- 0:12Speaker 3: Mister little one A came you know, yo yo, yo yo.
- 0:15Speaker 3: Glad to be here.
- 0:16Speaker 1: We got the Bay in San Diego in the building
- 0:17Speaker 1: right now. Yeah, what's going on?
- 0:19Speaker 4: The first of all, why y'all sit out the game
- 0:20Speaker 4: one more time?
- 0:21Speaker 1: The Bay in San Diego?
- 0:22Speaker 2: Yeah, the West Coast?
- 0:23Speaker 1: Baby, Yeah, what brings you guys here together?
- 0:27Speaker 2: We got a few things.
- 0:28Speaker 5: Man. He had just wrote a song that I uh,
- 0:33Speaker 5: that he wrote for him. We didn't write, you know,
- 0:35Speaker 5: he wrote a song for me. I said, man, I
- 0:37Speaker 5: want to want to do something different, and he had
- 0:39Speaker 5: a track man, and I was like, man, I'm feeling
- 0:41Speaker 5: that one. Let me get on that. And he blessed
- 0:43Speaker 5: me with the writing and I got up on there
- 0:46Speaker 5: and it came out really good. So it's a new
- 0:47Speaker 5: song called wake Up. Actually, we're gonna be at KA today.
- 0:50Speaker 5: We're going to feature the song.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Wait so you're rapping?
- 0:52Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, I'm rapping on there.
- 0:53Speaker 1: How long have you Ben rap?
- 0:56Speaker 2: Ben Rapp? Yeah?
- 0:57Speaker 1: Well you know, oh I saw old school like album
- 0:59Speaker 1: cover yours?
- 1:00Speaker 2: Right?
- 1:01Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:01Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, So this is not new to you.
- 1:03Speaker 5: No, nah, nah, I ain't new to me. But but
- 1:06Speaker 5: what I say, I don't consider myself a rap. I'm
- 1:08Speaker 5: a reciter.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Man.
- 1:08Speaker 5: I have fun because people got to write the raps
- 1:10Speaker 5: for me. So I just take the words, you know,
- 1:13Speaker 5: and do what I do, have some fun with it.
- 1:15Speaker 5: That's what music is about, if you put them out
- 1:17Speaker 5: back in the day. Yeah, the gold Rush about fifteen
- 1:21Speaker 5: years ago.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Fun.
- 1:22Speaker 5: Yeah, And I think.
- 1:23Speaker 1: People see you as like an executive.
- 1:25Speaker 5: I was I when I did Black and Brown Entertainment.
- 1:28Speaker 2: I was. I was an executive for.
- 1:29Speaker 5: The first you know, almost ten years of it before
- 1:31Speaker 5: I even hit the mic. The first song I did
- 1:33Speaker 5: whatever was the Walk on Toes with south Park Meskin
- 1:36Speaker 5: and that that hook he did, he wrote the hook
- 1:38Speaker 5: that that thing was.
- 1:39Speaker 2: All over the radio.
- 1:40Speaker 1: He's definitely in the headlines a lot, even.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Yeah saying jail, Yeah, you stay in the headline.
- 1:47Speaker 1: What is your take on kind of like that whole situation.
- 1:50Speaker 1: There's it seems as if people have like a hard
- 1:52Speaker 1: line in the sand and the letting hip hop community
- 1:53Speaker 1: where they're either like, you know, fuck him if you're
- 1:57Speaker 1: associated with him. I don't know, like it just feels like,
- 1:59Speaker 1: don't I don't know. I'm not fully educated on what
- 2:01Speaker 1: happened when right. I just know he got convicted, you know,
- 2:04Speaker 1: But what is your thought process on the controversy currently?
- 2:09Speaker 5: I mean, he just went, like I always said, when
- 2:10Speaker 5: he gets out, he's just gonna have to speak on it.
- 2:12Speaker 5: And you know, that's really all I gotta say.
- 2:15Speaker 1: When he gets out, he's gonna he's gonna get so
- 2:17Speaker 1: much shows.
- 2:17Speaker 5: Would I don't know, man, I mean, I don't know,
- 2:20Speaker 5: because you're gonna have uh, you know, it ain't just
- 2:23Speaker 5: happen like that. They're gonna have stipulations. I'm sure, you
- 2:26Speaker 5: know what I mean, especially with those type of charges.
- 2:29Speaker 1: That's fair.
- 2:29Speaker 4: You know.
- 2:31Speaker 1: What about you, man? What's going on with with you know?
- 2:33Speaker 4: Well, like you said, uh, you know, the Chicano Music
- 2:35Speaker 4: Festival is everything to me, But beyond the artists standpoint,
- 2:40Speaker 4: it's just connecting the doubts in the culture. And that's
- 2:42Speaker 4: kind of how me and go Toos just kind of
- 2:44Speaker 4: came together symmetrically and just organically, you know what I'm saying.
- 2:47Speaker 3: Besides the music.
- 2:48Speaker 4: So when we did that song, we started sharing more music,
- 2:52Speaker 4: start we spent more time together.
- 2:53Speaker 3: And I ended up doing a two album deal.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Yeah. Let me say something I really like.
- 3:00Speaker 5: Uh, I didn't. When I started really getting into his music,
- 3:02Speaker 5: he started sending me all these songs for me, you know,
- 3:05Speaker 5: and I started bumping.
- 3:06Speaker 2: I'm like, I started going it. I'm like, man, old man.
- 3:08Speaker 5: He gets down, you know, and I like the oldies
- 3:12Speaker 5: and he was flipping them tight. I'm like, oh, he
- 3:14Speaker 5: got something, you know what I'm saying. And I was,
- 3:16Speaker 5: I don't know, did you think I was gonna be
- 3:18Speaker 5: able to flip that song when I do?
