- 0:00Hello everyone and welcome to the random Heathen ramblings

- 0:06Heathen re related. My name is Jessie.
- 0:09I am your host. Let's get into it.
- 0:30Welcome back, everybody. Hello and welcome to the random
- 0:33even ramblings podcast. Once again, once again coming up
- 0:40here just a couple of short days away about well, three short
- 0:45days away from the local. Heathen lesson, Heathen class.
- 0:53I guess you might call. It's more of a, it's a park
- 0:54moot, you know, it's a park meet up here in Murfreesboro at the
- 0:58casein casein lane or casein Trailhead Park.
- 1:03Doing a doing a kind of a collaborative class as it were
- 1:07an outdoor class talking about the Heathen World Views of death
- 1:12in the afterlife or calling it. Where in hell, do you think
- 1:16you're going? Collaborating with Greg from
- 1:20Raven, Moon, Hearth myself. So if you are in the area, Close
- 1:26enough to Murfreesboro. Want to make a little day trip.
- 1:29It's going to be this Sunday at 2 p.m. so check the description.
- 1:34Check the show notes for the event details.
- 1:37If you're not the Facebook type, because there is a Facebook
- 1:39event for it with the address and all that, if you're not the
- 1:43Facebook goer and you just need an address and you want to make
- 1:46it out those details will be annotated as well in the show
- 1:49notes and description of the podcast.
- 1:52So come out say Hi. Listen to hear what?
- 1:56We have to say about these very complex Concepts that seem to
- 2:02get a lot of different, you know, views and opinions on
- 2:07especially nowadays in modern times there's there's all kinds
- 2:09of stuff floating around but we're going to do our best to
- 2:12with the time that we have that afternoon focus on the
- 2:17historical side of things. What information we have I'm not
- 2:23going to be recording it so it's not going to be one of these,
- 2:25you know. Don't miss, if you don't show up
- 2:28to the event live in person, you're going to catch it later
- 2:31on in a video or anything like that.
- 2:33I'm not going to have the means of recording for as long as
- 2:38we're doing this plus it's going to be a bit more interactive.
- 2:40There's going to be more, you know, crowd work, as it were.
- 2:46We want people to participate. We want people to partake and be
- 2:49a part of it. So yeah.
- 2:52Hopefully you'll make a make a trip out and Say hi, and see.
- 2:56We got to say. So that's something to look
- 2:59forward to. And it's also the day, you know,
- 3:01that this this coming Sunday is, is when we do the stupid
- 3:05daylight saving time deal, where, you know, we do it, we do
- 3:11it twice a year here in this part of the United States.
- 3:14At least we're in the springtime, the clocks. move
- 3:18forward an hour, which The day that that happens, you know, we
- 3:25lose an hour of sleep. So they say, I don't know how
- 3:28that's possible but because to lose something you have to
- 3:32misplace it. So where did you put that hour
- 3:35of sleep? Who knows, but that's how it
- 3:38feels I guess, right? That's how people. describe it
- 3:42as you know, the you spring the clocks ahead or you move the
- 3:45clocks ahead an hour and you lose an hour of sleep and then
- 3:49on the opposite end of the spectrum on the When Daylight
- 3:53Saving Time ends. There's we set our clocks back
- 3:58an hour, and we gain an hour of sleep that day.
- 4:01Again, it's a very weird concept but it happens and it's a thing
- 4:07so that that does put us in a frame of mind of getting more
- 4:12Daylight. It's not even a frame of mind,
- 4:15it's the perception right? Because we're starting our days
- 4:19there thereafter at the same time of day as we normally would
- 4:22but but the sun is visible longer.
- 4:25So you know more daylight hours to do more outdoor activities as
- 4:29the sun warms the Earth and we get more Springtime weather so
- 4:35good times for that. That'll mean that, you know,
- 4:37when I get off of work and I want to go down to the river for
- 4:40an hour or two or something I can.
- 4:41I can do that and not have to be concerned.
- 4:44With, you know, night time coming early.
- 4:46So yay, get to do all those fun things.
- 4:54So, what are we talking about today, guys?
- 4:57This is a Gonna be a lot of. no, I know, I know a lot of my stuff
- 5:05that when I talk about things, especially the other Heathen
- 5:07nature that has any sort of backing that we can refer to,
- 5:13from historical sources, whether it be sagas or other scalded
- 5:18poems, or other medieval sources or anything like that, you know,
- 5:25We like to refer to those things here on this podcast, went as we
- 5:30can. But this topic today is a bit
- 5:33more on the just personal experience side of things
- 5:37because I think this topic is a personal one.
- 5:40And so it's going to affect and and be impactful different ways
- 5:46for different people. And so what I'm hoping is that,
- 5:50you know, by the end of this podcast, that will get a lot of
- 5:52comments either in the Comment section of the video on the
- 5:57YouTube channel or will get some people responding to the the
- 6:01question that's posted through Spotify.
- 6:04Or if you catch this on on any of my other social platforms
- 6:07will you know, Facebook, Twitter Instagram, if you want to
- 6:10comment your thoughts in the comment sections are.
- 6:12I'm hoping to get some Some some discussion around this sort of
- 6:16thing. But this this topic kind of is a
- 6:22This is one of those things where I don't.
- 6:26I don't have as much of a horse in this race as say, a lot of
- 6:31other people, but we're talking today about reconnecting to the
- 6:36sacred, reconnecting to Our God's or getting back in touch
- 6:43with the Divine. As it were, I, we can use those
- 6:45terms. Because we've lost touch with
- 6:50them or we or because we feel like we've lost touch with them
- 6:53or we've become disconnected with them, due to challenges,
- 6:59due to, you know, strife's, whether it be physical, mental
- 7:10challenges, things, that, that just plagued various people in
- 7:13different ways, or at least affect different people in
- 7:16different ways. And, you know, so this this,
- 7:20this topic is due to a question or sort of question.
