
- 30:12Speaker 2: becoming independent, Like hey dad, I'm going out. Okay, where
- 30:15Speaker 2: are you going. I'm going with my boyfriend and my friends. Okay,
- 30:19Speaker 2: when are you coming home later? Right? It's like it's
- 30:22Speaker 2: like this, this is just weird, like you know used
- 30:25Speaker 2: to like I remember when you were ten and anyway,
- 30:30Speaker 2: as a senior, that's happening. And so it's preparing me for,
- 30:35Speaker 2: you know, six months from now when I'm gonna cry
- 30:38Speaker 2: like a baby.
- 30:38Speaker 1: When you drop when you ball like a little kid.
- 30:41Speaker 2: Yeah, it's curl up in the back seat of the car.
- 30:43Speaker 1: And start starting with prom and graduation and your way
- 30:49Speaker 1: to dropping her off at school. Yeah, I'm I'm very
- 30:51Speaker 1: much looking for But that thing.
- 30:55Speaker 2: Being able to see that as a parent helps that anxiety.
- 30:58Speaker 2: I have to drink less I have to take less Sanax.
- 31:01Speaker 2: It's it's it helps, Yes, definitely helps.
- 31:04Speaker 1: It definitely does help. So look at it's I think, uh,
- 31:08Speaker 1: for parents that are going to go through this or
- 31:10Speaker 1: have that process down the road for themselves, realize you're
- 31:15Speaker 1: gonna get through it. It's there's a lot to pick
- 31:17Speaker 1: up on. There's a lot to learn from, uh. Chad
- 31:19Speaker 1: and I will go through more in greater detail of
- 31:22Speaker 1: what those situations feel like, look like, what you could
- 31:25Speaker 1: expect from it. To try to help you guys out
- 31:27Speaker 1: and be a point of contact for questions that you
- 31:29Speaker 1: may or may not have. You could always reach out
- 31:31Speaker 1: to us at Real Guy radio dot com. That's the
- 31:34Speaker 1: home for the Dad's Home podcast. I got videos there,
- 31:36Speaker 1: we got emails, We've got any way that you need
- 31:38Speaker 1: to get a hold of us, mailing list, all of
- 31:40Speaker 1: that kind of stuff. We'll get into more of that
- 31:41Speaker 1: as things start to develop into season number three for
- 31:44Speaker 1: the Dad's Home Podcasts. Well, what we'll do is take
- 31:46Speaker 1: a quick break when we come right back. We got
- 31:48Speaker 1: a little dad vice that is going to be I
- 31:52Speaker 1: don't want to say that this Tyson, and do exactly
- 31:54Speaker 1: what you were just saying there, Chad because I don't
- 31:56Speaker 1: want to. I don't want to lay this a case,
- 31:58Speaker 1: but it does. But there's a there's this certain a
- 32:01Speaker 1: question that we'll bring to the table here and I'm
- 32:02Speaker 1: gonna look for one solid piece of advice from both
- 32:05Speaker 1: of us, and then we'll go to the tape with
- 32:07Speaker 1: a couple of different things to look at, including the
- 32:09Speaker 1: one reason if you were looking for any these days,
- 32:12Speaker 1: if you were looking for a reason to not have
- 32:14Speaker 1: an affair in your marriage, I've got one of them.
- 32:18Speaker 2: For you, damn it, because I was looking for a reason.
- 32:21Speaker 2: We're this is one that's not well.
- 32:23Speaker 1: I'll I mean, I'll let you take a look at
- 32:25Speaker 1: it and decide. I know, but I'll let you take
- 32:27Speaker 1: a look at it and decide. But we will all
- 32:29Speaker 1: get to view this in just a little bit here.
- 32:31Speaker 1: I think it's definitely one of the but probably the
- 32:34Speaker 1: number one reason right now why you would go yeah, thanks,
- 32:38Speaker 1: but no thanks. Coming up here at the Dad's Home Podcast,
- 32:41Speaker 1: Let's make a call to the bullpen.
- 32:43Speaker 4: And it's your comic wely B Daniel Tosh.
- 32:48Speaker 5: It's been at quarterbacks, Brett Farv. I love that everybody
- 32:52Speaker 5: gave him so much grief to retire Brett Farv should retire?
- 32:56Speaker 5: Are you out of your mind? He makes twelve million
- 32:58Speaker 5: dollars a year to play again. Yeah, I'm gonna keep playing. Hey, Brat,
- 33:05Speaker 5: the whole world thinks she should retire. You said twelve million, right, Yeah,
- 33:08Speaker 5: they can go themselves. I would never quit.
- 33:15Speaker 1: Are you kidding me?
- 33:16Speaker 2: What about four years?
- 33:17Speaker 5: He's not good enough to be a starter, but he
- 33:18Speaker 5: could be a backup in the NFL.
- 33:19Speaker 1: Do you know what that pays?
- 33:20Speaker 5: About four to five million? Oh, yep, I'm gonna do that.
- 33:24Speaker 5: About ten years, not good enough to be a backup,
- 33:26Speaker 5: but he could be on the practice squad. Do you
- 33:28Speaker 5: know what that pays? About eight hundred and fifty thousand? Yep,
- 33:31Speaker 5: I'm gonna do that as well. Play forever. It'd make
- 33:34Speaker 5: the game more enjoyable if people weren't allowed to retire.