- 3:19Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 3:19Speaker 3: So so when he's like, yo, let's do this song.
- 3:23Speaker 4: You you heard go to Go Too, got natural right,
- 3:26Speaker 4: natural spin, natural flow. You know. So when when he
- 3:30Speaker 4: asked me, I'm like, absolutely, you could do that. Then
- 3:32Speaker 4: you know, we got the lyrics out there, and then
- 3:34Speaker 4: one day he just hit me and the song was done.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Wow.
- 3:37Speaker 5: I got it done quick too, like in a couple
- 3:39Speaker 5: of hours. You know.
- 3:39Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 3:40Speaker 1: For people who don't know, you know, you're kind of
- 3:41Speaker 1: like you're like one of the O g's in the
- 3:44Speaker 1: Chicano rap world. How long have you been at this?
- 3:47Speaker 4: Because well, my first album, Once in a Decade, came
- 3:50Speaker 4: out in nineteen ninety six ship, you know, nainety six
- 3:54Speaker 4: and then and there was nine.
- 3:55Speaker 3: I gotta you know, what's crazy.
- 3:58Speaker 4: I had a nine year old the other day when
- 4:01Speaker 4: I was in Reno, and he was saying, now, this
- 4:03Speaker 4: could have been what homicide or maybe this could have
- 4:06Speaker 4: been suicide from once in a decade. And he's nice
- 4:10Speaker 4: and he's nine. That's crazy, right, But I mean, you know,
- 4:13Speaker 4: I've always I've always felt that, you know, the whole
- 4:15Speaker 4: chicono wrap thing, that's cool, but I've never really seen
- 4:20Speaker 4: it that way. I've always seen music, like he was saying,
- 4:22Speaker 4: like art like no no color, no age, no no label.
- 4:27Speaker 4: I've always looked at music like freedom and that and
- 4:30Speaker 4: and and so has go Tos. And I think that's
- 4:32Speaker 4: what's been able to to align us, you.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Know, not necessarily thinking in a box when it comes Yeah.
- 4:40Speaker 4: Yeah, like you know, we thought the culture and everything,
- 4:41Speaker 4: but ultimately, man, like the magnitude of what we're doing
- 4:44Speaker 4: is freedom.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Yeah. I always tell tell people like, I think, you know,
- 4:48Speaker 1: growing up because I'm from Phoenix, right, so we had
- 4:50Speaker 1: Empty Magic and MB Writers and Nasty Boy Click before
- 4:53Speaker 1: they MB writers and all that. But like I listened to, uh,
- 4:58Speaker 1: what was locals? I used to be the board off
- 5:01Speaker 1: and all that ship. Yeah, I used to all the
- 5:02Speaker 1: Lowrider shows, So I was like very hip to the culture,
- 5:04Speaker 1: but the music necessarily didn't ever really like a lot
- 5:08Speaker 1: of the Chicano rap shit was like very Hey, this
- 5:11Speaker 1: is for.
- 5:12Speaker 4: Us, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, And don't get me wrong,
- 5:15Speaker 4: and it is, But I mean that doesn't like there's
- 5:18Speaker 4: more than more than yeah, there's more than just sampling
- 5:22Speaker 4: a song and rapping.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Is there sh that I was like a fan of too.
- 5:25Speaker 4: Like, you know, everybody expects it to sound like Simon
- 5:30Speaker 4: right when there really is like skeletons being made out
- 5:33Speaker 4: of these melodies, remedies made to make memories, you know
- 5:35Speaker 4: what I'm saying.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Yeah, And then like I think some of the high
- 5:38Speaker 1: power guys are dropping shit with like Busy Bone like and.
- 5:40Speaker 4: Some of that, But like there's real mcs too, like Shadows,
- 5:43Speaker 4: Ands and MC. You know there's real mcs too. But
- 5:47Speaker 4: so I always felt that we were so much more,
- 5:50Speaker 4: you know.
- 5:50Speaker 1: I think Bash did a good job of breaking that
- 5:52Speaker 1: door down to be like, hey, I happen to be Latin,
- 5:55Speaker 1: but I'm making party music that if you live in
- 5:58Speaker 1: New York.
- 5:58Speaker 3: You still bang it.
- 5:59Speaker 4: Out right, you can still bag it out and it's
- 6:02Speaker 4: it's still the same thing synonymously with the festival. Like
- 6:05Speaker 4: you know, the festival consists of all the cultural elements,
- 6:09Speaker 4: but it's just the dwarf for everyone to come through
- 6:11Speaker 4: and experience the culture for sure.
- 6:13Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying.
- 6:16Speaker 3: On Sinco the Mayo.
- 6:18Speaker 4: Yes, it's gonna be crazy at the Legacy, the Midnighters,
- 6:22Speaker 4: Slash Slacking, the Wicked, del Phonics, Jay roxx O, bet
- 6:26Speaker 4: By the SHA's gonna be crazy, Coyote Dope, gold Toes
- 6:31Speaker 4: in the house for gold Toes coming through. We got, Man,
- 6:34Speaker 4: we got a whole bunch of stuff lined up. Like
- 6:37Speaker 4: I said, Man, you know, got.
- 6:38Speaker 2: A whole layout.
- 6:39Speaker 3: Yeah, we got a whole layout.
- 6:40Speaker 4: You know, I signed a two album deal with him.