- 7:26It was, it was a message that I received from a good friend of
- 7:28mine. He's been on this podcast and
- 7:30number of times, he was actually out here.
- 7:31Last year came to Tennessee. Stay with me for the weekend and
- 7:36was was in person with me on the podcast and Patrick Walsh out
- 7:41there in Missouri. He's again, he's a great guy,
- 7:45you know, he's a good friend Always has whenever I talk to
- 7:50him this despite what is going on with him, you know.
- 7:53And some of the things that he may be facing always, has an
- 7:56upbeat attitude, but he sent a message.
- 8:01And I'm going to play a small segment of that message for you
- 8:05guys to hear what that question is.
- 8:09And, you know, he had asked about it being a post over or
- 8:12video, maybe. So, here we are.
- 8:16But so yeah. So so this is, this is It's
- 8:21going to play it right now for you.
- 8:22So so here's what he has to say. It's like a post idea or a video
- 8:29idea that I wanted to mention was you know try to rekindle
- 8:32that flame after stripes and afflictions via depression or
- 8:38and the other circumstances that may arise.
- 8:40You know I think that'd be a really cool video to post.
- 8:43Yeah, you know, so Disconnect when when we when we feel as as
- 8:50human beings, you know, when we feel disconnected from anything
- 8:54right? I mean whether it's I don't want
- 8:56to hang out with my friends, I don't want to you know go out
- 9:02and be social, you know, we this is this is not a very uncommon
- 9:08thing and again it affects different people in different
- 9:10ways, you know. So we're going to be getting
- 9:13kind of visceral. This might be, you know, You're
- 9:16early trigger warning. And we're going to be talking
- 9:17about things like mental health, depression, anxiety, that sort
- 9:23of thing. So if those are triggers for you
- 9:26and you'd rather not Be a part of it then now's your chance to
- 9:31turn this one off and tune in next week for a different topic
- 9:34but he came up or he reached out to me through this message and
- 9:40which I always encourage, you know, like I've said this
- 9:42multiple times you know whatever way that you feel like you want
- 9:45to communicate your thoughts to me.
- 9:47If you are connected to me on my personal, social media is and
- 9:53you want to send a voice message.
- 9:54I don't know how that function works on.
- 9:58Like your Facebook type platforms on the public
- 10:02profiles. But either way you're more than
- 10:05welcome to send me a message through that platform.
- 10:08You can call in to the podcast which is a 24-hour hotline.
- 10:13Basically it goes straight to voicemail.
- 10:15I listen back to them and if it's something that can be added
- 10:19to this podcast, I do but that number is 6, 1, 5 6, 7 1983 to
- 10:27And it is, it's a 24 hours 7 days a week, it's always open.
- 10:32I never answer. You'll be just leaving a
- 10:33voicemail so you can remain anonymous and yeah, so you can
- 10:38do that. You can email me midgard musings
- 10:39TN at gmail.com. So That's just, you know,
- 10:48multiple ways that you can contact me.
- 10:50And I always encourage this, I'm glad, you know, Patrick and I
- 10:53have been friends for a while. So we talk almost every day at
- 10:56least in some form or fashion. Usually it's just messaging back
- 10:59and forth on a on Facebook, but let's go.
- 11:02It's always good to hear his voice and he does.
- 11:05He has some really good things and I have to be honest, you
- 11:11know, like when I hear about stuff like this, I feel like I
- 11:14am the last person in the world to be speaking about it because
- 11:21I don't, I don't want to say, I don't deal with these things
- 11:25because everybody deals with things in their life in
- 11:29different ways. But I don't, I don't.
- 11:38I don't know, I don't have as much of a problem with it and
- 11:43again I'm not using that word problem as like, it's a bad
- 11:45thing. If you're dealing with it
- 11:46because it's not it doesn't impact me as deeply or as
- 11:51heavily. And I think one of the things
- 11:53that is tough for some people to wrap their mind around is when
- 12:00somebody who doesn't deal with a certain thing, let's just use
- 12:04for the sake of this podcast and for the sake of the discussion,
- 12:07You know, it's let's talk about things like anxiety, depression.
- 12:14Whether it be, you know, any sort of bipolar illnesses or
- 12:19other sorts of mental health issues.
- 12:23Some people can maybe think that if you're not going through
- 12:28those things yourself, then you have no business talking about
- 12:32how to deal with those things because you couldn't possibly
- 12:36understand what that person is going through.
- 12:40Having not going through it. Yourself.
- 12:44And I've heard that many many times from from many people.
- 12:48People very very close to me and I so I'm very sensitive about
- 12:53talking on topics that You know, I don't have a very deep, you
- 13:03know, I don't speak from a place of experience, right?
- 13:07I think that that oftentimes validates people, you know?
- 13:12So if you're talking to someone who's going through the same
- 13:15things as you, there's that, you know, relatability so you can
- 13:19say, yeah, you know exactly what I'm going through.
- 13:20And so, can you help me with these sorts of things?
- 13:23And I get that but suffice it to say.
- 13:26He did ask And he did want to know about, you know, things
- 13:31that can help us reconnect or help him reconnect.
- 13:35And he was asking no suggestions ideas and I admire that, you
- 13:39know, putting yourself out there Patrick and or anybody for that
- 13:43matter, just putting yourself out there.
- 13:45Making yourself vulnerable in this way and asking for help
- 13:48instead of trying to just, you know, push it down, maybe bury
- 13:53it back, deep in the, you know, confines of the deepest darkest
- 13:57corners of your minds and not facing it.
- 14:01Not dealing with it that that can definitely do more harm than
- 14:05good. You know, repressing those
- 14:06things instead of dealing with them, I think had on or you know
- 14:11facing them up front, you know? So so hearing somebody put
- 14:17themselves out there and becoming vulnerable like that.