- 33:37Speaker 5: Athletes don't want to quit either. See some seventy year
- 33:39Speaker 5: old return of punt. He gets hit, he explodes, He
- 33:44Speaker 5: dies on the field with some honor, some comic relief.
- 33:49Speaker 1: The Dollar Show.
- 33:51Speaker 6: This is a song, ladies, But fellas.
- 34:00Speaker 7: Don't always have to fuck her heart. In fact, sometimes
- 34:05Speaker 7: that's not right to do.
- 34:08Speaker 8: Some times you've got to make some lak and fucking
- 34:13Speaker 8: give her some smoothes too.
- 34:16Speaker 7: Sometimes you got to squeeze. Sometimes you got to see please,
- 34:24Speaker 7: sometime you got to see.
- 34:27Speaker 6: I'm gonna fuck you shortly, I'm gonna screw you gently,
- 34:35Speaker 6: i wonna harm you sweetly, harmona, ball you discreetly.
- 34:45Speaker 8: And then you see here I've put your flowers. And
- 34:50Speaker 8: then you say, wait a minute, Sally, I think I
- 34:54Speaker 8: got something in my teeth, but you get it out
- 34:57Speaker 8: for me.
- 34:59Speaker 6: That's fucking team work.
- 35:02Speaker 1: What's your favorite position? That's cool with me.
- 35:06Speaker 6: It's I'm my favorite, but I'll do it for you.
- 35:10Speaker 1: What's your favorite dish.
- 35:12Speaker 8: I'm not gonna cook your butt or order it from Sanzibar.
- 35:16Speaker 1: And then I'm on love.
- 35:18Speaker 8: You really, and I fucking fuck you.
- 35:22Speaker 7: Discreetly, and then a fucking bone you can clearly, But
- 35:28Speaker 7: then I'm on a bud.
- 35:54Speaker 1: Welcome back to the Dad's Whole Podcast. All right, mister Chad.
- 36:00Speaker 1: Time to get some of the business that we usually
- 36:02Speaker 1: take care of. The that's on podcasts. Dad Vice is
- 36:04Speaker 1: one of them. On the way We've got to the tape,
- 36:06Speaker 1: and probably what I'm gonna say is one of, if
- 36:10Speaker 1: not the number one reason why you don't want to
- 36:12Speaker 1: have that affair. If you've been thinking about it, if
- 36:14Speaker 1: you were at the bar for a very busy pre
- 36:15Speaker 1: Thanksgiving night and you've got approached by somebody, you're like,
- 36:19Speaker 1: maybe no, this is gonna clearly set you up for failure.
- 36:23Speaker 1: And I'll explain why coming up in just a minute.
- 36:25Speaker 2: Here let's go.
- 36:26Speaker 1: We've got video footage of it, just to highlight that
- 36:29Speaker 1: for everybody. So that said, before we do, let's get
- 36:31Speaker 1: to some dad device, which I think is something we
- 36:34Speaker 1: like to do here and this one is definitely an
- 36:36Speaker 1: important one. And I found a great little Reddit world
- 36:42Speaker 1: where people are looking for advice from pars like maybe
- 36:44Speaker 1: they don't have a father anymore, maybe their dad never
- 36:47Speaker 1: spoke to them, or it goes back to my whole concept,
- 36:49Speaker 1: mister Ted, I told you about one time where I
- 36:51Speaker 1: wanted to have a business called rent a Dad for
- 36:53Speaker 1: the soul mass of Like if you like you had
- 36:55Speaker 1: to change the brakes on your car, but your dad
- 36:57Speaker 1: never showed you how to do it, and you want
- 36:59Speaker 1: to learn how to do it, but you don't have
- 37:01Speaker 1: a father figure in a life and more, you could
- 37:03Speaker 1: rend a dad that would come over. Who have you
- 37:05Speaker 1: bought that yet I haven't yet, and I think, what
- 37:08Speaker 1: are you doing? I think somebody's gonna steal the idea now,
- 37:11Speaker 1: But I think that there's you know, a concept there
- 37:13Speaker 1: that it could be any of that. It could be
- 37:15Speaker 1: maybe you want to learn how to cook a steak
- 37:18Speaker 1: on the grill, and you don't have a father figure,
- 37:20Speaker 1: you can hire a dad to come over for an
- 37:22Speaker 1: hour teach you all the prep work, how to cook
- 37:24Speaker 1: it what you suppose. So all that's that, that's my
- 37:25Speaker 1: idea of concept, right.
- 37:27Speaker 2: I mean dad jokes, you know of it, practical practical
- 37:30Speaker 2: jokes where you're like, you know, fixing electricity in their
- 37:32Speaker 2: house and pretend to get shocked.
- 37:35Speaker 1: Absolutely, that kind of stuff. So this is where this
- 37:38Speaker 1: is where we feel like this is an opportunity for
- 37:40Speaker 1: us as dads to step up in somebody who doesn't
- 37:43Speaker 1: have that dad in their life anymore. And in doing so,
- 37:46Speaker 1: I brought one of the toughest questions to our table.
- 37:50Speaker 1: So this says it's me again. As I said before,
- 37:53Speaker 1: my dad or parents per se, never gave me the talk.
- 37:59Speaker 1: Oh here I'm taking up the courage to ask, is
- 38:02Speaker 1: there any advice from men to give me? Again? I
- 38:05Speaker 1: am a fourteen year old boy. Now, first thing, I
- 38:09Speaker 1: just want to he typed in. I am and fourteen
- 38:12Speaker 1: year old boy. And my first concept is if you
- 38:14Speaker 1: can't get that correct, don't worry about getting laid right now.