- 6:43Speaker 4: The English album will be at Chicano and the Spanish
- 6:47Speaker 4: and Mexicano and you know, and then we got a
- 6:49Speaker 4: joint project that we're working on together as well. So
- 6:53Speaker 4: you know, we got a lot of music, we got
- 6:54Speaker 4: a lot of visuals, we got a lot of shows,
- 6:56Speaker 4: we got a lot.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Of a lot toes. I want to give you props
- 6:59Speaker 1: because I feel like you've been very instrument instrument in
- 7:02Speaker 1: terms of bridging the gap between Southern California Northern California Latinos.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, we're just communicating with each other.
- 7:13Speaker 5: A lot more conversations are happening naturally, you know what
- 7:15Speaker 5: I'm saying.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Uh uh, you know, and more to come.
- 7:19Speaker 5: You know, it's gonna take some time, but you know,
- 7:21Speaker 5: you know, it's good to communicate and get on to
- 7:24Speaker 5: another uh, you know far future.
- 7:26Speaker 1: I was gonna say, do you think like in terms
- 7:27Speaker 1: of like where that like just kind of the relationships
- 7:30Speaker 1: of like certain artists with certain artists from from up
- 7:33Speaker 1: north to down south, or even guys like like you,
- 7:35Speaker 1: like who you've worked with, like like ten years ago.
- 7:38Speaker 1: Would any of that stuff have been possible five years ago,
- 7:41Speaker 1: because it feels like there's been a lot more putting
- 7:43Speaker 1: some of the politics shit to the side and just
- 7:45Speaker 1: kind of uniting.
- 7:46Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, no, it wouldn't have been possible. I
- 7:49Speaker 5: mean it could have been, but I mean it would
- 7:51Speaker 5: have just been a lot more. It would have been
- 7:53Speaker 5: a lot more I would say, more complicated and difficult.
- 7:57Speaker 5: I think through the times now and what's going on, uh,
- 8:00Speaker 5: in the last few years within the prison system, I
- 8:02Speaker 5: believe has helped out things to help develop things in
- 8:06Speaker 5: the streets. And you know, there's a lot of Latins
- 8:09Speaker 5: that are not into no type of gangs or no
- 8:11Speaker 5: type of politics.
- 8:12Speaker 2: That still feel subject to uh just over front, just
- 8:16Speaker 2: to that.
- 8:17Speaker 5: And geographically, yeah, geographically, and there needs to be some
- 8:20Speaker 5: type of now you know, yeah, we're giving it. We're
- 8:22Speaker 5: giving it a chance to We're giving ourselves a chance
- 8:25Speaker 5: to shine a little bit and to work to work together,
- 8:27Speaker 5: you know what I'm saying. So you know, it's gonna
- 8:30Speaker 5: take some time, you know, and it's happening.
- 8:33Speaker 4: It's happening right now, you know, in your podcast. You know,
- 8:36Speaker 4: and again I think I think beyond anything. I think
- 8:39Speaker 4: that the thing that's important here is not we're not
- 8:42Speaker 4: trying to do anything that's just transactional. We want to
- 8:44Speaker 4: do things that are transformational, you know what I'm saying.
- 8:47Speaker 4: And that's the energy that we're on, you know, beyond
- 8:51Speaker 4: just music, like you know, really building something a found
- 8:54Speaker 4: that comes from a foundation of purity, you know, like
- 8:57Speaker 4: this is this isn't just about a monetary gain.
- 9:00Speaker 3: It's much more than set.
- 9:01Speaker 5: An example, when we got together, we were like all
- 9:03Speaker 5: your phone connected, connect colicted. When we have when we
- 9:08Speaker 5: have a lot in common. So everything is just coming in.
- 9:12Speaker 5: It's coming how it's supposed to be. We coming at
- 9:14Speaker 5: it how it's supposed to come. I wanted to go
- 9:16Speaker 5: to go back and give a shout out to Pocals
- 9:18Speaker 5: Spedal Locals because that was a legendary show. Yeah, because
- 9:21Speaker 5: I mean they put on a lot of that. Think
- 9:22Speaker 5: from everywhere. I think our tacos man, this guy's bro.
- 9:27Speaker 2: We're in the middle of the podcast where you.
- 9:28Speaker 5: At the doors locked ship, give us the white bed,
- 9:35Speaker 5: take my phone, man, my bad.
- 9:38Speaker 1: From the white angle.
- 9:39Speaker 5: We could keep calling me and call them like fuck.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Tell them you're coming. I was going to say, you know,
- 9:48Speaker 1: poke Spedal Locals obviously, like I feel like kool Aid,
- 9:50Speaker 1: I forget the DJ's name. He did a lot for
- 9:54Speaker 1: the culture, for sure, man, a lot.
- 9:56Speaker 4: You know. I remember kool Aid was a very big
- 9:59Speaker 4: believer in it, Big bad network, you know. Yeah, and
- 10:01Speaker 4: you know grew up in Oxnart. You know the ox
- 10:04Speaker 4: Snart is heavy with the culture. Five man, Yeah, shout
- 10:07Speaker 4: out today five And you know Koolaid opened that door
- 10:10Speaker 4: and we came in. The more they got syndicated, the
- 10:12Speaker 4: more we got out there, so that was a good
- 10:14Speaker 4: plug for us.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Yeah, those those og low Rider shows were crazy. I'm
- 10:18Speaker 1: talking about like six oh five oh seven. Then those
- 10:22Speaker 1: were yanking, cranking, you know what I'm saying. Tell me
- 10:26Speaker 1: kind of like for people who don't know, you have
- 10:28Speaker 1: GT Digital, which is your distribution distribution company, yep, And
- 10:33Speaker 1: these days there's so many distribution companies popping up.
- 10:36Speaker 5: Right everybody's trying to do it. A lot of people
- 10:39Speaker 5: try to do it, they just can't get clients.