- 14:19It's admirable. So I do just want to say that to
- 14:22begin with. So again this podcast is not
- 14:26going to be surrounded about you know what is this Saga?
- 14:28Say about this sort of thing or how did our ancient Heathen and
- 14:31sisters do this? Let's look at some Source
- 14:33material. I don't know of anything that
- 14:36could even cover this sort of thing because by and large this
- 14:40topic is is while you know, things of this nature haven't
- 14:44become You know, brand new like this is stuff that I'm sure
- 14:50Humanity for for a very, very long long, long period of time
- 14:53has had to deal with in varying degrees, but the talking about
- 14:57it and facing it and actually treating it, you know, back in
- 14:59the medieval times or even not so long ago, maybe even the last
- 15:05hundred two hundred years, you know, usually people that dealt
- 15:08with any sort of mental illnesses or other sorts of
- 15:13things were looked upon as being touched.
- 15:16Act right, we're possessed or or having things that required,
- 15:20some extreme form of treatment and it wasn't approached or
- 15:28dealt with holistically up until more or less very recently. so,
- 15:34I would hate to have to go back and look at, you know, or try to
- 15:39dig up anything of a historical nature.
- 15:41That's it, you know, how was this dealt with?
- 15:42Because it's probably not pretty and we don't want to revisit
- 15:45that. I don't think we want to look at
- 15:48modern medicine and other ways of dealing with these types of
- 15:54things in a more holistic, and helpful, sort of way. now, I
- 16:00will say though that I think That the dynamic has changed a
- 16:05lot. There's a lot more going on.
- 16:07Nowadays that can feed this. Or feed varying degrees of
- 16:16mental illness. You know there's all sorts of
- 16:18things that can trigger responses from people and
- 16:23there's a lot more going on in this world now than what was
- 16:27going on, you know, back in the day and what I mean by that is
- 16:31all these distractions. All of these so-called modern
- 16:34conveniences, all of these you know ways to make life seemingly
- 16:39more convenient and helpful that that often backfire, right?
- 16:44So social media is a big one. I've alluded to some of this and
- 16:48other podcasts before where I've talked about how there are.
- 16:52There's definite benefit to having things like this podcasts
- 16:56and social media platforms. That allow people who with a
- 17:00voice to speak it and and share their thoughts and ideas and be
- 17:06heard by a vast audience. You know, of hundreds, if not
- 17:10thousands or more people across The world and that can be a good
- 17:15thing and it can also be a very terrible thing and a damaging
- 17:18thing, you know, because people are cruel and when they are
- 17:23protected as it were by anonymity or when they don't
- 17:30have to face someone and look someone in the face, they can,
- 17:33they can say whatever they want. You can do whatever you want and
- 17:36speak in any sort of way behind a keyboard behind a computer
- 17:39screen behind a camera. And and have little to no
- 17:44consequences for your actions. I've even been accused of this
- 17:49by some of the content that I've posted out here, where it's like
- 17:52a, you wouldn't say that to their face.
- 17:53I'm like bet. You know, I've said things to
- 17:57people's faces before I've called people out on their
- 18:01things. I've, I've you don't, you know,
- 18:03my background from a professional angle, because has
- 18:11conditioned me me to face confrontation and and deal with
- 18:17it, you know when you can deescalate but when the
- 18:23escalation is Impossible because it's gone too far beyond that.
- 18:29Then the only way that you are able to, to address the
- 18:34situation is to confront it head-on.
- 18:36And to run basically Into the Fire, And I've been conditioned
- 18:40for that for years so no, you know, having a voice, having a
- 18:45platform to speak, I speak my mind and I speak it with, with
- 18:50consideration of, you know what those ramifications are.
- 18:54But I don't, I don't say things behind a camera that I wouldn't
- 18:57say to someone's face, you know? So, when I say things about, you
- 19:00know, onanism or or whatever it's like, yeah, no.
- 19:03But best believe. I'll say that to anybody's face.
- 19:05I'm not gonna sugarcoat it or pussyfoot around the topic, just
- 19:08Was there in front of me now? But anyway going that's you
- 19:12know, going a bit off topic. Having having these platforms as
- 19:19a source of enjoyment, you know? But again people can take
- 19:23advantage of it and all of these things, this is just one example
- 19:27of of ways that, you know, our minds can be so inundated.
- 19:33And so, overwhelmed and saturated with just nonsense and
- 19:39bullshit. You know, where, as back in the
- 19:46day, you know, we didn't have these things.
- 19:48Sure there might be television or whatever, I'm talking, like,
- 19:50even before all of that. Where you know your your your
- 19:54free time was spent either resting in between work that
- 19:59needed to be done or you were constantly doing something to
- 20:02keep your homestead up and running because again, it was a,
- 20:07it was, you know, if work wasn't done and then you didn't eat,
- 20:10you didn't have shelter, you didn't, you weren't protected
- 20:13from the elements. You didn't have all of the
- 20:16things that we as a modern society for the most part tend
- 20:20to take for granted We flip a switch.
- 20:24We've got light, we turn a faucet on.
- 20:26We've got water, we're cold. We turn up the thermostat where
- 20:30hot we turned down the thermostat, you know, we're
- 20:33hungry. We open up a refrigerator or a
- 20:35cabinet and there's a slew of things available to us for the
- 20:38most part, right? The again, just the modern, the
- 20:41dynamic of things have changed. So we've got all of these things
- 20:44that have that have really helped in terms of advancing a
- 20:46society, as we think of it as being more, You know, Carefree
- 20:51or having a better quality of life, but I think in the interim
- 20:54we've lost the sense of what that quality of life really
- 20:57means. Have we really improved our
- 21:00quote quality of life or have. We just giving ourselves more
- 21:04toys and more conveniences that have allowed us to disconnect
- 21:08and become disconnected with what is truly important.
