- 2:40Speaker 3: Buddy good?
- 2:41Speaker 5: How are you? Budd?
- 2:42Speaker 3: I have the big question I have to ask you
- 2:44Speaker 3: before we get into anything else. And this is big time,
- 2:47Speaker 3: major league stuff here. Okay, all right? How do you
- 2:51Speaker 3: feel about Aaron Rodgers being in Pittsburghson? You being the
- 2:53Speaker 3: Pittsburgh Steeler expert and the guy, how do you feel
- 2:59Speaker 3: about Aaron Rodgers being a Steeler?
- 3:01Speaker 1: You know, I was against the I was against the move.
- 3:03Speaker 1: I've been up against those moves and they kind of
- 3:07Speaker 1: the Steelers have been going after the retread quarterbacks now
- 3:10Speaker 1: for a while, trying to find their way, and it's
- 3:12Speaker 1: not working. So I was against this one as well.
- 3:15Speaker 1: I think he's done. I think his stats show it.
- 3:18Speaker 1: So it'll be another frustrating nine and eight year most likely.
- 3:21Speaker 1: So lower your expectations. See, but not as low as
- 3:24Speaker 1: the Cowboys. All right, See you had to go there.
- 3:26Speaker 1: I give you an opportunity to talk about your team.
- 3:29Speaker 1: And but you know, the Dallas Cowboys live rent free
- 3:34Speaker 1: in Steeler fans' heads for some reason. I don't know why.
- 3:38Speaker 3: I mean, I actually like.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Since it's been since what ninety five since you guys.
- 3:41Speaker 3: To call them the Lombardi so well, technically ninety six
- 3:45Speaker 3: because it was January now six. Yeah, all right, well
- 3:49Speaker 3: you're all Rich. Sorry, sorry you can't say thanks. Yeah,
- 3:51Speaker 3: it's nice to see you, Thanks for coming, all right.
- 3:53Speaker 3: Rich comes in with us every so often, just talk
- 3:55Speaker 3: about the real estate market here in the Kanaw Valley.
- 3:57Speaker 3: And as always, Riches open to take questions if you
- 4:00Speaker 3: got them. I feel free to give us a call.
- 4:01Speaker 3: Big Lely pig leagu Wiggly hotline three zero four three
- 4:04Speaker 3: four five fifty eight fifty eight or a text line
- 4:06Speaker 3: courtesy of Tony the Taylor three zero four nine three
- 4:09Speaker 3: five five zero zero eight. Overall, it will break it
- 4:11Speaker 3: down specifically, how is the market in the Kanaga Valley.
- 4:14Speaker 1: You know, the market's about It just kind of has
- 4:16Speaker 1: the EBB and flows and up and down a little bit.
- 4:18Speaker 1: We I've said this before on the air and kind
- 4:21Speaker 1: of reflect on this a little bit before prior of covid,
- 4:24Speaker 1: our multiple listing service, which covers eleven counties here in
- 4:27Speaker 1: the Call Valley board, we'd have between fifteen hundred and
- 4:31Speaker 1: eighteen hundred active listings at all time. I mean, that's
- 4:34Speaker 1: just kind of how it was. Probably one hundred and
- 4:36Speaker 1: fifty or so of those were above seven hundred thousand dollars,
- 4:40Speaker 1: and then another couple hundred of those were below one hundred,
- 4:43Speaker 1: and that's those were kind of always there. But since
- 4:47Speaker 1: twenty twenty one, for sure started dropping pretty harshly in
- 4:51Speaker 1: twenty twenty, just inventory levels I've just not recovered. I mean,
- 4:54Speaker 1: we're a little under six hundred now total, and we
- 4:57Speaker 1: probably have close to one hundre undred of those seven
- 5:01Speaker 1: hundred thousand dollars are up. Listings are still there, and
- 5:04Speaker 1: one hundred of the ones that are one hundred thousand
- 5:06Speaker 1: dollars or less, so there just aren't a lot to pick.
- 5:08Speaker 1: Remember that's over eleven counties. Yeah, you know, so the
- 5:11Speaker 1: inventory has not improved. It goes up a little bit.
- 5:14Speaker 1: We'll go up close to six hundred, and we'll drop
- 5:16Speaker 1: back down to five hundred, which is what happened during
- 5:18Speaker 1: the We dropped back down to five hundred during the
- 5:20Speaker 1: spring selling season. That kind of starts in March. It's
- 5:24Speaker 1: slowing a little bit in the summertime, but we'll pick
- 5:26Speaker 1: back up probably in August, maybe July, August or September.
- 5:29Speaker 5: We'll do that a little bit more.
- 5:30Speaker 3: And rich you know, you hear and we have. We've
- 5:32Speaker 3: frequently talked about this on the show. I've had some
- 5:35Speaker 3: elected officials. Taryll Ellis comes in from time to time
- 5:37Speaker 3: from Advantage Valley. We talked about this need for homes here,
- 5:41Speaker 3: specifically in the Kanawha Valley. And some people may hear
- 5:44Speaker 3: that and they think, why do we need more homes.
- 5:46Speaker 3: You're a realtor, explain why we need more homes?
- 5:48Speaker 1: Well, the demand is high, so you can't get a
- 5:50Speaker 1: rental either. So lots of folks that are in rentals
- 5:52Speaker 1: are trying to get into the you know, the American
- 5:54Speaker 1: dream kind of thing, to own your own piece of
- 5:56Speaker 1: the piece of the pie, and so many advantages for
- 5:59Speaker 1: owner ship versus renting, and uh, you know so, but
- 6:02Speaker 1: there's so many people that can't even get to that.
- 6:03Speaker 1: There are people that are trying to move here that
- 6:05Speaker 1: can't find suitable housing for themselves. And you know, I
- 6:08Speaker 1: did hear I don't have all the details on this,
- 6:10Speaker 1: but I did hear a developer in the Point Pleasant
- 6:13Speaker 1: area is going to build two hundred homes up there.
- 6:15Speaker 1: I'm sure all the support, the ancillary jobs for New
- 6:18Speaker 1: Court and all the kind of stuff that's going, but uh,
- 6:20Speaker 1: there there is a demand here for those houses to
- 6:22Speaker 1: be and you know, unfortunately, in the last several years,
- 6:25Speaker 1: and this is my opinion, of course, but first of all,
- 6:29Speaker 1: there aren't a lot of builders out there anymore who
- 6:31Speaker 1: are building single family homes. Those builders that are out
- 6:34Speaker 1: there are building apartments and quads and those kind of things.
- 6:38Speaker 3: Now, why why is that?
- 6:39Speaker 6: Why?
- 6:39Speaker 3: Why are they more interest? Is it because we have
- 6:42Speaker 3: these workers coming in from let you know, you mentioned
- 6:44Speaker 3: New Core in some of these other companies that are
- 6:47Speaker 3: coming in that maybe they don't view it because you
- 6:50Speaker 3: never know what the New Core and I'll use them
- 6:52Speaker 3: for an example to which new Core is a major,
- 6:54Speaker 3: you know, a major international company with with spots all
- 6:57Speaker 3: around the United States, and do they just view that
- 7:00Speaker 3: as maybe, well, we're coming in here, we don't know
- 7:04Speaker 3: how long we're going to be here, so we may
- 7:05Speaker 3: not necessarily want we may be transferred out to some places,
- 7:09Speaker 3: we may not want to make that dive into a
- 7:12Speaker 3: full family. I think that's that's the reason.
- 7:14Speaker 1: I think that could be part of the reason. You know,
- 7:15Speaker 1: I mean a lot of people are you know, and
- 7:17Speaker 1: they're currently with rates that are close to seven percent too.
- 7:20Speaker 1: People are more that you get stuck in those rates.
- 7:23Speaker 5: You know.