- 38:19Speaker 1: Proper grammar is going to is what's gonna attract the
- 38:22Speaker 1: ladies to you.
- 38:23Speaker 2: You know what, though, these days, bro, the grammar is
- 38:27Speaker 2: on the outs. Like if you watch the way your
- 38:29Speaker 2: kids text, sure Be's grammar doesn't exist anymore.
- 38:33Speaker 1: No, look now does you?
- 38:34Speaker 2: And I know it. I am a huge fan of
- 38:37Speaker 2: grammar ly, so I'm all about the periods and the
- 38:39Speaker 2: capitals and all that kind.
- 38:41Speaker 1: Of I and I listen. I agree with you on
- 38:43Speaker 1: and we all know how important pronouns are these days.
- 38:45Speaker 1: But I would also say that that at the same time,
- 38:48Speaker 1: while your six pack abs do look good and your
- 38:50Speaker 1: zero percent body fat, when you go to speak, I
- 38:55Speaker 1: am and fourteen year old boy, you're gonna turn some
- 38:58Speaker 1: chicks off. They're not really the billion Sorry did you say?
- 39:01Speaker 1: And I'm and fourteen year old boy?
- 39:03Speaker 2: Let's I mean hold on, like we need some context here.
- 39:06Speaker 2: Maybe this is a Russian kid. I am, I'm fourteen
- 39:09Speaker 2: year old.
- 39:09Speaker 1: I am and fourteen year old boy. I'm looking to
- 39:12Speaker 1: know insight on how what he's good in the talk?
- 39:17Speaker 1: I mean, you don't know, so right, I figured, let's
- 39:20Speaker 1: let's let's figure this out with each of us giving
- 39:22Speaker 1: one just to this fourteen year old kid who's out
- 39:25Speaker 1: there on Reddit and wants to he didn't have a
- 39:26Speaker 1: talk with his parents for whatever reason. Maybe they died,
- 39:29Speaker 1: maybe they don't speak the same language. I don't know,
- 39:32Speaker 1: but he's looking for some insight. What what do you
- 39:35Speaker 1: think your number one thing to tell the kid at
- 39:39Speaker 1: the at the talk would be because I've got I've
- 39:43Speaker 1: got I've got one that we we talk about and
- 39:45Speaker 1: we play comedy from which I think is important to note.
- 39:48Speaker 1: And as a girl, dad, I think this is very important.
- 39:52Speaker 1: So I'll start us off, which is simple. It's two
- 39:54Speaker 1: simple words. Don't rain?
- 40:00Speaker 2: Okay, sure, don't.
- 40:02Speaker 1: That goes with us? That's yes, But look, I think
- 40:05Speaker 1: it's common knowledge. But I also think so, so I
- 40:08Speaker 1: based I'm a fourteen year old boy is common knowledge.
- 40:12Speaker 1: So I'm gonna say it, and I'm sorry if this
- 40:15Speaker 1: sounds do not do not follow through in the rape consent.
- 40:21Speaker 1: You must get the consent, you must ask for yes,
- 40:25Speaker 1: you must wait for yes before you move forward, not
- 40:27Speaker 1: maybe a little beating between. You must wait for yes.
- 40:32Speaker 1: No that is not yet full throated yes, I am
- 40:35Speaker 1: ready give it to me. That's what you have to
- 40:37Speaker 1: wait for. You can't. This is not there's no gray
- 40:40Speaker 1: area here, there's no in between. So if you think
- 40:43Speaker 1: she's consented, guess what You've gotta wait and find out
- 40:46Speaker 1: for sure. You gotta ask questions. And I know that
- 40:49Speaker 1: that turns some people off. And there are plenty of
- 40:51Speaker 1: women who are like I like an aggressive guy, yeah,
- 40:53Speaker 1: but they also don't like to get raped. So I
- 40:55Speaker 1: would make this suggestion to a fourteen year old boy,
- 40:58Speaker 1: a don't rape, and what that means is get the consent.
- 41:02Speaker 1: So if you haven't had the time, things are going well,
- 41:04Speaker 1: maybe you guys have been dating for a while, maybe
- 41:06Speaker 1: you feel like this is just the next natural step.
- 41:08Speaker 1: Maybe she's coming on to you, any of that, and
- 41:10Speaker 1: all of that could be happening in one date. I'm saying,
- 41:14Speaker 1: don't rape, and the way you prevent that ask for consent.
- 41:18Speaker 1: That's what I say is one of the most important.
- 41:20Speaker 1: If I had a boy, I would I would say
- 41:23Speaker 1: that that is the number one thing to not do
- 41:26Speaker 1: and make sure you get consent. Don't rape and get consent.
- 41:32Speaker 2: God damn it, Bower, why'd you take my answer?
- 41:37Speaker 1: I got another one if you wanted to. I felt
- 41:39Speaker 1: like I had eight of these, but I don't want
- 41:40Speaker 1: to take one for you.
- 41:42Speaker 2: Just text it to me, so it sounds like I
- 41:43Speaker 2: came up with it.
- 41:44Speaker 1: Okay, I'll let me do that. Text you real quick.
- 41:49Speaker 2: Hold on, here we go.
- 41:52Speaker 1: Uh. I'm trying to figure out a way to not
- 41:56Speaker 1: sound like a dick when I'm saying it, don't rape.