- 21:12So thinking of it along those lines, right?
- 21:16If we look at or when I should say, look at the way life was,
- 21:22you know, a couple hundred years ago even and then much earlier
- 21:26than that. We talked about like the Viking
- 21:28age or before thousands of years ago.
- 21:35So much about how life was the quality of life.
- 21:40Again, it it mattered, the things that you did like you had
- 21:42to do all these things. You had a tender, your crops you
- 21:45had to make sure you're, you know, you had a good thatched
- 21:48roof that your walls were secure that you're, you know, had
- 21:51enough wood to last you for the winter to keep your warm your
- 21:54house warm and all these various things, right?
- 21:57But aside from that. So I from the physical doing of
- 21:59these things, these people had a very dependent attitude upon Or
- 22:05on the sacred, on their Divine, on their gods and on the spirits
- 22:11of a tier, one of the topics, you know, that we just talked
- 22:13about last week and last last podcast, land bit here.
- 22:18These spirits that cohabitate in and around us.
- 22:22These people had a very connected and deep appreciation,
- 22:28adoration veneration for them because they felt that without
- 22:31them They would suffer there. Their quality of life would
- 22:37would would be less, you know, they would not have good crops
- 22:40so if they didn't want to didn't want to upset and they didn't
- 22:42want to make anyone mad, you know.
- 22:44And I say anyone talking about like the guys, I didn't want to
- 22:46upset the gods, you know, and it wasn't so much out of fear of
- 22:49consequence, I think, but I think it might was it wasn't
- 22:52like fear. I'm afraid.
- 22:53I'm deathly afraid. I think it was more of a, again,
- 22:55a healthy veneration of, keep them happy.
- 22:59Let's stay connected to them. Let's do all of the the right
- 23:04things that we should be doing based off of our Traditions, off
- 23:07of our cultural and Regional Traditions, that we know are
- 23:11keeping Our God's whatever names they put to him as satisfied
- 23:17with us and in their favor and this goes across multiple
- 23:21cultures, right? Look this is not a foreign
- 23:23concept across many cultures and religions even. so, I think one
- 23:29of the, one of the things that we have to Face, you know, that
- 23:33we can't avoid is, why are people feeling disconnected?
- 23:38And is it really due to this? You know how to say, is it
- 23:44really? I'm definitely has to do with,
- 23:46you know, some of the things that Patrick was mentioning,
- 23:48right? Just the the stripes, the
- 23:49trials, the challenges of having different, whether it be
- 23:53physical, or mental maladies maladies.
- 23:57Yeah. But is the other contributor.
- 24:03The fact that, you know, we've got these, you know, these
- 24:08phones, these, these Electronics, these all these
- 24:12things that take our Focus away from doing things that kind of
- 24:18force us to get back in and connected to the gods.
- 24:21And how do we connect to the guys?
- 24:23I've talked a lot about this in the past two as well, connecting
- 24:27to the Divine connecting to the sacred connecting to Nature,
- 24:29right? Because now you, you know, you
- 24:31want to get Call her you know, fluffy bunny.
- 24:37Woo you know he even raised in nature religion and all paganism
- 24:41is a nature religion. I mean, yeah, the the importance
- 24:45of Nature's is definitely there but he then read definitely has
- 24:49a very high importance on that which is holy that which is
- 24:55sacred. You know there's plenty of
- 24:57accounts, don't remember the name of the Saga.
- 25:03But there it's a skull B poem. I'll find it and I'll annotate
- 25:09it down in the description for you guys to look at.
- 25:12But there's is a particular Saga of this, this this He was like a
- 25:20skull door or Muse, or something.
- 25:23He was an important guy. He was, he he was under the
- 25:25employ of a king more than one king actually several Kings and
- 25:33he was going to, he was on some sort of official errand.
- 25:38You know, so he's hanging out in the king's court, he's doing
- 25:41what he is supposed to be doing there.
- 25:43And then he's been sent. He sent out on this, errand, to
- 25:46go talk to a yarol or somebody and he, and along the way, we'll
- 25:54leave. This was in Sweden, too.
- 25:56Along the way he's looking for shelter, looking to, for places
- 26:00to stay and three different times, three or four different
- 26:04times. You know, he comes to somebody's
- 26:05house, gets denied, goes to another place.
- 26:09Gets denied, those to know, Place gets denied, he's getting
- 26:11turned down left and right because at this particular time
- 26:16when he was traveling was during Alpha bloat It was a winter
- 26:20nights celebration, I believe if I remember correctly that time
- 26:25of year. But anyway, it was it was an
- 26:26alpha blow celebration and it was explicitly forbidden.
- 26:30For Outsiders, that weren't part of the family, part of the clan
- 26:33to be there. And there's there's a statement
- 26:37made in one of the verses, the standards of The Saga that the
- 26:41woman that answers the door tells them to go away.
- 26:44Calls him a bunch of names. One of which is, you know, your
- 26:48something like a filthy Christian or something like that
- 26:49because he was, he was, he was a Christian.
- 26:53He wasn't Heaton. And again I may be misconstruing
- 26:57things so don't take my word for it.
- 26:59I'm going to leave the information down in the
- 27:01description and in the show notes for you guys to find the
- 27:03Saga itself. But she says, you can't come in
- 27:07here. You're not Heathen and you're
- 27:10not going to. We Fear The Wrath of Odin.
- 27:14We don't want to piss him off or or do anything that's going to
- 27:19ruin. What's going on here we are.
- 27:20We are celebrating our Alpha bloat and you are not welcome
- 27:23here. you know, so there's there's definitely That's,
- 27:33that's crazy. I'm over here, just rambling on
- 27:36about a saga and I lost the track of where I was going with
- 27:41it. And why?
- 27:44Go figure but the point being is is I'm sure I'm going to
- 27:49re-watch. It seems like yeah just so you
- 27:51know. Get ahold of yourself your man
- 27:55and you're going to, you know, be listening to watch it.