- 7:23Speaker 1: That's another big problem we have with buyers these days
- 7:25Speaker 1: is that you know, at some point a couple of
- 7:27Speaker 1: years ago, there were problem I think the stack came
- 7:30Speaker 1: out that there were seventy percent of all home owners
- 7:33Speaker 1: who were in a mortgage had mortgages below four percent.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Seventy percent, So why do you want to take those
- 7:39Speaker 1: people into a seven percent Well, you know, what's the
- 7:41Speaker 1: benefit for them? So if a person comes in now
- 7:43Speaker 1: and buys, they're to seven percent mortgage, maybe they're planning
- 7:46Speaker 1: on being there five years. Then they've got a seven
- 7:49Speaker 1: percent mortgage. Like, you know, it's just it's a it's
- 7:51Speaker 1: a I think it's a combination of all those things
- 7:53Speaker 1: that are floating around there that are just kind of
- 7:56Speaker 1: creating our problem.
- 7:58Speaker 3: Talking to Rich the realtor again of the Dave Island
- 8:01Speaker 3: showing five eighty Live is brought to you parted by
- 8:03Speaker 3: Husband's Pizza, where this month get a large et inch
- 8:05Speaker 3: Pepperoni pizza and a whole tenants sub twenty three ninety
- 8:08Speaker 3: nine find your hustand your closest hustins for delivery, pick
- 8:11Speaker 3: up or dynam I going to Huston's Pizza dot com
- 8:13Speaker 3: And again, you know you guys, it makes you know
- 8:16Speaker 3: you're you're all over. You know you can sell wherever. Uh,
- 8:19Speaker 3: but with your Tay's Valley, guy, that's where you that's
- 8:22Speaker 3: where you live, It's where your offices and stuff. Talk
- 8:24Speaker 3: about what's been going on in Tad's Valley with these
- 8:26Speaker 3: people come.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Yeah. So one of the probably one of the benefits,
- 8:29Speaker 1: well the biggest benefit about home ownership in the last
- 8:31Speaker 1: since the COVID thing happened is just home values have
- 8:34Speaker 1: gone just they've just got rocket, and you know, I
- 8:37Speaker 1: think some people are holding out of the market thinking, well,
- 8:39Speaker 1: they're going to come back down, and that is not
- 8:41Speaker 1: looking like the trend. If you're holding out for those
- 8:44Speaker 1: home home prices to come down, you're you're, you know,
- 8:47Speaker 1: you're you're kind of fighting a losing battle there, in
- 8:49Speaker 1: my opinion. I did a little research not too long ago.
- 8:54Speaker 1: These are trailing twelve months from May to May. Okay,
- 8:57Speaker 1: so just and this is just Putnam County. So from
- 9:00Speaker 1: May twenty twenty two to May of twenty twenty three,
- 9:03Speaker 1: in Putnam County, there were five hundred and thirty three
- 9:05Speaker 1: homes sold, and the average price of those homes sold
- 9:08Speaker 1: two seventy one nine fifty eight. This is all of
- 9:11Speaker 1: Putnam County. That's one hundred and twenty four dollars a
- 9:14Speaker 1: square foot. Okay. So then from twenty twenty three to
- 9:18Speaker 1: twenty twenty four, there were six hundred and twenty seven
- 9:22Speaker 1: homes sold in Putnam County for an average value of
- 9:25Speaker 1: two eighty two nine to fifty four, one hundred and
- 9:27Speaker 1: twenty nine dollars a square foot. So it went up
- 9:29Speaker 1: on both of those spectrums. And then twenty twenty four
- 9:32Speaker 1: to twenty twenty five is the bigger one five hundred
- 9:35Speaker 1: and eleven sold, which is fewer, but the average price
- 9:39Speaker 1: went to three h five to one twenty and that's
- 9:42Speaker 1: one hundred and forty three dollars and eighty.
- 9:44Speaker 5: Three cents a square foot.
- 9:45Speaker 1: So the home values the price per square foot all
- 9:48Speaker 1: of that has and Conal County is similar. I didn't
- 9:50Speaker 1: run the exact numbers for Connell County, but that isn't
- 9:54Speaker 1: the value of I mean, that's that's an advantage for
- 9:56Speaker 1: home ownership.
- 9:57Speaker 3: It is in geed. It is indeed in.
- 10:01Speaker 5: You can't.
- 10:01Speaker 3: We kind of touched this a little bit earlier. But
- 10:04Speaker 3: the average person comes to you, what are they looking for,
- 10:06Speaker 3: you know, as far as uh as a home, what
- 10:08Speaker 3: what type of home are they looking for? The average
- 10:10Speaker 3: where they had just average because.
- 10:11Speaker 1: The average is three bedroom, two bath. You know, they
- 10:13Speaker 1: like a little land. That's one of the funny. It's
- 10:15Speaker 1: not funny, it's just the way it is that they
- 10:17Speaker 1: you know, we want to have we don't really have
- 10:18Speaker 1: any neighbors, but we want to live in Hurricane, you know,
- 10:20Speaker 1: and there's fewer of those houses available out there. You know,
- 10:23Speaker 1: you're going to be in a subdivision there's going to
- 10:25Speaker 1: be an hr.
- 10:26Speaker 3: Let me jump in here. I got a good I
- 10:27Speaker 3: got a good friend of mine who is looking to
- 10:30Speaker 3: move his family into the Day's Valley area, and he
- 10:32Speaker 3: told me that exact same thing. He said. He said,
- 10:35Speaker 3: I want to be like right there in Hurricane and
- 10:38Speaker 3: want to be in Tayese Valley, but I don't want
- 10:39Speaker 3: to be too close to my neighbors. I'm thinking, well,
- 10:42Speaker 3: it's a tougher.
- 10:43Speaker 1: Fine, doesn't mean it's not out. It's out, but you
- 10:46Speaker 1: better bring your patients with you, you know, as we
- 10:48Speaker 1: look for those homes. So but I'll tell you just
- 10:50Speaker 1: a little bit for just touching on buyers a little.
- 10:54Speaker 1: You know, first thing the buyers should be doing is
- 10:56Speaker 1: getting pre qualified, and they should talk to a lender.
- 10:58Speaker 1: There are many options for loans, and not all loans
- 11:01Speaker 1: are for the same It's not a cookie cutter scenario.
- 11:05Speaker 1: If you talk to just one of the banks, they're
- 11:07Speaker 1: going to have, you know, kind of a very narrow
- 11:10Speaker 1: amount or options for loans. But if you're go to
- 11:12Speaker 1: one of these lenders like Gateway Mortgage or Prime Lending
- 11:15Speaker 1: or Rate Mortgage, just there's so many of those that
- 11:19Speaker 1: are out there and they each have different programs for
- 11:22Speaker 1: different buyers, and I would I would highly encourage buyers
- 11:25Speaker 1: to go get pre qualified. It's a free, twenty minute
- 11:29Speaker 1: phone call. Helps you understand what your payments are going
- 11:32Speaker 1: to be like. I'll help you factor in all of
- 11:34Speaker 1: your you know, your escro account, all of that thing
- 11:36Speaker 1: for that you'll need to know before you start shopping.
- 11:39Speaker 3: You know.
- 11:39Speaker 1: One of the worst things can happen is that you
- 11:42Speaker 1: find an agent and they show you a house that
- 11:44Speaker 1: you think you can afford, and let's say it's fifty
- 11:46Speaker 1: thousand dollars over your asking or over your budget that
- 11:48Speaker 1: you're not even aware of yet, and it's going to
- 11:50Speaker 1: be really difficult to find a home when you go
- 11:52Speaker 1: and talk to a lender and you find out you
- 11:55Speaker 1: can't afford that, and you have to you have to
- 11:57Speaker 1: drop down in value in those homes.