- 41:59Speaker 1: There you go. That's another don't rape was pretty dickish.
- 42:02Speaker 1: You gotta admit that was a pretty dickish statement to
- 42:04Speaker 1: make for me.
- 42:04Speaker 4: But yeah, yeah, okay, So as a girl, dad, it's
- 42:12Speaker 4: funny I had this conversation this morning with my wife.
- 42:15Speaker 1: You did.
- 42:16Speaker 2: Kate has a boyfriend and nothing ruins a softball career, uh, college,
- 42:27Speaker 2: wanting to be a pregnancy, well right, all those things
- 42:31Speaker 2: like a pregnancy and so and and not to get
- 42:34Speaker 2: too political about this too, but man, you get pregnant
- 42:38Speaker 2: in the state of Texas. Oh kind of fucked. Yeah.
- 42:41Speaker 2: So so yeah, birth control is okay? That that would
- 42:44Speaker 2: be my other.
- 42:46Speaker 1: Don't rape.
- 42:48Speaker 2: Yeah, once you get the consent, put on the RAND code.
- 42:52Speaker 1: That's the thing, and be okay with that, be prepared
- 42:55Speaker 1: for that, be okay with that. Don't be one of
- 42:57Speaker 1: those dudes. It's like, oh, but it feels so much
- 42:58Speaker 1: better when we all know that, we all get it.
- 43:01Speaker 1: But you know what's the best. The best is not
- 43:03Speaker 1: ruining your life because your your significant other is giving
- 43:07Speaker 1: birth to a child. That's those are that's two lives
- 43:10Speaker 1: as probably three. I'm gonna go out and a limb
- 43:13Speaker 1: and say, that's three lives you're saving talking about the
- 43:16Speaker 1: child too, by just choosing to put the on.
- 43:21Speaker 2: And I would multiply that by whatever the parents are
- 43:24Speaker 2: involved in that situation. So let's say you're the Russian
- 43:27Speaker 2: kid who doesn't have parents, so we'll erase those, but
- 43:31Speaker 2: the girl might have a mom and a dad, so
- 43:34Speaker 2: there's two more lives. You haven't fucked right.
- 43:35Speaker 1: And look and the team Kate softball team, they need
- 43:38Speaker 1: her to pitch, they need take all those lives and
- 43:42Speaker 1: fuck with that too. Because you didn't put a condom
- 43:44Speaker 1: on because oh, just not feel as good. Stop it,
- 43:47Speaker 1: grow up, put a rubber on, don't rape, consent. Those
- 43:54Speaker 1: are the three things this kid needs to.
- 43:56Speaker 2: Know as a as a as a you know, a girl, dad,
- 44:00Speaker 2: I'm like, don't do it at all, but sure, I'm
- 44:02Speaker 2: also a realist. I'm also a realist, and I know,
- 44:05Speaker 2: I know that kids at this age will have sex.
- 44:08Speaker 1: All let's get real for just a real quick second. Here,
- 44:11Speaker 1: have you had this happen to you yet? Because this
- 44:14Speaker 1: just happened to me a couple of weeks ago. Oh shit,
- 44:16Speaker 1: here we go where Charlie was throwing up nauseous. It
- 44:22Speaker 1: turns out it was just the stomach flu. But did
- 44:25Speaker 1: I think about asking my wife?
- 44:28Speaker 4: She she could that be?
- 44:31Speaker 1: Because I don't know what's happened? Is she not? What's
- 44:34Speaker 1: going on? Because I'm that's my concern right at this point,
- 44:37Speaker 1: She's it's her senior year. I don't want her to
- 44:40Speaker 1: I don't want that to happen. I don't want that
- 44:42Speaker 1: to happen to her senior year, freshman year of college.
- 44:44Speaker 1: I don't need, no, she doesn't need any of that
- 44:45Speaker 1: to happen right now.
- 44:46Speaker 2: Look, and you and I are both boys, And I
- 44:49Speaker 2: don't know how your high school was, your high school
- 44:51Speaker 2: experience was, but mine was definitely there was some sexual
- 44:56Speaker 2: activity that took place. Oh, yeah, oh yeah, Okay, you're
- 45:00Speaker 2: just stretching that out there.
- 45:01Speaker 1: Say look, for those you didn't see on the video,
- 45:03Speaker 1: I'm vehemently agreeing with mister dad here, and.
- 45:06Speaker 2: So I'm just saying that that we can only assume
- 45:09Speaker 2: in this day and age, especially with the Internet, that
- 45:11Speaker 2: that shit happens even more than it did when these
- 45:15Speaker 2: old white haired dudes. So I'm a realist. I know
- 45:19Speaker 2: that shit happens, and I tell my kids that all
- 45:21Speaker 2: the time, right, I say, hey, look, I know that
- 45:23Speaker 2: this is going to happen in some way, shape or form.
- 45:26Speaker 2: And as awkward as it is to hear from your
- 45:28Speaker 2: dad talking to a girl to say these things, this
- 45:32Speaker 2: is going to happen, we know it will. So don't
- 45:35Speaker 2: get pregnant, right, so you know, talk to mom and
- 45:37Speaker 2: dad about it, those kinds of things.
- 45:39Speaker 1: Understand it a theorically out there, like it's it's just
- 45:42Speaker 1: kind of all, well, somebody might get is pregnant out there.