- 10:40Speaker 1: Well, that's what I was gonna say for you, like,
- 10:42Speaker 1: because I'm really you know, obviously I'm real typ with
- 10:44Speaker 1: Gazi and Nina and those guys, and as you are.
- 10:47Speaker 1: You do a lot of business with Empire as well.
- 10:48Speaker 1: There's companies like Distro, Kid Tone Core and One r
- 10:53Speaker 1: PAN and so many independent distributors these days. What is
- 10:58Speaker 1: the what do you bring to the that is unique?
- 11:01Speaker 5: I think that being my years of being in the
- 11:04Speaker 5: record business, you know, Black and Brown entertainment. There's Latin
- 11:06Speaker 5: Records knowing how to be a record label, on the
- 11:10Speaker 5: necessity of communication, dealing with the artists. People do want
- 11:13Speaker 5: to give you their life, of their heart, and then
- 11:15Speaker 5: all of a sudden you got to talk to an
- 11:16Speaker 5: email and you can't speak to nobody, you know, with us,
- 11:19Speaker 5: I have a staff. We're going to talk to you.
- 11:20Speaker 5: I talk to you. I listen to the music. I'm
- 11:23Speaker 5: in tune with everybody. And there's a lot of artists
- 11:25Speaker 5: out there. You know what I'm saying. But I'm able
- 11:28Speaker 5: to decipher who really wants it and who is necessary
- 11:31Speaker 5: of that time to talk to them. Of course everybody is,
- 11:34Speaker 5: and we do. I believe there's enough time in our
- 11:36Speaker 5: day to talk to everybody. That's the whole thing. I
- 11:39Speaker 5: don't you know, we want to talk to you. I
- 11:40Speaker 5: leave give you five minutes to chop it.
- 11:41Speaker 2: Up with you.
- 11:42Speaker 5: See what's going on? How you doing with your marketing?
- 11:44Speaker 5: What do you need help in? Let me listen to
- 11:46Speaker 5: your best song? First thing I do. What's your best song?
- 11:49Speaker 5: What's your best Let me see it? You know what
- 11:51Speaker 5: I mean? That ain't nothing. This is what I'm doing.
- 11:53Speaker 5: I'm in the music business. I want to listen to
- 11:55Speaker 5: the music. You know, there's some people that there's other
- 11:58Speaker 5: companies that don't do none of that.
- 12:00Speaker 1: That is true. Not to send an email, You got.
- 12:02Speaker 2: It, that's it.
- 12:03Speaker 5: Just your kid ain't listening to your ship too, for sure.
- 12:06Speaker 5: You think the motherfucker's day is not listening to your ship.
- 12:08Speaker 2: They don't give you.
- 12:09Speaker 5: You just loaded it up, put it in, and you
- 12:10Speaker 5: gonna get They're gonna get their money, they gonna pay it.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Is it hard though, like trying to be accessible to everybody, you.
- 12:18Speaker 2: Know what, Actually it ain't.
- 12:19Speaker 5: Nah, Yeah, they ain't because most people, most I'm gonna
- 12:22Speaker 5: say most artists are only doing an album or too.
- 12:26Speaker 2: So they're putting a date some of them.
- 12:28Speaker 5: Some mother uckers they forget about they even put something
- 12:30Speaker 5: up right, you know what I'm saying. Then you got
- 12:31Speaker 5: something that are seriously into it, and then you can
- 12:33Speaker 5: talk to him. They're gonna put something out. I mean,
- 12:36Speaker 5: it's it's you know, like I said, ten minute conversation
- 12:39Speaker 5: is gonna go a long way.
- 12:41Speaker 4: I think that's what he does different, you know, because
- 12:43Speaker 4: like he was talking about the communication, I think when
- 12:45Speaker 4: there's communication with comprehension, it changes the dynamic of just communicating.
- 12:51Speaker 4: When you communicate with comprehension, you understand what you're talking about.
- 12:54Speaker 4: And I think he's really good at that. He's really
- 12:56Speaker 4: good at letting him know, like, look, this is A,
- 12:58Speaker 4: B and C. This is the way it's supposed to happened.
- 13:00Speaker 1: You do your part.
- 13:01Speaker 3: I do my part.
- 13:02Speaker 4: Everybody wins instead of like, oh my ship's out all
- 13:06Speaker 4: over the you know, in every platform.
- 13:08Speaker 1: So what Yeah, the destro game is interesting because I
- 13:11Speaker 1: just see, I feel like every major label has their
- 13:14Speaker 1: own version of I guess. With Empires, I feel like
- 13:17Speaker 1: kind of revolutionized in terms of like, you know, they
- 13:19Speaker 1: kind of kicked the door down and now everybody, everybody's
- 13:22Speaker 1: got their own Empire under their umbrella, you know, like
- 13:25Speaker 1: three hundred Sparta and you know, go on and on
- 13:27Speaker 1: and on. So I just always am wondering, like, you know,
- 13:30Speaker 1: I just I'm intrigued.
- 13:32Speaker 5: By me and Me and Gazi both started off with
- 13:34Speaker 5: Ingrous I was I started. I started, I started INgrooves
- 13:38Speaker 5: is Rap Division was their first rap I was their
- 13:41Speaker 5: first rap label. Actually hooked up Gazi with them for
- 13:44Speaker 5: the job. For him to get in there, It's crazy,
- 13:46Speaker 5: you know what I'm saying. Gazi was, you know, my
- 13:48Speaker 5: engineer for Black and Browning Entertainment at that time, you
- 13:51Speaker 5: know what I'm saying.
- 13:51Speaker 1: So me, we we's still engineering too a whole album.
- 13:55Speaker 5: You know, because there's there's a YouTube video Gazi saying
- 13:58Speaker 5: I want to be like Julio and our grow up.