- 11:59Speaker 5: It's hard to.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Those that will meet your expectation.
- 12:02Speaker 3: You know.
- 12:03Speaker 1: So you get your loan sorted and understand what it's
- 12:07Speaker 1: going to be like so that you're comfortable with it,
- 12:09Speaker 1: and then find your agent, find them and have them
- 12:11Speaker 1: start looking, and you know, you'd still have to sign
- 12:13Speaker 1: the buyer's representation agreement. Remember that everything in real estate.
- 12:17Speaker 1: First rule of real estate is everything is negotiable. And
- 12:19Speaker 1: that's not just the home price, but it's the seller concessions,
- 12:22Speaker 1: it's commissions, it's the personal property that's left behind at
- 12:26Speaker 1: the house. Everything in real estate is negotiable.
- 12:29Speaker 3: But I don't need a realtorm I can just use Zillow.
- 12:33Speaker 1: Well, yeah, good luck.
- 12:35Speaker 3: You know so I set you up?
- 12:37Speaker 1: Yeah, so you did. Yeah, And I have to be
- 12:39Speaker 1: careful what I say about that kind of thing. I
- 12:40Speaker 1: can know you have to. I would highly encourage you
- 12:43Speaker 1: to use a professional.
- 12:44Speaker 3: I mean, there's all you need to say.
- 12:46Speaker 1: You don't. You don't. Most at one point eighty percent
- 12:49Speaker 1: of all homes that were particularly on the seller's side,
- 12:52Speaker 1: eighty percent of those did not make it to closing.
- 12:54Speaker 1: There's a lot going navigate, there's a lot going on.
- 12:56Speaker 1: This is a huge and you're most likely your biggest
- 12:59Speaker 1: purchase of your life. I think you'd want some representation
- 13:01Speaker 1: who know what they're doing.
- 13:02Speaker 3: All right, before we let you go. Is there any
- 13:04Speaker 3: particular properties out there right now that you're.
- 13:07Speaker 1: Yeah, so, I'd like to see everyone toward the seventy
- 13:10Speaker 1: five points out of a drive in scott Deepot This
- 13:12Speaker 1: is a giant, fifty six hundred square foot home. It
- 13:14Speaker 1: has a twenty three one hundred square foot basement that's
- 13:18Speaker 1: not finished but has a full gym in there with
- 13:20Speaker 1: a sauna, so much potential. Has a pull. It's it's
- 13:23Speaker 1: in a just right off of where sixty four and
- 13:26Speaker 1: Route thirty five come together. It also has an assumable loans.
- 13:30Speaker 1: It's going to be something if you want to talk
- 13:32Speaker 1: about how that works. There are lots of moving parts
- 13:34Speaker 1: doing a superable alone, but the seller is a veteran
- 13:38Speaker 1: and that loan becomes assumable and his rates at two
- 13:40Speaker 1: point three seven five, So that's two point three seven
- 13:43Speaker 1: five rate that is assumable. Now, there's some moving parts
- 13:46Speaker 1: there and you have to have some You can't just
- 13:48Speaker 1: take over payments.
- 13:49Speaker 3: It doesn't work that way.
- 13:50Speaker 1: But you are assuming the loan and if you can,
- 13:52Speaker 1: if you have the cash available to buy the equity
- 13:55Speaker 1: that's in the home, then that might be for you.
- 13:58Speaker 1: That's a significant difference, you know, from a seven percent mortgage.
- 14:02Speaker 1: And people can see that home where they can find
- 14:05Speaker 1: it on any of the secondary sites, the realtor dot
- 14:07Speaker 1: coms or those zillows or those kinds of things, or
- 14:09Speaker 1: they can call or text me directly and I can
- 14:11Speaker 1: send you the link right from the MLS including all
- 14:13Speaker 1: the disclosures. And again it's seventy five points out of
- 14:17Speaker 1: a drive in scott Depot.
- 14:18Speaker 3: It's a beautiful home too, I've seen it online, just
- 14:20Speaker 3: beautiful home. Do have a question here for you? Somebody
- 14:22Speaker 3: did have a question towards the end said, with so
- 14:24Speaker 3: many abandoned homes as well as neglected plots of land,
- 14:27Speaker 3: what is the ratio of those properties just sitting there
- 14:29Speaker 3: compared to home applications? Would buy those properties? Help with those?
- 14:34Speaker 3: It could help with those.
- 14:35Speaker 1: Most of those Most of those abandoned properties are flip opportunities.
- 14:39Speaker 1: And again, some of those builders that are out there
- 14:41Speaker 1: that are who are only doing flips now might might
- 14:43Speaker 1: pull those out and and try and you know, flip
- 14:47Speaker 1: those for a profit. And you know flippers are always
- 14:49Speaker 1: looking at cops too, So some of those abandoned properties. Now,
- 14:51Speaker 1: the plots of land are a different story. I feel
- 14:54Speaker 1: like we still have plenty of land to build on,
- 14:56Speaker 1: but again you have to have the builders to do that.
- 14:59Speaker 1: But those flip opportunities are those ones that are that
- 15:02Speaker 1: have to have the comps around them. And support the
- 15:04Speaker 1: investment that goes into it. And remember the one hundred and
- 15:06Speaker 1: forty three dollars a square foot on the sold is
- 15:09Speaker 1: that's cheaper to buy the house like that than it
- 15:12Speaker 1: is to buy the material to flip or to build.

- 18:14Speaker 3: joined us in studio this morning. Good morning, sir, Welcome
- 18:16Speaker 3: to the show.
- 18:17Speaker 5: Good morning Dave. Thanks for having me, Thank you for
- 18:19Speaker 5: being here.
- 18:19Speaker 3: All right, So we've heard over the last several months
- 18:22Speaker 3: about a lot of changes commit to KRT. You've been
- 18:25Speaker 3: on the show a couple times to talk about what's
- 18:26Speaker 3: already happened possible You called it off the air this morning,
- 18:29Speaker 3: you said, kind of in the home stretch, and there's
- 18:31Speaker 3: public meetings coming up, kind of updates on what's already
- 18:35Speaker 3: happened and what's to come with KRT.
- 18:37Speaker 5: Sure, so, thanks Dave. That's correct.
- 18:39Speaker 10: So about two years ago we took a really hard
- 18:41Speaker 10: look at KRTS system in general and said, hey, what's working,
- 18:44Speaker 10: what's not working. We started a series of public hearings
- 18:47Speaker 10: where we got feedback from our passengers and from the
- 18:50Speaker 10: community saying, hey, here's what we think works with our routes.
- 18:53Speaker 10: What can we do to make our system more efficient
- 18:55Speaker 10: and actually do more with the same amount of funding right,
- 18:58Speaker 10: So we came out in last fall. In October, our
- 19:02Speaker 10: board made a decision to take essentially, originally there was
- 19:05Speaker 10: a plan to eliminate about eleven routes. Instead of doing that,
- 19:08Speaker 10: we actually have the service for those routes, and then
- 19:12Speaker 10: the Sunday service dropped.
- 19:13Speaker 5: Off for us.
- 19:14Speaker 10: So those changes took place in February of this year,
- 19:17Speaker 10: and now we're coming back to the table and saying, Okay, well,
- 19:20Speaker 10: how did those changes work. How are our new plans
- 19:23Speaker 10: as far as this micro transit concept that we have
- 19:25Speaker 10: the KRT plus that we originally had three pilot zones
- 19:29Speaker 10: for the program. Now we're looking at expanding that out
- 19:32Speaker 10: to six zones so we can cover up some of
- 19:34Speaker 10: these areas that were traditionally served by these fixed routes
- 19:38Speaker 10: that are extremely over subsidized.
- 19:40Speaker 5: So we said, hey, if it costs.