- 27:56But anyways, you know the the point being is These people were
- 28:01connected to their gods, to their ancestors, to all the
- 28:06various. Spiritual bodies that that they
- 28:12believed in and they were so devoutly connected to it and
- 28:16into that, to those Traditions, that they would refuse to to
- 28:20sway, and they didn't allow, you know, just anybody to come in
- 28:25and ruin that we've lost that. Now, in today, I think a lot of,
- 28:29I think, a lot of people and I've been guilty of this myself
- 28:33to, you know, in the spirit of hospitality in the spirit of
- 28:36wanting to be just, you know, Actually welcoming and open to
- 28:40anybody. And everybody, you know, what is
- 28:43that actually doing for the well-being for our spiritual
- 28:47health for our, for the well-being of how we connect
- 28:50with the gods? Are we being to open and are we
- 28:53being too hospitable as it were to just anybody?
- 28:57And everybody are we keeping up? Those safeguards are we guarding
- 29:01ourselves and our nearest and dearest to prevent nefarious and
- 29:05unwanted things from infiltrating Are our space now.
- 29:10You can literally you could put that in the literal sense, you
- 29:14know, opening your home to people letting just anybody and
- 29:19everybody come over because, you know, you're lonely.
- 29:23And you want to hang out. Or you can take it to another
- 29:27level and allow and and say are you allowing people into your
- 29:32heart into your mind into your space into you yourself?
- 29:35Are you are you are being too hospitable to welcoming to open?
- 29:38Are you to just universally accepting because of reasons?
- 29:43You know. And again, it's not that that
- 29:45could be the reason why or that it is the reason why but could
- 29:48it be a contributor as to why some people are feeling
- 29:51disconnected to the Gods. Disconnected from the gods and
- 29:56how to rekindle that connection? How to breathe new life into
- 30:01those fires. You know, I've talked about it
- 30:03before you guys have, I probably sound like a broken record, but
- 30:05you know, I've said it before, I get your feet bare foot,
- 30:08anchored connected and grounded into the Earth, even if it's
- 30:10just for a few minutes a day, put your feet on bare Earth, get
- 30:14out of your shoes, get out of your socks, get out of your
- 30:16house, get out of the pavement, and put your feet on Earth.
- 30:20Get out back into nature, right? Doing all these things, which in
- 30:23the Moment for the moment can and have been proven to really
- 30:29be beneficial to physical health mental health, right?
- 30:33So I'm going to, I'm going to elude that to that.
- 30:36Right now, I'm just going to say, hey, don't forget those
- 30:38things, but the religiosity of it.
- 30:40The the how we're practicing our Heathen re or our paganism or
- 30:45are our ways, you know, are we just is the reason that we've
- 30:51become so disconnected with the gods is because we've not
- 30:56safeguarded their presence when they are nearer when we want to
- 31:02be near with them when we create Sacred Space, when we either,
- 31:07you know, do whatever we do in our, in our individual cultic
- 31:12practices, the things that are sanctimonious, they know that
- 31:17their sanctity involved there, there is, there should be
- 31:19privacy, there should be, you know, Limited view of the
- 31:25outside world to it. And I've had to think about this
- 31:27to a lot myself over overtime, you know, I look to as a, as a
- 31:35as a content creator, you know, and as as a someone in content
- 31:39creation I feel like there's a an obligation for me to share
- 31:48maybe a bit more than what I would be inclined to share, and
- 31:53I've had to really rethink that and put some Ask the hard
- 32:01questions, you know, are you know, what is more important is
- 32:04it? Maintaining the Integrity of
- 32:08your Sacred Space and being connected to, to the Divine, in
- 32:13the Gods in my way, is that more important?
- 32:16Or is it more important for me to post a picture of something
- 32:19that, you know, gets, you know, x amount of reactions, x amount
- 32:24of likes, x amount of comments, you know, people love it.
- 32:29People enjoy it. I appreciate the engagement
- 32:32again. It's kind of like the name of
- 32:33this game. You know, you got to do things.
- 32:35That people enjoy and that people like otherwise you get
- 32:38buried under the minutiae of every other, you know, Viking
- 32:44want to be, broce a true dude with a mjolnir that he bought
- 32:48off Amazon type. So again, as I was mentioning
- 32:56before, like I may not be, I may not be subject to the same
- 33:00feelings of depression, or anxiousness, or anxiety, or any
- 33:07of the other things that really have a, have a hold of people,
- 33:12you know, I can empathize. Because I want to, I don't, you
- 33:19know, my wife is one of those people who battles with a lot of
- 33:22these things and, you know, it hurts me to see her hurt in that
- 33:26way. And I wish I could just take it
- 33:28all away, and I can't really relate.
- 33:30I can't sympathize because I don't experience that in the
- 33:33same way. But again, going back to, you
- 33:39know, Patrick's deal or Patrick's question.
- 33:41I should say. And what he was what he was
- 33:43asking for suggestions on is you know, what can we do to get that
- 33:48reconnection when things like depression, anxiety, mental
- 33:54health. Take it take its toll on us and
- 33:58that is the thing that is causing us to feel like we're
- 34:01disconnected with the gods. Again, I want to go back to is
- 34:06It is it that? Or is it just a symptom of it?
- 34:10You know, like that's their there's things going on that
- 34:14maybe you're overlooking. Again, I don't know.
- 34:18I'm not, I'm not I'm not the best person.
- 34:20I feel to talk about this because I can't come from a
- 34:23place of experiencing the same thing.