- 14:00Speaker 2: I'm like, now, god, he blew up.
- 14:02Speaker 5: That means all this to say is at any point
- 14:05Speaker 5: you could get you can blow. It could take one day,
- 14:08Speaker 5: any point, man, in this game, it could happen. You know,
- 14:11Speaker 5: dreams can happen overnight overall with the you know, stuff
- 14:14Speaker 5: goes viral all of a sudden boom you're on.
- 14:17Speaker 1: I was gonna ask both of you guys, because you
- 14:19Speaker 1: guys eas have had so much independent success in the
- 14:21Speaker 1: rap game. I feel like I always correlate the Bay
- 14:23Speaker 1: Area with like just the real roots of this independent
- 14:26Speaker 1: rap shit, like getting it out the Trump. You know
- 14:28Speaker 1: what I'm saying. Yeah, how do you guys like being
- 14:31Speaker 1: on both sides of the game right Like in twenty
- 14:34Speaker 1: twenty three, the music game is so different. There's got
- 14:37Speaker 1: to be like other ways to monetize your music besides
- 14:40Speaker 1: the streaming, because the streaming is you know it is
- 14:42Speaker 1: what it is.
- 14:42Speaker 5: I mean, cross marketing of course with other artists, you
- 14:45Speaker 5: know what I'm saying, paying for you know, getting ads,
- 14:48Speaker 5: YouTube ads, TikTok ads, doing sure marketing, spend money, gotta
- 14:52Speaker 5: spend money, man, you know, and it may not come back.
- 14:55Speaker 5: You know, at least you gave yours. At least you
- 14:56Speaker 5: gave it a shot to shine though.
- 14:58Speaker 3: And you gotta be okay with that.
- 14:59Speaker 2: Yeah, you gotta be okay.
- 15:00Speaker 4: You gotta be That's acceptance to that is a huge
- 15:04Speaker 4: part of being an artist, you know what I'm saying.
- 15:08Speaker 3: I've always been a firm believer of that.
- 15:10Speaker 4: Like sometimes Deepak Chop process, expectancy determines outcomes. When you're
- 15:14Speaker 4: not attached to the outcome, the outcome is guaranteed. Sometimes
- 15:17Speaker 4: that desire and that one creates an actual barrier between
- 15:21Speaker 4: you and your success.
- 15:23Speaker 2: I think you know, of course, doing the visual it's
- 15:27Speaker 2: the truth. I think your visuals too.
- 15:29Speaker 5: You got to get in you know, you got to
- 15:31Speaker 5: get creative.
- 15:31Speaker 2: With your videos and your visuals. You know what I'm saying.
- 15:34Speaker 4: Yeah, sometimes the song you think is the one may not.
- 15:37Speaker 1: Be the one. You gotta be okay with that, and
- 15:38Speaker 1: you gotta be okay.
- 15:40Speaker 2: Gamble, bro, this is all a gamble.
- 15:42Speaker 5: That's why I say, like, I have fun with this
- 15:43Speaker 5: ship man, like when he wrote the song having fun
- 15:45Speaker 5: with I'm gonna go do a video.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Both have it?
- 15:47Speaker 5: You having fun. That's what I do with my music.
- 15:48Speaker 5: That's how I enjoy it. If I spend, I go
- 15:50Speaker 5: spend ten twenty thousand, but if I don't make it back,
- 15:53Speaker 5: at least I have fun doing it.
- 15:55Speaker 4: When he told me about the music, I was like, ah, bro,
- 15:57Speaker 4: that's like fifth on the list for me. You know
- 16:00Speaker 4: what I'm saying it is, you know, I'm bringing the
- 16:04Speaker 4: culture together doing these festivals all over the country, you know,
- 16:07Speaker 4: closing that paradoxic Divided slash Divided gap.
- 16:11Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean you've been doing your thing as a
- 16:12Speaker 1: promoter for a long time, long time, yeah, which is
- 16:15Speaker 1: in the whole other side of the game is.
- 16:17Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, but again, resource and strategy. You know,
- 16:19Speaker 4: there's been some shows that didn't go so well, so what.
- 16:23Speaker 4: There's been some shows that were phenomenal. There's some records
- 16:26Speaker 4: that didn't do so well. So what some records that
- 16:29Speaker 4: did phenomenal. I've been on Power one on six, I've
- 16:33Speaker 4: been in Boise, Like, you know, it doesn't matter. You know,
- 16:36Speaker 4: every single aspect of what you do to contribute to
- 16:39Speaker 4: what you're doing matters, you know what I'm saying. So
- 16:42Speaker 4: I think a lot of artists have this idea this
- 16:45Speaker 4: fallacy of what they're their.
- 16:47Speaker 3: Dreaming, and they ain't nothing wrong with that.
- 16:49Speaker 4: But ultimately, you can't let money consume you. You got
- 16:53Speaker 4: to have passion for what you do. You got to
- 16:55Speaker 4: have passion for your art. You still got One of
- 16:58Speaker 4: the things that people say about Florida Mayweather is that
- 17:00Speaker 4: he was still training like he was broke for sure.
- 17:03Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying, Like, the passion has to
- 17:06Speaker 4: be your purpose, your art. I always look at music
- 17:09Speaker 4: like art. That's why it comes so naturally. I've been
- 17:12Speaker 4: doing it for a long time. But I was never
- 17:14Speaker 4: like an ABC person just to do songs to do songs,
- 17:18Speaker 4: especially as I got older, and especially as life itself
- 17:21Speaker 4: became more meaningful to me. Relationships become more meaningful. You
- 17:26Speaker 4: magnetize and allie with other people that are living a
- 17:29Speaker 4: meaningful life, and then whatever you do becomes meaningful.