- 19:41Speaker 10: So much to operate the bus line on these routes,
- 19:43Speaker 10: can we perform the same service get people to work
- 19:46Speaker 10: doctors' offices, grocery stores, but do it in a more
- 19:48Speaker 10: efficient way with smaller vehicles.
- 19:50Speaker 5: And that's what we're doing and we're excited about it.
- 19:53Speaker 3: What were some of the I mean, when you started
- 19:55Speaker 3: making the changes Shawn in February, and you said, we're
- 19:59Speaker 3: kind of take look at how those changes when how
- 20:01Speaker 3: did they go, which she did so far.
- 20:03Speaker 10: Yeah, So what we wanted to see was how the
- 20:05Speaker 10: adoption of the micro transit program. So we went we
- 20:09Speaker 10: started in October with that program. We're now hovering around
- 20:12Speaker 10: thirty five hundred rides a month, so individuals are picking
- 20:15Speaker 10: that up. And again that was in a small area
- 20:17Speaker 10: just East Charleston, West Charleston and South Hills. So we
- 20:20Speaker 10: think that we were able to accomplish about a ninety
- 20:22Speaker 10: percent completion rate, and some of that stuff we can't
- 20:25Speaker 10: control when individuals cancel a ride, et cetera, so that
- 20:28Speaker 10: kind of bumps our numbers down. But from seeing that
- 20:31Speaker 10: we could provide ninety percent of the service there for
- 20:33Speaker 10: thirty five hundred rides, it gave us the confidence to say, yes,
- 20:36Speaker 10: we can make this a bigger area. And by making
- 20:38Speaker 10: that a bigger area, we can then cover those routes
- 20:41Speaker 10: that traditionally were we call them the hill routes there.
- 20:43Speaker 10: So there's six different routes that we're looking at and saying,
- 20:46Speaker 10: can we replace those six routes with micro transit which
- 20:49Speaker 10: will save us money at KRT, but also will give
- 20:51Speaker 10: our passengers an option to continue to have public service.
- 20:54Speaker 10: So instead of taking something away from them and saying, hey,
- 20:56Speaker 10: you know we don't have anything to replace us with,
- 20:59Speaker 10: thankfully we have some and we're confident.
- 21:00Speaker 5: Will work that will actually provide them service.
- 21:02Speaker 3: And explain the concert of micro transit.
- 21:05Speaker 10: Yeah, so micro transit is essentially the same as when
- 21:08Speaker 10: you call ride share service so uber lyft, but think
- 21:10Speaker 10: that Kart operates it. So you've got these drug tested,
- 21:13Speaker 10: background checked individuals, You've got cameras on the vehicles. You
- 21:16Speaker 10: can go download a KRT plus app right now in
- 21:18Speaker 10: the Apple Store, the Google Play Store, or you can
- 21:21Speaker 10: just call into our office and schedule an old school style.
- 21:23Speaker 10: Either way whatever works for people. But they get on
- 21:26Speaker 10: the app or they call into our office and say, hey,
- 21:28Speaker 10: I need a ride tomorrow at seven am at my home.
- 21:31Speaker 10: I'm going somewhere either inside my zone or I'm going
- 21:35Speaker 10: to a fixed route. I'm going to the bus line somewhere,
- 21:38Speaker 10: and our system will then schedule that route.
- 21:40Speaker 5: A smaller vehicle will show up. We've got these smaller
- 21:42Speaker 5: sprinter vans that we actually just purchased.
- 21:45Speaker 10: They'll show up, pick you up and take you to
- 21:47Speaker 10: that location for the same dollar fifty it would have
- 21:49Speaker 10: cost you to ride the bus. That saves us money
- 21:52Speaker 10: because instead of driving those buses around all day long
- 21:54Speaker 10: up and down those hills, there's more expensive buses, less
- 21:57Speaker 10: fuel efficient and if there's not as many people ride
- 22:00Speaker 10: those actual routes.
- 22:01Speaker 5: Now we're only going out there in a smaller vehicle
- 22:03Speaker 5: when someone needs the ride.
- 22:05Speaker 3: And talk about the vehicles, I mean, I mean again,
- 22:08Speaker 3: these are not the large buses that you're used to
- 22:11Speaker 3: seeing there. What I would say like they're transit vans
- 22:15Speaker 3: kind of look like a church van maybe something like that.
- 22:17Speaker 10: Expose exactly so people will have noticed there's some smaller
- 22:20Speaker 10: vans going around Kanawak County. They're gray style of van.
- 22:23Speaker 10: That's what we've been using for our micro transit service
- 22:25Speaker 10: to date. In the next two weeks we're rolling out
- 22:28Speaker 10: fourteen new Sprinter style vans. So it's exactly what you're
- 22:31Speaker 10: talking about. It's a smaller vehicle for us. That's great
- 22:34Speaker 10: for several different reasons. It's a lower price point, it's
- 22:37Speaker 10: a Ford transit vehicle, so we save about thirty thousand
- 22:39Speaker 10: dollars versus our prior model. Of pair of transit vehicles,
- 22:43Speaker 10: but it's also more fuel efficient, it's smaller. Therefore our
- 22:46Speaker 10: drivers have an easier time when you know, squeezing into
- 22:49Speaker 10: some of these different locations that tend to be a
- 22:51Speaker 10: problem historically, So it's a win win win there. But
- 22:54Speaker 10: it also still has the same level of functionality and
- 22:57Speaker 10: comfort for our passengers, which is important.
- 23:00Speaker 3: Talking to Sean Hill and the executive director of KRT
- 23:02Speaker 3: to Dave Allen show in five eighty Live is presented
- 23:04Speaker 3: in part by Generations Physical Therapy nine practices all offered
- 23:08Speaker 3: extended hour So access to physical therapy has never been
- 23:11Speaker 3: easier for an amployment three zero four, seven, six zero,
- 23:13Speaker 3: fifty six sixty or visit generations pt dot com. Let's
- 23:17Speaker 3: go back a little bit and talk about where we
- 23:20Speaker 3: go from the very beginning for the reasons for these
- 23:23Speaker 3: changes that the first started being talked about. As you
- 23:26Speaker 3: said last year.
- 23:27Speaker 10: Sure, and I think what's important that we've learned through
- 23:29Speaker 10: this process is that transit public transit it specifically needs
- 23:34Speaker 10: to be something that we look at fluidly. So instead
- 23:36Speaker 10: of looking at it every ten or fifteen years and
- 23:38Speaker 10: doing a study and say, okay, what's right and what's wrong.
- 23:40Speaker 10: It's something that needs to be looked at every single
- 23:42Speaker 10: year and saying, hey, what modifications can happen in order
- 23:45Speaker 10: to maximize and make this system work for as many
- 23:48Speaker 10: people as possible. So essentially what happened was for the
- 23:53Speaker 10: fifty three years that KRT was in existence, we were
- 23:56Speaker 10: expanding and going to all these places. And Knaw County
- 23:58Speaker 10: is a challenging county to serve with public transit or
- 24:00Speaker 10: any transit, it's a tough problem to solve. So what
- 24:04Speaker 10: you ended up with was a system that looked kind
- 24:06Speaker 10: of like a spaghetti mess on the kitchen table of
- 24:10Speaker 10: all the routes that KRT would go to almost every
- 24:12Speaker 10: corner of the county. But what we saw was when
- 24:15Speaker 10: you look at the data of who actually rides those routes,
- 24:17Speaker 10: about eighty five percent of our ridership, or on just
- 24:20Speaker 10: three routes you're going to Nitro, You're going to Cross
- 24:23Speaker 10: Lanes Saint Albans that carries the majority of our ridership,
- 24:27Speaker 10: and these other routes that kind of tentacle out and
- 24:29Speaker 10: the pieces of spaghetti are much smaller, smaller ridership numbers.