- 34:26So my feedback and my discussion around it is going to be based
- 34:31off of just things that I know. And the things that I've
- 34:33personally felt. So, you know, maybe the
- 34:36disconnect from the gods is because we've allowed ourselves
- 34:40to just be a bit too frivolous with our time and space and
- 34:47energy. And maybe we just need to lock
- 34:49it down a little bit more. Maybe we need to put up those
- 34:52safeguards. Maybe we need to keep the gates
- 34:55a bit more guarded, you know? And and and not You know,
- 35:03welcome in people, welcome in energy, welcome in things that
- 35:08could be in Tropic to what we're trying to build.
- 35:14Or destructive, and what we're trying to maintain, you know.
- 35:20Yeah, one of the other things that Patrick had mentioned to me
- 35:25in a separate message was and I can relate to this too, is the
- 35:30use of substances to either enhance or embellish upon the
- 35:36feeling of this. You know, connection to the
- 35:42sacred. Right?
- 35:43And I know that there's plenty of Substances that can be
- 35:48consumed, right? This is one of them alcohol
- 35:52cannabis and and other sorts of hallucinogenic or psychoactive
- 35:59substances that can put us into a frame of mind into a state of
- 36:04mind that makes us feel like we're more in tune with with the
- 36:10sacred and that were more connected.
- 36:12I want us to all be cautious of that because that is not
- 36:15necessarily what is happening, you know?
- 36:18Yes, you're going to your emotions are going to be, maybe
- 36:22more in tune to feeling certain feelings, and that can be masked
- 36:27or disguised as a feeling of connection to the Divine.
- 36:33But I think for the most part if consumed, Hazardous,
- 36:38hazardously, or haphazardly, then all you're doing is just
- 36:42you're just getting fucked up. You're not you're not doing
- 36:46anything ritualistically too. You know, put you in a state of
- 36:51mind that get you closer to the gods with a tree connects you to
- 36:55the gods. If anything your Doing the very
- 36:59thing that keeps you disconnected from them in the
- 37:01first place. So, be careful with it.
- 37:07I would say, be careful with it. I've been guilty of it, you
- 37:09know, I've been guilty of that plenty of times and we have to
- 37:17be careful. You know, the world is a
- 37:21dangerous, place went on and offline.
- 37:25But as I mentioned before, you know, when you get out here and
- 37:27you start putting your putting your face, putting your voice
- 37:32out here for the World to See, You Have To Tread carefully.
- 37:36I have to tread carefully we have to tread carefully because
- 37:42it can consume us, you know, whether it's a you know,
- 37:47somebody's message or somebody's comment or or reaction that we
- 37:52get, you know, things that kind of stroke our egos give us some
- 37:57sort of validation I guess it kind of goes hand-in-hand like
- 38:04you have to, you have to have a bit of an ego.
- 38:09To want to do stuff like this. Like I mean I'm just going to be
- 38:11real like if you're not the type of person that wants to talk to
- 38:14nobody essentially in the room and just stare at a camera and
- 38:17speak for an hour or longer, you got to have a bit of an ego to
- 38:23want to do that. It's like you know, that that
- 38:25that old saying I'm not just listening to here - I'm this,
- 38:27I'm not just talking to hear myself speak.
- 38:31Well with right now, in the moment I am talking and I'm
- 38:33hearing myself speak, you know? There is a, in the moment, it's
- 38:38that. So is it a bit egotistical?
- 38:42I think there has to be like you have to.
- 38:43There's part of the ego that is it is okay to feed.
- 38:50No but it's it's again it's a fine line and the more you you
- 38:54feed that ego the more chances. I think we run into of Being
- 39:00overtaken by it and then we're off on this trying to figure
- 39:06out, why do I feel disconnected to the gods?
- 39:08Well, you kind of brought yourself there buddy, you know,
- 39:10you kind of took yourself out of the equation, you you over
- 39:13shared you you made what was a sacred thing to be?
- 39:19Just open to the world. and, That, that could be, you know, a
- 39:29big reason why people are feeling disconnected.
- 39:32So there's the problem right now.
- 39:35Will we do the solve it? Like there, we figured out
- 39:38potentially I'm not going to say we did figure out the whole
- 39:41problem out because again, this is such a complex thing.
- 39:44It affects different people in different ways but here's yet
- 39:47another thing to consider So that's a problem, right?
- 39:54Opening things up too much. Well what do we do to solve it?
- 39:56How do we rekindle the fire rekindling the flame Riri
- 40:01breathing new life back into that dot those dying Embers,
- 40:05Maybe Let's lock it down people, right?
- 40:10Let's shut the windows a bit. Let's close the doors.
- 40:13Let's regroup recalibrate. You know, make those course
- 40:19corrections. I mean I look at it in a way as
- 40:22navigating through the sea, navigating through the land, I'm
- 40:27going to actually bring up a very the.
- 40:30I'm going to bring up a real life scenario.
- 40:32That happened to me last week, all right?
- 40:39Want to talk about making course, corrections.
- 40:42I went on a hike in Savage Gulf which is in Grundy County,
- 40:49Tennessee. It's a vast.
- 40:52Network of trails like 40-something miles of different
- 40:56Trail heads and loops and stuff that you can go on minute.
- 40:58But anyway, I went on, I went on a about a 10 almost ten-mile
- 41:04hike with my Thule, his name is Patrick also different Patrick
- 41:09but great guy and we were coming up out of the gulf you know?
- 41:16So the way the trails are you can you can take different paths
- 41:19to reach different. Points of interest and we took a
- 41:23particular trail that that it brought us down into the Gulf,
- 41:28you know. So we descended into this lower
- 41:30area, there's a big creek that's what's called Big Creek and then
- 41:33to get out and back to your cars and stuff.
- 41:36You now have to ascend the gulf and it's basically just a
- 41:39two-mile uphill rock climb, very very tough, very physically
- 41:45demanding. And throughout one point on this
- 41:492-mile Trek back up, there was I think maybe about a mile left in
- 41:52the hike. I was First of all, those last
- 41:56two miles were, we're brutal. It took me way longer than it
- 41:58should have. I was my legs were cramping up.