- 17:32Speaker 3: So therefore it happens organically.
- 17:35Speaker 1: Yo, go Tos. I wanted to ask you, and obviously
- 17:36Speaker 1: you had a lot to do with this too, just
- 17:38Speaker 1: with the name of your label. But why do you
- 17:41Speaker 1: think that Northern California, it feels like Black artists and
- 17:44Speaker 1: Latin artists are more privy and naturally working together because
- 17:48Speaker 1: I feel like when it comes to southern California, it
- 17:51Speaker 1: it feels like the rap Games a little more divided.
- 17:53Speaker 5: It's just the way we grew up in the Bay,
- 17:55Speaker 5: in northern Cally, It's just you know, we grew up
- 17:57Speaker 5: black and brown. I mean even in La they grew
- 17:59Speaker 5: up black and around two. But I think, you know,
- 18:01Speaker 5: just from you know what I know is changing.
- 18:05Speaker 1: But I just mean, like historically, it just feels like
- 18:06Speaker 1: a little more like different.
- 18:08Speaker 5: I think it's just in the Bay it's always been
- 18:10Speaker 5: like that. You know, the Blacks and the Mexicans. We
- 18:13Speaker 5: grew up together, so it's just always had that. We've
- 18:16Speaker 5: had that that How can I say the lingo? You
- 18:18Speaker 5: know what I'm saying. San Francisco, you know it's a
- 18:21Speaker 5: little different, that's all. It's just what it is. It's
- 18:23Speaker 5: just different, you know geographically that we raised different, we
- 18:27Speaker 5: interact differently, and you know that's it. Really at the
- 18:30Speaker 5: end of the day.
- 18:32Speaker 1: How are you feeling about San Francisco?
- 18:33Speaker 5: Man? In fact, every time, man, everybody moving out, It's like,
- 18:36Speaker 5: what the funk happened?
- 18:37Speaker 1: In my city?
- 18:37Speaker 4: Everybody goes got moms everywhere, I.
- 18:40Speaker 5: Mean, the city is still the city, but.
- 18:42Speaker 1: The Chinese president came through and they cleaned that shit up. Frisco.
- 18:46Speaker 2: Frisco, Man, now Frisco. You know, city is still a city.
- 18:49Speaker 5: But you know a lot of everybody's been moving out, uh,
- 18:52Speaker 5: you know, hitting the suburbs and moving to different states.
- 18:54Speaker 5: But at the end of the day, man, you know,
- 18:56Speaker 5: I love my city.
- 18:56Speaker 1: Every time I go there, I'm just paranoid. I'm just like, everyone,
- 18:59Speaker 1: take everything out of your car. Not get bit.
- 19:02Speaker 5: We're doing the Splash City, you know me and yeah,
- 19:04Speaker 5: we're doing the splashy with Four Ways Entertainment.
- 19:06Speaker 1: So I met them. I was at his compound a
- 19:08Speaker 1: couple of months ago and I met the guys who
- 19:10Speaker 1: I think help wrote it. They came through. Yeah, I
- 19:12Speaker 1: think the trailer just dropped. Yeah, we just dropped the trailer. Yeah,
- 19:15Speaker 1: what's that coming. It's going to be coming out hopefully.
- 19:18Speaker 1: We're going to start filming in January, so sometime by
- 19:20Speaker 1: the end of the year. It's big twenty twenty four. Yeah,
- 19:22Speaker 1: Because I think Burne was saying that, it's like, you know,
- 19:24Speaker 1: if you think about all like these Netflix series and
- 19:26Speaker 1: like gangster movies, there's never been like anything that's really
- 19:28Speaker 1: there's been Boston gangster movies, New York gangster movies. There
- 19:31Speaker 1: ain't never been no like real spotlight on the Bay
- 19:35Speaker 1: and like what goes on in the Bay, and there's
- 19:36Speaker 1: so much culture there, there's so much like.
- 19:39Speaker 5: Man, it's just about that time and start time with Sean.
- 19:42Speaker 3: That's why we're here building bridges everywhere.
- 19:44Speaker 4: Even the Mexicans in Texas different than the Mexicans in California.
- 19:49Speaker 1: Trust me, I just went hog hunting with that Mexican.
- 19:51Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I saw that, yeah, and that was fun.
- 19:53Speaker 4: But you see building a bridge, like you said, from
- 19:55Speaker 4: the Bay to here here to Texas and even California
- 20:01Speaker 4: and Texas to Mexico.
- 20:04Speaker 3: The Mexico.
- 20:05Speaker 4: The movement with music is crazier, going nuts, for sure,
- 20:08Speaker 4: it's crazy.
- 20:09Speaker 3: So that's what me and Gold is doing.
- 20:10Speaker 5: We here building bridges, just putting our resources together and
- 20:13Speaker 5: communicating and see what we can make happen, you know,
- 20:16Speaker 5: And it's good for the culture. It's good for all
- 20:18Speaker 5: of us for sure.
- 20:19Speaker 1: What do you guys think of a guy like Mexicano
- 20:20Speaker 1: T who is funk? You just got a gold record.
- 20:23Speaker 5: He's make it, He's all right.
- 20:26Speaker 3: I think he's yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 20:30Speaker 2: But I see how fast he popped up boom, you
- 20:33Speaker 2: know what I'm saying.
- 20:34Speaker 4: But he said it exactly like how go Tos was
- 20:36Speaker 4: talking about about the ward and He's.
- 20:38Speaker 1: Like, it's just culture where he was raised.
- 20:41Speaker 3: He was like, this is where we grew up. Man,
- 20:43Speaker 3: it's just cod.