- 45:44Speaker 1: We just take steps to make sure it's not you.
- 45:46Speaker 1: That's all I'm saying.
- 45:47Speaker 2: Yeah, that's that is one hundred percent, hundred percent. That's
- 45:51Speaker 2: the top to bottom left right. That is absolutely one great,
- 45:55Speaker 2: great advice for a kid, who's a Russian who's obviously,
- 45:59Speaker 2: you know, not in this country illegally, legally.
- 46:02Speaker 1: Probably we get our applause from the judges on the
- 46:04Speaker 1: don't and wear a condom? You're welcome fourteen year old boy.
- 46:09Speaker 1: You imagine that's all he gets, man, that's all he gets,
- 46:13Speaker 1: is that?
- 46:14Speaker 2: Well, I mean he's on Reddit. Maybe you should just
- 46:17Speaker 2: chime in there, don't rape wear a condom?
- 46:19Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I could very well could.
- 46:21Speaker 2: See what happens. What I'd love to see is what
- 46:23Speaker 2: the other redditors are going to say to your response
- 46:25Speaker 2: to that.
- 46:25Speaker 1: You know, that's a very good point.
- 46:26Speaker 2: I'm sure they're all like Kelly, Yeah, he's right, absolutely.
- 46:29Speaker 1: Just to find out, it might be worth while adding
- 46:31Speaker 1: that into there. So but that's again, feel free anytime.
- 46:34Speaker 1: It doesn't have to be a fourteen year old kid
- 46:35Speaker 1: looking for sex talk, but any parental advice. We're here
- 46:38Speaker 1: for you at the Dad's Home podcast. And you know,
- 46:40Speaker 1: if you're listening with your kids, which.
- 46:43Speaker 2: You should be, Wow, I know, wow, you have an
- 46:46Speaker 2: open type of family relationship.
- 46:48Speaker 1: But maybe look, if you walk away learning something and
- 46:51Speaker 1: they walk away learning something, here, let it be don't
- 46:54Speaker 1: and wear a condom?
- 46:57Speaker 2: After this whole episode.
- 46:59Speaker 1: All right, Chad, let's quickly go to the tape. Bring
- 47:02Speaker 1: the absurd year holds. Let's go, let's go, and let's
- 47:07Speaker 1: go to I can't do it. We'll do it live obviously.
- 47:15Speaker 2: Loaded in there.
- 47:16Speaker 1: We'll do it a lot.
- 47:18Speaker 2: We apologize, we don't have that clip from the radio station.
- 47:21Speaker 1: Do it live. I can all write it, and we'll
- 47:23Speaker 1: do it a lot. And thank you. It sucks the tape.
- 47:29Speaker 1: Don't lie the tape. Don't lie, mister Chad. We've got
- 47:32Speaker 1: tape to prove it here. Now, I'm not saying that
- 47:36Speaker 1: this is the only reason why you should rethink having
- 47:39Speaker 1: that affair. Like, let's say, Thursday is Thanksgiving, right, we
- 47:43Speaker 1: just had that happen. It's just Wednesday night, the biggest
- 47:45Speaker 1: bar night of the year for anybody and.
- 47:47Speaker 2: Everybody, mostly college kids. But you know that's why I go,
- 47:51Speaker 2: because sure those college girls like old dudes like me.
- 47:55Speaker 1: They love the dad bought. The ladies love the dad bod.
- 47:58Speaker 1: I don't even think that.
- 48:00Speaker 2: I have too. I don't know it's in the dirty clothes,
- 48:02Speaker 2: but I have that. You know. Yeah, he's loved to
- 48:04Speaker 2: dad boy.
- 48:04Speaker 1: Which I don't think has been a thing for the
- 48:06Speaker 1: past two years. Frankly, I gotta be honest with you.
- 48:08Speaker 1: I think we kind of died off two years ago.
- 48:10Speaker 2: But that meant I am I'm a daily eight a
- 48:12Speaker 2: dollar short.
- 48:12Speaker 1: Then this is what one woman did when she found
- 48:16Speaker 1: out that her husband was having an affair for the
- 48:19Speaker 1: better part of two years. Uh and and this is
- 48:23Speaker 1: how she had ter.
- 48:27Speaker 9: Look next year. Turn around for your fans, he had
- 48:30Speaker 9: a two year affair while I had his second baby.
- 48:34Speaker 1: Now it sounds a little weird because you're not you're
- 48:37Speaker 1: not watching this on the video is not an airport. No,
- 48:40Speaker 1: it's at a mall. It's at a shopping mall. Just
- 48:42Speaker 1: imagine your local favorite shopping mall, and like an old
- 48:46Speaker 1: school Popeye cartoons, and you're wearing the sandwich board saying
- 48:50Speaker 1: I had an affair for two years, asked me to
- 48:53Speaker 1: tell you about it, And you're walking through the mall
- 48:56Speaker 1: with a sandwich board. Either side of the sandwich board
- 48:59Speaker 1: says basically this same thing. You're there with your wife
- 49:03Speaker 1: and she's got the baby in the stroller as you're
- 49:06Speaker 1: walking through the mall, and she's not. It's not just
- 49:10Speaker 1: that you see the guy with a sandwich boar because
- 49:12Speaker 1: that's enough. She's pointing it out to everybody as you
- 49:16Speaker 1: walk through the mall that you had an affair. That
- 49:19Speaker 1: she again highlights exactly what was what she was doing
- 49:22Speaker 1: while you were doing this.