- 24:34Speaker 10: So that's when we started looking at other alternatives. What
- 24:37Speaker 10: can we do to still provide service but save some
- 24:40Speaker 10: money too and live in within our means.
- 24:42Speaker 5: That's our big goal.
- 24:43Speaker 10: We want to make sure that we can say we're
- 24:44Speaker 10: being responsible with the funds that we are given.
- 24:47Speaker 3: And where did the funds come from for those that
- 24:49Speaker 3: don't know.
- 24:50Speaker 10: Sure, So about seventy percent of our funds come from
- 24:52Speaker 10: the Kanawk County Public Safety Levee. So the biggest thing
- 24:55Speaker 10: for us is the safety levee. So when that comes up,
- 24:58Speaker 10: it's a big deal for us to make sure we
- 25:00Speaker 10: can say, hey, here's what KRT offers. You know, we
- 25:02Speaker 10: offer bus service. We offer this on demand service, our
- 25:05Speaker 10: pair of transit services. On days like today, if you
- 25:08Speaker 10: from ten to eight, from ten am to eight pm,
- 25:11Speaker 10: you come down to the city center, there's a cooling
- 25:12Speaker 10: bus down there, so individuals who are out there and
- 25:14Speaker 10: the heat can actually hop on the bus and you
- 25:17Speaker 10: not have to be experiencing that. We provide evacuations whenever
- 25:20Speaker 10: there's an emergency somewhere in Kanaha County, so we rely
- 25:23Speaker 10: on that safety levee for the majority of our funding.
- 25:26Speaker 10: The Feds come in with about twenty percent of our funding.
- 25:29Speaker 10: Seven percent of it is from actual ticketing costs. So
- 25:31Speaker 10: when our passengers say we'll just raise the ticket prices
- 25:33Speaker 10: and now solve the problem, that's not where our funding
- 25:35Speaker 10: comes from. We recognize that it's from the safety levee,
- 25:38Speaker 10: it's from the federal government and from the state. So
- 25:41Speaker 10: it's again it's taxpayer money, and that's why we are
- 25:44Speaker 10: so protective of that and say, hey, we want to
- 25:47Speaker 10: make sure we're as fiscally responsible as possible. So we
- 25:49Speaker 10: can look people in the eye in Kanawha County and
- 25:51Speaker 10: say we're trying everything we can to make our dollars
- 25:53Speaker 10: go further.
- 25:54Speaker 3: And it's inexpensive. I mean, to ride the bus, it's
- 25:57Speaker 3: point blank just an expensive.
- 25:58Speaker 10: So it's very expensive. I mean, it's still that one
- 26:01Speaker 10: dollar fifty cents single ride. We're actually on July fourteenth,
- 26:06Speaker 10: we're enacting some of the fare changes. So the only
- 26:09Speaker 10: difference there is that our single ride is going to
- 26:12Speaker 10: stay the same, our day pass will go from two
- 26:13Speaker 10: fifty to three fifty, which is still very reasonable, and
- 26:16Speaker 10: our monthly passes are actually going to drop from sixty
- 26:18Speaker 10: dollars down to fifty dollars.
- 26:20Speaker 3: That's something you don't hear very often.
- 26:21Speaker 10: Price is dropping yeah, we're dropping them down to fifty dollars,
- 26:24Speaker 10: and we're also capping them. It's it's a program called
- 26:27Speaker 10: fair capping where you say, look if you get if
- 26:29Speaker 10: you spend fifty dollars at KRT in one thirty day period,
- 26:33Speaker 10: if you go to buy another ticket, it's going to
- 26:35Speaker 10: be free. Because what we what we recognize from looking
- 26:37Speaker 10: at the data was individuals at the beginning of the
- 26:39Speaker 10: month wouldn't want to lay down sixty dollars to get
- 26:42Speaker 10: a month pass, but they'd end up paying that two
- 26:45Speaker 10: fifty a day, which would end up adding up to
- 26:47Speaker 10: more than if they had just bought the pass on
- 26:49Speaker 10: the first day. So this this is saying, hey, for
- 26:51Speaker 10: our people who ride every single day, we want to
- 26:53Speaker 10: give you a break and recognize that. So once you
- 26:56Speaker 10: spend that fifty dollars, you will ride for free with
- 26:58Speaker 10: KRT for the rest of the month. So that's important
- 27:01Speaker 10: to us, and that's our way of giving back to
- 27:02Speaker 10: those everyday riders. And a text too of us said,
- 27:05Speaker 10: are car seats required for babies?
- 27:08Speaker 5: Car seats are required for babies.
- 27:10Speaker 10: Yes, so, and it would depend on which style, if
- 27:14Speaker 10: you're with the micro transit or if you're riding on
- 27:18Speaker 10: the actual bus, but we we'd be happy to. On
- 27:21Speaker 10: our website, there's some information on the rules as far
- 27:24Speaker 10: as ridership, because we have different rules as far as heights,
- 27:26Speaker 10: et cetera. As it relates to if the individuals can
- 27:30Speaker 10: ride alone, but babies themselves, you would want a lot
- 27:32Speaker 10: of times you have people on strollers that they're able
- 27:34Speaker 10: to attach onto.
- 27:36Speaker 5: The actual vehicles.
- 27:38Speaker 3: And what is the website?
- 27:39Speaker 10: Again, it's right on kart dot com. So if you
- 27:41Speaker 10: go to dodo w dot right on krt dot com.
- 27:44Speaker 10: There's also an informational page if you look for public information,
- 27:47Speaker 10: you can see all the information for.
- 27:49Speaker 5: The public hearings that we're having.
- 27:51Speaker 10: And one of those is today at five pm at
- 27:53Speaker 10: the Knacki Public Library and the other one is Friday
- 27:56Speaker 10: at noon at.
- 27:56Speaker 3: The and I want to give those public hearings. And
- 27:59Speaker 3: just a moment, we have another question here, did you
- 28:01Speaker 3: have to hire more drivers?
- 28:04Speaker 5: So what we have is a fleet of drivers.
- 28:07Speaker 10: We have our fixed route operators, so those are what
- 28:08Speaker 10: you would call a bus driver, and then we have
- 28:10Speaker 10: on demand drivers which who operate these the micro transit,
- 28:13Speaker 10: the paratransit and our sore program.
- 28:15Speaker 3: So it does pretty much work like an uber or
- 28:17Speaker 3: a lyft or something like that. They're just on demand.
- 28:20Speaker 5: They are on demand, so they'll be driving around.
- 28:21Speaker 10: So what they have three different functions they are at
- 28:24Speaker 10: times they are transporting the individuals who qualify for our
- 28:26Speaker 10: paratransit program.
- 28:28Speaker 5: So those individuals qualify because they have.
- 28:30Speaker 10: Some challenge that makes it so they can't drive themselves, right,
- 28:33Speaker 10: So these vehicles are out in those areas already and
- 28:36Speaker 10: in between picking up those paratransit rides, they are then
- 28:39Speaker 10: diverted over to these micro transit rides when possible and
- 28:42Speaker 10: kind of shuffle around all day, essentially the same as
- 28:44Speaker 10: an uber.
- 28:45Speaker 5: They just come back to KRTA at night.
- 28:47Speaker 3: And what has that response been since you've had Yeah,
- 28:50Speaker 3: it's been positive.
- 28:51Speaker 10: You know, it's it's tough to get a clear understanding.
- 28:54Speaker 10: People ask, how's the pilot program working?
- 28:56Speaker 6: Well?
- 28:57Speaker 10: I point to the ninety percent of the completion, point
- 29:00Speaker 10: to the numbers of rides going up every single month.
- 29:02Speaker 10: We're now hovering around thirty five hundred. But it's tough
- 29:05Speaker 10: to say for sure micro transit works when it replaces
- 29:09Speaker 10: these fixed routes. Right now, what we've had for the
- 29:12Speaker 10: last several months is micro transit layered on top of
- 29:16Speaker 10: the fixed routes, so.