- 20:43Speaker 1: I went to a city where he grew up. I
- 20:45Speaker 1: saw it.
- 20:45Speaker 5: You know, Texas different Texas and Texas. You know, they
- 20:48Speaker 5: got a lot of slang out there, they do. They
- 20:50Speaker 5: got a lot of slang and Mexicans out there sound
- 20:54Speaker 5: black black. I thought we sound black, and I'm like, damn.
- 20:59Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, though Texas is wild. Yeah, everybody got a strap.
- 21:04Speaker 5: We were cracking out there, man.
- 21:05Speaker 2: We were like we.
- 21:07Speaker 1: Were in the middle of nowhere, just stalking hogs on
- 21:12Speaker 1: a helicopter. No, no, we did, and then we did
- 21:14Speaker 1: it on foot. It like two in the morning with
- 21:16Speaker 1: night vision and ship. It was fucking great.
- 21:18Speaker 3: Yeah, but that was dope.
- 21:19Speaker 4: I'm sure that's a different experience, but that's how he
- 21:21Speaker 4: grew up.
- 21:22Speaker 1: Yeah, for sure.
- 21:23Speaker 3: You know that's what makes it dope.
- 21:24Speaker 1: We do you guys put a guy like Magic in
- 21:26Speaker 1: the pantheon of like Latin hip hop because he obviously
- 21:28Speaker 1: he makes love music, but he's also empty magic.
- 21:30Speaker 4: Yeah. But in my opinion, I mean, you know, I
- 21:33Speaker 4: love I love the freedom of his art.
- 21:34Speaker 3: Yeah, he stayed true to his roots.
- 21:36Speaker 4: He you know, he he he gets music and provides
- 21:42Speaker 4: his art to the music and everybody hears an empty
- 21:46Speaker 4: magic beat and knows it.
- 21:48Speaker 1: And he's doing more shows now, yeah, everyone in his career.
- 21:50Speaker 1: Yeah that's what's so crazy. And yeah, him Bash and
- 21:56Speaker 1: little Robert.
- 21:57Speaker 5: Running it, yeah, running it.
- 22:00Speaker 1: They're doing more shows than they've ever done. And it's
- 22:02Speaker 1: crazy because like like they'll set out the novel like
- 22:04Speaker 1: twice a year, you know what I'm saying. Like, it's
- 22:06Speaker 1: just it's just wild, because always feel like magic like
- 22:08Speaker 1: for us and easy. He's like kind of like the
- 22:10Speaker 1: fucking biggest thing has ever come out of Phoenix, you
- 22:11Speaker 1: know what I mean.
- 22:12Speaker 4: So, but I mean he's always treated that music like
- 22:14Speaker 4: guard for.
- 22:15Speaker 1: Sure, and he's always been a professional, always.
- 22:19Speaker 3: Lockdowns.
- 22:20Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, you know, I just saw him in San
- 22:21Speaker 4: Diego maybe a few months ago when he was out
- 22:24Speaker 4: there shooting the video and we chopped it up for
- 22:27Speaker 4: a little bit. But he's also a really good dude.
- 22:28Speaker 1: For the best, he's got you know, he's kind of
- 22:32Speaker 1: taking a page from your book and he's doing his
- 22:33Speaker 1: own shows.
- 22:34Speaker 4: Yeah, he's doing his own shows too.
- 22:35Speaker 1: You know, it's crazy because if you go to a
- 22:37Speaker 1: magic show, he's on, like if Rob's opening or someone's
- 22:42Speaker 1: opening for him, like or anyone that goes on before him,
- 22:45Speaker 1: Like he's on the side of the stage running the show.
- 22:47Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 22:47Speaker 1: Like I was standing there with him. I was like, oh,
- 22:49Speaker 1: you're fucking yeah, like handling, like he's playing the graphics
- 22:52Speaker 1: on the screen and ship, Like, don't you have some
- 22:55Speaker 1: who could do this so that.
- 22:57Speaker 4: You know, when I was doing the Latin Lockdown, I
- 22:59Speaker 4: was getting him on the show. Then I've seen him
- 23:02Speaker 4: doing this thing too. But you know, even even just
- 23:05Speaker 4: being motivated to do the festival because of things like that.
- 23:08Speaker 4: You know, there's a lot of people that use the
- 23:10Speaker 4: word tackle, the word Michelada, the word just add festival
- 23:14Speaker 4: to it for sure.
- 23:15Speaker 1: And you know I went to my Alreadys did one
- 23:16Speaker 1: in present. I think it was like called Taco throw Down.
- 23:18Speaker 3: Yeah, there you go.
- 23:19Speaker 4: You know, there's there's millions of dollars being generated off
- 23:22Speaker 4: the culture, you know what I'm saying, Sure, so why.
- 23:25Speaker 1: Not let why I mean shot out to Bobby d two.
- 23:27Speaker 5: Yeah, Bobby, shout out to Bobby on the big concert, Bobby,
- 23:30Speaker 5: He's got based, He's fucking But you know, like that's
- 23:34Speaker 5: the objective here.
- 23:35Speaker 3: The objective is is beyond that.
- 23:36Speaker 4: I mean, you know, there's always this microscopic fucking lens
- 23:40Speaker 4: in the inner city, like nobody gives it the telescopic
- 23:43Speaker 4: lens about the beautiful ship that happens in the culture,
- 23:46Speaker 4: you know what I'm saying. So bringing acts like and
- 23:48Speaker 4: like Malo and del Phonics because the oldies are part
- 23:50Speaker 4: of the.
- 23:50Speaker 1: Culture for sure. Have you obviously your hip to like
- 23:53Speaker 1: what Desi Hollow is doing an ocean size Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 23:55Speaker 1: you doing a great job with the whole school.