- 49:24Speaker 9: He had a two your affair, while I had his
- 49:27Speaker 9: second baby. We intentionally had a second baby, and he's
- 49:31Speaker 9: having an affair.
- 49:31Speaker 1: The whole time. So wow, I just want to say that,
- 49:38Speaker 1: you know, there was a time, Chad, in perhaps everybody's
- 49:41Speaker 1: younger days, where maybe if you were caught having an affair,
- 49:45Speaker 1: you had to apologize to that individually, get to go
- 49:47Speaker 1: through couple's therapy, maybe you had to apologize to friends,
- 49:51Speaker 1: and maybe there was a divorce process or separation. Now
- 49:54Speaker 1: with social media, fuck Matt, you are making a show,
- 49:59Speaker 1: a show going to get hits when you have a life,
- 50:03Speaker 1: it was like, how do I make this guy feel
- 50:05Speaker 1: the worst for doing this and get a ton of
- 50:08Speaker 1: hits and likes from it? Boom, You've got a camera
- 50:12Speaker 1: and like seven different outlets to do this with and
- 50:15Speaker 1: it will go viral as in this case. Look at
- 50:17Speaker 1: this guy's face once again, Look at him walk there.
- 50:23Speaker 1: He's going like he's going to He says, to do
- 50:26Speaker 1: you have to do that, and she stopped in the
- 50:28Speaker 1: cart claps her hands. It's like, cheata there. This guy
- 50:36Speaker 1: cheated for you fans. Look at his face for your fans.
- 50:41Speaker 1: Look at his face.
- 50:43Speaker 2: Oh my god, holy shit.
- 50:45Speaker 1: Now, if that face and the sandwich board doesn't make
- 50:48Speaker 1: you rethink having the affair, I don't know what will
- 50:54Speaker 1: forget the hurt that she obviously felt and the concern
- 50:57Speaker 1: about whether or not this relationship will have any trust
- 50:59Speaker 1: in it down the road, because I'm gonna guess that's
- 51:02Speaker 1: pretty indicative of not a lot of trust. And the
- 51:05Speaker 1: infant is right there watching dad.
- 51:09Speaker 2: Here's what I'm concerned about now that you mentioned that
- 51:12Speaker 2: where's the other kid with grandma?
- 51:14Speaker 1: Or perhaps be said by the nanny that he had
- 51:16Speaker 1: the affair with I don't know the old pair he
- 51:20Speaker 1: was fucking. I'm not sure she put an end of
- 51:25Speaker 1: the affair, but not to the o pair working there,
- 51:27Speaker 1: because it's so tough to find an a pair these days,
- 51:29Speaker 1: mister Chad. So just think about that when you guys
- 51:32Speaker 1: are thinking about that affair possibility on that drunken night
- 51:35Speaker 1: before U before. As we have athlete daughters, athlete children,
- 51:40Speaker 1: and we have seen some crazier things that have happened
- 51:43Speaker 1: at the ballpark when it comes to parents, when it fans,
- 51:47Speaker 1: when it comes to stories umpires, uh and and and
- 51:52Speaker 1: and some of the rules that have gone on at
- 51:53Speaker 1: these ballparks for travel games and the like. Here's one
- 51:57Speaker 1: where you see arrest event a school age wrestling event,
- 52:03Speaker 1: and apparently one of the parents is not happy with
- 52:06Speaker 1: the way not his son is wrestling or not wrestling
- 52:10Speaker 1: as the case maybe, but more about the referee involved.
- 52:16Speaker 1: You see a little wrestling going on there at the school.
- 52:18Speaker 1: Somebody's getting demolished by a did with long hairs. Referee
- 52:24Speaker 1: calling something goes over and out of nowhere, Dad comes in,
- 52:36Speaker 1: shoves the referee off the kids. He's yelling about something
- 52:42Speaker 1: that the referee didn't do. The wife is also see this.
- 52:45Speaker 1: You can see the wife right here. She starts yelling
- 52:47Speaker 1: at the referee. Also as the rest trying to get away,
- 52:52Speaker 1: he's kicking them out of the the gymnasium. The refs
- 53:00Speaker 1: are saying I'll have you arrested, which is rightfully so
- 53:03Speaker 1: that they have every right to say that. And that's
- 53:05Speaker 1: an assocuation, that's an assault on the wrestling mat. You
- 53:08Speaker 1: see the dad take off and run across the mat
- 53:11Speaker 1: to tackle world, to take down. He's a big dude.
- 53:14Speaker 1: The dad is to take down the referee.
- 53:16Speaker 2: He's definitely, he's definitely the referee in him. Are not
- 53:19Speaker 2: in the same weight class, No, for sure. God, well
- 53:23Speaker 2: I don't know that referee.
- 53:24Speaker 1: Maybe again, I get it. You're pissed off. I get it.
- 53:27Speaker 1: Your kid was getting crushed by what seemingly was a
- 53:29Speaker 1: littler kid with longer hair. I get that. That's a
- 53:32Speaker 1: girl or a girl as the case. Maybe I get you.
- 53:35Speaker 2: There are awesome wrestlers, by the way, I'm just saying, like, yeah.
- 53:38Speaker 1: They are. I've seen you crush a dude in wrestling.
- 53:42Speaker 1: It happens a lot. But again, stay in your fucking seat.