- 29:17Speaker 5: You're not really seeing the cost savings there.
- 29:19Speaker 10: And we did that because our board was cognizant of
- 29:22Speaker 10: the fact of, hey, this is a big change for
- 29:24Speaker 10: Kanawk County. How do we do this in a way
- 29:25Speaker 10: that's comfortable for our passengers. And we're now to that
- 29:28Speaker 10: point where we're saying, okay, let's take the training wheels off,
- 29:31Speaker 10: remove the fixed route line, and let the micro transit
- 29:34Speaker 10: really take over.
- 29:35Speaker 3: Sometimes people just don't like change. I mean, sure, President
- 29:37Speaker 3: Company included, you just don't like change.
- 29:40Speaker 10: Hey, I don't pretend that I understand how challenging it
- 29:42Speaker 10: is to ride the bus every day. I think a
- 29:45Speaker 10: lot of us take take our vehicles for granted. I
- 29:47Speaker 10: think the people who ride the bus are very resourceful
- 29:50Speaker 10: and they can't adapt to the change. But I certainly
- 29:53Speaker 10: think that their concerns are valid. I want them to
- 29:56Speaker 10: know that we've done everything we can to make sure
- 29:58Speaker 10: that those areas that these change are taking place still
- 30:01Speaker 10: have service of some type. Last thing we want to
- 30:03Speaker 10: do is pull the rug out and say, hey, I
- 30:06Speaker 10: don't know how you're getting to work if you live
- 30:08Speaker 10: in this area or that area.
- 30:09Speaker 5: We don't want to do that to people.
- 30:10Speaker 10: We want to say, hey, this is new and this
- 30:13Speaker 10: is a change, and we want to do everything we
- 30:15Speaker 10: can to educate you and tell you how it works.
- 30:17Speaker 10: But we want you to be able to get to work.
- 30:19Speaker 10: We want to make sure, we say care Tea, we
- 30:20Speaker 10: connect people to opportunity. That's what we want to do
- 30:23Speaker 10: with our services.
- 30:24Speaker 3: Let's go back and talk about these public hearings. You
- 30:26Speaker 3: got one coming up today. Talk about the wares and
- 30:30Speaker 3: the winds, but more importantly, what do you hope to
- 30:33Speaker 3: gain from these public media Start with the one this afternoon.
- 30:37Speaker 10: Yeah, so this afternoon at five pm at the Kanawk
- 30:39Speaker 10: County Public Library on Capitol Street. And again we're going
- 30:42Speaker 10: to mirror that at noon on Friday at the same
- 30:44Speaker 10: knawh County Public Library. The idea of those meetings are
- 30:48Speaker 10: to share these plans, to say, hey, here's what this
- 30:51Speaker 10: looks like. I want to paint a picture of why
- 30:55Speaker 10: charity is in this situation. So hey, here's our funding,
- 30:57Speaker 10: here's what it costs to operate care Tea. Here's why
- 31:00Speaker 10: we're making this tough decision, and we want to give
- 31:02Speaker 10: our passengers a chance to give us some feedback and
- 31:04Speaker 10: say hey, this is the reality of how these changes
- 31:06Speaker 10: will impact me on a daily basis, so I can
- 31:09Speaker 10: take that back to my board and say hey, here's
- 31:12Speaker 10: the feedback.
- 31:12Speaker 5: From the community on these potential changes.
- 31:15Speaker 10: It's tough because it's a little bit different than the
- 31:17Speaker 10: last time where we sat down and said, hey, are
- 31:20Speaker 10: there any other ideas we can do to kind of
- 31:23Speaker 10: mitigate these damages of potentially Originally it was taken away
- 31:26Speaker 10: eleven routes, and I think we did that.
- 31:29Speaker 5: We met in the.
- 31:29Speaker 10: Middle and decreased frequency, but didn't eliminate anything. This one
- 31:32Speaker 10: is more saying, hey, we know this program can work,
- 31:35Speaker 10: and this is what we want to do, and this
- 31:36Speaker 10: is how we're actually going to save money and care
- 31:38Speaker 10: to and.
- 31:39Speaker 3: When you've had these public meetings, because you've had other
- 31:41Speaker 3: public meetings on this and people have come and they've
- 31:43Speaker 3: expressed concerns. People have said, I think this is a
- 31:46Speaker 3: good idea. Others, like I said, sometimes we don't like change.
- 31:48Speaker 3: I completely understand that what have you taken from those
- 31:51Speaker 3: public meetings and how valuable have they been in going
- 31:54Speaker 3: forward with these plans that.
- 31:55Speaker 10: You be sure And I think in different pieces and
- 31:58Speaker 10: I appreciate every person who comes in and takes the
- 32:00Speaker 10: time out of their day to come. And again you
- 32:03Speaker 10: say that, you know a lot of people don't take
- 32:04Speaker 10: time out of their day to come tell you you're
- 32:05Speaker 10: doing a good job. Yeah, they may want to show
- 32:07Speaker 10: up and tell you what they're frustrated with, and that's
- 32:09Speaker 10: that's completely fine. But the one thing we heard was, hey,
- 32:12Speaker 10: don't take it all away from us.
- 32:13Speaker 5: You can.
- 32:14Speaker 10: We understand that times are tough, we understand you have
- 32:16Speaker 10: a reality to live within, but don't take it all
- 32:18Speaker 10: away from us. And I was proud that we were
- 32:20Speaker 10: able to come back to the table and say, Okay,
- 32:22Speaker 10: maybe Sundays don't happen anymore, but six days a week,
- 32:25Speaker 10: we're still providing service to those areas. And even with
- 32:28Speaker 10: this change now saying hey, six routes that if they
- 32:32Speaker 10: don't have the fixed route service, they're still going to
- 32:34Speaker 10: have an opportunity to do to get to where they're
- 32:36Speaker 10: going with KRT and kr T plus.
- 32:38Speaker 3: Right, So you got five o'clock today and then noon
- 32:41Speaker 3: on Fridayriday, correct, yes, sir, and both at the Kana
- 32:43Speaker 3: Public Library. If for one reason or another people cannot
- 32:47Speaker 3: make those meeting, maybe they're working, or they get soubild
- 32:49Speaker 3: school and whatever. Is there a way for them to
- 32:52Speaker 3: weigh in as well.
- 32:53Speaker 10: Yeah, we will record those and individuals can actually either
- 32:56Speaker 10: hop on a zoom and watch it if they're somewhere,
- 32:58Speaker 10: but we will record those so they can watch them,
- 33:00Speaker 10: and we will have links up also where they can
- 33:02Speaker 10: submit their comcast to us. We take those comments and
- 33:04Speaker 10: send them out to our board members, so every single
- 33:06Speaker 10: one of them can be categorized and they can read
- 33:08Speaker 10: those and see because again it's real feedback. It's this
- 33:11Speaker 10: is real change for people's everyday life, and we appreciate
- 33:14Speaker 10: and respect that and want to do that as easily
- 33:16Speaker 10: as possible for people.
- 33:18Speaker 3: Sean Hill, executive director of kr SEE, I appreciate you
- 33:20Speaker 3: taking time ay your schedule to be here. As I said,
- 33:23Speaker 3: you know, change is not always easy, and you've always
- 33:27Speaker 3: been very open to come on the show and talk
- 33:29Speaker 3: about it and with these public meetings and whatever. So
- 33:32Speaker 3: we'll see how everything goes, and I hope you have
- 33:34Speaker 3: a good turnout because again that's that's what they need.