- 42:01It was I was hating life. Big time.
- 42:04I was like, fuck all this I, you know, never doing this again
- 42:07Lala well again about a mile or so left of the of the hike I'm
- 42:13basically by myself because Patrick and made his way way up
- 42:17ahead of me and I lost the trail, which you might be
- 42:23thinking, how do you lose a trail?
- 42:26Well, you lose a trail when the trail markers are.
- 42:30Laying down instead of standing up and you're not familiar with
- 42:33the area, you've never been there before.
- 42:35It's not like there's traffic lights, and road signs out here
- 42:39telling you where you need to go.
- 42:40It's a white piece of metal, stapled to a tree or nailed to a
- 42:44tree. And when that tree blows over
- 42:45falls down, you know, your So a situation like that happened
- 42:51where I lost the trail and I got off Trail and you know, here I
- 42:55am several miles. Deep in the woods, can't hear
- 42:59anything except the creek. There's no other people out
- 43:02there. It's mid-afternoon I'd say early
- 43:06afternoon maybe at that point in time, but I for all intents and
- 43:13purposes of that moment I was lost and the reason I'm bringing
- 43:17this up is course Corrections. Right.
- 43:19If I would have kept going in the direction that I was
- 43:22heading, I would have landed way, way way off Trail farther
- 43:28away from where I needed to go. Already wore out, tired and
- 43:31hurting. It would have been bad, it would
- 43:34have been really bad. So what did I do, instead?
- 43:38I realized that I was off trail. That I had been off Trail now
- 43:42for probably a few hundred feet, trying to find my way back.
- 43:45And I realize if I keep going in the direction, if I if I don't
- 43:48stop and correct myself, if I don't figure out where the
- 43:52problem is and find out what to do to fix it, I'm going to dig
- 43:56my hole deeper and I'm going to, you know, potentially put myself
- 43:59in a really bad situation. So you stopped or I stopped
- 44:03rather sat down, got my breath. And said, all right, well I know
- 44:08that I've been walking into essentially a straight line when
- 44:11I felt was a straight line, I look behind me.
- 44:13And I saw some things that I knew that I crossed over and I
- 44:16retraced my steps. I went backwards.
- 44:21Found the trail again, got back on the trail and eventually made
- 44:26it out of the gulf, you know, complaining and hurting every
- 44:30step of the way for the last, you know, mile mile and a half o
- 44:33have a long. It was my point being is these
- 44:36course, Corrections. These these these points there
- 44:39where we are realizing something's going askew.
- 44:43If we don't stop for the moment and figure out what needs to be
- 44:48done to correct it, if we just say, well, I'll figure it out as
- 44:50I go, you could be going further and deeper down to the into the
- 44:54hole. And then you're, you may never
- 44:57find yourself back out and then or the way out is going to be
- 45:00much longer and much more arduous and much more
- 45:04challenging than it had a than it would have been had.
- 45:06You just stopped Figured it out, major course Corrections there.
- 45:13And then maybe if you have to go back a little bit, then you go
- 45:16back a little bit. You know, as I said before, I
- 45:18had, I had to go backwards. I went forward too far and then
- 45:21I had to go backwards. But that backwards, travel put
- 45:25me where I needed to be. I needed to retrace my steps, I
- 45:30needed to revert back to where I was before I started going off
- 45:34course. So you know, we talk about this
- 45:36all the time paganism. Even rewrite, all these It's a
- 45:38path. It's a journey.
- 45:39We're on this journey where we're walking along this path,
- 45:42will guess what sometimes you may.
- 45:45Get off Trail. And you may need to backtrack a
- 45:50bit and get back to that place where you wandered off from and
- 45:53figure out some things or maybe need to figure out some things
- 45:58over here off Trail before you get back on the trail to
- 46:01continue on your journey and continue on your path.
- 46:03Totally okay. And then a lot of times I think
- 46:05that's what people are missing. Their just like, I'm just going
- 46:08to keep no hacking and slashing my way through this jungle.
- 46:12Well, you know, you could be just putting yourself deeper
- 46:15into a web of vines that you'll never find yourself out of.
- 46:18And then it's, you know, it's going to be, you're going to be
- 46:23bogged down tied down by all of this tangled up mess, right?
- 46:28Sometimes just stop, pause. Correct.
- 46:33What needs to be corrected there?
- 46:35Take a few steps back. And then move on your way, get
- 46:39back on the trail, it's okay to venture off Trail a bit.
- 46:43I mean to that point about five or six miles into Patrick's in
- 46:47my hike through Savage golf. You know we hadn't quite made it
- 46:49down into the Gulf yet but we were we were making our way down
- 46:52there. We look to our right and we saw
- 46:55off Trail, you know, about 30 meters or so, this is just a
- 46:59giant boulder. And when I say giant I mean was
- 47:02like the size of a house. In the middle of these of these
- 47:06woods and the sheer size of everything out there.
- 47:08Comparatively was like you know these things have been here for
- 47:12thousands if not longer of years, right?
- 47:14Thousands of years, millions of years, maybe even and here we
- 47:18are standing on the same ground and it's in, it's it's humbling
- 47:22and it's, and it puts you, in puts things in perspective, but
- 47:24again, that Boulder was off Trail, he thought Wouldn't it be
- 47:29cool if we could climb up that Boulder?
- 47:31And and leave some gifts to the vets here because this Boulder
- 47:36is again as big as a house. So you know, the very top of
- 47:38this Boulder that we're looking down on was probably a good 15
- 47:42or 20 feet above ground down the side of this mountain.
- 47:47So we went off-trail scale down the side of this mountain,
- 47:51climbed up, this Boulder, laid up there for about fifteen
- 47:54minutes to relax and have a small, you know, private ritual
- 47:57as it were Do our little thing and made it back on trail.