- 23:57Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, for sure. He's dope as fuck too. And
- 23:59Speaker 4: I got abed by the yea. Yeah, you know he's
- 24:01Speaker 4: dope as fuck too. But again, you know, being able
- 24:03Speaker 4: to bring the motown side of it, the latinos side
- 24:07Speaker 4: of it, hip hop side of it with little Weirdo
- 24:11Speaker 4: Kryota and still got Conako and Shadow you know, and
- 24:14Speaker 4: uh and just being a being.
- 24:15Speaker 1: Whirdos to id to get him on the show. Weirdos dope.
- 24:17Speaker 4: Yeah, we're those dope, you know, and connect connecting with
- 24:20Speaker 4: go to's, you know, man and being able to do
- 24:22Speaker 4: we want to take this to the Bay. We want
- 24:24Speaker 4: to take this to Texas.
- 24:25Speaker 1: Got it doesn't ask you what do you think is
- 24:27Speaker 1: like a key to kind of helping some of these uh,
- 24:32Speaker 1: like like smaller cities in the middle of Cali because
- 24:34Speaker 1: I think of a guy like GB who have had
- 24:36Speaker 1: on the show shot to him ghetto boy. But there's
- 24:39Speaker 1: like cities like Fresno. There's cities like Bakersfield. Their city
- 24:42Speaker 1: is like Stockton, Stockton's booming.
- 24:45Speaker 5: They they got to cross market themselves.
- 24:46Speaker 2: I mean you can even I mean even.
- 24:49Speaker 5: I mean there's a lot of rappers and you could
- 24:50Speaker 5: be cracking locally, but I'm gonna be honest. You got
- 24:53Speaker 5: to get out even, got to get out the state
- 24:55Speaker 5: to start moving around. I mean, most of these guys
- 24:57Speaker 5: they put out an album name even making ten thousand
- 24:59Speaker 5: dollars in a year, they're most of them probably making
- 25:01Speaker 5: about three rats at the most. I mean it's like,
- 25:03Speaker 5: for real, you feel.
- 25:04Speaker 1: Me well, I mean yeah, especially if you start doing
- 25:05Speaker 1: the math on the stream.
- 25:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I started staying there.
- 25:07Speaker 5: You know that you think they popping, but they really
- 25:10Speaker 5: when you start really seeing the numbers.
- 25:13Speaker 1: Right about four grand last year. You know, if you
- 25:15Speaker 1: got a million streams.
- 25:17Speaker 5: Going, man, you got to keep pushing, you feel me?
- 25:19Speaker 5: So uh, you know you got music? Like I tell everybody,
- 25:23Speaker 5: do it, you love it, and keep doing it and
- 25:25Speaker 5: keep being consistent with it. And look, look we're fifty
- 25:28Speaker 5: years old. I was doing this shit when I was
- 25:29Speaker 5: twenty three.
- 25:30Speaker 4: Right, that's crazy, you know that, Sear, that's the timeless
- 25:34Speaker 4: aspect of it, you know again, but it goes back.
- 25:36Speaker 4: You know, you either inspired, like if you go you
- 25:39Speaker 4: go to a football player's baseball players mom's house, you'll
- 25:43Speaker 4: see him doing that sport when he.
- 25:44Speaker 3: Was ten, for sure.
- 25:45Speaker 4: So it's got to be it's got to be passion.
- 25:48Speaker 1: Yeah, it has to be the first thing.
- 25:50Speaker 4: It can be like chains, the broads and the car
- 25:53Speaker 4: I mean.
- 25:53Speaker 1: I always tell people like, uh, if you are willing
- 25:57Speaker 1: to spend money on a belt or a fun wallet
- 26:00Speaker 1: or a fucking half ass chain, but your videos look
- 26:04Speaker 1: like ship yeah, and the artwork on your album is
- 26:06Speaker 1: a joke and you and you ain't doing social media
- 26:09Speaker 1: content the right way. Like fuck your belt, bro, fuck
- 26:12Speaker 1: the Louis belt with the Gucci shooting.
- 26:14Speaker 4: I would say that, you know, it's more like that
- 26:16Speaker 4: the mute that the videos looked the way the music sounds.
- 26:19Speaker 1: Yeah, you gotta brand yourself, you know, you gotta.
- 26:22Speaker 2: Make everything a little ice cream. You want to cover
- 26:24Speaker 2: to be right. You want your videos to be right.
- 26:26Speaker 5: Like right now, everything I'm doing, I'm trying to take
- 26:28Speaker 5: my time, like even though I don't do songs all
- 26:30Speaker 5: the time, but when I do it now, I want
- 26:32Speaker 5: to make sure everything is tight, everything's looking right, the
- 26:35Speaker 5: rollouts nice, you know what I'm saying.
- 26:38Speaker 1: Somebody who was I arguing with somebody from San Francisco
- 26:42Speaker 1: in my comments lied, they said that what they say.
- 26:49Speaker 1: Somebody said the Bay has the best Mexican food, which
- 26:52Speaker 1: is just a bullfaced lie obviously, because.
- 26:54Speaker 3: San Diego got good.
- 26:58Speaker 1: I am not san Diego.
- 27:00Speaker 4: San Diego, San Diego has the best Mexican best.
- 27:05Speaker 5: I'm gonna take no, no, no, no, I let's say no
- 27:07Speaker 5: no no no no no.
- 27:08Speaker 2: No no no no no. San Diego is good. San Jose,
- 27:12Speaker 2: San hol got some good ship though.
- 27:14Speaker 3: San Diego ne SEMy I'm gonna say.
- 27:17Speaker 2: I'm gonna say, neck and.