- 53:49Speaker 2: This is uh so for since we'll bring this full
- 53:53Speaker 2: circle here, you know, since we were talking about my
- 53:55Speaker 2: kid being recruited. Uh this right here, this video is
- 54:00Speaker 2: the one oh one on how not to get your
- 54:02Speaker 2: kid recruited. Yeah, the minute that everybody who your kid
- 54:06Speaker 2: may like, some college that may be interested in your kid,
- 54:09Speaker 2: sees this video and sees you, the parent, acting like this,
- 54:13Speaker 2: your kid's done forget it. No matter how good they are, right,
- 54:16Speaker 2: could be the best most world class Olympic wrestler on
- 54:21Speaker 2: the planet. Right, you act like this as a parent.
- 54:24Speaker 2: Game over, folks, and.
- 54:25Speaker 1: Seriously, no offense. I'll say this as you have done
- 54:28Speaker 1: it before. I'm a coach for softball for both of
- 54:31Speaker 1: my daughter's teams. I see that. What the fuck are
- 54:34Speaker 1: you teaching your kid now? You're so if you're pissed
- 54:37Speaker 1: because your kid wasn't wrestling well or was getting crushed
- 54:40Speaker 1: by the competition, you don't charge out and take down
- 54:44Speaker 1: the referee for a lack of ability on your son's part.
- 54:48Speaker 1: Fuck you, your kid? What are you teaching your kid now? Now?
- 54:51Speaker 1: Your kid go by the way, standing in the background,
- 54:53Speaker 1: going dad, please don't do this. Please?
- 54:54Speaker 2: Oh yeah, dad, Dad, Stop.
- 54:57Speaker 1: That poor kid is going to have to live with
- 54:59Speaker 1: that now. You don't think that he gets around an
- 55:01Speaker 1: entire school district. Oh, that gets around a school district.
- 55:04Speaker 1: That's gonna be that kid's not going to wrestle again. Period.
- 55:07Speaker 2: No, No, I wouldn't.
- 55:09Speaker 1: No, I mean you can't.
- 55:12Speaker 2: This is yeah there and there are thousands and thousands
- 55:16Speaker 2: of examples of this. This is like a whole episode
- 55:19Speaker 2: we can talk about about parenting.
- 55:20Speaker 1: We will, I'm sure we will. We'll do it again.
- 55:23Speaker 2: But this is uh yeah, this is the kind of
- 55:26Speaker 2: stuff that drives me nuts. I see this at the
- 55:28Speaker 2: ballpark all the time.
- 55:30Speaker 1: If you're listening to the podcast now, you can see
- 55:32Speaker 1: this at a Real guy radio dot com. Also a
- 55:34Speaker 1: YouTube on the Dad's Home podcast. You can check it
- 55:36Speaker 1: out there. And lastly, chat, I think we need to
- 55:38Speaker 1: do more when it comes to teav do not our
- 55:41Speaker 1: kids about finances now, specifically I suck at finances. My
- 55:46Speaker 1: wife sucks at finances. It's one of those things that
- 55:48Speaker 1: we know about each other one hundred percent, and we
- 55:51Speaker 1: know that we are taking this and we're putting it
- 55:53Speaker 1: onto our kids as they're My senior age daughter's about
- 55:56Speaker 1: ready to hit freshmen in college. So I've found I'm
- 55:59Speaker 1: trying to find. I found that I'm interested in getting
- 56:02Speaker 1: my daughter into some sort of home financing class on
- 56:04Speaker 1: her own that she can just you know, away from school,
- 56:06Speaker 1: something she can do at night, whatever, some sort of
- 56:09Speaker 1: a class that legitimately teaches her how to handle her finances.
- 56:12Speaker 1: Because this little kid has fucked this up big time
- 56:16Speaker 1: for mom, which I think is all mom's fault. But
- 56:18Speaker 1: let's listen to what mom has to say here about
- 56:20Speaker 1: what this kid has done. You do not get to
- 56:23Speaker 1: max out my debit cards? Okay, and Amelia.
- 56:27Speaker 3: Two thousand, five hundred dollars, you literally max out my car.
- 56:35Speaker 1: Well, look, so she's she's maxed out mom's credit card.
- 56:39Speaker 1: And what this kid does? Who just rolled her eyes
- 56:42Speaker 1: at her mind? And how old do you think this kids?
- 56:43Speaker 1: Kids got to be like ten years old? Maybe eleven
- 56:44Speaker 1: years old?
- 56:45Speaker 2: Top?
- 56:45Speaker 1: Yeah, she stuns over to get to the pile of
- 56:50Speaker 1: stuff that's on the couch to show mom what she
- 56:52Speaker 1: bought with the twenty five hundred dollars at the Crocks.
- 56:54Speaker 1: She's gonna bust out the nikes here in a minute.
- 56:56Speaker 2: Those are acute, Lisa Frank cracks.
- 56:58Speaker 1: But seriously, you needed three pairs of shoes, Amelia dah.
- 57:04Speaker 2: That's right there, bus max out my damnit.
- 57:09Speaker 1: You shouldn't be using my card. Okay, So I agree
- 57:12Speaker 1: with that, mom, But why is she using your car?
- 57:15Speaker 2: How did she get it in the first place?
- 57:16Speaker 1: How's she doing that? Because I don't know about you,
- 57:18Speaker 1: but it looks like she's about to. I know you did,
- 57:22Speaker 1: I know you did.