- 48:03So it's okay to venture off Trail to figure out some things.
- 48:08But if you know if you've entered so far off but now
- 48:10you're getting you know your feet are falling into rock
- 48:14holes. And you the Thorns are grabbing
- 48:18ahold of you and things are starting to come dicey.
- 48:22Maybe, maybe you took a wrong turn.
- 48:24Maybe you made the wrong step. Maybe it's time to stop.
- 48:28Get back out. Figure things out before we move
- 48:30on. So there's some, there's some
- 48:32physical things that happened to me this past week that you could
- 48:37interpret and, and put into a, you know, a lesson as it were a
- 48:42life lesson, metaphysical aspects.
- 48:45And and if it applies then, then then boom, there you go.
- 48:48So rekindling things You know, to rekindle that connection.
- 48:54I feel can often times. Require less require us to
- 48:59retract a bit, correct? The course.
- 49:04Figure it out before we move on. Don't just keep blindly going in
- 49:09on things, just for the sake of, oh, I'm on my path.
- 49:11I'm on my journey. I'll figure out along the way.
- 49:14Yes, but sometimes we fuck up along the way and sometimes we
- 49:18gotta unfuck ourselves, right? So, there's my suggestion.
- 49:27There's my bit of advice that I have no business giving because
- 49:31I don't come from a place of experience on things of what
- 49:36Patrick is dealing with. But maybe the way that I think
- 49:39of things, it could be applied for others and maybe the things
- 49:44that you're dealing with because I'm sure everybody that listens
- 49:48to, this is deals with things differently, their own way.
- 49:50Everyone's an individual, You know, so there's going to be
- 49:53some people. That can definitely relate to
- 49:56what Patrick is saying, and then they might be other people like
- 49:59myself, who maybe can't or don't have the same degree of
- 50:04appreciation for it, that's okay.
- 50:08But that's what I've said, this is what I've said, this is where
- 50:11my thing is coming from. And so, you know, keep doing all
- 50:14the things, right. But your bare feet in the Earth,
- 50:19Go for nature walks. Do those things they will they
- 50:23make you feel better, at least for the moment.
- 50:25I've never gone outside walked Barefoot in the ground, going on
- 50:29a nature walk. I've even when I did that 9, 10
- 50:3211 Mile hikes, you know, when I do those hikes with Patrick,
- 50:34when I come back and my legs are killing me.
- 50:36And I'm cramping, you know, from from using muscles that I don't
- 50:40normally use and I'm tired, I still feel invigorated.
- 50:44I still love the feeling of it, despite the pain of it.
- 50:48There's no nature walk that I've gone on where I came back.
- 50:51Not feeling better than before I started.
- 50:54So there's that right? Don't neglect it, even if it's
- 50:57just a small park near your area, anything is better than
- 51:02nothing, you know. And then this other stuff that
- 51:07I'm talking about right disconnect from the digital
- 51:10stuff, put your phone away, get off the computer, start watching
- 51:15the video, stopped watching the movie, stop, you know, and do
- 51:18something of a maybe of a more wholesome nature that that
- 51:23forces you to get back in touch with why you feel connected to
- 51:28the Gods in the first place. What was it about that?
- 51:34First time that you held ritual. What was that first experience
- 51:38life for you that that Drew you to this and that inspired you to
- 51:42be there and to continue on that Journey, you know, retrace your
- 51:47steps, go back to that point and then feed that area and then
- 51:51figure out, oh, okay. I need to turn this off.
- 51:53I need to shut this down a little bit tighter.
- 51:55I need to close these doors. I need to open that window.
- 51:58I need a tie. This shoe, I need to loosen this
- 52:01belt, right? Find those things that you need
- 52:02to correct those Course, Corrections recalibrate.
- 52:07You know if substances are going to be a part of that equation,
- 52:11be careful with it please. I'm not a doctor, I'm not a
- 52:15shaman and I'm not a an advisor on such matters.
- 52:18So before you get into that Find someone who is find someone who
- 52:25can be a guide for you with things of that nature.
- 52:31You know, I'm been fortunate enough to partake of things.
- 52:39With. shamans, you know, with with with people who are trained
- 52:45to guide It's invaluable. It's one of the best things I
- 52:51think that people can experience with the right.
- 52:55You know under the right circumstances in with the right
- 52:58application, but don't be Reckless with it.
- 53:02Don't just think that you can Be your own guide.
- 53:09Unless you are unless you are the shaman and who am I to say
- 53:16otherwise? It was anybody, right?
- 53:17So anyway that wraps it up for me today, I guess, guys.
- 53:23I said it wasn't a lot of historical stuff, but here, I
- 53:26was actually finding a way to fit in something from a saga.
- 53:31About how, you know, Outsiders weren't, welcome, during Alpha
- 53:35bloat. And we're actually turned away,
- 53:37because they didn't want to anger the Gods. and that
- 53:41translated back to me saying well these people actually had a
- 53:44sense of what is Holy and what is sacred and how it should be
- 53:48venerated, how it should be treated with reverence and
- 53:55respect to the to the degree that you know, you won't Your
- 54:00devout. In that practice.
- 54:03So if it fits right if it works, think about it, not saying if
- 54:08you're not doing this, you're wrong.
- 54:10I'm just saying that Then maybe this is, maybe this is really
- 54:13what's going on? Maybe it's not the anxiety,
- 54:16maybe it's not the depression, maybe it's not the, the issues
- 54:19that you're dealing with per say.
- 54:21Maybe it's the fact that there's just other things going on in
- 54:23these are the symptoms of it. Maybe big maybe emphasis on,
- 54:29maybe again. Not a doctor, not a
- 54:32professional. Don't come from a place of
- 54:34experience talking about this. So, please, you know, take it
- 54:37all with a grain of salt and, and see how it fits.
- 54:40But, I am genuinely curious to see what you think about this.