- 33:36Speaker 3: They need turnout. For those of you that use KRT,
- 33:40Speaker 3: it's noon on Friday and then five o'clock today public
- 33:43Speaker 3: meetings are held at the Canaw County Public Library. There's

- 38:18Speaker 3: Coming up on today's show though, Howard Monroe is going
- 38:21Speaker 3: to join us. Note Howard, if you're not familiar with Howard,
- 38:23Speaker 3: he's frequently on talk Line. He has a show similar
- 38:26Speaker 3: to this, although it's a little bit longer in length
- 38:29Speaker 3: in Wheeling. So we're going to talk to him about
- 38:32Speaker 3: the continued clean up there. And also with Howard, you know,
- 38:35Speaker 3: we're to get in some politics as where as well,
- 38:38Speaker 3: Howard is a lot more left of center than I am.
- 38:42Speaker 3: And for those of you who think that I'm liberal
- 38:45Speaker 3: and people think that and other people think I'm too conservative,
- 38:48Speaker 3: I don't know. This means I'm doing something right, I guess.
- 38:50Speaker 3: Howard definitely liberal. Great guy though, so He'll be on
- 38:54Speaker 3: the show during the two o'clock hour today. Also, State
- 38:56Speaker 3: Republican Party chair Matt Herridge will join us to weigh
- 38:58Speaker 3: in on Trump, on Israel, etc. We'll continue to talk
- 39:02Speaker 3: about the heat as you may expect, apparently the heat

- 39:16Speaker 3: this show Tomorrow, Tim Brady from the Charleston CVB. We'll
- 39:19Speaker 3: be stopping by, looking forward to our conversation as always
- 39:23Speaker 3: with mister Brady. Tex says Israel and Iran violate Trump's
- 39:27Speaker 3: peace deal. Trump was so mad he dropped the F
- 39:30Speaker 3: bomb on ceasepan. Check that clip out if you can
- 39:33Speaker 3: find it. It's hilarious and makes a coherent, valid statement,
- 39:36Speaker 3: and he makes a co erit valid statement, says to yeah,
- 39:39Speaker 3: he's a little upset. I heard that. I didn't hear
- 39:42Speaker 3: it live, but I did hear it overnight. The exact
- 39:45Speaker 3: quote was, and of course I lost that had it
- 39:48Speaker 3: on my phone and I lost it, but it was
- 39:49Speaker 3: basically something to the effect of Israel and Iran don't
- 39:53Speaker 3: know what the blank they are doing. That was the
- 39:55Speaker 3: exact statement. This comes, of course, after yesterday when it
- 39:59Speaker 3: was was a world win of activity yesterday afternoon, and
- 40:02Speaker 3: I've got to cover most of it on the on
- 40:04Speaker 3: Metro News midday yesterday, as I guess, after one o'clock
- 40:09Speaker 3: our time or something like that, Iran fired on Cutter
- 40:15Speaker 3: and the missiles that they fired were intercepted by Katari
- 40:18Speaker 3: officials and no casualties or anything like that. And then
- 40:23Speaker 3: a late afternoon President Trump announces a ceasefire, but apparently
- 40:29Speaker 3: that ceasefire didn't cease fire very much because the bombs
- 40:33Speaker 3: were still flying overnight. Just picturing one of the sizes goes, oh,
- 40:38Speaker 3: you meant that exactly. You meant a real I mean,
- 40:41Speaker 3: you meant that for real. So we'll see what happens.
- 40:44Speaker 3: It's an ever developing story of the guys on talk Line.
- 40:46Speaker 3: Of course, we'll have coverage and I'll have more coverage
- 40:48Speaker 3: coming up later today on Metro News midday. The governor
- 40:52Speaker 3: has a press event today in Beckley at eleven. Don't
- 40:55Speaker 3: really know what it's about, but the talk line boys
- 40:58Speaker 3: and of course Brad will be covering it as well.
- 41:00Speaker 3: I want to just drop this in here quickly. This story,
- 41:05Speaker 3: if you want to call it, that broke late last week.
- 41:07Speaker 3: It has to do with a couple of West Virginia
- 41:08Speaker 3: Circuit Court judges, one of those being Judge Mary Clair
- 41:11Speaker 3: Akers here in Kennawa County. Chris Dickerson of the West
- 41:14Speaker 3: Virginia Record, which follows and monitors the court system in
- 41:18Speaker 3: West Virginia, first reported on it, and it is reported
- 41:20Speaker 3: again today in the Gazette mail. Judge Acres and a
- 41:24Speaker 3: judge from Pleasant's County, Judge Tim Sweeney, word monished for
- 41:27Speaker 3: what was said to media members as it pertained to
- 41:30Speaker 3: child welfare issues. In the matter with Judge Acres, the
- 41:34Speaker 3: West Virginia Judicial Disciplinary Council open up a complaint in March,
- 41:38Speaker 3: and Judge Acres replied through her attorney in April in
- 41:42Speaker 3: via email. May thirteenth, and you will recall that the
- 41:46Speaker 3: Judge Acres had presided on an issue of abuse neglect.
- 41:52Speaker 3: Are actually several neglect cases this was involved a minor.
- 41:56Speaker 3: And here's what we understand about the story. Judge Acres
- 42:01Speaker 3: learned that a twelve year old had attempted suicide after
- 42:05Speaker 3: being placed in a hotel when a foster placement didn't
- 42:09Speaker 3: work out. Now, the article continues, Judge Acres entered and
- 42:11Speaker 3: administrative order calling for the Secretary of the State's DHR
- 42:15Speaker 3: to come before her to discuss the situation. The meeting
- 42:18Speaker 3: took place in February, late February, and there were actually
- 42:22Speaker 3: several media members their intendance. Judge Acres was quoted in
- 42:27Speaker 3: a story that was covered by WSAZ television and the
- 42:30Speaker 3: next day she was on talkline And apparently the complaint
- 42:33Speaker 3: or whatever it was, had to do with the fact
- 42:37Speaker 3: that on her talk line appearance she alluded to her
- 42:40Speaker 3: time as a prosecutor in Kanawh County. Seems like kind
- 42:44Speaker 3: of small potatoes to me, but what do I know.
- 42:48Speaker 3: By a seven to one vote, the JIC said it
- 42:51Speaker 3: found probable cause that Judge Acres had violated four rules
- 42:55Speaker 3: of Code of the Code of Judicial Conduct, but no
- 42:58Speaker 3: formal discipline was happening. And when I read that story,
- 43:02Speaker 3: and I read it last week, it was actually actually
- 43:05Speaker 3: Judge Acres. Actually, well, I'll know, should I say that
- 43:07Speaker 3: that she talked to the media, Maybe I shouldn't. It
- 43:10Speaker 3: just seems like a lot of crap to me. Then
- 43:12Speaker 3: that's just me. I mean, in my opinion, she did
- 43:15Speaker 3: absolutely nothing wrong around of bounds, and most people seem
- 43:18Speaker 3: to agree with it. I've actually had several people that
- 43:19Speaker 3: have reached out to me asking to come on the show,
- 43:23Speaker 3: to come to Judge Acres defense, you know, and similar
- 43:26Speaker 3: stories may have been told about the judge out of
- 43:28Speaker 3: Pleasants County as well, So a lot of people out
- 43:32Speaker 3: to defender. Not that the woman we affectionately called Judge
- 43:35Speaker 3: kick Ass needs needs any help. By the way, TJ.
- 43:39Speaker 3: Meadows has written a commentary about it. It'll probably be
- 43:41Speaker 3: posted on the website tomorrow and will be heard on
- 43:44Speaker 3: air tomorrow morning. Again, it seems like much ado about
- 43:47Speaker 3: nothing to me, but not my wheelhouse.
- 43:50Speaker 5: So what do I know?