- 57:23Speaker 5: American Eagle jeans, shoes, Mark Jacobs sunglasses.
- 57:29Speaker 1: You are seven, You should to use dude seven. First
- 57:35Speaker 1: of all, she looks like she's a teenager. Uh seven seven?
- 57:40Speaker 1: What are we doing here? Who's doing that? Who's giving
- 57:43Speaker 1: their kid at age seven full access? Because I'm guessing
- 57:47Speaker 1: and I don't know. Maybe she did order it all online,
- 57:49Speaker 1: but I saw shopping bags there. So if even if
- 57:51Speaker 1: you were like, go ahead into my Amazon, shouldn't you
- 57:54Speaker 1: be checking? Like, if you go ahead, put in the
- 57:55Speaker 1: card on Amazon, I'll check it and get it all
- 57:57Speaker 1: sent off. And Paige, so just let me see what
- 58:00Speaker 1: you've got in there and make some decisions on it.
- 58:02Speaker 1: I'll let you know if I think that's too much,
- 58:04Speaker 1: not up your alley, not the right size, whatever it
- 58:06Speaker 1: might be. You're just giving your seven year old free
- 58:08Speaker 1: fucking rain as to purchasing anything anywhere.
- 58:14Speaker 2: This is one of these times where I think one
- 58:16Speaker 2: of our sponsors could be someone like green Light, which
- 58:19Speaker 2: is a company that is basically a debit card for
- 58:23Speaker 2: your kids where you get to control how much they spend. Yes,
- 58:26Speaker 2: you can watch, which is what we use in our house.
- 58:28Speaker 1: You have control. You can shut that card down at
- 58:30Speaker 1: a moment's notice if you need to.
- 58:32Speaker 2: Or you know, you can take all the money out
- 58:34Speaker 2: of their accounts. So when they go to try to
- 58:36Speaker 2: buy one hundred and fifty dollars shoes, sorry.
- 58:39Speaker 1: Decline right right a debit card, but this, look at this.
- 58:44Speaker 9: That's why I just use it for all this stuff.
- 58:47Speaker 1: You should you know what, You're not gonna be able
- 58:49Speaker 1: to have your iPhone anymore because that that is why
- 58:53Speaker 1: we're in this position. You better no, I'll just break it.
- 58:58Speaker 1: Here's how I'm gonna get back at you, mom foring
- 59:00Speaker 1: out your credit card. I'm gonna take my thousand dollars
- 59:03Speaker 1: iPhone and break it. What are you gonna do about it? Bitch?
- 59:06Speaker 1: What do you got going on there? What are you
- 59:08Speaker 1: gonna do? Then?
- 59:10Speaker 10: Oh?
- 59:11Speaker 1: Man? Is how?
- 59:12Speaker 2: This is how America is gonna be great again? Right here? Folks?
- 59:16Speaker 1: Oh Jesus, seriously, this is I mean, how do we
- 59:18Speaker 1: So here's my question on this, Like I watched stuff
- 59:21Speaker 1: like this online and and I'm like, okay, entertaining, But.
- 59:25Speaker 2: How much of this is staged?
- 59:26Speaker 1: I know?
- 59:26Speaker 2: How much of this is? Like it's like I want
- 59:29Speaker 2: to get clicks, right, I want to get people to
- 59:31Speaker 2: pay attention to me, So I'm gonna pull shit like this.
- 59:33Speaker 2: How much of it is that? And how much of
- 59:35Speaker 2: this is actually really happening.
- 59:36Speaker 1: It's a good rible and I got the vibe initially
- 59:40Speaker 1: that maybe it seems a little fit, but the seven
- 59:41Speaker 1: year old is either that good an actress, right, or
- 59:45Speaker 1: it's or or or it's all real because she really
- 59:48Speaker 1: the reactions to it, the eye rolling, all of that
- 59:51Speaker 1: stuff leads me to maybe mom knew exactly what she
- 59:53Speaker 1: was doing by setting this up in video recording it
- 59:56Speaker 1: for that purpose. But Jesus, that kid sold it like
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: and made me want to punch her in the throat.
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: She is just, Oh my god, have I got.
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: Have I got an audition?
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: Really, you're gonna break it. You're gonna do what?
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: Look I am.
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: I am not at all in favor of kids getting
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: hit or any sort of spanking, but goddamn, that girl
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: needs it.
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: This is could be our first entry into the twenty
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: twenty five Worst Parents.
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: I think right there, Look we have too because technically
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: we've got the dude who the charges, yeah, who's charging
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: after the referee and knocks a referee down, And then
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: we've got this wonderful woman. You better not. God, how
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: much do I want that little kid that's like shot the.
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: Damn it?
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: God, that's it.
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: Damn it.
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: Well. Look that is the first welcome back edition of
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: this home podcast. Thank you very much for being here.
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: We appreciate it. We're gonn have more of these to come,
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: mister Chad. And and by the way, I like the
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: sponsorship I did for Greenland or anybody else. And if
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: you got classes that your kid took to help them
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: personally finance, get themselves ready and not over and charge
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: their cards, let us know at the Dad's Home Podcast.
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: Until next time.
- 1:01:15Speaker 10: See uh, sweet pea, keep of myself. I'm know sometimes
- 1:01:22Speaker 10: I'm out of concho yoty. Only reason keep on coming, yo,
- 1:01:31Speaker 10: reason I keep all coming.
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: Yeah, Yo, keep coming.