- 47:07Speaker 3: When is the legislature going to start paying attention to
- 47:11Speaker 3: the giant jump and all these evil acts being done
- 47:13Speaker 3: to innocent animals and actually do something about it. Reach
- 47:15Speaker 3: out to your legislators. Reach out to your legislators. I
- 47:18Speaker 3: agree with you more Uh Texas, Dave. I'm not a judge,
- 47:23Speaker 3: but if Judge Acres is wrong, I don't want to
- 47:26Speaker 3: be right. State leaders should be ashamed that a judge
- 47:28Speaker 3: gets reprimanded for speaking the truth about their failed foster
- 47:32Speaker 3: care system. Our state leaders are worthless when it comes
- 47:35Speaker 3: to child welfare, healthcare, and education in the state. They
- 47:38Speaker 3: are white people don't want to come here, not the
- 47:41Speaker 3: likes of Judge Acres as a Texter. Of course, the
- 47:45Speaker 3: story that has many of us upset is the fact
- 47:49Speaker 3: that Graziano's is closing their downtown Capitol Street location second time.
- 47:54Speaker 3: The day of announced that this time it appears to
- 47:57Speaker 3: be for real. Though it's sad, you know, I really
- 48:00Speaker 3: like Graziano's, especially the downtown location. It's kind of got
- 48:04Speaker 3: that that that big city Delhi, real pizza style feel
- 48:08Speaker 3: to it. I am sad to see it go, but
- 48:10Speaker 3: I will say this. I was downtown Friday night for
- 48:14Speaker 3: the launch of Animal Ale. That was the night that's
- 48:17Speaker 3: Steve Animal beer being sold exclusively at Five Street Brewery.
- 48:20Speaker 3: We had a big launch party six o'clock Friday evening,
- 48:23Speaker 3: and the vibe in downtown Charleston Friday night was absolutely amazing.
- 48:29Speaker 3: I mean, people everywhere the and it was it was
- 48:33Speaker 3: the kind of people that you want downtown. And what
- 48:38Speaker 3: I mean by that is all walks of life, professional people, families,
- 48:45Speaker 3: downtown just enjoying. Well. I guess technically was spring at
- 48:49Speaker 3: that time because summer didn't kick Inndle Friday night, but
- 48:53Speaker 3: for all intends and purposes, it was summer, summertime evening
- 48:56Speaker 3: in the capital city. Just everybody. We actually a couple
- 49:01Speaker 3: of us from the station actually walked here. I know
- 49:03Speaker 3: you're thinking, Dave Allen walked. Yeah, I actually walked from
- 49:05Speaker 3: here from our offices at eleven eleven down over to
- 49:09Speaker 3: Summer Street to five Street, and uh, it's just the
- 49:14Speaker 3: I don't know, man, just the vibe downtown I just
- 49:16Speaker 3: thought was really really cool. And that's what It's what
- 49:19Speaker 3: the City of Charleston had said that they wanted when
- 49:23Speaker 3: they first started developing these things, like you know, closing
- 49:25Speaker 3: the streets for downtown eateries and things that in all
- 49:28Speaker 3: the naysayers everybody said, oh, it'll never work, and by blah, Well,
- 49:31Speaker 3: this seems to be working pretty well. I mean, based
- 49:33Speaker 3: on the amount of people that were in downtown Charleston
- 49:35Speaker 3: on Friday evening. And again no issues whatsoever. Not saying
- 49:39Speaker 3: downtown Charleston's perfect. No, downtown it's perfect by any stretch
- 49:42Speaker 3: of the imagination, but I will say there were a
- 49:44Speaker 3: whole lot of people down there. All the restaurants were
- 49:47Speaker 3: just booming, and uh, it was just a great vibe
- 49:51Speaker 3: for the capital city. And if we had people in
- 49:53Speaker 3: from from out of town, even even better, a great look,
- 49:58Speaker 3: if you will. I mean it, it took us a
- 50:00Speaker 3: while to even get into five Street. That says something
- 50:02Speaker 3: about the popularity of Steve Animal or the amount of
- 50:05Speaker 3: people he owes money to one of the two. But
- 50:07Speaker 3: everybody was just kind of crowding in there. To five Street.
- 50:10Speaker 3: It was the same at Short Story, it was the
- 50:12Speaker 3: same ati Aadelphia and all of those downtown Charleston locations.
- 50:17Speaker 3: So hats off. And then I didn't make it over
- 50:21Speaker 3: to the Rolls on the River because by that point
- 50:23Speaker 3: I was pretty much tired and I'm old and need
- 50:26Speaker 3: to get back home to Putnam County. But Rolls on
- 50:29Speaker 3: the River was great. And then what happened on Saturday
- 50:33Speaker 3: on the boulevard. I mean, we shut down basically from
- 50:37Speaker 3: an area from Greenbrier Street down to California and thousands,
- 50:42Speaker 3: literally thousands of people at fohone with the dome. And
- 50:45Speaker 3: again people will say I don't want to be around
- 50:48Speaker 3: a bunch of drunks. There was absolutely none of that whatsoever,
- 50:51Speaker 3: zero zilch, none of it. No issues with either event.
- 50:54Speaker 3: So again I just say that to say this, I am.
- 50:57Speaker 3: I'm very happy that at least it's not perfect, but
- 51:01Speaker 3: he stretch of the imagination so got a wye to go.
- 51:03Speaker 3: But I am very happy to say the downtown Charleston
- 51:05Speaker 3: is turning in some corners with having events. That's not
- 51:08Speaker 3: like an editorial on behalf of me. They're turning some
- 51:10Speaker 3: corners when it comes to things like that. But Dave
- 51:12Speaker 3: Island showing five eighty Live is brought to you by
- 51:14Speaker 3: Morgan and Morgan. If you're injured and higher Morgan to Morgan,
- 51:17Speaker 3: America's largest injury law firm, TG Meadows Susman Man, Are
- 51:20Speaker 3: I mean, could you be any busier this morning because
- 51:22Speaker 3: you come down frequently and you work in the production
- 51:26Speaker 3: studio where Ryan and I've just been seeing you going
- 51:29Speaker 3: back and forth on a fund. Are you just trying
- 51:31Speaker 3: to make yourself look important though?
- 51:33Speaker 15: I mean there's a lot going on. There's a lot
- 51:35Speaker 15: going on Iran Israel. What's going on with that? In
- 51:38Speaker 15: case you haven't notice, it's really hot outside.
- 51:40Speaker 3: Yeah, so I've been Have you noticed as a temperature
- 51:43Speaker 3: goes up, it tends to get hotter. It's solid science there, Dave.
- 51:48Speaker 5: I'm not.
- 51:51Speaker 3: I'm not just a pretty face. Well, you know, so
- 51:53Speaker 3: I'm watching energy markets.
- 51:55Speaker 15: I'm watching the actual stock market this morning based on
- 51:58Speaker 15: what's going on with the ceasefire, the oil markets. Oil
- 52:00Speaker 15: futures are going down and oil prices are going down,
- 52:03Speaker 15: and the market doesn't think that Iran's going to do
- 52:05Speaker 15: anything with the straight up her moose and they're not.
- 52:08Speaker 15: President is upset, you know, he drops some language this morning.
- 52:11Speaker 15: So there's a lot going on in the world. There's
- 52:14Speaker 15: a NATO summit coming up, you know, a lot happening, so,
- 52:17Speaker 15: you know, trying to keep on top of all of.
- 52:18Speaker 3: It, all right, and the governor speaking in backly eleven o'clock.
- 52:20Speaker 3: We'll find out what it's about, because we don't know
- 52:22Speaker 3: as of yet. We don't, so it's hey, come to
- 52:25Speaker 3: the press conference and see what we're going to talk about.
- 52:27Speaker 15: There you go.
- 52:27Speaker 3: I'll be back with Metro News midday solo this week again.
- 52:31Speaker 3: Amanda's on vacation, so just me and you coming up
